Delicious food

By S G S |

The place feels very small. Got seated immediately. Wine selection is nice but cocktail selection could've been better. The fried Green Beans were just ok but potato croquet was heavenly and asparagus was tender and rightly done. Risotto was buttery and delicious. Totally worth it

Cozy space, amazing food!

By MariettaPNW |

We had a lovely celebratory dinner at mkt this past weekend. We had an amazing time! The space is comfortable and so cozy (only about 10 tables or so). The food and service was so incredible. The truffle cauliflower soup, seared scallops and blackberry panna cotta were all out of this world! Definitely make yourself a reservation and eat here right away!

Truly Memorable

By Rumples |

Remembering the superb dinner we had here last year, my husband and I brought a friend with us this year to savor the food. I'm happy to report that the standards remain exceedingly high with every morsel testifying to the chef's amazing culinary creativity with fresh and high-quality ingredients. I've dined at most of Seattle's top-rated restaurants and consider Mkt to be the creme de la creme. It offers a sharing menu with choices grouped under Vegetables, Fish, Meat, Pasta & Grains. Staff recommends that each diner order two to three items for the table. I suggest two if anyone wants to end with a dessert. We started with five -- each arrives whenever prepared -- and enjoyed everything. The beautifully seasoned beets were delicious and the steamed Penn Cove mussels proved to be tender and delectable. Their broth had so much flavor that we couldn't resist ordering a baguette to ensure that we sopped up every drop. Both the pork and Wagu beef came perfectly prepared, earning from us an outstanding approval rating. But the ravioli with morels sent our taste buds into ecstasy and we requested a second helping. Two of us managed to finish with a pudding-type chocolate dessert. Excellent customer service in a friendly, professional manner seems to be the motto of the staff here. There is absolutely nothing that I thought could have been done better, from the initial warm greeting to the impeccable table service throughout our stay. Our total bill for three people came to $233.85. That includes a $40 bottle of wine, tax and a 20 percent service charge, which many Seattle restaurants now assess, because of the increased minimum wage here. This is a small restaurant (28 seats) with no fancy dining room to compliment the fabulous food. Instead, rustic tables stand close together in a line with additional seating at two little counter areas by the entrance. We sat at the last table next to a wall and experienced no problems with noise level. There are plenty of free parking spaces on the street in the neighborhood. But as space is limited in the restaurant, I highly recommend making reservations.

Cozy, creative & delicious

By TheCuri0usOne |

It was my wife's first birthday after our wedding so had to make it special. I am a foodie and have been in the vicinity of Seattle for over 2 years but this was my first chance experiencing at one of the Ethan Stowell locations, Mkt. is their newest btw. Mkt is a very small place, I think it may only seat upto 25-ish at best in a seating, so you get the idea. Limited seating was the first thing that struck me, it signaled quality and standards. Reservations are a must. We were welcomed with glasses of Champagne for the occasion. The waitress explained to us the menu, how the kitchen works and her recommendations from all the courses. The menu is expensive, I think intentionally. The place is designed for experience and pampering. Take someone near and dear there and they are guaranteed to be impressed. The appetizers and entrees are really creative. The portion size is small, so to be full you would need to order multiple appetizers/entrees. But each bite is guaranteed to pack a punch of flavors. Desserts are mostly wines. The Pistachio tart would be my recommendation. We are vegetarians and the menu has an excellent selection of vegetarian options. Wines (by glass or bottle) are pricier than any other place but we didn't mind it for a dinner. All in all I'd recommend this place with all my heart, it's a never to be missed experience if you wanna make an evening memorable.

Fabulous restaurant , mkt. (pronounced market)

By Nann Z |

The rest of this world seems to know about this little restaurant, but it is new to us. And what a find itt is! No more than about twelve tables (I didn't count) it was full up, not noisy, had excellent, unobtrusive service, pleasant ambience and fabulous food. What ore could one want. Four of us went and everyone enjoyed everything. My husband and I each had roast cauliflower soup which had in it mushrooms and truffles. Then he had some marvelous black cod in some kind of wonderful broth. I had grilled scallops with all sorts of good things, pears parsnips apple puree and some things I can't remember, though they are listed on the menu.. Wonderful. For dessert everyone had 'seasonal sorbet', and this season it was made of fennel, we all thought, and it came with two delicious cookies. The portions were not skimpy, but small enough so that we didn't have to choose appetizer or dessert.

Amazing food, great atmosphere

By Katie M |

Loved this place. Such a cozy atmosphere and the food was amazing. We ordered the fritters, hamachi and tartar to start. Hamachi melts in your mouth and the fritters were unreal. Tartar was just okay. The pasta with mushrooms was the best part - so creamy but the hint spice took it to the next level.

Great food, great service

By vernonmom |

Very friendly staff. Our daughter is moving out to Seattle for grad school and the dessert came with a candle to celebrate. That was a nice touch. The green beans and duck leg are really good. So far, the best meal we've had in Seattle during our 3 day visit. Intimate, romantic setting. Not too many tables so make your reservations early. There was a good variety of small and large plates to choose from.

Generous portions, great flavors

By Jenny from Santa Cruz |

My friend and I had a great dinner here. The food was delicious. The pesto conghili was very tasty, just spicy enough to be interesting without feeling too fiery, and the portion was HUGE. I barely ate it all. The cocktail menu had tons of interesting options and I loved my spritz. We appreciated the outdoor shaded, semi-enclosed seating. It sheltered us a bit from the bustle of the street while still letting us enjoy fresh air. But there were also indoor options. The server was attentive without hovering.

Hip

By Virginia T |

The space is extremely small, bustling, and noisy. Not necessarily a negative, depending on one's preferences. Food is tasty and unique, with prompt and friendly service. Decor is contemporary minimalist.

Exceptional Pasta

By Ana |

We came here on a Sunday evening for happy hour. The happy hour was great! We ordered some food off the HH menu and some food from the regular menu. Everything was exceptional. The pastas were especially good. Some of the best pasta in Seattle. They also have gluten free pasta that is really delicious too. Carolyn was our server and she's one of the best servers we've ever had.

Excellent new restaurant offering in Tangeltown

By travellingsloths |

New dining location, brought to you by Ethan Stowell: it's a super intimate space, in the shared plate concept. The atmosphere is very nice, the open kitchen is not too loud so it is quite pleasant. The staff was wonderful and the food was simply excellent. We ordered Hamachi ceviche, Wagyu beef, mushrooms and duck egg: everything was cooked perfectly and was very well matched. Our neighboring table got slow cooked veggies and the pistachio and quince tart, both of which I will order next time. I highly recommend this restaurant and I will be returning there soon.

A must during Restaurant Week

By Joemarie |

We always try to snag a table during restaurant week, great way to sample their seasonal menu. Small but amazing service, very cozy!

I love it

By carlossantistevan |

I try to get avreservation al MKT each time Inam in Seattle. I have been lucky this time I have eaten there two, times. Food is excellent. We enjoyed the lovely ravioli, the fantastic brussel sprouts and the superb beef. I like the model of this restaurant. The outcome is great.

Great spot

By twintp |

This is a cozy little place with a long bench down a hallway with tables and chairs in front of it. The opposite wall is a large mirror to make the space feel larger but you also get to watch the kitchen too. So you may get to know your neighbor but also, you can see other dishes go by and drool over the items you missed! The staff are very friendly and the place is spotless- we watched them shining the stainless steel walls in the kitchen. We shared 4 dishes and all were fabulous and we felt full but not overstuffed so portion size was good. Make a reservation and stop by this place multiple times to check out their many offerings!

Lovely meal

By jmary1973 |

My husband and I visited MKT on October 12 for a 8pm reservation. The restaurant feels nice/casual and welcoming. The gentleman that greeted us was a bit rude and stand-offish. We had reservations and yet, even with the restaurant half empty, made us feel foolish. (with a reservation) hence the 4 stars. However, after that, the experience was great. cocktails were great, the meal was wonderful and our experience was great. I had the pesto shrimp pasta and my hubby ate the sausage pasta. It's unfortunate their management does not understand the customer's first experience and their last is what they take with them.

GOOD FOOD

By Gerry E |

We enjoyed the fritters, the gnocchi, the halibut, the green beans and the ravioli. The carrots weren't very good.

Märkət is a Beast!

By topgunn_av8or |

My wife and I pride ourselves in the fact that we live in a city where there are so many great culinary chefs and restaurants. We have been to so many great restaurants but we continually come back here week after week! We love bringing friends from out of town or just showing up here for a wonderful date night! This restaurant is NOT kid friendly. So come and enjoy a night away from yours if you want to; or need to! FOOD!!!! We seem to have our own prefix when we show up that consist of: ~Grilled and marinated green beans, sea salt, lemon ~Porcini ricotta ravioli, grana padano, mushroom butter sauce, marjoram ~Hamachi ceviche, citrus-cucumber ice, coriander, pickled red onion ~Grilled wagyu beef crusted with peppercorn, rosemary, fingerling potatoes, fried onions, red wine sauce We of course have tried all of the items on the menu but we find ourselves coming back to these staples. You really cant go wrong with whatever you choose on the menu. STAFF!!! Any restaurant should be able to make you great food. However, to be an exceptional restaurant you have to have more!!!! Head Chef Alvin and Sous Chef Mark are a great team. They are very friendly and are excited to interact with those who sit at the chefs counter. And man, can they cook! We have never once received anything from them that wasn't cooked to perfection. Manager Sara is such a joy to see when we walk in the door! She makes sure all guests are taken care of and everything is to their satisfaction. She has a great staff who are as unique and amazing as Seattle is.

Unexpectedly small, amazing staff and terrific food

By Nanzi |

In love with this gem of an establishment. Want to keep it a bit of secret so saying nothing more. Hugs to Matt, Ani and my JC girl.

the flavors!!!

By 123jmack |

i love this place, everything is always cooked impeccably, on my most recent trip back to mkt, i had the special pasta dish (forget the name, but it was similar to a ravioli), i can't even explain how delicious all the flavors were together, and it didn't even have meat in it (im very much a meat eater), the green beans are a must, we had some delicious oysters with an apple mignonette, i was so happy with the meal, previous to this week's visit, i had gone my dad's bday and we had several dishes including alaskan king salmon, which was cooked to a flaky perfection, i can't say enough good things about this delicious place, go there now!

A place to share

By tojo25 |

They have a very inventive menu and when they describe it to you they advise you to select items that you wish to share with those with whom you are dining. The menu goes from top to bottom in size and price and from left to right in type of food. We selected about 6 different items for the 3 of us and each one was delicious. It was just enough also. The duck confit was particularly delicious as were the salads. Each one had a mixture of tastes and textures that all seemed to flow well together. And, they were healthy! It is a small "hole in the wall" restaurant but don't let that fool you: Make reservations!

Spectacular small plates

By james p |

My wife and I took our college son and girlfriend to Mkt, located in Tangletown near Green Lake, at her suggestion. It is small - maybe 20 seats. Service was excellent. The dishes are served family style. Each is not very big; so I thought I might end up hungry. Not true! More to the point, however, is the quality of each dish. The dishes that I especially liked were: Hamachi ceviche with citrus-cucumber ice, coriander, pickled red onions; Sea scallops, smoked pork shank, white beans, chervil (the scallops were PERFECT); Grilled pork tenderloin, chiogga beets, pickled mustard seed, roasted beet greens; Smoked wild mushrooms, sweet potato gnocchi, crispy shallots, thyme (I am not usually a gnocchi fan-these were light, tender and incredibly flavorful); and Ricotta ravioli, black truffle butter, sunchoke chips, chive. Everything was delicious. It isn't cheap - with a nice bottle of Washington Malbec and tip it was almost $250 for 4 people. For a memorable meal, it is well worth it.

A restaurant worth going to.

By Miriahm D |

The three of us shared a variety of small plates, all of which were really tasty, and the duck breast was done perfectly. Service was very friendly and efficient. The restaurant is small and the tables close together, and you might consider when making reservations to avoid the table at the end, as it is right next to the door leading to the WC. I was disappointed to read in some of the other reviews that they do sometimes have pannacotto which I adore but there you have it, next time.

Wonderful find

By Samuel W |

This is an Ethan Stohl establishment that we stumbled upon in Meridian section of North Seattle. It is small, seating perhaps 24 inside, but has outside seating. We had the filet, quail and beet salad. All wonderful. The staff are great offering good wine suggestions. We had a Nebbiolo which work well for both. Give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

almost michelin standard

By drfoody |

the food here is imaginative and beutifully prepared. the style is tapas with mulitple small dishes shared by the group dining together. the resturant is quite small anc cramped and hot in the summer. Ask to eat at the 'half'outside table.

Hidden Gem Near Greenlake

By Goosie L |

This restaurant knocked my sock off. Enjoyed a dinner with two friends who also seak out new culinary experiences and Mkt. provided it all. The three of us shared dishes served family style. The grilled and marinated green beans were colorful, flavorful and crisp and I don't even like beans! Next was roasted cauliflower soup which was heavenly, followed by porcini mushroom ricotta ravioli which were so lightweight they could have floated off the plate. The waiter warned us that the grilled whole trout included the head and tail and it was so big it drooped off the plate but was accompanied by tasty delicata, mushrooms, arugula and fennel sauce. We were thrilled over the Grilled Niman Ranch beef in a white truffle sauce. Their wine selection is excellent and they have an extraordinary dessert menu. Everything was so well prepared and the service so good that we will have dinner there again. Chef Ethan Stowell is a genius and should be given the key to the city.

Interesting food

By seatravelerSeattle |

The food here was very unique, a haven for people that love to share their food. Two of the really good snacks were the marinated green beans and crispy quail.....yum. It's a bistro-type place, lots of energy and noise and we sat at the front next to the window. I think they tried to jam too many people in the front. Not much room between the window and the row of seats behind. Lots of neighborhood ambiance, though.

Great intimate adult place!

By megankathleenlikes |

The food was delicious. I love this neighborhood, near Greenlake. The service is friendly & casual. This is a nice way to enjoy local food in a nice environment.

warm evening near perfection

By saucyb |

the only disappointment at MKT was the barstools. they are very attractive but a bit severe for a delicious, leisurely meal. i was so pleased that the service was warm, attentive and unpretentious: YAY! oh, and the food. very thoughtful, expertly prepared, and so tasty. carrot fritters with pesto, hamachi and sweet potato gnocchi were all outstanding. the cod had a zingy sauce and was super tender. also liked the wine list options.

Intimate restaurant

By Sfio77 |

I visited for dinner with a couple of colleagues. We got seated on the bar next to the open kitchen, which was great as we could watch the dishes being prepared and chat with the chef. Mkt is an intimate place with a large wine list and a menu divided into vegetables, pasta&grains, meat and fish. As a vegan, I found that the chef could adapt 4-5 of the dishes and they made a special adaptation of a grits dish with squash, which was just beautiful. The green beans and brussel sprouts were a hit with us - we ordered 3 plates each and shared. Note to veggies: the vegetables are prepared on the same open grill as the meat and fish, which means that strict veggies have almost no choice although the team may be able to work something out, they were very friendly.

Spectacular

By Watto59 |

Just had a fantastic meal at Mkt. the food was so different, a unique blend of flavors, everything tastes so fresh. Not your usual fare, and the staff are very friendly and accommodating of food allergies. The chef came and chatted to us after we enquired about the fries, which are to die for! We will for sure come back the next time we are in Seattle. This is a small restaurant so best to make reservations as it is busy even in the middle of the week, what does that tell you! Fantastic!

Excellent in every way

By msmarls |

Mkt is another winner from chef Ethan Stowell. A teeny tiny restaurant with a huge amount of personality, every dish we ordered was a winner. Loved the nettle ravioli and the mushroom gnocchi, actually everything we ordered was great! Dishes are small and meant to be shared, and since seating is close there were lots of friendly inquiries being made all around us (along the lines of, 'that looks good, what is it?'). Friendly and knowledgable servers, great wine selection. Just make sure you have a reservation so you don't miss out on this great little place.

"FAN"tastic!

By Jackie A |

This was our first time at mkt. and I can't say enough great things about it. The restaurant is small but it made us feel like we were at a family function, with all the comforts of home, except the food was way better! My husband and I went with another couple for Seattle Restaurant Week. We were so lucky to have Simon and Seth taking care of us. They were wonderful! We tried 1 of each 1st course and shared - smart idea because everything was delicious. If we had to pick a favorite, Dinah's Cheese and the Hamachi ceviche tied....amazing. Second course - steak and scallops - both were cooked perfectly. The wine Simon recommended and all of our desserts were also incredible. Highly recommended and we will definitely return! We're big FANS!

Tnagletown highlight

By UWFan53 |

MKT is the Tangletown location for Ethan Stowell. It is small (28 seats). The menu highlights local ingredients. My wife ordered gnocchi with lamb shank which was excellent. I ordered scallops, also a great choice. The zucchini squash fritters and beans were great starters. Don't skip desert. Every dish was a great combination of fresh local ingredients, perfectly prepared, not overdone with sauces or extras. Worth the drive.

If you can get a reservation go!

By TaksuBali |

Mkt is nestled in a small space creatively utilized with steel and oak in the heart of Tangletown near Green Lake. While in Seattle staying at my friends house a few blocks away she said she would like to treat me with a meal at Mkt that had recently opened if we could get a reservation as there are less than 30 seats. Seems it is very popular right from the start and continues to become even more so. We delight in sharing great experiences wherever we travel from the middle of Manhattan to the middle of the Outback in Australia. Since she now lives in Seattle and I in Bali I look forward to our semi-annual visits to share great conversations and great food. Mkt has a niche market in

Cozy is a euphemism

By mary e |

Your experience at this restaurant will greatly depend on where you are seated. It is tiny. We had made advanced reservations, but when we were shown to our table I was shocked to see that it was in a corner and abutted the entrance to the restroom. My "cube" (seats are uncomfortable wooden cubes with 2-inch backs, another story) actually encroached into the doorway. It was very hot and when I mentioned that to the server he adjusted the ventilation, which consisted of a Vornado fan mounted above the restroom entrance. Every time the restroom door was opened, which was very often, we were treated to the aroma of deodorizer. The food might have been good if enjoyed at a different table but it was impossible to appreciate either the food or wine. There is simply NO WAY that the staff and owner could be unaware of this issue. I must conclude that Ethan Stowell decided to squeeze an expensive restaurant into a space more suitable for a sandwich shop, but it works for HIM! I left feeling cheated and disrespected as a customer.

Best in a long time

By RobLaw47 |

We've traveled a lot recently - Germany, Montreal and Vancouver - always looking for a restaurant like MKT. I was prepared to be disappointed again. But no! This is the real deal. Real, thoughtful food in an interesting setting with attentive but not intrusive service. So - steak tartar, endive salad, porcini ravioli and fried quail. Each was close to perfect (OK, perfect.) The place is small and barebones. For those who want to find fault, you may get a table with a view of the dishwasher. And we had to wait until 9:15 for a table. Next time we won't be able to get in at all.

Great

By Edunbar3 |

A totally adorable little restaurant with and OUTSTANDING menu with all kinds of tasty dishes for everyone to share. Also a very adorable delicious wine list and extremely attentive wait staff....

Unique fun and delicious

By dahlia8 |

Mkt is a very small, quaint restaurant. The kitchen is open and there isn't a lot of seating. We had reservations at 8:15 but the people at our table decided to sit for another 40 minutes after they were done. The staff was wonderful. They felt so bad about us standing and waiting they gave us a delicious fois gras appetizer. Our food was delicious. We started out with the grilled marinated green beans, the lemon ricotta ravioli, then moved onto the pan roasted scallops and the pan roasted halibut. Although our server said the dishes could be shared, we were so hungry we should've ordered a dish per person. Our dessert was a panna cotta with rhubarb and strawberries. Quite delicious. Service was excellent.

Great Small Restaurant in Seattle

By JandJfromAR |

Great restaurant. Very small neighborhood restaurant, but well thought out menu, and well executed food. Staff was great. I enjoyed watching the chef in the open kitchen.

Great food

By carlossantistevan |

Each time I come tomEeattle I eat at MKT and always come out very happy with the quality of food and service. Er usually eat a the Chef's counter.

Great little place, fine food, good atmosphere, not for the claustrophobic

By Docstone1 |

Booked during Seattle Restaurant week. Reservation messed up so no seats when we arrived in a small, hot, bustling joint. Excellent recovery by the wait staff: swift free glass of wine and seated in 15 minutes. Limited menu of interesting and well prepard choices, solid wine list. Good value, well worth the minor inconvenience.

Lovely food, cozy restaurant. Go!

By DJDofKIRK |

We had a great meal at Mkt. Five dishes in all, which were shared. Loved the green beans and squash fritters as appetizers. We had the lamb, ravioli and slow roasted vegetable salad, all perfectly done and spot on!. Ended with the grapefruit sorbet. The servers and chef were friendly and helpful. This has been my favorite Ethan Stowell restaurant to date. We will be going back!

Small restaurant, small plates, delicious!

By Seattle98101 |

I really like "small plates" style dining, and this tiny neighborhood spot does a great job. The menu is limited and changes seasonally, but we always find something we like, even though we're not too adventurous. There are perhaps two dozen seats, close together, so reservations are advised and it's more cozy than private/romantic. The green beans are always on the menu and a must-have for us, very simple but flavorful and crisp. the dahi vada fritters were interesting but I probably wouldn't order again, the grilled wagyu beef is delicious (could do with a bit less pepper). The surprise star of this visit was the carrot puree accompanying the lamb shank - I'm not even a big vegetable fan, but I was wanting to lick the plate, it was so rich and velvety. Our excellent servers not only brought me an extra scoop, they gave me the ingredients list - not sure I can recreate it, but I really appreciated it. A 20% service charge is automatically added to the bill, and they deserve it. Not a cheap meal (two small main dishes + 2 sides, a dessert, and 4 glasses of wine came to $190 including the tip) but very enjoyable. Oh, and they hand out little packets of fresh homemade pasta as a thank-you on your way out the door!

very very cool - but difficult

By abearfellow |

so, really good restaurants in the greenlake/university area are problematic. eva, blue water, luau, mona's came, were incredible and then disappeared. if one looks for the combination of a great bar and a great meal, it is just frustrating. (and, by saying "a great meal" i become somewhat tongue-tied because, how do you define a brussel sprout/bacon appetizer, or a seafood pancake, or a very good mushroom/sausage pizza while the other diner is getting salmon or halibut or great pork.) getting the killer mix of a meal that a traditional diner would want and the meal that a grazer would want is ... tricky. ok. end of the prelude. i think, having been frustrated by the 'good' places going away, i can safely say, based on one visit, that this place has it exactly right. the place is tiny. reserve, reserve, reserve. the bar part of the equation - for cocktails - is a little limited. this would bring my rating down to 4.6 :). but the wine list is very very very good. interesting selections and a range of prices that are within wallingford affordability. the food is perfect. seriously. i only pray to whatever god listens to my prayers that they get a bit bigger and that they hang in there for a long time. oh, damn, now you'll want to go there and i'll have a harder time getting in........merde.

Outstanding

By UKLass09 |

Not sure what item was the best - we couldn't decide between the English Pea Risotto or the scallops. With seating for about 30 the dinning experience was intimate and exceptional Can't wait to go back

Great food in a tiny, tiny intimate space

By Charles M |

Great food in a tiny, tiny intimate space. Super friendly service. Grilled green bean appetizer is to die for. I had the Wagyu beef which of course was wonderful. My wife had the trout which was nicely herbed. Waiter gamely de-boned it at the table. Good wine list.

don't miss it

By Hubert H |

A very small place but the food is just great. You feel every dish is hand-crafted with a lot of care and attention is given to each detail of the dish. Were we just lucky? But the place was always full and our table occupied as soon as we left. Better make a reservation;

Great tasting menu!

By Febe |

We went to mkt and ordered a series of dishes to share. They were all very good. Our favorite was the steak tartare, however, the scallops, squash, beets, and fish were also very good. The service was pleasant, they knew all about the menu and made good recommendations. A great meal that was enjoyed by all in the party. The restaurant is quite small and therefore I would recommend reservations.

so good

By rashelle m |

I love this restaurant. the food is simple but tasty. the cocktails are innovative and not overly expensive.

Great food - tiny portions

By teleschred |

Stopped at this restaurant before heading down to Carmel for the weekend. As big fan's of Ethan's restaurants, my wife and I were excited to try out this new place in the neighborhood where we used to live. We sat at the "Chef's counter" and had fun talking to the chef. We ordered 2 first plates and 2 entrees. The food was great - but the portions were crazy small. I think the beet salad had about 8 small pieces of beet and covered about 1/8 of the plate in an artistic curve - tasty but more like a sampler than a salad. Service was great, atmosphere was lively and fun, but for the $ would have liked to had more substantial portions. I wasn't looking for olive garden portions - but having eaten at 3 high end restaurants in Carmel just after eating at mkt. - I was reminded of how small the portions were. The restaurants in Carmel all had excellent food, great service, tons of ambience and portions that were respectable. Go for the experience, just know you need to order more than you think.

Excellent Small Plates in Small Place

By Pamela A O |

Ethan Stowell has opened this tiny small plates restaurant in the Tangletown district of Seattle. There is an excellent selection of interesting and tasty small plates, meat, fish, foul, and vegetables. Three of us shared the carrot ravioli, the fried green beans with tarragon, black cod, and a vegetable tagine. Everything was delicious. We also shared a peach sorbet with salted shortbread cookies for dessert. The cookies were out of this world, as was the sorbet. Service is good. We'll definitely be back. A couple of cautions (and the only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars, not 5): this is not the best restaurant for a hot day, because there's no air conditioning and unless you can get outdoor seating or be seated close to the door, you'll boil. Also, the least desirable table in the restaurant is the last one, next to the restroom door. Be sure to ask that you not be seated there. Reservations highly recommended.

Very small but great!

By Amongolian |

It is a very small place but foods and services are awesome. They cook the dishes based on your time. It is very impressive how they do it. Meals are very tasty! It is little bit too close to your neighbors.

Nice intimate restaurant

By Jani_Vladi |

The restaurant has 28 seats and its very intimate environment. Due to the limited amount of space I would recommend reservation always. ll food is prepared fresh on the spot. The service was prompt. The food was delicious. they have some interesting items like Rabbit and Quail. The portion sizes are pretty good. our server recommend 2-3 dishes per person if we want to have complete meal. We started with soup and salad. We order one soup and one salad and they brought enough silverware so we both can eat soup and salad. We also got their ravioli to share. At that point we were full :) However we ordered Burger and Wagyu steak so we did not want to cancel that. The dinner portions are pretty good - Wagyu steak was 7 OZ. At the end we tried the Pine nut cake which was delicious.Great place for dinner night out or a date. The do add 20% to your check BEFORE tax, so pretty much you are getting taxed on your TIP. Interesting concept but I guess this is where all food establishments are going with Seattle min wage laws.

Great food

By Valerie V |

We looked up the restaurants on yelp and chose this one. walked in to get a bar seating (it's a tiny place - I recommend calling in advance if you can). The food was great: interesting menu options. good for sharing.

Localvore love.

By washington_wahine |

I'm making it my personal summer goal to eat through each one of Ethan Stowell's restaurants. I like his fresh, creative approach to food mixed with his memory to tradition. Of the four restaurants of his that we've tried (some several times), Mkt is the one that showcases what is being harvested now in Seattle. Dishes are prepared simply, with great attention to quality of ingredients and purity of taste. It's how I wish I could cook after a morning wandering the farmer's market. Mkt, btw, does not refer to Market, but to the neighborhood "Meridian, Keystone, Tanglewood". My only negative - servings are very small, so when they say they are meant for sharing, don't believe them.

amazing

By Roman J |

great small plates. locally sourced choice ingredients prepared amazingly well. A bit crowded and tight but well worth it!

Would have been 5 stars, but some dishes were too salty....

By Erin H |

This was a really cute 28 seat restaurant in a hip area of Seattle. The service and ambiance were spectacular. My husband and I started off with a bottle of Oregon Rose and the cheese "snack". The cheese and quince were delicious, but I could have taken the toast it was served with without salt. Next, we had the pumpkin fritters. The homemade pesto sauce was tasty, but the fritters had too much salt to eat more than one. Next, we had my favorite dish, the mushroom ravioli. I don't even like eating mushrooms by themselves, but I could have eaten two of these servings myself! The next dish was the Wagyu beef with fingerling potatoes. The beef was superb; the potatoes were over salted, but had potential because they tasted like the wood fired grill. If they were salted less, they would be amazing. Finally, we finished with the goat cheese stuffed pasta. All and all, this place has a lot of potential, but they just need to dial back the salt.

Nice place in an off location

A bit in the outskirts of Seattle. Nice contemporary interior. Service was quite bad, unattentive and uninterested. Apart from the "waterboy" - he was very accommodating and warm. Fopd was OK but a bit overpriced.

Very Solid Cuisine and Service

This is my second visit to an Ethan Stowell restaurant, and we had a wonderful birthday dinner for my daughter. We dined on a Sunday night, and Mkt was busy. The restaurant is small and tables a bit tight, but the atmosphere was great. On warm days they can open the front as well. I started with the Nettle Goat Cheese Fritters (kinda weird because Nettles are a name for Jelly Fish in the east) and they were awesome. Good starter for two. My daughter started with two Oysters, and moved on to Smoked Sockeye Salmon, which she loved. We both had the Wagyu Beef, which although tasty, was ordered medium rare, and sat prior to being served. Potatoes were piping hot, but the beef had just a bit of warmth. Mentioned it to the server, but there was no real reaction. If I ordered this again, I would order medium, as it was closer to rare than medium rare. Overall a really good meal, but the lack of warmth in the beef was unfortunate. How to Cook a Wolf (his restaurant in Upper Queen Anne) provides more taste experiences with its small plate theme.

Ethan's Stowell's Mkt. is Tiny but Mighty!

We had dinner with some good friends a week or so ago... We do not call ourselves "foodies," but we're kinda foodies. We were planning to visit Staple & Fancy but couldn't find a time and day that would work for all of us, so we wound up defaulting to Mkt. I can honestly say I hadn't even heard of it... and when I looked into it and determined it was a tiny 28-seat venue in a tiny residential neighborhood just south of Greenlake, I was a little nervous. It has a pretty limited menu of Italian-based fare made with primarily local ingredients. But we're adventurous, so off we went! First off, it IS tiny. Tables are close together. We are a boisterous group, so apologies to our co-diners, but WE had a great time... Hope you did, too! The menu, while a little limited, offers a wide range of deliciousness. Our little table of 4 tried most of it: Grilled Greenbeans (amazing), Steak Tartare (delicious - even if the egg was already mixed in), Roasted Beets & Wheat Berries (who knew?!), Grilled Carrots (sweet and delicious), Cauliflower (roasted to perfection), Polenta Fritters (the best thing EVER!), Burrata (nothing bad about Burrata), Duck Confit (my hubby said it was delicious), Grilled Black Peppercorn Wagyu Beef (yummy), and Papperdelle with Beef Ragout (finally - the pasta!!!)! It was all delicious! The craft cocktails were spot on, and the wine selection is very good and much appreciated by most of our table (I am not a wine drinker - I know, I know). Desserts were delightful as well, chocolate pot de creme, pumpkin cheesecake and lovely and refreshing sorbet. The staff was impeccable and thoughtful. The kitchen team was amazing, too! We felt welcome in our casual Saturday evening clothes, and with the cozy experience. We all shared favorite restaurants in cities around the country as one of the staff was heading off to Chicago for a foodie weekend. We look forward to going back for lasagna night - that seems like a MUST. Service is family-style so be sure to get what you want before the other's get to it! It's not cheap. But it's SO worth it.

Everything was perfect

We happened to be in Seattle during restaurant week, and had an opportunity to have the special selections from the menu. The two wines we tried from the specials menu were very good and at a reasonable price. The duck confit salad was a taste treat. All the main courses were great. It is a small restaurant. Be sure to make a reservation.

Spontaneous evening

My husband and I were lucky enough to be given another couple's reservation in April during Restaurant week. We stopped in for the most amazing three course dinner! Service, attentive; cuisine, fresh and unique; experience, perfect for the best random date night ever. We will happily return! My husband and I have tried other Ethan Stowell restaurants and this is our new favorite, reservations recommended as the venue is small but well worth the experience.

One of the best ever dining experiences

By Schwick |

This was our first time here but it will not be our last. Everyone was professional and made us feel like we were the only ones in the restaurant. Five of us shared eleven plates plus two desserts family style. The crispy duck leg, the pork tenderloin, the handkerchief pasta with shrimp, the beef tartare, the grilled green beans, the pear and watercress salad . . . Well you get the idea. Everything was great. Our waiter's name was Seth and he was a real pro but so was everyone who worked there. We have been in Seattle for a week and eaten at six exceptional restaurants but this one topped them all. Oh, and save room for a great wine list and desserts. We had the chocolate terrine and the dulce panna cotte. Amazing. We will be back next time we are in Seattle. Don't miss out on an exceptional dining experience!

Lovely

I booked a table at this lively, casual foodie eatery for my husband's 64th birthday. The restaurant could not have been more conscientious -- they called to confirm, they called to let me know the flowers I had ordered for my husband weren't there yet, and they were lovely about the fact that I got there a half hour late for our reservation. They also gave my husband a pretty wonderful birthday gift of fresh (and delicious) homemade pasta, and per his request refrained from singing happy birthday to him. The hostess gave me a genuine and appreciated hug on the way out, too. See, they are lovely. I DO recommend reservations, at this and every other Ethan Stowell restaurant. On the Monday night we were there, every other seat was taken. In terms of service and food, everything was top notch. We were dazzled from the amuse-bouche forward. We ate the charred brussels sprouts, the asparagus, the nettle ravioli, and the remarkable ling cod, and it was all wonderful, as was the rhubarb dessert. We want to check out all of Stowell's other restaurants, but I would be very glad to make a return visit to this one too.

Lovely intimate restaurant

I went with my husband to celebrate out anniversary. Some friends recommended us the place. It is a small restaurant, so it is recommended to make a reservation. Food is great as well as service! Plates are small so you need to have around + dessert to be full.

Worth the time to find this place in Tangletown

By Kathy S |

The weather was beautiful the night we dined at Mkt, and we were seated on the sidewalk side of the table at the open window. We shared the table with 3 other couples, but it was big enough to allow for privacy, if we so desired. We enjoyed talking with our table-mates though, and comparing our menu choices. The atmosphere was fun and lively. It seemed like a popular neighborhood spot. Service was friendly and very attentive. The food was tasty. We had two appetizers - lemon green beans and the zucchini and squash fritters. Both nicely presented, and flavorful. We had scallops and the wagyu beef as our main courses. Portions are small, as has been mentioned in another review, but nicely presented, and easy to share. We also shared the sweet potato gnocchi. Everything was delicious. Nice wine selections, at reasonable per-glass prices. I loved the red wine from Sablet. For dessert we shared the chocolate mousse with cacao nibs, which was great. All-around, the meal was great, and it was nice to taste so many of the dishes and not feel totally stuffed at the end of the meal. We'd go back!

Mixed results, but overall good

By Steve G |

On a recent trip back up to Seattle, my wife and I met some friends here for dinner. This is a little tiny place, so reservations would be a good idea. The waiter explained that the food was really meant for sharing, so we all ordered something with the intent of sharing. However, I ordered the wagyu beef and after the first bite I was not so interested in letting people have too much of it. Really good. My wife had the burger, which was also very good. My friend had the gnocchi and it was just ok. That was the only "bad" meal we had there. His wife had the ceviche, which I don't care for in general, so I can't comment on the quality. It was not the cheapest place in town, and it was hot in side (it was hot outside, too). But I would consider going back.

Super Cuisine in Tangletown!

By Michael V |

We don't get to MKT often enough, as between its small size and popularity dining there takes considerable planning ahead. That said we recently got in early on a weekday evening and were amply rewarded. The resident server, Ani, remembered us and made us feel right at home with a warm return greeting. We ordered a very nice bottle of dry white from the Touraine which nicely complimented our meal. We split three dishes, oysters, tuna crudo and a ricotta and mushroom stuffed ravioli and then each went our own ways with a generous crab salad and a deep fried tempura quail. Every dish was a culinary delight, well presented and flavorful. We need to return to this tiny neighborhood gem more often.

Exceptional food and service

By seattleshoedawg |

On Election night, we wanted to dine out, but we hadn't made reservations and decided to revisit a favorite Sushi place. Alas, it was closed but this proved fortuitous as right across the street is mkt where we had had the pleasure to dine just once before during this past Summer. We had really enjoyed our first meal there, but were not hopeful about getting in without said reservation. Of course, no problem (there is an advantage to being on the early side), we were happily seated right away. Our server we remembered from our first visit because he was exceptional and made even more so because he remembered us as well- with precise and distinct anecdotes from our first visit- so he was genuine. Ethan Stowell continues to NOT disappoint- and a key ingredient to us for any successful restaurant is consistency, on top of great cuisine- food that is unique and terrific service. This place has all of this in spades. The food: for starters, crispy fried quail with tangy apricot sauce and potato puree followed by pickled carrots, eggplant and cauliflower pieces accompanied with a fennel aioli- that got our appetites revved. Roasted cauliflower soup with lightly truffled lobster mushrooms was eye-rollingly delicious. This soup had us recalling a Golden Bisque with Mussels that we still remember from a wonderful place in Montreal- La Loux- alas, no longer there. I digress, but it's powerful when a dish will summon up past wonderful dishes and let your palate enjoy what it's currently eating. Into main entrees, we savored both our Pork Loin with roasted brussels sprouts and lardoons tweaked with a savory piquillo pepper sauce and shared a Niman Ranch beef tenderloin with crispy cippollini onions and delicate gnocchi. Mouthwatering. We are not waiting so long to go back again and we will be sure to make reservations.

Delicious dinner!

I'm an ESR fan, so I fully recognize some bias. However, I'm a fan because the food and service is consistently great. Dinner at Mkt last night was delightful and delicious. The six of us shared the buratta, olives, polenta fritters and bread with our starter drinks. Loved both the fritters and the buratta!! While we ordered our own dishes for dinner, we were given plates so we could share, which was wonderful. We enjoyed the Frank the Tank wine with dinner... three bottles worth! This spot isn't as convenient for us to get to, so we may stick to the ESR moccasins which are close to home. But if we're in this neighborhood, we'll definitely pop in!

Neighborhood gem!

By ferspratt |

I really wanted to keep this place a secret, but it is just too good not to share. We have been here 5 times in the last 3 years and we absolutely love it. Their menu changes often which keeps us coming back. They also have events along with local breweries and wineries. Best tip is to plan ahead: the place is small so the reservation wait can be long, but trust me, it is worth the wait!

Delish dinner, stellar service, and intimate atmosphere!

By LisaTravelsAndEats |

Fantastic dinner last night at mkt! Our party of 4 shared the olives, green beans, hush puppies, mushroom ravioli, mac & cheese, scallops, salmon, burger, and wagyu beef, and *everything* was amazing. None of us had a single disappointing bite! We also shared a couple of desserts (some sort of chocolate-pudding-esque concoction and a raspberry tart) and enjoyed some local beers and the house margaritas - and they were divine as well. Beyond the food, the intimate setting of this 28-seat restaurant was perfect for a catch-up among friends who hadn't seen each other in months, and the servers were very impressive and charming/funny. Great experience, would absolutely return (and try some of ES's other spots)!

Mkt is bst

Wow - surprisingly good for a neighborhood place! Chef Alvin brought the goods! From the grilled radicchio salad to the Japanese black cod and the Wagyu beef, each dish was terrific. You order 2-3 plates per person and share. Lots of amazing tastes and lots of fun. Small, relaxed and casual - even on a Saturday night. Just doesn't get any better than this. Highly recommended!

Limited seating. There were 4 of us and we shared several smallish dishes. Every bite was outstanding

Top in Seattle

By Clare H |

Mkt has moved its way to being one of the top restaurants in Seattle right now. The flavour exudes from each dish, the creativity of design, and the extensiveness of the wine list, beats out many of the 'typical' fine dining go to's. There is really nothing better than a sunny day, the open garage door, and the quiet but excitable atmosphere that Mkt serves up.

Small Space, Big Flavors, Made with Love

By Nelson J |

Mkt. is a cozy N. Seattle eatery that is part of the Ethan Stowell Restaurant group. We lucked out with space for two on a rare Friday night when it wasn’t jammed. Apparently the super hot weather keeps folks away. Lucky for us! We shared an amazing celery salad with almonds and Manchego cheese, polenta fritters and buttery pasta that was terrific. The staff were SO AMAZING - sharing various cooking tips and suggestions for various food prep techniques. We loved sitting at the chef bar to get an up-close view of the incredible love and care that goes into every dish at Mkt. With just 28 seats, you’ll want to call ahead for a reservation. Once there, if you’re observant, you’ll notice the seamless teamwork that the two chefs and three floor staff display. They do it all, including mixing drinks and washing dishes! One of the most enjoyable and memorable dining experiences we’ve enjoyed in years.

Nice Neighborhood Bistro

By Carol_R99SO |

Excellent service. Two of us arrived with a 6:30 reservation, did not leave until after 10 p.m., and there was no pressure to turn the table over. I particularly like that you are offered either still or sparkling water. We split a nettle-goat cheese fritter snack, a lemon ricotta ravioli vegetable, and two entrees--the roasted lamb shank and the grilled wagyu beef. We each had a glass of wine and a rhubarb tart for dessert. With tax and tip it was $150. The food was wonderful, the service was warm and friendly, but it felt like just another notch in the belt of everything being overpriced in Seattle. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket, go for it! You won't be disappointed.

Great food near Green Lake

By K T |

MKT and Rione XIII are some of my favorite restaurants in Seattle. MKT is located near Green Lake, so it's a bit far from downtown. Too far to walk from DT, so you need to drive, or take taxi/uber. It's a very popular place and relatively small, so be sure to make a reservation. One of the best food experience in Seattle.

Darn near perfect

By Flycasterwa |

Walking into the place is like being welcomed into a friends home. Small, warm, inviting and the smell of applewood make you feel instantly at ease. We visited last night with friends had had a great experience. The staff and food are excellent. Flavors in each dish perfectly balanced and proportioned to compliment fresh ingredients, veggies, pastas, meats and fish. We had just about one plate of everything and nothing was weak. Superb value as well and we were surprised at the cost vs. the experience. Just go check it out, we have been to most all of Ethan's places and agree this is the tops.

Tiny and Terrific

By Rumples |

This outstanding 28-seat restaurant near Green Lake offers small plates to share that are notches above any others I've eaten in places with a similar approach. My husband and I joined another couple here on a Friday night for dinner and it proved to be one of the best I've had worldwide. Each dish offered high-quality, fresh ingredients, blended and flavored in such a way that the first bite evoked sighs of delight and positive comments at our table. We found everything to be so good that it would have been impossible to rank our choices in terms of preference. The contemporary American menu is divided into categories, such as vegetables, fish, pastas and grains, etc. Servers encourage diners to consider ordering two to three dishes per person at the table to ensure enough food for everyone. The four of us opted for only seven dishes plus dessert and found that to be sufficient. Each dish arrives when prepared. Thus, the entire order does not arrive at the same time. We chose grilled and marinated green beans, winter squash, steamed black cod, herb-crusted lamb shank, pork tenderloin with black figs, beet fregola salad and porcini ricotta ravioli. Two people shared a dessert and the other two had individual portions. With two glasses of wine and the 20 percent service charge added to a tab here, the total bill came to $235. Though a bit higher than what we normally pay to dine out, I thought that this was a fair price for what we received. All the servers with whom we interacted were knowledgeable, professional and pleasant. They looked after us beautifully, in an unobtrusive way. We could not have asked for more. The small space holds a few wooden tables in a line with a bench on one side and little vanity-type stools without much back support on the other. Dining space is also available at two counters -- one by the bar and another opposite by a window that overlooks the street. Though the restaurant became full quickly after we arrived at 5:30 p.m., the noise level was surprising low. I initially thought that Mkt stood for Market. But I now know that it stands for Meridian (traditional name of the neighborhood), Keystone Building (its location) and Tangletown (current name for neighborhood). We easily found parking in the immediate vicinity. Reservations are highly recommended for this extremely popular restaurant.

Exceptional food and drink

By FuzzyBeaver |

This restaurant is tiny with an open kitchen. This gives a great ambiance to the restaurant. However, the big draw is the exceptional food. We had 4 small dishes plus 3 mains. Each dish was wonderful and we would happily repeat each one. Having said that, the stand-out dishes were the green beans and the gnocchi pasta. The wine list is extremely well curated and very large for the size of the restaurant. Thee provided fabulous wine recommendations for the various courses. Service was really good as well. Definitely a restaurant to keep returning to.

Sharing Encouraged

By jcisler |

This is a small restaurant where reservations are taken and probably encouraged. Walk up seating may be available if you don't mind a picnic bench. We had reservations for 4, that my daughter, the foodie, made several days in advance. We shared a wide range of dishes tasting foods I had not before tried. It was enjoyable, well presented, hot out of the kitchen (which was directly behind my bench seat), and delicious. I would certainly return.
