Wonderful dinner at the Moonshine! Hope was a wonderful server. Had the Bourbon slush and it was delicious. Also try the Burnt End Brisket Quesadillas. Sat outside at the patio … just wonderful!

It was close to lunchtime and my wife was hungry, and needed food so behold nearby was Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill. We could have walked into the Fairmont Austin or the Iron Works Barbecue but we have dined there numerous times and wanted to try something different. Moonshine has great curb appeal being an old house and inside found the interior nicely designed where different rooms all around. There was even a small bar. Our server was very nice and brought us a huge bucket of popcorn and water in glass jar containers. It was actually good, but did not want to fill up with popcorn where might effect enjoying whatever I ordered off the menu. I guess you could just come here sit at the bar and have drinks and have popcorn. But I wanted to test the chef and ordered the Backyard Chicken Sandwich and my wife order the Chicken Fried Steak. The place was very friendly had a nice southern ambiance to it. Our plates arrived and my chicken sandwich looked very presentable with it cut in half with a nice side of house fries. My wife’s chicken fried steak was huge where could feed two people. Even the guy sitting next to me marveled at it and ordered his own. Luckily he was a big guy. The sandwich tasted very good where the bread was a bit toasted, and nice flavor of the chicken. The fries were crispy and tasty. Even though I did make a dent in the popcorn bucket I was still able to finish off my lunch. However my wife lost from eating the whole chicken fried steak where I grabbed my fork to give it a taste. I normally do not eat red meat but tasted a tiny of it and was delightful. The breading and gravy was what I devoured the most. But the popcorn caught up with me and I was full from scavenging off my wife’s plate. When we left there was a line of people to dine here where its first come first server, no reservations. We walked here but they do have a parking valet in front. It was not the right time to test the bartender but heard they have good drinks here too, and will need ti return to give it a try too.

Between reading multiple reviews and seeing the crowded dining room I had high expectations. I really wanted this to be a fantastic meal but it just wasn’t. I was underwhelmed by the flavor, Quality, and the creativeness Of the dishes. Maybe it was just an off night, but I can’t recommend this to anyone

Great staff and good food - some super interesting things on the menu. I highly recommend trying the shrimp corn dogs as they are truly unique. The food is heavy - southern cooking - so we split an entree and they put it on two plates which I always think is so hospitable. The interior is beyond charming - both historic and well appointed

We found this place as it was a walk from our hotel and allowed dogs to eat on the patio. We had exceptional service (for us and our pup!). The food was outstanding. My boyfriend who is in general a picky eater, loved the venison Salisbury steak and I got the horseradish crusted salmon. Everything was so good. The brussel sprouts were the best I have ever had. The atmosphere was really great and everyone we came in contact with was friendly and helpful. I will return when I am back in Austin.

We stumbled upon this restaurant and thought that it appeared interesting. We enjoyed an outstanding dinner, potions are great size and could barely finish out dinner, which we regret not being able to sample the desserts! Highly recommend this great gem!

CHICKEN FRIED STEAK BAD, served by indifferent young non-Texans. Forced to pay high parking, seated at back table full of young "Yankees" talking about great eastern Cities are, and how bad Texas is as state. Server a drunk new arrival female who never ate a Chicken Fried in her life. Next time, the best Chicken Fried Steak in Texas wont be found in Austin, but a smaller place populated by REAL Texas-borns who know what that food is and "how its done!"

This is a must go to place while you are visiting Austin. We called to see if reservations were acceptable and told that it is first come first serve only. Upon arrival, we were told it would be a 45 minute wait, but one of the bartenders/waiters were able to fit us in at a table in a smaller bar area downstairs. Atmosphere was nice. They cater for events that were going on in another portion of the restaurant. Food was excellent. Service was very good. My son and I had the Chicken Fried Steak and my husband had the pork chops. We all enjoyed the chips and cheese sauce as an appetizer and I went for dessert which was a decadent fudge brownie mixture. Would definitely recommend.

Before heading to Austin on a business trip asked a local for dinner recommendations. This was one of the places they gave. It did not disappoint, from appetizers to desserts we were completely satisfied. Our tag-team servers were both personable and knowledgeable and you could tell they cared about their patrons. If I am ever in Austin again I will be back.

Trust your waiter. He recommended our entrees and drinks, and yep, he was spot on. He said he ended up working at Moonshine after sampling the bourbon slushy, and of course, we had to try it. Our table was smitten. Very nice wine list (shout out to the Alberino!) Steak and eggs---delicious, and the ribs were excellent. Appreciated the popcorn, as well as substitutions. Even though it's a wait to be seated, the staff allows you to enjoy a leisurely brunch. And it was definitely appreciated!

No complaints. Food was good as well as good service. Would go again if I ever venture to Austin, which is doubtful! That place is too stressful for us older folks!

Reservations not accepted but well worth waiting to eat .Just relax at the bar and enjoy a delicious drink .We we’re told 30 minutes seated in 15 .Decided to try something a little different Asked waitress for advice and so happy we listened to her .When I was dubious about grits she brought me out a sample .They were fantastic I had fried green tomatoes followed by catfish with grits Both were really good.Service is excellent and food reasonably priced . I will definitely be back

Delicious!!!! Loved this place for lunch. Service was excelllent and the food was super tasty. Highly recommend!

We had the very best dinner here. The building is fantastic and the atmosphere is fantastic. Allison was our waitress and she was friendly and helpful. We loved it so much, we bought the tee shirt!

If you’re just wanting a boozy brunch and don’t really care about the food then this place is a good option. The moonshine shots with the peaches are🔥 but other than that, the food and service is below par. The steak and eggs used to be sooo good! But the last few times we’ve been the steak has came cold, not cooked to our requested medium rare, and was chewy. The plate presentation was messy and side of butter hard as a rock. Our waitress was on her phone visibly multiple times while our tea glass was empty. Finally, the cinnamon roll we order looked so unappetizing, although the taste was okay. They obviously just slapped on the icing with a giant spoon, (see picture), instead of drizzling it on. Honestly, only the popcorn and drinks are good. Won’t be back unfortunately… 😕

Great food all around. The Corndog Shrimp sounded weird, but it was surprisingly good. Fried green tomatoes were great as well. Good atmosphere, decent pricing, and the service was also very good.

We walked past Moonshine on a couple of trips from our hotel before we finally tried it. Such good food and service! The horseradish crusted salmon was one of my all-time favorite salmon dishes.

Good food and nice atmosphere. We did have to wait significantly longer than we were told but our waiter was very personable and the food came out quickly. We had a group so ended up with a variety of dishes...nobody brave enough to order the chicken fried after we saw it at the next table...it's huge! The frozen peanut butter pie alone is worth the visit! Decent bourbon menu as well! Would visit again.

We sat at the bar for a drink and lunch. We were too full to have dessert, but we saw some go by, and we will plan for dessert next time we are back.

Not a fan. Was looking for some good, hearty, authentic Southern food, and Moonshine ain't it. I grew up in the South, and what the kitchen does to green beans here is nothing short of an abomination. Crunchy, frozen, fancy style beans with sliced onions? Get out of here with that nonsense! My pimento cheese burger didn't fare much better. The small and thin beef patty also tasted frozen, and the cheese wasn't high quality. The fried shrimp appetizer was overloaded with a too-thick batter. The fries were good, but it's not that hard to dump frozen potatoes into a fryer. I should've known to run when our server brought a complimentary tray of popcorn to our table and it was stale, old, and burned. See all of my photos of the food because you'll see how lackluster everything was. The only reason I'm giving this place two stars instead of one is that the bourbon flights are quite nice and fun. If you come here, for the love of all things Southern, do NOT order the mediocre food. Just come here for drinks. Not coming back to this place.

Stopped in for cocktails…ended up eating. All staff really friendly, accommodating, and efficient. Moonshine has a variety of seating choices inside & out - we sat on the outside rear patio, which has the benefit of being outside, covered, but without being actually on the street. Great menu, nice variety - steak cooked perfect, but it was the chicken & waffle combo that was A-MAZ-ING!! Plus highly recommend the Bourbon Slush and Blind Mule cocktails. Moonshine was perfect for us to wile away an afternoon. Too marks.

We popped in for a cocktail and appetizer on the patio, going with the garlic bulbs. We were surprised at the size of the serving (all the plates we saw go out were large and honestly for the price I was shocked as it wasn't expensive!). The crostini, roasted garlic with balsamic and peppers were yummy. I would recommend asking for a little extra balsamic on the side if you like it that way as for me there wasn't quite enough drizzle but I love balsamic. Our server was very attentive. Would definitely go again when we visit Austin.

Very nice restaurant. Great atmosphere and history. We ordered appetizers but they never came. The server just showed up with our entrees. The food was really good. The corn flake crusted chicken salad was delicious. We tried the bread pudding and banana pudding for dessert which were both great. When we left there was a long line so prepare to wait. They have drinks while you wait.

We had a group of 8 for dinner on the patio at the Moonshine Grill. It's hot in Texas these days, but we had a shady table and big fans cooling us off. The appetizers were all great, especially the fried green tomatoes. My grilled rainbow trout was delicious. We all appreciated the friendly service too.

We loved this placer! Tons of unique local "beverages" with great food options. In a great area of the city and popular. Go early, worth the visit.

Absolutely loved the food! No complaints of any kind. We had the chicken fried steak (enough for 3 people) steak and chicken and waffles. The gravy on the chicken fry was perfect!

The wait was a little long but the staff friendlyness helped l. The food was great by flavor and huge portions. The atmosphere was loud but fun! I will be back.

Not great. Told we couldn’t reserve a table . But it appeared that others could. Food not great ( probably chose poorly )chicken very dry . Had also to send back my order as despite asking for cheese on the side, cheese all over salad (I can’t eat cheese).

An Austin-native recommended I check the place out for brunch. I didn’t make it until evening. I made a meal of appetizers including the fried green tomatoes with smoked shrimp and pimentos. My inner foodie did a somersault with the first bite. Cute little place on the quieter side.

There was a wait for dinner, we noticed that there was four seats at the patio bar which turned out fantastic for us the staff behind the bar where outstanding, talking to us helping with food and drinks choices as well as places to go later in the evening. It was a great atmosphere and the food was wonderful

Visited in late Dec ‘22 with my family with young children around lunch time and were able to get seated immediately. E were hoping for a brunch menu based on what we saw on Yelp but they strictly offer brunch on Sunday’s with limited brunch options on Saturday. The waiter who was extremely nice and personable offered us some off menu options or alterations if we wanted. Kids ordered waffles and corn dogs off the kids menu and adults ordered Hoss hot chicken and the cheeseburger. We also ordered the calamari as an appetizer and they offer complimentary popcorn at the table as well. The popcorn was flavorful and fresh. The calamari was unique as it was strips instead of little circle pieces. I enjoyed that a well and appreciated the unique take. My burger was supposed to be medium temperature and it was well done so it was too dry for my taste and the chicken sandwich was suppose to have sweet potato tots but came with fries. Outside of those two errors the flavors were solid. The kids waffle was good and fluffy s as well. I would frequent again if in the area and wanted a solid lunch spot. Our food came out to $69.29.

We enjoyed sitting on the patio with great cool drinks, delicious food and the misters blasting -- a real hot, fun Texas night!

Great food and the service was wonderful. This is a great option for a quick, casual bite. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for something easy and low key.

Excellent unique options on the buffet. Excellent food. Not the normal buffet options. All yummy. Great server in the small bar. Personable and happy to be taking care of us.

Excellent service, good portions and overall excellent. Only one dish of all those they served us was not excellent (the trout, I think lacked flavor and salt, but I asked for it without bacon), the rest was excellent, the cooking of the salmon was magnificent. My children and wife were satisfied. Honorable mention to waiter Connor E. I don't know English and he went out of his way to help me and even had many kind gestures and we all laughed. Thanks to everyone at the restaurant.

Just happened into this restaurant. We were promptly seated. Waitress was very nice and offered great suggestions. Started with fried green tomatoes, very good. We ordered catfish that was seasoned well and cooked to perfection. We also ordered horseradish salmon. It was cooked well, but not as much horseradish flavor as i hoped. The salmon came with roasted Brussels sprouts that were tasty. We had a bottle of white wine that paired well with our meal. Waitress also gave we us good suggestions for things to do in Austin. Enjoyed our evening on the patio. Highly recommend. They had several options on their menu. We will return.

Loved the food. Really brilliant. Servers are so kind. But this review reflects the terrible experience we all had. A couple came in and began to make out, endlessly, and the woman would pause only to look at us to ensure we could see her. We spoke with the servers (as did the families who were clearly distressed). We were told the manager would come and observe. Not sure what that means. But we along with several families walked out. It was really a shame, we were not in any way listened to. Will never go back.

We had just arrived in Austin and needed a meal. This restaurant was near our hotel. It had great food and great drinks. A very nice and patient waitress as well. We had lots of questions as this was our first meal. I had a grilled broccoli crown which was a whole lot of wow with flavor. Everyone at the table was really pleased. The building is original and the restaurant has a lot of character. I would have gone back here if I had more days.

The female manager with dark hair was insanely rude to me and my family. Mocked my father for asking for a table outside bc he didn’t know he had to specifically select a reservation for outdoors when the restaurant was empty. I was a host for two years and she was the worst person I’ve ever spoken to. I pray management fire he bc she was such a horribly rude woman.

Went here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Breakfast options are really limited. I ended up getting the jalapeno hanger steak. The demi glaze was average. It was a clean place and service was fast.

Nice place, great personell and the food was different compared to what I’m used to. Had the garlic bulbs (don’t expect to hook up with anyone after these) and stone ground grits. Wasn’t hungry so thought I would take something smaller. Got really full so well worth the money.

Great food, drinks and excellent service. We loved the atmosphere. We had an amazing, attentive waiter that offered excellent suggestions.

Have you ever had food so good it pisses you off? That’s what this place did to me. The cathead biscuits appetizer dipped in their honey butter? Stupid good. The corn dog shrimp? Awesome. The chicken and waffles? Now that really pissed me off. Freaking ridiculous. Everything was stupid good. They were pretty packed while we were there and the service was still good. Ben was our server and he was a good guy. I’m not local so I’ll probably never get back there, unfortunately, but I’ll remember those biscuits and the chicken and waffles. BTW we asked why the cathead biscuits are called that. Ben said it’s because they are the size of a cat’s head. I love that, but I have a lot of follow up questions. Ben was busy so I didn’t want to ask him. Maybe someone from the restaurant reads these, so just in case, here are my follow up questions: * This is a domestic house cat, yes? It’s a big biscuit, but not tiger head big. * Did you consider any other animal heads before finalizing on a cat’s head? An otter or owl seem more accurate. But I have to admit I don’t have a good grasp on how big a cat’s head is. Although I guess I do now, thanks to your delicious biscuits. * Do you know that some people may think the cathead biscuit has something to do with catfish? This may deter some people from ordering it. At least that happened for my wife. But we asked, and Ben explained the name, so we ordered it. I guess this could work to your advantage if someone really likes catfish, and wants it in their biscuits, but I would bet the percentage of people not wanting catfish in their biscuits is higher than the percentage of those that would. * Is a catfish called a catfish because it’s the size of a cat? * Did you consider naming any other menu items after cat parts? The corndog shrimp could be called catpaw shrimp. As you can see, I couldn’t get into this with Ben, so any insights you all can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Great service and friendly staff. The food was fantastic, me and my partner shared a few items from the shareables menu, everything was delicious! Very reasonably priced. If it wasn’t our last night in Austin we would have gone back more than once. Highly recommend!

Wonderful experience from making the reservation to getting our car back from valet. All of the staff was overly friendly. They give you popcorn as an appetizer which is fun and different. Waitress recommend the hanger steak and it was delicious! Kids meals were really great too. Homemade Mac and cheese and a cheeseburger with yummy fries. Food came out quickly. They offer valet for $12 which is nice. I’d definitely go back!

We went to Moonshine for lunch after a tour at the nearby visitor’s centre. What a find! It’s a great bar/restaurant with a fab menu and wonderful food. Our server Taylor was so efficient, friendly, attentive and patient with us Brits asking silly questions about the dishes! We also appreciated her recommendations and her genuine interest in our thoughts on what we ordered. I urge EVERYONE to order the Sprouts- just divine. We only ever eat boiled Brussels Sprouts on Xmas Day in the UK, and these crispy/spicy sprouts blew our mind. Who knew?!! 🤣 Thank you Taylor! We hope to visit again one day!

Went here for anniversary dinner. It was very good. From the popcorn appetizer, to the cornbread muffins, to the drinks and entrees it was well worth it and extremely friendly staff.

This was our first time to try the Moonshine bar and grill. We were pleasantly impressed with this place. It’s Austin casual but the food is more on the gourmet side. If whiskey or tequila tasting is your thing this is the place, and the food was fantastic. They have valet parking for 12$ or parking next door for 14$. Happy hour from 4-6pm. We got there about 5:30 and got right in, but when we left there was a line to get in.

Sitting in one of Austin's oldest homes, built in 1852, the beautiful limestone glows with a welcoming light as you enter. Downstairs is a private speakeasy available by reservation that can handle 10 to 15 people. Ask about sitting in the Sunday house for the perfect romantic dinner. Some of Austin's ghost tours start here. By the way, you can order from the full menu at the bar. My Venison Salisbury steak over mashed potatoes was prepared excellently, tender and juicy meat with mushroom reduction gravy. Try the Banana cream pie served in a mason jar, set perfectly with ripened banana and creme whipped so smooth there was not a hint of granular sugar. It crossed the tongue like a smooth rich mouse. It was topped with a homemade butterscotch sauce hinting of that lovely smokey taste of a well prepared butterscotch.

Stumbled upon this establishment when on our way to Rainey Street. Enjoyed a couple cocktails at the classy bar area. Would love to return here for dinner after reading all the reviews.

Fantastic venue only second to their fantastic attentive staff. What a brilliant joint, absolutely great food and if you like a good bourbon or whisky they have a huge selection. Great menu choice too, Do it🥊

We tried this place for dinner based on a recommendation. Overall, food was pretty good but the wait was long. We had the following and our 1-5 ratings were: - 4 - Queso appetiser. Pretty good - 4 - Fried green tomatoes. Not bad, but I have had better in the South. -4- Spare ribs. Good - 5 - celis beer. Excellent. - 4- Peanut butter pie. I am not a peanut butter fan, but my wife is. Overall a decent price, but not worth the long wait to get a table.

Very close to our hotel, this restaurant has a lot of character. It is one of the oldest houses in Austin. Arrived on a Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. it was very busy and rather noisy. We waited around twenty minutes which seemed normal to us. We chose the chicken steak with mac’n cheeze and sweet potato fries. The steak portion is Huge. Quite enough for 2 hungry people. Next time, we'll share! It was very good, very hot and yes I recommend this restaurant.

The Macaroni is the best I've had in my life, the prices of the main entrees are pretty affordable and the service is fantastic. The popcorn is appreciated and the overall feel of the place is very welcoming, the waiting time to get a table is a little long though.

This is a beautiful old building in downtown Austin. It offers brunch and dinner and has a nice bar area. They offered popcorn as a dinner start-up. Food was delicious- only caveat is it was spicy. So if you’re not used to Tex-mex version of things you might need some Tums like we did later LOL. But we’re from Illinois so…

We arrived early, before our reservation time, for dinner because the TA reviews the place is normally packed. We had to wait at the bar before our table was ready. Décor was nice and the wait staff adequate. My wife and I had the following and our 1-5 ratings were: 5 - Queso appetizer. By far the star of dinner. 4 - Fried green tomatoes. Good but tomatoes were small and served with a weird sauce, not your standard remoulade. ]4 - Rack of spare ribs with fries. Ribs tasted like they were bked in oven and put on the grill for a quick glaze. Fries saved the dish. 3 - Peanut butter pie. My said it was barely okay. Not sure if we would return. It is a very popular place since the restaurant and bar were absolutely packed and there wer a number of people waiting outside when we left.

Visited Moonshine on two consecutive nights, firstly as a couple and secondly with family. Both nights were exceptional. It’s rare that we visit a restaurant that seems to get everything right but Moonshine is one. The staff work together as a cohesive team and all seem to be well motivated and enjoy their jobs. As an example, when the hostess was seating customers and other guests came into the restaurant the bartender immediately went to the hostess stand to greet them. When the kitchen called for service the food was brought out immediately by whoever was available and staff would help serve, even if it wasn’t “their” table or section. Our bartenders Sam and Natalie were superb - excellent suggestions in terms of local whiskeys for my Old Fashioned and the Dirty Sixth with a moonshine float is also well worth trying. Food was plentiful and very tasty. We had a salad and garlic bread the first night and the chicken fried steak and Mac and cheese the second and everything was superb. Portions are Texas-sized so you won’t go hungry! There’s a small bar in the main building and a second patio bar adjacent. There’s courtyard seating for those who want to sit outdoors as well as plenty of indoor seating. We were a party of seven and they had no issues accommodating us! We’d have no hesitation in going back to Moonshine if we came back to Austin and for those visiting we’d heartily recommend it as an exceptionally good venue for food and drinks.

Highly recommend Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill! Ordered the Full Moon Platter and it did not disappoint! Bacon slices were great and plentiful! We also tried the Chicken and Waffles, and the Steak and Eggs! All dishes were amazing! We will definitely be back! Parking is a bit tricky so go ahead a pay for the valet!

Returning to Austin, Texas after 25 years, You know what to expect. While at Starbucks, I asked the manager there where to get the best chicken fried steak, good old fashion, beat to a pulp, hand breaded chicken fried steak. Her recommendation of Moonshine did not disappoint with a culinary art to the gravy, they were happy to split the meal for sharing that the steak was so tremendous its halves filled up two plates. There is the steak was the size of a plate itself! The waitress was very inviting with Southern hospitality, complete with terms of endearment, Darlins' and Sweeties! But very versed on recommendations for drinks, and willing to accommodate whatever needs we had! The fun part was here in the history of the restaurants and how I had started out as a place for church goers to stay and rest, but later became a speakeasy!

We had a wonderful experience at Moonshine! We made reservations and didn't have to wait long for the table. Everyone enjoyed their meal choices and the desserts were excellent also. Great service staff!

We came as a group on Sunday for brunch. Lots of people for a small space but buffet was plentiful and tasty. Mimosas were good. Prices were okay.

Early after work drinks and shareables here were fantastic. The place has a nice atmosphere and great staff. We shared 3 starters and out of those, I'd highly recommend the corndog shrimp. The frozen hard lemonade also hit the spot on a hot evening.

Our first time to downtown Austin and we had wandered quite a fair bit trying to find a nice, casual eatery on a Tuesday afternoon. Stumbled upon this place and was happy to see they were open. While we only ordered cocktails and an appetizer, we could see by the plates of the food being delivered around us that we could return and have a nice meal. Popcorn delivered to the table was a nice touch too.

Great atmosphere and the food was outstanding! We sat on the patio and enjoyed the food and the drinks Service was wonderful

Kind of place you think you’re not gonna like and it turned out excellent in every respect - they don’t take reservations and are very popular

First of all the building that this restaurant is in has a neat older vibe. Rock walls, old windows make for a nice cozy setting. The food was delicious, chicken fried steak is a must and huge! The apple pie moon shine was amazing. Service and everything was great, I will go again!!

Great service from Nicole, lovely room - we had a nice table by a window. Ignore the nearby mega-building site (new convention centre) , we walked here with no problems. The quality of the food - especially the calamari on the starter/sharing menu section - is very good. If you are here at happy hour then the food and drink is an absolute bargain. Highly recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyed the drinks and food we had ordered. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere in this old building was great!

Went to Moonshine for lunch with family visiting from out-of-town. It was our first visit there. The GOOD - we had only a fifteen minute wait to get a party-of-five seated. The waitress was great and the food was good and plentiful. The BAD - we had absolutely the worst table location that we've ever had at a "nice" restaurant. Right out in the lobby next to all the people entering and waiting in line to be seated. The noise level was one of the worst we've ever encountered at a restaurant. Could barely hear the person seated next to you talking. The GOODs rated a "5" each; the BADs a "1" or "2". Overall, we rated it a "3" - but the reader will have to judge for themselves based upon the details above.

What an amazing way to spend our last night in Austin, excellent service and the food amazing, loving the popcorn on the table before the meal but a huge shout out to Taylor for looking after us this evening her customer service was exceptional.. thank you

Great dinner at the great bar. Beautifully mixed drinks and personality from Luke and his buddy. Great food too and close to our hotel downtown. Would definitely recommend. That said, better make reservations. It's busy early.

yum food. ordered another dish after finishing dinner cuz couldn't get enough! lovely staff/agile. GF menu available as well

This is by far the best place to eat on the face of the Earth. The trout is unbelievable and the desert options are just mouth watering. Did I say the drinks were just mind blowing? Well come and try it for yourself. Absolutely one of the top places to eat in Austin. Wish I came here earlier

The food was good, service was great and the wait for our table was less than 30 minutes. The atmosphere was in between patio and boho.

This was the first restaurant I went to when I visited Austin. It was recommended by some locals at the nearby Visitor Center. It happened to be a Sunday when they were having their all you can eat brunch and it was delicious! Everything I had was flavorful and fresh, including my first introduction to migas. I had the chicken and waffles, chicken fried steak, hash, green chile macaroni, migas, pulled pork and more. There was a biscuit bar and plenty of fresh fruit and an amazing cinnamon roll. The service was friendly and efficient. The buffet was constantly refilled with fresh food and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. It was an excellent way to start my vacation!

We stumbled across this restaurant while driving around downtown Austin. Parking was an issue but we resolved it within 10 minutes or so. We had a wait of about 10 minutes but it was well worth the wait. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. The food was just exceptional. The Brussel sprouts were fabulous. Please go try their food, you will not be sorry.

FOOD WITH HAIRS. The manager didn’t care, no apologies were offered and not even a discount for the food we had to leave untouched because it was grossed to even see it. Simply #careless #foodwithhair #grossfood

Came for just some small light quick bites to eat, and some cocktails, but ended up eating one of our favourite dishes of a 3 week holiday to USA, the fried green tomatoes, a sublime dish with shrimp and tomatoes on top with an Aoili, we ended up ordering 2 ! Cocktails were beautifully crafted, and it was lovely to order at bar and sit on the terrace overlooking the street all informal like at lunchtime. Interior decor was also beautiful I noticed on a restroom break, barman and team really friendly. Do not miss the fried green tomatoes !

Feels like a small hole in the wall spot. It’s quiet, little dark, and romantic. Best chicken fried steak I may have ever had. Calamari and queso were also on point. Wish I would’ve had room for dessert. Do not come here to catch a sports game though! They have 1 or 2 tv’s at the bar and not visible in main dining area.

I came here as part of a chapter event with about 15 people, and we had the little small Stone House kind of at the end of The Establishment to ourselves. it's perfect for about 20 people, Max. I would say the waitstaff was excellent and the food was really good .we just had appetizers but several different ones, and they were all really tasty. I highly recommend this place. we also got some moonshine. We tried the banana pudding, and it was fantastic. I will definitely return when I come to Austin again.

Moonshine is a must visit restaurant / patio bar and grill! I was in charge of organizing our team trip and this place did not disappoint. Devon, Noe and the staff were incredible!

Great little historical restaurant with great food! We stoped there for lunch before our tour since it is near the Austin visitor center . We loved it so much that we went back ti dinner !

The fantastic food and drinks were only topped by the amazing service. The catfish and jalepeno steak were perfectly prepared. The grits (and I am not a grits person) were freakin delish. I almost ordered them again on their own for dessert.

We stumbled by for lunch. Lots of construction going on all around it...Don't let that deter you as this place was so good at lunch, that we came back for dinner that same day!! Everything we had was spot on. Great Bourbon selection too. Staff were friendly and very helpful....

Recommended by double decker tour. Wanted outside but ended up at bar. Was fun watched baseball and lovely food. Best fried green tomatoes ever. Bartender tired but kept moving. He was superb at up selling. 🤪 margarita was great but inhaled it so sunny and hot. Other guest’s food—-gasp looked so good. Mac and cheese yummy and club sandwich was perfect for lunch. Glad I didn’t get a heavier greasier meal as so warm. Crew was polite and never let me run out of water. Nice stop. Building has German history and was grocery back in day.

Very good meal and good service and the setting is not too loud. Attire is casual and food quality is very good. We dined on a Saturday night and did not have to wait long for a table. Recent construction - convention center demolition in the neighborhood - may be affecting business but don’t let that deter you. Location is walking distance from the Downtown Hilton so easy to see how this place could get very busy. Good amount of seating in bar area if waiting for an inside or outside table for lunch or dinner.

The salads were great and the service was fantastic. The wait was supposed to be an hour but only about 30 minutes. Plenty of options for cocktails too!

Highly recommend Moonshine. Great food and our waiter was terrific. The Chicken @ Waffles were delicious and we had the deviled eggs as an appetizer. Delicious!!!!

Great service, atmosphere, and even better food! If we ever go back to Austin we will go back! Best chicken and waffles ever.

Absolutely loved this place, felt very welcomed and enjoyed one of the best vegetarian burgers ever. The place has a great atmosphere and the staff are very attentive. The food is really good, but take heed the portions are big.

Great for casual dining. A fun restaurant with a "southern cooking vibe". Service was efficient. Would not hesitate to visit again.

Absolutely fantastic! From the delicious appetizers to our meal it was delicious. The shrimp appetizer that’s a “type” of corn dog is really good! The calamari was the best most of us had ever had. You can share most meals as they’re huge. Don’t miss this place.

Loved loved loved the brunch here! The customer service and ambiance were great! Excellent comfort food and the best Bloody Mary I’ve ever had. We will definitely be back.

Wonderful service, excellent food and decent prices. We didn’t find the noise an issue and we ate here twice!

It was really packed on a weekday night so we chose to eat at the bar. The bartender was so friendly and attentive. Our food was great and a lot of it. Two of us had the Beyond burger and the fries that came with it were absolutely delicious. The men got chicken and waffles and they couldn’t even eat all of it.

Stopped in mid day for a little something light for takeout. Ordered the pretzels and pimento cheese dip, yum! Pretzels were crispy outside and soft inside and the warm pimento cheese had a lot of good flavor. We also got the hot honey wings, they were a really good mix of sweet hot. After walking back to our hotel with the takeout we discoverd they accidently gave us someone else's order too so we got to experience the mac n cheese, which had a super cheddar cheese taste and the chicken almondine dish, delious breaded chicken with artichokes and a light caper sauce both were delicious.

Convenient when we were in a hurry with a menu to please a very picky vegetarian also. Wonderful old building and cool atmosphere.

Cute building. Food was great. Do NOT recommend sitting on the patio. Flies devoured our food and one even landed and died in my mixed drink (they did get me another one though). Also birds would fly in a grab food off of tables. We had the deviled eggs (they were average), queso (very good!), and garlic bulbs (amazing). Also chicken and waffles were good too!

what a great dinner. the corn dog shrimp was sooo good. The stuff pork chop was sinful! This is one of my favorite restaurants in austin!

The food was amazing! The horseradish salmon was delicious and the peanut butter with Oreo crust was phenomenal! Would recommend if you are ever in Austin. Service was great too!

This is a popular spot and they do take reservations. They can be quite noisy and at times it is hard to hear the conversation. The food is good and the service is excellent. The portions are generous to the point of extreme.

This spot was close to the Austin Visitor Center and it was Happy Hour time - so we headed here for HH and did not disappoint. The place has a nice vibe and our bartender was friendly and efficient. The drinks were nice and the burnt end quesadilla was outstanding Started getting busy early evening - with nice outdoor seating. Was a great stop!

We arrived at Moonshine without a reservation and we were happy to get two seats at the bar. The restaurant was very busy and we were in the middle of all the action at the bar but we still had a pleasant experience. The bar tenders were great with drink & food recommendations. Everything we ordered was delicious and it was a great experience.

Definitely glad i stopped here for my first meal in austin! The moonshine was friendly open atmosphere and buzzing with excited diners. The shrimp corn dogs were amazing and the chicken salad was great as the chicken tenders were crunchy and flavorful with a great balance of fresh ingredients. My only regret was not mashing it to the banana pudding every one was raving about. There will always be next time i guess...

We had a Sunday 1pm reservation for brunch. Place was packed for good reason!!! They had a beautiful brunch spread, and everything was delicious,....even down to the fruit! We enjoyed the $20 Mimosa. It is one bottle of champagne with orange juice. My husband and I split that, and it was the perfect amount. I recommend making a reservation. We sat outside on the patio, which was lovely.

We walked in Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill for dinner without a reservation. They were busy, but we were quickly seated. Our waiter--Jonathan--was super friendly, yet very efficient and attentive. We ordered a few appetizers (corn dog shrimps, queso, fried green tomatoes) and a salad (grilled romaine) to share, and he immediately offered to split our order into two plates. The food arrived quickly, and everything was really good. The ambiance of the place is fun--elevated bar scene--and all the food we saw come out of the kitchen looked really good. We would go back to Moonshine in a heartbeat, and we'd ask for Jonathan to repeat how good we were treated.

Very good food, quite reasonable for downtown Austin Sweet potato tots were excellent....salads were very nice. Burgers were great.

we went here twice on our recent trip to Austin and it didn't disappoint. Service was quick and the food delicious.

Great service, really excellent food and a friendly atmosphere. After 2 weeks visiting Texas this is probably the best meal we’ve enjoyed together. Compliments to the Moonshine team !

We went to the moonshine for lunch. There's a lot of construction going on so we parked in a garage. We sat inside at the bar. The bar is small, and not special in anyway. The service was great. I had the fried green tomatoes which were uniquely tasty. I had the porkchop, and it was tender like a steak. My wife had the chicken picatta which was very tasty. I also had their mule which was okay. I would definitely go there again.

Fantastic brunch! Took my wife and son and all three of us were impressed. Nice decor friendly staff. The brunch offered so many choices that were fantastic. All for under $30 a person. Highly recommend.

The first time I was there for a company function and we had a side room and a tremendous buffet, with all selections delicious. The second time I went with different colleagues and we had more of a sit-down dinner from the menu, and it was just as good. Very good and attentive service, too.

We just got in to Austin, after a long flight, and were tired and hungry. The Fairmont Hotel recommended Moonshine. It was great. I had the fried green tomatoes and my husband had something we dubbed "shrimp corn dogs." He loved it. We had good service from our waiter Ben and enjoyed having our first meal in an historic Austin building.

Excellent atmosphere, great service and top notch food. Chicken and waffles were brilliant! Bourbon slush cocktail is next level. Small wait for table but well managed and worth the wait.

I visited this establishment a few weeks ago and I was shocked on how great it was. Coffee was pretty good

My cocktail, a Blind Mule, was delicious as was the complimentary popcorn. The popcorn was a little too salty, but I really prefer it that way…and it was free! The atmosphere (the restaurant is in an old house) and service were great. The food was good but not delicious. Overall, we would definitely go back to this place, but we’re not in a rush,

We went during Happy Hour, mostly because it is getting dark @6 the area is a little sketchy and we were walking. Chicken and Waffles and Chicken friend steak. All we could and more. Banana Pudding for dessert. Very pleasant waiter. Neat old historical building was a plus. Happy Hour Margaritas were also good!

Do not stop here. I was overcharged repetitively and when I finally called, the bar manager Liz acted as if I was a waste of her time, completely out of control! Check your bill before you leave, I am not the only one with this type of review!

Sat out in the well covered patio, good southern food and grate Bloody Mary. Pricing was good and honest fresh food. Will be back service was excellent

Went there for lunch with family. Loved this quaint restaurant with a nice atmosphere. The service was great and the food was good. Particularly loved the fried green tomatoes. The free popcorn was a nice addition. Would definitely visit again.

Fun vibe in nicely restored building with porch and patio. Food and drinks are delicious. Try shrimp corn dog skewers and fried green tomatoes. Entrees and desserts were also delicious—comfort food!

Stumbled upon this busy spot since it was close to our hotel. Happened to score two seats at the bar to avoid the 40 minute wait. The food and atmosphere was such that we would’ve waited the 40 minutes and not been disappointed. Large portions of really tasty food and a staff that all work together make this busy restaurant a great downtown spot for lunch or dinner. The LadyBird cocktail was super yummy and the shrimp corn dogs were also fun. Definitely would recommend trying this place!

This place had a fantastic atmosphere both inside and outside. The food was also amazing (except for the peach cobbler sadly). Our waiter was terrible though unfortunately. We will try it again though. Very unique place! Southern food with a modern spin on it- lovely! We went to the new Cedar Park location but I’m not finding a page for them here on Trip Advisor yet.

Beautiful building with inside and outside dining. Large portions and food was delicious. Reasonable prices. Would recommend highly.

We wandered in for lunch because of Moonshine's proximity to the Austin Visitors Center. Turns out this casual location has a broad menu, good food, a nice list of beers and craft cocktails, friendly attentive staff and reasonable prices. We liked it so much that we returned for for Happy Hour after our Austin Duck Adventure!

After reaching out, filling out their paperwork, and confirming each time that I wanted to reserve the spot they had open - their "Event" manager emails me to tell me that the venue is booked 1 week before my date. No call, no response, nothing - Never seen worse customer service - and for such a big company. Avoid this place if you have groups! Worst customer service!

We flew in from Florida for an event and met our son‘s friend for dinner. Since he’s from Austin, he knew one of the bartenders and got us a seat in the back room to chill while we were waiting for our table. When we did get our table, it was right inside the front door, so there was a lot of noise and people moving around while we are eating. I have a chicken dish with mashed potatoes, which was good. Our waiter was very helpful.

We had a wonderful time at the restaurant. It was very crowded but we chose to wait about 30 minutes for a table. We sat in the waiting area and had some drinks until the table was ready. I ordered a pink lady martini, but I would NOT recommend it. It tasted like medicine. My second drink was a whiskey apple pie and it was delicious. We opted for a ton of appetizers instead of getting full dinners and they were all great. I recommend this restaurant to adults only.

we were in town for the state UIL golf meet. there were 14 of us. we valet'd our car which was like $12. the bill for us was something like $380. variety of things were ordered but we loved the chicken and waffles, rainbow trout, corn dog shrimp, garlic bread, chicken fried steak, chicken sandwich and more. the popcorn snack when you are seated is a nice touch also..

Our business was in town for the Texas legislature and went here for dinner with a group with a fixed menu. The food was overall good, but the bread pudding was not good. Loved the atmosphere, historical building. We walked here from our downtown hotel. In a good neighborhood. Good service.

This spot had very flavorful food and drinks! The brick ambiance was nice and I ordered a steak with mashed potatoes and a margarita on the rocks, The food was amazing and the portion was super big. The staff was nice as well! Definitely recommend for dinner!

Lovely building and very close to our hotel Dinner tasty banana pudding delicious Food very reasonably priced Staff very friendly Revisited next day for brunch

We got real lucky and scored the only 2 seats left at one of the bars. The place is broken up into several different rooms and areas. Some totally enclosed, some open with fire pits. When we were there they were serving several large groups. About 200 in all. So the place was PACKED! There were happy hour special prices on drinks and apps. We ordered the deviled eggs, roast garlic bulbs and fried green tomatoes. We thought they’d be little plates. We were wrong. I was planning on getting the marinated hanger steak but once all the huge apps came out I knew that wasn’t going to happen. Deviled eggs were very good. The roast garlic bulbs were perfectly cooked but doused in a bit too much basalmic vinegar. Squeeze them out on a plate and then spread it around on the toasty bread. AND THEN THERE WERE THE FRIED GREEN TOMATOES!!!!! Outta this world good! With excellent sauces. They even comped us a wonderful peanut butter pie (with chunks of little Reeses in it) for da wife’s birthday. We had to take it home to eat though….. GO! WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!!!!!

3 adults for lunch. Had chicken and waffles for the first time--it was excellent. The chicken was very moist and flavorful and the waffles were great. There was enough for me to eat half and take half home for lunch the next day. Husband had a chicken sandwich with sweet potato tots and he said it was very good as well. Service was excellent and the server had a cute sense of humor. We ate inside as it was a cool, cloudy day. Would definitely return!

This place was great, really busy but the bar staff were extremely friendly. I sat by myself and ate at the bar. Food was great service was spot on. Great selection of whisky/beer too

Loved everything about this place! The food was delicious. The service was excellent: fast (but not rushed), attentive and friendly. The drink, Moonshine Mule, was perfect. Love the building and the overall atmosphere. Prices are good, too. Very busy so get there early or sit in the bar like we did.

Upon researching, we had to try it. Bar staff were great. Drinks and apps were nice. Priced fair. Came back for Kinfolk downstairs. Wow! Experience to remember! Great staff knowledge and attention to detail. A high quality experience. Worth it

The Sunday brunch here was absolutely incredible. There were so many options: beautiful cut fruit, tons of pastries, french toast, pancakes, bread pudding, eggs (various styles), salads, amazing grilled veggies, breakfast meats, etc. Many delicious gluten free options, too--including the incredible cheddar grits and migas. We were in heaven. Absolutely worth it, in the top ten restaurant experiences I've ever had!

Moonshine is a great place to grab lunch or dinner. We went there for a dinner and 2 lunches when we spent the week. Great Iced tea too!

Perfect Find for my 1st super bowl Sunday! It's always nice when you find a great place after wandering around for a bit. Being a Brit, I wanted to watch some of the super bowl Sunday even though it seems to only be about Taylor Swift, the 7$mil ad breaks, on the half-time,from a foreigners perspective (sorry!🤭) It was really nice that the bartender Derek introduced himself and gave a brief history of the place we were in. It turned out to be one of the oldest places in the area, And it's just a nice touch as well. Derek gave great customer service from start to finish, And this is one of the reason why American bartenders are worth the tips that you (culturally) give them. You would never get this type of customer service from a bartender in the UK, and I would rather do this than have grumpy bartender who adds nothing to my experience, that I don't have to tip like back home. He That we were looking at what they were like, the portion, sizes, etc, What the cocktails were like etc. And genuinely seem to like his job and care about his customers. We seats at the bar next to other people watching the match which was nice. To be honest we ended up talking but it was nice. I ended up being in a bar with the game on in The background, getting to see that great last minute win from the chiefs along with other people in a bar with a brilliant atmosphere. So my heart lit up when Derek said we specialise in whisky because whisky is my thing. The cocktail I had was beautiful. Really spicy. The spicier the better for me. The dude enjoyed his cocktail two and food. The food I chose was really unique. It was roasted garlic bulbs which I've never had anywhere else in the world. They were really really yummy and direct explained how to prepare them to get the most of them, etc, essentially how to eat them. I also ordered green beans to be healthy instead of chips, and I'm really glad I did because it didn't feel like I was eating vegetables. They were coated in this amazing seasoning. They just tasted so yummy and were really enjoyable. I wish green beans were like that everywhere! A really nice homely American place. I will definitely be visiting again When I come back in November. Thank you Derek! ❤️

This place was so wonderful that we ate here two days in a row. The staff are the shining star of this restaurant. They were all extremely accommodating, prompt and friendly. They are the only restaurant in Austin that we had a great experience with…,the other restaurants were run by employees who clearly could have cared less about their customers. I highly recommend everyone check this place out.

I was hesitant to try the chicken fried steak because it tends to be tough, but our waiter said it was the best. He was right! The meat is tender - great flavor on the crust and gravy. It is truly delicious - and a huge portion!! The banana pudding was spectacular!! It is topped with fresh strawberries and caramel. I have been here several times and have it has always been a great experience - including great service.

On a business trip and ate here. Split the Chicken Fried Steak and it was amazing. The Brussel Sprout appetizer. Was delicious.

We had a very nice lunch at Moonshine. Service was excellent and the food was great as well. We sat in the bar area and the bartender also took care of our food order. We have esteem at Moonshine several times when visiting from out of town and it’s always good. The resturant is just around the corner and walking distance from the Hilton Downtown and the Austin Tourism Center.

Good food, but this restaurant would not allow us to split the bill between our two families and a waitress decided to tell my kids off who were afraid of the bees on the patio. I would definitely not classify this restaurant as family friendly.

We had the Chicken Fried Steak, Chicken and Waffles, and Chicken Almondine. All were good. The Waffles, though not crispy, tasted like cake. Portions were large. Service was prompt and friendly.

Interesting, historic location in downtown Austin. Very friendly staff. Huge variety for the brunch buffet. Valet parking, great outdoor patio dining.

Get the biscuits! I’m from the Southeast and we love our biscuits. Some of the best I’ve ever had. I also loved the brussel sprouts. I didn’t try it, but my coworker’s queso and chips looked amazing.

Cute place with indoor and outdoor seating. Excellent service and the Food was great! Don’t miss the meatloaf sandwich and the banana pudding

95% of Austin could use a lesson in customer service from this outstanding restaurant! We went for dinner, the food and drinks were amazing, and the quality of service unmatched anywhere else in Austin. We loved it so much, we returned the following day. This place has it all!

This was a wonderful place to eat. We walked from our hotel and grabbed seats at the bar. The bartender (I didn’t get her name) recommended the shrimp and grits. I was skeptical because I’ve been burned before but she convinced me. Wow! Just wow! The grits were perfect and the relish (it was more of a relish than a sauce) had bits of sausage and beef. It was so good that I swear I was moaning while I ate it. After enjoying a drink she sold me on dessert too. I ordered the bread pudding based on recommendation and I don’t even like bread pudding. It was so good with some caramel and ice cream. I hope to eat here again before I leave!

Words cannot express how great the food, atmosphere and drinks are at Moonshine. You will not be disappointed. Their southern style comfort food make your mouth water and the popcorn is out of this world.

Food and service was excellent!! A couple of large groups in our sitting area were loud so it was difficult to converse with the people I was with. Be sure to read the historical marker in front of the restaurant. Moonshine Grill has great ambience.

The food here is wonderful. Atmosphere is great. And service was good. The only person was not real friendly was the bartender who seemed like she didn’t want to be there. Everyone else was great. Food is eclectic and seasoned very well. Down home style cooking. We throughly enjoyed our visit. Will be returning

Great service, food and drinks We ate here three times on our trip and was consistently delicious every time. Within walking distance from a lot of the hotels in the area .

I love Moonshine. Brunch, lunch, dinner. Every meal I’ve had at both locations (downtown and cedar park) I’ve been so impressed by. Their chefs consistently deliver good and flavorful food. Anytime I have friends or family visiting I make sure to take them to Moonshine. I have business lunches there on the regular and truly love everything on the menu.

Had the pimento burger and brussel sprouts - the burger was pretty good, but the sprouts where amazing. Sometimes the side dish wins, this was close to a KO!

great place and really good quality. service is also very good. nice bar area while you wait to get a table, which usually does not take very long.

Just OK. I read the had GREAT brunch but unfortunately it was just ok. Good service and nice presentation but lackluster in flavor.

This spot was close to our hotel and we lucked into it right as they opened Sunday morning. Outstanding selection and delicious offerings. Would absolutely return.

Lovely restaurant across the street from the Austin Visitors Center. Good food, reasonably priced. We all ended up getting the same thing. Attentive staff.

We love going to Brunch on Saturday and Sunday. We have had the GREEN CHILI & PORK SAUSAGE HASH, Love the French Toast and Bacon and Biscuits and Gravy. Love the Chicken Fried Steak, potatoes and gravy.

Moonshine Bar and Grill is an unique dining experience. The food is very good. Their special flair add to each dish brings out the delicious flavors. A very good dining experience.

One of the things I like about Austin is how close so many things are and that you can walk to most venues and places. We had finished food and live music elsewhere but wanted to enjoy another cocktail or drink somewhere and the speakeasy Kinfolk was recommended. We walked over there and it is in the basement of a house and we did not have a reservation and was fully occupied, but the upstairs bar Moonshine had room for us... we were seated at a nice, covered, outdoor patio with fire pit to keep us warm on a cool January evening. The bartenders were friendly. The Bourbon selection was extensive so I asked the Bartender for recommendations and she made a great recommendation that was not overly expensive but absolutely delicious. we mostly enjoyed cocktails and company and this place was perfect for both. It's a happening place and reservations are recommended. We got lucky to get in on a Thursday night at 9 PM.
Great food, huge portions, but there can be a wait to be seated!
This is nice little gem! The moonshine flight is delish! Food portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. The restaurant itself is not that big so you may find yourself waiting during peak times. Definitely worth the visit!
