This place is amazing. Excellent food, great service. Every dish was just perfect. We went for an early dinner. Greeted by friendly staff. Impeccable dinning room and lively atmosphere. Service was great, and was attended to by multiple staff during our meal. Food was just superb. By early evening the bar was filling up with a good crowd that made the vibe more exciting. Definitely the place to go in Chicago. Oh, and the views and location are unmatched.

Being a big fan of Lettuce Entertainer You restaurants, I was excited when I heard that Miru had just opened while I was visiting Chicago! I was able to get an afternoon reservation and we went for a light lunch and drinks. From our table, we had beautiful views overlooking the Chicago river and Navy Pier setting a nice ambiance. We ordered the Shiso Fancy and an Espresso Martini for drinks and the Spicy Bluefin Tuna Crispy Rice and the Spicy Salmon Maki to eat. There was a bit of a wait and we received, and finished both of the food items before either of our drinks came out. (I want to add that the plates are smaller sized and recommended to get more than what we ordered, the restaurant was in its very first week of opening, and the bar and restaurant were full.) We understood they were new and busy and had no intention of making a complaint. Without saying a word, the manager brought us complimentary glasses of champagne and apologized for the wait. It actually worked out too because I was still hungry and ordered the Crispy Pork Fried Rice which ended up being my favorite dish! Overall, the experience was enjoyable, just a little slow, so I am giving 4 stars.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Excellent dining experience. The food is phenomenal and the dining room is stunning. I think service might still need a bit of work - they were slammed but not every table was taken. Drinks from the bar took a long time as it was a happening place and our server tended to be missing for long periods - but the food kept coming out. We worked our way thru both the drink list and the menu. Definitely try Crispy Pork Fried Rice & Hamachi Ponzu! I particularly liked the A5 Wagyu Tartare. And if you're looking for a non-seafood option the Roasted Chicken Breast skewer is a great choice. The drinks were as tasty as they were nice to look at. All in all - a wonderful dining experience.

Food and drink were delicious, view is nice, room is elegant, euro beat music in the background but the service was minimal. There were about three other tables when two of us arrived for our 12:30 lunch reservation. Lots of staff milling around. Water came promptly. Then, drinks order was taken, then, we waited. About ten minutes later drinks came and our waiter was leaving when we said we would like to order. We shared a Samurai salad and it was absolutely perfection. Then, my friend had Tempura Shrimp Maki and I had the Duck confit noodles. My friends Maki came out, and finally she started to eat. She was finished by the time mine came out about 25 minutes later. All the time our waiter wasn't to be seen. No offer of a second drink, no water refill, no assurance any thing was coming and absolutely no sense of urgency. Huge restaurant, not busy at all but the table right next to us was seated when we arrived, they left, another lady came and had a meal and left, and a third party came and sat down. That table had a different server. We had to ask for dessert and tea, When I made the reservation they asked if we were celebrating anything special and I told them it was both of our birthday lunch. No mention was made and no acknowledgment. not even a candle in the dessert we had to find someone to order. Why did they even ask?. The staff here seem more concerned with drifting around looking trendy. We arrived at 12:30 and left at 2:40. And frankly the prices are on the high side. Don't come here if you have any other plans for the day. Do better Lettuce.

I would like to rate this six out of five. It is perfection. The setting, of course great; our server, Carlos, attentive, professional, and intuitive; and the food spectacular. Perfect backdrop to have a productive private business lunch. The Hamachi and lemon, the mushroom rice, the eggplant skewers, rainbow roll and others, and the ginger cookies, were all beyond anything I had ever tasted. If you like Japanese food and great attention to detail, this restaurant is for you.

Very nice dinner looking the bay and the city center. Great food in a nice atmosphere. Please try to have a table close to the window: the view is great.

Miru was overall a good experience, but they are working out their kinks probably as they are brand new. Note: This restaurant is inside the St Regis hotel - not the private residence building entrance which is closer to you if you’re walking down wacker. Go to the front desk / concierge and ask how to get to Miru. They normally will walk you to the elevators - floor 11. It’s a beautiful venue and space. Now on to the good stuff. We saw reservations on OpenTable with wide open availability in mid-June for a Saturday. We decided to book a reservation to check out their new breakfast menu - as we are big LEYE fans. The breakfast menu has a regular spread of American breakfast as well as a few Japanese breakfast items including their Japanese breakfast set. Most people around us ordered the Avocado toast. We ordered the Japanese Tokyo Breakfast Set. This set has a grilled salmon (probably 4 to 5 oz), a bowl of miso soup, a big bowl of ginger rice, a poached egg with Japanese roe (or salad (depends on what they have I suppose as we had poached eggs in our set but our friends who came a week before had a salad but no egg)). It also comes with Japanese pickles / seaweed. We also added on a side of sausage, a side of bacon and two coffees. Personally, I don’t believe their coffee is worth $8. This is one of the steepest coffee prices in the entire city. The coffee was acidic and not the best tasting either even though it is their “St Regis Metropolitan” coffee. Now the ratings: Tokyo Set: 4/5 - The miso soup was very luke warm (not hot at all - border line cold), which was confusing because the ginger rice was steaming hot and was amazing. The salmon was great. The poached egg and roe was decent. If the miso soup wasn’t so darn cold-warm, it would have been a 5/5. Regular Bacon: (not thick cut) - one of the better items on the menu. 4.5/5 Sausage: Fail - their sausage links are a tad bit sweet, mushy, and not very good. Just skip it. (2.5/5) Coffee: (2.5/ 5.0) - $8 steep for a coffee and acidic Service: (3/5) This is where I struggle with. We are at the st Regis which should have amazing service but then again, it’s a new LEYE restaurant - and service standards have been inconsistent due to staff shortages. The waitress was very nice, you could tell she was new, maybe even new to the industry, but water refills for the first 20 mins were non existent (had to flag them down). In the LEYE world, that’s a no-no. They were probably understaffed but she would disappear for 10 to 15 mins at times. Granted, I know we’re not at a Joes or Shaws and it’s also breakfast, I thought the service could have been a bit more refined and consistent - given its 1) Leye 2) the st Regis. The server herself was super lovely and nice but I was slightly irritated when I kept looking at my empty glass of water for 15 mins and was thinking - how could this be at a LEYE restaurant. Views: (5/5) amazing views on the terrace which overlooks the river. There are also a few seats that are half outside / half inside - perfect in case the sun is too hot. I’ll be back soon.

I had dinner at Miru with a couple of friends last August. Despite the fact that we had a reservation, we had to wait outside for around fifteen minutes for the table to be ready. Inside the decoration has nothing to do with the style of the restaurant, the music is quite loud, people talk loudly to drown out the noise of the music... Orders are taken quickly. As a starter I had the skewer of smoked pork belly glazed with apple cider and as a main course the fried rice with crispy pork, egg, garden vegetables. Everything was very good and the other people at the table were also very happy with the quality of the food. On the other hand, as I finish my skewer I am asked if I want another (fairly light quantity). I accept but the second skewer will never be served. I had to ask three times to get cutlery with my dish. During service the plates were literally snatched from our hands while we were still eating. Quite aggressive staff even though not only were we eating quite quickly but the room was not full and no one was waiting. We then had to wait more than 30 minutes to ask for the bill and again, I had to get up and cross the room to speak to a manager because the staff no longer took care of us. I won't share photos of the toilet but I was surprised to see the remains of the previous occupant's digestion clinging to the bowl. At this price it is unacceptable. One of the people at the table who was staying at the St Regis (the hotel of which it is the restaurant) complained to the hotel and got the response: "we can't do anything about it, the restaurant is managed by a external service provider, we do not control what happens there. Also a bad excuse. Too bad because the food is very good but the service made us forget our meal.

Visited Miru for the first time and it did not disappoint. It was a busy Friday so cocktails took some time but once the food started to roll out, everything was perfectly prepared. The miso soup was good, the crispy tuna bites were delicious and the maki were wonderful. Lastly the silky chocolate cake with matcha ice cream was excellent. Shanice’s hospitality made our night that much better. She took great care of us and made us feel at home. We will certainly return and try more of their special offerings. Thank you!!

I was so excited for this reservation. We are loyal Lettuce Entertain You members and read all the hype around this new restaurant. Pros: the view is spectacular. The outside terrace is massive and the restaurant provides blankets on chilly nights. Some of the dishes were great- homemade miso soup, the avocado crispy rice, the salmon and truffle, the bluefin tuna, the crispy shiso, and the black sesame mochi. Cons: the service was awful. We barely saw our waiter though he seemed to always be at the table next to us. He was very attentive to them yet never came to see if dishes came out of the kitchen, if we needed more drinks, etc. There were very few waitstaff anywhere. We had to go inside if we needed anything. The first dishes came out quickly, then there was a definite lag. My husband's entree came out after we were done with all of our other dishes. We had to ask if the dish was coming at all. When we finally got our waiter's attention, he seemed genuinely annoyed that we needed anything. Many of the dishes were tasteless including the hamachi ponzu roll, the triple tuna roll, the wild mushroom sizzling rice, and the coconut mango dessert. This dessert was slopped on our plate- it literally looked like the dish fell and someone stuck it all back on a plate. This restaurant is very expensive. At this level we expected way better food and way better service. Lettuce Entertain You is known for their impeccable service; someone needs to retrain this staff.

I was more surprised than ever at the negative reviews which were completely contrary to the food, drinks and service we enjoyed. There was not one morsel that was not unique, extraordinary and completely contrary to the reality pf what we experienced.

MIRU occupies a gorgeous space on the 11th floor of the new St Regis hotel on E Wacker overlooking the lake. In addition to the large, attractive dining rooms there is outdoor seating with killer views. Food offerings are excellent and innovative sushi style dishes. Service is pretty good. On the negative side, cocktails are expensive at $21 and $22 each, seemed light on alcohol ,and were very small. Wine by the glass pours were not generous but are a wiser choice than cocktails here.

Beautiful venue ruined by loud boom boom boom music. Service is excellent, drinks are small and I agree with another reviewer that the black cod falls short of Nobu's.

if you enjoy overpriced food & drinks, with a pretentious attitude & atmosphere, you should come here. for example, both times we've visited(we came again, thinking the 1st time was a fluke; how dumb am i?) we were greeted @ the check in area by a bunch of sour faced, emotionless girls whose faces screamed of "you're lucky to be here". the Chicago tribune's review of this place was too nice. the food is fine, but with inattentive, inconsistent service, this restaurant is a spurge that clearly isn't worth it. skip the hype-the novelty of a lettuce entertain restaurant with a nice view only goes so far. take your hard earned money elsewhere.

Gorgeous setting. We probably had the best table in the restaurant - on the terrace on the rail. We got very lucky. Food was spectacular. Service was not fantastic. I think our server was new. We heard other servers explaining the menu and providing recommendations. Our drinks came out after our first plates (which was not ideal).

A top notch establishment overlooking the Chicago river. The drinks and appetizers are simply delicious. Go there during Happy Hour!

Celebrated Mother's Day with a party of 11. Due to the size of our party, we booked roughly 6 weeks in advance by calling the restaurant directly to secure a 10 AM accommodation. The service and menu assortment were remarkable. The sushi and seafood options were high quality. The children in our party also had plenty of options, even for the most finicky of eaters. Pricing was very reasonable considering the diverse menu. Fortunately, Miru also provides reduced pricing for children, making this a stellar, family-friendly experience for those looking to enjoy a first-rate meal without sacrificing quality. The only downside was that we were partially seated in a booth, with only three single chairs on one side of a lengthy table. This made navigating to the buffet very complicated for the other seven people. It was a chillier day, and patio seating was unavailable, but we could access an adjacent patio near the elevator lobby to take a scenic family photo.

I was compelled to write because I was just angry at the level of service with the waiter at the bar. I orderded the eggplant skewer on the lunch menu although I did hesitate because when I asked the waiter what the "schimi" was, he said, "it's just eggplant." Well, when I got the order the thick paste of the sauce on there was spicy and super thick and salty. It was not "just eggplant" at all. In addition, it was cold. I forced myself to eat it as I was hungy and truly needed to eat but not once did the waiter even ask me how it was. The restaurant was not busy as it was a Monday so for the level of service that the St. Regis is supposed to be, I was extremely disappointed. Even when I asked for the bill the waiter didn't ask if I liked my lunch. I wanted to coach him on how he might answer to another customer asking the same question about the sauce but I guess he didn't care. Also, the music was ridiculously loud and I see that others thought so, too. I was compelled to write because spending over $50 for lunch (for one person) in Chicago should be a decent experience, not a highly disappointing one. There are way too many great restaurants in the city to waste over $50 on poor service! This was my second time here and I will never go there again.

I made a reservation for a table on the terrace over a month in advance for a birthday dinner. We lucked out because it was a gorgeous summer night. The views are truly stunning, both at sunset and as the lights come on in the surrounding buildings and at Navy Pier. It's breezy up there with temps maybe 10 degrees cooler than at street level, so it's wise to bring a jacket or wrap. The restaurant has a limited number of fleece throws you can use to wrap up in if needed. Early reviews of Miru suggested that service wasn't up to snuff but we found it to be cordial and polished. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu, helpful in choosing dishes and charming. Plates and cutlery were replaced several times, water glasses were kept filled, food was coursed out appropriately. My only quibble is that since dishes are meant to be shared, they should have brought an implement to split our miso black cod; chopsticks were not up to the task but when requested, we got knives and forks. The food was delicious. We shared everything. The spinach ohitashi was surprisingly good in a zing-y thin mayonnaise (?) based sauce. We had lobster spring rolls (6 finger-sized ones to an order with lettuce leaves in which to wrap them) and a rice vinegar-based dipping sauce. The 3 nigiri sushi we shared (2 to an order) were pristine and with a good ratio of fish to rice. The mushroom sizzling rice came in a clay bowl, hot to the table and was delicious with the aforementioned miso black cod. There were 2 little dollops of a lime-flavored sauce for the cod which were delicious but hard to scoop up with chopsticks. Dessert was a calamansi creme brûlée, yummy. With one cocktail, dinner came to $220 with tax but before tip. There's a 3% surcharge added to the bill. Considering that Miru is in a 5-star hotel and that you are paying for the view, this seemed entirely reasonable. I did notice that the wine list had some pretty pricy offerings. We had a lovely time and left happy, if a bit chilled.

Large space with lots of windows with views of the city/lake. Hosts & server very friendly/appreciative, the sommelier (assuming that’s who the young blonde female was) extremely ungracious, almost hostile (she seemed angry). There were some lags in the service. Asian inspired food, with some excellent dishes; grilled avocado, shrimp fried rice, chocolate cake. The broccoli was flavorful, but slightly underdone; black cod a bit bland, eggplant uninspired, coconut cake would’ve been nicer with a bigger piece of cake, and just the frozen mango accompaniment. By glass Champagnes are overpriced.

Amazing view of Lake Michigan and Chicago river, delicious sushi, good service. Recommend sitting outside even in hot summer days as the restaurant is on high floor so nice breeze from lake.

We had high hopes for this elegant restaurant high in the St Regis hotel on Chicago's Riverwalk. TL,DR: good food, bad service, outrageous prices. We were worried from the moment we stepped in, as the pounding bass of EDM dance music was the dominant sound, to the point where we had to shout to be heard by the front staff. But having a reservation, we were seated quickly. The menu is mostly sushi or sushi-adjacent, with a couple of fusion dishes thrown in. More about the food later. The service was initially both fawning and insistent -- rather than order a course at a time (as one often does in sushi places), the waiter insisted we order all at once and "he would take care of the pacing". Well, this was a giant FAIL. He mostly disappeared, and dishes started appearing more or less randomly, at first too soon and then (when we commented) hardly at all. The side dish we order to start came at the end of the meal. Wine refills were wholly disconnected from when dishes arrived, and you couldn't call anything a "course" -- the nigiri appeared one plate at a time versus as a group, and one dish never arrived at all. Requests for tamari (gluten-free soy sauce) went unanswered for ~ 20 minutes. The service consists of the nominal waiters, various food-runners who know nothing and can do nothing, and young women in sneakers whose function I never learned. Everyone has a Secret-Service style earpiece which in no way makes anything more efficient. No coatroom -- nearly December in Chicago and your coat goes on the back of your chair. So, in summary: thumping bassline, bad but inconsistent service, super-high prices, wine list marked-up over the moon. But also, nice views, and the food, when it came, was mostly good and occasionally excellent. Probably intended mostly for the see-and-be-seen crowd, some several decades younger than ourselves. With tip, nearly four Benjamins for two. A travesty really, it would be easy for them to do better, but that's not what they're aiming for.

My solo brunch date at Miru could not have been better (well, minus one tiny omission). On the 11th floor of the striking St. Regis hotel, I recommend requesting a table by the floor-to-ceiling windows to marvel at the gorgeous river and skyline views. The staff working during brunch time were fantastic, all super attentive and eager to tend to my needs. My pancakes were fluffy and divine, albeit they accidentally left out the blueberries, but I had asked to omit something else too, so the kitchen likely just got mixed up. No biggie! For the portion and quality, I deemed there to be exceptional value for a luxury hotel restaurant, and in the future I will certainly come back.

If you’re looking for an unforgettable dinner in Chicago- one that hits every single note from service to scenery to sushi that melts in your mouth, get yourself to Miru. Perched on the 11th floor of the St. Regis, this place has one of the most jaw-dropping outdoor patios in the city. Panoramic views of the lake and Navy Pier that make you feel like you're floating. You could bring out microwave ramen on that terrace and I'd still be impressed. Luckily, the food more than matches the view. From the moment we sat down, the service was flawless. Warm, attentive, and genuinely excited about the menu without being overbearing. You can tell the staff here cares about creating a top-tier experience. Now for the food: The hamachi was bright, buttery, and clean- the kind of dish that makes you slow down and savor each bite. The spicy king crab roll is a knockout- rich, perfectly balanced, and addictively spicy without being over the top. But the pork belly? Unreal. Crispy on the outside, fall-apart tender on the inside, and glazed with just enough sweetness to keep you coming back for more.

I'll be the first to admit I reserved a breakfast spot at this Japanese restaurant in the newish St. Regis Hotel primarily for the view. I was not a hotel guest, so I was also interested in seeing this newish hotel, under construction when I last visited Chicago, designed by renowned architect Jeanne Gang, who also designed the stunning Aqua building nearby. Miru is on the hotel's 11th floor. It's a large restaurant with an equally large terrace, where surely tables are in the most demand in good weather. The hotel's St. Regis Terrace is also on this level, also with killer river views. For breakfast, the menu is pretty much American, aside from a Tokyo Breakfast set. I ordered The American breakfast---eggs, a protein (I chose ham), hash browns and toast. It also came with a simple seemingly undressed salad. The breakfast was prepared well and nicely presented. There was only a single slice of toast. Had I known I would have ordered a bagel. The cold-pressed juice blend I ordered called Eternal Life was also very good. Service was decent, perhaps a bit scarce since there were very few guests at 7 am. Given that the St. Regis is a luxury brand, the meal also was not inexpensive. But they did allow me access not only to the Miru Terrace, but the St. Regis Terrace as well, and the views from both are stunning ( and pretty similar).
My new favorite Chicago restaurant
Excellent first time at Miru, and I’ll definitely be back again. The vibe is cool, the staff are warm, and the food is delicious as well as imaginative/exciting. Three of us tried a bunch of things and loved everything. Spicy tuna roll and Rainbow roll were the best I’ve ever had, anywhere. Fresh, manageable sizes and next level tastes and textures. The hamachi and lemon was a staff recommendation and omg, 10/10. The shrimp fried rice was also a standout. Don’t skip dessert, either. The Japanese whisky selection is extensive, too.
