The best restaurant for a late night out in Capitol Hill. A group of friends were debating where to go at 12:00 AM and we decided to give it a try to sushi at Momiji. Their rolls are really good and pretty creative, great combination of flavors. We also tried some gyozas and the octopus carpaccio. All excellent and incredible fast and friendly service. I am a new fan of Momiji!

We visited at 10:30 pm - so we took advantage of the late night happy hour. You can't beat these prices. And the sushi - no words! Best I ever had. We also loved their spicy tofu and tomatoes dish ( went back for seconds), their poke and other fun late night menu items.

Really great food and worth a visit, the quality of the sushi is very good and beautifully presented. The atmosphere is slightly dull, however the staff are really helpful.

Exactly what I wanted after flying for 6 hours. The sushi and drinks were delicious. Try out the wolf girl!

Definitely not the best restaurant I've been to but definitely not the worst. This place was very expensive with very average sushi. We got a few rolls to share and really only liked one of them. Service was slow. Would recommend trying a different place if you are looking for sushi

This was our first time visiting. When we walked and put our name down to wait the 20-30 minutes we had no idea the tables in the bar were first come first serve. We waited and waited and finally figured it out. We were offered 2 seats at the bar and settled in. We ordered WAY too much food but it was all so good. Their rolls are huge! Only bummer was the timing. Everything came out one at a time and I almost cancelled my last roll because it took so long.

The food was great and so is the ambiance. Overall, the reason why this got 4 stars and not 5 is because the service is a little slow and it was loud.

I was here with some friends for happy hour. We first had a drink at the bar and then moved to the very back behind the beautiful garden. Service was great. The Happy Hour menu was great. We will be back again!

Relaxed yet elegant place for dinner. Wide variety of sushi and inventive cocktails. The location was beautiful with some tables located in a Japanese-style 'garden' in the center of the restaurant.

Everyrhing is delicious. We were a big group so we ordered most appetizers and this place is beyond good. Seattle has a great food scene and this the proof! :)

Loved my visit here. Not cheap but moderately priced for sushi in Seattle. Great ambience! I loved their zen-like courtyard although the place is so busy that it’s hard to call it zen-like. Get reservations.

reasonable price, most of our dishes were yummi. seaweed salad and the cheesy sushi were not for us, so I rate good 4 stars, closer to 5

This place was vibrant and exciting. The service was good and friendly even though our server seemed like she could use a bit more knowledge about their sake options. Lots of susshi rolls to choose from and on the night we went they have great specials including uni which tasted just like the ocean!

I’ve been to Momiji a few times. My first 2 experiences were positive. It’s a cool spot for a date or to meet up with friends. The decor is hip and lends to a great atmosphere. The last time I visited in November with 2 friends, we made reservations in advance but they still made us wait 20 minutes to be seated. The hostess was unopolgetic and unfriendly. Once we were finally seated, our server maintained a similar attitude. My friends and I were nice, friendly customers, so it was disappointing to be treated in this manner. Maybe it was an off night.

Not being a sushi fan, I was skeptical about visiting Momiji last night. I was pleasantly surprised to find plenty of other dishes to choose from. The food was delicious and the presentation beautiful. Both the sushi lovers and I were pleased with our meals.

Wife has been here before with her friends and wanted to take me here. We arrived about 15 minutes after 4pm (opening time) and it was slightly busy in the front bar area and back of restaurant. If you're peering through the window, remember there is more than just the front bar area; it extends to the back where the sushi bar is located. More seating and a small closed off garden seen through glass windows on both sides. We had no reservations and the only seating at 4pm was the sushi bar which was fine. I love the food entertainment of the sushi men. Started off with draft Kirin beer and warm sake. Complimentary edamames were presented. That itself is a treat; Never seen a sushi place do that. The menu is about 5 pages catagorized in specialty departments. Raw sushi, Rolls, Fried, Raw Bar, Grilled, and Vegetarian....Yes, they have a vegetarian page which my wife ordered from. The Happy Hour Menu was in effect and so i ordered some raw tuna slices, unagi (eel) and tobiko roe (served in Nigori Roll fashion). Wife had the Tottoroll which was not bad at all. (I'm not a vegetarian). It had grilled Portabello and asparagus topped with roasted red pepper and light drizzle of mango sauce. I had the Casino Royale Roll which the waitress replied her favorite upon ordering. This one came with spicy tuna, avocado, cilantro, cucumber and shishito peppers. Desert was offered which is a selection of various ice creams, mochi, sorbets. We passed. Leaving about 1 1/2 hrs later, the front of restaurant (bar area) was packed. The service was great. The decor and bathrooms (at least the men's) were nice. Very soothing and warming with low lighting and wood surroundings. Please give them a try. Well worth it.

This is a much bigger restaurant than it appears from the outside. The atmosphere is humming and quite pleasant overall. The wait staff were excellent. Moreover the food was fresh, well presented and extremely tasty. We ordered 6 dishes between the two of us, which was more than enough as the portions are generous. It was also not as expensive as we had expected. I would definitely come again.

I especially recommend the sashimi selection. Try to book on the terrace if the weather permits. Good and friendly service

Outstanding decor/atmosphere! Every table seemed to be having a great time. Drinks were quick and delicious- with a good list of sake. Rolls were prepared to perfection and the sashimi was incredibly fresh! There were also a lot of vegetarian/meatless selections including rolls- which is hard to find at any sushi restaurant. Service was as quick as they could make the rolls- which anyone who loves sushi knows, takes a little time if you want quality and freshness. The server was friendly, helpful and fun. Nothing bad about this spot!

I love coming to Momiji whenever I crave sushi. The rolls are inventive and are always fresh-tasting. I always come for happy hour so I find service to be right on point -- never hurried, but attentive. Moreover, the happy hour menu provides a sampling of hot dishes as well as specialty sushi -- and it's much more affordable than the dinner menu.

My family of four was here tonight and had some of the freshest sushi around. The staff was really nice and got us seated immediately. The outside of the restaurant looks totally unassuming, however, the inside is truly awesome. Will return soon!

My daughter had picked this restaurant out. She had been there before, we had a party of four for an early dinner. The restaurant is very nice looking. The food is excellent although I have had better sushi and the service is impeccable. We were a party of four and our bill was $130 for dinner. I would go back there again. Another neat thing is that they have an open kitchen and you can watch them working and they are amazing. Please make sure that you make a reservation.

It's a somewhat Americanized sushi place, but the decor is very relaxing, with the central garden concept. They have a very wide variety of Japanese style food -- we went for Sushi Rolls, and they were great. A huge range of available rolls, and our 4 all had wonderful complex flavors. I don't know a lot about sushi, but the menu here helps you decide what you want. The service was fine for a busy Friday night (with reservation!), and food arrived very quickly. Highly recommended.

The Happy Hour prices and food are great!!! We ordered several rolls and they were very good. We went early with no reservations and I'm glad we did. If you want to go, make reservations!

Located in the heart of Seattle's Capital Hill area of restaurants, bars, clubs, shops and live music. This small, trendy Japanese restaurant focuses on sushi, but has other Japanese as well. Fantastic happy hour and a fantastic ambience. Wide variety of signature sushi rolls that will definitely not disappoint. Also a great selection of sake and sign immature cocktails. Try the Hello Kitty

We had reservations but they were running a little behind which is understandable. Our wait was short and then we immediately started ordering appetizers and then sushi. I ordered the Birds of Paradise and another that I don't recall the name of but it used jalapeno oil and had a lot of heat to it. When ordering know that if it says it will have heat then it most definitely will. One side note, it took a long time to get my 2nd roll of sushi. Not sure if there was a mix up in the kitchen but everyone else's food came out at the same time. No idea what happened there.

We went to Momiji with high hope because of its diverse menu. To that end, we tried to sample across the menu from sushi to roll to cold noodles to grilled dishes. Unfortunately, nothing even approaching good arrived at our table. Nothing was outright bad, but that's about all I can say about the quality of food. I won't ever come back.

So delicious. I ate the first bite of sashimi whole, slowly the texture of the fish fat splashed throughout my mouth bringing along with it the delectable flavor of sashimi. I scarfed down the first round without thought. With every clench of my jaw while chewing I was enjoying every last bit of the flavor. I'd wait in between each piece until the complete flavor had drizzled off of my taste buds. This sushi was that good

We love sushi, but Japanese cooking is so much more than raw fish on rice! So, for our visit (first of what we hope will be many more), we had vegetarian udon noodles and grilled fish, with a simple California roll on the side. I got a bowl of rice to go with my fish, meaning I had a simple "country cooking" meal. The fish was superb, cooked perfectly, and a generous amount. My partner's udon had a tasty broth, fresh vegetables, and well-prepared noodles. The roll had a good helping of real crab. As we missed happy hour by a few minutes, we'll just have to go back and arrive earlier. It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it!

My wife and I had dinner at Momiji in October 2012. We made reservations on OpenTable. We were given a table while drop-ins who arrived jsut before us had to wait a few minutes, so I would encourage the making of advance reservations. The back area of the restaurant contains most of the seating. There are two seating areas around a central courtyard (pictured on their home page). The courtyard is very pretty, in an understated way. It contains a Japanese red maple tree and some other foliage, which provides a nice backdrop to the restaurant's blond-wood interior. The food was superb. My wife ordered the miso cod, and reported it was among the best versions of that dish she's had. I had a chirashi meal, and it too was excellent, with a lot more (and better) fish than I am accustomed to seeing with this item. The server also asked if I had any allergies prior to sending in the order, which was both thoughtful and uncommon. Definitely recommend.

Thankfully we booked a table as on a Saturday night this place was heaving. The queue was way past the door of eager people trying to get in, and their wait would be worth is, this restaurant is exceptional. The exterior looks nothing special and even the front room looks nothing to write home about, but step into the main restaurant out back and WOW. The decor is beautiful, the menu extensive, the service very attentive and the food delicious. Best sushi in Seattle for sure.

Momiji looks like a little nook of a place when you walk up, and the bar area - that is, all of what you see upon entering - confirms this impression. But then back you go into the dining area and it opens up into a little oasis of simple elegance. The service is attentive without being intrusive, quick without hurrying, friendly without pretending to be your long-lost friend. And the food we had was delicious: a bowl of lovely tempura udon and a big appetizer plate of hamachi kama grilled and seasoned to perfection. And a simple but adequate selection of good beers on tap, plus the usual suspects in bottles. My only complaint is about the acoustics of the simple bento box interior design - not a soft surface in the place, so a bit noisy. Makes you lean in over your scrumptious food to hear your friend speak - not entirely a bad thing, anyway.

We arrived right at four and sat in the bar area for Happy Hour. I loved my shrimp tempura roll, spicy tuna roll and garlic ribs. The vibe and price were both on point. I’ll definitely go back for the value.

This is not a Japanese restaurant. Instead, it is an attempt at a hip restaurant with a Japanese influence. The sushi menu includes rolls with mixes of flavors and textures that would make many lovers of traditional sushi uncomfortable. That's perfectly fine as long as you're not expecting authentic sushi. The problem is that they didn't get their traditional sushi right either. The fish in the chirashi sushi was sloppily cut and the rice was a congealed too-sweet lump. The rice for the nigiri sushi had the opposite problem: It was not properly formed and fell apart as soon as it was picked up. The miso soup was too salty and the edamame was tasteless. We went to this restaurant a year ago and enjoyed it, even though we recognized that it is not a true Japanese restaurant. What happened?

The interior of this restaurant is nicely laid out, with an indoor atrium that breaks up the space. So far, so good. The food was so-so. Tempura Vegetables were greasy and bland. A Miso soup with clams was served warm, not hot. Short ribs of beef were nicely seasoned. Service was somewhat less than friendly but efficient. As competitive as Seattle's restaurant scene is, the owner/operator of this establishment would be wise to pay closer attention to detail.

Located in the Capitol Hill district, Momiji is a restaurant that looks very much as if you are eating in Tokyo or Kyoto. The wait staff was very professional and efficient. The dinner menu has a wide range of Japanese dishes, from standard to sushi rolls to very creative combination sushi rolls, great chicken and pork dishes as well as interesting noodle combinations. We had a great time with plenty of food on a cold rainy night in Seattle.

This was the best restaurant we visited on a recent trip to the Capitol Hill area. Made reservations via tripadvisor, which does work thru open table, and it was perfect. The place is super clean and stylish, and has a ton of seating in the back, around a pretty stone garden setting. The service was friendly, informative, and timely, we were lucky to have a server named Hans, and he was great. The portions were big for the money spent, especially for what we expected coming from Maui. Everything we had was quite good, but a few standouts were: spicy king crab leg app, pork ribs app, and I vaguely remember the name of the sushi roll.....dragon something, I believe, but it was panko dusted and fried, with scallops, and it was BOMB. My wife had one of the Shochu cocktails and really liked it, and I had a tequila cocktail with a togarashi rim, and it was super tasty as well. We finished with both green tea and ginger ice creams, and they were both exceptional. All in all, my advice is GO, ORDER LOADS, ENJOY.

Been here 4 times and always enjoy the menu. Patio seting. Service is good. Food presentation is always enticing

What appears to small on the outside is massive on the inside. With a bar and two dining areas separated by a zen courtyard outside, you are invited into their world. The choice of sushi rolls are plenty as well as their extensive drink menu. A highlight is their sake flight. I had never been a fan before until I learned about the different choices amongst sake brands. The service is one of the best in the city. Always helpful with a recommendation and make sure you have what you need. If you need a recommendation on rolls, anything James Bond themed are among their best.

Ate at the bar as the restaurant wait was significant on a busy weeknight. Full service sushi menu and fun, attentive bartenders in an open-air lounge type bar setting. Great sushi / drinks - if a bit on the spendy side.

Grab a seat in the bar area and be prepared to pig out! The happy hour is the time to go. Order a bunch of food and drinks of the happy hour and feast. You won't be disappointed!

When I first walked into Momiji, I thought the bar and handful of tables were it. I was pleasantly surprised when the host led me down the hall and into another part of the restaurant that was spacious and looked out to a Japanese garden. There is another room on the other side of the garden so this restaurant is quite big. It was busy for a Sunday evening, but the staff were quick and efficient. My friend and I had the Ozen sampler and it was so good. I thought the price was reasonable for so much food (miso soup, sashimi, tempura, etc.).

Being vegetarian couple, sushi was something We always avoided. But, looking for nice Italian place to take my wife, looked morning of, o available reservation. Chanced upon this place. Reviews were good, good vegetarian options. Early dinner at 5pm, had to go to another event. Raining, dark, but found parking right across on the street. Hostess was nice, even though we were running 10 minutes late. Not busy at that time, seated right away. Waitress was pleasant and fairly/not entirely attentive. Happy hour, ordered sake it was dry, ok. Had veg Goya steamed dumpling which on first bite was smoky, but the rest were delicious. Then had veg sushi nigiri sampler, veg rolls were excellent, so we're red pepper and mushroom ones, deep fried rice was ok. Asked for Yakiudon noodles with vegetables, waitress tried to convince that the original came with fish sauce tasted much better and not sure if it can be made without. I asked her check as the had a veg mushroom sauté, if the could use the same sauce. She confirmed and we had it, it was good, went we'll wit sriracha sauce. Green tea tiramisu was out of the park, excellent, don't miss. Overall, it's a must go, if you like sushi, suspect regular sushi is good. It was crowded at the end.

Great place to visit for an amazing happy hour. There's a big selection of dishes and a lively atmosphere that makes you want to keep ordering.

We had to try twice for this place as we failed to make a reservation our first attempt and it was sold out. Worth the persistence....beautiful Japanese garden hidden in center of resteraunt with just a few outdoor tables. Rest of tables view it from indoors. Great selection of sushi rolls many with very spicy peppers...but not all. The sashimi was very fresh and tender. Excellent service and very fast sushi chefs....

Awesome rolls and unique cocktails. Unlike many sushi roll places the ingredients seem to be top notch and you can taste everything in the roll. Very very well balanced. The cocktails were the same way, delicious and perfectly paired to the meal. Highly recommended.

I was visiting some friends who live outside Seattle and we decided to have a progressive dinner through Seattle. This was one of our stops. We waiting a long time and the service was fair, but the food was worth it. I can't rememember all of the rolls we had, but I do know they were all good, which makes me think that you can't go wrong here...I would not get the uni, but I am from Santa Barbara and we have the best Uni in the world...

We had dinner and it was absolutely wonderful the best I have had in Seattle. The quality of the fish is superior, rolls are magnificent and the saki is excellent. The interior of the restaurant is unique a bar area with full menu plus, inside the actual restaurant there is a sushi chef. There is also other seating available for more intimate dining. The unique glassed in interior area and lighting are beautiful. I will definitely return . The soft shell crab was perfectly prepared served over farm to table greens . The rolls are all made using top quality fresh ingredients . Make reservations well in advance and if you have to wait not to worry. This is amazingly good sushi - have one if their unique cocktails and enjoy .

One of the better sushi places I've been to in this area. There are bunch of rolls that are surprisingly filling and they vary quite a bit.

I'd been wanting to come here since I read about it and it did not disappoint. Ambience was lovely - very glad we booked ahead. We had a nice bottle of sake with the meal and the food was very high quality. The particular highlight was some king crab that just melted in the mouth. We had a really lovely meal and would definitely recommend it.

Wonderful dinner! Brendan at the SLU location was an amazing server. His service was top notch. The crispy calamari was delish!

This is not your stereotypical sushi place. They do some really over the top stuff with sushi. I found the service good and food spectacular. Large enough for groups but also has a small intimate bar for couples.

I've been there last night with a friend and was extremly happy with that place. Very good and tasteful sushi. And you even get complimentary edamame. I can totally recommend that place!

Had the snow crab soup which was very good. I managed to splash all over myself but I guess I had that coming? I also had the Hot as Hell roll. It was decent. It wasn't overwhelming spicy but it was hot. If you don't like spicy, don't do it. If you do, it was good but not great.

This place serves Americanized Japanese food. The food is not authentic. We ordered two rolls and they were filled and topped with random things (e.g., Thai sweet chili sauce). The waitress was not accommodating.

As many have said make reservations in advance if you can... there is usually a line out the door. Parking can be challenging so the light rail or taxi is best if you can swing it. If you can make the happy hour and find a table you won’t be disappointed with the shorter menu. Service is always great.

The best time to hit Momiji is during their happy hour 4-6pm everyday (and 4-7 if you are it the bar). If you don't have a reservation, which you will need to schedule a few days in advance of through OpenTable, show up 15 minutes before they open. Trust me, happy hour it is worth the short 15min wait in the rain. I suggest passing on the fun named sushi rolls and putting your dollars towards the sashimi set, at $11 during happy hour its a steal. Pair with complementary edamame and a cocktail of your choice. It's the perfect way to start your evening. The food and service are quick, but feel free to linger and take your time. After finishing feel free to wander the Capital Hill neighborhood for a delightful post-happy hour stroll.

The interior and surrounded Japanse garden are stunning! Although expensive for dinner, they have a good Happy Hour which gives you reasonably-prices drinks and food in an amazingly beautiful setting. I would definitely recommend a stop here!

By far the best sushi I had in Seattle! I'm so happy that I finally visited this place. It was packed even though it was a weekday night! And justifiably so! Stuff was super fresh and well prepared. We had pretty much everything. Salad, rolls, nigiris, and grilled fish. I loved literally every dish! Service was outstanding as well. Loved this place!

Being from Kansas City, I crave fresh fish, and decided to eat nothing but seafood on the entire trip to Seattle. Although I had to break it a few times, I definitely wanted to have sushi, which is my favorite. After a long day walking around the city, we managed to pull ourselves together for dinner. This was worth that final trek. We went a little later, around 8:30pm on a Tuesday, so there was no wait. We were seated promptly, right next to a beautiful indoor courtyard japanese garden. Our service was great, prompt without being over eager. And the food? They had almost 2 pages of specialty rolls! The nigiri was a little too pricey for us to try, but the rolls we ordered were amazing. I loved the Ultimate Dragon Roll. Great atmosphere. I also loved that they are open until 2am (food stops at 12:30am)!

This was my second visit to Momiji. On the first, I thought it was good but the menu was pretty much identical to Momiji's older sibling, Umi Sake House in Belltown. Since I live in Belltown, I didn't see the need to trek up the hill for the same stuff that I could get a few blocks away. I happened to run into one if the owners the other day and was told that they'd revamped the menu and that I should give it another try. I went last night with a friend and was pretty blown away at how great everything was, from simple aparagus spears drizzled with sumiso to the tempura to the nigiri-zushi. Everything was delicious! It all reminded me of some of the casual places I used to go to in Roppongi. I'll definitely make the trek up the hill, now, and often!

The service here was great, the establishment itself was fresh and very clean and was fun to be in and the sushi was fabulous. The prices were pretty good too. Will definitely eat here next time we're in Seattle.

We sat at the main sushi bar and watched as our selections were prepared. Everything was phenomenal and the choice are endless. I will return!

I had an amazing dinner. I didn't eat loads, but what I had was memorable. The Salmon Tartare is one of the best I've eaten and the Panda roll was incredible. Service was impecable.

Generously amount of sushi for the price and the fish is fresh!!! Music a little to loud for my taste, but other than that I would highly recommend this place.

If your looking for last minute options, this is not it. Unless your willing to be on a 1 hour minimum wait list. You can make a reservation to visit this restaurant, but not within 1 hr. This restuarant is located in Capital Hill and is across the street from the police station. The crowd is mixed and diverse. The happy hour startes at 10pm and that menu is limited. The hostess and waiter were both excellent. The food was better than average but not the best sushi I have ever had. The sushi menu is extensive and so is the sake menu. For two of us it was a $50/per person outing including a bottle of sake, 2 rolls and a $40 omakase. I will definitely return here again but will check out some other local places first.

Trendy restaurant with a very nice central courtyard. We ordered a few rolls for us and our kids. Kids had miso soup and basic salmon rolls that were fresh and very good. We had a few specialty rolls that were inventive and delicious. It was a great stop for dinner after a zoo visit. A quick uber and you're there. Reservations are necessary. We didn't have one, but were still able to be seated because we got there at 6:15pm and we promised to be done by 8pm (in time for their next reservation for that table).

We recently ate here with friends and while I was impressed with the variety on the menu, and the freshness of the ingredients, nothing was out of the world incredible. Seattle has many good sushi restaurants and this one just seems to cater to a young and loud crowd and kind of looks like it is doing things on a large scale instead of focusing on something unique. I thought the sashimi plate was the best decision and the spider rolls were disappointing as was the unagi roll. Go for the sashimi!

We arrived at Momiji right at our reservation time. Had to wait a bit which was fine. When they took us to our table we walked to the back area and it opened up to this amazing serene looking garden. Wow was all I could say. I didn't expect this at all coming off of busy 12th Ave. We got a table right next to the garden. Bunch of Japanese maples. Very nice. We had a bottle of sake. There sake menu is huge. I don't recall which we got. It was a little lighter then I expected but easy to drink. We were amazed at the number of rolls they had available. It was like 3 pages of just rolls. We ordered 5 different roll. The best ones were the Ultimate Dragon and 12th Ave roll. The others were good too but these two really stick out for us. We did get a "standard" Spider roll and I have to say that compared to the other rolls, it was pretty standard. The spider roll is one of my go to's when I have sushi. They had the usual sushi and dashiki if you don't like rolls. The ambiance of the space was great. Tables were not on top of each other so we could have a conversation fairly easily. We spent 3 hours there! Overall I would highly recommend Momiji.

Nestled on 12th Avenue off East Pike in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle, you will find Momiji. Wife and I had dinner there on a Friday night in June 2016. As it was not too far a walk from our hotel, and we both love sushi, and the reviews on this restaurant were excellent, it was a no-brainer that we had to try this place out. I had made a reservation via the "find a table" functionality of TA - what a great service! We arrived 10 minutes before our 5:45 pm reservation and were told that we would be led to our table at the appointed time. There were many people waiting and the line spilled out onto the sidewalk. We passed the time by walking up the block to Gnocchi, a gelato and dinner bistro where we went for dessert after the meal (the pistachio gelato was memorable). At the stroke of 5:45, we were taken to our table, in the same room as the sushi bar. I quickly figured out why the place was so crowded when we arrived - happy hour was about to expire on the hour (and at 7 pm in the cocktail bar). Luckily our server got our order in before 6 pm. I chose two happy hour plates - the sushi set "a" (one each piece of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore & eel) and an unagi roll. I also ordered a pair of hamachi, salmon, and a pair of ikura with quail egg off the dinner menu. Wife ordered amaebi (three pieces and two fried heads) and an ultimate dragon roll. We both ordered some miso soup to begin with. The miso soup came a few minutes later. It was good, rich, and hot. I considered it the precursor to a wonderful meal. My unagi roll was next. It had more avocado than eel - the avocado overwhelmed whatever amount of eel was in the roll. I would rate it "okay". For the record, the sushi rice was done just right. Then the rest of the sushi came. The first piece I tried was unagi from the "sushi set". Now, the best unagi I've had is tender, served hot/warm, and brushed with teriyaki sauce. This unagi was almost cold and not at all tender. Eel has a distinctive flavor, but it was absent from this serving. There was no brushed sauce on top, either. I thought to myself, this eel is frozen, not fresh. It felt like biting into a mass of some unknown fish, not fresh unagi. It was borderline unpleasant. My hopes for a great meal were starting to sink. There were also albacore and hamachi pieces in the set. Frankly, it was hard to tell the difference between them - they were both devoid of flavor. The quality of the hamachi is my measure of merit for a sushi restaurant. I concluded the same thing about the hamachi as I did the unagi - it had been frozen and defrosted prior to serving. It was neither tender nor tasty. It's been a long time since I had yellowtail that lacked flavor. But the time was up! The tuna was also tasteless. I was really disappointed with the salmon. This was farmed fish, an abomination, also defrosted. It look appealing but had no flavor. I mean, come on, this is the Pacific Northwest and fresh salmon is ubiquitous. The salmon roe with quail egg was another story - it was great. There was plenty of roe on top. A wealth of flavor was released when I bit into it, . These eggs were unequivocally fresh. I really enjoyed them. The sushi set pieces were about 75% the size of a normal dinner serving. The regular dinner-hour sushi sported generous servings of fish. It's too bad they were not fresh. I think the best item was my wife's ultimate dragon roll (crab-mayo mix, cucumber & avocado topped w/ half an eel, tobiko, sesame seeds & teriyaki sauce). She let me have some and it was delicious. Not really a bargain at $20 but it justified the cost. Wife's amaebi was a disappointment. It suffered from the same malaise as most of my meal. Wife also considered its texture a bit off - a little bit too slimy. The fried heads were good, though. It was a lot of food for only a $96 bill (prior to tip - and we didn't have alcohol). We left full, but disappointed. This place did not live up to its rating. I have eaten sushi for the past 30 years and know the difference between fresh and frozen fish - living in Alaska, we get a lot of frozen sushi-grade fish in the winter. Under those circumstances, it's acceptable. But not here in Seattle, where access to all manner of fresh fish is an everyday occurrence. The hot items might be better than the sushi, and if I come back to Momiji, that is what I'll try.

Just having flown in from the east, meeting up with a friend who had just moved to Seattle, wandering around looking for a place to eat and stumbled into Momiji. From the street it looks tiny but a long hall leads to a rear dining room with courtyard. Very comfortable. Excellent service and recommendations. Top level sushi.

First of all, I understand that Momiji is an Americanized version of sushi, but I loved it just the same. We went during their late night happy hour and got 4 sets of rolls. I was absolutely in love with the crunchy Seattle roll and I'm going to be dreaming about it until I make it back there. Such an interesting blend of flavors, great service, and fun overall.

The restaurant itself is quite charming and I really wanted to like it. It has an open area in the middle with trees which is quite unique. Our server was adequate, but he had about zero personality. The sushi was okay, but not as tasty as I had hoped. Plus, it's very overpriced. We had a much better experience the previous weekend with our daughter in Pismo Beach and it cost $30 less for the same amount of sushi. My son and I ate the sushi and we were fine. But my husband ate the yakisoba and he got horrible food poisoning from it. Be careful! I wouldn't recommend this restaurant when there are so many better places to eat in Seattle.

Arrived at 4pm. Put our name down for a table for 6 and went to a nearby bar for a drink. We were texted within 20 mins to say that the table was ready. Had a great table for the 6 of us in the back room. Wonderful atmosphere. Had rose wine and Kirin beer (all excellent). We had a selection of all the happy hour sushi and sashimi plates and they all got a thumbs up from everyone at the table. Can’t think of anything that could be improved - an excellent way to spend a Saturday evening.

I love this place. I made a table on OpenTable (which I would recommend because it does get quite busy on a weekend night). The restaurant is very clean, trendy and way bigger than it looks from the outside. They have a full bar, a large menu and full bar. It is a little on the spendy side, but nothing too crazy given the quality of the sushi/seafood. We ordered from the specials menu and the regular menu and there was not a single thing we were disappointed in. Originally we wanted veggie gyozas to start but they were out and the waitress asked if we wanted to try the seafood ones- GREAT IDEA. They were very juicy and bursting with flavor. I would recommend this place for a nice night out.

My wife and I visited Momiji, we sat at the sushi bar in the dinning area and had a wonderful time. The service was good, the food came to us lightning fast, and the quality of the fish is unmatched. The guys making the sushi make quick work of every ticket that comes through the kitchen. What appeared to be the head chef was checking dishes as they went to the pass as well. We have travelled the nation checking out sushi places, and this is one of the best. Highly recommended.

Located in what seemed like a rather low profile neighbourhood and with a not so loud shopfront, Momiji is in fact a trendy Japanese place to eat some creative rolls. It has nice seating area surrounding a glazed Japanese garden. The food was good, slightly pricey but a wonderful place for a date or late night snack.

I have been here several times with friends and family. Has an excellent vegetarian sushi menu, which my daughter appreciates. Also, the menu works well for gluten-free diners. Their happy hour menu is extensive, reasonable, and all of the sushi I have had is so fresh and well-prepared. I also love their spicy ginger chicken. Great cocktails and excellent wait staff. Make reservations. This is a very popular spot!

The happy hour at Momiji is wonderful! The sashimi set was delicious and fresh. The salmon was great. And the free edamame was a really nice added touch. You rarely see that anymore. The only complaint (and maybe this is my fault for not checking in the main menu) is that the seaweed salad on the happy hour menu was not listed as spicy. I can't handle spicy foods and would typically avoid ordering anything that says spicy, so that was an unpleasant surprise.

Momiji is certainly modern and lively, but it is more than that: it is a beautiful place with a warm and inspiring ambience and outstanding creative and adventurous food. The service is surprisingly warm and personal. The food is utterly gorgeous to look at and consistently delicious. I would like to think of some helpful suggestion or constructive critique to offer. But the plain fact is that it would be very hard to improve on Momiji. It is a neighborhood place that rivals any more ambitious venue by all the criteria that matter. A rare and wonderful dining experience.

The servers were amazing. The setting was superb. The sushi was extremely fresh and flavorful. The pricing was exceptionally reasonable! Enjoyed it a lot!

Momiji is a wonderful restaurant with a superb menu featuring sushi, rolls, omakase and other Japanese food. We especially liked the great atmosphere and the zen garden in the middle of the restaurant. We came on a Monday evening – the place was busy but we were seated immediately. The service was very friendly and efficient. We started with Shochu cocktails (they have a great drink list by the way) and were delighted. With the drinks came free Edamame and our water glasses were always checked on and filled. We’v really enjoyed the Vegetable Gyoza, Seared Albacore Belly, Albacore Tuna Tataki, Ohitashi Spinach and Madison Rolls. We were too full to order more – what a pity – we have to come back ☺

Happy hour offers some enticing choices, but the standard is not consistent. The calamari and kal bi bites were small and dry. Sushi rolls also are good. Regular menu items of note: the tomato/okra/tofu and nabeyaki udon are excellent.

Happy hour at Momiji is incredible. Great sushi for great prices in a great atmosphere. Staff is always friendly and helpful. This place is a must, if you want incredible sushi for a reasonable price.

What great sushi and happy hour. We've been twice and tried to go two more times but can't get a reservation. Great prices and variety on the Happy Hour menu. Tasty, tasty, tasty and can't wait to go back.

We had dinner at Momiji last Friday and it was absolutely wonderful the very best I have had in Seattle. I will definitely return !

I had been wanting to try this restaurant as soon as I noticed it next to the Packard building, where I was renting an apartment. What stopped me from entering was that it was always full, until one night when I went in regardless, and found out there is ample seating to the rear of the restaurant as well! So don't be discouraged and please go in, because if you love sushi, then you will not want to eat anywhere else. The sushi is quite frankly the best I have eaten anywhere, ever. They use only the freshest ingredients. If you enjoy watching the meticulous attention they give to preparing your meal, then sit at the sushi bar in the rear: it's a beautiful thing to watch. There are also plenty of other things to order from the menu. I can only tell you that the yakisoba is also delicious, because I did eat it for dinner, but really, the other times I went, I focused on the sushi. Again, and again. Now, good sushi is not cheap. So it corresponds that the excellent sushi prepared here is not cheap, but it is worth every dollar, and is comparable in price to other sushi restaurants. I ticked off the three dollar icon below for affordability, but it's really between the two and three. The restaurant has begun offering a more affordable happy hour menu on certain days of the week, so check their website, http://momijiseattle.com/#home_ , or contact the restaurant to find out when these occur. Do not pass up a chance to eat at this restaurant, it's quite simply fantastic food prepared with meticulous precision; the entire experience was highly enjoyable. I ate at this restaurant several times during my brief stay in Seattle, and look forward to visiting again the next time I am there.

We had to meet someone at 6 so tried to pop in for a quick dinner at this sushi restaurant a friend recommended. We were pleasantly surprised they had an awesome happy hour from 4 to 6, and to 7 if you sat in bar area. The sushi was so fresh and everything was delicious (except the poke, which was just ok). Food came out fast and we were finished in 45 minutes with dinner. It’s also close to stump town coffee, if you’d like to get coffee after dinner.

Came here on a Tuesday night around 6pm with no reservation, we waited no more than 5 minutes which was great, but were told they had another party coming at 7:45pm and asked if an hour and 45 minutes would be enough for us, we said yes since it was more than enough for us. They have some seating when you first walk in but the main focus is the bar. Atmosphere is lovely, dimly lit and overall romantic and warm vibes. Down the hall they have two eating areas basically separated by an enclosed courtyard (which we couldn't see that well since it was dark, but it looked pretty!), we got lucky and had a table right next to the window. There were other couples there, but mostly groups. They have an extensive drink menu which was awesome. The bf got a Nido King and I went with a glass of the plum wine, while the drinks were good I def was expecting a standard sized glass of wine and was pretty disappointed in how tiny it was, as it barely lasted me through dinner. They have a pretty big sushi menu as well, mostly consisting of 'special' rolls. We got veggie gyoza to start (they also served edamame which was nice!) and got 3 rolls. They were all fresh and incredibly delicious, which is what I'd expect for the price. The rolls were 12pcs each and were generally the size of regular sushi rolls (small ish) so it was incredibly filling too. I'm still thinking of the 007, easily the best roll I've ever had! This place was expensive so I wouldn't recommend coming here just for lunch, but definitely more for a night with friends or for a date!

My son who loves Seattle "forced" me to go here and he was right. Amazing food, sitting at the Sushi Bar was especially amazing, watching them prepare the food and intereacting with the Sushi Chef was great. We did Chef's Choice the Spinach appetizer which was awesome and the Black Sesame Ice Cream too!

The sake menu is very impressive. We had the Hakutsuru organic junmai, and the bottle was relatively inexpensive ($29). The food is pretty amazing. My favorite roll was the Hotter Than Hell roll. We showed up late for our reservations, and had to wait a little while. I recommend showing up on time. The hostesses were still very nice and accommodating.

We on a Friday evening and I am glad to have made reservations ahead of time as the place was packed. The server was very attentative and thoroughly knowledgable about the sushi. We didn't use the extensive menu but asked our server for her recommendations and everyone was over the moon with the yummy food. My favorite was the spicy snow crab roll followed up salmon sashimi. If that doesn't put a smile on your face nothing will. Each of us in our small party of three had a few fun cocktails to seal the deal for a great evening. We sat next to the atrium and were able to people watch those around as visiting. It was another excellent night out in Seattle.

If you go to the famous Momiji for Happy Hour, make sure you select from the special Happy Hour limited food and drinks menu. This fact was not explained to us. Nice place, but we felt taken advantage of.

We quickly stopped in for two basic rolls and a pot of green tea one evening around 9pm (Note, their second Happy Hour starts at 10pm). Although the rolls can be slightly more expensive than other locations ($8-$9 each for basic spicy tuna / Seattle roll; $18-20 for specialty), the meat was extremely fresh and tasty. Not to mention the green tea was high quality and smooth on the palate. The ambiance is beautiful, and I loved the decor and service. Truly a higher end sushi place that’d be great for a date or special evening.

This place delivers amazing sushi and rolls. I recommend the omakase be a useful it's such a delight from variety to price. The service maybe i was at the bar but was not great. Slow to serve and forgetful. Again the food is all worth it.

We ordered basically the entire HH food menu and it was all very good! The drinks are creative and fun as well. The atmosphere is great, the interior garden makes the experience.

We tried the Happy Hour and while the price points were good, we can’t say the same for the quality of food especially, Sashimi. The fish lacked any kind of flavor which is rather odd. There are other reviews highlighting the same issue. They most likely freeze and the thaw the fish - we couldn’t taste the distinct flavor of Albacore, Tuna or Yellowtail. The service is ok but nothing great. The only time the waitress smiled was when she brought the bill. The tempura and Sushi rolls were better than sashimi. I doubt if the fish is better quality during non-happy hour. The restaurant is well laid out but wish food was good or better than average.

Very disappointing. Service was awful. Our waitress was completely uninterested in us and seemed clueless. We were a group of 4 adults and a toddler. When she took our order and asked about drinks, one person ordered a bottle of wine...she brought him a glass.Sure, there could have been just one person at the table ordering a drink, but you'd think she would have asked/confirmed. When we told her the error, she didn't even apologize for the misunderstanding. Then she brought our order of Nebayaki Udon ... and brought with it two bowls and two spoons. Wouldn't she have brought bowls and spoons for everyone? Whenever we asked for something (e.g., a glass for our toddler, a fork to help us split a dish we were sharing), she looked at us as if we were inconveniencing her. I got fed up, talked with the manager and requested a new server. He took care of it and things improved. I was surprised, however, that when he came over to our table at the end of the evening to clear a few plates that he never asked if everything was ok. I've been there three times in the past six months, which is a lot considering the number of good restaurants in Seattle. Although the food was good, given the service and the "Okay" food safety rating (second from the bottom) I noticed on the way out, I'm hesitant to return.

I went for the happy hour menu with friends. The food was fine, nothing outstanding. The server seemed a bit hostile that we were ordering only the "cheap" stuff. She wasn't at all attentive to our table (my companion spilled some soy sauce (very obvious spill) and despite the server coming by several times, she never offered to wipe it up, I finally had to ask someone to do it). The black sesame ice cream was horrible, with big ice crystals throughout - inedible. The server never checked back on how we liked dessert and didn't comment when I told her about the ice cream, just charged us for it. We won't be back.

We ordered one $60 omakase, yellowtail sashimi and some special rolls. One with a coconut topping and mango glaze was just okay (the topping didn't quite fit); the other with creamy scallops was great. The sushi and sashimi were delicate, tasty and nicely sized. The service was caring and gave solid recommendations. The black sesame ice cream was delicious. Their green tea ice cream was not our favorite- we have enjoyed others more.

Had the small sashimi plate. 7 types of fish, 2 pieces each. The portion size was generous, and oh so tasty! We also ordered the ahi poke and a few rolls--amazing! So fresh and tasty, even at 11:30 pm! You have to try this place!

Great location, great sushi - sat at the bar - had great drinks and the most amazing calamari, miso cod, and the tatami yellow tail and salmon were amazing - definitely coming back, love this place, ALOT! And it's exceptional value for Japanese food.

This is in the top 5% of sushi I have ever eaten. It was a truly awesome dinner. Many of the sashimi were incomparably fresh. We were served abalone that was still twitching from the kitchen. If you are not careful (we were not careful) your bill can easily end up well over $200 per person. You are paying a high, but probably appropriate price, for highest end quality.

I can understand the draw for places like these. They have a very extensive menu, one of the most extensive ive seen for sushi places. The fish is fresh, the rolls are great and the prices are pretty standard for Seattle sushi joints. A lot of their rolls have a sauce and they have refined sugar in them so I am not a big fan of that. I am more into traditional sushi or inventive sushi that showcases the fish and the raw ingredients and none of the sauce or the deep fried stuff. The service is just ok and the place is super loud, its really hard to talk in places like these. I might be back here but might just stick with the traditional sushi rolls or even try their non sushi dishes.

I would make reservations if you 're are going on the weekend. Ask for a table in the back by the atrium. The food is outstanding as well as the service and waitstaff. Our server was knowledgable about the menu and the wine list. He made great recommendations. My compliments to the owners who have created an atmopshere so pleasing to the senses. It's also located in a colorful neighborhood which I suggest strolling around after dinner.

The back room facing on the Japanese garden is the place to be. Excellent Japanese food. Nice happy hour with drinks and food to satisfy thirst and hunger. But the star rating went up for us, when we were ushered into the back rooms of the restaurant, which looked onto a tranquil garden setting in the middle of the restaurant. The front of the restaurant is a traditional bar with windows overlooking the street, which had the nice buzz of a youth oriented meeting place. So in a way, there are two settings to chose from. For us, the quieter garden was just right. Again, food was well done and appealing, with an array of drinks from sake to beer. But we plan to return for the setting.

My wife and I came in on 4th of July for dinner and had an amazing meal! This is by no means the cheapest sushi, but a great value for fresh fish and well composed rolls. We were surprised by the size of the restaurant in the back and the high standard of service.

Go for happy hour before 6, and you are in for a treat. Full meal for under $20.00. Tempura, Seattle roll, spicy chicken and tea. The atmosphere is great with a Japanese garden in the courtyard.

Sushi falls into three categories: 1: No, it looks sketch, i wont even go in. 2: Its sushi, and its delicious. 3: ErrrrmagerOMG this FAN-FREAKING TASTIC! Momiji falls into the third category, really fresh fish, creative, unique rolls. If you're coming expecting, miso, California Roll and a Spicy Tuna, you wont appriciate Momiji. Possibly the best sushi I have ever had, and I've had a LOT of sushi!

This is one of our favorite sushi restaurants in Seattle. While the service can range from major attitude to gracious and attentive, we keep coming back because the food is just so good! It's pricey but the rolls are very large so you don't need to order a lot. I definitely recommend making aa reservation since it can be tough to get a table as a walk-in, especially on weekends.

We went to Momiji, for the first time, after a movie and was in for a real treat. The menu is long and a bit forboding, but we decided to have the $40 sashimi plate (chef's selection). OMG, so good. The fresh scallops, mackerel, salmon, and king crab (a huge portion) was great, and enough for 2. We also ordered the seafood udon noodles. Equally delicious. I think it's the best fresh fish I've ever had. So yummy even without the soy, ginger and wasabi added on.

Delicious sushi, excellent service and a terrific ambiance. Four of us went to Momiji for dinner late night and had a wonderful meal. We ordered 5 different rolls as well as a few appetizers and shared them all. Highly recommend!

Went on a busy Friday night. There was about an hour wait, but we were having fun catching up so it was okay! Service was fantastic, food was impeccable loved the Pike St roll and the Crunchy Seattle. Also the 7 spice crab appetizer was delicious. The decor is breathtaking. Would totally go again!

Walked in as a solo looking for a seat for some food and a beverage. Front desk hostess was very accommodating. Ah mentioned that a set at the bar was just opening up and I could sit there. The busser cleared the space, wiped it down and the bartender reset the plate and utensils. Bartender delivered menus and asked if I would like a beverage. Ordered a club soda, splash of cranberry with a lime. Bartender delivered water and my beverage. Placed order for a Spider Roll and short ribs. Food was delivered in short order. Very tasty. Wonderful service. Highly recommend.

Five stars for the space, three to four stars for the overall menu. The food is presented in a very visually appealing way. The quality of ingredients was good and the portions large. The variety of sushi rolls is eclectic to say the least. Tried a few different rolls, but overall, the taste combinations were a little overpowering for the delicate pieces of fresh fish. My advice, stick to traditional rolls and enjoy the quality. If you're with someone who doesn't appreciate sushi that much, then the bells and whistle rolls with everything on it will help to mask the clean taste of raw fish...but why bother.

The sushi rolls at Momiji are fresh and fantastic. For sushi lovers, you cannot go wrong coming here. I was visiting Seattle and wanted a sure-thing sushi place. This is it! Went with my favorite prof from grad school, and we had a very special evening. You definitely need a reservation for the restaurant. The setting is beautiful, with a center courtyard, although we had a very difficult time finding the front door of the restaurant! We walked right by it. The front door has a neon sign that doesn't draw attention (it's across from the police station on 12th). The restaurant interior was a little loud, but that could have been the group of young women who were almost screaming with excitement about their evening out together! Our waitress was lovely. Just enough attention, excellent focus on what we wanted to order (perfect amount of food), and awesome suggestions. I highly recommend Momiji. It was suggested to me by an old high school friend, and the food was Seattle fresh and delicious. Thanks.

I've been coming here since moving to Seattle over a year ago. Very fresh sushi, creative rolls, good service, and great drinks. I've been here for all occasions: business dinners, evening out with friends, and even for family dinners with kids. It has always been a great time. Nice ambiance also with a lovely zen garden in the middle. You can't have a bad experience.

It is pretty rare to find a place serving sushi of this quality. The presentation is creative and the quality of the fish, impressive. The staff was helpful, especially at choosing the sake (I'm not a connoisseur). I really enjoyed my evening.

This place is just great. We arrived without a reservation around 6PM on a Tuesday night. Not a great idea as the place was full. We ordered drinks and figured we'd have to wait. However, we were on the early side so they put us at a table that was set for a 7:30 reservation as long as we were out by then. It worked out perfectly (we left at 7:45, sorry!). We sat inside at the garden window. Again, perfect as it was a warm day in Seattle and it was good to be inside. Food was wonderful and portion sizes generous. We shared the seafood gyoza, jalapeno hamachi sashimi, taku carpacio (octopus, thinly sliced), 12th ave roll, rising sun and the yakiudon noodles. Everything was fresh and well prepared. The pieces of the hamachi were easily twice as large as we are used to getting, and so good. Definitely too much for a single bite. The gyoza were steamed and then fried on just on side. Nice touch. The Rising Sun was a vegetarian roll that was amazing. Although ordered for the non-sushi fan, we all indulged. If you are a fan of Japanese whisky, they actually have some of the stuff you cannot find around anymore like 17 and 21 yr old Hibiki, It'll cost you, but it's worth it. Other cocktails are a bit pricey, but in line with other big cities. Total bill for 4 with 5 cocktails and a $55 glass of whisky was $236 before tip which I felt was very fair. Food only was right at $100. About those cocktails. The bar was extremely slow. We received our final bar order as we were finishing our meal, which was about 15 minutes too late. They need to work on that. Not sure if it was the waitperson or the bar staff. That was the unfortunate dull spot in an otherwise brilliant evening. Thanks for a great meal and accommodating us at the last minute. Would certainly return. But please iron out the bar issue.

The title says it all. There is no skimping on the portions and everything tastes fresh. Service is prompt and friendly. The cocktails are inventive and definitely worth a try.

We enjoyed happy hour at Momiji... arrived at opening (4:00) on a Friday afternoon, and the restaurant was almost full by 4:30. Rolls and sashimi were reasonably priced during happy hour, and the service was great. Some highlights for us were the grilled garlic short ribs (very tender) and the Seattle Crunchy Roll (creamy goodness on the inside, crunchy on the outside. But he star of the meal was the salmon sashimi. Perfect texture and taste, and the portion was the largest I've ever seen... for $8. Honestly, the slices were three times as thick as any I've gotten anywhere else. I guessed that in Dallas I'd pay $20+ for the same amount. Delicious.

food is good but i thought the service wasn't really great.. probably it was a happy hour. I like their sushi, sashimi

In a noisy but lovely setting, Momiji serves tasty imaginative high quality sushi. The restaurant is always crowded.

A late Saturday night dinner for four on Capital Hill? We braved the parking challenges to make 8:30p reservations last night and found it well worth the effort and time. Besides top-notch sushi (and our standards are fairly high), we enjoyed excellent dishes of short ribs, king crab and calamari. The place was packed and noisy with chatter but the dining areas are split up, bringing some sense of intimacy and coziness. Great wall art with backlighting. Attentive, friendly service. We will return for sure, although we (50-60 year olds) were definitely the oldest diners to be seen.

Momiji was a great place for an early dinner. We sat in the dining room and ordered numerous courses. It was great to have a large selection of hot and cold dishes to chose from. The have nicely crafted cocktails and great beer on tap. The service was spot on and friendly from everyone that passed our table. Dirty dishes were removed promptly and there was no lack for fresh water. Great sushi and rolls. The only problem we had was reading the small print menu in dim light.

This is was such a great addition to Capitol Hill. The restaurant is bigger than you think looking from the outside, with areas for small parties, or larger groups, and the bar area at the front with AMAZING happy hour! It's a stylish place, delicious rolls, and prices make it even better.

Eating at Momiji was such a treat. Beautiful garden, tables were well spaced, servers were all masked and best of all the food was amazing. Try the fried rice special sushi - so good! We found this gem by luck on our one night in Seattle!

Had the pleasure of having Masa San prepare our dinner at the Sushi bar - we had a great conversation and enjoyed the most amazing Japanese food - the Miso Cod was superb and very well prepared. The sushi was excellent - Momiji stands out for it's unique and exceptional selection of Sushi - if you want pure traditional Japanese food go to Nishino if you want some amazing other dishes like the Squid, the Sushi, definitely come here! It's superb, continues to impress.

I absolutely loved this place. I ate with colleagues around 8pm, we reserved only about an hour in advance and were out on a waiting list. Tables are allocated loosely according to the wait list but they will seat people in advance if it keeps the flow moving. It was very busy, but a table quickly became available in the bar area on street level. The staff are efficient and turn over seemed quick so this was a good process in my opinion. The food was some of the best sushi I have had (comparable to cha cha moon in London). The salmon was perfect and I highly recommend it. We had the eel sushi which was also very good. The flavour combinations are lovely, and the portions are perfect for sharing. We had about 5 plates, pickles and a side between the 4 of us and it was more than enough food. I did not go downstairs but the atmosphere in the very small bar area was fun. Fully packed there was a cool buzz without the need to raise your voice to hear each other. I will definitely be returning next time I am in Seattle.

Love this place. Delicious food. Friendly waitstaff. The atmosphere was the most lovely and most surprising. There's a zen garden in the middle of this place! It was listed on a must visit Seattle native list, so we checked it out and were not disappointed. It should be noted that each roll is quite large, double a 6 piece roll that I'm used to in NYC.

For good sushi. look no further than Momiji! We loved the ambiance, the cute server, the extensive list of foods and wines, the FOOD! Impeccable!

This place is beautiful inside and whether you're in the bar or dining room, it's a great atmosphere. I suggest the sushi bar or a table near the windows in the dining room. Happy hour in the bar area goes until 7pm (6pm in dining room) and has a great variety of drinks and food. The staff are pretty snobby and I've never encountered someone there who is actually friendly. Maybe they pride themselves on having quirky staff, but it just comes off as condescending. I don't usually go here outside of happy hour because of the long waits, inability to make reservations, and much greater expense.

Wow! Gorgeous! That's what I said to myself as we enter the restaurant. The decor was just stunning thanks to the talented designer Yuri Kinoshita. The garden was beautifully lit. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of the dinner. To be specific, this review was for the omakase meal. The food does not have the sense and sensibility that one would expect from this kind of restaurant. The sushi served is equal in quality to that u find at Genki Sushi. Sashimi grade was not the best either. Although the restaurant named "maple leaf", none of the food matched the beauty of it's name. Price point was not bad. But this restaurant has so much potential to be a really classy restaurant if only the food can match the decor.

Everything I've ever ordered here has been amazing. The menu is inventive and you really can't go wrong. Drinks are good too! It is definitely pricey, so it's more of a special occasion joint. Plus, there's usually a wait, so make reservations! Just make sure you make them a few days in advance. It's worth it, I promise!

The ambiance, the service, and the food was fantastic! We tried 6 different sushi rolls and they were all yummy! We will be back the next time we are in Seattle!

Everytime I visit, the food is excellent. The prices are reasonable given the great quality sushi and there is always a good atmosphere. Booking ahead on weekends is recommended!

We visited for our second time to sample the full menu as we had had the happy hour previously. Not disappointed! Delicious! The halibut cheeks were amazing and all the food was beautifully presented. Lovely server and great atmosphere. Will always bring friends here as fun and leave wanting more despite feeling full.

Really enjoyed our evening here with food I woke up thinking about getting some more. The open, natural setting is very nice and ideal for couples or larger groups. The bill could get expensive however the ~$16 rolls are delish and very large (great for sharing). For a couple with a couple drinks each, we left at about $100 incl tip so very doable...but could easily get to $200+. Service was friendly but didn't feel they really wanted to help beyond the basics of taking an order and delivering a couple plates. Their website could use a couple basic upgrades...click to call and direct to open table would've helped, and almost led to choose Naka instead.

Enjoyed the cocktails and wide selection of sushi. Also garlic short ribs a must. Fun neighborhood as well and nice setting.

We thoroughly enjoyed a family birthday dinner at Momiji. The food is an interesting mix of traditional Japanese dishes and modern variations. The dining room is a surprise -- entrance through a small bar area, down a corridor, and then two spacious dining areas separated by an interior garden. The menu is a little bit heavy on the mix 'n match crazy sushi rolls that are all the rage these days, but from the number going by to other tables they are popular. And the people watching among the clientele is fun. Lots of interesting Capitol Hill types of all varieties.

The sushi was above average but not as impressive as I would have expected for a coastal seaport city. The Jasmine tea was authentic and served at the appropriate temperature. We dined in the back room which had parallel reflective walls and a concrete floor, amplifying the overall sound of an unruly baby shrieking at a proximal table. This served as a startling distraction to conversation, making this a poor location for casual conversation. The staff was not intrusive and appropriately attentive. The back room could benefit from some acoustic treatment.

I found this place on yelp and dragged my family there and our high hopes weren't just met - they were exceeded and by far. Our server was genuinely nice and attentive and the food was to die for - we ordered seconds and then more seconds just because it was so good! I had the Caterpillar sushi, my sister had the tofu salad and my mom had the Tropical Paradise with fresh fruit and seriously, it was paradise! My dad had noodles which sounded pretty basic but were the bomb. They took a little longer than anticipated so that most of us were finished by the time his food arrived, so they gave us that meal on the house. And since we were ordering seconds, the delay didn't even really matter. I'm not exaggerating - best sushi experience I've ever had!

Maybe it's because we didn't have reservations that we got the worst waiter ever but I was not at all impressed with this place. We were visiting from out of town so maybe because we weren't in the "know" as to how to order or what the deal was but we were told we get "16" in a roll. Oh...so for those of you from the REST OF THE WORLD that's 8 pieces that they just cut in half to make 16. For some reason they don't make ordering nigiri easy, it's all about the rolls (presumably because they make more money off rice than they do fish). With all the places out there to try I will NEVER be back to this one. Haughty attitude with a side of rolls. Please.

I am from Seattle... With that comes a certain base line requirement for terrific and fresh sushi and fish. Momiji is a far above the rest and a terrific option for all kinds of sushi, nigiri, sashimi and different entrees. This is a great place for a date, family dinner, or late night happy hour with friends.

Three of us stopped again at one of our favorite sushi spots on Capital Hill and once again a fine example of great food and drinks were experienced by all. The offering for a Saturday happy hour was well thought out and well presented. The service was thoughtful and very attentive and the food was high quality and generous. A wonderful experience

We ate here during our last week before moving from Seattle. If only I had known about it earlier! The space itself is beautiful. The wall sculpture and sculptural hangings are works of art. Each of the dining spaces is unique. The food is beautiful as well. Most important, the food is delicious. Too bad I no longer live in the neighborhood.

This place is amazing. The sushi is fresh, and the rolls are inventive and delicious. Before Momiji, I only liked getting rolls when going to a sushi restaurant. But I tried the sushi/sashimi here and I'll never go back! Delicious. Definitely worth a visit for sushi-lovers visiting Seattle.

Tuesday night and we still had to wait for a 9:00 table. So they're doing well, but for us the experience was just a bit too much off key. Middle of the resstaurant is a beautifully realized Japanese garden with a bamboo drip fountain surrounded by a peaceful traditional arrangement of stones, greens, and bamboo. Inside the restaurant the decor is Japanese enought, but the noise level from both the tables and kitchen is wayway high, and if that is not noisy enough, the piped music adds to the din. By the way the "music" is an endless lite-rap tuneless rhythmic beat. Whatever feeling of Japan might have been there, this stiffles it. The food is a mix of the usual Japanese and then some Japanese you know, but kicked up a couple of notches. The all-salmon sushi special of the day was straight down the line, fresh, light, and excellent. Miso soup again standard, but a tad too salty and with a spicy kick. The sushi roll we had was very nicely presented, but a crunchy inside. Next to the roll was a strip of fruit sauce for dipping. While good to the eye, the combination of flavors was unsubtle and strange. But, the grilled crab plate was succulent, plentiful and plain. A good ingredient, nicely left alone to be be enjoyed for its rich natural flavor. There is a nice offering of premioum sake's so in that department there is joy to be found. Service is just fine and prices are fair for what is provided. So the bottom line, if you like that kind of thing as apparently many do, you can be happy. For us, it was not quite Japanese and where it was taken in a new directiion, the journey's end did not quite pay off.

First and foremost, the food at Momiji is incredible. Inventive, delicious pairings in their specialty rolls along with amazing sauces and garnishes have previously made this restaurant a priority any time I'm in Seattle. That being said, on my most recent trip our service was absolutely appalling. We were seated in the back room which has great atmosphere and a lovely view of the courtyard, but unfortunately they had only one server working the entire room. I absolutely understood that they were clearly busy and under-staffed and honestly expected some delay in ordering and service times. What was the most upsetting was that the waiter was completely aloof, rude, and frankly seemed annoyed at our very presence despite the fact we had made a reservation. He dropped off our menus and we didn't see him again for at least 20 minutes--never came to take our drink order and then seemed annoyed when we ordered drinks when he finally came to take our dinner order. He was clearly trying to rush us out the entire time. Never checked on us once the food was delivered, never asked if we would like another drink or more food/dessert, just dropped off our ticket and offered a half-hearted "thanks for your patience". Clearly he recognized we had received sub-par service, so a genuine apology and explanation would have gone a LONG way. The food was still spectacular, but the level of service made this an EXTREMELY disappointing trip. There is obviously no shortage of sushi restaurants in Seattle, so I can't say for sure that I'll be back to Momiji in the future.

I'm not into Sushi so I tried the gyozo, tempura and yakisoba. Fantastic! Something for everyone. Father and son are Sushi lovers who'll go nuts for everything when we bring them back. Relaxing environment and tone is perfect for friends night out.

Actually found this place on TripAdvisor using the 'near me' icon. Almost passed it up as it doesn't have its name in big bold letters. Looks like a small hole in the wall but is pretty big inside. We had a few rolls and thought it was very good. I'll definitely be going back when we make it back to Seattle.

Great meal here, it was nice to see the specialty rolls were served in more generous portions than most sushi places. Everything we tried was fresh and delicious. The miso soup with Manila clams was a welcome upgrade from typical miso. Service was good and though the place was busy we only had to wait a few minutes for a table on a Saturday night.

Walked in here for drinks after having dinner at another place. From the outside it looked like a quaint little bar. Once we went in there was a hallway that led to an entire restaurant that I didn't expect. Food was excellent and they have happy hour after 10pm. Tried the short ribs, kurobuta no kakuni (braised pork shoulder) and the rainbow roll. Everything tasted great even though I wasn't hungry anymore. For the drink had the shochu mule (kinda like a Moscow mule but with shochu). Prices were decent, good atmosphere and food. Would definitely go back and try the restaurant side next time.

We enjoyed a few varieties of rolls, the flat iron steak, a salad with octopus and I washed it down with the raspberry minty Hello Kitty cocktail. The courtyard garden in the center in the back of the restaurant is as surprising as it is pretty. If only the restaurant was as meditatively peaceful as this oasis seems. It’s a bit noisy, especially during the happy hours. The food is well-prepared and presented. The service is awkward, slow then fast and I felt a judgmental attitude from the server. We weren’t sure what to think of that really. We’ll keep it on our back pocket list. My guess is that if the stars are aligned, we might enjoy a zen moment with friendly respectful service.

Momiji was recently named one of Seattle's top ten sushi restaurants. Must agree. Nestled in the revitalized area of Pike, Pine and Madison Streets, the exterior is very unassuming but inside is a zen like atmosphere. Though it is Very loud. We tried several rolls. Tarantula, 12th Ave, Pine Street (which was a daily fresh sheet special) and the vegetarian Wonderland Roll were all standout. The sweet chili Aoli is divine. The rolls are a bit thinner than some other sushi restaurants but we found that we actually preferred it as we didn't get full nearly as fast. Much more enjoyable for sharing and sampling! Now Momiji is checked off our list of the 10 best in Seattle but we will definitely go back when in the area. Really close to Neumos. Lots of paid parking lots directly behind on 13th.

Beautiful interior and gorgeous classic Japanese garden. Reminded me of places I visited in Kyoto. Pricey for dinner, so I would do their Happy Hour, which is decent.

Went here with a group of friends last night. It looks unassuming and small on the outside, but there's plenty of space in the back! The sushi was excellent. We shared a few rolls and also the salmon nigiri of the day. Everything tasted great and the fish was high quality. A good spot to get sushi in Seattle.

Quite a large menu allowing to escape from the sushi only restaurants. Had noodles with seafood and saw a lot of other tempting dishes. Good service.

4 of us total went here and had a very nice time. There was a sake that one of our friends had before that was a sweeter, slightly fizzy sake. I normally don't like sake but this was quite tasty. Good selection of wine, beer, sake and the food was all very good. A bit pricey but overall a very nice meal.

Went here with a bunch of sushi-loving friends that were thrilled with their meals. I had tempura and it was delicious. The sushi were real works of art!!

We went for dinner during happy hour while visiting family in the Seattle area. We enjoy sushi, but live in Detroit, so look forward to good, fresh sushi when we visit....Momiji delivered! The food and drinks were excellent! We even had a self-proclaimed non-sushi eater with us who also found many things she liked on the menu as well. We got there at the beginning of happy hour on a Friday evening and had no problem getting a table and service, but it was starting to get pretty busy by the time we were leaving.

The soft undertone lighting, the rock garden in the center of the restaurant, the waitstaff are all phenomenal. The menu list is quite extensive and impressive. That being said, the sushi/sashimi leave much, much, much to be desired. The rolls are suited to the westernized palate and quite often, much too sweet or creamy (sauces and mayo everywhere). The oyster shooter, ahi poke, black cod (not as good as Shiro's) and sashimi were all pleasantly delicious so we had high hopes for the rest of the sushi/sashimi. We had numerous rolls (Moonraker, Flaming Tuna, Dragon, etc), but the bottom line is that you don't actually taste the fish. Maybe that is the goal, in which case it is great for those individuals who appreciate that. Restaurant is great for western tastes, but not a truly authentic sushi/sashimi restaurant.

The offerings are broader than most sushi places and some non sushi dishes were good and innovative - for example they make their own tofu which had a unique quality I never experienced even while living a year in Japan. Some were just odd - like the grilled enoki in which only the Seaweed seemed charred and not to good effect. And some were just meh, like the Ohitashi which was very average and modest in size for this common dish. The house rolls are quite good and well sized even if they are a bit pricey. Service was good and large but well divided interior welcoming. If they can be more consistent, I would elevate from a 4 to 5 star review.

The location is beautiful, with a fantastic inner courtyard and nice atmosphere with very good service. The food was excellent as well, with a beautiful display and rich taste. My bourbon came with a huge ice ball that made it special.
Nice dinner
The momiji is a great discover for me, this is was my first time in Seattle and I really appreciate the city and the food and the atmosphere of this restaurant. The sushi and sashimi were so good as well the soup. Good the cocktail montenegroni.
