A Stop on a Culinary Tour

By KnickerbockerJones |

I stopped by this location with my husband as part of a North Beach/Little Italy culinary Walking Tour. This was the last location. I really like the ambiance and I had a delicious cab. The only reason for the 4 stars is the pizza margarita was not the best. I will try this place again and order something different. I highly enjoyed the wine.

Fabulous Italian

By ald233 |

This italian restaurant is located in the heart of North Beach. There are many well-known eateries near by. The atmosphere is friendly and exudes italian hospitality. The owner talked to us several times and carefully listened to us as well. The food is simply outstanding. Probably one of the best lasagna dinners I have ever had. We bought a bottle of italian wine from the Puglia area. We had a fantastic evening and experience. Only street parking, which is typical for San Francisco. Prices very reasonable.

A Stop on a Walking Food Tour

By SkydivingSkier |

This place was one stop while on a walking food tour. We had the margarita style pizza and the cannoli. The food was very tasty, but the chianti was terrible. It tasted old. I think because we were on a tour, we didn't get full customer service. The waiter never came by to ask how was our meal and I had to get up and ask for water refills. The bottle of olive oil on the table was empty and when I asked for another, he gave me an unopened bottle and didn't bother to open it.

Highly recommended

By osvi |

Truly authentic Italian restaurant, owned and run by Italians. The owner Maurizio is very welcoming and the whole staff is kind and professional. Food is great! The best Italian restaurant in the area. The appetizers with bruschetta, mozzarella caprese, fried calamari and a selection of cheese and ham were to die for! Definately a fine address to add to your visit bucket list!

THERE WAS A BUG IN MY WATER

By Katherine C |

THERE WAS A BUG IN MY WATER DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. After asking to talk with the owner or manager of the place, he NEVER came, he NEVER seemed to be concerned about having bug water served at one of his tables. How is this even possible? Dude, I am paying $27 per a plate of pasta and you can't even show up to my table to at least say SORRY?? The waiter said "this has never happened before" but because of the way the manager and the waiter were acting, I doubt this was the first time. WILL NEVER COME BACK.

Mona Less

By SmithDrKat |

A mess of decorations with statues chained to walls and just a jumble of “stuff”. The staff was nice but they had 5 offerings for salmon and no crab other than crab cakes. A quarter of the ribeye steak was all fat and so good to Bono’s instead.

Always a must for dinner when I go to San Francisco.

By 500SHarris |

I made reservations for dinner weeks before arriving to San Francisco . As usual it was a busy night and the owner gave us complimenteray presecco because we had to wait. I did not mind the wait because I was not going anywhere else. Amazing owner and staff with great food at a great porce for San Francisco. Everyone in the place seemed happy and enjoying the liveliness. I always tell people to go here to eat and I always come back !

Nice place, food needs work

By J W |

We had a party of 5 and we all ordered different things - it was pretty much unanimous that the food is mediocre at best. I give it a ‘2’ instead of ‘1’ because it’s a fun ambiance and the waiter was great.

Italian diner

We went here in little Italy for diner without reservations Place is quite small but very nice ambiance Food was plentiful and big portions, order to share ! Prices and service good Noise level high

Authentic Italian

By HatcherAZ |

We ended a food walking tour here. We had a great little table on the street and were served a pizza along with a glass of wine. The place was so fun, but the best part was Maurizo who kept coming out to check on us. Come to find out he was the 4 generation family member of this place. How awesome is that! These are the type of places that we need to patron and preserve from big money corporations taking over. Our tour ended and our tour guide left us, we continued to stay for another bottle of wine and ended with a cannoli. However, it was Maurizo who made the experience the best.

A great Neapolitan experience

By Arturo |

We had an excellent pasta and a delicious Neapolitan pizza. The very friendly service with us, always looking for you to have a good experience. The place on weekends is quite crowded but on weekdays it can be very accessible. On the outskirts of the Italian quarter, a good experience at a good cost.

Delicious Italian food with outdoor dining

By LHS329 |

We've eaten here before and came back because we loved it. They have a really nice outdoor area now that is enclosed on three sides with heaters, table cloths, and comfortable chairs. You can also eat inside the lovely restaurant. It is so charming. We were here for an early lunch so we were the only outside diners. We had the Family Antipasti with the house chianti and pinto. Perfection. And, we had dessert. It was a dark chocolate truffle filled with ice cream. So. Good. The service was impeccable, as always. Mona Lisa was a treat, again.

Fantastico!

By Relax700531 |

Very authentic Italian food and experience. It is bustling, but the staff and owner were very welcoming. Didn't sample a lot of the food but the margherita pizza was excellent -- the crust was light and airy. The wine was molto bene!

20 % tip added to bill by staff....

By ilovegoodfood100 |

Food OK. Service OK. Wine cold at the start. 20 %tip was added to the bill without asking. I paid and walked away. If they see you are tourist.... You've lost. They were sure they will never see me again..... 👍Yes.

Made in Italy restaurant

By mau.cesar1988 |

An Italian lunch in the Italy neighborhood of San Francisco - California. We had two first courses and a dessert. I would say the pasta with sauce is OK. The carbonara a little distant from the Italian one... but passable. Very good tiramisu. I would say good quality/price. Friendly and professional waiter. Let's go Salerno!

Very nice Italian resturant

By Roland H |

Excellent food. Good service. Nice space in the heart of North Beach. Octopus, Spaghetti Chitara Pomodoro, and Panna Cotta were all excellent. Enjoyed a nice btl of Etna Bianco and amaro afterwards. Will be back next time in SFO.

Delicious gluten free options

By Brian C |

Excellent gluten free options. Pizza and pasta were delicious. And very friendly, helpful and experienced staff as well. Located in the lovely North Beach area. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Delicious

Perfect, a beautiful setting and beautiful hearty and delicious plates. Italy has San Francisco. In addition, the service is in Italian

A Hidden Gem!

By SofiaSinatra |

If you are looking for authentic Italian food, Mona Lisa is a the place to go! Every time my family and I visit San Francisco, we always make sure to stop by this restaurant. The antipasti platter is a great starter and all of their pastas are delicious! The service is great and the environment is very "cozy" feeling. I would recommend this hidden gem to anyone who visits California.

The pizza was beyond!

By Benjamin |

We hadnt had to wait for a table even the restaurant was very bussy. It seemt well organised. The food was really fresh and the pizza mamma mia! As you can see i travel alot all over the world, worldwide this pizza was under my top 5! Very impressiv.

Great North Beach Italian Restaurant

By 1978malibu |

The Mona Lisa is a fine North Beach Italian restaurant. The food was delicious. The service was great. It is not a large restaurant, but we had a table for two with sufficient space.

Sunday Dinner

By Leonore D |

Excellent seafood and pasta. Reminiscent of dining at the best seafood restaurants in Naples, Italy or Sicily. Waiters are very pleasant and helpful. Wish we could go back soon. Fantastico.

Neopolitan meets American red sauce

By FlyHigh1010 |

Good pizza a cross between napolitan style & american. Slightly salty hand raised crust. With red sauce heavy on the garlic... Interesting eclectic interior with old school style pictures of owner plus various celebraties

Good

By traveladventures2018 |

We went for my birthday dinner. It was good Italian food. Tons on the menu. There is something for everyone.

Unique place but ok waiter

By cmorgan50 |

We went around 11am on Monday. There were seven of us and we asked if we could have separate checks. The waiter wouldn't give us a straight answer. He said that if he gets busy he wouldn't be able to. There was one other table there that had two people. We really needed to know because we could have picked another place and told the waiter & finally he said he would. Food was good but not great over any other place.

Best Italian food

By Daniela D |

Best food but not the best service. Maybe cos they are too busy. We were in SF for 5 days and we had to repeat this restaurant cos we liked it very much.

Large portions

By blonnka |

We wanted a taste of Little Italy, so we stopped and shared an entree. So good! There was plenty for both of us, and the walk back to our hotel was short and easy. There’s plenty of comfortable outdoor seating, but know that to go inside, you need to have a Covid vaccine card. A copy on your phone is good enough.

Excellent food and service

By johnsutk |

Excellent restaurant, delicious food, very agile and first-class service. And especially the treatment of the waiters and the owner is priceless. Highly recommended if you have a stay in San Francisco.

Awesome food and drinks, great service

By jeff d |

Had a great meal here. I had one of their pizza's, it was outstanding. Everything at the table was delightful, including the staff. Excellent lasagna. Their Limoncello blended with lemon gelato was also exceptional. Parked in the ramp a block away, easy and cheap. They had fortune cookie sayings on the spots, and we got to park by the restaurant's Fiat, which is awesome.

Yum

By Marianne S |

Great food. The bruschetta was EXCELLENT! The veal was fantastic. Definitely worth the money. Loud and bustling but we could definitely hear each other. Fun atmosphere.

Incredibilmente Delizioso!

By Greg L |

We visited San Francisco for Fleet Week and the Columbus Day Parade. My wife and I split a salad and split an order of the Chicken Parmagana and Rigatoni Carbonara. Oh so good. Large portions. Great service. The price was reasonable for a tourist area. We ate outside and because it was a beautiful day, nearly everybody else did to. Great for relaxing and people watching. We did not feel rushed at all.

Homemade and authentic cuisine, amazing service from Giovanni M.. Well located! Will definitely come back during a next visit!

Felt like being with friends

By Go632226 |

Busy night in SF with the Italian event. We stopped by to check the menu and ended up chatting with the owner. We had good pizzas and tiramisu, service was polite and prompt and the atmosphere pleasant. To an Italian in SF from the Italians in London, we wanted to thank you for the nice evening. Alla prossima!

very popular Italian Restaurant

By Peter H |

We have been going to Mona Lisa for year. Was always our favorite place to eat while in the city. However the last few times, the food has just been average. We have been there the other day. As always it's very popular. We had no reservation and had to wait for a little while. Not a problem. But it seems there no system for seating waiting people is not very good. A few people got impatient. Once we got a seat, service was ok. The owner was very friendly with us. The table we had was not the best, next to the kitchen and we had a cold draft from the open door. It was also noisy. I had Osso Buco, was there was no bone which normally comes with Osso Buco. We had two main dishes, one glass of Chardonney and total bill incl. tips came to $ 86.00. Probably we will look for another place to eat the next time we are in the city.

Unfriendly waiter

By Pebble_Ultimate |

Was looking to eat authentic Italian food and saw good reviews on this restaurant. We were looking at the menu at the door when the pro active owner talked us into the restaurant. The waiter serving our table was without smile or friendliness that we saw he did at other tables. We waved for attention to order but he was too busy to attend us. After the meal, same attitude from the waiter. Food is alright but the service makes the dining experience unpleasant.

Lovely meal

By Caron |

We tried to get into Original Joe’s but it was rammed and then we considered the Stinking Rose but my kids didn’t like the smell so we tried next door at Mona Lisa. I looked at some reviews after we’d sat down and decided to give it a try and really we were not disappointed! We had some bread which was fresh and warm from the oven and then each of us had a pasta dish - the kids with a bolognese, I had the wild boar parpedelle and my husband had the seafood pasta. We shared a bottle of wine that was $60. It was all delicious - piping hot, tasty and came out fairly quickly too. The kids polished theirs off which is always a win and we did the same. We all had dessert, not a big choice but my daughter and I shared a chocolate lava cake which was delicious, husband had the panna cotta and son just had some vanilla ice cream. This is not American-Italian food - it’s proper Italian but being from the UK this was fine with us as we aren’t overly familiar with American Italian food anyway. The food was authentic Italian and we love that. Total came to $220 + tip but while it wasn’t cheap I have come to realise this is standard for San Fran. Delicious meal and good service, highly recommend.

Quick service

By Lisa |

We came here for lunch on our way down to wharf. We shared a pizza, it was delicious, they served bread first and we had a glass of wine. Nice place, gets crowded quickly and very close seating. We would come again for sure!

waitstaff made it great

By tangojohnDallas |

While the food was good the waitstaff and atmosphere make it a special place. Place was very crowded and popular with both tourists and locals. A bit pricey but this is San Francisco.

Optimal

By Luca C |

Excellent Italian lunch with pizza, pasta and meatballs. The best in the area.. after days of eating tacos and sandwiches we needed it!! The staff helpful and friendly

Freshly made pasta and incredible service!

By EatonTheFly |

This restaurant was a mistake gone great. Taxi dropped us at the wrong side of the road and we decided to take a look at the restaurants. Mona Lisa had a nice greeting gentleman and informative of the menu choices and ingredients! The fresh/homemade pasta was awesome! The veal piccata was thinly pounded and cooked perfectly! The gnocchi was light and tasty, a reliable pasta Bolognese....

Excellent Dinner

By Presto67 |

Looking for good Italian food while in Frisco, head to Mona Lisa. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Great portions. This is a must.

An upbeat place in North Beach

By Proqual |

Welcoming atmosphere, fascinating decor, extensive menu includes children's choices, a place you can practice your Italian and enjoy bountiful servings of well-prepared Italian dishes.

Knowing the Night in SAN Francisco

By Laura d |

Good quality in all products. Very good service. Many variety of Italian food and original pizzas. To enjoy!

Meh-mediocre at best

By Lisa |

Mediocre at best. For what they charge I was expecting a a bit more of a dining experience. Large group of loud drunk women celebrating a birthday - we couldn’t carry on a conversation-thankfully they soon left. Menu items are more Italian (rather than Italian American-which is what we were looking for) nothing special here-too many other restaurants in the area-disappointing

BEST Italian

By Ajknate |

We only went here by accident because the restaurant next door we originally picked had a 40 min. wait. We are SOOO GLAD we ate here instead! The owner was very charming and gave us a table outside which was fantastic and the weather was just as good. The owner also brought out a Caprese salad for us complimentary and we ordered the bruschetta which both were FABULOUS!! The entry plates were huge portions and our group had homemade ravioli, chicken parmesan and lasagna, all of which were out of this world. I've eaten in many Italian districts in many cities across the US and this is one of my fav so far.

Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff.

By johanna j |

Amazing service. Seated quickly on a busy Saturday evening. The waiter Malek was informative and helped us choose. Would definitely come back 10/10

Best Italian Food!

By Eileen M |

This restaurant was recommended by a local and it did not disappoint! True Italian restaurant, not overpriced, and the servings were huge! Three people in my party had the lasagna and all 3 said it was the best they've ever had! Highly recommend!

Empty nesters week out

By Douglas A |

Food was anthemic Italian cuisine The service was on point. The price was a little high. Overall worth the money and time

Our Anniversary dinner November 12th 2022.., was very poor.

By Philip M |

We pre booked our table for 8pm but we were not seated until gone 8:30, it seemed bookings are pointless as those in-line got seated way before us. The service was slow, drinks are limited I.e. no vodka and the food was not good. The veal was increasingly tough, two of our fresh pasta dishes were not fully cooked. By the time our replacement meals came we had lost out appetite. Someone recommended this place to us but we would certainly not recommend this place to anyone. It’s a real shame as the location and vibe was great. What a waste of one of our nights in SF and of $255.

That's amore

By Vickie B |

The mushroom ravioli was to die for. What a great experience. Added to my favorite restaurants. Go to North Beach for the best italian.

Fantastic!

By smg38 |

We had seen the negative reviews and were wary, but had visited on a food tour (thanks Cynthia) and decided to try it for dinner. It was a great experience- excellent service, a fun atmosphere, good wine, super tasty pasta and delicious dessert. Plus the best coffee we have had in the past 2 weeks of travelling. Will try to see if we can squeeze in a return visit before we leave! Thank you

Great Experience and Food

By texowl2 |

Granted this was "Italian 1.0", but fantastic atmosphere and wonderful food. Everything we had was great from pizza to antipasto for two to Cioppino and the Spumoni Bomba. Can't

wonderful spaghetti aglio olio in San Francisco

By Filipo |

As always, a very friendly welcome, even though it was late and we were the last guests. The spaghetti aglio olio was fantastic!

Yummy Italian

By EMT_Chris |

Asked a local police officer where he eats Italian food and this place rolled of his tongue. Made a reservation for 4 at 630 on a Saturday night. We actually arrived early and was seated right away. Drink orders taken and dinners of chicken san francisco, chicken picatta, spaghetti bolognese amd caprese arrived soon after. Great portions, flavor and servers were extremely attentive. Great dessert menu choices but no room. Enjoy!

Interesting decor, good food, servers need training

By Margaret O |

Loved the Rigatoni Alden Smith and the Rosso red from Calabria, reasonable to slightly expensive menu options, the stimulating decor, and location on famous Columbus Street. The busboy was great with keeping our water filled and our table clean in an efficient and unobtrusive manner, but our server seemed untrained in comparison...inattentive, then rushed and clumsy. Manager seemed more interested in chatting and joking with the cooks than filling in when needed. Perhaps this was all because we were there late in the evening, after the usual dinner rush, and all told, we’d go again.

Very traditional Italian Restaurant

By Robertstrip |

We went there for dinner. Although they were very busy on this Saturday night we were seated quickly and the food came out fairly fast. The service was good, my girlfriend ordered the spaghetti Alfredo and it was very tasty. I am a very big fan of eggplants parmigiana and grew up eating a lot of delicious eggplant in New York in Italian neighborhoods. I was very disappointed in the eggplant parmigiana because it has way to much mozzarella cheese but not much eggplant and very little marinara sauce. I did appreciate the open kitchen and friendly staff but my craving for a good eggplant parmigiana was not met and I left disappointed. We did not order pizza but the pizza did look very good.

Stay clear if you know anything about italian cusine

By scotlandscoldinfeb |

As poor a meal as I have had definitely a tourist trap on the heart of little italy. i usually use TripAdvisor to locate good food and usually it gets it right most of the time, however mona lisa took the prize for the the biggest letdown due to the reviews. Should you wish your pasta to be boiled for 3 days then some packet tomato sauce poured over then this is your place. My parents are from Italy and I have eaten italian meals all over the world but this has to be right up there for the poorest quality at the price i paid for any pasta dish i have eaten ,it is actually hard to make pasta taste so bland given the so called ingredients that were in the dishes !!!. I think mona lisa herself had just tried the pasta here given her expression on her face ... Stay clear if you like good quality italian pasta

Great authentic Italian meals, super service.

By jyee5127 |

Had a wonderful dinner at this epic resto which has great salads, seafood, pasta, veal, all cooked fresh , cooked to order. Pizzas are cooked old country style, oblong pizza format. Servers all well trained and efficient. Open kitchen where you see every dish being prepared. Good wine selection, open for lunch, dinner, late dining, always with a smile. Very reasonable prices, on the busy popular Columbus Street in the Italian district of downtown San Francisco. Host Mauricio is truly the spirit of this great eatery. Just go, enjoy, bring a group, it’s delicious.

Insult for Italians and Italian cuisine

By federicaromaRoma |

I had dinner with my family this evening, the restaurant looks old and shabby the menu is very varied but honestly does not reflect the standards of an Italian restaurant in the slightest. We all had pizza but talking about pizza would be offensive to the real pizza lady. Too much basil in the margheritas and the mozzarella was definitely not good for baking. the restaurant is quite dirty and full of very dusty trinkets that honestly don't look good. The dust can also be seen on the walls. The bill was obviously a big blow I don't think I will go back a second time

Comfort food.

By JohnMichaelsDad |

Visited as a group of 9. The food was good, not great and it came quickly. Seems they focus on getting you in and out. Split a portion with my wife and it looked small. Kids liked their pizza. Good bottle of Italian wine for a reasonable price.

Really good italian

By carlos |

Caprese was fantastic, my aglio e olio was excellent and my wife’s Vitello was, I gather, delicious. Great staff, a bit expensive, but hec this city makes London seem reasonable! Great place worth checking out.

Great Night Location, decor, service and food Made it easy to enjoy snack

By ManyConferences |

The only reason I don't score this place higher is our calamari was over cooked. That said the appetizer we order had all the Italian meats to try, bruschetta, tomatoes with fresh mozzarella and basil, and on and on - so good! With wine what could be better. Salads were also better then average. Even with just snack foods the server was attentive! the Pizza at the next table looked so good we almost ordered one to take with us.

Relaxed Atmosphere

By Meggysmum |

We walked past and seeing the place really busy we decided to eat here. We sat outside next to boarding which shook when large vehicles went past which was a bit off putting. However we found our server, alfonso, really lovely. The food was tasty and hot and they were generous with the Parmesan ( I hate it when they only let you have the tiniest sprinkle). They brought glasses of water and a carafe to fill them again and didn’t pressurise you to buy drinks which I appreciated. We have two baskets of bread served with oil which was also included in the price and was very tasty. I had ravioli, it was really nice but I thought the serving was a bit small, normally I can’t finish pasta dishes as they are too big but this one left me wanting more. I would certainly eat here again though.

The worst Restaurant ever

By Sandy B |

I went with friends to The Mona Lisa Restaurant. We were seated outside which was wonderful. Upon being seated, a stale, tasteless bread was brought to our table. We had to flag down a waiter to place our order. Our food came out a little less than an hour after we ordered it. When it finally did arrive, my sliver of veal was piled high with sauce and cheese. I also ordered a side of asparagus for an additional $4.00. They we’re ALL stems, not a head to be seen. My friends also had issues with their meals. There are so many Italian Restaurants to choose from in North Beach. We suggest going elsewhere.

Great meal and wonderful service

By Teresa F |

Our party of 5 came here on Sunday night of Labor Day weekend. We had a reservation at 7pm and it was very busy, but they still managed to seat us on time. We started off with bruschetta and calamari. Both dishes were tasty and very flavorful. My husband ordered the lasagna and his portion was the biggest I've ever seen. Easily enough for 2 people and it came out piping hot. He loved it so much he ate the whole thing! I got the spaghetti bolognese and it was delicious. Two people in our party ordered spaghetti/meatballs and they had great things to say about their choice. Can't remember what the 5th dish was, but overall we had an excellent meal. Our server was very attentive and he was working so hard to keep our wine glasses topped off and bringing water without us asking. I can't wait to return here!

Delicious food, excellent service. Authentic!

By Road06799039735 |

We were pleasantly surprised by this authentic Italian restaurant. The pasta was fresh and perfectly al dente, the wine selection was good and the desert was delicious. The service was impecable and I must mention the owner who you can tell is very proud and caring. He stopped by all the tables and make sure everyone was happy. They have live music and even though the food was serviced fast they don’t rush you out. Will definitely return to this gem that is very centrally located.

very nice evening meal here, very busy and lovely atmosphere, enjoyed little Italy very much, a warm welcome from the staff and great food.

Good restaurant

We came across this restaurant by chance. We decided to go because there were several gluten-free choices and we were not disappointed. The service was excellent and so was the pasta.

AVIOD THIS PLACE!

By Elda22 |

Terrible experience with the service of this place. The food is good and I think the people who work in the kitchen do a good job, and it's a shame that when we complained about the service and the slowness of the waiter and his lack of attention, both the manager and the waiter tried to blame the kitchen, something that made no sense. Both the waiter and the manager had a terrible attitude, I would definitely NEVER go back or recommend it, there are many good restaurants in the area to expose yourself to the bad service of this place. When you go out to eat it is to enjoy not having a bad time ... Avoid this place!!!

Great Food & A Great Experience

By Dwnptrl |

What can I say but Mona Lisa is the place you want to go to for great Italian Food. The miss'us and I shared a seafood fettucine with a great pairing of wines. There is a number of great Italian Resurants in the City but this is right up there. BTW......Great people and great service!

ROACHES, ROACHES, ROACHES BEWARW

By Antoinese L |

I hate I cannot give them zero stars. It doesn't matter how the food tasted, how attentive the service was, or the uniqueness of the venue. What matters is the fact they have ROACHES! This was my first and last time ever dining at this roach motel/restaurant. The first roach climbed up the wall into a crack, one of the members of my table informed the staff. By the time staff arrived, another roach appeared and he grabbed it with a napkin. Once all of our party realized there were 2 roaches another roach decided to sample the food by running across the table which is when I lost it. I jumped up knocking my chair over and grabbing my belongings to leave. The management tried to say they had a pest person and this isn't normal I was not concerned about his pest control because it had failed. 1,2,3 roaches was more than I ever wanted to see. I feel there had to be more, in the kitchen, on the other tables, living under our table, in the bathroom, heck everywhere! I could not stop scratching and shaking my clothes and purse outside. Disgusted! Save yourself and stay away from this roast-infested restaurant.

Good surprise

By ido y |

From the outside it’s looks like a tourist restaurant, but the food was very good and the service even better!!! Very recommend👌🏻

Is as delicious as it smells

By merep1013 |

Mona Lisa is a very fun/lively restaurant with really good food! The menu is vast and ranges from pasta and pizza to seafood that looked (and smelled) amazing. We had feasted at lunch, so unfortunately we were not starving when we got to dinner, but we ordered bruschetta and a salad to start with and both were delicious and a large helping. The bruschetta was nice and crispy and full of flavor. We got a salad with the italian dressing and while it was good, there was just a tad too much dressing on the salad for our liking. I ordered the penne arrabbiata and it was huge and delicious. My husband ordered the Mona Lisa pizza and it was loaded with the toppings and the crust was good. The table behind us got a huge bowl of what looked like mussels and they looked amazing - next trip, definitely will come back for these. The service was good/hand's off which was nice - they didn't seem to be rushing us out the door even though there was a wait to get in. Will be back next trip to SF and recommend for a good, relatively priced meal in North Beach.

Come for the food and the decor!

By Matt C |

Great Italian restaurant - discovered this place by accident on our walk from Union Square back to Fisherman’s Wharf. The food was delicious, service fantastic and the decor is out of this world. Loved their unique version of the Mona Lisa painting. It was my son’s birthday and they gave him a complimentary piece of tiramisu to celebrate - he wouldn’t have eaten this if we told him coffee was one of the flavors, so we didn’t and he said it was the best dessert he’d had our entire trip.

Delicious dining experience

By Beata S |

From the entrance the atmosphere is perceived is of elegance and good taste. The staff was excellent and timely, with the advantage for me, who speak Spanish and clear, of course, English and Italian, the entrance of crispy squid was delicious, The presentation of the dishes and the taste of the food met our expectations, To highlight that our waiter introduced me to two types of white wine to select and help me decide by tasting both bottles. It was a nice detail and if advice helped me a lot.

Very nice food

By AJMglobaltraveller |

We went to North Beach to find an Italian restaurant and struck lucky. We spotted Mona Lisa from the bus and wandered back to check it out. The restaurant was very busy even in early evening. We had the mixed antipasto to start which was excellent. Then I had the baked penne which was very nice.

Nice but very salty

By scoopsSouthampton |

Unfortunately too much salt for our delicate English pallets. Starter was great mixed antipasti. Then had lasagne which I sent back as way too salty. The waiter took it off the bill and said they had never had any complaints about salty ness. My husband had a pizza which he found very salty. Disappointed as this had been recommended.

Authentic Italian with beguiling practicality. Really good gluten free pizza

By Brian J |

I'm still not sure I know the difference between Mona Lisa #3 on one side of Columbus and Mona Lisa #? on the other. I'm pretty sure they're the same organization taking advantage of foot traffic/parking ease on one side of the street vs. the other. The Stinking Rose seems to have the same approach. Both made it through a pandemic in what's certainly a high rent area so more power to them. The menu is exactly what you'd expect and hope for in North Beach / Little Italy. We'd specifically chosen Mona Lisa for their gluten free ravioli, not something we run across as a gluten free option very often. However we were swayed by the gluten free pizza (not unusual option but maybe Mona Lisa could do better than most) and we were not disappointed. They solved the most glaring fault of most gluten free pizza ... soggy / un-crisp crust. Mona Lisa's was well done throughout. The toppings were outstanding as expected. We also had a fine Caprese salad and bruschetta appetizers. The waiter corrected out pronunciation of pretty much everything ... just what we'd hope for in a Little Italy experience.

Lovely dinner in Little Italy.

By Tina T |

My Husband and I came upon the restaurant by chance while strolling through Little Italy. With so many choices for Italian restaurant's, we decided to go in and try this one after viewing the extensive menu choices, especially the vegetarian options. We both ordered our food which was nice. I had ordered a pizza for myself and was desperate to try the parmigiana but unable to eat both the pizza and the parmigiana. It was our last evening in San Francisco so we would not be able to visit again as we were flying home to the UK the following day. The service staff were very good, they put the half leftover pizza in a box for us to take home and eat later that evening and we ordered the parmigiana each. Good decision, really pleased I got to try it and got the best of both worlds. Lovely to meet and chat with the owner before we left. All the staff here were very efficient and friendly and if ever we went back to San Francisco's Little Italy we would be sure to visit again. Thank you Mauritzio, not too far from Bedford UK!

Mama Mia what an antipasta! We loved this place!

By Lisa W |

My husband and I always pick one night for a special night out when we are on vacation. This night he had suggested we head back to Little Italy and stop in one of their restaurants. We read the menu on the wall outside and decided this was the place for us. We kicked our meal off with one of the antipasto offerings. Who doesn't love an antipasto with mortadella, prosciutto, chunk provolone, olives etc? It was DELICIOUS! We both ordered pasta dishes. Of course, I must of only eaten a cup of my dish of pasta that must have contained a lb of pasta but it was so very good. My husband had pesto with chicken and pasta and said the pesto was so tasty. He should know he is a professional chef by trade and makes a mean pesto! All and all if I know of anyone heading the San Fran way I am recommending this restaurant. Décor was very eclectic. Didn't mind that one bit after all I sat at the table I referred to as the Frankie Avalon spot. His picture was on the wall! Service was attentive ...our waiter was super nice!

Tremendous food and service

By Rochatter |

Tremendous food and service in North Beach. Reasonably priced wine and wonderfully prepared dishes. Try the lobster ravioli.

Love it!

By Karina V |

My son and I had an early lunch at this place. The owner and his son were great hosts. Food was good and prices very reasonable. Portions were bigger that I would expect for a place located in a place with a lot of tourism. Great atmosphere! We will definitely be back :)

Awesome

By Tim H |

Service was fantastic. Atmosphere was great. Food was delicious. Couldn't ask for more. Will be coming back every time we are in San Francisco!!

Nice place

By LostInTime |

I went here for dinner one evening. It wasn’t crowded. The sever was nice. The decor was interesting. The pasta was great. Make sure to order the homemade pasta. It’s an option. And it’s great.

Good Italian

By busconi |

Ate here years ago and loved it, so we came back to see if the food is still delicious.....it is. We arrived early for dinner, grabbed a seat right next to the window. Quickly though, the place filled up. Service was great, very attentive. We ordered a pumpkin ravioli dish (Ravioli alla Zucca) and a spaghetti with meat sauce (spaghetti Bolognese)...both really good, as well as the green salad and bread. For a good Italian meal, Mona Lisa is a good bet!!!

Excellent pasta and pizza

By Ralph B |

We needed to find a place after our evening Alcatraz tour and read the trip advisor reviews as well as open late 11pm. The restuarant had a great atmosphere and was busy for a Wednesday night. The owner who is a character found us a table. Even though they had a large party the service was good. I had the seafood pasta which was excellent and spicy just right me so no need for extra chilly oil. Gill had lasagna again perfect. We had the house wine recommended again just right. We ordered garlic bread for a starter as well as given a complimentary bread and tomato. Too much but both very tasty. We needed a taxi which the owner flagged down by running into the road!! Great place and worth a visit for experience and food.

Appalling in every way

By David F |

Worst restaurant I have ever experienced. Poor quality food, microwaved not fresh, small portions, appalling service by very arrogant waiter who walked away when I said we were unhappy. Fast food outlet masquerading as restaurant, could not wait to get us out, 30 mins from stsrt to finish. 50 bucks and left hungry. Customer experience was unbelievably bad, not treated as a human being, not even a number. Avoid avoid avoid

A dining mistake

By Kasia N |

To say it was mediocre, it’s to give it a compliment. Shredded parmezan on a beef carpaccio was hard and old, the carpaccio itself was proper. Risotto was overcooked and had too much wine, was too sour. To pay 200$ for dinner, was really not worth it. Sorrry, the pinot noir was good.

Excellent Made in Italy restaurant

By Mauro Z |

We arrived at this restaurant at the end of a tour of the western parks. The place is very nice to look at, tastefully furnished and the staff very pleasant. The owner is an exquisite person. We ate bruschetta and tomato pasta made according to the Italian recipe, very good. There were some kids next to us who ate the pizza and, from what they told us, it was excellent. To finish, a good Italian espresso. Compliments to the owner and his staff.

Great food

By Tony S |

Doesn't look a great deal from the outside but be prepared to be stunned walking through the door, the decor inside is wonderful. Came in for a late lunch and was busy upon entering, but service was good and friendly. Food was outstanding and sizable portions too (more than I could eat). Certainly not cheap however and check the % for service already added to your bill before thinking about the size of the tip! Recommended!

The Italian of Italians!

By Shabanama |

Well, the Mona Lisa Ristorante was recommended by Giovanni the owner of Outspok’n, who gave us the business card for this place and a promise of a complimentary Brushetta, and we were not disappointed. Even if we hadn’t got one, I’m so glad we came to this wonderful little Italian in the Italian Quarter. A great place for couples, newly weds, just good old friends. The food was fabulous, I had Penne Arrabiatta which was spicy, plenty of flavour, pasta was Al dente and the servings were very generous. The interior decor is lovely, I’m guessing years of eclectic collections, but a real Italian feel, I loved the classical music. What struck me most was that this is a family run business, and father, two sons were all at the ristorante. As you walk in you can watch the chefs cook your meal fresh, and just look at the pics, all pots, pans etc in a tidy clean cooking space. I had the pleasure of being taken to my table by the ristorante owner himself, the very nice Mourizio, (notice the Mona Lisa tie) pictured here with his son Florese and as we were leaving we noted the fabulous little convertible, customised mini outside driven by Mourizio’s other son, who kindly allowed us to have our photos taken in the car. I would recommend this place, might be a few extra dollars, still very reasonable, to have such good service, great ambiance and a family run business was well worth the visit. Would definitely go back.

Good food, smallish portions, meh service, and definitely Italian decor

By CairnCarrier |

My wife and I have eaten at Mona Lisa over the past 20 years when we’ve come to San Francisco. The main draw for her has been their pasta in squid ink sauce. (I’ve tasted it, but it’s not my cup of tea. The black sauce doesn’t faze me; just don’t care for the taste.) The first several times she has ordered it, the seafood in it was strictly squid (calamari), served over pasta. The last two times it was served over risotto and was not strictly squid, but rather included shrimp, mussels and clams in their shells, along with some calamari. For $34.95, she found the portion of Risotto Al Nero Con Frutti Di Mare to be small. As this dish was our main reason for coming there, it is doubtful we will be back. I’ve generally had their pasta dishes over the years and ordered their spaghetti Bolognese this time. It was very good, but I can have as good around home and a larger portion for the $18.95 I paid. The best bolognese sauce I’ve eaten was at a restaurant in Iowa City, IA while visiting my daughter there.

Bruschetta and Lambrusco

By Anna39 |

My first visit to Little Italy and we stopped in here for lunch. Prices were a little high but the bruschetta and pizza were delicious! The Lambrusco was very good as well.

Good Italian food but small portions

By Simon K. Nutt |

The food itself wasn't too bad but the portions were very little, especially the dessert, considering the prices I paid. My bill was nearly 70 dollars.

Disappointing

By Katrialovell |

Was excited to try this on a recommendation but was quite underwhelmed. Started off well but then the wait staff got distracted having what appeared to be several arguments with the restaurant owner, and then a large table came in and it was pretty much game over. Good size portions of both food and wine. Nice decor in the restaurant with the most amazing aroma. My cannelloni was nice but cold on the inside (the hot tomato sauce around it sort of made up for it). I ordered the lemon sorbet for dessert - it’s served in a lemon which is a cute idea, but it was so frozen I couldn’t actually get in to it with a spoon in any way shape or form. When asked, My waiter looked at me like I was stupid and said to me ‘it’s supposed to be frozen’ - so I asked him to show me how to eat it, at which point he whisked it away and microwaved it 🙄🙄🙄. After that they just ignored me until I actually went and stood at the front of the restaurant to try and pay. Overall a disappointing meal given the others I have experienced in San Francisco and I would recommend finding somewhere a little less focused on quantity and getting people in the door.

Over priced and lacking taste

By Dezza81 |

Was recommended to visit and on the reviews thought we would try. Ruined our last night to be honest. The waiter (bald guy) was more interested in girls across from us, I had to ask for bread twice and it still never arrived. The food was probably the worst Italian food I've had. Sea food spaghetti, dry, salty and lots of broken shells @$30. My wife ordered spaghetti with pancetta, it was like something a child would make. Far too much sauce, massive chunks of rubber pancetta, again such a disappointment. The street is loaded with Italian restaurants, do a little research and find somewhere nice! A typical place that was probably once good and try live off a name.

Very good italian restaurant

By Manfredi G |

We arrived in front of the Mona Lisa by chance then the sympathy of the owner Maurizio convinced us to enter. We ate an excellent pasta dish and a huge appetizer (offered by Maurizio)! As Italian I recommend it!

Amazing!

By jdcardena |

A great and original Italian place, attended by Maurizio, the owner. We ate like in Italy, great food, great place! I strongly recommend it.

Pizza and wine

By bluejeanfood |

Enjoy hearty Italian fare in North Beach. Pizza, arancini, and vino—need I say more? They have outdoor seating also to choose from.

A restaurant that I highly recommend

By Antoine Laizet |

Giovanni is an excellent waiter! You will be served with joy and elegance! The food was delicious and we had a great time! And to finish Giovanni kindly offered us a glass of moscatel! Great! I recommend it!

Awful service and food

By Sandy B |

I and two friends had dinner at the Mona Lisa Restaurant in San Francisco last night. We were seated outside the restaurant on a lovely evening and had a great view to people watch. We were served bread immediately upon being seated. The bread was tasteless. We waited an hour for our food to arrive. When it finally did arrive. the Veal Parmesean that I had was a thin, small piece of veal with a gob of sauce and cheese on top. It was awful and not much to it. I ordered asparagus instead of having the spinach that came with the meal. That was an additional charge of $4.00 and was only cut up stems, no tops to the asparagus at all. My friends' shared a Veal Milanese Dish. Again, it was a sliver of veal. When we gently complained to the Manager, his reply was a very rude one. There are so many Italian Restaurants in North Beach...We all recommend choosing another.

Don’t “forget about it”.

By Discover638525 |

SURPRISE, UNEXPECTED This is the restaurant that we ended up eating a traditional Italian pizza with Vino at the end of our food walking tour. We were not expecting anything as fantastic as the Mona Lisa Restaurant. We had lots of fun sitting outside on the streets of Northbeach Little Italy. What made this so incredibly fun! Is the owner. He came out and visit with us several times. He is the life of the restaurant. His warm, enthusiastic personality is contagious. We thank him for the memories of his Great food. Ciao Baby

Great meal

By lily |

I had a great meal. I should’ve took a picture, but I ate it too fast. I started out with their house salad, which was delicious. I had the chicken piccata, and they made a linguine with puttanesca sauce for me, followed by the best tiramisu I ever had and a cappuccino that was perfect. I complimented the manager. I think it made him uncomfortable, but that’s OK. My waiter was good looking.

unprofessional waiters

By Hassan442 |

He tried to play me into giving him a larger tip, saying that, “it’s the American way...this is offensive.” He wanted to triple the tip I had left him. He’s from Tunis 24 of August at 9:30 pm but the food is amazing

Vacation

By Al C |

Incredible food, authentic Italian, great ambiance! I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a great authentic Italian style dinner!

Never disappoints!

By Chaya S |

This was my third experience at Mona Lisa and they did not let me down. The food is served hot, fresh and delicious. It is authentic and flavorful, but what makes the meal even better is the engagement of the owner and his staff.

Amazing restaurant

By pompeygirl1969 |

This restaurant is so worth checking out, I timed it right as was able to get seated immediately, people after me were needing to queue. Staff were so friendly and I found my meal to be very fresh and delicious

Excellent - I think.

By Pank |

My wife and I had dinner her on our first night on a month long holiday in the US, we were in the grip of first night fever with a touch of jet lag thrown in so the details of the meal and service are a bit sketchy. From what we do remember however everything was great and the photos we took suggest the decor is very nice. I can also remember embracing the owner on the way out the door and telling him how bloody good everything was. My wife is more in the dark than I am.

Mona Lisa San Francisco is not a pleasure like La Gioconda

By Shana Lea |

Unfortunately, Mona Lisa serves stale, tired, uninteresting, poorly prepared food from low quality produce in tiny portions. The manager is rude, impatient and disinterested in both his customers’ satisfaction, the cleanliness of his establishment or the quality of the food he serves. Go elsewhere to enjoy your dinner.

Amazing Italian Food, Open Late and Great Service!!!

By Tania P |

Delicious Italian Food. Food was amazing and customer service was great. We went there since most restaurants in Frisco close early (9-10 pm on a week night). This restaurant closes at 11 pm on weeknights and had amazing ambience, music and food! Service was also GREAT!!

Great food

By Roxanne C |

We dined here July 2019. We LOVED the food. I had Chicken Piccata and my husband had Spaghetti Carbonara. We ate outside and it was fun to watch all the people walking by. The service was excellent. Wine by the glass is pricey at $12 but it is a big glass of wine. We don't go up to the city much but we will definitely make the trip just to come back to this restaurant!

Attention

By lizablue1 |

I must first say that the food is very good! The pizza was fantastic and the ravioli the same. BUT: I asked for a glass of red wine, the waiter said he even had Brunello in the open bar. So we ordered two glasses. The wine was not good and certainly not Brunello... we didn't say anything, what to discuss. But then came the bill: 2 glasses of open red wine 50 dollars! Without taxis and service. No “Bella” helps here and there! This is outrageous and a total scam. So watch out for wine orders! Food is very good

Stay Away!

By Voyager22954759518 |

Stay away. This restaurant was terrible and very distressing. Eggplant was not edible and had to be sent back. Two other pasta dishes were tasteless and the portions were tiny despite being very very expensive. When I asked to speak with the manager the waiter was belligerent and became aggressive. He literally chest bumped me pushing me backwards in the middle of the restaurant. This came very close to becoming a fistfight. This was assault! Stay away, go to Original Joes if you seek good Italian.

Awful rude waiters- conned out of money

By Lydia |

Argued with us about having to give an 18% tip which the meal definitely did not warrant. We did not give it- upon returning home our bank has been charged the 18% tip we never signed for.

Great food and atmosphere

By Cristian S |

I was here last weekend, having dinner with some friends. Great Italian food and service. Location is quite exquisite. Feels like you’re in Italy. I do recommend it for a nice Italian dish, I’ve had lasagna. The owner is there all the time, really nice and funny guy. Good prices!!!

True Italian excellent

By pecks1 |

Went there on a food tour. We had pizza and tiramisu . Both were exceptional!! Owner was very friendly as was the entire staff. A must in San Francisco.

Lovely

By markandsian |

Ordered a pizza and a bowl of spag bol here which was lovely. Great ambience and authentic Italian owned restaurant in Little Italy in North Beach. Has an old Fiat outside that you can sit in and take pictures. Good value and great service. Would recommend.

Excellent service! Bartender Bobby was wonderful. Many menu options and delicious specials available. Great portion size!

It's all good

By Mark O |

Great food, great service, great vibe, great restaurant. Short stay in downtown SF, we passed this on our walk to Pier 39 and it looked busy, so we stopped in on the walk back. We were not disappointed. So much so that we returned for our final meal in CA two days later. Pasta - great. Pizza - great. Steak - great. Helpful and friendly team members - also great. We had ten meals between us over two trips and not one left us disappointed. Maybe the prices were a bit on the high side, but find me anywhere in California where that's not the case.... Very happy. Cheers.

Big Dissapointment

By kellyscottcollins |

Many years ago, this was a favorite place for us and our friends. Not Now. Yesterday, we all sent our plates back. Paid our bill with the normal tip. Then left to go around the block for hamburgers to fill up. So what happened? We noticed that the menu ingredients for some of the dishes had been pared down (to save money?) and that none of the chefs that night could possible be Italian. On the bright side, there are lots of great restaurants nearby - including the Stinking Rose at their new location across the street where earlier in the week we had a fine meal with their nice house Chianti.

Very Yummy!

By mga001 |

Walked here from our hotel at our concierge's suggestion and it was well worth the walk. Lunch was great, lots of yummy bread, great pasta and great coffee as well. Lots of pictures and decorations to look at too.

Al dente pasta!

By AK |

Amazing al dente pasta and friendly staff. Great decor but horrible music. We had Sicilian candy (garlic) appetizer, spaghetti carbonara and spaghetti puttanesca. Would definitely go back but ask them to change the music!

Pricy average food

By Albin S |

Not sure how this place got so many 5-ratings. Food is average at best, had plenty of other restaurant visits with cheaper food that was way above the level of what we got served here. Olive oil at table expired three months ago, bread served was dry and boring.

Worst pasta ever

By Joolsmac25 |

It took a lot to get this meal as bad as It was!! The penne pasta was as soft as a baby could eat it. I found it hard to get the pasta on my fork. I can only say that I’ve tasted better pasta in hospitals. The vongole had no taste whatsoever, the gnocchi was mush!! I wouldn’t mind paying the extortionate prices if the food was edible but felt sick at paying £90 for a meal that should never have made it to the table! All I can say is don’t even try it, the food came out in 5 minutes so no surprise it was awful. I’m unsure why it has any good reviews at all. I should’ve guessed when the prosecco came in a wine glass. The waiter was uninterested, for our first visit to San Fran it was a real disappointment.

Excellent pizza

By PR60 |

After twenty days traveling around the United States, truly a proper pizza, I actually had a pinsa Parma. the friendly Italian manager explained to me that the dough rose for 72 hours. At Parmigiano I must say that in addition to the very good and crunchy dough, the burrata and raw ham filling were also excellent.

Lived in San Francisco for Many Years

By Pat H |

Lived in San Francisco for many years and have seen Italian restaurants come and go...but Mona Lisa, and it’s owner Mauricio, provide the freshest pasta and the best Italian food in North Beach!

Classic old school Italian - super helpful staff and very friendly

By WoodsideHouse |

Amazing food, I had past one evening and then a pizza for lunch the next day. Proper old school Italian with staff very knowledgeable. Wine choice by the glass was fantastic and overall prices were not crazy for the freshness of the food. Will be back for sure. worth a visit just look at the walls and the photos of the many many famous people who have been in this restaurant.

Best Italian in town

By Hugo B |

Furnished with the same extravaganza of Italian language Not too expensive for SF standards Served quite quickly

Service was lacking

By Wismickchick |

Our group went to the Mona Lisa Italian restaurant for our final dinner in San Francisco as a recommendation by the hotel concierge. We were able to get a last minute reservation and were seated right away. The restaurant was very cool and had a lot of interesting decorations. Our waiter, however, always seemed very rushed and uninterested in our table. He took our drink order once and never asked if we wanted more, he never asked how our meals were, and it actually appeared as if he was having an argument with the owner (in Italian) right in front of our table, which was extremely unprofessional. We sat forever waiting for our check, which I was surprised about considering most restaurants would want to clear a table of 6 if they had a large group waiting outside for a table. The food was good, but the service really ruined our experience.

Real Authentic Italian

By joe |

Real authentic Italian food, served with a smoke by a real Italian, in a nice setting in North Beach San Francisco. We will definitely return to try other dishes.

Great Food, Friendly Staff

By stuartlusby |

Encouraged to enter by the proprietor, we enjoyed an excellent two course dinner of brushetta and pasta while visiting Little Italy. The decor is fascinating, almost retro Italian, but with a couple of big screens showing live sports. The food is good and the staff are very customer oriented Very good

Disappointing for a specialty Italian cuisine venue

By James S |

The veal had the consistency of rubber, the waiter never returned after our meal was initially served till check presented to see how our meal was, the venue was staffed appropriately and it was 5pm (non peak hours) The music played in the background was a mix between hip hop - techno! Guess they never heard of Napoletana style music. If your idea of a great Italian experience is IHOP, Spaghetti Factory, or Guidos Pizza Hut, this is the place for you.

Awesome!

By Megan C |

Italian food by Italians. I went for an early dinner, and by myself on a weekday, so I didn’t need a reservation. I had the Sicilian Candy, Fiori di Zucca and Ravioli di Porcini, with a tiny cup of espresso to keep me from the food-coma to come. The food was amazing and the service was excellent. Definitely worth a return visit.

Pleasantly surprising

By Russell D |

This was my first time here suggested By my business associate.. his favorite Italian restaurant in San Francisco I can tell why.. the atmosphere .. food And service was excellent. And it was Full on a Wednesday night.

Excellent food and great atmosphere and staff, veg friendly

By shopaddict |

One of The best bruschetta I’ve ever had, and one of the best baked eggplant Parmesan we have ever eaten. The penne Quattro formaggio was very good also. Our cousin loved the lasagne, said it was one of the best he’s ever had. We also had the pizza margarita Roman style, it was very good as well but very different. Staff was great and did not rush us. We highly recommend it and would come again! Family friendly, had kids 10 and 12, and also vegetarian and vegan friendly.

Well worth it!

By S S |

Great place to relax and taste proper Italia. Excellent value for money and great service from staff, highly recommended.

Great Italian food in the heart of North Beach

By Michael G |

Had dinner with my family here while visiting SF. We found the restaurant when walking by one night and noticing how crowded it was. Came back two nights later and had a delicious meal. Highly recommend!

Italian American kitsch

By Mjsomaha |

A group of 5 of us dined at Mona Lisa after an afternoon exploring North Beach and Chinatown. The atmosphere is eclectic Italian kitsch but the food and service very Italian. Chicken Marsala and Veal picatta were spot on. Pasta dishes were plentiful and tasty as well. Only disappointment was the bread, which was very ordinary and a bit stale.

Average at Best!

By Steven O |

The appetizer was average, when asked if they could add a couple slices of prosciutto, i was told they could not and they would have to charge me the full amount of another appetizer plate. i travel for a living and eat at restaurants 200 hundred times a year and have never heard this before. The main dish was very good. No complaints at all. The service is what truly ruined this meal. The waiter was rude and always seemed like he was in a hurry. Also, the ice tea's were $5.00 a piece and tourist, yes, they charge for refills. We have been here many times in the past and had good experiences. This latest dining experiance, left a bad taste and we will not be returning anytime soon.

Good food mediocre service

By Scott |

The fried calamari was excellent. it was perfectly seasoned, and ultra tender. And it was obviously it's very fresh. Margherita pizza met expectations, but nothing special. I dined outside on the sidewalk. The weather is nice, this is the only way to go. At times I got the feeling the staff was more interested in collecting customers off the sidewalk than attending to the ones they had.

Food great, service ok

By Jackie W |

The food was outstanding and such an authentic feel to the place. Beer was a bit high at $10 per bottle and service was a bit slow by the waiter not by the owner.

Beautiful Place!!!!

By Tito R |

Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Italian food. We will definitely be back.

Great Pizza Stop on our Food Tour!

By dunadan |

The final stop on our food tour of Chinatown/North Beach was at Mona Lisa, where we feasted on several large Neapolitan pizzas, wine, and sodas. After having eaten our way through several prior stops, we really weren't hungry, but this pizza was amazing and I personally found my appetite to eat a couple of slices. The pizza was delicious--starting with the crust, which was hand-tossed, and then topped with fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and basil. As good a pizza as I've ever had--it's too bad we didn't find out about this place until the last night of our short holiday in San Francisco, but we will be sure to return when we visit the City by the Bay next.

Great for a Group

By SJChristine |

Classic North Beach restaurant, with great Italian food. We were here after a business event, with a group of 10. We had wonderful service, just the right amount of attention. The food was excellent, both the regular menu items and the daily special. Definitely on the list to visit again when I'm in San Francisco.

A slice of Italy in San Francisco

By Fox M |

If I had longer to stay in the bay area, I'd eat here almost every night. The food is great, the staff is great, the owner is great and an absolute gem to speak with. I waited about 30 minutes for a table and id happily wait double that to eat. Very good food.

Yumz!

By Oscarsee |

Authentic Italian fare at a reasonable price. Quality of the food is fantastic and the service from the team there is warm and welcoming.

Excellent

By Mathew Ditch |

Very nice homemade food. We had homemade veal ravioli - the best I ever had! Top class! Seating outside was also nice, good service, good wine.

Great authentic Italian food!

By Dawn M |

Well located in heart of North Beach (Little Italy). Great food, huge menu, reasonably priced. Seating available both indoors and out. We chose outdoors, heaters were positioned nearby and tables were enclosed. Staff was friendly and attentive. The lasagna di casa was amazing, highly recommend.

Great carbonara, nice art

By DK |

Great carbonara. Fun art atmosphere and good service. Was a bit expensive but I wasn’t really surprised for San Francisco.

Crazy prices, five dollars for a Coke and $32 for a simple pasta with sausage.

By William M |

Old school place with nice atmosphere. Food is fine, no big deal but a nice lunch. $32 for pasta with sausage, which gives you some idea of the prices here. They also charge five dollars for a Coke, absolutely ridiculous.. because of the prices I just don’t recommend this place.

Great Staff

By Alyssa |

Some of the best Italian food! On a girls trip from the east coast. We were recommended by our tour guide. She said this was one of her favorite places. The food, atmosphere and wine were all wonderful. Staff was extremely attentive. They worked extremely hard to make sure we had a great experience. Would highly recommend!

Good food with Terrible Service

By Aninda_mukherjee |

Kept on waiting for the food for around 20mins. Situated right on the posh location in north beach, this place for Italian. Decorated by printed paintings, which actually looked very cheap from outside. It had considerable variety of dish choices and the food served was good. I went for the salmon spaghetti, which was actually very tasty. The house wine over it mad a reasonable good combination. The service was not good, possibly because of too much crowd on a Friday evening. Overall it’s a god place in the heart of the happening place in San Francisco.

rip off

By Resort09141422549 |

Every shop in the immediate vicinity is better. The prices definitely do not match the quality. A glass of white wine starts at $15...

Meh!

By C.A.R. |

We were walking in the area, looking for a place to eat our last meal before going home. There was no wait and so we went in. The menu is varied. The place was crowded. I ordered a thin crust Margherita pizza. But, the crust was too thin and undercooked. The sauce was bland. The staff was extremely busy. Our bread basket was not replenished and my drink was not refreshed. All in all a mediocre experience.

Great dinner

By Thomase77 |

We were walking past and the restaurant was was fairly busy which is always a good sign, so we decided to go in. We were not disappointed, I had pasta and my husband had pizza, both delicious. The staff were really friendly! Would recommend a visit!

Great local pasta place if rather pricey

By Colm N |

This place was highly recommended for gluten-free pasta and ravioli and it delivered on that front. Nice 'jumbly' atmosphere and when we went on a Friday night there wasn't a free table - so they're doing something right. My only gripe is that it is *very* expensive. We paid just shy of $200 (not including tip) for 2 x spag bol, 2 x ravioli 2 x glasses wine and one slice of gf chocolate cake.

Amazing Italian

This place was recommended by the guy who ran the ticket sales for the hop on bus. Was a little dubious at first, but are we glad we went. The decor was out of this world, the food was lovely. Wine $12 by the glass, but easy a UK large in size. Staff were on the ball and the owner was working the tables and chatting to all the customers. Would definitely recommend and return.

Delicious Italian Food in a Charming Atmosphere

This is a great spot for a meal in the North Beach neighborhood. We tried a variety of delicious dishes from pizza to pasta to chicken marsala. All were excellent! The waiter was kind and helped quickly correct a mistake in one of our party's orders. The atmosphere is inviting, with walls covered in celebrity memorabilia and frescos on the ceilings. I would absolutely eat here again.

Best BURRATA I’ve ever had

This was my favorite place to eat in all San Francisco. It isn’t expensive, and the food is delicious. I love burrata and the one I had here was the best I’ve tried so far. I really recommend it.

Delicious!

We stumbled onto this lovely little family run restaurant in the heart of Little Italy. The food was absolutely delicious! Everything was extremely fresh and flavorful. The service and hospitality was also outstanding. The place has been there for 43 years….if you make it that long you gotta be doing something right! Check them out!

Not great

Hand on heart, I very rarely complain about anything. This was appalling. Yes it was expensive but welcome to San Francisco in 2023 so that was fine but what is wrong and my partner bless him is very passive and wouldn’t let me say anything. However I did I went to the management and he laughed at me and told me to come back tomorrow for a discount. I didn’t wanna discount. I just thought the food main course was appalling, starters and wine were delightful. Wasn’t interested locked me out the door really don’t recommend it 😳
