I placed a takeout Order over Phone..Got to restaurant and was told that they was no record of my Order Placed. I showed the Maitre d' the number on my phone and time I placed order..Dialed the number while standing with her and Phone was answered by waiter at Door to prove I did call Ms Tootsie's.. Based on this experience..I could only imagine the service if I decided to dine there.. From what I saw while in there..this place looked Chaotic..Eat elsewhere is my suggestion..

Parking is Hard. Good food but not hot enough, health issue. TOOO SLOOWWW waited for food for an hour,w/nothing but Microwave corn muffins that tasted like wood. Drink choices were limited, No Coke, No Ice, No coors lt, on and on. Dirty glasses Staff standing around talking.

I took my wife to Ms Tootsies for a great dinner for our Anniversary. When we arrived and ordered it took out main course about 45min to arrive. While the catfish appetizers we great! Everything we ordered as a main course was uneatable. The smothered chicken was extra salty. The ribs we all fat, the string beans we smothered in garlic. This was very very disappointing to my wife and myself. When we asked for the manager he took about 18min before he came to our table. Unbelievable! I will never dine here again nor will anyone else in my family.

I love going to this elegant, classy place...The food is really good and the atmosphere is clean and the people are nice. Its on south street so there are other nice stores and so forth to see while down in that area.

Visiting Philly for 2 days and wanted to try something 'different'. Had heard about Ms. Tootsie's but wasn't looking for the usual soul food fare. Establishment is part restaurant and part bar lounge - as the name says. You must walk through the 'bar lounge' to get to the restaurant portion. Arrived a little early (7pm) for dinner, and the dining room was rather empty.....but not for long. The piped in music (all Justin Timberlake) was...unexpected: a little loud, but okay. 'Gabriel' was an outstanding complement to the meal: friendly but not overbearing, knowledgeable about the menu, checking back often to ensure good customer service. He told me that the restaurant is known for Philadelphia's best fried chicken; however, I settled on bar-b-que salmon with cabbage and mac 'n cheese. The food was well seasoned, but I must admit that I did use the hot sauce that was offered to me. The hot cornbread with strawberry jam was unusually tasty. Overall, a VERY satisfying meal.

So people compared this place to Deltas in New Brunswick. An upscale soul food place but I dont think there is a comparison. Its good that they are growing but some more attention needs to be paid to detail. To me it looks like it is trying to upscale. The area you walk into is nice. The bathroom however looks like they tried to put it together but cut corners. It doesn't look as clean and neat as pictured and def needs to be dusted. I do like the decorations in the main bar area very hip and cute. I was told the food was out of this world but I was not impressed. I am also alergic to fish but can eat shell fish and the crab cakes and macaroni crab cake ball thing were def not 100% crab meat. There was some fish mixed in there and it made me sick. It was more of a fish cake. The sauce on the macaroni crab cake thing was delcious though. Macaroni and cheese tasted tart and disgusting. The collard greens were delcious. But the smothered pork chops were just different. They were a little too tough and they had an intersting way of smothering them so that they did not loose the crunch from frying. It was not horrible but not that great either. The ribs needed to be cooked longer and slower. They tasted good but were also tough. The yams were delcious and the rice and gravy tasted plain. I went when it was slow so I had no issue with service. I'm just sad the food didn't taste as good as I expected. It seems like it could be a nice atmosphere for the lounge but the food was not as good to me.

I'm from Atlantic City, New Jersey and I've heard so many good things about Ms. Tootsie's. My sister and I thought it not robbery to check out the restaurant for her birthday dinner. Once we arrived we were greeted by a welcoming staff and seated immediately. Our waiter Gary, was very nice and suggested that we try the smothered turkey chops. Delicious. The atmosphere was heavenly! I didn't like parking at least two blocks away and walking in six inch heels, but the surrounding area was very safe.( Ms. Tootsie's is located on 13th South Street) I can't wait to come back and dine at Ms. Tootsie's.

My wife and I went there for a late Easter lunch. The food was amazing and the service fabulous. They brought us a sweet corn bread with strawberry butter. This would have been wonderful as a dessert even. Our drinks were well made and came quickly. We had the catfish fingers for an appetizer and they were great. The fish melted in your mouth and the batter was just perfect. My wife had the shrimp and grits. She loved them. I had the fried chicken with rice&gravy and mac&cheese. This was the best fried chicken that I've ever eaten. We would definitely come back. Sunday is the only lunch service and is probably the easiest to get a seat. They take online reservations for 8 or more by email, so if you are going as a couple then prepare to wait for something to open up. It's worth it!

About a month ago I purchased vouchers for Ms. Tootsie's on Groupon. I had never been there before, so I was very excited. The first correct move was to avoid the busy days (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). The second correct move was to go there when they first opened (5 p.m.). We were seated promptly. Within a few minites, a young man told us our server would be with us shortly. He was right! Ciara, our bubbly waitress, provided us with helpful suggestions. It was clear she knew the menu inside and out. We ordered Tootsie Pops ( a delicious spin to wing dings) and the seafood combination. Let me tell you! The cornbread with strawberry butter was AMAZING! My friend and I had to stop talking and start smacking. When our dinner came...well, it was best tasting crab cakes and shrimp I had eaten in my entire life! (Trust me. I had some great seafood before but this was amazing). The greens were fantastic. The service was amazing. After we ate dinner, our server gave us a tour of the whole building and provided us with the history of the facility. It was the best time I had in a long time. I've read the negative reviews, and I have no doubt that they are true. However, I can say that was not my experience. If you go to Ms. Tootsie's stay away from the weekend and late nights. You want to be able to enjoy the experience. Also, make sure you ask for Ciara to be your server. She'll show you a good time.

Went here about 2 weeks ago..., been hearing rave reviews for years, but I must say I wasn't impressed. The atmosphere was nice and the vibe was cool, but the food was average at best.

The food is pricy-yes, but you pay for atmosphere- no different than other fancy restaurants in downtown Philadelphia. I've been there about 4 times within the last five years. I can say that the food was okay last time I had it...used to be way better. The iced-tea, cornbread, and desserts stayed the same though. They're a must-get.

Dined here with my mom and cousins and it was just perfect! We waited for our table in the rooftop lounge and sipped on Soulful Sangrias and Watermelon Martinis. It was quite a wait, over an hour. Thankfully, there was steady entertainment on several flat screens to help pass the time. Dinner as incredible! The cornbread muffins with strawberry butter was a perfect start. I had bbq ribs with kale and cabbage and have to say they were the best ribs I have ever eaten. The portions were huge so I was only able to eat one. Other standouts at the table were the roasted turkey wings, shrimp and grits, and fried chicken wings. The service from Rita was outstanding and along with the food made the wait well worth it. I will visit every time I'm in Philly.

I will start off by saying I was skeptical of visiting Ms. Tootsie's after reading other reviews about horrible service and the restaurant going down hill since previous years. I had never been to this restaurant and we wanted to visit for my husband's birthday. We arrived about 6:20pm on a Friday night and we were seated right away. Our waitress was very attentive and we were assisted with our drinks immediately. We had questions about the menu which were answered with no problem. We both ordered fried chicken...I got mac & cheese and collard greens. I must say....the greens were to die for!!!! Had I known they were that good....I would have ordered two sides of them!!! I downed them and my husband couldn't believe it because I'm typically a slow eater. My hubby had mac&cheese and green beans. He said they were all great too. The cornbread is delicious and delivered hot to your table wtih strawberry butter....can I say "mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!"!!!! I was stuffed and couldn't finish all of my food...had to take some home. For dessert since it was my hubby's b-day, we split a slice of pound cake. I was really looking forward to it, but wasn't thrilled. My hubby loved it, but I thought it was dry. They heard it was his birthday so the whole crew came, tamberine in hand and sang to him! A sparkler was put into his cake to top it off! We had a great time, enjoyed the restaurant, enjoyed the food and enjoyed the service. I can't wait to go back! Reservations are only accepted for groups of eight or more. My only slightly negative comment would be their prices are a bit high.

The wait to be seated is incredibly long. The long wait is exacerbated by the rudeness of the hostesses and the physical set up. I had a reservation but my date was late. I was ok with them not holding my table but lack of professionalism and the rude treatment of potential customers. For some reason the hostess stand was set up outside on the narrow sidewalk. It was as if they didn't want people inside. The hostess rudely informed everyone the wait would be "at least an hour". Most people decided against waiting, many complained about the hostess' attitude.. Most restaurants allow customers to wait at the bar so when my date arrived I asked if we could go inside for drinks. The hostess laughed and said no. The few customers who decided to wait did so on the narrow sidewalk, leaning on parked cars. I decided against participating in the sidewalk chaos. There are several similar restaurants a short walk or drive away...Rex 1516, WarmDaddys, Haute, The Twisted Tail, South. We went to 1 of these establishments, was allowed to wait at the bar for 20 mins and had a great meal. It was preferable to being forced to wait on a city sidewalk on a high traffic street in 85 degree temperature. More importantly we were treated like our money mattered. This wasn't the case with Ms Tootsies

I highly recommend this restaurant. I went here for a surprise birthday party and had a wonderful experience. The vibe, food, drinks, and customer service was great! The staff was professional, friendly, and attentive.

Took my mom & sister for the first time, mom was in heaven over the okra, corn & tomatoes, sister tried to order everything from the menu, they both said the experience was Devine & they would love to come back. My favorites are the smothered pork chops & cornbread w/ strawberry butter you'll be in soul food heaven ALISA B

The food is ok, nothing to brag about. Our waitress was not good. We waited a long time for refills of beverage, and our check. Cramp space for seating. Only good points was the Tootsie flavored ice tea (which they ran out of and seeing Patti Lavelle at the restaurant

After a mostly bland food experience while staying in Philly, my colleagues and I visited Ms. Tootsie's. A good sign was when a gentleman who was finishing dining as we entered started telling us how good the food was. A lady told one of the members of my party we had to try the Mac and cheese. I personally ordered the catfish, greens and yams. Everything was very good although my friend from down thought the greens should have been cooked down more but they were better then the greens at Warmdaddy's. Others in the group ordered ribs (pork), fried chicken and a seafood platter. Their sides includes Mac and cheese, black eyed peas. We all tasted the sides and agreed they were good. The cornbread served before the meal was also good. They have an enticing mixed drink selection but the drink I ordered was alright- not memorable. What was a bit disappointing is that they really do not have much of a selection for vegetarians so Y daughter only had fries. In the end we were stuffed, happy and satisfied. Ms. Tootsie really packed on the pork. My friend shared her ribs with folks at the next table since she had too much and the rest of us don't eat pork. Because I was staying in Philly (the rest had flights or long road trips)I got take the leftovers home so I had catfish, shrimp and chicken! We also ordered wings as an appetizer. They were delicious.: I would definitely recommend Ms. Tootsie's. It redeemed my Phila bland food experience. There is also Tootsie's (no Ms.) at Reading Terminal Market.

We've been going to Ms. Tootsie's for years, and always loved the experience. Food has always been exceptional, and the atmosphere is inviting and friendly. When the Skybar is open, it's a very cool place to have a drink upstairs. We went in on Friday night, and it was a ghost town. Sat at the bar, and noticed no bottles of wine, beer or spirits. We were informed that customers "preferred" the new BYOB format. Not the case on Friday as there were no customers. A couple of calls informed us that the license has been yanked. Food is just as good as ever, and it is a cool spot, but the bustle of a Friday night was sorely missing. We hope it's a temporary set back.

This was my first time to Ms. Tootsies, we came for my daughter's Bachelorette Party. We had tried to make a reservation days before hand and were told we would have to come in as walk in...okay, no problem. We get there and were told they were waiting for a party to clear and that it would probably be 15 to 20 mins for a table. We were a party of 7, but they had 2 spots open at the bar, so we took turns sitting until more seats opened up. We ordered our drinks, took pictures and even took pictures with a group of guys seated behind us. We waited way past the 20 minutes, more like 45, and decided to go ahead and order our food at the bar. After our food arrived we decided to tell the hostess to cancel our table we would just stay at the bar. The bartenders were very attentive to our needs and made sure we were good with everything. Now the food...we all ordered something different and it came out individually. which was alright since we were sitting at the bar and not at a table. Best food and well worth the wait. The chicken basket with fries comes with one side, but the best thing is it was enough chicken for two people. It's a whole 1/2 a chicken, tender, juicy and crispy!! Everyone in our party raved about the food. We were all stuffed...there was no room for dessert. As we left the hostess Thanked us for being understanding and flexible. All I have to say is Thank you for allowing us to take up the space at your bar and offering us a perfect start to a wonderful night out on the town.

After waiting 2 hours to be seated, we waited about 20 mins before we were greeted by the waitress. We could see that she was one of 2 or 3 waitresses that were working during the busy time. I ordered the catfish and Mac and cheese, chicken and waffles for the kids and my mother ordered chicken and greens. The Mac and cheese and greens were cold, my fish was greasy. We informed the waitress who was very apologetic, I felt so bad for the waitress because she appeared so overwhelmed. Would I go back absolutely not.

Good work friends in from Chicago out for dinner. Great ribs and Southern flair. We got into the small restaurant before a big rush. Nice wait staff, but they do get busy.

They were out of several menu items at 5:00 PM on a Sunday. I had smothered pork chops with yams and collard greens. The portion size was large so I brought more than half home. My friend had the shrimp and grits entrée and the grits were like soup. The waitress said that is how they serve their grits. The sweet tea is SWEET with free refills. Our server was nice and polite.

Okay, I must admit, while I knew about Ms. Tootsie's as we've been there for dinner and events we've always overlooked it for Brunch... We will NOT be making that mistake again! The food was excellent, they have a special menu for Sunday Brunch that is genuine Brunch...as a fan of southern soul food I was able to get Salmon, eggs, bacon and collard greens! It may sound like an odd "mix" to some but for us such it the point of Brunch! With a great mix of traditional breakfast dishes and soul food the selections were well varied. And about the cocktails, VERY well done. Nice selection beyond Mimosa's and Sangria (and yes, they do offer a "Bottomless" Mimosa!). Finally, which for the Wife is perhaps a key point. As fans of Gotham (NYC-Brooklyn/Manhattan/Queens) we are accustomed to such great quality Brunch options well in to the afternoon/early evening and we have been consistently disappointed with the Philly restaurant scene where good Brunch options are always booked through their limited hours, typically ending 2:00-3:00pm (we even have a few go-to Diners that serve nice cocktails and breakfast all day as back-ups)... Well not Ms. Tootsies! Their Brunch goes to 5:00pm and in an atmosphere that projects plush and upscale. We will "sleep" on Brunch at Ms. Tootsie's no more...

My daughter and I were visiting Philly and looking around for good food, when we happened upon Ms. Tootsie's on Google Maps. We were intrigued by the menu, so decided to give it a try. We were absolutely not disappointed! Cesily took care of us... TOTALLY took care of us! She helped us with the menu options and made recommendations which were completely spot on!! They call it Soul Food and they are not lying! Cesily and Ms Tootsie's are absolutely THE BEST!!!

My husband and I went here for the fried chicken - and we were pretty disappointed. It was pretty flavorless and didn't taste much different from the frozen fried chicken you buy at the supermarket. The fries were delicious though. They don't take reservations - so we went on an off-night - Tuesday - but still had a 45 minute wait. We weren't permitted to wait at the bar because they said it was full. Very disappointing! The service was very slow - but our server was very polite and hardworking. The whole dinner took way too long - including the wait to be seated, the wait for food, and driving around for parking - over three hours. We won't be returning.

Boy did I luck up.........I managed to treat my Mother, Sister and a friend from work during a promotion time and I must tell you the food was to die for....and I'm talking about for an 80+ year older! The restaurant is fabulous, service was only to helpful and to think I didn't do the cooking myself, OMG!!...... I've invited others (16 confirmed) to join me again today!!

Very nice place. Service was well, but very over priced. I went for my bday and it was an okay atmosphere. When my food came it looked great but it had so much salt in it i couldnt enjoy it. Everything taste like heavy-duty salt... i feel i developed high blood pressure after eating there.. my next problem was the door the waitresses and waiters were coming out of (kitchen area) was very dirty...nasty,. And my bill was 87$, for 4 wings mac n chezze/ 1 peice of tolopia, 5 jumbo shirmp, candy yams mac n cheeze. And 1 glass of ice tea, 87 smh,, wish i went somwhere else,,

Darn, this food is good! One of my dearest friends and her husband was in Philly for a few days. I suggested that we dine at Ms. Tootsie’s. I live in South Jersey so I don’t come here often but it’s a treat when I do come. She was annoyed because she made a reservation online and they didn’t have it when we arrived. They said we had to wait 45 minutes. That was fine with me because I hadn’t seen her in a year and I knew the time would go by quickly with us talking. I believe they seated us within 30 minutes. They took us all the way upstairs. It looked like a VIP room with very dim lights. The waitress was very nice, courteous and attentive. She kept us apprised of where they were with our food. I ordered the fried catfish, yams and string beans. First, let me back up and bow down for that cornbread muffin and strawberry jam! This is the only place I’ve ever been that makes tastier cornbread than me. OMG! The meal did not disappoint! Everything was good. My friends cleaned their plates! She kept saying how good her food was and how this was homemade and not out of a can. Her hubby ordered 2 deserts to go! No one had any complaints. This isn’t a place to frequent if you’re trying to lose weight or are on a low-carb diet. The food didn’t take long. Everything was excellent! Here’s one odd thing, the bathroom is unisex. So don’t be alarmed. I will be back! Hopefully this year. If you haven’t eaten here, you’re missing out!

Well this restaurant was pleasing from start to finish! My wife and I was looking for somewhere to have what we would consider home cooked Soul food so decided to eat here. We arrived to be seated immediately by a very polite Hostess at a suitable table by the open wall. Our server was not far behind and was very helpful in explaining the menu as it was our first time dining there. Without getting into a lot of details I will just say that we thoroughly enjoyed our meals, the atmosphere and the experience. This place is a must for anyone visiting Philadelphia and looking for a Soul Food restaurant. We will for sure be going back for another taste!

My best friend and I were invited to an afterwork party at Miss Tootsie's last Friday. We arrived at about 8:30. The setup of the restaurant/lounge is nice, but a simple re-arrangement of space would probably be beneficial. The first floor holds the main restaurant and a sizeable bar. The second floor is a very comfortable and large waiting area that also holds 5 unisex bathrooms. The third floor holds a dining area suitable for large parties and private parties. The fourth floor is split at the top of the stairs, with a bar on the left and a private room (where the afterwork party was held) on the right. The whole building is very clean and nicely decorated. The ambiance in this place is beautiful. The after work party was awesome with a DJ, comfortable seating, and appetizers. The bars are both nice but not the most well stocked. They had already run out of some wines and liquors at 9:00 on a Friday night. You can't keep a business running successfully like that. I ordered a glass of Savignon Blanc and received about four ounces in a plastic cup for $10. I don't mind paying for quality...but this was not the case. When the after work party came to a close at 10p.m., my friend and I decided to go downstairs to the host and put our names on the list for dinner. We were told that the wait would be 45 minutes. We did not understand this because we saw many open tables. After 30 minutes, I questioned the host and he said that he was just waiting for approval from the manager and the kitchen and then he would seat more people. I also overheard an employee say that the kithchen was short handed that night. The people standing next to us said they had reservations and still had to wait an hour. Another 30 minutes passed, and we were about to leave. As we were about to walk out the door...surprise...they have a table for us. Ok, we decide to stay because we are tired, hungry and far from home. Our server came over quickly to take our drink orders and our food orders. We both ordered fried chicken with potato salad and collard greens. When I started eating, I was immediately thankful that we decided to stay. This was one of the best meals I have had in a restaurant in a long time...absolute perfection. Our server was also very efficient and courteous. Needless to say he received a 30% tip. The food at Miss Tootsies is to die for. I am just afraid that their service issues will be their demise. I would hate for this to happen because this restaurant is truly a treasure. I know I will be back, wait and all. I don't say this often but, it was worth the inconvenience.

Ms. Tootsie's does have a nice ambiance suitable for a date or a night out with your girlfriends, but the customer service we experienced was horrible. Case in point, my gilfriends and I (party of 6) waited patiently by the door for our table when we decided to sit, as we had heels on, it was 30 degrees outside, and the place is only so big. One of the employees (please be mindful that we waited by the door for 35 minutes) came over and said that the the table where we were sitting was reserved. No problem. We'll just move back to the door since our table is being cleaned and we'll be seated in less than five mins. Unfortunately, the employee whomever he was, insisted on telling us it was a fire hazard, we can't stand here, you have to go outside or next door, which baffled us since we just waited for 35 mins by the door without being rudely asked to leave. Ultimately, to make a long story short, the employee was very rude, and he left the restaurant to go next door and get security to escort us out of building. A move that was readily unnecessary, as we left the building never to return. I will never go to Ms. Tootsie's again. Very rude employees, not to mention that the restaurant lost over $100.00 that night since it was six ppl in our party. I was tempted to contact L&I to inform them of the one exit situation but I opted not to. I will just never return.

Was there for Sunday brunch celebrating my husband's birthday with 6 of our friends. The food was AWESOME! The portions were great! Loved the atmosphere, DJ, and decor! Friendly staff! Warm environment! The birthday song was great! It was a bit of a challenge trying to reach someone by phone however. I was expecting to get a call confirming our reservation the day before. I actually received the confirmation call the day of. That kinda had me on edge. I wanted everything to go well for my husband's birthday and it did. Will definitely return!!!!

We visited tootsie‘s restaurant a few times over the years. Yet, last year we were not pleased with our entrees’. We decided to give a try again July 4 for the holiday, the tilapia, yams & spicy cabbage was delicious. I asked to have my tilapia grilled to a crisp and it was perfect. My sister enjoyed the catfish and their collard greens & mac cheese. In my opinion the collards & mac cheese were bland. My husband was not impressed with his entree which was mac & cheese, black eye peas, shrimp & grits. The ambiance is lovely & the waitress was friendly. We were given 3 muffins & were advised if you want additional muffins there is a charge of 75 cents for each additional muffin. I think that is a bit drastic for a muffin hmmmmm..On the hand the signature tea is refreshing and I love it.

Soul Food at its best. This restaurant was the top of the line for soul food cooking. It remind you of the way your Mon or Grandmother use to cook. The Staff was very well dress and made you feel at home. I had Southern Fried Chicken with collard greens with rice and gravy w/ corn bread cook soul food style.

Based on the wonderful experience I had at Ms. Tootsie's several months ago, I was excited to share the experience with my cousin. We arrived at Ms.Tootsie's at 5:30 p.m. and were immediately seated. The first distraction was the amount of flies zooming around the establishment. We spent the first few minutes swatting them from our faces and silverware. Our waiter, Brandon, arrived and introduced himself. He was very pleasant. Immediately, he told us that the credit card machine was down and if we needed money to walk a block over to the ATM. That's what I did. Upon my return, Brandon informed us that there were several items there were not avaialble: salmon, shrimp, Ms. Tootsie Pop wings, waffle iron wasn't functioning properly (I lost count). Wow! A restaurant out of so many items. We placed our orders and waited patiently. First, came the cornbread and strawberry butter. Delicious as always. The buffalo wings were divine until my cousin found two feathers in hers. When the meals arrived, the were very good. I had smothered pork chops w/ rice and collard greens. The greens were divine, but the smothered pork chops lacked some flavor. My cousin enjoyed the sauteed fish and black eyed peas. Here's the bottom line. It was an okay experience. Nothing to brag about. The server was great and the food was good. Ms. Tootsie's has an upscale feel, but is very inconsistent as other reviewers have noted. For about half the price, double the flavor, and triple the portions, you can go to Corrine's Place in Camden, NJ and get great soul food. It's not nearly as fancy as Ms. Tootsie's, but buy yourself some take out and create your own atmosphere at home.

I have visited Ms. Tootsie's twice, once with my girlfriends and once with my family. I will say that the restaurant has great ambiance. The service is average, nothing great but standard at best. On my first trip, the restaurant was over-crowded and we waited about 30 minutes to be seated. The food came out fast and was hot. It was well seasoned and I really enjoyed it. I ordered fried chicken wings and macaroni and cheese. It was some years ago that I first visited, so I don't remember much else. On my second time around, I visited with my family (4 adults, 2 children). This is not a family friendly establishment. I don't know why I didn't remember that. It is more for a girl's or guy's night out or a romantic dinner. The lighting is dim and I believe there is soft music playing. I could be wrong about that, but that's how my memory is recalling it. I ordered the same meal, fried chicken and mac and cheese. The chicken was heavily salted, and left much to be desired. The drink was extremely sweet and unappealing. I don't believe that any one in my party enjoyed their meal. We waited about 45 minutes to be seated, and there is no real waiting area. Once here, you are right into the dining room and if you stand there to wait, its going to get real uncomfortable for you and the people seated....QUICKLY. The food certainly is not worth the money that you pay. I think of myself as a great home chef, so I know how much a tray of chicken and a box of mac and cheese costs, and I think I was robbed. I have heard of paying for labor, but I don't believe the labor was that intensive. This is a restaurant that I would recommend for just a nice quiet evening. The food is hit or miss, but it is worth a try if you are in the area. It is nothing that I would adventure off to go to, but if I'm in the area, I would return.

The atmosphere in this RESTAURANT IS RELAXING AND EXILARATING AT THE SAME TIME. Love is the primary ingredient in these delectable menu items and those drinks ......OOOOOLAAAALAAA. My granddaughter celebrated her17th birthday with 19 CAPA AND ELEONE DANCE friends. You know teens are our greatest CRITICS.........they were ELATED by the service and special attention they felt. . I'VE dined alone at the bar I never felt alone ROBBIE at the bar is very entertaining with great conversation.....KEVIN PARKER should be commended on assembling a great staff. GO YOU WILL ENJOY!!!

The service was slow. We arrived at 4:30 and they were out of potato salad, peach Cobbler, sweet potato pound cake, or sour cream pound cake. We've been waiting about 20 minutes for our check. They did not take reservations by phone but you can submit online. Jules the bar tender was cool.

Was in Philly to visit our son and to celebrate my husband's 4th of July birthday; though we were staying at the Embassy Suites in Center City (full breakfast included), we wanted to do a Sunday brunch; our son does not really do "brunch" and didn't have any ideas regarding where to go, so our daughter searched online and found this place. She hit the jackpot with this find! For her, I think the draw was the limitless mimosas, ha!. Anyway, we loved the "chic vibe" of the restaurant and the food was just off the charts good! We all very much enjoyed our meal and because everything our table ordered looked good, I did a taste test from my son's and daughter's meals (perks of being a mom, LOL!). Absolutely surprised at how awesome the collard greens were! After our meal, our son admitted he had been missing out (he is still somewhat new to the area); this restaurant is definitely on his radar now and I am sure he may become a "brunch person". LOL!!! Our waitress/server was nice and attentive; when we got the ticket, she put lollipops on out table; it took me a minute to make the connection - the lollipops were really Tootsie Roll pops! :o)

The food was delicious - when I was ALLOWED to eat. Ms. Tootsie's is NO LONGER a restaurant!!! It is a bar at which one is forced to drink, until for the trolls for the bar owner determines that enough funds have been collected from imbibing to be granted the right to eat. I ate here when it was really a restaurant. No reservations are allowed. When my friend and I arrived, we were sat at the bar indefinitely, and i have never been a drinker, so I hungrily sipped water for two hours with a gigantic speaker blasting my ear drums into dysfunction. The dining room was empty the entire time. About 14 out of 15 tables were empty for our two hour bar sentence. was the two hour starvation and the obnoxious hostess worth the wait? NO!!!

Ms Tootsie’s restaurant is amazing. The atmosphere is really chic and nice. The food is very delicious and the service is phenomenal. Everyone that works there is really pleasant and Ms Tootsie comes around herself to make sure everyone is enjoying their meal. I wish we had one in New York. The wait time is at least 30 minutes during peak time but it is well worth the wait. The portions are large and filling. I had the catfish with collard greens and Mac and cheese and my husband has the jumbo shrimp and grits with potato salad and candied yams. Ms Tootsie’s is true soul food at its finest! If your in the Philadelphia area, make sure you stop by.

The atmosphere and the food was awesome. Service was friendly, and excellent. Parking was a little tough. I could come to this restaurant every month. Loved it!

The day before I left Philly, I went to this restaurant for their Sunday brunch. The night before, 3 friends of mine had gone here, but it was so crowded they ordered their food to go and ended up eating it cold. Even so, they RAVED about it. The next day three of us went and ordered half of the menu. There were NO disappointments! But In especially recommend the salmon, collards, mac and cheese and “Grown Folks Drink” ! Finding parking may be a challenge, but it’s worth it!

I went to Philly for a weekend in mid-September to meet up with a girlfriend from high school. I found Philly to be a wonderful city with many great things to do. We toured the historic sites and did a little shopping on Market Street. I found Ms. Tootsie's on-line, my friend said she'd eaten there before and enjoyed the food. We headed there the Saturday night. The restaurant is small so we expected to wait. Unfortunately, the two hosts working were not about the business of doing business. We waited for over an hour, all the while, parties who came after us were seated first. We inquired but were given some elementary response. Finally, when there was no one else on the sidewalk waiting for a table, we were seated. The group of 5 friends we found out there waiting for a table were not as lucky. They were told perhaps 10 minutes before we got our table, the restaurant would not be able to seat them for dinner - because of yet another elementary response. The gentlemen could have been professional to tell the ladies at the outset instead of letting them wait. Worst yet, the ladies did ask a few time but were told they'd get a table. Again the food was delicious and I'd consider eating there again. However, if those two guys curly-haired guys are out there literally playing host, I'd think twice.

My husband had a very pleasant visit loved the atmosphere and the food was fantastic. We arrived around noonish and was seated right away. We chose the Tilapia and Catfish as our entrees with a side of Collard Greens, Cabbage, Yams and the ever so delicious Lobster Mac and Cheese. Everything was good; however, collards could use a little less salt. Our server Rita was great she was very knowledgeable and gave great suggestions on food choices. A must try is the Grown Folks Iced Tea a cocktail with a modern twist on the old fashion LIT. This was our second time visiting the restaurant (was there last year) and I must say our second visit was much better than the first. We will definitely be making another trip to Ms Tooties in the very near future.

I'm a Philadelphian so I feel awkward giving a hometown restaurant a mediocre/poor review. Ok... If you like good soul food and can careless about customer service then this might be the place for you. My boyfriend and I dined here Aug 2013. The Host didn't acknowledge us waiting at the door.. We watched them stand at the back podium holding a conversation until they felt like coming to sit us. Once we got seated the waiter gave us menus and came back about 20mins later to ask if we knew what we wanted. No water as we waited or anything. This isn't the first time we experienced this. And I noticed how one host had a attitude towards other hosts.. He was tall, slim and flamboyant and pranced around snapping his fingers at his co-workers and when they would try to help him he would look at them as to say.. Um I know what I'm doing.. Not a welcoming place.. Few other things I didn't like.. They served us hot iced teas.. Waiters ate with their fingers behind the bar and they touched our straws at the tip.. Overall I give the food 8/10 but the service is 2/10 some waiters/waitress and host were helpful others weren't do great.. We will not be returning.

Don't get the hype for this place. Asked server what we must get - mac and cheese. Came lukewarm, cold, clumpy, dried out, tasteless. Fast to tell us fried chicken was Robert Irvine's Best I've Eaten choice - don't know why. Mediocre at best. And shrimp and grits - how about some descriptions on the menu. I've had shrimp and grits in the south on many occasions and it's never been breaded and fried. It is here so that was a surprise. 4 shrimp and 2 large bowls of gummy, tasteless lukewarm grits and the tasteless cheese on top didn't even begin to melt. Collard greens had no taste and were barely warm. Sweet potato cheesecake - no distinctive taste. Definitely not worth the money and wouldn't go back.

We walked to Tootsie's from our downtown Marriott hotel. We had to try this Southern cooking and it was good for the soul. The chicken, fish, greens, cornbread, mac and cheese, was a good change up during our trip.

I heard a lot from my kids about this restaurant but sadly I was not as impressed as they were. I had smothered chicken, Mac and cheese and collard greens. It didn’t take a long time. The restaurant is a little tight. Tables are close together in the side building. Server was very pleasant. Chicken was cooked well but could have been seasoned a little more. Portions were adequate. Bread was very delicious. I would go back.

Ms. Tootsie's offers a solid soul food meal. I have been here several times and have always been pleased. This time we visited for Mother's Day and enjoyed their pri fixed menu. Menu began with salad or fruit, a seafood trio appetizer, entrée was choice of fried chicken, ribs, salmon, or lamb chops, and ended with dessert. The highlights were the crab cake in the trio, the fried chicken, and the lamb chops. We all tried the pound cake for dessert and everyone agreed it was the best pound cake any of us had ever tasted. I was a bit disappointed with the sides. The lobster mac & cheese had not a single piece of lobster in it and the greens were way too salty. The restaurant was a bit busy but overall the service was good! I would definitely recommend Ms. Tootsie's. It is one of, if not the best, soul food restaurants in Philadelphia!

This past weekend I went to Ms Tootisie's and my experience was great. The wait time was no longer 10 minutes, the service was great, and the food was even better. I recommend the chicken and waffles alongside their famous iced tea. Everything was lovely, however the only complaint I have is the table I had which was right near the dish room door, but that was minor and didn't affect my night. Overall, this restaurant is great and i think every person seeking some soul food should attend.

I took my husband for his birthday the day after Christmas. The seating is too close for comfort for me. The table next to us was talking so loud we can barely hear ourselves talk. I ask the waiter to seat us to another table which was located upfront next to the door and we were fine. The waiter/hostess gave great services. We ordered the Catfish platter and Talipia Platter and the fish was delicious and the sides sweet potatoes and cabbage was large portions and very tasty. We also had the famous Ice Tea was good but pricey for $5. I would come back on special occasion if I was in the Philadelphia area.

I made reservations for my wife's birthday nine days in advance and they weren't confirmed until about three days before the date. We had a long wait, (15 minutes to be seated) and an hour before our food was served; however, the food there is very good! Not sure if I would go again anytime soon only because it took forever to eat. Ambience was very nice as well, wish we had been able to catch some live entertainment.

Okay, 2.5 hours to be seated, which is long, but I figured it would be worth it. When we got there, we asked before ordering to split the check, but the waiter didn't, and they forgot to make us one of the entrees we ordered, so we said not to worry about it. The food was okay, but the chicken was burnt. You know when fries chicken gets overcooked and the meat dries out? I got the receipt, we were charged for an entree and an extra side, and there was a bottom portion where you could chose the percentage of gratuity to give to the waiter from 10% and up, however, the waiter ripped it off (not well enough for me to not see the label "select gratuity") and gave himself a 30% tip. no. rude.

Ive been here more than 5 times. The portion size is great, but food is ok. Either way it is way overpriced. Great ambiance was great for a date. The staff could be a lot more attenentive to your dining needs. To be such a chic place its quite embarassing when your waiter/waitress shoves dinner napkins or door stops under the table leg so that the table no longer wobbles. Will I return for the lobster mac and cheese...yes (even though its described as cheesey mac which it is not).

After viewing the TV show- The Best Thing I ever ate- Fried Chicken. I planned a trip to Ms. Tootsie’s Restaurant in PA. I went on a Thursday evening to avoid the weekend rush. When we arrived, we were told that the wait was 1 hour…but they would take our cell phone number and call us if a table become available sooner. About 30 mins later…we received the call and we had 15 mins to get back to the restaurant. When we arrived, we still had to wait. The dining room is very small. They have other rooms available, but they are not open during the week. The service was slow. We had to wait a while for our food (reason given was that they had a large party at the restaurant). After waiting a while for a waiter, Tiffany finally came over and asked if we been helped yet. Nope…so she took care of us. She was very nice, and she helped us make our menu selections since we were first timers. Food: The food was very good. I had the Southern Fried Chicken (breast and wing). My chicken was cooked to perfection and the skin was nice and crispy. The sides were small. I have the mac n cheese and the candy yams (we only received 2 and 1/2 slices). The corn bread was wonderful with the strawberry butter. My sister didn’t order a meal, instead she ordered two appetizers, chicken and waffles and the crab mac n cheese balls. She didn’t like the chicken and waffles, because they had green leafy lettuce on the bottom of the plate, and it was taking away from the taste of the waffles. She ended up sending this item back and replacing it with Ms. Tootsie Pop wings. I didn’t love them and they took forever to come. We ended up taking them to go. But, I did try one before we left the restaurant. Not worth the hype. But, the one thing I did love was the Crab Mac N’Cheese Balls. Yummy. It’s not like a Maryland crab cake…but it was a nice change off. As mentioned before, service was slow, we had to get our Ms. Tootsie Pop wings to go, because most of the parking in the area has a 2 hour limit, and we had to get back to the car…we didn’t want any parking tickets. Parking authority doesn’t play in PA. Overall, I enjoyed the food and would go back again. I just know that they are on Island time.

Went with a group, the music and overall atmosphere was very relaxing. The wait staff was excellent and free refills were at your table before you could even ask. Food was not overpriced and portions were large. GREAT RESTAURANT will come back soon.

The service was wonderful. The food was absolutely delicious, even the cornbread with the specialty butter. The bartender was generous with his pour. Nice atmosphere. The menu is reasonably priced and offers some traditional soul food favorites. Will eat there next time I am in Philly

A great menu - fabulous appetizers, great fried chicken, excellent service and ambiance. I can't wait to go back for seconds.......

Stopped by for dinner on Saturday night, 3/19. Was seated quickly, walked in, and was probably one of the first guests since we arrived right at 5. Ashley, the hostess was fantastic, very pleasant and happy to do her job. The next Ashley, our waitress, was fantastic. She was attentive, pleasant and funny. We truly would request her on our next visit to Ms Tootsie's. Now, the food. We ordered crab balls and tootsie pop (chicken drumette) and they were both really tasty. The chicken was very crispy, the way we both like it. I ordered the smothered pork chops, mac & cheese with lobster and greens and friend ordered the smothered wings, mac & cheese and cabbage. The chops, wings and mac & cheese was great, loved the different cheeses used in the mac & cheese. There was tiny bit of lobster so next time, I wouldn't order it due to amount and $$ of upcharge. Now, the one complaint we both had was SALT. Both our greens had way too much salt (could have been the seasoning meat used along with more salt). The gravy for the chops was on the salty side but I peppered it down and it wasn't as bad. Overall, the food was plentiful and we would go back. We did pass our "salt" complaint on to the waitress and the hostess and hope they passed it to the cook. Oh yeah, the corn muffins were great along with the strawberry butter...I ate it all up. :)

I went to Ms. Tootsie's on a Sunday. The menu is limited to brunch items only and there wasn't much of a selection. I got the chicken and cheese omelette and substituted my home fries for grits. The fruit that came with it included watermelon and pineapple, which was fine with me because I like both kinds of fruit. Creamy, delicious grits. And the omelette was really good. The chicken was a bit salty, but overall good. I gave them 4 instead of 5 because they opened at 12, but were still setting up so we had to wait on the sidewalk for like 35-40min before they let anyone inside. The inside is beautiful. I'll definitely go back when I am in Philly.

Last thursday i visited ms. Tootsies off the ave on the arts for a bite and some cocktails. I was greeted by a youthful very polished hostess who offered us a table although we opted to rest at the bar for the evening. The barkeep was bubbly and explained cocktails as she crafted a creative version of a long island iced tea garnished with a watermelon wedge. The manager Dantae brought ua complimentary warm cornbread muffins with STRAWBERRY butter! It was delicious. For dinner we indulged in the country fried chicken suggested by the barkeep as a award winning dish. That too was delicious. To top off the evening we had a couple healthy glasses or red wine. The lighting, contemporary decor, and neo soul playing softly in the background made me so comfty that a quick bite turned into a 3 hour visit. I will most definitely come to Ms. TOOTSIES again!!

This restaurant gives you a great mis of modern with classic soul food, special touches like strawberry butter for the corn bread, watermelon slices for the the iced tea, good cocktails and great recipes for the mac and cheese and greens. I didn't love the fried choices, but that's never my first choice. Great atmosphere, great service, good food. I would definitely go again. Also, waitress was so nice she waited for me to purchase an online restaurant.com coupon!!

If you're going to splurge on calories (and push your cholesterol levels) this is the place that's WORTH the risk. Starters that are MUSTS are the Catfish Fingers and the Crab Mac-n-Cheese Balls (we were skeptical about these when are server recommended, but, we all about swooned after a bite). We all ordered the fried chicken for dinner - absolutely the best I've had in many, many years - freshly done, light and crispy without being overly greasy. The sides are equally pleasurable. The smothered greens with smoked turkey were a meal in itself and the candied yams were fabulous. I'm not a sweet tea fan, but, my daughter pronounced theirs was the best she's ever had. I ordered the "Grown Folks Iced Tea" - yummy, but REALLY strong. I saw that other reviewers complained about their servers or the atmosphere. Maybe we were just lucky, but, our server was absolutely charming and helpful. And we loved the decor as well - not so into the screens behind the bar playing music videos, but I'm sure younger generations find them fun. We'll definitely return - I want to try the smothered pork chops!

Sooo, where do I start?? Went to "Ms. Tootsies" Easter Saturday. Arrived approx. 5:10ish...a few ppl outside but not a lot. Was told the wait was 45 min. Really? Empty tables, wait staff hanging around but a 45 min. wait? Ok, 45 min. turned to 1 hour and a half. Needless to say my jaws were tight!! The service was absolutely pitiful!! My face was twisted the entire time and no one, NOT ONE employee asked if I was ok or if they could help. One staff member was walking around with his tablet fishing for email addresses - - not a chance was I giving up my e-address. Finally, finally, I asked to speak to the male manager who, earlier, promised he would seat us right away. He came to us and without conversation ushered us upstairs to a waiting table. It didn't take long for the food to come and it was hot, fresh and good, not great; however, the loss of appetite was in full affect b/c of the lack of customer service and long wait. In the interim, there was lipstick on one of the drinking glasses...WTFrk is going on, "Tootsie". WHY? We have got to do better.....this is one of the reasons it's sooo difficult to support AA businesses....if you don't care or take pride in your customer base, you won't have a business. I could go on and on about that evening but feel I've said enough. Will I ever return, or will I ever refer a friend, NO!! Absolutely NOT!! First impression is a lasting one. I won't give them a chance to ignore or aggravate me again. BTW, the place is not upscale...it lacks decor and the carpet was covered with crumbs and very noticeable dirt. The food was good...not great.

Let me first start out by saying i've eaten at some very high end and well known resturants from napa valley to New Orleans and this place is at least a top 5 place. if you like southern style cooking it's a must try. i had the catfish and my co-worker had the fried chicken. both were cook just right and seasoned exellent. the sweet tea was the best i've ever had, i'm highly allergic to apples so after a few sips i could tell there was apple in it so i had to stop drinking it (i almost just went ahead and dealt with an upset stomach all night bc it was so good). their deserts were also really good. i had the lemon pound cake. i really wanted to try the sweet potato cheesecake, but sadly they were out. this place is almost worth a trip in Philly if you are in the area and craving some soul food.

So when I come to Philly I always go to Reading terminal at get my cookies and my soul food from Keven Parker Soul Food Cafe. Well when we arrived in Philly we were full so I ask what time did they close and if location on South Street (Ms.Toosties) was the same and was the food the same. The gentleman behind the counter said yes. I was happy about that. So we get to Ms. Toosties on South street, cute place I could eat here. We sat at the bar and order on Wednesday they have two for $25 on select dishes. We ordered the barbecue wing as an appetizer. The wings were awesome. I ordered the fried chicken because I have ordered it before and was never disappointed. I also ordered candied yams, greens and mac and cheese. Chicken was dry and not seasoned well, greens were hard like they were dipped in hot water, candied yams dry three dried yams no candy and mac and cheese was not good at all. I was so upset because I expected more and got less.

I have been here years ago way before all the hype was created. The food was better back then. However I recently went to a dinner party that was suppose to start at 10 we weren't seated until 11 and Didn't get out good until 12:42 to be exact. I ordered the lamb which was perfect, Mac and cheese and the string beans that had no taste at all. Our waiter was very friendly when he did come around which was only to take our order, bring drinks and then bring food. After the long wait I just wanted to take my good to go. Very disappointed in the wait and service. It will be a long time before I go back although my food was good.

A group of us went for a brunch. We all had to register according to the evite so there would be room. The evite listed bottomless mimosas and light snacks for $20. There were 4 in our party but we rsvp'ed for 5. We were also celebrating a birthday. Well of course when we got there, no parking.. now that is not the restaurant's fault so that part im ok with. But the restaurant itself was a mess. We showed our emails but was told there was a 2-3 hour wait. When asked why did we reserve space the hostess alleged they knew nothing about it. Every room was over packed and people who were not eating were allowed to sit at tables for over 3 hours. This event was horribly organized and they kept allowing people to come in. Now for the drinks you paid $20.00 for bottomless mimosas, well that would have been a great deal if, it wasn't 1 bartender servicing 80 people 1 glass at a time. Yes so basically we had to stand, while trying to get the bartenders attention for a refill, along with 80 others. I will say the bartender was actually very nice and did her best. This was on the 3rd floor. Now as too the seating. Our party got there at 1:55 and was told at that time there was an hour and a half wait. Um yea we were seated at almost 5:00. They were supposed to call you when a table was ready but if you missed the call then you missed your table. Well I witnessed the hostess having to go outside to make the calls because the noise level was just that loud so how did they expect the guest to hear their phones or even feel it vibrate. Why did we stay you ask? Because we had already spent $80.00 on the brunch for mimosas. We finally did get a table and when the food came out it was not as expected. I mean it was good. Heck great but $15.00 for 4 chicken wings and a waffle? Im not sure if we picked the wrong event to attend or what but I don't think I will be going back. The crowd was very young, it was very disorganized, the wait was horrific, and the prices were ridiculous. What was promised on the evite was not delivered and no one seemed to care and I was unable to reach a manager.

but what a disaster - so much potential but my best friend's dinner turned out to be a night of Murphy's law. I did everything by the books used the website made a reservation and spoke with someone after they called to confirm that it was her surprise birthday and half the group (8 people) were going to have dinner and another 8-10 people would join us after as long as the lounge was open. I was assured there is rooftop area with a DJ and they're accustomed to large parties everything would be taken care of and we would have a wonderful time. Now, as a native New York maybe I'm just biased/have high expectations of what upscale southern cooking should be as a frequent diner at Amy Ruth's, The Harlem Tavern, and The Red Rooster. Upon arriving I do admit 1 girl bailed last minute but we had 7 people there ready and on time that would not be seating and were stuck waiting in the small vestibule of an entrance. We asked to be seated so we could start ordering drinks (we are all in our mid 20s and were looking to spend the night out) and we would wait for another girl who could rush over sooner and meet us for dinner. We were told No couldn't be done and just they ushered us upstairs to an empty hall/room in front of the bathroom. 25 minutes later...they came up and were surprisingly nicer and ready to seat us (as we finally realized they weren't actually expecting us to show up and when we did they had to scramble which is why they wouldn't seat us earlier). So much for seating us it took 35 minutes to get water and 45 minutes to get our only drinks of the evening. As we sat there the CDs playing in a room (with lights that kept flickering and getting really bright to suddenly be very dim gave my best friend a headache as she suffers from chronic migraines) kept skipping. When I asked what time the upstairs would be open the waiter looked at me dumbfounded and said we don't have a DJ. Needless to say i had to blast text everyone else not to bother coming since there was now no point. We did have a later reservation so we were all hungry said we were ready to just order our meals after we were told cornbread would be coming out (which ended up coming out 5 minutes before the food). Apparently it takes 30-35 minutes to fry a chicken breast (really wish i were making up that we were told that). When the food finally did come it was both cold and bland and not to mention everything was breaded and fried (at some point that day because we definitely got reheated food) with the same heavy tasteless thick batter. [Side-note: I clearly told the waiter I was lactose intolerant and have a gluten allergy so I asked if the shrimp was plain on the grits and was assured they were - fast forward to me getting breaded shrimp and cheese covered "grits" no idea what those were that they served me because they were terrible - also asked for a side of green beans and ended up with collard greens I guess I'm white I wasn't supposed to know the difference.] We asked for items repeatedly hot sauce, salt, napkins, drinks, and boxes at the end of the meal and just got a consistent yeah yeah yeah and attitude from our waiter that was just the nail in the coffin for our dinner. I will say they tried to make up for the ridiculously long wait for our food by offering up free vodka shots which is nice but in the 3 hours we were there we would have much preferred to have just ordered our own drinks (with rum which is what we prefer and I can actually drink without going to the hospital). All in all is was an overpriced night for very underwhelming food and poor service. We would have all been much happier to have paid a bill 3 times the price if only we could have at least gotten another round of drinks. I wish I could offer up more constructive criticism but alas I am not in the restaurant business which is why I go out to eat and be taken care of by people who supposedly are and should know what they're doing.

An overrated restaurant for tourist. The waitress got our orders wrong and the food (cabbage and chicken was bland. The dessert and cornbread were passable. Been to many soul food restaurants throughout the country. Ms.Tootsie had no SOUL

Real deal soul food! Robert irvine was right some of the best chicken I ever ate! Mac and cheese is fantastic. I've tea is ridiculously good. If you want great soul/comfort food come to ms tootsies!

When we entered the restaurant on the snowy evening (10/29/11) after using the valet parking service, I was in awe of the decor and the subtle lighting. The place was beautiful. The atmosphere was wonderful. The crowd was mixed, both adults and children. The hostess took our name and led us up the winding staircase to the 3rd floor seating area. This area was very nice and warm. The plush seating was nice also. I asked where the ladies room was and was instructed to walk down to the next floor. The bathroom was spotless and unisex. As I returned to the third floor, I peeked in a room to the right. It was a large bar area, which seemed to be cosy and romantic. We waited only about 30 minutes and were led to our table which was by the door. It was very cold there, but we remained. My husband ordered the ribs, blackeyed peas and macaroni and cheese. I ordered the catfish and fry appetizer which was very good and filling. The cornbread muffins were slighty burned on the bottoms, but I like mine that way. I wanted to try the greens, but really don't like turkey. The blackeyed peas were okay, as they were prepared with turkey and were not very flavorful. The macaroni and cheese was very dry and did not have that cheddar flavor I was expecting. My husband's ribs were very tender but did not have that smokey grill flavor that is only achieved on an actual charcoal grill. The rum drinks with gingerale were fantastic, but at $12 for them served in rocks glasses was kinda steep. So, I've saved the worst part for last. I ordered the chicken and waffles. The wings are huge, like the ones I prepare myself, but when I broke one apart, it had an awful raw chicken smell. I wasn't sure if it was just me and I couldn't ask my husband as his sense of smell is not great. I tried and tried, but could not eat it. I decided to ask for a carryout box, as I just wasn't sure. The next day, I decided to heat them up in the microwave, but they had that same nauseating smell, just like raw chicken. I decided to just trash them. This could have been a one time incident and when visiting Philly again, I'd definitely go here again. It is a perfect spot for a romantic dinner. We used a $40 LivingSocial coupon which I purchased for $20. The dinner probably would have cost around $80 with the 4 cocktails, but decreased to $50 without the tip.

The food tasted good. The strawberry butter for the cornbread was great. Their signature tropical iced tea was awesome. Nice trendy modern decor.

This was my first time eating there. It's located in the heart of Philadelphia but nicely hidden for a nice, cozy romantic dinner for two or even a get together with friends. This place has all the soul food you could want and plenty of it. The food is well worth the fare. It is a bit small on the first floor, but it also has a 2nd floor for additional seating. The employees make you feel like you are one of the family so go check them out! Time well spent at Ms. Tootsie's.

Came here last year for a convention and this was the one place I fell in love with!!! The food was delicious... I came expecting to be eat the best cheesesteaks and instead I ate yams, turkey wings, chicken & waffles and greens 3 days straight! The Tea with the watermelon was everything!!! When in Philly this is my second home

I arrived and was told it would be a 20 min. wait. After 40 min. I returned to see how much longer. My party of 4 was told a few more minutes. After 10 more minutes we were seated in the front dining area with lots of empty tables surrounding us. It was another long wait for someone to approach our table. In all, it took 1 hour and 5 minutes before our order was taken after being told it was a 20 min. wait. The server was also the bartender. The dark lighting made it difficult to read the menu. We had to use the light on our cell phones to see. The food arrived very quickly, but the service wasn't so great. Many of the extra items we asked for were forgotten..the water, ketchup, one of our alcoholic drinks. The server was very polite, but it appeared he had too much on his plate working behind the bar and attending to our table. I ordered the whiting fish dinner with mac n cheese and greens. The greens were just how I make them at home with smoked turkey and seasoning - not overcooked. The whiting was perfectly fried. The mac n cheese was okay, not as flavorful but enough to fill you up. The orange flavored cornbread muffins were delicious. We all enjoyed the food, but tell us what the true wait time is. We could have gone for a walk instead of standing outside near the door. There are no seats inside the restaurant to wait until your name is called. I would come back. I believe in giving 2nd and 3rd chances. My co-workers weren't so sure.

A flawless restaurant experience, from the host to the dessert. I've never eaten fried chicken cooked so perfectly. It melted in your mouth. The sides were amazing too. Our waitress, Tiffany, was top-notch too. Highly recommend.

Visited Ms Tootsies for diner and was not disappointed. I had fried chicken, black eyed peas and rice and macaroni and cheese. My choices were seasoned to perfection...just right and not too salty. Now, my friends had eaten there the day before and complained that the collard greens were very salty and the candied yams too sweet so I chose to opt for other selections. My food was perfect. Reese, my server, was an absolute pleasure. She checked on us frequently and always with a smile in her voice. I will certainly be a repeat customer!

Great food but the space is soooo limited and it shouldn't be since the waitng area is quadruple the size.

I'm from Mississippi and happen to stop by while lost in the city. Loved the atmosphere, loved decor, loved the blues in the background, and then the food was amazing. Must admit I stole a menu to show add to my collection of places that I enjoyed eating. I've been raving about this place to everyone.

Food was excellent everything i ate was good and special thank to the chef Garron Gardiner better known as G shot gardiner excellent job would go back to eat there anytime....

a bit overpriced but the food is good.

This was a happy ending to a wonderful weekend spent in Philly! While out on a morning stroll, we stumbled upon Ms. Tootsie's. We had heard about it, wanted to visit it and by luck we found it. After our walk, we got dressed and headed back over for 12p for lunch. The food was A MAZ ING! We were offered the infamous iced tea. It was delicious. Mimosas were not on the menu, however, when we requested one our wonderful waiter Chris happily fulfilled our request. The shrimp and grits, smothered turkey chops, collard greens, black eyed peas, okra, corn and tomatoes and the corm muffins and strawberry butter were to die for! The portions were large so there was a lot of food left over but everything we ate tasted amazing. The atmosphere was nice and the music playing in the background was simply perfect for a daytime date and/or relaxation in a public setting. Lastly, keeping true to the name, we received a tootsie roll pop with the bill! All my Philly visits will definitely include a stop to Ms. Tootsie's.

The food there was very good. We started with their fried catfish which was very good. For our entree, we had their signature fried chicken because it was showcased on a food network show. It was delicious. As sides, we had the black eyed peas and collard greens; both were very flavorful; perhaps could do with a little less salt. Our server, Tiffany was very hospitable and attentive; as well as the other wait staff. We were seated in the room next to the main room on the first floor. The deco was simple elegance white with dimmed lighting; creating a warm ambiance. Restaurant is popular; suggest you get their before 6pm.

The food was amazing! We are from the south and have high standards of southern food. Hands down... this was one of the best places we’ve been. I lost my southern grandma 11 years ago and didn’t think I’d ever have food that was as good as grandmas again, this did. Brought me back to my grandmas table on a Sunday after church eating fried chicken, collard greens and potatoes. Highly recommend. Not only was the food amazing but our server Cesily was wonderful!

I saw it on the food channel but they did not do this restaurant justice. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. I'll have to go again and again.

Ms. Tootsies is by far the best restaurant experience I've ever had! The service was wonderful! Never have I ever experienced such great hospitality from the hostess to the person bringing and taking the dishes. We didn't wait long for our meal and the food was served hot and delicious! Not to mention the great atmosphere, such a great place for date night, company events, dinner parties, and simply wanting to enjoy a great meal! I'm already making plans to go back! :)

The hostesses and server were awesome. The food was really good and the portions were more than enough to take some back home. Love the bathroom/social lounge area and they played throwback and newer R&B all night. Great spot.

I went for the first time with a book club. The restaurant was closed and they opened for our event. The food was wonderful!! The drinks were great and kept coming. The service was good as well. I will definitely come back with my husband. The shrimp and grits and sangria were that great!

went in on a thursday evening after work...immediately led to a table around a wall from the main dining area which is small....way too hot back there so we decided to sit at the bar....lots of activity behind and around the bar area...lots of servers chatting and moving back and forth behind the bar....we were told of the specials and placed our order while we watched folk come in and go out with take out orders...my partner's fried whiting was plentiful but he said it didn't taste like whiting to him (?)...seemed pretty flaky and tender from my vantage point...my fried chicken (two pieces of dark meat only) was very salty, but hot and moist...the sides were good though mine were not hot just lukewarm....busy place...busy people.....haven't been there in years....probably will be years before/if i go back....just okay

WOW! What a wonderful meal and the service was just great. The Ice Tea was the BEST. Pork Chops smothered to die for. Thanks to the entire staff for making the evening so memorable.

This is one of those places that you go to once, just to say you've been there. I read and article in the paper about this place and wanted to try them. The atmosphere was not bad and the bathroom was rather clean. We ordered the seafood platter for $35 but I must say it was REALLY SALTY. The Mac & Cheese was nothing special. The wings were not bad, once you got over the size of them. These wings must have come from a rather OBESE chicken. The music that played over the P.A system was the entire CD of an artist from 2009, Ashanti, Tank, Musiq Souldchild etc. They seated us next to this table of “scantily clad” women who were on their cell phones and we had the pleasure of hearing their entire conversations. I did not know that "Cuss my baby daddy out over the phone" was on the menu! When I dine out, the last thing I want to hear is someone elses phone conversation. Once they left, the people after them were no better. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they are located on South Street and that's where the "younger rowdy" crowd hangs out. Would I eat there again?…NO

Came across this and looked interesting. After waiting 30 mins from ordering we asked where our food was, the waitress apologised and said it was on the way, however they had run out of chips. What resturant runs out of chips!! 45 mins and still no food, we then told them we were leaving , they said the food was now ready, BUT they gave our meal to another table. 1 hour later we got our meal, we asked to see the manager who was very apologetic and reduced our bill. When we later read previous reviews it seems waiting is usual in this place, and sadly nothing seems to have improved.

Ms. Tootsie's is definitely my favorite restaurant I've ever been to. The atmosphere was amazing and the staff were all extremely friendly. I got the fried chicken, mac & cheese and candied yams. The food was soooooooo good! They also have a drink called Grown Folks Tea. Best alcoholic drink ever. I will definitely be going back to this restaurant.

The cornbread muffin with strawberry butter was surprisingly delicious. I thought that was a really creative touch to the usual cornbread and butter. Unfortunately, the service was lacking the night I visited but it could’ve been a bad night for the establishment. I enjoyed the decor of the space.

When I first got there w/my family we felt underdressed. We were greeted and seated immediately. Kesha, our server, was attentive to our needs. The sweet tea was too sweet but it was good. We loved the cornbread w/strawberry butter. The menu items looked good so we tried the fried catfish, chicken wings, and smothered turkey chops. My sons enjoyed their meal. The turkey chops left a lot to be desired as they were tasteless. The desserts were the highlight of our meal. The sweet potato cheesecake, chocolate cake, and warm pound cake made it all better. The items were a bit pricey. I've been to Soul Food restaurants where the items were more moderately priced. NOT sure if I'll go back.

Brought my mom here for her birthday. The food was perfect and tasted like authentic soul food. The waitress was so friendly and I loved the music.

First time coming to this restaurant that I keep hearing about. PRO's: Nice ambience with R&B music playing, good portions, our waitress was nice, complimentary cornbread, tasty watermelon martinis. CON's: Parking is tight & it's all metered street parking....food is on the salty side....Friday Happy Hour was supposed to have $5-7 drink specials & appetizers (per their website), but as you can see from the pic of the happy hour menu, that isn't completely accurate.....the site doesn't say you need to have a certain amount of people to dine in the specialty lounge areas, so you either have to be in the tiny bar area (as soon as you walk in) or the Love Lounge - so don't go expecting to enjoy and experience different areas of this eatery, like I expected to. Glad I experienced this place but nothing too outstanding for me to make another trip here.

Had a great time food was great scene was great! Our waitress was great! Chef came out and introduced her self! Beautiful place

looked like a lovely atmosphere but was not open. I checked on line to see hours and was glad I did, every single review was negative, esp service

We went to the Reading Terminal location for lunch since it wad my friend's last weekend in Philly. I had chicken and waffles and was thoroughly impressed. The chicken wings were a nice generous size and juicy, tender and drained to perfection. I the waffles were fluffy and light. I would definitely go back if ever in Philly.

We were traveling thought Philadelphia for our honeymoon, and this place was recommended by the wonderful staff at the Sheraton Hotel Downtown that we were staying at. We walked in and were greeted immediately, the server went to check on a table for us, and came right back to seat us. When you first walk in there is a wonderful atmosphere, very relaxed, black walls, wonderful wood décor, really comfy furniture, and great lighting. The room that we went to dine in was in the back, it looks like they found wonderful leather seat cushions that they placed on the walls, it really made for a really wonderful dining experience, the furniture seems like it was a little dinged up but was still in wonderful condition. All in all this was a very pleasant and it seemed that they atmosphere was designed to make for a wonderful dinning experience, which it totally did. We sat next to 4 young ladies celebrating their 18th birthday, which I was able to find our server and send some cake to them as a happy birthday gesture. I ordered the wings to start with and man were these wings great, they were on the larger side of wings which was fantastic. They also have a wonderful cocktail menu, I suggest the Martinis. I had the Fried Tilapia, with collard greens, asparagus, and mashed potatoes, the wife ordered the shrimp with mac and cheese and fries. Both dishes were amazing, hats of to the kitchen staff. Although our eyes were hungrier than our stomachs, the waitress seemed surprise that we only ate about a third of what we ordered and even asked us if everything was okay, we explained that we just wanted to sample all the wonderful sides they had to offer and were looking for a light bite. She was so wonderful about it. As we were getting ready to walk out, there was a lady from a different table in our section that came over to thank us for buying the four young ladies all chocolate cake, apparently that was their mother and the server mentioned it to her. Even the young girls thanked us. Even as we were walking out, the entire team there was thanking us for coming in. This was truly a wonderful dinning experience and I am excited to return to Philly to come and dine with you again. Thank your staff that worked on Saturday night 1/8/2017.

Very good food but poor service. Waiters seemed disinterested in service and attentiveness. Foxy o service and could be a first rate eatery as location and decor on point.

I had high hopes for this restaurant but from the moment we walked in the door the experience was a disappointment. We walked in the front door and the person greeted us at the door with 'what can we do for you'; not hi welcome to Ms. Tootsie's or Hi are you here for dinner or would you like to go to the bar or something of that sort. We were asked for our mobile number and was told we would be called when our table was ready. We sat at the bar for 25-30 minutes and was seated in the white interior room. We sat for about 10 minutes and no one came over to us. A woman asked if we were ok and we said no, we had not seen our server and no one had been by our table. She got our server whoe came over and procceded to take our order, never apologized for the delay and acted like we were interrupting her time. I believe her name was Keisha. We overheard other serves giving much better service. Our food came, we got the chicken wing platter and the fried tilapia. Both dishes looked great but both were a true disappointment. The fish was horribly bland ( with the help of cocktail sauce I ate one piece but left the other), the marconi & cheese was nothing special, the chicken was just ok. The best part of my meal was the okra & corn side dish, it was very good. Lastly where we were sitting we could see into the kitchen. The entire time lights were flickering in the kitchen and it appeared very dim and we saw outlet wires from the dinning room into the kitchen. Maybe the food was such a let down because the cooks couldn't see since it was dim in there and the dim lights were flickering. The next time I want soul food I will stick with Relish; I have never been disappointed with anything I had there and the service is always excellent. I am grateful that we used a Livingsocial voucher for our meal but even that was way to much money to spend on the food at Ms. Tootsie's.

We arrived at 9:30PM on a Saturday and had no wait to be seated. The food was really good! I had the smothered pork chops with candied yams and okra, corn and tomatoes. My friend ordered the shrimp and grits, but the grits were not good at all! The grits need to be more creamy... they should try to make them with milk, butter and cheese to make them creamy! However, since my friend didn't like the grits, thy offered the option to get something different and ordered the ribs. The ribs were excellent and were so tender they fell right off the bone. When your done your meal, they give you Tootsie Pops... LOL (cute touch hence the name!) Out waitress was Nini who provided wonderful service and was very friendly. The atmosphere was very romantic... the restaurant was lit with candles on each table and ambient low-light lamps. Nice R&B music was playing. The bar drinks were a little pricey... $10 for Kettle One Vodka and Cranberry. They have a nice bar when you first walk in. Unfortunately, the upstairs lounge wasn't open when we went. I would have loved to step upstairs for an after dinner additional cocktail! Next time I'm in Philly, I plan to return to Ms. Tootsie's Restaurant. And, as a bonus, they stay open until 2AM on Saturdays! Very nice sole food restaurant and bar.

We have been going to this restaurant for over a 10 year period. we were on a day trip to Phillie and never miss the chance to eat at Ms. Tootsie's. We had about a 45 minute wait before we were seated. We sat in the love lounge where there are only tables for two. The server came right over and told us that she overheard that we wanted the fruity sweet iced tea and had already put that order in. She then took our food order promptly, brought over the cornbread muffins, which I didn't remember being as good before . We ordered the fried catfish, macaroni and cheese and corn, okra and tomato medley. The catfish melted in our mouth, the macaroni and cheese was nice and buttery and the okra medley was nicely seasoned. The portion sizes were large, which I can always get two meals out of it. They have done extensive remodeling and the place is very swank and classy. It never disappoints, only gets better and better. I got a groupon for my next visit to Phillie.

I was in town visiting Philly and heard about this place through a FB group. We got there like 30 mins after opening and the wait time wasn't to bad. Normal 30-45 mins. I didn't care cause I heard the food was good. The people that recommended this spot was right. The food was ssooooo good. They bring out cornbread with strawberry butter. Heaven! The chicken and macaroni was the best. The right amount of cheese and everything. If my momma was there she was getting slapped. Lol. I'm still thinking that food honestly. If you are ever in Philly you must go there.

But my favorite is fried talipia or is it the turkey wings...ok the catfish fingers....or maybe the chicken and waffles....all I know as long as I get to wash it down with that delicious sweet tea, its all so so good! The atomsphere is sexy and the food is delicious, what more can you ask...make sure you make reservations, this place stays packed!

Had an amazing time last Wednesday; first time coming to their happy hour. Prices were great, service was phenomenal and the ambience was right on point. Exactly what I needed after a long days work. I honestly cannot wait until this Wednesday to return. *** sweet chili wings, crab macaroni and cheese balls and a endless glass of their famous tropical blend Ice-Tea***

Ok food, but service and atmosphere are not their strong points. I'd say get your meal to-go if you really have a taste for soul food. Their chicken is usually gigantic hormone-looking, so I would stick with the fish or something else. Seasoning is ok, but nothing to rave about.

We went to Ms. Tootsie's on a Friday night. We had reservations for a large party which can be difficult to handle for some crowded restaurants, but Ms. Tootsie's was ready for us and we were promptly seated. Cornbread muffins with a strawberry butter was placed on the table and they were great. I ordered Fried Catfish, String Beans, and Rice with Gravy, and everything tasted absolutely fantastic. The Catfish came as two fillets which was a pleasant surprise. I also tasted the Cheesy Cheese Macaroni which was fine. So why only four stars instead of five? We chose Ms. Tootsie's for it's advertised restaurant, bar, and lounge atmosphere, expecting to take full advantage of all three categories. However, only the restaurant on the first floor was open, leaving us mildly disappointed.

Customer service is paramount, love is the primary ingredient in the preparation of food, and joy is what you feel in every bite. Just say oooolala after every sip of those luscious drinks. Visit or you will miss the experience of a lifetime.

Went out for dinner with friends and the food is the reason to go. While the restaurant is pretty..let’s talk about the food. The GREEN BEANS! One friend had the lamb,,,another had the fried chicken...cornbread muffins with strawberry butter ... you get the picture. Also try a watermelon martini.. yum.

The wait was long the restaurant decore is nice, the food not so much. Had smother turkey wings, greens and cabbage. Everything was bland. The wings were tough the gravy was scarce.

I went with a group of friends we waited 45 minutes to be seated. Long wait to take our drink order. When she finally comes back with our drinks, she leaves again and takes an order from another table that was seated after us. She kept bringing service for 5 it was six of us. The food was good.

i was so excited to go to this place but trust this post u will not enjoy your self. My wait was 2 1/2 hours long and i was so mad. Once i got in the place it was small and on top of that the food and drinks were nasty!!!! the food is over priced and the mac and cheese was the worst i ever had in my life. the drinks were nasty and even the people around me started to say how they were disappointed and it started a big conversation to the point were the chief came out and gave us all new mac and cheese but everybody still said the food was nasty. Other guest started sending there food back as well. We all could not believe how nasty the food was!!! my date was so upset he started to get a headache. the manager did give us 50% off but i will never go there again. They even gave customers free cakes but the cakes were nasty too!!! i dont know why this place has good reviews because i'm telling you once you go there u will see what im talking about!!!! this restaurant gets a F.

Came with my father and sister for a dinner. We were seated quickly but took about 20 minutes to revieve any type of service. We had to ask one of the waiters to find someone to serve us. Once we were waited on the food came out quickly. Every moment waited was worth it. The food was literally die for. I could have took my bed and placed it up stairs to live here forever. The candy yams were full of sweet and rich flavor. The fried tilapia I received was fried to perfection. Although the macaroni was good it could have been giving more flavor. After my experience I fell in love with soul food all over again. Outstanding food poor service. Thankfully the food makes up for every second wasted.

I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone I know. I choose this restaurant for my mother's birthday because we kept hearing the rave about this place. On the way to the restaurant from Baltimore we called 10mins ahead to see if there was a wait. The hostess states that it was 10min wait so far and thought that was perfect. Once we get to the restaurant the hostess states that really the wait time was 30 mins long, well we drove a whole 2 hrs to get here and we really wanted to try the place out so we added our name to the list and is told they will call us when our table is ready. An hour goes by and still no call so I decide to go in to see what was the hold up. I ask the hostess what is going on because I added my name at 730 and it was now 830 and I still wasn't seated even though they told me the wait was 30mins. She states ok follow me, so I told her ok let me get my party, when I come back with my party she states it's going to be ready in 10mins but she had just stated that my table was ready. But as I'm waiting she seats a party for 8 and a party for 2. But we where there before both parties. So I ask to speak to the manager and I tell the manager about the situation and all she said was I don't know what's going on but I'll sit you as soon as a table by the hostess stand is available. She didn't have any other solution. I work in the hospitality field and I know my main go as a manager is to make sure my guest/customers are happy and give something to show that we are extremely sorry for what had happen but she didn't offer anything not a dessert on the house or a drink at the bar or even to pay an hour on the meter that they had took up for giving us the wrong information. By the time we were seated my mom didn't even want anything to eat from the place because she was beyond pissed. After being seated for about 10mins our waitress finally comes over and take our drink order that takes a whole 15 mins to bring back and all we got each was a glass of water with a lemon but she didn't even get that right because she comes back with water with limes. Smh. We go ahead and place our order. I got the smothered chicken with the gravy on the side with Mac and cheese and candied yams, my father gets wings with potato salad and cabbage, my brother gets the chicken and waffles, and lastly my mom orders the crab cake and fries that's on the appetizer menu to come out with the entrées and we place an order for our dessert to guarantee they wouldn't sell out of it. Our waitress couldn't even get that small order right my mom's food comes out before everyone else and it's not even our waitress who brings the food it's someone else. That find except usually a waitress would stop by and see that you received your food and to see if you needed anything. We didn't see a waitress or anyone for that matter until the rest of the food was brought out so my mom's food got extremely cold because she never received any ketchup or mustard for her crab cake and fries. And the waitress forgot to tell the cook to put my gravy on the side so I have to wait for them to redo my order. Food: The chicken was season well and tasted amazing. That's the only reason why we gave this restaurant 1 star. The mac and cheese noodles weren't cooked all the way and it had a horrible after taste. The candied yams, potato salad and cabbage were all amazing as well. The waffle was horrible. How you can mess up a waffle batter blew my mind. And the crab cakes I don't even want to talk about it. During our whole meal I probably only saw the waitress twice and that was when she asked her did she forget my dad's ice tea that was so watered down it taste like colored water. And when the waitress came back with our dessert already in boxes basically rushing us out the restaurant. Normally you are ask are you ready for dessert and the customer then states either yes or can they wrapped it up to go. I have never left a restaurant so upset and disappointed. My family was really looking forward to adding this location to our philly list of places to go if we are ever in town but now this will go on our beware/never go back again list. I would really appreciate if the general manager or the owners can contact me back. Also I forgot to mention that the bathrooms are huge unisex bathroom. Where a guy and lady and both be in the bathroom at the sametime. I didn't fell very comfortable with this but when you have to go you have to go.

I have had many friends attend this restaurant and absolutely love it, I recently had my first visit and cannot say I had the same experience. We went during the back half of the evening around 1130p/12a--there was not too many guests left, service was still really slow but all of the staff were extremely nice and welcoming. The food was ok, it's typical soulfood; I was not overly impressed with my anything but someone that does not eat soulfood often would be. I will say that my drink (called "Envy") and the strawberry butter that came with the cornbread was delicious! I would probably eat here again if I was in the area but wouldn't make a special trip to do so.

Ms. Tootise's is a place certainly worth visiting. I lived nearby and went for diner once every some weeks. The catfish and a few other of the soul food choices are very tasty and not often found so nicely done. The place itself has some fancy ambitions that compete some with the quality of the cuisine, but this South Street and there's a lot going on there, so inside as well as out I guess.

I ordered the chicken and waffle meal with 2 sides. The waffle was tasty, but the cinnamon they sprinkle all over the plate is too strong and they should get rid of it. Otherwise the chicken was heavenly, my sides of mac n cheese, and yams were great. I had the tropical tea, with its secret ingredients, that are apparently in the process of being sold to Pepsi. I am convinced it is tea mixed with tropical punch kool aid. It is very sweet, but it's good. The corn muffin was delicious as well. This was a great meal, I didnt even have room for dessert! I will definitely go back the next time I am in Philly.

Im from the south so Soul Food isn't a big a do...for me, Ms. Tootsies was more about the experience. We went on a Friday night. There was about a 30 min wait and during that time we just sat at the bar and had a couple of drinks. We had just missed their 8pm(im pretty certain it was 8) happy hour and the next one wouldn't be until 10. Nevertheless the drinks weren't that bad. I paid $7 for a glass of Pino Grigio and I think my husband spent $5 for a beer. The DJ was THE BEST! He played a lot of 90's R&B and throwback jams that I really enjoyed! The décor is really modern and sleek. The bathroom is inside a hidden door by the bar, which I absolutely loved! We finally got her seat and were seated at a table that had a love seat type chair on one side and two single chairs on the other. Our waitress was extremely friendly and accommodating. The food was brought out by a cook who was very pleasant and helpful in correcting an error on one of our plates. My dinner included their smother turkey wings, mac and cheese and collard greens! It was a tad bit salty for my taste but overall very delicious. We had every hope in returning the next night with a new couple but plans didn't allow us to, but best believe this will be a definite stop the next time I am in Philly.

Not only was this my first trip to Ms. Tootsie's, it was also my first trip to Philadelphia! The food was amazing, the drinks were amazing, and the ambiance was amazing! I would recommend this restaurant to/for ANYONE! I had the smothered turkey wings with yams and greens...delish! My boyfriend had the smothered chicken wings, cabbage and mac-n-cheese....delish!

Went the other night with some friends for dinner. It was my first time going to this restaurant and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere and decor was classy and sophisticated while maintaining a casual yet relaxed vibe. Our server was polite, efficient and professional and knew the menu well. The menu was simple and filled with traditional soul food options touched with Miss Tootsie's classic twist on everything, Everything was seasoned well and very tasty (and yes, my girlfriends fried chicken was very moist, not dry at all). The portion sizes were generous and the cocktails were quite refreshing (not watered down or over-powering with alcohol)...Whether you're hanging with your friends for a casual night out, or looking to spend some quality time on a date night, this place won't disappoint!....Looking forward to going back soon, the lamb chops and sweet potatoes were delicious!

Great portions...come hungry! The cornbread and butter Deeeelicious! Nice neighborhood so we went for a walk in the night hours... drinks were potent and good.. Grown Folks Ice Tea! And White Wine Sangria!! The bathroom is the cutest! Cleanest ever!

I was here with a friend August 2013. While the food was excellent, the enviroment was even better. Very chic and savvy for a small place. All the servers wore white and were polite and attentive. The very eclectic scenaery was not a bad touch, with the walls being white and resenblence of a leather couch cushions. I had a drink called somehting like " for GROWN UPS". And that drink I must say had be giggling like a 21 year old on my first round, lolol- Just pleasant! I was equally pleased with the fried chicken, greens and mac & cheese. The jelly/butter for the cornbread was super good as well. My only complaint was the chicken had hairy tips :(. So they def need to clean and present that dish better. Overall, it was a satifying meal, and not very expensive. I would certainly revisit this restaurant again in the future!!

Despite being big NY Giants fans my wife and I love to visit Philly whenever we get the chance. Last night was no exception. We came to Ms. Tootsies to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday. We got there about 5:15 pm we didn't want to stay late ( it's about a 90 minute drive back to Bloomfield). It guickly fills up on a Thursday evening. Our appetizers were great: crab cakes, fries, mac n cheese n crab balls; just great. My wife had the teriyaki salmon; my daughter had whiting which was so good it seemed to melt in my mouth. I had four of the biggest chicken wings i've ever seen. The sides were all great ( I love black eyed peas and I've never before ate them in a restaurant where it seemed like they DIDN'T come out of a can - THANK YOU). Though i must admit that the collards were a bit too salty for me. I can't wait until it gets warm up here so we can go to the Reading Terminal Market to try more of your great offerings. P.S. Big shout out to Kuan our server he was fun, energetic, and made our experience wonderful. And the whole vibe of the backround music was great also. Had a great time thanks again

A few friends recommended Ms Tootsie's and I was excited to try it out. We already knew there would be a long wait so we went later on a Saturday evening. We got there around 9:30pm and got seated around 10:30pm. We got the wing appetizer which was good. We had one round of cocktails and just ok. I ordered the Seafood platter and everything on the plate was SUPER salty. The shrimp were a good size, the whitting was fried well. I have had better crab cakes and I am happy we did not get that as an appetizer. As a side I got the collard greens with turkey and I figured that would be salty but with the seafood salty as well, it ruined the whole meal. The Black eyed peas were tasty but every single dish was salty and my palette was ruined for the night. My friend also commented on the salt she tasted in several of her selections. She tried one of my shrimp and did not want anymore. I did not take any food home. The mac and cheese was very delicious and the only thing I could eat. The service was great, this is a very popular restaurant and people were coming in at 1am to be seated. This restaurant is very well known but I would not go back there. I will try some other soul food restaurants.

I was in town for a conference and we had read about Ms. Tootsies and even had gotten a recommendation from a local to go there for soul food. We had a party of 6 and when we got there we were told there would be an hour wait not a huge problem for a Saturday. However, there was an empty table of 4 so we asked if half of our party could be seated and the other 2 could sit at the bar. This is when we were told that the bar was not full service and that we could only get drinks at the bar. The problem with this statement is that there were people at the bar eating and being served food but we were told differently when we are looking at people eating. We didn't even get to try the food because we left we refuse to give our money to an establishment with poor customer service. They have an upstairs that was not open on a Saturday which further limited the number of patrons they could seat. There are plenty of restaurants in Philly I would choose any of them over this place. Please work on your customer service and if you have a policy i.e. No full service at the bar then don't pick and choose who gets to follow the policy and who does not.

My son and his family took me (his mother) out for a birthday dinner. He mentioned two different restaurants and asked me where I would rather go. Since it's been a long time since I had really good "soul" food, I said I would like to go to this restaurant. Good choice - - food was excellent--service was excellent. And, could those 'servers' sing - Stevie Wonder's Happy Birthday To You song. Great night, great family & great food.

Me and a friend along with her daughter went to. Ms. Tootsie's and had a great time. After reading many negative reviews I was very skeptical and hesitant to go. We didn't make reservations since we were only a party of 3. We were told that there was an hour and a half wait. After hearing that I almost gave up. But being as though it's on South street, we decided to do some window shopping and within a half hour we were called and seated right away. Ambiance: Once inside it was very dark. The tables were wobbily. But the music was nice. Staff: The staff who seated and brought our food were very polite. Food: The cornbread was dry and the sweet tea was not the best that I've had. Needless to say the food we ordered was pretty good. I had the smothered pork chops, collard greens, mac n cheese and a side of candied sweet potatoes. Those items were pretty good. The mac and cheese a little dry. The candied sweet potatoes were super sweet. The porkchops and collard greens were good. I ordered the sweet potato cheesecake for dessert, which was delicious. Overall: My advice would be to try this restaurant for yourself. It wasn't bad and I would definitely go back.

The food was incredibly good and the service attentive. We arrived just as they were opening for dinner, so we had to wait a few minutes, but the experience was excellent. The decor is beautiful. The food was cooked to perfection and so tender, it literally fell off the bone. They also serve corn muffin biscuits w/a special strawberry butter that is so delectable, it leaves you yearning for more. Come prepared to want everything on the menu - making a selection will be the hardest part of the trip!

Had dinner at Ms. Tootsie's for the first time, and everything including service was GREAT! I surprised myself because I normally use pepper on most of my food, the paper was not even needed- because I loved the texture of the food. I recommend if you want to have a nice date, or hangout with some friends for a great fulfilling meal. I plan too return. Thank you,

I read bad customer service reviews on here but that didn't stop me from going to this place. The food is the BEST soul food I've ever tasted! The famous Iced Tea is great! I ordered the fried chicken, mac and cheese and the collard greens. Everything was on point. My wife got the catfish, yams and mac and cheese. I was VERY pleased with the atmosphere, food and the customer service. We only had to wait about 10 minutes after they said it would be an hour. When we were seated, the waitress was kind, pleasant and at the same time, still kept it "black" (which is what I loved). The food came out quick ( i was expecting to wait an hour but I waited about 20 minutes). Everything was an A+ in my book. (note: we went here Saturday night at 8pm)

Group of 4 had an amazing dinner for our last night in Philadelphia. We were finishing a two week conference and had eaten many places. This was the best. Everyone enjoyed their entrees and sides. Only down side-too much sauce on the ribs. Fried catfish was also excellent. Ryan our server was very pleasant and attentive.

I wanted to enjoy a nice meal on a rain-drenched evening with my special guy. I wanted to be able to talk while enjoying our food. Ms. Tootsie’s popped into mind, almost immediately. I knew that there wouldn’t be any bright lights, crowded tables or loud music. I ordered the fried chicken, black eye peas-over rice and collard greens. My date order the fried chicken but dark meat, black eye peas and rice and gravy. The presentation alone was beautiful. The chicken was fried to golden perfection. We were served two warm corn muffin. The spread was some sort of butter/jam mixture. Neither of us could figure it out but we knew that we LOVED it! The atmosphere was pleasant, the service was prompt and professional and the food was simply divine.

I spotted Ms Tootsies whilst exploring the neighbourhood before checking into my Hotel, and decided to visit during my trip. I've never had Soul Food before, so today was all about firsts. On arrival we were greeted and shown to a table near the window. With it being practically Arctic outside we asked to be moved away from the pending draft, and were seated along the back wall without any issues. Our Server was prompt, polite and friendly, bringing glasses of ice water along with our drinks. After we had placed our order our Server was back at our table with a side plate of Cornbread with Strawberry Butter...it was so good...seriously. My Friend had the mini Chicken and Waffles with a side of Mac and Cheese, and I opted for Catfish, Collard Greens with Smoked Turkey and Candied Yams. There was a bit of a wait for our meal to come from the Kitchen (three parties were seated and served drinks and entrées before our meal came), but our Server was helpful in keeping us informed. Once it arrived the food was fantastic; well cooked and presented, and oh so tasty! The portions are healthy - so healthy that we both asked for containers to take the remainder home, and our Server was happy to oblige. The Restaurant/Bar/Lounge is small, but you don't feel as if you're on top of other Diners. I definitely enjoyed eating here, and I'd more than happily come here again.

What a pleasant surprise. I had the smothered chops, candied yams and collard greens and it all was delicious. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. The ambiance and service was excellent. I wished I could bring the restaurant home with me. It will be my first destination for dinner the next time I'm in Philly.

We came to Ms. Tootsies for Valentine's Day. We were aware there was a prix fixe menu because of the holiday ($39 per person) but there was no wait and we didn't have reservations so we went for it. It was great. The atmosphere was laid back and still romantic. Our server Sean was amazing and the food was great. He had the ribs, which he enjoyed. I had the fried chicken wings. You get four and they were huge wings. The sock it to me lemon pound cake was AWESOME!!! We will surely be going back!

as far as fast foods go, my wife loves Popeyes...this place beats it hand over fist. Went with friends and had the chicken and sides. Could not finish the dish; the chicken was super , the sides were great, the service was extraordinary; it was 730 on a week night and we were seated immediately and to top it off the cornbread muffins, fresh from the oven , were to die for with strawberry butter....WOW...could pass on desert, too full...

This place was ok. I did not get the feeling that it was very clean and for that reason, I have no desire to dine here again. We walked in and waited 5 minutes to be acknowledged. At that point, a young gentleman said "I'm going to put you right there, 3, right?" Well, hello to you, too. His lack of greeting didn't really bother me...I'm just saying. It took another 5 minutes for us to be seated at that table. They don't have much of a waiting area so you're awkwardly standing in the doorway...or you have to just stand up outside...which many people did as we sat by the window seat. Once we were seated the waitress checked in to tell us she would be with us shortly. I actually really liked our waitress. She was pleasant and friendly and she got the job done. I had to wipe down my chair because there was crumbs and hair on it. This grossed me out but I lived through it. I went to the restroom to wash my hands after touching the sticky menu. I was directed upstairs. There seems to be a communal "holding room" of sorts that you walk through to get the to "bathroom". I'm not sure what it actually was. There were people of both genders sitting on chairs, looking at their cell phones. I was confused after seeing this and asked them if the bathroom was back in this area. They pointed to an open door. The bathroom is unisex and the door to get into it was wide open. There are stalls with doors and men and women use the bathroom in the same room at the same time. This was odd to me. I was glad there were only women in there while I was using it. However, the first stall I tried to use, I lifted the toilet seat and saw what no one should EVER have to see!!! I was so disgusted. It honestly made me doubt the cleanliness of the entire place (which if I'm being honest, I was already doubting). I went back to our table and used purell for extra disinfectant purposes. There was debris on my bread plate so I chose not to use it. There was also something on my knife. The table didn't look clean. It looked like they wiped it off with a rag but they didn't actually CLEAN it from the previous diners. Also, gross to me. The cornbread was pretty good. I chose not to use the strawberry butter but my boyfriend and his father enjoyed it. I didn't care for their famous tea. It was too sweet and artificial tasting for my liking. My boyfriend ordered chicken and waffles at which point the waitress told us they were out of waffles. I got the fried tilapia with mac and cheese and candied yams. The fish was tasty. There was a lot of dark meat. The mac and cheese was ok. The yams were not that great. My boyfriends mac and cheese and yams are both WAYYYY better. My boyfriends dad complained about the portion sizes of the side dishes being too small. The fish portions however, were large (IMO). The look of this place was nicer than I expected. We were all in agreement on that. It looks like it has potential but it just doesn't seem that professional. You can practically see the girls bottoms that are working here. Everyone seems kind of helter skelter and no one seems to move quickly. The people I saw working all seemed pleasant and happy to be there...I just feel like they need need better management backing them to help bring everything to the next level. They don't seem well equipped for a large influx of people on a dinner rush. They had trouble keeping the people happy waiting when it wasn't even busy. Management definitely needs higher cleanliness standards. I read a review where someone said it was so dark they could barely see their food and they were probably thankful for it...that's a scary thought! I'm glad we came during the day. Another interesting thing...employees kept going in and out of a door next door (outside of the restaurant) with a key. I'm assuming this is where they keep their dry storage. At one point employees were coming in with a large box and two large (BJ's size) cans. They had towels over the labels to conceal whatever the items were. I was trying to check out what the cans were and when the girl saw me, she grabbed the towel and covered it more so I couldn't see. I found this very odd/interesting. Another time a male employee went in with two small to go containers and came back in with what appeared to be dessert in them. They give tootsie pops with the check which I thought was a cute touch.

Recently, my 12-year-old daughter, my brother and I visited Philly for the Cowboys Eagles game. When I check-in at the hotel, I asked the attendant to recommend a soul food restaurant. She warned me about Ms. Tootsie's and told me how she had taken her family there for an after-graduation meal. She described her experience "horrific" an "awful". Being the hard-headed 50 year-old woman that I am, I decided to see for myself what Ms. Tootsie's was all about. Everything from the parking to the service to the food was DEPLORABLE!!!! I ordered chicken, two servings of collard greens and yams to go. When I got back to the hotel, I had one serving of collard greens and one serving of cabbage. There were no yams in sight, but instead a big dunk of terrible looking macaroni and cheese. After tasting the food, I threw it in the garbage can and called the restaurant to share with them the aforementioned testimonies. The nigh manager offered to refund my money and she did. However, putting the money back on my card did not compensate me for the time I'd wasted! I DO NOT, (REPEAT) DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT FOR ANYTHING!!! Y'all need to take some serious lessons from Warmdaddy's. They know how to serve and cook! Dr. Dzoole

This was a great place to visit with my girls on a Friday night! The prices were great as well as the food!!

Arrived with high hopes for some good food to start off a night out. Arrived at 6 pm in front of a crowd. I felt hopeful since my party of two arrived first. Soon the vestibule was crowded and we decided to get bar seating which was looking to open up. When two diners finshed at the bar they were shown the door and two bar stools were removed from the bar...Ok. Were those the seats I was waiting for? We all were herded from the front door to a second floor waiting area approximately 8 ppl by now. The waiting area had two seats. We sat up there for about twenty minutes feeling forgotten. Twice I had to check to be sure we weren't out of sight out of mind and we were. We expected to wait for the sky bar (bar on the 3rd floor) to open have seating there and order dinner only to finally be allowed up to the realization that oh no you cant eat at this bar there isn't even seating!! So now were are about an hour into the twilight zone. We refuse to stand at a bar we waited an hour to get to with the promise of food. This is a restaurant right? We were offered immediate seating on the first floor now that a private party has cleared out. We sat for another twenty minutes before even being acknowledged!! And that was only after I approached the hostess TWICE!. We finally got an introduction to our server and dirty, DIRTY appetizer plates and utensils. Seriously even in the dimmed lighting I saw my plate was greasy and rolled napkin stained....We have decided to take our food to go. Can we order to go? Sure. We are still seated offered a drink and agin tried to be patient until several parties seated after us were given their main courses the fish we ordered NEVER CAME. NEVER CAME after even asking about our dinner and told that Management themselves were getting our food bagged up. Long story summed up we were there for almost two hours and never even got our food. The cornbread we asked for did come. I guess to keep us from fainting.

My sister and I was on South Street and decided to stop. She ordered Fried Fish, Mac N Cheese and Collards. I had Fried Chicken Wings, Rice & Gravy and Cabbage. Our food came out quickly. It was piping hot and looked amazing. The waitress was very attentive and when she noticed that I didn't like the Rice & Gravy, she apologized and promptly replaced with Mac N Cheese. The Fried Fish and Corn Bread Muffins was delicious. The other food was good. I wouldn't make a special trip to eat here but because of the beautiful decor and great service, I would stop in if I was in the area.

Substantial portions. The Ice-Tea is ridiculously good. Food was just like grandma and great grandma use to make.

On August 1st we visited our favorite place again. As expected we were welcomed by great hostesses who gave real smiles. Then seated and taken care of by Amber our server who was terrific and polite and knowledgeable. Our drinks were delicious and then...THE FOOD CAME!! Oh my goodness talk about love at first sight. Lol I know it's only food but presentation is a great thing and taste is everything. Lord have mercy our food tastes DELICIOUS!!! Chicken and waffles, catfish fingers and cornbread to die for with cranberry butter. Mmmmmmm good !! Thanks crystal for your table visit and the opportunity to share a great treasure in Philly . Everyone should visit at least once and then oh yeah you'll be back. Keep it up Ms tootsies.

Reminded me of home...Chicago. food was delicious...service was wonderful. Exceeded my expectations. Cant wait to go again.

My sister and I went to Ms. Tooties on a Friday night after going to a concert. My sister had never been there and we were hungry. We sat at the bar because the wait for a table was too long. We ordered drinks. Bartender was great. I think her name was Tyema (sp). We both ordered catfish, greens and yams. When we got the food, my sister started eating her greens. All I heard was whewwwwww. I asked her what and she said the salt. I then tasted my greens and they were salty as well. We told the bartender and she took them back to the kitchen. She asked if we wanted something else so we both ordered cabbage. Well, when the cabbage came, we couldn't let our forks in the cabbage. It was too hard. We got the bartender again she told her about the cabbage. She then called the manager who apologized and took the vegetables off our bill. All I can see is if you have high blood pressure, don't order the greens!

We've been wanting to Ms. Tootsie's for a few months. We went last night, 9/4. Everything was truly great. We only wished they took reservations since the area around the place doesn't have many bars to sit at while waiting for a table. That one snag aside, our visit to Ms. Tootsie's was exceptional. The Host and our waitress were incredible so we'd rate service a 10. The meal began with cornbread brought to the table. It was delicious. There were five of us and the cornbread didn't last thirty seconds. We all ordered the fried chicken and it was the best any of us had tasted. I'm not sure if something as simple as fried chicken can be raised to an art form, but Ms. Tootsie's came close. Also, the sides were incredible. Our group rated the Macaroni and Cheese and Collard greens the best. If you are not familiar with collard greens, do yourself a favor and order them. Everyone loved their meal. We had no room for dessert, however. Maybe next time. I couldn't recommend Ms. Tootsie's strongly enough.

If you want that southern dinner and you are looking for excitement at the same time then Ms. Tootsie's is the place to go. Be sure to make a reservation because with out one you may not be able to dine there. The food is perfect and the service is excellent. Great atmosphere for family if you wish to take your children or if you want to take your partner the atmosphere is perfect and if you want to handle a business dinner then Ms. Tootsie's is your place .

First off let me say I made my first initial reservation 1 1/2 weeks prior to my date online for 8 people, no confirmation! Second reservation a few days later, no confirmation! I called, no answer, voicemail full! I call again a few days later finally get someone that tells me that the person that handles the reservations comes in at 5:00pm so call back then, so I call back for them to tell me oh she comes in early in the day!!! So I fill out the contact form online ( twice ) with no response. Now mind you I'm traveling from Baltimore to philly for my 10th wedding anniversary with 7 other people to visit this restaurant. I just needed my confirmation and I had to add 1 more person. This was a bad idea I got so much grief just to add 1 person. My food was cold ( shrimp & grits) the greens and cabbage were extremely salty! I was not impressed at all

Bad Night at Miss Tootsie's! I came to Ms. Tootsie's on July 4th, 2015 hoping to get a great meal along with the great service that I received a year earlier. Unfortunately, this was not the case. After being seated in the back area (the front is the better area) my fiance and I were approached by a server who was nice, but not properly trained. -She did not introduce herself or welcome us to Ms.Tootsies. -She did not explain any of the specials or signature items on the menu. -She did not try to up-sell any alcohol, or the wonderful tea that the establishment offers. While my fiance was placing her order, the server was very disinterested and was looking out of the window. My fiance had asked for the server to explain how a couple dishes were prepared; and the server did not know. We put in our order: Catfish fingers appetizer Turkey Wings Dinner Smothered Pork Chops Greens Mac and Cheese 2 Ice teas Before our appetizers arrived there was another worker who was setting a table for a party of 10 next to us. The worker was dropping the plates on the table, making for a very annoying sound. It seemed that a few of the servers were very disinterested in their jobs and did not care about customer service. Our appetizers arrived 30 minutes later. The server did not come back to the table between our initial order and the delivery of the appetizers. I noticed my napkin was dirty, and I did not see the server in order to get a clean one. When the appetizers were finally delivered I asked the server for a new napkin; she proceeded to give me the napkin that she carried the plates out with. DISGUSTING! While eating dinner my fiance needed to get our servers attention, but the server never came back to our table. My fiance had to ask another server for some more water and another ice tea. The food was good. The smothered pork chops were a bit salty, the collard greens were good, but needed a bit more flavor (some sugar). The mac and cheese was excellent! My fiance said her Turkey wings were very well seasoned and flavorful. Just as we were finishing the server came over and brought over "to go" boxes. We never asked for the to go boxes so we felt like she was rushing us to leave. After we finished our meal, the server brought our check (before I even asked for it). She never explained which desserts they offered, never offered us coffee or an after dinner cocktail. She came back for the check and never thanked us for coming to the restaurant. All in all, it was a horrible experience which will make me not want to return or recommend the place. I wanted to bring a family reunion to the restaurant, but this service has caused me take my business elsewhere. I was very disappointed with this dining experience. The servers need to be properly trained AND supervised.

This place is southern food with a trendy twist. The atmosphere is great, with nice white wall coverings etc. The food is literally amazing and at a good price. The staff was extremely UN ATTENTIVE, but the food sure makes up for it!

My friend and I visited Ms. Tootsie's a few weeks ago with a Living Social or Groupon voucher. We both had fried chicken, which was the absolute best I've ever had. It was light and crispy with not one ounce of grease. I was so impressed!! My friend loved hers as well but felt there wasn't enough. The hostess at the door wasn't overly friendly, but as soon as we sat down at the bar to await our table, another woman, Rita, took an immediate interest in us. Clearly she is very proud of the restaurant and was pleased to take us on a tour of the 3 story building. Very nice, though somewhat austere. There is a large room upstairs to accommodate weddings and other special events. After dinner we tried to order tea with our dessert and our waiter told us there were no hot drinks available that night. Enter Rita again, who ensured we got our tea. (She indicated that our waiter only works on Sundays so he didn't know there was tea??) However, the waiter was unable to provide any milk or cream for the tea. Overall, this was an enjoyable experience and extremely reasonable. I would recommend trying Ms.Tootsies!

I thought this place was AMAZING. The decor was BEAUTIFUL. CHOCOLATE BROWN & WHITE. The staff was EXTREMELY nice. The young lady Shea was so nice and she made sure we didn't wait for anything. The food was AMAZING. FISH tasted like it just jumped straight out of the ocean, into the frying pan & onto my plate. The COLLARDS tasted like home, which almost had me in tears. Thinking about all the LOVE AND HARD WORK we used to put into making those GREEN'S. The YAMS tasted like HEAVEN on EARTH. I am a TRUE SOUTHERNER. Husband had the lamb, cabbage, & macaroni & cheese. He said the food was really good. I was busy feeding my face. The drinks were good. The went down smooth. The dessert menu was SWEET but I was too full to even entertain the thought of it. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT.

I stopped here for dinner and It was even better than my last visit. It was crowded as usual, so I grabbed a seat at the bar. The hostess wasn't the friendliest but the waiter there was extremely friendly and helpful, helping us decided what food and drinks to order. The food didn't take long to come and when it did it was nice and hot and delicious. Great atmosphere, great food, I will definitely visit again.

Received an email during Restaurant Week to come for a prefix menu. Arrived on a Wed at 6:30 pm, told wait would be 40 min. 1 1/2 hours later we finally sat down! They only had 5 tables and the bar open! I've been here before, so I know they had more seating area. But they said it was under renovation. During Restaurant Week! Be upfront about the wait time, there's no real waiting area ( upstairs outside the bathroom ), only 3 servers were in, yet there were 4 ppl behind the bar. I would have sat at the bar, but I had my son with me. The food is good, but service leaves a lot to be desired.

I'll start with the positives. The staff were excellent. They were pleasant, personable, accomodating, and professional. The restaurant was small, but also very stylish. I was not pleased with my food. I ordered the lamb chops. They were drenched in sauce, so they'd become limp and soupy. I ordered okra sauteed with corn and tomato, which was delivered to be as a bowl of corn with a few pieces of okra in it. The yams were good. The cornbread was good. My friends ordered fried chicken. They said it was hard and salty. I was not impressed, and I probably wouldnt recommend this restaurant for food. It may be a nice place to visit for Happy Hour drinks though.

I can't say enough about this place. The food was amazing. I truly enjoyed my whole meal. Big portions. The atmosphere was just as good as the food. Nice vibes. Definitely will make another visit when in Philly.

My first visit was great it was raining hard and the restaurant was practically empty my significant other and I had a good time our waitress was very courteous. I've been twice. The restaurant needs to be expanded. When it gets crowded you could feel claustrophobic. My second visit the food prices went up.

The Grits were GREAT!!!!. I asked for the fish to be fried hard and that was an epic fail. It was not fried hard, but the taste was good. The Chicken and waffles were good. Their signature tea was good, but a little too sweet. We came for brunch, the ambiance was nice and the décor was pretty cute. The music was way too loud though. Overall, it was pretty good and very nice staff.
Dinner before Jazz show
The food was amazing! The best collard greens I have ever had in my life. Then they messed around and brought homemade piping corn muffins with honey butter with orange zest. We were in heaven! My friends and I travel to Philly every year for a shopping trip. This was the first time dining at Ms. Tootsie's. However, it will not be the last time dining here. Bravo!
