Fine dinner as always

By Marosja |

Once I’m in downtown I try to go there. For one person no reservation needed. As this time. It took some moment I was recognized. Small details to improve, but kindness of the waitress can compensate it. Wifi code provided on request. Lemon to water was not brought, but bread not asked yes. Tuna with wasabi potatoes was a bit more done than asked, bit hot with veggie, but still very good. So be aware of. Glass of recommended pinot suited well. Restaurant is on my list and will remain there.

Happy Hour

By Karina Opperman |

Great selection and service! Happy hour 7Days a week 4-6:30.. Cheap and delicious eats and the bartender was so helpful and the drinks were just as good!

Great clam chowder

By Tim H |

This was one of our favorite meals while in Chicago. The clam chowder ranks among the best I've ever had. The fish was also excellent. Bartender Yancy was very pleasant and made us feel at home.

Nice place for dinner!

By Aspen P |

I visited with a couple of old friends for dinner. The atmosphere was very nice, and the service was outstanding. The only miss for us was the octopus appetizer, which was extremely tough. Every other item we were served was delicious!

Good Thanksgiving Turkey Meal

By Sandy |

Went to this restaurant because it was next to our hotel and open on Thanksgiving. We had the tradition turkey dinner and it was great. They have an issue with fruit flies which ended up in my husband’s bourbon. They were flying around too. We overlooked it because the dinner was great.

Not so good

By Melih B |

Great location, service very slow, steak and sides disappointed. The salad and dessert was nice but price quality ratio too low.

Great Seafood with an incredible view from the patio - opens at 4

By Mary Jo K |

I live about 3 blocks from here and really enjoy their outdoor patio which has really great views. They have a happy hour menu from 4-6:30 - great if you just want to have a drink and rest your feet. On my most recent visit, we had the pistachio crusted trout - big enough for 2 people to share if you add in an appetizer. They have a nice selection of seafood - wines by the glass run $9 - $11 (standard for Chicago). Service is excellent.

Best Happy Hour

By Dabado13 |

This is a great place for Happy Hour M-F 3:30 to 6:30. There are many food options available and the drinks are tasty. Try the Korean BBQ chicken and the cheese burger.

Value not found here

By Shawn L |

We have been to a few McCormick & Schmick's over the years, including this location 5+ years ago. This experience has definitely fallen below brand standards. Normally this would be considered a fine dining, but this location was more on par with a casual dining - such as a Red Lobster (but not near those low prices) We ordered the chef's special (which was on the menu but not a daily special as there were none offered here) The salmon was dry on the chef's special. The oysters were fairly priced , but when brought to our table there was nothing offered to distinguish which was which in the variety we selected The sides (green beans/potatoes) were average and had nothing special. Our drinks were tasty and probably the best part of our experience. The stuffed salmon we also ordered was incredibly salty. Overall, this was a miss on "fine dining" and you would be best served to find other spots where you can get better return on your money. Try Joe's, a little pricier but far better in quality and experience.

Great Steak

By Sarasati W |

We decided to have dinner at McCormick because it was on our way back to our accommodation. It turned out the best dinner we had while we were in Chicago. Food was good, great service. It is a bit pricey but it was worthed.

Average

By Vladimir H |

The food was very average. Especially for the price. Lobster tails were small. Stuffed shrimp didn’t taste any better than Red Lobster. Salmon was dry. I’m sorry but that’s how we felt. Waiter was very nice and attentive. Restaurant was nicely decorated. Restrooms were clean.

Exquisite food and service

By kathyd_March2017 |

Had Christmas lunch here and I could not fault the food nor the service. Had an absolutely to die for Maine Lobster Bisque - my first ever and it was absolutely divine

Average meal, average service

By Jigtin |

We chose to dine here for our Anniversary. I noted that on the reservation. Upon arrival to our table, there was a little sign that ready Happy Anniversary. That was all that was mentioned or celebrated. No free drink or dessert like at the Capital Grille. The restaurant was very dark and played very loud pop music. I didn’t mind the music, but I thought it was an odd choice for a steakhouse and way too loud. I could barely hear my husband across the table. I could also barely see the menu because it was so dark in there. We waited for our bread basket to come but never received one. Not sure if they offer complimentary bread for the table, but I saw other tables with bread. And if I have to pay for a bread basket at this price point, then I’ll go elsewhere. My husband ordered the special surf and turf fillet and lobster tail and I ordered the Chilean sea bass. We also had a cup of lobster bisque which was meh. The meals were wonderful. Best sea bass I’ve ever had. Our server was cold at best and did not check on us very often. I felt like we put him out if we asked him for pepper, which by the way, was not on any table. And you needed salt and pepper! This meal and experience was average at best for $150. About $50 too much in my opinion.

Excellent

By IndianaScubaGirl |

Excellent food, excellent service. Highly recommend. Their calamari appetizer was fantastic and the extra vegetables and peppers in the dish made it even better. Clam chowder was delicious and full of flavor. The crab cakes, probably the best crab cake we have ever had. Fantastic and primarily crab meat, not fillers. Ivo was our server and he was so very attentive, friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this place!

Absolutely delightful

By Janet L |

Recently a group of 10 dined and had a wonderful experience. Our waiter was so attentive, each of our meals were delicious, the atmosphere was conducive to conversation. This was a great experience.

Lovely lunch!

By pamelabA7925YV |

Had a late lunch here last week. Food was great and wait staff was very attentive and pleasant! Gave good food recommendations! Tasty!

Great. Steak.

By pejackson94606 |

Old school steakhouse. Dark paneling with modern art. Excellent service, excellent steak and sides, excellent cocktails. I’d even call it a bargain compared to other local steakhouses (and there are many in the north loop). Doggie bag, please...

Lovely Decor Good meal!

By deneen_coleashbury |

We went in a Wednesday night for dinner. It was recommended to us. I had the filet and lobster tail special w truffle frites and a Cesar salad. I asked for no croutons in my salad and got no croutons and no cheese. Our waiter was a bit distracted but it was fixed. The steak was perfect and the tails tasty! Wine list is great! If you are having dessert, the creme brûlée was perfect and big enough to share! I would def recommend this restaurant.

Nice outdoor dining amidst People watching downtown

By Grolsh |

I tend not to do chain places but this was closer to my hotel and I was pressed for time and it has a real nice outside dining area that gets sun till about 130p. Gazpacho soup was really good as was the seared ahi tuna. Great place to hang and people watch in the down town.

Anniversary trip

By Jim T |

We picked this restaurant because it was our last night in Chicago and was near our hotel. It has nice outdoor seating and it was a wonderful evening. Most entrees are $18 or more with several at $30 or more. The food is worthy of 4 stars. The service and timeliness of receiving our food was not. Although the outside seating was quite busy, inside was mostly empty. Our food took so long to come out that our waiter, when he showed up, brought us a complimentary appetizer. He even took my wife’s drink off the bill. While we were sitting there another couple had been seated nearby after us. They waited quite awhile and then left because no one waited on them. Again it was an expensive restaurant with lackluster service. The men’s room was also drab and in need of cleaning. The toilet seat was so used that the finish had worn off and you could see the wood. We will not return here.

Average

Service slow but well done. Miso Chilean sea bass ,udon noodles very good cooked to perfection their Pinot Grigio spoiled part of my meal why such a cheap wine. That is the reason for my quotation

Happy Hour Puts You In a Happy Place

By William C |

I've done dinner here once, and to be brutally candid, I was not impressed. BUT ... you will not find a better place between 4:00 and 6:30 for Happy Hour than McCormick's. In fair weather, there is only one place to sit - on the spacious outdoor patio directly on Wacker Drive. You can people watch all through your stay, and the view of the surrounding buildings, including the awesome Trump Tower (a glass marvel) is worth it alone. So ... what's so great about Happy Hour here. Of course, there are drink specials at special prices (for Chicago this is a rare bargain). But the real treat is the Tuesday through Thursday specials. On Tuesday it's tacos. On Wednesday (get this) it's fresh oysters on the half shell and jumbo shrimp (the oxymoron aside, they ARE jumbo) for $1 each. Yup, that's not a misprint. $1 each for as many as you can eat. And they are wonderful. On Thursday, it's Oysters Rockefeller for $2 each. So ... where to go for your Happy Place? Go to McCormick's at Happy Hour and chill.

Great for lunch

By NboroGirl |

We decided to forgo a big dinner on our last night in Chicago and head here, a short walk from our hotel, for lunch and it was wonderful. Surprisingly there were hardly any other customers. Kevin was our server and he was great. I ordered the Waygu Steak Salad - delicious and the meat was cooked perfectly. My spouse and I split the chocolate flourless cake and that, too, was delicious. I definitely recommend this place, especially for lunch.

Predictably good in a warm setting!

By CharmingACM |

Business dinner. Everyone enjoyed their fish selections. Bread is delicious. Salads are ample and tasty and well presented. portions are generous. Service was on point. Great location and always meets expectations.

Worst place ever

By Susan B |

Worst salmon I’ve ever had. Food came cold when I said something to the waiter all they did was throw it in the microwave for a minute. Terrible food don’t waste your money. My husband got chicken and it was like rubber. They never even apologized for the cold food. Who microwaves cooked fish?? I can’t say enough about how bad it was. Trying to contact the manager and you can’t even call and get a person on the phone. This place sucks!! Overpriced as well….what steakhouse does not serve a baked potato either! Don’t go to this place! You’ve been warned! Awful!!

Decent for a Chain

By Davanrn |

We dined here for dinner in August. The restaurant wasn't very busy. Service was sloppy. Our waiter was nice but young and not well trained. He forgot bread to the table and forgot a salad. They allow BYOB. I brought a California Cab which was great but the cork was a challenge. They eventually triumphed and even waived the corkage fee which was very nice. The food was very good. Steak flavorful. My daughter's scallops were good. Prices about average for the city.

Lovely meal!

By rpm186nlr |

My wife spied this place near our hotel and thought we should try it before seeing the Tedeschi Trucks Band at the Chicago Theatre. It was perfect! The food was excellent, our server was pleasant, engaging and accommodating and lovely ambiance. I had a steak and my wife had chicken - both were excellent! Would happily eat here again!

A team favorite when in Chicago

By GCKJA |

One of my favorite places to go for after-work dinner with colleagues. The service is excellent, the atmosphere upscale but not pretentions, and the food is really great.

Spectacular seafood towers

By Tim J |

Private dinner meeting with superior service. The seafood tower is a meal in itself. Fine wines, excellent cocktails, wide variety of food on the menu. The seared scallops we first class and the crab cake definitely worthwhile. This a pricey but legendary eating spot and worth the investment. Really attentive staff.

Not thankful 4 that Thanksgiving

By Queeniefb2468 |

Generic bland blah meh!! Turkey roll which was dry, ice cream scoop of stove top stuffing, ketchup cup of cranberry sauce, the pumpkin pie was still cold straight from the freezer. I'd be better off driving through McDonald's instead of Mccormick's.

Nice Celebration

By A J |

We celebrated Veterans Day here for the meal. It was a great gesture by the restaurant. The food was nice and I had no complaints. The only drawback was that I was ready for he apple pie but they were out for the next two hours. That was a real let down. We were bummed.

Excellent upscale seafood, enjoyed the service, except the bait

By hockeyguy25 |

Went for dinner before a play at the Oriental Theater. We really enjoyed the shrimp kisses appetizer, Shrimp wrapped in bacon on a corn relish, and the crab cake was very good, although I prefer a mustard sauce. The New England clam chowder was very tasty as well and big chunks of clam. The sesame crusted ahi tuna dinner was so good my wife finished before offering a taste. The sea bass was excellently prepared with a ginger miso glaze. The crab legs were already split and easy to pull out of the shell. The waitress did not provide small forks, nor did she bring a bowl for the crab leg shells. Lemons after playing with crab would have been nice and was expected at such a restaurant. The other major negative was our waitress described a discount program for regular diners that was supposed to have been "free", only to find a $25 charge on the bill. Might go unnoticed as we told her we were going to a play and might not have checked the bill due to timing. Don't get duped. Enjoy the food and would definitely come back. They supposedly have a good happy hour special that varies by day of the week.

Great place for a business meeting

By Keith G. |

Was in town for a tradeshow (WEFTEC) and we decided to have a business meeting after the show. Arrived and immediately seated, with only complaint being that the restaurant was cold. We ordered calamari for the table, and it was very good. I ordered the Vroen Sugar cedar salmon, and it was actually better than expected. Overall great service and when in town, would be back.

Theater Dinner

By tjmm1985 |

Dined at McCormick and Schmick's before a night at the theater. The wedge salad enough for two to share. The cobia was fresh and plentiful with fresh beans and mashed potatoes. The 6oz filet medium was tender, full of flavor, and also served with mashed potatoes is a must. Warm bread was served with salad many drinks to pair with meal. This is a great location and no notice of short staffing. Give this location your business in downtown Chicago along the river!

Seafood & Steak Crave for Your Attention

By Awad S |

For a special occasion, my wife and I ad lunch with 2 other couples, yesterday at this excellent "Seafood" restaurant. It is well located and looks beautiful, especially from the exterior perspective. As a tip, it is best to check out parking locations, before arriving. No valet parking was available. There is one Parking (building) on East Lake St that is close enough (around $36). I did not have to use it, since I lucked out and had the only spot left just outside the restaurant, where one can pay via the sidewalk parking kiosk. We all shared Fried Calamari, as an appetizer, which was excellent. The accompanying red and white sauces were slightly hot and delicious, but, I prefer squeezing lemon tranches and ordered a few more. Mondavi Fume wine was excellent. My wife and I shared Wild Isle Salmon and Chilean Sea Bass. Both dishes were delicious and came in satisfying "European" portions. Our friends also liked what they ordered. The highlight was, finally, sharing an absolutely delicious "Upside Down Apple Pie", with Cinnamon flavored ice cream tucked on its side - to die for. I will go back just for this dessert. Overall the company was most wonderful, the food delicious, for a 'whale' of a price - thinking seafood - but definitely worth it as a special occasion. By the way, on our table, Seafood won the day.

Good choice for seafood

By rodash |

An attractive space with private booths, well-situated near many attractions. The menu offers many choices including combination platters. Good service. Dessert menu is a bit over the top.

Great Food! Excellent Service! Great Happy Hour!!!

By BaldSerb |

Food was awesome! Recommend going for happy hour drinks and try bunch of appetizers! Drinks for happy hour were also fairly priced.

High pressure sales

By GardenFanGeorgia |

For many years we’ve enjoyed eating at McCormick & Schmick’s restaurants in Chicago when we visited. This last experience was the worst ever because of the eager waiter’s high pressure sales tactics. She was well intentioned and just trying to earn a living but the restaurant management had clearly trained wait staff on ways to boost the tab. Shadowing her was a “chef” to tell us even more about the food. All very painful! The food was fine—especially our salads and the seafood was cooked perfectly. We were sorry though to see the greatly diminished seafood selections. I doubt we’ll return to this restaurant’s locations in Chicago or elsewhere—too many other options—and at far lower prices! And we used to be shareholders in the company that owned M&S!

NOT worth the money

By Bob L |

Never eaten at this location and was excited to have some good food based on prior experiences. Waiter was very friendly initially. Clam chowder was Ok but it went downhill from there. I got the blackened redfish ($41). I've had better fish at home! VERY over cooked with hardly a hint of blackening. Not sure what spice they use but not great. Buddies got burgers ($22) but Five Guys is better. Bill came apparently waiter wasn't happy with top because he started mumbling while clearing the table. Walked past him to/from restroom and he didn't acknowledge us. With so many choices in the city, we made the wrong one and WON'T be going back.

Exceptional!!

By marybethusher |

We went here for a birthday celebration. Our reservation was for 6:15 and we were taken exactly in time. Our server was great! He managed to keep up with all of our requests but also allowed us breathing room so we could visit and enjoy our food. We started with oysters and tuna tartare made at the table side. Both were excellent. We ordered a wide variety of entrees and each was outstanding. I had Parmesan crusted trout. It came with butternut orzo and green beans. The table ordered extra sides(two types of mashed potatoes and Mac cheese with lobster). These were great too. M& S provided a wonderful desert for the birthday girl. We also ordered the Chocolate Bag to split. Talk about decadent. Well worth the cost. This was a great place to celebrate. Valet parking right in front of the building. They have a Happy Hour everyday with drink and food specials

Steak and seafood dinner!

By lmp199 |

Very high end restaurant! Gourmet food. Fantastic seafood and steak options. A bit pricey. But it worth it for the quality of food and the ambiance!

Really? Why be so snooty for such a crappy experience?

By Jim O |

Quick catch up with a friend so we sat at the bar- it had been occupied so they cleared the plates and glasses and didn't even wipe the bar top before putting napkins down and producing the napkin/silverware- Uh- but we were at the hotel next door and famished so figured it is M&S... good food is coming... like NYC, DC, Cinci etc. We perused the wine list and some of the Coravin/Argon tech glasses caught our eye but we didn't know them and at $30+/glass we figured a taste was in order- the bartender informed us "we don't do tastings for these premium wines"- really- we are about to drop $200 plus for dinner and drinks and that is your attitude? We should have walked- Mastros, Prime, RPM and many other places provide a taste of their premium list. So we persevere and order soup, salad, octopus and steaks. Octopus comes first (v salad) and it is tough. Soup is cold so we ask for a redo- comes back luke warm. Salad arrives and it is wilted. Steaks come around and not cooked to order... send back and still wrong- really- the whole time the bar service team is gone so order wrong and we wait- no one asks how anything is and are we happy? 3rd try isn't right but we are done so we eat around the parts acceptable... shared it wasn't so good with the staff and got the shoulder shrug- no compensation- so we pay and leave and they thank us for coming in- yes we shorted the tip but wow this was a terrible experience. Checking with other people our experience isn't unique. Customer service is so poor it is hard to imagine what was going on this evening... never saw a manager or someone to share our concerns with that evening.

To each his own, I guess

By Patti M |

Having visited several McCormick & Schmick locations over the years, I expected a particular experience: old fashioned service, well-crafted basic menu, and comfortable ambience. Our family arrived about 6pm and was seated at a corner booth right away. The server was attentive and eager to please. So far so good, right? Wait- what was that again? I CAN’T HEAR MYSELF THINK because of the sound level. It wasn’t the patrons being boisterous although the bar area was hopping at happy hour. It was music from the 70s and 80s, not even the music of the bar crowd. But why does it have to be so loud that you must shout over your meal? How does that enhance the dining experience? Determined not to let it ruin my meal, I ordered the whitefish special, my husband had the grilled sea bass and our son ordered a steak. The guys were happy with their orders but the whitefish was limp, overbreaded and under seasoned. I should have passed on this evening out.

Exensive menu and many classic dishes

By Pooya Khodadadi |

We came here for a business meeting and the food did not disappoint. We were a large group and the waiter took good care of us. Only suggestion I have is the speed it took for the service as there seemed to be a slight lag at times. Besides that the food and drinks were good and the place provided a nice calming ambiance to talk and conduct your business while enjoying the food.

They Steak Their Reputation On Having a Great Meal

By Wade K |

It may not be a tradition to not eat a home cooked meal on Christmas Day, but have that meal at McCormick and Schmick's, and you may be tempted to change your mind. While it may have seafood in it's title, this restaurant has enough variety to satisfy even the pickiest eater. For this occasion, I chose the chopped steak, cooked medium rare along with a side salad. The salmon was the choice of my dinner companions along with asparagus and mashed potatoes. Each of us were pleased by our choices-my steak cooked to perfection and the salmon had the same outcome. The wait staff while busy with the holiday diners, never let our water glasses get too close to empty and were able to give us a dining experience consistent with the joyous holiday.

Poor

By Ibberdies |

I ordered the sea bass, grilled. It was cold inside. That was exceptionally disappointing. When I complained, they took it back and grilled it again. They did nothing, however, about the vegetables I’d been served, so that when they returned my plate to me, the vegetables were cool. I was charged full price for the dish.

Average at best

By Russell C |

Decided on dinner close to hotel. Ate near a window by the front door. Server was smoking outside and flipped her cigarette butt at base of window. Very appetizing. Ordered NY Strip which came out wrong from kitchen. Steak was definitely not the best in Chicago. If want to enjoy a steak I recommend somewhere else.

Lucky to get 3 stars

By Bigcityeater |

To be brutally honest 3 stars is generous in terms of rating. We started with Oyster Rockefeller served cold, taste was ok nothing special but cold? We also had a very poor mussel dish which was barely warm and without flavor. The Tuna my wife had was poor my stuffed salmon was average, the service was poor, the bill was high, would not return

Great Time with Friends

By nedrenee |

The ambiance of the dining area was soothing and relaxing. My husband and I met up with friends. This was the perfect setting to catch up. Quiet and tranquil.Service from Sabrina was outstanding. She explained items of choices well with great pairing for wines.

Wonderful and enjoyable dinner with great service.

By EAZELIFF |

I have been in this area of Chicago many times, but this is my first time at this restaurant. I came away highly pleased. When dining alone ( some people cannot imagine that but I am an expert ! ) it is important if a server chats with me and makes me feel welcome. Mark fit the bill. The fried oyster and Parmesan flounder were just delicious and the type of dinner I had in mind. Highly recommended and I will return next time.

Great location and service but average food

By L S |

We reserved our table on Open Table and had no problem getting a reservation on a Saturday night. Restaurant was nice, but very dark inside. We did not have to wait to get seated. Waiter was nice and very attentive. We were actually checked on by a few waiters to make sure all was good. Food was average. I had the Salmon and shrimp and my daughter had the Swordfish. Presentation was nice, but just wasn’t “wowed” by the flavor.

Delicious food and cocktails!

By PSusanp123 |

M&S's restaurant is beautiful, comfortable and has the perfect atmosphere in which to celebrate any occasion. Our food was excellent, from my husband's clam chowder and wedge salad, to my delicious entree of filet and lobster. Each course was served in a timely manner and at the correct temperature. Our cocktails were perfect and I highly recommend the House Old Fashioned. Prices are more than reasonable for this restaurant in the heart of River North. If you dine here, be sure to request Diego as your server. He is one of the best in the city! He was attentive to every detail of our dining experience, without being intrusive. He is friendly, articulate and very knowledgeable of both food and wine items on the menu. They have a great Happy Hour, too!

Excellent fish, not so good oysters

By Thomas G |

We were a group of seven people, some of us had steak some fish dishes. The fish was excellent the oysters as appetizers were average, service was good and quick.very positive for a european visitor: it was not so loud like normally in American restaurants and not so cold which is even more astonishing.

Good but have had better

By munchkin |

We've been to this restaurant often but was somewhat disappointed this time. The service was good, as it usually is. Our calamari appetizer was crisp and tasty. We were surprised, however, that our soups were served with the appetizer. My clam chowder was lukewarm, not much flavor, and the potatoes were borderline hard. My entree, stuffed salmon, was delicious. My husband had the scallops, very good, but disappointed that he only got four medium size. We will be back again when we are downtown, still one of the better restaurants around.

up scale

By Dudley H |

This is up scale dinning with good service and good food. Extensive wine list and bar drinks. Quite enough for conversations

Great, Reliable, Place.

By jerome k |

The atmosphere of McCormick and Schmick in Rosemont is warm and inviting. Very classy bar and restaurant. I’ve been going there for years because we’ve always had delicious food and tasty drinks. Our waiter last time we were there Scott was fantastic. He was very attentive to us, and yet not pushy. And I never feel that the prices are outrageous

Overpriced, under-portioned, and lack of quality

By Cohibaba |

Wow - what a disappointment. Figured this would be a great Thanksgiving event, but turned out to be anything but that... Started off with poorly (diluted) made drinks, appetizers that were cold and the restaurant clearly lacking service personnel. The steaks we ordered were EXTREMELY undercooked (had to return them). The Turkey dinner w/ all the trimmings was dry, with VERY small portions of all the side dishes. The manager

Very good

By B G |

We really our dinner at this restaurant. Great menu. Something to suit all tastes. Excellent service from the minute we arrived until we left the restaurant. Our server Michael was very good. We will return.

Good food

By Martin F |

As expected from this chain restaurant there was good service and good food. Unrushed in the time I spent there but always attended when required. Great position and I'll be back again when I'm in Chicago.

Excellent seafood dinner

By Kenneth D |

I was very impressed with the quality of the seafood as it was fresh and prepared exactly as I requested. The service was excellent as well and will return on my next visit to Chicago.

Excellent seafood and service

By matt willigman |

My wife and I came for lunch during restaurant week. We were greeted immediately by the person who would become our waiter. His service was polite and professional. He seriously did a great job. The restaurant was very clean and had your traditional steakhouse vibe in a good way. To start, I had the wedge salad and my wife had the butternut squash soup. Her soup was good, but the salad blew me away. They bleu cheese dressing was phenomenal. For our main dishes, my wife had the fish tacos, which were some of the best we've ever had, and I had the salmon. I don't like salmon generally, but this was fantastic. It had a maple sauce and was served on a farro risotto. For dessert, my wife had the creme brulee, which was fine, and I had the chocolate cake. I didn't know you could get that much chocolate into a cake. Overall, I highly recommend and can't wait to come back.

Nice Early Dinner

By SteveNScottsdale |

I started with a cup of clam chowder and had parmesan crusted flounder. Both were very tasty. The service was attentive and a pleasant dinning room.

What happened?

By Rebecca B |

I have been to many McCormick and Schmidt's restaurants in the U.S. I was looking forward to dining here with my family for our trip to Chicago as I have never been disappointed with this chain. Unfortunately this one changed that opinion. To begin with...the cocktails were VERY watered down and I believe that I did not get the liquor that I requested...in fact, I am positive. I have been drinking it for over 30 years...I am not sure if they substituted what I requested or added alot of water. The appetizers that we ordered were awful....the cook must have been new and/or unqualified....and being busy would not be an excuse as the place only had a few customers. Our entrees weren't much better. Note to management: Keep your workers away from their phones and drinks...this is low class.

Not Impressed

By cdmomx4 |

Great ambiance. Nice menu. Service was very slow (sat for 10 minutes before our server even came by the table) and a little pushy. Food was good but not outstanding. For the prices I was expecting much more.

Good steaks! 👍🏽

By Cool Rider |

Very central and good steaks. The fish dishes were average to my liking. Lack taste and very dry. The steak were well prepared and very juicy. Price is a little on higher side but it comes with great service and ambiance.

Good seafood and service

By MikeJennyQ |

Good seafood and service. Was with a group as a guest. They picked it seems good. Hosts frequent other McCormick and Schmick's and love them. Would return

The Happy Hour deal was incredible

By Carl R |

My wife and I went at 5 o’clock and sat in the bar. They had a happy hour menu with very cheap prices. We had the bruschetta (3 dollars), burger with fries (5,50 dollars), coconut shrimp (9,50). We also had two signature cocktails and two glasses of Pinot Noir (decent Pinot, not great) and the prices were 7 dollars each. After the dinner we both agreed that’s the food had a high standard and was very price worthy. If we lived closer we’d do that happy hour weekly.

Unauthorised transaction

By Camper732134 |

Visited this restaurant last night to celebrate an Anniversary and was very disappointed to find out today that an additional charge of approximately 40 dollars was made on my cash card by the restaurant without my permission Left a cash tip and assume they decided it wasn’t sufficient and therefore help them self to a further 40 dollars I certainly won’t be back

Great holiday dinner!

By DonnieHunter |

Visited with my wife and parents for dinner on the 3rd July while on holiday. Very nice restaurant with a mix of tables and booths. We were seated in one of the booths which was very comfortable. Service was excellent, Jeff was able to answer any questions we had and was very attentive throughout. Food was delicious! We started with calamari, shrimp kisses and prawn cocktail followed by two centre cut ribeye steaks, a sea bass and a teriyaki salmon. I personally had one of the steaks and shared a side of asparagus and the Mac and cheese with my Dad. The steaks were excellent! Cooked exactly as we asked, very tender and full of flavour! If I was going again I probably wouldn’t bother with the Mac and cheese but I would recommend the asparagus as a side. Not cheap but definitely worth the price. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good meal in Chicago!

Tasty but slow

By Susan K |

Super slow service and they aren't even busy. Steak and Mac/cheese were wonderful. Mashed potatoes were tasty but cold. Nice place if you want to sit and not be bothered. If you are hungry, you will be frustrated

Very tasty meal, not cheap

By Mandy M |

Had marinated tuna with sushi rice and asparagus. Very tasty. Cooked on the outside raw on the middle. Husband had a steak and mash he said was very good

Possibly the best steak I ever ate!

By Lee C |

Service was excellent, as was the food. 10 greens salad was delicious and a meal in itself. Beef fillet was a perfect medium rare and melted in my mouth, plus came with sides. Cat into far more expensive steak houses where everything is à la cart, this was a far better experience.

Beautiful Location by the River

By ksandrat2017 |

This is truly a little piece of gold tucked away. The service is always exceptional. The staff is very knowledge and accommodating. The happy hours drinks are AMAZING! Wednesday $1 shrimp or oyster is my weakness. I can stay for hours laughing on the beautiful patio with my girlfriends or hubby!

Always such a treat...

By MaelaJean |

For the past ten years, my mom & I have treated ourselves to a lovely dinner out at McCormick & Schmick's at least once a year. They never fail to deliver excellent food and service. I usually get a scallops dish (my favorite!) but ventured out for a Chilean Sea Bass last week with great results. Everything I've ever had there is fresh, perfectly prepared, and delectable.

So So Food, Terrible Service

By ed l |

I expected fine dining and received Black Angus quality food and 7-Eleven service. Chicago has many excellent fine dining choices with great food and professional, qualified staff; Why waste your time and money on subpar food and staff? - our party's 8pm reservation was ignored until 8:40 with no apology - server did not appear until much later - breadbaskets never made it to our table - staff offered to transfer bar tab after our table finally became available, then idiot, functionally illiterate host guy insisted we pay before being seated (is there a manager running this place?) - great location in downtown chicago

Mid to high priced but service is excellent

By MNescaped |

I was here on business with some local colleagues. They were really up on the fish here but as I am not excited about fish so much I was going to try the steak. My colleagues said no - if you wanted steak we should go elsewhere. So I had the butterflied shrimp. It was excellent. The service impressed me with attention and follow-up.

Lousy Takeout Service and Mediocre Food

By heyralphieboy |

This is a review of our takeout experiences. Each time we order takeout from M&S, we are reminded that their food does not travel well. We have an approximately 8 minute ride from the Rosemont location. Each time, the food is only lukewarm and the sides are cold and sparse. For the price, I would expect more than a tiny handful of cold fries. Also, the dipping sauce container was not properly closed and spilled in the takeout container. As for the food quality; we had the crab and shrimp stuffed salmon, the McCormick cheeseburger, and the shrimp kisses appetizer. The salmon was overcooked and the stuffing had hardly any noticeable amount of crab or shrimp and the mashed potatoes were cold. The cheeseburger was properly cooked. However, the seasoning was inconsistent. Some bites were well seasoned while others were flavorless. The only positive was the shrimp kisses appetizer. Absolutely delicious! But, the cup of dipping sauce was spilled in the takeout container. All in all, for such a high-end restaurant specializing in seafood and steaks, their takeout service and food quality leave a lot to be desired. This is not an isolated incident. We have experienced these issues multiple times. So, why do we continue to go back time-after-time? Family members keep giving us M&S gift cards and we don't have the heart to tell them that we have been let down each time.

Great Location, Great Food, Great View

By NathanKelp |

On the bank of the river. We dinned on the lower level overlooking the water. Great atmosphere. The occasion was a dinner with many guests. The service was outstanding, as was the food. Every aspect of the evening was impeccably attended to. Kudos to the staff and the management.

Feeling a Bit Dated ay M&S

By traveltime841 |

Came here for dinner on a holiday Monday night - was not festive inside between low music, dark lighting and large space that was mostly unfilled. Food was average - fish was somewhat tasty but between the 2 appetizers and 2 entrees nothing was overly memorable. While prices are less crazy than direct competitors, the service, food and atmosphere were also a step down. Would consider going back again in a pinch if other places were not available, but unlikely to be first choice if in the area

Not the best M&S Experience

By Alan W |

Been a loyal M&S patron for years. What a disappointment! Restaurant was understaffed and it showed. Online reservation system down for days despite being told it wasn't working. Bar tender is absolutely outstanding!! Used to love the Ahi tuna. now it comes way too spicy. Bread still the best of anywhere! Just didn't come up to expectations.

Good Place to eat.

By cwillini |

My Aunt from California was visiting our family. We had just got done walking around the Riverwalk and my girls decided that we should eat at this restaurant. The food was very good, but rather pricey. Enjoyed our time there and my Aunt enjoyed it too.

Great Dinner

By Lackland B |

We had a great family dinner here. Food, service and ambiance were all first class. Nice location on the River.

Good food and service

We ate here with our family group and were not disappointed the service and the food were very good. We were able to enjoy the family and conversation easily.

Very Enjoyable

By BalhamBlonde |

We visited this restaurant on 3rd August for my husband’s 60th birthday celebration and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. My husband and I both had the Parmesan crusted fish which was utterly delicious - can’t remember what our two grown up kids had but they really loved the food. The kids didn’t hang around, which was a shame, because our lovely waitress brought out the husband’s 60th birthday cake just as the kids left (they had places they wanted to go!). But we appreciated the restaurants lovely gesture. We were all rather surprised that this restaurant wasn’t busier, it’s a shame as we found the food and the service to be excellent. If we could we would be back soon, but living in the UK poses a bit of a problem.

seafood in style and more!!!

By bwoe |

when looking for an 'institution' to enjoy friendly and knowledgeable service, great menu options, nice wine list, plenty of other drinks to choose from and on top of it all a variety of seafood which can be mixed and matched with your flavor of condiments and sides, how not to enjoy an evening amongst friends and colleagues. there is also outdoor seating very near the chicago riverwalk, however, the temperatures called for indoor cool.

Great location, okay dining

By TheAvidObserver |

We opted for this at the last minute, over nearby Catch35 which we ended up visiting for a "snack" after our dinner, and while the food was okay, we would recommend Catch 35 instead for seafood lovers. The halibut at McCormick's was at most 1cm thick, a shameful cut for such a beautiful fish, and the plates were adorned with enough side potato to feed two. The culinary "vibe" is closer to steakhouse than fine seafood dining. The real highlight was the outdoor patio seating right across from the river and one of the many bridges crossing the Chicago river, and for that alone worthy of a visit if your expectations are for a more casual (though not casually priced) steak and fish dinner.

Relaxing atmosphere and good food

By Anne E |

Don't know why this place doesn't get better reviews. Never have had a bad meal here. Service is very good and you can actually carry on a conversation without shouting. Fish is very good and happy hour is amazing.

Poor service, manager and staff Wacker Street

By Veronica S |

Restaurant deserves Zero stars. Waited 1.5 hrs, never got served. Asked for manager waited 20 minutes. It was not until we got up to leave did she show up. too late! Do not waste your time with this restaurant, go around the corner to Emerald Loop for good food and great service.

Salty steak and poor service

By Ruarí |

I dined in this restaurant while on a business trip, and having a rare night off I treated myself to a steak dinner. As I was on my own I was placed at the bar, an oddity of American dining that I have never liked or been able to get used to. The server behind the bar had an uncanny ability of being able to look everywhere except at the bar, making it surprisingly and frustratingly difficult to get his attention. I even had to stand up and walk to the other end of the bar at one point just to get him to notice me and see that I needed something. I had stuffed shrimp to start followed by a filet steak, medium rare. The only good thing I can say is that the fries with herbs were nice. The shrimp sauce just tasted on lightly flavoured mayonnaise, and the steak was so salty I couldn't enjoy it at all. Honestly, if I want salt I'll add it myself. Despite all this, I gave an approx 18% tip. Having worked in the service industry I appreciate how important this is. However, instead of $12 I had $17 added on my credit card, which of course I only found out later. Having kept the receipt it couldn't be clearer that I intended to leave $12. A terrible dinner followed by essentially a theft, or at the very least an insulting lack of attention to detail when dealing with finance.

Good Dinner in Downtown Chicago

By Anthony |

We dropped by here for dinner. Our table was comfortable, though a bit cozy once our neighboring tables filled up. Our appetizers and seafood dishes came out well, though the soups were on the saltier side. Our server was attentive and gave good recommendations.

Awesome as usual

By barlowdan6 |

Each time I come to the city I always eat here, the food is always fantastic and it was again - Bone in Ribeye and Shimp pasta. The service was fantastic as ever, I'd highly recommend this place as the prices are very reasonable too

Not bad. But not amazing. Run of the mill steakhouse

By Jeremy C |

Not a bad experience, but not an incredible one either. It has somewhat of an outdated interior and the music did not match the ambience. With shrimp cocktail, the shrimp were good with a cocktail sauce did not seem to be house made. Steak was cooked accurately the service was not stellar, but not terrible either. The brussels sprouts with. prosciutto were quite good. Again, not a bad experience, but if you were looking for an upscale steakhouse, I would look elsewhere.

Service was great but food was pretty meh.

By FOTMM |

We arrived on the early side for lunch. The bread was the highlight. Meals were fairly run of the mill and portion sizes seemed off. Some items, like the salads and sandwiches were quite large, while the steak and seafood entrees were tiny by comparison.

great steaks

By firebear1961 |

3 of us went here for dinner, was not crowded at all, no wait. food was ordered and it came fast. The steaks was great.

This is a complete tourist trap, no way a local would eat this food. Service was horrible, food was worse.

By harrywCalgary |

Our table of 4 tried pasta dishes and steak. Both were horrible. Pasta was soaked in oil, it looked like soup, very disgusting. Also, we were in the lounge and there was a guy walking through trying to sell cocaine, real nice place

Great food, Poor Service

By munchkin |

My husband and I ate here for our 20th anniversary. I sent the restaurant a note but wasn't expecting anything special. They acknowledged the anniversary when we entered and gave us a lava cake dessert on the house, very nice. The food is consistently good but the service the past two times was not. We had to wait for water both times for up to ten minutes. Then we only saw the waiter sporadically. He took our drink and food order then we didn't see him until the middle of the entree. We will return and hopefully the service will be better.

Dinner

By Matt Burls |

We had spent some time on the river prior to dinner (recommend Tiny Tap to drink on the river was great) and so we needed to eat. As we came up from the riverwalk we noticed this place. It is brilliant. The food is amazing. I would not recommend a starter and main as you definitely get your monies worth. The wine was great and so was the food and the general ambiance of the restaurant. Definitely worth a try.

Disappointed

By Katy C |

Stopped here after Chicago Theatre and had planned on having Crab legs after viewing menu online only to find out that they had a special Valentine's menu. Asked if we could still get the crab legs hostess checked and said sure and we were seated. Front of house boss came by to pour water and noticed our glasses were dirty and brought us clean ones and told the server he needs to be sure they are clean. We explained to our server that we were interested in the crab legs and he said he would check to see if available. After awhile he returns to see if we are ready to order and I said we were interested in the crab legs and he said oh that's right he was going to check in the freezer to see if they had any. He would be right back. Well I realize that to expect fresh crab legs in February in Chicago can't be expected but I didn't want to hear they were coming out of the freezer even if they were when we first asked. So changed to Stuffed Shrimp but they came with Red Pepper White cheddar mash. I stated I don't like a lot of red pepper and he said no they are roasted red pepper. I said that I don't like roasted red pepper, his response was everyone likes those, Not Me. Can I just get some cheese on my mash to which he responded, the kitchen is quite busy and I don't know if they can do it. Well of course I had no cheese on my mash. He said the kitchen was too busy to add cheese to my mash. Stuffed Shrimp were bland, good mash without cheese and good Green beans. After having a cocktail I was out of water. Set my glass on the edge of table,he came to refill one and them second table but not mine. Not till he was ready to bring the check. Restaurants we ate at that weekend I researched and expected more of this one. This server didn't give us the experience I was hoping from this restaurant.

Go it’s worth it

By paulbT4706EY |

Went Sunday 23rd without booking. Thankfully it wasn’t busy . I had the salmon stuffed with shrimp and lump crab and my wife had scallops with belly pork on butternut squash risotto both were superb. The waiter Austin was also helpful and knowledgeable A great experience on our second night in Chicago Great food and service at reasonable prices

Mediocre Service and Quality

By Maverijk |

Disappointing experience commencing with complete lack of service only rectified by an approach to the hostess desk. More confusion over drinks order - bottle versus glass - when only a bottle was ordered. Prawns were as to be expected but Alaskan Halibut was tasteless as was the mushroom risotto. Won’t be back and would recommend avoidance if you can

Spectacular Seafood

By Patricia L |

With no reservation we were promptly seated for an early Friday night dinner. Our server, Jeff, could not have been nicer. He was interesting and seemed to really care about the quality of our experience without being formal and obsequious. My husband and I are not huge eaters so we started with the 10 greens salad which came divided nice for the two of us. This salad is so good I will try to replicate it at home. The dressing was light but had nice bacon pieces in it.Our entree which we also split was the ultimate seafood platter. All the seafood was grilled not fried. It was plenty for both of us. I highly recommend McCormick: great location, quality food prepared skillfully, and wonderful service. Also, be sure to check out their happy hour.

By Dave |

You will find this restaurant near the Chicago river, much was expected of this restaurant as we visited many during our week, and this was the worst by some distance, the waiter was friendly but the food quality was terrible, we had the hot plate fish starter for the group, and individual entres, the mash potato was hard and cold. There is much better than here in the city.

Excellent Food, Poor Management

By doug1143 |

We dined here on 6 March at 5pm. The food was excellent. The management was not. My wife ordered the seared tuna off the menu and apparently there was another dish by the same name that the chef paired with different sides for $7 more (total $39). The fish came out with the chef recommended sides instead of the normal sides. My wife politely let them know about the error, told them it wasn’t a big deal, but that she would really like the cucumber salad (one of the two sides she was supposed to receive). They brought it out at the very end of the meal and then brought the upcharged bill for the chef-paired sides she didn’t want or eat plus an additional upcharge for the cucumber salad (which they rang up wrong as sticky rice). I asked for the corrected bill of $32 for the dish and for the sticky rice (i.e. cucumber salad) charge to be removed because it was a part of the meal that should have arrived. The manager decided to reduce the bill by the $7 difference in the two meals, but leave the $3 up charge for the cucumber salad. Really??!! On a $140 bill? Really??!! This manager is penny wise and pound foolish and should have apologized profusely for bringing the wrong meal out and should have corrected the whole thing on the spot. Instead, she chose to quibble over a few dollars. How unprofessional! We will not return.

Fresh seafood

By drjsaleh |

Our late lunch at McCormick was delicious. The restaurant is central very near to Chicago River. We sat outside at the outdoor section. The service was good. The place is clean. The food was tasty. The crab cake and sea green were done very well. A good place to go back to.

Meh, way better options in Chicago

By weyes |

Two hours to get three 3 courses in a restaurant that was barely a quarter full. While our waitress was lovely and pleasant the service was abysmal and the food was pretty average. The halibut was just okay with the sauce and toppings but broccolini was meh. Steak was flavorful. Dessert was average. Nice size booths and decently spaced tables but I think this place is past its prime.

Yum yum yum

By srnflamingo |

The food at McCormick & Schmick's is consistently good no matter what city we are in. Our waiter was especially helpful with helping us find other places to visit.

Great Food Is BACK!

By JAB |

Chicago is back to eating out, as in outside dining. To celebrate I put in a reservation. Hostesses were great! Service was super. Food was fantastic! As a solo I was grateful for not being rushed. I savored the meal at my pace. The lobster bisque had plenty of lobster pieces and was smoothly spiced. The grilled Seabass had a nice sear on it and meted in your mouth. Roasted vegetables in abundance. Cut in a perfect size. Of course cheesecake was a must for dessert. The slice was huge and drizzled with raspberry purée. Reasonably priced and worth the stop!

the all rounder..

No complaints here... Tasty food.. Steaks were cooked to perfection, oysters rockerfella a worthy starter as it should be.. Service with a smile.. definitely try the 20oz ribeye With blue cheese and truffle butter.. You will walk away more than satisfied

Great Happy Hour

Stopped here for Happy Hour wine and nibbles-- great prices on the food selections. Sat by the front window and had a great view down Michigan Ave.

Wonderful anniversary celebration!

By Jewelsworld |

We celebrated our anniversary with a lovely dinner at McCormick and Schmick. Everything was delicious from the salad to our seafood entrees. But the highlight of our celebration was the amazing Chocolate Bag Dessert with white chocolate mousse in a bag made of chocolate topped with whip cream and fresh berries. It came out with a sparkler!!! And lots of exclamations of disbelief from the staff when we told them how long we’d been married. Loved it! What a wonderful way to end a celebratory dinner. We will definitely be back.

Suffering from Staffing Shortage

By ChitownMomma |

I understand that COVID is hitting restaurants hard and it is hard to find good staff. However we stopped in during lunchtime and the service needs improvement. We did not mind the wait for our food, but we had to ask multiple times for coffee and additional water. Also one of the orders was incorrect. The waiter offered to make another, but we did not want to wait an additional 30 mins for the corrected order. If I am looking for a downtown lunch location, I would skip this restaurant for now, and let them get their act together.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere... if we get back to Chicago we’ll definitely make a point of coming back. Thank you for the great dinner.

Happy hour visit after show.

Very good restaurant to visit in Chicago. We stopped in after a show and really enjoyed the happy hour specials they offered. Drinks were also good. We will definitely go back again.

Fantastic meal for Restaurant week

By FunFamily04 |

Fantastic food, loved the ambiance. We were seated in one of the "tucked away" booths. Service was slow and the hostess kept apologizing for the slow service, telling us the waiter was slammed the kitchen was slammed etc. It was a Sunday night and the restaurant didn't appear to be that busy! We kept telling her it was fine, we were in no hurry. The bread they give you with the meal definitely helps with slow service and it was delicious! We had the lobster bisque for appetizer, filet and lobster for entree and cheesecake and silk pie for dessert! Everything was wonderful! Pricey, but that is what you pay for great food and great ambiance in a great city!

Once a great place is really showing the stress of a smaller workforce

By Ron |

We've dined here before and usually its been hard to get a table. We got one at the last minute and had a nice drink at the bar, the bar tender was good. nice seated, we felt like we were on a desert isle and there were only a few tables occupied in the restaurant. Our server was a nice guy, don't get me wrong, but he had very little time for us. It was hard to get a drink, it was hard to get his attention however once the food arrived it was great. I watched several people arrive after us and they too had the same issues. The place is great but the service sorely lacking.

Great food - recommended

By laurencemoss |

Great food and a fab waiter. Nothing I can write to say was bad. By some standards not expensive but it’s not budget eating. Lovely inside - well worth a visit.

Ok-pricey for what you get

By Hart |

Saturday night- we had reservations but the place only maybe 5-7 tables. Great signature drinks & good wine list. Waiter was good. We sat at a table within a booth & no tablecloth. For $100 pp I expect a bit nicer. The lobster bisque was so good & everyone raved about the oysters rockefeller. Seafood trio was good & samon was great. The potatoes were good & certain meals come with sides. Nice sourdough bread to start with. Steaks were really good & desserts were incredible! Chocolate sack filled with berries & white chocolate mousse so good. Try the upside down apple pie- with cinnamon ice cream!

Excellent food decent price

By Kurt A |

Had the cup of clam chowder, best I've had. Main meal was delicious. Waited for about 10 minutes to be served, however once served the wait staff came by several times to ensure I was satisfied. Love to recommend this restaurant to all seafood lovers.

RACIST WAITER "MONICA"

By lashelly2012 |

My husband and I were there June 11th Tuesday for dinner. The caucasian waitress Monica was very unfriendly. I'm not sure if she thinks black people don't tip or what the problem was with us. She would just come and drop down the basket of bread as if it was hot, turned around so fast to leave, i couldn't ask her where the restroom was. She did not come back once we got our food to ask if we needed anything or was everything ok. I called her to ask for more bread and she looked like she really didn't want to come over. We did notice how she was very friendly with the over two tables of people she was serving. I'm not sure if that's because they were white or not but we definitely saw a difference. She came back to bring our check after laughing and talking to them. Dropped it on the table and said have a nice day. Well, Monica, so that you know, black people do tip. She really needs to find another job not in the publics eye so that she doesn't have to get paid by tips or work where she might have to serve black people. i will never go back here again, well not to this one.

Fantastic meal and service

By Kevin M |

One of our best meals in Chicago. Both steak and seafood dishes were excellent. Our waitress, Monica provided prompt and very friendly service. Great dinner!

Poor service spoilt our meal

By LadyatManor |

I had been looking forward to eating steak during our visit to Chicago. We were in the middle of a fabulous trip to the city, but this meal was a disaster. We received a friendly greeting at the door and were quickly shown to a good table. It was a booth and very comfortable. From this point onwards our evening meal was chaotic. We were kept waiting for around 10-15 minutes before our waiter came to take our order. We asked for water, but none arrived. We also ordered a beer but that did not arrive either. So, as a different waiter passed by we asked again. This waiter looked surprised that we were trying to get a drink and I noticed him shouting at a different server (not our waiter). It was very frustrating. Our food came, but still no drinks. When the drinks did arrive they were wrong, but we accepted them as I could not be bothered to wait any longer. The food was badly presented, almost thrown on to the plate. It did not look appetising as the meat had not been allowed to rest and so I was faced with blood leaking all over the plate. I ate what I could and overall it was just OK. My fellow diners food was fine. Our waiter was terrible, his mind was certainly not on the job and I literally could not wait to leave the restaurant. I imagine that if we had a different server then the experience would have been dramatically different. We were very unlucky and this was the worst experience of our entire trip. Generally you can get great service and food in Chicago, but this restaurant was awful on the evening we visited.

Underwhelming experience

By TravelBug33 |

Overall we had expected better from this highly rated restaurant. The air conditioning was far too cold, a perennial problem with some restaurants in the US. The drinks were nice but one of the food dishes had a poor combination of flavours and it lacked seasoning (not great for a single dish costing $46). Should be a better experience given how expensive this venue was.

Excellent seafood restaurant near the Chicago Theatre

By PamplonaBound |

McCormick and Schmick's is always a terrific place for seafood. We have always received our food promptly with very efficient, friendly service. Most recently, my husband and I had two terrific fish dishes including Chilean sea bass served with udon noodles and vegetables in a delicious miso broth as well as baked salmon served with green beans, carrots, and mashed potatoes. We also split a yummy salad accompanied by candied walnuts and blue cheese crumbles. We had this meal prior to going to a Friday night performance at the Chicago Theatre which is 2 blocks away. We were able to valet park our car at the restaurant and then come back for our vehicle after the show for only $16 (plus tip), thus avoiding all the crowds leaving surrounding parking lots. We will be back!

Rude personnel and terrible food. the manager was angry , rude and belligerent. Food was disgusting.

Rude personal . The bread came 55 minutes late, they forgot a couple of dishes but charged us for . The food was disgusting.

Happy Hour Menu Not So Happy

By ChgoLvr2 |

I thought I'd try the happy hour menu and was disappointed. Zhane, my waiter, was attentive, enthusiastic and very friendly. The service wasn't the problem. The blue cobia tacos were served on flour tortillas, but I was told they are served on corn tortillas. When they arrived, Zhane noticed the mistake and quickly whisked them back to the kitchen. When the tacos finally appeared again they were still on flour tortillas. The truffle fries were nothing special. I might go back and make different food selections and see if it is any better.

Great experience tonight

By Darren W |

My plans in Chicago got changed suddenly and I found myself alone for dinner so I made a reservation at McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood in Chicago - table for one! The staff treated me with enthusiasm and ushered me to a great table. There my waiters were Seven and Kevin. Kevin was a trainee and he would be working with me tonight. Since I was alone and in no hurry and wanting a slow night, it was fine. I ordered a martini and Kevin took me though the menu - I didn’t need it done, but he wanted to do it for training. He was so pleasant and so thorough that I enjoyed it. I settled on the ancho chili seared octopus with white beans and jicama slaw for a starter and then the crab cakes with corn salsa, veggies and orzo. The food was spectacular!!!! The octopus was a taste sensation. I couldn’t decide what I wanted my last taste to be! When I ordered, I asked for a glass of Sav blanc with my entree and ordered another martini before the starter came. When Kevin cleared my plate he noticed that I had not finished my martini and asked if I wanted him to hold back the wine until I had finished. I asked him to bring it but was so charmed that he was noticing what was happening at my table and was sensitive to my needs. The food and drink was wonderful and the service here equal to it. I highly recommend this place and Kevin and Seven - thanks for a wonderful engaging experience. I never felt rushed or hurried and always felt taken care of.

We had just arrived in Boston ! Close to the hotel , very nice place , a bit expensive , the kids loved their Food from the kids menu , we shared a crab salad which was great and ordered a plate of crabs which was a total disappointment , they were split and dry ! Service was a bit slow , the restaurant got very full ,so it seems we made a wrong choice for the entree !!

Just perfect

Exactly what we wanted prior to Symphony. Wine, cocktails and seafood appetizers. Also a wonderful wedge salad. Very good value. Excellent selection. Wanda was our server and she took very good care of us; attentive, knowledgeable and caring about our experience.

Great food, AWFUL service

By 34S_Latitude |

We have been to McCormick & Schmick's in several locations, and have always enjoyed the food. We were happy to find a location in downtown Chicago, as we were in town for business and in need of a good meal. Our plans were to have dinner, but the table wasn't ready, so we ordered a drink at the bar while waiting for the table. I found it somewhat odd that we were brought the bill before the drinks, but paid the tab anyway. Our drinks arrived as we were seated at the table. We weren't provided menus, so after waiting several minutes, we had to ask the host for menus. The restaurant was not busy, perhaps 50% of the tables were occupied, yet we waited some time before the waitress finally arrived. The behavior of the woman that came to take our order was unacceptable. She made no introduction of herself, made no inquiry of whether we had dined at McCormick's before, and gave no explanation of the menu. She was rude and seemed put off that we were in her section (which was nearly empty). While we were still eating, she attempted to take plates before we were finished, not once, but twice. No one asked whether we were pleased with out meal, and she couldn't get us out of the restaurant fast enough. In a service-oriented business, her behavior killed the meal. In defense of the restaurant, the food was decent, but the ambiance she created was miserable.

NOTHING THAT CHANGED MY WORLD! LOW QUALITY CHAIN! ONLY PRICE IS EXCEPTIONAL!

By 111familyman111 |

If business colleague tells you they have the perfect place they are going to take group to fine fining restaurant in Chicago. If they bring you to McCormick & Schmick's Seafood & Steaks they have NO CLUE what fine dining is. Just because they have Fleming/Ruth Chris/Shula's Price Tag does not mean they are any good or chef has a clue. Had dinner meeting set up here by business partner primarily because of the location right on Wacker Dr where we all were staying. All I have to say was DISSAPOINTMENT. From the non existent hostess when we arrived to the server that told us that no food here would "change your world" when I asked her what their "specialty" was. BOY WAS SHE RIGHT!! . EVERTHING simply mediocre, steaks were tad better than Golden Coral but absolutely nothing compared to Shula's or any REAL steak restaurant. Had shrimp and oyster appetizer which was presented nicely(see pic) but shrimp was tasteless farm raised absolutely no flavor that can get at local any grocery store. At $4.50 each, I expected much more.. Maybe even extra even tiny ramekin of cocktail sauce instead of red wiine viniger( in pic) Does this chef have a clue what is going on? Six of us ordered steaks after ordering and tasting very tough low qulaity steak we decide this was not the best choice for our dinner out but, we made the best of it. Location is perfect, apparently that is what you pay for at this chain. Great Location and but poor low quality food. I personally had similar experience in San Fran at Ghirardelli Square chain location in spring, while ambiance is very very nice (overlooking SF Bay), However, quality of food served is very poor for price. When in Chicago I would defiantly look elsewhere for fine dining or quality meal.

Consistent and Good

By William S |

McCormick and Schmick's Is a wonderful place to dine. Located on Wacker Drive above the Chicago River. Parmesan-crusted Sole was outstanding. The fish was delightful. The elegant surroundings featured service people who are proficient. Fish soup, (casserole) was fresh, tasty and abundant. Expensive but worth the fare. Comfort food in a comfortable setting.

Average food

By Erin F |

The service was slow and at times rude as if we were bothering them by asking for a new drink. The food was O.K. With so many options in Chicago, I would not recommend it for dinner - maybe stop for drinks on the river, but again there are several other options with much better food, and kinder staff

Good American

By LommaTraveller |

We had a really great seafood plater as starter, and then I had a good steak. Service was great without any complaints. Could come again.

Poor service average food

By hallwalsh |

Service was shocking. We waited 90mins to have water refilled or to be asked if we wanted more drinks. Appetisers were OK, entrees were poor. Never again - overpriced and under delivered

Enjoyable Dinner

By Rod S |

While visiting the Christmas Market in downtown Chicago we decided to try McCormick & Schmicks. We wanted something kind of decent but since we were bundled for a blustery Chicago December day and we did feel a little judged walking in at 5:30 on a Saturday. We were slightly under dressed, but not to the point of feeling self conscious. Jeans are fine, but I would not advise it with a t-shirt or even just a polo. The service was okay, not great, but we did not have to wait excessively long when we thought we needed something, but for as quiet as it was at the time our server should have been more attentive. Drinks seemed a tad bit high, but it was center city, $11 for a Mojito, but it was very good. I had seared rare Mahi tuna, it was cooked perfectly, full of flavor and just the right size. The sticky rice was good, but the cucumber salad was not impressive. My wife had the beef medallions, medium well, with spinach. She enjoyed both immensely. Total cost, $82 with tax, no appetizer or desert, one drought beer and one mojito. Absolutely would go again.

An Upscale Great Restuarant

McCormick & Schmick is one of the many Landry owned restaurants. We had previously eaten in McCormick & Schmick in downtown Los Angeles which has since closed. We had enjoyed going there and now visiting Chicago we decided to try this one in Chicago. I am glad we did. The food was outstanding, ambiance top rate, quiet (which many restaurants are not) and service excellent. There is both regular table and booth seating.

Nice bar area and great Happy Hour

By L Marie J |

Great location on opposite side of the river close to Michigan Avenue. This restaurant is big and has no personality but the bar area next to the windows are nice, more intimate and has a good view of the street. The bar area also has a great and valuable Happy Hour menu. We had a great meal and drinks served by a nice waiter.

The Warning Flags were all There

By MGoBlueBoy |

This was a very disappointing visit. Not your usual M&S experience (if you have been to others). I arrived a few minutes early and was seated quickly, so that was nice. Only 6 other tables in the whole place were occupied. Not sure if that was a warning or just due to the time/day/moon-phase. Warning Flag #1. I was quickly greeted by the server who asked for a drink order. He was asked if the Manhattan or Old Fashioned was better and his response was that he did not drink so he had no idea. Being in the business, I know all too well that alcohol is a main profit center for F&B locations. Warning Flag #2. Decided to go with the Manhattan, and received an Old Fashioned after a few minutes. It was good so no complaints. The server had presented an oyster sheet and he was asked which ones were the freshest (it was a Saturday night). He said they all were pretty fresh. Oops. Warning Flag #3. The ahi tuna tartare was ordered as an app and the bone-in-filet was asked about and told that it was good (usually order it at Ruths) so did that and a small mash on the side. That went well. The waiter brought out the cart with the build-a-tartare on it and proceeded to attempt to make it. He clearly stated up front that it was his first day and he had never made one before. After watching the mixing and the fact that he left at least a half full spoonful of tuna on his cart (maybe he wanted to try it, or just didn't notice), the guest agreed that it was his first day. The taste was good for what was received, but halfway through the waiter brought out condiments and silverware for the appetizer and said "oops, the manager just told me about this". Warning Flag #4 A bit later, the "bone-in filet" appeared. It was ordered medium rare, and delivered scorched on the outside and was maybe, to be generous, about the size a quarter thick. NEVER had a bone-in filet that was anything but a ball of meat or thick enough to be cooked properly inside. If this was really a filet minon then the meat purveyor needs to be canned. The worst filet I ever had was at Uncle Tim's one summer off the grill. This was second worst. Edible but chewy and tasted like burn marks. The side of mash helped but not much. Warning Flag #5. By this point, there was no saving the experience. No coffee or dessert was accepted after being offered. Plus marks on trying to get those last few bucks. All in all... a very very disappointing experience by a regular business account traveler at a supposed quality establishment. :( Will have to debate doing another M&S elsewhere after this.

Fabulous

Fabulous dinner here tonight, ahi tuna appetizer was to die for. Great service from Emily our server, would definitely recommend

Great Christmas Eve meal

By morgainegeiser |

We go here every year usually on Christmas, this year we went on Christmas Eve. The last two years were a little disappointing. This year however the service was excellent, our waiter made great recommendations but did not push items on us we did not want. He was very helpful with recommendations for a person that can't have shellfish and was looking for a meal with fish. I had an excellent grilled salmon. We had a couple of the seasonal drinks and they were fun. Glad we gave it another try.

Perfection!

By Marie S |

We had a wonderful experience from start to finish! The drinks and appetizers are fantastic. The food is delicious and the portions are generous. I had the Pan Seared Sea Bass over a bed of Crab Fried Rice. Every bite was perfect. The staff was attentive and professional.

Best steakhouse in Chicago for the price

By FlavaFinda603 |

Very nice steakhouse for the price. Got the center cut ribeye with a blue cheese crust and it was cooked perfectly. Roasted potatoes and vegetables on the side were also well done. You will not find a better steak in Chicago for the price. Restaurant had a great vibe and was very clean. Staff was quick, great service, and very friendly. Will definitely go back.

Hidden gem between 2 buildings

We went to this restaurant on a Saturday evening after making reservations on OpenTable. Walked right in, was not busy at all. Reasonable prices for good quality food. I had the broiled seafood platter. The crabcake was pure lump crab. The mashed potatoes were so creamy. Hubby had the pork chop and loved it. Staff was a little slow to refill glasses but other wise was a great experience.

Good steak restaurant

By Jimvin |

Visited this bar and restaurant as it was conveniently located near to my hotel. I had two beers and a steak, and both were very good. Asked for the steak to be rare, and it was close but not as rare as it could be, but you get these slight differences in opinion between countries. It was slightly heavy on the butter for my liking and my waistline! Tasty though. Would eat here again.

Buy new outdoor furnitures, please! You have great locations;)

By Cecilia H |

It’s prime location, the restaurant looks great, the staff is very professional and service minded.. so why don’t the owners pay attention to the outside facilities? The furniture is old, cheap and broken! Even the staff feels embarrassed about the facilities! Buy some new beautiful outdoor furniture, some nice pillows and add some big plants or trees making it inviting for guests to enjoy drinks and food with one of the best views in Chicago 🤩

Fantastic

It’s a miss

By dutchtravlr |

Was seated immediately outside like we asked. The waiter was prompt to take our happy hour order but it took an eternity to get our food. We had to get up and ask for silverware. He never returned as we were also wanting to order off off the main menu. We then had to hail him down again. The food was ok, but we will not return.

Best service, food and drinks!

By Anne Marie M |

The best service from Jonathan, so attentive. He is a gem. Entire staff pitches in to help each other, total pros. Happy hour is amazing , big menu, high quality food, burger and chicken app my favorites. And the drinks wow, five stars!

You Can Take a Nap Waiting

By Creg S |

I will start this review by saying that my wife and I went to this restaurant early in the evening when there were very few customers in the restaurant. We were seated and told that a waiter would be with us soon. We sat for a short while until our waiter came to our booth. We ordered our drinks and it took a fair amount of time for us to receive them. After placing our order it once again took an extended time for us to see our meals and I have to say they were not cold. As we ate, we had to flag down other waiters to give us refills on drinks. Once we were finished we sat for a long time until someone came by and remove dirty dishes. We sat waiting for our waiter to bring a dessert menu, however as we sat we saw other waiters running around the restaurant but ours was not to be found. Our long wait ended up causing us to run out of time, therefore we decided not to get dessert, however we still sat and waited for someone to bring us our check. We finally flagged down a manager who realized that we had been sitting for so long and quickly brought us a dessert menu to which we said no we wanted to leave right away. She apologized and said that our waiter had been tied up with other tables. When the manager brought us our check she apologized once again and she did take some money off of our check. I’m giving this review at two instead of a one because my wife said she enjoyed her meal. Mine was really nothing to write home about. If you want exceptional service and a great meal go to Weber Grill, not this place.

Super slow serving

17sep2018 Dinner Group of 11 Super super slow serving Lack of staff and hospitality Most foods are too salty and not as tasty as expected STRONGLY NOT RECOMMENDED!

Beautiful venue and excellent food

By jcc98199 |

I have been to other MxCormick locations so the food quality and selection is what I expected. The price is appropriate for the food and experience. The dinning room is gorgeous - check out the glass lamps.

Disappointing!

By Alvin and Lynne... P |

Quality of the meal was very disappointing!! The service was very poor. Also, there was no visible management. No one even asked how our meal was!!!!

Adequate with a few exceptions.

By hbear4593 |

Obviously going to chain you run the risk of mediocre and that is the case. The old seafood platter was ok. The scallops and oysters were great but the ceviche had to much sauce. The chilled lobster was soggy and tough coming out of the shell. The fish and chips were ok at best. The filet and stuffed shrimp. The filet was nicely done and the shrimp were flavorful. Overall just adequate. A bright note. The server Sarah was excellent and attentive.

Its great to have a server who can direct you to the selections that will make you happy. Roberto asked about what kind of dinner we were looking for an created an order for us that was excellent.

Great Meal, Great Service, Great Atmosphere

By Gregory G |

I previously wrote about another chain restaurant (S&W) across the bridge on the north side of the Chicago river from where McCormick & Schmick's is located. McCormick & Schmick's was a totally different experience. The title of my review sums it up. Where S&W's food was mediocre at best, McCormick & Schmick's Jumbo Shrimp cocktail, Lump blue crab cake, Blackened whitefish and clam chowder were all excellent and fresh with no fishy telltale aromas. Anna, our waitress was attentive and friendly with great recommendations and made sure we were completely satisfied with our food and service, unlike S&W, who never asked if we were satisfied or even were present to refill our coffee cups. We had homemade upside down apple pie for dessert at McCormick & Schmick's with cinnamon ice cream and that was excellent too. What was even more amazing is that the manager checked with us after our meal to make sure everything had been good and that we were happy. That did not happen at the place across the river. If you are trying to decide which restaurant to go to, I highly recommend McCormick & Schmick.

Great seafood

Ordered Lobsters and mash potatos. Wow the lobsters were really good. The portions were big too. The service was good and the waiter who was there on a Sunday afternoon was really good.

Great fish

We love eating at McCormick and Schmicks when we are in Chicago. The service is always outstanding. The salmon is a favorite along with the blackened white fish.

Fun, active, delicious

By MemoryofMoose |

An active, private outdoor party was happening the night we went there. Indoors was very pleasant; sat at the bar and ordered special-priced, happy-hour appetizers and drinks. All were GREAT. (All male bartenders had the same haircut--part of the uniform?!) Impressed by this place...would go again.

Pricey, but tasty!

By momof2illinois |

Were looking for a place to eat with our 2 teenagers. Our original plan didn't work out so we didn't have a reservation. Still, we got there around 6:30 pm and the place was empty. However, the hostess would not give us a table because we didn't have a reservation. Argh. We did find an open table in the bar where they "allowed" us to sit. We did enjoy the meal. The service was very good and so was the food. When we left there were still open tables in the restaurant. Food and service is great, but the prices are high and the hostess needs to get a clue.

Mixed experience

By RacingSnake_uk |

Service was great, and prompt. I had the prawns for starters and found them overdone and tasteless, which was disappointing. I then had the Fillet steak for main, and I must say, this was superb. A mile away from the starter, and quite possibly one of the nicest steaks I've had.

wonderful meal

Love the location and the food. We has the seafood grill and they were willing to sub the salmon with whitefish. Wonderful service.
