Here you can find all the comfort foods you need. The Slagel Farm Beef Burger was simply devine. Save plenty of room for the dessert as thats the highlight.

We came here for dinner with my brother in law and his wife, at their recommendation. It did not disappoint. From the burgers, to the spicy hot chocolate, everything we tried we enjoyed. It was like upscale comfort food, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was laid back, but not overly casual. The service was great. Definitely a great dinner, don't miss the hot chocolate, my wife was in hot chocolate heaven with hers.

So I love Mindy's Hot Chocolate and I'm rarely disappointed. Unfortunately the two times that I ordered the Chicken Thighs- they were too salty- to the point where I couldn't eat it. I so want to love their crispy chicken thighs. Hoping to experience a recipe change, I ordered them again. Sadly, I was disappointed again. So I asked the bartender what's causing this puckering, dry mouth scenario? They brine and then salt it. Jeez, no wonder why. Brining is a technique that should be handled with care and definitely not salted again. They would have killed the dish with fresh herbs instead of more salt. I want to love this dish. Please, Chef at Mindy's- reconsider your brining. Otherwise the heirloom tomato salad and mussels were fabulous!!!

We didn't actually go for the famous hit chocolate although I think people seem to go just for dessert. I had a delicious burger and my friend had the soul, it was all very lovely and staff were friendly with a good atmosphere.

I had read about this place prior to my trip to Chicago and was quite excited when my partner and I had booked a food tour in the area. However, we didn't realise it wasn't open on a Tuesday (the day of our food tour). However, we did visit due to special arrangement. Although I absolutely love chocolate - (some would disagree as dark chocolate is my least favourite) I don't really like hot chocolate or chocolate drinks unless I am very very cold/hot. Even though the day we visited was glorious I was a little disappointed to be trying iced chocolate. It was amazing but I think I would have preferred something else. The homemade marshmallow was out of this world though! A must... I need to return to try something else on a different day. Unfortunately I didn't get chance to return on this trip. I loved the look and feel of the place though. very simple but effective.

I went here on my Chicago Food Planet Tour of Wicker Park and Buckwick. I'm so glad it was on the tour! We had (what else?) Hot chocolate. It was by far the best hot chocolate I have ever had. It was so rich and chocolatey, most of us couldn't finish it. the Homemade marshmallow was so amazing. Wish I had gone back to shop afterwards.

Oh my goodness, the food here is prepared with such care and love. We enjoyed every bite. For vegetarians the forager sandwich was amazing.

Mexican hot chocolate- need I say more??? Wow- and no one comes close to making perfect pancakes. Mindy, they are the best- even with the new change in size. While I have had breakfast, lunch and dinner there for years- the experience never changes. The food reaches beyond my expectations EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. While it's not fair that I have a condo across the street and I am a frequent customer- it is the one place that you should not miss if you're in Chicago.

This little cozy spot is a delicious find for anyone who likes food. Every dish was absolutely amazing. Adults and teens alike loved the food, which was high quality, locally produced (as much as possible) and farm to table fresh. The wine by the glass that was available was of unbelievable quality, and the beers that were available were interesting and offbeat, but delicious. The wait staff was friendly and really helpful. They clearly know the menu well and were happy to take time walking us through the options. And of course...the hot chocolate was fantastic..what else would you expect? We can't wait to go back!

i love this place and never disappoints! brunch and lunch is delicious whatever you order and the desserts are unreal!

Went here for date night post-dinner dessert and loved it! I had a dark chocolate hot chocolate which was served in a large soup bowl with homemade marshmallows. The dark chocolate is super dark and absolutely divine for anyone who loves dark chocolate flavor. It is rich, but very cocoa-y and creamy. The atmosphere is nice, menu is semi chef-y with tables spaced very near to each other. We looked over the dinner menu and found other things we would try during a dinner visit in the future. Very enjoyable; we will go again.

I have been to Chicago 5 times and love this city. It has great food!! First time to Mindy's Hot Chocolate but not the last. It is in the details and they are spot on. Not sure how they could disappoint every thing we had was so good and I watched other table food come out and was just beautiful. How to decide?? yum!

Good croissants, but from there to half an hour in line!!! You can find such good croissants in many places in Chicago!

Stopped in for lunch because the lunch menu looked appetizing. Informed on arrival: “take out only until 5:30.” Website and other online sources don’t mention this preposterous practice. Politely suggested to host that they should mention this bizarre fact on their website. She quipped, “look, I am not in charge of the website, I’m just the host.” Waste my time, lose my business. Be rude, gain my poor review.

We went to Mindy's Hot Chocolate on our last night in town--definitely saved the best for last! The place gets very busy so we put our names in then explored the surrounding area and shops b/c there is very little space for waiting guests. We started off with a cheese plate which was delicious and featured jam made in house that was perfect. We each ordered entrees and everyone's was delicious--from chicken thighs, grain bowl, to the mac n cheese that was so creamy I still dream about it. When it came time for dessert, 2 of us ordered hot chocolates and we also tried the chocolate pie I think but to be honest I forgot about everything else once I tasted my dark chocolate affogato--hot chocolate with a scoop of coffee flavored ice cream...simply incredible! The ambiance of the place combined with the excellent food and desserts make this a can't miss place in Chicago

My wife and I came in to enjoy dinner and were pleasantly surprised. I had the steak which was done to perfection. My wife had the chicken which she also enjoyed. The best part obviously was the hot chocolate, which has thick, rich and huge. You can definitely share a large cup with that special someone.

Wicker Park is a short train ride from downtown Chicago and an interesting neighbourhood to visit. Our guide book led us to Mindy's for lunch. We both ordered the quiche of the day, rich and fluffy and encased in a flaky crust. Superb. Though we really had no room for dessert we couldn't resist ordering the hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows. It was so decadent and so delicious that I felt no guilt over consuming so many calories. Totally worth it. Lovely atmosphere as well.

I have been here 5 times now...in the last 2 months (the pains of moving to this neighborhood). Everyone wants to come here, and with really good reason...the food and the dessert are amazing...oh and you will get excellent service as well. Here are some steps to ensure you enjoy your evening: 1. Make a reservation. They are on open table which makes it really easy. You are going to have to make this reservation a week or more out to ensure a prime time. They will follow up with a phone call a day or two before. Know if you are going there for just dessert or dinner and dessert (I recommend both!). If you just show up, you are going to have to wait, in a small area, for a long time. 2. Arrive starving. You really want to enjoy the menu, there are so many things that just scream amazing. Save room so you can have an appetizer, entrée and of course, dessert (I know, $13 for dessert....but it is WORTH IT)! Be daring and willing to share, it is the best way you can have a little try of all the deliciousness there is to offer. 3. Indulge in what they are famous for: the Hot Chocolate...what, you like dark chocolate only...covered. What...you wish it could be a little spicy...covered, you love coffee taste...covered. What...you prefer tea...covered. Oh, don't give me the I am too full...take it to go. You can heat it up the next day if you need to. Those marshmallows...that flavor. It is a must! This place is a staple of mine. A great place for a date, for friends, for family...there is a reason all those awards are hanging in the front. Yep, it is that good.

Took my family out to dinner at Mindy's on a cold winter night last week and we all loved it. As it was our first time here, we tried a few different things on the menu, starting with the cheddar biscuits. YUM! For dinner, I had the mussels, which were as good as mussels I have had on the east coast. My daughter had the mac and cheese, which she loved. My husband and one son thought the chicken sandwich was the best they had ever had, and my other son enjoyed the grain bowl. For dessert, we tried both the medium and old fashioned hot chocolate and both were delicious, though very sweet. When we go back, I'd like to try one of the dark chocolate versions. My kids shared the smore pie and pretty much inhaled it! Aside from the food, the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming and service was attentive and friendly. All in all a great experience and we can't wait to return.

It's charming has a very nice environment. The employees are friendly. I ate a great salad and my friends a nice hamburger.

an expensive cab ride from downtown Chicago....nothing special...disappointed in the food and hot chocolate....mac and cheese looked good and after a few mouth fulls, found it was too cheesy to the point of being sickening...2 of us could not finish it....salad was o.k...disappointed there was not a good dessert...THE BEST THING WAS THE HOME MADE MARSHMALLOWS...COULD HAVE HAD MORE OF THEM...wait staff was very good and friendly...the decor was cute...

Meh, our dessert experience wasn’t great nor bad. The hostess was not warm or welcoming. We sat at the community table and I overheard her several times being short with other guests coming in to inquire on the wait. Service was okay but not expected for the menu prices and $15 per person for dessert only. I had the black and tan hot chocolate and my husband had the Mexican hot chocolate. Both drinks arrived to the table luke warm. Not what I envisioned on a chilly October evening. We also ordered the banana bread pudding and it was nothing to write home about. Although, A+ for presentation on dessert and drinks. In my opinion it lacked flavor or a spice. Overall it was worth the experience, but if we came back to Chicago to visit again we would not return.

Being extra fancy, we treated ourselves to dessert. I did not plan on getting hot chocolate with my dessert, but when in Rome.... I ordered the white chocolate hot chocolate, which I renamed Sugar Soup. It came with 2 homemade marshmallows, nice touch. It wasn't very hot, it was crazy over the top sweet. The menu changes every 6 weeks or so, making it hard to get a recommendation from our server. I went with the baked Alaskan and my friend chose the Banilla Nilla. My Baked Alaskan had a hint of freezer taste to it. Banilla Nilla was not bad. Super presentation. Dessert for 2 will run you $50. Which is pricey, but not if it's a special day. Sugar overload. But I expected no less.

Around 12:30 on a weekday, we stopped in for lunch. It's a big room with quirky decorations and a long bar along one wall. The street-facing wall is all windows that open wide on a summer's day. The room was half full with moms and kids, groups of neighborhood women dressed like they were coming from the gym, plus a few couples. The lunch menu has breakfast-y items with eggs, a quiche, a burger, a grain bowl, a few salads, and a bagel with cured salmon, so there's sufficient variety, including vegetarian options. My companion had the wedge salad with a couple grilled shrimp that he said was excellent. My salmon-cured bagel was very good; if it had also had a slice of fresh tomato on it, it would have been perfect. And of course there are the things Mindy's is known for: Chocolate! You can get several varieties of hot chocolate, including one with a shot of espresso; you can get a tall drink of chilled chocolate. There are milkshakes, cookies and desserts. The desserts are a good size and outstandingly good. We could not decide which one to get, so we ordered the 2 recommended by our waitress: the rhubarb dessert which was like a miniature pie with caramel and the "chocolate cake 2 ways". They were a good size but that didn't stop us from polishing them both off. Yum! This place is about 3 blocks north of the Blue Line's Damen Ave stop. It's less than a block south of The 606 where there's an access ramp. And there's metered street parking which. at least in the daytime, isn't too hard to find.

If you are in the city...You must visit at least once. The hot chocolate is amazing and the deserts are very nice. Take a look at the picture below. Have fun!

Stopped in for hot chocolate after a show. Music was deafening! Crazy! Daughter had earplugs with her, but she was still uncomfortable. Waiter agreed to turn the volume down a smidge, which helped a wee bit, but the volume was still unreasonable--impossible to have a rational conversation. Sort of spoiled our visit.

I tried the hot chocolate from Mindy's at Revival Food Hall. It was some of the best I've ever had, and I'm a bit of a hot chocolate snob. Perfect for a cold, windy walk to work. The hot fudge donut was delicious too!!

This is a very nice bakery with exciting cakes and coffee. We had bagels and chocolate cookie. There Are just a few chairs inside so We had to take away. There is a park further down the Street were You can sit.

We visited on a sunny Saturday morning and fortunately our hosts had the insight to make reservations for their 11:00am opening. Mindy's Hot Chocolate has a line of folks waiting to get in the door and the reservation allowed to get a table right away. It did not take long and the restaurant was full with a good wait at the front door. Choosing a particular dish to review is difficult since the menu changes routinely, the exception being the hot chocolate drinks with homemade marsh mellows and the cinnamon and sugar donuts with homemade rasberry jam. Both are a delightful way to start breakfast. Of all of the items that we ordered for breakfast, my wife's choice was the best. A pork belly hash that had a wonderful mix of vegetables with a perfectly cooked and thick piece of pork belly nestled upon. The fresh ingredients made the dish easily the envy of the table. All of the dishes were cooked to perfection and spent little time on our plates. We did have slow service that due to the number of people entering the restaurant at the same time, in fact very slow with a quinoa salad. However, the delay was made palatable with an apology from the owner, someone who definitely cares about not only the outstanding food but the experience of her customers. This is a great place to visit to get away from the downtown rush and enjoy a great meal. If you have time afterword enjoy the neighborhood shops.

Everyone going on and on about this place but once I finally tried it and let me make myself clear I went for sweets only no food. It was not good at all, unfortunately!

I love this place. The food is always great and just different enough to make it interesting. I started with the green gazpacho soup and the grilled sepia starters which tasted great. We choose the lobster tagliatelle and the saffron agnolotti as our main courses, again delicious. Finished it of with some of Mindy's cookies. Always a great place to have dinner

The high review is for the red velvet cake that my friend and I split, and the fabulous -looking shake that the kid at the table next to us swore was the "best ever." It is not, however, for the food. Simply put, if I'm going to spend $14 on a BLT, it better have more than one later going on. And if my friend gets the quiche, also $14, it better be at least the size of one of those old-school single serving hicken pot pies. Neither happened. The food tastes great. The portions were just way too small. This place is in the trendy Bucktown neighborhood (plan to spend time looking for a parking space if you're not using a cab or another ridesharing service). If that's your main reason for going here, that's cool. But if you want a more memorable food experience, go somewhere else for your meal and come here to indulge in dessert. That's what made this spot renowned in the first place.

The restaurant is named Hot Chocolate for a reason - the Hot Chocolate is out of this world! We've tried every flavor and could never even attempt to pick a favorite. The desert here is also a must-try. The menu changes pretty frequently so there's always something new and delicious. The hot chocolate and desert are beyond 5 star worthy. However, we've been less impressed with the food at Mindy's. We've come several times for breakfast and had to send our food back for being cold when it arrived. We weren't that impressed with the lunch here either as the sandwiches are pretty small for the price. Overall, I'd say this place is a must for hot chocolate and dessert, but I'd recommend skipping the rest.

We visited Mindy's Hot Chocolate as part of our Bucktown and Wicker Park Food Tour and was offered a sample of her Frozen Hot Chocolate compete with a Homemade Marshmallow. WOW! The combination of milk and dark chocolate, coupled with caramel and the marshmallow (and I don't typically care for marshmallows at all!) was sooooo very good. It was also refreshing on such a hot day and after just eating a spicy Chicago dog. This would be a place I would return upon my next visit.

I had the mac and cheese starter as a main (I couldn't finish it) with cauliflower and carrots as sides. The mac and cheese was the best I've ever had. The cauliflower flavoursome but the carrots overcooked and greasy. I had a lovely pear desert with a deconstructed cheesecake. Very nice but not amazing. Had a great chocolate martini. Really tasty. Great service and nice atmosphere. We were with a 6 year old child but people were also on romantic dates, with friends or adults only family. Very varied. Suitable for all.

A world class bakery located close the heart of Chicago. A wonderful assortment of treats and sweets for all. Get there early on thr weekends!

Homemade marshmallows do I need to say anything more? I have gone here multiple times. Very accommodating for any group size. A little pricey but worth every cent spent. The hot chocolate is out of this world and so is the french toast. Great vibe and stop! You can't go wrong eating brunch here!

My daughter is a planner for meals so when we visit Chicago it is a food fest to be sure! And, we can never go to the same place twice because there are SO many restaurants in Chicago. Her idea not mine. Well, we did not “plan” on brunch so no reservations and apparently, brunch is a very important meal for Chicagoans. She starts calling around Saturday morning around 10am with no success, but then she calls Mindy’s and low and behold, they can seat us. We speed over, find a parking spot nearly in front, walk in and a table for four is presented. I am impressed and our success continues with excellent food, hot chocolate, of course and fantastic service. Sweet and savory. I cannot wait to go back for lunch or dinner! So, plan ahead, make your reservation and go!

The menu changes all the time so you won’t get bored. Stopped by at 1030pm on a Friday night and were able to snag a table. Excellent desserts and sweet cocktails. Baked Alaska was inventive with citrus and very light. Donuts are a must. The regular menu looked good and might be worth a try. We’ll be back.

Seriously, it's been 6 hours since I ate there and I still can't move. I'll be honest. I only wanted to try this place because I'm a hot chocolate fanatic and even though I'm in Wicker Park often, never had the chance. Well, I found it when a friend called me to get together and I demanded we go to Mindy's for brunch or else she'd have to deal with her crazy friend who had not had her hot chocolate fix. So Mindy's it was. We started with a mimosa, continued on with a delicious short rib benedict and completed it all with the oh-so-worth-the-wait Old-Fashioned hot chocolate drink. Our waiter, whose name I did not get, was so incredibly wonderful and informative when I kept pestering him with my indecisiveness and complaining about the elevator 80s music to, that he also deserves almost as much recognition as the hot chocolate. One last thing. I love kids and babies, but I didn't realize how many of them are now lurking in Wicker Park, and hence, at Mindy's. Between that and the elevator music, it felt like I was hanging out in the burbs but hey, that's something I can definitely deal with under the decadent hot chocolate trance.

Trendy place in an informal ambiance ... excessive prices for mostly just okay food ... and tiny, tiny portions ... wine prices are also outrageous according to a price check I made they marked up a bottle by 450% ... service is acceptable, but not at their prices, Its priced in the "Fine Dining" category with "mid range" quality.

I went there when I heard it was the best mac & cheese in town. I am not american so I cannot say, but it was very good. Then I had a burger and this was delicious as well!! On the top of that: excellent cocktails and friendly staff. Nothing bad to say, especially as it wasnt even expensive!

I came in for just desserts and drinks, and was delighted with the options. We ordered the cookies, donuts, and Kolache and all were plenty to share and delicious!

I can't tell you how many years I've been coming to Mindy's Hot Chocolate!! We live in the suburbs but take the drive to eat at Mindy's and enjoy her desserts! We even order her cakes for our home parties now!! We have so many great moments at Mindy's as a family! I also ordered her hot chocolate and marshmallows online this year for my holiday party and had the most amazing hot chocolate bar! PLEASE go and try this restaurant, it will change your life!

You will never forget you first sip of the affogato, a dark chocolate beverage with coffee cocoa ice cream. Strong, dark and bold, this drink will remind you why chocolate and coffee is the gods nectar. The drinks are the perfect temperature to slide down the throat, even on a summer day. For vegan drinkers, they can make a dark chocolate with soy milk which is equally delicious. Try the Mexican to have the uplifting sensation of cayenne, cinnamon and dark chocolate. We had the donuts and the chocolate mousse, worth every calories, which later burned off walking the 606 trail that runs above Damen.

Nothing worse than hot chocolate that doesn’t hit the mark and it’s often very variable. You wont go wrong here. Not cheap but worth it. This is a real treat to enjoy on a cold day in Chicago. Order extra hot if like me you like to savour your hot chocolate.

This is a truly special place for desert. The rest of the menu is excellent too, but the deserts are just something special. Worth a special detour.

Old-Fashioned Hot Chocolate was incredible! Tasted like a candy bar in a cup!! Homemade marshmallow and ganache were sooo good in the hot chocolate mix. Pricey for hot chocolate ($7-10/cup), but totally worth it for the amazing treat! Sampled one of their cookies--unique lemon & salty taste. Not bad. My fiancé had the Mexican Hot Chocolate. He said it was very spicy to the point of being bitter. Would recommend another beverage unless you really like spice in your chocolate. Very busy place; wait too long, had to get cups to-go. Recommend call ahead if you can for a seat. Still worth it to get "to-go" if that's your only option.

While this place serves meals, too, we just went for dessert. Creative, delicious, a tiny bit pricey, but not to be missed!

Now at the revival food hall, so it is very convinient. After lunch you can grab desserts and hot chocolate. Wectried a cranberry orange pound cake, brownie and medium hot chocolate. Everything was delicious!

I'm not a coffee drinker so there is nothing better to warm your innards during Chicago's frigid cold weather than a cup or two of hot chocolate at Mindy's Hot Chocolate restaurant at 1747 North Damen Avenue. Whether you prefer lunch or dinner or weekend brunch or a late-night dessert after an evening at Steppenwolf, Mindy's offers a unique and delightful dining experience. Take lunch, for example. Start with a bowl of steaming vegetable or chicken noodle or tomato soup. I love shrimp and the "Shrimp Louie" wedge salad with grilled shrimp and bibb lettuce and chopped bacon and crumbled farm egg is a keeper. How about a sandwich? The "French Dip" is roasted turkey in a baguette with stock vegetable mustard, giardiniera, provolone, turkey jus and house-made chips. Or the burger with Slagel Farm beef, bacon, four-year cheddar, pickles on a house-made sesame bun with house-made chips. Or the cured salmon bagel, a slice of citrus cured salmon with whipped citrus-chive cream cheese, local farm cucumbers, red onion and caper berries on a sesame bagel. The kids love the mac and cheese. And the hot chocolate served with house-made marshmellows reminds you of when you were growing up and mom had it waiting when you came in from the cold and snow. Sweet treats? Mindy's warm brioche bread pudding with spiced pears and burnt honey semifreddo is to die for. So are the peanut butter frozen mousse, banana ice cream sandwich and maple sugar pie. If you are a chocolate addict -- and who isn't? -- you probably already have been to Mindy's. If not, add it to your bucket list.

My husband and I love all things Chicago, but Mindy's definitely hit the top of our restaurant faves. With rich flavors and nice portions, we ate our hearts out at dinner. Despite being totally satisfied with incredibly decadent burger (my husband's choice), and the freshest fish I've had in the Midwest, we still found ourselves hungry for dessert. The chocolate cake is like none you've ever tasted and will definitely make you want to come back, even if just for dessert.

I really wanted to like Mindy's. I think my expectations were so high when I went that I was going to be disappointed no matter what. I had heard fantastic things about Mindy's, but I didn't experience any of it. First, the portions were average. I expected more for the price. And for that price, I expected better quality. Dessert for two people sharing a hot chocolate game out to about $45 with tax and tip. Most full-service restaurants that I've been to have better desserts. The atmosphere was cute. I could see charging the high prices for the date-like atmosphere, but neither the hot chocolate nor the desserts themselves were that good. I see no reason why I'd return when I can get better desserts from other places.

My daughter and I split a dark chocolate with extra espresso shot caffe. My son in law had the milk chocolate hot chocolate. Each comes with a square marshmallow. Pure chocolate, whichever you choose. Excellent quality ingredients. Will return!

My husband, two adult children, and I had dinner and, of course, desssert here the other night, and we couldn't have had a better experience. From the bottle of Chardonnay to the small plates (burrata with garden fresh tomatoes, mussels, octopus salad, salmon tartare) and two entrees (chicken thighs, smoked white fish) and several desserts (Mindy's doughnuts with hot fudge and caramel popcorn, bananas several ways, red velvet cake with raspberries and creme brûlée icing, dark hot chocolate with homemade marshmallow), everything was delicious, beautifully presented, and served with a smile. Highly recommend!!

We were spending the weekend in Chicago with 12 family members. One of them recommended Mindy's. The reservation process was easy, especially with this large group. The service was great. Our kids fell in love with their mac and cheese! All of our food was good. We ended the evening with hot chocolate. I believer there was 6 different versions and they all came with homemade marshmallows. Delicious!

We came here on recommendation from a friend, who typically has good recommendations. Not this one. We came here for dessert on a Friday night and had to wait 15 min to be seated. The ambiance is wonderful; the dining area is dimly lit and has a romantic feel. Unfortunately, their dessert was not good. We shared the chess pie and Mexican hot chocolate. There is an additional charge for splitting the hot chocolate. The chess pie was terrible. Our homemade brownies are better! It wasn't soft or chewy. It wasn't rich or chocolatey either. The Mexican hot chocolate was also a disappointment. Authentic Mexican hot chocolate should be so thick that you can dip churros in. This one is just a normal hot chocolate with cayenne pepper. It has nothing to do with Mexican hot chocolate! The house-made marshmallow is so heavy we felt extremely bloated afterwards. We left without finishing the pie or the hot chocolate. There are better dessert places in Chicago (check out Alliance Bakery).

This restaurant has been acknowledged by the James Beard foundation. I opted for the panini of the day which was turkey confit, cranberry, cheese, sauce and a tea. Since I was alone they offered me a seat at the bar but a table is where I sat. It is a warm and comfortable environment. The panini was a little too fatty for me and it was served with a large amount of housemate potato chips. If there is a next time I will go for a half sandwich and maybe a soup to cut down on the fat level. Although I did not choose a chocolate, they seem to specialize in hot chocolate products.

You can never go wrong with any dessert or hot chocolate on Mindy's menu. The hot chocolate is extremely rich, but so good. My favorite dessert is the warm pear brioche, which is perfection!

I've been to this place several times and I love it. Its great to go just to sit at the bar and get a beer or a spritzer, for brunch or for a birthday or family dinner. I have tried them all. I obviously recommend the burger, the big pancake and of course the hot chocolate. Accommodation can be a little messy sometimes when the place is packed so for "service" I gave it 4 stars, but it's not really a big deal.

Went to Mindy's Hot Chocolate on a Friday afternoon. It is a cute place to have lunch with friends over some creative and delicious meals in a casual yet inviting atmosphere. It is evident that high end ingredients are used in putting together their recipes. The meals were simple but tasted well above what the average comfort food tastes like. The burger was flavorful, but my favorite was the Mac and Cheese. My poor son ordered the Mac and Cheese but I couldn't keep my fork from venturing often into his dish because it was so good. The peanut butter milkshake was also probably the best I have ever had. My husband had the cake of the day and I had the chocolate mouse and both were good as well.

this restaurant has been on my go to list and finally we stopped by for brunch, just great food. we enjoyed brunch and plan to visit again for dinner. the Mexican hot chocolate was my favorite along with the brioche doughnuts. we also tried the avocado toast, shrimp and polenta, homemade sourdough bread. many selections to try, should have been here sooner!

We just stopped for desserts after dinner elsewhere. Can't speak to much other than the few desserts we tried, but I would speak loudly in favor of them! Stout and salted caramel malted, you're kidding right. I can't do dairy and this dairy I gladly did. Doughnuts and caramel corn, holy Moses they were good. The topper though, was Maple Sugar pie. I have clearly died and gone to heaven. Sour Cream Ice cream, sweet potato purée and pulled praline? A twisted sugar fairy clearly runs this place. Only turnoff, the bartender apparently didn't like our sitting at the bar just having dessert. How can a bummer behind the bar be all around all those good sweets and not smile a little?

This is a packed brunch type place, but not overly loud, can have normal conversation. Line will form, so try a reservation. Interesting menu that may not be for everyone; not typical make your own omelette with a big listing of options nor pancakes, crepes, waffles and fresh fruits. One pancake on menu and it take 20 minutes prep time. Chicken biscuit sandwich, great burger, fancy donuts, semi mexican egg option, great bacon. Dark hot chocolate, if you like dark, is way better then the milk chocolate version. Service is fine. Wait for food can be a bit long. Quality is good.

Heard about the hot chocolate and were amazed by the food. It is loud but well worth not being able to hear anyone. The beer selection was also very extensive. This is a must stop place.

Whoever said you should never meet your heroes because they will disappoint has never idolized Mindy Segal or dined at Hot Chocolate. I had a corn salad and the lamb steak. The tzatziki accompanying it was the best I ever had. I relied on the waitress’ suggestion for wine, the name of which is lost to me; it fit my meal like a glove. For dessert, I had a black raspberry lemon sorbet made in house from local berries. I finished with Mexican hot chocolate, a drink I have always wanted to try. At long last, I don’t simply understand the magic behind novels like Chocolat & Like Water for Chocolate, I have lived it. I took home a box of cookies to continue the experience. The entire waitstaff were wonderful, attentive but not over-bearing. The entire dinner surpassed my expectations. I am planning on enticing my friends to take a road trip to Chicago so they too can share this experience.

So we were visiting friends in Chicago over the July 4th long weekend, and our hosts were constantly raving about this place. Unfortunately, they'd had some windows smashed and were closed for a few days, BUT luckily on our last day they reopened for brunch and we were able to get a table. There were 4 of us, we had a short wait (about 15mins), but it was totally worth it. We had a good mix of dishes between us including both sweet and savory, and everything was just divine. The drinks were delicious and the food was amazing. Definitely recommend this place and will be back next time we visit Chicago!

We decided to drive into the city for a late dinner. Although we did not have reservations, the wait was not bad. Once seated, our witress was very friendly, cool and knowledgable of the menu. I had the Ribeye, which was excellent! My wife had the burger, which she also enjoyed. They had a nice variety of desserts, but we skipped them because we wanted the Hot Chocolate which was awesome. Everything there is provided by local farms and the marshmallows for the chocolate was made in house!

Unfortunately, I cannot review the restaurant as I was there between lunch and dinner service times when they close down table service. However, I decided to try one of the signature hot chocolates, the Mexican. OMG, simply the best hot chocolate I ever tasted. On the pricey side, but the perfect punctuation on a nippy day. I will be going back when in the area.

Wow! We were blown away by all the different hot chocolate options. The old fashioned was the closest to the best I’ve ever had (in Prague) and a whole lot closer! The lunch selections were not extensuve but tasty and went well with the main event beverages. We will be back!

We were recommended to come here by our bartender at the MAP room. Fresh ingredients, deep flavors, great staff. Definitely worth a visit.

We went for Sunday brunch with a 10 am reservation. We were seated promptly. Our egg, pancake, and waffle dishes were amazing. The waitress spilled hot French press coffee all on my forearm. She said sorry, sometimes they leak. We got hot chocolates to go. They were very rich. Mine had hot fudge in it. What a sugar high.

I recently went to Mindy's as the final leg of a great date. It wasn't particularly good. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. I have great memories of Mindy's and have always been a fan, so I was surprised. We had 1 hot chocolate, 2 cocktails, and 2 desserts. The hot chocolate, was, of course, thick and lovely. The 2 cocktails were not particularly well made. The balance was just ... off. The 2 desserts were fruit-based desserts. The crust on each was really bland. The fruit tasted like it had just been plopped in there, no seasoning or spices. We left half our dessert and cocktails and decided to call it a draw. Service was a bit slow, but it's a crowded place, so who can blame them. Overall, for the cost, time, and quality of food and drink, I give it a below average score - I would say below average, but the chocolate was good.

Went on Bucktown -Wicker food tour. Had the Iced chocolate with the homemade marshmallow. It was like having a decadent drinkable dessert. Will come back for lunch and to try the pastry. My favorite place on the food tour.

Of course, I had to try the hot chocolate - butterscotch. It was amazingly rich and decadent, full of flavor and quite sweet. The mac and cheese was excellent - but the sauce was so rich, with nothing to cut it, that I couldn't actually finish it. My husband loved the quiche of the day along with strong coffee. Would have liked to go for brunch but it was completely booked up, so we ended up here for lunch on a weekday.

This is a favorite of mine when in the Chicago area- we had lunch this time- the food is always amazing, fresh and flavorful. This time I had the market salad with shrimp- I highly recommend it! The medium hot chocolate is the perfect blend of milk and dark chocolate- the staff is cordial and friendly--

The BEST hot chocolate EVER!! My daughter, who lives in Chicago had been there before and suggested we go. We LOVED it!! Highly recommended! I wanna go back again and get food, it looked amazing as we saw trays coming by.

Started with the Brisket hash, which was yummy and had the hot chocolate (which they are known for) and was very satisfied. Reservations made well in advance.

Neighborhood bakeries that produce fresh pastries, cakes and pies seem to be going out of style. I recall when there were three or four bakeries within walking distance of our condominium in the Gold Coast/Old Town area. No longer. Thank goodness for Mindy's Bakery. It's a drive but it's worth it. Located at 1623 North Milwaukee Avenue, at North Avenue and Damen, in the Wicker Park/West Town neighborhood, it is a grab-and-go, no cash operation that offers bagels, bialys, pastries, coffeecake, Danish Dough, donuts, croissants, cream cheese pastry and desserts. Also cookies, bars, cake by the slice, bread of the day, cheese spreads, cupcakes and sour cream dough tarts. Award-winning pastry chef Mindy Segal, who learned her craft by working at such noted restaurants as Charlie Trotter's, Ambria and MK, opened her first restaurant, Hot Chocolate, in 2005. In 2012, she was awarded "Outstanding Pastry Chef in the Country" by the James Beard Foundation. After closing Hot Chocolate in 2020--it was a victim of the pandemic--she opened Mindy's in 2022. Open from 7:30 to 3 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 8 to 3 on Saturday and Sunday, she offers such unique items as hot chocolate with home-made marshmallow and Framboise red velvet with cream cheese raspberry swirl buttercream cupcakes and a slice of chocolate buttercream cake with hot fudge and chocolate buttercream and Danish dough with salami, pimento cheese, egg, cheddar, chive and parmesan. I can't resist a bag of loaded chocolate chip cookies, dark chocolate banana bread with pecans and a croissant with smoked ham, brown grainy mustard and Gruyere cheese.

I've only ever gotten takeaway from here but the hot and & iced chocolates are amazing!!!! And the cookies are also wonderful... fresh and delicious!

Over the years, I heard people rave about Mindy's Hot Chocolate and finally decided to see what all the hype was about. Well let me tell you..now I finally get it! The hot chocolate is beyond scrumptious and the homemade marshmallows complete the world's most perfect cup of hot chocolate! The entrees are also divine! I had a pepper and egg sandwich and my nieces had the macaroni and cheese which they both LOVED! For desert we tried the donuts...amazing! The ambiance is eclectic yet homie. The servers are friendly and attentive. Needless to say...I will definitely be back!

If you're going to a place with "hot chocolate" in the name....get the hot chocolate! I got the dark hot chocolate per our server's recommendation and it's hands down the best hot chocolate I've ever had! I couldn't finish it all, but it was 100% worth the $8! It also comes with a house made marshmallow! Just so good! The menu is fabulous and I think it had a great variety. I went out of my go-to breakfast comfort zone and got the quinoa bowl. It was delicious with each bite offering a new flavor. It was full of lots of delicious veggies and the puree had a hint of curry which was a nice addition. It also was very filling! The atmosphere was great and it was the perfect brunch location for our girls weekend in Chicago!

A good selection of tasty treats are on offer but these treats aren't being given away. Albeit, if you want to treat yo'self, I would highly recommend the Mexican hot chocolate...with extra marshmallows!!

Finally made it here after hearing about it from many friends. It has a warm, friendly feel which was much appreciated on a cold winter night. We parked right out front and enjoyed appetizers, salads and, of course, the hot chocolate!!

Our son took us here for dessert one evening after we arrived in town to visit him. I loved the dark hot chocolate, which was rich, decadent, and delicious. It came with a homemade marshmallow. My husband ordered a plate of cookies, which we all shared. It was an assortment of 13 varieties, and all were delicious. Their dessert menu looked amazing; I hope to visit again to try some of the other offerings, but it will be hard to forego the hot chocolate. We sat at the bar, and service was excellent. It was a bit loud, but otherwise the atmosphere was great.

This was so wonderful! It is more of a pricey place, so we went and did a sort of dessert bar. We tried I believe four different desserts and had a cheese tray. This was incredible food and worth every penny!

The BLT sandwich is just delicious and the Hot Chocolate drinks are okay. The place itself is spacious and service attentive.

Mindy's came highly recommended by a local friend and it was well worth the hour or so wait to get a table for brunch. The menu had lots to choose from so ordered a cocktail to start while deciding what to have as everything looked great! My partner went for a classic brioche french toast and I chose the Salmon Bagel finished by a Mindy's hot chocolate. A great neighbourhood gem.

We were in Chicago to visit family and I had read in a recent magazine about Mindy's. I tried the Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate and it was the best I had ever tasted. So rich and smooth and I loved the homemade marshmallows. We ordered Sunday Brunch. Everything was wonderful. It is definitely a place I want to try again for lunch and dinner. You definitely need to make reservations. We saw many disappointed faces walk away because they could not get a table. It was full the minute they opened on Sunday a.m.

We came to Mindy's to celebrate my birthday and had a fabulous meal! The food was well seasoned flavorful-for ex: my mussels were fresh and plump in an exceptionally tasty broth. It is a higher price point, something to be aware of before you go. I felt that we had a very special experience that was very fitting for the occasion. I tried to go back recently but the hostess informed us they were booked with no room for walk-ins. Also something to be aware of before heading out. I'm sure we will make it back soon enough!

Pure Awesomeness!!! The Hot Chocolate and Marshmallows are to Die for and the Food is Just as Amazing...the Breakfast was Fantastically Delicious!!! I Can't Wait to Go Back on My Next Visit!!! :)

We stopped for brunch on a busy Sunday, and we would definitely go back just for the hot chocolate! The staff was friendly and the food was ready in a reasonable time. Some of the dishes are smaller than expected, so make sure you ask questions before you decide. We tried to make a reservation, but there were none left; however, they do keep a few tables for walk ins, just make sure you get there early! We had no problem getting a seat, but noticed the restaurant filled up quickly.

Visited for Labor Day weekend and loved it. Although, it was super busy, we were well taking care of and our food came out quickly.. parking spot in the neighborhood wasn't difficult to find.

I ate a regular meal at the Hot Chocolate restaurant. It was half a chicken and it was excellent. However, I soon forgot the chicken after eating my dessert. The marshmallows are even homemade! There is also a large choice of hot chocolate. I wish I could have drank one, but I was so full I couldn't. My friend took one and I tasted. Exquisite! Don't miss it! You will dream of those desserts for ages.

Hot chocolate & food were exceptional! Just a fun place to enjoy friends, local culture & brunch. We tried several dishes (so many to choose from) & everything was spot on. We had 6 in our party so we tried several types of pastries & hot chocolate. The dark chocolate was to die for. The homemade marshmallows were amazing. Service was great as the servers knew their stuff. Quite crowded so that should tell you something. Hope to return there someday!

The hostess was a little snappy which almost ruined it for Mindy. Luckily the "baristo" & another young lady working the line were life preservers during my visit. Had it not been for the sheer coolness, apologies and good service of these 2 I'd give this place a huge thumbs down. There was not a line but somewhat of a crowd totally unorganized in the small space located at the entrance. If this sounds like a cluster F, that's exactly what I'm intending to convey. The seating/waiting/name taking system was terrible. There was no destination of who was waiting to be seated, who was trying to squeeze out the door or who was simply waiting for a drink to be made. All of these groups stood in the same area. And the hostess had the audacity to snap at me for asking if I could put my name down! "Ummm she can take your name over there, she's over there with the clipboard." Wow...your sitting here at the podium in front of the iPad lady. Anyway, the "baristo" was full of positive energy and I appreciated that. He explained the steps of making my dark hot chocolate and recommended my nephew & I split its richness. I also grabbed a couple mini treats from the display case. The dark chocolate thumbprint was delicious. In interior decor was nice and offered a good amount of seating. There was coffee, apparel, ceramic mugs and small gift items available for sale as well.

Easter Sunday. Just got home from Mindy's. I can't say enough positive things about this place. I'm from out of state but whenever I visit I love to stop in. There is always a line out the door but it is well worth the wait. The baked items are off the chart delicious from sweet to savory I haven't had a thing that hasn't been amazing! The staff is always patient, kind and efficient. Don't pass up the coffee/hot chocolate combo - it's crazy good. Thank you again to Mindy's for the best bakery experience in Chicago!

Great food and wonderful hot chocolate! We shared a great beet salad and the scrambled egg with duck. Both were excellent. They do a great twist on boiled potatoes. Smashed and then crisped over a flame. Do save room for the hot chocolate.

Great service, delicious food. Really fun and cute atmosphere. A perfect date spot. The hot chocolate is INSANELY good: it is definitely a stand-alone dessert.

Came on a food tour. Decadent iced chocolate: milk chocolate, dark chocolate and a drizzle of Carmel on ice topped with a homemade marshmallow: HIGHLY recommended!!!

We stopped in from the rain and our walk along the 606 path. It was around 3 in the afternoon and there were a bunch of people sitting and eating in the restaurant. We were told we could only order takeaway even after we asked if we could just enjoy our hot chocolate out of the rain while there were plenty of other diners eating their meals. Since I really wanted to try the hot chocolate, we did order and then leave to enjoy our very expensive drink in the rain. It was very delicious but we did find the experience to be a bit odd and unwelcoming.

This is not your mom’s hot chocolate. Delicious! And the dining options were varied and quite tasty. We are enjoying the leftover pancakes today!

We just did not get the hype around this hot chocolate...it is SO sweet and so rich you really don't want more than a few sips and so expensive.

Mindy's is a great date spot and when we went on an early Sunday evening, there were families there too. We weren't too hungry, so split the mac n cheese starter and got the carrot icebox cake for dessert. They were $13 each, which is a bit much for a starter. It's a dessert place, so I understand the desserts being expensive. There was so much more we wanted to try, but not at $13 a piece! I'll come with a group of friends next time so we can order a bunch of things and share. The reviews I've read are great for dinner too, but they didn't have too many vegetarian options.

The baked goodies are beyond belief. Especially the donuts. Coffee drinks also perfect! Not to be missed!

I just went for a dessert. A bit of wait and we were sitting at the bar. We opted for one of the hot chocolate. We wanted to share one and we could pay more to split it. Which made no sense so we did not ask to split it. The thing was an explosion of chocolate and a really thick drink. It was way too much even for two people. But oh my was it good. A once in a lifetime experience if you love chocolate and have the stomach for this.

Bliss. Rapture. Best cheeseburger I've ever eaten. Followed by desserts that defy description. A unique and creative menu where every single recipe has clearly been perfected.

Pros: many different hot chocolates to choose from, high-quality ingredients, big dessert menu, great for a date night Cons: expensive- $11 for a cup of hot chocolate, loud. Overall it was the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had. You could tell the chocolate was high quality and it was actually almost too rich. I couldn’t finish mine. My husband had the dark hot chocolate and I had the milk hot chocolate and I loved them both. Highly recommend.

When we travel to Chicago we make a point to visit Mindy's Hot Chocolate. The food is good the desserts are just GREAT.

We stopped by this gem as one of our stops on a wicker park food tour. The medium hot chocolate was literally to die for! Thicker than your ordinary hot chocolate with the perfect amount of sweetness! Super decadent and rich. The homemade marshmallow was good, but merely an afterthought compared to the hot chocolate! We only tried the iced hot chocolate, but I'm looking forward to a warm mug full next time with a melty marshmallow!

Had a great Saturday brunch with the family! Got there when it opened at 10:00am and were promptly seated and served. Had great attention from waiters. The place got filled right await and the plates took some time to get to the table. The wait was worth it when we got our plates. The orange juice was freshly made and very tasty. The coffee was very good and very strong. So be aware and order a lighter blend if you do not like strong coffee. We had the Bistro French Toast with sausage and it was excellent! Also the polenta cake plate and it was very tasty! The place has a great atmosphere and is very pleasant. I look forward to coming back and trying the Hot Chocolate!

I brought my out of town friends to Mindy's for a burger. It was the juiciest and most delicious burger we all had! No frills, just good slagel beef, bacon, cheddar, pickle, house made sesame bun and chips. The only request or change we all had was to have fries instead of chips. The milkshake is to die for as well, rich chocolate and milk! Make a reservation before you go.

Came in on a Saturday night with friends and family. Desserts were over priced and not tasty at all. Highly disappointed. Probably wouldn't try it again.

Was in town for business, but took an evening to meet a friend for a treat. Wow. Nothing short of divine. Mac and cheese was rich and hearty, but not too heavy. The butterscotch hot chocolate was... Wow. I don't even have words for it. I can't wait to go back again the next time I'm in town. I've tried to replicate it at home, but nothing comes close. Highly recommend!

Went here for breakfast on our first day. We had some rich egg bacon pastry and a chocolate iced donut. For drinks we each had dark hot chocolate with a home made marshmallow on top. This hot chocolate is made with several types of chocolate, milk and creme. The donuts had just been voted best in city. This is no t a low calorie place but it is great tasting.

One word: Expensive! I ordered the bread pudding, which was one of the best desserts I've ever had. My husband ordered ice cream and found it pricy for such a small serving (three tiny scoops). No need to order hot chocolate AND dessert. I had about three sips of mine.

Went for Saturday brunch with friends. Ordered the quiche with salad and of course one of their famous hot chocolates. The meal was delicious but the drink was the high light - thick and rich - almost like drinking a chocolate bar! Definitely worth the trip.

I was in Chicago for the Global Food Tourism Conference. A group of us decided to eat at Hot Chocolate after we heard Mindy talk. The Mac and Cheese was wonderful and the hamburgers were cooked to perfection. The margarita was one of the best I have ever had. My only disappointment was I asked if you served Sweetgrass Cheese and the waitress said only in the spring. I wanted to show the cheese off, since it is from my hometown. But I can't fault you on that! My experience was Great! The group had a great time as well! I can't wait to go back the next time I am in Chicago!

Checked out the Revival Food Hall location in The Loop. This place has one of the top 3 chocolate chip cookies I've ever had (I've had a lot). Maybe THE best I've ever enjoyed! The cinnamon roll was also good, but the cookies are a true gem!

We had hot chocolate - iced! - on a food tour. Really, really good. Homemade marshmallow on top. Our whole party wants to go back for a meal. Nice looking place and it smelled wonderful!

Came here for some amazing hot chocolate on a food tour and loved it enough to come back. It was Sunday brunch time and though it was packed, we got a place for 2 at the bar immediately. Had to try the food to see if it was as good as they said... and it was pretty awesome. But of course had to try a different hot chocolate, which was also just amazing, but I would recommend splitting the hot chocolate (which I later realized was an option on the menu, or just sharing and saving the $) if you fill up quickly bc I couldn't eat my whole meal.

I would give my dessert, a pumpkin cheesecake with cranberry, a 5/5 for sure. The signature hot chocolate drinks are very indulgent, but far too rich for one person- actually, my partner and I split one and left some still. The dinner food is over priced and not spectacular. I told my server that I didn't eat meat, so he suggested a pasta dish that ended up coming with meat. I suppose I could have Googled the obscure meat before trusting him, but conveniently we had no cell signal all night (let's blame it on the snowstorm). The tables in the front are cramped if you have a party of two, and are right by the giant window, so it gets cold. The table is tiny, too. I guess your best bet is to ask to sit in the back and stick to dessert/wine/cider!

We went to Hot Chocolate for dinner. The entrees were ok. The roasted half chicken was good but very salty. The saffran agnolotti was watery and a bit blend. But the desserts and the hot chocolate were fabulous. I had the Banilla nilla. It made me think I was in heaven!

My wife and I have been here several times. It's not terribly convenient for us to get there. Sometimes it's almost impossible to get a reservation unless you plan well in advance. It can be a little cramped for space and noisy. All that being said, it is incredibly FANTASTIC in SO many ways. Service is efficient, coordinated well between servers, bussers, and bar staff. The wait staff typically has a strong handle on the menu and the better adult beverages. We have gone for brunch and for dinner. Both meals are typically a unique experience. Mindys excels in great seafood preparations particularly at dinner. Fish is always fresh and imaginatively prepared, without being overpriced. Brunch is my personal favorite. Their scrambles and pastry type dishes are always spot on! Even if all of the above were merely average, I would continue to go back for the hot chocolate. Mindys serves several different varieties, all in a VERY generously oversized coffee cup. I've tried several but the dark chocolate variety is maybe the most soul-satisfying drink I've ever had. Thick, incredibly creamy, and densely flavored. Plus they come with homemade marshmallows. (Drooling). If you love chocolate, go. Get an amazing meal and then top it off with a chocolate drink that may redefine your understanding of how good something so simple can be.

Had dinner - was fantastic. The sprouts were great, dinner was wonderful and I’m still thinking of the marshmallows! The only downside is that it was crowded (because it’s yummy) but it was hard to hear. Highly recommend!!

Food was good. Mac and Cheese was excellent. Service was very good. The chef would not allow a side order of rice with my dish. (It was on the menu, with another dish) Not appreciated! The noise level was difficult for casual conversation. Lots of background noise. Four of us for dinner, one drink each and 3 deserts equals $200 plus, not including tip. Deserts were $11. to $13. each. (Good, but not worth the price) Three out of 3 did not like the Sangria. Value is subjective. In consideration of the noise and some pricing, I didn't feel that the value was there.

I'll get to the point. The coleslaw that came with my meal was outstanding, inspirational -- perhaps the best coleslaw I have ever had. It seemed to be comprised of very finely sliced cabbage with other vegetable bits and a uniquely flavored dressing which will definitely bring me back. My entree was a cheeseburger which was very good -- prepared with care but not precious. It came with (I think) restaurant-made chips which were also very good. When I arrived at the restaurant at about 7:30 on a Friday for dinner, it was quite crowded, but, the greeter was efficient and attentive so I was able to sit immediately. The bartender was very busy but got to me rather quickly. 5 stars for coleslaw. 4 stars for everything else.

Food was good and creative. The dark chocolate hot chocolate was incredible. Enjoyed sharing a couple of small plates. Was crowded with a long wait but lucked up and got 2 seats at the bar.

I'm reviewing this place for what it is: an upscale dessert restaurant & bar. $$$$. My hot chocolate was exceptionally good (and exceptionally expensive at $8). A nice treat for every once in a while I suppose, but not a place to frequent.

I've heard a lot about Mindy's hot chocolate so I just had to try it and I'm glad I did! The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was cute. It is important to know, though that if you are in between meal times (i believe it is around 2:30-4:00ish) you can only get something to go, you can't sit down. Besides that fact, I'm so glad I went to try the hot chocolate because it was delicious. I had the [i think it was called] mild hot cocoa which was milk chocolate with a touch of caramel. My mom had the butterscotch which was the seasonal flavor. Definitely recommend checking out Mindy's!

Ate here with my Mom and sister just for dessert so I can't speak to the food but the dessert and hot chocolate were incredible. You will never have a hot chocolate that is as delicious as Mindy's. The desserts we tried were also incredible. Book in advance and be sure to take home some hot chocolate mix and marshmallows!

I was dragged into this place for dinner and I was thinking a restaurant named with dessert what am I going to eat. Boy I was wrong they had the best food, cheese plates, salads and yes the best Hot Chocolate I have ever had.

My husband and I stopped in on a cold rainy Saturday and the place was packed. We chose to get our drinks to go and skip the meal due to how busy they were and how near we were to the closing time. I ordered the Medium hot chocolate and my husband ordered the half & half hot chocolate. Both were delicious. Mine tasted like I was drinking a candy bar but in the most delicious way possible. It had that wonderful candy bar taste but wasn't too thick. It had a very smooth texture. My husband said his tasted like drinking chocolate covered coffee beans which he loves. He gave me his marshmallow which I put in my hot chocolate with my own marshmallow. I just loved her homemade marshmallows and I think it's a nice touch. I'd highly recommend this place if you are in the area and need a hot chocolate. It's a bit expensive for a drink ($7 each) but I found the quality and taste worth the price.

Hot Choclate can successfully do many things. Located in a really nice part of Wicker Part, the establishment does everything from takeout coffee, espresso drinks and, of course, hot chocolate and associated snacks to full service lunches and dinners. Food choices are good quality basics usually with a tasty twist. My service experiences here have been very good. The chef/owner is noted for her desert offerings. Deserts are excellent quality American basics, think brownies etc.; not my favorite style of sweet but very popular with many.

Went here for the first time and was recommended by my friend who is a local in Wicker Park. Had to stand in line for 20 minutes but definitely worth it. Had an array of tasty looking pasties and bakery items. I got a roasted onion from age blanc and Parmesan bialys with cream cheese and a cheesecake danish with their famous hot chocolate grande au lait (chocolate latte).

This cute little place in and of itself was enough to make me consider relocating. The food was so very tasty and they give very abundant portions. I was in Chicago for all of four days and stopped in twice. During my first go round I had the Mac and cheese and half grilled chicken. They are both great options and was seasoned to perfection. I had the "vieux cerré" and the "all inclusive." Both pretty tasty and come with a huge square/ cube of ice respectfully. I'm big on appearance and the serving of the drinks definitely delivered. Our server Zach was very attentive, knowledgable on the menu and it helped that her was super handsome. I couldn't fit in another bite but was eager to try their dessert special hence my second trip. For dessert I enjoyed the lemon tart which was the perfect mesh of sweetness and tartness. I can't rave about this place enough. They have a wide variety of music going and the vibe is very cool. Our second waiter, Aaliyah (sorry if I spelled your name wrong) was also extremely kind, down to earth, quirky and talkative. God, I wanna go back.

We were stuffed but from some reason I couldn't pass up Mindy's. Ordered an iced dark hot chocolate. Took one sip and turned around to buy hot chocolate to take home. Delicious!!!! I don't care for marshmallows and I ate two. Worth the stop.

Been waiting to make a trip to Chicago and this was a spot I was going too. Had lunch. The burger was excellent. I added the egg on top. All cooked to perfection. As a pastry chef who owns a bakery, I looked forward to trying desserts. We tried the Strawberry Shortcake, Blackberry blueberry tart and a cake of the day which was a layered chocolate cake with chocolate covered toffee. All were delicious. Bought some cookies to go and snacked on those later, yum! Thanks Mindy and staff, you made it worth the trip from California.

I've brought my parents here and a close friend and they've all acclaimed how amazing this place is. The food is great, but the hot chocolate is amazing! The homemade marshmallows melt in the generous sized mugs of your choice of hot chocolate (my faves being the dark and milk chocolate ). I've also tried the mac and cheese and highly recommend that as well. Looking forward to cooler weather to head back to this place!

Mindy's is famous for her hot chocolate and other desserts, but the food is pretty awesome. There were 5 of us who ordered a number of appetizers to share which were all outstanding - especially the octopus. We also ordered a few main dishes including steak and a squid ink pasta dish. The service was excellent. This is a place to which we will return.

This place was recommended to us by a Chicago food blogger (powderedbydoughnuts on instagram) We went there for dinner knowing they have made to order doughnuts for dessert. But what we didn't know was how good the food was going to be. Amazing! I had the Market Grain Bowl with a perfect poached egg on top, and added shrimp. My wife had the burger and it was extremely flavorful. Then we both had Hot Chocolates and Mindy's Doughnuts, again very good. The atmosphere is cool, music playing, and beautiful rough luxe decor. We took a Uber from the city and it was a quick and inexpensive ride, def worth it.

We didn’t have reservations. Even though the place was full, we quickly got a table for two. The seating and tables did feel a little cramped. We had gone to Mindy’s expressly to try out the hot chocolate and I do have to say it was pretty good. The Avocado Toast was real good too. It lived up to the billing and met my expectations. I know that it is the practice to serve the hot chocolate with a marshmallow. In other countries I’ve seen it served with cheese that melts a bit in the hot chocolate. I would have liked to have had that option as well. Nonetheless, overall very very good.

My wife and I went out to Mindy’s for a slightly late birthday dinner, and we were definitely not disappointed. A small but good draft beer selection - you can’t go wrong with some hoppy New England-style IPAs. We shared the beet salad and the octopus to start. The beet salad was delightfully tangy, with the pomegranate, avocado and goats cheese making an exciting contrast against the citrus explosion. The octopus was ordered without chorizo, though this was lost in communication with the kitchen. The waiter helpfully and efficiently rectified this as soon as he was aware. The octopus was very skilfully charred and thoroughly enjoyable. For entrees we chose the sea bass, which was very well cooked and accompanied by some delicious pearl onions, and the squid ink chitarra with sautéed shrimp, which was very enjoyable if a little too spicy - fewer chiles would have made the dish slightly less overpowering and more enjoyable. For dessert we enjoyed two hot chocolates (why not!) and split the apple crisp, which was phenomenally good. The only main downside was the draft coming through the window directly where we were sitting - understandable given the time of year but did mean my wife had to leave her coat on. Generally a very enjoyable meal, we will definitely return.

Menu changes weekly for fresh food. Food was tasty and artfully crafted. Hot chocolate was delicious. There are many different types to choose from.

I remember visiting this place years ago and it had more of an uppity feel to it. I prefer this version of Mindy's... the staff are friendly, the food is delicious and the decor is gorgeous. We had the Octopus and Pretzel Bite appetizers. The pretzels were okay, but just tasted like warm bread, not pretzels. I'd skip that one. But the Octopus was wonderful, as was the rabbit and gnocchi entree. The gnocchi is very unique - large and light/fluffy - try it!! An all around wonderful visit.

Great service at bar, the hot chocolate is a staple. Always a enjoyable family outing. New doughnuts with jam a family favorite.

Visited this place with kids, just amazingly good food. We had Salmon Bagels, Turkey Paninni, The Tomato soup was excellent also. Just great drinks too and top service. Just eat here!

The food tasted good but I left hungry. I got the salmon and you get one piece with cream sauce with capers on it and four very small pieces of endive and that's it for 25.oo. I told the waitress I was hungry and she said that would fill me up. I was not happy. For me the 1st rule of dining out is you can't pay quite a bit and leave hungry! The dessert at 13.00 was not worth it either. It was tasty but not worth 13 for a small dessert. I will not be returning. I'm very surprised that this place has gotten good reviews. We actually went their based on a review and left hungry and disappointed. If they are going to give you such small portions then at least put some bread on the table or something. It would have cost soo little to put some kind of side with this. Chicago has too many other options. I think a restaurant has to do better than this.

Our son took me here for my birthday and it was a very memorable occasion. The entrees were delicious but not oversized, which is important, because although the food was first rate, this place is all about DESSERT!! We had the cake of the day (naturally it came on a plate with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate sauce) and their home-made ice cream in 3 different flavors, all of these set the table to sighing and smiling! What a very nice place

I somehow always manage to come here when it's closed before dinner so I got hot chocolate to go. I got the medium hot chocolate which is a mix of milk and dark chocolate and caramel. I also ordered 6 marshmallows because they are delightfully fluffy and the best tasting marshmallows I've had. They inspire me to make my own. (Someday) I did pay just under $10 for the hot chocolate and marshmallows so this place is a bit pricey but it is worth it for a good treat.

Ok you must try this 8 dollar hit chocolate that you think you can make yourself but let’s be real with ourselves , is not going to come out as good as that beautiful hot chocolate i had there . It’s true what some one else said you can’t go wrong with a place that is called hot chocolate . But that’s not what even inspired me to write this review ,it was that beautiful amazing bread pudding I mean it just takes you to a place you never been before . Each bite will make you feel so happy .. it’s a beautiful feeling that will not make you feel as if your about to get a cavity because of all the sugar . I mean the taste was just perfect . And it’s worth paying 13 dollars for it because it’s a feeling that you can not get with a cheaper dessert . So I also had a ginger bread something something it’s a brand new dessert so please ask for the right name . But I think that one was really sweet for my taste . But that place it’s so good that it’s actually worth us driving 45 minutes to experience that addictive feeling . Oh and the ambience is awesome I love the decor very chilled and laid back .

You go to Mindy's for the hot chocolate and the place does not disappoint. Both the food and hot chocolate is very good here but the service (at least when I went) was not great. We were told the kitchen has closed instead of being asked for our last orders and had to take our hot chocolates in to go cups because they wouldn't let us stay for 10 more mins. We were there for less than an hour. Anyway I do recommend this place for its food and delicious hot chocolate.

The food was also very unique and delicious. We were here for lunch and the burgers were very good. Daughter had eggs and potatoes that were done just right for her and she gave it two thumbs up. The hot chocolate came with homemade marshmallows that were amazing. The restaurant was very eclectic and had a cool vibe.

Cute, warm little café. Had the earl grey tea at the bar and a lovely talk with friends. The sweets and other beverages looked great. Quiet during the day

This is a perfect restaurant for the cold weather with many options for decadent hot chocolate and divine house made marshmallows. I also had the quiche with butternut squash, bacon and Gruyere, but saved some of the hot chocolate for dessert.

One of my favorite places in Chicago to date!!! You obviously have to get the hot chocolate with their homemade marshmallows. But the food is also very inventive and Devine.

I have people bragging about Mindy's and I had to visit. Let me tell you the best decision I ever made. The portion size is just right, food is great and value for money and their signature lies in their hot chocolate obviously. I had a mint hot chocolate with a marshmallow and OMG, I could go back there at any given time. I also bought two hot chocolate mix (Mexican and dark chocolate) to take back home. I was also lucky enough to meet Mindy herself and appreciated her interaction.

Went for brunch on Father's Day and the food was outstanding. The hot chocolate is a must! We each had a different type and they were rich and smooth. The seasonal quiche was very light and the crust, which I normally leave behind, will have you going back for more. The Brioche french toast was also great. Will definitely return.

We went to mindy's as it was part of a food tour. The hot chocolate we got was really tasty, but after half of the cup i couldn't drink it anymore cause it was just too sweet. Most of the group liked it though. But what i would highly recommend are the homemade marshmallows - they are awesome!!

This is a very special place and they have excellent iced and hot chocolate. Worth a trip for this alone. They have a menu, a dessert bar, and pastries. You can't go wrong dining here. There is a nice large room upstairs for seating.

I love sugar, I really love sugar... but this is too much sugar. I had the chocolate chip cookie and a hot black chocolate, both too sweet.

We tried this place off of a recommendation from one of our vendors. It did not disappoint! We went for breakfast (brunch they open at 10), sat at the bar and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The bartender was very nice, knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. We loved the feel in this place and since we are big time foodies, we loved that it was an open kitchen concept. The food was delicious, perfectly seasoned and the portions were perfect. I had to try the Mexican Hot Chocolate with their homemade marshmallows, OMG it was rich and yummy with a little bit of spice! So good! We will absolutely be back...

I stopped in on a typical cold day with snow flurries during the weekend; they only serve 10am-2pm and then its take out until 5:30pm; so plan accordingly if you actually want to eat there; the hot chocolate definitely hit the spot I was warm in about 5 minutes; blue line to damen station and its 4 blocks from there; there is a hot chocolate menu and the homemade marshmallows are tasteful

We were two couples for dinner. The menu is not enormous, but it touches all the meat/fish/poultry/veg bases. We started with shared grilled octopus and beet salad, both excellent. Three of us had the Fish of the Day (pan grilled whitefish) and one had the on-menu Pork Chop. Again, all excellent. The desserts, including ice cream creations and the eponymous Hot Chocolate were yummy. Beers are interesting and moderately priced. Wines by the glass are interesting and quite expensive ($14 mostly). Entrees are generally moderately priced (mid-$20s, except for ribeye steak). I thought the starters and the desserts, while excellent, were quite costly. I really enjoyed the grilled octopus, but thought the portion was skimpy for $17. I had a cheese plate for dessert--very nice but it was $12 for two modest slices of cheese (plus some olives, jam, and bread). Altogether, with tax and tip, dinner was about $150 per couple. Noise level: just on the ok side of tolerable. It was pretty energetic, but you didn't need to shout to be heard by table mates. Service pleasant, sometimes a little slow.
Calling all hot chocolate lovers...
It was a very blustery day in Chicago when I visited with my husband and decided it was very necessary to find a place for a hot chocolate fix. I love, love, love hot chocolate. I prefer mine a bit on the sweeter than on the bitter side and when I found Mindy's Hot Chocolate I couldn't wait to get inside! I don't really remember what I ate for lunch, that's not to say it wasn't tasty which it was, it just wasn't what I was focused on. The hot chocolate options all sounded great and I chose the Black and Tan, it involved hot fudge so it was a no-brainer. The housemade marshmallow was perfect. I miss it just writing this up...
