Just had lunch with my son. He picked this place based on Yelp reviews and we were not disappointed. The sashimi was very fresh and high quality. Often times the white fish is chewy, but this not the case here. We followed the sashimi with a couple of rolls that were good. I've had better rolls, so I'll give the rolls a B+/A- in this case. Overall, the food was to the level that this place is certainly worth a try if you are in the area.

Very good sushi, delightful staff and family owned and operated. Have been several times and never been disappointed. This little hole in the wall is not obvious in east county and I think has simply survived due to quality and word of mouth, don't let this gem go by.

I heard about Meeka's from another motel guest and decided to give it a try. I had a Unagi, fire dragon roll and seaweed salad, along with panko squid. I was a bit apprehensive at first because the floor looked like it could be replaced, it seemed kind of dirty. But when the food arrived, and I tasted it, I forgot all about the condition of the floor. The food overcomes the atmosphere. Would go here again!

What a great find Meeka Japanese was!!! The sushi here is amazing and the service was fantastic!! I am in Portland for 10 days and have already come here twice and was completely satisfied both times and left full and satisfied!! The sushi is so fresh and good!!!

We use to go here often, but the service has gotten really bad, never enough help!! The sushi has also gone down hill. The cleanliness is not great, floors need replaced and bathroom cleaned

We ordered a variety of sushi, appetizers and dinner. The edamame was fresh. The tempura was light and flavorful. All the sushi we had was excellent. My 12 year old ate all of her gyoza and chicken terriyaki even after having some calamari appetizer. The only drawback was that the dinners did not all come out at the same time. However, we were a party of 7 which was part of the challenge. We would definitely return if we are in the area.

We have been here 4 times now and this is my go to family style Japanese restaurant. The flavoring is just like what my grandmother would have made, slightly sweet but still savory at the same time. Japanese food in the US is often called Nikkei style as JA families tweaked the food to the ingredients found in California (e.g. California crab/advocado rolls) Sushi has been very good and consistent. High quality, firm fish (so many places now it is mushy), very fresh and bright color. The tempura has been perfect - like and fluffy. They have the oil temp perfect. Kitchen might be a little slow but then I am happy to wait a bit for the high quality of the cooked food. And service has always been good and attentive

This is hands down the best sushi I've ever had. They're resonably priced, have extremely nice staff, and recently made some updates to the restaurant. We LOVE Meeka!

This hidden Japanese restaurant has been a consistent gem for years. Yesterday, I had tempura calamari and nabeyaki soba. Nabeyaki soba is not on the menu, but the noodle substitution was made without question. The time before I had a very nice sashimi platter. All were excellent. When ever I am visiting that side of town, I try to stop by.

We have been coming to this restaurant for several years. The food and the food portions are very good and the price of their food is excellent. However, the service has historically been on the slow side. Today, for lunch, the service was extremely slow. We were the first one in the restaurant and it took over 45 minutes before we got our lunch. We ordered teriyaki and tempura. When we got our lunch, the teriyaki was luke warm, like it had been sitting out for awhile. We suspect that they cooked the teriyaki first and then let it set while the tempura was cooking. One of us received his lunch first and the rest of us received our lunch about 5 - 10 minutes later. Because of the slow service, we as well as other groups that came in for lunch, went up to the cash register to pay since we thought it would take a long time before any of us would get a bill at our table. The food is very good, but you may want to avoid this place if you don't have a lot of time to eat or if you are running on a tight time schedule.

My husband took me to Meeka for the first time this week while visiting his home town, and it was absolutely amazing. We ordered a huge platter full of different kinds of sushi to try (it filled up four adults!) and the bill was less than $40! The unagi (eel) was out of this world, as were the crispy salmon skin rolls (my personal favorite!), the Vegas rolls, and the Oregon rolls. Everything was incredibly fresh and the rolls were tightly formed, so they didn't fall apart when picking them up with chopsticks (I hate that when that happens!). Personally, I cannot wait to move to the area so it can become one of our regular places to eat!

My husband and I are staying at a hotel not far from the restaurant. It was pretty slow as we went on a Wednesday. There was only one woman taking care of the entire restaurant which is not huge but honestly too much for one person to both wait on tables and bus them. I was pleased with the food. I only had 2 rolls because my husband doesn't eat sushi. He had a steak dish. The miso was very good and not too salty. I would go back if we ever come back (we are visiting from the east coast).

I was recommended to go to this place and was not expecting the greatest but it exceeded my expectations surprisingly. Good food, nice staff

This place is very reasonably priced, amazing food everytime. Only complaint is sometimes there is only one waitress but it is worth the wait!!!

This is by far the best sushi I have ever had. My wife and I try to get up here whenever we can (we drive 45 min just to eat here). They are in a shady part of town, but that's not an issue during the day. The staff is very friendly. The service takes a little longer than I'd like, but it is well worth the wait. We have tried a variety of rolls and have been pleased with all of them. This is one of Portland's best kept secrets. Their Vegas rolls and Fire Dragon rolls are a must have.

Ate here on a recommendation from a local. Went on a Saturday night without a reservation and were seated at the last open table. Had to remove our shoes for the traditional style seating which meant bare feet on a sticky floor as I’d worn flip flops. :-( My husband had a combination teriyaki chicken dinner which came with fresh sashimi plus the usual sides. My son and I had the mango roll and the Meeka 2 roll. All the food was really fresh and good. The only criticism is that the tempura appetizer we ordered came out after most of our meal was consumed. I would definitely return here but sit a table and chairs option. This is obviously a local favorite and for a small kitchen handles the volume well.

Never disappointed ! ❤ their food -- eat here at least once /wk My favs: crab tower, Meeka #3, and Mt Hood !

Service with a smile! Great people. It is easy to miss from the road if you're not looking but worth stopping by :). Food was great and will most defiantly eat there again!!!

After 30 years, “The search for the BEST Tempura has finally been found!” My Mother used the most delicate and light crispy batter for her shrimp, sweet potatoes, and other various veggies. She always laid the most tender, broiled eel on her sushi. I’m a horrible cook. So, after she passed, I have prowled all over Oregon and Washington and...found in my own backyard Mom’s replacement...Meeka Sushi! I bring friends and family here regularly. Since I feel guilty, selfishly wolfing down all of their delicious selections. Prices are very reasonable. Friendly and courteous service!!! I go when it is not the meal time rush.

This is my best sushi I ever had. Their chef is really one of a kind. Their fish variety is wide and their freshness is one of a kind. The Sashimi dinner was so unparalleled and I tried several other sushi rolls on top, all of which were more than excellent. I think the key to their excellent food is the chef. I knew he has been in this business for a long time. The service was also excellent. Definitely this is the best sushi I ever had. The price we paid was around $35 each person.

Very few places nowadays will serve real crab in their sushi items; Meeka is one of the better ones where you will find that. They also have great lunch entrees fairly reasonably priced. Their Alaskan roll is also very good.

Whenever we want sushi we hop and the car and drive 30 minutes to Meeka. Always consistenetly delicious and fresh. Would recommend this place before any of the fancy downtown sushi restaurnts. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed

those 2 things often go together. The sushi is fresh and good, which means it takes some time to prepare. This is a tiny place with nice ambience, but due to size can seem loud. when all the tables are full.

Meeka has great sushi, chicken teriyaki and the tastiest green tea you can find. They are always friendly and welcoming. Be prepared for a little wait during dinner hours since they are so popular. Likely the best sushi place in Gresham.

I have to admit there was a bit of a fish smell when I walked in, however the food was good. I did stick to basic rolls, tempura and teriyaki chickin, however.

I've been here at least 5-6 times, and I keep coming back because it is the closest sushi place to my home and I try to support local businesses when I'm able. The space and especially the flooring need updating, and I've received chipped or mismatched dinnerware more than once. However, the food is good, the pricing fairly standard, and the service is friendly.

Just had dinner at Meeka tonight. What an excellent restaurant! To be honest we weren't expecting much since it was located in such an out of the way spot. But once our food came to our table we were pleasantly surprised by how good everything was. Since it was our first visit we wanted to try everything on the menu. And we got a little carried away. The sushi is fresh and very good. Great assortment of rolls (the Mt. Hood roll was very tasty). We also had the tempura bento with teriyaki salmon....yummy! I liked how the tempura wasn't overly breaded. Salmon cooked perfectly. My kids wanted noodles so we got them the yakisoba which was served on a sizzling platter. Overall it was an excellent meal. We had enough food to feed 5 adults and it cost well under $100! Very reasonable price for so much food. This place must be very popular because there was actually a line of people waiting for a table to come available. After such a wonderful meal we are already planning our next visit. I highly recommend this place.

Found this place quite by accident but have been back several times since. Excellent and Fresh Sushi, and the cooked items are tasty as well.

Some friends recommended this to us and we were not disappointed. Sushi was very good, extremely well presented and tasted fresh. Cooked dishes were excellent as well and delicious. I was very pleased to find a Asian restaurant in the Gresham area that was of this quality.

I had the chicken teriyaki and tempura combination and my partner had the Meeka bento and both were awesome tasting. Food was hot, presented nicely and left we left full. They also provided Musi soup, Japanese tea and a lettuce salad with the meal.

I've been to many sushi places around Portland, and this is one of my favorites. Their Vegas and Philadelphia rolls are bomb! The authentic atmosphere adds to the charm of the place. It is not super well known, therefore it is not too packed. The only thing that stops it from being 5 stars is their service, which can be slow.
Good place
Best sushi for miles. Also the only sushi for miles. Clean establishment with good food, Japanese beer, sushi, and Japanese fare. It is in a funky strip mall but don't let that fool you. I have always had good food there for less money than going into inner NE Portland
