Get the BOMBS!

By Matthew R |

There aren't many good places to secure sushi in Bushwick. Thankfully, there's Momo. Momo compares favorably to any of the top tier sushi haunts in Manahattan. When ordering, be sure to get plenty of bombs. They're excellent. Additionally, the various grades of wasabi soy sauces are an excellent compliment. Seating is a little uncomfortable (think German beer hall benches), but the food is worth a trip.

Dinner date

By nicole z |

We were greeted by a nice guy and had a pleasant server. This has nothing to do with the service... Seaweed salad- very good and nice value. Ordered several hand rolls, sushi rolls, special wild salmon. All very fresh and yummy but ambience is awful and we spent over $100 and left starving... Very sad

Outstanding!

By Arun21 |

Was referred to this place by a good friend and was not disappointed. My bar was moderately low given that we were in Bushwick, but I was blown away. It's pretty reasonably priced, ambiance is great and the food is EXCELLENT. Must go if you're looking to get away from the typical Manhattan sushi staples like blue ribbon. Definitely will be going back here very soon.

Definitely worth traveling to Brooklyn for

By TravelingNYCGourmet |

Both sushi and cooked dishes, focusing on small plates. I honestly think it is as good as Manhattan's finest (Nobu, Sugiyama, Yasuda, Gari) with a regular rotation of new, interesting, and tasty dishes. Very friendly staff and great service. Try the dry cucumber soda -- it goes well with everything.

Don't Tell ANYONE About This Place

By STA-904 |

It's the best kept sushi secret in all of NYC. Great atmosphere, like you're in a secret ninja sushi shack or something, communal seating. The sushi is beyond words. The entrees equally as amazing. They also have a good selection of sakes and a knowledgeable staff. Worth the trip from Manhattan. SO close to the Morgan Ave. L stop.

My favorite sushi in NYC

By LukeRiverside |

this unassuming place kicks butt! The roast their own seaweed for god sake!!!

Fantastic, creative suishi in warm friendly hip place

By Adam R |

Wow, was that fun! Some of the most creative, delicious sushi I've ever had. Simple, elegant sushi but done with interesting twists. Definitely do anything they offer with quail eggs, tuna tartar. The Gunkan platform sushi -- wow. The Party Bomb of various sushi made it all a great deal. The staff was chill, cool, gorgeous, and service is playful performance art. MoMo came out to say hello, kiss kiss.

Great food

By Karl B |

Found this little gem through trip advisor! Myself and family love sushi and anything Japanese, it didn't disappoint. Lovely food and great service, my only grip was that we walked past it several times before we actually found it! Keep an eye out or you'll miss an absolute gem!

Delightful late lunch

By sasquiz |

Momos came recommended to us by a friend , and the food did not disappoint. The sushi was fresh, delicious, with a signature Momo twist . The vegetarian gyoza were the best vege gyoza I have ever eaten. All sushi dishes came out with a bevy of tasty sauces and pickled veg. Unfortunately we only ate here once, I was hoping to try a ramen bowl during our stay but did not get the opportunity. Next time !

Very good sushi !!

By Paolo_26_06_94 |

The sushi was good, high quality, great atmosphere and great miso soup.. they also sapporo on draft ! Prices are a bit high but you're gonna get quality!

Subpar

By derkman |

Ended up here because the wait time at Roberta’s was ridiculous. The shoyu ramen was lacking in flavor but the mazeman was good. Besides the food though, the servers looked pretty unhappy and that led to a crappy experience.

Outstanding sushi in an unexpected place!

By ChristineBindert |

A hole in the wall and boy what a surprise: outstanding food and service. Excellent salads, sushi and much more! a real find in Bushwick, fun atmosphere, friendly young staff providing excellent advice. Top notch and half price compared to Manhattan. Cash only but the ATM outside the door saved us. Reservation only if you take tasting menu ( $ 50 or above) otherwise go early or you ll wait. Long communal tables.

Awesome service, SLAMMIN' sushi

By PrityNPunk887 |

Popped in here on a whim and thankful I did. It was nice to see they had tofu cream cheese in their Philly rolls. They also had some options with guacamole in them. Decently priced for the area, and the server was super friendly and attentive to us.

A cut above most

By Bookistan5 |

Go here for fresh sushi, not for monster sushi rolls. The food is creative but the emphasis is on fresh fish. Prices are modest, although so are the serving sizes. Most of the seating is along long picnic benches - comfortable enough, but not exactly a place to linger. Service was very friendly. Will be happy to return.

Good experience

By Ramondeamberes |

We went twice in 1 week. Excellent Mazeman, on the other hand the Wagyu steak sushi of $15 is absolutely not worth it. Overall terrific experience. Don’t let you intimidate by the shabby exterior. We will definitely come back here.

Good food, small portions, big prices !

By waimea1310 |

The head waiter is a bit odd but nice, the food is pretty good yet different from any other japanese restaurant I've been to. The portions are very small but jez the prices are high !! (nov. 2014)

Fav Asian spot

By astricy |

I can't get enough of this spot!!! Even if your not a hardcore sushi lover, there's so many other options to keep you more than satisfied!! Combinations are so on point and I have never ate anything that wasn't perfection in my mouth!!! Fav dishes usually are noodles!!! Also cool atmosphere, easy chill, just remember cash only!

Spectacular -- Brooklyn at its best

By bernardwelt |

We only tried a couple of kinds of sushi here, which testifies to the variety of vegan dishes available. But it's about the best dive-type ramen place I've ever been. Appetizers were extraordinary, especially a miso eggplant we practically fought over. (My friends say the bombs are great; haven't had one yet.) Sauces are excellent. Very high-quality vegan food and excellent pork belly for me, so everyone's happy. The wait staff are warm and friendly (and you have to love servers who come upon a discussion of PrEP and condom use without batting an eyelash)--and the owner is kind of an archetypal tavern-keeper, making everyone feel welcome and dispensing hugs as they leave. (You should probably request one. They're good hugs.)

Excellent

By sju04 |

Went by a friends recommendation Small place with a non specific door n behind is very mechanical place serving very good sushi Enjoyed each and everything we ordered

Mo mo wonderful

By NMMonaLisa |

The service and food was wonderful. The sushi delicious, the unfiltered sake great, fried chicken super. The owner brought over another sake selection and we all enjoyed a toast to my daughter's Parsons New School for Design graduation. It is small but worth the wait. The seating is a bonding experience. We sang happy birthday to someone and the owner had a special musically trained young girl sing a solo to the birthday boy which was worth a ticket purchase. My daughter lives in Brooklyn. Need to get out of the city this is a great excuse!

Great sushi

By Nuttastck |

It was my first solo night in new york so i thought i would treat myself to dinner so i went to momo. It was really busy and vibrant and all the severs seemed really fun and bubbly and really engaged with their customers so i was looking forward to my turn! I got some sushi and fried chicken, both of which were fabulous! Sadly the great service i had witness while waiting wasnt my experience. Dont get me wrong, they were really friendly and on to it, but not as chatty and playful. It was my first ever solo dining experience so maybe thats just how it is. Next time il bring a book!

delectable cuisine

By C H |

Recently had a nice dinner here. Ordered the chicken shoyu ramen and the momo salad, green tea ice cream, and Genmaicha (brown rice tea). Appetizers were delectable. I think they were mushrooms, sweet potatoes and chile peppers soak in a sauce. Ramen soup came in a big bowl and the salad was large portion as well. Service was good and fast.

Great sushi in a minimal chic setting

By Abitlo |

This is great authentic sushi served in a simple paired back setting. Big communal tables make it great for big groups. Unpretentious, delicious and good value for money! Would go again

soooooo gooooood!

By dina g |

The food was just so good at Momo's. unpretentious, fresh, interesting, tasty, just really good. You can have the standard sushi but you can ask for pretty much any combination. In addition we had the Japanese fried chicken which was scrumptious as well as the rice croutons which were a really nice surprise and miso soup as a starter. Prices are very reasonable as well - $50 for 4 of us - w/out drinks) On top of it all - the owner, Philip, is a very cool guy who seems sincerely happy to welcome all and make sure you enjoy the meal. Overall the atmosphere is friendly and easygoing with long tables and benches making it a bit of a communal eating experience- in short - if you are in the neighborhood or just want to check out a cool and good place - it's just near the Morgan station on the L line. Enjoy!

Highly overrated and expensive

By TravellingLimo |

I had the party bombs, they were expensive for $19 and each bomb was a very small half a ball of sushi rice. There were 12 of these small half balls in all. I was not even full at the end and had to eat something else. The sushi rice was not fresh either. I've had better elsewhere and for much more value. Would not visit again.

The Best Sushi Ever!!! & Greatest Ambience!!!

By Marga C |

The food is amazing, the atmosphere just perfect. If you are a Broolynite you will agree with me. If you are a tourist this is a NoN turistic Place ;) but is Ideal for travelers and adventurers that like to mix with the locals. Familiar faces if you are a regular. Excellent personal attention. Lovely Avocado Salad <3. I am a vegan and the owner ( I guess he was, or at least he must be the manager ;) ) was very kind to tell me the soup I ordered had fish stock in it ( The Miso), I didn´t finish eating ( I was like in the 2nd spoon ) and he took it out of my check. <3 They have plenty of vegan options , and I went nuts ordering several rolls from their menu. Of course I went there another time and invited my roomate! They recognized me and were even kinder! I am bringing mole to him on my next visit for sure!! He told me he loves it!. She also loved it!! We will trade sushi for mole. I couldn´t go every day because I went to work in Manhattan the other days, but otherwise I would have eaten there every day of my stay in Williamsburg. Im adopting this restaurant and Varet Street as my second home!

Fresh ingredients make for very good sushi

By Milept |

Our group of four were seated along the long bench picnic style tables and made comfortable with good drinks. One of our party wasn't a sushi person but the option of pork chops was welcomed and was delicious. The staff was very helpful at making suggestions and the recommendations were yummy. We very much enjoyed our dinner and experience.

It's good sushi - for ridiculous money

By Kobaja |

My subject says it all. The sushi is good. It's not insane good but good. It all becomes very relative though when you consider the bill. Only for that reason I cannot recommend this place at all. If 120+ USD for two people don't matter to you that might lead to a different conclusion...

Fun Place, not Best Sushi, but Hey its Bk!

By BorkdlynNYC |

The owner of this establishment is a model business owner - always walking around to make sure everyone is fully content, stands outside and invites you in, very fun and welcoming vibes on inside. Its morgan ave area of BK so expect average sushi (place is for college kids...). But its a fun spot to go to, and Im really glad this business opened up.

Delicious. Fresh. Contemporary

By Adventure S |

A fresh; fun sushi place to go with friends, this spot is busy and vibrant with amazing sushi choices. Definitely something for every sushi lover here. BBQ eel, yellowtail, spicy tuna. So delicious! We tried a lot of items and had a great time. Can't wait to return!

Best sushi in Bushwick

By Imissucico |

Nice spot few blocks away from Morgan Av. station. The sushi is just superb, both the more classic and the unusual kinds. The place is tiny but comfortable and the staff is friendly (we had a nice chat and a lot of nice advices).

Fresh & delicious

By Bissan A |

I went for dinner with my sister and had a variety of dishes: lotus root and seaweed salads, vegan dumplings, Japanese aubergine with garlic... all were really good. The Salmon sushi was outstanding.

Awesome Sushi!

By Matthew C |

Amazing food, great service, totally recommended! Prices seemed fair given the fresh, high quality sushi. Next time I'm in New York I will be making a special trip back to this place. Well worth the subway trip from Manhattan!

Best sushi in NY

By LilyQJ |

If you like sushi at all, go to momo sushi shack. It's worth the trip to moderately inconvenient Bushwick. The best things we had were: Pork Betty, Party Bomb, friend chicken and the ebi hand rolls. Gyoza were mediocre, but nothing else was. The waiters are also good and will definitely help you make sense of the long menu if you'd like.

Great food, great place!

By Annie The Jackie |

I really loved the food and the vibe of this little place. Try new plates from the menu, they won't disappoint you. I enjoyed the long social table and the Japanese austerity style in the middle of Brooklyn. Service is informal but always polite. Prices are ok.

Real Deal

By perennialtravel |

It was a surprise to enter this restaurant built in a former garage, true Williamsburg style. Since this we heard this was an offshoot of Samurai Mama we had high expectations and they were certainly met. This is a hip place, the counters were perhaps 15 feet long - and so were the benches - all made from single slabs cut from the same tree. Modern and traditionally Japanese at the same time. Our company of 6 ordered various dishes and shared. Everything that was served was uniformly excellent and because we did not order drinks with the meal the total bill was reasonable. We will definitely recommend MOMO to our friends and return.

Tasty and Creative Sushi

By Ian V |

I went to the restaurant to order take-out, but it was crowded and had a really nice ambiance. The door into the 'shack' is spring-loaded and hard to open at first, but that's just a small annoyance. The food was creative and delicious -- I wish I had stayed in Brooklyn longer to go back!

Good, but nothing impressive

By Marcelo M |

Is a good place, interesting distribution of tables, very good food, but probably Chileans are accustomed to best quality/price/size. My friends (europeans) really enjoyed his food.

FABULOUS!

By SS |

Really excellent sushi- totally fresh and quality ingredients. Try the sushi bombs, the are da bomb! The owner is always on hand to lend suggestions or provide a free sample or a drink to those who have to wait. It’s loud and it’s not near big enough to hold everyone who wants to dine there. But, I can’t say enough positive comments about this place. Go there. Go early and go often!

Excellent sushi and lots of surprises

By dogeyedoctor |

Be prepared not to share. We were wonderfully surprised by this quiet shack of deliciousness. The sushi is sooooo fresh. The bombs are the "bomb." Delicious slices of goodness onto of a round rice ball. The gyoza were made with this interestingly crunchy topping. A bit pricey, but a great sushi experience. Go early as this place gets busy!

I love mono sushi bar

By Mikirohn |

I have been these restaurant... Great food and unique ambient and also the guys is very nice! My favorite place when I want to Brooklyn in bogart. Michele from Milano

Culinary Perfection hiding in Bushwick

By Tina D |

I am not a person who cares that much about Sushi. I'm never the friend that suggests it. I've been to famous sushi places, but I'm still partial to fancy American food. That's why my reaction to Momo is seriously authentic and not skewed by a love for Japanese food in general. I went with a party of four- two manhattanites and two Brooklyn, and we opted for the tasting menu because there was no way to decide on all the delectable sounding menu items. Each dish was presented with its description, the region it came from and any other special information they wanted to share. Each time something came out we were excited by its presentation. Things that might otherwise seem boring (tofu salad for example) were prepared in such a way that the flavors blew our minds. No- seriously- it really was that fantastic. We were treated like old friends by everyone and were delighted by how much they cared about what they were serving us and how it tasted. I can't say that I will be a sushi convert in general- but anytime someone wants to have a special night out with a special meal, Momo will be at the top of my list.

The sushi bunker

By sebu12 |

Momo sushi shack is a beautiful, strange and tasty experience in east Williamsburg. Not really attractive at the first sight, a little austere, the food served in this dark and uncommon space is suddenly bringing a bright light. Simple and effective, here is a sushi restaurant who try to respect some Japanese tradition. The atmosphere that was so annoying at first is now helping the customer to deeply enjoy an amazing food totally connected to his palate and his senses. The "bombs sushi" are, like their name indicates, an explosion in the mouth. The rest of the menu is a blessing of flavor and culinary escape. Our only disappointment was the salmon herb. Bland, without any note of freshness. But it's a tiny detail compare to the very good meal we had. Our waiter, full of energy and attentive, was as major plus and an amazing part of the experience. A place you should go, at least once in your life

Snack before

By shermansara37 |

Momo sushi shack is probably one of the only “boogie” sushi places in the Bushwick area. So of course they can get away with extremely skimpy and over priced portions of sushi. The staff was “nice enough” but you could tell they didn’t like their jobs, creating awkward tension as the customer. My friend ordered a 6 piece roll, each roll being the size of a quarter. I order a salmon bowl consisting of barely any salmon and mainly scallions. Overall if you’re in the area and desperate for the sit down upscale sushi experience go to Momo but don’t expect to fill up without spending over $50.

One of the best sushi I have ever eaten

By Guen |

I have been here thanks to the advices of a friend and I will go back every time I will be in NY. It is located in Williamsburg and a very simple place. It is just a room, I think it was a garage, with big tables that you share with other people. The menu is very rich and the quality of sushi is really the best. It's difficult to find a good sushi as this was. It is really full so is better to go there early.

just GO! (amazing)

By CINDY P |

I loved the sushi here! Not too expensive, nice vibe in the restaurant, lovely staff. Just GO! (It's a bit of a search to find the place, but don't give up)

This is where you get sushi in Brooklyn

By N333B |

A little unconventional, a lot delicious. Get the party bomb and a few other rolls and share. I've been told by friends that their non-sushi dishes are fantastic but I haven't tried them. They serve a yuzu sake that tastes like a citrus cocktail.

INCREDIBLE!!!!!!

By Gabriela Z |

I love this place!, the food , the food options!, and the customer care ... was a very good time with my son, who knows this place... love it!!!!

Perfect!

By Taylor and Natalie M |

Sometimes you find a place that is simply Perfect! This place is it. I could write more and more about how the fish was fresh and well balanced but of course it is. True in every good sushi joint. However, this place has the wow factor. The it's better than everywhere else factor. Only go here! Thank you for existing! I will be back many, many time!

Great Sushi but Terrible Service!!!

By Daniel D |

I have been in this Sushi restaurant few nights ago, the atmosphere is unique and the quality of the food was great. I was first disappointed with the limited selection of wines. The negative part of the night came with the bill! We were a party of five and I do not know if it's a policy from the restaurant or the waiter tried to fool me! They added a gratuity of 20% after taxes, which basically means that the gratuity was 22%. I work in the restaurant business as well and I never experienced something like that. I would like to get an answer from the manager or whoever is in charge to better understand if this is the gratuity policy...

Good Sushi in Brooklyn

By Damepetitpouez |

I discovered that place while visiting my little brother who lives in Buschwick. The staff is very nice and helpful, sushis are good, atmosphere is cool. Pricewise, very good quality/price ratio. Enjoy !

Yummmmm......

By LeighSydneyChina195 |

Momo is well worth a visit when you are in Brooklyn or if you are in NY, anywhere..... it is not very much to look at from the outside and the bench seating and communal tables are less than salubrious. But it has a distinct style and flavours of Japanese cafe food. Whenever I am in NY I always visit Momo at least once and usually more times.

Great sushi in Bushwick!

By HerestoLife |

I went here with friends and got a large plate of assorted sashimi, and another of various rolls. We also had a pitcher of sake to share. Afterwards we received a complimentary pitcher of sake. Everything was fantastic. I love the small but bustling atmosphere. The staff is very lively and into what they do. Fantastic sushi, decent prices, great atmosphere, great service. Definitely recommended.

Fresh and extremly delicious

By mira g |

Very nicly hidden place with amazing selection of fresh sushi. Dont use menu, just believe their recommendation and they will take care of you and dinner will change into extremly delicious event. Just go there and try:-)))

fantastic sushi

By Rahi S |

This is hands down the best sushi i ever had. staff was great and recommended us the best choice. i love it !!

Great food, great place, great vibe

By Rosanna D |

This place is great! Everything about it: the location, the space, the service, the food, the concept, is all top notch. If you go in the winter as I did, just be careful to sit as far away from the door as possible because you'll get hit with a blast of cold wind every time the doors opens/closes.

Unusual and reasonably-priced sushi

By Andrew K |

Ignore the Brooklyn-stereotypical customers: full beards for the guys, elaborate tattoos for the ladies, and come here for the unusual sushi. My wife and stared with a cold sake for her (Tedorigawa, $14), large hot sake for me (Hoyo, $14), and went on to a delicious Hijiki/Wakame seaweed salad (only $5!), and Handmade Vegan Gyoza (oyster mushroom, napa, chive, $9), 2 Spicy scallop in black paper cones ($7 each!) and a Hamachi ($7). We ended with a scoop each of black sesame and green tea ice cream. What a wonderful meal!

Superb Food and really cool place

By Kim N |

The place is amazing, inside a rustic sick. Super cool and really not pretentious. The food is delicious and presented in a very original way. Full of vegetarian and vegan options, it really made me fall in love. Highly recommended

Reverse the expectations your form based upon seeing their door

By Arivoyager |

One of the first ways that I knew the place would be great was discovering through conversation with the owner of the place that he used to be friends with my former boss of 14 years ago - the owner of a popular seafood restaurant in Juno Beach, Florida. Random personal connection aside, I ordered a variety of raw fish and Japanese appetizers that I'd never had before - such as cockles and wild boar sausage that was amazing. The sushi here was phenomenal. The sake was delicious. If it seems like I'm using a thesaurus to simply use superlatives to describe their food - it's because it was that good. Following my first visit I went back twice that week to eat more and was only dissuaded when I realized I'd gone beyond my budget for eating out. The place isn't very expensive, but it's not cheap for those on a student's budget either. The entrance is somewhat unusual but the inside is semi-cafeteria style and somewhat dark, but charming rather than spooky. The service was great and this continues to be a place that I go to whenever I have the ability to go.

Surprised in Bushwick

By Holly137 |

I went to the Bushwick Open Studios art show this weekend which was a great, fun experience in itself. The neighborhood is young and gritty. Of course after all that walking we were starving. I saw this small restaurant filled with family seating style bench and table seating. It had an interesting menu. It was filled with young foodies enjoying amazing curated Japanese food. It was fun and especially loved the Bombs. The staff was very helpful. I can`t wait to go back .

Bring a toy

By SeanTrewick |

You'll have more chance of getting a reservation if you bring them a toy or some description. Fantastic little restaurant. I would definitely return next time I'm in the city!

Go here and get great sushi

By ADanishMan |

Next to the overrated Roberta's is this great sushi place with their own interpretation of sushi. Placed in what seems to be an old garage serving good food. Very kind staff, talkative. Perhaps kind of difficult to find but worth the try.

Bomb sushi 👍🏻

By sju04 |

The bomb Sushi are a must try. Sushi served with a twist ..only thing it comes in a severing on 3 ... which is kinda less.. Sushi roll r nice too again size is small..Best is the way they serve wasabi n soy premix ..

Excellent Sushi, Great Drinks, Great Options for Fish Eaters and Vegans Alike!

By AlePad2013 |

My sister is a sushi loving vegan and is usually hard to impress! She loved Momo Sushi so much that every time we visit her in Brooklyn, we have to take her here for a treat. As fish eaters ourselves, my partner and I were totally floored by their fantastic sushi. So fresh and tasty. Their firecracker (or something like that) maki roll is fantastic. It is unpretentious and awesome. You sit with others and enjoy your micro privacy with others, which is kinda neat. Their alcoholic and non alcoholic beverage offerings are great. My sister had a cucumber soda that she very much enjoyed! Love this place, and its well priced to top it all!

Party Bomb!

By Emma Z |

We had the sushi bombs "Party Bombs" & a spicy tuna roll. This is a cool spot, small though so get your name on the list!
