Enjoyable selection of beers, not overly enamored with American IPA like most bars in Portland. We love the cask ales option as well as the Czech Pilsner's available on draft. Recently discovered their Steak and Mushroom Pie. Probably the best outside Edinburgh we've had.

We went here twice during our stay in Portland. The first time we went we had some simple and inexpensive pub grub that was super tasty and filling. The next time we went during live music that was on during the week. There was a great, lively and laid back atmosphere there that we found in no other bar in Portland during our stay. Would recommend to anybody coming to Portland.

I've been going here for over 12 years and it never disappoints. Try the cider on tap and a pasty, the food is cooked to order so it takes a little longer than many places, but it's worth the wait :)

True Brit pub and very down to earth

Upton entry, you instantly get a feel of a British Pub. Albeit, kinda Homespun 'Build to look' like a British Pub feel. It doesn't have the age or craftmanship of British Pub, but it's not England. So, the modern looking bar with home depot spindles and glued on molding may not resemble the British wood crafters of the days of old... Leaving that behind.... The place is cozy and does have nice pub like atmosphere. More inviting and cleaner than say the Local Horse Brass Pub... I feel like I need a tetanus shot when I leave. ;-) The beer list is a nice balance of Imports and local stuff. The Whiskey and Booze list is equally good. For all my friends who know British pubs in England, you may be disappointed to know the bathrooms are clean! Hahaha The Food was a major Star! Far "FAR" better than other local British Pub food! Pasty was not only huge, but extremely tasty. The Curry Fries, great. The Cottage Pie came pipping hot... Dense, rich and satisfying. This is a definite stop if you're craving British Pub Food... If they had a Curry Dish, it would be complete...

Had dinner with coworker and retired coworker as he lives close by. Nice quiet interior BUT not well lit from the outside as we drove by 3 times before we saw the pub. Two of us had the steak and mushroom pie which had lite flaky top and pretty darn good insides! Fish and chips looked authentic as the chips were chips and not fries. Beer choices were huge and Moscow Mule was only $7.00!

I stopped by here after a meeting, on the way back to the airport. I grabbed a seat at the bar, which was mostly full already just after opening. They have a lot more beers on tap than I expected, but I went for an old "stand by" Guinness & a pie. I figured i ate enough pie & mash to know what good and what is not. Right iff the bat, I knew this pub was a winner. The bartender poured my Guinness perfectly!! A+ I ordered a Welsh rarebit to start. It came out a little too toasty... But what I could eat was pretty good. ( At least I still had my guinness) I then ordered a steak & mushroom pie.... I was surprised that it came with a salad and not mashed... But OK, i'll try. The pie was outstanding! The salad was salad.... IF my pie came traditionally.... with mashed & peas, this would have been a 5, in-spite of the over toasted rarebit. The service was great, even with the amount of customers and only 1 bartender. And the customers...!!! I sat next to a group of local regulars, from Scotland originally by their accents, who made me feel welcome and like I belonged there. A great place for a perfectly poured Guinness and some real tasty food.

The Moon and Sixpence had good reviews, so we tried it for lunch today. The tables and chairs were all higgledy piggledy, and we weren't sure where to sit. We stood there for about three minutes, none of the staff acknowledged us - so we left. Boo!

very typical local pub. Lots of locals. They had no local brews... kind of odd. Food was good - typical pub fare. Very good service

The dart boards are plenty. On a busy night.... share. The food is good and the beers are perfect. (especially if you like Guinness) The parking is around the neighborhood, but there is plenty of free parking. In the summer the side yard is nice... except when it's 100°.... so stay closer to the bar.

Meat pie was great! Was there with an englishman and he approved as well! Pints a pound the world round - except the UK and a few other places like this pub where they are 20 oz.

I've been dining here for over 17 years. The food is great, friendly service, and on occasion they have live music on the weekends. (That may have been a few years back now) When you open the menu you'll find one page of food and several pages of adult beverages. It's a well-rounded selection, check it out. Cheers!

This is a comfortable neighborhood tavern/pub with an excellent beer selection, good food and a welcoming crowd. The music was good, too, on one of the nights I stopped in there.

I dined recently at this British bar and it was not good. The place is charm-free and dirty. There was a hair on the table and in my salad. Plus, the restaurant has a gnat problem. I would highly not recommend.

Great pub atmosphere including three dart areas. Outside seating for warmer days or not so warm! Excellent choice of beer on tap including beers from UK. I enjoyed fish and chips - the best I have had in a long time. The pub is large enough not to feel too crowded. Popular with the 20 - 30 somethings, families and baby boomers alike.

Absolutely top-notch service and very very reasonable prices. Fun, eclectic atmosphere that kept us far longer than planned. Sit at bar and if you have the good fortune of having Katie serve you settle in

Visited here Saturday, September 24, 2016 around 5 p.m. Somewhat akin to a British Pub with some standard British Pub food, meat pies, fish and chips etc. Fish portions huge and fish and chips entree quite good. Prices reasonable. Staff brings ketchup, malt and vinegar and tartar sauce to table for you to pick and choose at your leisure. Good selection of British beers and whiskeys with some American and other choices to round out the mix. Small selection of white and red wines which can be purchased by the glass or the bottle. Don't go here if you are in a hurry since atmosphere very laid back. Staff friendly and pub frequented by many regulars, mostly young people in their mid to late 20's, at least on my first visit. Outdoor (rear) seating area available but I did't view. Only complaint was window sills dirty and look like hadn't been cleaned in a while. However, rest of seating area inside seemed clean. Liked the ambience and food enough that my wife and I are planning a return visit. Be warned, we have walked by this place sometimes around 6 p.m. or so and have noticed it can get quite busy.

We were looking for an Irish pub after hiking the falls near Multinomah, this had good ratings even though not Irish, so we stopped in. The waitess was awesome going over tap list which was not same as menu and Porter was excellent as was the Stout. She also gave her opinion on the food and was very helpful. Then came the food wow! I read the menu, then we received it, and it was as good as you hope it will be when you read menu. Steak n Mushroom pie very flaky crust, Sausage rolls with hot mustard yum, Yes it is one of those places where chairs may be pulled from different tables to crowd friends around one, but I like a place that has character. No one answers you at door just go in sit we waited for a booth to be cleaned not overstaffed but it was early dinner. Also ask for taste of beer you are not sure of. They are more than happy to share their wonderful beers with you.

This is a great, old school pub. Good service and good drinks, can't go wrong here. Lots of old wood on the bar and a some dart boards in the back gives this place a great feel. Easy place to just hang out and relax. Will come back again when I am in this area of town. You should come by and check it out.

I'm pretty sure I've been into this same pub in England. Yup, I think it was in Oxfordshire. In any event, the Moon and Sixpence is the quintessential English pub - complete with wood paneling, poor lighting and nicked table tops and chairs. Everything about the pub screams authentic. Well, everything except the wide assortment of Pacific Northwest beers on tap - and, uh . . . the fact that the beer you order at the Moon is always cold (vs. the "real" English pub experience in the U.K. where every beer seems to be just barely above room temperature. I really like this place and only wish it was closer to our neck of the woods. Alas, I guess I will have to make the occasional pilgrimage to the Hollywood District for some delicious English pub food and Fort George beer on tap.

I must admit, I always get the Fish and Chips here. I don't know how their other food is, but the fish and chips rock. Usually a half-order (two pieces) is enough for me, thanks to the pile of delicious french fries used as a foundation. I used to be a fry cook, so I can tell they go to a lot of trouble to make sure their frier grease is clean.

The minute you walk in you realize you are in a public house 😁.. surprising live by so close we never made it. With that said friendly staff and a great atmosphere.

Very nice neighborhood British style Pub. Reminds me of many Pubs I have been to in England overs the years. They have quite a few beers on tap and many more in bottles/cans. I tried one of the specials, a Boneyard, and it was very good. While they don't advertise as a family friendly place, young kids are welcome. The staff is very friendly. We had traditional pub food, Cornish Pasty, Fish & Chips, Ploughman Platter plus an order of chips for the young granddaughter. Very nice place. Everything is cooked when you order so expect a little longer then normal for your food.

This one of many bars I stopped in with my friend while I was in Portland. Overall, not bad. Decent selection of tap beer. Didn't see the prices on any of menus. Each craft ran me $5, which is decent. PBR was also on tap, which I'm sure would have been $4 or under. Not a bank buster, though definitely not a place one could spend all night at on a strict budget. Happy Hour may seriously be there only drink special (if it is even one); went in on a weekday evening and was told everything was regular price. The bartender was kinda lousy. She looked annoyed annoyed look when I asked about the specials and prices, even though I told her I opened the statement with "hello, first time in here..." When I went up for the second beer, lingered at the bar for about 2 minutes while she rapped up conversation with someone. Nothing memorable about the other staff; I can't even recall anyone busing our table. Relaxing and comfy atmosphere. All seating is wooden; there was a book shelf; and everything was space out pretty well. After walking 8 miles around the river and traveling by plane beforehand, it was a great last stop for the night. Our group did not have food, so I cannot comment on it. It's not on my list of places to revisit if I ever come back to Portland: $12 for two beers (tip included) and 'eh'-worthy service, not really worth it. But, not horrible- if I'm meeting friends there again, I won't put up a fuss about it.

Most excellent fish and chips, roasted chicken. Bangers and mash at next table looked great. Questioned if we had tasted beers we ordered before and brought sample without asking. Local vibe. Great place to go.

I have been coming to Moon and Sixpence for years now and always love it. The food and beer selection is really good (British pub food) and it has both indoor and outdoor seating. It also allows dogs outside so that is nice too. Sometimes the service can be slow and on occasion there are large parties taking up a lot of the space but it is always worth the wait. It is also kid friendly until nine. I come with my daughter often and we always feel welcome.

My first visit to Portland and I took friends. What a way to make an impression. Everyone loved the ambience and the food was authentic and totally to die for. I went for Fish and chips ( Im a Kiwi so that was a must have) an my friends ordered other items. The pasty was a huge hit and was shared around the table. We shared the Bread pudding. It was delicious. Could have had a tad more bite to the sauce, but still gave me visions on home. This is all good Pub food. The service was excellent and we never had to call someone over, they were in attendance at all times. Take your friends for a unique dining experience. Next visit to portland I will definitely go back..

English--that should give you enough info.

Came on a busy Friday late afternoon. The place was pretty packed, and yet we were served fairly quickly. Servers were working their butts off! Didn't pay much attention to the pricing, but we got two mixed drinks and an appetizer for 25 dollars, which these days in Portland doesn't seem bad. Ambiance is nothing to write home about. Haven't been here in years, and the service this time around is better than I have ever gotten at this location.

I come here as often as possible. Great beer, awesome fish n'chips, and great ambiance. Perfect for an old man like me to sit back reminisce in the good ol' days.

I saw this place advertised on the movie screen of the Hollywood Theater and I felt like going to a pub after the film to relax. The place is very much like a British style pub. Cozy and pleasant. With a dart area attracting the dart fanatics. A trio of musicians off in a corning playing what sounded like Irish style folk music. And people sitting off in the various other areas of the place enjoying the tranquil atmosphere and pleasant vibe. A very nice mellow place to relax and have a point or two and feel like you are back in the United Kingdom. Been to many a pub when I lived in the UK. And this made me thoughts drift back to those good ole days.

We were visiting in Portland when we stumbled upon the Moon and Sixpence completely by chance while looking for a place to wait for a friend who lives locally to join us. It has the plainest exterior, and I didn't even see a sign with its name--I had to ask the woman who served us. When we opened the door to come inside, what a treat! A traditional quiet, dim pub, with no noticeable TV, with a friendly hum of conversations here and there, a little louder in the darts throwing area. Admittedly, it was only 6PM, and who knows if TVs turn on later in the evening or music starts blasting from speakers--we can't attest to that. However, if you'd like to go somewhere in the early evening that serves a fine array of draft beers, with a full bar, a lovely, accommodating staff, and a nice pub menu, take yourself to the Moon and Sixpence on a quiet side street in Portland in the Hollywood neighborhood.

As someone raised on British cuisine, I know that the stereotype of British food leaving much to be desired is absolutely wrong! The Moon and Sixpence is where I go to treat myself to the comfort of good British food. The chips are done right, and served with malt vinegar and HP Sauce. My favorite is the shepherd's pie, served with a traditional salad. The sausage rolls and Welsh rarebit are fantastic, too. My friend swears by the bangers and mash. My one word of warning- stay clear of the Cornish Pasty. It's done with a puff pastry, and, well, that's just not right. Also, there is an absolutely fantastic selection of imported beers, both draught and bottled. And a couple of dart boards.... what more can you ask for?

I have always enjoyed this place. Food is cooked when you order, so don't expect fast food. I've been in here many different times. Sometimes I like to come in, get a pint, and sit down with some reading or writing and just absorb the atmosphere. Tons of beer on tap, traditional British pub fare food, just a lot of fun. I have yet to check out music yet, but I intend to soon.
Pub atmosphere, great food and service
The night I visited this place it was surprisingly busy, especially for a weeknight, but the food and service were outstanding. My table of 3.5 (one person arrived late) ordered a ton of food, including bangers and mash, and it was all super tasty and relatively quick, even for being busy. The server was more than accommodating, especially considering we moved from a table to a booth shortly after ordering. I've heard rumor this place sometimes has European-formula Guiness on tap...I've yet to discover if it's true, but if it is, I will very likely be living here.
