Great food, excellent waiter, poor greeter/seater

By MelindainTx |

Steaks, awesome! Our waiter was awesome! Unfortunately the young lady at the front kept this from being a 5 star experience. I called to see if we needed reservations, she said they were full and had no reservations left at all. I decided to look online, and was able to make a reservation quite easily. Then when we arrived we asked for a booth. Shebtook us to the corner. I asked if we could be seated at a window booth, she said they didnt have any left. I told her i dont like ti sit in corners. She said we could walk and see and i noticed a few empty booths. Thats poor service if you ask me. Thank goodness the food and waiter was great! This was Christmas day.

Great fish and chips.

By whippetguy |

Visited here after a Texans game and was very pleased. Very friendly greeting and good service from the wait staff. I had the lobster bisque (excellent) and fish and chips. I was very happy with both. The fish and chips is very large portion for one person. My dining partner had a steak and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd recommend dining here if in the area.

Had to go 2 nights in a row!

By Rosanne T |

The food and service were amazing. I went one night and had halibut. It was prepared perfectly. Wine selection is also great. Things were so great that I decided to give it another try the very next night. The Palm Beach Mahi Mahi was even better than the halibut I had the night before! I would recommend this dish - kudos to the Chef!

Best Happy Hour menu in area

Best Happy Hour menu in area - Five dollar burger all week or dollar jumbo shrimp or oysters on Wednesday.

Great food - great service

By Amy F |

We were four middle aged women out on the town after an exhausting day at the quilt show. Sonia at McCormick and Schmick's made us feel so welcome. Some had seafood, others salad. It was delicious and a great opportunity for chat. I have been to one other McCormick and Schmick's (in Irvine, CA) and was hoping this experience would be as good. Our dinner in Houston was BETTER. I am so glad that I find I can rely on this restaurant.

Where is everyone?

By Bruce R |

This was a family dinner on late Sunday afternoon after seeing a show at the Alley Theater. The restaurant was absolutely empty, which makes you start second-guessing your choice of restaurant. A sign at the entrance listed the specials, including steak and crab legs. I asked our attendant about the specials and she was unaware of any specials. Service was poor to average, but the food was very good. Maybe there is a better time of the week go here, when service is better and there are enough other patrons to make a more social ambience.

Average food with ok service

By Faulkner8251 |

We came for a group dinner and everyone was underwhelmed. The soups were cold and the entrees came out at different times which made for a poor dining experience. Also, we had a set reservation but when we arrived, we had to wait 15 min for a table to be prepared even though they weren't very busy.

Great seafood

By targa792017 |

They are one of the top steak & seafood operations in Houston. Perfect oysters, grilled fresh fish as well as shrimp done properly.

Tasty lobster Bisque

By NFC |

Went for lunch they have a tasty lobster Bisque and a grilled chicken sandwich, both went down well, the place seemed to fill up quickly. The place is good (but not outstanding) can’t quite put my finger on why not perhaps the location, Wouldn’t rush back but would go if in the area

what a steak !!

By Sherry R |

This was our first time here & it was amazing the steak was cooked to perfection & the lobster tail was delicious ! the cocktails were wonderful very friendly wait staff & very nice atmosphere !

They Passed The Test

By Robert O |

We called for reservation for eight and ended up with twelve. I never once saw the staff roll their eyes or not make every effort to serve us in the best manner possible. The food was great. I would rate this restaurant as and upscale eatery. I was happy to enjoy everyday courtesy and attentive service.

nice lunch

By Nezman2018 |

Had a very enjoyable lunch with customers, got in and out relatively quick Food was excellent. Staff was very courteous and polite

Nice Atmosphere, So-so food

By Z8364LHrichardt |

Large and nicely laid-out restaurant in downtown Houston. Primarily a steak and seafood menu. Variety of appetizers, I had the tuna tartar, nicely done and presented. Moved on to a combo of steak and king crab legs. Not much steak and the crab legs were not sweet like fresh legs should be. Also overcooked. Good wine menu. Good and attentive service. There are better steak houses in the same area.

Delicious!!!

By JarenH |

The steak and lobster was perfect! The steak was so tender you could actually cut it with a fork! The herb and goat cheese mash were the best mashed potatoes I've ever had and I don't even like goat cheese! Service was top notch... a five star dinner!

Great food, great service, good atmosphere.

By geotrekker2016 |

M&S in downtown Houston has excellent food and service. The waitstaff are very friendly, professional, and helpful. They gave us plenty of time for uninterrupted conversation, but were always watchful and responsive when we needed something. Most of the tables are in a large dining room, but they aren't crowded together. The decor and lighting are pleasant. The noise level was OK for normal conversations at our table in the middle of the room.

Overpriced

By Javiermadrid1961 |

You cannot be waiting 15 minutes for a 70$ champagne. And it does not keep cool. The cooler is cool but not working properly. For champagne you need iced water.... The tuna was a bit too dull and the Mahi Mahi was OK in taste but ridiculous in size.

Amazing experience

By Pioneer313188 |

We went to McCormick this afternoon for a business meeting...let me tell you something ...the experience was very amazing the food was superb ... I will recommend this place to everyone Clayton was on the top of everything and Lashanda was our waitress and she was so sweet and very caring ...this is one of the few places in Houston that i will be going to frequently

The goat cheese mash is to die for, great service, great steak!

By Manda M |

Stayed at the Sam Houston- Curio hotel and was recommended by the shuttle driver to eat here for a good/ non expensive steak dinner. Dined alone, was welcomed and greeted as if I were family. I received compliments on my attire as I walked in (little under dressed in my opinion) and felt so welcomed. Ordered steak, mash and broccoli- ended up taking half of the steak back to my room because it was all so filling and delicious! Even ordered an additional side of the mash & broccoli to accompany the rest of my steak back in my room! would highly recommend and eat there again if ever back in the area!

Simply Amazing

By Tiffany H |

The atmosphere is beautiful! Relaxing for sure. I was a little early for my reservation but they took me right in. My waiter, Wendell, was impeccable! He was just the right amount of "there" when I needed him snd so friendly. The food was wonderful! I had a filet and it was superb. Cooked exactly right with great flavor. The mashed potatoes needed a little salt but paired well with the steaks flavor and green beans. The female at the front, came around to our tables to ask how things were, maybe the manager? Hate I didn't get her name but she was so lovely! Overall, a wonderful experience for my first time in Texas!

Great surprise!

By Felipe B |

Although it wasn't our original option for lunch, we were surprised with the amazing food and service this restaurant offers. I recommend the lobster & beef dish, as well as the cheesecake dessert. The place is pretty well serviced, clean and it offers a wide variety of dishes. I will definitely be back for more amazing food.

Beat Seafood Chain in the US

By FiveDivers |

We go to M&S in almost any city we visit. Locations are all excellent and this one was no exception. Great food, great service and reasonable prices. Love the semi private booths with the curtains. Consistent quality at every location.

Delicious!

By Coo |

Delicious! We really enjoyed our dinner here. The waiter was super friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and fresh and full of flavour. Felt a bit rushed when our main was bought out by another waiter when we were literally just finish our appetizers . But otherwise, a delicious meal.

A great place to go for a great meal that’s low-carb

By WineFoodTravels06 |

Finally I was able to go and easily choose a meal that was low carb without having to make a bunch of substitutions. The special was steak and lobster with broccoli and tomatoes. It was delicious. I did have to send back the bread that they automatically placed on my table but they quickly removed it when I asked.helping me to resist the extra carb calories. Thanks for making my diet easier. The house wine -Blackstone Merlot was also very good for a very reasonable price.

Excellent!

By Torlus |

First off the name on the door and windows is M&S, which for anyone from Europe is confusing. So we struggled to find the place though we walked past M&S several times. Inside is beautiful, tastefully decorated. Service was excellent. Everything on the menu (food, wine, cocktails, dessert) was a few dollars cheaper than Steakhouses in the area. The food was very good and portions were substantial. There are nice add ons to steak and steaks even come with potatoes. The desserts were really fantastic and both the Pineapple Brown Sugar and Upside down Apple were to die for. Will definitely be back. Loved it!

Seafood and steaks

By Jadiaz72 |

This is a place where you can find both seafood and steaks. All of them have a very good quality. Ample seating space, and a large bar.

Ok

By Judy C |

This is an “upscale” steak/seafood restaurant. The restaurant is lively and the service was good. We split the wedge salad between 2 of us and it was plenty. The salad was quite good. The beef medallion bordelaise was bland. I asked for it to be medium and it was medium rare. My husband ordered the New York Strip and liked it but it was cooked to medium and he asked for medium rare. The small batch mashed potatoes weren’t anything we’d order again. We shared a creme brûlée for dessert which was yummy. Overall, I would try this for happy hour but wouldn’t do dinner here again.

Classic surf and turf in downtown Houston

By Yablonski |

Very consistent upscale dining and great waitstaff at the bar. Among the choices in downtown Houston for comparable fare, McCormick & Schmick's always delivers.

Good but nothing spectacular

By FuzzyBeesMom |

McCormick is known for its steaks and seafood, offering a nice atmosphere and good presentation. While the food did not completely meet my high expectations, it was still a decent experience. The restaurant is a good place to visit with coworkers or for a casual meal, even if the food alone might not be the main draw for a return visit.

Very Average

By Winetrash |

Typical chain food. Scallops were over cook. Ahi tuna dish was incredibly average and over priced for what you got

Get the pie

By Sharri B |

I recommend this restaurant for a special meal. Customer service was beyond superb. The appetizer shrimp, potatoes and baked fish were very good and delicious fresh bread. Apple pie with cinnamon ice cream was wonderful. The vegetables were not to my liking, but were replaced with good humor with another, better choice. Get the pie!

Fantastic Happy Hour

By 265CurtA |

Had happy hour every day after the convention, close to convention centre. Half way to hotel, walking distance. Very good appetizers.

Excellent!

By Laurent V |

Excellent meal! Cajun chicken with pasta for me and my wife a Faro salmon risotto. We both enjoyed it! Dessert - chocolate cake with white chocolate mousse - was a killing. To do!

Looking forward to dining there again!

By Anna R |

I was in town for business and staying at a downtown hotel. We looked up restaurants on Open Table and found this restaurant. I prefer seafood over any other dish. I was not disappointed. It ordered the "shrimp trilogy" and my friend ordered the "pecan crusted trout". The meals were beautiful and very, very delicious. Our waited was very attentive and kind. The manager visited us twice to inquire as to how we were doing and the atmosphere was inviting, relaxing and still elegant. I cannot wait to return. Also, I thought the meals were very reasonably priced.

Good options, but book a table during the week

By Haroldo T |

Excellent fish and chips and cold beer. On Sunday was empty, however on Tuesday could not get a seat. Call and book a table if you want to go there during the week.

There are Better Choices

By James S |

Dined last week as a guest with 3 other men. I ordered the Black Angus steak - it was grisly. Would have sent it back but I was someone's guest. Management needs to train the waitstaff. While our waiter was attentive, he had no clue as to basics. He served and picked up from the wrong sides, and maybe that's fine with 4 men, but to place a wine glass and pour wine from the left side of the plate.....Emily Post would roll over in her grave. There are some really fine restaurants in Houston, but this is not one of them. Giving them an average is generous.

Amazing Food

By ntmire |

Amazing food Salmon stuffed with shrimp and crab was to die for also the clam chowder was excellent .we sat at the bar and our server was terrific it was our first time there and overall a great experience .All I have is a picture of half eaten food that I will post. Price was very reasonable for all the food you got.

Old Favorite Shines Again

By Global Fox |

Not visited in a while and have to say everything was spot on. Service perfect prompt but not intrusive. Price value for money given location etc. food everything was excellent. Portions perfect and great to see colorful vegetables not boring green. No faults at all well done.

Excellent seafood.

By Matt S |

Couples night dinner We each had some form or another of their seafood offering - and each dish was excellent. It’s definitely not a fast food type place You would very much fit in wearing a jacket and slacks.....but we did see a few jeans and button down shirts.

Date night

By jacktn13 |

Decided to take wife out to eat after she had a difficult day. So we chose M & S downtown. Our first visit. It was wonderful the food was great. The atmosphere was very up scale and our server, Olivia, was very special and added to a great meal. Besides the food pictured, we also had the Clam Chowder and Lobster Bisque. Again the food was so good we are going to hold our family holiday meal there.

Had much better for cheaper nearby

By St_Matty |

Albeit a nice looking restaurant i found the food average and over priced. For a bill well in excess of $200 I expected a lot better. Service was good although a tad too much at times. First drink I had to send back as it was off, I was told a few people had mentioned that , if that was the case then i wasn't sure why it hadn't been taken off completely and was still being served.

Impeccable Service, Amazing Lunch

By BigD095 |

My wife and I were in town on business, and stopped in for lunch. It was a late lunch hour so the restaurant was not busy. The service and seating were prompt, and we were allowed to chose between a variety of seating preferences. The food came to us in a timely manner and was absolutely delicious! I ordered the seafood grill with a variation that permitted me to add steak medallions. The seafood was very tasty and fresh, and the steak was perfectly done. The crab cake I had was amazing! The shrimp were all cooked to perfection and tasty. My wife had a choice steak cooked to order. The steak came back a little rare, but they quickly apologized and promptly remedied the situation!

Absolutely avoid, until changes are made.

By Melly |

We have been to other M&S in other states, so thought this one would be the same quality experience and food. We were wrong. Seated late for our reservation, it happens. Ordered a dry martini, received a dirty martini in error, it happens. But then waited 45 minutes for a replacement. Asked to just get a glass of wine instead and was told if I ordered a bottle it would be quick, but a glass it would mean my order would be behind everyone in the restaurant. The food came and my prawn meal was so salty it was inedible and I realized it was of no value to tell anyone as I would NOT get food until everyone else was done eating. I had 2 other parties at the table try it, they agreed. Our server was sweet, felt bad at how poorly the experience was. 2 women from our party used the bathroom and came back to report that it was filthy. I think this location is having some struggles. We have NEVER had a poor experience at the Minneapolis one, ever. Been there at least 6 times. Our last dining out on vacation in Houston, was a bummer.

OK

By Lindy T |

We chose to eat here because it is part of the Landry’s group of restaurants. I had a lobster tower at the Aquarium and thought it was fabulous, so I decided to order one at McCormick and Schmick’s. There was definitely a difference in quality. The lobster was tasteless and sometimes chewy. Service was excellent and atmosphere was nice. Will try again in the future, but, definitely will order something different.

Something's off

By V5846GOmikes |

Group of four waited an hour to be served our lunch. Waiter never checked on us or offered a refill once during our wait. The lady with us ordered a chopped salad with fried chicken and couldn't cut the meat. The server never returned to check on things. I ordered swordfish and got sick as soon as I left. Disappointing to put it nicely.

Lovely experience.

By HaydenLdn |

My first time experiencing steak in the US and they did not disappoint. My favourite was the Lobster Bisque! Wow. The service was exemplary and will definitely be back again if ever in Houston.

Really good steak and seafood.

By Alex S |

Had one of the best bone in ribeye steaks I’ve had in a long time. It was cooked to perfection juicy, it was really good.

Worth going downtown

By OkieGirl_3400 |

Great place for a business lunch or dinner. They have a private room for your group or cozy booths to talk quietly. While the prices are a little higher than some places, the food choices and the service make it worth it. Fish and steaks are their specialty. I couldn't decide between crab cakes and stuffed salmon. Our table ordered two crab cakes which were a perfect amount for four ladies. They were rich and delicious. This gave me the option to try the stuffed salmon which I'm so glad I did. Tasty stuffing and tender, perfectly cooked salmon. The mashed potatoes were a little bland but the vegetables were a nice side. My friends ordered salads and lobster bisque soup. They reported the bisque was excellent. Their salads looked very good. The service was great. They treat you very well without being there too much. Can't wait to go back next time I'm in Houston.

Bar Area is Relaxed and Cozy

By 4u2kn0w |

The bar area is comfortable if you don't want to sit in the dining area and has the same menu and an added bonus with the great "Happy Hour Menu" too (M-F). The person dining with me said the American Kobe Style Burger was one of the best burgers that he's had. I had the Blackened Chicken Fettuccini. The Cajun Cream Sauce was superb but the chicken was cooked a little too long and it got a tad dry, but the spices were right and not too overwhelming. The manager approached us to asked about our meal and offered to fix the dry chicken problem but it wasn't really necessary to do so, as it was good even if it was a touch dry. The bartender does pretty much everything so it may be a shorter wait if you sit elsewhere, but it's not slow either way. The bartender was first-rate, very personable and helped make suggestions with the menu so that we made the right decisions based on our preferences, etc. The meal took a little longer than expected to be served, which isn't understandable since the restaurant was mostly empty, but the wait was worth the results. The 6 oz. pour of wine is just a bit stingy for the price but I gather that Landry's standards dictate that the bartender be strict and exact with how many ounces the pour should be. The ladies room needed attention and I told the all the employees gathered around the hostess stand (guess business was slow, so they congregated there?) and someone remedied the problem after my comment. There's a courtyard outside if you wish to go outdoors to dine instead and it looks like they have music (mellow music) out on a small stage. Overall, this McCormick & Schmick's (Indianapolis and Vegas too) is very consistent with their quality of food and standards of personnel and is always a great choice when dining out.

Quality

By Peter R Waller |

Great place for fish order all description. I had en excellent plate of fish and chips in crispy batter with fresh warm bread.... Brilliant hangover food

One of the best restaurants ever!

By Sylvia V |

Tried this restaurant for the first time during Houston's Restaurant Week for lunch. This place is perfection! The service, the food, the decor... everything. Four of us dined there and everyone was most impressed! I had the salmon. It was the best I've ever tasted! I will be back!

Very nice meal

By Fussy foodie |

We had a business dinner here, during a convention week. Though the place was packed, the experience was very good. We allowed for slower service and that’s a must because these people are just running around trying to get everything served. Starters of Shrimp Kisses were amazing, I never had shrimp wrapped in back and fried before. Amazing taste combination 👍👍👍👍 Mains were mostly steaks in my group and mine was a filet with stuffed shrimp and that was amazing. Wine list is extensive of course but a J.Lohr Seven Oaks CabSav was divine, and my guests also gave it the thumbs up. We were glad it didn’t run out on the night. A desert of Creme Brulee had my belt busting, but it was the fluffiest and creamiest CB I had for a long long time. Thanks to all the staff on the night, you guys did a great job for us 👌👌👌👌

Just average

By PVEFlyer |

Close to the Courtyard and a decent brand so I gave it a shot. Experience was meh. Bar staff was inexperienced. Food was average. My experience might be a one off but I won’t be back.

Best birthday

By Deb F |

Seafood is my favourite food. My family took me here for My birthday. What a great night.Evan our waiter was fabulous. The meal was superb. They surprised me with a sweet treat with a candle at the end of the night. Thank you to all

Lovely Easter Brunch

By Canterqueen |

We went to this restaurant prior to the Sunday matinee at Hobby Center. Easy walking distance to Theater District. They had a special Easter Brunch menu which included shrimp and grits, crawfish benedict, huevos rancheros with taco pancake, Sister Schubert's cinnamon and sugar rolls, and much more. My husband had lobster bisque where they brought out a bowl with quite a lit of lobster and poured the bisque over it. Mimosa and Bloody Mary rounded out the selection. The service was excellent

High end restaurant

By Jill L |

Great food, they definately try to get you to add on extras to your meal. It was quite expensive but worth the money.

Fine Dining with some interesting variety

By JamesRay26 |

Tired of eating steak? M&S offers some great alternatives. The Clam Chowder and Gumbo are both recommended, and the Blackened Red Fish was amazing as was the service by Carolina. I look forward to trying more items on the menu.

Valentine's Day Dinner

By elchaco |

We got there a little early for our reservation and they promptly seated us. I noticed they had put out extra tables to accommodate for the Valentine's Day crowd, but luckily we were seated in a booth. Our server was excellent, even though he was very busy he kept on checking in with us and making sure we didn't need anything. My bone-in ribeye was very good and my wife also liked her shrimp plate. The chocolate box dessert at the end was great!

A great experience

By sandyknitwit |

My friend and I had dinner there when we were at the Houston International Quilt Festival. The food was great, but we loved Sonia, our server. She was so personable; of all the meals we had while in Houston, she made this one the stand-out!!!

Wonderful Anniversary Dinner

By CJ S |

Great food (especially the Shrimp Kisses) and wonderful waitstaff. Very convenient to Hotel Alessandra.

Not the best McCormick&Schmick's restaurant but still a good restaurant

By Leapfrogisaac |

I have eaten at various McCormick & Schmick's restaurants on the west coast and east coast. This location was good but not to the standards of the other locations. The staff at the front desk was downright rude. Thought we should leave but decided to stay. Then we waited for a long time to be created by the waiter. We were almost ready to leave and he arrived. From that point forward the service was excellent and the food was good. My scallops were a little over cooked but were very fresh. Good wine list and a nice atmosphere. Would probably return next time in Houston.

Great steak, excellent service.

By Hesselson1 |

We were recommended this restaurant by the staff at the Whitehall. Classy setup. My fillet Mignon was a beautifully cooked and tasty steak - up there with as good as I’ve had. A nice early evening dinner to celebrate the end of two great days in Houston. Enjoyed the Texas beer.

Good Food & Cocktails-Convention Center Area

By Diver-Hiker |

We were a part of 4 on a Saturday night (6:30). Service was just okay. Waiter might have been new. When he brought the bill it was only $48, which was obviously wrong. I had to point it out to him, and when he then brought the actual bill (about $175), he didn't offer a big 'thank you' for pointing it out. I ordered the Scottish Salmon which was a special - prepared deliciously. The other in our party were all delighted with their dishes (2 had the stuff salmon and raved about it). Overall an expensive meal, and while delicious we might look for another place next time in town.

Excellent food and service

By devy69 |

Ate here during a business trip. I had a steak that was cooked exactly as I ordered. The wait staff were very friendly and engaging. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Dinner with the boss

By david p |

Fantastic for impressing and something for everyone. Impressive wine selection to boot. A tad pricey, but you are here to impress...

Very GREAT steak!

By txflygirl |

Our first impression was nice until we had to deal with the hostess. When we made the reservations we were told there was no dress requirements as we were coming from a sporting event. She was a little judgmental and our table wasn't prepared 5 minutes prior to our reservation time- with an EMPTY restaurant! We waited almost 10 minutes for her to set the table and seat other patrons before seating us. Our waitress was GREAT! She was attentive and suggested entree choices for our son who wanted steak & shrimp. The steak was delicious and desert amazing!

Never Fails

By DGXW |

When on a solo business trip I want the following 1- To sit at the bar with some sport on tv; 2- To be able to eat some good food; 3- Good wine by the glass; 4- friendly staff. McCormick and Schmick's provides this in every restaurant in every city.

Lost a step

By jimwkunkel |

Had shrimp scampi and stuffed salmon. Scampi were OK, pasta tough and a little odd tasting. Salmon was good. Veggies were undercooked and bland (green beans) and strange tasting (carrots). Pricy wine was OK. Walnut pie and cinnamon ice cream was fabulous. Total for two, $87 + tip. Service was great. Eat at another of the nearby places and come to M&S for dessert.

Holiday dinner with friends

By RLV2 |

The food was delicious but the service wasn’t great. Waited a long time to order, then brought dessert menu. Waited about 20-30 min at which time we were brought the bill. Not sure if the waiter forgot he brought the dessert menu ???? Once ordered another 20/30 min to get the dessert , waited again for the bill - had to flag down waiter to bring it. It was not crowded, and many vacant tables around us. Then. 2 of the bills were incorrect and took two times back and forth for correcting. Disappointing. However, The atmosphere was festive, just right for the holidays.

Delicious!

By Nicky K |

Visited on our last night in Houston and it was absolutely delicious! Melt in the mouth steak, great menu choices and excellent service (thank you Mike!). Would highly recommend the shrimp kisses and the cocktails

Happy Hour!

By mjbbg572 |

I made it a point to arrive early for an event in the area just so I can go to McCormick's for their Happy Hour. Since I live and work in the Galleria area, I usually go to the Uptown Park location. This was my first time at this Downtown location. I liked this location very much. The layout and seating of the restaurant was pleasant compared to the one in Uptown. Also, the Happy Hour menu is much better too! I was able to order items here that I cannot at the Uptown Park location such as the Crispy Coconut Shrimp and a simple order of Spicy Buffalo Chicken Wings! Real bar food! The service was spot on. And my drinks were good. I will definitely be back for Happy Hour the next time I am in the downtown area.

Even More Fabulous During Restaurant Week

By trollerk |

Restaurant week is a great opportunity to try upscale restaurants at a fraction of the price. Usually there are limited menu's, but we have always found the options to still be very good. This weekend we chose my Mother's 84th birthday for 3 of us to celebrate at McCormick and Schmick's. We ordered off the restaurant week menu, at a flat rate of $45 per plate. We enjoyed an appetizer (I had the corn and crab chowder); an entrée (I had the steak medallions and lobster tail), and dessert (I had Key Lime Pie). All 3 of us had fabulous meals, in a wonderful environment, and the staff could not have been more accommodating. Our server was Michael -- he was professional and enjoyable, and was a great representative of this restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant; especially if you can save a significant portion of your bill during restaurant week. Kevin

Delicious

By Brenda Q |

Had Texas Redfish and it was fantastic. I have never had redfish so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Tender and flaky. Just enough spice so you could still taste the fish. We had the chowder and lobster bisque to start. Felt like we should have been on the west coast. The hot sourdough bread went nicely with the soup. For two people it was $90. A special meal that was wonderfully prepared.

Excellent happy hour!

By JennyAGoGo |

Truly an awesome happy hour! If you're in Houston on business and worried that McCormick and Schmick's will blow your per diem or travel allowance for the day, hit the happy hour. Great food and drink specials that won't have your accounting team in a tither over your expenses.

Enjoyable Dining Experience

By Texas-Tech R |

Visited McCormick & Schmick's multiple times in recent weeks on business travel. Consumed multiple entrees across the visits, which includes fish & chips, sea bass, and salmon. All were very good. A bit surprised a restaurant at this price level did not offer bread or some other pre-dinner option. Service is above average but there are other options in the area that are better. In the end, a very good place to enjoy a nice meal.

Wonderful Dinner

Spur of the moment visit; awesome service, delicious appetizers, entrees and drinks. We enjoyed our dinner !

1st Experience a Great One!

By Shara V |

I visited during restaurant week and this was my first dining experience at M&S. Samira, my waitress, was very attentive and informative . Her service was excellent!

Great for date night

By Joe J |

Not to bad I guess, my boyfriend and I showed up at 20 min before closing on a Saturday night and the service was good and food was good. The chicken Alfredo is really tasty, it actually comes with red and green bell peppers and mushrooms. It was so interesting cuz iv'e never had it that way before! My boyfriend's steak wasn't quite cooked the way he requested but he ate it anyway. Waiter was good

Great meal!

By smitli |

We dined here for lunch. I had the Strawberry Bibb Salad, Chicken Saltimbocca with honey polenta, and hot apple pie ... all for $20 lunch menu for Houston Restaurant Weeks. Delicious food at a special low price ... gotta love it!

Come for the Happy Hour

By Great_Beer_Now |

I don’t get to downtown Houston as much as I should. Living in the west suburbs, the drive is a little too lengthy to justify unless there is a special event or something like that. But on a recent staycation at Alessandra Hotel in downtown, I had the perfect opportunity to visit a restaurant that happened to be right next door to my place of lodging. It’s McCormick and Schmicks Seafood and Steaks, a national chain. I wasn’t aware that McCormick and Schmicks was here, but a quick walk around the block and this restaurant got my attention immediately, not just because it was so close, but also because of the advertisement out front for happy hour. This was enough to convince me and the misses to visit here for drinks and bar food. The inside of McCormick and Schmicks is dark and intimate. Because it was the beginning of happy hour when I arrived- around 3:30pm- almost every guest was either in the bar area or seated on the outdoor patio. I noticed that there were a few dogs on the outside, so a visit to the patio makes a good choice if you feel like brining your dog along for the visit. McCormick and Schmicks doesn’t have a large beer selection like I had hoped, but there were enough good options to keep me happy and the prices were very reasonable. The wife liked her old fashioned and described it as a well- made drink, meeting her standards, which are often tough when it comes to cocktails. Food at McCormick and Schmicks focuses on seafood and steak, but there is much more to offer than just that. The happy hour menu includes some tasty options like cheeseburgers, wings, coconut shrimp, quesadillas, and other choices for low prices. I like how they list the calories with each food and the quality of what they serve is good. Downtown Houston has many local restaurants, but if you feel like visiting a chain restaurant with a solid reputation nationwide, McCormick and Schmicks is a good choice. It’s pretty close to many attractions and hotels and the food and drink are satisfying.

Try the Shrimp Kisses

By AnkaliRachel |

We visited on a Sunday night so it seemed fairly quiet but nice atmosphere. Service really good. Shrimp Kisses were delicious. Ahi Tuna cooked perfectly- wasabi mash a tad stronger than I expected. The seafood trio was excellent. Salmon delicious. Overall very good. The only thing we did not enjoy was the dessert - which read like a mousse but was very firm in texture and rich in taste.

Amazing Food-

Went there with a group of people for a meeting.. Had the surf & turf (Filet and Lobster) it was ABSOLUTELY amazing ~!!

Great Food and a Superstar Manager

By Joe77062 |

My family went here recently for my wife's birthday. She had read through a Landry's email that they had a 2 pound lobster special, but when we asked about it the staff said it did not exist. Spiro, the manager came over and asked us for more details, which we could not provide. A little later he came back and said that the promotion was at Morton's (another Landry's restaurant down the street). He offered to call to see if he could get a lobster for my wife at Mortons. To our surprise, he did and it made my wife's birthday dinner ... thanks again Spiro!! The lobster was plated and came out at the same time as our other meals, I had the Pecan Crusted Trout which was very good. Our kids enjoyed the Filet and Stuffed Shrimp and the King Claw Szechuan. The lobster and birthday dinner was perfect in every way. This is how a manager of a restaurant should be, best I've have every experienced in a long time. We will be back.

Good Walleye

By Alane J |

The walleye was good but a bit greasy due to too much butter used in prep. The fillet mignon was quite rare. I had ordered medium rare and our server took it back to further cook but it still didn't seem to help much. The brocolinni was hard/under cooked as well. I felt like I was eating raw food. I also felt rushed deciding on my wine choice and was hoping to have a relaxed dining experience. The last straw came when the server brought out a brochure and tried talking us into joining a club to earn points. When I go out to what I feel is a top shelf restaurant I'm not looking to use coupons or a point system. It was just an annoyance as she laid it all out at our table and started what felt like a sales pitch. We were trying to wrap up so we could make it to Orchestra Hall on time. Not feeling in much of a hurry to go back. Very different experience from before they were bought out. I'll pick St. Paul Grill next time even if it's across the river!

Very good fish, Excellent Service

By Doug E |

Went here for a business dinner with my boss. The server was great - very attentive and helpful. I have a special diet and he accepted modifications without any issue. I ordered red snapper and it was cooked expertly. Also very much enjoyed the accouterments. I would definitely go back if I'm staying downtown again.

Great Atmosphere, Service and Food

By LamaFood |

We were looking for a light dinner so instead of ordering M&S signature steaks, we opted for a round of appetizers and salads. We were not disappointed. Excellent experience.

Not bad, good location

By DSW_TX |

Food was pretty good, nothing over-the-top. Atmosphere is nice and not too loud for earlier dinner, with booths at sides and back great for smaller groups. Our waiter was good, though at times felt as though he did not know what to do with timing and such. Just note if you are offered a membership as a Landry's member, there is a charge added to your bill that we were not told of when we inquired! Otherwise good location and ambience was as expected compared to their other locations we have been to before.

A tasty treat with some oddly awkward moments

By piercesmom |

I took myself out for a pricey dinner on a Sunday evening in Houston. That hadn't been my original intent but in looking for somewhere safe to go within walking distance from the Hyatt Regency, I had decided on the Green Street area. A patron sitting alone in the outside corral of wrought iron tables penned by planters was sipping on a cool glass of white wine and was served something that looked delicious so I decided to treat myself. The inside was decidedly more formal with dark wood paneling and some ostentatious decor. In walking along the side of the restaurant I had noted a few customers in window alcoves as well as some staff tucked away having an animated conversation. There was raucous laughter coming from a hidden room off to the right as I entered but there were otherwise very few customers. I was dressed in business casual so didn't feel out of place yet there seemed to be some sizing up by the wait staff as I entered and requested a seat. This awkwardness continued as I was asked if I wanted a booth or a table in the empty center of the restaurant. I chose a booth and then was walked a few steps in before the server demanded to know if I was going to order a cocktail. It felt like I wasn't going to be seated in a booth if I said I wasn't having a cocktail and by then I was a bit flustered and agreed that I would. Much later the server explained that she was just asking so she could know whether to leave the cocktail menu but by that time I had ordered a prosecco sangria which was too sweet to be truly enjoyable with my meal. The server and I also did a little claustrophobic dance with the napkin when we got to the table which meant that I ended up seated facing the serving area rather than the restaurant. I should have just got up and changed seats but by that time I was quite off kilter. Mercifully, after that the evening began to smooth out. The cup of lobster bisque was pleasant with a bit of smoke to it and small chunks of lobster. The lump crab tower however was a sensuous treat. it had a silky avocado foundation and a bright, flavourful dice of mango, sited between yellow and creamy green pools of sauce ribboned with tamarind. Still hungry, I asked for advice on dessert and was told hands down the bread pudding was the best thing on the menu. The description mentioned the pudding contained "white chocolate", something I consider an oxymoron and code for white sugar but the server had lovingly spoken about toasted walnuts so I was game to try. It was astoundingly good with the walnuts cutting the sweet and the texture dense and satisfying. On the way out the blonde hostess seemed cool and dismissive in a way that puzzled me. Overall I enjoyed my meal but I would have been happier without the awkwardness that accompanied it.

Excellent Food - Again!!

By MaltaBound |

We are here on Memorial Day and we're proud that the restaurant was honoring veterans and active duty military. The food though...it was exceptional! The calamari was cooked to perfection and satisfied the three of us as a shared appetizer. The wedge salad was enough for two to share since we had an appetizer. My wife had the fish and chips - lots of fish! I had the parmesan crusted chicken. It came with two large pieces of thinly sautéed chicken. I was FULL! The manager went table to table asking out the food and if all was Ok. Everything was end we will return. Thanks McCormick's for honoring vets...and for a fantastic dining experience!

Don't Buy Mediocre Seafood and Service in Houston when You Have So Many Better Choices

By garfield22 |

I have been a patron of this restaurant in my neighborhood for almost 15 years. I haven't been for about 12 months and I am amazed at bad things have gotten. Houston is full of great restaurants! Why settle for a chain restaurant that sells mediocre, overcooked seafood. I get it. It's convenient. The decor is nice. But really, why put up with the bad food and the bad service. Do yourself and your family a favor and choose somewhere else. You will be much happier

Why I no longer eat at McCormick & Schmick's Seafood & Steaks.

By Ronald S |

On February 11, 2023, I ate at McCormick Schmick’s Seafood and Steaks Downtown Houston location. I told waiter exactly the dish I wanted, with mashed potatoes substituted for steamed spinach and I added that I wanted water with no ice and he brought me water with ice anyway--and he gave me a sinister stare after removing the ice water from my table and while he poured the water back into the pitcher right there in front of us. I then called the manager over to our table and told him that my Valentine’s dinner date and I were uncomfortable with the waiter and asked for a different waiter or to be switched to a table outside his service area. The manager said he would handle the matter and talk to the bad waiter. That very same waiters returned to our table numerous times afterwards, as if to taunt us. He even delivered our meals to us (with mashed the potatoes I stated I did not want). That waiter caused me to have a FAILED Valentine’s date and left both me and my Valentine’s dinner date in shock! A member from upper management offered reimbursement for what I spent. Nope! I was told that the horrible waiter was fired a couple days later--and I was told that the manager on duty at the time of the incident was reprimanded for his mishandling situation. I’m no longer taking any of my dates or any more of my family members to any McCormick and Schmick’s restaurants ever again. I was so scarred by this fiasco that I will not be patronizing any of the Landry’s family of restaurants

Very nice dinner with great service

By Tim J |

The shrimp kisses and the scallops were perfectly prepared. Attentive waitstaff and pleasant surroundings. Definitely will return.

worst McCormick and Schmicks I've ever encountered

By divenuts |

i've probably eaten at half a dozen of these restaurants around the country and its usually a safe bet. this location was without doubt the worst one I've ever encountered. the waiter was almost impossible to understand, he started mumbling by the middle of every sentence. the food was poor, dishes I've had before and enjoyed were not the same at this location. even the oysters weren't cleaned properly, had to pull weed etc off of the shells before i felt comfortable putting them near my mouth. poor service and poor food. you need to send the manager from your Chicago location down to Houston to sort this location out !!!

Great as always

By chriskE3183UR |

3 of us for lunch and all loved our order. I had the stuffed shrimp and it was wonderful.Highly recommend it. Another guy had the lobster cobb salad and it looked good and for those salad eaters I am sure it was as good as it looked. The Cajun grilled snapper had to be the winner. It was served hot and smelled great. I will have to try it next time. The service was as good as always.

Wonderful!!!

By kqhgo |

This place was great...the staff was awesome, wonderful ambiance and the food was amazing. The steaks brought to our table were excellent. We ordered the chocolate bag which was spectacular to look at it even better for tasting. Shared with three and was plenty. Very refreshing and a must as an after dinner treat!!!

See Food & Eat It

By muee |

One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Under the understated guidance of my wonderful server Evan. King crab with side salad ( don’t know what it was but it had bacon & olives. in it? Truly satisfied!

Pretty Good...Not Excellent

By BackPackGuy007 |

I'll admit my expectations for steak joints is pretty high. M&S turned out to be just an ok experience. Don't get me wrong. The staff was great but this was just an ordinary experience. Good but not great. The steak was done correctly but just not a stand out steak, which one tends to expect at a place like this. One stand out was the Apple Pie which is pretty much to die for.

Salmon

By Tom |

Manger Toni was great and made sure we had everything we needed. very friendly and personable. Jameson Irish Whiskey Salmon was 10 out of 10

Pretty decent!

By Freebird29 |

Food was decent and service was very good. I had a filet mignon that came out a touch too rare but was very flavorful. They also accommodated my request for spinach with garlic which was not on the menu. Atmosphere is nice - not a loud environment, even in the bar area. It was easy to have a conversation - no music blasting. Would definitely visit again!

Great steak and lobster bisque, bland side dishes

By gnordt |

The lobster bisque was excellent, and I am picky about lobster bisque. My son had a filet mignon and I had a ribeye center cut, and both steaks were excellent. The side orders were another story. The mashed potatoes were as bland as it gets. The pancetta (bacon) potatoes and brusslesprouts combo dish was especially disappointing.

Good Food, Atmosphere, Nice Walk from Marriott

By amethyst1875 |

We all had seafood - with risotto or salad. The food was all really good. The atmosphere was nice. Short walk from the Marriott on a warm night. The order taker was super chatty and friendly. The one who brought the food was confused. Order taker came back for a drink order, but that never came. We got the check and had a nice walk back.

No wonder it was empty on a Saturday night

By Sam K |

Appetizers served after the entrees. Used plates not picked up for a long time. Food was mediocre. Not worth what you are paying for

2 nights in a row!

By Wallacescottb |

My wife and I were in town and wanted a local steak and we were directed by our hotel to McCormick & Schmick's. We both decided to try the filet. It was fantastic. Both our steaks came out cooked to perfection. I can't stand when a fine steak is ruined by being overcooked. It was so good that when dinner time rolled around the next night we hightailed it back over there again & we were thrilled to find out the first night wasn't a fluke. The food once again was fantastic and I even tried the cheesecake and it was outstanding. I can't really comment on the interior or the dress code inside because we sat outside, but we were dressed casually and had no problems. The service was also excellent. They were always around when you needed service without being in your way.

Delicious Food!

By mrsc3williams |

We had a great experience dining here with a group of 10! Our waitress was very helpful and the food was great! Good size portions and reasonable prices for a good steak and fresh seafood. I highly recommend the twin lobster tails with lobster bisque mashed potatoes!! Someone in our group had the Oysters Rockefeller and they said it was some of the best they have ever had. My only complaint is that the lunch menu is separate from the dinner menu and you cannot have a lunch item for dinner. I was dying to try the salmon pesto

Great food and service.

By Patrick S |

i am a seafood fan and loved this place. both the Quality of the food and the presentation was awesome. maybe the best Crab cake ever! also the server Gordon was very friendly. On sunday evening 630 Pm very quiet. thats not because of the Quality.

Great Food & Service Difficult Auto Access

By WILLIS M |

Business lunch with choices. I had parmesan crusted fish, salad, and well-cooked vegetables.Wait staff were professional and attentive. Only negative was parking. In the middle of downtown, one needs to be dropped off or walk a ways. The actual address is a multistory building without its own parking area. Once inside it's fine

Nice place but just average Service in busy downtown Houston !!

By Amazon5 |

Stopped in on a weekend with my wife as we were on a house hunting trip. We were seated quick as the dining room was half full. I had the Maine Lobster Bisque a very good starter. My Blackened Chicken Fettuccini was a perfect selection. My wife had a lovely Parmesan Crusted Chicken. Had a nice draft beer and a glass of water with lemon. Overall it was much like many other M&S chains I have been to. The service was not real bad but not great either. Not one of the better M&S we have been to.

Date Night

By Chester J |

Very convenient for Omni Hotel guest but prices are to High for the quality of the food. Service was okay but average. Just not enough value for the money.

Date Evening!

By OakvilleLover |

What a wonderful place to have a quiet, date evening! Food was excellent and service was awesome! Place is very welcoming!!

Yum yum yum

By Vicki I |

We seated inside, Ryan was pleasant and spoke in detail about the menu. Our 1st meal in Houston after arriving from New Zealand. Burger was big, entre size salad was almost too big as a main. Enjoyed both meals.

Not the best McCormick and Schmick's

By John M |

My wife and I have had better experiences at other McCormick and Schmick's locations. Overall, the service was good, but it was because other members of the staff backed up our primary waitress. Her service was not very attentive. The food was good but nothing special, and not a good value for the price. The highlight of the meal was dessert. The Chocolate Bag is an excellent item and plenty to share.

very relaxing outdoor space

By Z3386OZdanielc |

very relaxing outdoor space, quiet, well attended, friendly staff. We were able to enjoy a very nice outdoor dinner tonight. We weren't overly hungry so we decided to try various appetizers. Great selection on both the happy hour menu and the full menu we had from each. We had lettuce wraps, fish tacos, shrimp kisses and crab cakes. All were very good. The wait staff outside was very pleasant and attentive. Thank You.

Town and country location

By irene c |

This is the first restaurant I have ever walked out of, went to lunch on Sunday the 3rd July, restaurant was half empty, dark and there was absolutely NO service, we sat down and waited for at least resistance 10 mts for a server to come and take our orders and when that did not happen we walked out and went across the street to Brio where the food and service was excellent

Last meal of my business trip with 4 other colleagues

By Angela F |

We sat outside on a beautiful Houston evening. Had appetizers, meal, desserts, and drinks. I had seafood. My appetizer was shrimp cocktail and tuna poke. Both fresh and delicious. My waitress recommended the stuffed salmon. I am so glad I got it. It was scrumptious!! Great atmosphere. Our waitress was awesome. Prices were good because we came during happy hour.

Consolidated dinner experience

By Enrico A |

For a solo dinner I have chosen a place that usually never let you down and I'm happy to confirm that also this time I went back to my hotel with no regrets. I warmed up my evening with a Clam Chowder soup which was very delicious and continued with a very nice "New York Strip" juicy and tender. A glass of very good red wine (Malbec) paired very well with my menu choise and a final expresso closed my evening. Service was excellent. A fine evening that has once again confirmed my expectations. Well done guys.

Classy Place!

By Big_Jeff_Leo |

Lovely Surroundings and excellent Service. This is an excellent restaurant. Although it is mainly a Seafood restaurant, the menu is very expensive and you can eat steak or pasta or chicken etc. This is not a large chain, they tend to concentrate on the quality. Could not fault it whatsoever. It was very busy which again is a good sign as the cliental comes back.

Good food with a great decor

By 1146finbarm |

The décor is high quality. The staff are very professional and welcoming. The service is prompt. The menu is varied. Portion sizes are very good. Food quality is excellent. I recently visited on the weekend for my sister's birthday. We didn't make a reservation but got there about six pm and got seated immediately. I've visited on a number of occasions and I believe I've always had seafood. My experiences have always been very good and it continued on this day. Happy to recommend for a nice evening with your loved one, good friends or family.

No longer an upscale restaurant

By Tori S |

This restaurant pretends to be an upscale eatery. I treated clients to lunch and we had a horrible experience. There were over six servers with three tables and we still didn’t receive water or drinks until seventeen minutes later. Our orders were incorrect and cold. The manager and staff didn’t seem very concerned. It was incredibly awkward because our server didn’t realize it wasn’t our order but most likely another patron. I would not recommend.

Diner

By Talal H |

The sea food is fresh and delicious amazing coconut shrimps and the calamari , very tasty soup and the desert is even great. Usually i don't keep space for desert when the food is amazing, however at McCormik and Shmicks it is a most to try the deserts after your meal so you can easily say you have experienced McCormik and Shmicks. It is indeed a place to re-visit when in Houston next time

Good food, great prices

By Angela Turner |

Good food and great prices for where it was located. Good variety on the menu. Something for everyone. Crab cake appitizers was good. Fresh crab. Wedge very big. Can share it. Clam chowder soup was off. Different type of seasoning in it. They have great desserts. Chocolate cake very rich.

Great Service Great Food

By Kerry Ann D |

Had dinner here with a group of coworkers and the service was great. The food was delicious and the perfect portion!

Great venue for a late business lunch

By IanRyan417 |

Six of us met for lunch meeting—great idea. The fresh seafood menu provided optione for all ages & dietary requirements. I love their Salmon & Shrimp—steaks were great, too, in our party. We sat for about 90 minutes for a late lunch, which included coffee drinks after. Amazing & attentive service in a very busy part of town in the middle of the day. Our team will always return to this M&S!

Stay away!

By Oslo-TJ |

Service is horrific, just read the other reviews here - they are accurate. Food would be ok if the price was cut in half...maybe. but the main thing is the real real bad service. You sit around and wait forever and when they finaly have time they dont really focus on you. It is almost funny, but only allmost. Just go anywhere else, there are lots of better choises closeby.

Very good food as with most M&S locations

By Doug G |

Enjoyed lunch at the restaurant. Service was very good and the food was excellent. I had the Crab Cake Sandwich and my friends had fish and chips. Everyone enjoyed the lunch.

Downtown indy

By Tom D |

Great seafood and steaks. Indy location in downtown Hilton has great booths to people watch on market and a block from the circle. Modern decor. Great service and staff...especially GM Lindsay. Great fresh fish menu. Sunday brunch cocktail specials with $3 great bloody marys.

Enjoy outside dining

By Mare S |

Friday, Feb. 24, 2017 Celebrated Anniversary Server: Michelle--AWESOME Salad: Highly recommend sharing Walnut mixed green salad if ordering an entree. This salad is DELISH 👍 I ordered the Blackened Redfish with Avocado Pico on top..OMG! So many flavors in each bite. 🌟👍 My hubby ordered the Buttermilk Fried shrimp. Shrimp was small, not hot, just tasteless, more breading than shrimp. Side of Cole slaw had bad flavor, swimming in dressing. TVs outside, no volume, if your interested. Music is piped in. A bit chilly last night. Ladies and Gents might want to bring a light jacket if dining outside.

Great Sunday Evening Meal

By Jomsomet |

The ambience was very quiet on Sunday evening and we like a more lively environment. That said, the food was really good, way above average. Each of chose a different entree - cod and chips (really tasty), golden tilefish (first time and worth the extra few dollars) and the flounder ( one of my favorite fish). Portions were nicely sized without being overwhelming. Service was good - attentive when necessary and unseen when it wasn't. We will go back next time we are in Houston. The Uber ride from the the Hyatt Regency on Louisiana was only $5, and the restaurant is an easy walk from the hotel if you don't mind the heat.

great for sea food

By JLM3080 |

have eaten in here about a dozen times over the years, and its never bad. Service is great, this time the wait was quite long for a table, but the hostess was very apologetic. Table service was excellent, very friendly, and the sea food was 1st class. wine list is good, even by the glass, and the wine prices are reasonable.

Food was great

By Timothy H |

We went here for a lunch with a couple of our salemen. We all enjoyed the very nice environment of the restaurant. The food seemed to have taken a little long to get to us for the amount of people in the restaurant at the time but wasnt get and leave long. The food finally came out and it was amazing the only complaint was the serving size. I left still hungry after a pricey meal. Will go back but will order some extras to go with my meal.

Not Impressed

By KendraTravels |

It's been a while since I've visited this location. I suppose I feel that this place is overrated in general. To me, it's a step above Red Lobster. It's overpriced too. However, they do make great cocktails. The service is average as well. If my friend didn't love this place, I'd probably never go back.

Wasn't the best

By SCheng46855 |

Ate here a few nights ago. We had a reservations and we were promptly seated. It was very busy. Out waitress was nice but distracted due to large number of tables she seemed to be handling. Ordered drinks, they took a very long time to arrive. My wine was too warm and tasted a bit off - I added ice cubes (hate doing that) and moved past it. Our waters weren't refilled very often. Ordered lobster bites for an appetizer which are tasty but heavily breaded and salty. They could get by with much less breading. We each ordered filet and neither was cooked right- both raw in middle. It took a very long time to get our waitress's attention - she did take steak back to be cooked further. When it came back it was smoking hot outside but inside was still not cooked! I gave up at that point. Would give this a pass next time.

Nice Restaurant Downtown

Restaurant is very well located if you are staying downtown near the convention center. Lobster and steak is very good! service is great, prices are ok.

Pure Excellence

By FiveDivers |

Dinner for three last night was incredible. Waiter Chris was absolutely superb and made some excellent recommendations on wine and seafood entrees. Each recommendation was spot on. The food was delicious and the service was excellent to boot. Cant wait til next time.

Good steak

By Vacation30313456326 |

If you are traveling here do not missed this very nice Seafood & Steaks venue. Food is creative and tasty . Love it.

Scrumptious seafood. Delicious desserts.

By ebinde |

We were seated promptly. Service was excellent. I enjoyed a main course of stuffed salmon while my wife had stuffed shrimp. We shared a tasty upside down apple pie for dessert. The restaurant was attractive and not noisy despite a number of patrons.

Excellent food & service

By Susan M |

I recently wrote several reviews on various Landry restaurants in Las Vegas inside the Golden Nugget casino and how we received poor service and that was not what we had expected or are used to. Today I went to two Landry’s restaurants in downtown Houston and received excellent customer service and food just as I had expected! This just further proves that Landry’s needs to revisit the level of service provided at their casinos.

Mediocre

By KendraTravels |

It's been years since I've been to a McCormick and Schmick's. It was below average with its overpriced menu. I had the stuffed mushrooms to start and the crab cake entree. The mushrooms were okay. The crab cake was a disappointment. Lots of crab but too much crab. I never thought I'd say that but a nice crab cake has a good balance of crab and cake. The entree was served with bland broccoli and orzo. The service was also very slow. I literally thought the waitress forgot about me. The highlight was a very good perfect margarita. I won't go back to another M&S.

Vets dinner

By Joe F |

Enjoyed my Veteran’s dinner with family and friends. I had Beef tenderloin and and my wife stuffed Salmon with crab and Brie. Great service and food as always. Well done McCormick and Schmick’s!

A place with serious problems!

By Igor V B |

I stopped going to M&S about 7 years ago when I saw food and napkins on the floor and no waiters were picking it up. The food was also average at that time. Today I was in town and decided to give it another try. Oh, Man! This place continues having issues. I ordered one of the most expensive seafood dishes on the menu, the whole Branzino. I thought it should be difficult to ruin a branzino dish. However they managed to do it!! The fish was TASTELESS! No salt, or pepper or any hint of spices. Just a dip fried poor creature… the restaurant was almost empty but I had a problem to find my waiter to ask for salt and pepper. I had to go to the bar to look for some salt. When the water finally showed up, he almost killed me with the statement that they don’t put salt and pepper on tables because their food is so perfect that people don’t need those. I guess I won’t be going there to dine for another 7 years. !

Good steak house ,

By yaki a |

We visited the place for dinner. Center cut was very good and priced reasonably Salad (wedge) was interesting but the dressing was too much “flavorful “ Service was ok but they didn’t pay much attention to our needs (like refill when needed ) Will retur

very unprofessional

By Unforgettable |

I was at the location in Town and Country and having a delightful dinner until one of the wait staff members goes off on another staff member in front of all the customers. The young black woman goes at the hispanic female for no reason. WE saw the entire incident. I will not be going back and will advise my friends to not go there either. The hispanic female is wonderful and so courteous. To have someone threaten her and belittle her in that manner is very unprofessional. Hope the management team does something about the black woman's behavior. Not a prejudice statement either.

The Best Steak I have tasted!

By LoBommer |

Booked a table via Opentable. When we arrived the hostess asked us if we had a reservation and we told her we did but she didn't check our names and I then received an email from Opentable saying that we were no shows, this situation was however later rectified. We were seated at a nice booth by the window. Our server was Morgan, who was friendly and efficient. We had a G & T and an Elissa IPA both very good. For appetiser we had the Seared Ahi which was excellent. We then had the Walnut Mixed Greens with added Shrimp and I had a Rib-eye centre cut with the Side Street Corn and Truffle Frites. The steak came but it was a Filet, Morgan realised the error and the Manager appeared and said they were onto it, 5 minutes later my steak appeared and it was the best steak I have ever tested, the whole meal was superb (we forgave the faux pas with the steak!). The Side Street Corn was awesome!! The Storypoint Cab Sauv worked perfectly with the steak. The upside down apple pie was as good as you can get. All things considered an excellent meal but not a cheap night out! I would happily return and I unresevedly recommend this restaurant to you.

Classy Seafood Restaurant

downtown Houston

There were very few choices in downtown Houston near our hotel. We picked M&S because at least there were a few people already eating. The atmosphere was nice. The food was good but unmemorable. Our waitress was very sweet but not very available.

Anniversary Celebration

By Helen M |

It was fantastic! The food was delicious and the wait staff (Jazz) was so kind and hospitable. It was a great place to celebrate our anniversary with the family! Thank you!

Dinner was superbly delicious!!!

By Desiree_y2 |

Two friends and I had dinner on a Monday after leaving work since one of the friends had received an email about the special for $29.66 that the restaurant was having for Sunday and Monday nights. We all ordered the same thing, steak and lobster and all enjoyed our dinner tremendously. OMG it was so good, served fresh, tender and delicious. I don't think it could have been any more perfect. Our waitress was attentive, the adult beverages were tasty and our food was served hot, it was fresh and it was very delicious!! We all agreed, we wanted a return visit.

Not the Quality I was Expecting

By BiznessClass |

Mediocre across the board. Was a little surprised at the quality of seafood- not necessarily the preparation, but seemed like low grade quality seafood. Steak was the same- was not impressed. Additionally, the exhaust fans were not functioning, so a layer of smoke hung over the room the entire evening. Management could have stepped in to offer comps or at least an explanation, and they did neither, leaving me having to apologize to my customers. This establishment is off my list of recommended venues.

Very nice restaurant with great food!

I had the fried shrimp plate and it was delicious. Really enjoyed the atmosphere. My coworkers had steaks and oysters and they all said the food was amazing. Great wine selections, etc.

Seafood OK, great ambiance

Well, this is the place you would go for a business dining (but don't take VIPs there). The grill salmon not that fresh.. Good food, but could be better

Great atmosphere and service

Taela is a great waiter, very attentive, and polite. I love when I go and she is the one serving us. Great atmosphere and service. Love all her recommendations every time.

One of the Top Chains

By Comanchero26 |

Our's was a luncheon experience. M&S has been around for years. My first exposure to M&S was Northern Virginia. Glad to report the quality continues. The restaurant in Houston is, as with all I've experience, more business in environment...great place for after work cocktails. If your looking for a nice place for a business luncheon in downtown Houston, M&S is an excellent choice, right across the street from III Forks. We tend to eat salads for lunch, ergo, that was our selection...in fact we both had the chopped salad. Mine salad was accompanied by grilled shrimp...my fiancée's with pan seared salmon. M&S knows how to do it right...THE FIRST TIME! Our waiter was prompt and professional. My shrimp was grilled to perfection...juicy NOT rubbery. My fiancée's salmon was deliciously seared...toasty on the outside, appetizingly pink on the inside. Warmed yeast rolls served with real butter enhanced our appetites. Very affordable...$60.00 with tip. Great place even if it is a chain. Will do M&S again next time we're in Houston.

Service not as expected for fine dining!!

By trisqit |

It was not as I expected. Waiter was extremely nice but Service was very slow. We received our appetizers before we even got our water and bread. And I ordered a 2nd cocktail when my dinner came and it did not arrive until I was almost finished eating (about 20 min after ordered). I didn’t even drink it in the end because we were leaving. Not the experience I was looking for in a fine dining restaurant. Food was amazing though!!

not as good as it supposed to be

the staff is very slow and the food was just standard - compared to the price it was way to expensive

McCormick & Scmicks vs. Red Lobster

By OBuckeyeH |

Dined here Saturday evening and after waiting all day to eat at a high end restaurant we found the food to be on par with what you would get at Red Lobster. They say it is fine dining but truly it was less than expected. Server & staff were polite and courteous but we weren’t blown away by the experience.

best meal here

By JLM3080 |

This was the best meal at this M&S. weather was pleasant so managed to sit in the court yard at the front, service was very good. and the food was very well presented and prepared. The lobster tails were small but very good and the shrimp tasty. A great chocolate desert as well. Recommended

Mouth Watering Steak

Had the lobster mash potatoes. Sooo good. The steak was so tender and had great flavor. No steak sauce needed. Service was a little slow.

Thanksgiving Night Decadence

By Cynthia S |

A quiet romantic choice in a cloistered booth to enjoy our nontraditional holiday meal. We dined on crab questions, lobster bisque, trout almondine, stuffed shrimp, lobster risotto, and sweet potatoes and green beans, and finishing with Raspberry sorbet and coffee. Attentive service, exquisite cocktails and food the makings for a special dining memory.

Fantastic place for a dinner

By Rinald M |

Fantastic restaurant with a good atmosphere and food. We were staying overnight in the nearby hotel and were walking the streets to have dinner. This place looked very interesting from the outside. We got a table after a short wait. The staff were friendly, the service was quick and the food was brilliant. Great selection on the menu, well presented and tasty dishes. Everything looked very appetising, sadly there is only so much space in the stomach!

Nice steak experience

This was one of the highlights of my visit to Houston, nice food&drinks, nice place, good service. Price is kind of high but totally worth it!!! My recommendation the rib-eye steak it was delicious.

So Disappointing for a birthday dinner

By Elena |

Took a party of ten to celebrate my birthday on Saturday, October 8 at the location of Houston Fannin Street. 3 out of the 10 people had issues with their order. To start, an alcoholic beverage was served in a chipped glass. An appetizer was served spicy when my cousin has a food allergy and no where in the menu did it say it was spicy. The waiter did not make any comment when she ordered it to let her know. We told the waiter it was my birthday and confirmed if I got a complimentary dessert. He said yes. They serve it and then charged us $12 saying only the chocolate dessert was complimentary. The waiter should have told us that initially. So we ask the waiter to re-do the bill. He takes the bill, but then came back and had added the dessert again! Now we were being charged $24 for the dessert that should have been complimentary. The waiter said he didn't know how to take it off. (The $24 addition created even more tax and tip since we were a big group). The waiters were not friendly or accommodating. Didn't make us feel special at all even though we listed a celebration on the reservation. Manager never came to see us.

Service great, food bland

By David C |

Server was friendly, food was brought out promptly. "center cut" ribeye maybe 1/4 in thickness, tough and overly fatty-poor quality for a 38 dollar steak. Only flavor I could taste was the char on the steak, seemed unseasoned(some garlic might have helped). My wife ordered a mac and cheese with shrimp and andouille sausage that frankly lacked cheese-the sauce was thin like milk, NO cheese flavor in the dish at all. We have enjoyed this restaurant in the past, but were very disappointed this visit.

Fine dining with a great waitress

By William H |

We were two couples on a Saturday evening. It was not crowded at all except in the bar. The happy hour in the bar has some good appetizer prices. Three of the people in my party had salmon with something else. They were all happy with their salmon. I had the crab cakes they were very large and delicious. We also received free Desserts.

I love a good seafood restaurant

By Laura A |

I recently spent a weekend in downtown Houston and was pleasantly surprised to find this gem within walking distance of my hotel. The staff and service were outstanding. My husband and I were able to enjoy a romantic dinner in a booth that provided both privacy and a venue for people watching out the window. The restaurant had an extensive wine list and a good selection of seafood dishes. We start with a jumbo shrimp cocktail where the shrimp were truly jumbo. Have a non-seafood lover in your group? The chicken with linguine Alfredo was lightly breaded and perfectly cooked. Since we planned on walking off dinner, we shared a piece of chocolate silk mousse pie. It was deliciously decadent. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in the downtown Houston area.

Pre-concert Happy Hour

By Doug S |

My wife and I stopped here on Friday evening, April 6th during Happy Hour before attending a concert at the House of Blues. We sat at the bar and had the privilege and pleasure of having Dillon as our waiter. My wife ordered the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl which was served with sushi rice, green onion, avocado and wonton crisps. I ordered the Crispy Baja Fish Tacos which came with Southwest jicama slaw, roasted corn salsa, and cilantro ranch. The tacos were good and very flavorful! Each bite was packed with flavor of each of the components. They even had a nice little "kick" to them. For a while, the bar area was hopping but Dillon did a great job of taking very good care of us!!

Great salads!

We stopped for a light lunch and had the chopped salad and added a shrimp skewer. The perfect lunch - light and very fresh.

Calories and simple food

By TravelerTrecker |

I did not like it at all. Meat was burned. Chicken was salty. Salads were simple. Desserts boring and caloric. Very expensive for what it has to offer.
