Goodfather's fauvorite

By rulldemolins |

Local is epic, you can easy tell why it was hollywood's fauvorite for decades (also Musso & Frank Grill). Great mix american+italian atmosphere, just like in Goodfather. Food is nice but don't expect the best pizza/pasta that you'd ever eat. However, it's worth visiting and enjoy a lunch. I recommend to order Miceli's special pizza + appetizer, ideal for 2 people to share.

Uninspiring meal

By PepperNewJersey |

With its interesting decor and its claim that it is operated since 1949, we decided to take a chance at this restaurant. Coming from the New York area, we were expecting good, authentic Italian cuisine. What a disappointment!!! Nothing prepared us for the lack of taste in our meal. The pizza was horrible and the appetizer was greasy. This restaurant definitely needs to improve their kitchen!

Not very italian

By Benjamin |

We wanted to have lunch. The restaurant appeard to be close but was open. The waiter was friendly and we got our drinks quick. Also the food waitingtime was okay. Unfortunately the food wasnt really authentic. The pesto was with alot of heavycream and the pizza dough smelled extremly sweet.

Good food and service

By finsterErie_PA |

We went on another recommendation from local vendor and hit a home run again! Miceli's is touted as the oldest Italian restaurant in LA. We made them prove it and had the chance to speak with the owner Frank a son of one of the original owners. Frank was so generous and gracious with his time in giving us a nice history of the eatery where it started back in the 40's. Our sever Ariel was friendly attentive and professional. I has the fettuccine carbonara. Yummy!!! We completed the evening with a picture with Brian piano man. Yes they play seven days a week. Enjoy!!

Disappointing

By Fran C |

Our hotel recommended this restaurant, telling us they have singing waiters. It is also in their advertisement. We thought it would be fun so we decided to try it. We were seated quickly, so we were off to a good start. When our waiter arrived, he seemed very disappointed that we didn't order alcohol. From that point on, his service was very brusqe. The food was actually pretty good, but the service was so disappointing. And we never witnessed anyone singing. The restaurant is old and dark, and it could use some updating. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Last night I’m Hollywood

By Tim W |

We are glad we found this on our last night. We did a u turn and found this restaurant as someone was putting windows through on Hollywood Boulevard Lovely and quaint restaurant. We had the breaded veal and clam linguine with lots and lots of clams in. All very tasty and relaxed atmosphere. Thanks

Food underwhelming and pricy

By NC traveler |

We decided to listen to the "oldest restaurant in LA", where the Rat Pack used to hang out. .... Well ... it was dark and smelled really old. The food was severely overpriced and really underwhelming. The scampi was cold, shrimp was so overcooked it was inedible and it was cold, barely any sauce at all. 5 shrimp for the plate. Half the order was wrong, food was cold, the service was ... I think weird might be the word, everyone looked to be floating - anyway, bad and very expensive experience. Told the waiter what was wrong and he said "oh", not even a hint of an apology for anything. Do not recommend at all.

Great Italian Place!

By Mamjensen |

We had a great dinner here with two of our adult kids. The service was excellent and we really enjoyed the piano player. The food was excellent as well. I had the classic lasagna which was great. The “pizza platter” dessert was very good as well. Thumbs up!

Just Awful… stay away

By 2Yummy4U |

First, the one positive note. Our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful. However, this was undoubtedly the worst Italian meal of long life. The seats were old booths whose seat stuffing had completely collapsed, making them extremely uncomfortable. This was just the start. When the bread service arrived, I knew that we were in for a bad night. These were small, soft pre-frozen-style tiny oven dinner rolls. Not the crunchy Italian bread that I had expected. Then the antipasto…. Broken pieces of iceberg lettuce with a few Italian-like tidbits. The poorest example of an antipasto that I have ever experienced. We had their signature Lasagna… served cold and meager… completely lacking style and flavor. All dishes came too soon… shortly after the antipasto arrived which we were sharing. Then the Linguini Pescador: this was the greatest disappointment. The white wine sauce was tasteless… and you had to search for the “Pescador”…. Chopped clams appearing straight from the can, a few of the smallest clams… the size of your thumb… the fish was nonexistent. Anyway, if you are looking for tourist trap, look no further. Steve

Fun Old School Italian Restaurant

By Tracey R |

Walking into this restaurant in the middle of crazy Hollywood just takes you back instantly in time and the ambiance will relax you. There are Chianti bottles hanging from the ceiling, and a slightly out of tune piano being played by an exuberant pianist. The servers sang with the pianist throughout our meal. We all enjoyed our traditional Italian meals, like chicken lasagna and veal parmesan. I loved my chicken piccata-just delightful. Be sure to make reservations! Could be good for large parties. Prices were reasonable for Hollywood. Highly recommend this restaurant if you want a no nonsense, delicious meal.

This restaurant is a GEM

By Cathy C |

That’s what my 14 year old granddaughter said after our family of 10 enjoyed the best Italian food we’ve had with fun and attentive service. Old style ambiance including live music from the piano. The amazing part-we just opened the door and asked- do you have room for a party of 10- they said give us 5 minutes. WOW- they fit us in to their busy space!

THE FOOD IS EVEN BETTER THAN ITS REPUTATION

By Tony H |

From the moment we entered Miceli's, we felt like family. The lady seating us was very warm and kind. The waiter was the personification of professionalism in every way. The food was perfect. What else could one want? The piano player was a gasser.

Early dinner

By Hendersoned |

Very cool interior, outside is nothing special. The chicken Marsala was sweeter then normal for me, tasty sauce. We got a meatball as an appetizer it was awesome!! Now the bad news, pizza was not very good, the crust was like cardboard. We had sausage and onions on the pizza, that part was good, crust, not so much. They have Pepsi products, I prefer Coke.

Lovely little spot

By ChrissySparks |

Very cosy and atmospheric. Great food, good service, and the pianist was incredible! Interesting decor! I would recommend this for couples or friends 👍

A Hollywood classic 🤩

By Fred_GourmetAventurier |

Italian restaurant a stone's throw from Hollywood Boulevard. A pianist plays and the waiters sing classics. Guaranteed atmosphere. You absolutely have to make the detour!

Superb!

By m4slcsam |

This place is an absolute delight. The food was lovely. Not the best gnocchi as it wasnt home made and fresh it was fairly dense. However gnocchi wasnt on the menu. But when I told our beautiful server Sara that I had my heart set on gnocchi it happened. Chose my own sauce too! Meat pizza- delicious. Fettuccini Carbonara- very nice. Parmi- delightful. Tiramisu again not authentic, very custardy and no coffee taste but nice. My Irish coffee was my only disappointment but then I haven't had a decent coffee since arriving. Our server Sara was superb. The staff here are multi talented. The pianist plays constantly through the evening with everyone singing along. The staff take their turn on singing with him. This is a truly splendid evening. I'm so glad we stumbled across it! I couldn't recommend it enough for any aged. My 15 and 18 year olds loved it as much as we did.

Great Food and Atmosphere!

By jesse.lodge |

While visiting Hollywood my family and I came upon this place by accident and really enjoyed their Italian food. The interior is really interesting as well and dark lighting so the mood is really cool here. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone of all ages.

Very disappointing

By ek |

Awful, looked busy so I thought the food will be amazing here. Unfortunately the pizza was like a frozen oven pizza rock hard base was not an Italian pizza at all! The order Came wrong as well. Had to wait for another which was disappointing again! We told the waitress she accepted and apologised she had taken it off the bill which was a good thing.

Excellent food and service

By Spaceman Spiff |

Great Italian place with great food and service. They even have live entertainment. A piano player with a lot of personality. Very entertaining. Defiantly recommend.

Still Good After All These Years

By TravelinMan678 |

Last time I was there about 7 years ago, I had to return. Great food. I had the veal parm dinner. Garlic bread was good too. Brought my friends there for the first time and they really liked it. You may recognize the inside as it's been used in a few movies and TV shows. I didn't really need lunch reservations but made them anyway. Located just steps off Hollywood Blvd a few blocks from the Dolby Theater.

Great Italian Food

By Audrea S |

My daughter and I wanted some good Italian food and this place did not disappoint. We started with the Calamari. I ordered the cannelloni made with sausage and she ordered the chicken cannelloni. Both were delicious. I must say that the garlic bread was the best item of all.

Love atmosphere and Lasagna

By Hallscotta |

We have been here several times while visiting Hollywood. It's always on our list of things to do when we are in LA. One of my sons got a chicken pizza...he loved it..very large portion even though he only got a small. My husband and I always get Angie's lasagna...delicious. Wonderful bread. Their service is excellent and friendly. Reasonable priced menu. This place also has an old Hollywood charm and has been featured in several films. It's a must if you love Italian food.

Worst meal in LA

By 9244DB |

Went tonight for dinner with my husband and two kids (teenagers). Total crap was the only word. Soggy yucky pizzas for my kids and the worst pasta dishes ever were plonked in front of us. My lasagne was burnt into the dish and like plasticine. Instead of an explanation, I was just told it would be removed from the bill. This place needs #ChefRamsay to shut it down and put them all out of their misery! Don’t even get me started on the singing!!!

Hollywood History With Extra Cheese - And A Song In My Heart

By DL390 |

I’m such a creature of habit. An avid student of old-time Hollywood, there are a couple of places I try to visit whenever I’m in town and Miceli’s is one of them. It’s been around since the late 1940s and some of the furniture even earlier – the ornately-carved wooden booths came from the Pig N’Whistle, that opened at the front of the Egyptian Theatre in 1927. So, we’ve established its historic pedigree, how about the food? For me, it’s great. And although there’s plenty on the menu that interests me, I usually order the spaghetti with meatballs (I swear I do have a sense of adventure, really I do). In the evening, if you sit on the upper level, there’s often a combo of young musicians working their way through the Great American Songbook; they seem to know a lot of the diners so I can only assume Miceli’s has a solid core of regular – aside from this Hollywood history-obsessed Australian, of course.

Beautiful venue, bad food

By Eleanor c |

The venue was lovely. Great atmosphere loved the piano player and singers. Very authentic feel to the place. Me and my boyfriend ordered two pasta dishes, chicken liver and bolognese and were both so disappointed. The bolognese cost $15 which is just ridiculous for what i received, which was a bland sauce on a heap of spaghetti, it just tasted so cheap. Same with my boyfriends liver pasta, we could have made better at Home. We also had to wait ages to get served, the waitress took people's orders who had come in much later than us first

Service Bad food Bad

By Anne B |

I am 100 percent Italian and was looking forward to good quality homemade Italian food. Well not here. The hostess gave us stink eye from the moment we arrived until we left. The salad was mostly non nutritional ice burg lettuce. Ordered their famous lasagna it was one big blob. Bread was hard. Bad service and the worst part was they brought the credit card machine to the table and the waiter said do you want to leave a tip as he stood over me with the credit card machine. Will never go back.

Interesting Ambiance, Large Portions

By themolitors |

We went to Miceli's as a result of our first choice being closed for a private function. The interior of the restaurant is quite dark with evidence on the ceiling that many bottles of chianti have been consumed over the years. We were seated upstairs promptly (mid-week, 8PM, restaurant not at capacity) near the piano. We ordered appetizers and pasta plates and just the appetizers themselves would have satisfied our appetites. The melon and prosciutto was good with the fruit being fresh. I always order lasagna the first time I'm at a new Italian restaurant to see if they can get it right. Miceli's version was a bit better than average but not that special. It was very substantial. If we weren't traveling a doggy-bag would have been a good idea. The evening's entertainment was very interesting. Shortly after we walked in a very stooped-over elderly woman walked past our table. We thought at first we might be getting hit up by a homeless person but instead she made her way to the piano and started ripping into the keys. Our waitress even added a couple of songs. Just goes to show, looks can be misleading. I like the idea of a family-owned restaurant in this part of Hollywood. Just wish the food were a little better.

Great Find in Hollywood!

By Andy B |

My family was walking Hollywood Blvd. looking for a unique/vintage place for dinner. We stumbled across Miceli's and are glad we did. This restaurant has been family owned and operated for 70 years. The atmosphere is unbelievable. The food and service was fantastic. They have their own in house wine; fantastic soups; homemade salad dressing; fresh baked bread; family recipe entees, and homemade gelato. It will be a must stop for us next time we are in the area.

Lasagna was Amaze

By Frankie |

We had the lasagna with meat sauce, HUGE portion. Their pizza was yummy too, thinner crust and a lot of cheese. The decor is funky Italian, lots of stained glass. Great bar and the staff is excellent.

We loved it!!

By WBJM2009 |

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal! Friendly and attentive staff - so great with our kids. Food was good, live piano was an added touch. Proof of vaccination was required to enter for the adults.

Decent food

By Jennifer S |

The piano player was amazing - she seemed to never take a break. Unfortunately there wasn't much singing. Maybe they only sing a lot on certain days?? The food was good, nothing outstanding, but not bad either. But the service was just not there. The hostess had to come assist so perhaps they were short-handed??? It took a long time to get our order taken, and to bring the check. The staff was very nice and the hanging bottles from the ceiling give it a unique charm. It was a Sunday evening and the place was 3/4 full.

Mediocre food

By Fernando S |

Nice atmosphere, with live music. Waitress was nice and attentive. Food…… was not good. Probably the worst fettuccini carbonara I have ever had. Not recommended. Not going back

Traditional Italian cuisine

By Mike E |

Found this authentic family italian restaurant by chance one night off Hollywood boulevard. Friendly staff, good old fashioned service.Excellent food, pizzas, pastas, good selection of wines & beers.tradditional Italian decor made for a memorable evening.Good value for money

Great Ambiance. Terrible Food.

By WFR |

The only Italian thing about this place is the name. It is great ambiance in a cozy setting. The food leaves tons to be desired. I ordered the steamed clams and the waitress might have understood “steamed garlic”; I was served some chewy clams hidden under mountains of raw chopped garlic and an insipid, soupy tomato “sauce”. The tiramisu was like a soup made with cream and sugar, nothing to do with the real thing.

Great singing and the food is not half bad

By Gustaaf W |

Hollywood’s oldest Italian restaurant is well worth a visit. The waiters do marvelous songs ranging from opera to Hollywood classics. Lots of great classic Italian dishes. Let’s face it if you can survive in Hollywood for almost 70 years you are doing something right.

A good experience.

By John and Sarah S |

The overall atmosphere, the exterior with the old brick and signage, the interior with the carved wood beams and booths, the patina, with the live piano music and live vocals give this joint a nice old-time feel. The wait staff was friendly and efficient. The menu was varied. The food was very good.

Atmospheric

By Tina P |

What a delightful surprise this place is! Food fab, staff great, live music quirky and lovely! Best of all the atmosphere!!! Great place to go as a couple or family or with friends! We saw all of the above!

Very nice meal in Hollywood

By mrnugget |

Son and I were walking along Hollywood Blvd on a Saturday night looking for a decent place to have dinner when we noticed the sign pointing down a side street and thought we'd check it out. It looked fine to us so we were seated. We both enjoyed a lovely meal. He had veal parm; I had a garden salad and the Chicken Piccanti. Both were very good. Combined with the pianist and occasional signing waitstaff and a few beers, it was a pleasant evening.

Great Hollywood Blvd, Restaurant

By twinkiefisher |

We stopped here after watching a movie at the El Capitan theater just around the corner. This is a fun restaurant with rustic decor and great singing servers. The highlight of the place is the food with an extensive menu of wonderful Italian dishes. We had the house beef lasagne and were rewarded with a fantastic dish with the best rich sauce I've ever had. Fast service, efficient & friendly servers. We will be retuning. An added bonus is a parking lot a few doors away.

Italian lunch in Hollywood

By Khaled AlDabaein |

We came in for lunch and ordered two plates and a starter the calamari was delicious and the shrimp linguini was tasty the red sauce is amazing I loved it so much highly recommend

Nice old school vibe but food is just average

By jerjon |

A group of us went for lunch. Service was good (restaurant was not very busy) and there are a lot of choices on the menu. Three of us ordered veal dishes; all of them were very tough and not the tender meat you think of when you want veal (yes, I know-don't hate me for eating veal). The house Chianti was good. We left feeling a bit disapointed.

Walk of fame tourists

By Gbpeachmom |

Had fettuccini Alfredo . Wonderful. Sis got caeser salad with baby shrimp. Excellent too. Tiramisu made on premises. Still dreaming about it! Waiters get up and dig while not waiting on tables . Sinatra was a regular here. Loved it!

Extraordinary food with old world charm

By Patrick D |

Great food and reasonable prices , especially by Hollywood standards. Our waitress, Juliana, was attentive and personable with a great voice . The wait staff sing . A fine meal and fun experience.

Old Family Italian

By geterd0ne |

Great location, well thought decor, friendly service and the singing waiter / piano player is a cute gimmick. While the food quality is a little on the disappointing side, the old standards are easy to go with and the vegetarian options are actually plentiful. Perfect place to grab food before heading up to the Bowl for a show.

Yummy Italian!!

By melanieanndluke |

This place by far had the best Italian we’ve ever had! We walked in not expecting much because it wasn’t too busy, but to our surprise, everything we ordered was soooo good. I got the traditional lasagna, and it was perfectly made. taste, consistency, layers, everything. Best Lasagna which is a bold statement lol. My other half got the Chicken Parmesan and also the best chicken parm he’s ever had. Chicken wasn’t dry, everything was delicious. we also got Garlic Cheese bread which is always a great addition to your italian meal, but this bread was soft and crispy. Finally you NEEEED to try the Macadamia Nut Cookie with Vanilla icecream on top. Easily top 5 of best desserts i’ve ever had. also a very bold statement lol. Everything was great! Definitely will be back

Goodfellas meets Fawlty Towers

By samnella |

We rocked up to the 'oldest Italian restaurant in LA' with great expectations after a day exploring the Strip, Beverly Hills and Bel Air and on something of a high. We weren't quite prepared for such a comedown though. The Place certainly has a vibe but it's like a cross between Goodfellas and Fawlty Towers. The food was underwhelming, the entertainment overwhelmingly bad and the service, literally 'shaky'. I was hoping we might cross paths with Scorsese or Coppola but they are clearly 'wise guys' and give the place a wide berth. Despite this I kind of enjoyed the shabby charm of the place but wouldn't really recommend it

Great Pizza Dive

By dwfilice |

What a classic hole-in-the wall old-school pizza place. Chianti bottles hang from every rafter. Pizza is good, did not have anything else. Only gripe is parking. Only place to park is lot next door...$15.00 in advance and they give you $5.00 back if your restaurant stay is 2hrs or less. Good luck. I think Miceli's must be part owner of the lot cause it takes forever to get your order figured out and at least 30 min to get your bill. Plan on the full $15 for parking.

Fun atmosphere and good food

By Joy M |

Super convenient location just off the Hollywood walk of fame. Live piano and singers - usually a various rotation of waiters! Very classic old school Italian vibe inside and our food was very good. Linguine with clams, cannelloni and chicken Parmesan were all happily devoured. The bread rolls were a little boring for my taste but were hot and fresh, so not bad. Fine to come in casually dressed after a day of site seeing btw.

Nice little calm oasis.

By Stephen H |

Fantastic little find just off the Blvd, not many proper sit in Italian restaurants to find. Many fast food by the slice but few sit in restaurants, staff super officiant and friendly. Live piano music to accompany your meal. Wee oasis amoungst all the LA madness.

Patricia

By kmethvin |

Would visit again just to listen to Patricia play the piano. She was amazing. Show tunes galore. When she played the theme from the Godfather, it brought tears to my eyes. Looking at her, small, frail, etc you wouldn't think she'd have it in her. There was one waiter that sand one song but the piano was perfect. The food was only so, so. I had the lasagna and the edges were over cooked. The place was a little pricey but it was for the atmosphere. There were signs everywhere asking for no cell phones or pictures. Right off Hollywood Blvd.

Always a fun place to eat while in LA!

By Cecelia H |

I wouldn't miss having dinner in this place on every trip to LA. It's a great spot for dinner after watching a live studio taping and the timing is perfect. Love the old Hollywood atmosphere and the Italian food and wine is good. Piano music a plus! Also, the restaurant is walking distance to all the Hollywood attractions and main hotels.

hollywood lunch

By nickpark1970 |

Treated family for lunch at this wonderful time capsule!...wow walked into restaurant is like walking back in history, it has been here I believe since the 1940s. Lots of character , great service and the Pizza was great!.......regardless of the other negative reviews I give it 4 stars!.......would of been 5 stars but the pizza took forever!

Frozen in time retro Hollywood restaurant. Try something besides the pizza.

By Glenmore W |

Cute little restaurant with old timey charm, gracious host and service. I can only comment on the one thing we ate here so your experience will certainly vary. If you like your pizza with a delicious airy chewy crust, don't order a pizza here. They use some sort of biscuit like dough and it is too heavy for pizza. They use the same dough in the dinner rolls which are complimentary. Sauce and toppings were fine, they just need to get that crust down.

Inconspicuous Gem near Hollywood walk of fame

By marilynegeiger |

We almost passed this one by but man were we happy we didn’t! Totally old school Italian atmosphere with a splash of Hollywood Glam! Incredible pianist Patricia Harrold and our amazing singing waiter totally made our first night in Hollywood a memorable experience. I’ve had better Italian for sure, but not a rival in sight for atmosphere.

iconic address

By globtrotteuse |

An iconic address that offers quality dishes in a family and warm atmosphere. We're going into legend.

A wonderful restaurant made extra special by singing waiters

By margiedrew aka Chris |

We visited with our daughter, son-in-law & two granddaughters aged 3 & 7 months. All of the staff were lovely and extremely helpful and paid great attention to our granddaughters. The food was excellent and served quickly and nothing was too much trouble. The quality of the singing and the selection of songs was perfect. A must visit restaurant if you are in Hollywood.

This place has the worst manager

By Robert L |

This is a charming restaurant with a manager, Frank, who is really bad. He was insulting to my guest, beligerent and accusatory. Did I say my guest interacts with tourists and recommends hundreds every year? This guy is going to cost the restaurant so much business. Can you only imagine how they will treat you? I would stay well away until the owner catches on that they hired a bad apple and gets rid of the guy. There are many gòod restaurants nearby.....try someplace else and avoid the hassle.

Great Italian Restaurant in Hollywood

By L D |

We were in Hollywood for meetings and kind of just happened upon this place 1/2 block off of Hollywood Blvd. it was terrific. Old ambience with a piano player, excellent service, and authentic Italian food. My wife and I split the Lasagna, with a meatball. The pasta was homemade and there was plenty of meat and cheese. It was all we could eat, even sharing. Prices are very reasonable. Highly recommended. (I rarely give five stars to any place).

Great find in Hollywood

By Kim J |

We were actually going to a different restaurant but when we got there it was closed for a private party. We were checking the restaurant in the area & they were all empty so we didn't think that was a good sign. We saw the sign for Miceli's down a side road & thought we would check it out. When we opened the open the smells from the restaurant were awesome. The restaurant has a very cool decor - almost like the inside of an old ship. As a bonus, they had a piano player so we got a table near the piano player. We ordered a pizza with a few beers. The pizza was tasty, the beers were inexpensive, and the piano player was entertaining. I would highly recommend Miceli's!

A MUST VISIT

By NilouferD / Ellaeenah |

Read the great reviews and decided to go for dinner. And so glad that we did! The decor is superb, the authentic Italian food is oh so good, the service is excellent , and the live music ( a pianist and a few songs sung so well by the servers themselves!) all contributes to a wonderful evening at LA’s oldest Italian restaurant. BTW cellphones at the table are strictly discouraged. Wish more restaurants would do the same.

The way Italian food should be

By Flyby0161 |

Wonderful restaurant that dates back to 1949 - it's always crowded for a reason, it's good. Classic older setting with fresh options that make it a worthy place. For those within the Hollywood Blvd area - this is a classic must.

Restaurant

By Jenni F |

Delicious italian food with singing waiters to keep you smiling and entertained. And a very unique old world charm

Fabulous

By Liz H |

This was the highlight of our trip to LA ! We loved the delicious pizza , and the service was amazing. Best of all was the pianist Patricia Harrold, who has played there since 1975. A genius, plays with perfection every wonderful song you can think of ! And the waiter sung a few songs while she played , amazing voice !! True taste of Hollywood talent ! A fantastic experience!

A great disappointment

By Dave M |

We visited this restaurant on a recommendation of our city tour guide so was looking to it got there guite easily off the beaten track a bit but got inside looked beautiful bottles of wine hanging from the ceiling piano player excentric but interesting that's where it went downhill we ordered garlic bread but was a big lump of bread with cheese on it we ordered the Lasagne which was supposed to be a old recipe but was very disappointed with it as it was covered in tomato sauce and tasted rather bland so we left guite early

Best restaurant i found on Hollywood boulevard in my 2 days there

By Innino1 |

Nice quiet restaurant with good Italian food, nice service. They are also strict on the vivid rules so it’s was a very reassuring experience. If you are up for Italian you will leave satisfied

Pricey

By auntylene |

We went here for our last night in Hollywood. It was expensive and 3 out of 4 of us were disappointed with our meals. They brought hot rolls when we sat down but they were so tough none of us could chew them. The Chicken Marsala was smothered in mushrooms which were good but the chicken was tasteless. Tiny bit of spaghetti on a side plate and the sauce was ok. Had the tiramisu which was tasty. All in all too expensive for what we got.

Good (not great) food, fun atmosphere, slow service

By towniemel |

Ate here with my teenage daughter on a Sunday night. The atmosphere is charming, very old-school Italian (Americanized!) I had spinach lasagna with a meatball side and Ceasar salad, my daughter had pepperoni pizza, and we shared chocolate cake. The pizza was good, the lasagna was decent, though overly sauced (that's about all I could taste), the salad was fine, the cake was good. It was reasonably priced. It was fun with the piano playing, the singing waitress, etc. We agreed that we would probably eat here frequently if it was located in our home town because it's charming, decent food, reasonably priced, with an extensive menu. The service was a bit slow, especially waiting to get our check, but we still enjoyed the experience. Don't go here for gourmet food, go for its charm.

Very atmospheric restaurant, but with tasteless meals

By Anton Mardvinau |

The restaurant in very nice, located in the very heart of Los-Angeles, close to Hollywood Boulevard. The service and interior are just perfect. The most unique thing about this restaurant is that every person working there (waiters, bartenders, hostess and etc.) make some musical performances during the night - either sing, or play some musical instrument or do some other creative things. But the worst thing about the restaurant that the meals served there were just tasteless - I didn't like my lazagna at all, and pasta which my wife ordered was also rather mediocre.

A Gem

By pmagrann |

Great food...reasonably priced! Our waiter not only served us, but accompanied the piano player with his beautiful voice. The ambiance and charm only add to the beauty of this restaurant! I ordered the lasagna (so much I could not finish it) and my husband ordered the veal parmigiana; both were delicious and served with warm bread! Fantastic experience.

Great Dinner st a very interesting place

By georgefebish |

Thus is an old Italian restaurant. Old Chianti wine bottles gang from the ceiling. We had a great Caesar Salad, Brusetta, and shrimp and scallops cacciatore. The food was good but pasta was a little over done.

Amazing Food

By Mitch H |

I stopped in for lunch today and was extremely pleased with my food. It was my first time here, but not my last.

Lovely little spot

By glo s |

Found this place by mistake it's just off the main boulevard and I'm so glad we found it. Inside it's like being transported back in time but in a good way. The food was good as was the service, it's like a little oasis off the chaotic Hollywood boulevard, totally recommend this place.

FUN, FUN, FUN! FOOD IS OK TOO

By judysinger |

All right so here's the truth and nothing but the truth. Th food is really secondary to the experience. The amazing talent can distract you from the relatively mediocre food - but here THATS 100% OK. If you are ok with a pizza and a salad, you simply can't go wrong. The house wine is...so-so. The chicken cacciatore is, ok. The bread is pizza dough bread and DELICIOUS! Have tried a few things and none are bad, but frankly I really didn't care and although I love gourmet food, I truly love this little neighborhood joint because it is a great all around experience. The salad dressing is delicious and the pizza is just fine. The chicken dishes are a lot like home-cooked, if you're not a gourmet cook but like really basic food. Make sure you ask for the pasta al dente and then you'll have an AMAZING NIGHT. If you live in LA, try it and you'll fall in love. If you are from out of town, and love great music, this is a must!!! All the waiters sing and have OUTSTANDING voices. Personally I wonder why they are here and someone said that they do work professionally but get great leads here. Don't know anything about that. I just love to go to this place and have for many years. You really can't go wrong, and if you go during a weekend, I suggest you ask if they are having any big parties, because if the parties are really large, they are loud, and its a shame for the entertainment. There's NO other place that I personally know of in LA that is like this. Enjoy!

A must visit to Miceli’s when you are in Hollywood.

If you are in Hollywood, you must visit Miceli's just off Hollywood Blvd at Las Palmas. It has been an open since 1949. Great pasta dishes, (Love the Lasagna) and Pizza. Staff has always been great. Piano music in evenings with some of the staff singing. Full service bar. You must order a bottle of Chante Wine, and once finished, write a special message and have it hung in the restaurant. A must visit to Miceli’s when you are in Hollywood.

Mostly mediocre food

By J H |

My husband loves Italian (me, not so much). After perusing the menu, I decided on the chicken Marsala (after the waiter told me that one out of five veal dishes are returned). I also ordered the burrata, which was excellent but was missing the balsamic. The chicken Marsala was so sweet that it was inedible. The waiter brought it back and came back and said they added honey to it (who does that? it was not one of the listed ingredients). I ended up ordering pizza; the crust was tasteless. My husband said his chicken cacciatore was okay but our meal was not worth the $100 we paid (no alcohol). Our waiter may have been new as he was clueless as to the various ingredients.

Quirkly atmosphere, bad food, ok service

By Stephen D |

A tour guide recommended Miceli's a a Hollywood landmark. That is was, but the service just rated OK and the food at best was poor and expensive. I would not recommend this place.

All-around great experience

By Joseph Vanlon |

I’ve been visiting this restaurant for years and I don’t see myself ever stopping. I love this place, the food is great and the decor awesome. Some nights they even have musical entertainment. They have a pianist and a lot of the wait staff double as singers. They boast being the oldest Pizza place in Los Angeles and I believe it. Whether you are going for date night, trying to show some friends a good time, or just trying to get dinner and a show, this place is where you want to be.

No bueno

By ladod |

Had the carbonara, bland, no pancetta, used bacon instead. Chunks of onion. Very bland. Girlfriend got the spinach lasagna. Red Gravy was tasty. Atmosphere was decent, had piano playing. In and out in less than an hour. Food came almost ridiculously quick. Didn't eat even a quarter of my carbonara, no questions asked abt it, only if I wanted it packed up to go. I too am a server, but in vegas and never have I not followed up if someone doesn't eat there food to figure out what I can do to make it better. Literally no care at all. Just brought the check. CIAO!

Food after Universal

By Wyofarmer |

We were looking for a great sit down dinner after a long day. Hardly any wait, the atmosphere is old school. Food is amazing and help is friendly.

The servers sing!

By hanoibelle |

The food is good, old style Italian. Rich sauce, every kind of pasta imaginable. Delicious and plentiful. We enjoyed the chicken Marsala. What makes this place special is the music. Most servers are musically inclined and will take to the microphone if the evening allows. Our server was a classically trained opera singer. She delighted us all with several performances.

Somewhat slipping

By Flyby0161 |

Ok, maybe the COVID era has taken a temporary tole on this place. We had several dishes including veal parmigiana, nothing special and lacking in taste. This is was once a staple, one of the oldest Italian restaurants in Hollywood - it’s off...

Great rolls!

By SuZQ234 |

Very well located on the corner of Hollywood Blvd and Las Palmas. Old fashioned “Italian Restaurant “ decor. Very friendly service. The piping hot rolls were a nice way to start dinner. The food was delicious and large portions. Soda was almost as expensive as the beer.

HUGE disappointment

By AJ C |

Th concierge at Loew’s recommended this as the best Italian in the area.... bad on him. The food was poor, the pasta was so “out of a box” and cooked so al-dente that it crunched when I bit into it. I should have been suspicious when the waitress recommended chicken rather than veal. The waitress was very pleasant but the service was slow. If you want Italian in Hollywood you would be better off at California Pizza Kitchen

Fun atmosphere

By Laura T |

There is something so fun about eating with live piano music in the background. Great service in such a charmed filled place. Would recommend the lasagna and the ravioli. Good pricing for the area

Group Event - Failed Expectations

By Adam L |

This restaurant shows visitors that the worst assumptions about Los Angeles are true. Beautiful by design, but horribly managed. The wait staff does as best as they can with the overbearing money-hungry managers. Unreasonable and unwilling to hear reason, guests in our party were charged different prices for drinks according to how much our guest complained. Met with hostility at every turn, I will spend the rest of my days in Los Angeles making sure everyone is aware at how rude and terrible the service was.

Decor wonderful. Food bland at best.

By Andrea H |

I ordered the Chicken Lasagna and was disspointed with the liquidy consistency and lack of seasoning of the dish. The staff, kind and attentive as they were, offered to let me order something else. I then ordered a small pepperoni and mushroom pizza. I mean--how can you go wrong with that? Right? Well, that wasn't good either! If you are looking for good and savory Italian food, this place isn't it.

What a fab little place!

By Louise |

Dined here last night under the recommendation of our hotel, its such a hidden gem! Between us we had pizza and pasta dishes and no one was disappointed. A traditional america italian restaurant, live music and the staff taking it in turns to perform, would definitely recommend.

Nice atmosphere and location

By Katrac |

Located on a side road off Hollywood Blvd, this hidden gem serves delicious Italian food. I ordered the lasagna which was over-ample in size. The only less-than-perfect part of the meal was the waiter's lack of attention. He was quite elderly and moved slowly. We felt so sorry for him that we didn't even ask for refills of our water glasses whien they went unnoticed.

Third Time Visiting, Enjoyed it again!

By mmm10 |

Micelli's is slowly become a tradition for myself when I entertain family and friends in Hollywood. It is steps away from Hollywood and Highland and Graumann's Chinese Theater. Usually ,after we have walked around a bit, Micelli's is an easy choice when we are starving and don't want to walk to far (or drive and park again!). Besides being nearby, it is a part of old Hollywood. I love the interior and the menu has something for everyone. The garlic bread is a must. It is delicious. The lasagne and cheese ravioli have always been a favorite. During this visit, I ordered the linguini tossed with olive oil and garlic and added grilled shrimp to it. It was wonderful. The only disappointment we had was our pizza. It did not seem cooked long enough. Read up on the history of it before you go if you are interested in old Hollywood history.

They scam

By andrew |

They lie about that the tip is included in the final check. So when I went with friends and split the checks, the tip was included and I asked to the white waitress why and she just responded me with a bunch of bull sh***t that the machine doesn't recognises split checks.

Miceli's 70th Anniversary This Year - Italian Staple of Hollywood and Universal City

By EMFredric |

Miceli’s is celebrating its 70th Anniversary – straight from Frank Miceli’s mouth. He and his brother, Joe Miceli, have run both “stores” for decades. The Hollywood restaurant is my favorite with the bricks, wood and downstairs cellar with hanging wine bottles give the feel of a mix of Old Hollywood and Old Vegas – Rat Pack Style. The food is delicious and the service always good. The ambience is romantic, especially at night and always buzzing, frequently with celebrities who are long time patrons and friends to the Miceli family. I got to know Frank when my son I was signing my son up for Toluca Lake Baseball and as a ‘solo’ parent felt I couldn’t swing the fee after finding a place $40 cheaper. I left word to not cash my check and the minute I walked in the door I heard a message left: “Hi, this is Frank Miceli from Toluca Baseball and I was told to not cash your check. Which I won’t but your son belongs at Toluca Baseball so unless there’s some really good reason for him not to be here? I’ll see him on opening day.” I just sat down and cried at the kindness. That’s Frank Miceli and the feel of this restaurant. You’re family even when you don’t know them but you will by the time you leave. Frank used to have Christmas dinner for a group of families who had kids with cancer and closed the restaurant to the public. His energy is infectious, he’s the real deal and everyone knows him! He has been helping out coaching in baseball for so long that many boys and girls are parents with kids in college. He told me he saw a guy being handcuffed by the police once and he yelled out: “Hey, that’s Frank Miceli!” He’s funny, warm, self-deprecating and an incredible human being. I had dinner there recently and would recommend the angel hair version of the tomato, garlic, olive oil with chicken Vermiceli Pomodoro. I ate it all. My friend loved his chicken parmesan and we shared a cannoli with coffee ice cream. Everything was perfection. Frank happened to be there so I was able to chat with him for a moment and also tell my friend that any time I knew of a newer non-profit that needed food for fundraising – I would call and Frank’s answer was always – “How much pasta, rolls and salad do you need? Okay, have them pick it up and don’t forget the sauce.” When my son needed a place to have an art show (the theme was Cancer, Racism and Education to raise funds for college? Frank practically gave us the downstairs and pizza (the best) was on the menu. Dr. Ernie Bodai (pioneer of the Women’s Breast Cancer Stamp) and Louis Gossett Jr. (Eracism is his foundation) and then Sheriff Baca came by to give Sheriff Department certificates so we could thank various organizations who helped my son. The YMCA, Big Brother, Big Sisters, the hosts and more. Dylan created intricately layered and sprayed stencils for the show. Come visit both Italian stores - (Universal City has singing waiters at night) - you’re near the Chinese Theatre, unlimited shopping and sight-seeing and close to many theatres and comedy venues. Congratulations to the Miceli’s – may you keep on going! And Frank’s baseball field he helped build for low-income kids is now 15 years old! Thank you for being the fine eatery and the incredible people that you are! It’s the type of place you don’t want to leave unless your company is really bad.

Great food and entertainment too!

By JohnnyGWestport_CT |

We'd seen Miceli's on previous trips and this time decided to give them a try. It was a Saturday night and the parking was tricky but we found a spot on Ventura and after a short walk went up the steps and into a rollicking packed main dining room. A 20 minute wait was accomplished at the bar where bartender Brian poured inconsistent quantity's of wine (example, one glass was shorted as the bottle went dry. Brian ignored the short pour and walked away, charging us for a full pour). Our maitre was very genial and asked if we wished to be near the entertainment or quietly on an elevated side table. We took the entertainment and it was a wonderful choice as throughout the dinner service we were entertained with Broadway show tunes, Cole Porter and other standards by the wait staff, including our own table server. My shrimp scampi was outstanding! Over linguine in a wine and butter sauce super hot right out of the sou pan. Perfect tender large shrimp. My spouse's filet of sole as equally excellent. Huge quantity plus a side of pasta for the filet. Our server turned out to be a Broadway veteran with great tales of the Great White Way!

Past it's glory days

By wallyreidjr |

Going down hill at a rapid pace, from the inattentive bartender to the couple down a few seats at the bar, the guy was singing along with the piano player from his seat, zero interaction from any of the staff, always liked the lasagna, use to be good but was it baked? Don't think so warm not hot seemed to be microwaved, always amazed you can go thru a whole dinner with out any interaction from the bartender ( it wasn't busy) except asking her for the check, use to be a Hollywood standard but now just another restaurant in Hollywood

Quaint Awesome Tiered Resaturant with Piano

By Blackgorilla317 |

Went there hungry as for lunch. Food was great but the venue was even better. Pizza was decent and the veal parmigiana exceptional. Loved the layout and feel od the establishment. Would highly recommend.

Worst restaurant experience

By sam |

First and last time to go eat here, we had a pizza and it’s the worst pizza I’ve ever eaten. The pizza was full of garlic herbs and slices tomatoes, all I asked for is a simple margarita pizza. Don’t not have pizza from here. It’s such a lovely oldest restaurant but let down especially by the staff. I left half of my pizza paid my bill and just wanted to leave as I felt poorly. The server followed us to the door demanding a tip and asked if we didn’t like the service.

Worst meal of our 3 week trip !

By Chmhelene |

We had the worst meal of the holidays last night at this restaurant. Yes, it has been opened since 1949 and they clearly make publicity about it. We had pizza, pastas that were more than average, greasy, not refined at all. The worst part was the veal Milanese. It tasted bad, I had one mouthful and’ could not eat. The same for another family’s member.. we signaled it to the waiter, but no commercial gesture whatsoever. And’ yes, the atmosphere is nice if you like detuned piano. (Not the musicians fault, he played nicely)..

Hidden gem

By MarekLontour |

It would be easy to walk past as this restaurant looks very plain from the outside but once you're inside it's full of old world charm. We had cesar salad to start and followed up with a 16" house soecial pizza but unless you have a BIG appetite pick a smaller one... trust me I can eat and it was just too much , our waiter was nice and attentive which made our lunch very pleasant.. No hesitation in recommending

Great Place for Pizza and History

By BackRoadsUSA |

Maybe Great is a bit strong but the main draw here is the History and Ambiance- which were incredible!! The menu is old school Italian- the pizza is light on ingredients and kind of doughy- in our case it seemed our pizza took a long time- which I dont mind but no one ever came by to apologize or offer something- Veggie pizza needs more ingredients!! Service is ok- Bathrooms clean and roomy. Lots of places to sit for conversation- highly recommend if you are into Hollywood History- supposedly past Presidents have dined here and others-- And I find out it is Haunted--

Lovely hidden gem

By Steviemac2 |

Found the food delicious and very filling and the singing waiter was also great.worth coming back to for sure.

Good

By Foddie-Traverler |

So I have mixed reviews. The salad and pizza was great. The Veil was ok. I would not get the Veil again. The service was great.

Great italian with lovely atmosphere

By Sam R |

This restaurant has a lovely atmosphere with a pianist and rustic decor. The food was good, my husband had the very rich lasagne with extra mozzarella on top and I had the Italian Wedding Soup which was delicious and a meal in itself, it was full of pasta, succulent pieces of chicken, mini meatballs and vegetables, we also had some cheesy garlic bread which was so top heavy with mozzarella we couldn’t eat it all. Great service made this an enjoyed evening meal.

Terrible Service

By Angelo3670 |

We arrived for our reservation on time for 8pm. Their was only 4 of us . 2 x Adults and 2 x Children aged 5. We got seated straight away , about 5 mins later we ordered. (we only ordered 1 x dish each) , this was a Spagetti plain with butter , chicken fingers , meatball with ravaoli and a Spagetti with shrimps. In my eyes , very simple and easy orders . Unfortunately we waited over an 1 hour for these dishes to arrive. When I raised this with the hostess, she said I had chosen difficult dishes to make . Then she went on to say , she was one chef down and then to top it off , she says , it's holiday season , we're really busy. Really poor service. So glad we didn't order starters as we would of been in their all night.

Interesting Place; Mediocre Food

By Jeff A |

It was an ok place to bring a family during a short trip to Hollywood, but the food is only ok. Its website plays up its history, but our server didn't care to elaborate or accommodate eager tourists. Probably should have hit up a restaurant in a different area.

What an expensive disappointment

By David B |

We ask the concierge for a good family restaurant that we could walk to. The first mistake was walking to this restaurant from our Hotel which took us through a unpleasant part of Hollywood Blvd. Once there we ready for a good meal. Wow what a disappointment. We ordered Muscles and Calamari for our appetizer. In both cases it tasted like both foods had been sitting around a while. The Calamari appear to have been reheated in the microwave. They brought us rolls and they were stale - inedible. My daughter order a pizza. I like garlic, but this pizza had so much we could not eat it. My son had chicken fingers that were cold. We asked for Ketchup for the kids meal, they did not have any. I tried a Veal dish that also was so poorly spiced that I could not eat it - i was hungry by this time, and I am not a picky eater, but I could not choke it down. What I have found in the past is that when they are trying to hide old or spoiled food, many times, they will either over cook it or over spice it. I am not shy about sending food back, but I chose not to do this here. I understand that LA would be expensive, but we spent $200 for our "family" meal that no one could eat.

Went in on the Tuesday nite after Memorial Day. Just 4 people in there about 9.00 pm. Very disappointing. Decided to go elsewhere.

Totally delicious---just a few steps off the craziness of Hollywood Boulevard

By Nancy H |

Our first night in LA and we didn't want to eat at a chain restaurant. We were so glad to find this place. So much character, history and charm! Also, the food was really delicious. We ordered the pizza and after our waiter dropped it and the manager comp'd it, the second one finally arrived! It was worth the wait! Great service from the waiter and we enjoyed the piano player. Lots and lots of personality at this place. Stay away from the chains and give it a try!

It's a Hit!

By Cwebann |

After walking and sightseeing for hours, we happened upon Miceli's. The menu appealed to all in our family group. We all ordered different meals and tried each of 5 dishes. The eggplant and the lasagna were the favorites. While waiting for our meal, we were served marvelous breadsticks and we really enjoyed reading all of the famous signatures on wine bottles hanging from the ceiling. Very friendly staff that was great with young children.

Decent food in a nice setting

By pedz55 |

Food is decent, though not particularly memorable. Nice room, with lots to look at. We sat right near the piano which went on all night, could have done with more breaks. Definitely more of a tourist restaurant, but works for families.

Hidden gem in LA!!

By Lori B |

This place SO very much reminds me of my FAVORITE Italian family restaurant in Chicago! Family run business since 1949. Eggplant parmesan and shrimp scampi were AMAZING!! Fresh, hot rolls were served before entrees arrived - mouth watering deliciousness!!! I would HIGHLY recommend this place when you're in LA!

Inside better than outside

By rockcole |

Interior is nicely done - Chianti bottles from the ceiling, a piano player and an occasional singer. Food is average but reasonable

Worth a visit!

By Julie G |

Excellent food and phenomenal singing waitresses & waiters! Piano player was incredible too! The rolls were so fresh and soft. Our family of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our dinner!

Great Italian Food in Hollywood

By Patrick P |

Two couples tried this restaurant for the first time for an early dinner on a Saturday. The look of the restaurant exceeds the photos on the internet. This is a traditional Italian restaurant and is gorgeous on the inside. The service was very good; fast, efficient, and attentive without intrusive hovering. Aunt Annies lasagna is outstanding! The menu runs the gamut from chicken to veal to pasta. Prices are reasonable and there is a public parking lot next to the restaurant. We paid $15 upon parking but Miceli's validated our ticket and we received $11 back. We will defiintely be back.

Horrible

By Franckske |

The worst food I am sorry I never had to say this The staff was so nice but the food ?????? Come on pavilions or ramps would be better

Enjoyable

By Chris G |

Picked this purely on TripAdvisor ratings when looking for an Italian nearby. If you ignore the eccentric people hanging around the streets surrounding it, you've got yourself a nice little restaurant. Service was good, as was the food. Half way through our meal the waiter broke into song to accompany the piano; unexpected and random but an enjoyable experience nonetheless.

Disappointing

By MakatiJoe |

Unfortunately I can’t recommend this restaurant. All three of us were not happy with our meals in this very dimly lit restaurant. Avoid.

Wow this place is really not good

By mitchell R |

Read prior reviews and was hesitant but the bad reviews are accurate. The service was horrendous and felt invisible and the pizza was terrible. Honestly, there are much much better frozen pizzas out there and you can alot of money and time

Disappointing pizza

By Rory James DOYLE |

Advertised as Hollywoods Oldest Italian Restaurant so we gave it a try. Pleasant attentive service but we thought the pizza was disappointing - thick doughy crust and the tomato sauce base was sharp and acidic and it was hard to taste the cheese. The pasta was okay though.

An amazing Italian restaurant

By LiseEriksen |

As we said to the waiter “we’ll rate you 7/5” The food was amazing, I had the Chicken Fettuccini and my boyfriend had a pizza. It was really tasty. The interior was super nice and authentic which gave it a cozy feel, and they had a guy playing the piano which was a great contrast to the busy outside in the Hollywood boulevard. We had a great time, and glad we went there ☺️

The restaurant, the food, the romants and the historic architecture.

By Shawn M. Kouri (Buddha Kouri) |

I went to Hollywood's oldest Italian restaurant and pizza place. It was so romantic with the historic architecture from the 30s and 40s. It had a lady playing a piano and it was so peaceful. I had the best pepperoni pizza I've ever had. I came here on July 2nd, 2016 for my 19th, birthday and it was a great way to celebrate.

Not very good italian

By Food bear |

How bad can Italian be? Took about 15 minutes ti get water and wine. Wish the wine never cane as it was not good (i should have sent it back) . Water was good, sautéd mushrooms and bread were ok, but not remarkable. Fetticini carbonara was ok, but greasy. The veal dish was not good, the veal was tough and had no flavor, although veggies were ok. Cut my losses and has no desert.

Nostalgic, just luvs it!

By travelbugsme |

Great atmosphere, located in a little strip with its signal dimly lightnings hanging right up there. Loves its interior Italian decor, and the accompanied pianist playing lovely tunes throughout the dining session. Generous pasta portions, pizzas are decently good as well. Servers are super attentive on us. Will def be back if chance upon!

A priceless gem in Hollywood

By Esther W |

On a search for Italian food, my friends and I stumbled upon Miceli's and were elated that we did! The atmosphere is definitely old-school Italian, very traditional, extremely cozy and bustling.....with live piano and singing! Patricia, the pianist, and Boyse, the singer and waiter, were stellar performers who made our meal an absolutely amazing experience. I ordered the sausage cacciatore, and I could not have been happier with the taste. The sausage was seasoned perfectly, and the vegetables were cooked just right. I will definitely be visiting Maceli's again and again.

Classic Italian Restaurant Near the Walk of Fame

By Joseph A |

Cool classic Italian restaurant just off of the Walk of Fame. The ambiance is cozy and a little dark, decent piano player entertaining that night with an occasional song from one of the servers. The food (Pasta calimari) was a little better than average, however the service (probably due to being understaffed) was virtually non existent. Excessively long waits for everything, no checking to see if anything was needed, no communication just to let us know they hadn't forgotten about us that night. Maybe the food would have tasted better if we didn't have to wait so long for everything.

The Manager Christina Is UNWELCOMING

By Nada |

I have resisted writing this review for 7 years, because I love this restaurant, l love the food, I love the ambiance, I love the live musicians, and Frank Jr. is a doll. But after the way I was treated tonight, yet again, by Christina, the lead hostess/manager with short red hair, I'm unwilling to refrain from commenting anymore. Christina is rude, classist, insensitive toward people with disabilities, and at this point, I can only assume mildly racist, based on the way she has consistently treated myself and my friends and my guests literally EVERY SINGLE TIME we have frequented Miceli's. Maybe it's because we only go to the bar and order drinks and appetizers, maybe it's because we are all of mixed races, or maybe it's just because she's a hateful person who targets certain individuals and then remembers them every time they come back. Whatever her reasoning, she goes out of her way to make sure we know we are unwelcome, and unwanted at Miceli's Hollywood. (She even once approached our table and complained that our guest who was in a wheel chair was taking up a full dining table. It humiliated him so much that we left, which is evidently what she wanted. We had called ahead to say we only wanted appetizers and drinks but that we had a friend in a wheelchair, and asked it if was okay if we sit in the main dining area since the restaurant bar is not ADA friendly/there's no way to get a wheelchair up the stairs to the bar. The person we called said it was fine, but Christina evidently thought it wasn't and made a point of complaining to our whole party that we were taking up a full-dining table, in front of our friend in the wheelchair.) I have continued to bring my relatives and out of town friends here despite Christina's treatment because I love this spot and believe in supporting locals businesses, especially those with such rich history as Miceli's, but at this point I'm inclined to never go back (which is clearly what this hostile manager wants), and to warn others in the community to never visit as well. Frank Miceli Jr., if you are reading this, and hopefully you are, you should know that Christina REGULARLY, and for years, has made many of your loyal customers feel like they don't deserve to and are unwelcome to frequent your family restaurant. We are loyal, friendly, quiet, agreeable patrons, and we don't deserve this discrimination. It leaves me to wonder how many others like us Christina has shooed away on account of not being the "right kind" of Miceli's patrons. Maybe we are the first to stop coming because of her, but we won't be the last- Eventually, others who get this treatment will finally also stop coming, and this legendary restaurant will in time develop a reputation as a hostile, unwelcoming, discriminatory establishment that is only hospitable to rich, able bodied, white patrons. Unless this is the look you want your restaurant to have, I recommend you take the time to examine this issue. I realize she works very hard and you depend on her to run the business, but you should pay attention to how she's running it on the floor, face to face, with your customers. Your bread and butter. And to anyone else considering going to Micelli's, whether you are a first time patron or a long time guest, I suggest you examine the way this person treats those who are different from you. It's unacceptable, Miceli's. It's a really bad look for you.

Food overpriced; wait staff very good

By Kim H |

Very dark and kind of dusty restaurant in the heart of the Hollywood walk of fame neighborhood. Prices were high; food was good. We eat early (6 pm) and the place was empty. Staff was attentive. Scores of hanging empty Chianti bottles hanging from the ceiling - I’m Italian American. None of our restaurants back east do that. If it’s meant to add authenticity it’s way off the mark.

Yes, Yes, Yes!

By Tony M |

Who doesn't love Italian food, amazing singers and a tasty house chianti in an old Italian setting. Try not to fill up on the garlic bread because your main dish whatever it may be, will excite most your tastes buds. If your looking for a romantic place for a first date that you won't forget or a location for a birthday celebration including the entire family grand parents and all or even alone then you have got to make reservations now 🙄 A fun place in the Valley.

No singing waiters

By LIMom2016 |

We chose Miceli's mainly because they advertise singing wait staff. After waiting awhile for someone to sing and to be waited on at all, we were told that on Monday's they only have one singer. We were there for over an hour and a half during prime dinner hours and eventually heard her sing one song but couldnt see her at all from where we were sitting and she did not walk around. Very disappointing. Would have been ok if the food was good but it was poor to mediocre. My chicken lasagna did not have any chicken in it as far as I could tell. Daughters chicken ceasar salad was lettuce with cold chicken on top. Service was just bad.

Lovely authentic Italian restaurant in the heart of Hollywood

By roxanneea |

Excellent food, lovely atmosphere and great service. We had a delicious bruschetta starter, followed by pizza and vegetable parmigiana. Would definitely return!

Disappointing

By HaagseBluf |

Great location and ambiance (live piano, empty chianti bottles on the ceiling, red checkered tablecloths), but service was mediocre and food terrible. On ordering a small and a medium pizza we got two large ones, ingredients were mixed up and a glass of wine came after ten minutes or so (on a slow night). Pizzas itself were gross and greasy: way too much cheese (really, way too much). Pasta was bland and the tiramisu only looked like it. All in all it had nothing to do with “real Italian food”.

Hunting chicken in Hollywood

By Rolf A |

Miceli's is famous for pizza since 1949 but it also serves a fine chicken cacciatore. The waiters are attentive without hovering, but they do burst into operetta songs within a few notes from the piano player.

Yummy aromas and good food

By diane167 |

This place claims to be the oldest Italian restaurant in Hollywood. Unique wine bottle and dark wood decor on several levels. Quick efficient service. We had pizza and a small was plenty for two. Piano player and the staff periodically get up and sing a song. Great atmosphere. Reservations recommended.

Transport yourself to old Italy!

By David C |

Attracted by the ‘Oldest Italian Restaurant in LA’ moniker we were not disappointed… ornate carved dark wooden tables and seating, beams festooned with Fiascos (straw encased wine bottles), red checker tabled clothes and a pianist - a perfect atmosphere was instant. Alright, we did start commenting that we felt like we might have been part of the old Mafia and started quoting The Sopranos, but hey whadayagunnado?! John, our very engaging waiter, was softly spoken but not shy with recommendations and told us a little history of the restaurant. In between serving us, he joined the pianist and serenaded us with some excellent singing - a man of many talents! We shared starters (Bruschetta, Calamari, and Palma Ham wrapped Melon - all fresh and lovely)… wine flowed… pizza, linguine, ravioli were all very much the taste and quality of the homeland and we forgot we were in Hollywood for a while…. Tiramisu carried on the illusion, although carrot cake and chocolate cake brought us back to LA reality (not unpleasantly!). We tipped big and suspect you will also - whatever you think of the evening you won’t fuggedaboudid!

An Italian's Italian

By snowythepyro |

This is a wonderful Italian restaurant, genuinely authentic - it's Italian Italian, not American-Italian or anywhere else. The atmosphere is wonderful, there's a pianist (and the wait staff take turns to sing - well it is Hollywood, everyone's a star!), and the food was excellent.

Dissapointed

By Martina F |

Visited tonight with friends 6 in the party. I was expecting a much better experience. Great on arrival but we ordered starters and before they were finished the waiter arrived with our main course! Food was average and the tip was written on our receipt when we received it? I know tips are coustomry in US but it's a bit annoying! The price was a bit expensive for what we got and we were out in an hour and 10 mins after booking it for an anniversary meal! Overall not a great experience and would not recommend this restaurant.

Meh

By love2eatnrestaurants |

Tourist destination. Not particularly good food; just in the heart of the Hollywood Blvd. district. Service is dreary.

Very good lasagne!

By Lynnette27 |

We came here on Wednesday at noon. It wasn't busy at that time of day. The pasta and bread were awesome. It would have even been better if a salad was included. Higher prices then where I live but this is Hollywood. Very nice!

Hideout in LA

By Wanderlustindro |

One of the oldest restaurant around Hollywood. Nice ambiance with nice food. Don’t miss the pizza, even if you are ordering main course!! Without it the dinner is not complete. All the waiters can sing that’s extra for you. With very reasonable prices you will get beat food around.

Fun Fun Fun

By judysinger |

So “different“ and lots of fun. Food isn’t the best Italian food I’ve ever had but we keep going back because of the wonderful experience. Each and every employee SINGS - and I don’t mean Try-Outs for The Voice , I mean trained and talented and experienced. It’s a small enough venue that you can be in the “front row” as the singers move about. As for the food the salad dressing is great, pizza is pizza and the chicken dishes are “ok”. Just don’t expect gourmet, expect a fun, unusual experience.

Great evening food and singing waiters

By DianeBill |

First time visitors, what a great family dinner and singing. We ordered family style and all was good. The singing was wonderful even a birthday song for us!!!!The decor was original and the folks were very friendly. Street parking was easy, right off the 101. We can not wait to go back. The kids loved it as well. Took food home.

Our hotel staff recommended this restaurant to us. We are SO glad they did. The food was GREAT! We had manicotti and fettuccine alfredo.

Charm with some shortcomings

By 2B&N |

This is a charming old school Italian restaurant with very good service! We found the seating a bit firm and uncomfortable but acceptable. Initial cocktails came quickly and were good. We shared a Caesar salad which was excellent. Our mains were a chicken Marsala and a veal française. Both were served on spaghetti which was perfectly al denté. The meat itself was nothing special, which was disappointing. Perhaps our expectations were too high but, overall, it was just ok. The potential is there in this restaurant but they need to up their game in the kitchen.

You don't go for the food

By Jerry F |

A great fun place with lots of music and a singing wait staff. The kids will love it and you will too. It's a Sing along. That's the main reason the go. The food is not. On a scale of good to "only if I'm forced to eat this", it's closer to the later. There is nothing good about the food, but it probably won't matter. You'll be smiling the whole time and leave wonder why you like going to this restaurant so much. The answer is the sing along and the personalities of the singing wait staff.

Anything but Italian…

By Qoolio |

We were very disappointed with this restaurant. We actually wanted to eat Italian food, but $25-30 for a pizza was completely overpriced. And I say that as a Swiss person... I decided on carbonara. But I don't know what what I got had to do with carbonara... It had nothing to do with Italian. What a pity...

Absolutely dreadful food and abysmal service

By JHE1905 |

Where to start about how terrible an experience this place is! Having been recommended by someone local we thought that sounds great, the local had obviously not been there for some time… Firstly greeted by a lacklustre waiter who seemed to be bored and not want to waste time with mere mortal customers. Then wait for 10 mins to ask for drinks. Then brought out some re-heated bread rolls which were the most edible part of the meal. Finally get one of the three starters, the “zucchini fries”. Never seen courgette/zucchini fries done in round slices coated with cheap skate breadcrumbs (the orange dried ones you get from the supermarket), but hey ho let’s give it a whirl, yuck, they taste like burnt fried bread, no flavour even when salt added. Then mussels that were edible, just not fresh. Then the giveaway should have been the bad garlic bread. Burnt on the bottom raw in the middle and melted tasteless mozzarella with huge chunks of garlic that taste of nothing, obviously not fresh. This should have given away how bad the pizza would be at this restaurant that claims it has the best pizza in town. My son who LOVES pizza, took one bite and said it was “gross & raw dough” and promptly put it down. Pizza - burnt on the bottom, raw dough in the middle and hardly any meat toppings, just loads of sliced tomatoes. Told the “bored” waiter that it was not cooked and burnt on the bottom, he said “OK so no”, to which we were a bit “did he just say that?”. Then he took it away and slammed it down by the kitchen (which was about 3m away from us. Then we got left for ages while the rest us discovered how awful the rest of meals were. Chicken Parmigiana - burnt coating, dry chicken, overcooked re-heated pasta. Pesto Fettuccine - overcooked pasta swimming in oil mainly with a little bit of tasteless pesto (again loaded with chunks of garlic that taste of nothing). Garlic & Oil Spaghetti - overcooked spaghetti in loads of oil with huge chunks of tasteless garlic. Mmm yum, not. Then after what seemed like an eternity “bored” waiter came over and said “everything OK” so I told him no it was awful and why and he just took the plates, slammed them down in the kitchen again and proceeded to moan to his buddy - semi bored waiter. Then bored waiter stomped around sulking like a five year old. In the end we had to ask semi bored waiter for the bill minus the mains which to be fair he did. Suffice to say they did not get a tip. Worst meal we have ever had. Not in any way authentic Italian, real Italians do not re-heat and microwave food. AVOID.

Ate here before Jimmy Kimmel Show

By RandomTraveler76 |

I needed to be in line for the Jimmy Kimmel show at 3 PM so I popped in here at about 1:30 PM hoping to grab a big meal that would hold me off. This place did the trick. There wasn’t a wait on this Monday afternoon and service was very pleasant and quick. The place is clean and the decor was really spectacular. Very Italian. The bread and salad were pretty good but my linguine with olive oil and garlic was very standard. Not very flavorful at all. I added grated cheese to it which didn’t help it too much. But the quality was good. I suppose prices are what you would expect in that part of the city. I would do it again if needing to eat before the show and maybe would try a different dish.

Wrapping up a day in Hollywood

By LadyDiButterfli |

We saw a play at the Panteges and walked to Miceli's afterwards. We did not have reservations but were perfectly happy in the bar where you can also order food!

Great atmosphere. Mediocre food.

This place has a gorgeous interior and atmosphere. We were there on a holiday and Monday, Memorial Day. The had a piano player and drummer. The waitstaff sung. It was cool. The food was subpar. Lasagna good. Manicotti was terrible.

Fantastic Night Out In Hollywood

By Dan S |

My wife and I headed to this restaurant after a long day of shopping. The food was delicious, with huge portions. The restaurant had live entertainment and was a fantastic end to what was a hectic day. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Good Italian Food

By Bob |

Classic Italian food from pizza to pasta. Good size portions. I had the baked Lasagna. They give you a basket of rolls. The wine bottles hanging from the ceiling is a nice touch.

AMAZING

By Rose Dowling |

We will definitely be back. Great little Italian restaurant with superb staff, live piano music and delicious food. The no cellphones rule makes this place so quirky with everyone talking and listening to the music. The sever sang with the pianist at times and was so lovely and helpful. We will definitely be back on our next holiday to Hollywood.

Service sub-par

By craigheberer |

Concierge at Loews hotel recommended Micelis for dinner prior to show at pantages. Read positive TA reviews so gave it a shot. Was underwhelmed. Ambience great unless you are tucked into a corner with no line of sight and out of ear shot of piano and singing waiters. Our waiter did not sing but his service sang out loud and clear: I need further training because I am a 4 on scale of 10. Unattentive, bland, slow, no bread to table, etc. the only time he lit up was dropping off check acting like being spunky at that moment would seal the deal. Nice try rookie! My chicken Marsella was excellent by the way. Prices reasonable but crappy service takes this establishment off my list.

Italians - stay away

By CenturionMember |

Inspired by the title on the website („oldest Italian restaurant in Hollywood“), we planned to enjoy authentic Italian food and greatest wines from the Tuscany. The website also promised singing waiters, which was confirmed by the host upon reservation by phone. Nothing of it is authentic. The pizza margarita does not deserve the name, any special requests are blocked by the staff „it is not how we do things here“ - ciao, non ci vediamo mai

Restaurant smells really bad

By Kevin P |

Restaurant smells really bad of sweaty socks. Food terrible and vastly over priced. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. All Brit reason for 2 stars is staff were friendly.

Awesome food , atmosphere, and service

We stumbled across this place when walking the Hollywood walk of Fame. Awesome atmosphere, service and food. Must stop!!

Old Hollywood

By azangi90 |

Oldest Italian restaurant in Hollywood of course were gonna try it! Loved the ambiance of the dining area. There is entertainment, Patricia who plays the piano non stop was awesome and even our waitress sang "over the rainbow". The service is excellent. The pizza was my favorite, and my daughter had the ceasar salad with shrimp and loved the different taste it had. Now the spaghetti had a bitter tomato flavor which I wasnt to fond of, but the meatballs were good. There is a full service bar and the food portions are big. Would definately go back!

Incredible!!

The best Italian food I have ever had!! Do yourself a favour and go to this amazing, historic and authentic gem :) btw service is outstanding and meals reasonably priced :)

GREAT Italian food and singers waiters. Family owned since 1949

By P601AHdavidb |

We just went to the Hollywood location, which is the original location and full of Hollywood history. We had been to the Universal City locations many times but this time we wanted to walk along the Hollywood walk of fame on Hollywood blvd. As a restaurant this is fabulous. Family owned for almost 70 years. The fun part is at 6 pm the piano man begins playing and the servers take turn singing. It is a wonderful atmosphere. FYI, I can not recommend the lasagna enough!

Real Italian food 👌🏻

By Tom Lee |

We wanted to eat something and there wasn’t much of a choice in this area until we spotted miceli’s Italian restaurant and it was fantastic!

Just ok

By Christina |

For the price, we would have gone somewhere else. The food was pretty good, but again, not worth the price, really. It wasn’t a terrible experience, but it wasn’t mind-blowing, either. The inside is really neat and the live piano player was a nice touch. We had 2 lasagna’s, a soda, a coffee, and cheesy garlic bread and the total after tip came to around $70. Just seemed like overpriced, mediocre Italian.

Miceli's - Full of Old School Charm & History!

By Allan S |

We visited “the oldest Italian Restaurant in Hollywood” on both of our nights in Hollywood. The restaurant is charming and very quaint with “old school” Italian décor and is only a few steps from the chaos on Hollywood Boulevard. It is easy to imagine the history of this restaurant, which has been visited by numerous celebrities over the years, and with the autographed chianti bottles hanging from the ceiling and a piano player on the upper deck, playing relaxing tunes, it all of adds to its nostalgic ambience. On our first night we had a large Miceli’s Special Pizza to share, which was more than enough for two, and it was so good that we returned the next night and had Fettuccini Carbonara and Aunt Angie’s Lasagne. All of the food was very tasty, with ample portions, and the staff were very attentive. Highly recommended restaurant which is full of old school charm and history.

Fantastic Italian

By Maxine |

Fantastic place. Beautiful old style Italian restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Piano in the restaurant played by Patricia was the icing on the cake especially when she was accompanied by the servers joining her to sing. Our server was called Kale and he made us feel very welcome. Would highly recommend that if you are in LA this is a must!

The long wait

By Anders L |

We stopped by for lunch. Very nice and warm interior, so started on a positive note. After a few minutes we could place orders for drinks and food. One Caesar’s salad and one pizza. As time passed by, more and more people arrived and the restaurant started to fill up. After a long while our waiter came and asked if my wife wanted a refill of her soda, but before I could ask if I could get a 2nd beer, the waiter was gone. To our surprise most people around us started to get their meals, even those who arrived 15-20 min after us... So after waiting an hour, when everyone around us had received their food, we didn’t feel like waiting any longer and left.

Fun, Old School Italian !!

By umberto1909 |

Food is not excellent. It is good. What drew me here was the history. It is the oldest Italian restaurant in Hollywood and it has been run by the same family since its inception. I am Italian-American and I seek out places like this. The inside is decorated wonderfully. Looks like you're in a movie. Service was excellent. Prices were excellent. Portions were big. Dean Martin's star is located less than a block away. A GREAT PLACE !!
