Trendy and True to the South

By RodneyR2 |

For months I’ve had a hankering for soul food, just like mama use to make in Florida. Expect everything to be a bit heavy on salt – which is a southern tradition. The blackened Catfish was delicious; moist and flavorful. The Collard Greens are packed with shredded pork. Bit of a surprise. The Beans and rice were spicy. The Corn Bread had a fruit in it. I forgot to ask the waiter what it was. Perhaps Apricot. And finally the Banana Pudding was something to remember. Fantastic meal. Appreciated. I will return!

Smoked Ribs Smoked Ribs Smoked Ribs. oh mannnnn

By harry l |

We rolled in on Friday night a few minutes after happy hour ended but before the dinner rush. We were seated as soon as we walked in and they cleared a table. Music not our liking, just noisy as hell. But..... Smoked Ribs with black eyed peas, and cole slaw. Yeah! Jumablaya and cornbread. Yeah. Caesar saiad with blackened fish. Yeah. That have a full bar if that is what you want. I bought a tee shirt. The ribs were KILLLERRRRRRRRR. oh man. Service as personable and good. Be prepared to sign in for a seat when busy.

Southern Chicken in the PNW

By tmeadows1227 |

Okay I'm not usually a huge fried chicken person but this chicken was SO GOOD. The only thing we got that we weren't crazy about was the cornbread, but the mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, etc was all delicious. We ordered on DoorDash so I can't speak for the service or ambiance of the restaurant but the food is worth it!

Very interesting place

By PacificNorthwestRae |

Very different went with family, they all loved it,it just wasn't my cup of tea, food is very southern heavy food, mine did have good flavor.did not like that they add their own tips.

Unexpectedly AWESOME

By YetiTumbler |

Wow, where to even start here. We stopped in for a late Saturday breakfast and left totally Wow-ed. Great vibe, attentive staff, prompt service and good food - Miss Delta has it all. We ordered the chicken/waffle, cheese grits, brisket ends, collard greens & mac/cheese. All were excellent. I especially enjoyed the collard greens (with pork) and will return just to eat more. The fried chicken was a big hit with the man - crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. We did not have enough room to try the (what looks like) homemade biscuits nor the corn bread ...but we will be back.

Delicious with friendly service

By Bill D |

My wife and I had a very enjoyable early week-day dinner here. Ask to be seated next to the front windows for great people watching in this eclectic neighborhood. The best part though was the southern style food. We shared the brisket plate and the "trashy" mac and cheese which had a creole sauce folded in. Delicious. Our server Johnny, a native of Portland was very personable and helpful. Would have gone again if time permitted. Highly recommended.

Best Cajun in Portland

By Todd M |

Don't go if you are in a hurry! All scratch made. Everything is delicious, but the fried chicken is amazing.

Great food but beware of the service

By Kirsten DJ |

We went there for a family night out during our visit in Portland. The food was very delicious and authentic but I cannot get over it how rude the servers are. I would never allow my staff to treat their customers with such little respect. No recommendations - no smile- no greeting - no enthusiasm. No customer service skills. The waitress dropped silverware on the floor when she brought the food to the table but didn't replace it. My daughter had to look for a booster seat in he restaurant. It was not even offered. No chalk was offered for the kids to draw in the table. My husband asked for peach cobbler to go - the waitress declined and rolled her eyes when she turned around. We asked for to go boxes and got only 3 instead of 5. No paper bags.. We had to go up to her and ask. I can definitely see why this place is not packed with customers. There is definitely a problem with the front end. My advise to the management: either retrain your waiters or fire them.

Brunch

By carlamyrielchan |

We had hit a few brunch places during our stay in Portland and our friend of ours recommended trying out the restaurants located in Mississippi. Miss Delta honestly was not my first choice but because the wait at my first choice was too long and it was a cold & gloomy Sunday morning, my husband and I decided we couldn't wait so decided to head across the street to Miss Delta. They had just opened when we arrived so were seated immediately. They have a pretty decent variety on their menu. I ordered their griddle cakes while hubby had one of their combo breakfasts which consisted of potatoes, eggs, a biscuit and pork brisket. One thing I have to comment on is that our food didn't arrive at the same time. The griddle cakes came first and about almost 10 minutes after did they serve my husband's order. Now, I just don't think that's acceptable especially when it's just a table for two. Food was okay though. The stars were the potatoes that were fried and really well seasoned and the pork brisket, which according to my husband was tender and tasty. The biscuit, I thought, had way too much butter and when I asked for jam in an effort to counter the saltiness the server said they didn't have any. I find that weird for a place that offers breakfast/brunch. How can you not have jam? So overall was really not blown away here.

Aw; Grandma is back at the cookstove.

Hush puppies - oh, sugar. Cornbread - oh, honey. Cheesy grits - oh, sweetie. Mashed taters and gravy - oh, darlin’. Black-eyed peas and okra - oh, yes, dearie...all delicious and totally comforting. Way, way too much for one person and I haven’t gotten to the main courses yet: fried chicken, chicken-fried steak, blackened catfish, meatloaf, mac and cheese; you name it and Miss Delta will serve it up. Of course the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is so homey that you can almost hear the screen door slam as grandpa heads out to milk the cow. One of those “must visit” places on Mississippi. Fun and deelish.

Waffle perfection.

By SassyAdventures |

I enjoyed the casual but lively environment. The chicken and waffles is THE dish to enjoy. The perfectly seasoned and crispy chicken with that hint of sweet and spice served over a fluffy, toasty waffle will make you smile. Brunch, lunch or even dinner you most try it!

Great southern cooking

By David L |

I had the blackened catfish and my son had the brisket. Both were delicious as were the "sides". Very satisfied!

Awesome cookin, but service could use improvement

By BallardNAILS |

I visited Portland and had to return to Miss Delta for the fried okra and chicken & waffles. The food and drinks were super yummy, but the waitstaff was incredibly inattentive, which was surprising because it wasn't that busy. Not a disappointing trip to Delta because of the food/drinks, but service was not what I remembered. If you can kill a few hours, then give it a try.

Chicken and waffles and cocktails

By Grit D |

My kid and I came here and there was no wait on a Thursday evening which kind of surprised me given the on point service, welcome and fragrant food smells. That changed quickly and it filled up. Wicked pecan butter with the waffle, strong drinks and commiseration from the server on what a day it had been. The food and drinks salved the soul and I would go back

Soul food Sunday

By bonnie2925 |

Miss Delta has a soulful menu. I ordered the burnt bbq brisket tips, black eyed peas and rice, meatless collard greens, cornbread and the local beer. The brisket tips were delicious, the black eyed peas and rice had a good flavor; however the cornbread was dry, and the collard greens had little flavor. I would definitely recommend the bbq. My friends had the catfish and they loved it.

food would be ok in bakken oil field in n. dakota, but not here

By prefecal |

Lunched wednesday on fried chicken and gumbo. chicken was so-so, mashed potato was very heavy. most memorable was mushroom and sausage gravy. collards could have been cooked another hour along with more liquor. hot sauces at tableside were so-so. gumbo was so over-loaded with big chicken, large andouille sausage, and rice soaked up all the juice that it was not enjoyable to eat after 4 bites. it needed more spice and file. food took forever to show up with only one table ahead of us. killed time by reading tiny notes stuck in brick wall crevice. bill came to $42.

Fun place, great food & drinks!

By TravelingDad_PTFC |

Came here with family after a day on the mountain & we were hungry! This place does not disappoint. We started with the fried okra appetizer for the table & it was great! Server recommended putting some malt vinegar on them & it was good. I used some of their hot sauce as well & it added some great flavor as well as heat. I ordered the brisket burnt ends & they were very tasty. Couldn’t even finish my two sides of Mac & cheese and red beans and rice. Wife & daughter each ordered different Mac & cheeses, one with tomato & okra and one with chicken & pesto. Both were so huge they couldn’t even eat half of it. Strong drinks, super friendly staff & great food. What else could anyone ask for? The only bummer was that chicken & waffles is only available on the happy hour menu. Worth a stop when in the Mississippi district for sure!

Yum to the last lil' bite

By bfloating |

Have eaten here four time now and it just keeps getting better and better. The service is perfect, the atmosphere is Bourbon Street, NOLA, and the food is just absolutely delicious as can be. Gotta try their meatloaf ! HUGE two slab portions for @$12.. Jambalaya is as good as any joint in Louisiana dreamed of and the fritters are the cat's meow.

Suprised

By sergeik |

Not sure how my wife found this place, but it was good. Between the red beans and rice w/sausage, cornbread and/or biscuit as well as jambalaya - good lunch. Only complaint was that there was a bit too much grease/fat in the sauce. Otherwise great taste and good service.

Down Home Cooking

By Steve D |

What can I say - HUSHPUPPIES - and big'uns at that Not upscale - not trendy - Down Home. Nothing fancy about the place - but the service was excellent - the food was "stuff yourself until you're uncomfortable" then take the remainder home. I had the chicken fried steak (yeah for dinner) - it wasn't some pre-made / boxed thing - it was fresh, tender, and home made crispy breading. Tasty gravy. Beans for a side (just ok) and coleslaw (the best I've had other than mama used to make). Friend had Trashy Mac - Mac & Cheese with one of the added flavors (gumbo, creole sauce stewed tomatoes & okra, chicken pesto or meatloaf) - friend had the meatloaf. He could only finish half - but sure as heck wasn't going to waste it (box please). Fun - noisy - delicious (and a full bar) and ate for half of what we expected to pay for dinner in Portland

Wanted something sweet ...

By Bryan H |

The menu said they had peach cobbler. It sounded so good, but it was just O.K. We got it in April, so maybe that was part of the problem. Had fond memories of eating peach cobbler as a kid, but this didn't even touch my mother's version. Service was friendly, but it took a while to get the cobbler. While we were there, they played 80's music. It wasn't crowded at all, maybe one other table and a couple people at the bar.

Fried Okra. heck. yes.

By Jenn H |

I love this place! I love the hush puppies, I love the Outlaw cocktail, I love, love, love that they offer fried Okra; but most of all, I LOVE their homemade meatloaf with mushroom gravy mashed potatoes!!! That is the true reason to come to this place. Meatloaf. BF and I end up here several times a month for a meatloaf and cocktail date night. There can be a wait on weekend nights but week nights are wide open and the best time to go. Parking can be a pain but you're on Mississippi, what do you expect. Walk down to The Meadow to kill some time. Chocolate, salt, bitters, and flowers, doesn't get much more "Portland" than that.

Perfect Place for Fat Tuesday

By greeneyedqtpi |

My husband and I stopped here for dinner while waiting for the local Mardi Gras parade to start. We started with the mac and cheese, but added the pesto and chicken, which was above and beyond our expectations. He had a crawfish po boy and I had the brisket sandwich. His crawfish were crispy and well seasoned, my brisket was moist and bbq sauce was just sloppy enough. The portion size and price make this place a great value. We had a slice of king cake for dessert, and it was better than any we had while living on the gulf coast.

Disappointing meal at Miss Delta's

By Nelson K |

I realize that, after eating at Franklin Barbeque in Austin, TX earlier in the month, that it was a big ask to expect a great barbecue meal in Portland the same month. However, I don't believe it was too much to ask for a decent meal. I ordered an appetizer of hush puppies for our family, as we had eaten these in Tennessee a couple of years ago and really enjoyed them. These, however, were raw in the middle as the picture shows. I normally don't say too much when served poor food, but this was too much. The server indicated that they had a new line cook, but goodness! To the restaurant's credit, they did comp that appetizer, which is why I am giving 2 stars instead of one. I had the burnt ends sandwich, which was passable but certainly not worth going back for. There are too many restaurant choices in this Mississippi St. neighborhood for me to want to go back here on a future visit.

Best Fried Chicken and Best Service

By Pamela C |

Service can make or break it for us. We enjoyed our waiter who chatted with us and helped us pick out a great menu. We tasted green with pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, and Cheer Wine! The fried chicken was greaseless and crunchy. I had mine on top of Caesar salad. Others had gravy and mashed potatoes and greens. We really enjoyed the meal and the visit and the waiters. Going back soon.

Great Southern Food

By Matthew |

The place had a somewhat rustic aesthetic, and came across as rather charming. The service was very friendly, and our food came quickly. The macaroni and cheese with pesto is some of the best I've ever had. It was quite heavy, so what I couldn't finish I had packed in a box. I ate it for dinner the next day and it was again some of the best pasta I've ever had. We also ordered some lemonade, which was wonderfully fresh, and a single order was easily enough for the two of us.

Cute place with excellent service

By Sasha |

I was having a horrible day when I stumbled into Miss. Delta. The atmosphere was warm and very inviting. The waiter made me feel like I was having lunch in his living room. Excellent service and my chicken and waffles was absolutely delicious. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family when visiting Portland. I was visiting from Chicago and we could use a Miss Delta in Chicago.

OMG THE FOOD

By Eileen M |

Visiting family in Portland, my sister-in-law suggested Miss Delta. The place decor was in the 30s feel which was interesting and nice. The waiter was moving to whole time, we was good, fast and organized. Now the food omg it was delicious looked just as good. The amount was perfect. We all ordered something different so we could have a taste of each other's. The chicken fried steak was the best I have ever had, the meatloaf and two sides were great mash potatoes and Mac and cheese were tasty favored really nice. The jambalaya and rice with greens a little spicy for me, but my husband loves hot not a drop left. We wanted to get take out for the flight, but ran out of time. Big bummer. Will hit Miss Delta next time in Portland.

Southern Cooking in the Northwest

By Marianne F |

Service was quick and sweet. Had the fried chicken, mac n cheese, greens and hush puppies. Companion had pulled pork. I have to say that the crust on the chicken was delicious! Crispy, with a lot of flavor. Mac n cheese was everything it's supposed to be. Creamy and tangy. My only complaint was that there was no option for ordering an extra piece of chicken. I favor dark meat and the drumstick and thigh didn't have much meat, but for $14 well worth it. Would have liked a little more meat, though.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm good!

By Mark P |

My girlfriend and I met some friends there. The four of us ordered friend okra, corn fritters, 2 Po'boys, and 2 plates of jambalaya. The food was amazing, and the service was excellent as well. I will meet you there!

Best of the South, in Portland

By R Todd J |

Just had an extraordinary dining experience at Miss Delta on 3/17/13. As with ALL GOOD Portland restaurants, there's a wait to get in. 30-ish minutes wasn't extreme NOR is that a restaurant issue. (I just wanted to let you know). I had veggie biscuits and gravy (amazing), with a Bloody Mary (unbelievably good), with corn/black bean fritters & hush puppies (oh dear Lord, fantastic). Just to be clear, I shared the apps with others :) If I had 1 complaint, I'd say that their setup is a bit odd. The servers are tasked with too many responsibilities, like making their own drinks, that contributed to the time we spent in the restaurant waiting on our food. Make no mistake, it WAS worth the wait and Sunday brunch is supposed to be leisurley, but the poor servers were running about like they were losing their minds. It's a small restaurant, so maybe too many servers would be problematic as well? Regardless, I'm going back. I'm from the South and I know good Southern food. Incidentally, my partner had the chicken and waffles which, apparently, were over the top delicious. Long story, even longer, my dining experience there was 9.5 out of 10.

Fun place, great food & drinks!

By TravelingDad_PTFC |

Came here with friends for dinner early on a Saturday night! Pleased to find out it was still happy hour! From 4-6. The girls each ordered a "Farmer's Daughter" which looked as nice as they tasted! Like a sour watermelon candy. The guys ordered Melvin IPA's. Always a good choice. We started with the fried okra appetizer for the table & it was great! Served with spicy mayo. Yum! We each ordered something different for our entree, but all were very pleased! My date had the trashy mac with stewed tomatoes & okra & I had the chicken & waffle. Served with syrup & an amazing praline butter. Our friends had a brisket sandwich & a shrimp po boy & neither could finish theirs because they were so big, but so delicious! Worth a stop when in the Mississippi district for sure!

Great before-Better now

By BobBarnett |

Ate there last year-just amazing. Been looking forward to returning on our annual trip from the OC. Turns out it was sold. Not usually a good sign. Except the new owner installed a new smoker, the food is beyond fabulous, very reasonable $, and the service is excellent considering the place was a madhouse on a Friday night. The ribs and brisket PERFECT.And I had hand surgery last week and really wanted to hold those ribs, so the owner brought me vinyl gloves to the table. Beat that!

Almost like being in the South

By PDXwanderingnow |

Any place north of the Mason-Dixon line that makes good fried okra, fried pickles and fried oyster po boys will have me as a returning customer. Fun decor, decent drink menu and consistently good service are appreciated bonuses that make the Miss Delta experience all the more enjoyable.

Puts the soul in soul food

Great little place on the newly revitalize Mississippi AVE . The quality of the food was superb , and the staff was very helpful and friendly . Everything is home made with quality ingredients and reasonably priced .

Smokey goodness

By TheDude2403 |

My party of three had meals that consisted of burnt ends, meatloaf and bbq pork spareribs. All three meals came off with a Smokey goodness that I could blow a smoke ring over your head. The sides we chose were Mac and cheese, collard greens, coleslaw.

Best of brunch

By BlackAngus |

The food and the flavors were well worth the wait. It's tiny little spot so would advice against big groups. The food made you feel like you really were in Mississippi even without even having been there. one entree made for three meals. If your looking for a lazy Sunday stuff yourself kind of brunch, this is your spot

Food is Excellent, but the service is flaky.

By Milestogo007 |

I came here for brunch. I don't get out to Mississippi Avenue to often but I had the opportunity so I made the most of it. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere. It was practically empty when I came in. About six people besides me. The waitress takes my order and I tell her I want the chicken fried chicken and a Arnold Palmer to drink. She takes my order and within a few minutes she comes back with an item that turns out to be a chicken fried steak. I make mention of this and she tells me I will get a discount, she then returns and says the meal is free of charge for the mistake. Now she still hasn't brought out the Arnold Palmer but eventually she figures it out and brings it when the meal is halfway consumed. The chicken fried steak was excellent, I imagine the chicken fried chicken is excellent also. The potatoes served with it were very well prepared. The Arnold Palmer was the best I have had. It was nice of the chef owner to comp the meal but I ended up paying anyway because I was satisfied with the food, although I did not order the chicken fried steak. Hopefully his waitress will learn to focus on the orders. Had the place been busier it could have been a real problem. There is nothing wrong with the food at all. I would recommend eating here and I would give it another try just so I could take a shot at that chicken fried chicken.

Good home cooking

By carlysue22 |

My friend and I wandered in for brunch and it was so good! The biscuits are dense and big and the whipped butter can't be beat! The cheesy grits were everything they should be, delicious! The atmosphere is relaxed and homey. Thwy even have chalk for the kids to draw on the tables! I would definitely recommend it!

Hard to leave without a "to-go box'

By Gtex78 |

My wife had eaten here on an earlier trip. She insisted that I try it. This is gen-u-ine Southern food. I had the fried okra appetizer -- it was huge! (FYI I never miss the opportunity to eat fried okra.) For my main course i tried the Jambalaya -- large and tasty. I wasn't in a beer mood so I had a flavored lemonade.. It hit the spot! However there are plenty of good beers available if you want. Portland had temperatures in the nineties during our visit. Miss Delta, like many places in Portland, is not air-conditioned. However, by some magic, the restaurant was not unbearable even with the front door closed. The portions at Miss Delta are on the large side. Unless you choose to make a serious effort to eat you are quite likely to be taking home food in a "to-go box." This is definitely a place I would consider on my next visit to Portland.

Awesome, low key, soul food in a hipster neighborhood

By raftgirlallie |

I stumbled across the Miss Delta while navigating the Mississippi District in NE Portland three years ago. It is easily my favorite restaurant in PDX. The food is awesome - the best collard greens and corn fritters ever. The dirty mac 'n cheese = total comfort food. The well drinks are interesting - definitely try a Farmer's Daughter (cucumber infused vodka and cranberry) on a hot summer day. The atmosphere is comfortable and layed back - the exposed brick walls, old timey bar, and psuedo voodoo/New Orleans religious icon decorations all add to this restaurant's charm.

Love the hush puppies!!!

By Renee A |

I absolutely love Miss Delta. I must love it because I hate going to the Mississippi area since gentrification. In fact, I only went when I have to go to the Rebuilding Center. Then I would cross the street and get the best steak quesadilla fever for me and a burrito for my husband to go from the Spicy Spoon. ever have to go to since gentrification. My daughter works in the area and she discovered Miss Delta. It is very small but comfy. The food is wonderful. I actually cannot tell you my favorite item because the greens, mac and cheese dishes, fried catfish, fried chicken and (oh my gosh) the hush puppies are all to die for, I have gone 4 times in the past 3 months and would go much more often it was not on Mississippi

Mixed results

By MsMacPortlandOR |

I have been here a couple of times before and loved the jambalaya. Went again last night with my daughter and ordered the crawfish etouffe while my daughter ordered the ribs with a side of mashed potatoes and mac & cheese. For drinks, the freshly made lemonade was lovely---a drink well worth the calories---and my Farmers Daughter with cucumber-infused vodka hit the spot by being refreshing and not too sweet. The ribs were excellent with lots of meat and lathered with a tasty sauce. She declared the mashed potatoes and mac & cheese to be among the best. Alas, I was disappointed in my etouffe. It was soupy, and much of the soup was melted grease. I will stick with the jambalaya. Service was slow, but the menu warns that it will be. I found the "music" to be too loud and not to my taste, so basically, I was uncomfortable with the background noise. My solution for the future might be to order the jambalaya to go. Not sure.

Yum!

By CitygalNY2OR |

The chicken and waffles were out of control, definitely a dish you must share because of its giant size! Biscuits and gravy to die for… Gumbo was delicious too! Great staff, fun vibe!

Go for it

This place is amazing ...if u like southern food ...it was thee best ever ...my husband is from Memphis ...he said its like being at home..We will go back often.

Amazing BBQ food

By Marty M |

We stopped in here by chance on a Sunday evening and went away feeling lucky about our choices. We ordered the Miss Delta Meats plate between the two of us and added the andouille sausage. We loved every bite of it. We had cornbread and slaw for the sides. Can't tell you what my favorite of the meats were, as they were all so tasty. Really enjoyed our dinner there, and we will definitely make it back that way again.

Great BBQ

By 464merlot |

Nice atmosphere, great friendly fast service. We had BBQ pork sandwich and it was NOT smothered in sauce so you could actually taste the lovely smoky meat! Coleslaw was more vinegary than mayo type which we prefer. House made andouille was juicy with crispy casing— excellent. Also loved the cheesy grits. Restaurant was recommended by a local and it was well worth it.

Best dang Cajun cooking in Portland

By Gordon R |

I usually do not eat Cajun food. I love spicy and like meat, but the mix of spices and the way the food is usually cooked just does not set will with me. I will say the Miss Delta changed my mind. The Jambalya is outstanding and in large portions. Their fritters are as good at they get. Miss Delta does a great job of pulling out a little different version of Cajun that I've had. Gumbo with all the "fixinis" and luscious cornbread on the side to sop up all that lovely sauce. A real dinner treat is the Shrimp Creole in a finely spiced tomato sauce over rice is a real culinary experience.. Great prices, great portions, great drinks and great service. I would recommend this place to anyone coming to PDX or living here. It is worth the travel over to the Mississippi neighborhood. Take some time and look them up. The only reservation I would have is parking. The area is so popular that you may need to walk a few blocks. Well worth the visit. G

Delicious

By Lostelement |

The menu here made me want to order it all! We got there when we could have had breakfast or lunch & both chose lunch. We started with fried okra & burnt ends. My wife had blackened chicken po-boy & the chicken was good & spicy & well portioned. I had the blackened catfish. We are planning to go back for breakfast because we both had a hard time ordering.

Great comfort food

By TheDude2403 |

My wife and I shared the southern sampler and the spare ribs were wonderful. The entire plate was delicious and we were both full. The portions are very generous and the prices are right.

?? Another Trendy Spot

By J Kimberly W |

Miss Delta had high recommendations, so me and my Happy Hour Girls had to try it. This is a tough critique because this is the type of food I can not only cook myself, but I can throw it down. The menu is a southern/creole blend. I have had better, I can cook it better so to say I left happy would be an untruth. We order lots of dishes and sample them all; hush puppies were doughy, with a little cornmeal in it...not good at all; the ribs...well, no different than any other commercial ribs... mediocre; the crawfish etouffee, which the chef was kind enough to send a small sampler to our table before we order a large dish, it wasn't what it should have been, too tomatoey; the jambalaya...NO-NO-NO!; the sweet potato yam fries were delicious, they came with a creole honey mustard dipping sauce that was tasty. Okay, moving on to the cocktails...not that great, and very, very weak. The servers were wonderful, very attentive, helpful and were ready to answer all of our questions...love that! My girls said they would return, I think I would pass, but I am bias, I can make all this food myself and it slamm'in. You try it and make your own decision, they do deserve that at least. Cheers!

Good but kind of Greasy

By Michael F |

We called ahead and lucky we did because they randomly were closing a half hour earlier than normal. We had driven a bout a half hour to get there so we just made it. We ordered Deep Fried Okra, cornbread, Chicken Fried Steak and Fried Chicken. Sides were Greens, mac n cheese, red beans and rice and mashed potatoes I get comfort food, but EVERYTHING was rich and filled with either deep fat oil or butter. There were pools of grease in the bottom of our baskets and also when reheating the food, pools of oil butter and grease again. The Chicken fried steak was overdone and tasted like a deep fried sandal. Okra was Perfect and the best deep fried okra I have ever had, actually pretty light. Cornbread nothing to write home about although some may like it. Kind of dense and cakey. Greens were perfect as were the red beans and rice. Stand alone the mashed potatoes were awesome but with all the butter in them added to everything else just added to comfort overload. Mac n Cheese too much butter and oil not enough milk and cheese. Server was attentive with water and drinks and Portlandy kind of pleasant. Someone came in partway through our meal and made their own drink behind the bar and then sat down to drink it. Manager Maybe?

YUM!

By Kimberley42 |

Do you like Southern food and drinks? You can''t beat Miss Delta! Hearty, spicy food, that will stick to your bones. Be sure to try their Bloody Mary (Miss Delta Mary). They make their own mix and garnish it with tasty pickled treats.

OMFG...yum

By bridget |

Whenever I visit my mom in Portland, we go here. It's our place. It's heaven. Food is life and Miss Delta is the provider. All hail the food and cocktails. Incredible fried pickles, yes. Gourmet Mac n cheese with mouth-watering add ins. Their banana pudding, the okra, and THE CORNBREAD with honey butter.

We visited Miss Delta with our son and granddaughter. Service and were both very good. I had the burnt ends , my wife had the pulled pork and our son had the chicken po-boy. Everyone enjoyed their meals and my granddaughter love the Mac n cheese.

Real southern cooking!

Best biscuits&gravy I've had in years!!! Yummy BBQ. Fabulous brunch menu - but be prepared to wait of course.

Chicken and Waffles....need I say more?

By AndresJumanji |

Everything on the menu sounds amazing but having heard about Miss Delta on my first trip to Portland and just now (2 years later) being able to make it for breakfast made Chicken & Waffles the only choice. The fried chicken was perfectly breaded and fried, the waffles were delicious and they even have a Miss Delta hot sauce that was recommended by our server specifically for the chicken and waffles. It's sweet with a small kick at the end. Small kick so even non hot sauce lovers will enjoy it.

The soul of Mississippi is in every bite at Miss Delta - Soul Food Restaurant

By Sidney C |

A very relaxed atmosphere. The décor is Southern Country meets Shabby Chic. They serve their delicious drinks in Masson jars. The food is so good, I have been back for more several times. the food is down home and sophisticated at the same time. You really must try the Corn Fritters with a tasty spread made from back eyed peas. I also love the Greens, Brisket Sandwich or Chicken Fried Steak. If you're a foodie like me, you got to try Miss Delta. This is food like my Great Grandma cooked for me.

Great atmosphere, cocktails, and food.

By Alexandra M |

We started with bourbon house cocktails which went down so smoothly. We had the meatloaf with mac and cheese and fried okra and the jambalaya. The meatloaf blew us away as well as the fried okra. Our server was so friendly, and he recommended more places to try in Portland. The classic rock playing in the background set the tone for the meal.

Some decent sides and OK BBQ

By eatintheclaw |

Tried this place recently. The place is pretty noisy with music and talk so if your looking for a quiet place keep looking. I ordered the burnt ends and they didn't appear to be burnt ends only sliced pork meat with sauce. A bit on the dry side actually. The side o tried were really good but its the meat I am looking for in a BBQ joint. My wife had the catfish and it seemed a bit mushy so she didn't eat much of it.

Just OK

By Ed S |

Ate here only once - dinner. The food (meatloaf) was OK. I found it very heavy and a bit tasteless. The service was good. The ambience of the restaurant was nice - nothing special but pleasant although a bit noisey. The price was a bit on the high side for what I got. Would I eat here again - I'm not sure.

Big enough to share and not feel short changed

By Haralee |

Brunch was fantastic. We got one of the stacks and shared it and there was plenty! The biscuit was yummy, the gravy, the bacon, the meat, the chicken, to die for! Service was friendly and quick. Restroom clean, a great value for the quality of the food.

Good Food for the soul

Very good food and staff was very friendly. We originally went for Father’s Day brunch and now it’s a regular pit stop. We can’t say enough about the place.

Sothern food done right...

By 503Jetsetter |

Stopped in this cool little spot the other night because I was craving some soul food. Note - growing up on southern cooking, I am SUPER picky about my southern dishes, and this place does it right. The space is tight, but doesn't feel cramped. The service is friendly without being overbearing. The food: I give it 5 stars, easily. Started with the hush puppies and cornbread both were excellent. My date had the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy and mac and cheese - no complaints at all. I ordered the burnt ends, red beans and rice and mac and cheese. The ONLY critique (not even criticism) would be that the red beans and rice were just a tad underseasoned, but that was an easy fix. For dessert, we had the double whammy of pecan pie and banana pudding. After making sure I wasn't going to slip into a food coma, I paid our bill and we were on way. SUPER satisfied with this place - large portions, fair prices and friendly service. Can't ask for much more than that!

True PDX night

Great food and drink selections with absolutely PDX environment as super kick back but great food addition to kids friendly. I am believing in no body will complain this place!

Amazing

By Deborah C |

This place was amazing. I had the blackened chicken Po boy with 4 cheese Mac n cheese and my husband had meat loaf trashy Mac.. We both enjoyed it very much. I do recommend giving them a try.

Early Happy Hour

By nchaffin |

Fried okra was good (only the second time I'd had it and I almost prefer the at-home version made by a friend). Had some drinks. It was really dead when we came--middle afternoon. But, it was ok. Nothing to write home about necessarily.

Not true southern

By AZGrotta |

Fried chicken? Skimpy, overcooked in old oil. Red beans and rice? Way too spicy, even for my Louisiana-born husband. Shrimp po'boy? Bread was awful. Nuf said

Day off Brunch

By Jasmine Enciso |

On our days off my husband and I like to try new restaurants that we might not other wise eat at. I had heard of Miss Delta but had never been in the area to actually give it a try. Well we happened by it one Monday and decided to give it a go. The server was very nice and we were seated quickly. I couldn't decide between the chicken & waffles or the biscuits & gravy but ultimately went with the chicken & waffles. I am so glad I did because even as I am writing this I can't help but drool. The chicken was so flavorful, the waffle was fluffy and the praline butter helped tie it all together. Would I eat here again? Most definitely!

This southerner approves

By emily739 |

I grew up in rural MS and have spent most of my life in the Southeast. Eating here was like a taste of home. I had the Mac-n-Cheese special and fried okra. Also some yummy mixed drinks with an Oregon twist. Its a slow restaurant, but its worth the wait.

Soul Food Not To Bad

By Casaundra A |

Service was great considering we had a large group. I usually support African American owned southern food/soul food establishment. Friend recommended this restaurant and I would have to say everything was good - some items need a lil of this or a lil of that but not too bad. Only thing that I really didn't like was the all white framed picture and one big painting of African American girl - not sure what that represented but I felt some type of way - uneasy.

Wonderful Food Bad Service

By megatramp |

The staff seemed confused, made numerous mistakes and wasn't too concerned about repairing the errors.

Charming

By KatharineT629 |

Right in the middle of a busy street, southern food at it's best. Had catfish on a salad, husband had po-boy. Very tasty. Not crazy expansive. Funky decor. Will go back.

WOW!!!!

By CPTnFiji |

After a college visit we stopped by Miss Delta. As soon as you walk in you can smell deliciousness! The place was clean. The staff, no, let me say, ALL the staff was friendly and went out of their way top make sure me and my family were well taken care of. The place has a lively vibe. The beverage selection is OFF THE CHAIN! The lemonade is top notch. We ordered the gumbo, jambalaya, 2 meat bbq plate, and the chicken. It was ALL delicious. On a scale of 1-10....10! The price was just right as well. Great value! We told the staff we came up from Compton, CA on a college visit and the team seemed to really take an interest in our lives. Parking was easy. Pay lot with the Reef ap. Here's a tip. Get the shredded pork on the side. You'll know what I mean when you order.

Great southern food

By Shay M |

I was born and raised in SC and I can say how impressed I was with this restaurant. The waiter was very nice. He came to us immediately and made us feel at home. I had the lemonade (alcoholic) and had no complaints. For appetizer, we started with the fried oysters which was delish. I ordered the gumbo and it had the perfect amount of Shrimp and sausage to make it amazing. It needed no extra flavor (hot sauce or spices) to bring out the southern feel. My husband had the catfish with beans and rice and collard greens. He enjoyed it but I would say the collards were a little big (leaf size). I usually cut mine a little slimmer. Overall we enjoyed our visit. Pros: locations, ambience, food, wait staff. Cons: collards were too large in size and cornbread was dry. As a southern, I highly recommend this place. We ended with an amazing banana pudding.

Southern fixins

By Matthew H |

I’ve lived in the south and travel to South Carolina & Georgia quite often... so I love good Southern food. I had the fried chicken, collard greens, mac n cheese with some cornbread. Fantastic all the way around. It’s a popular spot so be ready to wait. It’s worth it!

Welcoming and Fun

By kathy a |

On a recent Sunday night, my son and I had a fun, delicious meal at Miss Delta. A single waiter was serving multiple tables, but he stopped by immediately to make us feel welcome. Drinks were generous and well-made. The food was excellent! We ordered the blackened catfish po' boy (which was enough for 2 people) and the brisket dinner. Both dishes were wonderfully tasty! This is a lively and colorful spot that will stay on my list of Portland favorites!

Wonderful Southern Food

By addoll |

Absolutely delicious southern style food. So many choices from hush puppies to start, shrimp and grits, gumbo, fried chicken, etc. It was all good and we enjoyed the atmosphere. The staff is friendly and fun.

Tasty, Friendly, Busy

By Brian E |

Ok a quickly here, we got a recommendation to go here from some friends. We went on a Saturday mid morning for brunch and it was packed, groups waiting outside but lucky for us there was a table for 2 ready so we got in straight away. Staff were lovely! Husband had the chicken fried steak which he said was thick and a bit over cooked on the edges but good in the middle. It was thick and seemed to have a thick batter. His Bloody Mary was good. I had the Smoke Stack which was a biscuit with pulled pork, bacon, egg, coleslaw and a bbq sauce. Good portion and at first taste was a flavour explosion but after a while the vinegar in the sauce was just too over powering. There was a lot of sauce so if there was less it would not have been so over powering. I actually don’t like biscuits, but I gotta say this one was good!!! It was big for a biscuit I thought too. The menu looks good and there were a number of specials on the wall that looked enticing too!! Not sure I’ll run back there but if I was invited to meet friends there I’d be happy to go.

Delicious food

My boss and I went here for lunch, my boss let me choose a resturant i wanted to go out to eat. i had looked this resturant up on trip advisor i had a few choices to chew's from and i had saw all the reviews on Miss Delta Resturant and said to my self this place looks good to eat. i got to say this place is the bomb for soul food. delisous and yummie really like this place and there teas are in a mason jar how cool is that. great service and they make really good hush puppys. i had there chicken and wafflies. my kind of food. will be back to this place for sure.

Wonderful fried oysters, pulled pork sandwiches, nice venue

By Claudiagenna |

I had an oyster Po-Boy, I could only eat half of it. It came with a salad, or fries side. I had the cold slaw, my friend had a pulled pork sandwich, again, 1/2 went home. The quality of everything was very good, Their fried chicken is a popular dish, as well. The Bloody Mary with a salad was excellent. The venue is very nice, and it was totally crowded at noon on Saturday. Parking can be a problem, we had to park about 3 blocks away. N Mississippi is a very fun street to walk up and down on. Lot's a independent shops, bars, and restaurants. I highly suggest for a tourist to Portland!!

Truly Southern!

By Elizabeth M |

Small, and a tad bit noisy, but that does not undermine the service and outstanding food! Southern fried chicken, grits, hush puppies, collard greens...it's all there and prepared beautifully! A nice cocktail selection and sweet tea and lemonade in quart Mason jars! You don't want to miss this NW Southern treat.

Downright Good!

By WizardofAz60 |

We came here for a late lunch and were very pleased with our meal. My fiancé ordered the blackened catfish with a side of mac n cheese and a salad. I had the brisket with collard greens and cornbread. The blackened catfish was cooked to perfection as was my brisket. The barbecue sauce that came with the brisket was very good. The cornbread and mac n cheese tasted homemade and were both very tasty. We had great service and thought that our meals were downright good!

Southern Dinner With Friends

By CatchnRelease1 |

For dinner, I had the smoked brisket. The flavor was decent but the brisket was not tender. It needed more time in the smoker. When you need to use a steak knife to cut it, it's not good. The mac n cheese side was very good; the collard greens needed to be cooked longer. Very plain. Wife had the fried chicken. When you peel off the fried coating, the pieces were very small. The chicken was also over cooked and dry. The wait staff was very nice and attentive but I've had a lot better southern cooking in Portland than this place. It's overrated in my book.

Slap Yo' Mamma'

By ken p |

Was talking with a client and about southern food an we got on the subject of chicken and waffles (she being from South Carolina). She said without a doubt, I have to go to Miss Delta's. As it turns out I was going to be in Portland the next day and had a meeting scheduled a few blocks away from that very location. So, off I went. I walked in and started talking to the couple next to me and asked if they were familiar with the place and they said they were. asked for a recommendation and they said, "chicken and waffles". Nuff said. Wow! I have no idea what they did to create the crust on that chicken, but wow. And the butter for the waffle? A sweet pecan type delight! Excellent. Be patient, the parking in this older eclectic neighborhood is scarce so it may take a bit to locate a spot. Worth it.

Almost as good as the real thing

By trista t |

I came with family a few days after Christmas. They don't take reservations but did their best to accommodate our party of ten. The staff was very friendly and the food was tasty. A couple of us were in New Orleans during the summer and were pleasantly surprised at how authentic the food was by comparison. The po'boys are big and yummy. I had catfish, greens and red beans&rice. There was no room for dessert but they looked delicious! The atmosphere could be improved with some Southern jazz and the like but otherwise we had a great time. I would definitely go back

Authentic southern food- amazing Happy Hour

By Jrs2337 |

I lived in the opposite side of the city but I would still make the trek to the Mississippi district for this hidden gem. It's a small place with cool exposed brick and awesome decor. The whole feel is very speakeasy and cool. Now the food is the best I've had outside of the south- my fiancé is from Oklahoma and he considers himself a "chicken and waffles connoisseur" and he's had it everywhere and his favorite still is Miss Deltas!!! I'm obsessed with their hush puppies and fried okra!! Literally everything is good!! And they have the best happy hour in Portland in my opinion!!!!

Plan for a leisurely lunch

By Martin S |

I really enjoyed the Smoked Brisket sandwich and freshly made fries. But if your looking to get in and out during lunch, please allow for prep time. I was told most items are made to order, I would hope so, and it may take 20 to 30 minutes for your food to arrive. No where on the menu or anywhere else in the restaurant states this. Next time I'll plan on a longer experience. The food is worth the return if you are not in a hurry to return to that paying job that allows you to eat out.

Comfort food in a casual environment.

By Gregory W |

Located in the Boise - Eliot neighborhood, on North Mississippi avenue, Miss Delta is a nice little down home style casual BBQ southern style restaurant with a nice atmosphere and very filling entrees. Mississippi avenue is an interesting area to walk off your meal afterwards, lots of little shops and pubs located on the ave.

Skip Miss Delta

By KendraTravels |

I tried this place a few years ago and didn't have the best experience then but thought I'd try it again since so much time had passed. Well, I wish I wouldn't have taken the time. I had the meatloaf, greens and mac cheese. The meat loaf was served lukewarm and it was spicy with chunks of sausage - like the eckrich sausage. It just didn't take good and the fact that it wasn't hot didn't help. The mac & cheese, the first few bites were pretty good. Then it began to taste like the cheese was powder based. I didn't finish it. The greens tasted scorched; almost burnt. Not appealing to the pallet at all. This placed stays packed but don't be fooled. They advertise southern cooking, it's not. You'd be much better off trying Screen Door for real good southern food. But the server was very nice.

Fried Oysters! Yum!

By Jonathan R |

Had to do some business on Mississippi so lunch time came around and we ducked into Miss Delta. My wife lived in Mississippi for awhile going to school at Ole Miss so this looked really inviting! Had a great little lunch. I had the fried chicken and waffles. My wife mixed it all up with rice, beans, collard greens and cole slaw. But the best were the fried oysters! Perfectly moist and not greasy. Slightly sweet and just a tad salty fresh! Could have eaten several plates. We'll be back to try more things on the menu! Not enough room in the tummies! Kenzie was a great waitress and bartender too!

Great bbq

By Mike W |

If bbq can stand on its own without any sauce then it's been prepared the right way. Miss Delta truly delivered with the ribs and brisket. Great place

Lucky find

By King A |

Stopped by for brunch since our original choice, Gravy (across the street) had too long a wait list. Miss Delta's on our brunch "go to" list now. Pretty tight space but the staff makes it work while being pleasant even when packed. Food is "southern delta" centered with some interesting combinations that seem questionable but really work well. Warning, the portions are large (plan on taking some home).

Great and no B.S.

By Sharon Z |

We ended up here when another more "famous" restaurant had an hour and a quarter wait. This was .7 mi away and open on a Saturday morning, so we came. Right away it was better. We actually found a close parking spot on the street! We walked in and got a seat immediately! We could order anything on the menu even though it was not technically "lunch" yet. It was full, but not overly noisy! And wait for it, we got great service! WOW. On top of that the food was very, very good! The sausage cream gravy tasted like cream! and sausage! The chicken and waffles came with real maple syrup. The BBQ was not cooked to death. We were very impressed and happy with the whole experience.

Would definitely return

By catiepie1011 |

I had the Po Boy chicken sandwich and it was awesome! The chicken was amazing, and I would definitely get this again. The fries were perfect too. The homemade lemonade is delicious, I can't get enough of it. Also tried the mac and cheese with pesto and chicken, I would say it is the best I have had in the states. The portions are large, excellent value for money. A great little restaurant.

Good food good service

By fireinjunjoe |

Went to dinner w/ daughter and her boyfriend. Food was good. Service was good. I had the smoked brisket and it was good. Couple beers to wash it down. The beer selection was modest but adequate. Small place, dark inside. Miss Delta is located in North Portland. The largest challenge is finding parking on Mississippi or near by. This area has a long list of small restaurants to chose from. I would go back again.

Large portions

By Brandon S |

We were here for brunch. The servings were massive and delicious. Not many options for vegetarians but I still found a pretty good meal, Pancakes and two eggs on the side.

Dinner at Miss Delta's

By Bri413 |

The service was great and the food was excellent. I had the trashy mac with pesto and chicken and it was delicious. The gumbo and Étouffée came highly recommended by our group too.

Used to be great

By pazduha |

We've eaten at Miss Delta several times and it has always been a good experience. Not last week. Perhaps they have a new cook, but the hush puppies were soggy and flavorless and accompanied by a weird, bland bean sauce. The rest of the meal was passable, but not quite as good as it used to be. The service was incredibly, annoyingly slow. Several other parties were seated after us, served and left before we got our food. Our waitress seemed to dislike us. I'm sorry to drop this restaurant off the list of places I'd go again.

Delicious Southern Cuisine

By Ambra W |

This is some of the best southern food I have had in Portland. I am from Tennessee and I have visited many southern style restaurants in the area. Miss Delta gets as close to southern cooking as I would get at home. They had the best gravy I had found in Portland. I had never had chicken and waffles before. I was not disappointed. I liked the chicken more than I liked the waffle and the waffle was phenomenal. I cannot wait to visit again to try some of the other dishes,

Delicous burger

By Paul Y |

Went there for southern food but did a bacon burger. The slaw was very tasty and the burger did not have one bit of fat or chunky bits. Everyone's meal was tasty.

Miss Delta will feed you!

By Jerry H |

Southern done well... drinks too! Been a few times, worked through the menu, never dissatisfied... ever!

Average

By Courtney M |

Again, another place that touts southern food but doesn't deliver. The fried chicken was quite decent, though they do fried chicken well at most places in Portland with 1-2 notable exceptions. The grits actually had the proper consistency, though they do not have plain grits, only cheese grits. The stewed okra and tomatoes was tasty. The banana pudding was not fresh and not very good. It lacked enough cookies and bananas. The 1-2 banana pieces were brown. The pudding had a runny consistency. You could make a better pudding following the directions on the side of a nilla wafers box. The biscuits and gravy was....well, bland and unappetizing. Definitely not the delicious, hearty dish served at most southern establishments. The biscuit was not soft, but my daughter likes crunchy biscuits so thought it was ok. The sweet tea was appropriately sweet, but had a slightly bitter aftertaste. After tasting everything, we asked for the pudding and biscuits and gravy to be taken off the bill. The server was so sweet. Being from the south, she understood our acute disappointment. She also comped our drinks. A+ for service. C- for food. When we left Miss Delta's, we went to Tasty n Sons so my daughter could get some food, since she was pretty hungry.

Delicious burnt ends!

By Lostelement |

Miss Delta's does a good job on southern food. The burnt ends were delicious, but only come as a sandwich so we ordered it without the bun as an appetizer with the fried okra. The breading on the okra was amazing! It made me want to get the catfish fried instead of blackened. The catfish was tender & delicious but I felt the seasoning lacked some zest, but I will try it again fried. The manager is a really nice guy, it was slow in there & he was the only person in front of house but was super friendly. I will def go back & try more of the menu. The gumbo looked really good as well.

Great southern food

By TerisTravels2 |

Stopped here on a whim and really glad we did. Authentic southern food - po boys, ribs, slaw, pulled pork. Their drink menu and bar was great. Food was good and hearty.

Southern cooking at its best.

By Carolann F |

Can you say, YUMMY!!!! Great atmosphere and the most delicious food I have had in a while. Also, Stumptown coffee. Nothing else needs to be said. . . .

Fire lame wait staff

By Galen S |

This is the second and final time, after many visits over the last decade, that I try and support Miss Delta restaurants. You service at both the Broadway and Mississippi locations has really gone down the toilet lately. Your food continues to be good, but there are many other options in both locations, and I’ll be Spending my money elsewhere.

Just SICK food

By BobBarnett |

Best Mac & cheese I've ever had. Great Mojito and perfect corn fritters w gravy. I saw 2 guys destroying BBQ ribs as if they were mad at them. Funky and cheap.

Call first....

By Windwalker61 |

My son and I tried to go there for my birthday, after spending 30-45 minutes to find a parking space, and walking six blocks to the restaurant, we discovered the restaurant closed. The floors were being repaired or resurfaced, really does not matter which. As we walked up, there was a couple looking bewildered at their discovery of the closure. Before we decided where else to eat, another couple walked up and discovered the closure. There was no indication on the website of the restaurant being closed, granted my fault for not calling to verify they were open, a notice on the web would have prevented a disappointing trip.

Terrible!

By megscakes |

Chicken fried steak was shaped like a slightly flattened baseball; almost impossible to cut and impossible to chew. Mac and Cheese was a particularly tasteless glop of pene pasta and thick sauce. They did deduct the Mac n’ Cheese from our bill. The salad was fresh and service ok.

Fun spot with great people watching and huge hurricanes!

By Julie A |

My husband and I stopped into this classic southern soul food spot while walking around the Portland Mississippi Ave area on a beautiful Saturday in March. Our first indulgence was their giant and very tasty hurricanes. Then disappointment. It took forever for the food to come out (the server explained they were down a cook.) We had the ribs, collard greens, and red beans and rice with pork added (the best part of the meal.) I think caught them on an off day because the ribs were the worst we've ever had. They had not been slow cooked nearly long enough. The meat was tough with huge chucks of fat that should have "dissolved" during a proper slow cooking process. Fun place. Just feel we caught them on an off day.

I love the Meatloaf!

By almostmonday |

With a daily rotating meatloaf it's been hard for me to order anything else. I have on occasion enjoyed the jambalaya and some Cajan blackened catfish. Their drinks are delicious and my favorite is the Farmers Daughter. The atmosphere is fun and casual, the service is usually quite good.

Sunday Bruch! Yes!

By almostmonday |

The food and drinks never disappoint. The Bloody Mary's are made to perfection with a wide range of veggies. I usually drink the Farmers Daughter which is delightful. All but one of our 6 had breakfast. The chicken friend steak is to die for. The jambalaya was said to be just like he was in Louisiana. The service was great and attentive. I enjoy the atmosphere, it could be a couple dudes drinking PBR 40's sitting next to a lovely well dressed couple on a date with martinis. Everyone fits in and I always look forward to going there! Yum!

Amaaaazing Southern!

By TommyEureka |

Get the Deep Fried Okrah! That's all there is to it. Breakfast and lunch menus run concurrently, so we had Chicken Fried Chicken and okrah in the A.M. Soooooo gooooood! Don't forget to smother everything in gravy! You're on vacation.

"Miss"ed on all notes!

By Dave L |

I was given a gift certificate to this place so I took my girlfriend with me to check the place out. It is in a cool little neighborhood so we though we might make a night of it. We ordered the sampler platter and it came with baby back ribs, smoked brisket and pulled pork. It also came with 2 sides and cornbread which were cheese grits and collard greens, we will come back to those. Lets start with the meat, the brisket was tough, the fat hadn't broke down so it was really chewy. Most well smoked brisket the fat will just melt in your mouth, not the case here. The pulled pork was soppy and just not good. The ribs were so bad. First of all ribs are NOT supposed to fall off of the bone! Good ribs, rather ribs smoked right, will have a small cling to the bone. This is rib 101. I come from Kansas, 20 minutes outside of KC so I know my meat and my smoke. The seasoning on the ribs tasted exactly like beef jerky and that is exactly what the consistency of the bark was like as well, tough as jerky. The cheese grits were so lumpy and disgusting they were almost inedible. The greens were good . When we were leaving the waitress finally realized we never got our cornbread which we didn't care because nothing else was good and neither was this, cakey. Avoid at all costs.

Great service from our waitress.

By Ashlandbuck |

Fried okra app too salty but good texture. I cook. I make good gumbo. My husband could not eat this gumbo, made without a roux. Fried oyster poor boy was just OK. Great taco! But the noise level was the highest I've experienced. We had to shout conversation at each other. Oh, very good gin martini! But I won't return because of the noise.

Very very bad. Disappointing

By Frank4014 |

Bad service. Slow. Disorganized. Too bad as I've eaten here before and enjoyed it. Not sure I'll go back. Staff seemed confused. Wrong food brought to table. Waited an hour before food came. No refill after asked for.

Fried Shrimp PoBoy!

By ARoz5967 |

Being from New Orleans, I am always on the hunt for a great fried shrimp PoBoy. I found one at Miss Delta in Portland, OR. It's never perfect outside New Orleans because you can't obtain the right bread, but Mis Delta does a fine job. The fried shrimp is plentiful and the price is right especially at Happy Hour when you can grab one for only $7. I would like to have it be a litle more sassy, but that can be handled with the addition of tabasco sauce. I'm seeing the lines start to form as the word gets out about this establishment. Stop in and give it a try!!

Good Southern Cooking

By Michael A |

I wanted to find a place for fried catfish so we followed the recommendations of TripAdvisor to Miss Delta. We were there early (5:45 pm) so it was not crowded. I had the catfish, cole slaw, hushpuppies and red beans and rice which were all very good. My wife had the shrimp and grits which were also good. Portions are ample. The ice tea was in a large glass, the prices were reasonable, and the service was outstanding. We’ll have to go back to try the chicken fried steak.

By Futurefirstlady |

Very cute place, small and quaint. I haven't had BBQ or southern food in a while and this took me back to home cooking styles I know and love. The portions are LARGE, so come hungry! The biscuits were absolute wonderous, the brisket was something else and the chicken fried steak I will dream about for weeks.

Yum yum yum

By Babs8 |

Fantastic meal! BBQ shrimp and grits was seasoned to perfection. Also tried the Mac and cheese with meatloaf...was absolutely comfort food at it's finest. Staff was engaging and knowledgeable. Really recommend if you are in this fantastic neighbor.

Fantastic New Orkeans cusine in Portland. Po Bo's are divine and try a Dixie beer or even the Frank "Blue Velvet" Booth favorite: Pabst Blue Ribbon. Comfortable place also with a good vibe

Eh

By Tayler W |

We googled "best biscuits and gravy in Portland Oregon" and this place came up in the search so we drove out of the way, parked a mile away and walked in the rain to get here...got in and it was a cool little environment. Cute decor and good atmosphere. I don't know how busy it normally gets but a group of sailors walked in right after us so we didn't get tended to for a while... There was this petite man with a serious attitude working there...I wasn't even sure if he was a server or what he was cuz he gave off a weird vibe from the get go. But we needed a kids menu and didn't know if him or the woman was our server so we caught him walking by and he didn't even stop to hear what we needed! He kept walking and said yeah...and did a couple things (brought food to a table then water to another) and then he kind of walked around aimlessly for a while and then went and got menus and gave them to the other lady and a few minutes later we got a kids menu... Not sure why he couldn't just give it to us really quick but whatever. The entire time he was waking around with his dress shoes loud as ever clacking around like he ran the place and his poop didn't stink (he may have ran the place I DONT KNOW) but if he did run it, that's no way to act towards paying customers. Anyways...if I didn't have 5 other people with me I would have left after dealing with that from him. But we stayed. Most everyone ordered a half order of biscuits and gravy that were a good deal at $7...and everyone took a couple bites and pushed it aside claiming the biscuit was hard as a rock and so $50 down the drain, we left. I myself had the sausage and potatoes and I enjoyed it so I wouldn't say don't go there food wise...but I personally won't be back because of the way this little petite man made my family feel so unimportant and insignificant.

My favorite

By Todd M |

If you are in a hurry, this is not the place for you. We were told it would be 20 minutes for a table, and we would have to go back out in the rain to wait. The service was friendly, but slow. The wait for the food seemed like forever. Totally worth it. The food is amazing.

What a great find! Dare I say I like it better than Screen Door?

By ToniPortland_OR |

Wow! This place is fantastic! I visited with 8 other people for lunch and we were all extremely pleased with our meals. The portions were large, the flavors were bold, and the service was super friendly. The chicken and waffles got a huge thumbs up and the biscuits were especially amazing. Despite the large serving sizes, we went home with very few leftovers. We will definitely be back!

Gumbo, Baby!

By Mary W |

Now that's hat I'm talking about! Chicken, sausage, and shrimp gumbo was delicious and the bowl was a healthy size. Served with hush puppies. Yummy! My companion had andouille sausage and eggs, with a flaky biscuit the size of his fist. Great value, friendly service, and excellent food. Highly recommend.

This restaurant would have received 5 stars, except it took us 45 minutes to get our main dishes and 20 minutes for one desert. We were visiting our daughter at college and she wanted southern style food. Tripadvisor led us to this restaurant in an eclectic neighborhood. Parking is a definite problem and we ended up parking in a neighborhood four blocks from the restaurant. We were seated immediately and it took about 10 minutes before we saw our waiter. Fortunately I had read the fried okra is good, so we ordered this as an appetizer, otherwise we would have just sat for over an hour with no food. By the way, the fried okra is good. They were small and fairly crispy. My daughter and I shared fried chicken. They ran out of boned white chicken so we each had a very very large chicken tenderloin. It was very moist inside the delicious coating. My husband had the blackened cat fish and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The mashed potatoes were good as well. For desert the 3 of us shared a banana pudding. I think it was served on vanilla wafers. It was cool, creamy, and tasty. The restaurant didn't charge us for desert, as it took us over 2 hours to get fed....which is ok for fine dining, but this meal should have taken no more than 1 1/2 hours. The restaurant's music is very loud, which makes it difficult to talk. This makes the meal wait time seem even longer. The restaurant's food is so good, they need a larger kitchen, more than 2 cooks, and management staying on top of the time it is taking the guests to be fed.
