Great drinks, great food

By mlja77 |

We went here with family recently. We had previously been to their restaurant in north Dallas and wanted to try this location as well. It did not disappoint. It's a bit roomier but still has great food, great drinks, and great service. Knowing that young children are not patient, our server took the kids' food order while she was taking the drink order for the adults. Their food came promptly so they could start eating more quickly. My only complaint was that they should offer children either a smaller fork or spoon to eat with, a 3-year-old trying to eat rice without spilling from a gigantic fork is challenging to say the least. Everyone at the table had something different and all entrees were declared very good. Even I found a great meal although I need to avoid gluten. Their guacamole is top notch as well. We will undoubtedly be back when we go visit the next time.

More than your typical Mexican food

By Sharpeipup |

Meso Maya has all the food you'd expect from a Mexican restaurant as well as plenty of twists on the traditional. From 3 different soups to a variety of salads, there's even quite a few lighter options so you don't have to roll your way out. The cocktail menu features some of the most creative drinks I've seen paired with Mexican food so there's fun to be both in food & beverage. The only downside was that our server practically hovered over us. Despite a practically empty dining room, she rushed us along at every step.

Horrible...Bad service and greasy food

By Alan T |

Awful. Horrendous service and food that gave us all stomach aches. OInce a great neighborhood place is now a dump. Manager came over and asked "What's the problem." There's the problem....had he been watching, he would have known that slow service, greasy food and a restaurant in total dysfunction makes for a poor customer experience. This pace is off our list.

Excellent service; food-not so much

By eatsallinsects |

Our waiter, Chevy, disappeared (we found out he went to his lunch) and others took over. I ordered the combination of tortilla soup and seafood enchilada but it looked like a taco to me? My daughter had what was essentially a Mexican lasagna. We both ordered the flan for dessert.

Best Pork chop I've ever had

By TravelSpot2 |

The food is excellent and so are the margaritas. The place was really busy when we got there and the noise level made it quite hard to talk, but the food definitely makes it worth a visit

One of my new favorite restaurants!

By Connie P |

We have been there twice now. The whole family loves it! We've tried a variety of things on the menu and loved everything we've tried. On your first visit, the manager sends over a complimentary appetizer. The service is excellent! Great for the whole family. This location is next door to the swimming school my grandson attends. Very convenient to drop in for lunch after swimming lessons and casual enough that this isn't a problem. Saturday lunch will usually find some kids with wet hair having lunch.

Excellent restuarant week menu, small but very very good

By bddunk |

We went with another couple during this year's DFW restaurant week. This place only had one selection for this special week, so we were somewhat hesitant to order it. But 3 out of the 4 at the table did order the special. It came with a very tasty ceviche appetizer, the main course was a pork asada with white rice and black beans - it to was fantastic. The kicker was the dessert - corn cake with a variety of ingredients with a delicious sauce and topped with ice cream - excellente. The quantity of the meal wasn't so much that it stuffed you but it did fill you up. We have not been disappointed at this restaurant ever; our server Mercedes did and excellent job and was very attentive. If this place was just a bit closer to where we lived we would visit more often.

Food was good, but it was so loud

By Carol B |

The food was authentic spin on mexican food. The staff were very friendly and the drinks were good. My biggest problem was how loud it is when it is busy. Not a good place to go if you have someone hard of hearing in your group.

Exceeded expectations

By Sofia J |

I love food and I've had authentic, really real Mexican food, we actually just came back from America, Yucatan and it's some of the most delicious food I've ever had. When we arrived to the restaurant service was fast courteous just like only Mexicans know how to do. The chips and salsa were ok, the salsa was too cold for my taste but it had good flavor. My hubs ordered the "carne asada" and the meat was nice and tender and absolutely flavorful, I had the mole enchiladas and I could taste the spices and chiles-- I tasted everything and it was indeed real Mexican mole. We finished dinner off with the pastel de chocolate with a side of corn ice cream and it was yummy. The fresh lemonade is addictive and absolutely delicious. The restaurant manager came to welcome us and to thank us for coming, he also brought us 2 tortillas with guacamole and they were tasty and flavorful. It wasn't Merida's food but it was very delicious.

Dinner Date plus friends

By Nolaboy70 |

Want during the wk on a weds of the first wk of being opened and the service was a little off. We still enjoyed the drinks and food. Though I had to go reorder my wife's drink then my own once no big deal I'll chalk that one up to first wk being opened. Food was fresh and chips and salsa good too. I won't be in a rush to go back but our friends do love this place so I'll be bk lol.

Marvelous Mexican Meal!

By K K |

It"s Located in the Heart of Dallas! Beautiful atmosphere inside and out! The Staff is friendly and efficient. The meal was marvelous! Great portions! Authentic cuisine! The Enchiladas, white rice and black beans where cooked to perfection! Amazing deserts! If you want authentic Mexican chocolate cake this is sinfully perfect a must have! Thank you for a great and memorable meal!

Quality Mexican Food

By texastravelpr0 |

Went with a group for dinner. Not your traditional TEX-MEX fare. Website is a bit confusing and menu is as well. Lots of authentic dishes. Good quality and flavor. Good service and high end atmosphere. Carne Asada was excellent. Tasty and tender. Cooked to perfection. Highly recommend!

Great experience

By Dallastfc |

Dined at mesomaya for the first time last night and I'll have to say my wife and I really liked it. We are not a big fans of Tex-mex/"Mexican " food as served here in the USA but this was delicious! The food had an authentic flavor and look ( kind of like how my mom cooked when I was a kid... she's from Mexico City,DF)... the service staff was knowledgeable and genuinely friendly ... we will definitely be returning.

Loved this Mexican joint

By Mwill22222 |

Fantastic food at this place and great service. We ordered brisket enchiladas and tacos for mains with delicious sauces on both. The beans and rice are tasty additions. Service staff are super attentive, friendly and explained the menu for us. We finished with a chocolate cake. Portion size is pretty large for us but high quality food!

Great queso fundido

By Armando G |

Recommend the Mango Sangrita and Flan de Queso, I had the cochinita Pibil, not the best I ever had but the service was great.

Great find in Galleria area

By cndrocks |

Became very disappointed in the food options near my stay in Galleria area. Until I found this gem ! Great authentic Latin and Mexican dishes. I wasn't terribly hungry and planned to order the brisket tacos, until our waiter suggested I try a couple dishes like the Short Rib. Fantastic , and the waiter was more than willing to be helpful and not pushy. I recommend the step up margarita with fresh lime juice. Great place in a area over-run in mall food and chains.

Very mild food

By Elias W |

Having lived in Mexico for seven years and having eaten real Mexican food, I and my two girls were not too impressed with the food. The mole needed a lot of sauce. The Veracruz fish had no sauce on it.. just a couple of capers and the pork I had was milder than anything I have had in years. I want real Mexican food please... the service was good and the workers were very friendly.

Amazing food!

By Tr1p_Adv1s3 |

The place is very well decorated. Excellent service and the food is fantastic! I came for business, but you can easily bring your family here. The staff is super friendly and you can tell they are happy to work there. In terms of food, presentation is outstanding, flavor is super rich and authentic, and totally fresh ingredients(they make their own tortillas!). A huge variety of drinks, even non alcoholic drinks, their lemonade is outstanding. I liked this place so much I visited twice while in Dallas for business. It looks like it get rather busy at dinner time, so plan your visit or make reservations.

Perfect lunch

By Jenny |

We had an outstanding lunch in that restaurant. Very family friendly and nice service. Glutenfree is not a problem and you have so many options.

Authentic Mexican

By PGAPRO2006 |

This place is a culinary adventure, and I don’t care if D Magazine gives this place 5 Stars, it’s better than that! The chilaquiles are a nice way to start your brunch, but for lunch try the chicken Mole, or the Del Mar (shrimp and crab meat) wrapped in white corn tortilla.

Not your average Mexican restaurant

By Bob C |

This is not your typical Mexican restaurant. Perhaps it’s the Mayan influence perhaps something else. The food is fantastic and flavorful. The soup was awesome, the main courses steps above other Mexican food you’ve eaten. Visit MesoMaya and you won’t be disappointed. Great atmosphere, great and friendly service, fantastic flavorful food.

Nice Mexican Food in Dallas.

By Roberts69 |

I ate dinner here whilst on a business trip to Dallas. Service from Enrique was good, the ambience was nice, the chips and salsa were great, and the menu was all very tempting. We had the Guacamole, which was very good. Then for entree I had the Pork Shoulder and it was nice, but I was hungry, and honestly I could have done with the portion size being a bit bigger. My colleague had the Pork Chop and he was very happy with his meal. The Balcherita's were nice but $16 each.

Carne Asada

By MDNied |

One of our favorite places to dine. Glad they opened in Addison to save us miles. The chef has prepared a diverse menu for all tastes. The carne asada is a must try. The chips and salsa are perfect. The chocolate cake is superb. Alan is an especially attentive waiter.

Nice Mexican for lunch/brunch

By Pauak |

Went there after visiting the Clyde Warren park. The restaurant is only a minute walk from the park. And if driving, they have a few parking spots, in case you're lucky. The service was outstanding. Our sever was effective, polite and personal. The food is pretty good. The best we had was the Ceviche, although the bigger portion is maybe a little too much. The "huevos borrachos" was tasty, not too hot and could feed 2 persons. The children menu is short, but the portions are definitely not small. No kid will go hungry here! Finally the drinks on the menu, expensive at $9 and above, but the brunch drinks (sangria, Bloody Mary, mimosa) at $3 was a bargain. Warning: the B'Mary is very hot/spicy although I thought is was delicious.

Second time and just as delicious!

By Kalina R |

Firstly, our waitress was new and kept apologizing for taking a bit long. I'm like GURL! If you don't chill out with yoir stress and tale a breath. It's busy and you're doing a great job! She laughed and calmed a bit and service was great! Food is excellent and the sangria and mojito is the bomb.com!!!! Go! Male a reservation too!

Close but no cigar

By Micpea16 |

This Mexican restaurant is a neighborhood spot obviously popular with locals because it was rocking and completely full by 7 pm on a Wednesday night. But it was so noisy that I could barely hear my waitress. This spot has a minimalist interior, a full bar, and very attentive employees that are always checking on patrons and their needs. The Pozole Verde soup is superior and addictive and the green corn tamales are delicious. I was disappointed in the Cochinita pibil, not because the pork was so tender and juicy, but because it was not flavorful, which is typical of this dish when I have enjoyed it elsewhere. However, it is served with a hot sauce that will torch your tonsils and leave you smouldering. Their salsa is equally bland. But their flan is very rich and nicely presented as were all their dishes.

True Mexican Food!

By Katie B |

This restaurant was more than we expected!! The food was fresh and delicious with incredible flavor. They serve authentic Yucatan specialties and have perfected them!!! The service is wonderful and everyone was exceptionally nice!! We are already planning our return!!

nice ambiance, good food

By Daniel A |

this place offers nice ambiance, interesting and good food, fair pricing, good company helps too, something different to enjoy

Wonderful treat

By McKinneyTraveler |

We were looking for a new restaurant to try and we hit the jackpot! Not Tex Mex. The food and service was amazing. They asked if it was our first time and because it was they brought out homemade corn tortillas with wonderful guacamole. I had the Carne Asada and it came with a side of corn dish that melted in your mouth. The carne asada was cooked to perfection and the seasoning was perfect. My husband had Cochinda Pibil and he loved it. A little spicy but amazing flavors. Will be back!

Excellent food. Even better service.

By Jessica_4644 |

Thursday night date night with my husband. Seated immediately at our reservation time. The staff were friendly and very efficient. I ordered a sangria margarita and my husband ordered a traditional. Both were very good. Our waitress timed our service perfectly so that we had drinks right away, time to look at the menus, then had our appetizer while we ordered entrees that arrived a few minutes after we finished the first course. Also someone from the kitchen came out and welcomed us as first time guests with their fresh house made corn tortillas and guacamole. Portions were large. We had plenty left to take home for a second meal. If you order the chocolate cake, it's a small cake that could feed four. I believe it was served with a sweet corn ice cream. Whatever it was, it was good. Will return when we are in Dallas in the future.

Good Food & Drinks

By Tamara880 |

We stay a night in Dallas on our way out to Kansas from NOLA each year. First of all, the service is great. Very attentive staff. We sat at the bar. They have many different types of margaritas and the bartender gave good descriptions on each margarita. I had the cucumber margarita, very refreshing. I ordered the pork tacos. Meal was great authentic Mexican food. Although the place seemed busy to me, the bartender said it was a slower Saturday night for them.

The Real Deal

By IkoIkoIko |

I knew it was going to be good when I looked into the open kitchen upon entering and saw a woman making the tortillas from fresh masa by hand,. Everything from the unique margaritas and tasty appetizers to the entrees was enjoyed by our large group. I recommend the Oaxaca for a unique cocktail. I will revisit Mesomaya every time I am in Dallas.

Authentic fresh

By Mark O |

Best guacamole in Dallas. Excellent service. Desserts to die for. Beautiful flavours and not too sweet. Try the Mexican coffee.

Swank and Trendy

By marks |

This is a rather swank and trendy restaurant in North Dallas- but don’t let that put you off... MesoMaya is well worth the visit. (There is a second location on McKinney Avenue downtown.) MesoMaya is listed in lots of reviews as "mexican"- but that sells this place short. Lots of dishes I have never heard of including the Mexican Toast which several at my table ordered during the Sunday Brunch. This dish is like pancakes or waffles on steroids including loads of fresh fruit, vanilla cream cheese and cinnamon syrup. I had the Huevos Borrachos with shrimp- outstanding. Oh, and try the Avocado Margarita. Even with our large table of nine, we had friendly, superb service. If you plan on dining during busy hours, call ahead for reservations.

Good food, polite service

By AdventureTripping |

Nice dwcor, authentic mexican food. Lots of seating, probably a corporate luncheon spot. Waiter was very polite, all smiles, and accomodating. Salsas are smoky with a slow heat and chips are crispy. Chicken mole was tasty. The chicken was a little bland, but the mole made up for it. Calabacitas was a nice veggie side. Posole soup was full of tender corn and chicken.

Horrible Service - Do not recommend

By harpist77 |

A month ago I booked a reservation for our military moms group, who meets monthly at various restaurants in Dallas. It has been our experience that our table is set up and ready for us at least fifteen minutes before our reservation time of 7:00 p.m. When I arrived at Meso Maya a few minutes prior to our reservation, there was no empty table set up for a group. When I asked the man and woman at the hostess station about the reservation, the man had a "deer in the headlights" look on his face. He started fumbling around at the computer and finally found my reservation. He told me that I was the first one to arrive in my party. The woman contradicted him and said that there were four in my party already at the bar. So much for honesty. I asked to speak to the manager and he said he was the manager. When I told him that a table was ready for us at all the other restaurants we visit, he said the table would be ready in two minutes and ordered me to sit down and wait. I continued to stand. I did not see anyone setting it up. The man said it would be ready at 7:00, and I pointed out that my watch did say 7:00. Then another man came to me and said that HE was the manager, saying he wanted to make things right. I told him that two different people had called me from this restaurant in the past two days to confirm the reservation, so I was surprised that they were not prepared. He said that they had several large groups that night. When I told him I that I did not generally have good service in the patio area, where they were seating us, he promised me that we would have good waiters. I then saw some employees set up some tables for our group. The second manager came to the table and apologized again, saying that they had overbooked for that evening. He seemed genuinely sorry and I believed that he wanted to make it right. Based on this conversation, I expected good service. It never happened. I was dismayed that our waiter had a surly attitude when he initially came to our table and was not friendly at all. He took drink orders but it took a long time to get our drinks. When he brought my water, he stuck a straw right in front of my face. I had to wonder if he was trying to get back at me for complaining. He had two helpers who genuinely seemed to want to give good service, but they could not make up for the bad attitude of this waiter. After 30 minutes passed, I finally had to ask him to take our orders. I realize that we had some empty chairs, but he could have asked if we were expecting any more in our party, like waiters at other restaurants have done. There was no courtesy at all. It took a long time to get our food. When it finally came, the orders were all mixed up, and it took some time to get them straightened out. The coffee was lukewarm at best, and I had to ask for refills. I expected better for the $3 charge. One time when I asked the waiter for a refill, he ignored me and one of the helpers acted like I should not bother the waiter with that request. There was no salt and pepper on the table, and I had to request ground pepper. If I thought the situation was bad with taking the orders, it was MUCH worse during the payment process. The waiter paid absolutely NO attention to which order was whose and got the tickets all mixed up. Then he showed no care whatsoever when he brought back the credit cards. I had paid with cash and did not need change. He gave me two different people's credit cards. Finally a lady who spoke Spanish began to speak to the waiter at length to get the credit card situation straightened out. This waiter was very negligent and acted like he did not care. There were no apologies. It was an extremely disappointing experience and we did not feel like valued customers. I will not be back. Stay away from this place. The service is horrible and the waiters do not care.

Best Mole ever!

By bsfox6754 |

Great service and excellent food! Our waiter was personable, and had wonderful recommendations. Unique cocktail selections. I tried the avacado Margarita which was delicious. My Mole Pablano enchiladas were outstanding. My husband had the short rib and relleno which was also delicious! Delicious fresh guacamole!

We love the true Mexican and Aztec food

By Mary Alice M |

I had the short rib and chili relleno. Delicious. My husband had a delicious braised pork dish, called Cochinita Pibil. We like the interior of the restaurant too. A little noisy when it is full. We had chicharroles, which is fried pork jaw. Interesting, but I was not wildly crazy about it. My husband like it better than I did.

OMG Best Mexican food ever

By TheisA |

Got into town this was recommended at the car rental place. It was absolutely the best Mexican food I've ever had. This would include the food in Mexico. I highly recommend. We will be back Friday night before we leave now.

Delicious Budin Azteca

By Paige S |

Meso maya was our pick for a date night. We got the Chuleta and vegetable budin azteca and both were to die for. A unique take, both dishes were thoroughly enjoyed. The staff was very attentive and friendly, and overall everything was yummy. Would certainly recommend.

Just the beginning

By P L |

The restaurant just opened on Monday and we went the same week. We were seated right away with no reservation; however, with many tables empty, we were put near the bathrooms on the side of the room. We had guacamole, cerviche, cheese with veggies (mushrooms) dip, and a queso that we didn't order but we got because of an error. The avacado margarita and strawberry margarita were both a little different. We wanted to get a taste of some apps. Overall, the taste was not special. Spices were not identified and nothing intense. I know this is not a Tex-mex type menu but we were looking for different flavors. Maybe later we'll try again and see if there were changes. The room was beautiful and wait staff was attentive. The tables did not have salt and pepper and we had to ask.

Very good food, excellent service

By Kaptx |

Hadn’t visited in a while. Found MM to be very good food with excellent service. Chips are good as is the salsa. The guacamole was just average but the queso was very good. All entrees were very good with the huevos motulenos, the chicken salad, Pozole, and the chilaquiles selected by us. Discounted bloody Mary’s and mimosas available.

Love this place

By MDNied |

Great food and service will be yours if you dine here. Maybe the best chips and salsa in town. The carne asada is cooked to projection. The adult beverages are flavorful. The desserts are wonderful, especially the chocolate cake. A very nice atmosphere to dine and enjoy friends and family.

Fun atmosphere and excellent food

By bandman15 |

Enjoyed a wonderful meal of Tacos Carnitas and a Mango Margarita. Service was friendly, quick and professional. There is indoor/outdoor seating available and it is a large space. We were there on a Sunday evening (early) and had to wait a few minutes for a table. Highly recommend.

A unique, flavorful meal

By a-travelin-foodie |

This is not a Tex-Mex place! We don't know what authentic Mexican is, as we've never spent time there - but if this is it - Wow - we need to get there fast! We went early enough to get happy hour, but they only have drinks - which was fine - a $5 delicious margarita hit the spot. Table chips and salsa are fresh and different - so much flavor in that salsa. We opted for no starters so we could get an entrée each. But, because if was our first time there, the manager brought us guacamole tacos, made with their house made amazing corn tortillas and really yummy guac. Very cool that the waitress passed on that it was our first time - a nice welcome program - indicative of their friendly and helpful staff. We had the budin with beef and the cochinita pibil (braised pork). Both were outstanding, just loaded with layered flavors and the meats cooked perfectly. Just when I thought mine was better, I'd taste the other and swoon over that one. The budin is like a Mexican lasagna - oh my! The pork came with some more fresh tortillas. We ate half of each and saved the rest to go home so we could try the chocolate cake for dessert - which was a bit too much for the two of us, but so darn tasty we had to finish it all. The entrees are pricier than you'd find at most Tex Mex places - this is a meal at a nice restaurant with fresh preparation. Next time we'd start with a salad to get some green, and share an entree. A very busy place, but parking in the strip mall is plentiful, even if you have to walk a bit. Can't wait to go back!

Easter Sunday Breakfast

By VERAFUND |

Good service, good food, fare price Nice location, easy to park Define as Mexican Restaurant y would classified it as TEXMEX original flavor, not to spicy I recommend it

Avocado margarita . . . yes, please!

By Mis_Adventurous |

The world is full of Tex-Mex restaurants. Well, welcome to excellent interior Mexican with a great selection of seafood enchiladas, mole enchiladas with smoked chicken, and a drink list which is not only creative, but delicious. My personal favorite was the avocado margarita with a spicy rim. Although it sounds a little "different" the outcome is PERFECTION in a glass. Mesomaya has a few locations; so, find one near you and give it a try.

When in Dallas you need MesoMaya!

By Arthur225NYC |

Back again on 11/15/18 ordered a Rocks Margarita @$8 and Pollo Serano @$13. Both were excellent! Just love coming here when in Dallas. The waitstaff are very friendly, helpful, and consistent.

Fantastic & authentic Mexican lunch here

By lplsally |

I have been to MesoMaya a couple of times for dinner but never for lunch. I decided to take my sister here for her birthday lunch and was not disappointed. It was outstanding. Service here is always top notch - attentive, informative, professional - this lunch visit was no exception. We were seated immediately and drink orders taken immediately. We ordered the small size of guacamole to go with our chips and fire roasted, house made salsa. Both the salsa and guacamole were exceptional. I really liked the smokey flavor of the salsa which is medium-hot. The guacamole was obviously just made and had just the right amount of lime. We ordered the lunch special which allows you to select a soup or salad to start and then have an entree of either one taco or one enchilada with rice and beans. My sister ordered the veggie enchilada which was stuffed with well-cooked, still firm veggies. My shrimp taco was excellent too with fresh & firm grilled shrimp. The beans are refried black beans, well seasoned & creamy. For dessert we had their special coffee cooked with chocolate and cinnamon with cream and brown sugar to add if you wish on the side. It tastes more decadent than the calories it holds. The interior has an Old Mexico/Hacienda feel. I love their bar area. This is a place to return to again and again.

Upscale Mexican with flair

By Layne O |

We started with the house margaritas along with chips and salsa and ordered the combo guacamole and queso combo. The warm queso dip was outstanding. We agreed the guacamole could have used more salt, cilantro and jalapeño for flavor. Our entrees were very good. There was a choice of sweet or spicy mole (went with the spicy which was good) enchilada. The Serrano chicken enchiladas had some nice heat. The carne asada tacos were ordinary. Lunch with drinks, appetizer, entrees, tax and tip was $120 for three adults. Definitely would return.

Good service, good food

By TravelingJo2014 |

We were there on a business trip and needed to cater to a range of different dietary needs. The staff were very accommodating and everyone was happy with their meal choices. It was freshly prepared and tasty with a number of interesting items on the menu to choose from. My only complaint was the quality of the sangria - it was more like a punch and the maraschino cherry was a poor addition.

New Favorite Dallas Restaurant

By May-lonne |

Amazing pozole. Vegetarian dishes out of this world. Like Rick Bayless' restaurants, but local and reasonably priced. We will be back again and again!

YUMMY

By Larry C |

Had an excellent family dinner here ... both the service and food were great ... would suggest a bit larger table for a family of 4 ....

Awesome lunch

By Cbryantx |

My bff and I have a weekly standing lunch date and she chose mesomaya since we were looking for a New Mexican restaurant to try. Right off the bat the chips tasted freshly made and the hot sauce was delish. We ordered guacamole and split a brisket taco lunch. I'm glad we split because the portions were huge. All the food was fresh and the tortillas were out of this world! I've never said that about a Mexican restaurant before they were that good! Only negative I can say is the prices were high for Mexican and lunch but the food made up for that

Omg! Awesome food!

By Caroline G |

The food is more traditional to Latin American food, at least some of the appetizers. There chicarron was to died for!! Wanted it the next day for breakfast. The corn tamale was so delicious too. They have excellent margaritas. I recommend the avocado margarita and the mojitos are excellent too. Ask for Eric, he is awesome. The after dinner Mexico coffee was very good too.

Lunch with co works

By yummyreviews2016 |

Chips were good but salsa really hot and the ice tea was not good , but they said they were famous for it?!?to each his own.the guacamole was good

If u are looking for an upgrade

By Namie78 |

If u are looking for an upgrade mexican good (beside taquerias-which I think are sooo good) this is your place. Their tacos con chicharrón are good! Also I recommend their beans (side dish) with rice... it really has that home cooking flavor!!! I wish they ask us the order of our dishes if we want them all together or one after another... and yes.... tables for 2 are little bit too small !! With two platters and drinks there’s no space for other dishes!!! Please!! Make them little bit bigger!!! But in general it’s a god experience....

A wonderful restaurant to frequent if in Dallas

By Kegan2e |

My girlfriend and I had a very nice experience. Our server, Gabby, was quite attentive and made our dining experience a pleasurable one. I also enjoyed the free taco sample the manager provided us with. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Great Food...Great Service

By Hdbaum0723 |

The food is excellent. The drinks were also fantastic. I highly recommend this restaurant. The menu is quite extensive and has options for everyone.

Mesomaya

By Mike A |

The food and service was great. The manager stopped by our table to greet us and gave us complementary appetizer. Definitely a place to visit when in Dallas. The margaritas are as good as Glorias.

Very good Mexican Food with some unique dishes

By ERL972 |

First trip to Meso Maya and we will return. The food was very good and the chips were fresh with good salsa. The service was excellent and the parking easy to find. The price was a little higher than many Mexican food restaurants but worth it.

Excellent food and service!

By ACJAG |

Made a reservation, but we didnt need it. We told the waitress it was our first time there and requested suggestions. Manager showed up with a free sample of tortillas and guacamole, which was awesome! Kids had quesadilla that were also loved by them. Hubby had tacos and he pretty much ate the plate! Great place for a nice family or even romantic dinner.

Not authentic

By Asha S |

Good service. Chips and salsa were ok. The food isn’t authentic Mexican. Can’t even categorize it as TEx-mex. More like a modern interpretation. If you have eaten authentic Mexican food say from El Paso then this is not for you. The ambience is good. Service is good. Drinks were good too.

Good take on better mexican

By BigTeddyDub |

This restaurant was referred to me by a business partner and it did not disappoint. The blue corn brisket enchiladas were tasty as were the black beans. The Mexican cream corn is amazing and should not be missed. Service was good.

Budin Azteca Pollo Delicious!

By Kevin W |

Enjoyed dinner at the bar tonight. The chips and salsa are super crunchy and the salsa is roasted very nicely! I had an avocado margarita and the Budin Azteca pollo - very interesting dish. Nice decor, good service, good place.

A Valentine Day Dissapoitment

By bwannan |

I usually write a review immediately after a visit to a hotel or a restaurant but I was so disappointed, I decided to wait and take my emotions out of the review because I was not at all happy with what was to be a romantic Valentines Day dinner. I called for a reservation and was told we’d have to be there by 5:45pm because they were so heavily booked. I even spoke with the manager to see if he could do better. He bumped it up to 6:00pm. We got their on time only to find the pace almost empty. In fact by the time we left at about 7:00pm, it was barley half full. For dinner we went with the house recommendations 100%. The soup was delicious except the main course came after having one spoonful of soup! I was surprised to say the least and asked why they were serving the main course so fast. We got a feeble excuse and decided to go ahead and start rather main course and finish the soup later. Guess what? The fish was way over cooked and the portion was tiny. We called the waiter over and told him that the meal was unacceptable. He took the plate and a short while later, a manager showed up with, you guessed it, another bowl of soup to fill in the time. At least I got to enjoy the soup this time. Some time later a new entree was delivered. Sad to say while the portion was correct, this time it was way under cooked. I love sushi but this didn’t solve the problem. As time was marching on and we had other commitments later that evening, I ate the part around the edge that was cooked ok. We decided to cut our losses and pass on desert or anything else. I paid the bill in full (mistake!). This all ended when we were leaving, the place was about half full so why the 6:00pm start time. Overall, a really bad experience. We thought this place would be a winner but it wasn’t. Try at your own risk.

Great food

By Jay Patel |

We decided to go to this place per the recommendation of one of the nice staff members of the Cooper hotel and Spa where we were staying. This restaurant is located in a strip mall with a bunch of different restaurants. We were greeted and seated right away. The decor is nice and seats are comfortable. Our server was friendly and informative. He suggested we start with Ceviche Mixto. It was flavorful and delicious. We shared the Pollo Serano. The chicken was moist and juicy and the flavors meld well. We were really happy with the food and will return again.

Authentic Mexican Cuisine

By drjlmurad |

Having taught in a Mexican Medical School for thirty summers, I feel I can give an honest evaluation of true Mexican cooking. This food is very tasty and offers a good variety of choices. Mexican friends were visiting in Dallas and we took them to five here and they loved it. Enough said !!

Amazing meal!

By jeanne E |

We were greeted and seated promptly, and the manager came over to offer us a complimentary appetizer which was delicious. Our meal, recommended by our server, was fabulous. Dessert was a chocolate cake with corn ice cream and it also was quite decadent. We will definitely be back. Wonderful ambiance, delicious food, welcoming staff-what more could you ask?

Outstanding food, great service

By Traveler-Kaye |

This was the perfect place to eat after visiting the Mayan exhibit at the Perot Museum. My parents and I had lunch here for the first time and were very impressed. After listening to our server's suggestions, we chose to get 2 of the signature lunch dishes - the pork (cochinita pibil) and the chile relleno topped with carnitas, and I ordered the shrimp tacos. We were not disappointed. I had a sample of the pork and it was melt-in-your mouth good. My mother thought the relleno was the best she's ever had. The shrimp tacos were delicious - accented with cabbage, mango, tomato and cilantro. Even the rice and the beans had very nice flavors. If you go, I absolutely recommend that you try the blueberry skillet cake. I usually don't get dessert at lunch, but everything else was so good we decided to give it a go. The cake was amazing! Yum! I'll have to bring hubby there sometime so he can try it, too. Our server, Pablo, was fantastic. He was friendly and helpful and made the experience even better. I would definitely recommend this place!

Lunch Time

By Isaac s |

This was my first time visiting this place. It was during lunch. I sat down at the bar, cause it was packed and I was alone. The bartender Sarahi, was very polite and knowledgeable about the menu items. I asked for her recommendation and she provided me with her three top options. I chose the Budin azteca, with beef. So she brough tout the chips, and salsa. The chips were still very warm, and the salsa was very tasty. It was fire roasted with a great taste, but not very spicy. I did not know they actually made their own tortillas, so when I did find out, I asked for half an order. And man let me tell you the tortillas were very good. When my plate came out, I enjoyed it and actually cleaned all my pate, that is how good it was.

Traditional Mexican Food

By Holly W |

Loved the chips & salsa and margaritas. My husband and I ordered Del Mar Enchiladas and Brisket Enchiladas. Both were good, but the Del Mar has to much lime flavor for my tastes. They also serve rice, black beans and arugula. The three of those together have an amazing flavor. Will definitely try and reproduce this at home. That was a wonderful discovery for me!

Good food and service

By Kaptx |

All around good, but nothing spectacular. The queso and guacamole appetizers were good, but have had better. The pezole verde was very good. The chicken salad was good, just needed more avocado dressing. The mole and enchiladas were good, again not great. Decent service with a polite server.

No reservation? Off to the kids section with you.

By AVGTXN |

Good Friday night just before 6p. Easy parking in front. A well-dressed married couple asks for a table. When asked if we have a reservation, and we say 'No," we're escorted through a 3/4 empty main dining room to the low-ceilinged, dark back room. There, nothing but families with small children. When we leave less than an hour later, the main high-ceilinged dining room is maybe 2/3 full with mostly younger patrons and maybe one child. Our food? The Budin Azteca Vegetales was undercooked zucchini chunks surrounding a tasteless, stacked square of tortillas and cheese. My wife's tacos were standard fare. MM is also about the only place in town to charge for a side of corn tortillas ($3 for 4). We passed. Service was attentive. We've been here for years and had great experiences. Now, given the plethora of Mexican restaurants in town, including other Mess Maya locations, we won't be returning to this one.

Yum

Nice place, good friendly service and a nice different take on Mexican food...definitely worth trying

Old World Mexican

By PGAPRO2006 |

Excellent world class Mexican. This is NOT Tex Mex. This is authentic Castilian Hand made from scratch cuisine. Nice Tapas, and drink selection. Patio dining And the fact you can make reservations is a plus.

Excellent

By Brian W |

Free avocado tacos for my family of four as a "welcome and enjoy your first visit with us" appetizer, excellent food, and great service. I'm glad we stumbled across this place.

Food was not good

By russkwtx |

Let me start by saying that Meso Maya is one of our favorite restaurants in Dallas and we have been at least two dozen times, including half a dozen times to this location. This most recent experience, however, was not good. I have ordered the Del Mar enchiladas several times at the downtown location and it is one of my favorites ($17). It is supposed to be two enchiladas with delicate seafood inside, topped with a tomatillo cream sauce. It is supposed to be light and very flavorful. This visit yielded something completely different. What I got was two tortillas folded in half, smothered (swimming) in tomatillo sauce that was so salty it was on the edge of inedible. It was nothing short of horrible. I should have sent it back but I was so hungry that I did not want to wait longer. The shrimp inside were so overcooked it was like eating little stones. The whole thing was a disaster. There was not one thing that was good about it. We also tried the queso fundido and it was ok but also super salty and greasy. Would not get that again. I can't say that service was attentive, but it was ok because we were not in a big hurry. I don't know if they had an off night or have new cooks who are inexperienced, but I am not in a hurry to return to this location.

Excellent food and service

By Miguel R |

Not your Tex-Mex of cuisine but rather an original flare with fresh ingredients. The Avocado Margarita was a hit.

Great Lunch!

By cooker72 |

Stopped in for a quick lunch…was yummy! Their drink special was a Coconut Lime Margarita and it was delicious! Freshly made guacamole with great chips was delicious. We had Toastitos for our entree….combination of nachos and small chalupas…very tasty! Love their ambiance…friendly staff!

Perfection! Best Mexican Restaurant!

By Arthur225NYC |

There were 4 in our party and we all loved the food and service. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and with his suggestions we had an excellent meal. Stick with the regular Margherita!

Great Food!!

By TheCATraveler |

Good: Tasty food, good drinks, nice atmosphere Cons: Spicier Salsa and Location is odd (in suburban strip-mall)

Good mexican food!

By CHRISTENPOMPA |

The price is good for the place and the food. This is an above average real mexican food. Not outstanding. However I will come back for the carne asada or the salmon. I think they over use oil in some of their recipies.

Date Night Delight

By Barbara S |

We took friends here after reading a review. The experience didn't disappoint. Having been raised in the culture I'm a critic when it comes to Mexican fare. This was the best meal lately. My drink the Dama was Devine. The flavors combined were perfection. My enchiladas had squash blossom filling and the striped bass was seasoned to perfection. Our desert coffee was the perfect end to the meal. We will return here often.

Elevated Mexican food, Elevated prices

By Txoutdoorsman |

Good atmosphere; open and spacious. Service was very good. The food is well seasoned, but oily. Someone in the kitchen has a heavy hand. I expected the charred brussel sprouts to be roasted...not deep fried. One bite was like eating a sponge of oil. Will not be going back. As for this price, I can have perfectly prepared fare at several north dallas eateries.

Best true Mexican in town.

By seriousdiver |

Run by the El Fenix folks, this a Central/Southern Mexican food versus Tex-Mex. The brisket tacos are my favorite, with a side of chopped serranos. Try the avocado margarita. Lush and smooth. Execution and quality vet consistent tho it can be packed on weekend nights with an hour wait. Make sure you hit opentable for a reservation then. All other times you can normally walk in. My favorite Mexican restaurant in Dallas.

Interesting Avocado Margarita - Outstanding Carne Asada

By DallasTexasfan |

Had to try the avocado margarita. Interesting. May need to try it again. I think it might be an acquired taste. I had a salmon dish served with brussel sprouts. Very different experience for a mexican restaurant. My husband ordered the carne asada which was outstanding.

New and different

By J B |

Authentic Mexican food. Excellent menu. Food is very good and service prompt, courteous and efficient. They are doing something right as the place was jammed. Reservations highly recommended.

Enjoyed it!

By Nelly805 |

Hubby and I had a Friday date night at Mesomaya, while visiting Dallas. We had drinks and a couple of appetizers: Queso Poblano and Chicharrones, and we shared an entree: Cochinita Pibil. The food was very flavorful, and the ambience was nice. The staff was very attentive and friendly. We recommend making a reservation if you will be visiting for dinner on the weekend.

Awesome

By edieann |

We're from Colorado and travel in the SW a lot. Have had lots of Mexican food and its varitions but this was amazing! Unique! No tomato based salsa and so so chips. A melange of roasted peppers, onions, garlic and tomato are brought to the table when you are seated and this salsa is WOW! So are the chips. We had guacamole and ceviche as appetizers (huge servings and totally fantastic). We shared cochinita pibil with habanero salsa and couldn't even begin to finish it all (fortunately I happen to love leftovers). Scrumptious!!! AND we ordered plantain which were the best we have ever had. (Also took lots home with us) Even if the food had been so-so I would return because the wait staff were FANTASTIC: Friendly, accurate, prompt and soo helpful. A terrific night out👍👍👍

Not your typical Tex-Mex

By bvmoon |

Our family loves this place. It is not your typical Tex-Mex. It is more authentic Mexican dishes... many I can't even begin to pronounce but I have tried several entrees and have yet to be disappointed. Awesome chips and Sausa to boot.

My Favorite Mexican Place!

By Pablo M |

This place has it all. Good food good cocktails good service and a good atmosphere. The food is authentic Mexican food. You have to try the avocado margarita. Home made tortillas are something!

Great food and service for party of 8

By atl_trav917 |

I have had inconsistent experiences with me mesomaya but must say this meal was superb in all respects, had not been in over a year so will come more often going forward. Margaritas, both house and top shelf were great, guacamole to die for, all entrees very good, carne asada, seafood enchiladas and releno were standouts. And service was just outstanding.

Nice, a bit upscale Mexican

By GaryGTX |

I had lunch there with two business colleagues and we all enjoyed our meals. The brisket enchilada and tacos were great. Good location near the Perot Museum, next to Woodall Rogers, with lots of parking available.

Don't miss out!

By Tony S |

Holy fark! This place is amazing. Really nice atmosphere coupled with delicious food? You cannot lose. I had the carnitas plate, it was very nice. One of the only places I've been that makes their corn tortillas on site. You need to.check this iff of your list b

Old style authentic Mexican food!

By Lorry T |

I visited with my daughter and her boyfriend on a Saturday for lunch. We found the parking very easy on a Saturday. The food is excellent! We started with ceviche which was very good. The top shelf margarita was great and each of us enjoyed our food. I had the Del Mar seafood enchiladas. They were tasty with large grilled whole shrimp inside the enchiladas. I would definitely recommend MesoMaya.

Good Food So-so Service

By rslot |

Fantastic mole pollo enchiladas last night after the Mavs game. Always a fun, energetic and social crowd at this restaurant. Service could have been a little better...seems like the staff were more focused on closing chores at 10 pm (an hour before close) rather than serving the dozen tables with people eating/drinking.

Excellent 👍🏻

By Alma A |

I have a very good taste in my mouth, excellent service, food 100% recommended, service 10 out of 10, very attentive and friendly staff, ask for Roudel, it has the best recommendations, one of the best pork chops I have ever tried (tomahaw chop) it really makes you feel at home

Totally Awesome MESOMAYA!

By goddess a |

[My receipt says 1611 McKinney Avenue] Beautiful decor, lovely indoor & outdoor courtyard seating, excellent service (especially great bartendress) delicious fresh guacamole & proper ceviche, well-stocked bar of tequila and impressive mescal selection. Highly recommended!

Great Food - Drinks good but overpriced

By PC Foodie |

Had some apps and dinner; all food got great reviews. I had the mole sauce on the enchiladas - very good! Had the guac - solid as well. Service was good and attentive. Drinks were good though overpriced - had two types of margaritas - the traditional and some Nuevo style one - I'd stick with the original. Atmosphere inside is nice - though fro the outside it is in strip mall. Has a cool factor to it. Overall I'd go back again.

Tasty but Spicy

By KellyMYYZ |

Had a great dining experience at MesoMaya last week with a group of friends and it was really nice. Great atmosphere, tasty fresh guacamole. I ordered the chicken enchiladas but they were too spicy for my liking. Tried some fish tacos and they were tasty I would definitely return and suggest this restaurant to anyone visiting Dallas

Wow!

By UndertheStars |

Fantastic service, great food and the perfect atmosphere. We stayed over in Dallas on on way back to Phx and stopped in to this little place on Sunday evening. The chips were fresh, salsa was excellent and the ice tea was some of the best! Everything was just YUMMY! This restaurant is now on our MUST STOP and eat list when we are in town! Really wish they would open one of these here in the Phoenix area!

Friendly service

By travelingtexas2019 |

Interesting menu with unique choices. Good atmosphere. 2 out of 3 entrees ordered were a bit too salty, particularly the brisket enchilada.

This is what high end Mexican really is!

By Craig H |

I don't think this is authentic like the last review, it is MUCH better. I usually don't like corn tortillas, but the home made tortillas here are fantastic. Paired with White cheese queso and it is Out of this World. The staff was excellent. The place was packed but I was able to get a table on Open Table. The location is wonderfully close to the Galleria and my favorite hotel The Cooper.

Yum

By lorit5 |

Ate here twice in one week. Both times I had the chili rolleno. Delic! It comes with a hunk of roast that is wonderful. Also loved the guacamole and the mojito.

More than the standard mexican

By Paula H |

Loved the variety in the menu here. The fundido appetizer was really good. Guacamole was very fresh, tortillas house made, Sangria and margaritas perfect. Service was great. We were catching up with friends so requested slow service and were nicely accommodated to the end. Would definitely recommend.

Love ths Salsa

By Jessica C |

Wonderful food, very tasting. Dessert was just OK. But fun environement, very popluar with the local.

Really loud and crowded

By Leslie_Chi |

A group went to this restaurant on a Tuesday night. Thank goodness we had made a reservation because it was packed. As a result, it was very loud, and couples were hovering next to our table while waiting for theirs. Definitely made conversation difficult. Most of us felt the food was a little too salty, but I did enjoy my carne asade, which was cooked just the way I like.

Lunch at its Best

By Marsha K |

Looking for something new - as I'm in charge of selecting our weekly lunch spots. Always for and adventure. I tried the brisket tacos - more food than you can imagine with a side of guacamole, so creamy and flavorful. The manager heard it was our first time and came over and talked about the restaurants origin and foods, very impressed. All the food was fresh and light! Will be returning...

What an amazing meal

By NJFUtah1 |

This is the place for real Mexican food. Not Tex-Mex (there is a difference in style, and flavor) I like Tex-Mex as well but this is real flavors and recipes of family cooking. The Pollo con Mole was awesome as well as the DelMar enchiladas. They were prepared and served with great pride and care by Joseli (who was a true ambassador of knowledge, service and personality). The management team came to the table twice to assure we were pleased with our food. To top it off we had the Pastel de Chocolate which with the sweet corn ice cream was very very good and is worth the trip to Mesomaya by itself. I wish I lived in Dallas so I could come back all of the time.

Great upscale Mexican Food with some real standouts, Fun ambiance

By Don P |

This is an upscale Mexican restaurant that is crowded with lively folks on a Saturday night enjoying the food and friends, fun ambiance. The salsa is quite tasty with a smokey flavor and some heat, chips are OK. My favorite meal is to get a cup of soup, Sopa de Lima, and the Carne Asada. The Sopa de Lima has really good cilantro flavor. The Carne Asada is consistently excellent with the steak tender and savory and it comes with black beans and a corn tamale (little sweet). My wife will get a bowl of Sopa de Lima and the excellent Betabeles Salad (large salad with beets and heart of palms). The shots of tequila are good quality and come with a spicy tomato chaser. Adding a house Margarita on top of that is tasty too.

Excellent mexican and tequila selection

By adrah |

Probably the best modern mexican in Dallas downtown. The menu is limited, but everything in it was top selection. Good wide variety of tequila to taste. Service was very prompt and efficient. But the star of the rest is the food. delicious. Need reservation.

Good but not perfect

By Jesse D |

Downtown location located between busy streets, but has valet parking. Staff was friendly and service was excellent - almost too fast. However the food was not up to the level I expected. The ceviche had little flavor and was very chunky, the guacamole also had little flavor - it was very bland. The pulled pork many course was very good.

Good food

By Damil |

Eat the cochinita pibil and wife eat the salmon con coco; both plates were very good. Food is well presented and delicious, prices are fair.

Great Mexican Food in Welcoming Environment

By Kate K |

Just had a great brunch/lunch at Mesomaya with extended family. We were a party of 13 (including 3 babies) and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming. Great guacamole and tacos, especially the Carne (steak) tacos and the camarones (shrimp) tacos. Margaritas were pretty good too. Make a reservation (at least if you are a big party because the line to get in was long when we left.)

Great food - great service - reasonably priced

By mitchand |

We were in town for a wedding and grabbed lunch here with about 16 in our party. Tried to tip the hostess for the hassle of getting us all seated together and the tip was graciously folded back into my hand with the comment "its part of our job". Service for our large party was excellent. The food was outstanding. I was able to sample a number of the entrees and they were all very, very good. It was so good that we managed to fit in another visit during our brief stay (with another larger group) and it was a repeat of our earlier excellent experience.

Great everything!

By 902MargaritaN |

A girlfriend and I came to Dallas for a concert and we picked MesoMaya because it was close to the venue and had great reviews. We were NOT disappointed! The food was great. The margaritas were great. The guacamole was great. The service was great. They were super busy (wait time was 2 hours) and our waitress still come by multiple times to check on us. Tips: Get the carne asadas and the mango margarita, and make a reservation.

Drinks & Relleno

By Linda H |

We were at dinner recently at the new Plano location and had the most delicious drinks and Chile Relleno EVER!!! You've got to check it out!!

Great Selection with a Twist on Tex-Mex

By TC4chow |

The menu has a nice selection and something for everyone. All 6 of us had a variety of meals from queso to salmon, and all had a good dish. Service was attentive and quick even though they were very busy on a weeknight. It tends to get loud when they are full, but the booth helped to talk among our group pretty easily. Drinks are a little pricey, and especially the wine. Have been once before and will go again. It is always a good experience.

Interesting Meal

By Ghost |

We had a very nice family lunch at MesoMaya, which has a Mexican food with a distinctly different flavor. The members of our party who got dishes with seafood were very pleased. I had ordered the budin(?) but would choose something different on a future visit.

Overall good choice

By mrandmrshill |

Honestly, opted to eat here to keep 33K American A/L miles from expiring, and it was fairly close to home. Were mostly pleased. Four adults and one toddler ate for $148 with tax & tip - a bit steep: one drink each (milk for baby boy), no appetizers, meal each, no dessert. My Posole Verde soup was excellent. Husband enjoyed Short Rib Relleno, although was surprised that short rib meat was not in relleno, but on side. Other two adults had Brisket Enchilada and Cochinita Pibil. Both enjoyed, although did not find either too memorable. Server - Fanny - was pleasant, knowledgable, attentive. She tried to entrap baby boy into chocolate cake, which did not come with his meal. Pretty good ploy, but adults caught onto it. Not happy about it, nevertheless. Also, charged for margarita husband didn't like, after told we wouldn't be charged for it, but didn't catch it until got home. Not happy about that either. Would we go again? Probably. Site is old Chili's location. Designers did fantastic job of covering to Meso Maya.

Lunch Was Wonderful

Nice menu of not your same old Tex Mex! Service was outstanding. Servings were plentiful as well as delicious. Nice decor and not noisy!

Great Carne Asada

Different Take on Mexican Food

By Lola2012 |

Stopped by Meso Maya for dinner and it did not disappoint. Luckily, they are on Open Table so I was able to get a reservation as they are quite busy. The food has a Smokey and earthy taste to it, which I found interesting and a nice variant to other Mexican food I’ve had. My husband and I both had the enchiladas, I had the chicken and he had the brisket. Both were very flavorful, really enjoyed it.

Enjoy MesoMaya Dallas!

By Karen L |

Our search for dining in Dallas found us at Meso Maya. How lucky were we! The restaurant food, location, ambiance, and service are all excellent! Ciro is excellent! Ask for him. Enjoy!

good lunch spot

By cindy w |

I have been here several times for girls lunches. Good menu selection, good food, and the staff is not bothered by a long lingering lunch.

Fantastic dinner

By Sonwatcher |

We come to Cooper Clinic every year for physicals. I wish we had known about this restaurant years ago! We will make this place a regular. Not only was the food excellent the hospitality and service was next to none. The hostess, Sophia, that seated us was kind, hospitable and informative. Our waiters were Eric and Salvador, both were professional, kind and personable. We could not have asked for better atmosphere. Then, the food was exceptional! We had guacamole and Queso for appetizers. Both were perfect. We both had the Carne Asada, with black beans and sweet corn tamale. I could could not have been any better prepared. I cannot recommend this place strongly enough!!!!

My favorite neighborhood gem.

By TXHotelSnob |

I love MesoMaya and go there all the time. It is a bit pricey, but the quality is fantastic. This is not a greasy Mexican food type of place. The corn tortillas are made fresh to order and everything is truly delicious. The service is good. Their cocktails are fabulous - I highly recommend the cucumber margarita for a refreshing summer drink!

Eclectic Mexican Delight!

By DavidAdamsTX |

We were looking for something different for a Mexican dinner, so we referred to Tripadvisor and found MesoMaya. And we were not disappointed. The restaurant was located at a strip mall, but as we approached the entrance, we could already tell it was going to be different. There was interesting floor tile leading up to the door, coupled with the bare bulb lights above and the grand doors. The foyer was tastefully decorated, and we were properly greeted and seated. The room has interesting low light decor, with plenty of room. The wait staff was prompt, polite and courteous. We ordered the guacamole with the standard chips and salsa, we were impressed with the fresh delicious taste. You can often judge how the food will rate in a Mexican restaurant by this alone! I was amused how our iced teas were presented, a perfectly balanced spoon on each glass. I ordered one of the specialty meals, the Short Rib Relleno. The egg-battered chile relleno filled with queso was delicious. The short rib was done perfectly, and had a mild tasty dark sauce to compliment (chile pastilla). The rice was perfectly done. My wife had the tacos del la casa, and was also very impressed. I usually do not give Mexican restaurants a 5 rating, but this one was well deserved! I definitely plan to return.

Simply Fantastic!

By Kimberly J |

I had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant while visiting Dallas with a friend. We were immediately met by a warm greeting and seated. Our server Joseli was fantastic and provided excellent patron service. He was knowledgeable about every item on the menu and passionate about his job. After taking our order and bringing out our water, chips and salsa arrived at the table along with Bobby, who brought fresh guacamole in a warm corn tortilla. You talk about a palate pleasure...my taste buds were getting excited;) my friend and I both ordered the cerrano berry margarita and harudurra salmon. Let me just say this...THE CLOUDS OPENED UP AND POURED US OUT A BLESSING!!!!! The drink offered my mouth a little confusion by teasing me with the sweetness of muddled strawberries and then waking me up with the spice of the cerrano pepper. The salmon was cooked to perfection and tequila glaze offered a tasty surprise. The brussel sprouts were nice and tender and the butter cream sauce magnificent. Ari, the bar manager then came and checked on us to see how we were enjoying our meal...which what can I say....we were!! I would highly recommend you visit this restaurant if you are in the downtown Dallas area. You will not be disappointed.

Mexican at its finest!

By meektina |

This place is awesome. Great appetizers and the entrees are unique and very tasty! Great atmosphere. Full bar and drinks are delicious.

Lighting

By Norm |

The lighting in this restaurant is so dim you can't read the menu. I've eaten their twice and had to pull out a flashlight or cell phone to read the menu.

Solid place and very busy

By u2fan56 |

I went to Meso Maya recently for dinner. Nice place and good prices and food. Very busy so make reservation on weekend night. Nice wine list with Texas wines. Recommend quest and mole dishes. Will be back.

We tried this for the first time and omg it was great the food was so flavorful and the servers were fast and friendly definitely a great restaurant

PARTY OF 20! LOVE THIS PLACE! AUTHENTIC YUCATAN CUISINE.

By jeannekat_13 |

I have traveled to Belize several times and really like the food. MesoMaya is the next best thing. I chose the pork pibil, one of my favorite dishes and was not disappointed. I sampled the brisket and the chili relleno both were very good. Guacamole was great and the mild roasted green salsa was the best I have ever had. Very good alcohol selection WILL BE BACK.

Always good, different flavors

By Don |

It’s a little pricey but you get some different, in-TexMex flavors here that are really nice. Service is good, and chips/salsa is good! Try the Del Mar enchiladas!!

Tired of cooking!

By Shf40 |

They did a great job with curbside friendly service. Had my family order ready and met me at the car. Even had my margarita bagged separately! Thanks Meso Maya - I’m tired of cooking!!

Interesting and delicious!

By bb1762 |

Beautiful and different than most Mexican restaurants around Texas. I loved it all, but especially the roasted salsa and the Brussels sprouts.

A definite recommendation

By William V |

Food was excellent and so was the service. The avocado margarita is very good. You would not think it would be good but you would be surprised. Everyone’s dinner was excellent. The marinated steak was a hit. Go here and enjoy your evening.

Not to be missed!

By 1SharpGent |

We chose Meso Maya on the suggestion of a friend. We needed a restaurant near Preston and 635, and having never been here before, I assumed it was your stereotypical Tex-Mex joint. I was wrong. The four of us had excellent, friendly service, but who cares. The food. Oh my, the food. We had a spread of different selections among us, but the highlights were the Pollo Fresca and Pollo Budin Azteca. The Pollo Fresca chicken was moist and cooked to perfection. The zoodles and vegetables with it made the dish feel even healthier. I only had a bite, but it was delicious! I had the Pollo Budin Azteca, which is a layered tortilla dish with sauce and greens. The sauce was sweet, with a salty lemon finish. The chicken pieces stacked on top of the layered tortillas were all grilled and juicy. The actual layered "cake" beneath the chicken, however, was the star of the show. Much like a sponge, the "cake" absorbed the sauce and made each bite better than the last. It was so good, I know I'll come back and get the Budin Azteca with stead or maybe even the shrimp. Great food. Great service. Great lunch experience. I highly recommend.

Fabulous Flavor

By loa337 |

Went with a group of 10 midday. Took about 15 mins for a table. The table chips were thick and earthy, the charred salsa had a little bit of heat: both are excellent! Our group had the Mexican lasagna with Carne Asada - very flavorful, posole verde- authentic, Chile relleno - delicious and huge. Brussel sprouts had a little heat but good flavor, guacamole was good. Etole (corn) crema had some heat too. Service was good, not outstanding but good. Would happily recommend to anyone looking for Mexican outside the routine.

Great margaritas service and food

I love to bring out if state folks to mesomayo. You can count on great fresh food, excellent drinks and service.

Good food and excellent service

By matthewsharris |

We went here for brunch after church. The service was very good. Food came out really fast, the wait was very attentive and friendly towards our needs. I got the mexican toast, definitely recommend...basically french toast with fruit and vanilla cream cheese.

Great interior Mexican Food

By richardwklusmann |

This is the best interior Mexican food I've eaten anywhere! The restaurant is large but a reservation is necessary. It's always crowed for dinner. There is valet parking which is necessary if you are driving. We will go there again when we are in Dallas.

Multiple visits

Overall the food is solidly good and the queso is excellent and service tends to be good to very good. On weekends they have a very limited brunch and the Mexican fried bread is worth having, really worth having.

Good food, Great service!

We made a reservation through Open Table and were seated immediately. We ordered their queso which was very good. I had a grilled bone in pork chop with elote (corn) with crema. It was very good as well and was hot when brought out. My wife had the carne with potatoes. It was good as well. I will say all the dishes seem to be spicy. Service was excellent.

Wonderful Dinner

My wife and I travel from Oklahoma to Dallas once a year for our annual physicals at Cooper Clinic. When we get here, we make a point of eating at MesoMaya. It is always wonderful! I had the Carne Asada, my wife has the pork chop. We ordered the homemade guacamole appetizer. The food was impeccable! But not only that, Rueben, our waiter treated us as if we were royal guests visiting his establishment. Always friendly and attentive. What a wonderful experience... AGAIN!

Very authentica mayan mexican fare...unique, good service, excellent margs

We lived in Mexico for several years and know the difference between authentic Mexican versus TexMex. This is authentic Mayan and Oaxacan cuisine. Nice atmosphere. Excellent service. One of the best swirls I've had in this area. Queso was excellent to start with. I tried the traditional dish of Budin Azteca Pollo, which is a layered corn tortilla cheese dish with green sauce and chicken...we also ordered the chicken tacos and loved them but they were spicier.

Favorite Mexican Restaurant in Dallas

I've been here twice now for lunch. Went again yesterday and took my wife for lunch. The food and service is fantastic. I've never been willing to try guacamole until going here the first time and my server talked me into it - instantly feel in love with it! My wife was the same way and yesterday was her first time to MesoMaya and I ordered the guac and told her she had to try it and she did and also instantly fell in love. Highly recommend and can't wait for my next lunch there!

Tasty food and efficient service for business lunch

Love the Lunch Special -- good price with great choices. Comes with salad or soup (house salad or Sopa de Lima are delicious), 1 taco (brisket or shrimp are my faves), and black beans & rice. Always great. I've eaten here 20+ times for lunch and dinner. Food is satisfying but not too heavy/saucy like a Tex Mex place would be.

Dined With A Small Group

The MesoMaya was excellent. The people were so friendly. We felt so welcomed as the manager, Fernando (I hope I got this right, sorry if I didn't, because you are the best) delivered to our table complimentary avocado tortilla appetizers because we were first time visitors. He checked with us 3 times as to whether we were satisfied. We all enjoyed the selections we ordered as everything was freshly made and delicious. When we were leaving, he met us at the door and thanked us for visiting MesoMaya.

What a place!

From the beginning this was a great experience. The server, Arnold, was very personable, explaining things. Very helpful! The food was served quickly and delicious. Arnold was attentive without being in our face. What a great experience! And don't forget to get dessert, you won't be sorry.

So yummy!

My husband and I walked from our hotel downtown and had an amazing meal! I got the Carne Asada and he got the authentic pork dish, Cochinita Pibil! I also got an avocado margarita, and you have to get the chocolate cake with corn ice cream! Everything was so good, we just wish we lived closer so we could visit more often!

Great Food!

The food is amazing and the alcohol beverage choices are amazing too. Our waitress is the only reason I'm giving this a less than 5 star. She is very complacent (not bad, just complacent). I would definitely return - bc I don't live here!

Outstanding/Excellent!!!!

Outstanding Food, Drinks & Service

Finally, a Mexican restaurant that has it right. You might not recognize all of the food, but that is because it is decidedly Yucatecan in style. After living in the Yucatan for a while, I can tell you that the food is much better than northern Mexico. Forget Tex-Mex Gringo traps with unhealthy and drab food. Go to MesoMaya and have a quality experience with delicious food. Try the cochinita pibil and the sopa de lima, and have a true, healthy, Mexican experience. Great place.

Fresh corn tortillas!

Great food and great service! I ate here mainly just because I had a nearby 1 pm appointment, and I needed to grab a quick lunch. Very good service and great food! Not your typical Tex-Mex, instead it's really Mexican food. The corn tortillas are made fresh daily from corn that they grind themselves. So delicious.

Love the food and love the atmosphere

Several of us from out of town decided to give this place a try on a recommendation and it definitely exceeded our expectations. Food was delicious, especially the Chili Relleno and the Ceviche was some of the best. Very relaxed fun environment and tequila was served in these very unique glasses we loved. Cant wait until my bext visit to Dallas.

Excellent Mexican

This place is authentic Mexican. Not to be confused with Tex Mex. I got the Budin Azteca with Chicken. It was very good. The cheese and sauce were excellent.

good for small groups

We were here on a Saturday night....we had reservations and they were very busy. They did a great job. Good service, good sangria, good food. It's quite noisy but workable

Great service, good food

First, the service was outstanding. As to the food, good across the board. Two rellano dishes, enclilados, the salmon salad and the juevos were all enjoyed. Certain discounted drinks at brunch and quite a few gluten free items.

Amazing and truly authentic

I originally wanted to visit the MesoMaya location near Downtown, but we opted for this location. We ordered the cochinita pibil, brisket tacos, and queso poblano. As someone who has lived and traveled extensively around Mexico, I was pleasantly surprised to see how authentic the food was!! I would definitely recommend visiting this place if you want great-quality Mexican food

So Good!

In town on a business trip with other colleagues. The MesoMaya is in a strip mall, but not your average strip mall Mexican restaurant. There were so many dishes that I wanted to try, but I settled on the Short Rib Relleno -- Amazing! Everyone I was with also seemed to enjoy their dinners.

The Best Mexican Food - Ever!

By JDV |

I have lived in San Antonio for over 30 years and thought that we had some of the best Mexican Food in the USA. However, after eating here, I must admit that this is the best I have ever had, anywhere, including my favorites tpin San Antonio. Additionally, the manager, Fernando Gomez, was most gracious and ensured our service was perfect. It's obvious that his attention to detail permeates the throughout the restaurant. There is no question that when in Dallas or even near it I will dine here as my first choice.

Great Food and a Great Staff

By David T |

I had an absolute great experience at this restaurant. I went in a group of 16 people for dinner and the staff were well prepared to serve and provide a great dinner and a wonderful experience for the entire group. It was a Wednesday night in February and the place was packed. Everyone's food in my party was brought out at roughly the same time and it was all piping hot. The food was authentic Tex-Mex with an upscale feel. I would highly recommend this restaurant for dinner or lunch.
