Good Down Home Soul Food!

By teenamaisonet |

The food here is awesome. If you're looking for some good ol soul food, this is the place. So much on the menu and it goes fast. One thing I didn't like was they close 1 hour before quitting time to clean up but the food is perfectly cooked. Going here again for sure!

So. Much. Food.

By Wilton A |

I went to this place for two (2) reasons. One, it appeared on a list that I got from TripAdvisor for "best restaurants in San Antonio" and I had filtered that list for restaurants that also offered a great value. Two, it was a soul food restaurant and the only one on that list. What a fantastic decision I made! The food was excellent, but just as amazing, the portions were way over the top! Hell, I took some home and had enough for another meal. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. But come hungry.

Wow!

By The Fraser Rivers Edge B&B Lodge |

We absolutely loved this place, our waitress asked our names and remembered them throughout our visit, it made us feel like we were invited to someone house! The food was outstanding, catfish was great, chicken as moist, greens and Mac and cheese were super good as well. Sweet yams were a little too sweet for me but that is a personal thing, overall this place rocks! Oh the corn bread was great too!

It's All Good

By mearh |

Saw this small house but inside was pleasantly surprised by some of the best cooking I've had in a long time. The meatloaf, fried chicken, porkchops were excellent but the best thing I had was still hot fried Catfish, wish I had a piece right now. Staff was courteous and solicitous, glasses were never empty. Now the dessert were ginormous portions of hummingbird cake, Carmel pound cake, sweet potato pie to name a few, there's more but I'm getting sad just knowing its there, San Antonio and I'm here, New Jersey. Make your way there if you're ever in San Antonio.

Wow!! Must try hole in the wall San antonio

By mrmoparhemi |

Fried chicken , catfish , pork chops where do I start. 6 in our party and our ticket came out to an unbelievable 64.00. The place is small and cozy an the service rivals 5 star establishments. Highly recommended this place.

Soulsation

Fried chicken was ten outa ten. So moist inside crispy outer and zero oil..amazing. Baked mac n cheese, damn I wish I'd have ordered a double serve of this gooey goodness. Corn bread was lovely. Waitresses were really attentive and helpful.

Tasty soul food

By Michelle S |

This was my second trip there to eat. I enjoyed my meal and the service each time. I like the food and the service.

Love the food there.

By Nevo210 |

I have been there several years I love the food and everyone is so nice. Desserts are so good too . Be patient to get sitted. Place is not so big for big groups. But so very much worth it.

You know they care but they have some tweaking to do!

By Franklin P |

The portions are big and the prices are reasonable. The Collard greens are great, the cabbage was okay and the catfish was good. The meatloaf was bland and tasted old and the macaroni was bland. The sweat tea tasted like instant and too much lemon. The service was great. I bet if you showed up on a Sunday the food would be twice as good!

Great food!!

By alexis wade |

This restaurant is one of best I've eaten at in a while. Service was really good & they are very fast. We only waited a few minutes for a to go order on a Saturday & the place was packed. Everything was cooked to perfection, I highly recommend going to eat here. (Hidden gem)

Sketchy Neighborhood, Amazing Food!

By Susan T |

Went here because we were working nearby. Shared the fried chicken and fried catfish with a colleague. The food was delicious and the portions are huge! The neighborhood's a bit sketchy, but there's parking across the street and behind the restaurant. The staff couldn't be nicer. The restaurant was packed and I understand why. Enjoy this hidden treasure.

Good ole soul food...

By aprilclements2017 |

That's what your going to get a big plate of well good food, large pieces of catfish, fired chicken and corn bread. Great hole in the wall spot.

Great Soul Food

By Gillum S |

The food is really good with large portions. The food is more like home cooked than most restaurants. I had Smothered Chicken and my wife had Smothered Pork Chops. Both were very good but I liked her Pork Chops best. The greens we had were some of the best I've had. The Yams were better than my mom's, so there is none better in my opinion. The peach cobbler was very good. The weakest point was the Corn Bread Muffins, but my mother made the best Corn Bread ever. We will go back here when we are in San Antonio.

Soul food

By KeniaJ15 |

Atmosphere was great! The food was the best soul food yet in San Antonio. The parking is horrible but overall a great place to dine. I will be going back in the future.

Reminds me of my moms cooking

By retiredvet13 |

Being away from home I get that taste for some good southern cooking from time to time. Service is excellent and the food is even better. Little whole in the wall but you won’t be disappointed. Cam be busy during lunch hours and after Sunday service. Food is made to order and the fried chicken is always my go to item and the Mac and cheese is amazing. Not none of that box stuff some of these so called southern restaurants be selling.

Good Soul food!!!

By blcassel |

We visited this Resturant twice during our stay in San Antonio. Let me be very clear. This is an old house that has been converted into a resturant, so there are tables in what might have been the living room. The staff was very warm and accommodating. The first time we visited we got there an hour before it closed and they were sold out of all the main dishes except the fried chicken and fish which I must say were both very, very delicious. The next time we got there at noon and had a great meal. I went with the meatloaf, cabbage, candy yams and cornbread, all hot and wonderful. They will be moving to a 2-story building in a couple of month, 2 blocked from there present location. It was worth it!!!!

Believe the hype!

By Yvonne S |

My husband treated me and my co-worker to lunch and my co-worker recommended this place. Parking is horrendous to put it mildly and we were trying to park a Tundra. Be prepared to deal with the challenge. Business was bustling and there was a short wait. People from all backgrounds and walks of life were there waiting to eat in or to pick up to go orders. Very pleasant atmosphere as everyone seemed happy and cordial. It's a converted house and the seating is cozy. When it gets really busy that can easily switch to, "tight". The menu reads like a visit to grandma's house for Sunday dinner; fried chicken, fried catfish, fried pork chops, macaroni and cheese, candied yams, black eyed peas, mashed potatoes...tough decisions! My husband and I had the fried catfish and my co-worker pork chops. OMG! This is the best soul food restaurant we've ever had. You cannot go wrong as there is something on the menu for everybody. The desserts looked delicious but we were too full to eat any. But the folks at the next table ordered huge slices of cake to go. Highly recommended!

Good food

By Debbie S |

Nice hole in the wall. Good food. Good deserts. Closes by 6 or 7p. Get there early before food runs out . I arrived at 430p , no Mac and cheese and yams! Only available was fried foods, I had smothered pork chops on the brain . Go early and enjoy

best food ever

By Carollong |

The restaurant looks like old house. But the food is out of this world and more than you can eat for about $11.00

Outstanding down home cooking. Go hungry and wear something that stretches. Once a month requirement.

Worth checking out

By 123Kimberly |

We tried the greens, green beans, smothered pork steak, fried chicken and sweet potatoes. Everything was great. The sweet tea and Arnold Palmer was excellent along with the cakes that we had also. We will definitely look this place up again if we visit San Antonio again.... Let me leave you with this tip, They have only a couple of parking spaces and when they run out of something they run out and they will close early!

Great soul food, go early for lunch!

By CBella123 |

Great soul food!! My favs are the catfish, greens, yam, mac n cheese and cornbread!! Get there early though, because they get really really busy at lunchtime. But I guess that also tells you how good they are!!

How I like to eat

By JoAnn W |

Went to church in San antonio. I read starving so after service I asked some of the member where's the best place for soul food. I read told about Ms. Kitchen it's is small but big on taste. The food is great, service good and the food is cheap. I'm already thinking about a return trip.

Home cooking

By Randy B |

I went here after reading a review that said the catfish was good. They were right, the best catfish in San Antonio. Crispy, fresh, no muddy taste- just delicious! My friends raved about the smothered pork chops. Add in cornbread, greens and Mac & Cheese- wow, good stuff. We will be back.

Good Home Cooking

By Vida F |

I go to Mrs. Kitchen more times I can count. The best places are what you may not expect it to look like. It’s a home converted to a restaurant. I love the shock on friends faces when I take them the first time. 😀Everything on the menu is good...everything. It’s a lot of food for the price. The desserts you order before the food because the are so popular they run out. Try the Hummingbird Cake!!!! Only negative is the parking. Very limited in front and the back area is tricky to park. Calling in early for pick up order works. All super friendly staff always!!!

REAL SOUL FOOD!

By Frank Z |

I stopped here for dinner while on a recent business trip to San Antonio... a friend I work with in Dallas recommended it... EXCELLENT SOUL FOOD! The fried chicken and fried catfish were off the chain! Greens are not on the Menu, but they do have them... You just have to ask... (That was my only pet peeve... really? WHY not put them on the menu if you offer them daily!) Luckily for me my friend told me to ask... Service was great... and all the food including desserts were fresh and home-made! I left stuffed... Feeling like I had just spent an afternoon at my grandmothers house on Sunday!

Down home cooking

I recently moved to Texas from North Carolina and this place just made me feel like I was back home in my grandmas dining room..the service was great as well

HOME MADE GOODNESS

By CHRISTOPHER W |

Mrs. Kitchen is everything you could want and need to remind you of that old school back in the day meal your momma or grandmother or any elder in your family use to cook. Mrs. Kitchen got it. It was so finger licking good to make you take some home to have seconds. Oh and their desert cakes are to die for you can’t eat it all at once because the slice are big enough to eat in two setting or with a friend

Hit the spot

By Kitty C |

It was like having lunch at my mother-in-laws on a Sunday afternoon! The meatloaf was delicious, I had it with half gravy half tomatoes sauce! My husband's fried chicken had just the right amount of beading and so moist on the inside!! The mac and cheese was my favorite side. We will be back on our next visit to San Antonio!!

If you like soul food, you need to visit!!

By 457allen |

When you arrive, the outside doesn't look like much. However, the inside is great and makes you feel right at home. The customer service was amazing and so was the food. If I am back in the area, I will absolutely return!

Excellent Soul Food!!

By Shamin R |

I've ordered pick up twice here and the food is delicious. I've had their fried chicken with mac & cheese and greens. My husband had their meatloaf w/brown gravy with the same sides along with some lemon pound cake everything was DELICIOUS! and the portions were generous!! The staff was very friendly and professional!

Excellent Food! I really enjoyed the fried chicken and everybody else said the meatloaf and catfish.

Home (country) cooking in a large city

By congosandra |

The food transported me to my country grandmother’s table! So delicious! She was an excellent cook and used only fresh ingredients. This food was truly outstanding and the service—though we went during the busy Friday lunch hour—was outstanding as well. Our wait person was very attentive and looked after us as though we were familiar distinguished guests. We will definitely return soon and often.

Wow! This is so good!

By Doran FK |

We made a point to go here and highly recommend it. It's a short drive from the Riverwalk area. The staff is incredibly friendly and the food!!! We both had a mixed plate of fried chicken which was delicious, moist and crispy. Our sides included mac n cheese, collared greens and cabbage and corn bread, all we perfect. The meal was big but so good we ate it all, though had to take the delicious peach cobbler to go.

Hidden Gem

By DORIS H |

I found this little gem by mistake while checking out some vacation rentals in the area...one of the best mistakes I have ever made, and now we have a new must go to place when we visit San Antonio. Everything we ordered was perfectly prepared and plentiful. My husband ordered the fried fish and fried chicken, along with greens and fries. I had the fried chicken and pork chop, along with black eyed peas and macaroni and cheese...we then proceeded to share, and then bring home enough for dinner. We also had some really great, moist corn bread to go with our meal. We also brought home a large slice of chocolate cake and also a yellow cake with chocolate frosting...everything reminded us of my mother-in-law’s cooking (which we sure do miss). The ladies serving our meal were so sweet, and very attentive. I don’t think we will ever make another trip home to S.A. without making several runs to Mrs. Kitchen. All I can say is go...you will not regret it!

Now that's some good food!

By Felicia H |

Ok we found this soul food restaurant after eating at Tony G's Soul Food. And let's just say if you want soul food go Mrs. Kitchen. We were reluctant upon arriving to what appear to be a little house on the block. And it's actually converted into a restaurant. We got our order to go because we were traveling with our pet. We were having a late lunch around 3:30pm and you could tell it was going to be good food based of the smiling, happy and laughing customers that were leaving the restaurant. Unfortunately, once again I was told they were sold out of wings (like Tony G's see that review) but we still wanted to try it out. So we got fried chicken, catfish, greens, mac n cheese, candid yams, green beans and corn bread. And the smell that was coming from the bag told us this food is going to be GOOD! The portion sizes were large (enough for two meals) and the food was the BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were kind of disappointed that we didn't find it sooner because we were leaving the next day.. All I can say is if your in San Antonio and want some soul food go to Mrs. Kitchen

Best Hummingbird Cake EVER

By Mary P |

I had lunch in San Antonio today at Mrs. Kitchen Soul Food Restaurant and Bakery and the food was incredible! I had Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes and Collard Greens with Cornbread and my sister-in-law, Patty Koether Pape, had Fried Pork Chops, Caramelized Candied Yams and Blackeyed Peas. I also got a piece of Hummingbird Cake. Everything was perfectly cooked, well seasoned and very flavorful! The portions are HUGE - I will get 2 or 3 meals out of this lunch. And the staff was friendly, courteous and attentive even though this small family-run restaurant was totally packed. I highly recommend this place for excellent soul food and dessert.

Great Soul Food!!!

By Kimberly A |

I have frequented this restaurant on several occasions. The food is good and they serve healthy portions. Don't go there if you are watching your waist line....it will expand lol. If you have a big group, you may have to wait a bit to be seated. I personally prefer to do "to go" so I can eat in the comfort of my own home. If you come to San Antonio and looking for some good southern food, you can't go wrong. My favorite is the fried catfish and smothered pork chop. I can not vouch for the other meats. The mac n cheese is good as well. The only thing I had that I didn't like was the cabbage. I prefer mine fried.

very good

By Dave B |

choice of 1 or 2entrees, 1 is under 10.00 with 2 sides. plenty for 1. 2 is choice of 2 portions of meat and 3 sides so we got catfish fried chicken cooked cabbage , yams, mashed Tatars and corn bread. all was very good.enjoyed the food and atmosphere and people. a nice place to go.

My daughter and I got our grub on with her roommate. Good food large portions and huge desserts I recommend this place to locals & tourist. However parking is not good.

Nothing less than awesome

Small hidden place. Great food, good friendly service. Food was hot and plentiful. A must for a soul food fix. Try it. You won't be disappointed

Expanding to Walzem

By 67hollydolly |

I haven't gotten to try them yet, but wanted people to know they are expanding. Christmas day, coming back from Fort Sam Houston Cemetery, I drove up Walzem. On the building that housed the former China Harbour Buffet, they now have a sign for Mrs. Kitchen. Can't wait to try it based on reviews.

Good food!!

By Nancy B |

A friend suggested this restuarant. Defiantly worth eating at. Place is hidden hole the wall, But we had a good experience. Love the vibe that they had in resturant and they had music to make it feel more southern. Great value. Good Soul food!!

Comfort Food Done Right

By George H |

I wanted some soul food and stumbled on this place by mistake. What a discovery. It's not in the best neighborhood but is a nice quaint little place. I had fried pork chops, greens and sweet potato's with cornbread. The chops were lightly breaded, the sweet potato's not greasy and the greens tender. I plan to visit again to taste some other stuff on the menu.

Soul food heaven!

By Diana L |

Had the crispiest catfish and fried chicken here! Batter on both was excellent. I'm talking about golden pan fried moist inside chicken. The portions were generous and service is friendly. Iced tea was fresh brewed, but the bakery is what you really can't miss. Try the sweet potato cake. It's a moist layer cake with nuts and a cream cheese frosting.

Thanks Mrs Kitchen you are a hit with my friends.nds

By JoAnn W |

Real Soul Food tasted fantastic. We had Baked chicken with various sides the chicken was so tender it was falling off the bone. We were not only full but well pleased. The best part of the trip is my friends can't stop talking about how good the food was. Awesome they are telling EVERYONE about the food at Mrs. Kitchen we WILLbe back next time we are in San Antonio.

So Satisfying!

By ammiehines |

Wow, this was such a great dining experience. Traveling in the San Antonio area from California and found this place. Cute little house turned into a restaurant makes you feel like you are coming to Grandma's for Sunday dinner. The "parlor" waiting area is adorable. We were extremely pleased with the excellent customer service we received! It was so satisfying to be welcomed and made to feel comfortable, kinda forgot what that felt like. The dining experience exceeded our expectations. My mother and I had the fried porkchops which were fried just right, greens perfectly seasoned. My husband had the meatloaf, which I had to taste and it was the best I've had outside of my home. Very delicious!! You have got to try the mac n cheese, for a minute I thought I cooked it...homemade flavor- just perfect. My daughter had the child's plate which she enjoyed 2 pcs of fried chicken and a side. All the portions were generous. The whole meal was so satisfying! Can't wait to go back.

Tastes Like Home!

By Demetrius G |

One of the owners came in to try our restaurant (Jamaica Jamaica Cuisine) and loved it. She asked that we return the favor and we told her that we would. I am so glad that we did! We have been to a couple other southern food places here in San Antonio and most of them have been ok at best. This is one of our favorite lunch spots when we break away to get some "he and me" time. Food and customer service has always been wonderful. We will always come back! Respect!

Best Fried Chicken in San Antonio

By john w |

OK so this place is Phenomenal! Here is your quest. Get there before it gets too busy!! They open at 11:00am so get there at this time or expect to wait. These ladies have the best damn soul food, period! They are known for the fried chicken but I just tried the meatloaf.. OMG! They pan cook it about an inch thick and then cut you a LONG slice. Not like everywhere else where you get a block of meatloaf. Basically, if you do not plan your trip there during the week forget it!! LOL The locals like me have a lock on this place on Saturday and Sunday. This is a small house tucked into a residential area and they just have 10 tables. It is worth it but don't blame me if you do not take my advice on getting there at 11:00am.....

Business

By mykallh |

Good food, wouldn't think so looking at the area. Almost rated with moms cooking. This is great down home soul food cooking. So far this I recommend trying this. If you don't like the area get it to go. At home or there it's still good. However at home you enjoy it and sleep with a SMILE.💤👍👍👍

Mrs. Kitchen is the soul.

By Louis V |

The food was plentiful and flavorful. The staff were helpful and welcoming too. Watch where you park during dark times. Daytime is fine.

All I can say is Wow!

By mogasman |

You got to try this place! Best I've had in some time. Friendly staff and the food is out of this world. Don't be going for the baked chicken! Just close your eyes and order the fried chicken with vegetable sides!!! You will not be disappointed. Not typical hours so check open and close times. Not a large place so plan to arrive early to avoid a wait. I WANT MORE FRIED CHICKEN!!!

Ok

By tnkr14 |

Went on a Saturday after the movies based on a recommendation from a coworker. Told that they had awesome banana pudding but they don’t make anywhere. We ordered the two meat entree with three sides and lemonade. Our order consisted of fried chicken, smothered pork chop with macaroni and cheese, corn, yams and cornbread. Food was average but staff was very nice and courteous.

Don't Come Here on a Diet!!

By RaqVentures |

The food here is too good to not be bad for you! Fried chicken, Mac and cheese, carmelized yams, cornbread, green beans...all of it was fantastic! Food was quick, service was delightful, portions were BIG and the price was right! Hard to find, but harder to leave!

Food is great here, generous servings. Desserts are good too! Parking is tight. The staff is friendly

Real home cooking

Picked this place based on TripAdvisor reviews and I was not disappointed. Its not fancy inside or out and parking is tough, but the food makes it all worthwhile. The smothered pork chops and fried chicken were outstanding. Save room for dessert!

GET HERE.....NOW.

By BIGWILLYSTY |

Had the glorious opportunity to eat lunch here with my husband before returning to work at BAMC. I will honestly say that I typically am hesitant to venture off to sketchy neighborhoods but there were so many family owned eateries/restaurants right in the middle of this area and so I felt a little better about that. These ladies and gentlemen are soulful in more than just the food they cook. They all really have a burning passion that drives them crazy to serve hungry people with good taste. I've never had soul food out of a restaurant before but I prefer to say that this is a cherished HOME. And indeed they make you feel right there. At home. I was told today that they will be moving to a bigger place. I'm very new to San Antonio so I don't know much about Mrs. Kitchen's, but I knew there were too many people trying to eat in a very small place. No one cared!!! They all waited their turn and I will too next time if I have to. The food is literally from the souls of these people running this blessed little home/restaurant. It was really a breath of fresh air. Was a little sad that they don't serve potato salad as a side because to me, it's an absolute staple but then again who has time to make that all day every day?! I hope you read this Mrs. Kitchen because you deserve to be in a building the size of North Star Mall! Delicious food. I'll be back.

OMG

By bjornesbror |

Read the review on yelp decided to go today 3/12/19 at about 4PM they close at 6 so some menu items weren’t available. Had the catfish (2 huge fillets), 2 pieces fried chicken, candied yams, collard greens, black eyed peas and cornbread all for under $14. Unbelievable!!!!! Ken was our waiter pleasant helpful responsive. Unbelievable!!! Really wanted to try the peach cobbler but no room. Hole in the wall but so good. Long live soul food. Much like Tom’s, now closed, in Denver. A must stop.

Sisters lunch after church

By 55amhw |

Great church this morning and great lunch this afternoon. Soul fed at church and soul food at Mrs Kitchen, praise the Lord for both and God bless the staff & family at Mrs Kitchen. The fried catfish, collard greens, baked mac and cheese, cornbread and peach cobbler to go were so dang good. I thought my grandmother was cooking. So very good. And don't forget your hook of kool-aid. Mercy! Thank you Mrs Kitchen

YOU HAAAAAVE TO GO!!!!

By latrina d |

It is definitely a whole in the wall in the middle of the ghetto, but if I wasn't so health conscious, I would go at least once a month. I have been here twice and it's just like going to great granny's house. The first time I went, we ordered and our food was out within like five minutes. The second time, it took about ten minutes for our food to come back, but boy was it worth it. I have never had food so fresh and hot as I had here. It was like it had just come out of the oven and it stayed hot the entire meal. AND they brought so much, I took some home for dinner both times. YOU HAAAAAVE to go.

tweek your tastebuds

By Lillie A |

after our museum trip, i wanted greens and sweet potatoes and via internet this small restaurant pops up, we called and had only 30 mins or so before closing time...we made it and the little church ladies were nice as pie...quaint, somewhat fancy, clean and a true down home experience...chairs and tables had black coverings(chairs had a big red bow)...food was tasty and plentiful...staff fun and helpful...soft gospel music playing and just a very friendly atmosphere...we enjoyed ourselves...i had the real smothered chicken, greens, sweet potatoes, black-eye peas, cornbread and sweet tea(half and half)...the place is small and parking is mostly in back and you have to keep eyes wide open or you might miss it(a house made into a restaurant) ...i think it's still worth the find...

The Food was not very appetizing.

By Darrell L |

The Food was not very appetizing. We had the smothered Pork Chops, and the smoothened chicken plates. Both were very salty, with what looked like yesterday's gravy poured on top, not very fresh. The Collards greens were just mid-cold to slightly warm with more thick stems than green leafs. Very disappointing. The Mac & Cheese? Was just plan cold with un-melted cheese. The candied yams had way to much sugar, we couldn't eat them. We let our sever know about the food quality, or lack thereof, he was willing to bring us out another entree of fried chicken wings, and a regular fried chicken plate. The wings tasted good at first, but, but, but by the time we got to wing two and three, they tasted spoiled, and had a funky stinky smell. "awful"! The fried chicken legs and thighs were full of grease, and tasted like they were fried in last weeks frying oil. I commented to the MOD, manager on duty Ms. Pat. She apologized, but did not follow through on a refund for our purchase price of nearly $40.00USD. But instead said she would have to talk with the owner, and asked me to call back on Tuesday to see if a refund was approved. "Wait! What?" Your the MOD, and can't give an refund on the spot? We asked our server Zachary to just take away all of the un-eaten food. Zachary was nice and offered to buy us a meal if we choose to come back another day. We thanked him , but declined his offer. I must say that the very, very small corn bread muffin was good, although cold as well. NOT going back there to eat. *Man do I miss Mr. & Mrs. "G's"*

So much food!!

By MasTacosPorFavor |

Probably up there as one of the best fried chicken I ever ate. Sides were good with mac and cheese and dirty rice. Kool aid mixed with the lemonade is a good choice to wash off the food.

To die for

Love this good ol soul food corn bread is the best and i love the meat loaf i love this place period

Found this place on a humbug.

By QueenGiggles |

Found this place on a humbug. My family and I truly enjoyed the meal. The food was delicious. The service was great. The space is rather small and dated, but I definitely got the home cooked meal feeling. It was intimate and clean and quiet. I’ll definitely be back for more!

A gem of soul food deliciousness

By DocBrock2 |

I had the pleasure of enjoying lunch with my kids here and we all devoured the great food. The fried chicken was crispy, tasty, and freshly cooked and the meatloaf was scrumptious. I usually do not eat collard greens, but I tried some and they were pretty good. My kids enjoyed the mac/cheese, corn, and green beans. We all enjoyed the huge and delicious hummingbird cake (awesome!). I would definitely eat here again!

Food for the Soul

By Bobby Y |

Honestly, the employees here are just a joy to be around. You would be hard pressed to find more caring people at a fine dining establishment. The food is insanely great value. You really should come hungry as the portions are generous. So, I have established the people are great and the portions are great. How about the taste of the food. I have tried their baked chicken, fried chicken, meatloaf, and catfish. All are delicious, but the catfish is out of this world. Extremely fluffy and the batter used is top notch. From all aspects, it is truly a wonderful experience. Can't wait to go again.

Great Food. Done Right.

By Kinitra B |

Whenever I want some great soul food and don't want to cook it myself, I come to Mrs. Kitchen's. The food is excellent and you receive a wonderful value for your money. I've had the catfish, fried chicken, and the meatloaf as my central dishes and they have all been scrumptious. The desserts are fabulous--I have ordered two of them before--the chocolate cake and the 7-up cake is absolutely divine! Oh, and the cornbread is slightly sweet but not too much! I love that. The service is impeccable. Everyone speaks as soon as you walk in the door and the waitresses are friendly and courteous. They are professional without being cold--and that is important to me. Finally, this is located in an old rambling house with family pics on the walls and full of folks having a nice meal. It reminds me of visiting my grandmother's house in terms of food and decor. I will continue to return again and again--I'm also determined to get a slice of their famous lemonade cake!

If you don't know now you know

By lalalala41 |

When I walked up & saw the ac window unit I knew I was getting home cooked soul food . I got here @ 1130 on Sunday & there was already a line forming. They opened the doors @ noon . My friend & I were seated in Dana's section & she was awesome !! I had the fried chicken ( dark meat ) , mashed potatoes, collard greens & corn with a slice of cornbread. The food tasted the way my 83 grandmother cooks who was born in Chicago. The entire staff was incredibly nice & on point . I will definitely be back

Best home cooking I've had in a long time!

I found Mrs. Kitchen on TripAdvisor and the description was exactly what I was hoping to find. Authentic made to order home cooking, fried chicken with all the trimmings in particular. I went for Sunday lunch and not only was the wait staff wonderful but all the other patrons as well. Ms. Dinah took care of me and made me feel right at home. Absolutely wonderful service and food. Also enjoyed chatting with several of the people at adjoining tables. The fried chicken dinner was fabulous. I had 2 breasts and a wing which I couldn't finish but brought back for my wife to sample. The macaroni and cheese was to die for as well as the corn bread and dirty rice. I highly recommend anyone to take the time to head over and enjoy this terrific restaurant.

Amazing food, amazing service!

Stopped in for lunch, the food was amazing. The wife had fried chicken, mac and cheese, and collard greens, followed by peach cobbler. I had the meat loaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, and greens. We both had the corn bread. Our daughter had mac and cheese followed by peach cobbler. Our food was amazing. The true highlight of our meal was our amazing server!

Ms. Beverly, phenomenal server! Southern hospitality at its best complete with the accent. The food is level 10 delicious and you know it as soon as you walk in the door. All staff is smiling and talking with their guests. Get here, you won't regret it and you will try your best to finish the food:) Get the koolaide to drink, it's a perfect pairing with the food.
