This was my first visit. I ordered the hot roast beef sandwich & a side salad. These were just ok. The horse radish that I ordered for the RB sand. was so powerful that it burned my nostrils. Service was also just OK. Probably won't return.

I've lived within five blocks of this place for years. I've eaten and drunk here many times. The food is consistently good pub fare. There's always a great selection of craft and import beers on tap, including a cask-conditioned, hand-drawn real ale, which they call the "engine" beer, for mysterious reasons. That one'll be room temp, according to tradition. The place is always busy and always noisy. It's a true neighborhood pub, well integrated, just like the neighborhood. It's a "sports bar" in the sense that the large screen TVs always have some sporting events on. When I was young I worked in a London pub from about a year. This is the closest I've seen to that on this side of the pond.

If you want to hang out in a great neighborhood pub, with good food, a clientele that reflects the diversity of the neighborhood, a convivial atmosphere all the time, and the most amazing servers who manage to take care of the entire place without missing a beat, this is your place

Obviously this tavern has been a staple in the community for decades, but my husband and I visited it for the first time tonight (for dinner). We've lived in the area for almost a year, but haven't tried many restaurants on Germantown Ave. My husband researched a bunch of places and settled on McMenamin's because of the rave reviews he'd read online. The place is small and lively (like any neighborhood pub), but the atmosphere was very inviting. Even on a Friday night at 8, we only waited about 15 min for a table. All of the staff members were very friendly and the service was prompt. The food was AMAZING- hot and fresh with generous portions. We had jalapeno poppers for starters (you can tell they had been freshly made). My husband had the fish and chips, which he really enjoyed. I had a huge turkey burger- seasoned and cooked to perfection (maybe the best I've ever had) with a crisp garden side salad. I can't say enough positive things about this establishment. We'll definitely be back!

I love this comfortable tavern which has good food and a good selection of beers, and has an outdoor space. At times it can be crowded but it is fun and also family friendly.

My Thursday evening Irish pub. Good wings. The after 5 specials are always tasty. Friendly staff. Excellent selection of beers. Outside seating when the weather permits.

I stopped in for a beer and had a great beer and an even better steak!! The beer selection changes regularly but always has something great. The menu food is good but try the specials. I have had several of the chef's specials and they have all been top notch. The staff is helpful despite the usual packed house. Be prepared to get cozy with the locals and enjoy a great meal with terrrific beer to wash it down while you socialize with your neighbors!!

Excellent food, great portions and great service. Had a lovely night, felt like real America! Will definitely come back

Philly is a city of neighborhoods and this little gem is in the heart of one of them, Mt. Airy. A diverse crowd of sports fans may be a good kind of rowdy at the bar, while family friendly dining quietly continues in the back and outdoor spaces. The buffalo wings and burgers are excellent; there is always a creative daily dinner menu. The owner is on the premises as jack-of-all-trades and a jovial host. This third generation family-owned pub will give you a sense of local flavor in more ways than one.

17 taps, a case full of excellent bottled beer, knowledgeable staff, and great food, including chicken wings they are legendary in the area... McMenamin's is one of the things I miss most about Philly. For the best McMenamin's experience, visit during an Eagles (pronounced "Iggless") game: you'll see a crowd that's old, young, all religions, all colours, all sexual orientations, etc. just watching the game, cheering, buying drinks for each other, & hugging random strangers. It's a quick snapshot of how the world should be... just don't wear a Cowboys jersey.

Not only are the Fish & Chips amazing but their Wings are some of the best in Philadelphia. great Pub Food and Beer selection.

This place gets it right. Great atmosphere. Great drinks. And the food is 5-star restaurant level food. Best seafood I've ever had. I really don't go here enough. Always love heading down Germantown in the fall and stopping by.

Can never go wrong with McMenamins. Best food around. Quick service and great portions that have great flavor. It’s like you’re in some town in old Philly where everyone is there to be fed, drink and just enjoy the “American pub” life.

i am learning to love this place. great beer selection, great food...

I have eaten Fish and Chips on both the East and west Cost and have yet to find any that are as good. They have great wings and a wide assortment of beers. A great Value for fantastic food.

Came here twice for beer and a quick snack because it was very near to where I was staying. They have a good selection on tap which is great with their Jalapeno poppers and buffalo wings! Servings fairly generous. The servers are super cool and took care of me very well inspite of being alone! The place is cozy but can get crowded at lunch, at around 5pm and dinnertime. Would definitely come back here again!

Has to be the best burger ever. Very tasty, huge and came with whatever you want on top. Lots of fries too, their famous fries. We also had Irish Beef Stew, Frogs Legs, Poppers, fish and chips and beer. They have a huge selection of craft beer. The place is crowded and very busy. Parking is a problem, they don't have a lot and this area of Mt. Airy is very popular. Find a parking spot and walk.

When we are working at the Lutheran seminary in Philadelphia we must have lunch at McMenamins. The ale is also a must accompaniment. But beware the dessert! It is humongous and decadent not to mention delicious

We've been here a couple of times for a drink. It's a typical Irish bar - lots of people, lots of beer and lots of noise! Two drinks are enough for us but its fun to come to!

Excellent food, great beer, fast and efficient service. However, it's really small and loud and could be a bit cleaner. Definitely going back for more though. It's a great place to grab a quick meal and really, the food is outstanding.

We are huge fans of McMenamins! Paul and all the other servers rock. They will make a rare burger, which is rare. Love the fries, fish n chips and everything else we order. Food is great. Place is small and gets really crowded so be prepared to wait. Well worth your time. A gem in Mt. Airy.

Food, drinks, & fun this is always a nice place to go to get away for a few hrs. Service is great along with the friendly people that walk in the door.

Remember when you were in college and would head out at 10 to the local bar where you could hardly move. Same thing only the crowds start at 5 pm, the food is average at best, you can hardly move, not enough seating, bar is small and you cam hardly hear yourself talk.

I've been to this establishment a few times I was never disappointed. It's a nice bar with a "neighborhood feel". The food was excellent, drinks were in abundance, service and wait staff were very personal and professional! Keep up the good work, food comes highly recommended. I personal recommend the "fish and chips" and any of the beers (they have a nice selection)!

The food at McMenamin's makes me rethink my previous five star reviews. This food was so fresh and delicious a true standout. The vegetarian chili was divine. Excellent service and diverse drinking menu. Outdoor seating was perfect for an afternoon lunch.

I went here to help out a lifelong friend. I was greeted as a friend at the door. The servers were kind and helpful. We ordered their Angus burgers and fingers, wings. The wings were nice, crisp. The bbq sauce on it was great. The Angus burgers were made perfect per our orders and we would come back just for the burgers alone. On my way out, they made sure I had enough napkins, sauce and the food was all wrapped up nicely. Masks were all around too as was several patrons who sat on their street side tables who were all smiles. We will come back. 🙂❤️

This is my local bar. Food is good & staff are the best. Very diverse clientele which adds to this place. Wings are my go to here. Menu is large & I have never had 1 bad meal here

I won't pass through the area without stopping for a delicious meal and frosty beverage. Consistently friendly service, freshly prepared food made to order, and great drinks. Their fries are among the best around! Highly recommend the chicken salad!

Go on a weekday for dinner and outstanding beer. You won't have to wait for a table like Friday or Saturday. Why do the locals line up for a spot at the bar or a table in the back? A quintessential tavern experience. The food is great, the beer is wonderful and the crowd is typical Peoples Republic of Mount Airy. Every one enjoys this tavern that has been here forever. And hopefully will be around for a very long time. There are few places that are this welcoming. Can I award more than five stars?

The crowd is always friendly; the seating in back is limited and opens up outside in good weather. Often lunch time sees the bar in front empty and the seating out back filled. THE FOOD IS ALWAYS A LEVEL ABOVE THE COMPETITION and their specials often-time rival the four & five-star restaurants in Center City at half the price. Although I no longer work in as close proximity, it is still my go-to place (now drive-to place). Never disappointed (25+ years).

had lunch here today with the hubs....had grilled chicken sandwich, hubs had wings and fish n chips. hubs says wings were very good. have had take out from here before - salads are great! plus they have decent wine by the glass (as well as a huge beer selection)

Fun place! Great spot for watching an Eagles game on TV! This is a genuine neighborhood bar in one of Philly's most eclectic neighborhoods (Mt. Airy). It is located in a lively commercial district on Germantown Avenue, the main street in the community. You can meet all types of people here, and it's all good. The food is well prepared and there are plenty of choices on the menu. Prices are low to moderate. BIG selection of beers. Highly recommended.

Not just a bar, but an excellent restaurant. Was just there 2/12/17 and ordered the salmon burger. Expected a salmon patty on a bun, but got much more! Not dry or overfilled with breading - just salmon - light and so tasty. Always good food and drink.

Walked in and it was very reminiscent of some bars in Amsterdam we’ve seen. Very busy and loud on a Friday night, which is great! Enjoyed some cider, ON TAP and it WAS NOT Angry Orchard! Bartenders were great and attentive.

Delicious American goodies and great service. Burgers and fish and chips scrumptious. Salads good too. WE really enjoyed our experience especially since we had walked out of Geechee Girls after not being served for over 2 hours. What a contrast. The server was delightful.

This is a great neighborhood restaurant that always has daily specials and a nice size draft beer selection. The fries are my favorite! If you can't decide on what you want to eat, just stop here they have a little something for everyone.

Come to Mc Menamins for 3 great reasons:very good beer, very good food and very good neighborhood needing place! If you want to get to know the wonderful people in the Mt.Airy neighborhood come cheer for a Philly team while eating the best burger and fries or anything else on the menu? The food is excellent and many notches above boring bar food. The chef knows how to cook!

Good selection of local brews and a variety of seasonal hearty dishes. Our table sampled the wurst plate, the schnitzel, and the fried smelts. Home-made mash potatoes and sauerkraut were outstanding. Small and cozy with friendly, helpful staff. Can't wait to return!

I live in this neighborhood & this is always a good go to spot especially during warmer weather when u can opt to sit outside. Tends to get crowded @ night then the service gets a lil short. Gr8 selection of beers & food. Pretty chill spot.

I've been going to McMenamin's for almost twenty years...this bar is my "Cheers," and not only do we all know the bartenders, we also know all the other patrons! The food is spectacular - there is literally nothing on the menu that isn't delicious, and I'm not exaggerating! The burgers are divine, there are so many beers it's hard to choose, and the bartenders know how to pour a REAL drink (delicious and strong!). The bartenders are caring and always remember everyone's favorite drinks and how we like our burgers cooked. They can tell when I want to chat and when I want to sit quietly and read...it's just the best place...ever. Especially during a football game and snowstorms!!

This is the place to get you grub and drink on.... Burgers, wings ... Yummmm but even better is the fish and chips and sometimes the specials that you wouldn't expect at a "bar". Beers on tap that you will love

We used to live in Mt Airy (seven years) and ate here all the time, I even had my fortieth birthday party here which was so much fun. The burgers are incredibly good and their prices are very reasonable, but don't be fooled by the look of the place the kitchen here puts out some very interesting and delicious food and I'm not talking about mere bar food either. This time we were here for lunch and I couldn't resist having a burger and it was more delicious than I remembered - thick and juicy on a kaiser roll with tomato, onion, and lettuce. My spouse had a BLT overflowing with bacon and our friend Martha had crispy chicken tenders. We all had the soup (curry chickpea) which was also very good. Even when the place is busy (and it usually is) the service is excellent! We really miss living in Mt Airy and McMenamin's is one of the businesses we miss most.

McMenamin's Tavern always good food, sports, drinks, try the ceaser salad and wings. Always a pleasure to walk in those swinging doors. Keep up the great work in CHESTNUT HILL.

Don't go to McMenamins for the beer. it's true that this is a very good beer bar in an outlying neighborhood of Philadelphia. There are dozen taps that change with the seasons and maybe 25 bottles, lots of Belgians and most of them are really good. But you shouldn't drive up from center city for the beer. The reason to seek this place out is that they've hired a chef who turns out a top-notch bar menu (burgers, sandwiches, soup) and who crafts a list of specials that will knock your socks off. A rack of lamb? Sure. Tempura this and that? you betcha. You'll also find broiled fish, braised ribs, the occasional knock-out pasta dish. You can bank on anything on the list being delicious. (Desserts are less reliable, but sometimes yummy). We two have rarely spent more than $50 on dinner and that includes several hoity-toity beers. The crowd is mt. airy-friendly and the service is crisp and efficient. TV sets surrounding the bar and dining room make it a good place to catch the phillies.

What else is there to say? A solid choice for value dining in Mount Airy. Atmosphere is old-time dive bar. Not a place for a sophisticated night out but an excellent choice for good food on a budget. Fish and Chips are great. PS There is a free city parking lot behind the building next door.

We are McMenamin's regulars and the place never disappoints. The drinks are ample, the regular menu is extensive and the weekly list of specials are of the type you would find in a much fancier and expensive establishment (e.g., escargots!). If you live in NW Philadelphia and have not visited you should.
For the Eagles fans
Last weekend I came here to watch an Eagles game and the vibe in this establishment was immaculate. Every time we (the Eagles) scored a touchdown, they would mute the tv and sign "fly Eagles fly" and everyone would sign along, in addition to ringing the bell they had. Food I ordered was delicious and the service was friendly and attentive.
