Ted-Mex comfort food

By _RT_TX_Travels |

A Dallas mainstay. Consistent food, friendly service and yummy margaritas. The brisket tacos and the tortilla soup are great. The Mambo Taxi is the best marg in town, and they will sneak up on you in a good way. :)

Avoid the crowd - go for lunch

By Karl M |

There is a reason this place is crowded for supper- good food and great atmosphere. We ate outside on the patio. Food was very good. service was excellent. I definitely would come here again.

Cover your ears. It's a sound explosion.

This is a neighborhood restaurant for us. Located in Highland Park Village, a candy land of expensive shops, Mi Cocina has been a stalwart for families and friends for decades. Lately the service has become slipshod to the point of stupidity. While waiting to be seated we stood at the sticky back bar to have drinks and watched a bar-back unload wet glasses, sticking his fingers in the glasses to do so; a bartender hit in the face with a shaker by an over-zealous co-worker mixing a top shelf margarita; and another bartender get splashed in his eye with vodka carelessly 'poured.' We were seated 'first available' and led upstairs. My husband was plowed by as two workers ran up the stairs. The upstairs was unreasonably cold. I ordered tacos al carbon made with ubber-fatty, untrimed and very rare fajita meat. I trimmed about a cup of fat off the meat. (I had ordered the steak medium rare.) There is no art to how the food is presented, drinks are filled, or how set-ups are placed on the table. This restaurant has hoppin' busboys and service is fast, but it doesn't have to be so sloppy. Where this restaurant has really gotten objectionable is in the sound levels. I down-loaded a decibel meter on my iPhone. It registered for the entire time we were there between 104 - 109. Tolerances at those levels beyond a couple of minutes can cause hearing loss. For the benefit of employees who work in that environment management should take better care before a smart one files a suit. The waiters are very good, the busboys timid and not very observant, the decor wonderful, the food decent for what it is, cleanliness questionable. Messy kids and very loud adults tolerated. Not a place for quiet dates. Very busy and popular place. They do not take reservations. If you are new to Dallas and want good food, good service, and be able to have a conversation spend your money at Meso Maya. My ears are still ringing...

Rehearsal dinner party

Excellent service, great atmosphere, and good food. We were in private room and it was very comfortable. Restrooms nearby. Servers were excellent. Always there with more drinks, etc. Margaritas with sangria really tasty. Mini tacos passed around before dinner were tasty. Great experience.

Great find--delicious food!!!!

By travelingCAgal |

While checking out a music venue next door (The Balcony Club) we decided to have dinner here as it looked like they had a nice outdoor patio. We were very impressed with the food--it was delicious! Unlike Mexican food served in CA which always comes with rice and beans, the Tex-Mex version always comes with a side of cooked vegetables which is quite healthy. We had the spinach enchiladas served with chili lime rice and sautéed vegetables. We loved the food and would definitely go back!

Excellent Patio Dining

By RonnyC2723 |

Mi Cocina is a favorite among the Lakewood crowd and can get crowded. The menu is extensive and excellent in preparation and taste. Servers are very friendly and efficient without being intrusive. The patio is huge and very relaxing. This is a very intimate restaurant, great for romantic dining or with family. It can become a favorite after the first visit. Plenty of sanitizing stations and spacing for social distancing.

Delicious brisket tacos

By Lewyville24 |

For a Tuesday lunch, the place was packed and required a 10 min wait for a table of six. Pre meal chips n salsa were very good. Salsa fresh and with a nice kick to it. Got the brisket tacos and they were very good. Everyone else at the table said they like their meals as well. Don't plan on a quick lunch, but it was very good.

Good for a large brand restaurant

By PopiOriginals |

When we go to Mi Cocina we generally go to the one on LaVista Drive in Dallas' Lakewood area. Very nice inside and a medium menu as far as selection is concerned. The dishes are authentic Tex-Mex but not Mexican really. Good Margaritas are served for a reasonable price.

Good food

By TheFunFoodie |

This Mi Cocina offers valet parking and also has ample public parking. They take reservations for any size party. It is a bit loud downstairs but we sat upstairs and it was perfect. The chips and guacamole were fresh. Our dinner came in a timely manner and was really good. I'd definitely eat there again.

Good, better than Matt's which used to be here

By BlinkingDog |

If you know Mi Cocina, you know what you're getting. This Lakewood location serves the same Mi Cocina food. If you like it, you'll like it here. It's an attempt at upscale Tex-Mex, which means you're going to pay more than at El Fenix. The food is better, but perhaps not enough to justify the price. For example, $15 for a 3 taco plate seems a bit expensive to me, but hey I'm into Mexican street tacos which shouldn't be more than $1.50 each. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy Mi Cocina, because I do. It's a good place to take out-of-towners, good place to take the kids, and a nice place to enjoy with friends if the weather is nice for the patio. Careful, don't have too many Mambo Taxis. I like the upstairs bar/eating area which is adults only. Nice to get away from the kids if you're on a date night. Overall, it's good, but there is a lot of Tex Mex in the area, so eat here but just don't make a habit of it.

Top 3 Tex Mex in DFW

By Jon |

Yes, this is a local chain restaurant. However, the food quality is outstanding and I would highly recommend it to anyone. We almost always start with the queso blanco and guacamole which are both very generous portions. To drink, I highly recommend the mambo taxi. It is a frozen blend of margarita and sangria. Mambo Taxi's are simply delicious, but make sure to drink them responsibly. (they can be strong) My wife and I generally order the chimichangas, but we've had a multitude of things on the menu. The service is very impressive for a tex mex place and the interior is clean and classy. This location also has an AWESOME patio, which was just renovated last summer. I would highly recommend Mi Cocina. Especially this locatoin.

A fresh take on Mexican food

By Cardhuneat |

This is not your average Tex-Amex food. They do a lighter and fresher approach to Mexican food. They are part of a chain in Dallas, and they are consistent with the experience. They offer some traditional Tex-Mex dishes, but throw in lighter options that are tasty too! I like their bean soup as a side dish. Very traditional tasting. They have a great patio, so during the awesome spring days it can be pretty packed!

Trash in guacamole is unacceptable

By Uncle-AL-and-Co |

I use to love going weekly to Mi Cocina but something is missing now. The prices are ridiculous when you consider the lack of care that is going into the food. On the last 3 occasions we have been served guacamole with peels and stem butts in the guacamole. We pointed out the trash only to hear about how fresh they make it. When paying $10.95 for a serving i really expect quality, in the preparation as well as the ingredients. I am noticing more and how as a consumer i am expected to pay more and tip big for less. I might as well stay home.

Lakewood location is disappointing

By Tornado-Allie1 |

The last few visits have taken this location off of our list of favorites. We'll drive to the Lake Highlands location from now on. Lakewood's food & service are mediocre at best. Salsa was so salty it was inedible; service was slow. Food comes from the kitchen lukewarm. Other locations are consistently better. Drive by this location to another for the quality & service you deserve.

Good food- nice patio

By Casellan |

Had a yummy meal out on the patio. Good for families. Good, solid high chairs available. The “Deluxe 57” comes with a ton of food. We ordered that and an order or chili con queso. It was more than enough food for two adults and a toddler. Our server was very friendly and quick with anything that we needed. I liked that the chips were on the thicker side (but not too thick.) The salsa has a kick to it- and was very tasty! We appreciated that it had some flavor and spice vs what you typically find at many restaurants. I’d recommend!

Lousy ceviche

By jpatter1 |

Ceviche is not hard to make. This included tough bits of shrimp and very little flavor otherwise. Definitely will not get that again. Mambo Taxis are of course very good. Patio is lovely. Enchiladas and fajitas are good. Service was excellent.

Great Food, but some service a bit slow

By CLH8712 |

Had the fish tacos, they were excellent. Very good salsa with chips to start, and excellent "Queso Blanco" as an appetizer. Ran out of chips before queso arrived and requested more, but took a long time to get them. Meanwhile the queso was cooling off. Otherwise the waiter (Shem) was friendly and attentive. Not his fault the chips were delayed.

Good Mexican Food

Its a nice restaurant, a bit crowd and loud. Very good extensive menu. The service is good, amazing drinks and good price.

LUNCH WITH MY CREW

I wanted to take my crew to lunch so i got on my trip advisor account and found this place. Thought it was really good and the lunch prices where where I had hoped they would be.

Our Group of 7 Really Enjoyed the Food and Experience

By Randy S |

My host wanted us to come here while we were in town. Nice experience; good salsa and chips, and I liked their cheese enchilada and beef taco. We all liked our meals, and that is good for a table of 7! And, our server was really good.

Great service

April was incredible! She was friendly, outgoing, and helpful! It was a busy Saturday night and we received personable service!

Great food and fast service

I grabbed lunch here on my way to DFW. The food was very good and service was good for how busy they were.

Great dining experience

By Camilla M |

This is a wonderful place to celebrate with friends & family ! The food is FANTASTIC and the staff is polite and professional! Mia served us with a smile and was great ! They have a large patio or inside dining! The manager answered all our questions! I recommend this Mi Cocina with a 5 star rating! 🎉🎊🎉

Lakewood MiCocina for the win!

By beawitcher |

The Lakewood location of MiCocina has been a wonderful addition to East Dallas. The restaurant is beautiful and on a nice afternoon, you can't beat the patio for catching up with friends over a frosty margarita. Eric Mong, the service manager, ensures that patrons are enjoying their meals, and Patricia and Geraldo upstairs in the bar area take such good care of their guests. The Ricardo salad with shrimp is delicious for a lighter meal option, while the brisket tacos are my favorite when I want something more substantial.

Not the best or the worst ??

By Shea D |

We come back because it is convenient and they have a salad I like. The garlic dressing is the BOMB. Hubs got the tacos al carbon and for over $20 it shouldn’t have that much fat. The service tonight was better than usual (Serbando). We will be back, begrudgingly....

Tasteless guacamole

By jpatter1 |

I'm missing the Lakewood Cantina Laredo. It had fresh guacamole, prepared tableside. Mi Cocina's looks good, but is nothing but mashed avocados. No salt. No jalepeno. No onion. Incredibly bland. But the service was good, and the food is usually good. Nice patio seating.

service was slow, food was good

By EJsgirl527 |

The queso blanco was not good. I'd recommend sticking with the salsa. Mambo taxi is delicious. The brisket tacos are delicious.

DANGER! Their chips are addictive!

By Papa Bri |

...and the salsa, too. Haven't been there is a while, but now twice in one week. The big change in this location (Mi Cocina is great everywhere) is that they have a large patio. Go early, get served before the crown comes in, and then head right next door to The Balcony Club for some good live R&R, Jazz and Blues.....then Uber home. Great fajitas, BTW.

Great patio

By Mark F |

We recently had lunch on the patio. This is a local Tex-Mex chain and the food was very good. We started with chips and excellent homemade guacamole. I had the brisket and it was very good. Wonderful ambience on the patio for a Saturday lunch! Recommended!

Food is excellet

By Lola M |

This is a classic Tex-mex restaurant (it is actually a chain) with a gorgeous patio...so if you are craving for this type of food this restaurant won't let you down. Chips and salsa are good and guac, excellent. The tacos with beef brisket were delicious...will definitely go back if I am in town. Our server was a bit overwhelmed but we forgot when the food arrived...

Not a good value

By hiphop2 |

We went here recently, meeting another couple for dinner. Each of the four of us had mixed reviews of the food, but two of us had the BBQ Brisket Enchiladas, and neither of us liked them. They were classified under Tex-Mex, but they were just not good, just overly BBQ and underwhelmingly non-Mex. The shrimp tacos were reported to be good by one in our party. Overall the food is somewhat expensive for Mexican food, and the drinks are quite expensive. We had one round of drinks, nothing exotic, just house marguerites and one Sangria ($10) which totaled $35. Personally, I think that Matt's is a better value and better food.

Great for families and large groups

By seaski42 |

Selected this restaurant for Father's Day brunch because it met our two requirements 1) family friendly because we had 4 children under the age of 4 with us and. 2) a gluten-free menu . It was a good choice. While the meals were pretty typical Tex-Mex, they were well prepared and the servings were generous. Our waiter was attentive and the meal was served pretty quickly considering that there were 11 of us. Probably the word that best sums up what you can expect at Mi Cocina is " reliable" in terms of food , service, and atmosphere.
