Great ambiance , average food

By Carole |

All good Mexican restaurants start with great chips and great salsa anyone that loves Mexican food will tell you that.... The green and red sauces were very good and had a nice spice to them . The chips were large and very crispy and not too salty which we liked very much. One of us had the red fish tacos they were bland the fish was barely warm and the toppings didn’t add a whole Lot of flavor to the fish. The Guacamole was very good creamy fresh and homemade. The chicken quesadillas were not very warm, very plain , and actually look like you could’ve driven through Taco Bell and set them on a plate. What a disappointment. We had the queso Muchacho which was three cheeses jalapeños adding in beef sour cream and guacamole. It was a great temperature but too runny, Queso really isn’t meant to just runoff of the chip... The service was just not good we had to ask for refills of water etc.. During this time of Covid obviously they weren’t that busy so I was actually very surprised the service was so bad. The hostess at the front was very nice and gave us a wonderful booth, Dennis Who altered the reservation for a larger party was very accommodating. I just don’t know if I would try this place a second time I was so disappointed and had heard really great things.

Great food and great atmosphere.

Glad to see Taco Diner go and glad to see this restaurant in its place. Delicious dishes with a wonderful staff. Family friendly. Try everything on the menu. We will be regulars at this place.

The Southlake, TX location is the best good ever in the area.

I actually dined at the new Southlake location in November 2021. I’m happy to say it is the best restaurant ever in Southlake and surrounding area. The taste of true authentic flavor in every dish. (Go Dragons.)

Cinco de Mayo celebration

By Cynthia U |

Small celebration after eye surgery. Since it was cinco de mayo we had to celebrate the victory over the French. The salsa was different take on salsa. Of course the margarita flight was the star. Hint one flight is ample for 2 people

Fresh, tasty, overpriced

By AVGTXN |

Sunday lunch. Very nice decor. The large chips were good as were the salsas. The corn tortillas were not free, but tasted home made. Their $17 chicken verde enchiladas would be maybe $15 anywhere else, given their average serving size. (The verde sauce was St. Patrick's green too.) My companion's squash tostadas were good but similarly overpriced. Service was very attentive if somewhat confused. We've done Tex-Mex pretty much every week for 30 years. Muchacho ranks well considering its high prices. However, a $50 lunch with no alcohol means this place will be visited rarely.

Great Mexican

Nice

Warmly greeted and seated immediately. We were impressed from the beginning. Beautiful ranch style decor with the scent of leather in the air. The server was excellent. He was attentive and eager to please. We ordered chicken enchiladas and Combo Juan. Food was served warm but flavors were understated; rice and beans were forgettable. The food was good just not memorable. It was lunch so we did not have a margarita; darn! We will be back and try again since the service and cleanliness was excellent.

Excellent Mexican with outstanding service

By mshbnyehud |

My friend and I visited recently for dinner on a somewhat hot Dallas early evening, and we sat outside (the only walk-in option that evening without reservations). Fans and shade made the experience tolerable notwithstanding 90 degree weather. I had a Muchacho Rocks margarita for starters. It is very potent and delicious, made with rock salt on the rim. At $15, it's a bit on the expensive side. This cost is offset by reasonable cost for chicken fajitas, which is a substantial portion with refried beans and Spanish rice. Plus the chips and salsa is very fresh and wonderful. Service was extremely fast which was appreciated on the hot early evening. Everything tasted great! I can't wait to return, but will make a reservation next time (as the inside isn't all that large).

Expensive Tex Mex in a Pretty Setting

By Paulwbenn |

Recently visited this restaurant in Preston Plaza which took over the old Taco Diner space. The atmosphere is nice and quite upscale. Food and drinks were fine, but the price point was ridiculously high compared to the competition. Table service was fine, but definitely focused on turning tables and the hostess staff wasn't very friendly. No compelling reason to return.

The food was good. The hot

By Dfwboi |

The food was good. The hot sauce(s) were among the best around. The remaking food, was good. Service on par with this style of restaurant. Prices high for this style of restaurant, but understanding these centers are raising rents. So pricing in the Dallas market has been going up recently, strictly due to rent increases. Ambiance nice and relaxing. Noise level ok, a bit loud, but certainly better than most new places as the wood & cushioned seating absorbs a lot of the sound. Thank you for that.

Great service, great food, beautiful atmosphere

By Virginia S |

Visited with a friend late Friday. Jose was our waiter; couldn’t have been nicer and more helpful. Recommended two appetizers when we were hesitant about too much food; had sopas, guacamole, queso, and drinks. Everything was fresh and prepared perfectly. Would definitely plan to visit again.

Very disappointed

After a long awaited opening, friends and I went a few weeks later. We were not impressed. "Aclaimed chef, Omar Flores" from El Paso had a very uninspired menu that was mediocre at best. The restaurant claims to cater to a "high disposable income demographic area". I guess that means $5 for a small plate of cold rice and another $5 for a small plate of cold beans? Sent those back immediately and when the server returned in about 1 minute, I assumed that they had been nuked, but no, still cold. Chicken breast was flavorless and had a tiny scoop of brown guacamole on the side. Friends had similar experiences, and poorly made cocktails. As we were getting up, an elegant, older gentleman came over and asked about our dinner and a waved my hand gesturing so so. He said he was one of the owners and brought over the manager. They seemed sincerely interested in hearing our comments and critiques. I said rule number one in a restaurant should be hot food on hot plates. Honestly, if you're in the "high disposable income bracket " you should be accustomed to decent food and hot plates! Less than a mile down the street, you can get authentic Tex Mex at El Fenix for 75% less. Donate what you save to the food bank. Muchacho's is a bunch of hype and hyperbole.

There’s a reason it’s overpriced.

We got take-out the other night, really good. Especially good fresh tortillas. But it seemed a bit high for Mexican food. I live in the neighborhood, and have watched Preston Center evolve since it started in the 50s. Part of the problem is that the rents there have gone off the chart, and it shows in the prices. We like it anyway, convenient, good quality, all that, but come on guys, beans are cheap, and you only filled up the little compartment in my take home box half-way. That’s not how you make up for high rent.

Stellar Service And Delicious Food

A hidden gem in Dallas. Wish I had noted our servers name last night - he was amazing!! Always a great place with delicious food.

Good upscale Mexican food

By Dennis B |

Visited here with family of adults. The seating was comfortable. The ambiance is upscale. The margaritas were quite good. The menu choices were plentiful. All of our food orders were very good. Try the octopus tacos. Yes, it is a bit higher priced than typical Mexican restaurants but you are paying for location and upscale environment.

Too Much Acho

By srdbigd |

The place is nice enough, the drinks were good and service seemed fine. The food was pretty standard Tex Mex fare. For beef dishes they use flap steak cooked perfectly rare. It's a very flavorful meat. We have been using it for years at home for grilled steak tacos. We get it at Central Market and it's cheap, like $10.00 per pound about the same a flank steak. An order of fajitas goes for $30.00 at Muchacho and I estimate it might be 1/4 pound. Enough for two or three little tacos. Seems high to me and the sides are just so so. That is tough sell in this town.

Best Tex-Mex in Dallas!

By CJBlueberry |

Muchacho is our family’s favorite Mexican restaurant! We have been to both locations and both are excellent. The chef visited with us during one of our visits and he obviously loves creating flavorful dishes. We always bring our out of town friends and family to Muchacho so they can experience the best Tex-Mex in Dallas.

Best Mexican food in dallas

By Shiva D |

Best Mexican food in dallas! Food is always fresh, tasty, and service is wonderful. Best housemade flour tortillas! For appetizers, get the brisket sopes, flautist and ahi fish mini tacos (spicy tuna sushi grade tuna). We love the steak fajitas and the salads are delicious too!

Family Birthday Dinner with Six Guests

By conradlcsw |

This is my second visit here and choose to come back with my family for my birthday because my son and I enjoyed the chicken fajitas and both quesos the first visit. We had both quesos and the nachos this time. The ghost margarita has nice spicy kick to it. The chicken fajitas are excellent. The fish tacos, chicken, cheese enchilada dishes were excellent. The salad with meat options was also excellent. Service was attentive and my daughter who is a salsa expert like their various salsas. We ate on a Friday evening .

lovely atmosphere except for the dog at the next table.

By Cynthia U |

it was a cold rainy Friday afternoon. the lights were twinkling and people were laughing an irresistible combination. although is was 2:30 the place was packed. i was enjoying my food when in walks a very large dog which proceeds to get on the bench in the booth. this is no small dog probably a standard poodle. the manager comes over and obviously she pulled the its a service dog which it wasn't. since i am allergic to most dogs i left while the dog sat on the floor in everyone's way. this is not Paris where you cant move without tripping over someone's dog.

Senior Discrimination?

By Lhkelly50 |

After having made an online reservation at this new and popular Preston Center restaurant a week in advance, my companion and I (both 69) arrived as scheduled. The hostess smiled and acknowledged us, but when another employee can up to seat us, the hostess put the menu between her face and us and whispered something to the seater. The employee then led us down a long row of tables to the far back of the restaurant and seated us at a very small two to, adjacent to the kitchen and several larger parties of families with small children. Several of the larger booths we passed on our way to the back of the restaurant were seated with two people, much younger couples. Although I don’t know it for a fact, my hunch is that when the hostess saw us, and noted our age, she decided to relegate us to the back, away from the younger people she desired the atmosphere of the restaurant to reflect. I would be particularly bothered by this seemingly blatant age discrimination if the food had been good and I wished to return. Fortunately, the food we ordered was mediocre at best, and we have no desire to return. Still restaurant management should ensure their young, inexperienced staff do not treat customers in their 60’s, 50’s, or even 40’s in a discriminatory manner. That is a violation of civil rights and against the law. Older customers to Muchacho, be on guard.

New Neighborhood Gem

Cudos to the team that own and operate this new addition to Preston Center. The food and service was excellent. We enjoyed it and have since gone back numerous times and each visit was very good.

Entries Not Very Flavorful

By Casmir |

As a New Mexico resident, I have a good understanding of Mexican food. Although this restaurant specializes in Tex-Mex cuisine, I expected to find flavorful Mexican dishes. The salsa was excellent, especially the red variety. We also tried the Chile Con Queso, which was enjoyable. However, the main courses were disappointing. One member of our party ordered green enchiladas, but the sauce lacked flavor. The beans were just okay, and the rice was bland and unremarkable. as well as the chicken. I ordered Tacos Carnitas, one of my favorite Mexican dishes, but the meat was so fatty that it was inedible. The service was good, and another person in our group ordered a salad, which, while not a traditional Mexican dish, they enjoyed. Entries were not that we ordered I considered poor in taste. Overall, I did not have a positive experience in terms of the taste of Mexican food.

Early dinner at new restaurant

By Conrad M |

This is a relatively new restaurant from a highly rated chef. I had an early meal and walked in about 6 without a reservation. They were almost full, so they sat me at a community table designed for customers like me. The blue corn molotes were very good, but the Mexican shrimp cocktail was below average with a disappointing presentation. The house margaritas were very good. The crowd ranged from lots of young singles to families.

Fantastic food and drinks

By christina G |

Most importantly, the house margarita was delicious. It had a Smokey undertone that elevated the flavor profile. We had the rojo enchiladas, which are labeled as vegetarian. BE CAREFUL, the beans contain pork, they can substitute a side salad. They do not offer a vegetarian bean option. The enchilada plate was great, it is difficult to find a vegetarian red Chile sauce. We also had red fish tacos. They are not served with rice and beans, at first this irritated us. In the end the tacos were delicious and very filling, sides are not required. Service was great! I highly recommend muchachos, we will be back!
