Good IPA and food

By flat1977ekh |

Two trips to this McMenamin's this time in Portland. Excellent fish and chips. Market Street bowl is very good-especially the chutney. Recommend the bread pudding and Bishop's Wolf IPA.

Nice pub with good food

By der_blaue_reiter |

It is a nice pub with typical American cuisine and a very good selection of drinks. You can sit comfortably inside or outside. The service is very friendly.

Great tater tots, friendly staff

By wendy w |

It was a dark and stormy night - what a great find. Very reasonable prices, fun menu, great Thai Chicken soup and tater tots!!!! Would also recommend the black and tan dessert (too small to share however)

Busy and friendly environment

By Nocilantro52 |

I went on a beautiful spring evening with lots of people enjoying the weather in the outdoor seating. I was seated in a relatively quiet booth inside. The server was very friendly and prompt. I ordered a half turkey sandwich with a peanut chicken soup -- really! At first I was served a tuna sandwich which I was pretty sure I didn't order, though turkey and tuna could sound similar. Anyway my correct order soon came, with apologies, and both the sandwich and the soup were delicious! I would order it again for the quality and the price -- a little over $7. My server checked back with me several times. It was a little slow getting my change back but all in all a pleasant experience.

Good beer, standard pub fare, well prepared

By Steve4241 |

Pretty similar to an English pub. Good, but pretty standard, selection of beers. Terminator Stout was quite nice. All of my group's food tasted and looked good. Service was prompt, and they didn't push people out the door after eating. Friendly atmosphere.

Great lunch/great atmosphere

By Irishlass201147 |

My husband and I stopped in for an early lunch and found a goldmine. The menu was varied and had a great choice of a half sandwich with soup or salad for under $10. I had the tuna salad sandwich with garden salad. Both were extremely fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is fun and comfortable. Would highly recommend.

If you like limp French fries, this is the place for you.

By nancyvictoria |

The sandwich was OK, awful fries. Friendly service.

Delicious food - unexpectedly healthy

By katefree2015 |

We ordered the hummus plate to accompany our drinks. It was delicious! It came with assorted veggies as well as the hummus and pitas. It was almost a full meal!

Great pub meal

By Ami H |

This was a quiet pub that have a great small pub atmosphere. I was there during the college summer holiday, I suspect it would get busy when college is back in session given it proximity to the local college.

Good Food, Nice Wait Staff

By solofemaletraveler99 |

Sat outside with a friend after stumbling on this place. The patio area was very nice--too bad they had to start closing up at 10 p.m. on a week day. The local whiskey selection was tasty and very reasonably priced. Second stop was over lunchtime by myself. Didn't have time to sit for a meal, so I ordered a tuna sandwich to go with a side Caesar. One-half sandwich probably would have been enough (and was available--total for that would have been under $10)--very tasty and was available quickly. Handled by a very friendly cashier/wait person and again, reasonably priced.

Great pizza

By Jack O |

The pizza was really good and so were the Cajun tater tots. I would highly recommend both. The menu wasn't that large, but there were good choices. The only complaint was slow service.

Lunch in the Sun

By joslyn1966 |

just had lunch at McMenamins Market Street Pub. Had the fish and chips but substituted tater tots in place of fries. Food was delivered quickly and was very tasty. Patio is lovely with amply seating. The inside of the restaurant is nice as well. Our waiter was very attentive and kept our drinks refilled.

Great beer great people

By Tosh S |

I went there for their happy hour. There were so many kinds of beer, and hard time to decide which to order. I asked a person behind the counter. He was very kind and nice. He recommended me to order beer flight. I could enjoy 6 different kinds of beer.

Convenient location after farmers' market

By Tokyo2004 |

It locates just a few minutes' walk from the farmer's market and enjoyed Saturday lunch there. As we entered there as early lunch, enjoyed food and drinks with quiet atmosphere.

This was the perfect stop for lunch.

On our first visit to Portland, we wanted to walk around the city. We had seen many sights and it was lunchtime. Our feet needed a break. We stopped at this place. It wasn't too crowded for a weekday, and we were seated immediately. It is a small restaurant. We had burgers and fries, and they were delicious. It was a welcome respite from all our walking and sightseeing.

Relaxing Atmosphere

By mike_pam_rivers |

Good beer, friendly service, good pub fare with an occasional special. Nice outdoor patio. Noisy, but then it b is in the center of town.

Marvellous

By Gary W |

Dropped in at the pub on spec and was pleasantly surprised. Reasonably priced food and beverages, friendly service, good atmosphere that catered to all ages - from the lady in the wheel chair, the very old man with his bicycle, a table of gays and my family. The courtyard area was overly.

Early HH

By Jo L |

Enjoyed very much a quiet afternoon snack at the bar with home brew beers and excellent customer services from Darrin. This Mcmenamins is very cozy, I liked the chairs outside with a feeling of a patio with sun shades, very welcoming. Food was really good too.

Great food and staff

By PortlandPhyl |

The location was great and easy to find. The waitress was very helpful with our McMenamin stamping hunt and gave us some helpful advice on our "stamping" quest for our passport books. The restaurant was very well lit and had a very nice setting. We ordered our free passport book hamburger and fries and it was very fresh and well prepared.

really great soup and virgin mojitos ... nicely located too

Poor Service

By JohnLM |

We are BIG McMenamins' fans. We consistently have good experiences and enjoy their restaurants. This is the exception. The greeting we received when we first walked in was surly and things went downhill from there. The beer was its usual good quality, the decor is the typical McMenamins fare, the food was good, but whomever hired the wait staff is clearly trying to push traffic up the street to Rogue!

Much better McMenamin's locations in Portland

By Mike191919 |

McMenamin's has many great places, renovated old buildings filled with artwork, old lighting, etc. They serve up decent pub food and consistently good beer and wine (I know its not the best beer in Portland, but its still solid beer). This, unfortunately, while having the same food/drink, has no character and with so many McMenamin's establishments close by, would be a waste of time. As a tourist in Portland, this would not be the place to experience a McMenamins atmosphere. Go to the Ringlers, Zeus Cafe, Ram's Head, Kennedy School, and so on. Those are all amazing historical buildings that they have done amazing work with to restore and add their own creative touch. They are much more worth your time.

Can be crowded.....

By Salsi69 |

but worth the wait. Beer everywhere & lots of pub grub (healthy portions for sure). A good place to people watch or just chill out while having a beer. If you like, you can even sit outside.

Was hoping for more

By marn123 |

Directed here by our hotel staff. Came late for dinner and very hungry. Was hoping for chicken strips for our teen but no such luck. She had fish and fries which were ok but both seemed overcooked-if you like really crispy then you'd be happy. Burgers and beer were good. House red wine was one of the worst I've had and couldn't even finish it. Quite spendy for what is was.

Recommended to us

By Kelly c |

This was highly recommended for us on our first trip to Portland. We were not disappointed with a sampler of siders and a very interesting cucumber margarita topped off with very good clam chowder, homemade tuna salad sandwich and a turkey dip. Definitely recommended to come back.

Pleasant, local pub

By OklahomaMomOf3 |

We enjoyed a "flight" (sample of 6 beers) and their sweet potato fries on a beautiful afternoon at an outdoor table. Our service was friendly and attentive.

Worst McMenamin's Experience EVER!

By MeAgain8 |

We came here for lunch with out of town guests prior to a show at the Newmark Theatre. It was a Saturday afternoon and we allowed plenty of time (1.5 hours) to eat and walk to the theater. Upon entering, we stood at the entry for a good 5 minutes before being acknowledged. Finally, we were seated, but had to ask for menus, then silverware. My father-in-law, who is a Celiac, was so excited to have a burger with a fresh gluten free bun. It took some time, but we finally got our server to come to the table to take our order. When our drinks came out, he put both red wines in the middle of table. One person had ordered a Cabernet and the other a Pinot. We asked which was which and the waiter said, "I'm not sure, you figure it out!" We waited another 45 minutes for our food to arrive and were worrying we'd be late for the show. We flagged down a different waiter and then a cook brought our food to the table. Of the four of our orders, only 1 was correct and they weren't sure which bun was "Gluten Free". After trying to sort it out ourselves, we again waived down the waiter and asked if he could help. He said, "I don't know, how about I just comp the meal?" Then he took our order form tore it in half and walked away from the table. Needless to say, I was speechless and embarrassed that we brought our parents here. I will say that we eat at other McMenamin's and have never had a problem I wish I had got the waiter's name because he shouldn't be in a position where he works with the public!

Nice cozy Pub Near The Art Museum

By RSNN |

I was on my way to The Portland Art Musuem and it was starting to rain, so I spotted this Pub and decided it was a good time to stop for a late lunch. I had their Bacon Cheese Burger and a Terminator Stout. The burger was juicy and delicious. Terminator is a fantastic stout. I love it. There are nice wood booths along the windows on the south side of the pub. And as usual you have the unique and interesting artwork gracing the room. Service was very good. It is another great McMenamins establishment.

Great brews and cheap happy hour yummies

By Sarah L |

I had a whole meal for under $10 including a burger, fries big enough for the whole table and a nice salad. Just make sure you get there before 6. The beer was a bargain too, and delicious. The service was slow but the kitchen was fast, so it all balanced out.

Typical neighborhood tavern

By Bryan F |

The service was good. It's tucked away off the street. But not hard to find. Standard McMenamins menu and drinks.

Nice place

By laikanet |

This was the only McMenamins I visited during my Portland visit and was well pleased. The patio outside was nice and cosy. I had a Falafel with a side salad. I wasn't crazy about the balsamic vinaigrette (I mostly like my salads with plain olive oil and balsamic/some vinegar) but the salad was good. Fresh and had enough green variety. Falafel was a tad dry and bland but was good enough. What made this visit shine though, was our super nice waiter. He was friendly, personable, had a sense of humour and wasn't pushy at all. Very very nice. Overall a very good experience!

Great Garlic Bread!!

By Jen2900 |

My daughter, her friends and I had lunch at McMenamins. The service was very good as was the food. The soup of the day was Cream of Artichoke, which was excellent and garlic bread and Cajun tater tots were yummy too! Everyone was very happy with their lunch choice. The ice tea was really good! Often ice tea is over brewed or mixed from powder, but this was fresh brewed and just right. Good lunch stop, plenty of seating with a nice lunch and beer selection available.

Run down but only place open after 10 pm

By dvorac4 |

This is a very run down, sort of beaten up little pub that could have a lot of charm and atmosphere if someone just gave it some TLC. it is the only place we could find open to have a drink and something to eat after 10 pm. the drinks were watery, the fries were incredibly soggy and greasy, and this was a real disappointment. The bartender was also the only server so service was slow even though he moved rather fast until he started flirting with a girl at the bar and ignored everyone else.

Happy Hour

By anilif |

Stopped by for HH, great prices on food, $2 pretzel, i also had a quesdilla that was $4 I think. The campus punch was great, vodka, blackberry cider and something else.

In the building

By lmantel |

It is convenient. The service is slow, the food is good or better. I go for lunch (business) or dinner (don't feel like cooking). The Happy Hour is a good deal, but we usually don't eat that early. The soups are outstanding, especially the chicken-peanut.

Good food, Engaging Staff

By jim B |

Went in after touring Saturday Farmers market at very PSU. Prefer to be seated and waited on, so we skipped the long lines at the market. The gyros were generously filled and tasty. Ditto the Greek tots. Had a great conversation with the waiter about all the hard ciders that they offer.

Turned out better than I thought it would

By Dryside |

Pretty typical bar food menu. We were invited in a party of 21 and it is a rather small pub. What I really liked was they didn't even pretend to serve everyone at once. Instead they served 7 at a time with nice fresh hot meals. The service was excellent.

One of the McMenamins

By Atepower32 |

Located just off of the PSU campus. Small pub with a friendly vibe that is open late. Great food with homemade soups, clam chowder and split pea, were one of the best I've had. The salads are very filling and the desserts are to die for. Needed to walk a fw miles to burn the calories eaten that night.

Good Pub

By Gary W |

Good spot for a drink and a chat. Friendly staff, lots of indoor and patio seating and food available. Good selection of drink on the menu and prices reasonable. Everyone was having a good time. Well worth a visit.

we go here for happy hour and play chess- decent- burgers are the best bet.

Solid pub food option

By stasee000 |

We enjoyed our visit here. This is your typical pub menu, but the food was all very tasty, there were delicious cocktails, and the staff was friendly and helpful.

It's McMenamins, right?

By Mike L |

I first checked average, but then I decided that they all must be very good or I wouldn't keep going back. McMenamins always have consistently great food and good service if you have a lot of time to spare. My experience has been that if you happen to be the one who is getting the server's attention, you are good to go -- but since quick service is not high on their corporate priority list (not a fast food place for sure), I'm usually a little bit impatient.

Great neighborhood pub

By Vicki_conner |

We went here twice, once for drinks and once for dinner. The atmosphere is fun, the wait staff very friendly and efficient and the food was good.

Average food, good service.

By Marc D |

We are looking for a good local eatery for those evenings when we don’t feel like cooking. So we walked to the market Street Pub, another McMenamins restaurant. The décor is nice, themed with street signs from Europe. There is a nice patio for outdoor dining. The service is prompt and smiling and courteous. The food (Fish & Chips and Dilly Tuna Salad) is average. I can’t say it was bad but I can’t say it was great either. Wine list is decent, and the prices are competitive. We will give it another chance in a month or two and will post another review accordingly. We would like them to be better as the other restaurants nearby are quite pricey.

Wouldn’t recommend.

By Ktz |

Less than welcoming start. Very plain interior. No atmosphere. Wouldn’t recommend. Perhaps we missed something. Left quickly.

Nice quiet place for lunch

By Jim P |

Stopped here with friends for lunch before a visit to Portland Art Museum which is a few blocks away. Had a very nice tuna salad and couple of their Terminator stout beers. All in all a very nice lunch.

Great Atmosphere

By Eugene F |

McMenamins does a fabulous job of making each of their properties into something special. Even this little pub is decked out with the unique and imaginative touch that makes it worth visiting each of them without worrying about redundancy. Staff is always great and the food is delicious. This particular pub doesn't have the breadth of selection that some of the others do, but what they do have is very good, and the selections of beer are good. Since this is also a smaller facility, it's good to know when it is busy to avoid waiting. I will be back.

Good food, so-so service

By Lex F |

the food was good, the beer was pretty good. they took a long time to take our order and it wasn't crowded, i would go there again but not very excited about it. good bacon cheeseburger.

Great Pub Cuisine in a fun eclectic atmosphere

Loved the experience of eating here- food was great!! The service left a lot to be desired - A LOT but we were on vacation
