Met my wife here for happy hour on a Friday afternoon and found some wonderful and delicious treats. Started with Stone Crab Claws- INCREDIBLE! Cracked perfectly so I did not have to struggle. Next up was BBQ Shrimp- messy, finger lickin, bread dippin eye poppin dang good shrimp! The smoked briskett morsels garnished this dish and you do not want to leave them on the plate. We had a great time and will be back. Bring your cooler and take home some of the freshest Gulf Seafood in Austin. The vegetables served here will amaze you! Check for specials.

Fresh, fresh, fresh. That's the most important quality of a good seafood restaurant! We started with the blue crab cake, very good. My husband ordered the linguine with clams and I ordered the grouper with kale. The grouper portion was on the small side but was very good. We also had a side of fried green tomatoes and brussel sprouts. We will definitely be back!

Old friend took us there for supper and it was outstanding to say the least. These people are seafood experts. The puu puus were killer. A great start. Nice choice of wines at reasonable prices if not a little pricey. The fish I had was wonderful. The fish tacos are also outstanding. These can be really terrible but they were fresh and excellent. I have been back twice and the service and food are constant. Salmon steak was some of the best I have had. These people have a fix on high quality.

Such a pleasant alternative to the 6th street madness. A great little place with a nice selection of dishes. Loved the gumbo-a must have!

The restaurant is one of the best in Austin. The service and food were excellent. Very nice wine list. We had a bottle of the Siduri Pinot Noir which was very good an a reasonable price We started with Chilled shrimp and ahi tuna..which was stupendous. Then we had red snapper and the salmon and both were excellently prepared..We will be back VERY soon!!!!

I was traveling for work and stopped here to have a bowl of gumbo at the bar. It was excellent - and this has to be one of the cutest restaurants in Austin right now. The area is still a little random but places like this add a hip vibe. Someone pays attention to all the details in this well planned establishment.

My husband and I usually hit the happy hour, which showcases a few local beers and decent house wines. A few discounted appetizers are available, along with the regular dinner menu, although it may be too early for the evening's specials. Everything is fresh and well prepared, although the desserts are somewhat disappointing.

First visit to Austin and first meal in this great city. Found Mongers in an eclectic area of East Austin. Wonderful meal, quiet dinner on heated porch. Food was absolutely amazing - our waitress Grisel was knowledgeable of the menu and wine. She made the dinner that much more enjoyable. Will come back next time in Austin for sure

We enjoyed a fantastic lunch at Mongers. I ate the avocado toast and my husband had the pompano sandwich. Soooo delish. The fries were awesome too. Also wonderful service and a good vibe inside.

Enjoyed a fabulous dinner with my date. I can't offer enough praise to this great establishment. Service was impeccable and food was amazing. It's definitely on my top list of places to eat in Austin Texas.

We ended up here by accident, after the restaurant we tried to go to was booked solid for two hours. We were very glad the night went the way it did! This is a lovely restaurant, with excellent chowder, fresh seafood, and amazing fish and chips. It was chilly and rainy outside, but the enclosed patio was warm and cozy. Very friendly welcoming staff! Our server was great. I would go to Mongers again when back in Austin. Highly recommend!

Indecisively looking for dinner in Austin... finally agreed on Monger's. Service was great. Carla our waitress was terrific. Salmon wings, chicken liver pate. Oysters, And Gumbo were great. 2nd time here. Both visits were enjoyable.

The wait staff is obviously a reflection of the owners - very informative and accommodating. Sunday brunch is always a challenge for me since my husband is looking for eggs, and I'm looking for lunch. While the printed menu had mostly egg items, our server, Forrest, was very quick to offer other items to please. For an appetizer, we enjoyed the Mussels. The sauce they were in was so good, we asked for extra bread for dipping. For an entree, my husband chose the Chilaquiles. It was quite different with deliciously fried oysters, and an egg perched on top. That was good for him. From the daily special items, I chose a Red Snapper Collar. As an appetizer, it had a small serving of tasty salad on the plate. From the sides, I added the Fried Green Tomatoes, and that made a meal. On the way out, we had the pleasure of meeting the owners. They were very hospitable. We certainly plan to return with friends.

I visited this great seafood restaurant for the first time last week. I was lucky enough to share in a special occasion there, and all the food was amazing! Ling (cobia, lemonfish) is seldom found on a menu, but they had it, beautifully cooked, in addition to oysters, shrimp, and various other seafood dishes. Owner Roberto San Miguel and chef Shane Stark were especially gracious. The restaurant is a little hard for a non-local to find, but well worth the search.

This is a very modern, somewhat small restaurant - fish market in the heart of East Austin. The seafood market part is small and has limited offerings but what they had looked very fresh and reasonably priced. We ate lunch here on a cool day; all of the indoor tables were full and folks were seated outside. We opted for a table in the sun which wasn't bad but we did gave some problem with a bee or two. We have come across this problem at some restaurants with outdoor seating where fruity drinks are served, especially at wooden tables. The remedy would seem to be a frequent and through hosing off. Our lunch options included some sandwiches and some rather pricey, but attractive, entrees. My fish BLT ($13) was very tasty and a definite repeat. My wife's "Crab Cake Sammy" ($15) was not quite as successful. The overall quality was high and the service was good, but this is a pricy lunch stop.

This place is voted as a "Best in Austin" seafood venue. Not only is the menu an eclectic mix of raw seafood, Monger is also a fish market with a fresh selection of North American seafood. What's even better, the wait staff is extremely knowledgeable and the wine list is extensive. Come and witness this amazing place!

Great service, wonderful fish...the freshness cannot be beat. I had grilled grouper with zesty slaw. YUM, it felt special in an oasis on east Cesar Chavez

My wife and I went here for brunch and it was perfect! great drinks. Great food and best of all great ambiance! I highly recommend the soft shelled crab benedict..

We just had dinner at Mongers. We got there early on a Saturday night. My wife had steak, I had the Redfish, the kids split an adult fried shrimp. They also had brownies for desert. My wife loved the steak, the kids devoured the shrimp, but I thought the Redfish was a little unseasoned. My children are young, and they probably were a little out of place in a trendy place like this. When the we desert arrived, my wife asked for decaf coffee. The waitress said that Mongers does not have decaf coffee. We both thought that they wanted us to leave, and they were hurrying us up by denying my wife coffee. Also, they were hovering around us the whole time, making us feel like they wanted us to leave. At $125 you really shouldn't feel hurried. Other than being hurried, we enjoyed the restaurant and would probably return.

This one was on my list for a few months and finally we made it! And we timed it perfectly, got there for their M-F 4-6 pm happy hour. $5 glasses of wine and small apps. Between us we had the buttermilk fried shrimp (YUM!) and ahi poke tacos (a fav for one of us and a tie for first for another!), peel and eats (more please!) and (not on the HH menu) angels on horseback. This was good but the least favorite of the food we tried. I also didn't like the fried green tomatoes (deep fried.. why people?? this is NOT how these should be cooked! though others seem to like them, and the dipping sauce was fantastic!) I have to say I didn't care for the sangria. The service was good, even when they got the end-of-HH rush and everyone was super friendly. I can't wait to go back!

Perfection all around. Love this restaurant. Freshest seafood in Austin. Started with crab fingers appetizer and specialty cocktails. Followed by the Bibb lettuce salad. We both had the special Dungeness crab served warm with a simple sauce that was outstanding. Finished with the olive oil cake. Service was prompt and friendly. Overall a great meal.

With another couple, we had dinner at Mongers. The chowder was sublime as were the scallops. Our friends had snapper which they described as tops. Parking is easy, the noise level moderate to low. In nearby to downtown East Chavez, we like this spot a lot!

We visited as a party of 5 for a birthday dinner. We ordered 5 entrees and 1 appetizer. The Lobster roll at $38 was amazing and a fair value. The Fish Tacos at $24 got a best fish tacos vote ever, and was a fair value. The Linguine and Clams for two of us was a big disappointment. There were only 4 clams in each dish and at $29 was a very poor value. I ordered a bowl of Crab and Shrimp Gumbo ($14) and the Buttermilk Fried Shrimp ($15), both were quite nice, but I ended up giving away 3 of the Shrimp to the diners who ordered the Linguine since their dish clearly lacked adequate protein. They comp'ed us an Olive Oil Cake which was also delicious. Service by Mo--y was outstanding. The kitchen was a bit slow on a slow night. At $193 including tip and and tax, it was a fair value. They need to improve the Linguine dish.

My wife and I visited Monger's for a Saturday night dinner out. It's relatively new, 5-6 months old. Definitely all about the fish....even has a small market where you can buy the same fish that you eat to take home! I had the fish and chips special, my wife....the scallops. Both were delicious. Pound cake for dessert.....pretty average....too dry for our liking.

You have got to try their homemade smoked fish dip. I love their grilled fish BLT prepared with delicious home grown tomatoes on a fresh baked sourdough roll.

Four of us ate dinner here and all felt the meal was excellent. We had hearty gumbo, mussels, scallops and red snapper. Great sauces on the fish. Nicely decorated and combined with small fish market. Beer and wine, no cocktails. Excellent service. Outside seating as well.

I went here to celebrate Father's Day. The main reason was he wanted to have swordfish. Our go-to was Truluck's, but they no longer serve swordfish. When we walked in, my husband asked what it used to be. I couldn't come up with it off the top of my head. Then, mid-meal, I remembered it was a wine place that we often visited in our younger days. Overall, it was a decent meal. Our waitress was not that friendly, but that was okay. She did her job well. My father enjoyed his entree, and that is what is essential. We ate early, so it was not that crowded, which made it easy to hear. I can see it would be loud if full. We made a reservation via Resy. I want to come back and explore the raw menu more.

Happened onto this place as we were leaving the Blue Owl brewery. One of our favorite meals in Austin - great mussels and delicious crabcake sandwich. Can sit inside or out, tunes are great. You won't be sorry...

A group of us went to Mongers for lunch. It was my first visit and it was outstanding. Each of our lunches came out perfectly prepared: chowder, sliders, salads, slaw, crab cake and a hamburger. Service was excellent. The decor creates a feeling of a beach restaurant. My advice is to get there just as it opens for lunch: 11:30. It fills up fast.

My wife and I and my son (the foodie) and his wife went for lunch on a Sunday. It was amazing. The oysters were top notch. The tuna Crudo was exceptional. Amongst us we had the special (fresh Dungeness crab), the Benedict, the white gazpacho, the smoked grouper omelet, and the french toast. Yes, we had five plates amongst the four of us, plus mimosas. It was exceptional. We all tried everything. The only thing that wasn't a big hit with me was the gazpacho, because of the bean base - it has a bit of a grainy texture. My son loved it. Lunch cost $200 with tip. Well worth it. The service was also excellent, although at times it was a tad slower than I'd like. But not enough to ding them. This is an exceptional place. If you have to save up to go here, it's well worth it!

We were recommended to this place by a friend and, after the reviews, had very high expectations. We started with the baked oysters and were sadly disappointed. Lacking in both flavor and presentation. The rest of the meal followed in the same vein, just lacking flavor. Service was good, but the staff seemed more interested in chatting to each other than any focus on their guests. When we ordered dessert, the almond cake was tasty, but the cake itself was stale. We were very excited about Mongers, but it definitely didn't live up to the hype. Hopefully it was just an off night, but I don't think we will return with all of the amazing options in Austin.

Located on the up and coming east Cesar Chavez, Mongers has some of the best options for quality seafood around (other than Quality Seafood itself of course!). Nice small plate samplings, fresh oysters and a pretty diverse beer selection, make this a solid evening dates spot on the east side. Cozy dining room, best seats are at the bar or the bar tops overlooking the Cesar Chavez. Attentive and knowledgeable staff. Only downside, other than being slightly pricey: Austin is desperately missing a GOOD fish n chips place, think newspaper and greasy fries - this would be the spot to enjoy on a lazy Friday afternoon sipping a IPA or porter....

First time at Mongers for lunch, small place but they do have parking, lovely staff, cute decor, great music selection, a little loud when it gets full. Best crab and shrimp gumbo I've had in Austin area by far, rivals the best in New Orleans. Fish dip and shishito appetizers were great, fish tacos and sandwiches were good, will go back to try more of the menu, the have brunch on weekends and several happy hour items as well, all around good place.

I live on the Florida Gulf Coast and ordered their grouper sandwich in Austin, Texas of all places. WOW. So was their ceviche and poke.

We had a group event that was held at Mongers. It is a relatively cozy and small place so it was a little tight for our group of 20. The food was out of this world. We must have ordered every single item from the menu and I do not recall a single dish that was anything less than delicious. They also sell sea food which adds a little character to the ambiance. Totally recommend it.

Went last night for the first time, on a trip to Austin to visit our daughter. I thought the restaurant was decorated very well. The sea shell screens to the bathrooms and the old boards on the interior, even the light fixture made out of a ladder were fun and creative and interesting. On the down side, one of the bathrooms had a soap dispenser on the wall that has been leaking so long that the baseboard it drips on has separated from the wall and is falling off? How could you miss that? Love the sink fixtures though, they are plunger type handles to release the water instead of those stupid motion sensors that never work. And now the food. I had a BBQ shrimp appetizer and was warned that it was messy. It was but the taste was very good, Unfortunately mine was way over cooked, which is so easy to do with Shrimp. When you cant peel the shrimp cuz the shrimp hull is burned into the meat, they are overcooked. My wife had the burrata salad and loved it so much we got another to go to take to our daughter. Next was our entree. I got the fish tacos and I really loved them. A slightly different take on one of my favorite dishes and I would get them again. I even thought the portion size was generous for a big man. My wife had the tuna and it was excellent as well. We split a blackberry cake and it was excellent and different from your everyday restaurant offerings in a desert. We like our server very much, she was a beautiful sweet lady, but the service was very slow. I gave the low rating because of the pre appetizer that I got, which was crab fingers. The portion and size of the crab fingers was a joke, they were the smallest crab fingers I have ever seen, Not only was this disappointing, but it enraged me to know that any restaurant could do so much damage to the Texas crab industry by killing and serving such tiny young crabs. This is the worst thing in the world to do, and the opposite of sustainable, responsible fishing, Also this restaurant is way way overpriced for what you get, It seems like casual dining, but 186$ drive out for three dinners , based on what we got it is insanely overpriced.

I am giving a 5 rating due to the excellence of the food quality and service. However, bring your purse. With the lobster roll at lunch being $30 our bill jumped up to $147 for lunch not including tip. Now we did have beers for all 4 of us and coffee with 2 shared desserts. So, obviously we were not conserving. Just be aware this is a pricey establishment. The very best ahi I have ever had in a Poke bowl!

My wife had dined here previously, and raved about the monkfish she'd had, so she picked Mongers for her birthday dinner. Despite having a reservation, we had to wait a good while until our table was vacant, ordering a drink from the bar while we waited. There was live music which was lovely to see/hear after the extended COVID music-less period. The decor is lovely, with both table and bar seating (along the wet bar). Of course, they didn't have monkfish on this evening, so she got sea bass ($35) instead, and had no complaints. A glass of wine was between $10-15, and my fish & chips was a whopping $21. Dinner for two, not including tip was close to $100. Service was friendly and helpful. Street parking.

Decorated simply in Low Country style, and with easy parking, the fish and seafood here are fresh, well presented and moderately priced. You can't go wrong with the shrimp, snapper, scallops and the fine fish tacos on the Happy Hour menu. Get there if you can before Happy Hour ends at 6 pm to try items not on the regular menu. This place is worth a detour.

My wife and I were hosting our son and 16 year old granddaughter for their birthdays; their choice. First time for us and we will return. Arrived just in time for happy hour, which offers great bargains, including the huge peel and eat shrimp (two half pound orders) which were enjoyed by our granddaughter, along with some very amazing twice fried FF. Unfortunately, those arrived late after our entrees were mostly eaten. Off the Happy Hour Menu, we also had the best Fried Green Tomatoes and a Baby Beat Salad-both excellent. The announced special fish of the evening was Branzino, which they were out of at 6:30, after I ordered it. Instead I had the Halibut, which was also great, a large portion of mid size pieces, along w baby potatoes; great enough to forget about the Branzino. Our son and my wife had Lobster Rolls, which were just like Cape Cod; generous lobster pieces and great toasted rolls.

Great dungeness crab, best I have ever had. Great Hamachi Crudo. This is as good as fresh seafood gets. Stop in here to satisfy your cravings, impress your friends and have some fun. Great brunch menu, super wine and craft brews.Chef Shane will not let you down. He has great support from Roberto and provides the freshest fish available from the Texas Gulf.

I lucked upon Mongers hoping for a decent brunch and got far more than expected. Many of the plates sounded good and so I got the "low country benedict" and my friend got the "lobster omelette". We split the plates and I was very impressed with both. Everything tasted VERY fresh. The lobster was tender and the eggs were light and tasty. Now its time to go back for dinner ;)

We were greeted at the door by a very enthusiastic person who obviously loved his job and knew a great fish when he saw one. Actually everyone working there seemed to love what they were doing. The menu offered a nice variety of seafood selections. I chose Angels on Horseback which was a variation that featured fried oysters and not shrimp. I loved it and although it was an appetizer it made for a nice lunch. My wife went for the Sea Scallops which were large and perfectly prepared. Our waiter suggested we have a michelada since we never had one. It was a little overwhelming at first but as the ice melted the sriracha and bloody mary mix reached a level that seemed to be a perfect pairing for the seafood.

We are in Austin for 3 days and we were really looking forward to tonight’s dinner. Coming from Maryland, we are used to varied and tasty seafood. Should you decide to come for dinner, i recommend you stick to appetizers and light fares. Two of the main dishes priced around $30 were just average (grouper and scallop). The linguine with clam lacked taste but had a tasty broth. My cherry stone clams were good but were on the small side. My crab and shrimp gumbo soup was large but it was loaded with too much rice, okra and vegetables and not enough seafood. We had a few other small appetizers that were tasty. If you want good seafood, try another place!

We went here last week and had a great time. We arrived before the rush so we were able to grab a small table for two. To start we had 1/2 dozen oysters and the beet salad. The oysters were delish and I was happy to see they had Crystal hot sauce. Personally, I find it a lot better than Tabasco. For the main course we split the fish and chips. The fish as a flounder and it melted in your mouth. I wish I had gotten my own plate, but there is always next time. Our server was very friendly, and the only reason I gave it a 4 out of 5 is the pricing. It's a little pricey. Hence, we were there for date night.

We tried this place for the first time and couldn't believe how great it was. The oysters were the best we have had in Austin to date. The clam chowder was creamy and delicious but it was the Snapper that was the show stopper. Mouth watering and cooked to perfection, the fish is something we will crave. Our service was wonderful and the restaurant is tastefully rustic and adorable...felt like we were on the coast. Can't wait.to go back and try their brunch!

Monger is on East Cesar Chavez, an area that is experiencing a revitalization. There appear to be many good restaurants here, and we chose a good one. Seafood is their specialty but they had something for everyone.

Service is friendly. Best to make a reservation. The mussels were excellent. Large portion, great taste. The BBQ shrimp were disappointing. Over cooked, hard to peel. They are large, prawn sized, but rubbery. The thin sliced brisket served on top is excellent. Should just offer up the brisket. The fish and grits are excellent. What a wonderful combination of flavors. The kitchen got behind and we waited longer than we should, but the fish and grits were worth the wait. Very happy. Over all impression is good. I would like too explore the rest of the menu.

Fantastic evening. Great service. Fresh. Fresh. Fresh. Seafood. Grouper expertly prepared. Burrata salad is done with a great dressing. Desserts are excellent. Nice wine and beer menu. Outside seating as well as community tables available. Tables are nicely spaced even though the space is small.

I'm writing this in August, and we ate at Mongers in June. Because I can't forget this place, I had to write this review. We had two poké dishes, oysters, and a deep fried whole red snapper. I'm from Hawaii, and I've never had poké or snapper done so well. In Hawaii we can be a bit heavy-handed on flavor. Every dish we had at Mongers was seasoned with excellence! There was no doubt as to the freshness of the fishes and oysters. And the chefs, aside from being amazing cooks, were so warm and friendly. Parking provided, decor very tasteful, indoor and outdoor tables.

We visited on Friday night with a reservation and were seated right away. We had already studied the menu and knew what we wanted to order. Our server brought us water and took our order right away. For starters we had Oyster's on the 1/2 shell. They have 4 kinds and we tried all 4, they were all super fresh and delicious. They are served with lemon, hot sauce, horseradish and red sauce on the side so you can spice them up if you want. Next up was the Seafood Chowder, we shared a cup and it was full of fish chunks, a mussel and a clam. It was also really tasty and I might have a bowl of this as my main course on our next visit. For mains we had ordered the Lobster Roll and the Fish and Chips and we both enjoyed our meals immensely. I doubt that there is better Fish and Chips in Austin, but certainly haven't tried every Fish and Chips, so I could be wrong. We also shared a side of the Mushrooms and they were so good we considered ordering a second order to take home. Service was very good, and while I know many folks here have commented that the food is pricey, we found the pricing to be reasonable so I'd rate it fair value. If I could recommend an improvement it would be to fix the potholes in the parking lot. It's a bit dangerous in the dark and rain.

I can't say anything but positive things about their food. It is a bit pricey, but vetty very delicious. I started with a half dozen raw clams, about $14. This is a rare offering, so I was very happy to order them. They were child and delicious. Even the cocktail sauce was top notch. Followed with the seafood chowder. It was a delicate broth that was delicately seasoned, with perfect salinity. I added black pepper, because I love that flavor with chowder. I wish there was a bit more fish, in the soup... but I loved that they didn't thicken it. It was really perfect. Lastly, I ordered the burrata salad. The waitress informed me that the pancetta, which is listed on the menu, is a mistake. I was a bit sad... but after eating it, I'm glad they didn't add it. It was wonderfully balanced in flavor, and a good portion. I wished for one more slice of baguette. I suffered. Lol. My final bill was $56 with 2 glasses of wine. I would have given them 5 stars, but the dining room and bar ate too tight, and a bit uncomfortable. I was at first seated at the window bar, by myself. No one came after they gave me water... So I requested to move to the bar which they accommodated immediately. The chairs are those small metal square stools... which are always uncomfortable... and the bar is a bit shallow for looking legs. I wish the was a bit more room. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, and would go back, and sit in the beautiful patio.

Located just east of downtown, but not within walking distance, we had dinner last night with a friend at Mongers and just loved it. It's located in a small refurbished building with a little patio out front. The setting is really intimate as there are only about 10 tables inside. We made reservations for 7:00 pm and by 7:30 the place was packed. The noise level builds as the crowd increases. The food was really spectacular. I had the sea scallops and my husband had the red snapper. We had a fried shrimp appetizer and brussel sprouts as a veggie side. All were really good. We had a Russian River Chardonnay to go with it. The prices were good, $25ish for the entrees. Sides were extra. The service was good. The fish was extremely fresh and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was fun and lively. We will definitely go back.

Good music and great food. Went for brunch and menu was varied and creative. Burrata app is fantastic along with any of the ceviche dishes.

This tiny gem located in East Austin, has delicious seafood, an extensive wine list and nice variety of beers. We had the roasted peppers and a side of Brussels sprouts for an appetizer, yummy. I had the Bibb lettuce salad, which had pears and a light vinaigrette.my husband had the New England seafood chowder whisk was loaded with seafood and excellent. My daughter and he had the lobster roll sandwich which had plenty of cold lobster in a light mayo sauce served with exceptionally good home fries. I had a special of tuna with a light miso citrus accompaniment. The service was quite good, only criticism was the noise level.

Had a lovely brunch at Monger's a few months ago. The softshell crab sandwich was very good and the micheladas were excellent!

Very relaxed and nice atmosphere with a big patio for outdoor seating--good date spot! Good oysters, delicious fried grouper sandwich, great potato salad, yummy ceviche. Boyfriend loves the shishito peppers! The only thing on their menu I don't like is their gumbo. Prices are better than Perla's or Clark's for sure.

Small and charming, you might find a seat at the bar and cash the fish monger cleaning the days catch. Service and food are fantastic, great wine selection. Absolutely one of the best spots in Austin.

We recently visited Monger's a part of a food tour. Coming from South Carolina, I wasn't sure how good seafood in Texas might be. While I typically eat steamed oysters, I decided to venture out and try the raw oysters. They were delicious, especially with the vinagrette served with them. We also tried the gulf shrimp, which weren't my favorite, probably because I prefer local SC shrimp. The last dish we sampled was the ceviche. It was absolutely fantastic. It tasted quite fresh and the thinly sliced pepper in it gave it a nice kick. Great place! PS--Also love the rustic coastal decor. Highly recommend.

This place is without a doubt super yummy! If you are a seafood fanatic, GO! Everything is super fresh! Some of the best in Austin in my opinion.

A casual restaurant makes this place a perfect setting to drink a happy hour beverage and enjoy ahi tuna tacos. A smoked trout dip can be complimented by a beer or wine.. no cocktails here. Service is great. There is community table sitting, a nice table on the patio, or a choice of small or picnic table seatings.

This is the place to get the absolute freshest catch possible in Austin. Chef Shane does an incredible job at sourcing the finest that the sea has to offer. Todays special was blue fin tuna in a "poke bowl" greens and goodies with tuna in wasabi sauce. You will love this place if fresh catch is your craving.

The restaurant is somewhat small and can only seat about 20 people, so be prepared to wait if your party is less than six persons. They do take reservations for a party of six or more. We waited a while for a table to become available, but the food was worth the wait. We started out with oysters on the half-shell and they were heavenly and very buttery. We then ordered the baked oysters and these were equally good and delicious. Then came our Entree... the red snapper. This was definitely one of the very best red snapper I've ever had. Freshly pan-fried and finished with a very yummy sauce on top.It was so yummy we inhaled it. The service was truly impeccable. Kudos to the owner(s) and the entire staff for a job well done. This was a very memorable restaurant and I will certainly return on my next trip to Austin.

The fish was delicious, perfectly cooked! The service was more than good. The waiters were particularly gentle!

Came for brunch . Easy parking , great service . The lobster omelette special with broccolini was awesome . Can't wait to try dinner .

Mongers is a small place specializing in seafood. As we walked in the door, a chef was breaking down a 8 or 9 pound red snapper in the market area of the store. Obviously fresh, we did order the snapper as one of our dishes. Soft shell crabs were on the menu, flash fried and served with a beautiful dressing garnish. Perfectly cooked. A mind blowing order of Grouper and cheese grits was perfect with a light tasso sauce and a soft poached egg on top. I'll never ear shrimp and grits again after that dish.

We were recommended this place by our Air BnB host and it's spot on! The Angels on horseback are the best I've ever had and the fried Brussel sprouts are excellent! Eat here!

We discovered Monger’s while searching for a place to have a nice dinner out and we’re glad we did! We booked an inside table for 6:45pm and had a short wait for a spot to open up- no worries as a glass of Prosecco at the bar quickly passed the time. After being seated and greeted by our waiter, we looked over the menu and heard about the specials. We started with the Crudo and Roasted Shishito Peppers. The Crudo was beautifully plated but lacked any distinctive flavor while the peppers were very good. We followed the starters with the Buratta salad which was excellent! On to the main course - a Whole Branzino that was lightly fried and served with a sweet chili sauce- the fish was perfectly cooked and the sauce complimented it well. Rounding off the meal was a key lime parfait- very tasty- Mongers offers a nice selection of wines and several by the glass with reasonable prices. While Austin has a few other excellent seafood restaurants I’d say Mongers is the best value with very good dishes that are simply prepared and not overdone with too many ingredients and generous portions- most mains can be split and are a good follow up to having multiple starters. We didn’t order the lobster Mac and cheese but judging by how many other tables did, I’m guessing it’s very good. We’ll make to try it on our next visit! As well, being on the East Side and away from the “in” spots downtown makes Mongers a place “to eat and relax” as opposed to a place to “be seen and on display”. Definitely a neighborhood feel to the place and parking is very easy- plenty of spaces right behind the restaurant- some free and others you pay for. Add Mongers to you list of places to eat in Austin.

A unique fish market that serves only the freshest seafood I've ever had. The choices of seafood is spot on no matter your taste, from raw to baked to fried. The wine selections are super as were the appetizers. It is a "must dine here" if you are craving seafood in Austin. We will return!

This was our first time dining in Austin and I used TA to narrow down all the seafood choices and looked for ones that were not part of a chain. Could not be happier with Mongers as our choice. Great wine selection, appetizers and entrees. We had the gumbo, crab and fried Brussel Sprouts for appetizers and then the Grouper with Grits and the Red Snapper on a bed of bok choy for entries. All good selections and unbelievably fresh. Highly recommended.

Being from Central Texas the seafood is limited. Mongers is the place to go! I wouldn't recommend it for kids, given the wait time, but the wait was worth the experience. Though a simple appetizer, you MUST get the peel and eat shrimp. I have no idea how they get the flavors infused in the shrimp like that, but it was by far the best shrimp I've ever had (even loved the homemade cocktail sauce!)! We split both our entrees and both exceeded expectations-snapper plate and the scallop plate.

Being in Austin 5 years, a "foodie" town known for tacos and BBQ, I generally save eating seafood for when I visit coastal regions. But eating at Mongers yesterday will change that. In a nutshell, great, fresh food, great atmosphere, not too expensive. Most of the overly creative "next most amazing flavor of the week" restaurants that pop up regularly, lose me when the meals are too expensive, and don't even taste very good. Mongers has a great combo of classic, quality, and uniqueness that was impressive. It's nice to know I can now go have a great seafood meal in Austin!

Had wanted to go since it opened earlier this year. Went with a friend on a Saturday afternoon. Surprised to find no Gulf oysters, only $3.00 a piece imports from New England. Limited beer list, and all drinks were over-priced. The boiled shrimp were good, jumbo's that were fresh. But with the casual ambiance, and location, the menu and and prices seemed pretentious. They would be better off being a traditional oyster bar with an up-scale menu and a larger beer selection.

Prawns, Green Fried Tomatoes, Mushrooms, Mac n Cheese, Gumbo & Red Snapper....it was all Dee-Lish !! Good portions, not a huge Menu, but was hard to choose, because it all sound sooo good !! The Outside seating in a Chilly Nite was cool...as there were heaters at every table. Oh yeah, we had Raw Oysters too !! Yumm !!

Fresh, delicious, casual classy- outside patio. Ceviche, oysters, tuna, fried green tomatoes. Walk to from Haywood Hotel -enjoy apps and/or dinner. Really fresh fish/seafood. Ask for recommendations from waiter. Nice wine selection.

This place is EPIC! Great service, Great Food and Great Wines! We will be back very soon. The feel was great and the tunes were very hip. Thank you Mongers!

One of the newer, hip eastside restaurants that bodes well for Austin's culinary scene. First, the food is fantastic. It's original without being too full of itself (Salmon Wings, anyone?) The decor is a chic nod to a coastal seafood joint without overplaying it. One issue: it's small. You will invariably have to wait, so be prepared. The new patio is nice and will be decidedly nicer when the overhead fans are installed. Service is friendly, prompt and smart. We've been big fans of Perla's as a true seafood house in Austin, but Mongers gives us another GREAT option.

Besides fine seafoood, get the top level seafood chowder and gumbo. The best around and redolent of the Low Country. I

After traveling for several days around central Texas, I was having dinner with friends in Austin and wanted something that was not red meat. A colleague suggested Mongers, and we walked in for dinner on a Friday night (around 6:30 pm). It was a great choice. Everything is fresh and tasty. I started with steamed shrimp (spiced with Old Bay, a Maryland favorite!) while my dining mates started with oysters. We also shared a fish dip that was excellent. For dinner, I had fish taco, but ordered them grilled instead of fried. They were fresh, with just a little heat. My friends had the scallops and a fish sandwich, both of which they really liked. Drink list was also good with many wines by the glass and beers to choose from. Service was also outstanding. They were attentive, but not bothersome in making sure we had everything we wanted.

This place is a gem. Anyone who loves fresh seafood, perfectly yet unusually prepared, should make an effort to eat here. The crudo/poke selection was so intriguing it was hard to decide. We ended up with Spicy Ono Poke with a light aioli touch and a brilliant Escolar Crudo which was so beautiful it was hard to take the first bite. We ordered two different entrees as well: halibut and gulf grouper. The halibut came with a brilliant carrot puree and the grouper with prosciutto, kale and hen of the woods mushrooms was just glorious. Save room for dessert, if you can. The desserts were also excellent.

Pretty, pretty, pretty good but just a little too loud, a little too expensive. It was all well done, but 1 entree 1 sandwich, 1 appetizer & 1 dessert came to $70. And the entree was just just a small piece of fish. Delicious, but not a meal. Austin is filled with restaurants that are really quite good but not good enough to make me want to return any time soon. This is one of them. (The couple next to us brought an infant and a toddler and ordered a bottle of wine. And whose driving home?)

The food was wonderful. The wine was excellent and the overall bill was relatively reasonable. Very nice evening.

Great place! Table was a few minutes late from the reserved time so they comped us an appetizer. There were 3 of us and all of our meals were great. Our waitress was VERY good and knowledgeable about the menu. Cool atmosphere without trying TOO hard to be cool (you know what I mean!). They know their fish. And there were a few things for non-fish people (a steak and a burger).

We dined here while visiting Austin this weekend. The seafood was incredibly fresh and the place has a fun and relaxing vibe. The fish spread is amazing and the fish tacos were excellent. We also had some chowder and snapper and there was a great mix of flavors. The owner/chef and his wife were both there making sure everyone had a good time. Good wine list too. We will definitely be back next time we are in Austin. Wish they would open a Monger's near me:)

Monger's is slowly but surely becoming one of my go-to spots for fresh and creative cuisine. I continue to be impressed by the thoughtfulness that goes into the flavor profiles and combinations of their entrees, and as a result, I enjoyed one of the most perfectly prepared cuts of fish that I have ever had. What a treat! While I do consider this to be fine dining, it is a very active and social atmosphere. It is bright and boisterous in a good way unless you are looking for a more quiet and intimate setting. Everything went smoothly with our reservation, and service was excellent. Pro Tip: If you order the mussels (and you should), do yourself a favor by ordering another loaf of bread BEFORE you devour the bowl. You can thank me later.

We went with friends to check this place out. Quite pleasantly surprised. Seafood was fresh and tasty (I particularly liked the Tuna Poke Taco), and despite being beer and wine only the drink selection was good. Ambiance is nice, upscale but not too formal and the service was quite good.

I didn't know what to think when my husband suggested this place. I'm very picky about my seafood, especially being in the middle of Texas. I was so happy to see the quality of the seafood. The waitstaff was knowledgable and helpful when picking out what to eat. I just fell in love with this place and I will be going back. Not a place I'd take my kids to. But that's cool, I like having places to go without them!

A couple of friends and I went to dinner here last week and had a great time. We shared all the appetizers, had fresh oysters, and all got an entree. Everything was really good. Great service as well.

It was my last night in Austin, I was looking for a decent restaurant close to my hotel (near the airport). I have to admit, I found out about this place in the local restaurant magazine you find in your hotel room. That all said, I was very pleased with Mongers. The atmosphere is very cool, the waitress was attentive and helpful. I had the gumbo witch was very tasty and uniquely seasoned. It had chunks of fresh crab as well as several crab claws that were clearly very fresh. For dinner I had the fish tacos. Lightly fried red snapper was wrapped in home-made tortillas. A light chipotle sauce and fresh greens/cilantro enhanced the meal. I would definitely go back
Mongers
This is a fun seafood place on Cesar Chavez. The decor is interesting, loved the hanging shell/driftwood. Try Angels on Horseback. They are a different treatment of oysters. Gumbo is excellent. The frying medium on the Fish and Chips could have been 10 degrees hotter as the result was greasy batter on the cod. Service is good, not overly attentive but right for a weekend night. Prices reasonable
