Love Miss Rachel's!

By JennileeAD |

I had Miss Rachel's for the first time at a Vegfest in Philly a couple of years ago and fell in love. Her hand pies are insanely good. Well we've since had a lot of her food including her incredible mac and cheese, (my son's very favorite), and her grilled cheese with peaches (OMG). The restaurant cafe is no longer open, however, you can still go there for their dinner sit downs, by reservation. They also have a casserole club and do special events. You really can't go wrong with her food, and if you get a chance to meet Rachel herself, she's an absolute sweetheart.

A must place to vedge out

With Philadelphia having so many great restaurants and their fair share of vegetarian and vegan options you wouldn't expect another great one but then you would be wrong. Miss Rachel's hits the foodie mark with her glorious assault on the vegetable garden with her family seating set menu that blows you away. An unassuming old converted garage complete with garage door welcomes you into a wonderfully adventurous five course heaven in South Philadelphia. You need to make reservations way in advance as well as prepay for your meal but then it gives you nothing to do while you're there but wonder how veggies could taste so good in such inventive ways. The menu is specific for that day and at the end of the meal Miss Rachel comes to every table to greet every guest. So the moral of the story is listen to your Mother and EAT YOUR VEGETABLES!

Kind and Accommodating

Just visiting Philadelphia, we decided to go to Rachel's Pantry for vegan food within walking distance. They don't have many gluten free items but just about everything is homemade and crafted with care. Upon studying the menu, me and my boyfriend couldn't decide on an entree because we eat mostly gluten-free and they said they were out of their "Big Salad" menu item. After a few minutes, the cooks offered to put together ingredients for one more Big Salad. We were so grateful and ordered that with the cheese plate and a knish. It was all delicious! Also, free coffee fridays!!

Best Italian restaurant in town

What can I say. If you are looking for a vegan Italian gourmet meal you need to go there. Even if you are not vegan you are going to appreciate this unique place with the most amazing 5 course menu.

A vegan wedding dream come true

One month after our wedding, and I’m still hearing rave reviews about the food! Rachel and Jess took the best care of us and made sure that everything was absolutely flawless leading up to and on our wedding day. They were beyond professional and such a pleasure to work with. I’m so thankful for their patience and talent in making it the best and yummiest day ever. Also, join them for a dinner event! The menu is so creative and the space is really cozy.

Vegan Thanksgiving dinner delivered and delicious!

By tangstake |

We were staying in Philadelphia over the Thanksgiving break and as a group of three vegetarians, was a little worried about what we would do for a meal. Miss Rachel's Pantry was the answer - they prepare and cook complete Thanksgiving platters and deliver them to you the day before. All you need to do is heat and eat! The meal was of incredibly generous proportions (there were three of us and we couldn't eat everything that had been supplied for two people!), tasty and attractively presented. It was also delightful to deal with the staff of Miss Rachel's Pantry, who were not at all fazed by the fact that I was ordering from Australia and so couldn't follow the usual payment and delivery arrangements. They were very flexible and accommodating on both fronts. I only wish we were here long enough to enjoy a meal at the restaurant.

Fun (vegan) dining experience!

My husband and I made reservations for Miss Rachel's Pantry more than a month in advance and had looked forward to a night of fine, fun vegan dining. The experience did not disappoint. If you are a vegan, or, like dining vegan, and are in the Philly area - make plans to dine here! (If coming from out of town, reserve a spot in advance! Only seats 12 per Saturday night and is typically booked! Walk-ups cannot usually be accommodated.) We arrived about 10 minutes early and got settled in. Two other families joined the table, and our conversation was flowing from the start. It is BYOB! The bread and spread on the table upon arrival hit the spot! The four courses were well timed, and served hot. All four courses were delicious and creative. There were 2 choices for each course, so my husband and I tried each and every one. Yum! It felt like we were enjoying dinner at a friend's house, cozy, warm, quaint and even better, no clean-up! Dessert was amazing - banana bread pudding and flour-less chocolate cake. Miss Rachel checked in on our table to make sure everything was going okay, and of course, we all praised her and her cooking skills! Wow. The price cannot be beat! 4 courses was $45/person plus tax and tip. I would love to go back to Miss Rachel's with a group of friends - now - if I only had some who ate vegan...

Just get here!

What an absolute gem of a vegan gourmet take out place! Daughter and son-in-law gave us a gift certificate and we made excellent use of it. Super execution of great tempeh, tofu, seitan and fresh veg recipes! We'll be back...
