Great food in an enjoyable ambience

By Jet508681 |

What more can you expect in a farmer's market than well laid out tables with silver and table cloth and great service. We had no great expectations and were surprised very pleasantly. Fish was excellent and so was the wine

French option in Farmers Market/The Grove

By Renato L |

Farmers Market has a lot of "Market"food, I wanted some French food and had a good Steak Poivre, Onion soup, and Creme brulee.

Farmer’s Market Find

By Patti223 |

With so many food choices at LA’s farmers market, a lunch selection was overwhelming. Finally decided to pass on quick food and sit down to enjoy a French meal. I had the shrimp saffron risotto...AMAZING!! Hubby had veal shank and it was a little tough, if I am being honest. Don’t think it was braising as long as they claimed. Noisy because of location in the middle of farmers market but that was to be expected

Treasure trove!

By Aziza Khan |

Lovely friendly staff and what a choice of foods and spices and other charming items! You can sample a few foods on sale. Browse, browse, browse! Take a sturdy recyclable bag to put your shopping in!

Very pleasant lunch or dinner.

By GeorgicaPond |

Very decent food at reasonable prices. In nice weather, it's a lovely place to have a casual meal. The menu is interesting, the wine list good and the atmosphere always pleasant. A good local find.

Great French Food in a Great Location

By Bobbie W |

Monsieur Marcel was a wonderful place for dinner with family. It has the best French food. I had excellent salmon and my husband really enjoyed the Beef Bourguignon. My son and his fiancé had fantastic dinners as well. Authentic French food and a marvelous menu. The Farmer's Market is a fun area to visit.

Great french ambiance in Food Market

By Paola K |

Lovely French food in a great setting in the middle of the Food Market in Fairfax. Authentic french cuisine and a fabulous store right next door with all sort of French delicacies like olive oils, chocolates and wines.

Love this place

By StationToStation |

It's been in the Farmer's Market for a long time. It's a classic French bistro. Since the Farmer's Market has an indoor/outdoor feel, the set up isn't too different from a French bistro you'd find on the streets of Paris. And the food is classic well prepared bistro cuisine. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. They also have an accompanying market store that is loaded with French and other European foods to buy to take home.

Not great

By Joanne marie K |

We went here for breakfast and the service was not great, we were seated quickly anf ordered quickly so good start but it then took 15 minutes to get our drinks we ordered a hot tea and coffee i wouldnt mind but it was not busy and at least 3 members of staff asked us what we were waiting for in that time but didnt go to get them when we told them. The wrong coffee was brought out which we had to swap. Food was ok at best.

Perfect !!!!

By ol31-Tlse |

Unfortunately, we were in a bit of a hurry. We announced it when we arrived. They were very, very efficient and very, very, very kind. From the boss to the waiters it was a pleasure. On the restaurant side, important all the same, it was delicious. So excellent address. A big thank-you

Don’t go…tourist trap

By James W |

Steak frites…with cold chips. For $30. This place is trading on reputation it’s terrible. Don’t waste your money. Bread never came. Wine passable at best.

Unexpected Pleasure

By IamBMW |

After a day of meetings and lots to do - stopped by the Farmer's Market to get some needed gifts. It was dinner time, so after walking through the large variety of eateries, settled on Monsieur Marcel. Greeted and seated, Ally came to take our order. I asked for the three beet salad (French Feta, upland cress and candied walnuts), plus the tuna tartar (avocado, crispy shallots, yuzu ponzu). A nice light and healthy dinner. My bestie ordered the daily special, cream of mushroom soup with the hangar steak with peppercorn sauce and steak fries. Dessert - a shared chocolate NUAGE cake...mmmmmmmm so good! I will be going back soon!!!!!!

Small place w/ hugely good taste

Excellent

By VSSUBR |

After an hour or so wandering through the farmers market here in LA, we decided we (me, my wife, and two kids 9 and 11) needed to grab a bite. Monsieur Marcel's looked very inviting, decked out with nice white table cloths and red, white and blue French flags. The kids had a fizzy French lemonade, while I had a classic salad with Chèvre Chaud. I've had this salad many times in France - and MM did not disappoint. A fresh and crisp butter lettuce, garnished with finely chopped chives and cherry tomatoes, dressed in a very light French vinaigrette, accompanied as usual with lightly toasted French bread rounds with warm chèvre on it made a healthy lunch. The kids had Mac and cheese - and a pasta with red marinara sauce - and both were happy. I washed my salad down with a crisp Bergerac (Sauvignon blanc). The place was 100% authentic - we heard genuine French accents around us. Service was excellent. Our bill was around $80 including 2 glasses of wine. I couldn't resist going to the French country store attached to the restaurant where I bought an amazing bottle of love oil and some yummy mustard. All in all, a great experience.

Very Nice

By Rschagrin |

Great gourmet market inside the Farmer's market. They have a great selection of gourmet foods, cooking accessories, and gift items. They also have a very nice French café outside.

Spices & Preservatives

By Andres72423 |

At first I was a bit confused. I guess they are a restaurant, bar and store all rolled up into one. We visited the store to check on some of their specialty items. In the store they had a cheese section, spices, preservatives and olive oil section. They also had wine and cooking items as well. My gf wanted to purchase some preservatives and some wine while she was there. We really enjoyed this place and we recommend it for anyone else looking for those types of food items.

Casual French Cuisine and Atmosphere

By Peter K |

Everyday French Restaurant. It makes you feel you are in France, Without leaving Los Angeles, California. Food is Great . Cozy Atmosphere, Fast and Friendly Service.

WHAT A JOY!

By kwaaak |

What could be better than sitting in the sun enjoying delicious French food and watching strollers on Santa Monica's 3rd Street? Only a sidewalk cafe in Paris or Nice. From the bountiful cheese plates to luscious burgers, this restaurant was our lucky discovery. We'll be back!

Cool French Cafe at the farmer's market

By Jon F |

This is a fun restaurant in the open air market. Seating is available at the bar, in a small covered area and at umbrella tables. We enjoyed the live vibe and fresh air. The food was very fresh and well prepared. The service was only average.

Great Outdoor Dining for People Watching

By ArizonaJT |

On a beautiful afternoon, Monsieur Marcel's is a great place to get a patio table, have lunch, and watch people on the 3rd Street Promenade. Food was good. Service was great. But the main reason for my visit was to sit outside and enjoy the weather.

A tasteful experience in LA

By Vera A |

Inside the original farmers market, the tables are located under the trees. The food came in beautifully arranged dishes and was simply delicious: we had the "confit de canard" and the "boeuf Bourguignon".

Very French!

By FirstClass001 |

A piece of France in the middle of SoCal. However the prices were crazy expensive. Great service. Not sure if I would return again.

Fresh food

By avidwalker |

After visiting the La Brea Tar Pits, we walked over to the Farmer's Market to lunch for a place for lunch. This place was so airy and inviting (plus they had a burger on the children's menu for my friend's son), so we tried it. My salad was fresh and delicious. My husband said the same about his chicken sandwich. Very nice service, very nice location. I would recommend eating here. (Plus the accompanying store is fabulous.)

Cute French seafood restaurant with disappointing fish

By Tako9 |

We Had just eaten our way through the farmers market when we stumbled upon this cute French Restaurant. My family decided that the duck special and seafood sounded too good to miss, so we did some shopping to work up an appetite. The French atmosphere was very nice, the duck was gone by the time we returned, but the waiter assured us it was indeed very good and we should be sad we missed it. 😕 We ordered lamb and French onion soup which were very good, but my seafood of the day was very over done and very dry, very disappointing for a seafood restaurant. The waiter offered to get me another piece, but I would have wasted it, so I declined.

The food and service can't be beat

By Eric O |

I had the best eggs benedict possible. It was 2 poached egss on 2 halves of avocado. Nothing else compares. I'm anxious to go back again

It's not very French....

By Donaldo D |

It's not very French, especially the portions: they're gigantic! If you're hungry (that was the case) it's a good place to eat. Some customers were trying to speak French (I don't speak it, but I'd say they managed it!). There is a small market next door with lots of things imported from France and other countries.

Great place for people watching

By moniqueashbrook |

While at The Grove we stop for margaritas that were made to perfection, the place is very nice and the service very good. We decided to have lunch at a Greek place but definitely will be back for the food.

Great spot to find French Products

By Teri F |

Located in the Farmer's Market this store is a great find for those in pursuit of French items. Wine, Olive Oil, Vinegar, Linens - all in one spot. We did not eat at the restaurant as we visited when they opened, too early for lunch. If we lived in the area we would shop here and perhaps eat too.

French delight amidst promenade fun

By Anjana A |

I was looking for the perfect French quiche for quite a long time and my search ended here. Wow! That was one heck of a Spinach and Cheese quiche and awesome French wine. The authentic French taste really delighted me and the service was very good too. The best part of this cafe/ restaurant is that they have this really cool outdoor seating where you can enjoy the 3rd Street promenade fun. So do your infinite shopping in 3rd Street, enjoy the street performances and wind up your day by treating your tummy at Monsieur Marcel.

Spectacular cheese selections!

By Rebeca P |

We went to France on vacation earlier this summer, and did a lot of food shopping and cooking while we were there. Entering Marcel’s was a lot like visiting a French market! The selection of cheeses is spectacular! And they have many other staples. Irresistible kitchen gadgets, too, and even the drinking glasses we had admired at our French air B&B! We capped the visit with desserts at their restaurant, which were delicious, as expected.

Great French Restaurant at the back of the Farmers Market.

By Jeff R |

Whilst making our way around the farmers market we came across Monsieur Marcels and decided to have lunch enjoyed it so much that we went back a second time both reviews follow. On both occasions the staff and the service was very good, and the menu as enough options that to come here twice in 3 days we still had loads of options. We had a bottle of the morgan B wine on both occasions on our first visit I had French onion soup followed by the prime hanger steak cooked medium came with all the bits and pieces, whilst Yvette had the Maryland blue crab to start with and the Pacific halibut for mains, I finished off with a cup of black coffee. On our second visit I had the French onion soup again followed by the Beef Bourguignon, whilst yvette had a crab salad to start with followed by a prime hanger steak. Really very goood food, wine and service and they have a great shop next to the restaurant as well.

Fresh Osters and Lobster

By canuck22SanFrancisco |

Dropped by the market after shopping and spotted the lobster special. Great PEI oysters and very fresh lobster perfectly cooked. Good house wine. Oysters openned very professionally. A do again.

Bad experience in Santa monuca

By CrossfitCornerstone |

Went to location in Santa Monica. Food was not tasty. Waitress was however awesome. We heard and saw one server arguing with the cook. It was an awkward and not so enjoyable experience

Crowded and noisy, with disappointing food

By Mike and Maria B |

We've previously enjoyed several meals at Monsieur Marcel's, and recently dropped in for a late lunch. It's obviously still a popular place, with all tables occupied, but the tight spacing did make for a noisy, slightly uncomfortable meal. On this occasion, our dishes were quite boring, with not much flavour. A pinot grigio we chose, was particularly ordinary - capping a fairly disappointing meal.

Terrible and traumatic experience

By Joe S |

"I recently had a truly unacceptable experience at Monsieur Marcel Gourmet Market. Despite me clearly stating my service animal was a task performing service. The lady (whom refused to provide her name, just claims to “own the place”) at the store illegally asked about the tasks it performs for me and persisted in asking personal questions about my what my medical condition is, even after I informed her that she was not allowed to do so. Not only was her behavior inappropriate and illegal, but she continued to make attempts to embarrass and intimidate me. It is important to note that service animals are protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and it is illegal for a business to discriminate against individuals with disabilities by inquiring about their medical conditions or asking about the specific tasks performed by their service animal. This type of behavior is a violation of Title III of the ADA and can result in serious consequences for the business. I hope that the management at Monsieur Marcel Gourmet Market takes this situation seriously and takes appropriate measures to ensure that all employees are properly trained and understand the laws regarding service animals and the rights of individuals with disabilities. I would not recommend this store to anyone due to the rude and illegal behavior of this employee I’m posting a screenshot of the video I took, I won’t stoop so low like she did and show her face so I’ll crop that out. This lady need education.

European food market and outdoor cafe. Tres bien!

By Daniel B |

Monsieur Marcel offers European foods (and some kitchen/dining items) in a crowded, yet attractive environment. Staff is available to answer questions, provide recommendations, and search out unusual choices. The outdoor cafe provides light French fare. The French onion soup was the best we've ever tasted!. Again, service was attentive and friendly. Both sites are must see venues at the Farmers Market.

Simple lunch

By Phil B |

Great location set in the farmers market. I had the French onion soup of course was very good plenty of body and taste. My wife asked if the foire gray was seared and was told yes anyway it came as a terrine but tasted good.

Great spot for lunch

By CEMARMITAGE |

This is a restaurant full of atmosphere with friendly staff and great food at reasonable prices. Lunch there made our day in a visit to The Grove. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

Disappointed

By Afroza S |

Found the utensils not properly cleaned. Quite expensive in terms of served portion. The host seemed not that friendly.

A very POSITIVE EXPERIENCE

By Jean R |

My husband and I had lunch during the week at Monsieur Marcel's. It was around 1pm. We were in a hurry, and pleasantly surprised that we did not have to wait for a table! We sat right down. The Table and Chairs were clean, which is a challenge for an outdoor Restaurant! The Server was very pleasant, my warm goat's cheese Salad was absolutely delicious, as usual, but my husband wasn't happy with his Croque Monsieur, (Hot Sandwhich with Ham/Cheese/Egg). The bread was a bit soggy, so would not order that again. We were in and out within 30 minutes! We will definitely go back!

A treasure trove of beautiful gourmet goods

By lottie03 |

I came across Monsieur Marcel where, after perusing the fantastic rang of gourmet goods on offer, I was able to purchase a Normandie sandwich, one of the nicest things across my lips in a long time, with a mini bottle of fizz to wash it down. Salad boxes were available at a discount as I had bought a sandwich. I went for a mixture of couscous and mixed tomatoes. Totally delicious. I had a look at the beautiful displays of food and kitchen gadgets as I waited for the sandwich to be prepared. There were many unusual items. Not cheap, but quality goods with great service.

The best seafood risotto ever!!

By GladisCosta |

This is one of the many restaurants of Farmers Market in Los Angeles. French inspiration, great service and reasonable prices. I told them I wanted to try the risoto, but had a very tight deadlin since I was in a tour. They were very prompt and made everything just great. Loved it.....Just a remark: the food was amazing, but it´s a small meal.. Should have ordered another one.....

Authentic and delicious

By Sarah R |

I loved eating here in the Farmer's Market and very much enjoyed my meal -- salade chevre, poulet roti, tarte tatin (if I recall correctly) -- which tasted much like these classics do in similar venues in the South of France. All that was missing was a the peche (from a can, naturellement) in my hand and I could have been at a family-run inn in Bonnieux. I appreciate a genuine, high-quality, authentic experience at a meal and I enjoyed this one tremendously. I almost forgot I was in LA!

Great lunch at the Farmer's Market

By minnesotans4 |

What a great French restaurant to have lunch while visiting the farmer's market! My daughter and I split the six oysters and thought they were flavorful. My French onion soup was simply the best. We shared the Italian plate which had generous portions of different cheeses and meats. The 2016 cotes du Rhone went great with the food. Their store next door was a shopper's paradise of food, wine, and souvenirs. We walked out carrying several large bags of items that we "needed".

An authentic french cafe in the heart of the Promenade!

By Maria S |

Loved it. Loved it on my own, with my two young boys, and with the whole extended family! Great coffee, great desserts, the staff are all french, what a difference. yay!

Good food but even better gourmet store attached

By Chinapjs |

One of the highlights of our visit to the gigantic Los Angeles Farmers Market was Monsieur Marcel. The wine and cheese was good and other plates looked good too but the attached store was fantastic. If it deals with cooking and you can't find it here, you didn't try hard enough or ask enough people. Cheese section also superb

"Busy"

By Blueyes60 |

Great place! good to sit, eat, and people watch with a glass of something, very nice quiche. lorraine

A LOVELY shelter from the rain!

By Tracy T |

Our final day in L.A. was a rainy one, so we ducked into the Farmer's Market just to dry out and warm up. We stumbled across this little French gem and were soooooooooo glad we did. Perry waited on us and truly could not have made the experience any better. We had champagne, followed by a wine/cheese flight. While the wine and cheese were wonderful, Perry made the difference between an average experience and one that was superb. Highly recommend - ask for Perry!

High Quality and great location

By Frederic R |

Perfect place for a break with friends. The location is very unique, open and perfect for a large group of people. The food is great, I had the merguez/frite which is not easy to find in California. Quantity are correct. Bread is excellent and desert (Tarte Tatin) just wonderful. Good service. Only issue you can't order alcohol.

Worth seeking out

By wher2next |

My wife and I sought this place out because she wanted the same Quiche Lorraine experience she had in Paris. Well, when she changed her mind and ordered the croque monsieur... it was a winner! My apple, bacon and brie sandwich and both of our fries with herbs de Provence were more than delicious. If you are pressed for time, look at maps before so you know what side of the Grove to go to and the best place to park because the entire place is surrounded by businesses and traffic in all directions.

Nice restaurant for a relaxed evening.

By Ben R |

I had a fillet mignon and it was absolutely amazing and probely the best steak I have had in this area. The desert (tarte tatin) was good as well very tasty Defenatly come back. Waitress very happy.

Clean fresh food

By johnnycash3630 |

Looked for a place to sit and eat and came across Marcels...we had the baguette with turkey avocado and fries...ingredients fresh and bread up to European standards

Healthy and amazingly tasty!

By Vicki K |

My father used to say "that's not 'good', it's 'tasty'" since he was all about health. But this restaurant, though small, has mighty good flavor, and the crispScottish salmon over spaghetti squash was beautifully cooked, delicious, gluten free, and a wonderful alternative to cooking every night. I would return in a heartbeat for this dish! And Joey ordered the California sandwich (I couldn't try it due to the light, soft and crispy baguette that cradled turkey, pepperjack cheese, vine ripened tomatoes, avocado, and aoli dressing). He was VERY happy with his sandwich and said he'd return for this as well - but be advised - you must order that sandwich before 5PM. It's apparently not available for dinner. I purchase at the Grove/Farmers Market often, but didn't know this restaurant was here - so glad to know !!

France without the cost

By David S |

Have been here in several occasions and have always had a nice experience. Happy hour prices are good and the menu is extensive. Bring a friend or your significant other to relax and enjoy the food and service.

Gen of Bistro

By Dracoschnauzer Dad |

This wonderful gem is tucked away in a corner of Farmers' Market on the front of a gourmet food shop. It's tables and counters are spread across three stalls. The service is wonderfully unhurried and attentive without hovering. The menu has a fine selection of nibbles, salads, sandwiches (the croque monsieur tastes like it just arrived from Paris) and entrees, but what sets this place apart are the meat and cheese boards. You can choose a curated board from either France, Spain or Italy or you choose create one of your own from a selection of 30+ European and domestic cheeses, meats and pâtés. For dessert, save room for the tarte tatin.

Great Spot

By ShaunW1968 |

We absolutely loved the Monsieur Marcel's deli in the Farmers Market, it has loads of absolutely awesome foods, and the guys are so helpful. We decided to stay on for a couple of glasses of wine and people watch for a while. The freshly made rolls we ordered that came directly out from the deli were fantastic. We highly recommend you stop in.

Beautiful store and Delicious food

By Ximena NF |

The store is so beautiful, with a lot of french things, books, wines, kitchen tools and more. There you can find delicious food options, from sandwiches to go, and also you can find a table to eat and drink some wine. Is in the middle of the farmers market, so is so crazy the idea that you can drink good wine with fancy food surrounded of raw fish, chicken and meat.

French it up at Marcel's

By Peggy D |

This place used to be cheaper but they have a good happy hour still. The steak au poivre amazing but pricey these days. The cheese plates and charcuterie taste fresh from the continent. And they probably are! There is a foodie paradise in their store adjacent. It's not cheap! Pretty much everything is imported from Europe and elsewhere. Fancy Fancy stuff. If I'm looking for that certain weirdo French almond paste or whatever this is where I go. You will be able to find anything your little heart desires though. Great place to buy that certain someone something they can't find back home.

great food and atmosphere

By pourpre |

The chicken rotisserie came with roasted potatoes and a delicious sauce, and the three pieces of chicken were very well prepared. The mussels (moules marinières) was also great, although the number of mussels seemed a bit short for a big appetite. The French burger was also delicious. If the French fries were a bit bigger than these dried out allumettes, it would be perfect. The amount of salt in the food was not little; we spent the rest of the afternoon looking for and drinking water to compensate. Our waiter was super nice. The view on Third street right in the middle of it is fantastic. It is just a lovely and delicious French restaurant. Prices in the range of all other French restaurants, perhaps a bit less than Le Petit Four for example.

Fantastic French shop inside the farmers market!

By Lady Gigglemug |

Saw this sweet little French shop while visiting the Original Farmers Market during the #localadventurechallenge. At the time I wasn’t able to stop in but swore I’d be back and finally had the opportunity yesterday!! I’m so glad I came out bc it was awesome!! From the goodies right up to the staff! Everyone was so friendly and beyond helpful! And they’re doing a great job with the Covid safety measures...all masked up and offering plenty of sanitizer and space to roam - complete with a nice breezy entrance! And the shop - oh gosh it has so many delectable goodies! I hardly knew where to start! Lots of adorable French knickknacks, tablecloths, Christmas ornaments (already!? lol), chocolates, mustards, sauces, hams, snacks, drinks, cooking stuff, wines, glasses - you name it! Not to mention they have a whole cheese case and deli! I nabbed some delicious looking pate, some home decor, and some macarons of course! I also found these great, tiny little bottles of flavored oils for baking/cooking! Apparently you substitute these for vanilla or other extracts/flavorings and only need a few tiny drops! They had so many crazy flavors - I got Mango, Marshmallow, and Cotton Candy! Can’t wait to try them in my cakes this holiday season! How fun! I got 3 flavors of the macarons: lemon, rose, and lavender and they are soooo good! Perfectly crispy on the outside and velvety on the inside with just the right amount of flavor! I’ll definitely be back anytime I’m in the area!

Relaxed...

By FadedFoodie |

Tasty find in the Farmers Market. Modest plates or oysters, tuna carpaccio along with crab & avocado - toped with a glass of chablis. Attentive and polite service.

Nice French style plates

By Mariachi |

The food is good, but we didn’t find it very authentic. The burrata salad was excellent, the onion soup, croque monsieur were nice. The ribeye steak was cooked to order and it came with a sauce had a spicy punch. The creme brulee was very good.

Good Food, Uneven service and fairly expensive

By TravelerKirk |

For Mother's Day I took my wife, our two children and my mother-in-law for lunch at Monsieur Marcel's. It should be noted that this restaurant is in the middle of the LA Farmers Market and our table was in the middle of an aisle where people enjoying the various shops walk. Not a private quiet nook, but was covered and had heaters (we Californians can't handle temperatures below 60! Slow to start with our waitress, but I got a sense that she had too many tables. In a less expensive restaurant that might be okay, but this was pricy so I expected better service. As example, we had to ask 3-4 times just to get our water refilled. First course was onion soup for my wife which was fantastic. Just the right balance of cheese, bread and onion soup. I highly recommend their soup. My children and I shared a cheese and meat array which we enjoyed. We also ordered a bottle of rose, but initially the waitress only brought me a glass. I explained her mistake nd she quickly returned with the bottle and an ice bucket (since she was so overwhelmed she left the original glass of wine on the bill). Then we waited and waited and waited. Fortunately my children are well behaved and so we just relaxed and talked, but it was a long wait. Finally the food arrived. My wife said her fish dish was good, but not exceptional. My son, at 14, wolfed down the hamburger and started on more French bread (not sure teenage boys actually taste the food they eat so I didn't ask him how his food was!) My mother-in-law always eats salmon and she said this was much better than usual. My daughter and I shared a cheese fondue which was okay (I lived in Switzerland for awhile so I am really biased about fondue). We all decided that we wanted dessert, so again had to wait. Creame brulee was very good, pear tart not good and the chocolate mousse was truly French. Getting service at this restaurant required waving down people and hoping that they would get what you wanted. No one showed up and asked if there was anything we needed. There was a floor 'manager' who seemed unable to coordinate anything but exhibited a quite haughty attitude and never offered to help any of her people (to me the blonde sounded and acted Parisian!). Final bill for 5 people, 3 courses and a bottle of wine was over $300.

Outstanding

By HNBISOFF |

Monsieur Marcel’s was simply excellent. The food, service and ambiance was just outstanding. A must on your dining list when in LA.

French food right in Farmer's Market

By Habitat P |

Elegant little pocket right in the Market. Excellent food. Great assortment of cheese and other French specialties.

Great shop for foodies.

By Kevin M |

Really huge range of food stuffs from specialist pasta and olive oils to herbs and spices. Could easily spend a fortune on truffle oil alone!

Authentic French cuisine

By MSH-Sussex |

I suspect French followers of this website might look at this establishment with some disdain, but it’s very close to authentic French cooking. If you need a break from the retail delights of 3rd Avenue and shopping mall, and are looking for something other than a burger, pizza or pasta nearby, then this is a great place to come. The food is really very good; the service is both efficient and friendly; and it’s very good value while watching the shoppers pass by.

Great little french resturant

By B. Darst |

This is a nice alternative to the fast food of the Farmer's Market. Thye have tables with white linens. The food is fresh and authentic. They have Croque Monsieurs and baguette sandwiches. Don't miss this little gem in the Framers market.

Rainy afternoon

By Lucy T |

We were touring LA and stopped at the farmers market for lunch. This place provided cover from the rain, and offered wine. Although it was very expensive for lunch, the gourmet sandwiches they offered were indeed delicious!

Great Happy Hour

By davidh of england |

Lovely wine at great prices, and delicious happy-hour snacks. The server couldn't have been more helpful and friendly, offering a taste f an additional wine that she thought we might like.

ALL THE FRENCH YOU NEED

By Konstantina M |

Monsieur Marcel has EVERYTHING a francophile could desire. I mean teas, jams, cheeses, mustards, cookware, and the restaurant is truffle fries perfection, as well as the classic Croque Monsieur and Steak Frites. I love going to The Grove, mostly because I can get my French fix for the things I love most, and stock up without loading up my suitcase and flying for a 16 hour return flight

Streamlined and updated menu at Farmers Market

By C L |

Pluses - still same corner at Farmers Market, but some of its charm is missing- they've replaced the flowered tablecloths with plain white ones. Also the little corner room is missing the shelves and knick nacks. Looks moderner, but lacks its prior charm and warmth - wine flight and cheeses still there, $20 Areas of improvement -escargot is lacking it's prior flavor - bread basket used to have olive bread Food was okay. I like the location.

Great French cuisine

By Gentry L |

One of the best kept secrets in LA is that there is a superb French restaurant in the Farmers Market. Delicious escargots, perfect French fries, excellent seafood selections, daily specials, and extensive French wine selection. All at a reasonable price. Monsieur Marcel should be on your list

Excellent French bistro food

By chrisbhall |

My wife and I have been here twice and thoroughly enjoyed it both times. For a restaurant at L.A.’s Farmers Market, this is definitely above-average. Dishes we enjoyed have been boeuf Bourguignon. Salad Nico’s, lentil soup, pate en route, and chocolate mousse. Great service, too.

Nice brunch

By Mark S |

A French bistro menu. Food was very good. Baked goods are wonderful. Portions are good. Service is good. It is also a food market, so it is an interesting place.

Enjoy a nice French Dinner in a casual atmosphere!

By CalifSue |

We were at Farmer's Market and expecting to eat at various local vendors. Found this restaurant and offered a nice table. We were in six with two being children and it was welcoming. The Beef Bourguignon was delicious. My husband and I hardly ever order the same and both of us were glad as it was so tasty (served with tagliatelle pasta. Others had the oysters and steak and seemed satisfied. Sitting outside with white tablecloths and nice weather a treat! Service was wonderful too!

Tre Bien!

By GhostRider17959 |

Came here for casual Sunday afternoon, have a glass of wine, some cheese and was pleasantly surprised, Monsieur Marcel's white wine paired with the aged gouda is delicious!

Magic

By Richard T |

Being foodies, my wife and I were enthralled by the range of items at MM. You can purchase your lunch sandwich , cheeses, and a heap of lovely looking food, browse the very good wine collection, flick through some interesting cook books, or simply marvel at the huge selection of food and cooking items available. Employees are friendly and helpful

Good food, noisy location

By MVI |

This place has no indoor seating, so be prepared to deal with lots of noise, wind and dust. Food is good, especially brulee.

Nice experience in the middle of the Promenade

By Foodie Sunny ☀️ |

Perfectly placed in the middle of Third Street Promenade. Nice place to get a quick bite and people watch.

Try the Savoyard Fondue you won't be disappointed!

By FOXYSKI |

Ate here 2 nights running we liked it so much. Try the Savoyard Fondue for 2 to share at $38 it was delicious, also tried the quiche, chocolate fondue, tarte tatin & the creme brûlée. Nice bottles of Prosecco too! Very friendly and helpful staff & also a great location for people watching.

Great selection of cheeses

By Christina T |

We stopped by the store to grab crackers and cheese for a picnic and light bite. Great specialty food store and place to stop for gifts for the foodie in your life. We were able to try some new cheeses and for a reasonable price.

Really Good French Dining

By Paisan P |

This restaurant is located in the Farmers Market which is an open air outdoor market place. On your way to the restaurant you walk thru many little outdoor shops and booth selling speciality foods, fish, cheese, chicken, etc. It's takes will power to walk past all the the areas with the aromas of the food being cooked. There is also a market that has a very good selection of wine and cheeses. We finally made it to the rear of the market where Monsieur Marcel's is located (BTW reservations are a must). We were greater by the hostess and seated promptly. My wife and I shared the special for the day(meal for 2) which was the Dover Sole. You can have the fish with the bone in or our. We elected to have the fish boned and it was done perfectly, no bones. The fish was cooked perfectly and loaded with flavors and arrived at out table, hot. They also have a good selection of wines which were reasonably priced. The food, service and prices were all good. I would have given them a 5 star but for the fact it was very noisy, outside and a bit warm. Would we go back, yes. If you are ok with outside seating this place is a must for great food and shopping

Wonderful food!!!

By LSor3 |

We ordered the fondue, cheese board and beef bourguignon. All delicious! Have been here many times, always great experience. Our waiter was great, friendly and attentive. We'll be back!

This is about the small market not the restaurant which is closed now

By P S |

Dec 31st 2020. They sold only one baguette per person on that day and the bottom was completely burned all the way through. No way to save some and it went to the trash.

French Deli/Restaurant

By darrinvankeulen |

Few places like this in Los Angeles. It’s in the Farmers Market at The Grove. I come here for my Dutch cheese at the deli and snacks. Sometimes eat at the restaurant. Today we had a cheese- meat plate served with bread n crackers. Great filling snack to chill with wine or get a beer from the open bar in the farmers market

Good, but could have been better

By John B |

Great atmosphere, and food. Service wasn't as good as the food. We sat at a table in the corner and felt neglected. The server didn't come over to see if we enjoyed out food, or needed anything once the food was delivered, like was done with the other tables they had.

Great

By Lalamandi0308 |

Great restaurant different menu but food is well prepared good ingredients and service is great Close to farmers market and people watching is a must Highly recommended

Food coma...Lobster ravioli stuffed!

By scarlett_atom |

Was wandering the market and ended up here for lunch. Started with the duck pate. Then had the lobster ravioli as my main. I get lobster ravioli whenever i can - most of the time the stuffing is a pittance. This ravioli was STUFFED... so much so i could not finish my meal (sniff). So good... service was excellent also. Next time I will go there more hungry.

Disappointing

By CasandraTP |

Discovered this restaurant whilst visiting the Original Farmers Market and thought we would perfect to eat there for dinner. It has a fun relaxed vibe about it as you are sitting in the markets itself. We had the chicken liver mousse which was nice and the grilled octopus with beans. This should have been called beans with octopus as it was predominantly just beans. For mains we had steak and fries which has enough fries to feed two people so enough to share and the wild Mexican shrimp which is literally just peeled prawns. We love our French restaurants and this honestly was just average, I wish we had tried another restaurant in the markets.

Delicious

By lotsotripsneedsleep |

A great French bistro with patio seating in the middle of the LA Farmers Market. I had a light lunch of delicious spinach quiche and a simple green salad. The service was wonderful. The shop by the same name has a wonderful array of spices, and chocolates for sale too.

Reminds you of Paris

By Spiritmindbodyheart |

A surprise in Farmer's Market. Lovely petit restaurant, with typical local (French) fare, with a boutique grocery/delicatessen store with wine and fish/meat shop. Good to great wines. The food is "as it should be" says my French friend - properly cooked, savory, and relaxing. We agree, too, with the other reviews seen here. A nice evening à la française. And I always end up buying something in the shop!

Great experience

By Cristina |

One of the precious memories from my last trip cu Los Angeles! I discovered the restaurant talking with an Uber driver and after my first visit, I continued with the second and then the third! 🤭 Staffs is great and you will be sited without reservation to! Waiting for bringing food at the table is incredibly short and variety of wine list is an add! I strongly recommend tartare and fresh oysters!

Exquisite !

By ChickieKoala |

Exquisite and unique food, books, etc, of course with a high price tag, but soooo worth it!. Try the passion fruit macaroons!, and get chocolates made with cocoa from Venezuela! delicious!!!!. We will go back soon for cheese and wine

Good food tastes better when the person eating it is warm

By Marsha G |

Our December 2014 visit to Farmer's Market was on a very cold day, the restaurants there were open air and they told me at this Monsieur Marcel's that I could sit under a propane heater. It was a good choice. Good food and attentive service PLUS I was warm while we ate dinner.

Fine French Market In The Fairfax District

By teresa w |

Nice organic store. If you need herbs or vitamins, fruit drinks, wines, cheeses, imported vegetables, seasonings, condiments, breads, you name it, you can probably find it in this quaint little store at the east end of the Original Farmer's Market. Browse, take your time, but my friend and I were chatting in the aisles and a sales clerk asked us to check out the samples. So, I guess we made her nervous. But I didn't mind. I still had a good time.

Amazing service, lovely food.

By Nicole R |

We had the Italian cheese platter and a bottle of wine. Service was exemplary, a bug flew into one of our glasses of wine and they happily replaced it with a full glass of a more expensive bottle. Really beautiful area to sit in Santa Monica! Would recommend, for a long afternoon

Tres Bon!

By Ltmc01 |

We had dinner tonight at the Farmers Market. The food was tasty. The beet salad was beautiful. The quarters were close, but we made friends with the neighbors.

OK food, Ok service and OK ambiance

By jim e |

This is in the Farm's Market which was once a great place to visit and have lunch. The Farm's Market of yesteryear is gone; no more flowers stalls or cheese and the many specialty food items that were once a hallmark. Marcel's is one of many restaurants that still exits. There was nothing good or bad to say about our dining experience.

Relaxing Open Air Dining

By Syllyt01 |

In the middle of Farmer's Market you can find a great spot to relax and have a satisfying meal. The menu is diverse enough to accomdate different tastes. We had the meat and cheese platter to start us off and liked the fact that we could pick and choose from a wonderful selection. Salads are fresh and my companions felt the steak was incredible. Wine selection is good as was the service. They do accept reservations.

Delightful

By Meg |

We were in Santa Monica and saw this very interesting restaurant on the 3rd Street Promenade. It ended up that our meal was so enjoyable that we can't wait until our next visit to Los Angeles so we can eat here again. We started with a selection of cheeses. Our favorite was Saint Agur. We had chosen three others to try and enjoyed each one. Next, we had their VERY delicious French onion soup. We each selected a different entrée and tried a taste of each one. They were all delicious. For dessert (we were stuffed but couldn't resist) we split the crème brulee and the chocolate fondue - YUMMMMMM! We truly had a delightful evening with extremely attentive service. We highly recommend a visit here and was worth every penny spent. You will not be disappointed!

Very good restaurant in the Grove

By Luiz Alfredo C |

They have a good variety of plates, including the French classics such as Soupe à l’Oignon Gratinée, Salade Nicoise and Steak Frites, among other options. They offer a good assortment of cheeses from France and Italy and a wide range of wines. It´s a very good options to have lunch or dinner in The Grove.

French Fine in Farmer's Market

By Changjo88 |

We ventured into the Farmer's market food stalls but nothing looked appetizing until we found Monsieur Marcel. As I have not tried fondue in over 35 years, I went for it along with roasted artichokes. Loved it although it is heavy for me in my more healthier diet these days. We enjoyed the cafe atmosphere and found the service to be good and friendly. Do note they close relatively early eventhough The Grove remains open later.

yum!

By sussexgirl83 |

We had lunch here and it was one of the best meals during our 10 day trip to California. I had lamb shank which was beautifully cooked and great quality and my mum had the fish of the day which again was delicious. Food fresh from the market cooked beautifully - and at reasonable prices... you can't go wrong! The staff were also friendly and helpful. Unfortunately I live in England, but if I was closer I'd be back in a shot!

VERY FRENCH. VERY COZY. VERY GOOD.

By TravelAgentDave |

On a rare rainy day in SoCal we stopped in here for a lunch while visiting The Grove. The food was delightful. The service was exceptional. They have very interesting menu offerings. There is a great selection of meats and cheeses with which to build a charcuteri board. I choose the Spanish board with 3 meats and 3 cheeses, accompaniments and bread. My wife, the croque monsieur. There were great looking quiches and salads and other goodies. Split a bottle of fairly priced wine and you have the makings for a great afternoon repast.

Great place to eat lunch and people watch

By Barry B |

Stopped here on a tour of LA and in walking around the farmers market this place caught our eye, as it had table service. Good menu selection, service is a little slow, but especially if you are on a tour you only have a limited amount of time. We had just a main course and drinks and that took just over 45 minutes so we were cutting it fine. However the food is clearly cooked to order and was well presented

Great quality dining and service.

By The2KsAuckland |

Wide choice, good service, lovely ambience despite being in a market setting. Great to have offerings of veggies on the side as I'm not used to this in California. The Brussel sprouts were cooked really well.

Yummy and it has it's own store attached!

By Aricot |

I went there with my husband and daughter and we enjoyed a simple charcuterie and some wine. Simple afternoon snack that perfectly hit the spot. Although it is a bit pricey so make sure this is what you are craving, as it will hit the spot!

nice corner of Farmers Market

By John C |

I have eaten here before. This time after dong the rounds of the Farmers Market at The Grove and then looking at all the wonderful stuff to buy at Marcel's deli my daughter and I ate here at lunchtime. It was a Tuesday not busy.I had mussels with glass of rose.Very tasty. More upmarket than the other eating places at Farmers Market but just nice to sit in a quiet corner with table cloths and good food before charging back into The Grove for more shopping.

Nice!!

By Neilpicu |

Stopped by for a wine / port to people watch. Service great an interesting menu. Worth a visit. Very busy which speaks volumes.

Fun and Yum

By talkcinemama |

I ordered from the breakfast menu and my daughter ordered from the lunch menu - the service was great, and okay ambience; whenever you are in West Hollywood and have time to prowl around the Farmer's Market at The Grove, this is a good place to grab a bite.

Excellent but…

By SPT |

Visited on 30 Aug, Monday early evening. It was an unexpected find and the table settings with linen and wine glasses is what caught our attention. Service from Jean-Francois was impeccable and teamwork was good too. But upon showing interest to dine, we were advised to speak to the hostess. A young lady with untidy hair and All-Stars on and a short top exposing her midriff - nowhere near classy, as the appearance of the restaurant would suggest you should encounter. Our waiter turned that sour entry into something magnificent. At some stage, he was getting more busy later into the evening. This lady has some words with him on the floor, loud enough for the guests to hear. She had negative body language, pointing her finger as you would to a child: “we are not even that busy”, “you’re not getting to your tables”, “don’t talk to me like that”, “I’m literally your manager!” I couldn’t hear his words but certainly could hear hers. I was in the hospitality industry in South Africa before moving to LA, and never in my wildest dreams had I seen anything this disrespectful and unprofessional and appalling! We truly felt bad for him. She doesn’t belong there. Mr Marcel, if you ever read this, please, that lady represents YOUR name….

Good, solid traditional French dishes

By macorzo2016 |

It looks a bit like a cafe in a small french town and the dishes are very typical traditional French fare. The service is courteous although sometimes a bit slow. Since the owners also have a butcher shop, a fish shop , a delicatessen and a wine store all surrounding the restaurant, there is no doubt about the freshness of the ingredients. The shellfish is very nice. The steak frites comes with a delicious mound of shoestring potatoes, perfectly fried and the variety of cheeses is astounding as is the charcuterie. Now that the summer tourists are gone, the place is much less crowded and the noise level is moderate. No Michelin star, certainly, but a good, solid fresh cuisine, without fanfare but savory.

Go for lunch

By samroz |

This is a sit down cafe inside The Original Farmers Market. The service can be slow but the lunch choices are plentiful and very tasty. There is also a take out area inside Monsieur Marcel's market adjacent to the cafe. If you love cure olives this place has a wide assortment at competitive prices (sold by weight) as well as a very nice selection of cheeses and cured meats. As I type this I'm thinking that this would be a great spot to stop off for the making of a picnic which can be shared at one of the empty tables in the market adjacent to the cafe or just a 1/2 mile away at the park adjacent to the Tar Pit/Page Museum and LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art).

Loved the food here.. great little place

By travellerm68 |

we visited the markets on a recommendation from our Hollywood tour driver... there is lots of options at the markets to eat but as a lover of French food we chose here. It was early evening and they had specials on wine at half prices so we had a couple of glasses of wine, they also had a special on oysters so hubby chose these. He said they were very tasty and fresh. I chose to have just a small meal and saw French onion soup which is hard to resist... this was a really great soup, very tasty and a wonderful crust on the top from the toasted cheese... we also had the Foie Gras with Brioche which was again really tasty .. I would certainly recommend eating here..

Fun Shop with Unique Foods & Gifts

This is located at the Farmers Market. It was so much fun to walk through and explore the many different things they had to offer. They had a wide variety of foods and gifts, many unique that we had not seen before. Highly recommend browsing through and picking up something unique and special to surprise your loved ones.

A taste of France

By HHo32655 |

My wife and I lunched at the Santa Monica location on a sunny Thursday. Intimate outdoor tables set for two, ample shading provided by large umbrellas, professional French-speaking waiters, authentic French music, and then the wonderful food! The salad Nicoise, sandwiches, and desserts were well-presented and delicious. Several public parking lots within 1-3 blocks, plus the ever-interesting 3rd Street Promenade. I would give it 5 stars, but my exuberance was tempered by my wife's cooler response to the overall experience. I guess I should not have tried to speak French.

Very nice!

By Cinda10 |

Really enjoyed this place! It is like a market inside the market!!!! Lots of wonderful cooking gadgets and cooking supplies!

Fantastic!!

By zeeshan66 |

We were recommended the grove by another traveler and so glad she did! We enjoyed some amazing food here. The escargot, wine and apps were fantastic!

I wanted this to be a positive review, but...

By bigbasin |

Shopping along the 3rd street promenade in Santa Monica and was looking for a bite to eat before the start of the movie. I didn't want a heavy meal and chose the brunch menu. Basic eggs, bacon and potatoes. Toast doesn't come with the breakfast. Settled in with a quick "organic" orange juice. Order arrived with eggs and potatoes. When I looked up and asked where the bacon was, it seemed like I was asking for Romulan Kali-fal. The staff person checked with the waitress, who said, yes, bacon was suppose to be included. A minute or so later, a plate of four strips of bacon quietly arrived, two of which were mostly fat.

Meat and Cheese Galore

By scottcmorrison |

If you're looking for a place for a meat and cheese platter this is a great stop. Many different meats and cheeses to select and pair together. The menu allows you to choose your selections, or you can go for regional selections. They even have wine pairings if you choose (but only for cheeses). Great find for us in the Farmer's Market.

A really good French bistro and store.

By Berdel B |

Located in the Farmers Market food court, this is a truly French restaurant and grocery. The store is a kick to explore with everything from Opinel Knives to a $800 bottle of balsamic. The restaurant offered truly French dishes that are unique and delicious.

AUTHENTIC AMAZING CUISINE

By HOWARD B |

I lived in NICE for a semester abroad in my 20's. Never have I enjoyed Onion Soup and Salad Nicoise as much as I did for lunch at this restaurant. The fresh bread and butter, the other dishes [enjoyed by our party] and the French vibe made for a first rate and authentic experience. But it is the food that will bring me back. This is the real deal and I will dine there next time. The best meal over 4 days in LA - hands down. If you close your eyes - you might think you were back a la cote!.

Nice spot on the Promenade!

By Jeff S |

Had a steak here tonight and my son the French cheese plate. Both delightful. Good service, nice atmosphere, good bread! Would definitely come again.

Great Setting, OK Food, Wonderful Serice

By Richard A |

Our server Emily L helped to make our early diner more pleasant, and we were happy she was our server. My wife and I were walking around the Farmer's Market and saw Monsieur Marcel, looked at the menu and decided this is where we wanted to eat. We were seated and a very nice table with white table clothes and that in it'self is a plus. They have a wonderful menu for a nosh or a lovely dinner. We shared everything and started with the Chèvre Chaud Salad, which was good. Then we had the Onion Soup which had lots of cheese, and onions, also very good. The Beet Bourguignon was excellent. They had a very nice wine selection too. A nice place to had good food in a interesting atmosphere.

Slice of Paris

Funky Paris Style Bistro at the Santa Monica Pier end of Third Street Promenade. Good food and attentive service.

The Best

By nanandpc |

Went to the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica to wander and have lunch. Decided to eat here, because it reminded us of the cafes in Paris. What a great place! We had a couple of the sandwiches and both of us wound up taking home the leftovers. I had the pesto chicken and would have it again. The service was great. Several of the wait staff are French, so I got to practice my poor French a little. We never felt rushed; leisurely sipped a nice white wine, ate our sandwiches and watched the flora and fauna of Santa Monica walk by. If you are in the Santa Monica area Monsieur Marcel's is a must!!!

Love!

By mjlang1952 |

This place is an oasis in the madness of the Farmer's Market. The food is delicious and the wine selection is the best. Love the Happy Hours every afternoon.

DO NOT COME HERE

By Andrea C |

I don't usually do this but DO NOT COME HERE! We ordered from their today's special and was told 3.5lbs of fish large portion to share for two. When the food arrived I'm starring at a 1/4 lbs fish served on a tiny plate. I asked the server what happened and he's very helpful reviewed with manager. Apparently manager said if we order with he head/bones those counted towards the weight and since requested filet it's smaller. My response was so it's a 3 lbs head?? Server was very polite and kept inquiring for manager. They charged us full price $57 for the 1/4 lbs fish when promised 3.5lbs and gave 10%discount from the $125 tab. Server was great but very disappointed with the "SPECIAL" fish was half cooked, slimes and flavorless. OVERPRICED FOOD GO ELSEWHERE- whisper lounge is behind MK store. Better food quality and REAL SPECIALS with GOOD HAPPY HOUR til 7pm

Amazing Specialty Shop and Bistro

By jgiorgianni |

I can always rely on Monsieur Marcel's to have rare ingredients & hard to find artisanal products, such as fresh Italian truffles or bortarga. They have a lovely patio that is perfect for an afternoon snack with wine for people watching. This is one of my go to spots for lunch and dinner.

In the middle of the farmer's market

By Bernard K |

Maybe they were busy, maybe it was a bad night before. Our server was Cornelius, and he did a good job of making us feel at home and generally taking care of us. No problems there. Now to the food. I ordered the lobster ravioli. It was swimming in a yellow sauce, with barely cooked peas atop. The ravioli was nearly tasteless actually - let's agree to call it subtly flavored - and came to the table so quickly it's like they knew when I was coming. That means to me it was pre-prepared, so I wonder why the peas were not done. My wife's order of the nicoise salad was unremarkable and incomplete. The seared ahi was the result of passing it near a flame, so it was actually raw, and it smelled. Not good for ahi. Neither of us ate that; didn't trust it, and probably has good reason not to. The salad also was supposed to have hard-boiled eggs, and that had to be requested and brought out separately, although with great haste, to their credit. So the entire feeling was that something was off, like the kitchen staff was all in a fog or something. We might go back, but only with caution, and who the hell wants to do that?

Decent restaurant, better shop

By Lynda V |

I've eaten at Monsieur Marcel a few times over the years - it has always been pretty good, but not stupendous. As a result, I usually choose to eat at The Gumbo Pot instead. However, I really like the Monsieur Marcel shop and make sure to visit every time I go to The Original Farmers Market and the Grove. I can always find a ton of stuff to buy and take home for dinner - from yummy cheeses and charcuterie, to wines, to jarred and bottled goods (like jams, oils & vinegars) and much more. The service is very good in the shop - the staff is constantly offering to help you and make recommendations. It is so much fun to browse all that is on offer there. Even if you don't eat there, if you are a foodie, make sure to check out the shop.

GREAT PLACE

By MAYASYD |

This place is unique in how they serve their food. You can get a nice platter with cheese and meat and YOU choose exactly what you want. Felt like I was in France or Montreal where I live. Good glass of wine and great place, what more do you want!

Nice lunch for 6

By Conrad M |

We had a very nice lunch of cheese fondue shared by all. Three of us had asparagus or onion soup. Another had a kale Caesar salad. I had a cold salmon sandwich. The waitress was very nice. Total price including generous tip was $179. Less than a 5 minute wait for a table for 6.

Highly recommend

By minnesotans4 |

We have eaten here twice and each time the food exceeds our expectations. The French onion soup was the best we have ever eaten and that includes our visits to Paris. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the Niçoise salad. The apple tart with ice cream was the perfect ending to a wonderful lunch. Make sure to visit their market.

Great gourmet market

By Reed |

The Monsieur Marcel Gourmet Market is a must visit for us each visit to LA as we walk around the Farmers Market. Love the candies, the unique cooking items, the gourmet food and of course the delicious sandwiches. Everyone who works there is always very helpful and there’s nothing like grabbing a sandwich and eating it outside amongst the hustle bustle of the market.

Real French Bistro Fare

By BlueNWashington |

Monsieur Marcel's is located inside the Hollywood Farmers Market at Fairfax and 3rd Street and we stumbled across the place as we poked into the corners of the market one sunny January day. The menu looked typical for bistro food but we had modes expectations when we say down for lunch. Our skepticism was missed placed--this place is the real deal. We had excellent salads, memorable croque monisieurs, and a first rate mousse for dessert. The wine list was modest but not bad. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Marcel's sits toward the back of the Farmers Market and sprawls across an aisle--it's kind of an open eating place. It was a great and unexpected experience and we would certainly return--probably after the next trip to the LA County Art Museum which is about a five minute drive away.

Nice bistro in the Farmer's Market

By Adinel T |

It's one of the nice places to eat in the Original Farmer's Market, with a decent selection of cheese, wines and food. The omelet was on the bland side, but the bread and cheese compensated.

A lovely little place for a spot of lunch!

By MrandMrsHinMK |

We were on a bus tour around LA and were taken to the farmers market for lunch. After having a good look around we came upon Monsieur Marcel's and liked the look of the (French) menu, so decided to eat there...and we're very glad we did! The food was great (as was the wine!) and the service was very attentive! It's also a super place to watch the world go by! Very good!

Wow

By PapaO759 |

Fun find when off Hop on bus. Beautiful roasted artichokes, escargot. Nice wine selection by glass. Market adjacent with beautiful food.

Almost 5*

By Mick B |

Great food on a characteristic market. We took the steak tartare and the mussels. Both very well executed only remark is the mussels should have been steamed more instead of cooked the bottom ones where little mushy. Less water and wine would have been the trip for the perfect result!

Great lunch/brunch spot on S La Brea St.

By Ken B |

Love lunch here after yoga. Outdoor tables on S La Brea and and an indoor cafe which is at the rear of a kitchen/serving ware store. A tremendously large menu filled with salads, unusual sandwiches on baguettes, Mexican items and French cafe items. It works!

Fondue to die for (you could).

By LeeTom547 |

Best Fondue in town. Odd seating but good service. Never had a bad meal here. Salads are great. Cheese and wine make a great shopping break.

Wonderful

By 901jefferym |

What a pleasant afternoon spot for a late lunch. The ambience is very nice and the music adds the magic. The sandwiches generous in size and enough for two, even if hungry.

Happily return

By LoveToTravel |

Food was very good, although not an inside restaurant, it still had a nice appeal. Not to loud, Staff was friendly. Food arrived exactly as ordered and not huge portions as we typically get in the US so I did have room for chocolate moose.

Wonderful French Bistro

By Debby S |

Enjoyed a lovely meal here on a recent visit to LA with family & friends. The food was fresh & the portions were generous. Loved the outdoor seating & the whole ambience of dining here within the Farmer's Market. Our wait staff was very polite. This place was actually recommended to us by an Uber driver. We would definitely come back.

Delicious Fondue!

By Angela L |

Absolutely delicious fondue and desserts! Service was fabulous and the atmosphere very romantic with love music. Loved the experience!

Great service. Convenient location.

By J B |

I was surprised to see how this little restaurant was able to withstand the never ending flow of people at The Grove for years. However, it feels like you are in a different world once inside. Ensconced in a corner, enjoying traditional French bistrot meals. GREAT staff.

Good French Restaurant, Very Limited Dinner Hours

By robbyg346 |

Overall had a good meal at Monsieur Marcel's - service was very good & food was good. Because of the location inside the Farmer's Market where most shops are closed in the evening it's a bit weird for dinner as most of the area is closed and quiet, which is why the dinner hours are only until 7 or 8pm. Because it's quiet no need to make a reservation ahead. The French onion soup was honestly just average, the beef bourguignon was very good though. They validate parking for the first hour or so at the Farmer's Market parking lot.

Hidden Gem inside a Farmer's Market!

By Wilma R |

We found this place by pure coincidence and were so happy we did! Coming back in a double decker trip from Santa Monica Pier, we were tired and exhausted and decided to get off at the The Grove to grab something to eat. We entered the Farmer's Market area and this place looked good so we gave it a try. My son wanted a cheese and meat plate but could not make up his mind so the Chef came out, made some recommendations and told him he would make a special selection for him. I had some fish with risotto. Everything was amazing, including the french baguette that we could not get enough of. The waitress was super friendly and extremely attentive. We noticed some locals in suits coming in for lunch; they know this place. Would go back in a second the next time I visit LA.

More than perfect

By Moi-même |

We were very well received, we were very well served in the middle of the Farmers Market. Very good food and a good little French shop from Monsieur Marcel right next to the restaurant. Honestly perfect

Very slow service

By J V |

Food was good enough, but it took 45 minutes for use to get our food. Several couples came in after us and left before we had our food. All we got was an "I'm sorry it took so long", no other compensation (free dessert or discount). With so many other places, I'd skip this one.

Great Customer Service...Except for the Cashier

By bizlor1 |

I had a wonderful experience at Monsieur Marcel's that ended horribly. They have very kind and knowledgeable staff to help you with the wonderful gourmet products they offer. The prices were very reasonable. I even found an olive oil from Greece that was given to me as a gift. They have a very good wine, balsamic vinegar, cheese, and marmalade selection. You can taste so many of the products. Unfortunately while paying for my items, I informed the cashier that I was to receive a discount due to a tour of the store I had just completed. After she acknowledged that she understood and would process the discount, she rang up my items. I paid and just on a whim asked if the discount was applied. Sighed and said she forgot. When asked what she was going to do to rectify her mistake, she scowled and let me know that she was not about to reprocess my items to get my discount. The line was getting longer and I was getting no where with her. She made a great experience such a low.

Great service

First time visitor to LA, headed to farmers market on a recommendation. I was looking for a nice olive oil as a gift for my hosts. On entering, I was immediately greeted by Diana who arranged tastings of a great number of local and imported olive oils. She spoke to these confidently and knowledgeably without once being condescending (though in this case it would have been justified!). Some of the best retail service I've encountered. Thanks team!

Wonderful

Other then getting a bad start with the host the food, experience, dining atmosphere, and location were outstanding! I loved the uniqueness of this restaurant and the openness. The menu was delicious and affordable. They also have an open bar with a fresh market. This was my first French restaurant I ate at and it made a great first impression.

A Gem Inside Farmers Market

Extremely delicious cuisine with a simple ambience, nothing fancy. Should definitely try, every plate we tried was espectacular. We liked it so much that we had to go back for a second time during sour short 4 day vacation.

You wont be disappointed

We had been travelling for 16 hours and hadn't eaten for quite a while so all we wanted was something simple and good. We had instead, something simple and excellent. The best gazpacho ever, and brilliant tuna tartare and tuna nicoise. Service was impeccable and they detected we were too tired to be great guests, but were attentive without being fussy. Loved being able to sit and watch the interesting people go by too.

Fresh Delicious France in the Farmer's Market

By eboosler |

This wonderful little French restaurant has slowly expanded into a fresh fish market, a happening bar, a gift shop full of the coolest homewares and cooking ingredients, and an even more delicious and wonderful larger restaurant. The fresh seafood, right out of their fresh market cases, is unmatched. Delicious fresh ingredients, wonderful tastes and flavors, incredible service even in the midst of the bustling Farmer's Market and a full and lively patio restaurant. Excellent staff, fun location and great food. And when you're done, explore the Farmer's Market or walk on over to a movie at the connected Grove.

Meh......

To begin, this review is about the food and not the wait staff. Our server did a fine job considering it was Saturday night and relatively busy. On to the locale and the food. Meh sums it up. The restaurant itself is nothing special. The tables are too close to maneuver through to get to, and there was a chemical smell that could have upset my experience until it finally dissipated. I ordered the Scottish Salmon and Risotto because how can you ruin salmon?? The salmon was bland, and the risotto was non-existent having been replaced by a bland squash something. Do I recommend eating here? Not really. I am sure there are better choices in the Farmer's Market.
