a great "crummy but good'

By animaleyedoc |

this is a place that if you werent aware of it, you wouldnt go in..crummy looking on the outside but great food...small counter, few tables, wait to sit on a weekend...food is special..I had crab meat omelet with spinach, wife had a waffle with whipped cream and strawberries (real ones) ..coffee fresh, grapefruit juice and orange juice freshly squeezed...its the place for a great breakfast-brunch and it now is my "place to go" until something a lot better comes along. Service can be spotty but thats ok cause the end point is worth waiting for including the home made jam on the table...so if you are visiting Phila and can hop a cab from your hotel or walk, do so...it's a place that probably doesnt make the top 10 attractions for food in the city but its super and then you can walk a few blocks and be in the heart of the italian market..what more can be said for a neighborhood place except that i will keep going back...seth and barbara koch

Political views not appreciated in a public restaurant

By Betty C |

Although the food and service were good, I did not appreciate the political views posted everywhere.

Boring

By Armando5908 |

Rude staff.... And outside needs sprucing up. The metal coffee cups are discusting. Too bohemia for my tast.

Really poor service!

By Waterlily741 |

We didn’t have to wait to long for a table which was great on a Saturday morning. However after we sat and ordered, we watched everyone around us, most who sat much later than us, get served before us. The servers just don’t seem to understand customer service or give a crap. The food was good but we were just about to leave when it finally came.

long wait...great brunch...totally worth it

The cook attacked a man outside on the street while I having my pancakes. Horrible waiting area. Hate the camping mugs for coffee

Great Place for Breakfast

By acedaughter |

You will not go away hungry after eating breakfast at the Morning Glory! Large plates of delicious food. You won't believe the size of the biscuits! (And the peach jam was divine!) Go early on a Sunday, or you'll be waiting in line.

Greatest place for brunch

By HHJennifer |

I love this place! Haven't been back in 10 years and it was still as good as I remembered. The menu hadn't changed much, which in this case, was good :). I love the fruity pancakes and the frittatas! Great coffee too.

The worst brunch ever

By soccer29 |

We were waiting for 1 hour under cold rain. When we could get in, we were just seated under the air conditioning (set at 65 F ) and we were freezing. I mentioned it to the waiter, and he told us that he can't regulate it. 15 minutes later, the air conditioning stopped. it was too hot for the waiters. So they set it at 63F. They finally took our order and we had to wait for an other 45 minutes before having our food. It was okay but very greasy. When we asked for the bill, we noticed that they over charged us and they even didn't apologize. On the top of this, the parking was 2 hours limited and very difficult to find. Because we spent 2 hours and an half for a such unpleasant brunch, I got a ticket.

Uncomfortable and Unnecessary

By Christopher C |

I didn’t stay long enough to try the food, so this review is based solely on the atmosphere. After being seated, I noticed the restaurant had a political display—a mannequin out front dressed like President Trump in chains. Regardless of where anyone stands politically, bringing that into a dining experience felt inappropriate and in poor taste. It created an uncomfortable environment, and I chose to leave without ordering. Because of that, I won’t be returning.

the best for breakfast

By SS1008 |

Morning glory is immensely popular with the 20 and 30 somethings of the neighborhood. Casual and diner-ish with a varied menu, it is mostly known as a breakfats spot. Be prepared to wait for a table on weekends.

Good food

By barrtu56 |

We went for a late breakfast on Tuesday. The service was good and the food was delicious. I had the vegetable frittata and it was soooo good. My only complaint is that parking in Philly is a nightmare for outsiders....but that isn't the restaurant's fault. I would definitely dine here again.

Half good, half bad

By Trip117 |

I decided to try the Morning Glory after driving by about a million times over the years. The place is very small and not at all fancy in any way. There were only a few other customers on a rainy weekday morning. I was seated right away and ordered pan cakes and eggs. The pancakes came out quickly and were still smoking. They had a decent taste and I finished them off quickly. The eggs came and they too were smoking hot. It was a pleasure to actually receive food that was still hot when it arrived. The eggs looked great and I asked for some ketchup. That was their downfall. It seems that they make their own ketchup here as it comes in some sort of wine bottle. I wish they would have mentioned this when I asked for ketchup. I wish they would have offered Heinz or their own, and given me the choice. I hated their ketchup! It destroyed my eggs to the point I couldn't finish them. This spoiled a good breakfast.

Breakfast at an American diner

By cliffyal75 |

Arrived Sunday morning and the place was almost full. Service was fairly quick being as full as it was. I had a breakfast burrito and my wife had the pancakes. Both was really good, but the potatoes and homemade ketchup for me was a winner. By the time our food arrived (+-20min) the inside area was full except for 2 seats at the bar counter. I have nothing to compare it to (ie, another diner), but we both really enjoyed the food. With coffee, our bill came to $28 which seems to be about average.

Go during off-peak hours

By WhatKindOfDog |

I've tried to go to this place several times in past years, but it was always closed or too packed. However, twice in the past few months I've lunch here on a weekday with a friend who lives in the neighborhood, and both times there was no wait for a table. The brunch menu is quite good and expansive (and you can get breakfast at 12:30 PM on a weekday.) The tofu scramble was so-so, but the frittata du jour was excellent (gorgonzola, pear, caramelized onion.) I didn't much care for the biscuit, which was quite beautiful but dry. There are a lot of pancake and waffle-type items on the menu, and beautiful looking muffins, but I didn't try them. They bring a bottle of home-made catsup to the table. It was a bit sweet to taste. The coffee is served in tin cups. At today's visit the waiter seemed annoyed that we were not ready to place our order quickly enough (although the place was not at all crowded-- lots of empty tables.) Other members of the staff seemed friendlier and less snippy. Lunch was a bit expensive: two frittatas, a coffee, and a (no refills) lemonade for $31 not counting tip.

Be Nice or Leave

By Pat_Picks |

As a retired librarian I very much appreciate TA commentaries as I research vacation destinations, and certainly I found an abundance of helpful information on this forum for our trip to Philadelphia almost two weeks ago. Though we followed up on a couple good restaurant suggestions -- Devon Seafood (for dinner) and Marathon Grill (for brunch), I'd say at this vantage point that one of the most memorable occasions of the weekend was happening -- SURPRISE! -- upon the Morning Glory Diner at 10th and Fitzwater as we walked the route from the Warwick to Isgro's Bakery. So glad we decided to try it even though we hadn't checked it out on TA. My husband noted when he saw several police cruisers parked there, that the food must be good. From the amazing menu we chose two of the daily specials -- a frittata with green apple slices, brie and proscuitto and a waffle with peaches, almonds and mascapone. (After that it was good that we walked almost 10 miles in the course of the day!) Besides the expertly and creatively prepared food, we really got a kick out of our personable server's t-shirt ("Be nice or leave") and our pre-breakfast "entertainment" watching plenty of attitude displayed by the inhospitable hostess and the would-be diner on line in front of us who explained to me "I'm no shrinking violet, and I'm not going to take this stuff from her." (We'd arrived about 8:15 on a Saturday when all but one table was taken, and Miss Surly insisted that she was saving that for her sisters!) You just can't get this in Ohio, and I'm certain we'll head for the Morning Glory whenever we come to Philadelphia.

It was all true!

By red6111 |

We had heard about Morning Glory from the night shift, it is a favorite of theirs after work. It was fabulous! It's an unassuming little corner place but you should not pass up the chance to stop and taste their wares. From the piping hot coffee, to the piping hot fritata (how did they do it) and stuffed waffles with fresh whipped cream, you will not be disappointed.

If you're looking for an alternative to cheese steaks...

By JTadeo R |

I can't recall how I got to this one but I can tell you it provided a remarkable experience. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, the place is clean and not at all pretentious. I ordered a BLT and felt not at all disappointed, it was served with potatoes and some sort of homemade ketchup which surprised me with a non-sweet delicious flavour. Bathrooms were clean and are decorated as if they were located in your neighbour's house. Price is reasonable and portions are generous. Try to save some space for dessert as their homemade pies might surprise you.

Finer Diner

By Herstory_62 |

A South Philly classic with appropriately seedy chrome décor & recorded upbeat music that attracts locals & tourists as well, Morning Glory, which bills itself as a "finer diner," lives up to its name. With an affordable but sophisticated breakfast/brunch menu that offers pumpkin crunch stuffed French toast, shrimp frittata, breakfast pizza or a tofu scrambler for vegans, portions are generous & most customers seem to leave with take-out boxes of leftovers. Yet more traditional "samwiches," served with either a pile of fresh green salad or fries, are good too & the BLT made w/ smoked bacon got high marks from this self-proclaimed BLT connoisseur. Service is super friendly & efficient & if you sit at the long low counter, you can watch your meal being prepared by short-order pros.

Good lunch

By GBMPhila |

Lunch was good, had the tuna sandwich, & soda. Bread was fresh. Staff was courteous. Wait wasn't that long. Was crowded, though. I disagree with somebody's comment that it is Mexican. Staff is MOSTLY Hispanic, true, & nothing's wrong with that, but food is (very) American. Their motto is "Be Nice or Leave"; and I agree, 100%.

GREAT NEIGHBORHOOD DINER

By gladys3152 |

My son who lives in this neighborhood had been looking forward to trying this restaurant and although we had quite a long wait on a Monday morning it was definitely worth it. Loved all the political affiliations. The servings are huge and were delicious. Coffee served in metal mugs! Everything here is homemade - jams, ketchup etc. It will I"m sure become a weekly favourite for my son who enjoys eating out. Cash or Venmo only. We also had the pleasure of meeting Sam who was delightful.

pretty damn good. although if i'm going to that area for brunch, i'm still going to sabrina's.

Banana Bread French Toast!

By BaldAndHappy |

The special was Maria’s Banana Bread French Toast. If they have it… get it. Best breakfast I have had in years. Everyone loved their breakfasts, but the special French toast was through the roof. Super friendly (and on top of it) staff.

Philly casual at its very best

By Em J |

One of Philly's real gems. The food is terrific, the staff lovely. Their frittatas are better than any omelet in the city. It can be very busy at the weekend, but the line moves quickly, so the wait is usually pretty reasonable. We've never had a bad experience in all the years we've been coming to Morning Glory.

Truly, a finer diner. I...

By Dan Royles |

Truly, a finer diner. I would wait outside an hour in the freezing January morning air for a frittata and a cup of La Colombe. Okay, so when I say that I would, I mean that I have.

love it

By Sheila U |

we've been there twice. no complaints about service or food. inventive breakfast dishes, like breakfast pizza and monkey french toast, will keep us hoping we can make it back there the next time we go to philly.

The staff were attentive and prompt! The omelette and bacon were incredible. The pancakes were great also. I will be back!

Great food & service

By Royce V |

We went in for a later lunch (1:45) and had to wait only about 5 minutes as we were willing to sit at the counter. Perhaps the other reviews I read about the wait staff had to do with going when it's real busy, but it was full when we were there and the staff was friendly, attentive and made us feel welcome. We enjoyed being at the counter and watching the cooks go through their paces. The aptmosphere is no frills, but its fun with very good food. I had the Guiness Beef Stew and it was some of the best I've had. None of the four in my group were disappointed with the food or the experience.

Pure joy

Amazing comfort food, great atmosphere. Feels like stepping inside a time machine that gets you to all the way down to old America. Don't miss their biscuits and baked goods. You'll thank me later!

Hands Down the Best Breakfast Place

By Mykeeboy |

We stumbled upon this place a few years back and have made it our breakfast destination every time we are in Philly. For breakfast its a little more than most places with meals around $12 plus another $2.50 for coffee but the portions are big and you will have a hard time finishing your meal. The food is fresh as can be. This last trip we had a frittata and a breakfast burrito. Both were absolutely delicious. The biscuits a unbelievable. There can be a long wait to get in but its worth the wait. We live an hour and a half away and seriously contemplate road tripping it for breakfast.

Happened across this place and stopped for breakfast on a busy Saturday morning. Food was good, service was all right (they were slammed).

Local Diner

By jklmn1995 |

We like supporting local businesses and this was a treat. Morning Glory is small and we had to wait outside after signing up on a clipboard. The pancakes were large and my husband had an omelet with guacamole-- he thought he was in heaven. The prices were extremely reasonable and it looked like so many regulars were enjoying brunch as well. Wish we had a few more mornings on our trip so we could have tried a few more things on the menu.

American Diner except it is Mexican !

By Carlouquito |

It was quite a long shot from our hotel, but really worth it. This place is located in a very nice neighborhood and the walk is very pleasant. This American diner is actually running by Mexicans and they offer a perfect mix of both cooking style. A must go !

Great brunch.

Great brunch spot.

By Phillysojourn |

Their food is really great rich brunch food that makes you so happy and relaxed. Coffee is great. Only downside is that lots of people know. So, you may have to wait a while for a table.

Great Saturday Brunch

By jacquelinerose5 |

This small but charming diner is a great place to have weekend brunch. It is in the middle of a real neighborhood, with a very nice children's park across the street. They do not take reservations, so you will probably wait a while. But the outdoor patio is a pleasant place to wait if the weather is good. I ordered eggs and the best biscuit I have had in years. But the most delicious items are the sweets: pecan waffles, monkey french toast, and pancakes. Bring cash; they don't take credit cards.

Great breakfast location

By CCEden |

A very American diner (with a latin twist) which offered great breakfasts at a reasonable price and very good service. Note it's cash only but there is a ATM in the diner.

Come here all the time

By MCD3127 |

Come here all the time - love the food. Simple and easy with great value. The only drawback is the wait on weekends - often an hour from 10am on. It's so small they really can't help it. The foccacia breakfast sandwich and the gardenkeeper fritatta are great choices.

Nothing fancy, but large portions

By RetiredTravelers61 |

The portions are HUGE. I got the pecan waffle with peach butter... yummy. Friendly, small, no frills but plenty of good cookin'. Open for breakfast and lunch, closed dinnertime. Convenient and just around the corner from Italian Market.

Delicious and different

By JohnnJack |

American breakfast, Mexican style. Everything we had was delicious. The place was empty on a Thursday morning at 8 am.

A super place

By Paul D |

Everything authentic and well-cared about, first quality, real attentiveness, down to earth, you feel like part of the neighborhood and well you should because that's where you are.

Has just the right brunch feel

By Pinkie B |

Morning Glory was my favorite brunch place in Philly until two weeks ago when it got bumped by Honey's...but I don't fault them. Coffee served in darling little steal insulated mugs. The bacon is awesome. The plates are huge (which is how brunch should be). Their vanilla waffle with whipped cream just floored me with a foodgasm, even though my typical brunch fare requires bacon, eggs and pancakes or something. For a first timer, I definitely recommend one of their fritattas. Cooper is a pleasure to watch, moving with rhythmic effortlessness in front of the fire turning raw ingredients into pure late-morning awesomeness. I definitely recommend sitting at the bar... So, all that said, there's no call ahead and the brunch rush can be intense. Be prepared to wait your turn.

No crowd but long wait to sit and eat.

By Cowboyroadwsrriors |

This is a cute, charming place. One of the first things you will see are signs that say "We have limited seating, please be mindful of the people waiting. thank you". Yet we waited a very long time and when I looked inside, there were plenty of seats. There is a very pretty, sweet hostess that will bring you coffee and take your order. I think if the rest of the staff was like her things would improve. The chefs were too busy talking to their friends to be concerned with customers. You also will never really know who your server is. They just don't seem to care at all about customers. The grits and eggs are delicious. Perfectly scrambled eggs. Everything else was just average. The biscuits are dry and sit out in the open uncovered prior to serving. Frittatas, as stated on the menu will take at least 15 minutes to cook. They will not make you an omelette. There are only 2 cooks cooking your food and there were probably 40 people in the very small place. The coffee is hot and good, but it's hard to get a refill. I like a diner style breakfast....omelette hashbrowns, hot toast or biscuits, maybe some gravy...if you're like me and want your food in a reasonable amount of time and served hot, please choose another restaurant. If you expect average or better service...this is not your place either. $28 for two people. Hope this review helps.

What a Gem

By Piggy P |

My son and I stayed in Bella Vista and visited Morning Glory for breakfast. Well what a find; the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The menu, though not large, was comprehensive with a great selection...and of course you could build your own breakfast and have it your way. The quality of the food and drink was superb. All i had was a decaff coffee which had great flavour and was served in a metal beaker. I selected the pancakes with strawberries complete with fresh cream and maple syrup and they just melted in the mouth...so tasty. portion sizes were generous and we noticed other diners selections and they looked equally as appetizing. If you are ever in Philadelphia you need to find the time to visit Sams Morning Glory, it is well worth it.

Delicious and Quaint

By CJD |

The Blueberry Cream cheese muffin is amazing! Coffee, the best and fresh squeezed orange juice, to die for! Scrabbled eggs, perfect, French toast, fluffy and tasty! Staff was attentive and courteous to all of our needs...including accommodating food allergies. Definitely go!😊

Best brunch in Bella Vista

By Seabreeze1212 |

This is our neighborhood "go to" spot for Brunch. It can get crowded after 10 am, especially on weekends, but even during the week, the restaurant is nearly always full. Outdoor seating available as well. Homey, comfortable, open kitchen dining. The have amazing coffee served in quaint little mugs (free refills) and their homemade jam is, quite possibly, my favorite thing on the Earth. Cash only (they do have an ATM) and seasonal specials.

New favorite brunch spot!

By Wander |

A group of friends and I went here and this is now one of my favorite spots in Philly. The staff was very friendly and took very good care of us. It is cash only so be aware of that before you go. They also have an ATM there I think if you don't have any on you. Definitely get a biscuit with whatever you order they're so good.

Great food!

By Bobbie B |

What a fun place to eat! Great people watching, wonderful food, good service, near the bus lines. Unless you have a refrig, plan to share plates! We walked in at 10:30am during the week, tables just turning over, so no wait.

It's a small, local joint with a great breakfast. We ate the "Green Eggs & Ham", Maple Bacon Waffles, Cremé Brûlée French Toast, & Scrambled Eggs & Bacon. All were delightful. Also had an Everything Bagel & Multi-Grain Toast. I sampled their Homemade Ketchup and found it to be very tasty. It's Highly Recommended by me!

Mixed feelings

By Christopher C |

We've eaten at Morning Glory several times now. Personally I've never been impressed with the food. I've had The breakfast burrito and the breakfast sadwich. The outside is a nice place to eat on a nice day but the inside feels very small. My partner really enjoys the homemade biskets and jam. The tin coffee cups are hipster delight.

It is cash only! But delicious breakfast spot. You have to try the Bananas-Foster French Toast special it was amazing! Took time to prepare but was worth the wait!

Come hungry

By FMD126 |

I was staying at the Bella Vista B&B (across the street from this local diner) which only offers a continental breakfast -- that's usually enough for me. But on the day I was leaving Philadelphia, I knew I had a long trip ahead of me and would want something substantial for breakfast. The Morning Glory was the perfect place to go. My breakfast was not only delicious, it filled me up until I got home at dinner time! I came at 9 a.m. on a weekday morning and there were still plenty of tables available. I ordered the daily scramble (turkey sausage, jack cheese, and onions the day I visited), and got a plateful of tasty food. I got grits on the side which were just OK (I lived in the south for a long time, and I like my grits creamier than this), but the side of cooked apples was perfect, and the huge biscuit was legendary (in fact, I had the other half for breakfast the next day at home). The servers were friendly and attentive. What a great find this neighborhood diner was! I look forward to coming back someday with my breakfast-loving husband. There are more things on the menu I'd like to try!

What a neat place!

By mrssoprano1 |

Such a surprise. A good one for sure. Small, small place. But the staff is so efficient and friendly. The chefs pump the food out quickly. Every plate that passed by looked like I wanted it. My daughter had the burrito which was tasty and plentiful. My egg and scrapple were served on foccacia. We shared a warm biscuit, so good. We had two stainless steel containers (one had jam and the other cool butter) on the table to eat with the biscuit. Nice place.

Very political

By Conservative A |

Food was average. Atmosphere was hostile with political signs in window. Very obvious you are not welcome if you don't share their views. They seem to think that all persons not aligned with their values have no values. Pretty sure they won't care if a conservative person needed help, they would probably spit on them.

Best food we had in Philly!

By DoctorDoctor585 |

A wonderful breakfast for our whole family. We had a short wait (about 10 minutes) until we got a table. The neighborhood frittatta was the best I have ever had and the monkey bread was amazing as well. Don't miss this place! We will definitely be back next time we're in Philly.

Fluffiest biscuits in the city. get the eggs and a side for about $10, which is a bit above cheap breakfasts, but this place is worth it for the experience. Always busy, right on the corner. Enjoy!

Best Diner I've ever been to - Morning Glory is a must for me every time I'm in Philadephia

By rorosan777 |

A Philadelphia institution, Morning Glory is a must for me every time I visit Philadelphia. One of the best diners in the US and has been rated so as well. Pros: - Amazing menu and specials. Truly creative and delicious. Everytime I go there is something new to try on the menu and its always good. - Great quality - everything is cooked fresh in front of you. Most folks have been working there for many years so the quality is highly consistent any time you visit. Everything is fresh or made in house (e.g. their ketchup is house made and totally delicious even for someone like me who doesn't like ketchup usually) - Excelled down to earth service. - Great prices. Cons: - the place is small and very popular so you are likely to wait some Highly recommend. Will always keep coming back.

Love it, love it, love it!

By It’s meee |

Ok, they make their own ketchup. End of review. Anyway, I love it here. Dining here is always a pleasure. The food is wonderful, comforting, real, plentiful, afforable, etc., etc., etc. which means there's usually a wait...but it's well worth it. Their eggs, french toast, waffles, grits and homemade biscuits are to die for and they serve a delicious brand of yogurt. Just go and see for yourself. It's amazing. Great coffee and jam, too.

This place is great. Food is outstanding. Large portions, tasty recipes and attentive service. Equally good for breakfast or lunch. Only accept cash so be prepared. Will return often when in Philadelphia.

Where the locals go

By parisloversinphilly |

I've lived in Philly for over 10 years. This is our go-to breakfast place and deserves every award for dining. Their frittatas are by far the best you'll find. Making their own ketchup, every potato and egg combo is delightful. They serve their own brand of coffee in stainless steel mugs, bringing out the flavor. Stuffed French toast, oatmeal and fruit, fritattas, pancakes. They put care into every single thing you eat. And if you're there for lunch, you will not have better macaroni and cheese anywhere. It is amazing. I encourage you to find out why we locals keep going back to this place...it's unlike any diner you'll ever find.

Huge and tasty

By krys_k |

Came here on a recommendation. I liked this place as it reminded me of the kind of diners I'd seen many times in films and TV back in Europe - just the look sold me. My single order was huge. A full to the brim frittata (greens, potato, ham), door stop of a biscuit (tastes like an English scone) with homemade jam, grits (that I poured the baked cinnamon apples into) and homemade ketchup. I gotta say that I didn't leave hungry. The only sour note was that the freshly squeezed orange juice wasn't (Tropicana or similar).

As many others have stated; fun, yummie, and local breakfast spot. Coffee and biscuits are very good. Outdoor seating is interesting but fun. Definitely will be back sometime this month again.

Amazing pancakes / waffles here!

By Eugene W |

I recently visited friends in Philly and my buddy told me about this place and how good it was. He wasn't wrong. It was so good in fact that we ate here twice. Once for lunch and once for breakfast. On our lunch visit I had a veggie burger on pita bread. It was possibly the best veggie burger I've ever tasted. For breakfast the next day I had a whole wheat pancake with strawberries, white chocolate and whipped cream. It was in a word: outstanding! My friend had a lemon waffle that was also amazing. This place is very small and gets busy fast. I loved the layout of the place but my only complaint would be with the so-so service. On both occasions the service was average at best. Still, with food this good and such a cool little hole in the wall I can forgive this to a certain extent. In fact, I plan on going here again on my next visit to Philly. Great food and worth the visit for sure.

Short visit to this small friendly diner. The staff were all so welcoming and helpful, a really nice and casual atmosphere.

Condescending jerk of a waiter.. avoid the place!

By tcr222555 |

I left just a 10% tip, b/c the waiter was a condescending jerk.. As I walked down the street, after paying the bill, the waiter yelled at me, down the street.. And he wonders why he only got 10% on my breakfast order..?!? Avoid that place.. Go to Silk City!

OMG

By Marcia B |

I ate at Morning Glory Diner a few years ago while on a business trip and just had to come back with my husband and let him experience it. I had the Monkey Bread French toast with carmelized bananas and mango embarrassed to say I was moaning with pleasure as I ate it! My husband had the pumpkin French toast which was simpler but delicious as well. Both were served with lots of homemade whipped cream. They have freshly squeezed orange juice and so many other dishes served to other diners. I only wish I could have casually strolled through the restaurant trying other people’s meals if I could have!:). Portions are generous. What a great meal!! Don’t even think about not going! It’s great.

Never Again

By Chemistry_Geek |

My partner and I were warned by the hotel staff not to bother with this place, her exact words were "they're not quite human in there", however as it was just across the road we thought we'd give it a try. We regretted it almost immediately. We walked in and no-one looked up to seat us so we just grabbed a table ourselves as it wasn't busy. After 5 mins no-one had come over to see if we wanted coffee or even acknowledged us-even though there was a member of staff (maybe the owner?) at the counter. So thinking maybe we had to order at the counter my partner got up to get a menu. When he got to the counter and took one the guy there said he'd bring menu's over in a min but as my partner was already holding one he said "don't worry I've got it". The guy at the counter looked disgusted as though we'd committed the worst faux pas ever and from then on he was rude, very cold and we felt very unwelcome. When asking what a couple of things were on the menu he rolled his eyes and got very irritated. In the end we ordered quickly (though I wish now we'd just left) and tried to get out fast. There was a sign hanging in the window right behind us that said "Be nice or leave" which made us feel like we were responsible and weren't welcome. The food was OK, nothing special, prices seemed average. At the end, after a miserable 40 mins, we paid the bill and left, taking the check with us not realising we were meant to ask for a copy. We got half way down the road when the guy starting yelling to us down the street asking angrily if we'd taken it. We explained we didn't know we weren't meant to but he wasn't interested. So we had to walk back behind him to get a copy feeling highly embarrassed. We would never go there again after that experience. Instead we went to Sabrinas which was wonderful!!

Warm, Filling and Quick

Morning Glory is not the kind of place to go and linger - there are signs everywhere reminding you that there is a line outside so move along. That brusqueness aside, Morning Glory is a great place for breakfast and for lunch. The coffee is hot and endless, the homemade ketchup is delicious, the cheek by jowl seating is comfortable, the view out the window is ever changing and the staff is professional, competent and nice. Be aware - you will wait for 30-45 minutes if you go on a weekend morning. During the week there is seldom a line. So what should you have? Well, if you like biscuits get anything that comes with one of their HUGE and yummy, 1/4 of a plate sized biscuits. My kids love their berry biscuit - imagine a huge biscuit dripping with berries and then smothered with whipped creme - that is exactly what will arrive at the table...I bet you eat every last bite. Try the Waldorf Chicken Salad - delicious; the half pound burger - also delicious; the frittatas - huge and yummy...Actually, try anything on the menu and you will be happy. Say hi for me when you go!

Disgusting! We were seated at the counter, which was perfectly fine with us, BUT we got to witness the food preparation! I was brought a coffee in a cute metal tin but looked inside to see an oil slick. I watched as a food preparer put waffles together with his hands then wipe them on a dirty apron and put another together. I left $5 on the counter and we left.

Lots of Food

By retiredfrwork |

My cousin and I spent the day in Philadelphia Saturday and she suggested we eat here. She has been here before and this was a perfect choice. I had the monkey bread French toast that was delicious. It had plenty of bananas and mango fruit in it. My cousin had one of the breakfast specials that came with eggs and crab cakes. We split our breakfasts and I have never had a crab cake as delicious as this one. The potatoes were yummy and what was a plus is my French toast was served with homemade whipped cream. A nice added touch to a great breakfast. Good thing we got here early for the restaurant is small and by the time we left there was a long line of people waiting for a table in the cold.

Very Satisfying Breakfast

I stopped here for breakfast while exploring the neighborhood, and was very pleased with the entire experience. The eggs and potatoes dish that I had was a very generous amount and kept me going the rest of the day.

Upscale Neighborhood Diner

By Gamberioni |

I'd return. Generous portions, great house made biscuits, good service. I enjoyed a special frittata but I'm sure whatever they put out is tasty. They're not giving it away but with the portion sizes you get what you pay for. The only comment I have is I just don't think in a world with Heinz ketchup you need to make your own. The house made ketchup was good but it's hard to improve on perfection.

Worth the wait

By Barbara S |

Recently had breakfast here on a Sunday morning while visiting Philadelphia. There was a wait but in the outdoor waiting area there was a nice gas fire pit that helped take away the chill. Being that this was for breakfast, the turn-over was fast so the wait was not long. I have to agree that it was a very satisfying breakfast/brunch and different (although you can get simple dishes too). My only complaint is that the restaurant is tiny which lends itself to being very loud. If you are sensitive to noise, be aware. Otherwise - go and enjoy !

Small Place, Great Food!

By HeatherS_216_07 |

Morning Glory was referred to me by a friend. It's a small place on a corner, not much to look at, but the food was great! The meals come with a lot of food for the price. They also have a patio area to eat outside, which I did on a beautiful October day. I went during the week around 11:30, so there was no wait. The wait staff was very friendly and also very accommodating for my son's food allergies. I can't wait to go back!

One of the best breakfast places in Philly

By bjmiller51 |

The Morning Glory Diner is one our favorite places to eat in Philly when we visit. In the heart of a charming residential neighborhood near South Street, it is usually quite a wait to enter on the weekends, so we generally visit during the week. We have sat at the bar or at tables, service is always attentive. The locals love this place. The food is fresh, much of it is organic and local. The restaurant is no frills, authentic where the food and its preparation is paramount......a can't miss in Philly.

Comfortable, homey, interesting and super good food

By mama's cat |

We went to both Sabrina's and Morning Glory (across the street from our B&B). Sabrina's is good, but Morning Glory is wonderful. My husband went on a weekday morning and had no wait, but we had to wait about 40 minutes on a Saturday, because we got there around 8:30 and the first crowd had just been seated. That was no problem...had no schedule, but I wouldn't attempt it if you are in a hurry. We sat at the counter and enjoyed watching the articulate waffle/pancake gal and the frittata guys. It was a huge, nicely cooked meal and very good coffee. The metal cups add to the ambiance...this is not the Ritz. I wish I lived there, as it would be a frequent destination for both breakfast and lunch. The young man next to me had a BLT that tempted me. Well, next time! The service was friendly and efficient. I really liked the casual atmosphere. Guess I don't mind waiting and watching, if the food is worth it. This is!

Great Brunch in South Philly

One great brunch. Fun, high-energy place with top quality food. Blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup are great and so is the Foccacia breakfast sandwich. Coffee is served in big tin mugs - brilliant!

Excellent Brunch--Well Worth the Wait

By treasuresgirl |

With a long (30-40 minute) Sunday morning wait and a no-frills wait staff, this place is not for the faint of heart, but for fresh and DELICIOUS homemade fare, from the mammoth biscuits, to the ketchup and the whipped cream, this place cannot be beat. Don't understand the negative reviews about staff and service. Once seated, we were served quickly and efficiently by at least two servers, and this was a superbusy Sunday @noon! Honey's Sit n' Eat is our usual go-to Philly breakfast place, but now it's going to be tough to choose.

A greasy spoon with surly service. How utterly disappointed we were! We'll go back to our regular weekend spots in the neighborhood - Fitzwater Cafe (7th & Fitzwater) and Sabrina's (9th & Catharine), and we'd recommend either if you're visiting from out of town and looking for a good Bella Vista spot. Don't waste your time waiting for a table at Morning Glory!

The highlight of our trip!

By Lorraine B |

Customers place their name on a list and are called when a place is available. We had gotten there around 10 AM for breakfast. We were all blown away by the breakfast orders that we had. My sister was particularly happy with the burrito omelet. I had poached eggs, bacon, everything bagel, veggie cream cheese..It was all perfect. We had sat outdoor but it got very hot and we asked if we could move to the indoor. There was nothing available at the time, but then the owner came out and said that she had a table that cleared and wanted to move us inside. We were so grateful, what a neat place with a great owner and staff.

Very casual scene. Friendly service. Tasty coffee. Great food. Our table had waffles, frittata, breakfast burrito and pancakes. Served promptly, coffee kept hot and food was great. Brunch for four came to $62 without tip. In its own special way, it's the complete package. Thanks!

Not your Ordinary Diner

Great place to go for breakfast. Lots of locals. Easy to park during the week. Fantastic Menu, large portions. Excellent food. The home fries were warm, I would have liked them hot. I can pass on the homemade catsup. Not a deal breaker, I'll be back.

Absolutely loved it!

By Chris B |

From the service, to the wonderful menu variety, I could not have been happier with this place. The food was definitely much better than diner quality and the prices were very reasonable given the portion sizes. There was a short wait to get in, which is a good sign, but as long as you are willing to be flexible with the type of seating you want the line moves rather quickly. Our party had the Ham, Mushroom and Swiss Frittata, Neighborhood Frittata and Lemon, Blueberry and Thyme pancakes. All more amazing than the next. We all loved the coffee as well. Great, balanced taste and hot! The owner was our server and she was simply a delight. It's obvious her goal was to provide an excellent dining experience...and she certainly did just that! Kudos on a job very well done.

It was early before 9am on a Sunday and the place was getting full. We got seats at the counter and within 10 minutes the whole place was packed. Sitting at the counter we had THE BEST show in town because when someone is in love with making food it's art. There was a guy at one griddle making some of the most freshest fruit pancakes ever and another guy at the griddle in front of us whipping up egg masterpieces that either went out as a traditional breakfast platter or become some amazing tortilla. We ordered a traditional platter with bacon and turkey sausage, potatoes and well biscuits that... well.. are defying words - let's just say I attempted to take mine home but it lasted about no minutes once I got there. My partner got scrambled, I got over easy, we both couldn't believe how fresh, tasty.... we're taking eggs and yet....and amazing bacon. I always hope I get bacon like that and finally I did. I regret not stuffing all the potatoes down my throat because now I miss them - but the food was so good that you couldn't just mindlessly eat. So I got full before I wanted to. They also had homemade ketchup, which redefined what ketchup could be and do to a meal. Great stuff. Coffee was fresh and big and smooth and rich. And the staff was great - committed to making good food and taking no bull. Several of them were wearing tee shirts that said "Be Nice or Leave". This is not a place to have attitude. This is a place to have spectacular food. Clearly, from watching the four or five staff folk maneuvering around one another to make that food, they take it seriously and with passion. Bulls#)&$* has no place in a place like that. I have to thank the owner for pouring my coffee into a container to go and topping it off. We were so tight for time and she saw me trying to gulp it down. This is truly a real diner.

Best biscuit I've ever had

I highly recommend getting any breakfast/brunch item with the biscuit attached. Over the summer I got the fruit with fresh whipped cream and a biscuit. It was heaven. I still think back fondly on those precious moments I had with that biscuit.

Brunch with a Bunch

We walked in and were surprised to find several tables available. The expected wait - waited for us. We were seated immediately. A great choice of food - served hot - in a friendly atmosphere. We felt sorry for the folks queueing in the outdoor garden as it was very chilly. We were content and full - ready to start our day of exploring.

Peaceful breakfast!

By Laura C |

Such a wonderful neighborhood find! Service very welcoming and it was a beautiful day to sit on the patio for breakfast. I ordered a ‘plain Jane’ eggs and sausage as I’m not a big fan of breakfast. They offered a fruit bowl which was exceptional; no nasty melon - banana, ripe strawberries, mango (!) and blueberries. YUM! I saw and read many creative yummy sweet and savory treats, but I didn’t indulge. Everyone seemed to be happy though… As for the political signs, well that’s the vibe and personality! Im pretty sure no one would engage with you on politics unless you went there first. No one said a thing to me politically, even tho I would have welcomed it. And everyone was falling over themselves to take care that I enjoyed my meal. Very different than the self named ‘Fort Republican’ biker bar near my house in upstate NY- very angry vibes there, vs this peaceful oasis.

Unique and Fresh

By OTR1937 |

Anytime we are in Philly or just passing through, this spot ends up on the itinerary. The food is unique, fresh and very good. The grits can be hit or miss but other than that the food had been consistently good. I have also had good and pleasant service. It is a down to earth place; prima donnas may not be impressed. My only suggestion is that the place needs a decor upgrade; nothing fancy but the holes in booth cushions are not cool. I hope to get back soon.

Great neighborhood diner food in a laidback setting

By Kreskin2207 |

It's a diner and a lot of people know about it. If you don't get here before 9:30 on the weekends be prepared to wait. You sign in when you get there on the pad by the door then wait, patiently, for a table or bar seat. I have always read and heard that the service is surly but we had no problems. Everyone was friendly and helpful and our coffee cups stayed full the entire meal. We didn't sit and wait to order, our food didn't take forever, we paid promptly, everything was great. The food was good as well. I had the crab cakes with lemon caper sauce and eggs over medium. The portion size was amazing and well worth the $12 I spent. The biscuit was huge as well and the blueberry jam on the table....I wanted to smuggle it out. My wife opted for the standard breakfast but there was nothing standard about the bacon. You can tell that there's more to this bacon than the cheap, generic, off-the-delivery truck bacon you get at most diners. I'm happy to have finally gotten to Sam's and I look forward to returning. My only problem...I sleep late...often...

I ate brunch at Morning Glory with my friends a few weekends ago. We got there around 11am and had a bit of a wait, maybe 15-30 minutes. There is outdoor seating and indoor. It's a small place so I expect they usually have a wait for brunch but the staff clearly work very hard so it shouldn't be too long/you cant get angry at them. I had the creme brulee style challah french toast (came with thick whipped cream) which was insanely delicious and very rich so I felt like I never wanted to eat again afterward. I was a little disappointed by how big the portion seemed at first (didn't seem like much, especially since it was kind of expensive) but I was so stuffed afterwards. My friends got dishes that included eggs, potatoes, and toast and they had HUGE portions. Great trip all around.

Dan and I had brunch here once. The wait took a little bit, but it was a Saturday morning and the food was pretty good.

Not your average breakfast at Sam's Morning Glory.

By andrearoy |

Our group of 6 had breakfast at Sam's Morning Glory diner in July, 2010. There was a wait, but it was a Saturday morning, so we had expected this. There is a small waiting area outside with tables and chairs and it was nice not to have to stand around for the entire time. Because we were a party of 6, our wait was about a half hour. We did see many parties of 4 or less being seated within minutes. Once seated, it was well worth the wait. Food was amazing! A word of warning - the portions are huge. If we had ordered half the stuff we did, I am still not sure if we could have finished it. Coffee and biscuits were amazing. The Monkey Frech Toast was wonderful, but more like a giant dessert than a breakfast. Our server was awesome and our food came out pretty quickly. We can't wait to return to this place.

You'd Better Be Hungry

By TrayBN |

I am kind of surprised at some of the poor ratings I've seen here for this place. I ran across it in the recent Philadelphia magazine issue on Brunches so my wife and I thought we'd give it a try. It was Saturday morning, the place is small and their food is awfully good ... so of course you can expect to wait for a seat (duh). We waited about 1/2 hour but spent part of that time talking with others who had the same idea we had. It was drizzly but that din't stop people from signing the wait list and hunkering down under the umbrella'd tables outside. We sat at the counter and our waitress was great. The frittatas looked good so we ordered one with smoked salmon & goat cheese the other with Italian sausage and vegetables (they warn you that it's about a 15 min. wait for these). You'd better be hungry. You get a huge frittata, plus a bread (or bagel in my case), home fries and a small side of baked apple pieces (like apple pie w/o the crust). I liked a lot of the little things ... the butter pats that were not as hard as a brick, the blackberry jam, the endless coffee, the generous serving of cream cheese to go with my bagel, watching the grill and stove cooks working together like a well-oiled machine. And even though we had to wait to get in, then wait for our food, and the line outside had gotten even longer than when we arrived, we were never rushed. If I had one complaint it might be the noise level. With so many people having such a good time in such a small space it's unavoidable. We will definitely come back here the next time we are in Philly.

Local food in a diner at its BEST. Homemade and cooked to order.

By 3Gtraveler |

Breakfast & Lunch. Get there early. Be prepared to wait on weekends and holidays. Sitting at the counter is an experience...Line cooks are at the top of their game. Each order is well presented AND as ordered. Specials are both appetitizing and appealing. Imaginative omlet and frittatas combinations ans well as waffle and pancake with a variety of fruits. Coffee served in metal cups stays hot and is better than average. Tight space but well worth the wait.

BISCUITS!

By Marie S |

Great Diner Experience. Come for the metal coffee mugs stay for the amazing food. Their Biscuits served with fresh perserve's are a must have as well as all of their traditional diner fare. Homemade ketchup and overall tasty treats abound. They venture out of the ordinary with their specials but I'd stick to their traditional fare. Bring Cash as they don't accept cards.

Morning Glory for sure!

By SkipNJ |

I thought Sam's Morning Glory Diner was great! You can't have great expectations going into this place. I found the counter seating, metal coffee cups and no frills atmosphere charming. The food was good and the service was acceptable. No one was rude to us as some other reviewers have noted. There is a sign on the door stating they were rated highly by a group called Not For Tourists, so I can see where some people traveling might not have felt welcome, but we had no problems and we came from New Jersey. I would definitely visit there again. Expect to wait for a table on the weekend, but I think it's worth it. www.houseofskip.com

Best breakfast EVER

By nikkidefazio |

I love this place! I used to live 10 minutes outside Philly so it was the best place to go on a weekend morning, and now that I live an hour away I still make the trek to go on a nice Sunday. Expect to wait for a while, and there is no waiting area inside. If it is a nice day out, it's nice to grab one of the outside tables and sit in the sun, or take a walk around the neighborhood. South Street provides more than enough distraction. Inside it is small, and you sit pretty close to the other tables, but once the food comes, who cares! I usually order off of the daily specials menu, and I've never been disappointed. EVER. The coffee is delicious, too. I wish they accepted credit cards, but that's the ONLY complaint I have.

Good Breakfast

By h2oworks2000 |

Always crowded but we were able, on a very busy Saturday at around noon, to walk in and be seated. We just had simple eggs and sausage, toast and potatoes. The sausage patty was very good, the eggs good and as ordered, the toast wonderful whole grain type, even the white. The potatoes, we thought were a bit dry. These are not home fries but rather red potatoes which appeared to be sauteed and baked. with subtle herbs and spices, tasty but dry. We really should have wanted a bigger breakfast because there are some wows! on the menu. The patrons were mostly young 20's/30/s and hip but a few inter-generational folks. Not a place for children. This is serious breakfast/brunch. Everyone seems to understand you do not hang around for a leisurely sit and eat and chat but rather a place to have a great breakfast and get on with your great day. Wait staff was on the ball with coffee and all else.

A True Gem

By mmbarb |

I used to live in Philly, and would pass by this spot countless times, searching for great brunch/breakfast. Every time I would pass by, there would be a line out the door, and usually a good sized crowd waiting on their patio. I've since moved out to the suburbs, but found myself back around the neighborhood on a Wednesday afternoon. I drove past Morning Glory, and there was no line! I took that as a cue to go in. I'm so glad I did! It wasn't just me either, I was with my husband, our three year old son, and our twin infants (both in their infant carriers). We were greeted by friendly staff, and shown to a table that fit us all. They gave my son a whole box of crayons and a stack of paper on which to draw. He was smitten. My attention fell on the menu. There were a few selections that caught my eye, such as the grilled ribeye with two eggs, the breakfast burrito, and the challah french toast. I decided on the breakfast burrito with sausage. My husband ordered two eggs sunny side up, scrapple (it's a PA thing), rye toast, and grits. Our son got the grilled cheese. I was starving, so I also decided to start off with an order of their hummus with grilled pita. I have to say...all of it was delicious. The hummus was fresh and just right, served with plenty of warm, grilled pita triangles and roasted peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes. It definitely hit the spot. Our breakfast dishes came out shortly thereafter, and all was delicious. Seriously, I don't give good reviews on a whim. My burrito had a red chile sauce on top, which gave it a nice spicy flavor...although I think it might have been the poblanos inside the burrito which gave it the real kick. The portion was super filling and the flavor was top notch. I chose to add the breakfast sausage in it, and I'm glad I did. The potatoes were good, but not real breafast like, if you are used to home fries. I liked them though...as they were seasoned perfectly. My husband's food was cooked to order, and the scrapple was nice and thin. If you know what scrapple is, you'll appreciate that this place slices it thin, and cooks it crispy on the outside. My sons grilled cheese also came with the potatoes (which he didn't want), but he ate about 3/4th of the sandwich. If you have a youngster, you'll also know that this is a feat - to get them to eat most of their meal! The wait staff was friendly and attentive, never letting our glasses stay or get empty for long. What I really liked about them all was that they were kind to our son. Some places you go to, restaurant staff want to hide or run in the other direction when they see kids come through the door. Here, their attitudes were just as superb as their food! I regret not coming by and waiting my turn while I lived in they city, but I'm so glad we decided to drive by and give it another shot this past week. Timing is everything!

Great breakfast spot. Went twice during the week we were vacationing in Philadelphia. First time both had egg dishes and the second we tried the french toast and the pancakes. The first trip was a very busy Saturday morning. The place was hopping but service was still friendly and efficient. Food came out quickly. My ‘frittata’ was an egg dishes cooked in a pan that came out very fluffy and delicious. My husband had the corned beef hash. Different than he is used to but said it was very good. Both egg dishes came with huge biscuits and there was a homemade mixed berry jam that visit that was to die for. Next visit we had the ‘sweet’ side of the menu. I dream of their biscuits

By 729ashleyr |

Without a question, these are the best biscuits that I have ever had. I have searched throughout the country, and have not found one that I like more than this, even in the south. It is a cute, small diner. Space is at a premium, so if you plan on lingering, or not waiting, best go during the week. During the weekend, you will be asked to leave after eating. During, the week, they will keep refilling your coffee all day long. In addition to the home made biscuits, they also make the jam and ketchup. The jam is already on the table, and not all tables have the same jam. It changes frequently. The frittatas are huge and excellent. They have a few recommended frittatas, or you can create your own. Either way, it is made to order and comes with potatoes or grits and a biscuit. The portions are huge! Service is always friendly. But if they need your table, and you are done, go and enjoy the rest of your day elsewhere.

Nothing bothers me more than places that do not carry heinz ketchup. When I get my hash browns or eggs i want that old 57 on there. not something homemade. Would not go back because of this, although the food is good. Try Sabrina's way better!

Breakfast as it’s supposed to be

We were told to go because it’s one of the dying breed of Philly diners...def worth it! Short cab ride out of centre city and in early September (weekday so no line up). It’s not fancy (but the metal coffee mugs are way cool) but solid, hearty food cooked fresh. Great Latino/a twist on a number of dishes but the day we visited the red, white and blue pancakes were a hit! Biscuits are unusual but unusually good (and big) with great coffee. Service is efficient and food is served with a lot of smiles! CASH ONLY.

Fresh, Homemade Breakfast

In Philly for 24 hours and happened upon Morning Glory while looking for another breakfast location and decided to give it a try. While relatively small, There is ample seating both inside and out. We arrive at 830a on a Saturday and were seated immediately. The Wait staff were friendly and efficient. Everything we ordered (eggs, fruit, biscuits) was freshly prepared and very tasty for what I thought was a very reasonable price. To top it off, the coffee was outstanding, which I find unusual for most breakfast/ diner locations in this price range. I would highly recommend and would visit again!

Delish! Fresh and fabulous!

Stumbled upon this lovely place with girlfriends. What a wonderful find. It was packed. Everything was very fresh and the food was spectacular. Worth finding this gem and getting there early for a table.

Great place for breakfast

Be ready to wait if you are coming around typical meal times. It's a small place with large portions. We'll be back again to try other menu items.

Visiting family in Philly . Stopped in for lunch. Always able to get breakfasts. Great pancakes and French toast. Coffee in metal mugs and quick refills. Service is top notch. Prices are reasonable and portions are large. Brought half of my meal home. All time Philly favorite. Parking on street not a problem. Love this place.

Nice breakfast spot

Morning Glory is located on the corner of Fitzwater and 10th street. Get there before 9am for breakfast on weekends, if not you will be waiting 30 mins to sit down and people wait for it. They have great frittatas and breakfast burritos.

No complaints here.. Beyond satisfied!!!

First time visiting this place. My husband and I spend our 2nd wedding anniversary in Philly. And since we are both foodies, we want to make sure we read up about the places we are going to visit to expect good experience. We got there around noon and it was brunch time. There was a wait so I was a bit nervous whether we are going to get seated anytime soon since I'm starving! When you get there, you have to go at the back entrance to sign in. There were about 5 people ahead of us. They give you options whether you would want to be seated outside, inside or whatever comes first. We opted inside because it was already hot outside. It must have been about 10-15 minutes and we got called already. Happy about that. The place is a bit bigger than hole in a wall but if you don't mind that then you are good to go. We were shown where we were going to be seated and immediately asked what to drink which was a plus. Then a few minutes our order was taken. I ordered the monkey french toast as I heard raves about it. My husband ordered the frittata that had andouille sausage in it and opted to get grits instead of potatoes and toast. I also ordered a side of poatoes to see ifi would like their hash. The food did not come right away just like what some rviewers claim but I would say within reasonable time. I really liked my french toast presentation. It also came with homemade peach whipped cream and pure maple syrup. When I finally tasted it, what can i say? It was heaven!!! I didnt have to put a lot of syrup on it. A hint of syrup, whipped cream, and french toast that had fresh bananas and mangoes!! Somehow the taste of magoes totally worked well with the bananas that you will not feel the "too sweet" part of it and toally just balanced everything. I must say this is the first time I've ever tasted a french toast that I can finsh the whole entire serving! It was deliscious to thr max!!! Moving on to the hash.. Well another hit for me! The rosemary totally made the taste unusual but in a really excellent way. They make their ketchup from scratch so it worked well with the hash. My husand's frittata was also really good. The andouille sausage totally made it extra special. The grits were also on point. The consistency of it was perfect. Not too thick or runny. So overall I cant wait to go back and try other dishes from there. Unfortunately it would have to be on my next Philly visit:)

Crappy Service

It took more than 30 minutes before we reminded our waiter (the one who seated us and served our coffee and o.j.) that we were ready to order our food. He replied " Oh, he hasn't taken your order yet?", then casually grabbed a pen from his pocket and said "Well, what would you like?" If we had known that it would be another hour and fifteen minutes before we saw any food, we would have just asked for the check. Nobody apologized for any of our wait time, even as we watched people getting served who arrived after us. The waiters are rude and inattentive (and possibly racist). Don't do it!!

Best Breakfast Ever!

By Chelsea B |

This little diner is perfect if you're feeling something homemade and different! I got the neighborhood frittata and it was delicious! It was almost like an egg omelet with peppers, spinach and cheese mixed in. I ate it with their homemade ketchup, which was a little sweet with a tiny bit a heat and I loved it! My friend had the Monkey French Toast, with caramelized bananas and mangos topped with caramel sauce and thick whipped cream! Both my friend and I agreed this was the best breakfast we've ever experienced!

Great breakfast, good lunch.

I visit every time I come to Philly but a few days ago when I was there I saw the server lady use her hand to grab a biscuit and put it on my plate. She later used that same hand to cash me out. Utterly grossed out. Not sure I will ever return. Otherwise their food is awesome, everything is homemade and tastes so good.
