Used to be good but it’s gone downhill.

By Devilsdixie |

I’ve been here before but it was about 8 years ago and it was great. But what we had was not at all good. I got the chicken stir fry bowl with green curry. The portion was a good size, a nice mix of veggies, there were long strips of cold carrots on top that was odd, but sadly it was completely tasteless. My son had GF Mac n cheese and it was a bit bland and pretty watery. I’m not sure what happened to this place but I won’t visit again.

Loved so much!

By Karen M |

Go to Mother's for breakfast. It's just that good. Either get a reservation or go right before 9 so you can get a table. We loved it so much - out of 3 mornings, we went there TWICE! The biscuits and gravy were out of this world! The mimosas (just get the double - you know you want to) with just a splash of strawberry were pretty to look at and better to drink. My husband loved his bloody mary. Other winners: corned beef and hash, eggs benedict (Sunday), omelet of the day (whatever it is - it's good). If you go - tell Carter that Karen sent you! He was the best!!

Very nice place in a world of hurt

By Brad R |

Meh. Don’t go here for dinner. After you wade through the homeless people cussing at you, the restaurant is very nice. But I can make better chicken and dumplings and meatloaf, and I don’t cook. I can’t believe this place is rated #9 in Portland. I assume this is for breakfast/brunch? If you are not staying at the hotel here, I would just stay away. The Portland mayor and his staff really need to get something done here. I have been paying a lot of money on new taxes to fix the “homeless problem”. And what did they do? They sent me a huge content free very expensive pamphlet. What a waste of my money. WHAT ARE YOU ACTUALLY DOING TO HELP THESE PEOPLE????

Beautiful place, good food

By Suszanne M |

The restaurant was decorated beautifully. I had a quinoa salad and it was very good. The reason for only 4 stars is their wait system. We were told it would be a 30 minute wait, they asked for a phone number so they could text us when our table is ready. So we went outside with the kids and waited walked across the street to Stumptown to get A cup of coffee. While at the coffee shop, we received a text saying table is ready, so we immediately went back took us about 3 minutes to cross the street. When we got there they said, because we weren’t in the building when they texted us, they gave the table to someone else, so we ended up waiting another 20 minutes. Don’t leave, is all I can say for customers, and as far as the restaurant I say, you need a better system.

Mother’s Finest

By isabill |

Oh my, what a lovely meal we had. We made a reservation for 7:15 one week night and were promptly seated. Our server was a delight (blonde white lady originally from the southeast) and helped us with our selections. For a starter, we shared the calamari- the best I’ve had in a long time. The bread and biscuits melted in our mouths. Hubby had the pot roast - “like buttah.” I shared the salmon with our daughter. It, too, was good, a little well done but still very good. For dessert we all shared the sorbet trio which included a fabulous pear flavor. Service was very attentive, and the decor is quite charming. My family and I agree this was one of our favorite meals in Portland.

Delicious

By mafutagirl38 |

Interesting decor, I liked how hit it was. The fried chicken was not greasy and still crunchy and juicy on n the middle. The Moscow mule was a little sour But once I had half of it life just felt so much nicer😁. Our waiter was delightful . Mother came to greet us. It was a good experience

YUM!

By DrSandy13 |

I have Celiac and having gluten-free options is necessary for me. This place was amazing. So many GF options and everything I tasted was delicious! Thank you, Mother's!

Second time was a charm

By Bill Y |

Ate here on our last visit to Portland and wanted to go back since it was close to our hotel. They had moved to a new location and we weren't sure it was the same place. Once we went inside and sat down, everything came back and the new location had the same old charm. The menu was great and the restaurant quiet enough to have a nice conversation. The service was just as good. Make sure you save room for desert.

Best Migas!

By Shelly B |

Great place to go for breakfast or brunch. The Migas are so yummy! Nice vintage building too. Good outing!

Great breakfast at a reasonable price!

By leet |

We went to Mothers for breakfast and it fantastic! Everything can be ordered in half-sized portions and there is a wide selection. The crunchy challah French toast was AMAZING! Friend service as well! We’ll be back!

Why Have I Never Come Here before?!?

By Bryan H |

We were desperate! The restaurant we had intended to go to was closed for Labor Day, and we sort of stumbled upon Mother's. In all my years in Portland, for some reason I had never visited this icon. We were sensitively seated off to the side (which we loved!) and the service was professional and efficient throughout. My partner ordered off the small plates menu (and had more than enough to eat), and I ordered the Mac and Cheese (disappointing in both portion and taste). We were pleased to have bread to tide us over until the main course was there. The special cocktail was tasty, though expensive for what one got. And for some reason most of what was on the special menu was no longer available -- although we were there early and not late at night?!? The decor was homey, over the top and inviting. I can't wait to come back when the weather gets cold and I'm in the mood for something comforting and warm!

Lunch here with friends to celebrate a birthday

By akdouglas |

A beloved Portland restaurant for decades, Mothers really pulls out all the stops in its beautiful new location. Frequently packed during weekday lunches (about the only time I’ve been) I highly recommend it for the pickiest of eaters. Huge menu and large portions.

Theres something for everyone

By AlexisRF |

Ive been living here in PDX for almost 2 years and ive always ignored this place because I try to avoid touristy restaurants. BIG MISTAKE. Yes this is touristy but its also a place that locals would love. There's everything for everyone. My mother in law is super picky (think 4 year old kid) while we are super healthy eaters so to find a place that satisfies both is close to impossible. This place has an extensive menu. We came down for dinner and our server Jessica is excellent. She's a rarity in Portland where service is a bit laid back and bluntly a bit lazy and entitled at times. She was very engaging and super helpful. The restaurant had their AC in full blast even when the temps outside were a bit cool and we told her about it and she took care of it. Her understanding on the menu was pretty good and her recommendations were appreciated. We ordered the fish of the day which was Snapper and it was cooked and seasoned very well. My mother in law really loved her meat balls. We love this place so much that we decided to have brunch the next day. The ambiance is casual elegance, not too loud. I give this place 5 stars because all the aspects of this restaurants are well rated plus it really is a good value for your money. I will be a return customer and I highly recommend this place. Make sure you make reservations unless you are prepared to wait.

Just like mother used to make, really

By Leslie J |

So, I dug into my food and then remembered that my mother really wasn't a great cook. She was ok, with some good dishes. Hah. Good solid meal to be had here, just not wonderful. Convenient to the hotel, but don't think I would come downtown for this?

Amazing service

By coacheveling |

My husband and I enjoyed some kid free drinks at this lovely Bistro Bar. The bartending staff was absolutely wonderful. Located on the main floor of the hotel was a wonderful convenience.

Best Breakfast!

By tracey b |

We went to Mother's based on a recommendation from the hotel staff, so glad we did! The restaurant looks like something you might find in a European city; clean, bright, airy. The food was fantastic, so good that we went back the next morning! The Migas scramble was amazing.

Mothers Has recently moved to a new location, but still serves some great food! The lines can be long even after moving

By dickdemaret |

into larger space so reservations are recommended. Breakfast is our favorite meal, but go hungry in any case.

Home cooking

By Ralph H |

We were staying in the hotel adjacent to the restaurant and heard it was good Luckily we made reservations as it was packed The food is truly like mother makes , very nicely done and lots of choices Service was pretty quick and waitress was knowledgeable Noise level was very high , we couldn’t hear ourselves Prices pretty high but worth it

Not very good.

By tej70 |

Not very good. Had the worse crab cakes ever. My wife salmon was better. Only thing good were the martinis. Certainly could not recommend for what we ate.

Great space, delicious French toast

By ecotait |

Located on a street close to some hotels (and a Voodoo donuts location), it was a convenient location. We were seated at a very comfy booth/table. We came on the late side for brunch on a weekday and the service was outstanding. The standout food was the French toast. We also had the breakfast nachos hash (a little greasy, slightly disappointing). Pierogis were awesome. The elderflower sparkler was very nice. I would definitely go back for lunch and try the matzah ball soup.

Nice gathering spot for families and friends

By Maria 🪷 |

We were staying in the adjoining hotel and kept seeing how many people were always seated, so we thought we’d stop in. The staff was very nice. The restaurant is large and has simple decor, nothing unusual. Our food was good, but nothing out of this world. I’m not sure that I *need* to return, but I could see myself gathering here with friends or family for brunch.

Really good brunch!

By silvrwolv |

Mothers is in a beautiful hotel! There was a wait but didn't mind. Walked around the hotel. Really good Salmon Hash. I had a delicious, fresh baked Cinnamon pecan roll.

Great Food, Eclectic Menu

By WellTraveled3 |

We had a great dinner at Mother’s Bistro, which has a very varied menu with lots to choose from for any taste. We had the wild grilled salmon bowl with brown rice and the salmon was excellent, with a spicy Asian sauce and fresh broccoli, snap pea pods, carrots, etc. Very good attentive service. Save room for dessert and head to Voodoo Donuts, which is right down the street!

A must. Kind staff.

By Love2Travel |

Cody walked us to our table. What a sweet young man. Great first impression. There’s a hopping bar on the other side of the hostess area. Mother’s moved from a smaller area, where people were waiting outside the door, to a larger place a few years back. Across the street diagonally from Voodoo donuts. It’s connected to the Embassy Suites hotel. There are articles screaming accolades of Chef Lisa and her successes. Each month, Mother’s features a mother from the area. Chef Lisa cooks with her, and learns about her culture. The colors inside are very soothing. Beiges. Yellows. Light blues, greens. Sheer white curtains. This place is absolutely adorable. Tray ceilings. Chandeliers. “Tin ceiling” boarders around the walls. Choice of booths, tables, and tables with window seats with cushions. Outside seating/pets. Lacy was our server. She’s from Mississippi with southern charm galore. My husband enjoy the DOUBLE DOWN meatloaf and Mac-n-cheese. I had a small Greek salad.

Great food good atmosphere

By Oliver T |

Mother’s is a great family restaurant with great service. They serve home cooked comfort food that is amazing. Need a reservation. Ordered short ribs with smashed potatoes and green bean and chicken and dumplings. This is a fantastic place and would highly recommend.

Good place for breakfast

By Charles P |

Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and good food in downtown Portland. Breakfast was terrible at my hotel so I had to find a nice place start my day.

Great place

By Cedric S |

I really enjoyed eating here. The vibe in the atmosphere of this bistro was really nice. The food was great, service was perfect too! I'll gladly come back here again sometime with my daughter!

Can’t say enough good things

By bets2m |

Can’t say enough good things about first, the remarkable service at Mother’s. We requested another table because the corner table was a little chilly. No problem. Our server did an incredible job of waiting on our party of three. We were celebrating my December birthday and although it was busy, she made us feel like ours was her only table! Food was fresh, tasty and plentiful. Food came without a wait. I had the pot roast and chicken and dumplings (half orders each). Rich and creamy chicken in broth and dumplings done to perfection. Wifey had dumplings as well and the full order comes in a hefty crock. Our other party member had crab cakes which I was sampled. Smooth taste—not overly seasoned. Then there was desert. A complimentary generous slice of chocolate cake with fresh whipped cream arrived complete with candle. We all sampled this rich cake and our server brought a cold glass of milk so I didn’t get terminal rich chocolate throat! The restaurant’s ambiance is complete with bright interior colors and windows that offer a view of busy Third and Ash street corner. During busy Christmas time, $10 for valet parking around the corner at Embassy Suites Hotel is worth it. As Arnold would say—I’ll be back!

Mother's New Location Same Great Breakfast!

By Gary S |

When we were departing for Portland one of my first comments to my wife was I need to visit Mother's. When we arrived we were stunned at the new location in Embassy Suites. The space seemed to be a least double the former location and was so well done. Fortunately the breakfast was still great. Starting with the biscuit and sausage gravy with an egg. I never order stuff like that but for some reason it was crying out to me and it was fantastic. I did the 1/2 order and it was more than enough even giving up a couple of bites to my wife and son. We also has some bacon which was another winner and we ordered one pancake to share which was well worth ordering. We ended up making a second visit before we left Portland but will head back to Mother's on our next Portland trip.

Great staff great food

By Jennifer L |

This restaurant was in the lobby of the hotel I stayed at It is currently only open Thursday through Sunday Only drawback. The food was great. I had the special and the steak was cooked perfectly. I had the pie of the day Key Lime Pie and I have not had one that is better If it is offered on your visit go for it

A wonderful Family brunch

By LoveToTravel524 |

We were celebrating a family 50th wedding anniversary and were so happy we could make advance reservations at this popular spot. We ended up needing to change the reservation 3 times and we were always quickly accommodated with that. It was a busy Sunday morning brunch but we were welcomed with anniversary wishes and fantastic friendly service. We all enjoyed our food and the amazing slice of chocolate cake to celebrate the occasion was wonderful. Thank you so much!!!

Mother's (better food than my own Mother)

By Sheila B |

This restaurant was next to our Hotel, and we ate here the first day we arrived, and so glad we did. Best, fun-loving staff, and outstanding food. Locally sourced and delicious.

Super Delicious Breakfast

By Sue L |

Awesome place for breakfast. We ordered Biscuits & Gravy, Stuffed Frittata, Wild Salmon Hash, Pumpkin Pancakes, Strawberry Belgian Waffle, and Coffee. Everything was super delicious!!

Awesome

By Jane R |

Had a wonderful experience with a large party. Server was great, food was delicious, chocolate cake was amazing. Server was able to split our checks for each group within minutes even though she said it would probably take 20-30 minutes.

Mother knows best!

By Kathi E |

Run don't walk to this great place. Tucked away in the Hilton Embassy Suites this bistro offers excellent food and super yummy bakery treats! Thye also have a great little bar area that serves the best of the best of the local microbrews and IPA's. The staff is all phenomenal also. The prices are very reasonable, and they sell the best t-shirts. Next time I am out there I will 1000% be back!!!

Very pleasant experience

By RIkiS_11 |

We found this restaurant by accident. We walked by and saw happy people inside and decided to give it a try. We've been back twice in 3 days. We had a nice breakfast the first time. They offer half orders of biscuits and gravy and french toast. The mimosa is great. The blackberry peach sorbet is memorable. The restaurant is very clean. The staff is a real team.

Great food and service

By Robert C |

The food is outstanding, providing the wine variety with food from the Pacific Northwest. The coffee is great and the service is even greater. The pastries and the biscuits are some of the best I’ve ever had, and the homemade jam only makes it better. This is a must list if you come to visit Portland. In fact I have my next business breakfast this coming week scheduled here, and I look forward to it more than the meeting.

Excellent for Special Occasions

By Kam |

If you're looking for excellent food, attentive servers, and catering staff, Mother's Bistro in downtown Portland is the place to go especially if you're celebrating a special occasion. We were celebrating my daughter's birthday and we had a wonderful time. The atmosphere is cozy, yet luxurious. It's my daughter and granddaughter's favorite breakfast spot. Lisa Schroeder, the owner, came to our table and asked us how we were enjoying the food. I've never had the owner of a restaurant come to my table and be so hands-on and friendly with the guests. If you want good food and you want to feel special at the same time, come to Mother's Bistro!

A Must Visit

By GazPerth |

Fantastic furnishings present a very comfortable but elegant enviornment. The food continues to be excellent, with a menu that offers something great for everyone. A must visit restaurant.

A place to be visited only on an empty stomach

By Kimberly5775 |

I went to this restaurant only a few hours of having gone to Voodoo Doughnuts which is right across the street - not a good idea. The food here is so good that you'll want to eat all that is served. Unfortunately, when staying at a hotel, doggy bags of leftovers are not a possibility...... The service was great and the menu was excellent. This place has charm and atmosphere and is worth the transit ride to get there.

Wonderful food and service

By bgwags |

We have been eating at this wonderful restaurant for over 16 years. The food is absolutely delicious and made with love. The service is always great. We go as often as we can and the recognition from the staff and owner makes us feel very special. The owner, Lisa, does so much for the community. When in Portland, go to this very special place and make reservations! You will not be sorry.

Great Food, a Little Loud

By JStatler71 |

The food here is great and the prices are reasonable. We went with the fish and chips and the meatloaf sandwich, both of which were excellent. The fries are also top-notch. My only complaint was the noise. It's a big place and a lot of people are packed in there, so it is loud enough that table conversation is difficult. Going at an off-peak time would definitely improve your experience. Service was friendly and efficient.

Brunch in the city

By lexus7831 |

Haven't been here in 6 years, they moved into a larger location just beautiful. Visiting for the holiday and had to stop in. Fast service, impeccable flavors and beautiful setting made for a wonderful experience. Sausage are awesome, French toast crunchy and biscuit and gravy perfectly flavored. Always a wonderful place for a true Portland meal.

Tourist trap

By Laura R |

Portland is a lot of things, food centered is one of our best features. With that said, this was a mediocre menu, flavorless, basic and expensive menu. With how busy it was, I can definitely see how it is attended because they are in downtown for tourists and take reservations on a Sunday brunch. Waiting a half hour or hour anywhere else would have been better than waiting here to be seated then waiting a long time for food that was simply not good. Server forgot to bring French toast out first per our request, didn’t bring a hot cocoa till our food was about to be platted. The server did not quite notice my mother in laws cochlear so she only spoke to her from a distance on top of the fact that it was too loud to have any conversation. The bottle of sparkling wine was the only good part. Which was $38 to share. Better than nothing but not ideal. Really just go literally anywhere else.

Wow this place rocks !

By hstubble |

We went for breakfast and it was amazing. The food was delicious and the variety of different types of dishes was great. Highly recommend.

Amazing food!!

By Amber C |

We had never been here before, and it was amazing! We had the French toast and the breakfast nachos and I was so impressed with both! Some of the best food I’ve ever had!

Nice place, good specials

By Bryson |

Cute little place. We ate in the bar and had the specials of the day which was a Greek Mac and cheese and a potatoes leek soup. Everything was tasty. We might go back.

Glad I went but won't go back.

By susanbehrman |

I have heard great things about Mother's for years, it's a favorite brunch spot for some friends and family who live in Portland. My husband and I were in town with another couple and I convinced them that Mother's would be a fantastic dinner choice for a Sunday evening. The decor and atmosphere were wonderful, our server was a delight. The food was simply mediocre. Our table had the $15,000 crabcakes, dry and flavorless, and the tiny bit of accompanying mustard sauce did nothing to enhance them. The other appetizer we had, a pulled pork quesadilla was limp and oily and bland. The pot roast was pretty good, but certainly not exceptional. The fish of the day special was the best thing we tasted, fresh and simple. I wonder if it was an off night, a Sunday, but those crab cakes were so disappointing I don't think any night could have been that far off. If you can't always have good Dungeness for your dishes, don't have it on the regular menu!

Excellent Breakfast

By AeronauticalEngineer |

Mother's Bisteo and Bar is in downtown Portland attached to the Embassy Suites Building. The restaurant does not have free parking. Pay and park on the street. We stayed at the Embassy so we Stopped in for breakfast with the family. The restaurant was packed but we were seated immediately. The server was attentive and got our order out on time. I ordered Migas (see photo). It was delicious. The kids ordered waffles and pancakes. The food was fresh and coffee was fresh too. Great food and service.

LARGE portions

By Judith3042 |

We went here for lunch after reading some good reviews. Now the food was allright, but I don't think I would advise others to go there. It is a very busy place, even for lunch on weekdays. The portions we got were enormous, which is a turnoff for me, but for others it might just be a reason to eat here.

Good food and Service

By wcather2021 |

Friendly atmosphere and happy, helpful staff. The food was good, we all tried something different and loved our choices. Good variety of entrees and drinks.

Fantastic service Yummy food

By Sara N |

Our waiter was nice and made good recommendations. We were there for breakfast and ordered the omelet of the day and the wild salmon hash and mimosas. Will definitely come back the next time I’m in Portland.

Good for a late breakfast!

By hstew92 |

Food was good and drinks were strong! Fun atmosphere and decor. Would definitely visit again if we’re ever in the area again. But be advised that they don’t open until 9:00.

Great service + ok food = Over-rated

By MCalcote |

The omelet appeared to have pancake mix in it, resulting in fluffy but bland taste. The blueberry pancakes also lacked much flavor, but the eggs Benedict were pretty good. Great, friendly service!

Great place for brunch in downtown Portland

By pdxworldtravler |

Extensive brunch menu with all items ordered by our party were delicious and ample. Service was attentive and friendly despite being quite busy. Salmon hash was especially wonderfully. A great place for brunch in downtown Portland.

Nice Restaurant

By kahru |

The food was good the portion size was good The staff were all very good It was easy to find We did get harassed by a junkie outside the restaurant who would not go away until we went in I was denied access to the toilet at the end of the meal not sure why I would recommend this restaurant good atmosphere and good food

Must stop place for breakfast!

By LouieGroup |

Have been here numerous times and always happy with the service and variety of food. There is a variety morning cocktails that are good also.

Beef Short Ribs

By Yuri S |

Just off the grand lobby of the Embassy Suites Hotel in downtown Portland, Mother's Bistro and Bar is a great choice for a five-star meal at a reasonable price. Cocktails are very nice--I got a delicious martini. The menu offers a wide variety of starters and main dishes, including beef short ribs. I come from the Chesapeake Bay area, so I'm sort of a sea food snob and turn my nose up at crab cakes any farther than 50 miles from the Bay, but next time I'm at Mother's, I will try the Dungeness crab cakes. I trust Mother's. Tasty food, a fine atmosphere, and excellent service make this restaurant a reliable go-to that will not break the bank.

Very Good Food

By DONNY S |

Dinner with the wife on a weekday night. No wait for a table. I had matzoh ball soup and a Greek salad. Wife had chicken soup and pierogies. Service good. Food served hot. Good portions. Tasty. Reasonable prices.

Wonderful breakfast1

By lizlubee |

Our friends suggested Mother's for brunch, and we're sure glad they did. Excellent food and lots of choices. Can't go wrong here - it's all good!

Simply Great Experience

By skibum123 |

Attached to our hotel, so it was very convenient when we had just pulled into town after a long trip. Reuben was fantastic, although their 1000 Island dressing was a little too strong with onions for my taste. Kids had their mac n cheese and all were happy. The desserts, chocolate cake and a chocolate cream pie, were really good. The service was absolutely outstanding. We ended up eating here multiple times during our stay. Very well done!

Really feels like you've gone to your mom's to eat

By wannaCitall00 |

Admittedly, my mom's house was not as spacious or well-decorated, but the food surely felt like home. We stopped for lunch on our way to Cannon Beach and had a satisfying, home style experience. Not being familiar with Portland and its maze of bridges and one-way streets, it was a bit of a challenge to find in the old, historical section of town, but worth the effort. I ordered the soup/sandwich combo: meatloaf sandwich (predictable) the daily special mushroom soup (far exceeded my expectation!), and left the potato salad on the plate. Our server allowed my partner to order the $15,000 crab cake starter from the dinner menu. In my mom's defense, she never tackled crab cakes, and being a bit of a crab cake connoisseur, we'd say they didn't measure up to the hype. Still a very fun and pleasant experience, and we're glad we went out of our way to stop by. We couldn't resist the gift shop and still smile when we read the back of our shirts; spooning leads to forking so use condiments!

Exceptionally delicious!

By lewhales |

Lovely decor, perfect kind attention from the servers and delicious food made this a perfect 70th birthday celebration. Prices are reasonable and the chef checked on us personally! Best matso ball soup ever! This is a don’t miss near the Portland, OR Theater District.

Brunching

By Jenny C |

Went here for brunch and had their Wild Salmon Omelet. This omelet was so mouth watering made with whipped cream cheese mixed in. The wait for a table however was pretty long (30 minutes) but it was worth it. Would definitely go back if I am ever in Portland again.

Yes, you should go...

By Devin-Jean M |

Wonderful menu, top quality view, cozy atmosphere, and wonderful staff from the hostess to our server.

A Portland Staple

By angc377 |

We went there for breakfast. Big portions, good food. The omelette of the day was a meat-lover's dream, stuffed with bacon, sausage and ham. The service was wonderful. Charming decor.

Wonderful Breakfast-walking away satisfied!

By spitfirem2015 |

Emily was friendly and on top of it during are breakfast experience here. What a bustling place. Well worth it, worth any wait. The stuffed frittata was delicious. Husband had the French toast which was also delicious. A little sweet and savory for us.

Must have!!!

By Chris |

There is a reason that Mother’s is on the list of best restaurants in Portland. There is plenty of seating, lots of friendly staff, and some of the greatest breakfast foods ever (all for a great price)!! And the Brown Cow is SO GOOD - I have been thinking about that drink for months.

Great comfort food

By Zoyenka |

Visited Mother’s after several years. Still good! Chicken noodle soup was warming; would have liked homemade noodles. The meatloaf sandwich was substantial-made with challah, sliced tomatoes, lettuce and mayo and served with a tasty macaroni salad with celery and red onions. Good dill pickles! I can also recommend the chopped liver sandwich. Prices are a little high but for quality food, I am happy to pay it.

Wonderful brunch

By Bekahblake |

Amazing atmosphere, great food and even better service. I was given local recommendations and tips. Would be sure to stop by again next time I’m in town.

Wonderful brunch!!

By Mary Jo F |

We met my brother and his wife for a very tasty brunch. We all had the ham and cheese omelets and man they were so delicious. The waiter was really friendly and brought our order hot and in due time.

Satisfied

By Karen H |

A warm, welcoming atmosphere, friendly service, and excellent food. This was my first visit for dinner. I took my 90 yr. old mother, especially forthe pot roast. She enjoyed every bite...I've not seen her eat so much for a very long time. We all enjoyed our choice of entrees and left full...in more ways than one.

We had dinner and breakfast over the weekend

By David C |

We came for dinner and for breakfast during the same Portland stay since it is located in our hotel. Dinner was good in a very “average” way. They overuse salt in place of real flavor which drives me crazy. I got the grapefruit pink snapper special and it was supposed to have a grapefruit buerre blanc sauce. The sauce had no complexity. The fish was cooked well but it came with spaetzle and I could literally count 16 tiny pieces of spaetzle on my plate. I was still hungry after. We came for breakfast hoping that was their “thing”, and it was convenient. What a raging disappointment. My omelet was a mound of dry egg with no detectable cheese, even though I had to pay $2 extra for it. There was so much garlic in it that’s all I could taste. My son ordered the French toast based on the amazing description. Challah bread dipped in crushed corn flakes. When it arrived it was basic thick cut bread. It didn’t look or taste special. My husband ordered eggs Benedict. It was good but again, nothing noteworthy. No jam for the toast we had. The butter on the side was literally food service grade pre packaged crap. The coffee was fine for a diner I suppose but again, expected more. High acidity and unbalanced. Our hotel breakfast buffet (Embassy Suites) did a better job with breakfast for free. We can in hopes of something special. If that’s what you’re looking for, keep looking.

Been trying to go to Mother's Bistro for years...

By Erin |

So, I finally went to Mother's. For years when I visited Portland I"d try this place and the wait was ridiculous. We still had to wait but as it was early afternoon it was only about 20 minutes. The menu is expansive and geared toward comfort food/deli and lots of choices. It was good but I wouldn't say great. Maybe my expectations was too high due to all the waiting. Big portions and really long wait for food also elevated my hopes. The atmosphere is very fun and the service was also great. I would recommend this place but maybe not worth hour plus wait imho. I will say the baked good were exceptional. We grabbed a homemade nutter butter cookie and it was amazing. If the wait is really long you can share one of the cookies while you wait.

Open for Business

By Bruce J |

Odd that Google reports Mother’s is closed. They are open just 4 days a week according to their website. I went in and the place was very busy at lunch time. I am a fan of a Cobb Salad, hard to say no to blue cheese. They are rather generous with everything on the salad. The more I ate the more the salad seemed to grow. I was happy since I arrived hungry. Service was very good. I was attended often almost like it was 2019. Impressed especially considering the staffing issues that are on the news. I’m already planning my next visit.

Best 3 visits in one trip!

We loved the late night nosh, dinner the next day and brunch on Sunday...ALL was super good. Fabulous wait staff and welcoming owners. Thank you for making our trip special.

Kid friendly with amazing key lime pie.

By Shelby T |

We ate here for lunch today. The place is HUGE! We were able to wait comfortably during the short wait to get our table and our youngest enjoyed playing in the children’s area. We were seated and had a hard time choosing from the amazing menu. We ended up with Rueben Egg rolls, Irish Nachos, Corn beef Hash and our kids had plain buttered pasta (fan favorite) and macaroni and cheese. We ended with kids sundaes and the key lime pie. I will never forget that key lime pie. Amazing service and we enjoyed our window view.

Twelve out of ten or six out of five stars. Tasty home style cooking, great staff, good energy spot w cute decor

By jenn_ |

Seven out of five. Wow. Good home style food lives. Phenomenal wait staff lives. (Wha?!?!?!) Great service lives. And our tastebuds are torn we had so much goodness in our meal. We took our mom there for her birthday today. Honestly, I was floored by the exceptional service. The food was across the board amazing. So….. all solid performers…. The salmon (not dry, reduction sauce on point, served on lovely spinach), moat loaf (it’s better than your mom’s trust me) the chicken bowl (moist chicken, lovely flavor) and the crab cakes were delishhhhh on coleslaw and a bed of perfectly prepared shoestring fries. We will be coming back…. As soon as possible. Our server Anna Bannana was top notch.

Mother's Bistro is back

By Victor S |

After a long hiatus, Mother's Bistro has reopened. Currently (June 2021), Mother's is open for breakfast/lunch 9 am to 2 pm, and dinner, 5-10 pm, Thursday through Saturday, and Sunday 9 am to 2 pm. It would be a good idea to check on their website for updates for their hours. The food theme here is comfort food if your mother was a great cook. Most of the old favorites are on the new dinner menu including pot roast, pierogis, crab cakes, chicken and dumplings, macaroni and cheese, grilled salmon, and many others. In our recent experience, the kitchen is doing a great job. I particularly liked the ling cod special and the pierogis. Before the epidemic hit, Mother's moved to a new location on SW 3rd, between Ash and Pine. This new location is much better - very nice dinning room and bar. If you are looking for a Portland original with great food, Mother's is perfect.

Lemon cheesecake to die for

By Laura S |

A past experience for brunch was amazing. This time was dinner and my meal was sadly not as good as I expected, but I think I may have ordered the wrong thing, the Mediterranean lemon chicken bowl, on a cold night. Perhaps the "healthy" option is not the way to go at Mother's? The LEMON CHEESECAKE was the best part and my reason for 4 stars, not three. Save or make room for this tasty treat!

Great Breakfast

By LADuckFan |

This was our first visit to their new location. It’s bigger but they still successfully kept the friendly feel of their old restaurant. We hadn’t been here for a couple years and were so glad we went back. Great coffee including specialty coffees. Seasonal special of Pumpkin Pancakes and tasty egg dishes. Toast came with homemade jam. Top it off with friendly service and this remains a winning restaurant

Great place for brunch

By Gigi |

We popped in for brunch and it sure was tasty. I had the chef special omelet and it was delicious. Cute atmosphere great service.

Home cooked deliciousness

There is a great menu with so many yummy things to choose from. All of the portions are very generous and everything we had was cooked perfectly. Lovely friendly staff and a great ambience.

Like my mom’s cooking only better!

By DonnieOshkosh |

Our son was visiting us from New York over the holidays & we decided to take him to Mother’s for dinner on Dec 21. My wife & I had lunch there once before and have wanted to go back for dinner since then. Our service was wonderful-including those who brought us our drinks & food. Our primary waitress-Rita- was so relaxed & made us feel relaxed-even though it was quite busy. We ordered drinks & enjoyed them while deciding what we wanted to eat. My wife & son ordered what I would call “comfort entrees “ chicken dumplings for him & Salisbury steak for her (just like Mom would make!). I went with the Dungeness crab cakes heaped with very good & very thin potato sticks. All of our meals were delicious. We passed on dessert, only because we had eaten so much but next time we’ll allow for & have dessert. Our bill, before tip, was $121.00 which I felt was reasonable given the quality of the food & service, along with the nice atmosphere. Oh, we were able to park in the adjoining hotel parking lot so parking was easy and close by. I highly recommend Mother’s & look forward to our next meal there!

Quaint & Delicious

Elegant atmosphere with wholesome hearty food! Large portions, good prices and excellent service! A must try restaurant and be sure to save room for dessert!

My Mother Didn't Cook This Well.

By Steve R |

An attractive place to stop for some mid-day refreshment. Great staff. Well-rounded menu. Delicious salads, sandwiches and desserts.

Always a good meal

By Beth O |

Love their breakfast and dinner, but the weekend brunch wait is absurdly long. They do take reservations for most meals (except weekend brunch) which is a nice change from so many places in Portland... Especially in such a foodie city where waits can be long for many restaurants. My most recent meal at Mother's was for dinner, New Year's Eve... Got free dinner rolls/ focaccia to start, which was nice; then had calamari for an appetizer, which was solid. For dinner I had the fried chicken dinner... Once again, a solid meal, but in a town that has so many fried chicken offerings, it was ok compared to memorable. My partner had ribeye steak, which was a good size and he enjoyed, but not over-the-top memorable... But it was served with some sauteed greens (creamed spinach, perhaps) which were memorable if you like that sort of thing (I do, thus the reason I mention it). Didn't have dessert, but they did sent us off with a few free mini-cookies. The service was good, attentive... And the physical space of the restaurant is pretty and clean.

Delicious comfort food

By Wanda H |

We stopped in early without a reservation but were able to get a table. Shepherd's pie was plentiful and delicious. Staff was very friendly. Highly recommend.

Lunch

By sskroll |

This place was attached to our hotel so it made it convenient but the reason we chose to go there is because a guy in our hotel elevator said it was probably the best place to eat in Portland. Their food is great and the service is outstanding. It seems to always be busy and prices aren't bad.

Don't miss a meal there if you're in Portland!

By irened |

The food and service are excellent. It feels like a treat to eat there with it's cool atmosphere and ambience. Mother's was recommended to me by a friend who had lived in Portland (I was visiting) and boy, am I glad I went!!

Support Great people

By FunintheOCsun |

The people who own and run Mother's are worth supporting. They're kind and make great food! We had breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Wow! Did I pick a bad night to visit?

By Greg P |

Wow! I read all of these positive reviews and have to ask myself if we visited the sameplace! The atmosphere for dinner was so noisy that we could barely hear each other converse. The waitress was so efficient in taking away utensils, plates, menus, wine glasses, that we ordered much less than we would have ordered otherwise. The main courses (Hamburger, Meatloaf, Double down were good, but we couldn't stop eating because every time we paused, something was removed, even if we weren't finished with it yet! Bread plates and knives removed with bread still in the basket (the bread was left on the table) and after we had specifically asked for more bread! Wine glasses removed before we finished ordering our dinner (sign: we aren't ordering wine). Dinner forks scurried away before the entree arrived. The Daily special menu was taken out of my hand and placed away from me on the table! Fries were heavily grease laden and inedible. Chocolate cake looked oh, so good, but so dense and cloying that we could only eat one or two bites. $3.00 for one small scoop of ice cream. We needed a pint to make the cake palatable. Finally, I resorted to placing my hands over my dinner while I was eating so that she wouldn't remove my dinner from me! Yikes! I have never felt so obviously rushed in my life! I look at all the reviews and think that maybe we should give Mother's another chance but is it worth the terrible ambience and service?

New location but same charm and delight

By mooseofblue |

It was so good to come back and have an amazing breakfast at Mother’s. It’s a new location but the same vibe energy is till in play. Amazing dishes, to-die-for cinnamon rolls and delightful servers. Consider yourself fortunate if you have the pleasure of being served by Mark M. Delightful personality and fantastic service. He represents the Mother’s philosophy and overall staffing with excellence. Now, get out there and call your mother!

No mother’s love

By Jeffrey M |

I have to tell you how shocked and appalled by what I witnessed on Saturday night . Let’s forget about the fact the the food was mediocre at best . What blew me away was some other guest leaving . They were unaware that you couldn’t take a drink from the restaurant into the lobby of the hotel. She screamed at them and berated them In front if the whole restaurant. How hard would it have been to politely stop them and let them know the policy . I have been in the business for 35 years and never sad something like that . I’m sure the guest was horrified and embarrassed for no reason other then. It knowing the policy . I’m sure you can find a better place

Decorated over the top and a fun experience

By William |

3 of us went for breakfast. Mixed reviews from great to fine. Decorated over the top with handsome young perky men running about to serve you. Be sure to get reservations as it quickly become packed. Go just for the experience and good food. We had a lot of fun.

First stop in town

By Beth_sage |

We were staying at the Worldmark and this was not that far (even in the rain). We had been here on our last trip so it was a perfect selection to start our trip while waiting for our rooms. Between the 3 of us we had the reuben which was grilled and NOT greasy; a generous omelette and lovely and warm crab cakes. All were generous and delicious. Service was very good.

The Food Was Excellent

By AreWeHavingFunYet |

We were staying at the Embassy Suites hotel and Mother's Bistro & Bar is accessible through the lobby. We just wanted a snack, so had fries, lemon meringue pie, and drinks. The plate of fries was huge, very good, and looked made-in-house. The lemon meringue pie was very, very delicious! It was of a heavier consistency than we're used to, but it was outstanding! Service was friendly and attentive. Our only negative comment is about the decor. It consists of bold colors, and it's hard to know what look they were aiming at. It looks like something you might see in New Orleans -- part tacky/fancy, part house-of-ill-repute. That's where I think they missed the boat. I just can't picture having a nice, quiet romantic dinner date there. The decor just screamed at you - chandeliers, gold wallpaper, huge florescent yellow plastic chairs, etc. Food and service though -- excellent!

Wow!!!

By hazel d |

Amazing food and the line was wrapped around the block, so thank God for being just 2 of us, so we sat in the bar and got served very quickly. Maria and Jason were awesome and Jason made my white linen just right. The biscuits and gravy were to die for and so was the chocolate cake.. the breakfast was great and ambience was just right for Sunday brunch.

Mothers

Great food and waitress, she was awesome. A bit loud but the food is the best. Salmon hash and French press coffee. Yeah

The place has changed

By David B |

We have been going to Mother’s for awhile, and as it had been a couple of years since we had been there, we were really looking forward to it. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. The first thing was it had moved. Not a bad thing in itself, but instead of the quirky mismatched chandeliers, flat black and gold decor with eclectic seating, it was now satiny cream and gold, with everything coordinating tastefully. The place had become an adjunct to the equally tasteful Embassy Suites, glistening French doors leading from the dining room to the lobby of the hotel. The food we had loved tasted....alright? The biscuits and gravy had lost their tasty edge, and the wonderfully fluffy pancakes were, well, just pancakes. Nothing to write home about (which we had actually done on previous visits). The staff, once wickedly witty in their interactions with the guests still wear the cool black tee shirts with the humorous one liners on the back, but the interaction is now shaded with an unspoken “Welcome to the Embassy Suites”. I guess you can’t go home anymore. Even if it’s called “Mothers”. Sigh.

Personal Favorite.

By Michael M |

My go-to for breakfast or brunch in Portland. Great meal and drink options, fabulous staff and service, even on a busy Mother's Day. Skip the wait and enjoy eating at the bar.

Let mom made

By CplusJ3 |

Mothers did not disappoint. Cool funky vibe is accompanied by solid comfort food choices. Just like mom made but in most cases better. My husband and I got the pot roast dinner and the mac & cheese and shared them. Excellent choices!

Cool spot

By KCinLG |

Didn’t realize how huge this restaurant was. Don’t be fooled though. As big as it is, it’s super crowded and you will have to wait. Reservations are accepted via Resy.com and thankfully we made one. Upon arrival we were greeted by the hostess and didn’t have to wait very long for our table of two. The ambiance is great, the food is good and service exceptional. We came for brunch, and they had pretty much all the popular brunch items (omelets, scrambles, etc.) The mimosas are a great deal, and we’re glad we went with the smaller size, which was plenty and super boozy. Overall, a pleasant experience and would definitely go back again.

Amazing selection of food

By landcruiserbob |

This place has so many options you could eat for a year. Plentiful in gluten free and vegan choices, my wife and I found this the perfect place to eat in Portland. Oh and Voodoo donuts are across the street. Bonus.

All the famous people come here when in Portland. Fabulous food - can't be beat. Sweet decor, great service. We live here and this is one of our favorites

Excellent service, delicious food, just like mom makes! Chicken and dumplings, meatloaf, Mac and cheese… so many good options!

Best Northwest Comfort Food in Portland

By Chris and Cindy B |

I love this new location that seems to hold twice as many tables! This is the perfect building/hotel to complement Mother’s Bistro. We have had excellent service the three times we have eaten here in the past few months. The Chicken Fried Chicken is absolutely amazing! The Mac and Cheese options are always delicious!

Dinner

By S S |

Had the ribs and pot roast. Service was good and waiter very personable. The pot roast was delicious however the ribs were cold and tasted like they were old. For the price charged it should have been hot and fresh. Sketchy scene in front of the restaurant with man tripping and the manager took care of it.

Dinner with new friends

we wanted to return to mother's bistro for lunch before the no kings rally/march at the battleship waterfront....we cycled down as always.......we usually sit at the bar, but it was very crowded, so we put our names on the list....we had a seat at a window and carter was the staffperson....he was great...charming, funny, and efficient....we shared a momoso, lg mimosa, and then came the food...i had 2 eggs with whole wheat toast, and my partner had the 2 egg breakfast with avocado.....the food was excellent, and the environment was festive.....we love coming here...lisa schoeder, owner, stopped by a couple of times, and checked in...as usual, she is so friendly and charming...the place had halloween decorations up too.......thx so much.....

Suprised

By AndreaUbok |

We came to Mother’s because TripAdvisor rated it as one of the top 1% in Portland. We arrived at 12:45 and waited a half an hour for a table which is what we were told. The Sunday brunch menu looked wonderful with breakfast items on one side and lunch items on the other. The Restaurant really look like my mother’s home, with the mirrors on the wall and her chandelier. My husband ordered a salmon Cesar salad. I ordered a cup of matzo ball soup and pierogies. We waited more than a half an hour for our food to arrive. While we were waiting the restaurant was emptying out and we heard the clanking of dishes as they were putting things away. It seemed like we were the last ones served, our food was just OK. The soup was flavorful with vegetables and dill but the matzoh ball was frozen in the middle. I found our waitress and she replaced the soup and adjusted our bill. The second matzoh ball was hot and fluffy. I was really taken aback that they were cleaning up the restaurant at 1:30 while we were still eating. As my husband was eating his salad, staff stood behind him cleaning the windows. I never had that happen before and had to take a picture

Expected More From A Restaurant Rated 11 Best In Portland

By Mike4TraveI |

This may have been the 1st time my wife and I ate at a restaurant that was well rated in TripAdvisor but seemed undeserving of it. We got here for brunch and waited a half an hour for our table and another :30 to get our starters & salad. The restaurant is located right off the lobby of My wife had the Mother's matzah ball soup and starter pierogis. I ordered the salmon Cesar. This was from a good and varied menu. My salmon salad was so so, nothing special. My wife's pierogis were on the cooler side and her matzah ball soup was chilled unfortunately. We were comped for 1/2 of our cost BUT... Shauna our waitress was not easy to find to tell her about this. We believe she was cleaning up. You see when we were there the restaurant was opened till 2. We got to our table around 1:15. If they were looking to CLOSE at 2, they should have told us that they would not be seating us due to the closing time. We would have understood. The kicker was that they were cleaning the windows right behind me while I was still eating. Were they trying to get to an early movie?

Very, very good

By Anne Percell |

I had heard that Mothers was good, but was surprised at HOW good. It is typically quite crowded for breakfast and brunch- plan ahead and be patient. The mimosa I drank while we waited was fabulous!!

Worth the wait

By Maruta V |

I went on a Sunday morning for brunch, and even though I went alone and agreed to sit at the bar, I STILL had to wait for a space. But boy, was it worth it!!! Absolutely everything was ridiculously good, from my own personal french press for my coffee to the special Belgium waffle I ordered. The folks around me were eating delicious things, too, and we all had goofy, happy smiles. I would go back in a heartbeat!

Great dining experience!

By Karen A |

What a great dining experience! We throughly enjoyed it! I highly recommend the shittake encrusted snapper with white bean puree and spinach. My hubby had thw crab cakes and loved them! All of the food was freshly prepared and had a beautiful presentation! Our waitress Rita was very attentive and friendly.

The Perfect Breakfast

By OldPilotOld |

My wife and I went to Mother's based on a recommendation by hotel staff. It could not have been better. Everything was excellent; food, service, staff, and property. One of the better restaurants we have reviewed.

Wonderful Breakfasts!

By Marti K |

We visited Mother's Bistro in their new location and were completely satisfied with the new place, the service and of course the food. We were staying for two nights and had our breakfast both days at Mother's Bistro. Thanks for providing a great atmosphere in your new location, and keeping everything else top notch!

Highly recommended!!!

By Susan C |

This was my first visit to the new location. My friend arrived a little before me and she was offered coffee while she waited. Our brunch was excellent: I had the "special" Belgium waffles with strawberries, whipped cream, and syrup. My friend enjoyed the tofu scramble. Brian seated us and I was very grateful for his assistance in helping me to my seat since I am disabled. Our waiter was attentive and helpful in describing the various meals. I highly recommend brunch at Mother's Bistro.

Good comfort food

By Mktpro99 |

Nice friendly restaurant near our hotel. Serves a variety of food including omelets, deli, soups and dinner. Wish it opened early than 9am for breakfast. Waitress was rather new. Discount if you are staying at Wyndham.

Upscale cafe

By Marco W |

Set within the base of the Embassy suites Hotel, this is an elegant café good for breakfast brunch or lunch. Service was prompt and the food came quickly. It was quite tasty. The atmosphere is more elegant than edgy; this is a place that you could comfortably take your parents to eat regardless of their age :-)

Great place to eat with amazing food and atmosphere!

By Fronglay79 |

Great place if you’re looking for a “home cooked” meal. Menu has plenty of options so it shouldn’t be a problem for everyone to find something they like. Portions were large and were there a little late so they didn’t have a problem splitting the portions for us. We didn’t have room for dessert but they looked amazing! I probably should have taken something to go.

Unique place for brunch (also lunch & dinner)

By Kitchenharpy |

Mother's has fabulous breakfast (don't miss the fritatta or the crunchy french toast). If you go on the weekend, be sure to make a reservation. Even though they have moved to a much larger place, there is still a line after 10 or so. Lunch and dinner (comfort food done well) are also very good. The bartenders here really know what they are doing--I always get one of their coffee drinks and a Bloody Mary. When we visit Portland, we always stop here. It is on the pricey side, but worth it for something special

Great service

By Elmtree3610 |

Overall an excellent experience. Loved the decor and the vibe. With a party of 7. No issues with service. Our server was great even while training another server. Food was tasty and there was a variety of choices. Would go again.

Amazing house salad!

By mcallistar |

We ate lunch here on the day we arrived because it was in the lobby of our hotel. The service was excellent and the chicken noodle soup and house salad were fantastic! It was so good that we ate dinner here the next evening. The place was jumping! Great food, atmosphere and service.

Not the Place for Experienced Comfort Food Fans

By CCarrnDC |

If you grew up in an area that had no good southern comfort food....no meat loaf, chicken and dumplings, mac and cheese, or pot roast, then perhaps you might like the food at Mothers..... HOWEVER, if you do know the joys of good meat loaf, chicken and dumplings, mac and cheese, or pot roast, then you should not go to Mother's Bistro and Bar in Portland. The service was terrific, the atmosphere is just the kind of place your grandmother would like. The spiced bourbon and apple cocktail I had was spectacular! But the food...well...the only thing is was missing was flavor. Skip this one.

Predictable comfort foof

By Art F |

Instead of donuts and fried chicken sandwiches for breakfast , we opted for a traditional breakfast at a sit down restaurant and chose Mother’s Bistro. The diner type restaurant is apparently a new addition to the Embassy Hotel where it relocated recently. The setting serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with a varied menu from eggs and bacon, sandwiches to meat loaf, For breakfast, my son and I enjoyed bacon and eggs with English muffins while my wife thoroughly enjoyed her corned beef hash. Food was good and came as expected. Service was super friendly and we fortunately snatched one of the last few tables because when we left there was a massive line of hungry customers . Plan accordingly.

excellent

By Teresa M |

we cycled downtown yesterday wanting to show love for the region that gets a bad rap......we sat at the bar and i had a mimosa, and my partner had the mimosa with pomegranite juice...next, i had the special goats cheese omelette with red potatoes and whole wheat toast, and she had the one half ordier of wild salmon hash and one half order of a pancake.....the food is always excellent, the ambiance so relaxing, and the staff are so great....we have nice conversations with the staff, saying we love mothers and wish more would come downtown and give the city some love.....we also, picked up trash for earth day today...thx so much....

I love breakfast for lunch

By Kathy E |

Breakfast until 2 pm, comfort food like meatloaf. Mother's Bistro & Bar is a great place for a weekday lunch with friends. The menu is extensive - everyone will find something they love. Street parking and city garages are nearby, as is public transportation, making this a fun outing.

Great breakfasts!

By DCEuropa |

This place is quite large and family friendly. Wonderful variety of breakfast options. I particularly loved that they offer French press coffee. A small press runs $5 and gives you about 2 full cups of good coffee. Service was super friendly, a bonus in the morning!

An excellent gastronomic experience

By Filippo G |

A place with a family atmosphere, very popular with locals. Courteous and attentive staff. Excellent dishes.

We waited too long!

By Joy D |

Staying at the Embassy we were right here!! Finally on our last night, before the hockey game, we came in for dinner! Amazing! Just ask your waitress (Laina) what’s good and it did not disappoint ! I wish u got our bartenders name because after the game, I returned for a night cap and he knew what I was ordering! I have to post the photo of the split the entree??? So I got 1/2 order of chicken dumpling and 1/2 order of the 6 hr braised pot roast .... omg!! Thank you Mother 🤗❤️🤗 I will be back (all the way from Canada eh!!) and will recommend !! yGEH !!

yummy and fun

By Teresa M |

masked up, we wanted to return to mother's for lunch yesterday, and sat outdoors....it had been a few yrs, and wanted to support their re opening with the pandemic, plus the recent vandalism of their windows....we sat in the sun, and it was cold and windy, but just fine all bundled up....we didn't have to wait at all, as most customers were inside....kai/ki was the staffperson who took our orders/brought our delicious food/drinks...we began with dos equis, and toasted to the lessening of covid....next, i had the veggie sandwich on wheat with pasta, and a half side salad...my partner had matzah ball soup, the portbello mushroom sandwich, and pasta.....everything was excellent as usual....all the staff was great, but kai/ki was exceptional.....be sure to tip big during the pandemic...thx so much!!!!

Brunch and Dinner

By Chris M |

For brunch my wife and I had the chefs omelette and eggs Benedict. The service was very good. The food was wonderful. We enjoyed it so much that we ate dinner there for our last night out in Oregon. If you have been ignoring this place or just really never paid attention to it . It is the Embassy suites Hotel on the outside and it is wonderful I highly recommend it both too families, couples night out, first date, or wedding anniversaries. This is why we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. Thank you for a wonderful time and a wonderful meal.

Mom’s from around the world.

By Mark B |

The place is quite large, not what I expected by the name. Found the food mixed, it may be poor choices. The cauliflower cheddar soup was somewhat bland. The grilled salmon bowl was excellent. Our first taste of really good salmon in the Northwest. Cooked medium rare over spinach, barely steamed broccoli, carrots with a nice Asian dressing. Enjoyed the Chocolate sundae. The coffee was very mediocre. Very good service.

Breakfast

By Michael K |

We stopped in one of the premier restaurants in the city for a excellent breakfast. Menu has a good selection of food with some fresh made drinks. Prices were middle of the range. Service was very good and the waite staff very friendly. We had breakfast here two days in a row because of how good the food was.

Amazing atmosphere and food

By amandamckenzie |

Mother's isn't your average restaurant attached to a hotel ... it is phenomenal. I loved everything about it. I went here twice during my stay. The first time was after the dinner hour (Thursday March 5th) with a very large group (25+) and the staff graciously accommodated us in their overflow section. This was not a small feat but they made it work AND they provided excellent service to our group. I can't thank them enough for being so kind!!! My second visit (Friday March 6th) didn't disappoint either. I didn't order food my first visit (which now l regret). l had the chicken fried chicken which is complete comfort food. YUM! The restaurant was filled with families and you could tell that this was a local favorite. They also had the cleanest floors of any washrooms l have ever been in, complete with a step stool for children to reach the sink. It was adorable. Don't let the stool make you think this is a regular family restaurant decor ... the vibe is very fresh, inviting and adult (but obviously kid friendly!). There is also a cozy bar area apart from the dining spaces which provide many seating options. I would highly recommend you visit.

Great breakfast in Portland

By JenJenSeattle |

Absolutely LOVE this place. Menu is very challenging as there are so many delicious options. We went for breakfast and Howard, our waiter, was terrific! We each selected different entrees and we liked all of them. One had the French toast, two of us had the scrambles and one had the bagel and loxs. Generous portions (I could not finish despite valiant try!). The grimosas (champagne and fresh squeezed grapefruit juice) were delightful. We were there on a Friday morning so street parking was easy. I’d plan on a hunt on Saturday as they are very close to VooDoo doughnuts and the Saturday market.

Brunch on a Sunday

By Kim S. |

Read the reviews so stopped by here for brunch on a Sunday. The place was packed! We waited for about 45 minutes for a table. Got sat right next to the front door so that wasn't great. The wait for the food was also long but when it came out, it did taste good. A little on the pricey side for breakfast.

Best breakfast EVER!

By Kristin H |

One of the absolute BEST restaurants we've been to for homecooked food! My sister and I enjoyed both dinner and brunch. The pancakes are out of this world! I have to say they are the best and most fluffy pancakes we've ever had. Loved the fresh blueberries! The biscuits are also delicious and melt in your mouth. We also enjoyed dinner. I had the meatball special and my sister loved her chicken and dumplings. The portions are HUGE! My sister also received a complimentary chocolate cake for her birthday. What a delightful visit!

10/10

By Amber P |

Most amazing food, service and ambience! Would absolutely recommend for anyone visiting Portland looking for a home cooked meal.

Give it a Pass

By DecoWorldTraveler |

Someone please give away ear plugs! So loud and felt like a Dennys. Whats the hype? Whats so special about this place? Maybe the fact there is no competition? Waited 30 minutes for a table to be at Dennys and host has such a bad attitude. Dude, you are in Portland not nyc. When in Portland skip Mother’s Bistro

Fun drinks, good food and a unique atmosphere! This was one of our favorite brunch spots in Portland! A little busy, but they got us in as quick as they could and took good care of us while we were there! Great experience.

Comfort Food AT Its Best

By VOgirl |

Hadn't been to Mothers since they moved. What a beautiful new location ! You can enter from the Ebassy Suites and use their valet parking for just $10. The meals were as expected...delicious. We did the Double Down and shared 2 half portions of our choice. It was just the right amount. It was my birthday, which I happened to mention to our waiter, and he brought me a huge piece of Devils Chocolate cake, enough for the 2 of us, with a candle. So thoughtful.

Family Dinner

Grandparents plus 3 adults and 2 grandchildren had dinner. Service was excellent and friendly. Nice atmosphere but a little crowded. Food was good but not up to expectations.

Great brunch but noisy

By Sandi R |

Great spot for brunch for two teens and a parent, with a mix of traditional and innovative menu items. Beautiful space, tasty food - but at the height of the brunch rush the space was incredibly loud and it was somewhat difficult to make conversation. My soy-ginger bento bowl was saltier than it needed to be but amid such a decadent menu it was nice to find a tasty and virtuous choice - my teen even helped me finish it.

Portland is not New Orleans

By SeattleTravelLover1 |

Side note.. what is with the 1degree of separation in wierd ways Portland refers to NewOrleans? Voodoo donuts? Cajun restaurants? Mothers? I'm sure this isn't intended but merely adds to the Weirdness of Portland. Mohter's is a mutha! Sweeping menu alternatives. Most entree's big enuf for two, Huge facilty with multiple rooms, each decorated with dozens of pictures and photo's of dear old MOM! Any Mom! Anywhere! Food was very good. Chicken soup with matzah balls, pretty darn good. Oversalted a bit for my companion's taste, but I thought it was "reasonably oversalted" if that makes any sense. Half corned beef was excellent. The $16,000 crabcake wasn't all that, as the filling was mushy and the crab a bit sparse. Thankfully we didn't have to pay all $16K for that ;-) The worst item we ordered was the gumbo. Probably should have sent it back... Strange taste... The roux was clearly made from a fish base, but there was something off there for sure. The rest of the ingredients seemed to be fine. Erick was an excellent server.

Good food at a convenient location

We are three times at this restaurant due to its location in the Embassy Suites Hotel lobby. The lunch was excellent - tasty and good service even though the restaurant was quite busy. Our first dinner experience was okay. The food was good but the service was a bit rushed. The food was good for the second dinner although one entree was lukewarm. The service was good but the room temperature was uncomfortably cold. If you have a choice of when to go, opt for breakfast or brunch.

Best Wild Salmon hash!!

By Alicia T |

Went on a friends suggestion and can’t stop talking about the food!! Also the mimosas are worth every penny.

Tourist Trap

By tymythy |

Our orders were taken soon after we were seated, but we had to wait 30 minutes for food to arrive. The salmon hash was 75% potatoes and 25% salmon. The chicken salad sandwich had a half inch thickness of lettuce and less than a quarter inch of chicken salad, so it tasted like a lettuce sandwich. I like my crab cakes full of crab, but these were full of crap, not much crab.

Good enough to lure us back downtown

By pinotforall |

Saw a billboard that said (I may be paraphrasing), "Remember when your friends were jealous that you lived in Portland? Captured how it's been tough to want to go downtown recently, what with Covid/riots/sidewalk tents/etc. But went to Mother's recently and it was great to see that some good things haven't changed. Get the ribs, get the chicken & dumplings, and then when you realize you've over-ordered get a dessert to take home for later or maybe the next day. Always feel like we've been taken care of here.

Grand service and fabulous brunch!

My daughter and I visited Mother's Bistro & Bar. The service was outstanding! Efficient, friendly, attentive and fun! The biscuits were melt in your mouth and the gravy so flavorful. My omelet was perfect and tasty! It was a classy experience. I will be back.

Nearly perfection in a restaurant--no wonder it's an institution in Portland!

Mother's has been around for a long time in Portland and for good cause--it's everything you want a restaurant to be, and more. First off, if you haven't been to their new location: Go. Now. Beautiful, light-filled, stylish, interesting. Walking in you can't help be feel enveloped by the welcoming atmosphere. But it's not just a pretty face. The food is AMAZING. I've eaten there a few times in the past year and everything is great. Cooked to perfection, presented in an appealing way and served with a smile. The complementary bread/rolls are to die for. And the price? Absolutely reasonable for the level of service, quality, and upscale touches. Also, I know the owner (and trust me--if this place were a dive, I'd give an honest review) and she treats her employees like family. For real. Do yourself--and your city--a favor and go eat at Mother's.

Funny server.

Two of us split a Fritatta, and it was just right. Get there early on a Sunday am, as there was a line after 9 am.

We trusted the name and was not disappointed

By Howard S |

My wife and I went here for dinner after passing the restaurant the day before and decided to try it based upon the name and we liked what we saw on the menu; we were not disappointed. They serve comfort food made from scratch. There is a large menu and they are open for breakfeast, lunch, and dinner. In fact, at the hotel we were staying, the frontdesk staff recommended we go here for breakfast and skip the one at the hotel. I had the Mediterranean chicken bowl with jasmine rice, chickpeas, Israeli chopped salad and olives. It was tasy and nice-sized. The service was good.

Still great after all these years.

Love Mother's Bistro. Passing through Portland first time in 8 years, but remembered Mother's for being so good back in 2017. Had to go again and they did not disappoint. Great breakfast place. Too bad we left town; would have come back for lunch or dinner.

Wonderful breakfast experience

Lunch with My Daughter

By Delores T |

Food was ok. I had salmon hash. It was good but not enough salmon, too many potatoes. Soup was good but warm, not hot. Toasted bread served with hash - warm not hot. Service was excellent, servers very friendly and most accommodating. We took a chance and walked in. No wait, seated immediately.

It’s about the experience … this was not fun!

We chose this as 2 Brits who fancied some traditional American food on our last night in Portland. We even made reservations at 7:30. We were out before 8:15! Our waiter even said “I don’t mean to hurry you” but that’s exactly how we felt. Important note: food and drinks were all excellent. No criticism whatsoever, unless oversize portions can be a criticism. We’re Brits remember. We arrived and were taken straight to our table. Very nice. Ordered drinks, 1 starter between us and 2 main courses. The starter was calamari. A portion easily large enough for 2 main courses arrived within 3 minutes of ordering it. Impressive! We had taken a plateful each, with c.75% of the portion still on the serving dish. This was going to take some eating! But within 3 or 4 minutes out came our main courses! “I’m sorry these are so early, the kitchen just gave them to me, I don’t mean to rush you” I know we should have sent them back until we were ready but it’s the restaurant that creates the experience. This just shouldn’t happen! My main was a “double down” of 2 small portions of regular main courses - both huge, both with gravy that was going cold. My wife’s macaroni was doing the same. So push the calamari to one side and start on the food that needed eating. And when we’d eaten all we could no-one wanted to go back to calamari! And it was only 8:00! No-one felt like dessert, my cocktail was half drunk, the arrival and payment of the bill was the slowest bit of the experience but we were still back on the street by 8:15. And, good as the food was, that’s all we’ll remember. If you go don’t let them rush you! The food is good enough to be worth making an experience of it.

Great Brunch

Great brunch and dinner food, service, and well worth the long wait. I would recommend making reservations!
