Great Kosher Deli

By Mwellaby |

We hosted a family get together with around 50 cousins and children. Was busy and chaotic but all went smoothly. Food was good and service was pretty fast, considering how large of a group we were. We tried almost everything on the menu and it was all great. French fries are amazing. Middle eastern food was awesome. Prices are reasonable and they even have nice steaks!

What a Disappointment! It did not come close to our expectations!

I had not been to Mendy's in many years and the last time I went it was the midtown location, which was very nice. This Mendy's is located just off to the side of the Brooklyn Children's Museum. When we walked in, it was crowded and we were happy to find a table. The table was not clean, but we felt best to clean it ourselves or run the possibility of losing it. The place looked a bit ran down, but we were hoping that it would live up to its rep. We ordered several different dishes including sandwiches, a dinner plate and sides (knishes and fries), and a few sodas. The prices were a bit high, like in a fine restaurant so we hoped for the best. After we ordered we had to wait for them to shout out what we had ordered and then come to the counter to pick it up (there was no waiter service). The sandwiches were scrimpy, with what tasted like processed meats. The dinner plate was mostly of sides and a small portion of meat. The sides were tasty but overall we were left hungry. We also noted that when others left their tables, if the folks leaving didn't clean it up, those tables were left dirty. The overall experience was very negative and we do not plan on returning!

Good sandwich, but few extras

A group of friends were touring the Crown Heights area, and we decided to try Mendy's for dinner, as some of us keep kosher. I had a turkey pastrami sandwich. Now, I thought that meant the pastrami was actually made out of turkey. Oh no, it meant a half-turkey / half-pastrami sandwich. There was a lot of tender meat in the sandwich, served on soft rye bread, with two large sour kosher pickle slices. For $12, I would have thought the sandwich would have been served with potato chips or a side salad. Don't get me wrong--it was a a very good sandwich. If a side had been included, I'd probably rate Mendy's at four circles instead of three.

great place!

Great place to eat dinner. Great food. Israeli style. Nice service, and lots of seating space. Great for the perfect meal.

Authentic food

Looks worn and ordinary but the kosher food is good. Sandwiches and wraps, soup all had authentic flavours and traditional appearance. Large serves. Suitable for families with kids. Had a selection of vegan dishes. Recommended.

Classic kosher Deli open all hours

If you are in the Crown Heights area and particularly visiting 770, then this place is simply a local institution. Its across the road from 700 and open really late. Easy to get made to order type sandwiches etc. I had the traditional pastrami on rye and it was pretty good without being outstanding. Prices were reasonable without being a cheap eat. Best is to get in before the crowds do as it tends then to swamp the kitchen and take a bit of time to get your yummy meal Summary: Good kosher deli what won;t disappoint

Mendy’s: a Favorite Dining Spot

By Joel K |

Mendy’s is our go-to place for a delicious meal. With a varied Chinese menu, sandwiches, wraps, salads, and American choices like hamburgers and fries, there is something for everyone. A children’s menu is also available. Portions are generous: the grilled chicken platter is big enough for two people to share. Another bonus: I have dietary restrictions due to colitis and a gluten sensitivity, and the staff is accommodating to my needs. If you would rather eat at home, take-out is ready in a short time, and free delivery is available. The restaurant is strictly kosher with a meat menu and conviently located in the heart of Crown Heights. On Friday, Mendy’s supplies a variety of take-out foods served buffet style. There are also several Mendy’s locations in Manhattan, one in Grand Central Station with both meat and dairy sections.

Meh

Ordered a triple combo sandwich with Russian dressing which they didn’t put any Russian dressing on the sandwich. Chicken schnitzel avocado wrap was better but everything was way too expensive for quality received. Went to Raskin Fish afterwards and spent approximately $15 for higher quality food. Skip mendys !!! Not worth it.

Ok take out

Passing through crown heights I thought I'd take home kosher deli (none on Staten Island). The corned beef was tasty but a little small for a $12 sandwich and a little fatty. I enjoyed the French fries and ditto the homemade cole slaw. The sour pickle went in the garbage never could eat those. The kitchen is open and appears clean and they offer fresh sushi and a dining room.

Cheap good food

No time for you

I came in for a bite to eat and got attitude instead. What do you want he barked at me, I asked him what do you have he told me to go out of the line till I figure it out. I told him give me a pastrami sandwich. And fries and a coke. What I got was half pastrami half fat at a fat price a small portion of fries. And the only good part of the meal was the can of coke. If you’re looking for a good meal go south 2 blocks to Mermelstein Takeout and enjoy.

Good good, nothing fancy.

Great spot to grab a quick bite. Burgers and fries. Nothing Fancy. But never disappoints. I cant recall ever having a bad meal here. But service is not always as fantastic as it could be, and if it gets busy, service becomes no existent. Still worth a trip though.
