We went here with our family. We were disappointed because this place was highly recommended to us. The margaritas were ok but nothing special. I was hoping for a traditional margarita and this tasted like it was prepared with a mix. The food was plentiful and just ok. Not great flavor and a but dry. Staff was friendly. Do not think I would recommend or return.

I'm from Texas but have lived up north for eight years. Every time I go back to Austin, all I want to do is eat TexMex and Mexican food for days. This time, I went to Mi Madre's for the first time. The food was nothing short of fantastic. Everything from the chips, queso, guac, tacos, and fajitas were right on. The seasoning was perfect. The waitress was awesome, and on a busy Saturday night we got in right away and had plenty of room to chill out. I will now be making this my go-to place every time I'm in town.

Great service. Rustic ambiance. Good food. Good selection. Reasonable prices. Ample parking. Ate there two times on recent trips to Austin. Would return again.

We stopped in for lunch and a beer. Food was excellent. Has outdoor seating and a separate roof top bar (weather permitting). Don’t need to buy full meals. I had a soft taco , a hard taco and a beer.

We went there for breakfast and had the migas and breakfast tacos with potato, egg and cheese. The food was excellent. We sat down at one of the outdoor tables that right under a tree. The birds hovering to get your food were the only downside -- but the scare off pretty easily.

The food is, in my experience, always good. Service is fast and friendly, and there's never an empty glass. You regularly see the owner walking through the restaurant - he knows most of the regulars, it seems - and obviously is keeping the standards high.

This is great place for breakfast tacos. Huge and delicious. They serve typical Tex Mex at lunch and dinner which is pretty good as well. Good chips and hot sauce. Extra friendly service. An Austin institution. Did I mention the great breakfast tacos? Yummy.

The food was amazing, I had a brunch and it was excellent. The place has a nice atmosphere and is located in a hip area!

First time at this little gem and it was great. The staff was friendly, very attentive, and they really made our first visit the best. we searched them on Yelp and so glad we did. They have in door and outdoor seating and outdoor seating can be covered or not covered. The second indoor seating area is a lot quieter then the front area, but both are roomier. The food was very tasty we had Barbacora tacos and carne guisada with cheese tacos and carnitas tacos, all were very good and filling. If you want some heat for your tacos ask for the diablo sauce. we will be back when were back in town...Recommended.

I ordered the beef guisada lunch plate and a drink. I ended up paying approximately $17 for lunch. The plate they use is huge. But the meat portion of the meal is skimpy. They cover most of the plate with salad, beans and a little rice. I left hungry. I didn't like the salad because it wasn't fresh at all. Wilted where the lettuce looked translucent. The beans were bland and very cold. The rice was okay, just not much and the beef tips were even a smaller portion. Not worth $17 with a drink. Go elsewhere.

We had our typical Austin breakfast in Mi Madre’s, it was excellent! We really enjoyed it! The tortillas, tacos and burritos are amazing, the staff is super friendly, coffee is good, the ambience is nice. I think this place is a must when in Austin!

Went for breakfast, and while the food was plentiful, much of it was kinda dry and not exceptionally tasty. The photo representing what you get does not resemble what I got on my plate. Maybe it was an off morning?

Seating abit confusing but great waiter, food and beer. Chips were awesome and salsa hot like we like it.

Our son suggested Mi Madre's for a quick brunch and we weren't disappointed. Service was great, waiting time for a table short and the tacos were delicious! Very good chips and queso, too.

We stopped by here our last day in Austin for breakfast tacos and it was by far my favorite restaurant in Austin during our visit. The chips and salsa were great, as well as the food. We had iced coffee with our meal, which was also on point! I believe Ben was the name of our waiter and did an awesome job! I highly suggest this restaurant.

Wow they where great! Large and crispy chunks of gender well prepared yummy morsels. I can't think of a Mexican restaurant where I did not try to Carnitas and this without a doubt was in that top tier presentation in preparation. Also, I ordered the crispy hamburger taco which I normally do not see a hamburger taco on a menu. Had to try so glad I did serious spicy flavors that just kept echoing in your mouth. Ingredients are fresh and tasty it would not hesitate to order this taco again either. Check it out if you can and I don't believe you would be disappointed. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful with any questions plus there was live authentic music. Not a mariachi band. Remember band and as crazy as it sounds the woman was playing on a pair of cow job bone and with still the teeth in place. Yes that's what I said, a job bone. Terrific experience and I if I lived here I would make this one of my regular taco joints.

I have gone to this place many times, but it has been a while since the last time I sat and ate here. This past weekend my family went and were surprised to see they are now serving Ruta maya coffee. Prior to this visit we would skip the coffee and get it across the street because it was that bad. Their Migas tacos are very yummy and their bean and cheese is oh-so-good. I have had a bad meal, i use to have bad coffee, but now I can get a completely perfect meal at a very cheap price.

We went to Mi Madres and had the best Carne Guisada tacos EVER! Everything they serve there is a pretty good portion and the service is very good. I certainly suggest Mi Madres!

Mi Madre's offers an amazing selection of tacos. We had a late breakfast there, and I had both a breakfast taco and a lunch taco. They were large and delicious, and I could barely finish them both. The tortilla chips were fresh, and the salsa was perfect. We sat in a cute outside courtyard. I would definitely go back, again and again.

Breakfast is my favorite time at Mi Madres. The New Mexico is always a great choice as are the Migas, and the tacos, (I get the chorizo), the sauce, the chips, and the atmorphere are all 5 star. It's Austin, stay away from chain restaurants, head to Mi Madres, the locals do!

The food was great, but 2 hours at a restaurant from the time we were seated until we were able to pay our bill is ridiculous. Especially with toddlers at the table. I am hoping this was unusual for their service, but I was not pleased. Not once was my drink refilled, it took forever for anyone to even bring us a menu and everything was slow.

Needed some fuel before a ride out to Bastrop, Mi Madres the last stop before a straight run out on MLK. Grabbed the Ranchero, hot coffee, absolute winning formulae.

First - I LOVE TEX-MEX! My husband kept urging me to go to Mi Madre's so the other day while I was out with a friend, we headed in at around 11:30. SOOOOOO DISAPPOINTED! It was seat yourself - the young man brought chips - and mediocre salsa. We waited...and waited...no waiter! Finally got up to find him. He apologized and said he did not see us sit down (ummm...there were other people in our section). Unfortunately, this level of service continued. Got up to get more water - got up to get more salsa. AND - the menu is limited. This is probably a good place for breakfast as there are a variety of breakfast tacos and burritos - migas. but lunch was just a few items. oh...they DO NOT make any of their own tortillas - well, heck - in a good Tex-Mex place - after salsa, tortillas are a clue to authenticity of the food - will not go back! There are so many better places in Austin for Tex-Mex!

Especially delicious chips and salsa. I enjoyed the spinach salad adding grilled chicken on top. My spouse had a huge burrito. Great service, funky atmosphere.

3rd time here. Menu has upgraded since last visit and it's Great. Thai and Spicy watermelon margaritas are excellent. Mole wings, ceviche, and al pastor fries! They also have a Chamoy-mango frozen margarita that was fantastic! Enjoyed the goat plate. Service Was excellent. Will Definitely come back.

I came here for the sole purpose of getting a breakfast taco. I was sitting at my table for quite a while before a waiter approached me to take my order. He advised me that 2 tacos were enough (he was right). I got a bacon, egg, cheese, and potato taco (THE BEST), and another lighter one with just lettuce, avocado, and tomato (good, but I wish I got another breakfast one). I got a limonata, which was also delicious. Overall, food is amazing. Service, however, could be improved upon. Waiters and waitresses kept switching, and one tried to take my plate away while I literally had a taco in my hand and I was still chewing. When I finally was finished, service was nowhere to be found. The overall casual atmosphere of this place is great, and I sat outside.

We went for breakfast one morning. I was hoping for chorizo or Huevos Rancheros but they were not available. Service was great. Mi Madre was quick to catch and kill the large cockroach, which was humorous to us but off-putting to most.

This isn't about "A" visit. It IS about 15 years of visiting One of Austins "Best Kept secrets" hidden on East Manor Road about 5 short blocks from I-h 35. I eat there almost every morning. I do , and have tried others. But, well, You'll just have to try it for yourself. Years have gone into the perfection in every dish at Mi Madre's. From the Breakfast Tacos, that start serving promptly at 6:00am every morning and Sundays when they open at 8:00am., to the vast , and changing variety, of Mexican and South American dishes that are ....well......You'll see. Variaty, different, and delicious. That simple! Chose from "Chimichangs", Adobado Pork, Carne Guisada, Mole or verde Chicken enchiladas and more as "the usual" fare and many others. Too the dailey specials of which there are usually 6-8 of them. Bevareges, Juices, Coffees, nothing plain there either. Even their fresh squeezed lemonaide is one of the best I've tasted. Unusual coffee Beverages from south of the border. A very warm , welcoming, staff. Service....no waiting, you are attended to immediatly even when they are busy which is all the time.....that tell you anything? They do catering and groups as well as Huge orders of breakfast tacos that I see go out in the hundreds per order. Some how they never miss a beat. You can view their menus on the internet. Directions and Phone numbers are there as well. Oh! and one other thing. They just opended another eatery called "Zandunga Mexican Bistro" at 1000 E. 11th Street . The Owners of the two establishments are the Torres Family, Aeurelio, Rosa, Edgar (Executive chef at "Zandunga") and Veronica. A great Bunch of folks, Truely

Got to lunch Thursday with my son. He picked Mi Madre's on Manor Road as he knows I love chicken enchiladas. We enjoyed the weather out on the covered patio area between the main converted house and the back building with the restrooms and overflow/party room. This is my kind of place for chicken enchiladas! We started out with what seemed like a gallon of iced tea. Our crunchy chips were nicely warm and our salsa was a thick red sauce with a nice amount of heat. The Mi Madre enchilada plate can be chicken, beef, bean or cheese with red or green chile sauce with their beans and rice. So I ordered the chicken enchiladas with green chile sauce. Maybe I was just really hungry, but I enjoyed the enchiladas with their green sauce more than any I have had in Austin. The standard to rise to for me always is the green chile chicken enchiladas standard set in New Mexico with delicious chicken and green chiles from Hatch, NM. The green chile chicken enchiladas at Mi Madre's are in the ballpark with them because the chicken is shredded, moist, has hints of garlic and onion without being a garlic or onion bomb. The green chile sauce is authentic, the tortillas were moist enough, while the rice was nicely separated with a slight crunch and the refried beans were laced with smokey red chile, all garnished with some lettuce and diced tomatoes. Next time I would order more of the green chile sauce on the side and maybe an egg over easy on top, too, for my taste. Others might prefer a heavier dose of melted cheese though I thought mine was perfect. Regardless, this was the real deal green chile chicken enchiladas. It is very good food and very affordable! My son said he likes their weekend breakfast menu options, too. Su Madre es Mi Madre!

We were driving around looking for a Mexican restaurant in Austin so I went to Trip Advisor and found mi Madre's. We had great service, great Mexican food, and loved the atmosphere. They had a little Mexican band playing and we had an overall good experience. Plus I had a pear margirita. Yummy! Not a fancy place; however, we really enjoyed our visit.

Okay, so the food was pretty good but the tortilla chips were fresh, hot and straight from the fryer. Unbelievably delicious! I was stuffed from the chips and salsa long before the huge breakfast egg, potato, cheese and bacon taco ever arrived. The taco was great too, but the chips.... oh my!!! Quaint litte local spot - I loved the local decor and the staff was really friendly.

I have been here a few times when visiting Austin. The food has been delicious. The service is outstanding. I e usually order on of the featured cocktails. I have never been disappointed.

We went here because we liked the name of the restaurant. Looking for some breakfast tacos, how could you go wrong with a name like Mi Madre's!! The food was good. We ordered a variety of tacos and the chips and queso to share. Nothing amazing on the tacos, but good simple food at a decent price. Perfect for what we wanted. The standout is the chips and queso!!! I would come back for the chips by themselves. They are probably the best chips I have ever had, bar none!! They were light and crispy, with just a hint of salt. Perfect to eat by themselves or with the queso that all the reviewers rave about! Seriously, I would recommend just going here for the chips! Service was very good. Go and enjoy some simple, well prepared, food.

I came specifically for the breakfast tacos as they were recommended by locals. Good and hearty, just like mom would make. This is not high end gastro pub food, this is how your grandma makes breakfast. I had the sausage, egg and potato and the bacon, egg and potato- two were enough since I was looking for a quick breakfast- but they also had larger plates like huevos rancheros which I would try on another visit when I needed more of a brunch. There are signs that say kids eat free on Tuesday.

The breakfast machacado con huevo was delicious. The salsa was spicy and tasty. Our friends liked the migas. The beans had too much chili. I did not care for them nor did our friends.

Mi Madre's was right by our AirBNB, so we went for dinner our first night in Austin, breakfast our second day, and dinner our third time. The breakfast tacos were probably my favorite, in particular the chorizo. For my first foray into the Austin taco scene this was a good chance to get my feet wet. The drinks were good - I got a tamarind mule at dinner both nights, highly recommend - and their coffee in the morning set us off right. Service was friendly and quick. My only gripe was some of their tacos seemed super greasy, and I found myself have to wipe a lot of fat off my hands at dinner. If you go, go for breakfast, get some chorizo tacos and coffee, and enjoy your day.

Came here to try the breakfast tacos and check out the Austin Tex-Mex scene. The breakfast tacos were good, but the tortillas were underwhelming and not my favorite. The chips were delicious and tasted homemade. Service was fairly good, atmosphere outside was cool and inside was decent. Overall, good food, but you can find better tacos in Austin.

We stopped by here after reading a good review online and were disappointed. my $$$$ rating = expensive for what you get. The one good thing was the service. very attentive and helpful. My wife got three taco's: Carnitas, Adobado, and Barbacoa. She didn't like any of them. said they all lacked flavor. $4 - $4.50 each. I got the La Loca, and it wasn't very good either. The seasoning on the meat was good, but the meat itself was very chewy. $11 they did offer us free chips and salsa, but we didn't eat any, since we aren't eating carbs right now.

Awesome breakfast tacos. Picked up a dozen for the office. Everyone loved them! They open early and have a small takeout room so you can wait for your order. Salsa is good too!

The restaurant has the regular range of Mexican-styles breakfast foods, migas, breakfast tacos, etc., but what really got me were the breakfast fajitas, called La Loca. Scrambled eggs, your choice of chicken or beef, and the normal fajita ingredients. It was DELICIOUS! I am doing low-carb and that can be difficult with Mexican food. I just did not eat the tortillas and had no carbs in the meal. The salsa was amazing, also. Full of flavor with just the right amount of kick. There is a pooch-friendly patio so you can bring your dog to dinner. Do yourself a favor and find the restaurant. You will leave full and happy.

Although I've only had breakfast tacos for take-out, they are the best in Austin! Big variety! You will not be disappointed with anything you order. The prices are a bit higher than your regular taco stand but this is NOT your regular taco stand....it's Mi Madre's! I've been coming here for 18+ years and have always been happy with the quality and quantity of food! The Torres family is a sweet bunch and very accommodating! Call ahead for easy pick up as the morning wait may be out the door!

We had carne guisada and it was excellent. This being our first visit we depended on our server to guide us. We were concerned about the size of the entrée. Our server recommended that we share the entrée and simply order a couple of extra tortillas. Great service!

$2.50 for chips and salsa? In Austin? Never again.

Very good authentic Mexican food. The queso dip, tacos, and chicken burrito were very good. Worth stopping if you are craving real Mexican food.

A great selection of breakfast tacos or burritos. My favorite is the bacon, potato taco. My least favorite was the sausage.

We want.ed Mexican food, and this place seemed to be nearby when in Austin, they have all sorts of tacos and Mexican food. It’s definitely not fancy, but the tacos we chose we good, hot, and freshly made. There are full meals there as well. It’s a bit pricier than your run of the mill chain taco spot, but definitely worth the bit more.

Hands down the best beans..a touch of spice and smoky bacon...perfect with the chile rellenos! The chicken quesadilla was huge (they use the burrito tortilla), slightly crispy and served with rice & avocado. Chips were freshly made and really good spicy salsa. We sat on the outside patio which was really nice on the cool day. The waitstaff was very attentive and efficient. Will definitely be back, next time taco #3

I came here with my fiancé while in Austin visiting to look at work and school prospectives. We were greeted and served by gracious, attentive staff...our food was quick, authentic, delicious and hot (temperature). My fiancé got a margarita but altered to his liking of spice. The restaurant is clean, colourful and they offer an amazing experience on a great budget. Drinks, app, meals, and tax was $40 and we got a lot. Will definitely come back when we move here.

A fantastic local spot with a wide variety of Tex-Mex offerings in a charming, quaint, neighborhood space. Delicious margaritas, friendly service (although often slower than I’d like), and a great patio area with lots of plants and just the right amount of grunge. For apps, the queso has my vote. For entrees, the enchiladas are difficult to pass up. Lots of different sauce options and dish variations to choose from. Although it’s not necessarily cheap, the price point is reasonable and the quality holds up to criticism. A lovely place to take friends on a nice day out. Stop in and you won’t regret it. 4/5

Went there for the awesome margaritas. Food was also good. Chile relleno was tasty and not fried. Everyone enjoyed whatever they got!

Went to this restaurant located on Cherrywood´s Manor Road after a big birthday celebration for a friends 40th. This place was the perfect hangover cure, loved the Tex Mex flavors. Amazing Enchiladas.

Went here during a business trip for breakfast on the recommendation of a friend. Had 2 breakfast tacos, the 0 and the 1. Both were great. Loved the salsa too. I would definitely go back if I were in the area.

People come for the food, I come for the queso. My only complaint is that it doesn't come in bathtub size. Food is good. Atmosphere is nice. Okay for kids too.

The best thing here is the Guisada. So tender, with agreat sauce and then they take it up a notch and throw cheese on it. I eat it for every meal, breakfast included. Get it to go. Service and wait times to dine in are spoty.

100% authentic, best drinks, the food is to die for, Kassandra was our server A1A service, there were 6 of us, got to tried many plates, all were soooooo delicious, wish fir an additional stomach

Mi Madre's is not your typical Tex Mex restaurant. The menu is rather limited for Mexican food, but it is well worth the trip. It is only minutes from Saint David's Medical Center. I had the Fajita Rito. It was a burritos with french fries in it, and it was very good. The margaritas and service was excellent as well. A small restaurant but worth a stop if you are in the area.

I had 35 min to meet my Mexican food yearning and be at my next appoIntment. Granted, it was an off HR, midweek, but the planets were in alignment to grant all my wishes. The very friendly host seated me outside on a gorgeous day. He was informed him that I was in a bit of a hurry and I requested my bill with my food. Whatever the daily special was, that's what I wanted despite not knowing what would be delivered. Their tortilla chips are so light and crispy. I had to ask the host/waiter to take them away after I crunched down several of them way too fast. The special was what I call a Wet Burrito, chicken. Fantastic. I hadn't had anything like it in decades. Melted cheese and salsa Fresca all over it. The bill also arrived, actually before the meal)). 2/3 of the huge burrito had to be left behind as I drove off on schedule. I came back a few days later with my husband for another perfect meal.

We were originally looking for the place next door but it is on the corner of a busy intersection so we tried Mi Madres instead and were very happy and very full! We both had the Ranchero and shared an avocado salad. The breakfast plate is quite large with chunks of tender beef on the spicy side. We had flour tortillas. The avocado salad was wonderful with scoop after scoop of delicious ripe avocado. (One of my favourite foods) It is a lot larger than it looks from the outside. There are numerous rooms and outside sitting for when it is warm enough. Great place!

This is within walking distance from my son's apartment and is very good. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

We were told that breakfast tacos were one of the "must have" meals while we were visiting Austin. I'm so glad we found our way out to Mi Madre's. The horchata was different than I expected (I think it was made with coconut milk) but the tacos were outstanding. The chips and salsa were great-- the salsa was fairly spicy, not like the watered down version lots of places serve. I put the salsa on everything else I ordered. Just 2 tacos were filling enough and the variety on the menu was great. I highly recommend the one with machaca and eggs. Delicious! I can see why breakfast tacos are so popular-- especially when they are this tasty!

It's nice to know the tacos you love will never change. I discovered my favorite #0 with beans taco 14 years ago and it tastes the same today as it did then, just as the salsa does. The owners are great and if there is ever any issue with service (while some staff and family have been there since the beginning, others change over), just let them know and they take care of it.

We met our daughter after work and had a wonderful meal in a casual atmosphere. In addition to spicy salsa and chips, we had guacamole as an appetizer. For dinner, we had fish tacos and chicken quesadilla. All were served fresh, hot and mildly spicy. Portions are large, so may consider splitting on our next visit. Service was very attentive. Diverse crowd led me to believe this is frequented by neighborhood residents. Easy to park on on site.

we sat out on the patio on a cool fall day - OMG - it felt like we had died and gone to heaven! the waitstaff was great - the music playing was great - simon and garfunkel was one that comes to mind - totally chill place with THE MOST AMAZING FOOD! starting with the $2 mimosa's to the fabulous chips and salsa to the beyond delicious tacos - i can't wait to go back - i'm definitely going to plan one meal at day at Mi Madre's while in Austin - EVERY time! i can't say enough good things about this place! GO - you won't regret it. it's nothing fancy mind you - but it's Austin - take a chill pill!!

I ordered the Ranchero and it was DELICIOUS. The meat was very tender and the eggs were cooked perfectly. I tried the Horchata and loved it. This place was amazing. Although the restaurant is tiny and my friends and I had to squeeze around a small table, it was totally worth it.

Has the refried beans and cheese taco and the chorizo egg and potato. Both were super yummy. They brought out nachos to start though and I asked for a side of guacamole as it came with salsa and it was too hot. The guacamole came and was huge!! Super tasty too. However when we got our bill we realised this side cost more than both my breakfast tacos together! So just be wary. But absolutely loved it regardless.

If you are looking for fancy, then this place is not for you. If you are looking for good food with plain, nice service and in a down home location, this is the place for you. I had the pork carnitas, avocado, and cilantro tacos. My brother-in-law had the breakfast tacos, and my niece had the breakfast burrito. All were delicious AND filling. Two tacos were plenty at only $6! No refills on drinks, but they do have a variety of drinks from which to choose. Really good value, fun place....you can even practice a little Spanish with one of the servers.

I just moved to Austin, TX two months ago, and I live three minutes away from this red house of deliciousness. Just do yourself a favor and go. Mi Madres -- where the queso and mimosas fuel the American dream.

The perfect breakfast taco, period.

Yum, yum, yum! My tostada salad may have been the best I have ever had. Served with warm queso and ranch-it looks like any other salad, but the flavor was wonderful! Really good, brewed ice tea too.

We went to Mi Madre's for brunch and had a great experience. Home-style Mexican breakfast plates that reminded me of my dad. Everything on the plate was perfectly prepared and there was lots of it. Service was impeccable and prices are very reasonable. Cant wait to go back and try the margaritas.

pay for salsa i don't think so

Had a veggie burrito here, first time for that one but it was VERY GOOD. Chips and salsa were amazing too. Would def go back.

Mi Madre's has some top quality neighboring restaurants, and this somewhat hidden gem is great. I have had breakfast tacos here once, but unlike most of the reviews, this is about dinner. My wife and I entertained a visiting relative from the mid-west, and we were determined not to take him to one of the standard Tex-Mex places. Our thoughts turned to Mi Madre's because it was well located (near downtown and UT campus) to his hotel. We started with BBQ chicken taquitos, which were nothing special, but made a nice appetizer to share. As usual, I ordered the chile relleno, which is almost always my first meal at a new Mexican restaurant. I was not disappointed. Mi Madre's does not bread and deep fry the pepper, but rather roasts the pepper. This is distinctly different than most other restaurants, and the taste was great. On my next trip, however, I will probably order the chicken filling, as the beef filling was very, very spicy - to the point that I had to separate the pepper in order to enjoy its flavor. My wife had a dinner taco, which was a good size, and nicely prepared. It, along with the appetizer and some bites from my plate, made a full meal for my wife. Our relative had the carne guisada, which was a very large portion. He enjoyed the meal - enough that he didn't share! Definitely will take others there.

Good small town texmex

I am an out of towner who comes to Austin maybe twice a year. This is my favorite spot for breakfast/brunch. Mi Madre's has some of the best chips I have ever eaten. Hot, melt in your mouth chips and salsa comes out with your coffee/OJ. Gotta try the queso, too. They have various breakfast tacos, migas, burritos, etc. I will always eat there when in ATX.

We visited Mi Madre after reading good reviews about the breakfast tacos. While the salsa was very tasty and the atmosphere was cheery, our main entrees were disappointing. I ordered the potato and egg and sausage, potato, egg, and cheese tacos and didn't really care for either of them. The potatoes were bland and mushy. I'm not sure what spices were used for the sausage, but it wasn't very pleasant. Similarly, my boyfriend had the migas and didn't care for them or the beans served alongside the migas. We are from the Rio Grande Valley (he grew up there and I lived there for 5 years) so it may just be that our tastebuds are acclimated to a different style or flavor of mexican/tex-mex. Either way, Mi Madre's just didn't do it for us.

Mi Madre's is a little patio/indoor spot that stays busy for good reason. Good, solid Mexican food, very good prices, good margaritas, excellent wait staff.... and all tucked away on Manor Road 1 mile east of DKR Football Stadium.

We were in Austin and wanted to experience authentic local food and found this on trip advisor. It was a good find. The veggie rito and breakfast taco was excellent.

We were searching for some great authentic Mexican food, and we found it at this place! Portions are huge, and amazing value for money- I had beef stew which was perfectly flavoured and my other half had a massive burrito which he very much enjoyed. The staff were incredibly friendly and hospitable, and there was even a Mexican band playing music as you ate, which all contributed thoroughly to the experience. The margaritas are absolutely delicious, I could have drank way too many! The whole meal was a wholly pleasant experience, and I would come here with friends, family and on a date night.

Most of the food was ok the beef fajita was poor bad flavor I recommend avoiding it. The Saltillo dip was great good flavor and a good portion. Their cheese and beef enchiladas were also tasty. Price is moderate.

We stopped by here after our visit of the state capitol. Service was friendly and fast, enchilladas were delicious, prices very decent. We enjoyed sitting outside "in the garden"

Arrived shortly before they were closing for lunch and they served us anyway (thanks). Each ordered two tacos (not your typical selection of tacos but the four we tried were awesome). Meat was tender. Ingredients were fresh. Chips and salsa were good. Service was excellent. Taco eating was a full-contact sport and I like to think I won, but required multiple napkins and trip to wash hands (and face) after. Man, they were good. Each taco about $3. Husband read about restaurant in GQ magazine recently. Good tip!

This out of the way restaurant would be relatively easy to miss if you did not know the area or where you were going. That would be a shame, however, as this was quite a nice restaurant. The staff was extremely patient with us when we waited an hour for the rest of our party who got delayed. The food prices were average for good, authentic Mexican food and the quality was pretty good as well. We enjoyed our food and the vibe. They have a night club or something like that in the evenings, I believe, so that may also make for an interesting experience.

Found this place on the way to LBJ Library. Great food, drinks and service. Fresh nacho chips are worth the trip.

We went to Mi Madre's for Sunday breakfast. Staff was friendly, the food was good. We ordered the migas, burrito and the Loca plates. We had plenty of coffee refills, chips and salsa were good. Parking is limited, but you can park nearby in the neighborhood. Good friendly place with outside and inside eating.

We went to Mi Madre's on a week long road trip though Texas and it was the best breakfast that we had! The prices are great and the food is authentic, creative and so delicious. I ordered 3 different breakfast tacos and each one was better than the one before. I'm still dreaming of the fresh tortillas. Our waitress so very sweet and friendly as well!

I’m vegan and was hungry for enchiladas, which the server and staff accommodated. A small misfire with the first offering covered with cheese. Second try was much better, sans cheese, and quite filling. Chips and salsa seemed homemade. Son asked for extra rice instead of beans and it looked like one serving. Asked the server and she said that was it. Margarita was good and I had a local IPA. Would definitely return.

The chorizo breakfast tacos at Mi Madre's are a perfect combo of eggs, meat and cheese, all wrapped in a homemade tortilla. Fantastic.

They have the best breakfast tacos in Austin! And they're cheap. Their lunch menu isn't too bad, but I prefer a nearby neighborhood restaurant.

The service was very good. The atmosphere and cleanliness was great. However, nothing special about the food. I tried a Fajita Rota, with beef, french fries, lettuce and a couple other things; the ingredients seemed good but the combination was not that great. The cinnamon/chocolate/coffee was good.

Get the Tacos, any taco. They have about 14 different offerings. all good. Breakfast is great if you like freshly made, hot and perfect breakfast tacos. Lunch and dinner is always good too, lots of stuff to try

Solid cheesy Tex Mex. Enchiladas are just what you'd expect. Mole is great if you like it on the sweet side, and they keep your coke real full.

Was looking for a local Mexican restaurant who could be a regular Friday night feature - Mi Madre's took the spot quickly and without a struggle. Had some exceptional fish taco's, beans and rice, and a beer with chips and salsa. Exceptional.

Two friends and I decided to try 3 different breakfast taco spots on the east side for breakfast one morning and compare! Mi Madre was recommended to us by a local. Tacos were fresh and ambiance was great. We would highly recommend Mi Madre if you are looking for a great place to sit down, hang out and have a delicious breakfast taco.

I only ordered the chips. They were very fresh, hot and a smidget of salt ...oh so good. In-expensive order. My co-worker was not pleased with the beef fajita tacos ..she felt they were like pot roast with chipotle sauce added over them (braised) Would be great for the Carne Guisada. Not her expectation of fajitas. Service was good for take out and and packed up well.

Located on Manor on east side. We try to go to Mi Madres whenever we are in Austin. Great food and service! Great breakfast tacos! Highly recommend!

I have lived in Austin for 15 years and I cannot find any place comparable to Mi Madre's as far as breakfast tacos go. I could live off the #0 (potato, egg, bacon, and cheese), and the #10 (bean and cheese) is incredible also. I don't know why I even bother trying other places!

Quaint restaurant that served a great lunch. Serves breakfast items until 3pm. Lots of seating options, inside, outside covered and outside uncovered. Food was good as was the service. Appears to be a place frequented most by groups of people. Give it a shot. We randomly picked it off a cell phone search ... would go there again.

Stepped foot on Texas soil for the first time and couldn’t wait to try authentic Tex-Mex, something the locals would rave about. After reading the reviews of this local spot on Yelp, we headed over and got lucky to find a parking spot at dinner time on a Wednesday. After entering and seeing a dining room half-full/empty, we had to wait ten minutes for a hostess to seat us, though a server and bartender were well aware of our presence. After finally being seated at one of the many empty tables, the speed of service really picked up. Now we could sit back and enjoy what we had come for - authentic Tex-Mex. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be. The best part of the meal was the basket of chips, probably one of the best chips I’ve ever been served. But the salsa it was served with was bland, canned, and utterly lacking in any heat. I ate the chips plain, as the salsa diminished their flavor. Next up was the pork taco with avocado. The tortilla was fresh, probably hand-made. The pork was overly oily, to the point that I couldn’t taste much of the pork or seasoning as the oil had nearly blocked my taste receptors. I ate only one of the two in the serving. The side of refried beans and rice were surprisingly bland as well. My dining partner had ordered a chicken burrito, which was not oily, but again, fairly bland. I wish I had another adjective at my disposal, but this one simply suits the flavor profile of the meal. (no, I did not have a cold) One more note - the atmosphere was lighthearted and casual, a few buoyant patrons, but not the intoxicated variety. However, the acoustics are dreadful, nothing to absorb the noise bouncing off a hard floor, ceiling and walls other than warm bodies.

My husband introduced me to this wonderful restaurant when we first started dating. He had been coming here for years for their breakfast tacos and now I am just as obsessed with them as he is! The queso and tortilla soup are wonderful as well.

Try to grab a table outdoors and enjoy a couple of breakfast tacos! They're all really good, especially the chorizo ones but that's just me since I'll eat anything with chorizo in it. They were about $3 each and the coffee was pretty good as well.

The restaurant was casual and very nice. We were seated right away and waited on very promptly. The chips and salsa are so very good, fresh and tasty. We ordered a side of guacamole which was very extraordinary. For our main meal we ordered the fajitas and the carne guisada... Both were very excellent and full of flavor. The margarita on the rock was very good too. I highly recommend it and I will definitely go back on my next trip to Austin.

I got a chile relleno and mole enchilada ala carte. The chile was really good though I got vegetarian and the chili was filled with zucchini. I was not a big fan of all the zucchini...a bit overwhelming and watery. The enchilada had chicken. I had not had mole sauce in a long time. I wanted to try again because I had not really like it in the past but really wanted an enchilada. Turned out I really liked it! Overall a good experience. I'd give them a try again if in town.

Our waitress was super helpful! The drinks were good, and our dinners hit the spot. Chips were crispy and fresh, and they kept bringing more. We especially loved the carne guisada and the delicious sopapillas. Check it out! Well worth the trip.

Mi Madre's has the most excellent breakfast tacos. Ever. They're pricier than other places, but the tacos are bigger and more delicious. Lots of fillings to choose from. Migas are excellent. Try one with beans. So flavorful and delightfullly messy. Oh yes -- it's a family owned and run business and they always greet you with a smile.

For me my impression was this was an upscale version on Mexican food with the price to match. The decor was nice with 3 D Loteria images on the wall. I tried the beef and chicken tacos and found them to be OK at best, but not worth a second visit.

This place is easy to find. There are separate doors for take out and dining room orders and there is a very nice open porch and patio. The whole place just has a very natural relaxed vibe without any pretentious hipster feel. We did not order a full meal even so the service was excellent. My boyfriend was on a search for Cellis beer and the waiter was helpful and friendly. The chips were served piping hot and they were just the best. The salsa was average. We ordered a Mexican street corn appetizer and really loved it. I really liked this place and I know we will go back. Its just dressed down affordable good food in a nice atmosphere.

Hands down the best queso I've ever had. Everytime I come to Austin, I try to make a stop here to have a couple breakfast tacos (one just isn't enough), and coffee. The ground beef and cheese tacos are my favorite (although the beef has some spice to it to keep me honest), and the bacon & egg tacos. Great find in Austin, and in my opinion, beats out most in terms of tacos and the queso. DO NOT FORGET THE QUESO! #nomnomnom

My first time in Austin and someone recommended this place, what a fun place. You can eat inside or outside, we choose outside. Our waitress was great, right on the ball. We asked for suggestions and she was happy to help us. I had the amigos breakfast and my sister had The rancheros. Everything was great including the tortilla chips and salsa served with our coffees. Good start to my Texas trip.

Looked the place up and it definitely was fantastic. The drinks were terrific. Tacos great! Staff so friendly and helpful to find lunch or dinner places. It was one of two places we went to twice in Austin during a 3 day trip.
Some of the best breakfast tacos in Austin
The title says it all, really. Mi Madre's offers some of the absolute best breakfast tacos in Austin, at either no wait or a tiny fraction of the wait of some of the other, more well-known establishments on the other side of IH-35. The food is excellent, the tacos are large (I've yet to make it through three tacos), and the price is cheap. Highly recommended.
