Went here for a quick drink while waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant. I've always wanted to stop in, but never had before. It was around 7 PM on Saturday, and we were pretty much the only 6 people in the bar. There may have been someone playing pool in the back. Lots of cool old stuff on the walls.....photos, lifesavers, boats, etc.... 2 old telephone booths I'd like to see how it is when it gets crowded later on at night. Friendly staff. They put on a college basketball game for me. We had some beers and some scotch. No food

If you’re staying in Brooklyn and want to get a neighborhood vibe, stop by Monteros Bar and Grill for a drink. Our bartender, Katty was fun and gave us great ideas for sightseeing. If you’re feeling homesick for you’re favorite “back home dive”, this is the place!

Have been here a few times over the past couple of years and I always come in for an hour or so, and end up staying at least four! The draw? Some of the best singers in Brooklyn and the surrounding area come in on Friday night to give their vocal chords a great workout - - in front of an audience that appreciates talent! I always go away blown away by the quality of the talent on hand - - and the repertoire which covers the gamut. The friendly staff are all professional level singers, too, I have learned to my surprise, starting with Amethyst, the Karaoke hostess who can belt them out with the best of them, to the bartender, whose Broadway-ready rendition of "And I'm Telling You" (Dream Girls) brought the house down and left everyone awe struck with its power and vocal acrobatics. It is a very unpretentious crowd the likes to sing in an unpretentious bar where a good time is had by all.

Super great vibe that has a nautical feel and friendly people. Perfect for your local bar with a chill vibe.

This was a long shoreman bar, but now that there arent many long shoreman to come, it gets a variety of patrons. There is a good chance that you will have a memorable conversation at the bar. It is a great old school Brooklyn establishment.

If you are roaming through Brooklyn Heights or Cobble Hill or, hanging in Brooklyn Bridge Park, you must stop in to one of the oldest bars around in Brooklyn, Montero's. It an old institution - dates back more than 70 years and while you're sipping on a beer, if the owner Pepe Montero is there, he'll walk you though all of the elements in the bar. If you're there on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night, sing your heart out with some karaoke. It was a really good time there. It's not your Manhattan cocktail bar, but a dive that is fun and unpretentious.

Montero's Bar and Grill is a bit of a misnomer. To the best of my knowledge the only food ever served in there was potato chips and cheese doodles, and I think that was a special occassion. But what it is is an old time waterfront bar where a beer and a shot is still the drink of choice. Montero's is a veritable museum of old sea-faring related memorabilia. Up untill her death a couple of years ago Pilar, the owner held court in her corner and she is sorely missed. But the bar remains in the family and the traditions carry on. Some of the customers will offer tell you about the stuff on the walls and one of the bartenders will become the future owner (it stays in the family). Traditions carry on. Well, they do have karoke some nights. That isn't very traditional. And the parrot died many years ago. And there are no longer many fights in there. All-in-all a great bar, but don't order anything fancy.

Located near what was once the old Brooklyn docks, now a grandiose park, this bar served longshoremen and the rough maritime industry in it's prime. The joint has great history and reasonable beer prices, but reach deep into your pocket if you choose to drink premium spirits. The jukebox is well stocked and there is a serviceable pool table in the back. If you go, check out the incredible model steam engine tucked in the back on the right. The bartender can fill you in on its history.
