Can’t wait to come back

Fresh herbs, spices, and ingredients contribute to the beautiful and scrumptious food. We ordered the enchiladas, guacamole, and carrot soup. Every bite dazzled us. Thanks for the great service, Bibi!!!

Unexpected upscale!

By Henry W |

As others have stated emphatically, this is not a typical Mexican restaurant. Our waiter went out of his way to underscore the fact that the owners want it to reflect a fusion of US and Mexican/Central American coastal cuisine. First and foremost, the prices are more typical for fine dining, and the menu descriptions reflect those in a fine dining restaurant. The intent is to feature seafood, and the menu would be at home in the upscale dining room of am upscale hotel on the Mexican riviera. Given that, we look forward to visiting again when just a few new opening bugs are worked out. My wife's excellent margarita kicked off an excellent dining experience. Our lunch meals arrived hot and fresh and very attractively presented. The kitchen seems to especially like adorning multiple dishes with dots of fresh crema, and that adds color contrast. My wife's chicken enchiladas had to be specially ordered with chicken inside the tortillas, as she is allergic to cheese, and the restaurant's practice is to serve the protein outside and next to the enchilada, not in it. Her dish was excellent, with an ample portion of the daily special warm salsa surrounding it. I also ordered chicken enchiladas with no special request, and regrettably my plate was a bit short of the excellent warm salsa - some under the enchilada, but none under or around the slices of perfectly roasted and tender chicken breast. I was able to move some of my wife's salsa to my plate, and it perfectly perked up the mild chicken breast. There are some differences between the on-line menu and the one in the restaurant. The daily meat and fish specials are not easily found. We were particularly drawn to the "Happy Hour" menu because of the choices and more accessible pricing, so "Happy Hour" will be our nest visit and we may post another review of that experience.

Mi Cava - a tasteful experience.

Start with the El Chignon margarita, guacamole and fresh tostones. Then venture onto the seafood entrees and tacos. Either way - you’re in for enjoying Mi Cava + Covina’s beautifully seasoned dishes, fresh ingredients in a welcoming atmosphere. Make this your one good habit worth repeating.

Absolutely incredible

By Nadia G |

Wow. We just got home from dinner. It was absolutely wonderful. My octopus was to die for. Succulent, perfectly cooked and flavourful. Best octopus I’ve had in this country - by a LONG way. The accompanying salad, rice and tortillas were likewise amazing. My husband had the carnitas and spent the whole meal in a state of bliss. Our server was kind and welcoming. Cocktails were brilliant. It was just a truly incredible meal. I cannot recommend this place enough. Come here and bring friends - this restaurant really deserves to succeed. We went on a Saturday night and there was great Latin music too on the patio outside. I hope it gets busy enough for there to be dancing there soon! The space is large so if you want a quiet meal there’s plenty of space inside where it’s quiet. We can’t wait to come back. Probably in a few days time.

Locked out on Thanksgiving

By Carlos A |

If you’re considering eating here, do yourself a favor and don’t. My family and I arrived for our 8pm Thanksgiving reservation, only to find the doors locked, the sign turned off, and staff very clearly inside pretending the world outside didn’t exist. Eventually someone stepped out—not to apologize, not to explain, not to offer even the slightest attempt at making things right—but simply to inform us that our reservation had been canceled and that we were essentially S.O.L. That was it. No “We’re sorry,” no call, no email, no text. Just a cold door slammed in our faces on a cold, rainy holiday night. The level of indifference was honestly breathtaking. It takes effort to treat people this poorly. To make a reservation days in advance only to be met with a shrug and a locked entrance is beyond unprofessional—it’s downright shameful. This restaurant has mastered the art of making guests feel like an inconvenience. If you’re looking for a place that respects its customers, look literally anywhere else. This was garbage-level service from start to finish.

A unique Mexican restaurant

By Janis N |

We had party of 5 for a birthday dinner. A big circular booth made conversation & sharing & laughing easier and fun. A good wine list in addition to a long list of margaritas. And what a unique Mexican menu. Good prices. Loved the octopus and will return for the mole chicken. Our delightful waitress surprised us with a birthday panna cotta. Have spread the word to friends and will return soon. 👍🏻😀

Wonderful service and Mexican food! The Seafood Enchiladas were amazing and my wife really liked her Chili Relenno. We will definitely be back!
