Steakhouse at its best

By 72geraldt |

A high end steak house that is worth the money. While you probably couldn't eat here on a regular basis, if you're looking for something a cut above, this is definitely the place. Amazing steaks done just right.

Best Seattle Steak I’ve had.

By AlaskanVoyagers |

Being our second visit to the restaurant, it was not disappointing. Fantastic appetizers, wine/drink selection, and fantastic steaks. We introduced relatives from overseas to the Metropolitan and they overwhelmingly approved. Service was great, almost too helpful. As is common in many restaurants these days, the noise level is the only thing that was disappointing. I suspect that, if I had requested a quieter area in advance, that they would have accommodated. The prices were what you would expect from a high end, downtown restaurant.

Excellent food and atmosphere

By Prefertobeonvacation |

Nice restaurant in the middle of town. We were in town for a cruise and stopped here for a relaxing lunch. Atmosphere is quiet and relaxing, lunch was delicious with large portions, food done to perfection.

A Fine Night Out

By HappyTraveller |

Unusually for a visit to a restaurant known for its steaks, I chose to eat the seafood. The Lobster Bisque was excellent – creamy rich flavour, beautifully spiced. I followed that with the Crab Cakes, crispy on the outside, delicious. And I confess I finished with the Chocolate Lava Cake; it is outrageously large, and sinfully rich. I look forward to a return visit.

End of night left a bad taste in my mouth

By Rob S |

The Met was always my favorite restaurant in the world and a must do when visiting Seattle. On this visit once again the service was impeccable and food top notch, we were even allowed to order a couple things that used to be on the menu but aren't any longer. At the end of the meal, the bill showed a 20% service charge that was kept by the establishment and not distributed to the staff. This is complete BS. So to reward the staff for excellent service we end up with a tip and service charge at 50% of the meal? It's not like the food is cheap here, that adds up to quite a bill. Then the capper was when we went out to the valet to pick up our car and they asked if we paid inside for the valet. Since the valet checked us into a restaurant with a tablet at the valet stand, I assumed the charges had been entered and the server never asked. So we paid at the valet stand, wondering if we'd been double charged for valet parking. I long for the old ownership.

It Missed the Mark

By JC82010 |

Well, our Fairmont hotel said this was the best steakhouse in Seattle, but for us it missed the mark. Our server guided us badly when we asked advice on the steak. Perhaps he though we didn't want an expensive cut when we were asking about tenderness and flavor. I think we got the cheapest cut which turned out to be over done and tough. The salad was good. But who goes to a steakhouse for the salad? To compensate us for the disappointing steak, the server gave us dessert for free. That was nice, but again, you don't go to a steakhouse for dessert either. Not sure I would go back there if ever in Seattle again.

Unfortunate Birthday Meal

By Eric V |

I reserved a table on 12/7/2024 for a birthday meal for my partner . everything was fine until i got my steak. it was way over cooked although the server recommended that I not get it medium rare. The server immediately took my plate away after I mentioned it was pretty tough. I sat there while my partner finished his meal. He wasn't thrilled about the way his steak was overcooked but didn't mind eating it becuase he was hungry. I wasn't even asked if I wanted another glass of wine or even more water or "How about a salad, while you wait?". We canceled my meal because after 30 minutes it had not shown up. Another table asked if I wanted some of their food. "Yikes" They brought out a complementary birthday dessert but noone said Happy Birthday. Was handed the check and a quick I'm sorry. They charged me for the entire meal minus my steak. NO manager came to speak to us at all. It was apparent that the meal was not a success and the service pretty much stopped after my steak was taken away. I was clearly disappointed and still hungry, but I wasn't going to spend more time in the restaurant while my guest watched me eat my dinner. I got the auto email the next day thanking for dining with them and asked me how it was. I gave a fair and honest review of our evening. I never got a response. It appears they don't care.

Great food!!

By Jay M |

Great experience

By JoArts |

Food was delicious and our host Kim was professional. Wait time was quick as well. We can’t wait to return the next time we are in the area.

Honest and Raw...

By OntheLOW22 |

Unfortunately, I will echo a few other reviews I read re: my meal. First, the positives: we had a great waitress, tons of personality and very attentive. Second, the appetizers were great. Third, I had a great bday dinner spending time with friends. Now the not-so-positives: I ordered the $80 filet and wagu combo and was very excited as we were told this is THE steakhouse in Seattle. Well, my experience is - not so much... My filet was rare and the wagu was overdone. Just bizarre to have such a discrepancy. I had to send the filet back, only to receive about 10 minutes later basically the same. Very disappointing. They were mediocre at best. Pretty much gave me pause to think I should just be pescatarian. One friend had the pork chop which he said was okay, not what he had expected. Others enjoyed their meals but overall I'm bummed I didn't opt for seafood for my celebration instead. (Yep, there's my sign.) Next visit to seattle, and I will read up on reviews ahead of time and inquire more of the locals favorites.

quite pricey with excellent service and food

By SNB |

Stopped by on a Wednesday upon opening at 1100am for lunch. Overall, although quite pricey, the service and food were both excellent. The 8 oz butcher Wagyu steak with shoestring fries was perfectly cooked medium-rare with a nice smokey flavor with fries that were crispy and tasty. The Chophouse Meatloaf was also excellent, tender and tasty served with tasty asparagus and delicious mashed potatoes. We shared a burnt cream for desert which was delicious and also perfectly cooked. Fortunately, our server brought to our attention the 20% service charge automatically included on the bill; however, we did elect to add an additional $10 tip which goes to the server alone. Although quite pricey, especially with the automatic 20% service charge, we will be back because the service and food were both excellent!

Top ten - but no onion rings?!

By Evan R |

I screwed up our reservation but the were able to accommodate us at the bar. A bit of a tight squeeze for 4, but beggars can’t be choosy! The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. Sommelier was very entertaining as well. Asparagus with bernaise sauce, Mac and cheese and clam chowder to share were all incredibly flavorful. I was devastated to learn that they no longer serve the worlds best onion rings! I ordered the NY Strip medium and it was a bit dry and tough - very unusual for The Met. The filet mignonette my wife ordered was “like butter” Great wine list with different price points. Their new policy is for the house to assess a 20% service charge so tipping is extra. This adds to an already pricey meal, even for a top ten steakhouse.

Best Lobster and Steak

By Peter T |

My wife had the Australian Lobster, huge and delicious. I had the American Wagyu filet. What a beautiful place

Great lunch stop

By Ellen4719 |

We had lunch in the bar since the wait for the restaurant was longer than we had time for. We did not have to wait long for a table or our food. The chowder was so good and the temperature was perfect. We shared a spinach salad which was delicious. We had bread-warm with a crusty crust. We also shared a delicious glass of Sauvignon blanc. Service was friendly and efficient. It was a vibrant place and we were so glad we stopped.

A must if in Seattle

By Kelly S |

The Met just gives old steakhouse vibes. The food is always good and the service too. If you can order the bananas foster-Craig makes it Iike no other-so good!

Disappointing.

By Greg S |

The food was good but not great. A lot of the flavor came from an abundance of salt. I have been to other steak houses and the steaks were better. When you pay $300 a couple you expect outstanding. Also, the service was average. They made a mistake on my order and it took a while to fix and no apology was offered. Again, at that price you expect exceptional service. It would have been a better value and evening at about half the price.

Disappointing meal

By sandon55 |

Our table of 8 watched the servers stage meals for our group of 40 for over 10 minutes letting the food get cold and low and behold when meals were delivered the lobster bisque was barely warm. When they delivered the entree the potatoes were also barely warm. The New York strip had so much grissle I could not finish it. Overall a very poor meal for such a highly rated restaurant

Still the best in Seattle

By LPN |

We had outstanding service, delicious steak and phenomenal ambiance at the Metropolitan Grill. Still the best steakhouse in Seattle after all these years.

Lovely Dinner

By katieG212 |

Staff was very friendly, especially the hostess who was most accommodating. Food excellent - my husband enjoyed his steak,. Salmon was delicious. Great salad and appetizers. Will return.

Never again

By Shane S |

I had a very bad experience tonight. I got there at 430pm and after a 95 minute wait, finally got sat at the bar. To be told that they would no longer honor the happy hour pricing, even though it was 6:05 and we waited for an hour and a half for seating. I will never come back here again, I'll tell 10 friends about the poor experience, and my kids and their kids will never be back. Unacceptable.

HIGHLY Recommended: Great Food, Great Service, Amazing Variety

By MikeM |

I've been to a lot of great steakhouses all over the country but what really sets MG apart is the variety. Wagyu beef, bone in cuts, Hokkadio, plus great seafood choices, chicken... they really have it all. My waiter Todd ("Spaddy") recommended the bone-in-ribeye and au gratin potatoes. Both were outstanding, with the steak being flaverful and perfectly cooked. The service was spotless. The interior is also beautiful, with coffered ceilings and wonderful plaster and woodwork, and the manager, Paul Donovan, was kind enough to give me a tour afterwords. It simply could not have been better. Thank you, Metropolitan Grill.

Missed instructions

By robert h |

Great food and service almost but our server missed BIG time on one request. I'm 91 and have swallowing issues and he was informed but failed and ruined my dinner our with family. 1. The French Onion soup was great but only afterI removed the un-chewable cheese. 2. In over eating steak Tartare for 70 years from Paris to Papeete yours takes 1st prize for being the WORST. Salad with STT again unchewable. Bread unchewable. Small serving. if you send me your email to rmhammar@gmail I can send you the servers name

Steak Place

By Maxar |

Steaks were amazing here. Quality of steaks are the best. The wine list is a wine book. 40+ pages of wines.

Excellent dinner

By dunkertons |

For many years it's been a family tradition to eat out an a nice restaurant on Xmas eve. This yeas we chose the Metropolitan Grill. Both food and service were outstanding. I can't say enough for the place Thank to all that made this a Christmas our family will never forget.

Disappointed by Service despite Goodwill Gesture

By Stephen c |

Disappointed by Service despite Goodwill Gesture We were really looking forward to trying this restaurant, but unfortunately, the service experience fell far short of expectations. The meal started off disjointed, with only half the appetizer arriving and needed to ask where the other appetizer was for our other party. The waiter delyed the main meal and shifted the main course, but we felt hurried to get it eaten since he said he would delay the main course. —something that took away from the pacing and enjoyment of the evening. To their credit, they did remove the appetizer charge from the bill, but the staging misstep set an awkward tone. What really left us unsettled, though, was the interaction around a simple drink order. My wife requested a creamy espresso martini, which, in our experience, is a fairly common variation. The host (who also seemed to be bartending or relaying drink orders) responded dismissively, saying that in 15 years of bartending he had never heard of such a thing and that next time she should "just ask for an espresso martini with a dash of Baileys." Not only was this unnecessarily condescending, but it also undermined the guest experience—we don’t expect to be schooled for how we order a drink. To make matters worse, a manager came over, but instead of addressing our concerns seriously, he made light of the situation with jokes that felt more like deflection than genuine customer service and left us wondering if he was the comedian for the night? In the end, the food was decent, but the overall experience left a sour taste. A little hospitality and professionalism would have gone a long way. We won’t be returning.

Special occasion kind of place

By svskaloha |

This was a nice choice for our special occasion dinner. We made a reservation in advance and were seated promptly. Our server was very professional and well informed. Courses were served at a leisurely pace until after dessert when we were ready for our check, which took an eternity for our server to return to the table. Overall it was a very good dining experience, with so many choices nearby however I'm not sure that I would return.

“The Lights Went Out On Broadway”

By Philip G |

I am filled with five star reviews for all the restaurants struggling at this horrendous moment in history, appreciating their effort to do take out. I encourage people with healthy incomes to donate to the funding campaigns created to help restaurants and their employees around the country. You can find them all over the internet. My wife picked up wedge salads, steaks, fries and desserts from The Metropolitan Grill. I couldn’t leave the apartment being under self quarantine with a cough. Everything tasted wonderful, and made me miss going out. It was a Saturday night, and I have only been in Seattle for a month. The city beckons outside my windows, but I can’t partake. No one can. The souls of our cities are in hibernation. Hopefully, urbanity will awaken soon, and we can feel the electricity again. “The lights went out on Broadway.”

Superb

By Patric D |

Tremendous. Just tremendous. This is a stand-out up-scale restaurant ... it does things properly ... and it knows it. We sat in a nice booth creating quite an intimate atmosphere inwhat is a very busy restaurant (so glad we had booked ahead!!) It was a bit of a special dinner, so we ordered the Chateaubriand between us. Perfect. Just perfect in every way. The staff were wonderful, the food is incredible and it has a great atmosphere. It's quite pricey ... but well worth it if you want something that is definitely a cut above

Outstanding

By Minnybill |

We have been to many excellent steak places around the country and if this isn’t the best, it’s right there. Excellent food and service!

Happy Hours visit with Nephew

By Buddy Morris |

Happy Hours with Nephew. Took the 3:00 pm Bremerton Ferry , got to The Metropolitan Grill about 4:15pm. Only 2 blocks straight up from ferry terminal. We sat on n the bar to order off the Happy Hour menu. We ordered crab cakes, Fish and JoJo's, prime rib sandwich, onion rings and Clam chowder (not on Happy Hour menu). The service was excellent 👌, the food was really good. The Happy Hour prices are very nice for the quality of service and Food. I really enjoyed the Fish and JoJo's. Loved the onion rings.(Probably The Best Ever) The crab cakes got smaller than the last time, still delicious.

Not worth the price charged

By jhX3466MB |

This restaurant does not deliver. The price is not comparable to the meal. The wine by the glass is less than 1/3 the glass. While the food is cooked well, it’s not worth the investment the prices demand which is why the gratuity demand of 20% is added to the price of the dinner when pay. Expect a minimum $200 per person whether you order a salad, fish or steak.

A Truly Legendary Gastronomical Experience

By CaseyluvsSophie |

Truly incredible experience! Fantastic from start to finish! Incredible Service from true professionals who take pride in their craft. Sat on the bar side with 4 buddies on a boys road trip from Victoria, BC to see the Kraken v Oilers, Gonzaga v Alabama and Seahawks v 9ers games. Drinks were superb. Great negroni. Many craft beers to choose from along with an impressive wine list. Had the scallop starter which was excellent. Main course 16 ounce Ribeye rare with garlic mash side. Incredible would be an understatement! Can you say "multiple foodgasms!" Absolutely sublime. For dessert we shared the carrot cake and 12 layer chocolate cake. Again, incredible! And so big not even 5 of us could finish them. One of the most amazingly decadent and hedonistic orgies of pure gastronomical pleasure that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing! A must visit while in Seattle. Don't miss it!

I used to go to MetGrill all the time — never again!

By Julie M |

I used to bring new hires at my start up to MetGrill for cocktails after work. I would always lay my company card down to pay for the tab. Then I found out that MetGrill was actually making my new hires pay for the tab, when I had already provided a corporate card. I will NEVER do business with them again. This is a super shady practice, and I have a legitimate worry that MetGrill was charging me and my new hires both for cocktails. Never again will I return to this bar. Super shady.

Wonderful

By Maurice Stanley B |

We had an anniversary dinner at the Met. 40 Oz long bone gold wagyu ribeye.... Fantastic. All the sides were top class with excellent service The 9 layer chocolate cake is an exercise in extravagance and delicious Terrific staff made this a real treat

Old school fine dining

From the teak wood feel to the high partitions to the black tie maitre d, all very old school and the food is great

Steak dinner

By avianacres3rjw |

Love this restaurant. The dinner entrees were a little late, but the food was excellent so quickly forgot the lateness. Dan, our server, was very good. Sommelier was a crank. He needed to take a nap and get a personality.

Don’t go

By Dcpanda |

Front desk personnel were unwelcoming and unhelpful. Servers were better. Food was okay, but we have been too much better steakhouses. The wine recommended by the sommelier was nothing special. Overall, disappointing. Would not go back or recommend.

Good food

By WJSQ8 |

We enjoyed our steaks very much, actually it’s one of the best stakes we ever tried! Very friendly staff, kids menu, comfortable seats. I loved that they put female napkins and tampons in their bathroom! So considerate of them.

Excellent Birthday Celebration

By YaYa4_VA |

This was a wonderful restaurant. It was recommended by people that LOVE steak. The steaks were perfect! My daughter and I split a bone-in fillet and the lobster mac and cheese (A brilliant move since we got to have both) My husband split the tomahawk steak with my daughter's boyfriend and they could not say enough good things about it. I was overwhelmed by the huge wine list but asked our server to recommend one. She asked a price point and found a delicious Italian red. Our server was awesome and made the night extra special. It was pricey but worth every penny!

Metropolitan Grill - What a Thrill

By 308brucew |

The Metropolitan Grill doesn't disappoint. Superb service, great dining atmosphere and the meals are simply great. Had a party of 13 and the service kept pace, the food was all served at the same time and piping hot. The salmon was on point and the crab cakes for an appetizer were among the best I've tasted.

AMAZING! WOW!

By christophercasey |

Took my wife to the Metropolitan Grill to celebrate her birthday and what a great choice it was! Everyone including the host/hostess, waiter (Michael), the gentleman who carved our steak table side, young man helping our waiter (newly hired), were off the charts FANTASTIC! We ordered the chateaubriand, so good and cooked perfectly..really didn’t need to chew. All other side dishes, appetizers, and dessert on point (had to take the many layered chocolate cake to go, so full). If we ever go back to Seattle, for sure a second visit!

Exceptional food and service

By RibbitRenton |

We have been dining at the Met since the mid-80's, and the quality of the food and service on this visit was as exceptional as ever. We had lunch in the bar and the menu provided a great variety of options. The NY Steak Sandwich was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the Prime Rib Dip was outstanding. What made the experience exceptional was the service. We were seated quickly at the bar and allowed to enjoy a glass of wine rather than being rushed to order. Richard was in charge of the bar, but he seemed to be our server for most of the time. His service was beyond exceptional. Richard was friendly, courteous, and took the time to chat with us when he had free time. The meal was great, but Richard made it memorable!

Old Style

By WestchesterP2 |

Decor is that of an old style steakhouse. Even though it's a steakhouse, I was tempted with a delivery of fresh sockeye salmon. Was not disappointed.

Decent, not a “must”

By Seth F |

We went in with very high expectations. We were told this was the best steakhouse in town. Great location and scene, however when you go to a steakhouse the best dishes should not be the sides or the desserts. Most of our parties’ steaks arrived either incorrectly or unevenly cooked. Additionally, pricing here is 1.25x of any comparable steakhouse in New York City. This restaurant is not a “must” but will provide a decent meal in a good atmosphere. Good selection of drinks and meats, but ultimately priced too high without justifying the cost with expert preparation. For example, Capital Grille, provides a similar experience with consistent quality at a much lower cost.

The Steakhouse in Seattle

By rehley |

Traditional steakhouse with Japanese steak options. Quite pricey, but very good, and they have the very best onion rings on the planet (and that comes from a certified onion ring connoisseur...ha)

Meeting High Expectations

By Beth Ann L |

This is a very clubby, steakhouse atmosphere where you receive excellent service from the waitstaff and the food is delicious. Why only four stars? Because we enjoy some culinary adventure when dining and my dinner companion was very disappointed with his steak. As for the atmosphere, one thing we loved is one feels in a bubble, not bothered by nearby tables and their guests. This was a meal with my dining companion and my aunts in town for a visit. I now live in Vancouver, but the Met used to be a favourite haunt after work. I knew this would be good and feel fancy. We started with cocktails, which was fun. We had the most delightful waitress, Dohui, who helped make the evening special. Despite the fact that copper river salmon had arrived the day before, it wasn’t a special (apparently “yet”). But ah well, we still had the myriad of steaks to choose from! My dining companion and I split a Caesar salad, excellent with white anchovies. There are so many choices for the steak that it can be overwhelming. But Dohui suggested the two-4 ounce steaks. One a Wagyu and one a Wagyu-Angus cross. It was a brilliant idea and my aunts and I had that. My dining companion was less pleased. He ordered a 8 oz tenderloin, but his tenderloin wasn’t centre cut and left something to be desired in shape and taste. We all had baked potatoes, topped with errything. The wine list is extensive, and the sommelier came by to help us narrow down to a favoured Pinot Noir. We were too stuffed for dessert but enjoyed tea, espresso and Bailey’s for the aunts. It was a great experience, as expected, and within expectations. Except for our waitress who added a lot to the experience.

Nice place

By Joseph nowlski |

This steakhouse isn’t the best but it’s good. The desert in here are really worth a trip to Seattle.

Best Place EVER!

New York, been there, ate there, have the T-S. You cannot get a fine dining experience better than the Met! Lobster bisque to die for!!!!

My Favorite Seattle Steakhouse

By John J |

One of my go to high end restaurants for both business and personal. The Met is a very traditional & classy steakhouse. The service is impeccable and professional...and the food is simply AMAZING. It’s not cheap, but you get what you pay for. We had a party of 8 for my son’s college graduation, and the evening could not have gone better. Thank you! We’ll be back.

Great Steaks

By bksld |

Outstanding service and a wonderful meal. Both myself and the other person in my party ordered the filet with sides. The meat was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The sides were also excellent.

Best Meal of My Life

By Djandyra |

Title says it all. The Snow Wagyu was so good, my wife is going back to being a vegetarian (not an exaggeration). I had the Wagyu tasting, which was a bucket list item for me that fully lived up to expectations. The service was exemplary, with the most knowledgeable staff I’ve encountered in year, with amazing recommendations and absolutely perfect timing.

Another great dinner.

By adalbert3 |

This visit was a family get-together for a special occasion--as always, the Metropolitan Grill did not disappoint. Our college kids loved the Thick Cut Onion Rings and the Calamari. However, as is often the case, steak was a favorite this night. Bacon Wrapped Tenderloin with Lobster Mac & Cheese, Bison Tenderloin, Combo Prime Filet and the SRF Skirt Steak were all winners. The Chocolate Lava Cake was great, but a trip to the Metropolitan Grill would not be right without the made at your table Bananas Foster. Our server was extremely professional and the sommelier was knowledgeable. This place always feels like a great steakhouse. Check out my photos for more details.

Best Restaurant in Seattle!!!

By LeonNoel7 |

Can’t believe it is not rated as the BEST!!! The atmosphere is classic and the food was outstanding! Each detail of our New Year’s Eve dinner was exceptional! We have not been here for years and was not sure if it would still be great, it was not, it was so much better!! It is expensive but well worth it. It was packed but the service was still very good and everyone was friendly and helpful. Loved every detail of our evening. Thanks!

A shell of what it once was...

By Zach F |

What happened to this place and why are all my favorite steakhouses in Seattle from 10 years ago becoming terrible? (I'm looking at you Schwartz Brothers). I should start by saying that the service was excellent and what you would expect from the Met historically, but everything else left a lot to be desired. First, many of the food items are no longer available (prime rib, meatballs, Brussels sprouts, mushrooms, etc.) and they claim it is because the items were causing longer ticket times, but it seemed more like a talk track from the staff, when in actuality it is because the corporation that bought The Met (E3) is is trying to figure out ways to cut costs. Second, the prices are ridiculous. I don't mind paying $80+ for a steak when I know it is going to be excellent, but my bone-in ribeye was the blandest steak I have had in a while and I had to request "finishing salt" (I was trying to be nice) to even eat it. Third, shame on E3 for tacking an extra 20% "service charge" on the bill of which NONE goes to the servers (see attached photo). Ridiculous! Apparently on a recent visit to the restaurant, one of my friends was asked by their server to "read the fine print" on the bill when they saw that they zeroed out the tip line due to the 20% surcharge. It's sad because this used to be one of my favorite steakhouses in Seattle and I will never return, especially when Jak's food is 10x better at about a third of the price. It is clear that the days of the impeccable experience provided by Consolidated that operated the Met for so many years is gone and I hope everyone on the Met staff goes and gets jobs somewhere where they are valued for their work instead of being treated as simply overhead.

40th anniversary

By Francisco C |

Excellent steakhouse, James our server was excellent, recommendations were clear and down to earth, long bone 40oz rib-eye was super, scallops were perfect, best onion soup ever, we challenge you! Eight layers chocolate cake with ice cream very good (enough for 3 persons) If you can pay for it you will have a great experience

Timeless

By The_Urban_Observer |

Classic steak house. Great bar scene. Love the ancient waiters in tuxedos. The Met is still my favourite steak house in the Pacific Northwest.

Phenomenal

By Mrs. Patti |

It is a tradition for our family to gather and go out to dinner on Christmas Eve. This year, we chose the Metropolitan Grill. We began in the bar with cocktails. Dinner was hosted in the Board Room where we enjoyed quiet semi-private dining decadent appetizers, dinner and desserts. From the moment we were greeted by the host staff, our coats checked, drinks served, meals prepared and delivered right down to sommelier opening the wines we opted to bring was outstanding. Every detail of the evening made for an exceptional experience for our family Many thanks to the entire staff at the Met!

Incredible dinner!

By Imthemom357 |

Loved every minute! Michael, our waiter and all the other staff who took such great care of us, the food was incredible, and I loved the atmosphere. Expect to pay top dollar for a wonderful dinner.

Amazing food and impeccable staff!

Amazing food! The staff especially the waiter could not have been better! The atmosphere was delightful. Best dinner I had in Seattle! Definitely recommend and will go back when back in Seattle.

Traditional Seattle steakhouse

By EnjoyLife |

It's been many years since we last ate at "The Met" for an anniversary. Not because they aren't good, they are! Seattle and this area has so many restaurants to try, sometimes it's difficult to repeat a visit. This time we went with friends. Food: 4.9 / 5.0 Apps: - Caesar salad with white anchovies - House green salad with candied walnuts, Anjou pears, Gorgonzola cheese, Dijon mustard vinaigrette - Wedge salad with Gala apples, grape tomatoes, toasted hazelnuts, Point Reyes blue cheese, honey cured slab bacon Entrees & sides: - 2 x "Dinner for Two" with the Chateaubriand option. Each set featured the following: -- A 24 oz. tender, juicy, center-cut, medium rare filet mignon "roast" carved tableside and served with "Cliff sauce" made from the extra "jus". -- Two whole tomatoes grilled and topped with melted Parmesan "crowns" -- Grilled mushroom caps -- Baked potatoes and asparagus all around - Side: Brussel sprouts roasted with bacon, topped with pickled red onions Desserts: - Chocolate lava cake - Cheesecake with a roasted hazelnut crust, honey brûlée, raspberry coulis, and Chantilly cream - Bananas Foster Overall, almost everything tasted great, meticulously prepared, and well-presented. The cheesecake was my only disappointment as the flavor tasted very lemony with a ricotta cheese-like texture. I wish I'd ordered the creme brûlée or white chocolate coconut cake instead. Service: 5/5 Everyone performed impeccably with friendly warmth, class, and welcoming graciousness. Ambiance: 5/5 This Seattle institution has the classic, traditional, wood and brass everywhere decor, but isn't formal or stuffy. Not many places like this are left in the city, so if you like steak, the Met is worth trying at least once or for a special event.

The Best item is not on the Menu

By The_Urban_Travelers |

I have wanted to visit this restaurant for a very long time, at least five years. It was definitely worth the wait. While traveling on business, I sat at the bar. I am glad I did, I found the bartenders personable, and true professionals. Rob Nokes was my bartender/server, and he is the best. While ordering food, I wanted the bone in ribeye steak, but the item on the menu was simply too much for me to eat. Noticing my dilemma, I received the recommendation to try an item not located on the menu, the 16 oz bone-in ribeye steak. This steak is $10 more than the boneless option. I found my steak wonderfully prepared with excellent marbling. When the food arrived, the presentation was perfect. Rob even offered to fluff my potato to ensure, butter distribution throughout my baked potato. Along with steak au jos was provided that perfectly complimented my cut of meat. I enjoyed my visit to the Metropolitan Grill in Seattle. The service, personality of the bartenders, and the food made this a great visit. I got the feeling that this is the type of establishment where the servers and management learn their customers' names and food preferences to anticipate any needs their guests may have. The service provided by the Metropolitan is becoming rare, and this is why I would have to rank them as one of the best steakhouses this Connoisseur has ever visited. I highly recommend and look forward to future visits.

A disappointing experience…

Have been here several times and was quite surprised at the way error in our food preparation was handled. My meal was served with an issue, and it took nearly 20 minutes for it to be brought back out corrected. Instead of correctly re-plating my husbands (or offering to have his kept warm while mine was being re-made) we basically ate at separate times and it was not an enjoyable dining experience that you’d expect, especially at the Met. Mistakes happen, it’s how they’re handled. When being presented with the bill, the “27 year server” also informed us he only received half of the automatic 20% gratuity that was placed on the bill and encouraged us to leave more. It was just overall very poor experience from a place we had tried to visit every time we were in Seattle. From the many vacant tables after a Seahawks game (it’s usually packed) it seems evident that their service / standards seem to be slipping.

Great Place

By Kahumpton |

After being ignored at Cutters CrabHouse we decided to go where we have always felt welcomed. And once again food was amazing. Great atmosphere and better steaks. One day I hope to leave room for the famous bananas foster but the steaks are what I’m there for. Every time we visit Seattle this place is a must. We will definitely be back.

Unlike many Stalwarts, The MG has kept its swagger - and excellence

By Bob S |

It had been years since I've been back to this "power spot" on the edge of the financial district in Seattle. We chose this as a place to re-acquaint with some old friends in town for the holidays. It was an excellent choice. We arrived early, but they immediately sat us at the table to wait. A wonderful table. Secluded. Intimate. After asking if we wanted something to drink, our waiter said "are you hungry?" - I'll bring some bread. Attention to detail. excellent food. Service like you don't find much anymore.

excellent restaurant

Steak is amazing, salmon grill so good, worth the price. We finish all our food excellent service. When we come back try to eat again here.

Classic steakhouse with a-m-a-z-i-n-g wine list

By TreyJacobson |

My wife, adult daughter and I ate here for dinner during a recent weekend trip to Seattle. Food is very good, and service was excellent. The steakhouse is located in a historic bank building, and has all the details: white table clothes, wait staff in white coats, a small army of support staff that seem to materialize out of thin air, early sixties music overhead (featuring Sinatra, E. Fitzgerald, etc.) The prices look high compared to some restaurants, but be aware that steaks come with a side dish (which saves some spending on side dishes). The regular daily wine list had some great offerings, but the wine list has over 3,000 options. As a wine snob, it was fun just looking at the famous wine vintages that I couldn't afford. Recommended!

Appalling

By Gabe L |

While in Seattle for a football game, we went to Metropolitan Steakhouse, a supposed Seattle institution. I live in LA and lived in NYC for 25 years, having eaten at some of the best and priciest steakhouses in the country. This place was offensively expensive, the steak quality was poor, and the service was awful. My $89 filet, which they unapologetically refused to serve how I like it (raw), was terrible. My father had a ribeye, also priced at $90, that was thin, grizzled, and flavorless. Even the spinach salad was bad, drowned in dressing. The 20% service charge (which all Seattle restaurants apply) seemed to demotivate everyone there from actually providing good service. What a frustrating experience.

Meh

By Raymond R |

Honestly the food was just ok. Had steak and even some chicken. Neither had that much flavour and neither were even close to the best steak I’ve ever had. Very disappointed as was expecting more for the price. Save your cash and go elsewhere for your steak.

If you want Bourbon and steak go here

By Dave S |

Well I walked by this place a few times until I asked at the hotel for a nice place to eat. They said eat here. I sat at the bar because I was solo. First I looked the the drink list. I have never seen a bourbon list this big anywhere. It was like 4 pages. I tried 2 different ones. Dinner menu was good with lots of choices. Service was great and the staff was friendly. I got the Filet steak and it was outstanding. This is not a cheap place to eat but everything was first class. Make sure that you call ahead for reservations.

Still The Best Steakhouse In Seattle (and it is not a close call)

By Imants |

This remains the premier steakhouse in Seattle, and it's not really a competition. The service is unparalleled and if you have an experience that is negative, it will be your own doing. I have been going to the Met regularly for 20 years, and I have never had a disappointing experience. Anyone who says their steak wasn't cooked to their liking, doesn't know how to communicate. Anytime I have ever had an issue, the food was immediately replaced or fixed, or comped. That's why I can say this is THE steakhouse in Seattle. If you are in Chicago, you go to Gibson's. In Seattle, you go to the Met. On top of the excellent steaks, the Caesar salad is the best in town. Real anchovies, and if you ask for extra, they are going to give you an extra plate of fresh anchovies. Again, this is the real deal. All of their sides are unbelievably tasty and prepared to the highest standard (even the spinach is off the charts). Another often over looked component of a dinner out is the level of attention and detail paid to cocktails and spirits. The Met bar staff are the finest Seattle has to offer. Rob Nokes and his crew make the best old fashioneds and manhattans and here too, there is no real competition. If you are looking for flowery smoky weird stuff in your drinks, this is not the place for you. If you want rock solid cocktails and martini's, you are going to be right at home here, and you will be back. This kind of quality and service is a get what you pay for situation. If you are looking for a cheap meal out or a bargain, the Met is not for you. If you are looking for the best, and you can afford it, as fellow Seattle mainstay Filson has stated for years: "Might as well have the best."

Fabulous Lunch!

By _go9ersdh |

This restaurant is noted for their quality meats. I enjoyed the lunch special of half sandwich (roast beef au jus) and an organic baby spinach salad (toasted almonds, bacon, jack cheese). The half sandwich was huge and so delicious. Salad was great too. Received friendly, outstanding attentive service from Victor. Will return to try their popular lunch pork chop or salmon entrees as suggested by the server.

Best Porterhouse in town. I come here every month and the food is always amazing. Great service as well.

Fabulous!

By Pamela H |

Fabulous food and experience! The steaks were the best I've eaten, the wedge salad delicious, the desserts fabulous. We went there for my sister-in-law's birthday, she loved it! Our waiter was great. Expensive for sure, but worth it!

Just so-so

By LAURA C |

We went to the Metropolitan last Friday with a last minute reservation at 7:30 pm. It was a bit surprising to see many empty tables. Once seated we placed our order and it was 30 minutes for our appetizer. Although delicious...it was a long wait. But even worse it was another 45 minutes for our entrees! There were only 2 of us, not a big party. The big surprise was the bill and the automatic 20% surcharge. It was explained that it goes to the house to pay wages and benefits and does not go to our waiter! None of this was explained prior to ordering and a pricey meal with wine suddenly got 20% more expensive! Will not be returning.

Good, But Not As Good As It Use To Be

By Dealmaker |

The Metropolitan Grill has always been a favorite restaurant when visiting the Seattle area,It has been about 7 years since my last visit and I found the service still to be excellent, but the steaks not as flavorful as they sue to be, We each and strip steak a nd they we good, but not great. The potato cakes are like hash browns and they are great,

Nice evening

By Judith484 |

Dinner was great. Our server was Bruno and he is excellent. This place is a steak hour and has been around for a long time. Excellent food, service and a nice ambiance. Valet parking, make reservations and enjoy.

Miserable Experience

By LAJ |

I never thought I would say this about the Metropolitan Grill, but not only was our visit made miserable by a waiter who obviously hated his job but my food was barely edible. This was not our first time here and because our previous experiences were great, we decided to have a special lunch for our son and his new fiancee on Christmas Eve. On our reservation we were asked if there was a special event. We said yes-engagement. Then we were asked if there were any dietary issues and we said yes-gluten issues. Not only was the engagement not acknowledged, when I asked our waiter about gluten free options I was told they could make lettuce wraps or I could have a salad. That was it!! I asked what about the steaks and he said he didn't know. What!! Every other time I had been here the waiter helped me go through the menu to determine what I had a taste for and what I could eat. So I ordered the filet and a baked potato because I knew that should be safe. I guess to punish me for asking him questions, he brought my food to me ice cold with a piece of meat so filled with gristle I maybe got 3 decent bites. I did not want to upset the other guests so never said a word. But the more I think about having had to pay a 20% service charge for what should have been a zero tip event, it just makes me angry. It's unfortunate. We won't be back.

A History of Being Great - now Bait and Switch

By al stewart |

My wife and I went to the Metropolitan Grill before our evening at our favorite theater downtown. We had a delightful time at the bar with some spectacular h'ordeuvres and excellent service. However, a change in policy became apparent when our bill appeared. There was a 20% service charge added for our party of 2. Which for a larger party, might have been normal for everyone. However, in this case, the situation was different. We asked our server about the 20% and then were told about the new policy. Specifically, this policy is new and is credited entirely to "the house". It does not go to the server, it goes to "the house". So, if we wished to reward the server for her excellent service, we needed to add more to the tab. Our response was to do exactly that. However, we viewed this as a "bait and switch" issue. The menu provided prices and we ordered according to our favorites. The menu gave us prices which we accepted. However, we felt that the 20% charge "for the house" should have been reflected in the price shown on the menu. We will not be returning to the Metropolitan Grill until this is changed. As a footnote: the owners of the Metropolitan Grill own many other establishments in the Seattle area. We do not know all of them, just beware of this new "policy" wherever you go for dinner.

Very Good Steak and Superb Service at this Old School SEA Eatery

By SeminarTrekker |

Very good steak and superb at this old school eating establishment Rib eye was very good. Chocolate cake was very good too.

Simply Outstanding!

By Johnnybazooka |

5 of went for lunch. Very busy, but within 5 minutes we were seated. The service was second to none. Our waiter was on top of everything. The food was to perfection. This place is #1 in my book. All 5 of us agreed!! You will not be disappointed!!

Magnificent Metropolitan Grill

By Dean F |

Festive atmosphere, attentive wait staff, and scrumptious menu! The restaurant was festively adorned for the holidays! The wait staff was fun, helpful, attentive and delightful! Our filet and prime rib was exceptional! The pear, walnut and blue cheese salad was extraordinary! The pear bread pudding was absolutely delicious! A memorable experience in all aspects!

Ahhhhmazing!!

By sassy426 |

Ahhhhmazing!! We opted for a nice, dress up dinner out while we were in the city and chose the Metropolitan Grill. It did not disappoint. I see a few people commenting about the 20% service fee...but this is not the only restaurant that does that. We found the same thing at nearly every restaurant we ate in all week, so don’t let that deter you. We had a shrimp martini appetizer - the shrimp were huge and very tasty. The steaks were perfectly cooked for dinner, along with the lobster tail. If you’re a creamed spinach lover, I would recommend theirs - so yummy!! We finished dinner off with bananas foster cooked table side! So fun - and a delicious end to the meal!!

Will never eat here again

By ghogan2018 |

The service was agonizingly slow. Our server rarely visited our table. The crabcakes were terrible, even by West Coast standards. They add a 20% "service charge" to already high prices which is not passed on to the servers. We felt that if you weren't ordering one of their $195 steaks, you would be ignored by the servers. Worst restaurant experience I have ever had.

The BEST Prime Rib!!

By vickiyvb |

Their prime rib was extraordinary and melted in my mouth! Exceptional staff from the valet, hostess, drink waiter, server, to the maitre d' who checked in with us. Outstanding attention to all details regarding gluten, soy, dairy, and egg allergies. They led with such a positive "can do" attitude regarding allergies . . .tell them what you want and they will accommodate with lots of taste!!! Excellent wine selections too. Loved their Washington winery choices. Their service and food are consistently superb. Fun Happy Hour too.

Great Food, Less Than Mediocre Service

By World Traveler |

Fantastic food, the Long Bone Ribeye was excellent as was the Cesar Salad. Service, POOR. Except for Kevin, the guy who brought us our waters and socialized with us, he was great. Our server, he was lazy and slow, zero personality, Don’t even recall his name.

By Traveler211907 |

We had a fabulous private dining experience for 15 people at the Metropolitan Grill in Seattle on July 19. Since most of us were traveling from Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio, our arrangements were made via email with their special event coordinator, Lindsay, who was prompt, efficient, informative, and helpful. Every single detail that we requested for the Vintage Room was honored including name cards for several guests whose names were printed in their native Korean language, to a perfect and simply spectacular floral arrangement. Throughout the process, Lindsay was patient, courteous, and understanding as we exchanged probably a dozen emails. Our server, Kaira, was simply wonderful! She was professional, friendly, timely, and attentive! The food was as excellent as advertised and was perfectly prepared. I cannot recommend private dining at the Metropolitan Grill in Seattle more highly! Although we utilized a fixed price menu with fewer choices than the incredible main menu, Lindsay was kind enough to arrange for Bananas Foster to be prepared in the room with its attendant pyrotechnics which was an exceptional ending to a wonderful evening none of us will ever forget!

Spectacular Service, Makers Mark Ice Cream!

By NEBusinessTraveler |

Second time we’ve eaten here while visiting Seattle. Great atmosphere and service, very good food both times. Tonight our waiter was Lathrop, and he was outstanding. Attentive, good humor, knew the menu well. My wife had the halibut special, which was cooked perfectly, I had the bone-in ribeye, amazing flavor. Drinks were out quickly and generously poured. The most amazing part of this meal was the Makers Mark infused vanilla ice cream fir dessert. Thought it might be too bourbon-forward, but it actually had traces of spice, like nutmeg, almost an eggnog finish. Just a great experience and wonderful night out, thanks to the hard working staff, chefs, and most of all, our waiter Lathrop!

Food Really a Disappointment

By AreWeHavingFunYet |

This was our first (and our last) visit to the Metropolitan Grill. We were looking forward to an outstanding dinner based on its ranking and the reviews. Atmosphere and service were great, however, every single dish was a huge disappointment: Bread - not fresh, not warm, no balsamic vinegar or olive oil. Lobster bisque - lukewarm and I've had much better. Almond scallops - scalloped apparently sliced thinly in half and tasted dry and mostly of parmesan cheese. Crab and prawn fettuccine - sauce too thin and watery, prawns not cooked through (disgusting!) We've had way better! Iceberg wedge - too much dressing - soaking in it. Charred cauliflower - unimpressive and dry. And our final attemp - Chocolate Lava - hard and dry on the outside and over cooked, and it would have been much better with vanilla ice cream. We shared it and couldn't even finish it because it was so hard. Total $150+ for a very, very disappointing meal!

Always visit when in Seattle.

By Kimberlea A |

This is my 3rd visit to the Metropolitan Grill. It never disappoints. I had Kobe Wagyu. Delicious. It came with some type of carrots, They wer so good. The asparagus was lackluster. My friend had a lobster tail. It was good also.

A Seattle institution

By Steven T |

Classic steakhouse in downtown Seattle. The Met is arguably the best steak in town. It is a Seattle institution. They offer the finest in prime beef and even offer a wide selection of rare Japanese beef. Service is elite. Please note they add an automatic service fee (tip) to your bill so there is no need to tip in addition to that unless you feel it necessary. The Met is also a great option for lunch. They offer many great menu items for under $20. I had their roast beef au jus (French Dip) with crisp fries. The beef was roasted to perfection medium rare and was a substantial portion. The fries were shoestring style flash fried and crisp. The Met is always a safe selection when looking for a special meal in downtown Seattle.

Good Food

By derrickwg36 |

I ate the Metropolitan Grill location in the Climate Pledge Arena. I ordered a hotdog with grilled onions and peppers, and a Truly hard seltzer. The meal was very good and the portion was large. The prices weren’t bad, considering the normal arena prices. I enjoyed this dinning experience.

Excellent choice

By Erabell |

Cozy and elegant atmosphere. Excellent food, delicious macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes. Fresh and tender meat. Very good service.

Good but not as good as I was expecting!

By Richard Watkins |

I visited for a work trip on my own and wasn’t dressed for the main restaurant but sat at the bar. Great service from the bartender and atmosphere. However, I had the new strip and it was good and cooked perfectly by the chef but it wasn’t the best I’ve ever had.

Best steak in Seattle

By Rhea K |

We traveled to Seattle specifically to have dinner at the Met for my husband's birthday. It had been several years since we last ate here so we were pretty excited about it. As expected, the restaurant did not disappoint. Our server was attentive and very friendly. The king crab is my go to order and when it came, it looked and tasted amazing. This place is special to us because it's where we had our first date. Consistently the best service and food. Steak was cooked perfectly and the sides were on par for quality. Looking forward to the next time we come back. Only downside is that don't serve molasses bread anymore. It was our favorite!

Great steak

By rpo |

The quality of the big bone steak was amazing, cooked to perfection. The scallops appetizer were below par. The chairs need refurbishing not very cushy. The $16 valet parking charge was an overkill and should be included on a restaurant of this level. Great wine list with reasonable prices and amazing choices.

Anything but special!

By LeonNoel7 |

Our prior two visits this year were perfect in all respects and got 5 stars! So we decided to take our daughter and friend for a very special 44th birthday celebration. To our disappointment it was anything but special. Without getting into the details of the endless errors, the Met Grill went from our favorite restaurant to one we will never visit again. One example was that my wife was not able to eat one bite of her dinner, a $60 steak. I have never written a negative review this bad but it has taken a month to get past my anger and write this review. And yes I did notify the restaurant and they acknowledged our concerns but then did not follow up for details. Our Special evening was anything but special.

A delicious splurge

By Mark C |

We were in Seattle for a birthday, so we decided to splurge for a quality steak dinner. We were not disappointed. The steaks were terrific. And the old-school baked potato was absolutely a winner. It's expensive, but you love the food and enjoy the old-timey steakhouse feel to the decor and service.

Good but not great

By Holly M |

Seated within 10 minutes of reservations, nice quiet comfortable booth. Classic old world steakhouse- velvet booths. Service very good. Food good, but I have had better steaks- Keen’s in NYC and Gibson’s in Chicago are way better. Scallop appetizer was excellent. We split a NY strip, asparagus, roasted mushrooms, all good but luke warm temperature- would have been so much better if food was hot. We didn’t want to send back and wait. Food good- but I would recommend asking for food piping hot. Service was excellent.

Great Steak

By Wilson L |

Had a great steakhouse experience here at the Metropolitan Grill. We love trying out new steakhouses all the time, so this time we gave this place a try! And we were not disappointed. The food was exceptional, the wine list extensive. The sides and steak were amazing. Our waitress, (I want to say her name was Dee Hee? The funny asian lady.) was amazing. She was very helpful and made sure we were taken care of. I definitely recommend this steakhouse to anyone and we can't wait to return again next time we're in Seattle.

Great dining experience

By BrianMaryAdventures |

Your gonna spend some big bucks in this place, but the food and experience is worth it. Start out with the excellent crab cakes. We got the boneless ribeye, the mashed potatoes were amazing and Mary’s baked potato was the best she ever had. We threw in a side of asparagus with bernaise sauce to boot and finished it all off with crème brûlée.

Olive steak

By For the Lust of Food |

I am always up for a new adventure in food and when I saw that they had beef that was fed olives, I found that very interesting. When the steak arrived it looked like a round disc with no marbling and I can only describe it as a cross between a filet mignon and fois gras. It was interesting but at that hefty price, I would’ve been better off just ordering a ribeye. I would not order it again.

Watch out for COMPANY included Service Charge...

By RCE121 |

Had dinner for 2 last night at this downtown Seattle establishment. The ambiance was very nice, food was great and the service was excellent. Didn't give it a 5-star due to the following. I was presented the check which included a 20% service charge. Thought this was unusual as most restaurants charge for groups of 6 or more. The check including this service charge was $429.00 for 2. And, yes we splurged a little but well worth it. Anyway got home and looked at the check and read the bottom. This 20% service charge was for the company only. Service staff got NOTHING!!! What a crock!!! With the dimly lit ambiance didn't read the whole thing. And, they charge tax on top of that. Lesson learned. Are fine dining restaurants charging a service fee now? Patrons beware! Have to go back downtown which is about an hour from the house when our server Juergen is working so I can give him a prop gratuity.

Delicious!!!

By sgoldsby856 |

This is hands down the BEST place in Seattle to get a steak! The food was perfect and the servers are extremely knowledgeable of their menu. The food and service is definitely worth the price

Amazing Steakhouse! One of the Top in the Country!

By Bryan W |

I just don't get it. I honestly don't get it. Metropolitan Grill is always the top steakhouse in Seattle, but why not amongst the top in the country? I have been to every Top 10 steakhouse (many, multiple times) and MG is right there with them, no problem. This is a delayed review, as I have not been recently (I live in CA) due to COVID, but holy cow, this place is amazing! From the valet out front, to the coat check, to the waiters, the staff is perfect. They are extremely attentive, knowledgeable, and service is 100% every single visit. Oh, and they're super friendly too! Ever been to some top steak house and get some stuffy, stiff upper-lipped waiter with no personality? Yeah...me too. Not at Metropolitan Grill! They are very personable and enjoyable to be around. Never had a bad one yet, and I have been here probably a dozen times. The food is amazing! I always get the same thing every visit, because well...why mess with perfection? The Prime Teriyaki Tenderloin Bites (appetizer) are amazing, and quite filling. The Clam Chowder (appetizer) is extremely good. The Four Cheese Mac and Cheese is very creamy and cheesy, as it should be. For the main course, the Prime Filet, American Wagyu Filet & Ohmi Filet combo is insane. You get 4 ounces of each, and it just melts in your mouth. Absolutely cooked to perfection, and truly amazing. Sure, it's $135. But you get 12 ounces of actual meat (no bone weighed here!), and it's just darn good. Easily amongst the best steaks I have ever eaten. Like I said, I honestly just don't get it. Metropolitan Grill is quite frankly #1 or #2 in the country, as far as I'm concerned.

Bang Average…

By Warren H |

The room is old school steakhouse and lacks soul and ambience. The hostess upon arrival wasn’t particularly interested in me. The service was good but the steak was very average. The restaurant makes big claims to be the best in Seattle but clearly doesn’t have much competition. Seriously, visiting this restaurant makes me want to open a rival restaurant in the area. The Metropolitan Grill feels like a restaurant that made a name for itself twenty years ago and is still doing the same thing. Times have moved on and honestly I can buy a superior steak in my local butcher and cook it better at home. I feel very underwhelmed and it’s too expensive to be as average as it is. Disappointed.

Old School Steakhouse

By TPuyleart |

We had a large group and were booked in the Boardroom. Great room as we were able to mingle before dinner. Service was excellent and well timed. No one had to wait for their food and it was well prepared. Steaks were excellent!

Wonderful experience

By Steven T |

This was our first time at this restaurant and the service was wonderful. We had beef slider spicy shrimp and oysters on the half’s which was delicious and excellent. Our friends had chateaubriand for two of 24 oz cut tenderloin. The side dishes consists of carrots with harissa pistachios was luxurious and delicious as well as the large asparagus with bernaice sauce the baked russet potatoes with cheddar cheese sour cream and chives was out of this world. The creamy spinach was fabulous with hints of cloves. My petite fillet was huge with marbles melting in your mouth. The ribeyes was mouth watering luscious and delicious. The chateaubriand was out of this world melts in your mouth serve with au jus peel whole tomatoes and large buttery button mushrooms. We’re not happy with our ending: Message to general manager of Metropolitan Grill - Enjoy ++++++++++++++++= Thank you for hosting us. The meal was wonderful.  However; we were very much confused and conflicted with Jade at the conclusion of our dinner.  Jade made the statement upon presenting the check that he did “not receive a tip out of the 20% service charge added to our bill”.   I was previously fully prepared and understood that the 20% service charge was shared amongst the staff as a mechanism to pay Seattle’s minimum wage by not increasing prices, but adding fees to the dinner. We are totally fine and accept this. Before the check came; we planned on adding additional tip money and understanding it would go to Jade. When Jade presented the check to us; he stated that he gets no tip from the 20% service charge and that we were under no obligation to give a tip. He just wanted us to make sure that we knew that the extra 20% was not a tip. I then asked Jade directly how much of the 20% he received knowing that some went to the staff; he was evasive and responded that it is not a tip. I further became agitated because he was using double speak by saying - “the tip is not included in the 20%, but you do not have to leave me a tip”.  Beyond this statement being passive aggressive; I asked directly again “are you saying you get nothing from the 20%?” He then replied “I get a sales commission”.  That was the last straw. The ending of the meal became an uncomfortable experience because now we felt were being cheated or lied to somehow for more expense and tip. Regardless of a detailed website that markets the 20% fee and how it keeps the staff with livable wages (which we 100% support); the passive aggressive push for a higher tip added made us unhappy and caused us to leave unhappy.  We planned to leave a tip, just wanted to make sure we knew what the “sales commission” was to leave an appropriate top off to that expense. We ended up adding $0 tip on since we never received any info on what the “sales commission” was so we could add an additional tip. So; we wanted you to know this is how visitors from Hawaii felt after our meal. However, please know that we will definitely come back on our next visit to Seattle.  If you could confirm the sales commission amount for Jade, which he would not tell us that he gets from the 20%; we would be more than happy to send over a tip for Jade via any payment app.  Thank you for reaching out and listening. Aloha

Not what it used to be…

By KWowza |

My husband and I have frequently dined here over the years for special occasions and were excited to have dinner here recently. Their steaks have always been unbeatable and the service is top notch (still is!). Recently we were there for our anniversary and ordered two fillet mignons. Mine was incredible - like butter. But my husband’s was unseasoned and burnt. I encouraged him to say something about his $85 steak, but he didn’t want to make a fuss. There was also a lipstick stain on my cocktail glass and a broken side on my whiskey glass. That was disappointing for the amount of money we paid to have a nice dinner. With that being said, our service has always been and was incredible. The staff here is unlike any other and is what keeps us coming back time and time again. The restaurant just needs to keep an eye on those little things that can make or break your evening.

LOVE

By Melane T |

Love the food, the service and let me just spend some time in the carrot cake. Friends... it’s so far beyond delicious. And HUGE. We just came for a drink and dessert this time. We gorged on the cake and still had enough for breakfast the next morning. Bon Appetit!

The service and quality food you expect from an institution like this.

By tougo |

We came for an early midweek dinner, and it was very quiet. Our server was awesome and let us move from an uncomfortable booth to a table close by. We had French onion soup that was delicious, and the wagyu filet was melt in your mouth good. Nice cocktails and wine too. We were surprised by the service charge, especially being taxed on it.

Not so great this time.

By Rob H |

We were seated quickly, a good table. Out server was there quickly. We ordered salads, and steaks. Salads were perfect and tasty. A short time later our entrees arrived along with our sides. All arrived cold, not even warm....All sent back and returned like warm. That was that, no visit from a manager, no apologies, no offer to comp a dessert. Very weak attention to our issues. Dont think we will be returning anytime soon. A disappointing experience.

Top quality and value and service in Seattle: EAT HERE

By kookoo48 |

The valet was friendly and helped with our pet in the car, the door greeters attended personally to our two young grand daughters in their finest. The receptionist was friendly and sincere in helping us. The coat check person was really fun to chat with and animated. The escort to our table inquired sincerely about our two grandkids and the table water server, bread server and finally our waiter and then the wine steward were all 5 star top shelf well disciplined and professionally trained in the fine art of five star elite dining. The food was even better: Bonein Rib Eye, New York, fish and chips off the kids menu were best we have had for meat cuts from Paris to New York. This is the top place for ‘fine dining’ in Seattle with prices comparable to the phenomenal food and even better service with an authentic ‘old school’ smile and casualness that invites pleasant dining in warmth of down town Seattle at night. GO EAT HERE

There is no doubt that this is the best steakhouse in Seattle. But understand you're not going to come out without spending at least $100 per person. I had a appetizer a rib eye steak and an ice tea and with tip I spent $120. Great food though, a nice atmosphere and excellent service

Great steak and atmosphere

Been here before and enjoyed great cocktails, great steaks, and wonderful service. We enjoy this place and look forward to seeing very visit. Something for everyone, classic old school steak house with dark woods and charm

20% "service charge" added to our bill - goes to management, not servers

By Jonvilliers |

We had a very nice dinner here last night that was completely spoiled when the bill arrived. First of all, the bill added a 20% "service charge" that was NOT noted on the menu at all (the menu mentioned a 3% service charge) and it had the additional notation that this service charge would go to management, not to the wait staff. Apparently this is in response to the City of Seattle increasing the minimum wage to $15/hr. and requiring restaurants of a certain size (presumably Metropolitan Grill) to pay benefits. But rather than raise menu prices, it was a hidden add on surprise when the bill came. This made us feel very uncomfortable as patrons. Metropolitan Grill prices are already some of the highest in Seattle. To then tack on another 20% (actually more like another 22%, since the service charge is also taxed at 10%+) without making it known in advance to patrons is simply wrong. Apparently they just started doing this 20% service fee in the past week. We would rather patronize restaurants that do not do this very unethical practice.

SEATTLE

The last time I was at this restaurant was back in 1995.So this time we went back to celebrate my wife's birthday and what a disappointment. The place is extremely over priced, in particular the wine list, the food was not that great, cold steak and baked potato, fortunately after we complained, they took the main course off the bill

TERRIBLE

1 star dog food go to outback before this rip off the staff was rude everything was cold this place use to be good it has went way down hill

First time ever that the steak temp was slightly off and without hesitation, the Maitre'D made it right! Wonderful meal and a great buzz.

Best Happy Hour in town

By HolgerG909 |

If you’re not into fine dining, but want to experience one of the best steak houses in town, then maybe MG Happy Hour is the perfect spot. Happy Hour starts at 3:30pm on weekdays. Great selection of beers, wines and cocktails. The happy hour food menu has delicious bites like the tenderloin bites and the spicy fried shrimp. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.

*Love*Love*Love*

By GinaS |

There isn’t a thing that I didn’t love about our evening. Friendly and fabulous service all around. I love a steakhouse with some history and tableside service. Our drinks were great, appreciate their large beverage menu. We had calamari, artichoke hearts and onion rings to start and they were all good. I like the sauce served on the side with a spoon. We loved the tableside carving of the long bone ribeye. It was cooked as requested and was absolutely wonderful. I always enjoy creamed spinach and was thrilled to find that available and tasty. Also enjoyed the roasted root veggies. Again because I think tableside service is a lost art, had to have the bananas foster made at our table. So fun and yummy! Thank you for a beautiful evening.

Not up to par.

By Frisbetariat |

Used to be stellar, now just meh. Steak was way undercooked and lots of fat (not trimmed well) , rare instead of medium well. Seemed like they had different ideas......... and it was just poor after being re-grilled. Completely missed the oysters (my wife was looking forward all week), never got them, only a oops sorry. The lobster was great! Potato was meh, service was meh, and the presentation was no better. I am used to the prices, but this was a C- in every regard.

Very good steak with well informed wait staff

By orrs1999 |

Our waiter, Kyle, was very knowledgeable. I tried the Wagyu beef which was melt in your mouth steak. It was a very pricey meal ($150 for 2 with no drinks on that bill) but was definitely good food.

Birthday celebration dinner

By Amers M |

We enjoyed our dinners, our waiter was pleasant. Food was delicious. It's a nice resturant in Seattle, we took the water taxi from Alki and walked up to blocks from the dock in Seattle right to the resturant. We wore slacks and nice shirts, but people wore anything from shorts to jeans to dressed like us. Food was really good. Cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the 35 Day Aged Cap Top Steak, 18 oz.* and I had the Dungeness Crab and Prawn Fettuccine. Then we split with each other. Both dished were really good. My son had the Filet Mignon, 10 oz.*, I tried it also, it melted in my mouth. Everyones food was delicious. Our waiter was nice and pleasant, made sure we had anything we needed. It was a great experience.

Best rib-eye i’ve ever had - period

By Michael G |

We wanted to treat ourselves after a busy week. I opted for a medium rare rib-eye with asparagus and french fries. The steak was perfect and well accompanied by the side orders. The waiters were unobtrusive and there when needed. A great night out!

MG has always maintained high standards. Came in for an early dinner. Sat at the bar and shared starters along with drinks. The staff is courteous, attentive and knowledgeable.

40 oz Long Bone Ribeye Meal

By Jet79577 |

A beautiful restaurant with great food. The staff was wonderful. We were there for an anniversary dinner. We dress up for our anniversary dinners and go to high end restaurants. Needless to say with a football game the next day we were out of place as large groups of diners had jerseys on. some with sweat pants, others with tee shirts. So it appears there is no minimum dress code. But we still enjoyed our meal. I wish I could remember our waitress's name. She was so helpful and made our time there a good experience. We had their dinner for 2, a 40 oz long bone ribeye along with a couple sides. It was cooked to perfection and was delicious. The sides were tasty. I had the A5 Old Fashioned as a drink, Wagyu Fat–Washed MG Eagle Rare, E3 Seasoning, Maple, Smoked Cinnamon Bitters. I highly recommend it. Overall our experience was very good and we enjoyed the food and the service. We were in no rush and wanted to enjoy our time out. This was the right place. The 40 oz ribeye takes a while to cook. We knew the meal was going to be expensive, but the total was higher than we had thought. There is a 20% service fee added to your meal (this is not a tip for the wait staff). But we still feel it was worth it.

Old school five star steak joint

By Fairport Travelers |

Very classy, old school joint. Everything about this place is first class from the hostess, bartenders, servers, waiters, the Bananas Foster guy, you name it. Prices are reasonable for what you get. The American Wagyu filet was incredible, our waitress Diane was great and let my cousin sample a couple of Sauv Blancs to help her make up her mind. Would definitely go back. The only down side is that they add an automatic 20% service charge, which they're open about, and I don't think the waiters like that.

Nice dinner

By lucycan |

Went here based upon recommendation from a local friend. The place is old school. Started in the bar where the staff were attentive and the drinks were strong! Moving to a (small) booth for two the service was attentive. The clam chowder was perhaps the best I've had. The bread was OK. Lots of meat options including Kobe and Wagyu options. My steak was good and the baked potato was good. Everything was great, but not amazing. I honestly was expecting more. Nothing wrong, just not quite the level of amazing I was expecting for a top 50 restaurant in the city.

Old school steakhouse delivers...for a price.

By ClaretBadger |

Old fashioned steakhouse that seems to have been there a while judging by the decor and all the photos on the walls of famous guests. Cosy old school formal vibe but with very 21st century prices so be warned! But if you are after high quality steak with a smart traditional American vibe, this place is it.

Place changed hands and gone downhill since than

By Bill P |

9-1-19 Place changed hands and gone downhill since than When there for Breakfast after Church which we have done for the past couple of years. The service was excellent and the servers were top notch before the change of hands. They left one by one until none of the original servers were there. They are in the process of making changes and construction began but not on this Sunday. The location and views are always great. We arrived at 1130, the sign said to check in well we waited a couple of min before being seated. The Server said we are a little backed up but there were only maybe a dozen families there. After seated it took 12 min before being served with coffee or water. We ordered right away when the drinks were being served. We had to ask for the table to be cleaned and for silverware, there was none on any tables. After being served, a reasonable amount of time, the server Never came back so see how were are doing on to refill our drinks. Several customers had to track down the server to ask for more drinks and check. The food was good, but the service was deplorable. They need training and more servers. We will give them a couple of weeks and try again. If nothing changes then they lost what was a good customer.

Wonderful dining experience

Outstanding beef, with an impressive breadth of choices. Accompanying food is wonderful too, though. Well worth a visit.

Steak sanctuary

By mauro t |

Without going to the hyperhype Japanese meats (which I did not try) and sound definitely delicious, the Met offers top league dry aged beef steaks. They are simply wonderful. I have been told that also seafood (mainly crab) is good here but I could not resist to the steak. Service is very good and our waiter took a lot of his time to explain the differences between cuts and aging. Very informative and pleasant. I went for a Delmonico bone in 20oz steak, rare. To die for, as simple as that. The dècor is what you expect for a classic US high range steakhouse. Dining in a booth is always pleasant. Forged steak knives are making their job. Starters and soups were very good, I had an onion soup with gruyere which was delicious. Wine selection is quite vast and prices are not unbelievable. One of the guys having dinner with me asked for Met special fettuccini with crab. I have tasted them. I have to say, as Italian, I normally avoid to eat pasta out of national boundaries: the fettuccini at the Met were very well done, deliciously "al dente", even on Italian standard: BRAVO! Not the cheapest restaurant in town but, considering the quality of what you get, the Met offers good value for money. Definitely a place I would suggest when you want a good/even better steak.

What’s all the hype about?

By Timothy D |

Good food? Sure. Worth the price? Nah. Service? Nothing special. We were here with a group of 11. The service was prompt but not over the top. Not really what I expected when you’re getting ready to drop about $800-$1000 on a meal. I didn’t feel the steak was any better than one I would order at your typical national chain. Our server seemed disappointed that we didn’t order any drinks or dessert. In the end, I ended up having a good meal but the overall experience wasn’t anything to write home about.

Expensive Bad Steaks

By leartz |

4 friends had dinner at the Metropolitan tonight. Ambience and service were fine. Steaks were expensive and awful!! My $89 ribeye was thin and tasteless. The other steaks were as expensive or more and were almost as bad. I don’t generally write reviews, but needed to do this one.

Amazing experience until the 20% surcharge!!

By Kit |

We came in for dinner last night for our anniversary. The Met has been one of our favorite restaurants for over 20 years! The service, food, and ambience was great -as usual. Then, everything was ruined when we got the bill and learned at the end of our evening that there is 20% surcharge to our bill. 20%! This was $105 in addition to our bill!! This is ridiculous and has left a very bad taste in our mouth. In fact, we made reservations to return after the game Monday evening and now are planning on canceling these plans and going somewhere that doesn’t have this surcharge. We feel as though it was a sneaky and low surprise at the end of a great evening. Not sure we will ever return.

Not worth the money

By robbmadd |

The Caesar salad should not be called a Caesar. Lettuce leaves with a lot of goopy dressing. The spinach salad was very good. I ordered the filet mignon it was tough and gristly. It was hard to cut with the steak knife provided. The top sirloin was good but nothing to write home about. The carrot cake was awesome. Service was seriously compromised with the servers having too many tables and very few buss persons

Good Steaks

By JohnT |

We have eaten at Metro several times over the years. We have always enjoyed the food and service. The obvious food choice is steak or seafood. The Seattle salmon is always a good choice. We have always enjoyed the busy ambiance of this Seattle landmark steak restaurant.

Classic Old School Steakhouse

By BJAATL |

If you want a large, old school steak house, this is your place. Extremely traditional. One of the largest whiskey lists, I've ever seen. All food was great. Snow beef was one of hte best pieces I have ever had, and you pay for it. Prices are steep but the vibe is energizing. Crab cakes are bargain for what you get. Ribeye was exceptional,

You Want Steak?

By scootercus |

Recommended by friends who used to live in the area. The quintessential steak house. Extensive wine list. We had the filet two ways and the bourbon aged strip. Steaks done well and the side were a nice complement. You want a steak house, this is the place to go.

Not a good experience.

By Tim B |

$700 bill, plus the forced 20% service fee, plus tax totaled a $900 dining experience for six people (2 adults, 4 children under 21). For that price, we received 5 steaks and 1 lobster tail that were all COLD! Maybe two of the steaks could have been considered lukewarm. Our waiter seemed to be struggling to keep up with all his tables so maybe he missed on the timing? Not sure, but it was disappointing to say the least.

Wonderful!

By Craig W |

We came to the Met for our anniversary dinner during the COVID restrictions. The restaurant was not packed as normal. We were about 15 minutes early, were seated promptly, and received exquisite service from our waiter and staff. We started with the Prawn Martini appetizer and were absolutely blown away with the size and tenderness of those prawns (AKA small lobsters). Thankfully there were only four of them for the two of us. The rest of the meal and drinks were fabulous. I could go on and on about the food and service, but you have to experience it for yourself. Thanks, Met, for a wonderful dining experience!

Pricey but worth it

If you’re looking for a place to have a nice fancy or special dinner out, there is it. Excellent food and the staff was amazing.

Always Dynamite

By brianrounds |

I haven’t been here in a few years and what else can you say about this place. It’s always dynamite every single time. It’s amazing how they continue this fantastic tradition of excellence year after year. Our reception was great, our server was warm and welcoming. The drinks, wine, food and dessert was delicious! It’s always dynamite!

2 hours in and the steak was returned twice! They need better training.

By rossicola |

I really do not like writing bad reviews. Truly. I ALWAYS give management a chance to remedy a bad situation but this was just too bad an experience. in fact, it is the worst I have ever experienced. It is clear that it is a training issue - both in the kitchen and for management. My friend had been to this restaurant several years ago with her husband and loved it. So, we waited until our last night in Seattle to eat here as our last "hoorah". What a let down. It was something that if I had not experienced it for myself, would have sounded it had been made up. My friend and I were seated in a back corner booth. We were surrounded by large parties. We waited 15 minutes for a server to even acknowledge us. We ordered two $15 glasses of Pinot and waited another 15 minutes for the wine to be delivered. (30 minutes) We then each ordered a Ceasar salad. It took another 15 minutes. (45 minutes) The salads came and they were the saltiest we have ever experienced (and we both like salt). We were able to flag a busser to find our server. That took another 10 minutes. (55 minutes). We were very nice about it but told him we couldn't eat them so he took them away. The busser brings us some bread. Thankfully as we are both starving. The server returns to take our entree orders (1 hour) I ordered the prime filet & American Wagyu filet combo at $80 My friend ordered the skirt steak at $49. Not something she would normally ordered but it was recommended on her last visit and it was delicious. She ordered hers rare, I ordered mine pink. 15 minutes later. (1 hour, 15 minutes) My friend's steak came out fine. My steak came out almost raw. Not rare, raw. No big deal. It happens sometimes. So, I figured I would eat my vegetables until the waiter returned. They were both cold. Not room temperature. Cold. I told my friend to go ahead and eat her steak while it was hot while we waited for our waiter ... and waited, and waited, and waited. We finally waived down a busboy to find our waiter or any waiter at that point. Reminder, I have had now 3 sips of wine, a piece of bread. (1 hour, 15 minutes) I showed him my steak and told him I understand it happens and I could see how busy they were BUT .. even our vegetables were cold. He apologized and returned 10 minutes - yes 10 minutes later (1 hour 25) with my cooked steak and veggies along with the manager. The manager asked me to cut just into the middle of the steak to see if it looked good and it did. They walked away and when I tried to cut through my steak - it was like shoe leather on the bottom. Ugh. I could not believe it. I thought I was being punk'd. Seriously. I flipped it over and the entire bottom was BURNT. Both pieces of filet. Oh boy ... so, while we waited again to try to get our waiter's attention - I started to eat my veggies and ...you guessed it, they were still cold. When our server finally surfaces I show him the meat - still being very nice about it. He is embarrassed and says, "Yes. It looks like they rushed it. I am so sorry. Thank you for being so nice about this. Let me go get the manager." We are now in this restaurant almost at 2 HOURS and I am starving. Sidenote - we are trying to continue our night with conversation and there is rock music blaring in our ears. I love rock- but NOT in a high-end steakhouse. I am more patient than most when I see how busy they are - but this was getting ridiculous and disrespectful. The manager could have said, "I am very sorry. We are very busy tonight which is really no excuse. Let me have the kitchen remake everything - even if you take it home - and let me take care of your bill for your patience and inconvenience." He did not. Instead, he stood there looking at me as though I was at fault for something. He said, "Well, I asked you to cut into it and you said it was fine." I calmly replied, "I did. However, when I went to cut through it - I couldn't. Look at the meat. The entire bottom is burnt and it is like shoe leather." He then said, "Well, let me buy you ladies dessert." What????? I am starving at this point. My friend has eaten by herself. We are annoyed, tired and I am starving. I explained that I did not want dessert. We came to the oldest steakhouse in Seattle to get a great steak. They had one thing to get right and they failed - TWICE. He then said, "So do you not want dessert?" I said, "No. I do not. In fact, I am done. I want to leave and go get something to eat. You have made a bad situation worse. You could have remedied all of this with taking responsibility and making it right." He simply walked away. The server came back with the bill! I couldn't believe it. It was for my friend's meal and for our 2 glasses of wine of which were at $24 a glass because he said they ran out of the $15 a glass wine. Soooo, why were we not told or asked? Why was that not given to us at $15? At this point. We were both done we wanted to leave and so we paid the bill with the 18% gratuity attached to it. (We normally begin tipping at 20% so I guess we were ahead?). So, the 2 hours of aggravation we experienced - cost US $115. They SHOULD have comped the entire meal AND given us a gift certificate to return. THAT is how you apologize for a horrible experience and time. Customers sitting in your restaurant for over 2 hours and their meal not coming out right - TWICE. Customers who have been very nice about it. That is how you try to gain their patronage back. This is a training issue. The waiter had too many sections to cover. Restaurants are dealing with this right now but it all comes down to management and how he handled this situation. Consumers have so many choices and they are going to return to the place that makes them feel appreciated and respected as well as the quality of the food. The manager may have thought he was simply dealing with two women and it was no big deal. Bad experiences cause a domino effect. I do hope upper management reads this and does a better job training their staff, especially their managers. I tried talking to your manager. I gave him multiple chances. I even called your restaurant afterwards to try to talk to someone to share this experience - to try to help you - nothing else. My call was never returned. In terms of Seattle, it is very sad. One of the most beautiful parts of this country and the city is in shambles. The police were defunded and the city has been overtaken with homeless and people high on drugs everywhere. Women do not feel safe walking in the city, especially at night. Off duty military are policing stores. However, when it came to eating out - we had incredible meals everywhere we went - with the exception of Metropolitan Grill which based on its claims and prices - should have been the best.

If only there were more Gluten Free options for delivery...

By R K L |

Normal times would probably find us abroad and at the least enjoying dinners out multiple times each week when not traveling. However, these days are nothing close to anything we would consider normal. The Metropolitan Grill provides us with a very good, reasonable option for continuing to enjoy fine food delivered to our home. No need to unnecessarily be exposed to any germs. Just pop the ready-to-heat/bake food in the oven. On several occasions, I have enjoyed the King Salmon entree and Grilled Asparagus side. Sadly, I could only imagine how wonderful the Crab Cakes and Crab Crusted Halibut were tasting. If only there were more Gluten Free options for delivery from the Metropolitan Grill, then it could definitely be a weekly go-to dinner delivery option.

Onion soup

By Sabrina H |

My husband who’s been in Seattle many times has often told me about the onion soup at Metropolitan grill; finally I was able to join him on a trip to try it for myself and I was not disappointed. Hoping to return soon.

We enjoyed the Cadence wine…

By Jackinbama |

This is a very nice restaurant. The decor and atmosphere are excellent. The service was very good especially the wine sommelier (Chris Lara) who served us an excellent bottle of Cadence wine. We shared their 34 ounce porterhouse with a side of creamed spinach. Both excellent choices. Great wine list. Greta menu.

Less than Expected

By nagsteve |

Rave reviews by some, not so stellar by others but we decided to give it a try. Celebrated a special occassion with friends. The place was packed, extremely noisy and crowded, thank goodness we were seated in the back room. The servers were pleasant, however extremely busy so service was quite slow. $610 for 5 people, 2 appetizers and salads, entree and bottle of wine (not the expensive kind either!). For that price we were expecting to be blown away...our wallets were but not our palate! Although steaks were cooked to order, they were lukewarm. Nice touch to offer a complimentary anniversary Creme Brulee, but it wound charged to our account. We didn't mention it because the server was so slow, we just signed the check and left. No fault of the server, they appeared understaffed. We don't mind paying a premium for premium service and food, this was not a premium. We had better piping hot steaks for a better value and better attentive service at El Gaucho and Ruth Chris. Will not return nor advised our friends to either.

Excellent steaks, best beer, good wine and friendliest service

The recommendation was spot on. We were well looked after and got the best of everything. The snacks were prepared exactly as requested, the drinks were well selected and at the perfect temperature. The service was also unique. Highly recommended.

Top Notch

Not my first visit and certainly not my last. The food was excellent. Great steak and fish with caring service. On my list for a return visit in a few weeks when I am in town again.

Best COVID precautions we’ve seen

By Efusco |

Rather than a standard review, I’m copying a complimentary message I sent the restaurant tonight: Hi, my family and I enjoyed a really nice dinner celebrating my boys’ 21st birthday tonight. For reasons I can’t explain we had not dined at Metro Grill for a few years. While the meal and service were as good or better than I remembered, what struck us most tonight was the excellent execution of protective measures against COVID. From requiring reservations, to well placed clear signage, plexiglass separating tables, proper mask usage by staff, and hand cleaner on every table...It was clear how seriously you were taking the well-being of my family and the other guests. Many places businesses do the bare minimum, or not even that, this was refreshing and very much appreciated. It certainly will be a much shorter interval to our next visit. Thank you. Birthday girls night out celebration

By Lisa R |

What can I say but the customer service care was off the chain 💯, pear lemon drop excellent, food portions huge great experiment

Not sure what has happened to this once great steak house

By ABZ |

PROs -great service at the bar from servers like Jeff -good selection of drinks and good wines -fun vibe CONs -OVER PRICED steaks which are not good. We sent 2 steaks back because they were so tough and tasteless. For $65 USD, that steak has to be PERFECT! Servers at the bar handled situation well and were sympathetic. Reduce your margins and GET the BEST STEAKS for that price. I was at the Chicago CHOP HOUSE two weeks prior and for $40 I had the BEST STEAK i've had in a long time! -Jumbo Shrimps were TASTELESS and NO FLAVOR. Get Patagonian Pinks vs those farm raised shrimp -by 8pm they were out of rare PRIME RIB on a FRIDAY night? Someone is not planning correctly! I was disappointed

Obsessed with the Met!

By Ava Renee |

Obsessed.!!!! I heard that “the Met” is a classic steakhouse but somehow doesn’t feel old or stuffy at all…just confident. The service is actually amazing, like, they really care, the steak was perfect, and everything felt effortless. If this place were in New York it would be packed every night. 10/10,!!!would go back immediately!!!

Amazing

By Ann C |

Wonderful selection of drinks and lobster was exquisite. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Will return.

20% ‘tax’

By Daniel G |

We had a wonderful meal at the Met. However noticed on the dessert menu the commentary at the bottom noting a 20% COMPULSORY service charge for ALL items that is handed directly to the company (not a tip for the waiter). This is a reprehensible practice that is bad for both the customer and the waiting staff and should be changed immediately. As noted by other commenters here, this should not be a hidden cost to diners - if you want to charge 20% more to line your pockets then raise the prices of the items.

Exceptional Food and One of the Best Wine Lists in the USA

By Fred M |

Not having eaten at this restaurant in years, I chose to return and eat in the bar for lunch. Everything about the meal was excellent! The service was outstanding, and the wine list is one of the best in the United States. Cocktails were perfectly made and ample. I started with the Dungeness crab cocktail with huge claw meat and fresh sauce. I had a nice Condrieu to drink which had aged quite well and very affordable. The lunch rib eye was cooked to perfection with asparagus and mashed potatoes. I also enjoyed a half bottle of Domaine Serene Pinot Noir which went perfectly with the steak. The sommelier certainly knows about the wines. By the time I left the restaurant was packed. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in Seattle and most definitely will return.

The worst steakhouse we have ever experienced.

By Bart S |

Probably the worst steakhouse meal we have had. To start, service was horrible. Salads came very quickly then we waited a long time for the steaks. The salads were so disappointing, the wedge salad was a small bunch of iceberg with a few overcooked pieces of bacon. Horrible. One steak was ordered medium, it came rare. Very rare. Then they cooked it more but the fillet was ‘mushy’. No kidding. My rib eye was thin, and not to steakhouse flavor. My steak came with steak fries. A joke.. They were thrown on the plate, and cold. No doubt they were the frozen kind. Service was bad, never saw our server after the steaks were delivered. I would run not walk from going. This is not a steak house quality restaurant. Such a huge disappointment.

Very Expensive

By shirleyt_10 |

We celebrated my husband's birthday here. The meal and the service were excellent but it was very expensive. $250 for two people seems like a lot to me and we didn't even have dessert.

Metropolitan Grill rescued our dinner experience

By connief |

Our dinner experience at Metropolitan Grill was varied. We called last minute for a reservation since the restaurant appeared completely booked and were fortunate to secure a table in the bar. Upon arrival, we were greeted and escorted to a very nice high top table. Dinner began with mouthwatering French onion soup and a gorgeous Washington wine served by the attentive Jen. Then on to the most delicious iceberg wedge we’ve ever had, accompanied by hot crusty bread. We were thrilled with our experience so far and looked forward to our main course. That’s when things took a turn. The steak was not cooked to order—not even close—and all of our sides were lukewarm at best. We thought about muddling through but at $82 for a ribeye, we thought “no, this has to be fixed.” The good news is the manager Paul came over, apologized and graciously agreed to “start over” with our main course. We happily agreed and said we were in no hurry. While we waited we were treated to more great wine, and when our food arrived for the second time it was delicious! To end the rather long evening, we were treated once again, this time with scrumptious desserts, most of which we took back to the hotel to enjoy the next day. Every restaurant experiences a glitch now and then; it’s how they respond that differentiates a great restaurant. Given our experience, we would define recommend Metropolitan Grill and would return. Thank you Jen and Paul!

Cocktail class is a must!!!

By Savannah B |

I wanted to thank Rob, Kyle, and the Met crew for an amazing experience! I attended one of their biweekly cocktail classes and I can’t recommend it enough. If you’re looking for a safe respite to enjoy great food, drink and company, this is the place!

Horrible Service, Arrogant, Snippy

By NorthStar745179 |

Horrible and Livid with the experience. Waitress was non-attentive, snippy and arrogant. I was with customers and very embarrassing. Food was below expectations and pricing for the quality. I sent an email to the restaurant, but they never bothered to respond. They automatically charged a 20% gratuity on a group of 6 when they deserved $0. Never again...plenty of better steakhouses in Seattle!
