Really nice food and good location. HOWEVER, this was all tainted by a very rude waiter who didn't care about the manner in which he served people. He forgot part of our order and after having to remind him twice, eventually got our complete order out on our table (which by this time our food already on the table had gone cold). He was also very arrogant whist we tried to pay the bill. Over all experience wasn't pleasant. The waiter in question really let's this place down and he should be sent on some sort of people skills training before being allowed to serve another person.

My wife and got off the bus stop and tried this pizza place as it was the first we came across. We should of went a few more doors down for better pizza. They pies were really small and had to much sauce and not enough cheese. The big bowl of parmesan cheese they have sat at the table next to us the entire time we were there. The waitress brought us our food and then vanished for a while, the other spoke no English. Soft drinks are in a can and you get no refills. By the time we left it was an expensive lunch and not worth it for authentic Italian pizza.

Our group of 8 sat outside and enjoyed 4 different pizzas and a couple of pasta dishes. All meals were tasty.

The food was pretty basic Italian food that was adequate. My eggplant parm was something you could get in frozen form and microwave. My wife's chicken was overly breaded and crispy - with little taste on its own. The prices were a bit high for what we got -- each of our entrees was $16 even though they were not large or good. But the worst part was our waiter. He walked past our table 10 times and never once looked to see how we were doing -- he was watching a TV on the wall. He never offered us grated cheese on our entrees -- everyone else in the restaurant was offered it. I had to flag him down to get a refill on water and a glass of wine. We waited and waited for him to clear our dishes and get our check. There are plenty of other better restaurants on the same street to go to.

Location is great with awesome views and the staff is friendly. The decorations are warm and welcoming. Being Italian myself I am very picky and the pizza was just OK if not disappointing but overall I had a good night with some chat with the manager :-) Unfortunately they cannot upgrade to a wooden oven because of SF regulations against chimneys under housing

The food at Michelangelo Caffe was very good and the staff friendly and service prompt all for a fair price.

Casual dining with a colorful night time view of Coit Tower. Our family strolled from Fisherman's Wharf to the restaurant within 15 minutes and were quickly seated. We scarfed down our fettuccine alfredo, ravioli and bolognese. And a healthy serving of spinach for virtue. Somehow we had room for dessert...make room for dessert. Amazing chocolate cake with ganache and a pot of bewitching chocolate mouse. Do it and walk off the excess!

normally refer to TA before having a dining experience in a new city, didn't and regret it ! my wife especially wanted to eat in North Beach Italy because we passed through in cab on way to our hotel chose this restaurant out of many - seemingly similar ordered gnocchi and a seafood fettuccine - accompanied by a bottle of house Pinot Grigo gnocchi with pesto sauce ? The sauce was overwhelming the dish - the fettuccine with seafood and a tomato sauce - sauce based on cream - rich and overwhelming - minimal seafood this review would have normally attracted a 3* rating - however the attentive waiter took the bottle of wine from the table whilst we were talking - bottle with perhaps at least a glass of wine remaining in it we asked that the wine be returned - which it was - it had been in the refrigerator - perhaps as a staffies after work glass of wine - very poor behaviour - very disappointed customers not recommended!

We received excellent service and food here. The pasta was so fresh and delicious! The location allows for wonderful people watching as it's located right beside a green space where people like to hang out.

For over 15 years, I have visited Michaelangelo whenever I am in San Francisco. There high quality ingredients and preparation have never wavered. The pasta is always perfectly prepared and the high quality ingredients make the food melt in your mouth. Modestly priced, two people can eat dinner for under $50. What also stands out is the delightful staff. The same many who waited on us 15 years ago is still there every time we've been. He is attentive to every detail and is the most gracious waiter I've ever had. He now has younger men - one whom we've watched grow from the small boy who was there so many years ago. The younger men are just as attentive and friendly. We sat out on the sidewalk for the first time and that was fun to watch all the people rushing by. Don't miss out on this place!

Great food, great atmosphere. Place where the locals go for homestyle food. We've been coming here for years. They have an excellent seafood Cioppino (prawns, scallops, mussels, clams and calamari in a light tomato broth) which we order every time.

we are a group of italian tourists, and we went here because we were exhausted of the american burgers & fast food! the atmosphere was really nice, the wine excellent, and the pasta tasted like in Italy...and the price was not expansive!!

We had previously eaten here on a prior trip several years ago and wanted to try it once again. A young man outside said his father made the pasta fresh each day as it is a small family run restaurant. My wife did enjoy her lobster ravioli and I had their lasagna which was just OK; however, we are not sure if we would return again as there are better choices within the North Beach area.

My husband had the ciopino and I had the fettuccine with seafood - shrimp, scallops in a tomato cream sauce. Both dishes were very satisfying. The pasta is really fresh and outstanding. My green salad was so, so but the mains were really good. Nice bread and olive oil too. I recommend this restaurant and love the Michelangelo decorations. Pleasant evening.

Friendly, attentive wait staff. Delicious food. Great people watching. In neighborhood full of fabulous restaurants Michelangelo's should not be missed.

Loved this cozy little Italian restaurant and it's interesting decor. Their lasagna was delicious, and I wish I could have had room for one of their delicious looking desserts. Service was good and the owner even went out and flagged a taxi for us afterwards. Highly recommend it.

The offer of a free appetizer got us through the door but we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. I had the spaghetti with white clam sauce, chianti, and the cheesecake. The clams were small but very tasty. My husband had veal saltimbocca which he enjoyed and the service was fine. The food was reasonably priced compared to many in the neighborhood.

My friend and I were headed down Columbus Ave. on a Friday night, November 14, 2014 toward the heart of North Beach, intending to dine at The Stinking Rose or Rose Pistola, expecting nothing less than a 3-star meal, probably 4-star or better, but Michaelangelo Caffe's shill engaged us in conversation and convinced us to come in, against our better judgment. The food was flavorless and mediocre and the service was slow. Even the cioppino sauce was bland. Even the sangiovese wine was boring. The shill promised a free meal if we didn't like it. We didn't, and my partner was bold enough to tell the owner so. The shill was at his side, and he said that if we didn't like it, we wouldn't have eaten the meal. Seriously! Like we're supposed to go hungry in North Beach? Long story short, ignore this place and I guarantee you anywhere else you go will be much better.

The place is small, but cozy. It's decorated with iconic statues of Italy, charming! The wines are good and food also. The parmegiana was delicious!

My wife and I just had a great meal here. We visited extensively with the owner, Salvatore, from southern Italy and his co-worker from Sicily. The food was great. We had the mussels and clams with wine broth as an appetizer. Great entrees and cannoli for desert. All was delicious. Equally fun was the restaurant itself. Beautiful artwork and sculptures. Moderate prices - great value. We would certainly go back again. Tell Salvatore, the guy from Houston said "Hello".

Located in little Italy area of San Francisco. Wanted to get a dessert at another restaurant. One of the waiters stopped us on the street. He got our attention. I was a pinch reluctant to give this place a try. The staff was patient and friendly. Attentive were the staff listening to our requests. Water was served and menus were delivered. We ordered a tropical gelato treat and a tiramisu. The gelato was smooth, the white chocolate crust was a nice, a unique blend of tropical fruit. The tiramisu was light, decent custard, and mostly balance. The cake was soft. Neither was overly sweet. Each were distinct in their own. Check was settled quick. Overall decent was this place. Murals and statues on walls add to allure. Bad this place was just okay. I would come here again with all things considering.

We were in Little Italy and so many nice restaurants where I wanted to eat but I was in desperate need of wifi as I was waiting for an important email. As it was getting late we passed by this restaurant where they guy outside invited us to try it and also said that there was free wifi. The whole team, from the owner to the waiters, are Italians and this for me was a big plus as these days many Italian restaurants are owned even from people from Pakistan. Bruschetta is complimentary, very nice, and you also separate get the garlic bread (try not to eat too much garlic bread otherwise you have no more room for the delicious food in the menu). I got tagliatelle al ragù and my girlfriend a seafood soup. Everything very nice until we get a "wow" tiramisu (I was almost in tears, it was divine). At the end limoncello and coffee; coffee kindly offered by the owner, a very nice guy which we exchanged some words with. The bill was normal for someone that goes out and know the restaurant prices. The Sicilian waiter, unfortunately don't remember his name, is definitely a great asset for this restaurant. I should go back in November in San Francisco and will definitely go back. Grazie mille.

I have a very yummy lasagne here. I had profiteroles for dessert; they were fine. They offer all the standards and likely the others are also good. Decent wine list. Reasonable prices. Decor is quite interesting. Staff is a bit pushy, however I think they mean well. Maybe it is because I don't like it when someone stands outside the restaurant and tries to talk you to coming inside. Although I was glad I did, I do tend to be wary of these sorts of establishments.

We had intended to visit another establishment but didn't like the seedy area and after driving around a bit, a parking spot opened right in front of this place. It was meant to be. They provided fresh sour dough bread to start and they offered us fresh bruschetta on the house. My wife had the tortellini which was very good in a fresh tomato and vegetable sauce and I the pasta with white clam sauce. This was unlike any pasta and clams I ever had before. The pasta, which was seasoned with garlic and parsley, was covered with about 25 tiny fresh cooked clams in the shell. I wish I had taken a picture to show you! It looked awesome! The owner took our order and served us, and it reminded me of being in a small family owned cafe in Italy. The prices were very reasonable, a great value for the area. Free parking on the street after 6PM. And yes, the young man outside was asking everyone walking by "Are you hungry?" I would definitely let them feed you!

We were trying to decide what and where to eat when a nice young man standing at the door asked, "Are you hungry?" We replied, "Yes." He responded, "Well, come in and let me feed you." It was a good decision. The atmosphere was cozy with lots of art and decorative light fixtures. The staff were welcoming and prompt. The home-made bread and pasta were excellent, and the prices very reasonable. But the best part of the meal was the home-made tiramisu. Wow. Definitely save room for that.

We were in a hurry to grab a meal and this was the only place without a wait. Should have known. Only thing I can say that is positive is that beer and wine are reasonably priced. The food was not good at all. Nothing tasted fresh, and if you are okay with grabbing the free gummy bears from the plate that has probably been in front of every guest that evening, then you must have a great immune system

We had a wonderful day in San Francisco visiting many of the local sites. Had a great time all day and it was ruined by a rude and belligerent waiter. The food was only so so but we could have lived with that if not for the attitude of a waiter who made our group feel unwelcome. When I mentioned the problems with the waiter, I was advised that he was the owner. Well, I don't know how that can be fixed. If the owner has such a poor attitude, what recourse could we possibly have?

Came here because Tommaso's was closed, but not exactly a runners up experience. Have been here before and it's awesome. This meal didn't disappoint. Party of three, everyone ordered something different and everyone swore theirs was the best meal. House chianti is solid, bread excellent and gratis gummy bears and almond cookies end the meal. Only complaint, and a slight one on a Saturday two days before New Year's, service was pretty slow.

I had purchased a groupon for two. So my daughter , son, and I walked several blocks up the hill ti get to this resturant. The reviews where good. We made reservations and when we got there we where escorted to the very back and seated. The waiter handed us our menu and we ordered and gave us a choice of two different deserts. Of course my son didn't have a groupon so we paid full price for him. The family that was seated in the next booth was told different entrees that was good to eat plus they where given better choices on deserts. And of course they want you to pay a tip on the actual full price. Which I always tip good whether I have groupon or not. It's according how our waitress or waiter serves us. The food was fair. But don't go here if you have a groupon, you will get poor service.

They had us at hello-- greeted us on the sidewalk and seated at a window table on a quaint street. Loved the Sicilian wine recommendation, complementary bruschetta, and ground sausage based pasta dish... Can't remember or pronounce name. Used a groupon and got a good deal with excellent service.

I will go back. We were pleased. The restaurant is well placed, small, comfortable, on a great corner with a good view of this North Beach intersection, Coit Tower and Washington Square Park. Our meals were quite good. My (real) veal saltimbocca was tender and tasty. My daughter had a very nicely done salmon. The recommended Sangiovese wine was perfect. The crème brule was as good as in Paris. The ambiance is Italian, quiet, and almost family like, reminiscent of a small town restaurant in Europe. For a tourist location on Columbus Avenue this was a find.

Had V-Day dinner with my daughter. Lasagna was excellent. Service was a tad slow (hence V-day) but the staff is nice. Cool atmosphere inside and nice patio seating to watch the people go by...

Given the reviews we had high hopes for this restaurant but we were really disappointed with the food, we had Parma ham and melon to start and the melon was very old. I had ravioli pasta which was swimming in sauce and lacked flavour. Service was good but the food needs to be improved.

This was a restaurant recommended to us and so glad we decided to go! We had a great window seat and enjoyed a wonderful meal that included lots of conversation with the owner, who also waited on is! The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Don't miss the dessert menu.....fabulous homemade (by the owner) tiramisu!

One of the many restaurants in the touristic little Italy – Chinatown area. Not bad and not particularly good. They will use charm and wit and do great efforts to get you inside. The effort to make you come back is a little less. Friendly, average food at a more or less reasonable price. An Italian as there are so many.

This restaurant was recommended to us, but we were not impressed. We had Chicken Marsala, Seafood Ravioli and Penne Seafood and none of us loved our entrees. I would definitely try another Italian restaurant in San Francisco.

We were convinced by the guy at the door that this was the best Pizza in town so we gave it a go. We ordered some drinks , of which half were forgotten so we had to remind them . The wait for the food was quite long. There was some king of conflict going on between the owner and the kitchen staff which we could hear from our table. The manager walked out not to be seen again which left the chef and I think maybe the owner trying to cover things. It was like something from a Gordon Ramsey kitchen nightmares episode,

the meals were very good. I would recommend the gnocchi which is made in house. There is also a Groupon available right now also for more savings.

The caffe is locatrd in a nice with partual view to Coit tower. Slow service. Tasteless and overpriced food in small portions. My wife couldn't finish her dish, it was literally tasteless, even a portion of mozzarella didn't fiz the situation. White wine was (in my opinion) deluted with water, very weak taste of wine. Will not reccomend to visit.

After deciding not to eat at Original Joe's along the way (too full and noisy for our liking) we spotted this little place and, chatting to the waiter outside, we were offered a window table and a great deal: free starters with our mains. Food was ideal after a long day sightseeing: standard pizzeria fare. Great coffee, too! The decor is insanely over the top - think Roman-ruins and the Sistine Chapel after a few bottles of Chianti! Great value food, super efficient and friendly staff.

Just down telegraph Hill in the Italian quarter, the service is efficient and the prices are correct, but the quality is sometimes very good (pizza) and sometimes bad (pasta) I tasted spaghetti carbonara and it was discuting ! , the desserts werer good.

Like all the other tourists wandering around SF we were looking for a place to eat that wouldn't break our pocketbooks. Prices are high for most restaurants in the area. $25 for a plate of pasta is about average - which I think is ridiculous considering what it costs me to make my own. Maybe $1.00/per pound? Michelangelo's is reasonably priced, great menu, well prepared, good quality food and portions to match. The fried Calamari was perfectly cooked - tooth tender and almost melt in your mouth. A must try for those who's sole experience with Calamari is the often served overcooked version that is tough and chewy. Service was excellent with personable wait staff.

Actually a rating of 1 is generous for this dining experience. My wife used to live in the city and always spoke highly of this restaurant. We brought a large group there last Friday and had the most disappointing meal. First of all, the service was among the most inattentive of any restaurant ever visited in my life. We had to basically tell the servers what we want to do next in terms of ordering food, wine, water, etc. They were rude any impersonal. They acted as if they were doing us a favor by allowing us to eat in the restaurant. Once we finally ordered, the food was mediocre at best. The seafood pasta tasted like the water had been used over and over to boil the fish products. They were out of the pasta that I wanted and so I had to order an alternative. I would not recommend Michelangelos under any circumstance. This place probably has been there for years and has enjoyed a regular clientele. They definitely are no longer a viable stop when dining in San Francisco. There are plenty of other places that are much better so I would stay clear of this place.

Had the feel of tourist trap but was marginally better than that . Location is good which is what fills the place . Food was tasty but not convinced the gluten free option was genuine as suffered afterwards. Play on once only tourist visitors

Simply stating that things change, here is no different... Less art on the walls, gone the germ filled gummy bears served ala big bowl style. Pastas are about the same everywhere so if you can have instant gratification and sit down without the Que experience then by all means enjoy.. The cigar bar x the columbus blvd a solid bet always.. lines form here and there's too much in the 'hood to waste time waiting.

Step in off the sidewalk and you are transported to Rome. The food is very simple comfort food but done exceedingly well. Service is prompt and friendly without being obsequious. Try the pasta dishes, particularly the gnocchi with bolonghese. Our waiter offered the table lovely almond cookies and the Italian version of gummi treats, as well as lemonciello. Excellent!!!!!!!!

Ordered pizza and pasta, pasta arrived 5 minutes earlier than the pizza which wasn't good, the food was also not good quality and then I noticed the manager or waiter stood outside with a menu trying to get customers to come in and face the same poor food as us... poor them!

Waiter told us he'll have a table ready for us so we told the other two people in our party who were waiting at another restaurant to come over, only for the table to be given away to another group. This was just as they got a table at another restaurant, and they gave it up to walk over. Waiter said we had to wait 20 min for our turn. In the end we were left with no tables. Did not get to try the food, don't care if it was good, was not willing to wait. Hopefully it wasn't as terrible as the waiter.

Visited when world cup on so plenty of banter, very friendly. Excellent food for the price bruschetta was really lovely & at the end of the meal had tiny almond biscuits which was so nice. Great Italian place to visit.

If you find yourself in North Beach with a young family, there is something for everyone at Michelangelo Caffe (not necessarily the case with the highly rated TA places). The ambiance made us feel like we were in a small caffe in Italy and the service was attentive and friendly. They brought out a very tasty plate of bruschetta after we ordered. We all thought the food was very good; my 13 year old said it was the best ravioli he had ever had, and he always gets ravioli. The big thing for me as the evening wore on, it seemed many locals who had been there before came in to eat. Lastly, the prices were reasonable compared with other places in North Beach.

Located on a busy corner opposite Washington Square, this Italian restaurant serves good food at reasonable prices. The atmosphere is friendly and the complimentary bruschetta at the beginning of the meal and gummy bears and almond cookies at the end are a nice touch. The menu offers the usual Italian fare with daily specials explained clearly by the friendly waiter in authentic Italian accented English. The house wine is easily drinkable and we were pleased to be able to order decaf lattes to finish the meal.

After viewing a great sunset on Valentines Day in Marin County my Wife and Daughter decided on Italian for dinner. We decided to give North Beach a try even though it was already 830pm. We asked for a table for four here and were seated in about 15 minutes. Service was a bit rushed while not being at capacity. I had the Cioppini. The sauce was great, and not too much. However there was no crab meat, with plenty of shell fish, shrimp, and scampi! Son In Law enjoyed his Sauted shrimp dish, and the Ladies both enjoyed their Raviolis in Lobster sauce. While there was nothing to complain about overall, it was also not better than average. In a last minute pinch they will get you in!

We were enticed in by the usher, advising his Dad had made the pasta by hand for the past 15 years. The service was friendly and unhurried, especially as the restaurant was completely packed out. The handmade pasta was tasty and filling, the Veal also looked excellent. When going to the restroom you do get to pass the kitchen and see the chefs at work, the food is great quality for the size of the place. The lights are on the outside of the toilets, so be prepared to be plunged into darkness if someone hits them by mistake.

Real Authentik Italian little Restaurant with great People and real fun servers! Food is with passion and the way it should be. Unforgetable Night..

Very friendly staff and attentive to customers. Offered recommendations and adapted orders as requested. Food was exceptional. Appropriate serving sizes. Environment clean, comfortable and busy. Loved the stained glass lamps on the ceiling which look like Tiffany glass. No reservation needed.

We had Pizza and Alfredo. I feel like original Italian cheese on pizza but Alfredo and Tramisu was very good.

Good pasta & sauces, tasty ciopinni, nice house salad. Generous portions. Friendly staff comped us a tiramisu desert and a glass of wine because we had to wait a little extra for our table. Every table gets gummy bears & ameretto cookies with the bill. What's not to like? Recommended.

Dinner was very good in this well established restaurant. There is outdoor seating as well as the indoor seating. The decor a little risque but colorful ceilings and classic "Roman" themed. Pasta always consistently good, salmon was well prepared as well. Wine fair, but good value, fair selection.

We never miss an opportunity to visit Michelangelo Caffe when we are in San Francisco. In fact, we have been known to fly to the City just to have dinner there! The service is great and the food even better. My husband loves the seafood dishes and as a vegan, I love their pasta marinara and the crostini is heavenly! The house wine is served in a ceramic rooster carafe; very novel idea. It is a busy place, but the wait if not usually too bad. The atmosphere is light hearted and fun. Parking is sometimes a challenge as North Beach is very busy. It is within easy walking distance from the Wharf or Embarcadero, or even Union Square. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

I’m not normally a fan of Italian restaurants in Australia where I live however we stopped in here on a rainy night walking back from Pier 39. The service was great didn’t have to even look for the servers they were there whenever you needed something. The food was fantastic and I gotta say the best Tiramisu I’ve ever had. I would recommend a visit to this place for dinner I had a good experience.

Very bad service and horrible food. Just stay out and spend your money elswhere! They include tip in the bill, so no way of letting them know ornfeel, that they should improve their service.

I had an excellent dinner in less than 45 minutes with a great lasagna and desert for 25$. The only issue is that the desert they call Coppa Catalana is not actually such thing, but is close and taste greate!

Made the mistake of believing the guy on the door that the food was excellent. My wife and I were seated by the large window near the entrance. We were given the menu but had to ask for the pizza menu which was printed separately. Decided to order from the main menu, lasagna and chicken parmigiana. Food arrived in just 10 mins. The lasagna was cold in the middle and had to be reheated. The chicken was bland with a watery marinara sauce. Service could have been improved. Needless to say we won't be eating here again.

I visited here with a couple of old friends. One was from San Francisco and recommended it as a non-touristy kind of place. The place was cozy and welcoming. The server was friendly and helpful and the prices were very reasonable. We had the gnocchi, ravioli and chick parm - all very tasty. The waiter was even nice enough to take our picture out side the cafe. We had a nice relaxing and unhurried dinner and enjoyed it.

Cute, quaint, authentic caffe in Little Italy. Crusty Italian waiter. When asked for recommendation he replied it was all good or it wouldn't be on the menu. Each had a veal dish. Both very good. Good portion size. Each served with broccoli and potatoes. We were satisfied so passed on dessert. With check he brought a plate of small amaretto EXCELLENT cookies and a plate of gummie Bears...not sure why but those too were really good. And it ended a nice meal with a smile on our face

The chef was so nice and kind, I received the best service ever in my life! And the food was amazing!. If you are in San Francisco, you should definitely go to Michelangelo's!

We went to Michelangelo Ristorante for dinner during our trip to California at the beginning of August. We had a really good evening. The owner Salvatore and his son Stefano (who has the same name as our son) made us feel like old friends. The food was great and the prices are more than reasonable. During dinner we talked and got to know Salvatore a little. He is a very hard working person. Thank you for everything and good luck!

We had trouble getting a dinne reservation on a Saturday night, but the hotel concierge recommended Michelangelo's and we managed to get in. The staff was very friendly and the menu is very reasonably priced. The complimentary bruschetta was a delicious surprise and our entrees were excellent. Save room for desert as the menu is certainly worth taking a look at after you finish the complimentary almond cookies and gummy bears. It's located in a very fun part of the city. We would definitely come back.

The staff, food and curbside seeing all make this a Grrrreat experience that you always remember. And did I mention the Gnocchi??? Tell the sever that Teddy said 1/2 & 1/2 on the sauce, you won't regret it!!!

When here on recommendation of a friend who was with me and I had a very nice meal. I had a very good pizza with sausage and mushrooms. Good crust, sauce and tasty cheese. My friend had a tortellini dish. The service was very good as well.Felt like I was back in Italy. Highly recommended

I'm here now. I can't leave without leaving a 5 star review. From the moment we sat down we have been treated like family. This is a family owned restaurant and I feel the vibe. The food was a bit pricey but this is SF, it happens. My lasagna was the best I have ever had. I'm contemplating ordering more to go... The cioppino was also delicious. We were treated to a free appetizer which never hurts. Fresh bruschetta! The server also brought free desserts after our meal for our girls because they were so well behaved. Who doesn't love that?!? I highly recommend.

This a small restaurant with great food. Four of us went and everyone enjoyed their meals. There was so much food, no one had room for desert

The atmosphere is cozy, the food is incredible and the service is great. Ate there 2 times in the 4 days we were there. The first meal we both got a veal dish. Both were outstanding . The veal melted in your mouth. And the sides of Broccoli with garlic and roasted potatos were great. Our second visit we got 2 orders of Gnocchi with the pesto cream sauce . Im drooling as im writing this. They also melted in your mouth. I would definitely recommend this restaraunt. I know its one of our favorites now. Thank you for a memorable meal !!!!

We went to Michelangelo Ristorante at the beginning of August. The service was amazing, the food was great, and the restaurant decor was beautiful! We would definitely recommend this restaurant to others!

We stumbled across this place for dinner while walking through the North End (Little Italy) part of the city. The food was good, the portions large, but the owner was so INCREDIBLY rude and not to just us. Getting him to check on our table for drink refills was next to impossible and when he did bring the food out, he literally tossed it at us. There are too many good Italian restaurants in the city to tolerate that behavior. We won't be back.

We had to choose from a row of restaurants on this block, and Michelangelo differentiated itself by having someone outside to invite people in. If you have nothing else to go by, the invitation makes the difference, and in you go. We saw it working on others in the same position. The food and service were fine, but not exceptional, and neither was the house wine. So if you are on this block looking for somewhere to eat, we would suggest you try somewhere else and you might strike lucky (or not, of course!)

Great food and service in a nice area! A lot of restaurants are pricey in this area this place has great décor and authentic food served with a smile!!

We love Italy and were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Food was authentic, service was fine and prices were reasonable for San Fran. There were four in our party mains were prawn risotto, veal with mushrooms, spaghetti with ragu and chicken Milanese. Everyone enjoyed the meal. A good authentic Italian experience and meal.

I went here with my family of 4. When we were finally seated and waited for someone to give us menus which took 20 minutes. The waiter came over he had horrible body Odor. We asked for water - another 20 minutes. We ordered our food. My husband and Sons wanted pizza the waiter made a fuss and said we'll let me see if we can still make it. This is while all the tables around us had pizza. He came back and said yes but it will be awhile. Ok so fine we were now invested in this place since we've been here forever. The waiter disappeared for a long time and my son flagged down the host. He asked for a sprite. The host rudely replied "ask your waiter!" We were so shocked that we thought for sure we misunderstood. After about 10 minutes the host walks by and my husband says just to clarify did you say ask our waiter? Or you'll tell the waiter? The host says well yes I did say ask your waiter. Well we hadn't seen our waiter the entire time. The waiter appeared and finally we asked HIM for the sprite. the host was so rude to my husband as well after we asked for a bill. He said ask your waiter. Well we don't have one replied my husband. No one has really been here. The host then says this isn't McDonalds! So rude. In fact McDonalds has better service than this place. Spend your time and money more wisely and Don't Eat Here.

Our family of five ate here on a busy Friday night without a reservation on a Groupon or Restaurant.com discount. We were lucky they took us in as the joint was quite busy, and for good reason. Everything tasted as if it were made from scratch and as tasty as any Italian food we've had in any of the 25+ similar establishments we've eaten at around the country. The waiter was courteous and attentive. The restaurant has somewhat limited seating but is nicely decorated. Be smarter than us, and make your reservation, especially on weekends. Although they charged me $27 as tip and weekend surcharge for the coupon, it still turned out to be a decent deal for tasty Italian food!

We were enticed by a gentleman standing out front of the restaurant exclaiming the great food. The food was just OK. The veal was tough, the chicken also, our party's pasta was just fair. There are to many great restaurants in the North Beach area. I would skip this one.

My husband and I came to SFO for our 10yr wedding anniversary and found this cafe to be very quaint and rather authentic!!! Nice change and the staff where very kind! Good menu and the gummie bears and almond cookies "on the house" for dessert were nice but the homemade tiramisu was AMAZING!!!

Excellent food and great service. We sat outside because the inside was too warm for comfort. I will go back again.

This is a cute little Italian restaurant amongst many others on Columbus Ave. We enjoyed the atmosphere as well as our meals. Service was very good and the olives at the table was a nice touch. We would definitely recommend Michelangelo Caffe.

Just had dinner last night at Michelangelo Caffe. It was the perfect combination of good food and wine, warm hospitality and charming ambiance. We particularly enjoyed chatting with the owner and appreciated his attentiveness to his customers. I'm looking forward to a return visit.

Nice place with an authentic feel. We liked it so much we ate there twice. Liked everything we ate. Reasonably priced. Easily accessible via several bus routes.

With over 4000 restaurants to choose from in San Francisco the only thing to do was ask for advice (many of the good restaurants are closed on Mondays apparently) and one of the concierges at the Radisson (at the Wharf) recommended Michaelangelo’s as it’s her "local italian" and she goes there quite often. When we arrived (about 8pm) it was empty - surely not a good sign and we almost didn't go in - but fortunately my empty stomach overruled my head and we were greeted pleasantly and shown to a table in the window. Service was very prompt as you would imagine (we were outnumbered 2 to 1 by the staff) and we soon had a large dish of excellent olives and a basket of crusty bread (complimentary) in front of us whilst going through the menu with the waiter. The concierge at the Radisson had also recommended her favourite dish, so, with so much to choose from, we both plumped for that,“Fettuccine con frutte di mare” - fettucine with a generous portion of large prawns and queen scallops in a tomato cream sauce. This came out with very little delay as we were still the only customers at this stage, and it was delicious. The waiter came back to check that we were happy with the dish and after we finished the chef came over and chatted until my order for the home made Tiramisu (large portion) arrived for dessert. By this time another couple arrived followed by two other small groups, all of whom seemed to receive the same good service and complimentary olives and bread. Overall a “very good” recommendation from us, both for choice and quality of food and for service.

Nice and authentic family restaurant. Great wine selection and the Tiramisu.. save some room for dessert!!!

Great food in fun location. Had family dinner to celebrate last night in San Francisco. Authentic Italian food for reasonable price, good service even though restaurant was full. Lots of choices in North Beach, highly recommend this for fun night.

We had been to Michaelangelo's 20 years ago as young dating couple, this evening we returned. Now married and with 2 other couples. Salvatore made it a fabulous evening to remember. Classic Italian dishes just like his grandfather made. Delicious. And served with the Italian charisma one can expect from a restaurant that has remained in San Fran for over 2 decades.

Perfectly situated in North Beach oppostie Washington Park.Great place for dinner .Small but with a warm atmosphere.Varied inexpensive menu, with a funny and friendly staff. The complementary bread, olives and bruschetta arrives quickly with your drinks. A must is the Fettacini Mari.I cannot say enough good things about this place ..

I just realized I was in Little Italy when I was walking in front of this restaurant and the guy at the door invited me to walk into it with an strong italian accent. That was the password. So, I did it. It's a nice but simple place. The menu offers several options of pasta and I chose a lasagna bolognese. There was also an antipasto based on bread and some bruschettas (free of charge). My dish was served quickly and the food was nice cooked and tasted like an authentic italian sauce. If you're interested in a simple, average price and tasteful italian food, this is the right place.

good homemade pasta and great bread. authentic and clean. only downside: server was hitting big time on the waitress

This place's food is pretty good. The thing that stood out to us was the hostess named Tony. He was extremely friendly and even helped the servers bring bread to the tables and a high chair for our son. You could tell he was a real go getter who took pride in his work. My lasagna was pretty good, not the best I'd ever had, but good none the less. Overall, I would eat here again if I am in San Francisco again.

we went there for dinner. my carbonara was good/ok. the ambience was nice and not too hectic. The owner, our waiter, was quite a character, which actually added a charm with his outspoken personality

I travel for business at least 100 days a year and I have been going to SF for 26 years rain or shine. I am Italian and to say the least picky about Italian restaurants. Usually I will not eat at Italian restaurants while on the road because I get disappointed. I end up always comparing it to mother's, nonna's or my own. That is tough company to beat. Even when I was stationed in Naples while in the Navy, I didn't like the food there for the most part. Now you know how selective I am. Michelangelo will not win any prizes for decorations or ambiance. You won't get fancy this or that. The waiters do not look like Al Pachino and there are no waitresses named Sophia there. What you will get is a good meal at a fair price. They bring out a bowl of Greek olives, bruschetta with fresh tomatoes and basil and a basked of fresh sliced crusty Italian bread. I can make a meal with that a glass of wine, some cheese and a little olive oil right there! All of that is complimentary. The house wine will not cost you an arm and a leg and is not bad. You are in California for goodness sakes good wine is every where! I am almost as picky about my wine as I am my meatballs if you know what I mean. I would order any and all things on the menu except one item - gnocchi. Don't order that here. I am sorry to say their gnocchi is the size of small pigeon eggs and hard as rocks. I have tried it twice and it was bad both times. Other than that the veal is wonderful, the fresh fish with lemon capper sauce is to die for. Now, I don't order pizza when I go to an Italian restaurant at all (see the first paragraph). So, I have no opinion on theres. After the meal, the waiter will bring out free cookies and gummy bears. So go and try it out.

Beautiful restaurant, food was amazing, service was on the ball, would recommend the gnocchi, visited from Sydney Australia and would definitely go back

We were walking around North Beach looking for a place to get some coffee. We stopped at Michelangelo and talked to the host, who was a very friendly Irish woman. We sat outside with our coffee and talked to her for a while. We decided to come back the next night for dinner. We found a groupon for the restaurant so we couldn't get the free wine with our meal but that was fine. The wait staff was friendly and efficient and we thought the food was quite good. It wasn't the best italian food we've ever had but it was far far from the worst. I would have given the review 5 stars but the waiter had some problems with the groupon and calculating the tax etc... which we had to help him with. Other than that, everything about the dining experience was quite good.

We had dinner on a Saturday night during fleet week and Dreamforce and this place did not disappoint. The city was super busy and although we were told the wait would be 20 minutes, we were seated within 5 minutes of arrival. The complimentary bruschetta and olives are certainly a nice touch. We were in San Fran for my mom's birthday and we asked our waiter for a tiramisu cake with candles. To our great surprise, they turned off all the lights of the restaurant, put on happy birthday music and had all the staff come around and sing to my mom. It was really great and really made my mom feels special. It also encourage people from surrounding tables to talk to us. Overall, this is a no frills typical italian restaurant where family is valued and where warmth is at the core of the place.

After a long day walking around Fishermans wharf we stumbled across this place as we walked back to our hotel. The gnocchi and papadelle boscaiola was delicious and the bruschetta was the best I've eaten.

A lovely Italian meal right at Washington Square. Lots of garlic in everything we ordered, but at least we all had the same vampire-resistant breath after dinner.

The food vas very good and also the pricing but the service felt a little rush and the place is not as clean as i would expect. Approximately 45$ for person for a full meal.

They put 25 USD "Service Fee" for a bill of 130 USD. When I said I am very surprised about almost %25 "Service Fee" they reduced it to 20 USD. The food was okay but I wouldn't recommend this restaurant since they try to overcharge to tourists.

I almost passed this narrow, cozy place up because of its name, thinking it would be a tourist trap. What a mistake that would've been. It's not a romantic spot to take your significant other but a great little neighborhood restaurant for a good meal. The friendly staff had my papparadelli out before I could finish the complementary bruschetta and olives. There was fresh bread and olive oil to augment the already generous portions. They have numerous wines available but I was unable to imbibe as I was on my way to work. I intend to return when I'm able to properly accompany my Italian meal with a good wine. There are plenty I good restaurants along this street and Michelangelo's certainly holds its own.

We enjoyed this restaurant, the food was great and the service was great! We ate there the last night they were open before they started a remodeling project. Hope they have reopened because it is worth a visit!

My kids and I have been going to San Francisco (2-3 hours from home) for over 10 years. This restaurant has become the reason we keep going back. We just schedule other stuff to do around our trip to Michelangelo. It is our favorite restaurant. It is situated in a triangular shaped suite that juts out onto the street so it's fun to sit in the window seats - you feel like you're out on the street and it's bright and airy. It's right across from Washington Square and a gorgeous catholic church. The staff is always friendly and efficient and carrying on with each other in Italian, so it oozes authenticity. My daughter always orders the spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs are huge and even though she tries to come in hungry, she still has never finished (she's 22 now). My son skips around the menu more and has liked everything he's gotten. This last time he ordered Penne Riviera (scallops, shrimp, clams in light tomato sauce and I have ordered the same thing several times. It's heavenly. The other thing I order regularly is Ravioli Di Formaggio (spinach and cheese ravioli in creamy tomato sauce). The pasta is cooked perfectly and the sauce is exceptional. It really melts in your mouth. All the dinners are under $20 and they bring a bowl of gummy bears and some crisp almond cookies after dinner. The kids love the gummy bears and I love those cookies! While we were waiting for dinner, they brought some toasted sour dough bread with fresh chopped tomatoes, oil and garlic on top. This sounds way too simple - but it was incredible. We all vowed to make the trip at least once a year - just to go to Michelangelo!

I've been visiting this restaurant almost every time I come to SF, and I can't believe it's been more than 20 years. I remembered they used to roll out a giant drum of cheese and serve/chipped it right in front of your table, and it was an unique experience. I have not visited SF in the recent years, this time when I went, they've stopped doing the giant drum of cheese for couple of years already, it was disappointing for the memory. I still love their food, and hopefully when I do visit SF again, they will still be here.

I think this was one of the more positive experiences we had as far as value and taste. I will definitely go back here when I am back in the area. Learned about this taking a culinary walking tour.

Called here for dinner , service was excellent, complimentary olives and bread, our pasta dishes were authentic and my sons pizza too, place was nice with a family feel and quite a buzz with a mix of couples and familys eating there, would certainly call again!

Visited this restaurant for dinner and very glad we did as the food was amazing, service was just as good and the food was quickly brought to the table. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere and great value for money. Would recommend this place to everyone who visits San Francisco.

3 couples went here for last day in San Francisco and were happy we did. This looks like a old Italian restaurant and every dish we had was great. Our table took s while to get so the owner brought us some wine and bread on the house, I had spaghetti and meat sauce, my wife had eggplant Parmesan, another couple had an Italian sausage and pasta dish, another had spaghetti bologonese and veal parmigiana, everybody loved it and for all of us the bill was $130 this was a great find and our waiter was great and the doorman helped us to get a parking spot I would definetly return to this pkace

We were lured in by an employee on the street but were glad we did. We had a lovely meal, washed down with a very pleasant chianti!!! The staff were friendly, not pushy and the food was very good. Hubby had chicken in a mushroomy sauce which was very tasty, i had the spaghetti carbonnara which was very good too. the tiramasu was yummy too. nice to go to a small family owned restaurant and not a large chain!

I discovered this restaurant 2 months ago and have been back ever since and everytime had an amazing experience. The pasta I had was al dente and cooked to perfection. The Italian restaurants surrounding it are far more pricier and definitely not in the same class of quality. The waiters are amazing and friendly. All in all the best experience possible. Can't wait to get back for my next visit.

These guys are the real deal! Every time we come out from the east coast, we always have, at least, one meal at Michelangelo's! Every time, they make us want to come back! All their dishes are awesome!

Definitely recommend! Amazing, authentic, fresh Italian food prepared daily by the owner primarily and his staff. Great service. Lovely little dining room lit with sundry Tiffany lights. We tried to entice them home to NC, but our annual one snowfall presented a barrier!

We visited here for a lunch after walking around Washington Square. We stumbled across it. We both had spaghetti and meatballs and it was delicious. The service is great, they topped us up with bread when we had eaten what we had been given. It was lovely looking out onto the square whilst eating. Would definitely recommend a visit.

This is a good italian food resaurant, but in Little Italy, San Francisco there is a huge competition. Decent meals and good service.

We walked by this restaurant on several trips down Columbus and noted that the menu showed reasonable prices. The aroma coming out of the door was also wonderful. I had the chicken parmiganno and my wife had the eggplant parmiganno. The house chianti was excellent as was my wife; proseco (at happy hour prices!). Great waiter and decor.

We visit Michelangelo's at least once whenever we visit San Francisco and have done so for years. It is never a disappointment. Great hospitality and excellent service. Good quality, authentic Italian food in generous portions. If you're fortunate enough to get a window table you'll have excellent views across Washington Square and of Coit Tower. And very good value for money too.

We were looking for an authentic Italian restaurant and this ticked all the boxes. We were greeted by the owner/chef who showed us to our table and also bought over our food, very nice and friendly. My wife had the penne pasta whilst I had a pizza. Both meals were excellent and the food is amazing value for money. Looking for an Italian restaurant look no further.

I was strolling down the street and was asked to come in by a wait staff who guaranteed me great service so I went in and ate a lovely dinner lasagna and everyone was speaking Italian and offer me very good service only disappointment they did not have cannolis he said because they have to make them fresh every day and they were not selling a lot of them but the food I received was very good and I would come back the prices were very reasonable in a great location inside Little Italy.

The place was full on Sunday and empty on Monday so we went in. The food was excellent as was the service. Prices were reasonable. I can only give three stars because this was the first Italian restaurant that I went to and left hungry. The portions were on the light side and kind of dry sauce wise. I'd be ok with more pasta and sauce, not meat. Those would be items that are super expensive to increase on any plate.

We stopped here to eat as Fisherman's Wharf was too busy and manic. After walking up the hills, we came to Michelangelo Caffe which was the first decent looking place on our walk - by this time our legs were fading, so we decided to pop in. We would have gone further if we weren't so tired. The restaurant wasn't too busy which meant we got served pretty quick. The service was efficient. My b/f had the seafood pasta, which he said was 'ok'. I had a spinach and blue cheese salad which was nice and refreshing, but could have done with a bit more than the sprinkle of blue cheese on it. A nice touch was the complimentary olives/bread. The interior of the restaurant was quirky, and it has nice views if you get a window seat. The visit was ok, but nothing outstanding, but then again there was nothing really big to fault. I didn't get offered a pizza menu, so maybe that's only offered at certain times of the day. As I'm vegetarian, it would have been good to have the option.

After a very long day of sightseeing, Hubby & I wanted a nice meal to finish off the day. We were recommended this restaurant by our tour guide and what a wonderful choice it was. From the moment we walked in to the time we left we were looked after and made to feel very welcomed. We were treated like family friends...smiles all around, very friendly staff and no request made by us was too much trouble for them! The food was delicious! Everything was tasty and very authentic italian - and the price was good too. We have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful, friendly family restaurant - Try it...you won't be disappointed.

Michaelangelo is a small restaurant right on busy Columbus Street. The homemade gnocchi with pesto cream sauce was good, veal piccatta only so-so. However, the Exotic Bomba was worth the trip alone. This is a sorbet of mango on one end, passion fruit on the other, and a dab of raspberry in the middle, formed into a egg shape, covered with white chocolate and drizzled with milk chocolate and served split into 4 sections....so yummy.

This restaurant was a great experience! We loved the atmosphere. The service was excellent, and so was the food. Free starters and free sweets afterwards was a nice surprice. We will eat here next time in SF!

The family owners are very warm and welcoming but it's the food that takes it over the top in an area of fantastic Italian restaurants. I highly recommend the Puttanesca which I had with spaghetti although it's with penne on the menu. We will definitely return!

My husband and I found this gem a few years ago through an Amazon local deal and now always make it a point to come back when we're in town. We love everything about it! The food is outstanding, the decor is cute, and the service is incredible. The delicious bread and the complimentary bruschetta are awesome, and then you're surprised with cookies and gummy bears at the end of the meal. What's not to love?!

We went with a group of 10. They were so nice and accommodating. The food is truly authentic Italian cuisine. We had such a wonderful experience and this family owned restaurant is a gem!

Young kid server was just awful - rude poor service skills - certainly shouldn't be working with customers. Food was mediocre a salad was drenched in vinegar which is their house dressing - wow- "house salad." Bread bland and dry. Server could careless clearly about wine order - couldn't get that right either. Their dessert was two dishes of one consisting of gummi bears and the other cookies which was delivered to as poor server dropped plate on to table while walking by and cookies spilling on to table. I will go somewhere else definitely next time!

This place was recommended by the bar tender of the hotel our party was staying at and we were definitely not disappointed! We had a party of 8 without reservations and we were quickly accommodated! The service was excellent and the food delicious!! Everything the bread, olives, bruschetta, cioppino, fettuccini, ravioli, tiramisu was great! The place is nice and cozy, although there were other customers in the place, it felt as if we were having a private dinner party thanks to their great service!

Just like last year, great food. Good variety and great service. Quick seating both inside and out on the sidewalk.

All I can say is WOW...Sit on the sidewalk and enjoyed the energy of the locals and tourists, alike! Celebrated my birthday with the Handmade Gnocchi with the Creamy Pesto and Bolognaise split...they did this split just for my birthday...Best I have EVER had...OMG...Amazing!!! Sit by the outside Menu Posting and told so many people about how AMAZING the Gnocchi was...They actually sold out that night...The manager brought out two complementary glasses of wine and thanked me personally!!! Bon Appetit... Teddy J

Stopped in North Beach on way back from Coit Tower after a tiring day of sightseeing. We were looking for somewhere with a relaxed atmosphere to eat as a family of 4 on a busy Sunday night. We were quickly found a table near the bar and didn't have to wait long for our orders to be taken. I had a chicken dish in white wine sauce which was very good and we all shared a large salad. The rest of the family enjoyed their pasta and pizza dishes. The decor in the restaurant really adds to the charm with the Tiffany style light shades throughout and the Roman style friezes on the walls. Overall an enjoyable dining experience and although there are more upmarket restaurants in the area I wasn't disappointed with this slightly more casual choice.

I found this restaurant while walking around North Beach looking for a place to eat that didn't require over an hour wait. I saw that it wasn't too busy so I walked in and was able to get a table, the service was very good, and the meal was excellent. It was so good we came back the next night again to have some more authentic Italian.....definitely recommend it.

I happened to find this caffe after walking through Chinatown (didn't see any inviting places there.) The staff is Italian and service and food are comparable to one in Italia. I was given bruschetta before the meal as well as candy and cookies with my check. They serve you delicious and generous portions of Italian bread and olives, too. I ordered a glass of wine and clams with fettucini (they offer spaghetti, but I requested fettucini instead.) The clams were fresh and abundant....molto delicioso! As stated before, the excellent service was welcoming and typical of trattorias in Italia. This restaurant had very economical prices and I feel it is a gem among the other overpriced and poorly trained staff in restaurants I visited in San-I want your money-Francisco.

Maybe the chef was having an off day as unfortunately our family thought the food here was mediocre! The pasta dishes were average, the sauce on the chicken dish was thin and watery and overly sweet and the pizza was hard - as if it had been sitting on a warming plate for a while. On the plus side, the service was ok, the atmosphere was good and the decor was interesting.

Walking to another restaurant, guy on the street with a menu convinced us to go inside for dinner. The service left a little to be desired at first. Finally we were waited on & from there on, the service was good. I'm a chardonnay drinker & they only had one to offer by the glass. It wasn't bad so I had another. I ate the tortellini & loved it. Almost ate the plate & all. I would recommend this place.

As we walked by this little Caffe, it appeared to invite us in for dinner. Gladly we did eat here in this charming place witch was full of Italian old world charm. The good was good as was the service.

Great for a casual meal. My wife and I had a long day and went into about 4 other Italian restaurants in the area. All of which seemed out of whack with formality and price. We walked into Michelangelo cafe and felt comfortable and able to take our time. One look at the menu let us know we were in a home made style restaurant. We shared a pizza and a pasta. Both dishes were great tasting. The quantity was more than enough and the price more that reasonable. Definite a place I would go again for a casual meal or an event with friends.

Delicious food (fresh calamari appetizer) prior to and convenient to go to see Beach Blanket Babylon in North Beach. Professional, considerate staff. Good for all.

This restaurant has a Italian menú. Food it’s okey according whit the prices . I ordered carpaccio de res was okey just a lot of oil olive . This place doesn’t have WiFi . People who work there were kind whit us

We dined here after a show ran late and were worried the restaurant would be closed. The friendly staff accommodated us with smiles and fresh house bread. Our daughters were famished and the appetizers arrived quickly; everything we ordered was delicious. Interestingly enough, I found this cafe as we were sight seeing much earlier that day. After wandering in and asking to use the restroom, I was shown the ladies room without hesitation. The interior of this cafe is spectacular; carvings and reliefs are everywhere and you'll be entertained simply looking around until your entree arrives. When the check arrived, we were given amaretto cookies and gummy bears. Smiles all around.

Tempted in by the offer of a complimentary glass of wine with our meal .Friendly staff who were very attentive and good service, Good first impressions when olives/bread/bruschetta brought to the table and they were tasy however our main courses of meatballs/spaghetti and gnocchi were nothing special and let down by the marinara sauce lacking in seasoning. Maybe we caught them on a bad day?

Excellent bruschetta, eggplant parmesan as well, at average to lower fees for the area. Smaller place, good atmosphere, alot of staff check ins to see food response. Would do again if in town.

We have stopped here on our last 4 visits to SF. Staff is friendly and the food is delicious. Save room for tiramisu for dessert. Best that we've had outside of Italy.

A very casual restaurant on Columbus Ave, a bit too warm inside. A combination of bench style seating for larger groups and some tables for 2-4. The servers were helpful and family oriented. The salmon with white wine sauce and capers was good but the seasoning was off to my taste. A bit too much lemon and not enough salt/pepper. The fish was certainly fresh. The Capellini al Pomodoro was average. The Cioppino seemed pretty good with fresh seafood. The Penne Riviera was average and light on the seafood. Complimentary gummy bears and amaretto cookies for dessert.

Quaint little restaurant in little Italy, serving authentic Italian food. Waite staff was friendly & professional. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting San Francisco!

Nice little family style owned restaurant in Little Italy San Francisco. Authentic Italian cuisine and staff offering great good at an affordable price.

The offer of free round of wine and appetizer for our party of four - brought us in (as well as travelling with a couple who had eaten here several times in the past). Awesome bruchetta and delicious pasta. We had a wonderful tasty meal. Charming decorations - strange bathroom location, but who cares. Would recommend the spinach/ricotta ravioli in the rose crème. Would not recommend the shrimp appy - only 4 shrimp for $11 (?).

Great food, great service. Food arrived piping hot, and was tasty and fresh. Delicious free olives and fresh bread.

I had a Groupon and from the moment we walked in had great service and good food first the brought us the Cozze c Vongole which were eonderful mussels wish i could have afforded a second helping also had bread olives and the tomatoes on bread then had Fettuccine Marce c Monti and my friend had the Veal Portbello everything was DELISH and then they brought out wonderful lemon cookies Gummi Bears and Lemon Cheese cake everything was wonderful and the Atmosphere just like we were in Rome and our waiter was wonderful fast thought very busy his name was Marc so we had a wonderful evening and would highly recommend this resturant the only thing that keeps it from being perfect is the lack of having a fountain soda but overall Wonderful

In many ways this is a "spit and sawdust" establishment. This is not fancy, but it's honest, wholesome and genuine. In SF you won't find a more reasonably priced place serving good food. The fresh pasta dishes are all great and generous. The service is attentive. My daughter was a little under the weather and wanted "Tortellini in Brodo" (broth) this was not on the menu but the owner made it ...saying it was not a problem and his pleasure to make. ... That's a nice touch.

Nice location and fast service, but apart from that, no. Tasteless and overpriced food in small portions. Michelangelo would not be proud.

My wife and I had a Friday night dinner at Michangelo's. We split an Antipasto Italiano appetizer and it was very good with lots of meats and veggies. Her entrée, chicken parmigiana, was quite bland and could have used some more aggressive seasoning. My entrée, Italian sausage and chicken, was likewise very bland and in need of more seasoning. The slice of white chicken meat was a generous portion, but there were only a few slices of the Italian sausage (the prime reason I ordered the dish). The accompanying veggies were prepared well. The waiter was very friendly and courteous. The prices are about average.

We have traveled around Italy before and this is a truly great Italian restaurant in the US. The service was excellent! They gave us a delicious bread basket with black olives and awesome butter. Then our seafood pasta was amazing! The coffee was also amazing, and they even give you some sweets and biscotti to go with it. In my few days visiting San Francisco I realized how expensive it is and how difficult it is for restaurant to give you anything for free, so I was very surprised to find that they give you all this extras here, and I loved it! Decent prices also!

What a terrible choice we made. If only we could have save the time and gone 2 min more down the street. Very pleasant and deceiving greeting by the "owners son". I will get down to it - ok select of wine for decent price, but, DO NOT order food. The caprese sallad was literally four thin slices of tomato and I could barely find the mozzarella. The italian pizza came out of the freezer, severely over priced and not italian style. The eggplant parmigiana was worse than a TV dinner. We are talking tomato sauce from a can, slobby eggplant and zero(!) seasoning. When we spoke to management then shrugged and smiled. Stay away! Tourist trap. Worst dining experience i have had in a lifte time. Fraud!!!

I came here for my Birthday with my partner on a groupon and couldn't have had a better night. We got the best service I have seen yet in San Francisco (I have been living here for 7months). The staff were welcoming and the food was delicious, not to mention the portions are huge, great value for money and plenty of little treats throughout the dinner....5 stars I will be back!!!!

My wife and I were walking around town looking for a bite to eat and stumbled bye Michelangelos. Tony the fella at the door greeted us and had us seated within minutes. There was a great selection of food on offer, the service was amazing with friendly staff. Pretty soon our drinks were served, and we were given some appetizers.... nice! Not long after our food was on the table to dig in to. The food was delicious, great Italian! Most of all though Tony went above and beyond service with a smile. As we were on our honeymoon, and we mentioned this during conversation, he suggested he took a photo of us to remember the night, however we had left our phones at home, so he suggested he take a picture with his camera and send it to us, which was so awesome and thoughtful. So to you Tony and Michelangelo's..... firstly you're the best, secondly you're the best.... and you guessed it... You're the best!

Very good!!! We ordered pizza.... basic one, tomato sauce, mozzarella and prosciutto was very good!!! If you order wine they give you olives and bread with olive oil and vinegar

This restaurant is decorated with lovely coloured glass light shades of all different colours and nice Italian sculptured plasterwork around the walls, giving off a relaxed atmosphere. We had a couple of very nice pasta dishes and the rosa red wine was also very nice. The service was very fast and efficient!

This is about as authentically Italian as you can get. A small restaurant with marble walls and reliefs, a small but attentive staff, and familiar Italian dishes. We got some complementary bread and bruschetta, and ordered the prosciutto: the bread was a bit old, but the bruschetta and prosciutto were excellent. Our group had a variety of Italian dishes: all were competently prepared, but nothing to write home about. The house Chianti was excellent. Service was very attentive and very friendly. I would recommend this restaurants for groups, dates, or business, but not so much for foodies.

It's my second visit to Michelangelo's. Very authentic and tasty Italian food. The owner helped me with my gluten free pasta. Everybody enjoyed their choices. Service was excellent and great ambiance. I will definitely return whenever I'm in San Francisco and highly recommend it.

We enjoyed the delicious Italian dishes here, and the generous sharing of the delicious Parmesan wheel on the night we visited. Highly recommend to couples, groups of,friends and families for a memorable evening.
Good
Went here for dinner several times. Great decoration. The food is good and tasty. Service is great also.
