Being a Mexican food connoisseur. .. ejem, this place is spot on, prices are on the top of mexican food but reasonable enough for the quality of the food and attention of the servers. Mexican sodas on menu for $2.00 Bring your own wine /beer

Amazing lunch spot with large portions. The service was fantastic - super attentive and friendly. Delicious everything.

We arrived half an hour before the kitchen closed and still received excellent service and some of the best mole we've had in years. Highly recommend!

This is a wonderfully authentic mexican place to eat. The food is good and fair priced. Staff are really nice. You can order in english or spanish. We get carry out a lot.

Authentic Mexican food. Nice restaurant with a great menu. Perfect for lunch or dinner. Very affordable

This small (3 rows of tables in a small storefront space) restaurant on 9th St. in the area of the former Italian Market is part of the area's growing Mexican scene. An encouraging sign was that the staff was Mexican and the few patrons there on a week day mid-afternoon were Mexican as well. We sampled the Mole Enchiladas and were not disappointed. Delicious mole sauce was one of the best I've had in the area. The guacamole we had as a starter was rich and creamy with a touch of heat and onion. The carnitas tacos were stuffed with tender, flavorful pork cubes....delicious! This is a BYOB and the waitress easily accomodated our margaritas. The menu expands considerably on the weekends when I understand it can be packed. However, we've marked this little hideaway gem for a repeat visit to enjoy a quiet, unhurried, sampling of some really authentic and wonderful Mexican food.

went for a snack and ended up eating. food is nice and fresh service is fine but a little quiet very very clean. prices are kind on the upper hands but worth .. in South philly. 5 stars.

I am from Mexico, so trust me when I say this is Authentic Mexican Food. Place is small. Large portions and fair prices. We are definitely coming back

Ate there in Jan. 9, 2018 on recommendation of our daughter who lives nearby. Was not disappointed at all. The restaurant is small, clean, the service friendly and the food was delicious. We went for breakfast. I had huevos rancheros. Plenty of food. We'd go again when visiting Philly.

We'd seen a very positive review of this place, describing it as just a cut above the typical tacqueria in the Italian Market area. Based on what we were served - a fish dish and a phenomenal mole enchilada platter - I'd call it superb. The flavors are rich and intense. The decor is a definitely a step above the competitors, but nothing fancy. Prices are very moderate and it's BYOB, so you can get out of here with a ton of delight and minimal damage. A must-visit for Mexican food lovers.

My family and I came down to the Italian Market on a Sunday just to try their tamales. I read several reviews online about this restaurant having the best ones in the city. It was absolutely true. I ordered mole enchiladas and my husband had the tacos al pastore. All around exceptional food. 100% homemade. Great and attentive server. Could not have enjoyed it more. If you are in the Italian Market on a Sat. or Sun. you MUST have one of their tamales. Go early as they sell out quickly, and they are only made on weekends. A definite must try.

Stumbled onto this amazing restaurant by accident while visiting our daughter @ college. We came in search of another restaurant in the area that was no longer open and decided to have Mexican!! We walked in because it was the only Mexican restaurant on the street that had a lot of people. Good indication! I was raised in Mexico as a kid and my expectations of authentic food are always high… The food was absolutely amazing!! Authentic, portions were large, food was fresh, the staff was very attentive, professional and friendly. We ordered tacos(tongue & steak), flautas, and ribs with beans and cactus salad. Guacamole was delicious too!! Only regret is not having ordered mole or tamales which by reading the reviews now seem to be their specialty. Will definable be back

Food was delicious and inexpensive. For 4 people with appetizers, our meals and the tip was less than $100. Food was very tasty and service was good.

Fantastic fresh authentic Hispanic food. Delicious and huge chicken soup, great huevos rancheros. Helpful service. Mostly Spanish speaking customers not a surprise. Must try in the Italian market.

Mole poblano is the best known mole sauce, and Mole Poblano serves the best I have ever had. Normally my spouse and I might have split a couple of entrees, but both of us went for the enchiladas with mole poblano. If we had not got stuffed, we would each have eaten all four. The chicken enchiladas were excellent, and the sauce was to die for with a complexity of flavours that was never cloying. One of our companions went for the chicken with mole poblano and didn't come up for air until he was done. The service was very friendly. BYOB if you choose, but you might want to buy it ahead, since the local bottle shop does not have an extensive selection.

authentic mole poblano made from scratch (as I was informed when I asked about it) The service was more than great I will definetly come back

I love this place! Their mole poblano dish is great, the breakfasts are good, and eggs always cooked so perfectly! The Tortas are a flavorful, rich, spicy, delicious work of art, with layer after layer adding a new a different piece of flavor. They are always open early, smiling, happy staff inviting you inside even as they're opening the restaurant themselves! You can smell and taste the freshness first thing in the morning when they are pureeing their salsas, and it is delicious! The salsa verde, as fresh as it can be, verdant, crisp, a little acidic such great flavor to add to anything. The salsa roja, much smokier, a bolder, spicier flavor if you prefer. Mainly, I just wanted to say these are hands down, without a doubt, the best local tamales. (Only on weekends, but worth the trip... and go early because they're popular).

One of the best meals I have ever had in a Mexican restaurant in Philadelphia. This is the real deal, authentic Mexican. The place is a small mom and pop restaurant that scores a big 10. The food is amazing, you can tell from the flavors, the food is homemade using old, family recipes passed down. Everything everyone ordered was fantastic and bursting with great Mexican tastes and spices. The place is a BYOB and the minute you are seated a basket of tortilla chips and homemade salsas are presented to you. There is a mild and a hot version that a sinful. You keep eating, eating and don’t realize that you have finished it. Of course, they pay attention and you are immediately provide more chips and salsa. The portions are huge and more than plenty to share and have for leftovers. A must try is the Enchiladas de Mole. There are 4 enchiladas rolled up with chicken and smothering in a homemade mole sauce that are serviced with rice and re-fried beans. The torta’s are on huge homemade bread that is soft, fresh and oh so good. So many options to choose but we tired the Chorizo and it was to die for, simply delicious. There are many authentic Mexican dishes to try and weekend specials the they constantly offer. Great food, for a great price. I could eat here every day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served.

I stumbled upon this place while looking for a parking spot. There was a steady stream of people in the area. Decided to take a look at the menu. The space was crowded and I opted to take my meal outside. I was looking for a new place with shrimp tacos. The tacos were amazing! They don't skimp on the shrimp. The flavors of the spicy mayo and cilantro meld into pure happiness. I ended up ordering more to take home (just as good the next day). On Sat/Sun they offer a complimentary chips with black bean creme app or apple/peach dessert. The chips were awesome! Servers were very attentive. I can't wait to go back.

This is a fantastic place to eat, I loved my experience, prices were right, service was great and at the end you get a little complementary desert. Really cool

The location is in The itlaia Market in Philadelphia. They have authentic Mexican food, very tasty and good value.

A previous visitor shared their experience of eating at Mole Poblano during a birthday party Dinner. I could not wait to visit. I had the Pescado Frito (I think this means fried fish); I had the garlic and sauce on the side, (maybe that is why I found the fish a little too crispy), or maybe that is how it was supposed to be done. I enjoyed it along with a fruit punch soda. I tasted the chicken mole enchilada (my first time), I am gonna stick my regular chocolate bars. The person who ordered it, loved it. The restaurant setting is very simple, reminds me of a eating/take out ( with a few table inside and outside. Very clean. Seems to be family run. Our waiter was very pleasant (extremely apologetic when he forgot to take our orders); we very understanding, it was a very busy afternoon for them. Our meals cost less than $45 for two. When I go back I’ll try something less traditional ( hopefully).

Very reasonable prices, an extensive menu, delicious food and charming servers make this a great choice for Mexican food in the Italian Market area. We loved or steak sopas, pork tacos, chicken mole enchiladas and the fried potato taco app. Open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner, a few steps up into establishment so I would check regarding wheelchair accesibility.

Mole Poblano is a 24-seat gem of a restaurant located on 9th Street, south of Washington Avenue in the Italian Market that serves wonderful food including splendid tamales, tacos, tort as, enchiladas and full platters that are some of the best in the city. Service is efficient and friendly. There is no liquor license so you can bring your own alcoholic beverages if you care to do so. They serve various Mexican drinks like Horchata and a nice selection of jugos and Jarritos flavors. There is a special page of the menu that list items that are prepared only on Saturdays and Sundays that lists a variety of fish dishes and even Rack of Lamb. Very reasonably priced. No one will go away hungry and you'll be sure to want to return here as soon as you can.

We stopped in at this place for a small bite to eat and were so impressed. The enchiladas moles were delicious- some of the best mole sauce we have had. Service was excellent- although we did not order drinks and only shared an entree, we were offered complimentary items and asked if we wanted the chef to divide and plate our entree in the kitchen. We felt like we had a great lovely night out ! Six stars for service!

We were headed for a Philly steak sandwich when we passed this little interesting restaurant with outside seating and about 6 or 7 tables inside. From the moment we sat down til we paid the bill we enjoyed our dining experience. The food was authentic Mexican and delicious. The service was outstanding, our waiter warm and charming and patient with our questions. Chips with homemade salsa, Verde sauce and poblano sauce plus a creamy compote was complementary. So if you like Mexican food, don't head to Pat's or Geno 's. Stop at Mole Poblano's.
Help Wanted
Although there was only one other party, who already had their food, it took annoyingly too long for two simple breakfasts to arrive; furthermore our waitress seemed to disappear into the kitchen for long periods of time; so that at one point I had to get up to look for her. Maybe that's the reason there's a help wanted sign in the window. Still the perfectly scrambled & very spicy Huevos a la Mexicana-w/ onion/tomato/jalapeno-served w/ rice, refried beans & a pile of warm tortillas, were worth the wait. My date ordered Jamon a la Mexicana, a generous serving of razor thin slices of ham w/ the usual suspects & we mixed & matched which proved a tasty combo. With Saturday & Sunday specials, including seafood, the bilingual menu is extensive; so if you've a yen for good Mexican food & don't mind waiting, while shopping at the nearby Italian (really now more Latino) Market, this is a worthwhile stop.
