I'd recommend this place to come for a drink or three, and maybe a game or pool thrown in, but I found the food to be pretty poor. I had fish and chips and the fish was the oiliest I've had in a long time. I had to completely pull all the batter off to make it edible.

We stopped in for a drink on Friday night and there were lots of people playing pool. We sat in a booth by the window and enjoyed a pint. This location also has outdoor seating. The server was a bit stodgy, but otherwise we had a good time.

My group on a company trip ate dinner here and had drinks the following night. We enjoyed a friendly atmosphere and fun with shuffleboard. My two favs are the Hammerhead ale and the Ruby red. Very consistent and delicious. Their menu has several choices and not too hard on the wallet.

My choice of drink was the "Nebraska Bitter" at $5.75 a pint and a strength of 4.5% volume. I awarded it 6/10 so mid range. For food I selected the "El Diablo" which is a chicken burger with avacado, tomato and onion and a side dish of tato tots (mini croquette potatoes) which cost the princely sum of $14.25.

The Blue Moon Tavern is a unique McMenamin's with a really nice interior. There's lots of seating, and it just has a warm, cozy feel to it. As per the McMenamin's standard, their food is always good and the drinks are tasty. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!

Stumbled across Blue Moon whilst exploring NW Portland, hunting for a quiet place for a couple of frothys. We found Blue Moon to be a great option to escape the weather and 'people watch' in comfort. The prices are right, the burgers are massive and the wait staff are VERY friendly and helpful. We also appreciated the McMenamins menu, as well as the desserts! I wouldn't necessarily make an effort across town for this place - or expect a five star night out here - but if you're in the area and are looking for a reliable meal, then this place is very hard to beat.

Very welcoming neighborhood pub. Part of the McMenamins chain, you get the eclectic decor, common menu, great beer, and awesome staff. Go at a time when you can enjoy the artwork and history!

A great experience at Blue Moon Tavern and Grill. The Ahi tuna salad was fantastic and great customer service at the bar. An overall great time. I'll be back for sure.

Bar in the Nob Hill area of Portland. Nice decor and atmosphere. Good selection of food and drink on the menu at reasonable prices. Service friendly and efficient. Background music excellent. Will return.

Eaten here a few times and never again. The food that tastes ok has such small portions you are left hungry(and the price isn't less than other places with reasonable or oversized meals). The burger and sides are adequate sized but not very good. Beer is average. Not sure why people like this place. FYI....my husband and I usually split an entree so we weren't expecting all you can eat potions. I guess people that come here exist on fries and tater tots.

We went her to start off an evening of pub crawling. The place is a classic bar/tavern, with pool tables and outdoor seating. They push the tater tots which were pretty good. The best in show hot dog was also ok. The three craft beers I had were good. Service was average. I would go here, but not rush back.

We went here on a trip to Portland to watch the Portland Timbers. As a Manchester City fan who had just watch City beat United in the Derby in the early hours of the morning this seemed like the perfect venue for a few pre football pints, even if just for the name. Great service from the staff, managed to try a few new beers, one I really didn't like but thats the risk you take when you are trying new beers. Overall a good visit

Went here with a group on a beer tour in the alphabet district and it didn't disappoint. The was a great selection of craft beer... There was pool and this othe game that looked like curling on a table. Best of all you have to try the tater tots! They are like mini hash browns with cajun spices and ranch dressing to dip them in. Nom nom nom.

Stopped in here once and HAD to return while vacationing in Portland. Burgers, sandwiches, fries and tots are a great way to experience "brew food" in the city. Highly recommend the hard cider and the oatmeal stout. Atmosphere is open-air, yet still "pub-like." Friendly staff and good prices!

We stopped in for lunch while shopping locally. Didn't know what to expect as it is a tavern. The décor and atmosphere was very pleasant. We ordered potato soup and fish and chips. The potato soup was some of the best potato soup I have ever had. The fish and chips were good but nothing special. I would eat here again.

Stopped in here before I started my drinking on st. Patrick's Day. Great tater tots with dipping sauces. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and ate every bit of it. Plenty of pool tables and televisions to watch. 2 shuffleboard tables as well. Great service and great team members I will definitely be back

I walked passed this great McMenamin's place a couple times while doing to and from Cinema 21 to watch a few old classic Film Noir films for the Noir Festival that had showing there this week. I was tempted to check it out and my temptation lead me into the door for a drink before I headed home. Man, this place bowled me over. It looked fantastic inside. Very cozy. Very cool looking. I felt I had stumbled upon a great place to just hang out. Of course you fins all kinds of interesting artwork all over the place like all Menamin's establishments have. But this place had a few extra perks. Two shuffle board tables with skylights up above them. Three pool tables. Three pinball machines. a Juke Box. one wood stove near the entrance with small tables by the windows. And a very cool round wood fueled fire place with tiled counter all around it... with wood stacked against the back wall. This just right before you get to the bar. And this is where I sat to drink. I had ordered an Irish Stout since it was St. Patrick's weekend. I plan to come back often. And you can beet I will be having more than just a wee pint. Next time I'll have a bite to eat as well. There are wood booths against the back wall that head toward the NW 21st front windows starting after the three Pinball machines in the southeast corner of the room. Yeah, once in a blue moon you find a great place to hang out.

Kind of a dive but the beer and atmosphere are worth the stop. I was with a local friend and got to hear about the Mcmenamins history, different types of beer, and other local spots I'll try and hit up next time I'm in town. Great place if you're into the local beer and culture.

We stopped by for a weekend lunch while pursuing Cosmic Tripster status. The food was fine, we enjoy the McMenamin's menu, and the staff was friendly. While working on the Passport program, this is one of the more lively spots.

In customer service I have learned something called the customers right of way. This means that when a customer is in the way of the server, the server will kindly wait or walk another route around the guest. Unfortunately this does not apply here at the blue moon and if you play shuffle board you are constantly in their way because they refuse to take an extra 20 steps around the other side. I did not choose the layout of your shuffle board and if I am going to be paying $5 for a game (which is free in most other bars) I don't want to be given the evil eye by every server walking by. We came for happy hour but prices were really not that special compared to the rest of the strip. If the service was more friendly maybe we would have stayed.

The Blue Moon is a fun place to grab a drink and dine on good comfort pub food. It's a big place with lots of seating areas. A wood-burning fireplace adds even more atmosphere to this friendly place. Kudos to management to having the moxie to have guest taps of craft beers beyond those of the company's offerings.

Once the king of microbrews and food they are now in a crowded field but they still hold their own. Good beer and good food and always inviting spaces.

My girlfriend and I were staying in the neighborhood and went here on our first night in town. It was a great place to sit and watch the people go by as it had open walls onto the sidewalk. The beer list had some good stuff on it which is to say it had stuff other than IPA's. There is a pretty quirky and cool interior that we liked. Our waitress was the happiest and most pleasant young woman you could meet. We wanted to hug her and not let go.

It was a gray cool day so my son and I stopped into the Blue Moon Tavern for lunch. We wanted to get dry and warm. We headed for the fire pit. A server asked if we are 21 and over because parts of the restaurant aren't open to minors. We sat by the fire and got toasty warm. Our server got us menus very quickly and asked for a beverage order. Purple Haze beer sounded good. We ordered a Turkey Sandwich and a Kale Salad with Chicken. The food arrived in a reasonable time. It was all very tasty! The atmosphere in the Blue Moon is very warm and funky. There are pinball machines and shuffleboard. There are also billiards tables. Blue Moon is a great lunch stop and looks like a good evening hangout spot too!

Good food, great service. Beer is always top shelf. Nice place to sit, have a cold one or two and people watch. I must say as an out of towner, Portland is keeping to their motto of "keeping it wierd" WOW!

Blue Moon's food was good, but not fantastic. It also took an excruciatingly long time to arrive. I suspect that if you are having a night with friends and planning to enjoy a craft beer or local cider, with or without dinner, this would be a good choice. If you are a non-drinker you might want to look elsewhere.

Coolest atmosphere. The old building is fun and has an open plan that allows many of the inside tables to get the feel of outdoor seating. We stopped by for a pre dinner drink and came back for a night cap. The beer brewed by the parent company is very good. The cocktail was well made. We ordered desert, the brownie, which was good. Highly recommend for a drink with a great atmosphere.

In light of the pandemic, it was the only restaurant in the area that offered "dine in" eating. When you waited to be seated, you had the option of a menu using your smart phone or a paper menu. Also, there was hand sanitizer as you waited to be seated. When ordering, the server stood a social distance away from the table. Good variety of menu options. We had the traditional gyro and the turkey sandwich with tots and both were very good. Good pace of the meal. Despite the pandemic, it was a relaxing meal.

We really liked the atmosphere in this place, there were pool tables and a working jukebox for selecting music. The food was tasty, and there were a wide range of different beers to try. Despite the name, there were no blue moons though! Would definitely recommend this place.

Very comfortable place to hand with friends and have some really good locally brewed beers by McMennamins.

I ordered the Day Tripper and the mushrooms in it were delicious. A little too much bread for my taste but after I pulled it apart to eat open faced, I ate up the amazing tater tots. Yum! Reasonably priced with friendly service.

Stopped here on a warm Sunday afternoon. Sat inside & ordered a couple drinks & some snacks. Service was quick & friendly. Scooby snacks & tater tots were yummy, & drinks were refreshing!

Typical McMenamins fare. Good bet menu and typical food. The service was typical McMenamins also....... Good. Nice little place to visit.

Our plane was a little late and we were looking for a restaurant close to the Inn at Northrup Station. The one that the desk person suggested we try was closed and were we glad! The Blue Moon Tavern was on the same block and we decided to give it a try. The food was great, the service was phenomenal and the vibe was excellent. During dinner, we tried the IPA, fish and chips and Captain Neon (blue cheese and bacon burger) and all were excellent. It was what you would want on a Friday night, good food, great service and a very relaxed and fun atmosphere!

good location. same over priced mcminnamon food and beer. much better options on the street with in a hundred feet

We spent happy hour here (3pm to 6pm) drinking cider and eating sliders in the sun. Just perfect. Lovely friendly staff and really cool place. Good food too! Recommend the cheeseburger and the BLT! Yum. So good we went back later that night.

This delightful local restaurant is near my sister's house and near the Inn at Northrup Station too. Great pastas, and the drinks are worth the trip. Nice crowd, good service.

We have been hanging out here for 22 years! It's a great local bar, with pool tables, pinball, fireplace... It's a cozy spot on a rainy day (we have a lot of those around here), and on a sunny day, snag a sidewalk table and order a pint of Ruby. And tots. Duh.

Very cute restaurant (bring the kids!) that feels like a pub. Dark, mood lighting (went after dark) but have pool tables and shuffle boards in the back. Lots of church-pew type booths (perhaps a bit too upright) and a fun fire table (chairs around a central fire) that looked WARM. We had very simple food for happy hour (3pm - 6pm) and beers. Overall average beer prices ($5 to $6) and good service. I'd go back.

As pub food goes this was disappointing. The fish and chips was two small portions of cod which had been pre-packaged somewhere and the chips were soggy and poorly fried. This neighborhood has better to offer.

This is a McMinnamin's location. Food was aveerage and service was very slow, which is a trademark of McMinnamin's establishments. A bit over priced for the product you get. Had the dungeon burger and fries. Fries were soggy, burger was good. Too many other places for lunch to go back here again.

Good food and brewery they have I recommend the Cuban and the tortilla soup. I would come back some people just don't know what to order with their apatite.

Located on the corner of a busy known neighborhood, the menu provided tasty choices, excellent beers and liquors, and the blast from the past shuffle board table. Loved the dips that were provided for french fries, found the serving perfect and the staff friendly.

The burgers and fries were really good. Juicy and lots of meat. Not much else on menu and the facility was very outdated. Very hard to find parking in this area!

It's a comfortable bar. Cozy like and with a reasonable beer selection. Ironically, I am not generally a fan of Blue Moon brand beer. It's like craft beer's Budweiser. Anyhow, that said, I like the atmosphere of the place. And all the employees there are usually quite friendly and pleasant. Not a bad option on said street.

This gem was down the road from the hostel I was staying at. I had heard a lot over my vacations about the different McMenamins owned establishments and to make sure to check one out before I left. The restaurant had both indoor and outside seating. The inside was open air toward the front, which was nice for people watching. I ordered the nachos, tacos, and scooby snacks off of their happy hour menu. They were all good portions for the price paid. I was happy with them all, which really hit the spot. I did not have any booze. However, they do not serves any soda beyond RC cola. :-/ My server was very fast and friendly throughout especially with the refills. This place is in an area with a lot of foot traffic, so no shortage of people watching while you dine.

I feel a little sorry for the excellent front of house team at Blue Moon. They needed to manage a few disappointing products if the kitchen the 2 nights we ate/drank there. Super salty fries (in edible), poor pretzels and ‘orrible fondue were some of the issues we and the bar crew had to deal with. Nice vibe though. Good burger and hot dog. Nice staff too.

Thank you to another reviewer who mentioned having had a berry hard cider here. Now, I am not a big beer or cider drinker, but holy smokes, the (seasonal only) blackberry cider I had blew me away. I could have stopped here just for that, though I did stuff my face with a juicy burger and tater tots too! My husband had a delicious amber ale with his burger, but he was eyeing and sipping from my cider most of the meal! We stopped in for an early lunch and were the second people in the place. We had fast, attentive service. But I'd think if the place were crowded or it was sports viewing time, you'd need to be in the mood for that vibe. We loved the way the sides of the building were open for air flow and there is outdoor seating (good weather). Our burgers were good (not stellar) but the drinks definitely stole the show, especially mine.

One of our "go-to" places when we are in the area. We were greeted warmly & seated promptly. Had a nice table with a window and could watch the world pass by. Typical McMenamin menu. Had the Captain Neon burger and the tuna salad sandwich with salad and everything was very good. Very relaxing atmosphere. Service was good. Would definitely return.

Great bar with good food and some excellent microbew! Nice ambience and good service! Highly recommended.

I arrived in Portland late and asked at the front desk what was open at this hour and they recommended Blue Moon. About a 5 block walk and easy to find. As I said it was late, I was probably the only person ordering food, but my burger was well prepared and tasty, Cajun tater tots were crisp and spicy.

It was great being able to just sit yourself and wait for the rest of your party to arrive. The service was prompt and very polite and checked up on us often even though it was a busy Saturday night! Food was great and the drinks were awesome.

This is one of a collection of McMenamin's locations throughout Oregon. Good location with both indoor & outdoor seating. Good place to people watch. Seated promptly. Good variety of menu items and each location has their own soups. Had the corn chowder with sausage and the dinner salad & half sandwich as well as the tuna melt and everything was very good. Server, Ryker, was very personable and professional and check on us regularly. Relaxing atmosphere.

We stopped in for lunch as we did the 23rd District by foot and sat at the bar. Bar tender was great, knowledgable about the area, different beers, local wines etc. Hubby chose Purple Haze which had a berry in it, was great. I tried a local chardonnay and enjoyed it. Hubby had a hot dog with so much on it, definitely a whole meal and i just had a wedge salad that had nice blue cheese pieces loaded up. The restaurant has shuffleboard and pool or you can sit around a fire. Great friendly service, great drinks and great food. Picked up a passport for my stepson so he can get rewards for trying all the different places owned by them.

Didn't eat here, but was tempted to order one of their brick oven pizzas. If you're trying IPAs, I would suggest the Orange Goblin! It was my favorite of everything I tried in Portland. They have shuffleboard and televisions inside. It was so close to where we were staying that we actually stopped by several times throughout our short trip. Each time the bar staff was amazing and there was quite a crowd littered about.

This is a nice hangout in Nob Hill neighborhood of Portland that has two pool tables, two shuffleboards and three pinball machines to play with. Servers are usually very friendly. I had “Take me to the moon burger” and a pint of craft beer called “purple haze” both of which were tasty. The burger was juicy though tots are not as hot as usual today. I’m a fan of their dark beers too. I like it that they’ve got good selection of pub foods and drinks but you can also come with kids.

This place serves some great burgers, tasting very fresh and not too greasy. Good size portions and fair prices. The only complaint, the service was a bit slow, even when there was only one other table being waited on. But, all in all, I would come back.

Good to have a few drinks with friends. Not too expensive and good atmosphere all around. Recommend!

Had a lovely dinner and drinks. The atmosphere was fantastic with the indoor fire pit. We'll return again the staff was friendly and courteous.

Visited Blue Moon in the NW because they had pomegranate glasses of cider for $3.50...not a bad deal. Plus they had a menu that showed vegan/gluten free options which is hard to come by in a bar setting. As it gets more packed getting a drink from the bar gets harder and harder. In Portland I guess it is normal to form lines at the bar to order your drinks? I enjoyed myself immensely at the pool tables and shuffle boards...until "bros" started pouring in. Hey there is nothing wrong with a slew of backwards caps and boating loafers...but being surrounded by the frat pack got old after a while....Other than that the atmosphere is great!

We wanted to grab a quick dinner before a movie. This was our 1st time in and it was great. We were seated promptly, our server was very attentive, the food was out quick and it was delish. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Great atmosphere, great staff, ok food! But they dont advertise great food, so come in grab a beer or cocktail and escape the cold in this cool tavern

This is one of the first McMenamin's brewpubs we visited more than 20 years ago and we still enjoy going here. You can play pool and hang out by the fire, or sit outside and people watch. Good burgers and fries.

Wonderful mix of tavern & curbside dining in NW Portland! I treated myself to a spectacular grilled chicken salad and local craft beer. Great place to people watch as well ❗️
Relaxing lunch outside in a beautiful neighborhood
Had lunch at Blue Moon recently. We scored a table outside on a beautiful day. A cute neighborhood and friendly waitstaff. Great drink selections. I had the fish tacos, they were excellent. My husband enjoyed his burger. Prices are reasonable.
