Awesome, delicious italian food

By barbarasF3829US |

My grandson who lives in Manhattan chose Michaels of Brooklyn as the place to dine on my last night in New York before returning to Ohio. He said it has the best marinara sauce ever! He was totally right. When we entered the restaurant we were greeted with a hearty welcome and big smiles. We had an 8:00pm reservation and only had a brief wait time, which was good for a Saturday night. Once seated they brought breads, rolls, olives etc. to our table to munch on as we checked their extensive menu. Our server was efficient and friendly and the rest of the wait staff made sure our water glasses were never empty and dishes removed promptly after eating. The food was some the of the tastiest I ever eaten. I had the Michaels alla Veal, a tender cutlet with spinach and cheese along with potatoes and carrots. Dessert consisted of Coconut Cake from their own bakery, it was moist with a delicious icing and lots of coconut. I tried my sons pasta which had the marinara sauce and found it to be exactly as my grandson said, perfectly seasoned and absolutely delicious. I hope to return there on my next visit to Brooklyn.

Favorite Brooklyn Restaurant

Michael's of Brooklyn is my #1 spot to go to when out with my friends. The service is always great & the food is always on point. I usually get pasta with one of their amazing sauces but tonight I wanted fish & I got the Salmon with Crab Meat in a Mustard Dill Sauce & of course it was DELICIOUS!

Michael's Restaurant is a special place to take the family or friends or to celebrate an occasion. The menu is extensive and the food is wonderful, their fresh baked desserts extraordinary. Manhattan Prices at a Local Restaurant

By Catherine M |

Michael's is fine. Tge food is good. Appetizers are above average. The problem is that they charge Manhattan prices. Too pricey for a neighborhood restaurant. Food is good NOT great

Excellent old school Italian!

By Tnoranges |

They have been around a long time and there’s a good reason for it. The food is excellent and service is top notch. They have great sauce, I’m getting hungry thinking about it. They also have a pastry shop across the street, everything is good but my favorite are the lobster tail pastries... yum

Terrific Restaurant Michaels!

What a NYC Italian-American Restaurant Should Be!

By Joseph K |

Went with a group of 9 for a celebratory dinner, and everything was fantastic (including their flexibility when our 8 changed to 9). We did four courses family-style (appetizers, pastas, mains, desserts) and everyone was thrilled. Service was very good (with strong teamwork). They were great about refilling water carafe, drinks, brining fresh plates and silverware, etc. Highlights included octopus, seafood and avocado salad, Michael's salad, rigatoni baked and burnt (crusty), linguini with clam sauce, T-bone, veal chop milanese, oreo Tartufo, ... I could keep going on. Part of what was impressive is how well they did across a wide variety of dishes. Incredible consistency. Also a fun atmosphere and no pressure (even as we were the third party remaining at the end of the evening. Definitely worth the trip (and yes, quite a bit out of the way for most folks).

One of the best Italian meals I have ever had. The Veal Scaloppini Marsala was terrific. It melted in your mouth. The waiter was nice and entertaining.

Michael's of Brooklyn is amazing

By Ernestine J |

If you want the true, pure, honest Italian dining experience, head to Michael's of Brooklyn. Be it dinner for two, or a catered affair, Michael's is excellent. Bring a healthy appetite because this place makes excellent food, excellent service, and they truly enjoy watching you enjoy the fruits of their labor. How they manage to keep that part of the family feeling in a professional, commercial restaurant is a testament to the quality of this establishment. This is truly Brooklyn at its best, where the old world meets the new world in a tastefully delightful manner. Simply wonderful. It's one of the things I miss most after moving the Pacific Northwest, and thank goodness, their sauces and pasta are now available online. I love Michaels.

Lively! Delicious! Not Touristy! The real thing!

By Judith G |

This is Brooklyn Italian restaurant which we, visitors from Canada, would never have found on our own. We were taken by our son who lives in Brooklyn but only heard about it from a colleague at work who lives in Staten Island. The place was packed on a week night. The food was marvellous. The waiters were highly professional. We enjoyed the atmosphere (totally non loft-like) and the live piano music. Round table. Able for the 6 of us to speak to one another. Total success!

Triumphant Return

By Bert G |

Having been away from this restaurant for almost 25 years I recently went for dinner with the family. I found the food and service were excellent. When the bill came I was pleased with the entire evening. Vow not to stay away again. In a word it was Delightful

Sunday dinner

By Liz L |

Perfect for Sunday dinner if you’re looking for macaroni and gravy (pasta /sauce) without having to cook .. alm the classic italian dinners just like your grandma made .. very traditional not too much garlic thank god because all good italians know not to use too much !!!! And the service is the best .. professional waiters which is so hard to find today!!!!

Beyond Belief!!!!!

By bruceklein |

Dinner with my wife and my cousin on a Saturday night. No reservation, no problem. Michael seated us. Big John was an excellent server. The wine list is phenomenal; great selection of Italian and California wines for every price range. We went with Stags Leap Artemis cab, excellent value at under a hundred; full, fruity, and complex. Crab avocado appetizer was out of this world. Entrees: veal marsala and veal parmagiana were the best we've ever had. ANYWHERE! Perfect tiramasu for dessert. Could have done with a 20 year tawny port but the 10 year was fine. Come here and eat! Often!

Never a bad meal.

By Lisa D |

You can't go wrong any time you visit Michael's of Brooklyn. I had fried lobster last night and believe me it did not disappoint. My husband and son shared a T-bone steak which was cooked to perfection by Chef John. Our waiter John was funny and delightful. And informative. We sat at the bar first for a drink and the bartender Kevin is always smiling and makes great drinks. Michael the owner always greets us with a smile and makes everyone feel at home. If your in Brooklyn and looking for a delicious Italian meal Michaels of Brooklyn is the place to go. And on your way out you can buy a jar of their homemade sauces. Yummy!

For that special night

By Gardoz9 |

I went here with my wife for our anniversary, it was recommended by my wife's hairdresser who's husband is a chef and we were not disappointed. They start you off with a variety of small bites as well as bread. T e bites were Parmesan cheeses, a chickpea mix and olives very nice. For appetizers, my wife had a melon salad which she said was very good and refreshing. I had a slab of grill bacon in a Bourbon sauce also very good. My wife had the Sunday gravy for the main course which consisted of five different meats and pasta. It was so big she had to take some home (great leftovers) she loved it. I had the braised pork shank with vegetables. The meat was fall off the bone soft and very very good, The marrow was excellent. The vegetables were cooked just right soft with a little bite not mushy. We were so stuffed we didn't have room for dessert. Overall a great experience. The ambiance was very nice you would think you were in a grand ballroom. The service was very friendly, fast and knowledgeable about the food. Made great recommendations. Would definitely go again.

Love The Place

By Mammo516 |

Second visit which was again perfect. It may seem old school to some but to us that's the charm. I love walking in and hearing the piano music. Jack was our server - terrific. The Veal Alla Michael is incredible. We also love to start with the calamari. After dessert, we suggest you take something home from their pastry shop for the next day. We will be back.

Very nice atmosphere

By doris638 |

The food was delicious, everything we tried was very well made. We liked the sauces, and you can go with friends and Have a nice lunch or dinner. They serve liquor if you want. It was a little pricy but it was worth it. We really enjoyed it.

Great Food and Atmosphere

By Michael |

Last night we had gone to Michael's Resturant and all I can say is WOW! The Sea Bass was on point! My wife enjoyed a chef special pasta with a cream sauce that was amazing. I can't say enough about here, just that you have to take the time a visit. The service is fantastic, the bartenders are amazing and the live piano music brought me back years to when I was a kid.

Wonderful !!

By ynot4119 |

The food was out of this world. The calamari was crispy and not soggy. The chicken parm was also crispy and excellent. I loved the cheese and meets they served for New Year's Eve dinner, I don't think that is a regular thing, but I have to go back and check. The inside is deff a old school Italian design... but honestly go there for the food not the decor. Prices are a tad high but eh it's good food so who cares. The drinks are ok, nothing special.

My Favorite Italian Restaurant

By shanamaidel |

Michael's is definitely a place to celebrate a special occasion. I celebrate my birthday here every year and always order my favorite dish - veal ossobucco. It's so soft, it falls off the bone. The flatbreads, cheese and olives on the table are delicious finger-foods while you wait for the main course. Michael's salad with goat cheese is a family favorite. For dessert, try the warm chocolate tart and almond biscotti (included). Live piano music enhances the atmosphere; but, is difficult to hear. The waiters are attentive. The decor is not modern, which is fine with me; but, I miss the lovely floral decorations and centerpieces that enhanced the main dining room in years past.

Classic Brooklyn

By Kuvasz1988 |

The service is impeccable. You will want for nothing. Enzo is awesome. Thank you. The atmosphere is classic Italian and Brooklyn! It is pure comfort. The baked clams were amazing! Great place!

A great place to dine with friends!

By doloresdh |

Met my friend Helene for dinner last week. This is her favorite restaurant and I immediately could see why as soon as i walked in the door. I was welcomed and seated and as I waited for my friend to arrive the staff made sure i was comfortable. They brought some warm bread, cheese, sopresatta and olives while i was waiting. Dinner was absolutely delicious with the service top notch. I will definitely will go back again.

First dinner out since pandemic!!

By SuzyQu15 |

Michael’s has a lovely tent set up in the rear of their parking lot, complete with sparkling lights and flowers. Tables were socially distanced and all the many waitstaff were respectful and wore masks. We shared appetizers and dessert, ordered individual entrees. They start you off with a generous bread basket with focaccia and flat bread, olives and cheese. All the food was very good. Service was excellent. Prices for wine were high, but the food comparable to other nice, Italian restaurants. Highly recommend.

A Wonderful Restaurant

By Toni F |

A bit more expensive than our usual haunts, we saved Michael's for a special occasion. I am glad we did. The appetizers- stuffed clams, eggplant rollatine, and fried calamari were all tasty. My husband's rabbit cacciatore was the best he's ever had. My daughter's shrimp scampi was very tasty and was quite a plateful! I thoroughly enjoyed my broiled branzino. A minor complaint was that the skin was left on. My son ate every bit of his chicken cardinale, as did my dad and his chicken francese. All items were served with potato croquettes and green beans with carrots. Yummy. Since it was a special occasion, we ordered deserts as well. All were delicious. The service was very attentive and professional. A lovely experience. I would highly recommend it.

Birthday dinner done right!

By Joe L |

From the moment we walked into the restaurant service was top notch. Everyone was attentive without being too much. Drinks were very good and the wine recommendation by our waiter was exactly what we were looking for. All of our food was beyond expectations and was worth every penny. Did not have dessert as we went across the street to their pastry shop which is another experience to itself. Cannot wait to return!

BUONISSIMO

By Bette Z |

Had a 5pm reservation for a party of 8 last night. We were pleasantly welcomed and taken to a very nice table. The service was impeccable! The portions were very generous and we were guided with how many appetizers we needed. The ladies in the group all had a very generous glass of wine and the men stuck with the Peroni. We were served the most delicious bread and then came the appetizers......we ordered MOZZARELLA, TOMATOES AND ROASTED PEPPERS,BAKED CLAMS, and FRIED CALAMARI.....there was nothing left over. Two of us ordered off the special menu, PAPPARDELLE PASTA WITH SHRIMP IN A GARLIC & OIL WITH A SPLASH OF MARSALA WINE...wonderful! Others had the EGGPLANT PARMIGIANA,VEAL SCALOPPINI FRANCESE, VEAL CHOP MILANESE, VEAL ALLA MICHAELS Veal scaloppini topped with spinach and mozzarella cheese in a white wine and shrimp sauce,BUTTERNUT SQUASH RAVIOLI, and CHICKEN FRANCESE. Everyone was happy with their meal and there were no left overs. It was a dinner for a 88 Birthday and they brought over a cake and the whole place sang "happy birthday"! Delightful evening all the way around!!

A precious gem for those who take pride in Brooklyn

By goplace42 |

Working at nearby Med School/hospital, I have dined at Michael's a few times a year for about 4 yrs. It has become a place where I would bring old friends and retired colleagues for a lunch. In my opinion, this is a restaurant not only has excellent food, it has a proud long tradition and ambience. I have eaten all over the States and around the world traveling for business meetings and family gatherings. I definitely consider myself somewhat an expert when it comes to dinning at top restaurants; the emphasis would be focused on the presentation, fresh qualities and wonderful taste/ flavor! For a recent visit, a former medical student stopped by to see me after graduating more than 20 yrs ago - an occasion that called for special attention and celebration. I brought him to Michael's. For lunch, we shared a rack of lamb on a bed of fava bean paste and a seafood plater for two people. The latter consisted of mussels, shrimps/pawns, calamari, scallops and clams. Both dishes were presented deliciously with elegance and abundance. The meat was cooked to med/rare as we ordered, and the seafood was top-rated in taste and flavor as well. When made reservation at "OpenTable", I requested a dessert to celebrate the occasion. end of We were treated with a plate of chocolate mousse cake with shaves of dark chocolate, raspberries and fresh cream to accompany our cappuccino. That was one of the best chocolate cake I had. It was a great way to end a happy reunion. My usual favorites at Michael's are the eggplant rollatini, gnocchi, veal/chicken parmesan and crab avocado salad! Michael's of Brooklyn is one of the top restaurants that has both tradition and reputation. It is located in Marine Park- it is another precious gem for those of us who take pride in Brooklyn.

Always fantastic!

By Sunset92 |

We went for a late dinner and to our surprise the restaurant was crowded. I didn't need a reservation but almost every table was occupied at 10pm. The food and service was great as usual and the live piano music was a nice touch.

A Cut Above Your Normal Brooklyn Italian Fare

By Phelman-Kech |

This establishment offers free parking which is very convenient in its busy neighborhood. Besides the traditional Italian fare they offer they have some interesting selections like Crab Avocado Salad, Lobster Rolls and Rabbit. A bit expensive but a great place for a special occasion.

Simply the Best

By Katrina P |

We visit Michaels of Brooklyn every year at Christmas time, it's become a tradition for us. The food and atmosphere is amazing but more importantly the people are truly exceptional. They usually have an annual Christmas bear so we asked this year if they had them and they did not but the owner told us he would ship them out for our children when they arrived... not really expecting any sort of delivery at any time but appreciated his offer especially in front of the kids 🥰well very unexpectedly we received a box in the mail today with three Christmas bears, I couldn't believe it! Honestly they truly make it feel like Christmas and they have become extended family to us. With much love and appreciation from Boston...The Philbin Family ❤️#lovemesomebrooklyn #seeyounextChristmas

Great Family Place

By 225thomasv |

I have eaten at Michael's now for over 25 years. The first time was for a friends wedding reception many years ago. Most recently with friends from JHS but with visits in-between over the years. The food was as good today as I remembered it from any previous time. The do have a private parking lot with valet parking. They can accommodate large parties for dinner or for a private party. The bar is very large and extensive. The bartenders are all very friendly and pour very liberal drinks. Prices are very reasonable. We were a party of ten people who were eating. With bottles of wine and more food than we could eat the bill came out to $1000 including a very generous tip. After dinner we closed the place down from the bar and no one said a word about pushing us out so they could lock up. All the pasta dishes were excellent as were the appetizers, main dishes and deserts. Service was GREAT. If you're in the area you should give them a try.

Best Sauce in Brooklyn

By IceCreamLady |

I love coming to Michael’s. I had about everything on their menu and it’s always on point. Their Tomato & Basil Sauce is amazing and my favorite. Tonight I had Oysters and their Sirloin Steak. The steak was cooked to perfection. If you haven’t been here you are definitely missing out.

Once again Michael’s was amazing! Not only is the food top notch but, they treat us like family. We get to order off menu regularly and they always accommodate our requests. Fantastic Old-school service & Delicious high-end Italian

By taddoloco |

I stopped in her with my brother and his wife after attending a wake. Growing up in Brooklyn l can't believe I was never here before. Walking in from a hot summer afternoon into the classic, cool and elegantly decorated dining room was reprieve alone. There was a piano playing a dying restaurant art form, the art of subtle dinner music - loud enough to hear, but unobtrusive. The waiter was a man in his fifties with an Italian accent from Sardinia, a real old world gentleman and professional waiter. Not some Brooklyn hipster from Kansas, who thinks they invented Brooklyn and are doing you a favor by waiting on you. The appetizers where incredible, the most tender grilled calamari, a lump crab and avocado cold salad and fresh figs wrapped in prosciutto, all delicious and artfully arranged. I had a veal ragu with rigatoni for my main course. Big chunks of veal in a great sauce, rigatoni nice and al dente. We finished with cappuccinos and tiramisu. Everything was excellent. The waiter was attentive and friendly, without overdoing it. Hey, wannabe restaurant owners and managers, stop in this place for dinner to see how a restaurant is supposed to be run, take notes if you have to, these guys have it down, Gargulio's.

It was an old fashioned Italian restaurant!

By JHR6301 |

We had a great time here. It was a neighborhood restaurant in Brooklyn, and it was really hopping on the Friday we visited. We had drinks at the bar and enjoyed the piano player. They had great food. My husband and I had veal Marsala. My son had the escargot and veal Francese. Others in our group had pasta dishes; the lasagna was delicious. We had a cannoli for dessert. It was a traditional one with licorice flavoring. Lots of fun!

Great Experience

Great Italian Meal

By Mammo516 |

We thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday night dinner here. The food was delicious. We began the meal with sharing fried calamari which was cooked to perfection. Each of us ordered a veal dish--marsala and parmigiana and gnocchi. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal taking home some for the next day. We made a stop at the bakery across the street for a piece of tiramisu and coffee cake. The person at the counter told us it was the same desserts served at the restaurant. We made a reservation and it was a good thing we did. We live out of state and plan to return on our next visit. This is not a new style Italian restaurant - one from yesteryear and we loved it.

What a gem!

By Denise N |

I'm sure this excellent restaurant doesn't need my review but I'd like to say to others, this is Italian restaurant at its best! Not a pizza place but the real deal! Celebrating my birthday with friends there. I made reservations from my home in Amsterdam holland via email and it worked out fine. What a place. Live music by pianist whom we had to discover somewhere up near the ceiling. With 8 people it's hard to decide on appetizers so we ordered a poco de tutti... which covered out table with great starters... the main course was varied from pasta to lobster ... all so good. Great service! We were in an Italian movie it seemed. Surprise dessert for my birthday was icing on the cake. Fantabulous. The bill ...... pleasantly surprised .... not nearly as much as I thought!!! I'll certainly will go back

Amazing Italian

By LitProfessor |

The food is excellent and the service is superb. The food is a very classic style of Italian cuisine. The taste of the food hasn't changed in the twenty years my family has been frequenting the restaraunt. It is perfect for a special occasion and great for family events. I would highly recommend going to the restaraunt and the bar is fantastic. Very large and the wait service in both the bar and seating areas are amazing.

A throwback in time

By BenzgalS550 |

While sitting in Michael's I felt as any moment Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin would be walking through the door. It's so retro it's back in style, from the decor to the food, to the level of service. The wait staff is very attentive and professional. Although the restaurant was crowded with patrons waiting, we never felt rushed. The veal Marsala was fork tender, smothered in mushrooms and delicious. The desserts are heavenly. The coconut cake is perfection on a plate. Michael's also boasts a bakery across the street which is a mandatory stop after a very enjoyable meal.

EXCELLENT FOR MANY YEARS!

By Joseph S |

My first visit in 5 years to Michael's. Still an excellent red sauce, as good as I have had in Brooklyn. Owner is very involved, and the service is superb. If you are in Brooklyn and want pasta with a red sauce--this is the place.

Fine Italian Restaurant tucked away in Marine Park

By Brian M |

For decades, Michaels has been a consistently fine Italian restaurant. A very nice place to go for special occasions or if you are looking for a place that is above casual. The food is always good and includes the typical Italian favorites. While you are there don't pass up the desert menu. Good for couples, families and small groups. They also have a private party room available. Valet parking in their own lot.

TRAVEL BACK IN TIME AND EAT AT A TRUE ITALIAN RESTAURANT

By Valentibruno |

Having lived on Long Island for the last almost twenty years. You become accustomed to the service, and quality of food at local Italian restaurants here with VERY FEW exceptions. After visiting Michaels of Brooklyn last night, my taste buds were awakened once again. Growing up on Staten Island, dining in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens in the 1970', 80's, 90's there were many great Italian restaurants. Franchises have arrived since, local owners with vowels in their last name mixing canned sauce and restaurant depot pasta are now on the front lines of Long Island Italian eateries. What a pleasure "coming home" to the way an Italian restaurant should be. After calling for reservations from being in Manhattan, we arrived in less than an hour. The decor is reminiscent of the 1980's and early 1990's. And it is not a bad thing. After being seated we were served with authentic Italian bread and a tray of cold antipasto with Imported Parmesan and Sweet Soppresata along with cultured olives. The way it was in your nonna's house or Aunt Mary! The all male waiter staff is dressed in three piece suits bringing the level of class and service up a notch. The appetizers were fresh, well cooked and dinner was splendid. I suggest the Margherita pizza and a tasting of the salads before going long for the pasta with bolognese. We were never rushed and attended to well by the staff. Cappucino was authentic and not the typical rush coffee most oftener dished out here after dinner on Long Island. Pastries are baked on premises (as they have their own dessert shoppe). It is hard to believe how we here on Long Island have forgotten the traditions and class of old school Italian fresh cooking' coupled with the class and service of yesteryear. I think with our culture and "advances' in food creation, dishes, its good to have gone back a few decades for an excellent meal.

Beautiful

This restaurant is amazing. The food is great the service is great. I love coming here. I wish I knew about this place a long time ago and I would have saved my time and money from trying other restaurants in Brooklyn. The pictures speak for themselves.

It's Still 1970 In Here

By John K |

If you are nostalgic for large, old Brooklyn restaurants, you'll enjoy Michael's. If you're looking for excellent Italian food, keep looking. If you appreciate outstanding service, this place is tops. I know that's a mixed review. I'll expand. We were invited here by friends whom, we know, have little judgment of good food or good restaurants. They'll go to the same restaurant for years and overpay for pedestrian food (think New Corner in Bensonhurst) but never venture to "The City". But we enjoy their company and figured this might be a fun throwback. There is free valet parking, which is great in this neighborhood. The restaurant is large and the decor is truly from the 70's. You expect at any moment for Tony Manero to come out of the restroom, patting his hair into perfection. Tony is there, but now he is Tony Soprano. The service is outstanding. Even though I am a Manhattan restaurant regular, and believe the food there overshadows anything in the outer boroughs, any one of them could take a lesson from this place. Right on top of things, but not intrusive...professional. The wine list is extensive and we were even able to select a Barolo d'Alba; a rarity in Brooklyn. The food, alas, is no better than you'd make at home. I have a lot of Italian friends and every one of them thinks their meatballs are so good that "dey should open uh store or sumthin'". The truth is, most of them are pretty much the same, as is the case with this place. Everything was uneventful. The calamari, the lasagna, even the bread. It's all just kind of "there" as part of a set-piece. And it's expensive. We paid Manhattan-plus prices for run-of-the-mill food, but someone has to cover the cost of the physical plant. Overall, an interesting but disappointing experience.

A classic

Still one of the absolute best restaurants in Brooklyn. Never get tired of it. A must go for everyone when you are in the area.

Birthday celebration

By Beachratt |

Outstanding service!! Piano playing soft dinner music!! Cocktails at the bar with Master bartender Kevin. Very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent, started with an ice cold shrimp cocktail. With jumbo Shrimp. Then we shared a beautifully persimmon salad with toasted walnuts and fresh blue cheese! Our main course was the highlight of the meal. Fresh king crab fra diavlo with pasta and a Sunday Dinner with all day sauce!! Perfect. The wine selection was an Oregon red blend which was outstanding & delicious!! Love when the waiter John singing Happy Birthday to me!! It was a perfect evening. You get what you pay for and this Restaurant is worth every time!

Hands Down, The Best of The Best Italian Food!!!

By Navigator34527601572 |

****Michael's Of Brooklyn Restaurant**** Hello, I am MR. BIG RED, and I want to share what a Great Night on The Town, I had last evening, with my friend, Scott Ruscillo. We dined/partied at Michael's of Brooklyn Restaurant, and immediately were made to feel at home, as we were treated like Kings!!! The ambiance is very warm, classy, spacious, yet quite comfortable. The food is absolutely exquisite, scrumptious, delicious, dish after dish, course after course, with beautiful presentations. We started off with a Campari & Soda with Lemon, and a Bourbon Concoction from the Cocktail Menu. More Campari, and a Tangueray Negroni followed. Then Scotty and I sampled: The Chilled Crabmeat Cocktail & delightful Fried Calamari Appetizers. For the entrées, my Boy had a perfectly cooked Medium Rare Filet Mignon, with Asparagus. I chose The House Special, a melt-in-your-mouth Veal Chop Parmigiana, with a side of Spaghetti Bolognese. Two and a half hours into our meal, we made room for dessert. Scott had the largest Lobster Tail, stuffed with Whipped Creme and drizzled with Chocolate Ganache Sauce, that I've ever seen. He paired that with a Frangelico Coffee. I had an Assorted Sherbet dish with 5 Amazing flavors of Sherbet, and paired that with a Double Espresso and Romana Sambvca...... I purposely parked two blocks away, in Marine Park, Brooklyn, as I knew I would need a stroll after this tremendous dinner, and I have no problem walking City Streets around Midnight, even though I'm carrying a Louis Vuitton "Murse" clutch. My friends know what I bring to the party.....LoLoLoLoLoL. My dear friends, Matthew Mari, Esq. (Famous Defense Attorney), and Billionaire Businessman, Political Talk Show Host, John Catsimatidis and a whole host of politicians also dine here. As a former Finance Chairman of The New York Conservative Party, I can see why. Additionally, I understand that this is a favorite restaurant of Andrew Dice Clay's and of Joe Piscopo's, amongst a whole host of other celebrities. The Management; Chef, Kitchen Staff and Waitstaff are most Attentive, Amazing and Uber Professional. Michael, John and their Staff made our visit to Michael's simply I N C R E D I B L E ! ! ! I highly recommend this establishment. YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE RESERVATIONS. Ask for Michael, and tell him MR. BIG RED from Table #1 at Park Side sent you....Bon Appétit, my friends!!! Thank you to all of the Great Folks at Michael's for making our "Boy's Night Out" a Spectacular one, across the board. We'll be regulars!!! Kindest regards, MR. BIG RED

OUTSTANDING

I can't find a single dish that is anything but delicious. A treat at every level......plan ahead it's hard to get a reservation. Mostly for adults and business clientele...you will not be disappointed

Top Italian restaurants in Brooklyn

By Ed A |

Very nice atmosphere. I always get the same dish and the same appetizers. The best thing is consistency. Their marinara sauce is one of the best and the scallops are amazing.

Excellent first visit and will be visiting again

By April P |

We have lived in Brooklyn for years and never ventured inside Michael's. We were pleasantly surprised at the ambiance, staff, and quality of food. I ordered the Pasta alla michael's and it was delicious. I definitely will get that again. They do give you a nice appetizer of meat, cheeses, and olives, so no need to get a bunch of apps. The staff was very attentive, welcoming, and professional. You can dress casual or dressy and you will feel comfortable either way.

Tasty, Courteous and Professional

By James P |

Welcomed in a very professional manner. Seated smoothly and gently with a 96 year old WWII Veteran. Appetizers were superb. Broccoli Rabe, Baked Clams and Calamari hit the spot! Vegetables were excellent. Service made you feel special. All entrees were delicious. Pasta and sauce very good.

What a wonderful restaurant!

By Jane B |

Michael's was a wonderful restaurant. First the food was undoubtedly the best Italian food I have ever eaten in Brooklyn. In addition to this the service was impeccable. I give Michael's my highest rating.

Pretentious local Italian restaurant.

By Stefan L |

After saying I would not come back to this restaurant I was persuaded by friends who live nearby to give it another try. The food is only average and expensive. Nothing with the exception of their Parmigiano cheese is exceptional. Service was good (I have had previous problems). Potions are substantial. I have had better in other local establishments.

Possibly the best Italian restaurant I've ever eaten at

By Francis S |

I noticed while visiting my local Sprouts this jar of sauce with plain packaging-and when I read the label noticed the address 1 block from my grandmothers old house in Brooklyn. Then I put two and two together and realized that this was the place my grandmother said we couldn't go to when I visited because "it's too expensive, Frankie :) " We now live in Phoenix and my 22 year old daughter had never been to Brooklyn. In the process of showing her great grandma's house we took a trip to Brooklyn and made the call to eat at Michaels. Tough call between this and Buckley's a block away-but simply put this may well be the best Italian restaurant I've ever eaten at. Michael (owner) made you feel like you were home the minute you walked in. Servers were old school and 100% attentive. And the food-let's just say that every dish was perfectly prepared and yummy! I had the veal chop primavera and 1/2 dozen oysters, my daughter had braciola with gnocchi, and a salad- and we split a cookies and cream tartufo (yum!) for dessert. All wonderful. It's also a great room to people watch. You also saw tables eating family style and yes, the noise level was epic :). Apparently during the week top-level NYC politicians are often spotted here. And on the way out-coupons for the sauce! Sister in Portland wants some already. Not cheap (grandma was right :) )-but well worth the trip to Marine Park from Manhattan or points all over the NYC metro area. Or in our case, from Phoenix. A neighborhood gem that is now a true destination restaurant.

Don't get all the hype

By mtodd003 |

The restaurant is crowded and loud. I would never go there again on a weekend. Waiting for our table was in a very crowded bar area and was so claustrophobic. Even the food wasn't as good as it normally is. They sell their jar sauce which is outstanding and no preservatives. Service was so-so.

Dinner

By mickeynj1 |

This was always my parents favorite. Since their passing have not been in awhile. We were greeted as if we were there yesterday. They remembered we come from New Jersey. The food, the service was as wonderful as ever. A must, regardless even if you have to travel an hour.

peradise

By Peggy Taylor |

New Years Eve

By biz_Travelor7 |

We eat at Michaels about 75 times per year and have been doing so for about 10 years. NEVER had even a mediocre meal. Always GREAT. Always friendliest patrons there. What to have? They are supposed to be known for their veal but we’ve never had it. Others seem to love it. We recommend; Their soups (Butternut Squash, Chickpea soup, Lentil etc) Their salads and apps (Hot Portabello with Fava puree) Buratta (creamy mozzarella) Entree; Any Fish (they will make it any way you can think of) Pastas, gnocci Burnt Veggies (charred under the grill) Desert; Cannolli and NY cheesecake best on planet Earth There’s no way you’re NOT gonna love it

Fancy and very good

By afelric1 |

Dress appropriately as this restaurant is very fancy. The food was good but the menu wasn't as big as I'd liked. They do have lots of specials though. Service was good enough (I waited a while and asked 3 times for another coke), and the food was good. Stuffed artichoke isn't as good as I'd hoped.

A Holiday Lunch that lasts till dinner!

By Klfriedman |

I went with my client and his other advisors for a holiday lunch. There were 19 of us at a long table. They brought out platters of appetizers, all of which were terrific. The artichokes, mussels and meatballs were the best, but everything was tasty and fresh, right down to the mozzarella, peppers and tomatoes. For a main dish, we ordered off the menu. I had a nice shrimp marinara dish with extra garlic and was very pleased with the sauce. For dessert, we again ordered from the menu and I had raspberry sorbet which was great. All in all, a very nice afternoon that didn't end till after 4 pm!

Comfort, Nostalgia, Great Service, Atmosphere and Good Food

By David C |

From the moment I walked in to the wonderfully wood themed restaurant I felt like I was in a private club and my nose was awoken by wonderful fragrances of food coming out of the kitchen and my stomach was awaking to hunger. I was mesmerized by the sounds of a piano playing beautiful delightful music and could not find it; finally I found the pianist on a platform suspended from the ceiling next to the bar. The bar and restaurant had a full bar with great choices of small batch liquor and good wines. The service was attentive and excellent. A full menu of a variety of classic Italian dishes was supplemented by enticing Daily Specials. Well worth the trip.

Beyond Delicious

By KathieSilber |

I know Michael’s of Brooklyn has been around for a long time, but we tried it last year and fell in love with this restaurant. The food is fantastic with dozens of specials every weekend. We always have the best time there as the food, service and atmosphere are wonderful! Their bartenders make delicious cocktails, too! We always take out-of-town guests to Michael’s since we know everyone will love them too!

Amazing food and ambiance

By Julie W |

Enjoyed a wonderful meal with friends. Was the perfect place to gather and converse with each other. Highly recommended.

Authentic Italian- even better than Arthur Ave

By Mike A |

Had an amazing meal here with my husband. The place is real Italian and the food was just amazing. I have been going to Arthur Ave for years and this food was better than anything I’ve had there. The sea bass was done just right and the pasta is delicious. I have been using their pasta sauce every since. It is delicious and all good ingredients with no sugar. Well worth the trip to Brooklyn from Manhattan, will be back every time we go to the city!

Old fashioned with exceptional food

By Manuelq57 |

This is an old fashioned restaurant in all sense of the word, a throwback to restaurants with wood paneling, long bar, well dressed and groomed servers. From the moment we entered the restaurant you feel welcomed, with smiles everywhere and a genuine warmth that makes you feel you are a regular to the restaurant. Only one server I observed had a sullen face, perhaps a bad hair day for him. The menu is massive. There is the regular menu and the menu of the day, which offers many options. It took a while to navigate through all the tempting options. After ordering our appetizers, they served us with a basket which had 4 types of bread, crumbled cheese, olives and salumi. That was a meal by itself. In spite of that, we ordered fried calamari and and mozzarella en carrozza. Both were good, as expected. For dinner I had the veal chop parmigiana, a nice size veal chopped pounded very thin and covered with an exquisite cheese and red sauce. A friend had a summer dinner, which basically is a mish mash of many things, including braciole, sausage and many other things. The shrimp scampi was light and very tasty, with a side of angel hair pasta that was cooked to perfection. Someone in our group ordered the braised short ribs with fried gnocchi. The meat was perfect but she was not too thrilled with the fried gnocchi. There was no room left for desert at all!!! Worth the trip, worth the price

Italian restorant

By anatoliyr239 |

That place keep class. So, if you like Italian food, that place for you. Expensive but not overpriced.

BEST Food in Brooklyn

By Michael H |

Michaels is by far one of the best restaurants in Brooklyn. The food is healthy, hearty and fresh. Being a lover of Italian food, I honestly have not found anything anywhere else that compares. The Resturant is immaculate, the atmosphere is elegant and the staff are always professional. I deserve a free meal after this review!

Huge portion, great service

By Hirashiki |

A good friend of mine recommended Michaels to us. The restaurant is located in a neighborhood called Marine Park. Locals love to go there. I had the Chilean sea bass. The fish was so tender and buttery. It almost “melted” in my mouth. My husband tried the rabbit. He said it tasted somewhat like chicken. Our waiter was very attentive but not intrusive. It was great. We will definitely go back.

Going home to Brooklyn

By Margaret G |

it's been a minute since visiting Michael's. Food, Service and Atmosphere were excellent. Will be back again soon. Highly recommend.

Classy Italian

By EddieOnTour |

We were invited to this restaurant by our USA cousins who eat here regularly. What a great restaurant and proof that you don’t have to go to Manhattan to get a classy Italian meal. We had a mixture of starters everything was excellent. I went with the lobster with diavolo spaghetti. All our dishes were excellent and we will definitely come back here on our next NYC visit.

Michael’s

By Ninette B |

Great food. Pleasant atmosphere. Didn’t rush us out. Enjoy it all. We had appetizers to dessert of course.

My favorite restaurant!

By kristen b |

I was there last night with my husband, and it was spot on! Food was excellent as always. And the chef came over to say hello, which is always a nice touch. You can't go wrong with Michaels of Brooklyn for a great meal and a wonderful night out. I would give more than five stars if I could!

Love this place!

By BKExplorer |

I used to admittedly pass this place often in my way to the Belt Parkway or Kings Plaza, and it wasn't until a date introduced me to it that I discovered what I was missing! Now, it's our "go-to" spot when we don't feel like trying to figure out where to eat. Great food, great service, and great view - what more can one ask for!

Worst experience for a gathering

By Ricknite |

First of all, we were a large party of cousins getting together. We sat 45 minutes before giving our orders. The room is packed and noisy. The one waiter for our area was over worked as there were several other large parties. You didn't feel good about being here. The food was very mediocre. Nothing special about the sauce. No one had anything of our party of 14 that they would care to have again. The best person to be in this packed place is just the owner racking in the "dough". Speaking of the dough, they said these people have a great bakery. My brother ordered the strawberry shortcake. It was awful and he left it over. Strawberry Jam, nothing fresh and not good whipped cream. I wouldn't go to the bakery either.

Almond Biscotti

By The Five Road Trippers 🚙🎡🎢🧳 |

I picked up some decadent biscotti at their bakery across the street. My parents told me about this establishment and they have eaten here as early as the 1970s. I picked up the almond biscotti. It had plenty of nuts and a nice sweet vanilla/cinnamon flavor. This flavor will definitely compliment a shot of espresso beautifully. I did take one star away as I felt that the biscotti was too hard to be eaten without dipping it in a cup of coffee. Still a solid score. Everything else in the store looked delicious. This is a true Brooklyn Italian bakery. Next time, I'll try the restaurant.

Mom and daughter date

By BKSweetie |

Wonderful restaurant with great food. Our server Gerry was so sweet. The wait staff was very attentive and made sure we were comfortable. My mom thoroughly enjoyed the bread. I recommend the lobster fra Diavola and the tiramisu. You will not be disappointed.

Wonderful!

By hilarieg413 |

We went to celebrate my birthday, not having been to the restaurant for well over ten years. We both had amazing veal chops, grilled to a perfect medium, and large enough that half of each went home. Salad, sides and drinks were great, culminating in a fabulous tartufo! Our Maitre D', Enzo, was elegant, classy, and the wait service was excellent. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, but we found it worth every penny! Enjoy!

Birthday Dinner

By Karen T |

We had our first date there many moons ago and decided to celebrate our birthdays there. Just as we remembered great ambiance, service and food! The owner always takes the time to stop and say hello to each table. So everyone feels like a regular. Thank you for such a nice night!

Old School Charm

By Ashley A |

Old school Italian charm deep in Brooklyn! Worth the trip (though keep in mind a car is the easiest way to get here). The bread plate to start is divine. The focaccia! The Smash is a showstopper! The Veal Alla Michael was very good too. Make sure you stop by the pastry shop across the street for a sweet treat (at a lower price than the restaurant).

Great dinner

By dolphi2306 |

we went to this wonderful Italian restaurant for dinner. what an amazing family atmosphere place. the food is out of this world and the service is phenomenal. from the door we were escorted to a nice table with delicious assortment of italian bread and cheeses and of course the olive oil and their pickled pepers. then the delicious dinner followed by the coffee. what a wonderful evening.. parking is limited and they have valet parking or you can park on the street. definitely we will go back.

Overrated

By luv2trvl09NY |

We met up with friends at MoB as they highly recommended the place. We made reservations ahead but the restaurant gave our table away since the rest of our party arrived half an hour late. It was understandable since they were packed that Saturday night so we just waited at the bar. When we finally got seated, our server brought out a charcuterie platter consisting of salami, cheese, olives and a variety of bread and crackers. We were starving so this was a perfect start to our meal. For appetizers, we ordered the hot antipasto, the mussels and fried mozzarella. The mussels was cooked in their signature sauce and was delicious. The mozzarella looked more like French toasts when served but was good, as well. The hot antipasto consisted of squid, shrimp, clams oreganato and scallops. The seafood tasted fresh but at $20 per person, the price was pretty steep and not worth the splurge. For my entree, I ordered the chicken a la Michael. It was a bit of a let down since the chicken lacked flavor. It was dry, over cooked and the presentation was not aesthetically appealing. I had a couple of small pieces and gave up. My husband had the veal chop Parmigiana. It was quite impressive in size and was smothered with sauce and mozzarella. He thought it was pretty good. For dessert, we each ordered espresso or cappuccino and shared the coconut cake and hot chocolate cake and the complimentary biscotti. They were all okay. As for service, it was very slow all night. Our dinner took almost four hours because we waited awhile in getting the appetizers, entrees and dessert. We just made the most out of it by catching up with our friends. The ambiance is old school Italian restaurant serving the typical Italian fare to a much older clientele, if not families. Overall, the food was average at best. The price point was pretty high especially for this part of Brooklyn. We’re glad we tried it but I don’t think we’ll be back.

Our FAVORITE Place

By biz_Travelor7 |

We are at Michaels every chance possible. Everyone we bring loves it as much a we do. Everything is GREAT. The soups, salads, THE BREAD !, Every entree whether fish, pasta or meats are all always perfect. They make terrific veggie dishes too, with their unbelievable sauces. The wife insists their putanesca is the best in the world. Just notice how happy everyone is to be in the restaurant. If your in New York, come to Brooklyn for the best Italian food.

Authentic!!!!

By Vana823 |

This restaurant by far has been one of my best Italian restaurant visits. It starts with the live classic piano music as you walk in to the greet. Not least to say the service and the food!!!!! I gotta say the bread they put out on the table u don't get that no where. All the choices.... You must go to see what I mean....oh yeah I forgot to mention they make their own sauce. Best part it's close to home :-)......salute🍷

Smash Job Veal Chop

By Stan Tecza |

Friday lunch was a crab cake appetizer and smash job veal chop served with steamed carrots, string bean & potato croquette. Bakery goods at their bakery across the street consisted of cannoli, Black Forest In a mason jar & la cassatine.

Best night ever !!!!

By Stewiee84 |

Me and My Husband decided to try out Michael’s for the ball drop on New Year’s Eve 2024. We had the best night of our lives here. The food was incredible, The service was amazing and the place was packed and fun. We also didn’t want to judge this place by this one night considering it’s New Year’s Eve, and it was packed and it could be a little hectic and crazy because of the holiday, but they did not disappoint at all. We are still talking about how amazing this whole experience was. The whole feel of the restaurant was just perfect. The food was absolutely fantastic, and everything came out in perfect timing. Our waiter John was outstanding and made us feel very welcomed. There was live music which made the night even more perfect, and the decor was phenomenal. I also love that we could get very dressed up and how classy this place is. We will be returning on January 20th for my birthday celebration. 🎉 and I can’t wait.

Best Sauce

By kathleen s |

Honestly, all their sauces will please you, but I go nuts for their home made vodka sauce. It's served on penne pasta that done perfectly, not too limp and it's pink and tomato-y. All their parmagiana-s are good, veal chicken or eggplant. You can't go wrong with this place, they're one of the best Italian restaurants in New York City. located right here with us on Avenue R.

Our favorite restaurant

By Maria G |

Michael’s Restaurant is our favorite place. We invite friends, take our children and go as a couple. From the the appetizers to dessert, there is so much to choose. The food is always fresh and recipes are traditional. The food is always amazing and delicious! Most importantly, leave room for dessert!

Good Pizza

By Paul N |

The pizza was fantastic with a crispy crust and rich, flavorful sauce. However, the pasta was not for me– overcooked and lacking seasoning. Great place for pizza, but I'd skip the pasta next time.

Great Find

By Ksenya |

This is a nice little place, the food in this restaurant is really great. We tried appetizers, side dishes, entrees, everything was simply delicious.

Absolutely Terrific

By biz_Travelor7 |

We visit Michaels regularly, as do most folks. It’s the best Italian Restaurant in Brooklyn and one of the best, if not THE best, in New York. In fact, it was on Travel Channel and the Food Channel as one of the 5 best in the country. They have an extensive menu, but are happy to make your dish however you’d like it. Owners are there every day for every meal. Apps: We love their Butternut Squash Soup, their Michaels Salad (have it frequently as my entree) Eggplant Rollitini, Squash Flowers, Fava Bean hummus with Portobello mushrooms. Really everything Their fish is Always excellent, and they sell A LOT of it. Even their steaks are excellent. Of course all Italian dishes are perfect. You get the idea, you’re gonna love it here as we all do.

Like Momma Used to Make

By Michael P |

Being from an Italian family, I dont usually like to go out for Italian food because it never measures up to old school family cooked meals.... Until tonight, I don't ever recall feeling so welcomed or so well served in any restaurant. We were a table of 8 and we never ever waited for anything. My water glass never got below half full. My son ordered an item that wasn't even on the menu and they were happy to make it for him. The wine, the apps, the entrees and deserts were all excellent. The owners stopped by our table more than once to ensure we were enjoying everything completely. Go and bring the entire family, take your time to enjoy the food, the service and the atmosphere. It was completely reminiscent of being at Grandmas.

Mom's 90th birthday

By Lynne M |

We celebrated my mother's 90th birthday at Michael's with a luncheon for 24 people. It was as perfect as could be. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, the setting was lovely. There was not one thing I would have done differently.

Decent Italian Restaurant

By neilb119 |

There was much we liked about Michael's. They have a beautiful venue, a professional waitstaff and pretty good Italian food. We visited on a very busy night during which the waitstaff could not keep up and as a result after an attentive start things went downhill with long waits for food and check. That said, our food was very delicious as was the dessert that I assume came from their bakery

EXCELLENT ITALIAN FOOD

By coby24 |

The place is run like a top. The service is wonderful and the food is excellent .They seem to care about their customers and want to make your feel like you are eating in their home. I do not frequent the resteraunt but upon entering they made me feel like an old customer . I had the fisherman platter in a fradevala sauce with a lobster tail . It was excellent and i would recommend it highly . other people in my party had veal chops and shrimp dishes .All raved . If you like seafood their is a seafood combo as an appetizer that is wonderful . Would recommend .We have been there 4 times and it has never dissapoint . I hear that their take out place is across the street and it is supposed to be very good

The BEST, Just The BEST.

By BrooklynCapo |

Why do I love Michaels so much- its not just the food, not just the atmosphere, not just the service and the attention to detail. It's the combination of all them. Just try the on the bone Veal Parmigania, and tell me I'm not right-the BEST. I love the vibe, the smells, the sauce, the little things they do-I love it all.

Excellent service, excellent food,nice ambiance

By mentldentl |

This is not your average Italian restaurant. The food was freshly prepared and delicious. The service was great , they don’t stop a minute. When we visited for dinner there was a live pianist that rounded out a perfect evening. They really go out of their way to deliver a memorable experience . It seemed that most of the guests were regulars . You can’t go wrong with this place .

Always FANTASTIC !

By biz_Travelor7 |

This is a fine dining restaurant with white tablecloths. It’s one of the best Italian restaurants in THE COUNTRY! You’ll love everything, of course the food, but the service and the good time ambiance as well. Of course fantastic Italian, but they serve A LOT of fish. It’s always fresh and terrific. Their steak is fabulous too. Try to save room for dessert.

Classic

By Unionmom4 |

Wonderful service, always excellent food. Top notch seafood-have the shrimp crab and avocado salad, enough to share or as a light entree. The specials are always wonderful and special requests honored.

Only Get's Better and Better!

By Lisa Garcia |

What other restaurants can you go to and sit down to a warm basket of amazing bread, Grana Padano Cheese,& Sliced Thin Salami, Oh and let me not forget the olives. I have been coming here for years, and the atmosphere and food never disappoint. The portions are plentiful, and I never leave there without taking home leftovers. The deserts can be shared and are downright decadent. If your travels find you in Brooklyn, going to Michael's of Brooklyn is a must. Anyone who claims the portions at this restaurant are small must have been at the wrong restaurant.

Great Old-Time Red Sauce Italian in Brooklyn

By ParkSlopeDude |

Michael's is among the last of the original Italian restaurants in Brooklyn. It is part of a vanishing breed. The only thing working against Michael's is its location, deep in Brooklyn and not easy to get to even for veteran New Yorkers. But when yoiu get there you're in for a treat. Order anything on the menu that looks good and you'll leave satisfied and happy, There aren't any culinary miracles or groundbreaking new dishes at Michael's. Instead you'll get the authentic experience of an old-school Brooklyn Italian restaurant. It is worth the Uber fare. Try it.

Good traditional fine Italian dining

By cathy d |

Fine fare and dining. The exterior leaves much to be desired but the food is always a winner.Appetizers are sumptuously served. They don’t skimp on quality or freshness ; and it shows.

Try it.You'll like it.

By john c |

Miichael's is located in a residenital area of Brooklyn. It has valet parking but on street parking spots are readily available. Upon entering we were immediately greeted & seated. Our waiter was right there taking drink orders and discussing specials. In addition to a selection of breads they also supply a complimentary dish containg olives & high quality salami& cheese .The waiiter suggested a calf's liver appetizer which I ordered. It was great. The sweetness of the liver was contrasted by a brown gravy redolent of onions and balsamic vinegar.

Best Italian food!!

By BayRidgeGal |

Just had a superb lunch. We started with eggplant rollatina appetizer big enough to share. I had the veal masala entree, made without salt ad O requested. My friend loved his flounder. We shared pistachio tartufo for dessert. Everything was fresh and delicious, from the bread with cheese, salami and cheese to decaf coffee. The Food Network rated Michael's as one of the best Italian restaurants in the country, and I agree. Service was excellent. Go for lunch when there are fewer diners and room in the parking lot. Otherwise, there is street parking close by.

Old style Italian

By Fb2475 |

By far it's not the classiest looking restaurant, old-time charm all male waiters. But the best food around fresh home made posta, meatballs are great cheese and meat platter is fantastic. Go and enjoy some real Brookly food and service. You won't regret it.

Not at all worth it.

By ByAirByLandBySea |

Not at all worth all the high reviews. Service leaves a lot to be desired, the food is underwhelming to say the least. Skirt steak was flavor less and way overdone. Waiter didn’t seem to care, that is - once I actually caught him. Not coming back. Not worth it. Go elsewhere!

An elegant setting. Meticulous service and incredible flavors! Don’t miss michaels. From an Intimate dinner for two to a family style gathering there are accommodations for everybody

Momma's birthday party!

By AnnieP2016 |

e had a birthday luncheon for my mom there. It was pretty decent in décor, clean and the wait staff was very nice -- on the ball!!! The food was good, and since we had about 30 people (give or take), it was amazing that everything turned out good. Usually with some places and big groups, some order gets lost in the kitchen, but not here. The food was pretty darn good too. They provided us with the cake as well, and that was delicious! They also have a full bar. It's worth the trip, especially if you have a group.

A Brooklyn Tradition

By John D |

The atmosphere was great . The servers were extreamly attentive and the food was exceptional . Overall it was a lovely expierence and truley gives the diner the southern Italian Brooklyn experience .I had the veal chop and my wife had the salmon . We had an order of pasta with plain marinara sauce -Exceptional .Well worth the ride to Brooklyn

Lady traveler alone

By Pat21Albany |

Wow as a lady who travels alone for business always looking for a place that is not only outstanding food and service but comfortable . Michaels of Brooklyn meets all these requirements . Dined there on a Wednesday evening ---service was impeccable waiters in suits---- Enzo was just the best. So kind to me when he realized I was alone . Ambience is great, piano player at the bar ,kicked it up oldschool food wise . A to die for salad with goat cheese and a delicious vinaigrette, cheese ravioli, a cannoli and a glass of percecso. I would definitely return here anytime I was in Brooklyn and recommended to folks as well .

Always Great, we are there every week

By Joe D |

They have been cited as Top 5 Italian by Food Network. Their menu is extensive, but they will make almost anything you want. Owners are there all of the time and in the kitchen, staff are all great. Everything is great, Best Putanesca on the planet, I can write forever about everything from the bread to the fish to the biscotti (which even were taken into space), but look around and every table is having a ball I entertain many folks that come to New York. We always bring them to Brooklyn just for Michaels. Better food and service than anywhere in NY

Delightful and Energetic

By Barry S |

My wife and I came in early at 5 PM and it was romantic, nice and quiet. By 6 PM, nearly the whole place was full but the ambience was enjoyable to watch all the other guests. Food was very good and the service was great and friendly. Even though busy, no one was rushing us out the door to leave and every table looked full. We will definitely be visiting again.

You Must Go!

By Cathy S |

The most incredible food. Service is top notch and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. Beautiful bar! If you’ve never been, it’s worth the trip from near or far!! They really know how to make you feel like family!! We will definitely be making the hour trip back here real soon!!

awesome food even with the toothpick

By Alicia T |

first let me say we had an incident with a toothpick left in the food which did puncture my husbands mouth and he did go to the urgent care to remove splinters...even so sorry to say the food was good enough that we went back several times. Michael's is the best authentic Italian food better than my aunts which really really says a lot. if you are looking for an very good meal they definitely know what they're doing as far as the toothpick i guess everyone makes mistakes.

Very pleasant surprise

We're from Miami and were visiting in Brooklyn. So I searched online for the top 10 Italian Restaurants in Brooklyn. Michael's of Brooklyn was first on the list and they were right! very nice atmosphere with live piano music. we waited at the bar for about 20 minutes before our table was ready, they gave us olives and cheese, and bread and butter. Bartender was very accommodating, and so was the waiter. food is excellent. Not being Italian, we were amazed, that there were so many Italian people at this place, then we realized, "these Italian people know where to go for their best typical food" Very reasonably prized, good wines.

Top shelf

By Lenny D |

Michaels is a top shelf restaurant for both food and service. The ambiance is also top shelf. We particularly like their wine selection.. From appetizer to desert, you’ll love every bite. Be prepared to pay for what you get. Michaels in not McDonald’s

Not what it used to be!

By Stefan L |

I have visited here many times with family and friends. The food was never impressive, however it was usually good. Service, which was very good, has become sloppy. Now,it has become one of the most expensive restaurants in Brooklyn. On our last visit with friends, John our waiter, who knows us by name, forgot to place two orders, they came after the other six had just about finnished. To make it worse they cleared the table taking the silver ware so they could not eat there entrees. Calling over the owner got us a "sorry"! John, the waiter did not appear until desert. It will be a long time before my friends and family return. Something like this should never happen to anyone, in any restaurant. For this to occur to well known clients is inexcusable.

You will not be sorry you went here

We have been here many times. The food is consistently good and authentic. Do not hesitate to go here.

Best for a Reason

By FlatbushJoe |

This joint is annually listed among the top Italian restaurants in New York. Why? Food is excellent, ambience is excellent, service is excellent, and they got a parking lot. What more do you want? Been going here monthly for years with the Mrs nd my bestest pal. Veal scallopini marsalla to die for. Ditto the ravioli. I could go on. Hate to upload this review because it's just gonna make it that much harder to get a table. But what's right is right.

A Special Occasion Restaurant!

By Beagle246 |

The atmosphere, service and food are all excellent. It is pricey, however. Go to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, graduation or something significant. You will enjoy.

Amazing food

This is an establishment that has been around for years. We love going to Michaels to celebrate birthdays or just for a Sunday night. Not a lot of Italian places left in Brooklyn that are authentic. Great food and big portions. Come out to Brookly and visit Michael's it is worth a trip.

Date night.

We were seated at a nice corner table for two. Our server was very attentive and our meal was quite good.

Our fourth annual holiday family dinner.

By John C |

I really believe that Michael's gets better every year, even though it's so good there's very little room for improvement. We went on a Sunday night in December and it got slightly crowded around 6:30 pm. Gregory was our server and he did an outstanding job. He was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. He was there when we needed him, but wasn't hovering. The red sauce is awesome on whatever they put it on. I got the veal parm with a side of penne. You know how most Italian restaurants use a different sauce on the pasta sides than on their main courses? That sauce is usually cooked less and uses cheaper tomatoes that are bitter. Well, not Michael's. Same sauce on everything. Go there. You won't regret it. Just bring an empty stomach.

Wonderfully delicious food.

Food delicious and generous portions. Staff friendly and helpful. Lovely atmosphere in a neighborhood restaurant near home. Onsite parking a big plus as well.

Excellent experience

By John C |

We went for dinner on a Sunday night and it was crowded but not crazy. The restaurant is classy, the wait staff is excellent and the food is delicious, especially the Sunday Dinner which consists of penne, meatballs, sausage and braciole, all in a meat sauce. The cookies and cream Tartufo was also by far the best tartufo I've ever tasted. Michael's is a little expensive but not terribly so and it was worth every penny. The valet parking is a godsend also. All in all, a great restaurant experience which we will repeat soon.

Disappointed s

Our meal was very mediocrely, which was very disappointing for such a high rated and expensive restaurant.

Italian food you wish for!

By ricksplace44d |

We have been eating Christmas Eve dinner at Michael’s for years. True home style Italian dinner and excellent service. The owners make you feel special. We also eat at Michaels during the year with the same attention given on the holidays.

couldn't be better!

We went to Michael's twice, with a toddler in tow. The food was excellent, and they made the whole family, including the little one, feel welcome. We all appreciated that very much.

So delicious

By Bijslim |

We frequent Michael's all the time. Tonight we were celebrating our anniversary. We wouldn't think of going anywhere else. After a drink at the bar, we were escorted to our table. The very generous bread basket and dish of olives, salami and Grana Padano cheese were served. We shared the goat cheese salad to start. My husband had the broiled veal chop with onions and hot cherry peppers. I had the cold lobster appetizer for my entree as I wasn't especially hungry. It was perfect. That left room for a cappuccino. The always delicious biscotti is served even before the dessert was ordered. John, our server, was spot on as usual. Our friends had a shared salad, zucchini flowers and calamari to start. The smash job ( pounded veal chop parmigiana) and Bronzino rounded out their meals. A side of fresh vegetables is served along with most entrees. My husband and our friends enjoyed a bottle of Robert Foley Pinot Noir. I am not a fan of wine but they seemed to really enjoy it. We had a great time and especially enjoyed John's rendition of Happy Anniversary! Thanks John.

Great for having a special birthday event if not far from there

By SteveinPhilly |

I drove the (nearly) 2 hours into Brooklyn yesterday (from Philadelphia) for a 70th birthday party for a friend. I was really impressed with the meal and the staff. The restaurant isn't huge and noisy like Carmen's in NYC and I liked this. We had the meal at 1pm on a Sunday and the place was nowhere near full. They gave us one long table for 15 people so only some of could converse with each other. (I did see that they have a private room that looked like it seated 14 or so downstairs but that must have been booked. Actually it might have been noisier down there. The service was just great with servers watching out for our needs. I had a wonderful portobello and white bean app and the Short Ribs and fried gnocchi for my entree. The Short Ribs melted in my mouth and there was a substantial portion. The Gnocchi weren't as exciting. They were somewhat dry. I think it's the concept, not the execution. Across the street from the restaurant is their bakery and take out. I stopped to buy a small rum cake ($1.25 each - a real bargain these days) to bring home. Wonderful. They sell their jars of Pasta Sauce in the restaurant but I think it's pricier than stores or on Amazon. Just sharing the info. I would certainly go back if in the area but I really have no reason to be in that part of Brookly as I live far away.

Best Meal in Brooklyn

By M L |

We visited Michael’s of Brooklyn for a couples night out last week to celebrate our friends getting married. I have been there before and have never been disappointed. The food is always consistent, the staff is amazing, friendly and treat you like family! The other couples with us, are now in love with Michael’s as much as we are. Thank you for another fabulous meal and we can’t wait to see you all again soon! So worth the trip from New Jersey!! 💕

Great Evening with Friends

By jan c |

Even though my party was late, the staff treated us with the same respect as if we were all on time. The food was delicious. The wait staff, excellent. The service, fantastic. The food was a bit pricey but that was to be expected. Piano player in the distance an extra added touch. I ordered the penne al la vodka. Very good. My husband, asked for chicken instead of veal and there was no problem with that. The hot antipasto was filled with fish. I would have liked to see a little more variety but perhaps that was a different kind of order. Everyone seemed to enjoy the meal but it was the company that mad it great.

Outstanding

The best Italian restaurant in the tri-state area. I highly recommend Michael's of Brooklyn to anyone looking for a top quality Italian meal.

Excellent Italian Dinner, Beautiful Christmas Decor!

By SuzyQu15 |

We wanted to go to a festively decorated, good restaurant to celebrate the Christmas season. Michael’s was just the place to do so! We had made a reservation on a Thursday evening and were promptly seated. It was very busy but service was great. They start you off with a complimentary tray of roasted peppers, olives and cheese. We shared baked clams (8 to a serving). One entree ordered was from the list of daily specials, stuffed calamari. The other entree was the mixed seafood platter over linguine, which surprisingly included lobster. Both were absolutely delicious! At the server’s suggestion, we ordered a dessert of homemade hazelnut tartufo, the best we have ever had (I emphasize homemade!). Prices were on the high side, especially for wine and entrees, but you get what you pay for and this was worth every penny. Desserts and appetizers seemed more reasonable, as was after dinner cappuccino and specialty coffee. However, we thoroughly enjoyed what we feel is probably the best Italian restaurant in our area and highly recommend! Parking is available in the adjacent lot.

One of my favorites

It's such a pleasure to live within walking distance of Michael's. Everything they serve is outstanding. The service is exquisite and their wine cellar always amazes me. This is a Brooklyn treasure.

Brooklyn Standout

By Culture26588561492 |

From the moment one reaches the front door of Michael's of Brooklyn, top-of-the-line service is apparent, and family atmosphere dominates. There are so few restaurants in this part of Brooklyn that equal the finer Manhattan traditional favorites. Michaels is the exception. Whether meat or fish, the preparation is superb. I make a point of ordering the Rack of lamb w/roasted garlic every other visit. The Italian sauces (now sold in supermarkets) set the standard for natural ingredients the home-made way. Next time you see a jar, read the label. While it may seem a little pricey to some, it's not a fast food chain, it's the real thing, and in my opinion, worth it.
