We ate at The Med twice on our stay at the La Valencia Hotel. The menu offers a diverse mix of sweet and savory breakfast options; essential when you have six to eight family members dining together. It's also nice that they have a variety of seafood plates, which you can't help but lean toward with the perfect views of the Pacific Ocean from the outdoor veranda tables.

We enjoyed our brunch and the terrace seating. Tables spaced well apart which gives a nice personal space for each group of diners. Service was prompt, polite and helpful.

This restaurant is absolutely fabulous and has some of the best service I’ve experienced recently! We arrived for Thanksgiving dinner, and I was warmly greeted by an assistant manager named Ivanna. She was kind and courteous, and even walked me to the restrooms when asked where they were. She then escorted me to my table because I didn’t know where my friend had been seated. I was assisted by a server named Amaya, who was gracious in answering all of my questions about the dish and drinks I ordered. She also explained the bill when I had a question and ensured that I thoroughly understood. Five star service!!

Dinner was excellent! split the salmon plate, appetizer, and banana foster ! would order any of them again we sat outside on the terrace at the best table closest to the bay. the marine was in and they graciously provided blankets. Our server, Stasis was exceptional! she was kind, attentive, knowledgeable, and just plain fun! Her personality made our experience top 10. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience Dawn and Jesn

The La Valencia is an institution in La Jolla. It is the ‘classiest’ and most expensive hotel and place to eat. But it is well worth the extra expense to get a feel for European luxury

Holy molly, this dish was a real winner. Not sure if they do it every day. I had it at their brunch session. The restaurant dining area is very plush and classy. Service is first class and the view is too die for. What more could you ask for??

My husband and I went here for our 8th Anniversary. We got drinks (The Pink Lady and a Moscow Mule) and a charcuterie board. We sat on the balcony and had a marvelous time. I would highly recommend for a splurge date.

My husband and I enjoyed a late lunch on the terrace at The Med. The decor looks like something straight from the Mediterranean - tile work, arches, wrought iron, etc. The view was truly beautiful! Our appetizers were stuffed leeks and prawns with chorizo. Again it was good, but not great, food. For our entrees we tried the gnocchi with beet purée (not a fan) and sea bass. My sea bass was beautifully cooked and was very good. No room for dessert for either of us. Expensive food where you are really paying for the view, not the food.

We started with a Mediterranean hummus plate, the best I've ever had. Encircling the hummus was a ring of homemade tzatziki, with a dollop of what appeared to be a remoulade of roasted red pepper, centered on a pool of olive oil. Later that evening we returned for dinner. I had some delicious fire roasted prawns and my wife ordered cauliflower as an entree! It was delicious (photo) and colorful.

On our last visit to La Jolla we discovered this hotel, La Valencia (or La V as it is informally known), and vowed to return another time to eat at one of its restaurants. So, on this trip we stopped by for lunch at "The Med." The hotel is a beautiful Mediterranean-style, historic hotel with loads of charm and beautifully decorated. The hostess for the dining areas seemed quite confused and distracted however and iffy on what to do. It was hard to get her attention. We asked to sit on the beautiful terrace with the great views but she indicated she didn't have a table for 2 there. So, she seated us in the dining room which is quite lovely but doesn't have quite the views, and she seated us in an awkward table next to the kitchen door even though the restaurant was virtually completely empty. Maybe because we weren't guests of the hotel this was protocol? Or maybe it was because we hadn't made a reservation, even though the place was mostly empty? Unfortunately, soon after being seated, loud noises and literal shaking of the room started that continued for long periods of time. The glasses on the table were shaking like we were on a cruise ship in the Pacific instead of on land. We were told by the waiter that they were constructing a new board room or something underneath the restaurant. This of course totally ruined the atmosphere. So, we left and walked back to the hostess to ask again for a table on the terrace. This time she found a table for us in a great spot overlooking La Jolla Cove. We both had sandwiches, "The Med" and "The Rachel." Both were excellent and came with a side salad and more than enough food for lunch. Although the prices are a tad expensive, given the views, ambiance, and quality of food, it is a fair price. Parking in this part of La Jolla is quite a challenge. The hotel does have a valet area that you can use but I believe he said it was $10 or $15 to park. We did manage to find a spot on the street about a block away. From the hotel entrance you can turn right after exiting and go down the hill and you are at La Jolla cove where all of the sea lions and seals hang out. If you turn left instead, there is a set of stairs that take you down to the cove as well if you prefer.

Celebrated my 71st birthday here with my mom, sister & hubby. Also in the restaurant were several other parties of birthday well wishers for various friends and families. The main dining room maintains its gracious atmosphere, interesting brunch menu, tasty, beautifully prepared food and attentive service, clearly demonstrating why it is such a popular location for special occasions. The La Valencia delivers!

Chic place with great food! The food here is delicious and the view combined with the architecture and friendliness of the staff put this place over the top. If I lived in la jolla, I would come here all of the time.

Disappointed with our visit to The Med on the first night of our recent stay at The Valencia. Find a cheaper alternative with better food.

Sadly we had dinner here when the sun was down. To make it spectacular, make sure the sun is up. We should have had a drink or lunch as the outdoor area has amazing views. As for dinner, this is a place for the gourmet. If you are a meat and potatoes person, this is not for you. We had the scallops and they were outstanding. Service was ok. Good wine selection. We do appreciate them remembering our birthdays with some special macaroons. Some entrees/appetizers with less lofty aspirations I think would help the restaurant appear to a broader audience. This is an expensive place.

The food was spectacular. The service was phenomenal. The atmosphere was beautiful. The location was magical. I highly recommend it.

We were walking around La Jolla trying to decide where we wanted to go for dessert and a night cap and popped into the MED, and we could not have been happier with our decision. We bumped into the chef as we were walking in and he was very friendly and personable. We chatted for a bit and he walked us in and asked the hostess to give us a nice table out on the patio. Shorty after being seated the Chef brought out a delicious dessert with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate on the plate! This was a very kind and unexpected gesture. Once we were seated we were greeted by Natilee our server. She was very personable, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. It was very refreshing to be in an upscale environment where the staff were all individuals and all had great and outgoing personalities. (This was very different than our dinner experience earlier in the night a little ways up the road) Natilee welcomed us in and made our experience special with her exceptional hospitality and really made the end of our celebration enjoyable. We will definitely be going back next time we are out in La Jolla, and highly recommend popping in and sitting in Natalee's section especially if you are into scotch as she has great scotch knowledge and recommendations. All in all it was a home run experience.

After exploring around La Jolla, we stopped by for an afternoon drink and sat on the balcony. Great view! Took our favorite picture of the week from here!

We had Sunday brunch. We enjoyed the ease of valet parking right in the front of the hotel. We were seated right away with reservations. Service was great! Food was excellent! Afterward we enjoyed a walk by the water. We will be back for sure!

My husband and I dined at The Med for a very special occasion and had a wonderful dining experience!l We were greeted and treated as special guests...from all the staff who served us! Kyle, Nick, Tia and Natalee were wonderful! The food was amazing..especially the Roasted Chicken brick and I LOVED the roasted cauliflower plate! Their food seems very innovative and creative..and delicious! Kudos to the chefs!! Since we were staying at The La Valencia Hotel ...we ate breakfasts and lunches there also! Every meal was tasty and delicious! We will definitely return!

We enjoyed breakfast on the terrace while on a recent trip to La Jolla. The terrace is a very lovely area -- while we were eating a late breakfast, there was actually a wedding going on (which we could overhear) down by the area below the terrace. The food is above average (although not necessarily spectacular). I had the eggs benedict and my significant other had pancakes. I went primarily to enjoy the terrace and its views, and I loved it! The service was excellent. Would definitely come here again.

the view is very nice even though the pull below is loud the food was alright the drink not at all well made was the worst drink I had in 60 years service needs to learn how and to be courteous told him did not like the drink he just shrugged shoulders and walked away did not recommend anything else or any offer at all then to top it off still charged 17 dollars for the horrible sip I had went for me birthday there and was very disappointed as the reviews on this place Is not at all what we received do not recommend

I came here for dinner. The menu was a 3 course menu. The food was okay. It was was over priced in my opinion. (More expensive than Nobu if that gives u an idea) but the drinks and the view are the best u can’t beat it. Service was wonderful as well

Was there in time just about half an hour before sunset. Great view of the Pacific Ocean and watched the sunset.... Service is pretty quick granted we ordered several rounds of calamari, fish tacos and ceviche. Will be back for more.

Wonderful Mojito and fresh lunch choices. Coupled with the view and that you are in La Jolla, this is a great spot for a beverage or bite. Service is attentive but not overbearing - delightful experience.

Wonderful place to take in the ocean views while enjoying drinks and appetizers on a chilly afternoon.

Food delightfully served by the wonderfully informative Natilee. Food very nicely served, beautifully presented in a lovely room.. shame there were so few people there, but we are in between seasons. Highly recommendable.

On Saturday evening The Med came highly recommended to us as the preferred local venue of choice. There are few places in the world where I have experienced such a grand ambiance matched with unparalleled ocean views. In addition to the beautiful environment, the service was excellent. Nick, the manager, treated us like royalty from the moment we stepped in. We were delighted by the live entertainment who apparently performs regularly in La Valencia's gorgeous courtyard. It added a fun twist to our elegant dining experience. Our sever Rebekah was extremely knowledge about the menu and she made excellent recommendations. Two entrees that stood out were the fire roasted spot prawns and the paella. Overall we had a marvelous time at The Med and it will be highly recommended to any of our friends and family traveling to the La Jolla area.

I had the fish tacos and my colleague had a cuban sandwich - excellent. Terrific flavors and presentation. Can't beat that gorgeous view.

We were guests at the hotel and we generally don’t eat at the hotel we stay but decided to make an exception as the scenery is so lovely. So glad we did. Food was amazing, fine dining and exquisite. I had the yellow tail followed by sea bass. My husband had the wagu tartare followed by “paella”. Wow. All the food was fantastic but the paella - or version of - was amazing. Service, food, wine and views were fantastic. And to top it all off there were 3 amazing singers. Best evening we could have hoped for. 5 stars! A must visit, especially when the swing/classical singers are on Saturday evenings!

If you need a hotel that has it all this one is it.Mandy our waitress was so sweet and caring for our girls trip and was so patient to all the questions we had. So happy she recommended the lobster Benedict to us best I have had. The chef knows exactly how to make all the flavors to match.

we had lunch here on Christmas day very good Food excellant service good and the table on the terrace overlooking the ocean was lovely

The view if you ask for outside table of inside with a view is great. The brunch menu is diverse, delicious and the service is the best.

While visiting San Diego we stopped by La Jolla for lunch and ended up here. We had a great lunch and the view from the patio and dining room were incredible. Skip the regular restaurants and stop by La Valencia Hotel!

We had lunch here for the first time and it was excellent. Sat outside and the food was delicious, service was superb, and view gorgeous

Great place with mediterranean specialties with a flare. The patio was lovely for dinner. Service was a little slow, but they were very busy and the setting made it all quite acceptable. The key lime popsicle is terrific.

Walked in around noon and was immediately seated on their small patio facing the beautiful blue, blue ocean. Palm trees. Gentle breeze. Very attentive service. Quiet. I ordered the baby kale caesar salad and a glass of pink sparkling wine. Perfectly dressed salad with light as air croutons, delicious bacon bits, and a perfectly poached egg on top. No rush. Take your time. Enjoy the atmosphere. No check until you ask for it. Old La Jolla at its best.

Overall, it felt like the food could be taken up a notch in deliciousness. The steak was good, although the potatoes could have been cooked more. The chicken was not as good, too dry. The Brussels spout appetizer was too salty. The patio for dining has a lot of wear and tear and could use some maintenance. With so many choices in La Jolla, we would prioritize other restaurants ahead of this one.

Nothing makes dining as special as ocean views, great food and attentive service. We loved everything about The Med (prices a bit high, though) and would highly recommend it. We ate on the veranda overlooking the pool (with ocean views), inside at the window overlooking the park and ocean and down by the pool. Each equally enchanting.

The interior of this restaurant reminds one of a grand building in Europe. It is elegant, friendly and uplifting. The ocean views are wonderful - depending on which table you have. Currently, there is limited seating for lunch. It is primarily on a rather narrow terrace. Most of the tables with two seats allow one person to have a water view, while the other person faces away from the water, with no view. They will give a table with four seats to two people. We had reservations for two, but had to wait for over an hour to have a table with two chairs facing the ocean (it was a table with four chairs). (There were several tables, where the diners had finished their food, but remained seated for a half hour to an hour before leaving. Perhaps the hotel should tell diners they can have a table for up to two hours - or maybe for an hour and a half. There should be a time limit.) It was worth the wait to eat there. Our lobster sandwiches (which come with delicious French fries or a salad) were superb. The view made it absolutely enchanting. The servers were friendly and attentive. Dining at this restaurant is a wonderful experience - just don't be in a rush. Highly recommendable!

We had a small group here for dinner and sat on the outside patio. The venue was great and the service excellent. The menu looked terrific, but most of the entrees were just average. They like to overcook filet's so be careful if you order one. The paella was probably the best choice among the various options.

My daughter took me here for a Father’s Day brunch, and we sat on the back terrace with the beautiful view of the ocean and the amazing architecture of this beautiful place. However, come for the food as I had one of the best breakfast shrimp Chilaquiles that I’ve ever had in my life. With a generous six or seven Mexican shrimp, plus ice cream scoop sized sides of guacamole, and sour cream, the combination of the spicy sauce was just delicious. The service was excellent with plenty of refills on water, iced tea and Diet Coke. My daughters mahi-mahi sandwich was absolutely delicious. I occasionally come here for their beautiful room and excellent lunches. As a local, I just wish I had more opportunity to eat here as every time I have, it’s been extraordinary.

I took my daughter-in-law to lunch at the La Valencia Hotel on a beautiful summer day. The view was great from our window table. She had salmon on her salad, I had the crab cakes appetizer which was two, tasty 2 1/2" cakes on a nice mixed greens salad. It was enough for lunch unless you are really hungry. Our waiter comped us a trio of mini cakes - all delicious, for the birthday celebration. Our waiter was very attentive to our needs even though the Kardashians, who were seated at a long table near us, were being filmed. The valet parking in front makes it really easy to slip in and out.

Try the waffles with orange faster. This was unique and we went back several times during our stay. Service is great and the view of course is incredible

Visited Med Restaurant for a birthday party, service was less than ideal, food was overcooked and cold. Extremely expensive restaurant, great view that's about the only good comment, o and the entertainment good singer

The meal was well presented but tasteless for our second visit even though we made it very clear last time that the meal was very bland when we dined/stayed here Our three main courses were " lacking seasoning " as one of our party said. The manager was very apologetic but said others had not complained. Most people walk away never to return. We took the time to criticise constructively. We haven dined at the Bennalong at the Opera House in Sydney, the Ritz in London, the little snail in Paris. At those establishments We were overwhelmed with not only the location and service but also the cuisine " A situation you walk away from is that you accept" we did not accept thie meals at the Valencia are the best they could provide. We do thank the management for listening

Enjoyed a fabulous brunch on the patio following a beautiful wedding at La Valencia hotel; wedding dinner was also delicious!

Beautiful hotel and dining area. Love the decor and nice views from the patio and dining area. We went here for lunch. Valet parking is $18 and they do not validate. Staff was not that friendly and service could use improvement. When your server walks past your table several times and doesn’t look to see if you need more drinks or anything else. I had to go request the blankets from the host after I requested it from the waitress and she didn’t do it. Food was delicious. We really enjoyed the poke nachos and hummus and naan. The La V burger was also good and so were the truffle fries and aioli dip. The turkey avocado club could use improvement. There was a piece of bacon that was rock hard and I couldn’t bite into it. Overal, we had a nice lunch and would come here again. P.s. Service could improve from the host, waitress, front desk and valet.

This was our second time eating here and it didn't disappoint. The service was a little slow but ok. The food was excellent and the view from the patio is perfect...especially at sunset. Great live music!

This is great place for food, drinks, music and taking in the Pacific Coast! The dinner menu offers enough to make your decision difficult. However, having Aaron as a waiter, he was able to describe the dish and make recommendations! It was such an enjoyable experience on the outdoor patio, I came back for live music in the bar the next day. Tyler was working the bar, and custom crafted a terrific cocktail (or 2) ! The live music on Thursday just added to the overall experience.

Because it was a Sunday? Because we asked to sit inside? Because it was early (5:30)? There was certainly a lack of communication within the system but the waitress was not at fault. It took at least 15 min before somebody noticed that we had no server (we were alone in the inside restaurant.) When she finally arrived it got better but still some communication problems e.g. a course was attempted to be served when the dishes of the previous course were still on the table. The second wine as delivered but nobody to open the bottle. The food is very good and innovative and high marks for an all Vegan menu for those who require it. The stuffed leeks are interesting but you need a steak knife to cut them because undercooked leeks are tough. Deserts were also very innovating and excellent. We may try it some other day

While visiting from Canada we stopped by this restaurant on a recommendation for lunch. Not only was it the best meal of our honeymoon in California, but the staff were very friendly and the ocean views were spectacular! When visiting La Jolla dining at this restaurant is an absolute must. Highly recommend.

There cheeseburger was one of the best I have ever had , really good beef! Great service and ambiance! Will go back soon!

Did not stay at the hotel but ate at the restaurant. The food was great and very reasonable. I especially liked the brussel sprout appetizer My friend was married there last year so we went back to the beautiful view. The staff was very friendly. I would love to stay there sometime,

The hostess said the wait would be 35-40 minutes. We waited an hour and 15 minutes for a table. We waited in the lounge in the meantime. I ordered 2 lemonades for the kids while we waited. They brought them out in child cups and charged me $15. I ordered the turkey avocado BLT which was on cold toasted bread that must have been toasted hours ago. My daughter ordered a burger and there was a piece of hair on it. I have to say I would never go back again. Poor service, average food and it's expensive.

I'd give it a 4.5 on the scale of 1 - 5. Went for breakfast, nice menu and great food. A bit pricey, but you are in a luxury hotel. Great view and great service. I'll be back.

A couple of nights ago, I had a chance to stop by The Med with some friends to try out the new menu unveiled that evening. We were greeted with lively music in the bar area, and were promptly seated on the terrace, as requested, within minutes of our arrival. A quick glance at the new menu made us realize that it would be difficult to choose from the mouthwatering selections. Ultimately we decided to leave it up to the chef to send out dishes that would best capture the new menu. As the dishes came out, so did Chef Alex with mouthwatering descriptions, fueling our desire to devour each one! The new menu provides a distinguished balance between the historic Pink Lady and modernly splendid cuisine. Some of the dishes included in our dinner were the Hokkaido Scallop Carpaccio, Crab & Grilled Avocado, Cod Tenderloin with Aji Armarillo Puree, among other delectable dishes!!! Go check it out and say hello to Chef Alex!! p.s. save room for dessert!!!

My son and I enjoyed breakfast at the Med. The food was delicious and the views were terrific. Our waiter was very pleasant. It was quite enjoyable.

This is THE PLACE to be in La Jolla, esp. for breakfast or lunch. Lovely ocean views while you dine.

I had a lovely lunch with my sweetheart and her grandmother yesterday. We enjoyed the amazing view from inside the lounge as we were there on a cooler day. Amazing trio of Mediterranean dips and wonderful salmon blt. Thanks to Natilee for the wonderful service!!! Her attention to our lunch needs in general, and our need for IPA and cava in particular were only matched by her stunning smile.

My partner and I decided to check this place out today for lunch and it definitely did not disappoint. The view way incredible, the wine selection had something for everyone, and our server Mandy was friendly, knowledgeable, and she made our experience amazing. The Crab BLTA is delicious and the fries that come with it were perfectly crispy. I will be back!

We had not been to the restaurant since it was called simply The Med. We knew it as the Mediterranean Room in years past. So we were expectant of fine food in an exceptional setting. Well, the view is still exceptional. The food, however, was underwhelming. For a Saturday brunch, one of our party ordered Eggs Benedict and another ordered a Cobb Salad. Now, there is little unusual about either order. Standard American fare. The Benedict came with a thick slice of ham, not the usual Canadian bacon. OK, it is what it is. The Cobb was likewise OK, but it seemed thrown together, but without the finesse one would expect for a $21.00 salad. So, the view is great, the atmosphere pseudo-refined, but the food, well, expensive but average.

Best customer service ever…on every level! The gentlemen who greeted us were very friendly and welcoming. Then our hostess Gabby remembered we’d asked for a view, and came back to move us closer when a closer table opened up. Our server Mandy was totally awesome. She was attentive and helpful. Even when we were the ones who made the mistake on our meal, she had it re-made. Then when we mentioned the cut of meat was less than ideal, she very graciously went to her manager, and they actually comp’d it! Thank you all so much for a wonderful experience in La Jolla!

I reserved a table to catch up with a longtime friend over dinner. The location was convenient, and the indoor dining room seemed a good setting for this on a cool day. I hadn't really given much thought to the quality of the food. What a surprise! The food here is excellent. I had the grilled octopus followed by the stuffed leek. Both were superior. The octopus was especially succulent and tender. My friend had the pork chop, and it was also beautifully prepared and delicious. Great food and ambiance are a winning combo. To top it off, Mark was a fantastic waiter, professional, prompt, and friendly with a good knowledge of the menu. I can wholeheartedly recommend this place.

If you are looking for a decent brunch place with a view and don't want to wait 30 minutes or longer for a table, book a table here. Views on the balcony are very nice and the coffee is fresh. Menu has excellent selection of just about anything you would want for brunch including very good omelettes, chicken sausage, eggs Benedict and waffles. Expect to spend $60 per couple plus tip. And make reservations for outside seating or prepare to wait.

Fabulous server Johan!!!!!!!! Professional, accommodating and personable!! Excellent food.... pairing of flavors/ingredients fantastic!! Wonderful way to celebrate our 33rd anniversary!!!

Great place to stop for an afternoon drink to escape the bustle outside. The bar is very stylish and the open configuration keeps it pleasantly fresh while offering wide open views of the jewel that is La Jolla. The staff are professional and friendly. Don't miss it.

Four of us enjoyed dinner at The Med. While the setting was great and the food was good, the service we received from JoHan was extra-ordinary. He made our dinner the most enjoyable dinner we had during our week in San Diego. My recommendation is go there and ask for JoHan.

Visited this restaurant with four kids ages 10-12, had no idea how posh it was until we walked in but the girls were so excited. Turned out that the patio was full, so I expected to either have a long wait or be told they were full. Wrong! they took us into the main restaurant and gave us an amazing window table. I felt bad because as a former waitress I knew that we weren't a great table - no alcohol, kids sharing, but nope we got the full on white linen service - which the girls loved. The food was wonderful but it was the experience and attention from the manager and the waiter that made it so special. Total class.

Our family all enjoyed the good food & views. The service was great & server really knew his wines! Valet team was awesome too!

Went in simply for dessert and coffee one evening. Waiter was smug. He would ask if we needed anything and tell the Hispanic gentleman near us to do whatever we asked. The dessert we allowed him to talk us into was one of the worst items I have ever tried. We tipped the Hispanic gentleman more than our waiter.

We had a beautiful brunch birthday celebration. The food was outstanding, as always. Two of us had the Kale and Goat Cheese Frittata amd twp had the Cobb Salad with shrimp. Service was excellent as well. We sat in the patio area out front, where it has a beautiful mediterranean feel. For our birthday girl, we decided on a Belgian Waffle. It did not disappoint!

Excellent ambiance and decor, great food, lousy service. Hostess was missing for 15 min. On a Saturday evening at 7:00, then a busboy seated us. Halfway through dinner, a busboy asked if he could clear our plates but we were still eating. Then a kitchen staff delivered a dish without kindness or class. Finally, when finished, we waited another fifteen minutes for them to clear our dishes. I’d rate the service about as low of a rating there is.

We had two hours to spend for lunch, and it took that long to be seated at our reserved table, get menus and receive our lunch orders. The food is typical beach hotel standard, but the location and views make everything worth while. Two glasses of wine cost as much as lunch, which was not inexpensive either. Plan a pricey lengthy afternoon with gorgeous views to make up for any other expectations. It's a stunning property with pure California views - we will be coming back in spite of the slow service.

We came to eat here for breakfast on the patio, overlooking the ocean. Our Eggs Benedict was the best I have tasted in a long time. Price was about $16. It was enough for my hubby & I to share. The side salad was a perfect compliment. Great service. It's a charming place with just enough ocean breeze taking you away from your worries.

We need a quick bite to eat and have enjoyed the outside sining at The Med. We had guests with us so wanted to treat them to cocktails and a bite. AS I stated in another review great lunch, warm heaters, yummy treats and an enjoyable afternoon. Thank you again for a lovely afternoon

Having a good meal with a great view on the ocean is what you need in the morning to start your day.

We often stop by and sit outside La Valencia and have coffee and sometimes a light meal. Good friendly service and very entertaining and relaxing watching the World go by.

I took my husband and parents to the high tea at the La Valencia/Mediterranean Room for their 49th wedding anniversary on Friday. We had such a great, relaxing afternoon. The food was amazing, something about a holiday tea is extra special. The sandwiches were tasty, the cucumber mint was surprisingly light and refreshing and my mom loved the chicken salad. The cranberry orange scones were light and paired perfectly with the Devonshire cream and jam. We had four teas to choose from (green or black) all complimented the sweets and savories quite well. I must say though my favorite tier was the sweets tier. The egg nog cream puffs were light and airy and the perfect hint of egg nog. There were also mini gingerbread cupcakes, cardamom butter spritz cookies , and the amazing chocolate mint macaroons. We also enjoyed bubbly with our tea. The staff was so wonderful, everyone was so nice and very attentive. Mario was great and was always checking in on us to make sure we had everything we needed. Michelle was awesome too (not our table but always super nice as well) and Ryan came by and chatted and asked us how everything was an see we talked about the teas and other things. Everyone was so wonderful. We also appreciated that he mentioned gratuity was included which isn't always told at other teas we've been to. Everything from the view, the food and the staff at the Mediterranean were simply perfect and amazing. Plus a portion of proceeds from the tea are donated to local Rady Children's Hospital. High tea at the La Valencia/Mediterranean Room is $95/pp and is a must whether you are in the area or traveling from out of town.

we were staying at the hotel and so for our first night there being tired we decided to just eat at the hotel. I had a fish dinner and my husband ordered a beet steak really without reading the entire meal, he focoused on the steak part, and was surprised to get an actual large beet. we had 2 glasses of house wine and the tab was $215.00. very expensive for a beet.

The only thing that compared to the stunning ocean view was the fantastic service. The dishes were very good and the cocktails were exceptional. What a great way to spend an evening!

We ate here on our final night in LaJolla after a conference and had an incredible time with each other and the staff. The view was breathtaking, the waitstaff took exceptional care of us, and the food sealed the deal for a perfect night. We tried several appetizers (crab cakes and summer watermelon salad are delicious!) and entrees from vegetarian and gluten free picks to savory and mouthwatering brined prime rib of pork. The blistered brussel sprout sides are yummy to the very last bite. Don't forget to save room for dessert! The carrot cake and creme brulee were worth every last bite! My personal favorite was the muddle blackberry cocktail that was recommended by our waiter.

Fabulous food, gorgeous ocean view, beautiful dinning room, romantic piano music, and impeccable service from Johan. It was the perfect way to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We couldn't be more pleased.

We had brunch here, out on the patio. Although we had make a reservation and requested an table outside, we ended up very far from any sea views. The day was beautiful and the breezes felt good. Our server seemed overworked and was a bit absent. The food was so so and very pricey. Since it was our first time in La Jolla, I would call this choice a miss.

The food was so delicious and with large servings that I kept eating way past when I should have :) Absolutely gorgeous building as well. The service was spotty though and although it was steady, I wouldn't have thought it was busy enough to warrant the lack of check ins. Our server took our drink order, brought them, took our food order, and then we didn't see her again until we were done and someone else had removed our plates. We definitely would have had a second round of drinks but we couldn't get anyone's attention, so decided to just finish and get the bill. Was still a really enjoyable brunch though and would probably go back.

Having given our stay at the La Valencia resort 5 stars, I have decided to review the restaurant separately. We had breakfast in the resort the two days we stayed there. We wouldn’t have gone back the second day, but it was pouring rain outside so we did not want to go out. Day one: Server Lisa was pleasant, but did not go out of her way with any kind of service, other than taking our order and dropping the check. I had to ask for extra cup of coffee as she walked by several times while my cup was empty. The bus person finally noticed and brought more coffee. Wife had Oatmeal which was hot and delicious. I ordered the Carne Asada Benedict. The flavor was delicious, but everything on the plate was cold, from the potatoes to all ingredients on the Benedict. Seemed like everything had come from the steam table. The salad on the plate makes no sense ( and the few people in the Dining Room did not eat theirs as well ). So overall, with only about 12 people in the DR at that time, food and service were not acceptable. Day Two: Edgar, our server, was excellent! He checked with us several times. Coffee was always refilled. I told him my food was cold the day beforehand, specifically the potatoes. I ordered Eggs with Sausage and Potatoes. Yes, the potatoes were HOT, but the sausages were cold, probably again directly from the steam table.Such a shame. again did not eat the side salad ( maybe if it had dressing on it), but I did not. Again, the very few persons we saw in the DR also did not eat it. Wife had blueberry pancakes, which looked great and were hot. My dismay is the menu specifically states “maple syrup”, but alas, it was the same high fructose corn syrup you would receive in a Denny’s! What happened to truth in menu in California? No camomile tea available also. The last little bit, although maybe petty, was the USA Today at 8:30 in the morning, was from the day before. Hopefully, the resort will understand what a great outlet overlooking the ocean that they have here. You could be a truly fabulous Coastal resort, but truly missing the boat on F&B. I could not recommend persons staying at the resort, or locals, to have their breakfast here. It seems that no management checks on this outlet in the early morning hours. I could forgive if this restaurant was packed with a waiting line, but only serving a very few persons for the breakfast period it was not acceptable.

We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast at the Mediterranean Room - La Valencia. It was truly delightful, beautifully decorated, and overlooking Ellen Browning Scripps Park and La Jolla Cove!!! I had the Lobster Benedict and my partner had the Mediterranean Omelette. From start to finish, the service was excellent, the servers were attentive through the entire meal. CONSTANTLY REFILLING OUR WATER GLASSES.

What a great place for brunch beautiful views rooms and food.Great staff and menu great for a special occasion or just brunch with friends and family

We ate the Crab Cake BLT and it was excellent! Definitely an order again. The shrimp cocktail and sauces were very good. We sat outside on the terrace and view of the Pacific was awesome.

Recently stayed at hotel; enjoyed fabulous breakfasts on terrace! Loved the eggs benedict !!! Great service.

Juliea quickly resolved a mixup in our table reservation. As soon as we asked for her help, she instantly fixed everything to our complete satisfaction. Wow. No argument, just, "yes, let me make you happy." First class manager, first class server, at a beautiful first class La Jolla landmark resort, with a world class view. Don't miss La Valencia. Long time San Diego natives love coming to La Valencia!

We were staying at Valencia and on our first night ate at the Med on their terrace. The view is stunning and service impeccable. My husband ordered the flatbread for a app. It had the makings of a good dish but dough was too soft and a bit bland. My crab cake sandwich was delectable. The Hamachi was good as well. A great spot for a view with drink. If you are walking around La Jolla this is a must visit.

Spontaneity at its finest if you’re looking for something to take you back but catapult you to wow! A truly quaint, airy atmosphere; wonderful ambience & service. The flatbread with wild arugula, goat cheese, capers and prosciutto was a perfect compliment to the 1926 Champagne Cocktail. Note to self: Save room for the carrot cake!

Very disappointed in the service--breakfast took over an hour and we ordered right away. Kids were antsy and hungry. Food was average at best.

Christmas dinner was a disappointment. People make reservations for Christmas dinner yet The Med was unprepared for the diners that came. They were out of filets and grouper, soup was cold and staff was spread thin (though all were pleasant and doing the best they could). Salmon (the grouper replacement) was served unimaginably with what looked like whatever vegetables were left in the kitchen. A $200.+ waste of money- certainly not a special holiday meal.

I really wanted to like the food at this restaurant. The view was amazing as well as the service. The spinach salad was inedible I took one bite and the dressing grated like mayonnaise with gasoline. The vegetarian couscous was just ok . The hotel is so beautiful it’s a shame that the food is bad.

We ate at The Med several times as we were staying at the hotel. We ate on the outside patio that has gorgeous views of the ocean and the ambience is just lovely, very romantic. The breakfasts and dinners were both delicious and the service was excellent. Loved the Halibut!

Beautiful setting overlooking the La Valencia pool and La Jolla cove area. Service was flawless and food was great. The Rachel was very good, Med Spreads awesome and the side of fries with a couple glasses of Rose made for a perfect lunch.

If you get a table with a view, that is what you’re paying for. Service was fine, but I expect my coffee to be hot and my cup refilled at brunch. Food was OK. I have eaten in restaurants in nearly 60 countries, I have never been told it was time to leave because they needed the table — when there were at least two dozen empty tables in the establishment. Arrived promptly for our 10:30 am reservation. Table wasn’t ready. At 12:05 pm, the hostess came to the table to tell us our time was up. Huh? Never have I ever.

It is worth making a reservation for when they first open as the seating choices are more abundant -- wonderful in any case!!!

Was in La Jolla for Christmas with friends, great setting in a cool historic building and that is where the pleasurable part of our dinner experience ended. I truly felt bad for our servers as they were totally unprepared for any amount of people to dine in the restaurant. I had my heart set on having a Filet, they were out... Fresh fish? out.... attempted to substitute salmon, no thanks. The food we did receive was sloppy and tasteless. I knew it was Christmas so we didn't raise a fuss in order to ruin the staff's evening, our friends were quite embarrassed for bringing us. We won't be back.

Four of us ate here for the Mother's Day Buffet. The table was on the balcony overlooking the ocean. Service was outstanding and we were made to feel really special. The buffet was excellent with raw oysters, crab claws, shrimp, Quiche, short rib benedict, and both savory and sweet crepes There was so much more, all fresh and delicious. We spent 3 hours talking and eating and just had the best time for a special Mother's Day.

My girlfriend and I discovered this place while exploring La Jolla. As we walked in we were immediately greeted by I believe it was a manager Tim, he recognized her on a date and showed us to a very romantic table overlooking the ocean our waiter was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all questions I had about the way the food was prepared which is something I like to do having a culinary background. I would recommend this restaurant for anybody who would like to have great food with a romantic night out. We shared the scallops which were cooked perfectly had a cheese plate for an appetizer and some prawns which were delicious they came with shell on so kept a great amount of flavor but was a mess to get apart

Had an impromptu brunch on the terrace at the Mediterranean Room after spending the morning at the Cove checking out the wildlife. The gardens and terrace area were a bit Positano-like with beautiful flowers and foliage to enjoy. We even got to watch a hummingbird flitting around while we dined. My husband and I ate soooo much food and it was generally pretty delicious. We got the brunch board, a salad, and the cinnamon roll as well as some cocktails. Coffee was delicious too. Prices were up there, but the service was great, the ambiance memorable, and I would certainly return the next time we are in La Jolla.

To start with the atmosphere was nice. The Med advertised as a Mediterranean seafood restaurant. They only offered one seafood item which was Salmon. They only offer 5 entree items in total. My wife had the Salmon, I had a porterhouse pork chop. My wife’s salmon was undercooked. My pork chop was dry. My wife had also ordered a spinach salad which was very underwhelming. They advertised it as a strawberry spinach salad it had 3 slices of strawberries. Finally, we ordered dessert which was a fresh baked donut with cream and peaches. It had the texture of a store bought donut with peach preserves over it. My wife and I frequent fine restaurants on a normal basis. This restaurant charges like a fine restaurant but is far from it.

Ordered the special of jumbo prawns and scallops - truly a wonderful dish - everything cooked perfectly - the chef came over to the table to check on everything - that's always special - the wine and the service were also excellent - the waiter was fun and friendly - would easily revisit -

What more could one ask? A perfect day, looking over the Pacific, with good friends. A long-overdue return to one of my favourite places. Splendid Cosmopolitans!

Christmas Lunch for 16 was planned months in advance. We had two tables of 8. As a guest we were not welcomed by staff. A waitress was pouring champagne into glasses on the table and was asked to either give the guests the glasses or not to pour. She told us we were 5 minutes late. We sat down to a first course of cold cauliflower soup that wasn't good and a cold half of a cheese and lobster sandwich. The cheese cold and hard. Awful. We had a salad of greens and fruit that all would have fit into a 1 cup container. You could have chicken shrimp or salmon on top. The salmon was a 3" finger size and not good, the chicken was too hard and dry to cut and the shrimp smelled like it had turned. All in all there were 16 prominent women of La Jolla that will never return.

We were on our way to another restaurant and were walking by - the valet was very friendly and asked if he could help us - we hesitated & LOVED the look of the hotel, so asked to look at a menu. The hostess was wonderfully accommodating - got us a seat (although foggy - so limited view of the water) by the window with a view. The table was wonderful, seats comfortable and the atmosphere top notch. Our waiter Fredrick was the best ever. Very appropriate (we were three friends who had not seen each other together for 13 years). He made some awesome suggestions. Quiche (like not any of us had eaten before - and 2 of us are foodies). I had the lobster brioche - the lobster was full of meat and the brioche was light and tasty. The topping on the meal was the dessert - we were celebrating my birthday. Thank you Fredrick for an amazing meal, food, timing of you checking on us all the way to dessert. we will be back (when I come back to visit from Dallas). thank you.

The food was fantastic but the waitress was incredible. Natilee explained each option and the specials in such exquisite detail that it made it hard for me to settle on one dish. I really recommend this place first because of the level of service and for the quality of the food.

We went here when we arrived at the Valencia Hotel for our anniversary. I had the crab burger BLT, hold the bacon. It was delicious!

Always Great Service .. Best Views .. Great Food ... They always have a wonderful homemade soup !! Fresh Seafood .. Classic yet comfortable , Valet parking is available right out front .. Do not forget to try some of the desserts !!!

We did not stay at La Valencia, unfortunately. But we did pop in for breakfast on the terrace overlooking the bay. Such a romantic setting! The view was stunning! It was hot but the ocean breeze took care of that. Both had the Eggs Benny. The eggs were poached to perfection. Service was impeccable. We were not rushed. Highly recommend!

Wonderful food and please ask for Luis. Exceptional service is the norm here!! Epicurean delights that you remember after the meal over and the service that is state of the art!!

This restaurant is part of the La Valencia Hotel where we are staying and was recommended by the concierge. The starters were ok but not spectacular, we had the Paella which our waiter endorsed as being the best dish on the menu; it was nothing like a paella but mostly chicken and rice with some seafood. The muscles tasted off and smelt vile, and when I asked the waiters opinion he said they were fine and that is what they were like in La Jolla! We then were offered a desert on the house so we shared the creme brûlée which was like a bowl of creme soup with a lid on it. Truly awful and all very expensive! Nice hotel but steer clear of the food!

I was taught as a young person to not say much if I could not be positive. The restaurant exemplifies prior training View. Spectacular. A "ten" all the way. Absolutely beautiful Hostess. Charming and went out of her way to be helpful. So impressed from Ethiopia and speaks several languages. Service. Won't say anything Food quality. Good. For the location, priced well and tasty Atmosphere. Great The service and the food prep brought down the numbers. Everything else was good

We had a lovely patio buffet between Beethoven concerts at The Med last night. Perfect hot dish choices, crispy meatballs, roast chicken) salad with or without dressing, rigatoni and tortellini with optional Alfredo sauce. Champagne and wine included for the concert attendees. Something for everyone including Weight Watcher me and hubby. This morning breakfast inside on a brisk spring day. My hubby said his breakfast Denver omelette as a scramble, perfectly simple roast red potatoes, perfect #Chewey sourdough toast, heavenly Austrian Seville orange marmalade, a toss of mixed lettuces and Illy coffee, was the best breakfast, and best plating and preparation he has ever had for breakfast. Simple takes the gold!

Went to La Mer restaurant for Saturday birthday brunch. They had very loud construction going on. They should have told us before we committed. After we complained they moved us to outside patio. Then they ignored us. Will not return.

Brunch at La Valencia is a well rounded experience. It is hard to say which is more wonderful, the food (brunch board and Belgian waffles), the views/decor, or the service? All is in perfect harmony!

I threw a party for my husband's birthday,( with 30 friends), 4 years ago at the Tower at La Valencia and it was over the top! The last event at the Tower before they remodeled the entire hotel. The hors d'eouvres and all of the food and the view and ambiance, along with the jazz combo I hired, were all outstanding. So we went back for Sunday Brunch a few months back. It was not a buffet, but off the menu and they had a guy playing the guitar. Both my husband and I found the food lacking, the service slow. It was not fun. We have to go back soon, because before, we only have had great experiences at the hotel. I put my daughter and her husband up at the hotel once when they visited from NY, and they loved their room and said they had the best beds ever, even though the room was small. So for the brunch only they get a 3 rating and for everything else, a 12!

A step back in time at this once classy hotel. Location is unbeatable for La Jolla. Room was nice, upgraded for anniversary with complementary champagne.

On Sunday, February 4, I attended La Valencia Hotel with my family. It was a pretty calm environment, busy enough to tell that there are regulars who come here, but not so busy where it was overwhelming (this is important to us as overstimulation is a thing for some of our family.) Despite being born and raised in San Diego, this was our first time here. We were promptly seated, and our server, Ryan, immediately tended to us. He handed us menus, asked us what we would like to drink, and went off. We had only several minutes before he quickly had our drinks out before us and then took our order. My mother and I ordered a salad and our entree and then two meals for my children. Ryan was incredibly prompt, and the meals were prepared fast; in fact, Ryan communicated immediately that while he had put our salads down, the kids' meals would be served soon, too. Within minutes, my kids were happy children with food in front of them. I've been to many places where the kids are hungry while adults eat their salads or soups, or it comes too soon, but the timing was almost perfect. We had enough time to eat our salad and enjoy our main course with the kids. But of course, service is only one part of the experience. The food, especially for a birthday celebration, was fantastic. I had steak and chicken on my plate, which was cooked exactly as I requested - medium well. It was tender and seasoned well, and the chicken was incredibly moist. It fell apart as I ate it and paired well with the mashed potatoes. The kids' food was great, too. The macaroni and cheese exceeded expectations as this location was a prime spot; I anticipated boxed macaroni and cheese. This was obviously made in the kitchen, and my daughter enjoyed it. My son, who is one of the pickiest eaters you'll ever meet, loved every piece of chicken and french fry (for the record, he is one of the few kids who doesn't like french fries on the regular.) My mom mentioned that it was my birthday, and though we ordered a dessert, Ryan surprised us with a great little birthday note (made of chocolate) on the plate. Throughout, though, he was also very attentive, glancing at the table and checking in. I heard him interacting with guests throughout and near us, and he is a welcoming and humorous server who clearly wants his guests to leave satisfied. The overall experience was fantastic. I can wholeheartedly say that we will eat here again and may become regulars. I'm surprised that I've missed this throughout my time in San Diego, but I will absolutely recommend this location to anybody who comes to San Diego or is already from the San Diego area.

Well we came to The Med expecting a 5 star restaurant service and ambiance, and they don't have it; the outside patio that service casual breakfast and lunch service the dinner with no changes at all, the tables are glass patio not well clean, for category of hotel and the prices, they probably can do better and have staff to change the aprox 10 tables for something for formal and nice for dinner; the service lac of attendees to serve the wine when you glass is empty, or refill your water; is not nice that they serve on the same kind of china your appetizer and main dish; the only think that save the Restaurant is the flavor of the food and presentation of the same(aside of the china), on that we did not have anything to said, all the food it was very well done and good!!!, other think very sad is that it was our 16 wedding Anniversary and we make the reservation making the note of that on nobody, even tell us congrats😒

Delicious lunch and cocktails. Attentive service , amazing selections 5 star service in the dining room. Heaters are on in the outside should you need the. A lovely afternoon Great location to walk around town. Cute shops ice cream and yummy coffee

Hidden gem inside La Valencia Hotel. Stunning sunset views and a great atmosphere. We had Rebekah as a waitress and she was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The food was extremely well prepared, had great presentation, and tasted fantastic. Highly recommend this amazing restaurant. You cannot find better views, great atmosphere, and stunning food anywhere else!

I loved this place. I attended a wedding on the beach and dinner was at the Med in the La Valencia. Likely the most enjoyable meal I have had in the last few years. Incredible service, amazing food and the atmosphere was intoxicating. I would go again in a heart beat. Cannot give a higher recommendation.

We visited La Jolla for the day and decided to stay for early evening dinner after watching a beautiful sunset We chose the hotel la Valencia and it was a lovely experience Dinner is served at 5.30pm so we went to their lounge bar with large windows offering lovely bay views. They serve a very good Irish coffee for $12 each Dinner was delightful sitting by the fireplace We enjoyed cream of mushroom soup with warm bread We both had steak mignon served with gratin potatoes and broccoli. The steak came on a tray presented as a tree trunk! A slice of a log. Interesting touch. We divided a dessert of ice cream and finished the meal with coffee. We choose an Italian Allegrini red wine to accompany our meal The service throughout was excellent, professional and very warm and welcoming. The manager of the hotel visited each table to welcome and speak to diners a very nice touch. Highly recommended Price tag of $230 approx we found value for money Thank you La Valencia for making our last night in San Diego a good one

This is not a review of the restaurant, as I did not eat there. My husband and I stopped for a drink at the bar after walking the water front on a hot day. I have never before reviewed a bar, but this experience was so disappointing. It was early-ish, about 5pm, on a weekday, and the bartender was apathetic. It is a beautiful room, with a stunning view of the ocean, so I wanted a cocktail. I did not see anything on the menu I wanted to try, so I asked for a cosmopolitan. My husband had a beer (wish I had been so wise). A cosmopolitan is not a difficult drink to make, and it can be delicious if made with some care. I did ask for Tito's, which is not an expensive vodka. The bartender splashed in an adequate amount, followed by an ounce of triple sec (not the more expensive cointreau), a sqeeze of a lime wedge (should have been 1/2 a lime) and a bunch of cranberry juice. The glass was not chilled (disappointing). It was a just ok drink. And we did not get a word of conversation from the bartender until he delivered the check. I am unhappy to get the smiles and chattiness when its time to figure out the tip. And I dislike being overcharged ($16 when most of the mixed drinks on the menu were $12). Wish I had had the beer.

A few of us skipped into this awesome bar at Sunset one evening while the saxophone player and his one-man band sang Billy Joel. We all enjoyed some nice cocktails and wine, and the ambience of the place is simply marvelous! The perfect nightcap after a wonderful dinner in this amazing little seaside village. We had an adorable waitress and a wonderful few hours listening to the music and enjoying the beautiful views. Highly recommend this place!

I wanted chocolate and coffee. Order mole dessert. Waiter called it "deconstructed " cake. I did not like it and would not recommend. I admit when I go to a restaurant specifically for dessert, my expectations are high. But I didn't waste the calories on this one and didn't even finish the $11 dessert. I'm sure if "constucted" it could fit into 3 bites. Waiter was impatient and not very hospitable.

I enjoyed a Sunday brunch with a wedding party group. The food, service and atmosphere was fantastic. We ate on the outside patio and of course the weather was perfect. Everything I had from the quiche to the yogurt was especially good.

Delicious lunch overlooking the Pacific. Friendly staff and wonderful service made it most enjoyable.

I was incredibly disappointed with the Med at the Hotel Valencia. My friends raved about this place and took me there for a birthday brunch there on 22 April 2017. Immediately, I was disappointed when I arrived. Although, we had a reservation we had to wait and the host was not very informative of why I had to wait. When I was seated, it took ages for my server to arrive even after I asked the bus boy to send her over to me as I wanted to order a glass of champagne for myself and my friends. I ordered the quiche of the day (tomato spinach) and when it arrived it was delicious but sans the potatoes noted in the menu. I called the server (Kaylee I believe was her name) over and asked about the missing potatoes. To my face, she said my entree didn't come with potatoes....even though the menu clearly stated it did. Service was slow. At one point, a bus boy brought coffee to one of my friends who ordered orange juice. Ugh. This place is terrible. Also, the wine list was sub par!! The view is great but the service is wretched. I sincerely do NOT recommend going here. I won't return.

Dinner was so amazing. We had five people outside and even in October, it was great. The heaters were on but not direct and blazing so we could still feel the ocean breeze. The menu was very innovative and outstanding! The shareable apps were beautifully presented and served out ocean front location very well without being pretentious. One of my favorite meals of the year. Can't wait to come back!

We had the best dinner and the best service thanks to Mandy! She treated us so sweetly and made us feel very special. We are staying at la Valencia for our anniversary and The Med is our absolute favorite restaurant! Mandy made it extra special for us and it was really appreciated! I would ask for her anytime you dine at la Valencia! Thank you Mandy - you really made our experience perfect and so happy!!!!

We did not stay at this hotel but we did stop for lunch one day. We sat on the balcony and had an amazing view of the ocean. La Jolla is quite stunning and this hotel is as well. We were just on a day trip so we ended up here for lunch when originally we were just going to look at the property. Well, we are glad that we stayed because the food was quite good and reasonably priced. They have a nice menu with some interesting items. There were four of us and we each tried something different and all enjoyed our meals. The Cubano sandwich was delicious. Dr Low Vegan delight was a very flavorful dish as well as the roasted beet and pear salad and fish tacos.Everything was extremely fresh. If you are in town for lunch please consider eating here.

My 75-year old mother contracted a pretty embarrassing case of diarrhea about one hour after eating the cobb salad at the Med this past Saturday. Before that she stayed with us for two weeks and ate the exact same things we ate, while observing all the sanitary protections against viruses and covid. So while it is theoretically possible she got it from somewhere else, I'd say she most likely got it from the cobb salad at the Med. Not a good experience at all.

Ryan was our server and he made our evening wonderful! We were visiting from the east and he made us feel welcomed and pampered! The food was very good and the atmosphere is lovely.

The food, the people, the service.....wonderful meal in a lovely ambiance. Even with two large groups in the restaurant when we were there it was still a lovely evening.

We had dinner a few nights ago. The menu is very heavy on seafood, in fact, we felt the aroma of seafood was very prominent in the room. It was difficult for us to find an interesting non-seafood entree. The risotto we had was just good but not any better. Is a lovely place, which is what it has going for it. Breakfast, as well, was just good but not great. But beautiful setting. Service was quite good.

We live in San Diego and wanted a stay-cation so we ventured over to La Valencia to eat. Our server, Mandy, was a warm welcome. We went with her suggestion and ordered the crab BTLA and WOW! It was so delicious. With the breathtaking view and great service this was truly a memorable meal and we definitely felt like we were on vacation! We’ll be back.

This place was spectacular. The food was incredible, we got the best table in the house, drinks were delicious, and the view was amazing. I did, however, thinking that it was a little outlandish on the price. The cost as much as dining at the stratosphere in Las Vegas, which was also very expensive but... it's the stratosphere. I would probably still go back, but only for a very special occasion.

My wife and I and another couple stopped in The Med, partially attracted to the atmospheric hotel and partially the outdoor dining location. It was a delightful experience, thanks to being located outdoors on the balcony overlooking the courtyard open to the ocean on a sunny day. The food was tasty though primarily salads since it was lunch. The cost for two with tip came to under $45 (no drinks). It should be noted the cost included a 4% surcharge to cover increasing labor costs. How this affects your tipping decision is anybody's guess (n Europe you tip very little since the labor cost is considered part of the meal cost).

this is for the dining room only. sunday brunch was ok. service was ok, (the server was actually really friendly/ cool. but overall service, because of the kitchen, time of day ? was just ok) and the food was ok. we were a bit rushed to get out, tables were being cleared around us.

We'd booked on-line for an evening meal. Not being guests at the hotel , we weren't certain where to go and had to wander around a bit on our own before someone appeared and showed us through to the restaurant. Once at a table we could admire the setting and appreciate the subdued lighting and good atmosphere, while the slick service clicked into place. The food was good (with a particular recommendation for the scallops) with some quite unusual combinations on the menu. The experience was marred however by the (in our view) very intrusive service: literally every time any of the several waiters or management walked past our table they seemed to find it necessary to enquire how we were enjoying each course of the meal - once from our own waiter and then possibly once from the manager would be sufficient! Also, as well as the lack of any restaurant reception/greeting/sign , further evidence of disorganization came when our main courses were delivered to the table before the first course plates had been cleared. A final note: don't go for the espresso coffees, they are small, very expensive and weak.

Recently had lunch at The Med with longtime friends in California. Food was delicious! View was lovely and relaxing.

Had Sunday lunch in this restaurant. Great sea view, good service and live music. However the lunch itself was average, pice on the high side, my friends got wrong food bu in the end it also worked out.

It was windy in the Cove and we were looking for a place we could sit inside, enjoy a drink, and watch the sunset. The Bar in the Valencia nailed it! Great wine choices and an inspired Bourbon with Cinnamon Smoke cocktail. We had the charcuterie board and a salad - both top notch. We watched the sunset over the Cove - without freezing. The have a perfect view! And then there was the piano bar - the guy was amazing. Huge repertoire, great voice, and he also played sax. Would go back in a heartbeat!

Very pleasant dining with great view. Outdoor tables or indoor tables were equally as fun. Food was always good and fresh.

You can't go wrong ordering anything at La Valencia. the service is exquisite, the food always excellent, and the ambiance is unbeatable.

Amazing breakfast/brunch!! They give you a lot of food for the money and it is delicious. If we ever return to La Jolla, we will be eating here again! And great view of the Pacific. Just go... you will not be disappointed.

It doesn't get better than the La Valencia bar and The Med cuisine! Unbeatable view Torrey Pines and the ocean. Excellent bar staff. Superb service (Johan was exceptional). Spot on menu and flawless execution from the kitchen.

Strolling through La Jolla we came upon The La Valencia Hotel and I remembered how good the food here was when I was here the last time about 7 or 8 years ago. I am very happy that nothing has changed!!! Still great tasting food, great service and very very nice view of the ocean and the cove. There is no better place to stop for lunch (or dinner) when you are looking for a romantic place with excellent food.

A stunning and delicious collection of brunch classics with additions of an incredible cheese bar and sushi bar! From French toast to Japanese sushi all in La Jolla for brunch!

Five of us had brunch on the outdoor terrace overlooking the ocean. Food was good and service attentive. Prices are reasonable A nice spot and we had an enjoyable time

This place was pretty amazing, but to be fair we got what I consider to be the best seat in the house alllll the way at the end on the patio. It was sublime. I’m someone who is a hard sell and this place was good. The food was also very good. Pricey, but good.

My husband and I would go here for date nights and/or brunch. We've also taken family here for some holiday and birthday lunches. That is how we love the place. Not only does it have a good view, location, superb service, it's the only place where each dish we ordered (and our family) has always been exquisite and the high quality very consistent. The architecture of this restaurant is also a big bonus. It is Mediterranean but not stuffy. It's got a cozy feel to it that makes you feel relaxed. BTW, a must try for weekend brunch is their lobster eggs benedict! Need I say more?

The ambiance/staff pull the boutique charm of The Med together. The food and drinks were delicious, it is a shame I couldn't try everything on the menu. Sweeping views of the Pacific are unparalleled and make the dining experience really stand out in San Diego. While the entire staff was helpful a special thanks to Johan and Tim for providing a great time at The Med.

We had Jairo the Hero and he was amazing! Super friendly and great recommendations. Would advise for the future.

As soon as we entered the hotel, we were greeted warmly and professionally by Concierge, Nancy Hirsch. She actually escorted us to the restaurant and made sure we got a beautiful table with an amazing view. Our server, Rebekah, was very knowledgeable about the menu and help us pick some wonderful brunch items. The food was delicious and the service, impeccable. We can hardly wait to return and will be asking for Nancy and Rebekah!

Excellent service from a team that treats each other & their guests like family. The greeters warmly welcomed us at the door with a smile. Gabby went above & beyond by seating us closer to the view when a table became available. Our server Mandy had a commanding knowledge of the menu & I’m pretty sure the word “no” isn’t in her vocabulary. I’ve never been catered to like I had just released a genie from a bottle. This experience was truly magic!

Although the decor looks grandiose, I can't say the same for my breakfast. Just like the hotel it resides in, the location is beautiful and it has the feel of something wonderful just waiting to be discovered. I had ordered their Carne Benedict and was surprised at the amount of sauce and spice. It felt like the chef simply took a big ladle and dumped it on. While our waitress was pleasant, we had to ask for salt and felt like we were bothering her when we did so. There was a large group that came in about 15 minutes after us so maybe they were busy preparing for the large group but regardless of the reason for the price the service and food definitely didn't match.

Stayed at the Lodge at Torrey Pines and came in for dinner. Hotel is very nice and the setting and décor very nice. Food and service were disappointing. Ordered Paella and got what best could be described as an appetizer.(1 shrimp, 1 scallop, 2 mussels and a couple small items-not rice, no nothing) Other than the hummus appetizer all dishes at the restaurant were very underwhelming. Too many nice place to go here again.

Excellent Restaurant. Our waitress, Natilee, was the best and very friendly and attentive. We highly recommend The Med. Food was superb. We dined on the outdoor patio with wonderful ocean views.

Highly Recommended by a friend so decided to come for dinner. As a vegan there was only one item from the menu to order: the spaghetti squash and toasted pepitas. Although beautiful plated and each ingredient delicious in its self, it lacked the ability to combine the ingredients to produce a please to the palate. In addition, Service was cold; another whammy. Will not return.
Not the best in town
It was fairly good. We had Lobster Salad ( ok ) , Artichoke crab ( good ), and two desserts, open wine for more than 150.00.... do the math, but it is La Jolla.
