Go for the singing waiters, not the food

By Elizabeth B |

Went for dinner Saturday night 9/1/18. Ordered calamari, lasagna, fettuccini carbonara. All of the food was just so-so, nothing remarkable. Décor is very old-school all the way down to the vinyl tablecloths and liberal use of empty chianti bottles. Enjoyed the singing waiters - very talented people - but song selections will appeal more to the over 60 crowd.

Ok alternative to craziness of Citywalk

Food was bland but filling. Waiters were fun to watch and provided good service. Lots of people celebrating birthdays, anniversaries etc gave the place a festive atmosphere.

My new favorite Italian restaurant

By SNAFU23 |

I ate dinner at Miceli's with my family in August 2015, and we absolutely loved the meal and the experience. I have lived in the Los Angeles area most of my life, and I can't believe I have not enjoyed this restaurant sooner. The restaurant is located very close to Universal Studios. The decor is old style Italian, it has a lot of character and flavor. You'll love the ambiance. This is not a chain restaurant, this place has personality. The uniqueness of this restaurant is that all of the waitstaff or signers/entertainers. In the center of the restaurant they have a piano player and drummer, the waitstaff all take turns signing songs. I was amazed by how good the waitstaff could all sing. They kept the place really having fun and very lively, so much fun. The food was excellent. The portions very large. The price is fair based on the quality, taste and portion size. The portions were so big, we ended up taking half the food home. The service was awesome, super friendly and fun. This is a great place to take family, visiting friends, to have a party, or to just celebrate a special occasion. I'm looking forward to my next visit to Miceli's, and I would recommend this restaurant to all my family and friends.

Wonderful Restaurant!!

By ambera956 |

My partner and I recently visited Hollywood and found this great little gem! The service was fast and attentive, the food was quick but extremely delicious! The restaurant was beautiful, the decor very traditional and unique, and it felt cozy even though it was very busy. I will definitely be visiting here again! I highly recommend you visit!

Great find!

By SarahW2608 |

Me and my husband saw the neon sign for this whilst walking on Hollywood Boulevard. We both love Italian so we thought we would try it. I loved the decor. I loved the style of the place too. It's old and classic. Man on the piano, singing. The food was great, I had lasagne, my husband had pizza. It was quite cheap too. If I had more time in LA I would certainly go back.

Traditional Italian

By Steven A |

Miceli's is a fixture in Los Angeles, Great traditional Italian, a Caesar salad with so much garlic that your on a date you need to both share it or have a breath mint. The only minus I have had was their pizza is salty, I however have had great pasta, lasagna and chicken dishes. Great for family, friends, a date. Enjoy the singing waiters and waitresses and an occasional patron who will entertain you in song. Parking avalible

Fun and entertaining

By bangalicious |

This is a funny, silly dinner. The singing waiters are surprisingly talented and provide competent service in a perfectly over the top setting. There were quite a few birthdays the night we went and the staff managed to sing different songs for each table! Recommend you keep it simple and order a pizza and a beer.

Great Italian Restaurant with Atmosphere.

By Columbia_Ted |

Great Italian Restaurant with Atmosphere. We were at Universal Studios, which was fabulous itself (separate review) and wanted a decent restaurant nearby. This is a quaint family owned Italian restaurant with plenty of atmosphere only a mile away. There was a piano player and a couple good singers, especially Javier, our waiter, who was simply outstanding. It just was a fun place to be and look at the Italian touches to the decorum. Good value prices and excellent food and service. Would definitely revisit when back in LA.

Good food and terrible customer service

By Bhaskar R |

We had an unexpected bad experience this evening during dinner at this restaurant where we having been a regular for the last 19 years. Delicious food as always but customer service was simply awful and very bad. Served won't even finish our meal and wine and bright us the bill with his payment machine saying we need to pay asap since his shift will be over soon and he needs to collect payment. We requested politely if we can wait to pay until we finish our wine and meal and if he can bring us our check. In less than 10 min he came back and asked me for my credit card. Jaw dropping bad server from this African American server. We waited for 25 min to get a table after a reservation at 8:15pm. Just a very unexpected bad experience this evening even though good was good.

Dinner

This place has a nice atmosphere, live music where staff sings. The night we went other patrons got up to sing. Very enjoyable. The food was ok in my opinion. Red Sauce I found wasn’t the greatest dark and rich. Maybe some like it this way I did have vermicelli pomodoro which was good. ( No red sauce). Also the pizza wasn’t that good. Maybe other items on menu better ? Must be doing something right, place has been there long time. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating

Awesome find

By Leroy J |

We went there due to another's recommendation. What a great find Excellent food and singing wait staff. The atmosphere far succeeds the outside. Will definitely be back again

Fun, Affordable and Great Food

I celebrated my daughters birthday at Miceli's. it was her first time see the place. The whole family had a great time with the live music and the tasty Italian food. We ordered appetizers, pizzas, pastas,

Birthday Party

By Linda R |

Love this restaurant! Great food and fun for families or adults. The music and performances are always fun and amazing. One of my favorite places in LA.

Delicious and fun!

By Lindseyv1214 |

Great, reasonably priced Italian food near Universal Studios. The service was amazing, and the treat of singing waiters was an added bonus! Food was delicious!

Good food, fun music

By CorvetteKatie |

We visited with a motorcoach group so they had a pre-fixed menu of food - which was fine because they brought out a wide variety of items to try. The salad was delicious. I liked the fettuccine alfredo as well. They also had pasta with marinara sauce, and several pizzas to choose from. The pizza was ok. I could have stuck with the salad and alfredo and been perfectly satisfied! The wait staff double as entertainment, singing along with live musicians. They were really good! If you are in the area visiting Universal City, this is nearby and a good dinner option.

Italian food from the old movies

By Kyle V |

Went there with my family. The atmosphere was like being in a Godfather movie. All of the waitstaff gets up and sings during dinner. Quite an experience.

Great Food and Music

By Susan G |

Miceli's is another restaurant recommended by a native of Burbank. We enjoyed a delicious dinner of fresh pasta, bread and a side salad. There is live music and the waitstaff sings opera in between their food deliveries. There was a couple of "That's Amore" group sing-a-longs. A fun evening!

Talented Singing Servers With Good Food to Match.

By BruceRave |

This spot is known for its singing servers. Family business has been there a long time. I'm a big fan of the chicken parm. The rolls are exceptionally good as well.

Super cute

By Alan B |

Came here after a full day at Universal Studios. We had a great time! Love the live music. Service was second to none. I had the chicken parmesan, I couldn’t finish it all. Pasta was lovely. We had our 7 month old with us and they were super accommodating.

Great food, great atmosphere, great singing

By Melissa R |

Our second food stop to our first trip to LA. Our family took us out to eat to Miceli's for dinner and a show. The waiters & waitresses all take turns singing a song accompanied by a pianist and drummer. Excellent pizza and service. Strongly suggest going if you love pizza like I do.

Fun night

By Trapperone |

It is a fun place with good pizza. Order extra cheese for more flavor. The singing is great. Perfect for dates.

A favorite for many years - great staff, great food, great times!

By travelmakesUrich |

When we lived in the area, our youngest celebrated every birthday here (for 10 years - her choice every year!), so when we were back visiting and only had time for one meal on our own, this was the place. She loved it at first for the singing servers, but once she found a favorite meal (2 of their delectable rolls, an order of cheese ravioli, finished off with their deep dish chocolate chip cookie a la mode) it no longer mattered if there was a show - the food itself was enough to make it a special meal. Just as we remembered, the food was good and plentiful, the service fast and friendly (we miss Billy the bus boy!) and we only wish we lived closer. We didn't get to see a show because we could only fit in a lunch-time meal, but the owner waited on us personally and we were thrilled to be able to share how many happy memories we'd made there through the years. Recommend this location, recommend street parking (usually easy to find a spot one block before you get there, on the same side of the road) and recommend you shoot for dinner time, so you get to see a show. Most of all, recommend you try it out!

Fun Italian restaurant - singing waiters!

By Traveling_a_lot4fun |

So there is live piano music and then the waiters take turn doing solos for the patrons. The singing was very good (even if a bit loud for a dinner service). The food was very good - the Chicken Marsala was made with fresh ingredients and was very tasty. As we were waiting for our salad we all agreed that the fresh bread was fantastic. We also enjoyed starting with a small salad which included a generous portion of garbanzo beans and olives. The service was friendly and helpful and did a great jobs keeping our drinks filled.

Bloody......

By Simon Ordever |

Ok, so the decor was lovely, the service terrific and the entertaining waiting staff was first class, but the food? How on earth can a restaurant thats been in business over 65 years serve up such bloody awful food?

Fantastic as always

By colt07 |

Visited Miceli’s on Cahuenga Blvd, in Los Angeles (Universal City). Miceli’s has always been a favorite. We arrived around 9:00pm on a Friday night. We had a 9:30 reservation, but we were seated immediately. We had the brueschetta as an appetizer. I had creamy pesto fettuccini and my daughter had chicken Milanese, both entrées were excellent. We both had cannoli for dessert which went well with coffee. We both enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine with the meal. The food and atmosphere were superb. However, as always the staff was the difference. Singing waiters and waitresses are as I remember as a young child. They are all so very nice and helpful. They make the entire experience at Miceli’s an evening to remember even if you are just getting their unbelievable pizza. You can still get outstanding take out at this restaurant. Got off a 7:30pm arrival at LAX and our first stop was Miceli’s. Well worth the trip.

Great Italian Food, plus all the entertaining ambiance you could ask for

By Kevin A |

If you like a place where not only is the food just incredibly delicious, but each of the male and female wait staff sing to a 1 or 2-piece band in the evenings...this is your place. Unlike that "other" mass market chain called Maccaroni Grill where a few of the select waitresses will do an operatic version of happy birthday...EVERY waiter and waitress throughout the evening will belt out either a Broadway show tune, or a popular song or Italian based song in either regular voice or operatic. The minestrone soup delicious, along with their freshly baked and always warm dinner rolls. The staff is very friendly, and always accommodating--even for special requests that might divert a tinge from the menu. Get there early, they can be very busy on weekend peak dinner hours--but it is Definitely worth the wait. You leave with a full stomach of delicious food and a great memory of having dined in an Italian restaurant that could have been based along the great white way in New York.

Great place to enjoy

By ares949 |

Classic Italian restaurant. Entertainment from talented servers is wonderful. This is a wonderful experience. Enjoy an evening of fine food and song. Joe Miceli is a classy gentleman and great host. Looking forward to returning on my next trip to LA.

Across the Highway from Universal Studios

By miamitola |

Kind of a strange place. The table/booth was super uncomfortable and the staff were odd. They try to act and sing and well...it's definitely a show! Food was decent - 4 stars for the lasagna. Valet or a limited supply of street parking.

Birthday Celebration

By Isunwin |

It’s been about 20 years since I’ve eaten here. Hasn’t changed at all! Food is ok, service was good. What we enjoyed most, was the singing. This is a family friendly restaurant with a good size menu. Reasonably priced. Complimentary valet.

Great food, great fun!

By hubbz72 |

Charming old world Italian dining with a real fun twist. The food was excellent and inexpensive, and the service is first class and really pleasurable. But then your waiter/waitress takes off the apron and starts singing, or ours, who was Robb started singing and dancing, and he was great! Really good setting, really good food, but most of all its real good fun, total enjoyment.

Little gem

By Cindy Z |

Ate an early dinner at this older Italian restaurant after reading some reviews. My fettichini carbonara was delicious, it was however the first time I had ever had onion in it, a bit over whelming in flavor, but tasty. My sons chicken Alfredo was also very tasty. What made me give it four stars was that with dinner, the wait staff, sings various songs to entertain the diners. The service was implacable. It was simply a neat little discovery. I also indulged in a most delightful tiramisu, the best I have had outside of Naples, Italy. I will go here again and sample more delicacies. Ciao

Yummy Italian

By Stephanie C |

Good service and very good food! Nice atmosphere! Bread was to die for! I had the meatballs and holy cow were they good! If you are headed to the Hollywood star walk, this place is perfect and right near the action.

Drenched in 'Atmosphere', great value and service, foods OK.

A couple days after Christmas, and with visitng in-laws preparing to head back east, my daughter decided that a family dinner to cap off the holidays would be nice. She had been to Miceli's years ago so she arranged for reservations there. We arrived on time, valet parked and were seated at once. (This visit was during the holidays so the valet was very busy) My first impression was,"Wow" There is so much to see inside the restaurant. Everywhere you look there were murals and faux Italian decorations, balconies and more. It really put me in a festive mood and this was added to by the live entertainment. We quickly realized that all of the serving staff are also wonderful singers and they each take turns doing songs that range from Broadway musicals to standard Italian favorites. The serving staff have obvoiusly been working together for some time because there wasn't a missed step in either the ordering or bringing the food out. Everything came together like clockwork.(especially important since this was a weekend during the holidays and the restaurant was packed) The food however was a bit of a let down. I kept my order simple, spaghetti and meatballs with meat sauce, and it didn't live up to my expectations. I have had the same quality meal at many small Italian restaurants over the years, nothing special. My daughter had the Linguini with broccoli and a butter and garlic sauce that she said was 'good'. Overall the experience was positive, and we will return there in the future and give it another try when it's not so busy.

Another great old school

By aggietraveler1976 |

Great old time Italian. don't go looking for innovative upscale menus. go for the traditional italiano complete with empty chianti bottles with notes on them hanging from the ceiling. good service good food. don't be stuck in what is chic, go for what is good.

Best italian food!

By compcrzy |

This place is my all time favorite. My sister and I have been going here for over 20 years, We've seen movie stars ie: Michael J. Fox and others there. I no longer live as close as I used to, so going is there is extra special now. My favorite dish is the Veal Parmesan with spaghetti, along with a house salad. Yummy!

Disappointing

By freedshop |

My husband and I had a late lunch here after driving on Mulholland Drive. The Trip Advisor reviews described good food and fun, with talented staff singing during your meal, but that was not our experience--although maybe the lack of singing had to do with the time of day that we were there. The restaurant does have a warm setting that evokes a traditional Italian trattoria, and the staff is friendly. However, the food that we ordered was disappointing. We had the fried calamari appetizer and the Clam and Garlic pizza with added Canadian bacon. The calamari was heavily breaded and salty, and we did not like it at all. The pizza was very garlicky (good if you like garlic) but did not taste much of either clams or bacon, and we did not like this dish either. There are lots of other pizzas on the menu, as well as a full range of pastas, seafood, chicken, veal, etc., and maybe some of the other items on the menu would have been better. But we would not go back.

Horrible!!!

By seriousfitness |

We were excited to try this restaurant but all in all it was disgusting! Minestrone soup was mushy and looked like there was 4-5 different soups mixed together. We got baked lasagna with cheese and all I got was Cheese.... I’m all for cheese but it was a to much and my husband had the chicken Parmesan with spaghetti with scauce backed with cheese and he never got any scauce on the spaghetti.... also after our meal I snuck outside for a cigy while my husband was paying and finishing his wine as I came back in I went straight to the washroom and the manager came knocking and yelling at me that why do I think I could sneak in and think I could get passed them just to use the washroom and I told him we had just had dinner and my husband was paying the bill... he says yeah right!!!! I have never been treated so rudely!!! Especially while using the facilities of an establishement!!! (While on the toilet) If they ave such a huge problem, they should pay attention to there patrons who are paying customers... as it wasn’t that busy!!! Never would I recommend this place!!!

Celebrate -- good food, good company

By garymelliott |

Fun, lively restaurant. Inspired by the diners and the great food, the wait staff sings -- belting out classics and arias that make for a fun evening. Food is well prepared; piping hot. Wine list could be better. The Pasta dishes are terrific

Disappointing food

By sharonsea |

It was getting late and I was hungry, so we took the recommendation of our hotel front desk without checking reviews. Kitschy decor was fine. Singing waitstaff was entertaining. But food was only mediocre. Rolls were tasty, but didn't taste remotely Italian. My eggplant parmesan was comparable to Stouffers frozen entree, which is pretty good for frozen food, but not what I expect in an Italian restaurant. My sister had linguine with clam sauce. Other than the handful of clams in the shell garnishing the dish, the clams tasted like canned clams. Wanted to like it, but food was just too disappointing.

Good atmosphere

By hello189 |

Food was average but the service was fantastic and there was a great buzz about the place even on a Sunday. Really enjoyed the waiters' performances which was unexpected. The cookie dough desert was amazing. Worth a visit if in the area and reasonably priced.

Huge disappointment

By Max W |

We went here because of the legendary singing waiters but on the night we went, we were treated to one mediocre version of “An Impossible Dream” that was very difficult to hear. We asked our server whether there would be more and she said “we try to sing when we aren’t busy.” The restaurant wasn’t jammed when we’re there on a weekday between 7:00 and 9:00 pm but still the only real entertainment on offer was a fair to middling pianist. The food was just ok but we didn’t come for the food. The service also left something to be desired. Disappointing to say the least.

Used to be great, now.... Just good.

By CB-MCPO |

This is our usual gathering/dinner spot when we meet our friends from Pasadena. The last two times we were here (Feb and May) the food has been a bit off. I'm not sure if there is a new Chef, but the food hasn't been what we have come to expect from Miceli's. I think the biggest let down recently was the tiramisu, we use to drive from Ventura just for that.

Delicious food and perfect atmosphere.

By SteveArn |

Old world charm and classic taste. Service is excellent. Nice atmosphere - fun location. Went with a vegan friend and she had no problem finding something to eat!! Will definitely return.

A super fun, unique restaurant

By traveltrivia |

If you like a throw back to a past era, this is the place for you. The live piano music, the spur of the moment singing by different servers, the lively family atmosphere make it a one-of-a-kind experience. And the food is good too.

Family vacation

By Dawn F |

Fun atmosphere but food was disappointing. We started with the calamari, eggplant and Chicken appetizer...and it was a nightmare. We love fried calamari which should be light and delicious, this was thick and so chewy...we couldn’t eat it. The eggplant or zucchini (not sure which) was heavy and mushy. Totally nightmare. We should have sent it back. The salads were ok and the famous pizza was also a letdown. Singing was fun but not worth the price of having terrible food. Feeling totally ripped off.

Great food! Great fun!

By PrairieMom3 |

After arriving from Texas and settling into our house, my grown boys decided they wanted Italian. This historic place was right around the corner and what a gem. The bread is fantastic! We had yummy pizza, pasta and salad. The waiters actually sang - real songs - Broadway type, Disney, opera. They played piano and drums and we all loved it. It wasn't too loud for conversation - highly entertaining and yummy - what a great combo! Right at $100 for the 5 of us to eat!

50 Years! I have eaten at Miceli's. I have seen many changes, but this IS Hollywood HIstory!!

By Lonesome Dove |

Miceli's has two locations in the Hollywood area. My favorite is the totally obscure speak-easy located at 1646 N Las Palmas Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028-6112. The walls are lined with pics of the many celebs that have frequented the joint, inc. Sinatra and Martin! The ambiance and atmosphere is unmatched. I recall one time in the late 1960's when a dough ball fight broke out from the kitchen and spread to the customer area. I'll never forget it! Speaking of which...their fresh baked sour dough rolls are to die for!!! In regard to food reviews, I have seen in many top end restaurants where the swing shift chef is not up to par. For that reason, I like to frequent new restaurants on weekends, when the primary chef cooks. As many have stated, the waiters sing at the Cahuenga Blvd, restaurant. the Las Palmas restaurant has a romantic piano bar. They both have excellent bars as well, a very classy place. Parking can be tough on weekends. Las Palmas validates at the local parking lot. Cahuenga has their own lot and limited street. parking. I highly recommend these places. If the food is not up to par, call the owner. He is an awesome man, and will make things right for you! ..........Bon appetite!!

Incredible!

By Globetrotter88 |

A hidden gem just a short stroll from Universal studios. Don't let the slightly run down exterior put you off this is well worth a stop. The decor is traditional italian country, hanging bottles of wine warm colours and a mix of tables and booths. The food...oh where do I start, everything was delicious and freshly cooked. Highly recommend the Carbonara, as authentic as the last time I was in Italy! And the staff....could not be more agreeable and pleasant. We were very well looked after and the cherry on top is....they all sing! Yes you heard right throughout your meal you will be treated to various different styles and songs from the staff (and they are good!!) I have never given any restaurant a perfect score before but they certainly deserved it.

fun place to eat

Singing waiters! Makes dinner time more fun and enjoyable. Food is really good as a bonus and the atmosphere is fun...Books through OpenTable

Good meal and service at Miceli's

By Shawn M |

Stopped in for a late meal after a long day of travel. We were quickly seated and enjoyed a nice meal. I had the fettuccine carbonara, and it was very well prepared and enjoyable. Solid wine list. The dinner rolls are addicting. The staff entertains you by breaking into song with the evenings piano music. A lot of fun. All of the staff were gracious and highly accommodating, Definitely a return trip when I'm back in L.A.

Fun astmosphere

By Michael F |

Good food and good fun. The wait staff has good talent and sang from Les Mis and Beauty and the Beast, etc. The food was not great, but darn good and I won't hesitate to visit again. I had the egg plant cacciatore and it was excellent. Other favorites at our table included the chicken lasagna, smothered in cheese. Yes, you must like cheese.

Great eating

By Crystal O |

A couple nights ago, we were walking to In and Out Burger from our hotel. While waiting to cross the street, we smelled something amazing coming from the building behind us, which happened to be Miceli's. We went to In and Out anyway because, well, hamburgers. However, tonight we stopped in to get a couple of pizzas to go. Everyone was very friendly and our order was ready in the 15-20 minute time frame that we were given. The pizzas smelled so good, I had to muster self control to prevent myself from opening up the box and chowing down on that pizza as we walked back to our hotel. Once we finally got to dive into our dinner, we were not disappointed. The clam and garlic combo was something that I had not had before, but I would most definitely have it again. It was the best meal that we've had in our 3 days in the LA / San Bernardino area. Thank you.

For those who have hearty appetite coupled with fun

By doctorfoxtrot |

This is a family owned restaurants specializing in American and Italian cuisine. Place was dimly lit , and exudes a not so appealing odor . But once you get settled they make you feel comfortable. Servings are good for sharing . So be ready when ordering . The staff are ready with the take away set up since you can't readily consume it . I enjoyed the 2 topping pizza , lasagna , ceasar salad and the ice cream dessert . One aspect I liked is that the servers have special talent . Yes , they can sing . And looks capable of dancing . They can do the routine with bravado. Special shout out to Juliana , who is not only a good waitress but a captivating singer as well .

Old Charm with talented Waiters and Waitresses

By SenengJalan |

Traditionally decorated Italian restaurant, food was good, the wait for food to come was a bit long, however, there's always entertainment to kill time. Waiters and Waitresses are talented performers. Overall, was a nice experience.

Excellent family Italian restaurant with singing waiters!

By e_recruiter |

I have driven past this traditional Italian restaurant many times, and am so glad we decided to finally try it! It was fantastic! The food was a strong 4+ star rating, but the ambiance of this super fun restaurant with live music definitely earns the 5th star. This is a great family place with delicious pizza and lasagna, and the entertainment was first class. The waiters are incredibly talented trained musicians and we enjoyed every minute of our dining experience. The owner greeted us, and told us of the restaurant's continuing family legacy. Don't miss this one - it's a fun experience for everyone in the family!

Final dinner

By Jim S |

We stopped in here after going to universal studios on our last day in the city. The pizza was delicious and the atmosphere was old and nostalgic. We got a pizza that was half the special and other half just veggies. A small pizza with the bread was perfect for just the two of us. I would recommend checking this place out if you enjoy pizza and want an old school Italian feel. They also have live entertainment.

Disappointed

By Sonya F |

We stumbled upon this place just off the walk of fame, checked the reviews and decided to give it a try. We were very disappointed in the food. I don't understand all the high reviews and praise. I got Vela parmesan and my husband got lasagna so not particularly fancy or difficult dishes. I could not tell you for sure if my veal was actually veal and I believe it was probably a frozen veal patty. I did not even eat a third of my meal and the waiter never even I quoted if there was a problem. My husband also did not finish his meal. We got those 2 items and w sodas and spent $67. It was a very expensive meal for poor quality food. We did not even get salads or anything. Just our plates of food and sodas The positives were the old timey Hollywood atmosphere and how quickly our food was served. Also we had seen reviews that mentioned singing waiters we did not see any singing waiters so I don't know if that is only at certain times or what. I would not return to this restaurant

What a great Italian restaurant!

By Kitty J |

After seeing Tony Bennett/Lady Gaga at the Hollywood Bowl, my husband, BFF and her hubby stopped in Miceli's for a late dinner. Our Waitress Charlotte was wonderful! So charming, informative, funny, a BEAUTIFUL singing voice (all the waiters sing there!) and she put up with our husband's dry humor and jokes!! My husband and I got a pizza and it was very good! Honestly I don't remember what our friends got, but I know they too enjoyed their dinners! The interior is large and decorated so cute! It's like you are in an Italian village. I believe we were there until Midnight...they close at 11pm and no one came by to hurry us or to even give a hint they were closed. They let us take our time and have a great meal. *Note we purposely didn't stay there so late! LOL! We did not know what time they closed until we were leaving and realized there was no one else except the staff closing up left! But a definite stop if you are in the area. My husband and I also had lunch at the Miceli's in downtown Hollywood on Las Palmas...we like that one too, but the Universal City location was our fave!

Food and Fun

By rharch |

The food is good. The entertainment value is great! I should qualify that statement. I prefer thick crust pizza and they serve thin, crispy crust, so I was disappointed. Others in our party had the Eggplant Parmigiana and the Chicken Cacciatore and absolutely loved it. The singing was phenomenal! The wait staff is an amazingly talented group of vocal artists. Come early if you want to dine on the weekend. Miceli's is very popular and will fill up quickly.

Good basic Italian with quirky atmosphere

By steverA8718SU |

We almost walked out it appeared so "hokey" , but after a while the singing waiters grow on you. Noisy and fun for people watching and some pretty decent basic family kind of Italian food. It has been in existence since 1949 so it is really a keeper.

We eat Italian out often ..this place would place on the bottom of my list !! It’s just OK!!

By CiaoBella0215 |

Was looking forward to eating here as the place came recommended, we were disappointed, service was Extremely Slow!! Wouldn’t make a trip back there are far too many place to choose from.

Dinner AND a Show...Superb!

By Stamarock |

The food and the atmosphere at Miceli's are top notch. This was my second trip to the restaurant, but we brought colleagues for their first visit. They LOVED it! Whether you order spaghetti, lasagna, pizza or another dish, you'll find that the food will exceed your expectations. A special surprise is the talented servers who sing. The live music is quite entertaining. You will have time and money well spent by visiting this little Italian gem!

I WANT TO GO BACK FREQUENTLY!

By Dawn |

Went to Miceli's for the first time last night and would give it 10 stars if I could. It doesn't look like a lot from the outside but it is actually incredible once you walk in. The Italian food was delicious, the portions were huge and the ambiance was perfect for a casual get together or a family celebration for a special education. Our waiter Rob, had the strongest most beautiful voice I'd ever heard and his performances were full of life, The service was superb, and the crowd was active. Prices were totally reasonable for all that it was too. Perfect place for to start a night out or just eat and drink for two or three hours. Parked on the street (got lucky) but they have valet too.

Terrible

By Christophe L |

Nice Italian vibe with even live piano music. Food average and expensive…Not real italian cuisine, a lot of mexican influences. hygiene is a problem…we found a living fly in the parmigianno. Still had to pay almost 50 dollar tip as we were a party of 6. A place to avoid!

Overrated

By Peggy C |

The host at the desk was VERY rude. We were running late but called and were told no problem. When we got the the host said he had given our table away because he wasn't told that we were running late. When he spoke he was very rude and even told my friend she wasn't very nice. How dare he!!! As for the food....The marinara sauce tasted burnt. The noodles were completely drowned in the sauce. The dinner salad was iceberg lettuce and very few other veg. in it. For the price, it is very overrated. I was very disappointed and will NEVER go back or recommend it.

Fun Restaurant With Ok Food

By RKD0000 |

My family and I decided to give this local Italian restaurant a try after reading some online reviews. Parking was challenging since they only have a small parking lot and you must valet your car to use it. We walked in to what is an established restaurant, live music was playing, and the staff took turns singing. I have to say, they were pretty good, and it was entertaining. The staff was very friendly, and the place was busy. We decided to go traditional and ordered cheese ravioli with meat sauce and spaghetti and meatballs. I’m sad to say we were all a little disappointed. The food wasn’t “bad,” but it wasn’t anything to write home about either. Our bill came out to roughly $75 for three entrees and one soft drink (two of us just had water). Honestly, I thought it was a little overpriced for what they delivered. It is possible some other entree options may have been better, so please remember this opinion is based on our one-time experience.

Disappointed

By Miss ceee |

Visited this place by chance for a takeaway pizza from taking a break from driving. Ordered a Margarita pizza which cost 35 dollars for a large. What a disappointment!!! Cheese was not mozzarella was stringy cheese. They drowned it with seasoning and pasta tomato sauce! Which was dripping from it.. from the exterior looked like a proper Italian however the quality of pizza is no where near the quality of pizza you would find even in a chip shop in Glasgow! Maybe try somthing else on the menu or chef is needing to have a masterclass what is defined as an authentic Italian pizza!

What a great experience, you must not miss this place

We were a family of four UK nationals visiting LA on vacation in June 2014. Despite having travelled widely, all of us feel that we have never experienced anything like this - or so unique as this in the past. We were saying at the Clarion Inn just up the road and looking for somewhere to eat one evening. It just goes to prove that outside appearances do not necessarily reveal what's on the inside! Miceli's Universal City looks quite ordinary from the sidewalk, you might not give it a second view. It does have managed parking but that was quite congested so we ere glad we walked there from our hotel. The first inside view - at first sight the place appears congested and busy. There are bottles and decorations everywhere but these only add to the overall warm feeling you get for the place after a short time. We had a brief wait at the bar for a table. Basically my only disappointment was that there was no draft beer but that's a small whine. The atmosphere was marvelous, friendly and warm. We really enjoyed the food. The favorites? My daugher and I chose the Carbonara and we really enjoyed that, I could certainly eat that again, all washed down with a bottle of house red Cabernet Sauvignon good but a little too warm (yes I know cool or chilled red wine is a French thing, but then we live in France, try it it does wonders sometimes :)). Our evening was rounded off with the singing staff. we understood from our waitress that all the staff have to take part! The two ladies we heard were great. Like I said, we never experienced anything like this place before! I've got photos from my smartphone but they don't do justice to the interior - to understand, take a look at their website: http://www.micelisrestaurant.com/). My conclusion - this really is an experience not to be missed with the good food. I don't think I've ever given a restaurant 6 excellents before but I can really recommend a visit.

friendly and ok food

By Vyness |

went here alone- order glass of wine and sicilian spaghetti with meatballs as recommended by the server. portion quite large, 2 chunky meatballs, i found there was too much onion in the sauce. meal was good and tasty but not the best italian ive had restranrant was decorative and quirky and piano player made it a nice atmosphere.

Went here twice while in the area, first time was great.........

By Dan B |

We were looking for a place to have dinner one day while touring the area, found this place and couldn't have been happier. We went late in the afternoon on a Sunday and the place was not too busy. The parking was great right behind the building, we were seated quickly, the staff was awesome and the food was great. We found the price point to be a little high, but not being from the area, maybe this is normal here. A couple of days later we were in the area and decided since we enjoyed it so much we would go back. I wish we had not. While the food was still excellent as far as taste and quantities go, that was the end of the good. First off, when we pulled into the same parking lot as a few days earlier, we were greeted by a valet attendant who became quite rude when I questioned where else we could park. Right away I was questioning our decision to return here. He insisted that he had to park the car or "go park on the street and pay there too" I decided that I was not up for a battle and let him park the car and went inside. One of the things that we liked about the place during our original visit was the fact that it was a quiet, friendly restaurant with great food. Not at all quiet during the second visit, they had live music which I was not aware of, but that is my fault not theirs. I did not like the fact the servers were also singers between serving tables, which certainly slowed them down. I hated the fact that a couple of times our waiter decided to scream his songs at our table. As a wrap up, this would have been a five star if we had only been the one time and if you are into loud, pricy restaurants with good food, this is the place. Im not sure what time the live music starts, so you may want to look into that.

Favorite Italian resturant in Los Angeles.

By tracer1000 |

Love this resturant! Service is amazing. Our server Christopher on this visit was no exception. After visiting Italy this is ine of the few places I enjoy. I had the chicken picatta and my business associate had the chicken parmigian. Both dishes were prepared perfectly. Cannot wait to visit again.

You have to go!

By Desiree |

We were from out of town with teenagers celebrating their 16th birthdays and the singing wait staff with live piano player was AH-MA-ZING!!! Pizza is nothing like at home in Jersey/Philly, can’t beat ours, but that’s not why you go. So much fun, great food and service! Highly recommend. I’d go often if this was in my hometown. Oh, and valet is complimentary but tip highly recommended!

Disappointing!!

By Dylan D |

I was hoping to be able to find food options to meet my dietary restrictions- and was unable to. Unfortunately our waiter was not helpful or willing to discuss it with me. I was also under the impression that all businesses serving food were required to be able to provide the nutritional facts for their items, but I was told it was not available.

Great food, atmosphere, and entertainment

By Dahlia V |

We visited Miceli’s after a day at Universal Studios. The food was delicious and our server was extremely courteous and a great singer! Love the music and the fact that your server will suddenly sing an opera solo or Sinatra like duet in between bringing you bread and your dinner. Such a great experience. Take the family!

Fabulous

By Amanda N |

Great fun restaurant-brilliant waitress. This was a perfect Hollywood experience. My only criticism was that we were greeted with rude comments about our English accents -rather offensive and unnecessary!

Another wonderful evening!

By travelin_mama |

We just returned from celebrating another family birthday! The food, entertainment and overall atmosphere was incredible. We had a variety of pasta dishes ordered as well as pizza and everyone loved it. We arrived at 5pm for the piano and singing. Thank you for a wonderful evening, we are all looking forward to returning again!

So fun!

By riverasfamily7 |

We came after a day at Universal. We ordered the antipasto salad and the dressing was delicious. We also ordered 2 pizzas which were fresh and delicious. The wine was good. The service was great and the entertainment was so, so fun! A great evening.

Amazing food and service!

By Emma T |

Was looking for somewhere to eat after a long day travelling up the west coast and was recommended this restaurant by our hotel as it was only a short walk away....Couldn't have been better! The food was so tasty, filling, fresh and reasonably priced! Our server was brilliant and the piano player/singers gave us some great entertainment. Really recommend checking this place out for good quality Italian cooking!

Always a great time - every time!

By SurferinLA |

Love, love, love this place. Great comfort food, great service and singing waitstaff. Who can't love that?!?! When ever I need a place to feel good - this is where I go. They pour an amazing martini btw. Ask to sit near the piano (unless you want to have a quiet evening - then ask to be in the corner) because it is all about the show!! Don't miss this Los Angeles legend.

Fun and delightful

By Caren Y |

This place is a stereotype straight out of a Sinatra film. The bottles of empty Chianti line the place as do murals of Italy. The place looks like it is stuck in 1954. But the food, oh the food was fabulous; Old World Italian red sauce (or gravy if you prefer) tastes like Nonna’s Sunday dinner. The pizza was amazing as was the Caesar salad. The service was fine, the shock is hearing the wait staff sing to the live pianist. It was entertaining and delightful.

I wanted to like it but...

By amcarpenter123 |

I am not a food critic in any way but I seriously did not enjoy the dinner and experience here. Went for dinner after reading reviews on trip advisor. Sounded like fun for the family and decent food. I tried to like it but just couldn’t. The decor was tired and worn out. Only heard 2 waiters sing a song. I ordered the baked manicotti but it came out as mush with burnt edges. Husband ordered lasagna but couldn’t finish eating it because it was hard and burnt on the bottom. Kids shared fettuccini Alfredo and had ravioli with no complaints. Our orders were taken and we finished eating in less than 30 minutes. And the prices were not a bargain either. Hmmm... sorry, I just cannot recommend based on the lack of quality of the food at quite a cost.

Universal Italian

By Earl2013 |

If in California visiting universal Studio near by on Ventura Blvd is Miceli's Italian Rest. Great pizza , Lasagna, pasta, and if you attend in the evening the waiters will intertain you because most are there as a second job waiting to become discovered, yes they are into show business, singers, dancers and actors. Total enjoyment ,see them before they become famous.

Cant wait to go back!!!!!

By Andrewcary11 |

We happened to be in LA for a few days, and found Miceli's on the recommended restaurants page at the Warner Brothers Studio Tour. What a great time we had, wonderful food, singing waiters, just an overall, fantastic night. We havent enjoyed an Italian meal as much as we had at Miceli's in a long, long time. and it also happened to be my wifes birthday that night( also half of the other patrons were celebrating a birthday as well) There isnt an item on the menu that will disappoint you. everything is as it should be, red and white checkered tablecloths included. I am looking forward to my next trip to LA. MICELI'S !!!!!!

Long on charm and service, very short on seasoning

By DTM46 |

This place is pretty fun and has stood the test of time. It opened in 1949. It looks it inside, too. Not a lot of remodeling has happened here on 65 years. But it's very homey inside. He service was great. We were in a rush to get to a basketball game and they really bent over backwards to help us. Service here is very good. The atmosphere is great, too. The waiters do, indeed, sing while you dine. The bruschetta was good - lots of tomatoes but the bread for the bruschetta could have been tastier. Then came the salads - also good, though I'd recommend having the dressing on the side. The salads were drenched in salad dressing. My wife had Fetuccine Alfredo and I had, sorry, the most bland lasagna I have ever had. I mean, even a few shakes of pepper would help. I think the pizza would probably be better. Really, I'm not saying don't eat here, I'm just saying, based on our experience, don't expect much from the food. Fun place, though. Kind of loud with the singing, though.

Great Dinner and Entertainment

By andrealara1212 |

A very cozy Italian restaurant with a family-friendly atmosphere for dining and entertainment. We were there late at night and were amazed at the talented opera singing waiters. Each waiter took turns singing with a piano, while people enjoyed yummy bread rolls and butter in a slightly dim centralized table arrangement to the entertainment. The prices were reasonable for a family of five. We ordered a large pizza and dinner salad. We left Miceli's with full bellies and would definitely return when we're in the area again.

Absolutely superb !!!!

By Steve M |

Literally stumbled across this place on the way back from city walk. The food and service are excellent but the bonus is the waiters are all singers and sing all sorts from modern to opera and they are brilliant!! Do not miss a trip to this place! It really finished our day off nicely !

Stick to the pizza

By Scott Crawford |

Miceli's has always been a fun place. The current waiter/singers are more irritating rather than pleasurable, too much tremilow, pitch problems, lack of stage presence. I've always had pizza here but today, I wanted something different. So I had Pasta with clams- not a good choice. My friend had ravioli with white goop sauce. Yuch! The salad with Italian dressing was sweet!.the buns were tasty as was the butter... The staff was terrific, couldn't be nicer and more attentive. They added 18% gratuity to the check, I would have given more but there it was...

Great fun dinner, live music, singing servers... Yummy menu

By jyee5127 |

An established Itilian restaurant with good food, fun and lively atmosphere, songs performed by request, talented servers who sing for their supper... Strong menu of great eats from pasta, pollo, seafood to tasty veal, cooked the way you like it, very reasonably priced, served hot and fresh, with a song.... Many families and groups there, birthdays, fun times... Lots of couples also.... I asked them to sing five songs, they could perform three of the five... It was busy... Been in same location every for over 40 years.... Check it out!

A great fun dinner

By GHandMim |

After reading the reviews on Tripadvisor, I booked this place as we were staying nearby on a family holiday. We were not disappointed. This place was easy to find, with easy valet parking. We entered to an amazing fun atmosphere with live piano and drums and waiters and waitresses singing. As we got to our seats the waitress finished her song, came over and asked us what we'd like to drink. Such fun! Good wine list and varied menu. The house lasagne was out of this world. The service very quick, and food very good. It's the atmosphere of fun and enjoyment that makes this place special. Well worth a visit

Soooooo good!

By Nicol S |

From the singing waiters to the fried calamari to the chicken Marsala to the cappachino to the MOST FREAKING AWESOME TIRAMISU - this restaurant has it all! I'd eat there every night if I could!

Muceli's Restaurant

Singing waiters! So much fun. Loved the lasagna and the pizza! Great place for birthdays or a special date. Piano player is amazing.

Fun for large Dinner Party

By ABQRicardo |

Big party at Miceli's. Everything went very well. Enjoyed the pizza. Service was attentive, and the wait staff were really good singers.

Bad and expensive

By franck17 |

We found this restaurant by chance but chance does not do things sometimes. The only positive thing is the waiter who was pleasant. For the rest we border on industrial disaster like pizza I think. The dough was hard and difficult to cut and the filling just right. Finally, I had an iced tea that tasted mostly of water and fortunately I took the ice cubes out of the glass. The final bill was $45 for pizza and iced tea. My conclusion, restaurant to avoid

Super fun family place with great food

By Michele K |

Super fun family place with great food. This is Italian family dining at it's best. All of the waiters have to audition to get a job because they all are aspiring singers and use their beautiful voices to entertain you while you shovel delicious Italian favorites into your kids to cut down on calories. Their menu is extensive and will have something for everyone including dieters :)

Last night of hols

By Lesley D |

Found this restaurant on trip advisor and read the reviews so decided to go. Absolutely fabulous!! Family run very busy but only waited 20mins. The owner came over for a chat and said he would find us a good seat to see the action but we didn't know what he meant. Once we sat down and the waiters one by one got up to sing we realised what he meant it was great and the food was great too. Don't go if you want a quiet romantic meal but defo go and enjoy the singing!!!

Wonderful Restaurant

By Crystal R |

Micelis is a wonderful restaurant with delicious Italian food and amazing atmosphere. The decor is old Italian with brick walls and red checkered linens. The waiters sing show tunes as they serve and interact with customers. The food is super yummy also.

Fun and entertaining!

By Snooptrooper |

We enjoyed a nice meal with great entertainment! Food is tasty typical Italian fare. Our group of 8 really enjoyed the bread basket of homemade rolls. Pizza is a favorite here but many in our group ordered dinners; eggplant parmigiana, chicken Marsala, and spaghetti. All were good. The waiters all take turns singing during the evening and they're wonderful! Our only negative is the parking, but they do offer valet service. It was our first visit so we will use it next time!

Singing good food bad

By F7718GAjohnv |

Hate when the water down the men’s room soap! Bar drink was not great. Ordered eggplant Parma and it was very average, it was suppose to come with spaghetti but did not! Our waiter made excuses for everything! The pizzas are pathetic, tastes like a saltine cracker crust. We ordered a large anti pasta salad to go, $18.95. Took it home and there were no Italian cold cuts, celery was cut for a horse to eat and the tomatoe had mold on it. Distcusting! After the horrible meal I looked around and nothing has been dusted in YEARS! The singers were great, very entertaining but not good enough to make this place passable. If I served that food at home my Italian grandmother would beat me with a wooden spoon.

Waiters sing...

By mandarin_mom |

Best tasting italian dishes. The waiters takes turns to sing with the pianist accompanying them. I think most are real theater artists having a 2nd job as waiters. An experience of eating and entertainment to all.

Great neighborhood Italian restaurant

By Evan B |

Miceli's is a family-owned & operated Italian restaurant in Los Angeles. Its original Hollywood restaurant was opened in 1949, and this location near Universal Studios has been operating for several decades. Miceli's is a local favorite with good food, a nice atmosphere & fun live entertainment in the evenings, starting about 5:30 PM. There is a pianist/singer, who is sometimes accompanied by drums & other instruments, plus the servers take turns belting out opera, old standards & show tunes to the delight of the diners. Dinners are a little pricey, but you can get the same great dishes (without the live entertainment) at lunch for a much lower price. The Appetizer Combo is a full meal, as is the Antipato Misto (really more like a big salad). The lasagna is a favorite among its customers--and for good reason. The specialty pastas are a good deal, and you can even customize your own pasta dish, if desired. The pizza here is very popular, but way too expensive, in my opinion. Miceli's is a good place for a quiet lunch or a rollicking fun dinner experience, whichever you prefer!

Fun, Fun, Fun

By dawnwtv |

If you want the best singers to serenade you during dinner then Miceli's is the place. Old Hollywood abounds in this gem. The food is fabulous and the pizza will hit the spot. Great date night destination!

A Special Place

By LLcoolGinge |

I proposed to my wife at this place. We loved it there. We added a Chianti bottle to the collection of those hanging to commemorate the occasion. The waiter who served us was superb, he clearly loved his job. Food was excellent, definitely worth visiting for the pizza. We’ll go back one day, that’s for sure.

Good food and atmosphere, the bread is worth the visit!

By Jason K |

Miceli's is a regular must do spot for us whenever we visit family in the area. While in general I find most Italian to be a bit bland, at Miceli's it's above average. The lasagna and pizza are particularly good. We go usually twice on every visit to the area. What you go for though is the atmosphere and entertainment. I work in the entertainment industry so I can tell you that visiting other restaurants where the servers take breaks to sing for you can be a very painful experience but not here. They are always top rate and very entertaining. Dinner and a show is exactly what you get here. But no review would be complete without mentioning the fresh baked bread they bring you. Hot and doughy it's the best I've had. Makes me want to make the trek down now and have some. Parking in the area is at a premium but they do offer valet so use that.

GREAT FOOD AND GREAT MUSIC

By Phillip S |

This Italian favorite offers a great selection of food and some great opera singers. It is walking distance from the Sheraton Universal or Hilton and is worth the walk. The music and food will make you feel like you are in Italy. A must visit on your trip to Universal City.

Still shaking my head!!

By Barbara J |

I don’t know where to start. Went there for my brother’s 65th birthday. It was a cute looking restaurant, with entertainment that about the only thing I liked about it. The service left a lot to be desired. We asked for water 6 times during the course of dinner and never got it. Coming from NYC I thought maybe there was a water storage. Now onto to dinner which was not good. I ordered chicken franchise. When I got it the chicken was white with zucchini on it. I never seen totally white chicken before. You could not eat it(disgusting). My husband got shrimp scampi, the pasta was greasy. My daughters got the carbonara and was wondering how the pasta could be dry and taste like card board!! To add insult to injury the bill was quite hefty, when we got back to the hotel we went to check it. What a surprise when we discovered they gave us the wrong receipt

Dinner and a Show

By Courtenay O |

Service was incredible. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. He was also a fabulous singer. Rolls were hot and fresh. Chianti was good. Sausage pizza was awesome. Minestrone was mire tomato than expected. Antipasti was different than expected - lots of lettuce and good dressing. Tonight’s dinner was a mixed bag. It was good, filling, and we will probably be back.

Singing Service Hollywood Style

By brodie52 |

They say in Hollywood go big or go home...well you won't being going home with first visiting Miceli's in Universal City. We stumbled onto Miceli's described as an Italian Place. Well the restaurant does have an incredible Italian atmosphere and serves food you couldn't get any better in Rome but there is something else on the menu. ENTERTAINMENT! The piano player if fabulous but then...wait for it: ALL the talented waiters SING. They sing very very well. This is the perfect place for a celebration. If you are staying in the Universal City area and visiting Universal Studios Make sure you include a visit to Miceli's for dinner....so so worth it. Cudos to every waiter in the building.

Good atmosphere and pasta

By DothanEvents |

The veal park was pretty good, but the spinach lasagna seemed to be made from canned (not fresh) spinach. The waiter was a little slow, but the live pianist helped kill the time. Better than the food on the Blvd in Hollywood.

Garlic bread

By Mara T |

My boyfriend loves garlic bread, he is super picky with food so taking him out is a challenge. We came to this restaurant, sat down on the table that we call now ( our table) order the garlic bread + lemon chicken + lasagna and it was the best cozy and romantic dinner.!

Food is mediocre

By CK |

Came here with friends who live nearby Check in at 8:30 there's a crowed - lots of singing - everyone seems welcoming & happy. Waiters are busy with orders taking pictures or singing 😜 not everyone can sing!! Bread is dense & chewy 👎🏽 Anis special lasagna - nothing special Part of my food just have Pasta & Sauce half portion have cheese & meat😏 Friends have shrimp & scallops - it's ok another seafood in a bowl with vermicelli dish 🙄 I expected more traditional dishes since the atmosphere is very rustic/old. Nothing that is worth coming back for ! At the end the server is slow!

Always fun and delicious!

By Diana C |

We have eaten at Miceli's for my birthday every August for 20 years and usually another time or two throughout the year. It is a bit of a drive so we can't go as often as we would like, but that's OK as we always look forward to it. We enjoy all the food and have tried many dishes. Each family member has a favorite from spaghetti caruso to lasagna. The singers/wait staff are fun and the evening is always delightful. It can be a bit pricey for a family, so I would suggest sharing meals, skipping "leftovers" doing that, and minimize wine by the glass. Parking can be a bear but we usually arrive between 5:30 and 6:00 for best parking. Enjoy your mea!

"Dinner and a song" at Miceli's instead of "sit and sleep" at home!

By Igor P. Shuvalov MD, MBA, 1967 |

Why would you move to Los Angeles? To enjoy Italian food of course, especially if it is everywhere around your new residence from upper scale Malibu to family style diner on Ventura in Encino where you can bring your parent for a huge portion of just a pasta & traditional sauce! But if you are for a dinner and a show, say it is a date, but have not earned your corporate jet to fly to San Francisco opera, you'd better drive several blocks to the east, where you can enjoy traditional Italian house wine and a dinner, accompanied by Italian songs professionally performed by the staff. The piece of Italy in Universal City is called Miceli's and it is just several blocks away from Sheriff’s favorite bowling if you like scary movie series or midnight coffee. Reservation is possible of course, but with a local girlfriend you don't need it and can just walk in into traditional design restaurant and fully enjoy your dinner & an opera along with old good red wine by the glass! And since the repertoire of songs is quite broad - the repetitive visit is unavoidable no matter whether it is 2003 or 2013, no reservation calls required - even the sheriff can afford it!

Dinner and entertainment #funtimes

By Allan D |

Staying at Sheraton Universal and they recommend City Place. My family and I wanted to try something different. This was up our alley. Singing waiters and lots of food. The reason that the rating is not higher is due to the pizza being seasoned and my older son not enjoying it that much. However he did enjoy the Calamari (could have been crispier for my liking). I will however recommend as it is an institution.

Disappointed

By Seajal J |

Went to eat here after a long day only to be disappointed with the food. $80 down the drain and none of us finished our food. In fact, we were still hungry at the end of the night. Big disappointment!!!

Musical dining

By ReneeBittner |

What a shocker. We happened upon this restaurant by chance tonight but it will be no accident when we go back tomorrow night. All of the staff are singers so it is nonstop live music, add to that delicious food at a reasonable price. You cannot get much better than that. Thank you for a most enjoyable night.

In Los Angeles

By Jaynee C |

Just by chance went to miceli's Italian restaurant. Located on Cahuenga Blvd. Family owned. Great ambience . Only had appetizers but great. David plays the piano Charlie drums and is also the manager. Ashley sings. In fact most of the servers do sing. You not only enjoy the food but the amazing talent. Charlie is part of the family owned restaurant that appears to want to carry in family tradition , values and good food. Stop by support our family own, restaurants we are loosing this value of family food and pride. Having dinner on Saturday to celebrate our anniversary. Will let you know about main entrees.

Always on Key

By Earlyguy |

Miceli's is a fun, old-fashioned Italian red-sauce joint located across the freeway from Universal Studios. I have been going there for over 2 5 years, and the food never fails to satisfy, with large delicious portions at a great price point. And the real treat? Every server is a singer, and they are quite talented. At some point during your dinner one of the servers will stand up and sing a song, whether opera or popular standard, and they are very talented (this is Hollywood, remember). I have enjoyed every meal I've eaten here, and I love the friendliness and capability of the lovely staff.

Best kept secret in LA!

By Cruisemama4 |

We happened into Miceli's. We were immediately welcomed by an inviting atmosphere, live music and Brian the bartender from Montana. He had the best personality and invited us to taste some wines. Once we settled on our wine(s), we were seated at a table by Billy from London. Our server Ritchie was friendly and attentive. The food was DELICIOUS! Next thing we knew, the servers were singing! They were amazing and had us in awe of their talent! We actually recorded them. We had the absolute BEST time and food! If you in LA you must NOT miss this gem! We will be returning with all our friends and family. Can't wait to go back!

Hollywood neighborhood fun!

Good food and entertainment

By magicianlady |

We enjoy eating here. We have tried the pizza, pasta, chicken, and fish dishes and always liked the food. The best part for us is that the wait staff take turns singing and they have amazing voices. I recommend coming early for dinner as they are popular.

Come for the entertainment and have a meal as well

By TheNunamakers |

Went to this restaurant last night and had a blast, especially when our waiter took his turn at the mic and belted out a great version of "New York, New York". Just before the break the entire wait staff gathered and did a crowd pleasing rendition of Pharrell's "Happy". The Italian food was good and came with generous portions. The service was very attentive even from all of these would-be performers. There were several families with young children who were well entertained by all of the activity. This is a high energy atmosphere, not really what I would want for a date night but perfect for myself and my 6 adult friends.

Wonderful Italian Restaurant 🇮🇹

By Stephanie C |

My Mom and I visited this restaurant and it was so beautiful inside. The staff made us feel very welcomed. Food was delicious. Environment made me feel like I was eating in a village in Italy. Very nice experience.

DO NOT EAT HERE

By Winemaker4you |

Piano player was the only excitement The food was terrible the waiter was rude And the bottles hanging overhead had more dust then dirt road Ordered a large pizza it came out half cooked needles to say it was a waist of time and money Never have I had such terrible experience Keep away from micelis

Great food and entertainment.

This is my favorite Italian restaurant hands down. Everything is tasty and the pizza, rolls, and cannelloni are exceptional.

Singing Fun

By FishyBendOregon |

The servers are singers... made it fun. If not for the singing, this place might not be in business. Food very average. Guess everyone must try this once...

Can't wait to return

By travelin_mama |

Incredible ambiance and food! Brought my daughter and friends for her birthday. Service was great, very attentive staff. Loved the live music and singing staff. Will definitely be returning with the rest of my family.

Talented singing staff, great Italian food.

By SBLMaine |

This place is such fun. The ambiance is upbeat, you feel happy the moment you walk in.. Exterior is painted with colorful scenes of Italy, and the interior is charming, comfortable, kitchy, with red leather booths and grape arbors, and plenty of room for large parties. Lots of excellent wines, lovely cocktails and of course, a perfect selection of classic, traditional Italian food. My favorite is their Sausage and peppers in a delicious red sauce. Pastas, seafood, chicken, veal,.. All prepared in the old school manner. During the evening the wait staff entertains with all sorts of operatic melodies, but there was also a ragtime piano at one point. Micellis is fun, service is delightful, and you never leave hungry.

Wonderful restaurant in the heart of Hollywood.

By Michael F |

Make a reservation. My family insists on having at least one dinner here every visit to Hollywood. This trip we had dinner and a late lunch. Try their special. It never disappoints.

Fun, Unique Place. If on vacation, make this one of your stops!

I always enjoy a trip to Miceli's! They are an Italian restaurant with an unmatched ambience! It is beautiful just being in there! Their claim to fame is the singing waiters. There is a house duet of drums and piano, and the waiters take turns singing jazz standards and showtunes. It's very fun. But even without that, I'd love this place! It's like disneyland with details everywhere to watch out for! The ONE thing that can be challenging here is parking. I haven't had too much of an issue... but it CAN be an issue. Plan a bit of extra time for parking, and you'll have a great night!

If you like visiting a time warp, this is the place for you

By LATraveller77 |

Every couple of years I find myself on Cahuenga, tired and hungry, and somehow right in front of Miceli's. "Don't do it," I tell myself, and then I do it. I enter the time machine, and it is 1956 Los Angeles. Older men in sansabelt pants and Captain's hat are at the bar, blue-haired women are at tables and booths, and OMG, the wait staff are singing. This night, a waitress was gamely belting out, "Mambo Italiano." All I can say is that Rosie Clooney is somewhere, desperately wanting to make those sounds stop. As for the food, fuhgeddaboutit!

Great singers, fun atmosphere, OK food

By dbartoletti |

Went here with the family to try it out and had a lot of fun. The restaurant is a fun and happening place with piano in the center and singing waiters who keep the place hopping. The draw here is the singing waiters (not the food) and they really are a lot of fun. Our waiter belted out a tune and was taking the order at the table next to us, 10 seconds after dropping the mic. The food though is average. My parents would call it a Tomato Palace. The fried calamari was the pre-made, frozen and then fried when ordered kind. The fettuccine cabonara was watery with more onions (not typical in this dish) than pancetta. However, if you stick to the basics (e.g., pizza, spaghetti and meat balls, etc) you will have a great time and a good meal. My wife had the chicken and it was GREAT! Tender, juicy and very flavorful. Go here, order the basics and have a lot of fun. Oh, and order the bottle of Chianti in the flask, so you can add your bottle to the collection. If you are looking for traditional, quality Italian food, this is not the place for you. The food here is on par with what a typical pizza joint would make.

You'll LOVE the Singing Waiters!!

Great food, charming decor and talented wait staff make for a fabulous evening of food and music! Try this restaurant!!

Unexpected gem!

By SummertimeinGreece |

Went to the place just because it was convenient and looked decent from the outside... It was a great surprise! The atmosphere was excellent, dark but got you the feeling if an Italian bistro somewhere... The food was also very good with very decent priced plates. The surprise? All the waiters are soprano singers / singers and they take a break and go next to the old but great piano player (congrats for still playing so good!) and they start singing... and what voices! Very pleasant lunch to get away for the crazy Hollywood Blvd.

Great Italian Food - Great Service!

I've eaten at their other location and loved it. Tried this location today and just as great as the Hollywood restaurant. Same recipes - excellent service.

Delicious and fun!!

Went on a Sunday night, made reservations. What a fun place!! Singing waiters and waitresses, delicious food, a very fun atmosphere! One of the best parts of our LA vacation!

Good Italian Fare, Great Old-Style Entertainment

By Buenoman58 |

For an entertaining dinner with your significant other who enjoys live singing with a Sinatra flair, this place can't be beat. Great Italian food with reasonable prices and something for everyone in the family. All of the wait staff in addition to serving your dinner takes turns singing at the piano, and all are very talented.

A Universal City Icon , Always a Great Experience

Our Family has been dining at Miceli's for 20 + years , we have celebrated anniversaries, birthdays and special events. We found ourselves in the area for an event at City Walk and not wanting to chance the touristy food at the "Walk" we stopped by our old fave. We were pleased to find that Miceli's still has the charm, fun atmosphere and delicious food we have grown fond of. The piano player kept the mood lively and we were treated to several renditions of Broadway favorites by the singing staff. Rob, our server greeted us like family and understanding our time constraints placed and served our order promptly. We loved the Misto Antipasto, Lasagna and the Chicken Marinara. Weekdays skip the Valet and use metered street parking. Reservations on the weekend are a must and if you must wait ,Miceli's has a full bar with seating.

Never had been here before but simply outstanding. Food was great. Clam linguini was loaded with clams. Desert was great. The interior is like a movie set, just charming. Waiters very attentive. Best of all they are all very talented singers who are backed up by a great pianist and a drummer. Great food, good price and just fun as the singers walk through the tables.

Fun - Must Go

By Kathy R |

This is an Old School Italian Family Restaurant. I have gone to Miceli's for probably 60 years from the time I was very small. The pizza and pasta are good and there is entertainment via singing waiters. It's a great place to go for a family or for a celebration. Reservations are a must. Love the old style Parmesan.

Singing waiters and delicious food.

By David E |

This place is not only delicious, but a Los Angeles landmark. It is not just good food it is an immersive experience. We had fantastic waiters both times we went. And there is no wrong thing to order. The pizzas good. The pastas good. The cocktails are good. We always like to visit when we're in town!

Food and live entertainment

Miceli’s is a gem of a restaurant in the commercialized area of Studio City. Walk in and you are back in the Los Angeles of the 40’s. Food is fantastic. Servers are fun, attentive and provide live entertainment to boot. Relax and have some of the best Italian Food in L.A. Highly recommend the Pizza and lasagna.

Birthday dinner

Fun place to enjoy entertainment. Noisy if you want to have a conversation. Food just ok. Friendly staff, amongst them some very goo singers. All 17 of us had fun!

Yuck

By Goldie C |

This looked like a really good choice and fun atmosphere. It really is a fun atmosphere! So maybe if you only want to drink wine and visit with friends, you should have fun. The food was horrible! The sauce was bitter. The pizza horrible. Just really nothing good to say about the food. The Wait staff just so so. Maybe we just came on an off day!!!!

Go for the experience, not the food

By Jordanswc |

While the food is subpar at this LA institution, the experience pretty much makes up for it. The singing servers are very entertaining and talented and the atmosphere is quite charming. It is a good choice for families as there is lots to look at and keep kids entertained. The food was not very good across the board, with the exception of the delicious (but extremely filling) buns.

Great classic place!

Great hollywood neighborhood that you do not want to miss! Great bar but the Classic Italian fate is as classic as the location!

Wonderful Singing Waiters- Awful Food

By Richard E |

We were charmed by the festive Italian mood and decor along with very personable servers belting out old hits that everyone loved. We came for a special family birthday celebration and the delicious Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon wine and music aside, the actual meal was dreadful. Bland Caesar salad, Chicken Parmigiana was hard and tasted like it was previously frozen from a box and reheated, Lasagne was dry with awful dark red clumps of marinara sauce, as was the children’s spaghetti with this vile version of tomato sauce. No one finished their meal and thank God for the Spumoni ice cream to cleanse the palate, because the Tira Misu dessert that we ordered bore no relationship to actual Tira Misu cake, instead was like a creamy soup! We would never return and can’t understand why anyone would enjoy this low caliber Italian menu.

Awful

By DarrenFitz |

Horrible food. Not at all like the Italian we get at home in Australia. We ordered the antipasti platter for entree and it was like eating a platter of mystery meat and lettuce. Definitely wouldn't return.

Fun. I would definitely go back.

By Kelly E |

It was a really fun place to eat. We loved the singing. If I'm ever in that area I will go to Micelis again

Good food and great entertainment

By buffalojim67 |

If you are looking for very good Italian food in an attractive setting with professional singers providing your service, then this is the place. You might even see some celebrities at nearby tables. If it is a significant date you might expect a wait but it is worth it.

Perfect pizza’s

By Newmummy |

Finding somewhere a bit different with teens in LA was tricky - luckily this place ticked the boxes with their singing staff. Pizza’s were delicious!! Not the nicest area but take a chance and step through those doors!

Terrific Pizza and Professional Entertainment (from the Wait Staff)!

By GaryReg |

After we came down off a drive on Laurel Canyon and Mullholland, on the mountain, we arrived at the Universal City garage and found out the parking would be $10 cheaper if we waited 15 minutes. I suggested we go for a drink (no suprise) and we found this really neat restaurant called Miceli’s Italian on Cahuenga Boulevard “Co-ang-a” Blvd. After we ordering wine, Chianti for me, Primitivo for my Sweetie we decided to have something to eat there because the waitress began singing with a professional vocal range after the piano player and drummer had started playing. The restaurant was decorated like a classic Italian restaurant in New York City, probably very much like the one that Eastside Mario’s, in Canada, copied for their format. In a little while another waiter stated singing as well. It turned out they were all professional singers and actors who are working there to pay the rent. We had a 4 topping pizza, with bacon, mushrooms, olives & chopped clams! We also decided to share a Caesar salad. We ordered the small one and when they brought it we thought they must’ve made a mistake and brought the large one, but they didn’t; It was their Small! Both the pizza and the salad were delicious and we ended up taking half of it home to eat later when we got back to the hotel. The meal was $61us/ $84Can w Tip & Tax (for 2) and wine was $7us/ $10Can per glass. Highly recommended!

Delectably superb traditional Italian food in authentic surroundings

By Deb B |

It was the last day of our trip and I had a hankering for Italian food. We drove by Miceli's and decided to give it a try. We were so not sorry! Everything was mouth wateringly delicious - possibly the BEST italian food I've ever had. The staff looked after us so well, even telling us where to park our car to avoid a parking ticket. Joe really looked after us. You so have to try this place. You'll never forget the wonderful food and the unique decore. I'll go back. Absolutely outstanding!

Great food, wonderful atmosphere

By bppiatek |

Miceli's Restaurant is a very welcoming restaurant with great food! We had vegetable primavera and fettuccine carbons and both were delicious. I substituted a cream sauce for the marinara on the vegetable primavera which then came out perfectly. The vegetables were steamed just right and were able to stand up to the sauce without becoming limp. Carbonara seems hard to find, but is very good at Miceli's. We met Joe Miceli today - he has personally managed this restaurant since 1984. The other restaurant in Hollywood has been there since 1949! Both offer the same excellent food and service! Today, they had a pianist and drummer to entertain us and the waiters and waitresses took turns singing tunes as they had time between tables. It was great! We will be back!

MUSIC IN THE EVENINGS AND GOOD AMBIANCE

By scottySC |

We go here often to be entertained and enjoy the food as well. Favorite choices are large salads with a choice of pasta dishes. If you are celebrating a birthday let them know--quite a fine fanfare of talented employees to sing and serve a dessert,

Absolutely the best

By AR128 |

The atmosphere and service is excellent. Good size portions and delicious food, first bite reminded me of Italy which tells me someone's Nonna must be in the kitchen because it was so tasty. Would definitely eat here again if back in LA.

Very friendly and nice atmosphere

By George N |

Pricey but service comes with song and wine. Was very impressed with the singing. I met the owner of the place and everyone I met was great.

Fun, but the food is not

By johnbY4985XX |

Great place for entertainment and people watching but the food is seriously lacking. On par with college cafeterias. Deserts are OK, otherwise I would pass.

Live Broadway Singing

By Susan B |

What's amazing? Live Broadway music and singing by the staff. Our reservation was for 6:30pm, and wouldn't you know it? We arrived an hour early. The front desk host, sat us in anyway. Now, wasn't that hospitable? The food were authentic Italian and they were deliciously priced well; not putting a hole in your pocketbooks. And the servers were on top of it. When you need something, they were there. Super Kool!!! One of the bucket list. We are definitely coming back, baby!

Great Italian food at a great price, and you might see an actor

By ronmiller0032 |

Everytime we stay at the Hilton across the freeway we always visits Miceli's as the atmosphere is great in the evening with the nightly live music which is usually pretty good. If you drink wine get the bottle that you can right on after your finished with it so you can write a message and they will hang it there around the booths, tables and walls as there is quite a collection through the years. The food and service is superb and the Lasagna is to die for and remember to get a meatball on the side (big). My kids love the pizza and Ceasar salad. Highly recommend to stop in if you are in Universal City

Talented staff with mediocre food

By Ben K |

This place is a lot of fun. A lot of very talented waiters/waitresses who can sing. There is entertainment throughout the meal. The food, however, was not very good. The Ravioli and Meatsauce was worse than I can make at home. I would have gladly saved $30 and made myself a better meal. The best part of the meal, food-wise, was the free bread they put on the table to start the meal. With so many options, especially providing live entertainment, I'm not sure I'd necessarily go back the Miceli's.

Bread Peddler gets a date!

By BeerBreadPeddler |

So...this is a little late, but I didn't want to miss the chance to review a restaurant that is so near and dear to my heart. Last November my boyfriend invited me to visit him in L.A. (At that time we were just friends) So...I packed my suitcase and flew there...all the way from Iowa! I remember a few days before heading out, he mentioned that he was going to take me to a restaurant that he had been going to since he was a child. At four years old, he decided and then told his family, when the day came that he would propose to his future wife at Miceli's! Jeepers, I thought...I know I'm awesome but you don't have to propose yet😊 To make a long story a little less long, he took me to Miceli's for our first date! I was in LOOOOVE...with Miceli's. I couldn't get over how awesome that atmosphere turned out to be. People even sing to you at your table! AND THEN CAME THE FOOD! First the rolls...Aaaaamazing! I had the creamy pesto pasta...I am still craving it and I still ask my boyfriend to bring me an order any time he comes to Iowa! Things are going great with the boyfriend and hopefully, we get to visit Miceli's again soon...perhaps, for our anniversary? And maybe even someday he can fulfill his four-year old dream of asking for a fine lady's hand in marriage at this magnificently charming restaurant. I hope that fine lady is me, but if it doesn't work out...she better say yes!

So glad we came here.

We didn't know what to expect when we walked up the front steps, but we were very pleasantly surprised and pleased with our visit. The food was good, and the atmosphere was wonderful, and then you bring on the (friendly) singing wait staff and our evening was made. Great time for our family.
