Not your average Mexican restaurant

By Lana M |

Always good food and drinks. Not your traditional Mexican eatery....really great fresh food and special drinks. Well worth a visit.

A Dallas Staple

By Gregory B |

I lived in Dallas from 1994 to 2011, so have been very familiar with MiCocina for decades, and stop there every time I return. I think people outside of DFW don’t understand what MiCocina is. That is, it’s not a high end restaurant. It’s a staple, where families eat dinner, where couples grab lunch, and where countless businesses lunches take place. The service tends to be fast. Since it’s super popular for business lunches, it needs to be quick. The food is very good, not fancy but in many ways unique. Everyone has their MiCocina favorites. My wife loves the Latin stir fry dishes, which are mostly gone now except for the Chicken Modern or the vegetable fajitas. I usually get chicken enchiladas or fajitas of one sort or another. And, though I am not that much into margaritas, a MiCocina margarita on the rocks with salt begins every meal there. When I was younger it was two margaritas, now it’s one, but always enjoyed.

“To me, average....”

By Summit Seeker |

Being from Tennessee, was hoping to impress my wife with some decent Mexican fare, as we have nothing back home that even comes close. Unfortunately, decent was about all we encountered. Started with a chicken quesadilla and chips and queso, and added brisket tacos for our entree. The queso was good, but everything was just ok. The sauce on the brisket tacos made them a bit soaked, and not as tasty. It’s Kinda like adding bbq sauce to pulled pork, and then stirring it up: it just isn’t the same... The margaritas were not that great either. I will say the service was good. I’d probably skip this place and try somewhere else on my next visit to Dallas.

Sunday Brunch

By winnie c |

We went after church for a family outing and loved their Margaritas and sodas for the youg ones. The help was attentive and suggted certain dishes which we enjoyed. Since I am unfamiliar with Mexican foods , their advice was very helpful. I can't tell you all the dishes but their enchiladas were excellent and the portions were very generous.

O.K. food at a redicously high price!

By AtlantaTrixie |

Way too expensive for the quality of food served. Take my advice and take your Mexican food craving to Chuy's instead!

Great Service, Great Atmosphere, Good Soup

By Kelly O |

I just had a bowl of the tortilla soup. The portion size was very generous. The soup was enough for a meal. The service here is always impeccable and professional. The restaurant after the renovation a few years back is very modern, trendy, contemporary. The food always comes out very quickly and perfect every time. I'm always amazed, they never have an off day. The only drawback was that at the lunch rush it was incredibly loud in the restaurant. I really couldn't hear my husband sitting across from me. it made the experience a little uncomfortable.

odd decor but yummy food

By Kristin S |

I didn't expect an Asian decor for a Tex Mex restaurant but that's what I got. Our server was super helpful as we all tried to choose our orders. The chips and salsa were amazing as was the queso. I ordered the chicken in mole sauce and it was perfect.

Great Mexican Food in North Dallas

By Toni S |

We came to Dallas for NTIF. When it came to dinner, we didn’t want to eat at Fair Park so we found this place not far from our Air BnB. Guacamole dip was spot on. We both had the enchilada dinner & again spot on. So much food we had to ask take out boxes. After a long day, I had a double margarita. Tasted good & refreshing. Hubby had iced tea. Waiter checked on us frequently. When we got the check, my hubby asked if they had military discount, so waiter checked & said no but manager gave us a discount for 1st timers. That’s how you keep patrons coming back! We gave the discounted amount to our waiter-it was that much!! We will eat here at the north Dallas site for every Dallas visit.

An amazing place

By Cesar D |

The service in the restaurant is incredible and very clean, yesterday I went with my family and the waitress Carina gave us magnificent service. Super recommended.

Another one of my favorites!

By Amanda H |

I've ALWAYS had amazing service here! The food is always fresh, meat tender and drinks strong! It's definitely one of my favorites!

Not your typical Tex-Mex...

By Goman94 |

We visited this restaurant soon after moving to Dallas. We were looking for the typical Mexican place - not here. It has an upscale look and food was little too puffed up for Mexican. I was very disappointed that they don't serve a strawberry daiquiri.

Consistently Good Service and Food

By CraftBeers |

Mi Cocina is an upscale Mexican restaurant that has been in business at this location for a very long time. My wife and I both have visited this restaurant over the years for business and pleasure. It has a modern futuristic look with wavy textured walls, aqua blue ceiling lights, and bubble chandeliers. The tables and floor are drab and plain, but it works. The physical layout has two areas. The main restaurant requires host arranged seating. The back room with its own side entrance is a bar with open seating. You will be waited at your table or bar, but you don't have to wait for a host to seat you. It's great for just popping in to have a drink or quick meal. Service is consistent. They are attentive, pleasant and knowledgeable. It can sometimes take awhile for refills, food delivery and check out. I like that feature for business meetings, but I don't like it for personal visits. The food is good but not great. The Pozole soup has nice seasoning. The guacamole is fresh and well made. Chicken quesadillas are always great tasting, but I have had some dry and luke warm. It's kind of rare, but it happens. This is a go-to place for business meetings. They never seem to be more than half full. We can make a last minute decision to have a meeting here and get a seat right away.

great mexican

Great meal, great atmosphere! upscale mexican but not too expensive

Great food!

By Jen Palmieri |

Always great food and good service. My favorite meal: brisket tacos. Good mojitos too. Bob served us today. He was great. I’m always happy to eat at this restaurant and enjoy the mall and the ice skaters.

Mi Cocina

By Shelly2008 |

We love Mi Conina. This is my very favorite mexican place. The food is always hot and fresh. Sometimes there is a wait to get a table but it is always with the wait.

Cool

By sofiene K |

Superb restaurant in the heart of the Downtown business district, impeccable service, very good food, very cool atmosphere

Lovely mexican food

By Travellover6128 |

I had no idea what to expect of this chain restaurant, however I was really impressed with everything! We arrived early one saturday (circa 5.30) and by 6.15 the restaurant was fairly full. So if you want to be seated immediately at the weekend i'd advise to come that little bit earlier. Service was very prompt and friendly and portions are a good size. As i was only peckish and not starving hungry, i decided to have a starter as a main meal, which was a great size and very tasty. We also had sunset fajitas, which were lovely. Prices are fairly reasonable. For 1 starters, 1 main and 2 beers we paid $34, which i thought was about right. Would definitely go back again

The service and food are both terrific

By tlindsay42 |

Our waiter Bob, was attentive, polite & friendly, but not intrusive. The salmon was excellent. I look forward to coming back for to try the ribeye carne asada that Bob recommended. Mi Cocina is a great location for business lunches.

Good Mexican Food with attractive location

By civility |

We ate at the Highland Part location. The menu is extensive, prices are very reasonable and the restaurant is attractive. The food was very good although standard Mexican fare. If you are looking for good traditional Mexican food this is a great place and a nice restaurant to bring the family or a group.

Yum!

By Katie S |

Love Mi Cocina! One of the many good Mexican restaurants in Dallas! I always get the #4 previously known as Chris' special.

Awesome Tex Mex

By Nick Z |

Mi Cocina is Tex Mex at its best. I’ve been going to Mi Cocina for 20+ years. Mi Cocina is the best Tex Mex chain with consistent quality. Try the Chicken Pazole soup on a cold day, Mamas Tacos, mango and jicama shrimp ceviche, fundido queso, and fajitas.

Good food, good service, great margarita

By Peter Lau |

A busy place with prices in the higher-medium range. Food is good without being fantastic and the same goes for the service. However; the margarita with a sangria swirl are absolutely amazing (mambo taxi or mambo #5)

Enjoyed the food and atmosphere

By StephenBarger |

I went there this past week, the food was good, the service was good. It wasn't anything fancy, but it more than met the needs.

Good experience

By Linda C |

Service was good and food was good but not the best I've ever had. The guacamole was a little bland and the brisket tacos were just average. My daughter had chicken fajitas but they weren't steaming hot like most places serve them. They weren't very busy when we got there at 6:30 but it was busy when we left. I had the Tropical Mojoto and it was a little too sweet for me but it was presented very well. Nice atmosphere !

Great food but Loud during rush hour

By pinkbikerider |

Our group was in Dallas shopping & this restaurant was suggested. We liked the food, very nice selection, great margaritas but it was very loud! We couldn't decide if it was the floor tiles that amplified the noise or the music being up so that everyone was trying to talk over it! Next time we will order dinner to go.

Fresh Tex-Mex Good Quality

By Rodger K |

We went there for lunch. The atmosphere is modern and austere. It doesn't have the warm feeling normally associated with a Mexican restaurant. But the food is really good. It was freshly prepared and good quality.

Nice Lunch and shopping

By Mary B |

Had a lovely lunch with friends here while visiting Dallas. Great margaritas and taco salad! Nice atmosphere and shopping all around. Great way to spend the day in Dallas.

Great Service and Food!

By Juliette0416 |

I usually call ahead and have never had to wait. My food is ready, hot and fresh! Love the chips and salsa. I have never had a disappointing meal or service.

Always top notch

By |

Mi Cocina is consistently excellent. Dunno who posted the "No Inglish" review...this is not a Spanish place. Very Americanized Mexican food but excellent none the less.

Very good but somewhat overpriced

By TripFan045 |

I like Mi Cocina. Along with Carolina's Mexican Cuisine, it is probably my favorite mexican restaurant in the area. Not surprisingly Carolina's was started by the co-founder of Mi Cocina, so that probably makes sense. I think Mi Cocina has run their course as a fad (which I feel like they were for a while) and come out the other end as a stable good all around restaurant. I would say that all their food is very good but also a little overpriced which comes from being such a popular restaurant for such a long time. This location doesn't have quite as much going for it as their Legacy location in Plano or a few of their inner Dallas locations like the ones at Highland Park Village or West Village, but still has a good feel and a great atmosphere. I would recommend their enchiladas and of course their margaritas.

Not sure I understand the hpe

By Rick H |

I do frequent Mi Cocina periodically, mostly because there is not another Tex-Mex place close to my office. I will admit the food and service are consistently decent, By my own admission, I like the more local favor Tex-Mex places where there is more made on-site. The food is what I would call average. I don't rate it anything special mostly due to the processed cheese they use. The cheese enchiladas are ok, but the sometime they taste like there is a cheese stick rolled up in a tortilla. The service has always been good and the hostesses are always there with a smile. All that being said, this is a place that a lot of folks really like and it suites their Tex-Mex palate. Give it a try and see if it is for you.

Always perfect

By Amy J |

We were out of town and I needed my Mexican fix. This is the place for the perfect margarita. Our queso was delicious. We sat in the bar so we could watch the game and had a great time. Nachos Locos are always the go to perfect meal. I enjoyed the chicken tacos. All white meat and so delicious.

No Inglish Spoken hear

By Explore35713 |

With all the restauarants in Dallas, you are better off to pass on Mi Cocina. its obvious that immigrate labor and high drink prices are driving huge chain profits. if you can't speak spanish you are out of luck.... Next time I'll pass on this Restaurant chain and I suggest you do the same

The Guac!!!

By JenniferG9580 |

This was where our company took us out to eat during our orientation dinner. This was my first trip to Dallas so I was very excited to try some Tex-Mex!! Their drinks are amazing and the guacamole was out of this world. Fresh with big chunks of avocado along with fresh cilantro, lime, and whatever else they put in there! The food was great as well. My only complaint was that it was very loud in the restaurant because it is very closely seated and it is always packed. It made it hard to hold a conversation at a normal tone. I will definitely revisit on my next trip to Dallas, though!

Excellent Food

By OnThe50Yardline |

The service and food is always excellent at this restaurant. They are pros there. The interior is very nice compared to other restaurants in the area and way above standard for the price of the food. The carry-out is a bit expensive, but sit-down prices are reasonable and the food is outstanding.

I love the brisket tacos

By Divina P |

Great food and good service. I'm a sucker for their brisket tacos. I've gone here a handful of times and each time, I'm pleased by the experience. I'd totally recommend this place to friends and family.

Great Value

By paradoxlost |

i have lived in Texas my entire life and have no connection to this restaurant. the reviewer just above (No Inglish Spoken Here) has something personal against Mi Cocina. Ignore it. It is perhaps the best tex-mex in Dallas, and I say that even though it is a chain (albeit a small local one). The atmosphere borders on elegant, food is always made with fresh ingredients, and the prices are good. Excellent value.

This Location Was Just Average

By TJ |

We have been to several Mi Cocina locations in the Dallas area. This location was just average. The service was very good, but the food was average.

FIVE STAR SERVICE LONG LUNCH BEST TEX MEX

By 5StarPro |

If you are looking for THE best Tex Mex in the far N Dallas area with outstanding friendly service , check out Mi Cocina at Frankford and the Tollroad. If it's a hot Texas afternoon and you want to linger this is the spot to cool down and relax. When you walk in , you're immediately greeted with a friendly smile. Request to be seated in Alvaro's section if you're lucky and he is available . Slide into a comfortable booth and order a Mambo Taxi which is a delicious ice cold swirl of Margarita twisted with Sangria. We ordered some queso and fresh warm chips. Alvaro knows the menu and made some great recommendations. Try their combo fajitas. Very generous portions. Alvaro made sure we were never unattended and anticipated what we needed. Professional , friendly five star service! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Good Food

Took a group of 15 business colleagues here for lunch the other day. The food is quite good and very reasonably priced. Service was excellent, especially considering the size of our party.

Sundy Lunch in July 2023

By Journey60200689627 |

Based on recommendation from my co-worker I went to the one in Irving for lunch on this Sunday and ordered FAGEETA mixed. Chicken was good, but beef- I couldn't chew and finally gave up.

Worst Mexican Food EVER!!

By Cj P |

I liked Mi Cocina when it was in Oak Cliff. I was so excited to see it downtown. I just knew we were. in for a terrific treat. NOT!!! This is the worst Mexican food I have ever had, except for the salsa (obviously from a bottle). The salsa was decent. The service was fine. I ordered beef enchiladas and chicken tortilla soup. My daughter ordered the sunset enchiladas. My first bite of the enchilada was a shock! It was ground beef (okay) wrapped in a corn tortilla (expected), and topped with what tasted like canned, potted meat (maybe Wolf Brand Chili). It tasted awful. I like Wolf Brand Chili, but it is not for an enchilada. After the first few bites, my stomach started to hurt and I felt a bad case of indigestion coming on. I rarely get indigestion, so this told me the food was really bad. Needless to say, I did not finish the enchilada. The rice was okay. The refried beans were soupy and definitely canned, cooked with water and not mixed very well. The chicken tortilla soup was tomato paste and water, made to look like soup with 5 big pieces of canned chicken. Yuck! Like I said, worst Mexican food ever. My adult daughter, visiting from out of town, could eat her enchiladas. They were equally bad tasting, poorly cooked. Never again!!! Worst Mexican food EVER!!!

Salad to die for

By Mknmraz |

Ok, I have heard that the salad with chicken fajita meat on it was good and also health you but it is better than good!!! Delicious!

Consistently Good Food

By TravelerStL |

We travel to Dallas regularly and always stop at Mi Cocina. We have had the chicken mole, heuvos y chorizo, pot roast tacos, and other dishes, and all have been delicious. I would prefer warm chips, but we try not to eat many anyway so we have room for the large portions of food. The wait staff is very efficient.

Very good food and service

By ginnabenke |

Mi Cocina never disappoints. The service is always fast, pleasant and helpful. The staff is well versed on the menu and they know how to answer questions. The food is always fresh and delicious. It is not typical Tex-Mex. They have some interesting and inventive dishes that you won't see other places. The flavors are good and there seems to be something for everyone. The margaritas are very good as well and pack a powerful punch. I never get tired of going to Mi Cocina.

ALWAYS GOOD FOOD AND SERVICE

By Mikef1949 |

My wife and I dined here with a business associate today and it was very good again. We dine hear often for lunch and the food and service are always great.

Not Your Average Mexican Resturant

By Ready_For_Sun10 |

We had a free night during our recent sales meeting in Dallas. Our hotel recommended Mi Cocina as an excellent place to go for Mexican food. We were not disappointed. This is a very upscale place but with a comfortable feel. Just like you would find in Mexico. We started with beverages, the Aniversario Margarita's were tasty and went down well with the homemade Guac; mmmm. Everyone commented on how good their dinners were. We had the Cocina Changa, Ernies Chicken, Taco Mi Tierra, Chicken Fajitas, Asada Beef and Mama's Chicken. If my travels take me back to Dallas I will definetly make another trip to Mi Cocina.

Great food and atmosphere!

By Bumamabear |

Awesome restaurant for mexcian food. The ambiance, food and service were excellent! Reasonably priced!

bad representation of Mi Cocina. Try the one by Legacy or Galleria

By lil_drama |

Awful service. Waiter was very inattentive and messed up order twice (i.e., took order, messed it up, was corrected, brought replacement that was also messed up). Ultimately I was unable to eat anything. No offer of compensation. Frequently had to flag down waiter for service. This is a shame. Other Mi Cocina's are quite nice. Try the one at Shops at Legacy instead.

Delicious and Great Service

By SammySutton |

The food is delicious and the service was fantastic. Joseph was great!!! The chicken quesadilla was great! The salsa is nice and spicy.

Wow - great

By glmorgan |

We tried the appetizer with shrimp and mango it was very good. Loved the nachos with the poblano cheese sauce. Absolutely tasty and full of flavor. Would definitely go back. Service was very good.

Fabulous Food and Service

By Jeane141 |

My daughter frequents this restaurant a lot. So while visiting in Dallas she wanted to take us to where she gets her Mexican food and I was so glad we did. We went in the lounge area and was waited on by a fabulous server. I wish I had gotten his name but I didn't pay the tab so I didn't see it. He started off by impressing me with his memory. He remembered my daughter as well as our order without writing it down. That always impresses me. The food was awesome. Spinach enchiladas with rice was my order and it didn't disappoint. Sometimes when you eat Tex Mex and you're accustomed to Cali Mex you can tell the difference, but if it was I didn't notice it because is was just plain good! Plenty of seating in the lounge while watching sports on TV rounded off a pleasant atmosphere. This might be a chain but the service and food made it feel like it was a mom and pop!

A frequent customer

By 50isthenew30 |

My husband and I have been going to this Mi Cocina for over 12 years. The food is good and the service is too. Last Friday we had the pleasure of having Erica wait on us. She's delightful. Amusing, friendly and accommodating. We've been to most of the Mi Cocina's in town, but she made our dining experience fun. See you next Friday!

My favorite Dallas tex mex!

By Emily M |

Excellent salsa. Great food. I like the Luanne's special because it has a little if everything. They have a drink named the mambo taxi, which is delicious, but very strong.
