My favorite seafood place

My favorite seafood place

Chain restaurant with ok food.

By Sillydg |

The meals I've had here are ok. The portions are relatively large. Some have been better than others.

Consistently good food.

Consistently good food.

Quiet Business Lunch

By Michael S |

Enjoyed another quiet business lunch. Great service and food promptly served. Nice place for business discussion.

Expected Better.

By Kevcol5 |

The view is great for people watching and looking out over the river. The food was just okay. The stuffed mushrooms were cold. No one came by to ask how they were. The food came out hot but nothing special. For the price there are lots of other choices around Portland.

Consistently High Quality Food and Service

By Pohocat |

McCormick & Schmick's Restaurants have been part of the Portland scene for many years. They are now part of the larger Landry Restaurant group, but we are pleased that they have retained the local feel and high quality food and service they have long been known for. We recently visited the McCormick & Schmick's on the Waterfront in Portland for lunch. It's a nice location right on the harbor marina, with lots of people watching through the large windows facing the boats. Their primary menu focus is on fresh seafood, and the menu changes daily to accommodate what is fresh. They have an excellent wine list, too. Any of the M & S restaurants can be relied on for a great meal.

If you are hungry don't go here!

The absolute worst service I have ever had in my life! It took the waiter 20 min to acknowledge we were in his area. After taking our drink orders we waited another 20 min to get them. Two hours later, yes you read right two hours later our dinners came out Luke warm at best. We sent them back and they came back exact same temp. After that we asked for our check. As we were talking to the manager the waiter snuck a drink to our table that we had ordered after sending the dinners back the first time, but told them after sending the dinners back the second time we no longer wanted it. After all that they still charged us for that drink and the other two we had plus the one appetizer we did manage to get that kept us from starving. Had to be our waiter the other tables around us that got sat after us had their dinners and left before we got ours the first time. Unbelievably poor service. Waste of two and half hours. Will never go back to one of their restaurants.

Good for a chain

By TammyTamM |

We were surprised how delicious the clam chowder was for a chain restaurant. I know they specialize in seafood, but many times the chain is not good. Pleasant surprise.

Nice place, food average to above average

By Aspen86 |

The restaurant is located in a good area and has a neat look about it. My shrimp entree had a little too much butter and garlic in it, the other three people at the table were satisfied with their meal. I just read some of the other reviews and can agree that it does have that chain food restaurant taste to it.

There is NO Resturant at the address, dont go here.

By AVERAGE JOE |

This may be the business office, there is no a resturant here. It is located by the water which is obviously not in the middle of downtown!

A classic

By davidblainem |

Jake's Famous Crawfish is a classic old-style restaurant focused on local seafood. Try the rockfish if it's on the menu!

Another pleasant surprise

By LUVSASKATCHEWAN |

It was close to the waterfront Marriot so we decided to give it a try. Our waitress was a little strange, but our food was excellent and the view is very good if only the freeway would go away.

Almond crusted trout

By Vanessa201149 |

Great outside seating area as we had our dog. Great food and service. We had the 2 crab appetizers and mussels which were delicious. We also had the steak medallions but my favourite was the almond crusted trout in sauce.

Excellent selection and outdoor patio

By regoad |

I was equally impressed with my fresh seared scallops as I was with the incredible view of the Portland all lit up along the river. The selection of seafood would fit anyone taste. The special dietary requirements were carried out without issue.

The Customer is INVISIBLE and the food is awful.

By dvorac4 |

The Customer is not "right" here - the customer is INVISIBLE. This was one of the very worst dinner experiences we have ever had, anywhere. This McC&S is on the end of the pedestrian "esplanade" walking path along the river from the downtown riverfront park by the Kimpton Riverplace hotel to the marina and bridges. There are very few restaurant options in this area if you want to avoid the crime ridden downtown area, especially if you are staying in a local hotel along the waterfront. The prices are very high but the outdoor setting is nice in the summer, and there is not a lot of competition. We made a reservation for 7:30 and showed up spot on time; we'd been told earlier that the outdoor seating area stops serving food at 8 pm. (One of the very crazy aspects of restaurants in this area is that they stop serving food ridiculously early - Europeans would say they stop serving dinner before they start eating dinner there; and the restaurants consistently close the kitchens well before their signage of working hours tells the customers so beware!) Although 2/3 of the outdoor tables were open, the waiter took us to the last table on the far end away from the door - meaning that we were at risk of being forgotten - which we so were. We ordered right away, and the waiter walked away with our order at 7:45. .....into oblivion. We tried to wave him down as time went on, and on, and on....and he finally brought us our drinks at 8:35 pm (50 minutes after ordering - and these were EASY - one diet coke and two bourbons neat) without any acknowledgement of how late he was in bringing our drinks nor any acknowledgement of our dinner order. Forget apologies - he just swooped in and slammed the glasses on the table and walked away. We were so flummoxed that we did not immediately chase him down, but then decided we should when we heard another group complaining bitterly about how long they had waited for their dinner. The waiter brought out dinner at 8:45 -- an HOUR after we ordered and 45 minutes after they supposedly stopped serving outside. This was also easy - a caesar salad and a burger, period. By this point, it was getting dark and very buggy - completely defeating the goal of enjoying dinner with a view of the river before dark. No apology at all. The restaurant inside was almost empty so there is no dodge of "we were so busy." The waiter slouched off not to be seen again until we waved him down to get the check. The salad was AWFUL - $12 for a small bowl of old brownish romaine and a teensy sprinkle of barely there parm cheese. The burger was similarly terrible. The drinks were very expensive -- one Jack D neat was a whopping $10.50. They made a lot of profit on us and completely ruined our evening. DO NOT GO THERE FOR DINNER OR YOU WILL REGRET IT. MUCH BETTER CHOICE IS THE Portland Sports Bar & Grill just across the traffic circle. Very friendly, welcoming, and good pub food at relatively reasonable prices.

Highlight of our trip

By Cortney D |

Only meal we had that we were not afraid of the locals. Great food and great location. The locals have ruined the city for visitors. Local Government seems impudent in ability to deal with local thugs.

Personal Service Even when VEry Busy

By martin82001 |

A family celebration for a college graduation was highlighted by the personal service given to our large party even during a very busy time for the restaurant. The food was fantastic.

Delicious stuffed salmon

By Dan H |

Walked in on a whim and was glad I did! Great food, drink, & atmosphere.

Great location

By Liz B |

We loved eating outside on the riverwalk. Food a bit overpriced for the quality.

Poor service and food

By mlove17 |

Our server visited our table twice during a two-hour stay, and that's not because we wanted to stay that long: once to take our order, once to bring our food, and then we finally had to track her down. And it wasn't a busy night-- there were only about 10 other customers in the restaurant that probably seats at least 100! The food I had was the worst I've had in a long time-- incredibly burned, tough and lukewarm. I was SO bummed-- had been looking forward to date night all week. We absolutely will not be back unless they change their service and food quality stat.

Love the setting!

By 1900Carol |

This is a wonderful setting overlooking the Willamette River. The food is average....nothing on the menu has changed for a very long time, Presentation of food is about as bland as you can get, Not even a twig of parsley to add color to the plate. They really need a new chef to liven things up on their food preentation.

Lovely Birthday dinner

By Whitney K |

Came here for my husbands birthday dinner and it was perfect. The view is amazing. I'm glad we had a reservation, so we didn't have to wait. Although the seating around the bar seemed very nice as well. The atmosphere was nice. The waitress was phenomenal, very accommodating. We ordered the crab tower as an appetizer, it wasn't quit what we were expecting, so they gladly changed it out for the crab cakes which were PERFECT! My husband got the filet & stuffed shrimp and ate every single bite. I got the chef special Herb crusted cod...to die for. For dessert we had the pie and ice cream and it was superb. We will absolutely dine here again!

Tradition, professionalism, and damned good food...

By Randy S |

This place is run by folks that know what they are doing. The service is almost always first cabin, the seafood is fresh, expertly prepared, and the atmosphere is a blend of 1890's and 2010. Highly recommend them!

Good food and attentive service

By fayo400 |

We met an old friend for dinner while we were in Portland. The varied menu choices will maybe make your decision time just a little longer than usual. We sat outside in the patio area which has a fantastic view of the Columbia River. Our server was great-attentive without being obtrusive and helpful with menu suggestions. The wine and beer menu is also more than adequate. The food quality was great.

Pleasantly Surprised

By lotsoflife |

We stopped by for lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices, good food, and good service. We'd certainly go back again.

Worth the Trip

By Dustin F |

Upscale restaurant and reasonable prices. Good food, good service, and nice atmosphere. Restaurant even had a chef's special that included an appetizer, entree and desert.

Good Restaurant before or after happy hour.

By RachV070 |

I have been happy with all of my experiences at the McCormick and Schmick restaurants from Portland to Colorado. This place is crazy during happy hour and before some theater events that are taking place in the city. If you have time to go when the crowd is smaller you will not be disappointed in the food or service. I have been here over eight times and have never been dissapointed.

Food and service

By travel4scuba |

This restaurant has been going down for year but Daniel put the cherry on the top for poor service. I don’t bother using my Landry points anymore, I don’t want a free meal, I only go to these restaurants when I have no other choice. Walk up to anywhere for better

Just ok

By Jane M |

We have an annual trip to this restaurant before we go see the symphony. It’s a special holiday treat for us that we look forward to all year. Sadly, we were here last Saturday and had a horrible experience. We had reservations, but we’re not seated for 30 minutes even though there were quite a few empty tables. When we asked about it, we were told “they have reservations“. We also had reservations which apparently didn’t count. Once we spoke to the manager and were finally seated we seated at a table we had requested previously that remained open. we had to wait several minutes to even get a menu. Food was OK but not worth $31 for a piece of salmon. Next year we go to another restaurant who would appreciate our business. Don’t go!

If you like chain food restaraunts this eeks of it, if you cannot tell Dennys from Ruth Chris welcome!

By Journeyman644 |

This even though the chain owns some great eateries this is not one of them. This must be their money maker. High prices for standard to below standard serving in a purdy atmosphere. No will not go back. Save money for other vices.

Great Lunch

By Troy V |

Stopped in for a lunch at McCormicks and found the fresh affordable fare a reminder of great seafood! I forgot how much I love this place. Got crusted sole, potatoes, veggies, chowder and a drink for $11. Solid lunch.

Another Landry's hot sopt

By PeterMuse |

Our waiter was new, the food temp had issues, and the way our to-go dish was handled needed to be addressed but Scott the GM followed up immediately upon hearing of these issues and promises a better experience next trip. I have been a loyal fan of Landry's for years so I'm sure this will be fixed.

Wonderful Lemon Drop Martini

By HNBISOFF |

McCormick and Schlmick food was very good. The lemon drop martini was outstanding. The second ingredient must be the real lemon juice, not artificial juice. Outstanding martini.

Great lunch

By David M |

Always good food here. The service is always good, great specials. This is a great "go to" spot for a business lunch. Never feel pressured, regardless of how busy it is.

A wonderful riverside lunch.

By Phytopia |

Not many choices along the river and close to our hotel (RiverPlace), but a stop at M & S filled the bill on a very warm Saturday. We sat outside and it was just great. Good food & fun wait staff.

Great view

By DEL G |

this is a large chain, but food was good and wine selection was good. Waitress was great. This is near the waterfront park, if you go get a seat with a view, some don't have one.

Happy hour lunch

By Flowbleu |

By chance I stopped in for a late lunch over Happy Hour. Most of the riverside tables were taken so I had a limited view of the waterfront but it was a lovely day. They had a variety of options but I went with the coconut shrimp to avoid spicier alternatives and had a side of edamame dusted with sea salt. The salsa made the shrimp delicious. The serving of edamame was generous. Chip the waiter was very attentive. All around an enjoyable meal at a reasonable price.

An old time great restaurant turns south

By Ted B |

I've been to many McCormicks around the nation but NEVER one with such an inflexible staff. Zero ability to substitute off the written menu. If the menu said green beans you could only get green beans even if 5 other veggies were on the menu. Others with me had the same problem so we ordered "as written" and swapped among ourselves. Our waiter clearly did not want to be working the night we were there and he made that absolutely clear. A $250.00 dinner that only left a sour taste.

Great Spot Right on the Water!

By MrMeat9 |

If you want some very good seafood on a happening outdoor patio McCormick and Schmick was great. The atmosphere was great, the food was very good and the service was attentive. A good spot when you're in Portland.

Thanksgiving, 2014

By itslisaj |

I made reservations for Thanksgiving dinner via OpenTable. We arrived a few minutes early and they were hopping. I was sure they would not be running on time. I was wrong! We were seated promptly, had superb service (with knowledgable recommendations by our server), great adult beverages, and delicious food. I had the traditional turkey dinner and The Manfolk had salmon with some amazing chorizo mashed potatoes. Seriously...amazing. We enjoyed the holiday and I appreciated the fact that M&S were open. We tipped well because others lost time with their families because I was lazy. It's a win, baby!

delicious outdoor dining

By Laurie K |

We love to eat outside in nice weather, and they allowed us to have our well-behaved golden retriever with us, too. Food was great - as was the river view and people watching.

Not much commitment here. Very average.

By UKTurkeyTrotter |

We arrived for dinner and were shown to a noisy table. This review is partly about noise. I scouted out a quieter table and we moved there. Other people arrived after our food and this table became noisy. Very difficult to hear what other people in our party were saying, even at a small table. The food looks good on the menu but we had to wait a long time for it to arrive. When it did arrive it was obvious it had been under the 'keep it warm lights' for a long time as the pasta on top of the dish was dried out and turning rubbery and lower down the food was cold. Service was slow and with no obvious rush to improve by the staff. They didn't seem to care and as if they were trading on a once good reputation, now undeserved. Shan't be going again, if I can avoid it.

Outstanding meal, outstanding service

By AlfredoMartin |

We took 4 customers for dinner, and service was outstanding, friendly and prompt. Everyone enjoyed the dinner. The appetizers were terrific. I recommend the coconut shrimp, shrimp kisses and crab cakes. For the meal, I really enjoyed the salmon. It was fresh and cooked to perfection with great vegetables. We had a great experience.

Took forever and they lost ny credit card. Food ok.

By Lindsey D |

We arrived 30mins early for our reservation and When we showed up the bar area was mostly empty so we decided to sit there instead of waiting until our table was ready since we were told they could serve us immediately. We sat there for 15 minutes without anyone addressing us. A waiter happened to walk last to talk to someone else and when we waved him down we were finally able to get menus. By this time our original table was ready so we moved there since it was outside with the view and we (20 minutes in) still had not even had someone say hi to us. Once outside it took us 25 minutes for the waiter to acknowledge that we were there and 30-35 for him to take our drink order. It then took 20 minutes to get our drinks (a pop and a cocktail) and our food came 15 minutes later ice cold. If you do the math we are now at approximately 90 minutes just to get food (crab cake, soup and a salad). All of the food was good, not great, I’ve had way better everywhere else in Portland. We then asked for our check which came quickly and we handed him our card immediately since we had been here for so long and wanted to leave. We then sat for 30 minutes waiting for him to come back with our card after paying when one of the managers came by to ask how we were. We told him that we were just waiting for our card and then disaster struck and he had a very confused look on his face. We then noticed that everyone started walking around frantic and confused looking but still had no idea what was happening. Finally. 10 minutes after asking for our card back… we were told they didn’t know where it was. Apparently the waiter handed the card off to someone else (rather than just ringing it up himself quickly) and at that point was misplaced somewhere. We sat for another almost 30 minutes while everyone apparently searched for the card. A different manager then came out (she was very nice and empathetic to the situation) and told us that they couldn’t find the card and we could give her my contact information and they would call me if/when they found the card and that I should lock my card in the meantime. I WAS LIVIDDDD by this point. The fact that anyone can lose a card and then take an hour of my time because of ZERO communication or organization is beyond unacceptable. We were comped our meal and after leaving the restaurant i got a called within 10 mins saying they found it “upstairs”. During this entire s*** show, there was also a young couple sitting across from us who had been sitting for well over 40 minutes without anyone acknowledging them or bringing them drinks as well. This entire establishment is an absolutely unorganized chaotic s*** show of a restaurant. Yes they were busy because of prom but I have been in places on weeknights where it was wayyy busier than ran smoother than this. The food is not good enough to warrant this chaos and I would highly recommend you NEVER eat here unless you’re willing to spend 2 hours for chaos and ok food.

Good Location, Typical Chain Fare

By Andrew |

The food and service here are decent and typical for this brand. However, I would recommend dining here (in summer particularly) as the location is right on the river and it is a nice way to spend the evening. More about the location than the food but it is decent, there are just so many other options in this foodie Mecca!

Not a bad one

By parviz b |

We had a birthday party there. The meals were not good, but they were average. Beer and wines were OK. And the location is good

Great Food Discreet Service

By Jo W |

We went for a quick bite before a cinema visit. Our server Peter, was polite and unobtrusive, yet we never wanted for anything, he seemed to anticipate what we'd need next and provide it before being asked. Definitely worth a visit

Overpriced but pretty

By MuseumTravel |

Why pay big city prices for this restaurant? Nice atmosphere, great location by the water...but the food is decidedly mediocre...way under what is possible here....come on guys, step it up!! I know you like to make money but invest in better ingredients. Stick to their excellent selection of drinks here and skip the food.

Dinner

Very nice feel and know Seafood restaurant , part of the Landry’s group. Service was great . Samantha was knowledgeable of the fare she is serving . The two wines were great. The Bass in a broth with spinach was great . The grilled Asparagus was alright . The octopus was alright . The service more than made up for this . Overall good visit with everyone very friendly.
