Yumm!

You don't have a lot of kosher restaurants in Chicago. This restaurant is excellet, great food and good weitresses. Plus it's very close to the home to the Chicago Cubs.

No complaints

By Longrf01 |

I wasn't "wowed", but nothing was wrong. Service was a little on the slow side for 2PM. The start smoking meats at 8AM and they're ready at 4PM. If you order something that was smoked before then, you're getting surplus from the prior day. I had the smoked chicken half and it didn't seem to make any difference. We'll come back.

Loved it. Great for kosher people. Fine for non kosher individuals into beef ribs or meat

By Harris C |

Ate there 2 straight nights. Nice area of Chicago, Lake Shore Drive. Nice ambiance for kosher facility. Several nice sport venue screens. Excellent name. Efficient and helpful staff. Braised ribs were excellent. One of the better meals of my life. French fries, green beans, vinegar cole slaw fine to excellent. 1/2 rib 1/2 chicken meal fine..I preferred the chicken, my friend the ribs. Bountiful portions. Moderate to greater price. None of the 4 people I ate with over 2 days were kosher, all were happy.

Everything You'd want in a Restaurant

By Ilan H |

The food is delicious, the portions are large (some of the appetizers will fill you up), the wait staff is great, the price is affordable. And to top it all off, proceeds go to charity. This is my favorite place to eat. You need reservations though.

LOVE IT

I can’t stop coming back to Milt’s. The pickles they bring out before the meal are the best I’ve ever had. Much better than bread coming out before. The service is exceptional and all of the staff are very nice and knowledgeable. The food is absolutely killer. I usually go for the sandwiches. I definitely should explore the menu more, but I could eat here everyday regardless!

DO NOT ORDER THE POPCORN CHICKEN

By Popcorn chicken enthusiast |

The popcorn chicken at Milt’s was the disappointment of the century. I was so excited to find one of the few restaurants around with kosher meat and was beyond excited to see that they had popcorn chicken, as it tends to be a rare delicacy. However, to my great dismay, the popcorn chicken was just CUT. UP. CHICKEN. TENDERS. I was appalled and dissapointed to say the least with the uneavenly cut pieces of chicken that were clearly just chopped up chicken tenders. So with a heavy heart, I strongly advise you to not order the “popcorn chicken” as you will be greatly dissapointed. 💔💔

Best steak in Chicago

Milt’s is a meat kosher restaurant with excellent service and delicious food. The chef accommodated our request for dishes that were not in the menu and they were grilled to perfection.

Not worth the effort

By mayjoey77 |

I was unimpressed with Milt's. Actually, I was let down by Milt's. This is supposed to be a kosher BBQ but the meat was not the best I've had. The sticking point for me is how the owners run the business. I think they may take the "God's Chosen People" pronouncement a little too seriously. If you aren't Jewish, you won't get top service here. We waited WAY longer than the Orthodox Jewish guys who came in after us. We also waited longer for basic service. Water? Napkins? Silverware? Anybody? I understand that this is a family-owned business but when you close down, almost weekly, for a friend's private party, you're not really helping us as consumers know when the heck you're open. Sure. That can be a charming quality of a place...when it's a remarkable experience otherwise. But I just wouldn't bother with this place unless you were invited to a private party here.

Awesome!

By shfine |

Honestly, hands down some of the best BBQ I have had in a long time. Crave their brisket sandwich. Yum! Go!! Run!!

So good!

By DJS44 |

Love this place. The pulled chicken and the sauces they gave were fantastic! The service was great, they easily sent my food in a UBER I had requested to my hotel downtown.

Good kosher spare ribs!

By mpardc |

Second time at Milt's. Another excellent meal. Our group shared the assorted slider appetizer. A perfect way to sample the various meat options at Milt's. For our mains we had the burger, brisket, and spare rib sandwich. Everyone was happy. The sauce on the spare rib sandwich was a little heavy, it's better when they let you choose which and how much barbecue sauce to add to your entree. Great friendly service.

Amazing food

I loved it! its very clean and service was fast and very nice. i had the burgers and BBQ wings WOW loved it!cant wait to visit Chicago again

best bbq ever!

By EliE30 |

this was the best bbq we ever had the waiters were amazing i would recomend evrything but what stuck out most was the bbq ribs ,bacon and bergers there pickels and cornbread were also really good!

Just okay...

By Flyboy123 |

I read the review in the New York TImes on Milt's and was really excited to go. While it was good, it was nothing to write home about. The ribs were expensive ($32 for a half slab) the coleslaw pretty tasteless and the smashed potato's were bland. I'd pass on it again compared to the other places in town.

We had salads! Crisp and fresh.

By Jenn A |

We enjoyed delicious smoked chicken soup, some chili, and two different chicken salads. Everything was good. The warm cc cookie with ice cream was not great. Ice cream was ok, I left the cookie. Coffee was a bit watery. Non-kosher companion loved the soup and salad!

Really enjoyed the place

A great restaurant that happens to be kosher

By Reuven Lerner |

Let's face it: Outside of Israel (and some large US cities), kosher restaurants are often bad. They have a captive market, and as a result, tend to be overpriced, with bad food and terrible service. For years, I've been hoping that someone would create a great restaurant that happens to be kosher. Such places exist in Israel and New York, but not in Chicago, despite its large Jewish community — at least, not until recently, when Milt's opened its doors. Simply put, I can't remember the last time that I ate meat that was this delicious, and I've tried a number of things during my two visits. Whether it was a bowl of chili or a shaved steak sandwich, I found the food to be of high quality, served by an efficient and friendly staff, in an easy-to-find location. I live in Israel, and I'm used to high-quality meat restaurants, but nothing there tries to do the sort of BBQ that Milt's offers, which was fantastic. There is room for improvement: When my friend and I split an order of sliders, I found one of them was excellent, and the other two were just OK. The chili was spicy, but didn't come with any bread to cut the spice. (Then again, I didn't ask for any.) And it would be nice to get some vegetables without having to order an $8 salad. But really, this is just quibbling. I've walked out of Milt's twice now, full and satisfied, and delighted to know that such a place exists. The fact that all profits are donated to a neighborhood charity is icing on the cake. Milt's should open a side business, training other kosher restaurant owners what they should be doing, in terms of food, service, and ambiance. If you keep kosher, this is the place for you to eat in Chicago. Even if you don't, I'm pretty sure that you'll enjoy Milt's. There's an awful lot to love about it.

You are not likely to find higher quality meat

By Patrick J |

They only use top quality everything. They care about their customers and every month donate some of the profits to a different charity. They are dairy free and nut free. Their chili is good at about 7.5 on my scale. I had the BBQ sandwich;. That is how I know of the high quality of the meat. They served it dry with pots of 3 different sauces. Their house sauce and the mustard based sauce were my favorites. Dairy free wins them points to thousands but cost one from me as I like it in my coffee. The deserts sound fine but I was full. I would live to try the ribs but it is a little over my budget. It is okay to charge full price when the extra goes to charity. The waitress was very good and helpfull with helping me to choose. Her name was Renata, a professional.

The best kosher ribs

By chocohalic1 |

We love Milt's, terrific service, owner is welcoming and wants to be sure everything is okay. We love the ribs, the bones could be a foot long with delicious thick cut of lean crusted meat on top. Huge portion to share! There rib tip sandwich is also one of my favorites, each comes with a side of your choice, we like the Cole slaw to cool our palate and the delicious baked beans with chunks of brisket. Pickles will greet you when you are seated along with a variety of BBQ sauces. We always make a reservation as it is a small restaurant. Children are always welcome, has bar and sport programs televised on multiple screens. This restaurant is completely kosher!

NOT like other Kosher Resturants - GREAT food, service and staff!

By Frequent001 |

Great BBQ, that happens to be kosher. Unlike too many kosher restaurants where food is mediocre and service worse, Milt's has GREAT food ( thanks Chef Bryan) and GREAT service (thanks Sonam) and a great management team (thanks Stephen). I eat there about once per week and am never disappointed. Try their special chicken soup to start- if you really hungry go ribs, less hungry their rib sandwich, BBQ beef sandwich or Turkey Club are some of my faves.

Unique

By DJS44 |

Service is great, food is awesome and out of the box for a kosher place. Pickles they served were amazing. Loved the chili. I think they should change up the menu a little as I would love to see the creativity of the chefs some more.

excellent food!

By Christine K |

Went with co-workers, one of whom is Kosher. Service was excellent. Food was excellent. I had the brisket, which came with three BBQ sauces. Highly recommend the house sauce! Others at my table had the salmon and chicken pot pie - both agreed their meals were excellent. loved the cole slaw too!

Spectacular

By Compass556489 |

The food was out of this world. Started with a cup of brisket chili which was flavorful with just the right amount of spice. The Flintstone ribs were the best I have ever had. Ended the meal with a chocolate mousse. Not only was the food great but our waiter was terrific as was the entire staff. Can't wait to return.

Great kosher all American food

By Hayley7070 |

My husband had this michagas that he had to go to have a bbq meal as we are kosher and where heading to Tennessee so nothing to see there in the way of kosher food! We went and boy oh boy it was delicious actually better than some of the restaurants in Isreal - the brisket was insane - absolutely delicious

Good Food for Casual Dining

By Elaine G |

Visited Milt's for a special occasion buffet. We had the chicken which had a nice smokey flavor and was tender. They had 3 sauces to try over the dry-rubbed chicken, including Kansas City, Carolina mustard and a red vinegar-based with a bit of a kick - yummy! Been beans and onions were cooked perfectly and green beans had just a tad crunch. Potatoes were good as was the salad and dressing. Would like to back to try other bbq choices.

Great good, really fun atmosphere

By Elisha O |

Great service, amazing drinks, and then it's all about the meat meat and meat. Had the nachos and then the brisket burger, all really solid. Also sampled the ribs where were excellent. Would absolutely come back.

Not your usual bbq

By David M |

I currently live in NC where bbq means pork, and they take it very seriously. Milt's offers a great selection including brisket, chicken and pork. Flavors are great as is the presentation and service. I had mine over a salad which, being somewhat healthy completely misses the point, but it was great!

Veggie friendly BBQ joint...finally!

By kimborkr |

To start, have a reservation! We arrived at 5:00pm without one and caused a bit of a stir. But in the end, we were seated at a long family style table. This is a kosher, veggie friendly, gluten free accommodating BBQ joint. We ordered creative cocktails to start our repas. My friends and I started with the veggie chili nachos to accommodate me as the veggie at the table. This was our most favorite part of the meal. We ate every inch of those nachos...so in short a must have. My friends had the spare rib sandwich and the chicken sandwich with creamy slaw, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. They enjoyed their meal and took home what they could not finish. For my veggie brethren.... I had the seitan burger with sweet potato fries and vinegar based slaw. The burger was very flavorful and the mix of loading on 3 types of BBQ sauces made it stand out even more. Definitely order! The fries were good and slaw was just ok. We ended the evening with the peach cobbler and chocolate chip cookies with a side of dairy free ice cream. The peach clobber was fresh and tasty and the side of ice cream was yummy. I cannot wait to take my boyfriend here but with reservations, of course.

BBQ That Will Change Your Life

By BrieCollins |

My family and I have been huge fans of Milt's BBQ for the Perplexed ever since it opened. What makes this even more amazing is that I am a vegetarian, my brother is a health-nut, my father won't mix milk and meat and my mom isn't the biggest fan of BBQ and is gluten-free. There is something at this restaurant for everyone to enjoy. In addition, Milt's has the best vegan chili in all of Chicago. Pairing their vegan chili with their homemade cornbread and soymilk shake means I am vegan heaven. Everything at Milt's is made so fresh, with their secret BBQ sauces. Chicagoans don't mess around when it comes to BBQ and Milt's has by far the best BBQ in the city! Whenever I am back in my home town, Milt's is my first stop, especially since everyone in my family has their favorite dish. In addition to their amazing food, Milt's does an incredible job of connecting those in the community through their wonderful community programs and lectures. There is always something interesting coming up on the Milt's calendar. Not a place to miss while in Chicago.

Will go again!

By Nathan T |

Went with a friend for lunch during the week, so it was pretty quiet. It's a good size restaurant though! I had the brisket sandwich, which was a little dry for my liking, but that's because the bun underneath had absorbed ALL the juices, making it impossible to pickup. That said, the fries were great! Definitely open to trying this place again.

Fun Meal, but Food was Average

By OppAdvisor |

Being kosher, it was a treat to go out for BBQ. However, the ribs we had were very dry. For the prices being charged, we had expected a better execution. The other dishes we had were better -- excellent chicken wings, decent brisket sandwich. One visit is enough for us.

Finger licking wait my mouth is on fire !!!

By Markthecaterer |

The ambience pretty nice for a sports bar the maître d' was friendly and our waitress was too. Knowing my low tolerance for very sharp food I told the waitress not to give me anything to sharp. I was told that the BBQ wings would be a good choice based on that criteria, I then ordered a plate of brisket empanadas pretty good, and a brisket Burger my complements to the chef. My wife ordered fried cauliflower and a smoked brisket sandwich which she was happy with. But my taste buds were shot from the wings being way to sharp so I could not enjoy my dinner, and it gave me terrible heart burn which lasted my all my flight home.

Could be so much better

By Rabbits1977 |

Food Average Fries tasted like a doughnut!! Perplexed for sure No Champagne to have a mimosa? Only person in the place at 12 noon on a Sunday, place was dead, and no atmosphere at all

Exceeded expectations!

By Sandcmk |

I was there when it first opened and wasn't happy. I figured I'd give them another chance. I'm happy I did. The place was packed and I didn't have reservations. I was about to leave when the hostess asked if I was alone. When I said yes she offered me a "seat" at the bar! It was fun and I'm glad I sat there. Nicer than a table for one. I had the slider trio and brisket and chili nachos. The bartender convinced me to try a local craft beer they had on tap which was delicious as well. I'll be back!

Yum

Very good food, great ambience and very friendly staff. Service was very good, ribs were good but BBQ brisket nachos were amazing!

Shows a restaurant can be Kosher and have great food!

By Barry Moltz |

First time here! This shows that it can be kosher, have great food and service. I would highly recommend even if you do not keep kosher!

Decent, Not their best night

By Hoby1kanobee |

Came early, not to busy. My wife and i ordered light. A couple sides, soup and a burger. Smoked chicken soup incredibly salty but tasty. Baked potato cooked to perfection. Sauteed spinach also a bit on the salty side but tasty. Ordered burger medium but came well done. Wanted while wheat bun but not on menu. Cole slaw on side, creamy, excellent. Men's bathroom stall could use a privacy shield. Server Ashley very pleasant.

Great food

By Rob F |

I was in Chicago last May and wanted a burger being Kosher I thought oh no another lousy burger. Not the case. I didn't grow up religious. That being said i has the best burger ever @ Milts. I highly recommend it.

Excellent place to eat

Kosher in Chicago

By esthercattan |

Excelent place for a diner kosher in Chicago we really love the place but it's better if you call to make reservations because it can get very full

Delicious!!

By Mark42139 |

This was my first time here, but I've heard from many others how AMAZING the spare ribs are. Unfortunately, when we were there, they had run out of spare ribs. Nevertheless, we tried many appetizers all of which were fantastic as well as the short ribs which were simply delectable! The steak was a bit on the small side, but quite good. The bloody mary had a great jalapeño kick to it with a nice piece of meat on top! The corn bread with the spread it came with was delicious as were the brisket baked beans. All in all, a wonderful culinary experience, although next time they need to save some spare ribs for us!

Brisket: the best kosher BBQ in America

By Daniel M |

Went there with friends after the Chicago Triathlon because I needed a nourishing and filling meal. Beef, that is. This restaurant could easily compete with the best BBQs in America but also happens to be kosher. That is not easy to find in the kosher world because meats tend to be dry and tasteless. Milt’s BBQ is the exception because everything that is offered proved to be amazing. I highly recommend ordering the brisket burgers and the ribs — a must!

Top notch service (and great food)

By cy f |

WOW! we were running late and called them to let them know, they could not have been nicer, whens we showed up a full thirty minutes late we were seated right away (and the restaurant was crowded) the waitstaff was very professional, the food was ready in a jiffy, the food was delicious and very reasonable prices especially for the neighborhood. Would def. come back again.

Nice good meal

By Michael R |

Came there on a Sunday for lunch I was warned right away that the smoked meats made that day would only be ready after 5pm I ordered the brisket sandwich with a side of coleslaw slaw It was very tasty Then I took a hamburger to go with fries and that came in handy as my plane was delayed. Service was very attentive and nice. I’m coming back when the smoked meats are ready and can only imagine how much better it would be ! Near Wrigley Field

Make a reservation

By MilwaukeeMom35 |

We had a very good meal, a little too close to the couple next to us. My husband ordered the salmon and thought it was too spicy. Otherwise food was good. Nice to find a kosher restaurant near downtown. Parking on the street was easy to find. I would go again but I would call ahead for a reservation, it fills up fast.

Good service. Food, not so much...

By Anthony T |

Ordered the brisket sandwich and the rib sandwich. The meat for both was dry and the bread seemed stale. Our server was very attentive and apologetic when we mentioned our issues with the food. We honestly weren't looking for anything when we brought it up to her but she was able to work a few dollars off our bill. We had high hopes for this place but ended up wanting for more. I'm certainly happy that we did not pay "market price" for one of the special dinners. If they cannot get a couple of sandwiches right, I find it very difficult to believe that a larger order world be any better.

really good place

By Randy S |

very good bbq...everything was very good....the burgers and the ribs are solid...good atmosphere....french fries also rocked...and the chicken wings werent bad....

Love it!

By Cda212 |

Yum, went Saturday night and it was pretty full yet very fast service. Milts burger and Brisket nachos never let me down ever. Only thing I don't like is when you get check and you sign for it they add up tips for you including tax.. so if you want to leave an 18% tip it looks as if you left 16.5% tip. I know these games because i work in this industry and i am aware, but its very misleading and not most honest practice I have ever seen. I will still come back because I am aware of this, i love the food and service is great, oh and all proceeds go to charity!

Great brisket sandwich

By momkelsey |

This was a small but very busy barbecue place we happened upon in the rain. So glad we went inside. They have an assortment of barbecue items to choose from. I had the brisket sandwich and it was the best I've ever had. It was served on a pretzel bun. The three sauces were served on the side. Each sauce had it's own unique flavor. I liked them all. The staff was bustling, friendly and attentive.

Outstanding food

Recently went to Milt'so BBQ. The food and service were outstanding. The decor and ambience were perfect, it was a great night out.

Satisified Kosher BBQ Beginners

By Stuart R |

When we are asked how good was the BBQ at Milt's we have to admit that we have no basis of comparison since, because we keep Kosher, we have never been able to eat BBQ at a restaurant before. All we can say was that it was a delicious learning experience for us. We loved the food and appreciated the informative assistance of the wait staff. The sliders were incredible!

Toss up. Some positives and some not so

By OntarioTraveller18 |

Really like to have a good kosher BBQ place to visit. Sadly, I might have gone wrong by having the beef rib sandwich instead of the brisket sandwich. Much too spicy for my taste. Big sandwich tho. The cole slaw was very good as was the fried okra. Far better than the odd french fries which were mainly fry and not much potato. One of the other diners with me had chicken sandwich. the chicken was less spicy. Oh well, might have to come back for more.

Great BBQ place and it's kosher!

By Jacqueline G |

Located in the Lake view area of Chicago. Known for its hamburgers, ribs and pulled brisket. Also, has some vegetarian options. My husband loved the nachos with brisket.

Great lunch time sandwiches - caring staff

By Flalaw97 |

My son and I stopped in for lunch while apartment hunting. I had the Smoked Chicken sandwich and he had the Smoked Seitan vegetarian sandwich. We both loved our food. The fries were fantastic and plentiful. The flavoring on the sandwiches was excellent and we both were filled. Able to use the wireless to look up some apartment listings after we ate. Wait staff was very attentive and the atmosphere was perfect for a lunch meeting or other get together over a good meal.

Great food, great staff, manager could use some ere-training.

By davidS9501KI |

A long international flight brought me to Chicago for the first time in several years. After throwing my stuff down in my hotel room, I grabbed an UBER and headed out to my favorite restaurant in all of Chicago-Milt's.As tired as I was, I was even hungrier and there was no other place I wanted to be. I walked in and sat down at the bar, where Jordan was fantastic, making great recommendations then making sure my food came out quickly. As always, the food was amazing/ Sliced brisket dinner, brisket chili cup, salad--and even a $15 shot of laphoig, because why not--I was so happy to be back at Milts. I'm here for business, so it was just me and with tip, the total was $94.60. You know what, fine, I was happy to pay it. Here is where my otherwise perfect rating went South and wht I am up late writing this review--Likely because I am using an international cell phone, my reception has been pretty spotty and when I tried logging in to UBER to call for a ride back--my phone had no service. No problem, I walked back into Milt's to ask Jordan what the wifi password was because I am stuck with no way to get back to the hotel. She sheepishly said she was going to explain to the manager that a nice customer is stuck wthout phone service and needs the wifi to call for an Uber. I mean, I just spent close to $100 on a meal just for myself, ate quickly at the bar, and was just trying to get safely back to the hotel which was about a 30 minute drive from Milts. Jordan came back very re-faced and embarrassed because she said her manager would not let me use their restarant's wifi? I explained that I am visiting, do not know the city, and just need to call for an uber and would stand outside and wait. Literally I am stuck in Chicago with no phone service and not one person who I could call to help out. Jordan was really embarrassed, but she had nothing to be embarrassed about. It is her manager who should be the one embarrassed. He saw that I just bought an expensive meal, was friendly towards all the staff, and just in need of a little help to get home. The most surprising aspect about this is that Milt's heavily promotes the fact that they give a portion of their sales to charity--that they are always looking out. The food is great, the staff overall is pretty good. As much as I have always loved Milt's I just cannot envision going back there. I've spent a lot of money in their over the years--and I I have always been happy to do so. The food is great, the entire staff (well almost the entire staff is great, (not you knuckleheaded manager). Your staff wanted to help--you set a bad example to them, you told a customer who absolutely loved your restaurant that you could not care less how he flails around in the even hours of Chicago. My encouragement, is to the workers to accept their manager for who he is, his short comings, and not let his attitude affect the pride they have in their own efforts. Jordan and the rest of the staff, thank you, you guys are amazing. To mr. manager guy, please be more kind to customers in the future. Chicago is a great city, but not exctly where you want visitors walking around at night without any way to communicate..

Kosher food that tricks you

By JSSAmber |

I don't make the slightest attempt to keep kosher, so the idea of heading to a kosher barbeque is one that I had to be convinced to listen to. I'm really glad that I did. It's a bustling family restaurant with a wide variety of great foods. There's no dairy on the menu, so if that's something you've got to have, you're in trouble, but the recipes were really very creative. I had a grilled salad that was extremely tasty--I don't know what they did to it, but it had all the complexity of a rich, non-kosher salad. The brownie was not very good, I'm afraid--maybe you need to have the non-kosher stuff to make it tasty--but the rest was very nice.

Milt's BBQ was FANTASTIC!

By Steven A |

I joined a few colleagues for an early dinner and everything we ordered was very good - delicious. The BBQ Chicken was very flavorful, and the short ribs fell off the bone! We started with about 3 appetizers and shared several main courses. All the food was truly excellent but our waiter was not the best. He lacked customer service, but the host was very nice and made up for the bad waiter.

Manager is consistently frustrating to deal with

By Shoshana M |

The last two times I've visited Chicago for the weekend, my family and I have made an effort to go out to Milts. Both times were on Friday and when we tried to make reservations on the phone, the manager was inconsistent about what time we can come until and what time the restaurant is closing. The first time this happened, we had spoken on the phone with him and made a reservation, yet when we got there, we were informed by him that the kitchen is closing and they cannot seat us. More recently, this past Friday, I spoke to the same manager over the phone to make a reservation and he gave me a time to come in. When I called about 45 minutes later to let him know that less people would be coming than what I had originally reserved for, he informed me that he had told me the kitchen is closing at that time and we must come in earlier. I do not like arguing over the phone. I tried to politely correct him and insisted that he had not given us a reservation for the original time. We came in earlier, like he requested and thankfully we were seated. The food was delicious as always, and the kitchen did not close at the time that he had stated.

Great food

By Foodeatersa |

We visited Chicago as a family and were looking very forward to a delicious kosher meal. Milts really lived up to our expectations. The portions were large - we have a teenage son! The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had the turkey meal and burgers which were all excellent

Great food and even better customer service

By msstrauss |

I attended this restaurant with my kids for a fundraiser. It was a set menu. My kids are vegetarians so the only thing for them was salad and some sides. The restaurant owner went out of his way to take care of them and had fresh veggie burger sliders made for them. The kids loved it and I was blown away with how kind he was to my family. The food was very good all around and I highly recommend this location!

Great kosher barbeque

By Jonathan F |

Milt’s is an unassuming restaurant serving a great array of kosher barbecue meats. The food was filling and yummy. Service was exceptional. We would gladly go back next time we’re in Chicago.

Sadly disappointing meat quality

By MikeMfromWashDC |

For a BBQ, the meat was dry and disappointing. Chicken was so thin, it had little taste and the pretzel bun was also dry. The sauces were actually pretty good.

Milts BBQ - attention all carnivores, great food for you

By jbr1960 |

A family event brought me to Milt's BBQ. Milt's is very popular and there was line to get in on a Wednesday night. Fortunately, we had reservations so we were seated fairly promptly. Our server was very attentive and even rushed to tell us that they were almost out of ribs and we should get our order in. I indulged in the fabulous Milt burger which was as delicious a burger that I can ever remember. My son tackled the ribs which he thoroughly enjoyed. Really good sauces for the meat are not to be missed. Great cocktails and beer list too. You can feel good about eating at Milts, even if you're almost a vegetarian like me, because all profits go to charity. Uncle Milt, please come to Boston too

Outstanding BBQ spot in heart of Lakeview

By DesertDan77 |

Be sure to treat yourself to a pre-dinner cocktail. From there, don't hold back! Go straight for the burgers, ribs and brisket--you're at a BBQ place. I ordered the Milt's Burger, and even though it seems like standard fare, it's delicious. Fries hit the spot. The chocolate on the dessert menu is excellent despite being dairy-free. Worth a second trip to sample more menu items.

Disappointed

By njgramps |

I had great expectations for dinner here but was disappointed by the service and manager. The brisket chilli was waiting for me while I was in the bathroom. One would think that if a patron isn' at his seat a hot item would not be left at the table but that's what happened. The server was no where to be found to correct this. The chili itself has only one piece of brisket and was cold. It was more like a cold bean soup. The chicken dinner was moist but not fully cooked since one side was decidely quite pink and inedible. Again no one to talk to about this. The cole slaw and veggies were good. The manager refused to take my credit card so I could pay my bill and leave. Instead I had to wait for the server to appear.

Wonderful Food, Service and Football

My brothers and I went to Milts tonight. They decided spontaneously that they wanted to watch the Packers football game while eating an awesome burger and Milts was the perfect venue. The service was great, from making the reservation, to the ordering and all the way through the end. Milts recently introduced a Cobb salad and I ordered it along with the brisket chili. Both were amazing. Our waiter was great, coming often to check on us and refill our drinks. They kitchen staff happily modified our orders for the health conscious as well as the picky eaters among us. Milts truly scored a touchdown! =)

Amazing meal

By healthcarestocks |

Never been to Milts. I took an uber from the convention center. It cost $20 each way. Had nachos, soup and the ribs. Huge and tasty. Service was great. Highly recommended.

Outstanding cuisine and ambience

By DesertDan77 |

The full bar complements an outstanding menu with numerous delectable meat dishes. The meal is truly a delight. First-timers should note the restaurant is strictly kosher and does not serve bacon, pork, shellfish or cheese. Desserts are dairy-free. And delicious.

Great kosher barbecue

By lgppres |

freshly barbecued and smoked daily -both beef and chicken-side dishes were very good especially corn bread and smoked beans- excellent stop for kosher observant

Delicious food, can't go wrong here

By Bruce C |

Food was absolutely delicious including all the home made sauces, pickles etc. Everything we got was outstanding including the appetizer of sliders, entrees of short ribs that just melted off the bone, and the brisket burger which was amazing. And their drinks were creative, well done, and all very generous. And service was pretty good too. Whether you keep Kosher or not, you'll love this place.

Amazing

By Avraham Y |

The pulled beef, burgers, baked beans where great. I order to go, but the place looked like it was a nice place to eat. Full bar. I wish I could enjoyed it. Also it only took 15 minutes to get my order and I ordered alot of food.

Great service - good food

By redsbench5 |

Not our first time and we like this place. Casual no fuss good food TV's for sports and it's Kosher. Located in Lakeview - and the service was very good

Big disappointment

By Deborah P |

We were really looking forward to the lunch we had planned at Milts. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The brisket was OK especially when drowned in BBQ sauce, but the pulled was dry and tasted less, even with BBQ sauce. We ordered the$50 platter of short ribs that was inedible. When we told the waiter he apologized and said that he would inform the chef. The 3 different BBQ sauces was a nice touch, and really necessary considering the quality of the food. We were there at noon on a Sunday which may explain the poor quality, but does not excuse it. The potato skins with “bacon” were very good.

Meh

By Arxitexter |

We chose to dine here based on all the recommendations we received from friends and family. The BBQ chicken is good, the beef (ribs) are indeed perplexing...disappointing fried cauliflower because there was substantially more breaded coating than cauliflower - if that’s what it was (could have been anything). The pickled cucumbers were the highlight: zesty and even a bit spicy! Dessert selection limited and disappointing, eg no fruit. Great service and attractive comfortable atmosphere.

Great kosher BBQ

By Stuart M |

We were in Chicago for the first time last month and looking for a kosher place close to Wrigley field. This was a few blocks away. What a nice place to eat. Food was great. Service very friendly and helpful. Cool baseball cards on the walls. Would go back anytime. Enjoy!

Amazing food and service

By Ohh K |

I brought a co-worker in here. The food was amazing and the service was incredible too. The portion was amazing, and people came asking if we were OK. They kept refilling the drinks without even asking. I would come back all the time.

Great kosher meat

By Gloria S |

Outstanding burger and ribs Fairly priced for kosher meat Easily accessed by 146 bus from downtown hotels A superb addition to Chicago kosher scene Very attentive service

So expensive!

By Kathryn J |

We went here with folks who keep kosher and had a lovely time, but we’d never go again. It’s simply too pricey for what you get. The combo rib and chicken platter for one would have been $75. That’s some kind of insanity, I think. Our brisket sandwiches were very dry, no matter how much sauce we poured on. I have blocked out of my mind the crazy price we paid, as I knew this was going to be a one-time experiment, but it was way too much and we left most of our sandwiches. The owner is a terrific man who gives money to excellent causes. I wish the food was better and the prices were more reasonable so we could support the good things he does.

Lunch at Milt's

By Schalom |

As people who eat only Kosher meat , my husband and I were very pleased to visit Chicago this weekend and try one of the kosher restaurants Chicago Jews enjoy. We had our Sunday lunch at Milt's. I was a bit disappointed because they only offered one choice for steak lovers ( which I am! But 13 oz was just too much for me! ) I chose a burger with guacamole and picco de gallo on the bun. It was delicious! Their specialty is Barbeque and from the looks of some of the plates being served to other tables, their full slabs and half slabs of short ribs are very generous and looked delicious. ! Both the burgers we ordered were very satisfying and reasonably priced. We also had a cup of chile that was mildly spicy and wonderful! I would certainly go there again. Maybe next time I'll prepare for it by skipping lunch so I can manage a half slab of ribs!

Overpriced eatery with unpleasant employees

By 2013Dmitry2013 |

Milt’s BBQ is a modestly looking eatery in the north of Chicago. There were no alarming signs of overpriced posh restaurant, so we decided to come inside. The waiter was not pleasant, almost arrogant. The meal appeared in 5 minutes after the order, so it was already prepared. Ribs were good, but nothing unusual. The price of ribs was not specified in the menu, just MP. Other prices looked reasonable, so we ordered ribs. Two portions of ribs and potatoes cost us $102. I was astonished when I’ve seen the check. I asked manager how they can justify the price, she told ribs are very expensive. She did not smile, she was not sorry, she just pointed three times on MP on the menu. She was very unpleasant, like manager in Paris tourist traps, who use to charge tourists 60 euros for hamburger. We were not tourists. I lived in Chicago for 15 years and I know that ribs for two would cost you not more than $40. OK, Mortons, Wollensky or Capital Grille will charge you $100 for steaks and potatoes, but we are talking about top-class restaurants with pleasant waiters and managers, restaurants with décor and panache. Do not go to this eatery, go ANY OTHER PLACE ELSE!

I really like this place

By Savta Basya S |

Milt's has great food at a great price in a great location. I must admit, I do stick to some tried and true favorites here, mostly because of the serving sizes. The dinner plates could feed a family of four easily. The sides are just right, and the bar has a nice selection of beer and drinks. The burgers are great, but the brisket chile could make your mommy come down with an insecurity complex it's so good. Indoor/outdoor seating, really nice modern casual decor, parking can be tricky. If you don't get to the brick and mortar location, you're still in luck, check out the food truck locations on Facebook. Added bonus: all proceeds support local charities.

Disappointing

By Morris F |

I wanted to like Milt’s better than I did. I found most of the prices unreasonably high ($100for a rack of ribs with a couple of sides). The lack of pork on the menu made for a deficit in options, but I knew that going in. I ordered a half bbq chicken that came with cole slaw and a side. I ordered an extra side of corn bread, coming to $28 total. Reasonable. The chicken was improperly cooked - dark meat deliciously moist, but white meat overcooked and dry. I did not ask them to rectify it.

Amazing food, fun atmosphere, and nice staff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Milt's BBQ For The Perplexed is an AMAZING restaurant, whenever someone mentions Chicago, I go crazy about Milt's

Great meal. lots of food

By Hoby1kanobee |

Dined with family party of 5. Eric our server. He's the best server I've had in the 10 or so times I've been there. For starters we had bbq wings and chili nachos. both delicious. Nachos, great portion. We also shared both the grilled salad and chicken grilled salad. Loved both. Chicken had a nice kick. Lamb chop was large and fantastic. Smashed potato just ok. Beef baked beans excellent. Highly recommend! Suggestion unrelated to the food. Men's bathroom stall needs a privacy shield as ones legs are visable to the people walking in the restaurant.

Awesome experience for everybody

By David S |

Milt's is a terrific place to go if you are into BBQ. It is also a fabulous choice if you want vegetarian BBQ options. Perhaps most uniquely, it serves tasty gluten-free BBQ foods. All of this is at reasonable prices and comes with great decorations, including in the bathrooms (at least in the Men's Room). My personal preference is the brisket sandwich, followed by the Milts Burger, but I haven't finished trying everything on the menu yet so I may yet be surprised. I don't eat out much, but I try to make it to Milts once a month. Best of all, the profits go to charity, so not only does my stomach feel good but also my heart.

A Great Place to Eat

By Jerrold K |

The service was great. The food was outstanding. The ambiance was superb. The staff was extremely helpful. The place is clean. They have outdoor tables on the sidewalk. I was there with a party of 3; we each ordered different items from the menu. My wife ordered ribs; usually she does not finish the food on the plate. This time she ate the entire ribs because they were so delicious. I would strongly recommend ths restaurant.

Fantastic Kosher BBQ

We attended a private event and the food was great! Yummmm! I didn't see the menu, but if the food we ate is an indication, this place is a winner!

Meat and meat

By FreeFrolick |

First time here. Met our high expectations. A full slab of ribs for $72 had us worried but 3 large ribs with lots to devour. Also had the short ribs in beef stock (good but bland), wing sampler (all good), empanadas (tasty) and burger with milts way toppings (excellent burger with chili, “bacon”, onion, bbq sauce). Would definitely come back when in town. Delicious.

Very good

By AMJ92 |

This place is very good and I’d be happy to return. The food is good, the portions are generous, and it’s not expensive. It is very overhyped, though (“it’s the best BBQ in etc.), and you’re probably not going to walk out feeling like you just found the Garden of Eden, so don’t come in with over the top expectations and you’ll be satisfied.

Excellent choice for kosher in Chicago

By MDXP |

I believe Milt's is relatively new. It's a few miles north of the Loop on North Broadway, not far from Lake Shore Drive. I had a car but I suspect a cab from the Loop is not too expensive. For a starter I had the slider sampler- beef, chicken and brisket. Really good. Comes with several choices of sauces. Reasonably priced at $12.00. For a main I ordered the brisket sandwich which was excellent. $16.00. Ample serving. Comes with a side. I had fries which were good. I ate outside on a nice night. They have several tables outside. Service was good. This is an excellent choice for kosher (meat) in the city.

Kosher Chili that's awesome, really?

By Blair C |

I stopped in at Milt's last week for dinner while I was in Chicago at a conference and found myself in meat Nirvana... it's a funky well-lit bistro kinda' place where the smell of smoked meat hits you as soon as you go through the front door. I sat at the bar ordered some brisket chili and wings and watched the Bears beat the Giants! The chili was awesome and the wings were unimpressive... I think next time I go back, I'll order the Chili and something else, but skip the wings. Service was good and the food came quickly. I noticed that there is some street parking, but it was a $10 cab ride from my hotel on the Golden Mile. I'd go back to this place again on my next trip to Chicago. So should you.

Cloth napkins are great touch.

By Jon |

Overall the food was very good with several items that we thought were fantastic. The free pickles that start at your table are really unique and tasty. The fried cauliflower was great too. The 1/2 chicken was huge with a great smoked flavor. Service was quick and very good. We all enjoyed our meals and would come again.

What a name...what a place!

By Judy G |

You won't find a restaurant with a better name...or better food. Service and food were both excellent. I had the beef ribs along with BBQ wings and brisket chili. Mousse dessert is not to be missed!

Kosher BBQ in the Windy City

By Arie K |

If you find yourself in Chicago any time soon, you should check out the City's first kosher BBQ joint! This quirky place serves terrific BBQ and has vegetarian options as well.

The combo!

By CharmingACM |

Pickles on the table are tasty. We ordered the combo which is half a chicken and half a slab of ribs and it came with two sides and cole slaw. Flavor profile of the meat wasn't my favorite. The sides were excellent. Grilled vegetables and a baked potato. Good value for kosher and presentation is very nice! The finale...a chocolate chip cookie with ice cream.

Fabulous Kosher b-b-q

By CharmingACM |

Second time here and loved it! Excellent quality meats and nice presentation! Place is popular and packed on a Sunday night at 8 pm! Owner is friendly and chats with people at tables and donates 100% of profits each month to a different charity...A must visit!

Your Classic Kosher Restaurant

By Micah F |

There was little to complain about in this restaurant. Seriously, it was all very solidly done. The portion sizes were more than filling and the prices were reasonably fixed. The food, it suffices to say, was better than the bill. Of course, there is a limit one can get with a classic kosher restaurant, and this one's flaws were the overemphasis on chicken on the menu and a generally conservative selection of Eastern European dishes. These, however, are not major, as they are nearly exactly what was expected out of the menu anyways.

Great Name and Very Good Food

By Bradley G |

Milt’s BBQ for the Perplexed is a kosher BBQ place which means no pork, but very good beef, chicken and ribs. I got the beef brisket sandwich with vinegar coleslaw- it came with three sauces-all were different and very good. My wife got an excellent vegetarian chili , my son got a fried chicken sandwich he enjoyed. There were some excellent cocktails and great service. Only negative was prices were a bit high particularly the ribs. Highly recommended!

Great food!

By 298barbara |

Great food and friendly service. There is a lot of variety in the menu and portions are huge! Advisable to book although not strictly necessary depending on the day of the week.

Sometimes a Vegetarian Needs BBQ Tofu

By Ren P |

I was curious about this place because of their BBQ tofu. It was pretty good. It could have been better if the tofu was soaked in the sauce.

Best. Ribs. Ever.

By geh21 |

I always try to come here when I am in town. The ribs are the house specialty and are not to be missed. Smoky, savory and delicious. My favorite is the half bbq chicken; simple, super tasty, always cooked perfectly and enhanced flavor courtesy of the house sauces. Portions are huge, so bring an appetite. If you are going to Chicago, this absolutely must be a stop on your restaurant itinerary.

Delicious!

By chocohalic1 |

We split two sandwiches, BBQ brisket, and rib tips that came in on a long pretzel roll. Next time I would order the brisket on the pretzel roll, instead of the plain white bun. Flavor was outstanding, beef so tender. They bring to your table wonderful sliced pickles and with the brisket comes a tray with three different flavors of BBQ sauce. The French fries come in a paper cone, all nicely crisp, and the slaw was a nice cool down for the sandwich sauce. The place is friendly, although we knew no one, it seems to be a neighborhood friendly joint. We were not rushed, even with people waiting. Can't wait to go back for the ribs! Happened to meet up with their truck in Florida, was able to enjoy the brisket sandwich on the road! Menu items include chicken and fish, along with a children's menu. Kid friendly. They also have a full bar.

plentiful and reasonably priced

By yacovk |

If you're on the run, and need a good meal full of BBQ flavor, this is the place. Also very conveniently located near city center.

Great BBQ

By Fred S |

Milt's brought a truck to Detroit. We waited in line for an hour and a half, but it was worth it. The BBQ Beef sandwich on a pretzel roll was great. The baked beans were a little spicy for us, but the sandwich was worth it all.

5 stars for food, 1 star for everything else

By Bruce W |

Starting the most important thing - and the only thing that matters for some. The food was excellent. But it went downhill from there. First, why does a BBQ menu list half the entrees as "market price." Not sure if they think listing prices is beneath them or if they felt that we'd suffer sticker shock, but it's not like they're serving Maine Lobster. Second, four of us were sitting outside and we unexpectedly had a 5th person join us after we were seated. Neither the waitress nor the manager were remotely helpful in helping us accommodate the 5th person. Ultimately, with the help of some very friendly people sitting at the next table, we came up with a fix, but no thanks to the staff. Finally, I recognize that there are very few BYOB places in Chicago, but when I bring a bottle of wine and am willing to pay a corkage fee (and even brought my own bottle opener), I was less than happy to be told I couldn't. There are so many good restaurants in Chicago that do BBQ (Smoque or Q on Dearborn for example) that I won't be going back here.

So much goodness

By John P |

I live in Kansas City, barbecue heaven. So, why is it I visit Milt's every time I'm in Chicago? THE FOOD AND THE PEOPLE Milt's is a full on kosher meat kitchen restaurant. Period. You won't find pork and you won't find dairy. What you will find is some of the best smoked meat of your life. You will also find superb beans, cooked with the beef brisket. They have superb service and a bar that will take care of you. One of the best things about Milt's is their commitment to the community. Their profit doesn't make the owner wealthier, it goes to a host of Chicagoland needs. Love your neighbor as yourself, the Law says. Milt's walks the walk.

Delicious

By danyy_Pty |

One word: Awesome. The food and the service were great. Every item we ordered (ribs, brisket sandwich, steak) was outstanding.

food truck review.......

By illinois travelere |

Kosher (CRC supervision) So very pleased with the food truck offerings. So far have tried the char burger and Romanian char dog; the wings; the smoked brisket chili, and the smoked chicken breast sandwich. They were all excellent. Milt's features three different sauces: smoked, BBQ, and buffalo (the most kick). 100% of all profits are donated to charity. The name of the restaurant combines the name of the owner's late uncle, Milt, with the title of the famous 12th-century work by Maimonides, "The Guide for the Perplexed".

Arrogant and Unprofessional!

By Axel W |

Very disappointed and was not made to feel like a valued customer. Ordered ONLY the Ribs which consisted of 3 very fatty beef rib bones for a total charge of $87.37 which included an automatic 18% gratuity! Ribs were in fact, very fatty and not editable. The server came to the table twice, once to bring the food, and again to bring the check, which by that time I was ready to leave. I indicated my concerns to another employee and left feeling 'ripped off'. Frustrated, I called the next day to speak to the owner, was put on hold for a lengthy period of time only to have the call disconnected. I followed up the day after that and asked for the owner but instead was connected with 'Ryan' the manager. I shared my concerns with Ryan in a respectful manner. Unfortunately, rather than Ryan offering an apology for my experience, he spent the majority of the time defending the 'welfare' of his restaurant, serving staff and chef. When I asked to speak to the owner 'Jeff Aeder', I was told that 'Jeff doesn't get involved with customer matters'. Maybe if there was an opportunity to speak with Jeff Aeder, this problem could have been resolved. I believe and am frustrated that this company appears to 'block' some negative reviews on Facebook! I can certainly afford the loss of $87.37 for my meal, but what was more troubling than the manager's arrogant and unprofessional attitude of not only not offering an apology... there was absolutely no compensation offered (which I was not looking for), and there was no invite to come back to the restaurant with the assurance that the next visit would be better. I left thinking that my meal was a very overpriced ripoff and that I would never go back to this restaurant again.

Great milts burger and nachos

Was here Saturday night. Waitress was Ryan is not so friendly or helpful on the phone. Overall food was really good! We will be back! Thanks for a great experience

Best Dining Experience I've ever had

By Michelle M |

It is extremely rare to find a kosher restaurant that can also accommodate a strict gluten free diet (strictly NO cross-contamination). At Milt's, all of the gluten-free options were clearly labeled, and the kitchen has safe and effective separation practices to ensure there is no cross-contamination. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. And the food was DELICIOUS. Before this, I had never been able to order chicken nuggets from a restaurant, but at Milt's I was able to! We ate here on Christmas Eve, and the restaurant was packed but we were able to be seated early and never had a problem finding our waiter if we needed anything. Even for the non-gluten free crowd, I highly recommend eating at Milt's!

Brisket chili was outstanding

By david |

Great kosher food. The brisket chili was outstanding! I don’t keep kosher, so I know what good chili tastes like, and this one really stood out. Service was great. Recommended

Okay dining. ..

By Howard F |

This reviewer was displeased with his meals. First, ordered the bbq brisket sandwich. Very dry, hard to swallow and had to return. Ordered the chicken pot pie and it was just okay. Others at our table also had brisket sandwich, agreed it was dry but finished meal. One ordered the half-stack ribs and said they were terrific.

Disappointed

By Howard |

First, cocktails were not made correctly. When we told wait, he was sort of snotty about it and said "You want me to replace it?" (REALLY?) A few of us wanted dinners on the web menu (ribs). Didn't have any! Waiter explained all the other items they didn't have that night. (Thank you very much!) Italian beef sandwich buns were like giant, stale hot dog buns. Not a good experience.

Oh so good

By colinbW6984OI |

Never been here before. Started with the Okra fried with great sauces. Yum. Then the pastrami nachos. Bring them on, so delicious. Then we had the BBQ spare ribs and Chicken. Both were great. The sides of baked beans and corn bread were excellent. Overall, a great dinner and great service. Make a reservation the day before or you'll be eating at 5:15 or 8:30 at night.

Jewish BBq

By Pat T |

I was disappointed -this was expensive too- I got a togo order- the chicken pot pie - the sauce was spicy with under cooked green beans and a square of what looked like phyllo dough on top - my side of sauteed spinach was very small with the stems still attached - altho that tasted good - the beef ribs - you are getting the giant cow rib with some meat attached - the coleslaw was ok - got the chocolate mousse tasted like it was mostly unsweetened chocolate cooking bar and thick- not light- and a half chicken rubbed with seasoning - the sauces were ok

Excellent and Kosher

The place was clean, the staff was very nice, the service was quick and the food was fantastic. Prices were online with kosher establishment like this. Metered parking right in front. Right near wriggly field and near everything.

Great Kosher food non-kosher eaters and vegetarians will love

By Daveg66044 |

Kosher food isn't just for MOT's but for anyone who likes food that has a humane and ethical pedigree and Milt's provides that experience along with a great meal. Don't be perplexed or otherwise swayed away because the only Jewish thing you've eaten is a bagel. For those unaccustomed to Kosher food, note that it costs more to produce as well as for the supervision to received accreditation as Kosher. The animal must be slaughtered in a very particular way and every single ingredient must be verified as fully Kosher and can have no pork or shellfish - and since this is a meat location, the items cannot come in contact with dairy. That's why it costs more. Being from Kansas City, I immediately chuckled at the Kansas City BBQ sauce I'll be the judge of that thank you and this isn't Oklahoma Joes. However, since I generally only eat Kosher meat, I've only had the sauces at Oklahoma Joes. If this place were in KC, it would do quite well and probably win our Kosher BBQ contest. This is Chicago, though and it's still darn good. I was walking in Boystown and saw a sukkah and was pleasantly surprised it was connected with a Kosher restaurant. Everyone raves about the pickles. These are the sweet "bread and butter" style rather than sour/garlic/dill style one expects at a NY style deli. Quite tasty but I did feel bad nudging for seconds and thirds. Service was polite and attentive and I was delighted to hear about the origin of the restaurant and that profits are returned to the community. Typically I look for vegetartian options at a restuarant and this place has several including a house made veggie burger and smoked seitan, but I opted for smoked chicken breast since it's a rare event for me to eat Kosher meat. The breast was smokey without being overpowering. It was subtle and the three different BBQ sauces were a tasty compliment. I went for the vinegar cole slaw and (tip here) put it on my sandwhich all NY style. Yummy. Fries were great and yippie I didn't have to worry about lard (lard has pork in it) although the portion was smaller than I expected. For those lactose-intolerant, no products served here come in contact with dariy, including the baked goods and ice "cream" they have for dessert (I asked--they are soy based) The rest of the table got Milt Burgers: standard burger along with friend onion strings, smoked beef (aka beef bacon) and some brisket chili. Beefy! And just a reminder, this is prepared to Kosher standards so it may be slightly different in taste and prep to what you are used to. It was still a great burger as judged by my beef eating pals. Juicy, which is actually difficult with Kosher prep, and satisfying and a darn good deal at $15.00 for Kosher burger with such topppings and fries. Classy atmosphere with tasteful digital art displays and the kicker is the cards on the table with pithy puns and riddles to feed your mind as well as your body. Don't miss the bathroom because they've got fun magnets asking you things to ponder such as "Why is abbreviation such a long word?" Cute. Also, so you don't wonder or commit a faux pas, the sink outside the bathroom with slices of bread is for those Jews who say a handwashing prayer before eating. Having bread there allows them to eat right after praying so they don't have to wait for their meal. Two minor complaints here Milts: 1) include the prayer and an explanation for a guest who might not know or those that might want to do the prayers but forgot them and 2) along those same lines where were the benchers with the blessings for afterwards? These are minor, and really only impacts those who would want to do the prayers but forgot how, but given how accessible you are it might be nice. Oh and include some yarmulkes too. I know I would have sat and prayed for sure. Frum take note: CRC certification is behind the bar and is up to date. I really suggested they need to put that in the window and at least my server agreed. I panicked after going to the bathroom because I expect that to be at the wash station. Because this is a certified Kosher restaurant, diners, especially those with children, must remember not to bring in any outside food or drink. That inlcudes snacks for the kids, even if those snacks are Kosher. This isn't a judgement against you but required to be in compliance with their certification authority. Also to comply with certification, they are closed Friday afternoons to Saturday nights for the Sabbath as well as many Jewish holidays. Call ahead or consult your local Rabbi regarding the yom tovs (holidays). A really great meal for anyone who enjoys barbeque and cares about the ethical eating. You don't have to be Jewish to love Milt's, but, as grandpa would say, it doesn't hurt.

Excellent, tasty, efficient and great take out

AWESOME !

By chaya3 |

Milts is one of a kind dining experience. The food is delicious, and the presentstion us fun and unique. What makes Milts Awesome is their mission statement to pay it forward. Each month a different charity is chosen to receive the proceeds of the restaurant. The other reason why I love Milts is because of the outstanding service. They are attentive, personable ...simply fantastic. Especially Kim and Shannon who go above and beyond to make sure you have a great dining experience. Love this place. Love that it's Kosher.

Milt's Does afire job for Good Kosher Dining

By yupyup |

Whenever in Chaigo I always debate to either go to Milt's or Shilo's as they are both superb. The first time I have been here I wasn't even sure if this place is kosher as it didn't have "a jewish vibe" (whatever that means). The food was very good and everything was fresh. I was here with a large group of people and one of the kids got a bit sick and staff was very accommodating. Prices where not as bad as expected and portions were very decent sized!

No one else makes a MILT's BURGER!

By Ken F |

The Milt's Burger is worth the trip. While I don't easily say " Forget about the Bar B Que" I can say : "You'll remember the burger!" A hand made patty cooked to your specification. With brisket and onion straws. On a warmed bun. With sides like tangy slaw or crispy fries. You can't ask for more. Rarely is a "hamburger" a meal to go out for....except at Milt's! P.S. Try hard to gain a reserved table!

Great experience!

By Aviva S |

We love the food at Milts. The night that we were there we both commented that our dinner was a little slice of heaven. We are Kosher consumers and appreciate that we have a restaurant of this quality in our neighborhood. The staff made sure that every detail of our dinner was attended to. We will definitely be back!!!

Arguably the finest kosher restaurant in Chicago

By manisfeld |

Unbelievable selection of smoked meats and vegetarian dishes (sorry but being kosher there is no pork or shellfish, and no meat/milk combinations - so forget about a cheeseburger). Milt's is fairly small, so a reservation is a must. We ordered the beef empanada, the smoked beef hamburger, and a fish taco - all most excellent. We'll for sure come again next time we are in Chicago.

Excellent food

but the most important thing is that the proceeds go to charity. Reservations are a must, this place is busy.

Tasty food and Extensive menu for a Kosher restaurant

By Bonnie T |

We went to this restaurant on the suggestion of friends who keep Kosher. We didn't expect to like the food here, but we really did. The menu is extensive, and the food is quite good. We tried a number of dishes and will gladly return.

A Kosher "Cheers"....

By deniseg12345 |

While visiting our daughter in Chicago (we're Boston based) we had a meal at Milt's and while the food was average to - better than average what we found so very interesting was that just about everyone but us seemed to know someone else in the restaurant. There was a lot of table hopping among diners, with kids visiting friends at other tables as well. It felt like we were in a TV show! It was a bit of a different experience for us and gave us something to chat about afterward. If this kind of atmosphere doesn't bother you, go and have some pretty good BBQ.

Consistently good

By Edward K |

Went early for dinner- 5:15 on a Tuesday so was pretty quiet. Cobb Salad was outstanding. Waiter was OK but a little too hesitant about special request from one diner about her salad. Also she left out the meat and asked for Tofu instead, which we got charged for (probably should'nt have been charged or at least warned). Stay away from fried Okra- pretty tasteless.

Good food and atmosphere

By AbrahamLincolnCPA |

We enjoyed the food and atmosphere at Milt's BBQ. We were visiting Chicago from out of town and went there for lunch two days in a row. The food was quite good, the portions generous as befits a BBQ and deli establishment, and the service was very friendly. Would definitely go again if we're back in town.

Perfect Kosher

Kosher barbque?? Yes this is the place for near north Chicago. Where is the Chicago Kosher Beef? Here it is for reasonable price. Really kosher. But all will be comfortable.

Kosher BBQ is a treat!

The food was very good and they have a lot of experimental/unique options that you can't find elsewhere, particularly at kosher restaurants. I would definitely recommend it to my friends and family!

Delicious Food, Great Service and Fun Atmosphere

By Danielle N |

Living in Seattle, we don't have the benefit of getting to eat in Kosher meat restaurants, so when I went to Chicago for business, I was on a mission. I wanted to make sure that the one meal that I had out was delicious and kosher fleishig. Milt's didn't disappoint. First, the atmosphere was really fun - there was such a variety of people there and on the evening I was there, I had the chance to experience my first poetry slam. WOW! The service was wonderful, the staff was upbeat and friendly and service was prompt and accurate! But the piece de resistance was the food. I ate the Smoked Brisket Sandwich with Fries and Brisket Baked Beans. YUM! Everything tasted delicious and was really beautifully presented. Let's just say, I didn't take home any left overs.... I didn't get to see much of Chicago while I was there, but I am hoping to go back soon, so that I can return to Milt's!

Worth the trip even if you are not Kosher

By Nardiesally |

Located just a few blocks away from Wrigley Field, Milt's is pretty well known by now. There is a lot of work going on along Belmont now, so it is pretty noisy walking there. The food was excellent. The sandwiches and sides were great. They presents three types of BBQ sauces, all of which had their own unique flavor. Service was o.k. although I was there on a weekday afternoon. The elephant in the room with this place is whether it is worth it to pay a premium because it is kosher. First, there is nothing about the place that jumps out to you as kosher. If you look you can find it, but otherwise, it had a wide variety of people. Second, the food is good, but not appreciably better than a non-kosher place. If price is a concern, then you can get BBQ which is just as good for less elsewhere. However, is it not that much more, and there is a uniqueness and ambiance that does make it a worthwhile place to visit.

Food very good, but ran out of ribs

By SusanAdventure |

Eaten here many times. Known for their ribs, but last two times we were there they had run out, so had to chose something else from their large menu. Place tends to get crowded. Best to make a reservation. Very close to Wrigley. Excellent (kosher) bar b que options and drink menu. Try their infused bourbon. Wait staff can get overwhelmed when place is full so service can sometimes be slow, but generally a fun place to go to have a great time and meal.

i used to go there when i was in broadway area

the food is awesome and stuff as well, the good spot to meet other jewish friends and have some lunch with them

Milt's takes a road trip

By ComradeCamper |

August 4, 2015 was Milt's first trip to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It left us all wondering why they had never paid us a visit before?!? The staff promised to give serious consideration to coming back once a month. We'll see ... We were told (by the Jewish Museum of Milwaukee) to RSVP, but most of us didn't catch on to that, so Milt's was quite overwhelmed by the size of the crowd. As I stood in line, I watched them remove the "chicken sandwich" line from the menu on the side of the truck. Then the "brisket sandwich" line came down. There was a collective groan. Then word went around that there was no more bottled water, and no more lemonade. By the time I got to the front of the line there was something remaining called a "seitan sandwich" (pronounced just like Satan). I was told it's a protein made out of wheat gluten, a vegetarian alternative to brisket. It did look a little like brisket, and it had pretty good flavor, but it was very greasy. I had a side of quite delicious coleslaw, with a vinegar base; and "brisket baked beans". Again, the beams had a good flavor, but were very watery. Prices were a little steep, $9 for the sandwich, $5 for the two sides -- but hey, it was my first opportunity to eat kosher BBQ, and Milt's first trip to Milwaukee. The next time I get to Chicago, I'll look for Milt's -- in case they don't get back to Cream City as soon as they hope to.

Milt's BBQ for the Perplexed in Chicago and next door deli

By bfindysz |

Not only is the food terrific and the ambience pleasant but it is kosher and all profits are donated to charities. The owner is a unique individual with a personal mini-museum of Chicago baseball memorabilia on the walls of the deli. I had the briskett burger which comes with fries. Cannot recommend this too highly.

Great meal

We really enjoyed our dinner. Our friends made the reservation, and the place was packed. Parking is awful, but the food was great. My wife and I shared the sampler sliders and the Cobb salad, and we left happy and full.

Great kosher barbecue

By John P |

My wife, myself, and my sister in law/Rotherham in law dined here today. We had brisket, rib meat sandwich, and a seitan sandwich. I had beans, two others had slaw. Simply put, superb food and service. Bryan the chef and Steven the GM run a great house. CAUTION: For non-Jewish folk, this restaurant observes the Sabbath. It's closed depending on season from before sundown on Friday through Saturday.

Wonderful food, excellent ambiance.

Food was wonderful, service was excellent! We met for a quiet dinner with another couple and had a wonderful time.

Kosher BBQ - A real treat!

By Rachel G |

During a recent visit to the Windy City, my husband and I discovered the joy that is Milt's. Having come from a city with extremely limited kosher dining options, finding a BBQ restaurant was a real treat! We splurged for the full rack ($60 - probably enough for four people) and my gosh, those were the best beef ribs I've ever had it my life! The herb rub they used was perfection and and we barely touched the accompanying sauces becaus of it. The whipped "butter" (margarine) comes mixed with cinnamon and is the perfect accompaniment for their cornbread. Sides (ala carte) were ok to above average. Proceeds go to charity, which can help you feel better about what you're paying. Would definitely revisit! Also, the somewhat limited menu was clearly labeled with vegetarian and gluten free options, which is always good to see.

Perplexed by the Prices.

By Jay B |

The meat is supposed to be Kosher and you are paying a premium for that. So, I get it. There are not many, if any, Kosher barbeque spots in the city. The food was ok. The wings were small, but seasoned well. Overall, no big complain't about the food with the exception of the prices. The restaurant was clean and the service was good. The beer and liquor prices were very reasonable. If you don't care about kosher there are better spots in the area for barbeque where the prices are reasonable. I would go there again. The atmosphere was good but again the prices for the kosher meat was high for me.

OY where do I start?

By hoosierscience |

The service is prompt, polite and very willing to explain everything. It is a nice neighbor restaurant serving Kosher dishes and our party had ribs, brisket, meat loaf and chicken. We has a varierty of appetizers and it was all good. Everyone was happy and you walk away hungry either.

Great experience! Sublime food, good cocktails, and large portions!

By TravelMaven79 |

There are not a whole lot of kosher BBQ places, and Milt's is one that any BBQ lover must visit. The menu is deep, but almost everything relates back to the smokey and the BBQ (with the exception of the desserts and cocktails). The servers were super friendly, and perhaps my only beef with the place is that it is a bit crowded meaning that you are going to overhear the conversations of the people to the left and the right of you. We ordered: The half slab of ribs, which were smokey and delicious and very generous in size. The empanadas, soft and tender, and a no brainer. Milt's burger which is a whole huge circus of tasty in your mouth. The BBQ brisket sandwich with double the meat- this was a bit dry and the only thing I wouldn't order again. The pretzel bites - fun and savory, and comes with great Carolina Mustard. The cornbread with mapled margarine also a must have. Smashed potatoes and coleslaw were ok but we'd have been fine without them. Sweet potato fries were good, but only made better by the apple ketchup. We ordered all that for two, and the waitress warned us that it would be way too much for us to finish, which it was, but we packed it up and had a full lunch the next day in our hotel room of cold leftover Milt's with champagne and it was still phenomenal! I look forward to coming back soon!

Fabulous food, huge portions, profits donated back to local charities

By Wave R |

Believe it or not, we flew to Chicago for a long weekend with the primary purpose of going to this restaurant. Coming from the Seattle area where there are no kosher meat restaurants, this place is a gem. We ordered the chicken wing appetizer in order to try the four different sauces and ordered entrees as well. The wings were so generous that we didn't even need entrees. We were referred by Seattle friends, and their recommendation was spot-on perfect. We didn't know that they donated all their profits to local charities, and that made it even more especial.

Great food

The food here was delicious. Enjoyed the brisket nachos, BBQ salmon, green beans, spinach, French fries, Cobb salad. The only weak link was the kid's chicken fingers, but my son didn't notice. Will definitely go again.

Fantastic meal!

By Robert B |

I had the daily special, a BBQ rib sandwich and my husband the BBQ chicken and they were both excellent. My BBQ rib, which was from meat sliced off BBQ ribs, had a rich and complex flavor. When added with the hickory BBQ sauce, it made my taste buds tingle. I had a taste (or two :)) of my husband's BBQ chicken and I believe it was one of the best BBQ chicken sandwiches I've ever tasted. That's saying a lot because I'm quite the BBQ aficionado. I'm from out of town and did find it pretty expensive for just a couple of sandwiches, but it was worth it!
