A visit to The Multnomah Whiskey Library is memorable. Our concierge sent us over with the caveat we probably wouldn't make it up from The Green Room without reservations. A birthday miracle occurred, and we were invited up to the library. Our mid-week-late-afternoon visit probably helped get us in. The enormous selection of whiskey is at first overwhelming, and then you settle in and let your personal bartender help you decide. All cocktails are created table side. It kicks the experience up a notch. We chose to eat a few nibbles along with our whiskey and they were delicious. We know we were lucky and are thrilled we were able to experience the wonder that is the library!

My better half and I appreciate bourbon and scotch with the best of them and this place delivers. Not only do they have an outstanding selection, but the servers are attentive and extremely knowledgeable. The feel is very 1920s speakeasy and the food is absolutely outstanding. We got the burger and fries and it was by far the best I've had (and I live in Texas!). FYI: the place can be difficult to find but the address is correct. Brett was an absolutely outstanding server. When you get there you have to wait in the green room, which is great, but there's usually a wait to get up to the library and they don't take reservations for the day of. Cannot recommend this place enough!

We arrived at the door on a Friday evening, around 3:45pm. We had heard that lines started early here, but we managed to be the first in line on a nice afternoon in June. Success! We were granted seats in the library with a 90 minute window. Take your time when you're choosing your concoction of choice, the menu is massive, just like the wall of liquor. Despite the name, they have many other alcohols in addition to whiskey. The bartenders are some of the best I've encountered and amazing with their recommendations and knowledge of beverages and tastes. Once you order your drink, they'll wheel over a beverage cart and make it right in front of you. Amazing service. Beautiful decor and ambience. Happy Hour Heaven!

We walked up and down SW Alder street looking for the Whiskey library and had to ask a few people where it was. The only presence it has on the street is a door that lead up to a huge room with leather seats and a huge open fire. Such a room would not be out of place in a Scottish castle!!! Additionally around 1500 whiskey (and whisky) bottles line the walls. A must see even if you are not into whiskey - they also sell other alcohol.

OK let me make this very clear. If you've never been to New York then whiskey library is probably the coolest place you've ever been. Most people wait for over 2 to 3 hours just to enter this overrated whiskey establishment. It's a library style whiskey bar that is supposed to be for high-end clients in a city that's not ready for something of this measure. If you don't know whiskey library has a members only club. People pay ridiculous amounts of money to be able to have access to an overrated whiskey bar. Whiskey library has a cool set up and because it's exclusive people want to enter it. Unless you were an absolute whiskey scotch or bourbon person this is not a must see places in Portland. The cocktails or fair price and the mixologists are wonderful. But again there's no music it's quiet hence the name library. So if you're there with a group and you want to try a bevy of cocktails in those categories that I may be a place you want to visit but if you're looking for fun and entertainment whiskey library is not the place. I give it an A- for the service, old fashion and concept in Portland. I think it's exclusiveness is ridiculous, but I get the clientele it's targeting. Not my thing thought it was going to be different

Definitely a place to check out in Portland! Even if your not a whiskey drinker you should go for the ambiance. I even told the bartender the kind of drinks I like and he concocted a delicious whiskey drink! Go at night, even for a late night cap!

Initially hard to see from the street the Multnomah Whisky Library is located on the second floor so you have to keep a close look out or you will easily miss it. Although it is a laid back environment and features an impressive collection of whiskey I wouldn't wait the 2.5 hrs to get in. Yes it was a Saturday night and we didn't have a prior reservation or anything, but I could have gotten another drink or two easily down the street. But if the wait isn't too long would come back again for a hard to find spirit and their cheeseboard. Their cranberry jam is phenomenal!

5 stars great selection of scotch and whiskey great knowledgeable servers great service friendly bartending staff Good Vibes good music!

We got the hall pass to ensure immediate seating. We were seated on the most comfortable leather chairs; and the atmosphere is gorgeous and feels very classy. They roll up to your seat with a little bar cart and mix your drinks by your side. I am not well versed in liqueur, but they suggested drinks for me. The drinks were okay (not really into the hard stuff but wanted to be in the moment), service was awesome and they even brought us glasses of champagne to acknowledge my birthday. The hall pass is worth the money if you dont want to wait to get in and if you want a cushy leather seat. Would go back again for sure and check out their wine list while my hubby explores the cocktail menu....

They must have 1000 whiskies from around the world. Suburb personalized service. You will get your own personal bartender at your seat. Get there at 4:00 PM before going to dinner elsewhere or you won't get in. Expensive, but worth the price.

My husband and I went here on a rainy Tuesday at 4:30. He came from a meeting with coworkers and brought them with us. So three men and myself. They were waiting in the downstairs Green Room with their drinks when I arrived and were taken immediately upstairs to the Library where the service improved considerably. Their downstairs waitress was snooty and rude with zero sense of humor. I had the pleasure of meeting her when another person joined our group (another of the wives). The waitress informed us that there was no more room if we were expecting anyone else (we weren't, but still, how rude). It was early on a Tues and despite the Library not being full, they had crammed us in with another group at the public table. We were fine with that but not be chased down and snarled at by the wicked witch of the Green Room. Our upstairs server, Brett, was phenomenal; knowledgeable and laid back, taking his time as he concocted our drinks or served our spirits from the portable bar, and showed us the bottles of the different spirits he was pouring from. I think there are 1500 spirits, and not just whiskey or bourbon! They had a few gins and vodkas (listing source and where they were distilled), and an impressive selection of tequilas too. One of our party ordered beer, and I think they had wine as well. Another ordered a martini. It was fun and a totally unique experience, so I didn't mind the crazy prices. Food looked good too, but we had reservations elsewhere so only had the delicious rosemary and garlic popcorn. This is a great 'special experience' for any scotch, whiskey or bourbon drinker, and my husband thoroughly enjoyed perusing the massive tome of a menu and sampling a few interesting spirits. I just wish they'd drop the haughty attitude downstairs - first impressions are everything, so I just can't bring myself to give Multnomah Whiskey Library five stars.

We were warned by some locals that they would pretend that there was a wait, but they also said the experience was good once you get in. We showed up at 4:15pm and were told 30-45 minutes. We declined because, really? Came down the road to Kask and had a great experience. If you're ever in San Diego go to the Whisky House and Seattle go to Canon! We have traveled all over to drink whisky and we won't be trying this place again

This was our first visit, as a birthday treat, and our plan was to sample whiskeys. The team of servers and whiskey experts made the experience relaxed, positive and informative. They listened to our taste and curiosity and recommended most politely; checked in often, and quickly recognized our pace and intention for the evening without any pressure to go beyond our plan. We didn't eat though the menu was appealing, but learned new whiskeys as hoped. We had a terrific time in a beautiful setting; felt welcomed and supported by an excellent, knowledgeable and professional staff.

I've never been to a place like this, so I'll share some surprises that will hopefully better prepare you. I'm not sure if they take reservations. We came in off of the street. There was a 20 minute wait but they have a nice bar and lounge area downstairs. When our table upstairs was ready they transferred all of our things up there, which was really convenient. It can be tight up there, and there's shared seating (so if you don't want to be really close to strangers at the same table just be aware of the possibility of it). We didn't mind it at all. The alcohol (and especially whiskey) selection is obscene. It's really impressive. The entire room is a really special thing to see. Full walls of liquor with sliding ladders to access each bottle. Don't come here to eat - come here to drink. The food selection is very limited. This should come as absolutely no surprise though. The food is delicious but it's offered more as a convenience while you drink. You shouldn't be here for the food! I was able to tree 3 whiskey's I've had my eye on for some time. You could easily burn through quite a bit of money drinking here. It's a bit on the pricey side for food and drinks, but it's a special experience and i would recommend it to anyone.

I felt like I was transported back in time when I walked into the bar. Granted that was about two hours after putting my name in, but it was very much worth the wait. I went on a Saturday night with my husband after we heard great reviews of the place. We put our names in, then grabbed a small bite at a spot around the corner. The good thing about this place is they'll call you when a spot has opened for you - no waiting in line or anything. The bar looks just like an old library - bankers lamps line one of the tables, the mismatched lounge chairs throughout add a cool element. The whiskey list is absurd. The waitress we had was helpful in finding us a great whiskey based on our preferences. Overall very cool vibe and a spot I enjoyed relaxing at all night. If you like whiskey, don't miss this stop while in Portland. On the negative side - there is an air of arrogance here that can be a bit off-putting. The wait staff, while helpful, also had a sense of "you're not worth my time..." Also, the food was flat out not good. Grabbed some oysters and a salad and both were pretty bad. So I'd say, pass on the food and stick to a liquid diet while at Multnomah - and don't be offended if you feel a little unwelcome!

This is a membership establishment that allows people in when it is not full. We got there at 5 and were told we would need to finish up by 7 when the place was full for registered members. They have 1200 different types of spirits on hand and a staff that rivals any place I've been with their knowledge. This is the place for the connoisseur of fine spirits. Try a flight if you're like me and enjoy trying new items, or take the recommendation of the staff based on your tastes for a hand crafted cocktail. This is a must see for the whiskey lover!!

A whiskey lovers must visit. It’s a hidden gem among all the microbreweries. It’s proximity to all the main hotels in downtown makes it ideal and the food was not bad either. Their pulled Pork sliders were good! Ask to taste the whiskies sorted alphabetically by region and their cocktails are real good. You could spend many hours with friends and colleagues.

This was definitely a first for me, I've been to plenty of breweries and wine tours but this was awesome. I was a little out if my element and intimidated but the bartender or whiskey master was very friendly, you told him what you like normally and he helped you pick something similar or completely different!! What a great experience with an almost speak easy type of vibe.

Went here upon recommendations from others. While the list of whisky and drink offerings are extensive, I was a bit disappointed in the dining choices. Have had much better food elsewhere, but the atmosphere was nice.

Got to experience the 'regular' bar and then the upstairs 'library' and had a great time! The bartenders are super professional and knowledgeable, the drinks were delicious and the whole ambiance was cool and interesting. Can't wait ti visit again!

If you can get in, this is a great, exclusive, experience with servers who really know their stuff. The menu is not extensive, it is a bible, a compendium of distillery, and the setting is most unique.

The minute you walk through the door (pay attention or you may miss it) you know this is not a restaurant or bar ... it is a more of an old club. The dim lights, dark walls, and overstuffed sofas let you escape the hustle of the city and allow you to relax and enjoy a leisurely evening of good food and drinks. Our bartender Jason was fantastic and showed great skill recommending whiskeys and mixing drinks. Kat our server was a joy and saw to everything. The cheese plate is a must !! Quality cheese with local accompaniments was a great start. I enjoyed a well seasoned chicken and my husband had a perfectly cooked burger. But the dessert was the highlight - Meyer lemon cheesecake with pecan crust. We were surprised to find we had spent two and a half hours eating ... It was such a good time and we were never rushed. This is more than a meal, it is an experience not to be missed.

This is such a cool place to come for a drink. They serve all kinds of alcohol, but do specialize in whiskeys. We got there really early, so we were able to sit and have a drink before dinner. If you come later, there may be a wait-list or they may be only letting members in.

Stood in line for 45 minutes just making sure we were the first in line and got into this small and lovely bar. Bartender was amazing and figured out just what type of cocktail we each would enjoy. Very intimate and impressive bar, well worth the wait!

I was blown away by the large selection of whiskeys and - most importantly - being able to sample them in such a nice setting.

Bar downstairs is a nice place to wait for a spot upstairs in the "Library". The bar has a bunch of whiskies available itself, and the bartenders are walking encyclopedias of whiskey. Amazing. Invited upstairs after a 10 minute wait, half stuffed with whiskey lore already. The "library" upstairs has roughly 1,000 bottles to choose from. I had a salad that was excellent, making me wish I hadn't already eaten. Don't expect to have a full wallet when you leave, but worth saving your pennies to visit. I plan to have dinner there next time I'm in town.

I've been here a few times with members and for private gatherings. There's really no place in the world like it. Best selection of whiskey and knowledgable staff like you wouldn't believe. It's a very impressive place to take an out of towner. Only issue is that it can be really hard to get in. My advice: put your name in and then head over to Tasty 'n Alder for tapas and drinks and at least try to get a nightcap or two at MWL. Give the bartender a favorite whiskey or bourbon or scotch and a price range and let them surprise you.

Waited for 1 hr 20 minutes in the Green Room to go up stairs to the Wiskey library upstairs only to find out that the establishment forget to put our name down on the roster. Along with non of the workers caring to notice us waiting twice the usual time! Such a disappointing Saturday night and a waste of time. This was one of the most disappointing times I've had yet in restaurant experience. I came to Multnomah with my boyfriend with high hopes and expectation to enjoy a great Saturday night sipping on delicious drinks. Arriving at 7:50, we signed up at the front at which the gentlemen said it would be a 45 minute wait to go upstairs in the whiskey library. My boyfriend and I were completely fine with waiting in the Green Room because it was worth it. All in all we waited until after 9pm. To get straight to the point, an hour of waiting, multiple couples who had arrived after us began going upstairs. I went up to the gentleman who was checking people in and he didn't recognize our names on the guest log. Upon giving some bogus answer why our name wasn't coming up yet he said that we were up next which was not true. Again multiple couples continued to go up who had hardly been waiting 40 minutes. In total we waited total for an 1hr 20minutes in passing. Very disappointed that the staff didn't attempt to remedy the situation when I went up to check on our status after that hour had passed. Once again, It was quite obvious that the gentleman had noticeably forgotten to put our names on the guest roster. The only situation where this experience would have been remedied would have been a manager or staff coming with an apology and getting us right up. Instead the gentleman attending the guest log just acted as though it was not their fault that he had messed up. very disappointing. not an ideal way to spend our last night out in Portland on a Saturday night. poor attendance in the Green Room and nobody noticed that we were waiting for almost double the typical waiting time.

We’ll probably never enjoy the upstairs portion of the library, but that is just fine! We enjoyed Old Fashioneds made exactly the right way, along with the cheeseboard and the roasted beets, a happy place for me! The staff is knowledgeable and accommodating. Stop in here; you’ll enjoy it!

Purchase a $25 "hall pass" per person to make a reservation dinner and drinks within the club (normally for members only). Decor and ambience are phenomenal, the food was delicious. I LOVE bars that make up a drink for you depending on your taste. But the added MUST-SEE here is the table-side cocktails.

This place is ridiculously awesome. The vibe is awesome, the ambiance is awesome, the service is awesome, the drinks are awesome. The only drawback is that it is so cool you have to have a reservation, and even to add one person to our party in the middle of our time there seemed like a bit of a hassle to them. Glad we went. Would go again.

My wife and I visited the green room and the Whiskey Library. Both were pretty special places and unique in their own right. It is off the beaten path and you would walk right past it if you didn't know it existed. The whiskey library is upstairs from the green room and feels, well like an old library. Tall shelves of Whiskey, rum, vodka, you name it, they probably have it. They need sliding ladders to reach all the shelves of the booze. You get the option of sitting at the small bar to interact with the bartender, sit at a long library type table, or lounge couches and chairs. If you sit in the lounge area they will wheel a cart and make he drinks in front of you, pretty cool. Overall, its a great experience, the bartender was a little cocky in our opinion, but I guess if you work in that type of atmosphere you may need to be. Glad I was able to see it, but not sure I'd make a special trip back.

We visited the Library not expecting to get in and just wanting to see what the buzz was about However arriving at 4:30 seems to be a good time to be able to walk in. They were we're very gracious and seated us quickly. Our personal bartender provided a wonderful recommendation on a bourbon based on a preference that I provided him. My husband selected his own scotch which was amazing and I don't even like scotch. We shared their burger and fries and as others have stated it's one of the best I've ever had.

We splurged for the hall pass to ensure we would get in. The atmosphere is exactly as we expected. Definitely a neat place to hang out and have a drink. We didn't order any food. Drink prices range dramatically. You can tell the bartenders your general preferences and order a flight - they choose five they think you might like. The bartenders are incredibly knowledgeable (one mentioned they have class 2-3 hours/week).

All you can say when you enter the library is wow! They really thought this one out from beginning to end. Service, yes, atmosphere, yes, food, yes, and oh, spirits, yes.

While they have about 1000 bottles of booze and mostly whiskey, they do make some great cocktails. The greenroom downstairs is nice but the upper room, which can have a wait on Thursday-Saturday night, it the draw. they only allow seating and have about 72 seats and so no standing at the bar. Booze is kind of expensive but you are paying for the experience. A couple of nice food options. Go Monday-Wednesday for no waiting.

Oh, Multnomah Whisky Library, I had such high expectations for you. Perhaps if I’d have had none, this would have been an awesome surprise, but my friend told me she got the greatest old fashioned in her life here, made with a cinnamon infused whisky, but when I inquired about it, Ian the bartender looked at me like I was asking for a Shirley temple made with absinthe. It doesn’t exist anymore, apparently. BEFORE ALL THAT: the downstairs hostess told my friend and me it’d be a 1-2 hour wait (it was 7:30-ish). We took a chance, not knowing what she meant by “the green room” downstairs, and put our name on the list. They called us after a half hour, thank the heavens, and we were led upstairs into a decidedly cool ambiance, speakeasy libations meets beauty and the beast library, with couches. We were seated at a couch corner and served by one nice but humorless waiter, along with Ian the bartender. He wheeled a bar over to us, which was exciting, in order to mix and stir. After copious questions about the level of smokiness in the mezcal used in their s’mores-like drink, I ordered it. (I don’t like the taste of actual tequila, but I do like mezcal if it doesn’t taste like tequila). But of course, after giving me non-helpful answers on recommendations (“Only you know what you want to order”), I ordered the mezcal drink, and of course ALL I could taste was tequila. They kindly replaced my drink with what my friend had (Bourbon Renewal, I believe, off menu for $11. It was very good.) We also ordered the chocolate whiskey cake which was appropriately small and sweet, though I ended up having a better version at The Picnic House. All that to say, the reason I wasn’t super impressed with this place was the staff’s bland personality and the “meh” quality of their drinks. I’m sure folks drinking whisky neat will enjoy the 1800 bottles to choose from, but the cocktails are nothing to write home about. The bartenders seem to know that, too, and therefore care more about the big dogs than about my friend and me. We saw Ian laughing with a nearby table - yes, LAUGHING - yet he maintain stone-faced composure at our attempts to be conversational and complimentary. (This was, fyi, before I asked for a different drink.) Therefore, I consider this spot a one-and-done kind of locale.

You don't go up to the bar, the bartender comes to you, takes your order, then comes back with a very to make your drink. Ask your drink artist about the history of the cocktail he's making for you, or about the history of the place, or the artwork in the walls. He knows a lot. Very fun experience. Can be a long wait, so get there early or plan ahead and make reservations.

We tried to go into the whiskey library but it appears you need a membership or pay a hefty visitors fee (and have a reservation). So we settled for the Green Room downstairs and it was great. Maybe a bit crowded than the proper Whiskey Library but was quite pleased. I am not a whiskey type but enjoyed my ‘improvised whiskey cocktail’ - I think they have non whiskey drinks too (tho I didn’t stray).

Enjoyed a few drink and dessert in this great space. Try the Bob&Weave if you like craft cocktails with bourbon.

I was told by friends that if I was going to Portland that I had to check this place out and I am so glad I did! I'm not a member and I didn't do the hall pass, but I did go pretty close to opening and had no issue. It feels like a grand but cozy drawing room/libary, with different seating arrangements throughout. I was seated at the bar. Service was extremely attentive, and the bartender - Michael - was spot on with excellent suggestions in my price range. And if for some reason you don't like whiskey, don't worry, they carry all those other alcohols too.

This is one of the places in Portland that is a must go to. But visit with your hotel and hope they have a relationship with them b/c they have a $500 membership per year that gets you front row access. Meaning you dont wait at the door. They have a very small bar (although nice) for you to wet your pallet b4 getting access to WHISKEY HEAVEN!! Great conversation with Joshua. He knows his stuff for sure. We got the meat tray. Beef tongue, bone marrow, and liver moose....oh and pickles. Now....most folks would be grossed out by this but Im from the south and small country town so we handled it. But i did keep looking for the buzzard souff'e. enjoy

What a great place for a drink (even if you don't like whiskey). Get there before they open and still plan on waiting up to an hour to sit upstairs in the "library". Beautiful room with good food to pair with a tasting flight or a beer. Bartenders and wait staff were very knowledgeable and friendly, prices were better than anticipated. Fun place to visit while in Portland.

Been dying for the right time to go here...finally paid a visit on a recent Wednesday...the wait downstairs in the Green Room wasn't too bad (approximately 30 minutes). The Green Room alone was a great whiskey room. We were finally brought up to the MWL, and were blown away with the ambiance and selection of whiskeys. We were seated at a table in the back left, and our only knock is that the chairs were kinda "chincy", clearly not somewhere they would sit an actual member. The people waiting on us were very knowledgeable about the menu and did a good job guiding us to a beverage we would enjoy. We also ordered some food (cheese board, fried cauliflower, chicken, etc.) and weren't blown away but very satisfied. If you are a whiskey drinker, or someone that can appreciate a specialized bar clearly run by people with a passion, this is a must-visit....I can't wait to return.

Worth getting here for opening, you should be able to just go straight up to the library and it's a must do if you're a whiskey fan. You're allocated a seat when you go up and a server will be straight over with a massive menu for you to choose from, over 1000 whiskeys and over 600 other spirits.

If you like any type of cocktail go here. We recently started drinking old fashioneds. The bartender suggested we try two different type os bourbon and compare them. She brought a full bar cart to our seating area (comfy couches) and made them in front of us while explaining the difference between each brand so we could learn about what we were drinking. The ambiance is cozy, dark, romantic, and much like a 1920's speakeasy. Get a reservation or go early around 5:00.

great whisky selection. More than 1500 bottles. Nice and classy ambience. But, long wait time to grab a seat upstairs. I would recommend making a reservation.

We visited this place based on the recommendation of friends that we were traveling with. We timed our visit so that we would be there close to the opening on a Saturday...make sure you do that so you won't be turned away...ensure you go upstairs, it is an experience you won't want to miss! The way the 'traveling bar tender' (trust me once you are in the Library, you will know what I mean) attends to your every need is quite enjoyable. When in Portland, make the effort to go there you won't be disappointed!

Expertly crafted drinks and a lively scene make this a much desired place to unwind and enjoy the company of friends.

After looking at all the reviews on here, I decided that this had to be a stop while on our trip to Portland. My husband loves whiskey and this place was amazing. It's an amazing sight if you sit in the library. The wall to wall shelves of alcohol was overwhelming at first, but the bartender was extremely knowledgeable and steered us in the right direction. My husband and I just had drinks here, but it was an enjoyable experience. The bartenders would slide around on ladders climbing up to get different bottles off the shelves. We went right at 4:00 PM and it wasn't crowded and were able to get seated immediately. We left around 5:30 PM and it was packed! FYI!

Went with a few guys. Had to wait to get upstairs, but I believe that is on purpose, part of the experience. The downstairs was good, so the wait is tolerable. Once upstairs, the experience is over the top. From the whiskey bible to pass out, to the experience the staff have, to serving on a cart, everything top notch. I am not actually a huge Whiskey fan, but most of the guys I was with are. I did enjoy the drinks and the overall experience. Something to try for everyone. The appetizers were not great. We had the cheese and meat tray, both were not really well done. With the rest of the experience, this was disappointing, but did not ruin it for me.

Some friends stumbled on this place the other weekend and told me about it. When I was back in Portland the following weekend, we went looking. At first it is a little tough to find but the address is correct, The Green Room is the portal where you put your name in and can have a beverage and or eats while you wait for a place in the library. Hell you can probably do your whole night there if you want but the Library is something to behold. So we put our name in and told 1-1.5 hour wait. We find two spots at the bar in The Green Room and it beings. Contemplated what to have and went right for the throat. Ordered the van Winkle Rye Family Reserve and some oysters. Good stuff. Oysters were great the whiskey too. Our table upstairs became available in very short order. Perhaps our initial order bumped us to the front of the line. I didn't care, I'll take it. Seated upstairs in the Library at a nice table for two. Our waiter introduced himself and informed us that our Librarian would be by as well too. The rest of the night was a marvel of encyclopedic knowledge and expensive spirits. The pricing is not for the faint of heart but I challenge you to find something similar. Our librarian was startling educated about his product and made us feel like we were his only table. Flights of the van winkle and other rare whiskeys. We liked how they would do half pours as well. It allowed us to sample a larger variety of spirits without getting hammered. Food was impeccable as well. Their timing was a little off as part of our order never made it to the kitchen but they were apologetic and brought out some complimentary goodies to bridge the gap in time. They allow a steak tasting plate as well so you can get 2oz of the New York, Wagu and Flank Steak. They were even offering a 36 oz bone in dry aged, but that's a whole lot of meat. Good time and I would likely repeat when I am back in Portland. It is quite a dining and drinking experience.

Came in for a nightcap. Huge selection of whiskeys to choose from. The upstairs reserve room was booked but worth taking a peek of. Had hoped to score a reasonably price taste of Pappy but alas several hundred dollars for a shot wasn't reasonable.

This place is hidden you have to wait in the main bar to get up to the whiskey bar. Once you up there they have a variety of whiskey drinks you can choose from. Their lamb tartar is good.

The Whiskey Library is a richly decorated and marvelous venue, of a style which is now almost unique in the entire Northwestern US. It's ambiance and demeanor harken to a bygone era. I am certain that many in an ultra-liberal town like Portland deride the exclusivity and classical professionalism of an establishment like this, but for a location that appreciates history the Whiskey Library is second to none in this town. It blends the old with the new, and one of the things I love about Portland is the people's ability to try new things. This place is old school, really old, but at offers Oregon's (and probably the entire NW US) best selection of distilled spirits (especially scotches) in an atmosphere that invokes class and sophistication and history. The food is excellent, as is the service.

We got here just as it opened so we didn't have to wait more then 10 minutes to get in. You're first ushered into the Green Room (where you can totally just stay and have a cocktail), but we chose to go upstairs into the Whiskey Library. Its a large room with comfy seating all around and a MASSIVE wall of whiskeys. You're served by multiple people, so we had 2-3 people tending to us throughout the experience. I will say, if you want an intimate experience this is not it (maybe ask for a private area?) as we were seated in a "living room" type area with 2 other couples. The cocktails and whiskey selection were on point and the cheese board was good. They had higher end cocktails for $20+ each but we stuck with the standard menu. Would be great to take visitors to the area as it is very cool.

This was an experience like I've never had. The whisky was nice but even better when served by an attentive and knowledgeable staff.

We came to celebrate a 50th birthday and the Whiskey Library did not disappoint! You definitely need a reservation as this is a popular spot, but once inside the atmosphere hardens back to the warmth and loveliness of years past! Large library tables with green glass shades highlight the cozy room. A massive fireplace at the back with an amazing chandelier provide a sophisticated yet cozy enchantment. But it's the wall of whiskey with soft lighting behind that will have you staring in amazement! Hundreds of bottles to choose from and the staff knows each one intimately! Specialty cocktails available as well as wine to round out the drink experience. If you're in the mood for something sweet a must is the whiskey cake...decadent and delicious! Sit by the fire on a cold, rainy night and relax with a nice glass...it doesn't get much better than this!

If you appreciate good scotch and craft cocktails with thousands of choices, this is a must visit. Now open a downstairs Whiskey bar a great place to meet and have some great cocktails while waiting to get in as visitor to whiskey library. The menu is mind blowing. Worth a special trip for those that want to see one of the best.

Great cocktails and nice whiskey selection visiting for a business trip here and our group enjoyed this venue.

We stumbled upon Multnomah Whiskey Library on a night out in Portland. The host told us that there was a three hour wait to get in but that we could put our name on the list and grab a drink in the downstairs section while we waited. I thought 3 hours was a bit rich but we hung around to try our luck. After about an hour they told us they had a spot upstairs and honestly, it was worth the wait. The bartenders are super knowledgeable, the spirit selection is some of the best I’ve seen and the cocktails are absolutely on the money. Well worth the wait. Shout out to our server Hayley who made the experience even better. Highly recommend.

I decided to treat my special one to a date night here. He had never heard of this place, and I'll admit, I saw it on the bachelor. If you want to treat your man to a special night out, this is a great place to take them. You know you have a hit when your normally private and quiet significant other is texting pictures to their friends! First, we went at 5:30pm on Friday for a pre-dinner experience. I recommend this to avoid waits others complain about. They seat you in the green room, a good ploy to get you to buy extra drinks. We had one drink and after 15 minutes they took us upstairs to the actual library. The room is beautifully decorated, with antique furniture and a warm dark cozy feel. The menu is EXTENSIVE and EXPENSIVE. This is definitely not a place to sit and drink all night unless you are wealthy - this is a special experience that is a bit over the top on the cost. I ordered a cocktail, which was fun because you get your own private bartender that mixes the drinks on a mobile cart he brings to you. Very fun! We stayed about an hour and a half, and then headed on to dinner. Definitely recommend if you want to impress someone or have a special treat for someone.

You only have to look at the photographs to get an idea of the Whiskey Library (and why they call it a "library"). Food is not the focus here. They have the most extensive assortment of distilled spirits (whiskeys, rums, gins, etc) that I have seen in a bar or restaurant (allegedly 1200 whiskeys alone), the waiters are knowledgeable, and the cocktails are excellent. We got there at the 4:00 p.m. opening on a weekday, and there was no line. It is a must-see experience.

This is the man cave you've always wanted to hang out in. Whiskey lovers, you won't be disappointed: there are over 1,000+ types here. Great atmosphere. Definitely bring a few friends or a date.

I went here with my boyfriend who is a huge whiskey lover on our vacation in Portland (my hometown). I’d never been here before but had heard great things and it lived up to the hype. We didn’t have a reservation but somehow got lucky and were immediately seated at the bar. The menu is huge and definitely overwhelming but the bartenders are extremely knowledgeable and provide great recommendations based on your taste and price point. The ambience of the place is very cool and it’s nice for a romantic date or quieter location where you want to be able to hear your conversation and enjoy some great whiskey.

I'm writing this review the morning after we were there, and I'm still blown away by the experience. EVERY staff member we encountered was amazing. They were knowledgeable, genuinely friendly, and I wish I lived in Portland because I would be a regular. This could have been a pretentious, impersonal experience (and they can probably do that if you'd like), but that's not the way I roll. I like friendly, smiling people who love their jobs, so this is my kind of place. Our bartender was Nick and he was very knowledgeable and friendly. My friend wanted a flight of tequila and he chose three for her, and taught us about tequila and mezcal. We weren't starving because we had 9:00 reservations, so we ordered the cheese board and we shared a burger. The cheese board had three high-quality cheeses, crostini, honey, pears, hazelnuts, and a fruit jam. It was the perfect starter for two people. The 8-oz burger and fries were very, very good. I'd also like to give a shout-out to Chelsea, Scott, and Hailey!! It was a pleasure to meet each of you.

For whiskey or cocktails this is the place. Put you name in at the front desk and go get some food elsewhere. They will give you 15 minutes to get back for your spot. Even during the week we had a 2 hour wait but really enjoyed the space, service and drinks. You will get your own personal bartender who will make your cocktail tableside or pour your whiskey. They do half pour for about 60% of the prices. they do know their stuff and will tailor to your tastes.

Once you get in, it's an amazing experience. I knew someone that got us a table at 4pm on a Saturday. The establishment is quite popular, so that's probably what you need to get in at all if you aren't a "member," which requires an application. I'm told that you can easily get in if you go late in the night, close to closing hours. The overall experience is quite nice. You go up the stairs, sit at a table and a bartender comes to you with a cart full of the ingredients required to make whatever you order. I got a rye-based Old Fashioned, and my bartender chose a great rye to make it. Our "reservation" was negotiated by our local regular, and we were strictly held to our 1 hr time. Go on weekdays, I suppose.

As an avid whiskey drinker returned from a year among purveyors of fine Irish whiskey in Dublin, I cherish any opportunity to partake in the wonderful beverage. The Multnomah Whiskey Library (Yes a library these guys don't mess around with their novel length menu) creates a fascinating and exciting experience which made me feel, rather giddy. From the comfortable, rustic interior to the knowledgeable friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere it sets up the stage for an incredible whiskey. I'd like to encourage anyone coming in to this fine establishment to please please not be intimidated or annoyed with the wait line, trust me it's necessary. Although it's nice to get in fast, it's never fun trying to enjoy a fine whiskey while in a crowded bar as it's hard to get comfortable and truly enjoy the whiskey and the potentially long line is solely for the purpose of not crowding the bar and helping you to truly enjoy the experience and ensure a relaxing atmosphere. Enjoy the pleasure of a fine whiskey at the library because I'm not sure if you can find a cooler place on the West Coast.

This was a fantastic place to finish up a great evening. My husband got to try out some amazing whiskeys he can’t find anywhere and we shared some fantastic desserts. The donuts are amazing. My favorite thing is that the place is well spaced. Too many bars cram people in and it’s wall to wall people. This place had comfortable seating and the music wasn’t too loud. Will come here again for sure

We got there right at 4pm (opening time) on a Saturday and waited ~20 minutes in The Green Room (downstairs bar) before getting a table upstairs. Well worth the wait - over 850 different types of whiskey, incredibly service from our bartender (Becks? Bex?), and a fun escape from 'real life' :)

We only had to wait about 25 minutes for a table in this intimate bar. The called us when the table was ready and we got right in. The atmosphere is amazing. Brick walls and awesome shelves to the ceiling with a great selection on whiskeys from all over the world. All of the servers are dressed retro style and the cocktails are also a throwback and very cool. We were very excited to go here and it definitely didn't disappoint. We will be going back next time we are in Portland.

Been alot of places around the world.. very interested in how bars look.. the scale, the layout, the sophistication. This place is in the top 3 in the world in my opinion. 800 scotches/ bourbons + 200 other spirits.. their "bible" menu was overwhelming so ask for help. My best advice.. buy a "hall pass" online for $25/person.. it gets you upstairs into the Library which is the heart of this place.. truly incredible for an avid whiskey drinker. So much fun...

Interesting facility for a dinner or just for drinks. The service was great and the prices were not bad. I enjoyed the wide selection of different scotch that was on hand. My friends had different drinks and they were very happy. Atmosphere was wonderful and we have talked in coming back for dinner and drinks.

The greeter for the Whisky Library was not at all cordial or friendly. We were told the place was full and that we would have to come back. We did as instructed. I wanted to stop here as the eatery had been featured on the Bachelorette on one of Ben and Lauren's dates. When we returned we were taken upstairs and seated at the bar. The person that served us was nice. We ordered sandwiches and my significant other ordered some special whiskey. For sure they have many many different whiskeys to choose from. His whiskey choice was good and our meals were excellent. I did enjoy our visit although the staff is not the most welcoming or friendly. However, our sandwiches and fries were worth the trip as was seeing the wall of Whiskey. It is not a place that I would necessarily return based on the attitudes of the host and the overall atmosphere.

This place is ONE OF A KIND. The Staff really knows their stuff. It is almost overwhelming to make a choice on your own - HOWEVER, the staff will ask a few questions and help you make a Great Choice. Each whiskey really has its own unique glass and ice cube, and is prepared table side. Such a COOL experience. It really looks and feels like a Library too!

Hard to surpass the number of excellent whiskies and the mixology in this beautifully historic atmosphere.

Took friends here that enjoy bourbon and we all had a at time and they were very impressed with atmosphere, drinks and excellent service.

Wow. We went to The Green Room downstairs just for cocktails and didn't even know the Library was upstairs! It was amazing. Super high end room but you could be dressed casually, the most amazing whisk(e)y/spirits selection and the bartenders had endless knowledge on them all it seemed. We built our own whisky flight!

I have been here 3 or 4 times and I understand that it is popular, and we had friends in town, but the arrogance of telling me 2-3 hours 45 minutes after you open was surprising. I got the call 3.5 hours later to tell us our spot was open. We had been out to other places by then and were having a good time and didn't need MWL. Won't be trying that again. Portland has plenty of other fun, accessible places.

Although we arrived at 4:10 pm on Saturday hoping to get a table, we were kindly added to the waiting list with an estimated 45-minute wait and invited to have a seat in the beautiful downstairs "Green Room" bar where we waited a pleasant hour and 20 minutes for a table upstairs. It was worth the wait with attentive service both upstairs and downstairs. The Green Room only has a few single malt scotches on the bar menu, but it was interesting watching the skilled bar tenders mixing drinks. The scotch menu upstairs is truly impressive with a leather bound volume of pages upon pages of whiskies from a wide range of prices. The upstairs waiter recommended two single malt Speyside scotches within our price range that were excellent. The menu selection is rather small. We ordered delicious cauliflower soup with focaccia, a silky freshly made pasta dish, and a perfectly cooked flavorful burger and with a cup of wonderfully prepared fries. The coconut and grapefruit dessert with French press coffee was also very good. The dark dining room is a delight with soaring ceilings, tall private leather booths, green library lamps, a wood fire, and walls of lit spirits with rolling library ladders. We have a new favorite place to dine in Portland!

They literally have everything. Their cocktail list had like 10 or so house cocktails. Then there was a 100 page book of spirits which was a bit daunting. Bartender was knowledgeable and able to offer advice. I enjoyed the peated scotches. Also their dark chocolate whiskey cake was lights out good with a crunchy hazelnut crust. Super cool on the inside. Tables with the green lights mimicking an actual library. And the bookshelves with the sliding ladders that the bartenders were climbing to get bottles.

Went there with a client and asked to stairs to the library room. I was advised that I could not because they were full so we were seated at the bar. My client decided to walk up on his own to check it out and came back down advising that there were plenty of seats both at the bar and several open tables. I was quickly vies by the hostess that my friend should not have gone up without her permission and gave me a very stern and unfriendly luck. I decided, being the rebel that I am, to go up as well and check it out. I too, noticed that there were several open seats both at the bar and at tables. When I notified the hostess of the situation, she chastised me and was very upset that I took it upon myself without her permission to go upstairs noting that I completely disrespected her authority. I thought to myself this is very very weird and I shared my thoughts with her noting a Seinfeld episode that was the end of this. She got very offensive and said that I need to be seated immediately a risk being thrown out of the restaurant. Within five minutes, the manager approached me and asked to speak to me in private to which I have course obliged. She advised that I had suggested that the hostess was weird and that she was asking us to leave immediately! I tried desperately to reason with her that she would have nothing of it and when I suggested she was embarrassing me she quickly said I need to leave immediately or she would call the police. WHAT??? Really??? OK wherever… Enjoy your crazyness!!! Portland has amazing restaurants and if I am blessed to have my 750,000 m read this, perhaps senior management will take note and have a little bit tied up with the manager on duty this evening and the hostesses that deliberately mislead and lied to their manager because they felt their authority was not respected! I thought that being customer centric meant the customers I was right… In this instance the manager clearly did not care about myself of the story and was completely supporting a fabricated statements by the two front hostesses. It was very early in the evening and I did not even have one drink as of entering the restaurant. In fact we ordering our the first drink when we were asked to leave it behind. I travel every week of my, dine out. I less that 20 times a week and almost always praise restaurants I eat out (99% of the time). I'm sorry but I just had to share with my readers how awful the management and the staff behaved on this evening and without question I will never go back again!

My husband and I got to try the library last night 10/10 it was a Tuesday. We did not have a reservation we got there right at opening we were the first in line there were two other people behind us. They were able to accommodate us at the bar and they said we could have the seats until 5:05 since they had a large party coming in. That was enough time for us to enjoy a drink and a cheese board and soak up the ambiance. The bar tender was very nice and knowledgeable. It’s pretty $$$ but your paying for the experience and the service. The cheese board wasn’t the best ever, but we would definitely be back for a drink if we had the opportunity.

Still trying to understand the model here. Apparantly members can use the upstairs bar, but the downstairs section has the same stuff. Anyway, had a couple of great drinks and an appetizer to die for.

A walk up a wooden stairway, through a normal looking door and...wow. The restaurant could be in New York, Chicago or really any major city in the world.

There's so much whiskey on the menu that it's hard to know where to begin. If you like whiskey, but don't know too much about it, ask one of the servers and they'll give you a few of their recommendations (that's what we did). The biggest downside is the whiskey is expensive - and rightly so. I'd recommend you start your evening here, have a shot or two and then head off someplace where the alcohol is a bit cheaper.

We visited the Multnomah Whiskey Library on the recommendation of a family member. They set up the whole experience to make you feel like you're getting into some secret underground prohibition era whiskey club. We waited in The Green Room for a table and had a drink there first. You're escorted upstairs where bags and coats can be checked. We sat "German style" at a long (shared) library table with other pairs. My husband and I each got a couple of drinks and an appetizer. The possibilities were endless. While the experience feels high society, we never felt under-dressed in our regular clothes (sweaters/jeans) but you could definitely visit here for a nice/dress up date night as well. Very well executed. We've never experienced anything like it.

The pros- great selection of liquor. The cons- wait in the Green Room downstairs (have drink sir?), indifferent service (waited 10 minutes to have a server come to the table after we were seated), expensive for what you get ($210 for 5 shots and a cheese plate). Spent less for dinner at Fogo de Chao.. An experience to be savored for a special occasion, but I probably will not do back.

This was our second time at the Whiskey Library and the service and food was wonderful! The atmosphere is amazing and the service is impeccable! We enjoyed it so much we added our name to the wait list to become members. This is one place you don’t want to miss.

Went here on a friend's recommendation and arrived shortly after they opened around 4 pm. They were already getting busy. They seated us in the Green Room downstairs where we had a drink while waiting to go upstairs to the main area. The main area has high ceilings, lots of dark wood and leather and 1700 bottles of spirits. Our bartender, Cat, was excellent. She recommended scotch that exactly met what we were after and was very friendly and educational. She did the same for the couple that joined us in the 4 seat area.

They have a nice selection of drinks on the menu & shelf, folks are knowledgeable, Fries are a must-try recommendation for Vegan, Fried cauliflower was ok, missing some additional spice,

You will want to line up ahead of time, since the line quickly got long before it even opened. Inside is beautiful and a great experience. The wall of liquor is amazing. Expect drinks to be expensive. They have a great range or liquor and prices, and mix drinks right next to you on a cart.

We had a group of 5 so we purchased Hall passes so we could skip the line and have a nice Booth. We ordered the meat board the cheese board and a bread basket so we had some amazing snacks while sipping on some cocktails some of which have been around over 100 years. I had a great Manhattan which had a bit of Absinthe added for a little something different. The ambiance was great and our bartender was amazing and very knowledgeable. I wish we lived closer. Definitely a must do if you like whiskey and are in the Portland Oregon area.

I will state right off that I am not a fan of whiskey, but my 3 companions are. I had a cocktail that I could not finish. They mainly enjoyed their drinks. The waiter was quite supercilious. I made a joke and he glared at me, which ruined the rest of the visit for me. We ordered the cheese board. For $15. We got maybe one ounce of cheese, some shaved bread and 5 nuts. The ambience is nice, reminding me of the libraries you see Downton Abbey, but that did not balance the waiter and the prices for me. My companions enjoyed it more than I did.

Step through the door and you immediately know you're not in a typical bar. If you're a connoisseur of fine bourbon, whiskey, rum, etc. then you've found your people. If this isn't normally your comfort zone, don't shy away, the bartender took very good care of me and I'm a beer girl. From the beverages, the environment and the people, you'll be happy you adventured here.

My partner and I purchased two $25 Hall Passes” ($50 total) which is for those persons who may not live in the area but want to have a fine drink in a private club atmosphere. In the online reservation process you have to state the date that you want to visit along with your contact information. I purchased the pass 8 days before my visit and received an email confirmation the day before. I also received a voicemail to call to arrange the reservation time. I tried returning the call 7 times over 4 days and no one would answer so I left a message 3 days prior stating my name, the date and the specific time that I would be coming in. I also stated my phone number twice and asked them to reconfirm by calling me back. I never received a call back. On the day of my “reservation” we showed up at the time I had noted. The concierge at the front desk could not find any record of our hall pass nor reservation. I showed her the confirmation email from them and explained that I had returned their call numerous times and left a message with all the specifics but never received a return call. She said she would try to see if they could work us in but it would have to be at the bar as they were completely booked. After 15 minutes we were led upstairs and seated at the bar where we enjoyed a few drinks and a lite bite. All in all the interior is comfortable and warm but the staff attitude, drink prices and entire process is off putting and less than hospitable especially dealing with the young lady at the front stand. Drinks were almost double the cost from what I experienced at other establishments that I have visited for the same high end brands. I would recommend another less cumbersome and more welcoming venue for a drink.

From the green room downstairs to the service it was a top notch experience! Our server selected excellent whiskeys, ryes, and scotches for us and the food was superb. Order the oysters! Highly recommend but know that you only get 2 hours to enjoy...

The Multnomah Whiskey Library is a very successfully run gimmick. The first part of the gimmick is that the aura of exclusivity is suggested by the claim that it is a membership driven establishment, and in order for the mundane patrons to have dinner there, you must buy a "Hall Pass" for $25 each (get it? the Library and Hall Pass?). So my wife and I bit the bait and bought the hall passes for out anniversary dinner out. The Green Room downstairs is festive enough, but you begin to notice the beginnings of the hypnotic sequence when all the bartenders mix the drinks exactly the same way> in a glass jar, with a specific amount of ice, and slowly, expertly, ever so thoughtfully, start stirring it in front of you, making an ever so slight tinkling sound, slowly, with the extra long bar spoon. Mesmerizing...soon, you are under the hypnotic suggestion that this place is really something special. Dinner is served upstairs, and we're seated at a very small 2-top table, away from the booths and more desirable tables towards the center of the room, apparently for 'members only'. The 'library' is small, about the size of an average McDonald's restaurant. One of the magic mesmerizing bartenders quickly appears, long bar spoon in hand, and takes our cocktail order. Very soon, he reappears with a flight attendant-type cart, on which he pours the liquor into the now familiar glass jar, with the specific amount of ice, and slowly starts to stir, and the tinkling is the same hypnotic suggestion> this place is really something special. I ask the diner next to us about what he had ordered for dinner. "It's for members only." After about 30 minutes of no attention, I ask the magic bar spoon bartender if he indeed was also our waiter. He says, "I am a bartender...and a waiter", spoken kind of slowly, kind of trace-like. Okay. The Hall Pass menu has a chicken dish, a hamburger, or a 3 pound ribeye for $95. I kid you not. It comes with 2 sides, soup and a root vegetable gratin. The soup tasted like they plunked an apple in hot water for a while, probably stirred it with the magic bar spoon, and served it. It tasted like lukewarm apple water. The gratin was a very small mash of unrecognizable semi-gray assumed vegetables. Terrible. The $95 ribeye came on a big platter, with the rib eye sliced in 2x3 inch chunks. They also included on the platter, the bone (?), and all the pieces of fat, perhaps to prove the advertised 3 pound weight before it was cooked. Terrible. The hypnotic suggestion that this is some exclusive place, is also attempted by needing a 'code' for the bathrooms. The dining room is far into the building, and up a flight of stairs. Not much chance of an undesirable bum-rushing the bathroom. Each gender bathroom has their own special code> 2345 for the females, and 7890 for the males. Ooooo. Very special. My advice: Do not be mesmerized by the magic tinkling and extra long bar spoon and pay $25 each for a Hall Pass, to then be relegated to an inferior table in an otherwise impressive room, and then be offered worse than mediocre food for an unimaginable exorbitant price for a ribeye. Caveat emptor. Go to a hypnosis show instead.

some of the reviews here call this place out as a tourist trap and that it's an exclusive club and you'll need to wait forever to get in. I got to the point where I started believing it wouldn't be worth the visit but we decided to show up right when it opened and got right into the main bar at a table. The service was quick and extremely knowledgeable about the whiskeys they had and made good recommendations if you asked. The woodwork and setup with all the bottles is impressive as is the vast amount of whiskeys available. We tried the cheese board while we were drinking and while it wasn't huge it was enough for 4 of us to snack on with our whiskey. I'd definitely recommend stopping in here for a drink, don't let all the bad reviews put you off.

This place has one of the best whiskey list I have come across. The staff is knowledgeable and make good recommendations. I did find the prices to be higher than what I usually see on some whiskeys buy you are paying for the atmosphere. Overall I say it is worth the trip if you can get in without having to pay for the reservation.

Even if you are not a whiskey fan, the atmosphere and customer experience is a must do. Make sure to arrive early and line up before they open. The bartenders are able to make excellent recommendations based on your preferences. This place is not cheep so it’s only a one drink stop! The food is also very good but expensive. The salt and pepper fries were out of this world - the ketchup and the whiskey aeoli were ridiculously good! If I could have taken home a bottle of each I would have. Be sure to ready the information about the history at he back of the menu - very interesting and informative.

I spent an hour enjoying the main floor bar (it's very good) before going up to the library. The Library is definitely a "wow" - this place is fantastic. Friends were impressed and I think most anyone would be. Eventually we came back down to the main floor bar and had another drink there too. Everyone liked the place and was certainly talking about it the next day.

Eas recommended to visit this bar abd restaurant that offers a wide variety of whisky and whiskey, and other spirits, from all ower the world. I recommend to pre-book, but waiting for a table in The Green Room (a connected bar) is a very good option. Was impressed by the variety and service, and didnot expect much from the food. But I had the best burger I have ever had at a whisky bar! And the whisky was even better! A must see and experience in Portland.

The "Green Room" is the downstairs area of the bar and is open seating to anyone. Upstairs is far better atmosphere but it takes a while to get up there unless you're a member. Great whiskeys and fun place!

This is a place you must visit even if you don't like whiskey! The ambience alone with soft library lights, comfortable leather seating and large distressed wood tables are inviting to all. The incredible bar is something to behold! Come for the ambience but stay for the hundreds upon hundreds of whiskeys and the delicious food!

Loved our visit - knowledgeable and personable bartenders both upstairs and downstairs, and a nice selection of scotches. Would definitely return.

An amazing way to spend an afternoon. The rumors were that it would be busy, since it is a members club, but we went on a weekday, early in the afternoon. The scotch, bourbon and whiskey book (yes, book), is an amazing array of choices. Young ones, old ones, expensive ones, less expensive ones, and some food to tag along. The staff is knowledgeable and the environment calming. If you get a chance, do stop in.

Our bar tender really knew his stuff! The place itself is quite amazing with and interesting atmosphere. This is a place to savor along with the whiskey (do t plan to pop in for a quick drink.) I enjoyed some of the most unusual and best popcorn ever with my old fashioned while my husband enjoyed a wonderful scotch whiskey. I'm hoping we will have time to go back!

We had been wanting to try this bar for a few years and finally got the chance earlier this month (Sept 2017). I'd read that it was difficult to get into without a significant wait, so we decided to go early (i.e. when they opened at 4pm). When we got there, there was already a line of people also waiting to enter. (Be advised, there is minimal signage, so make sure you have the correct address or you'll miss it!) We were, however, lucky enough to get in at that time. Upon entering I was truly entranced by the selection on the walls and the ambiance of the bar itself. Lots of dark wood and leather chairs and small tables; but also longer "group" tables that you may have to share with other customers. Bottles on the upper shelves are accessed by library ladders; fun to watch. The selection of libations, evidenced by the massive, leather encased menu, was nothing short of astounding. I would challenge anyone to name a scotch/whisky that they don't have. The selection, however, is not limited to scotch or whisk(e)y; they have numerous selections of bourbons, gins, vodkas, tequilas...whatever your little heart desires. They also serve food, however, we had just eaten a large lunch, so we can't speak to the quality or selection of food. Although some of the more rare selections such as Pappy or Stagg or aged vintages may have some "staggering" prices, many of the others are quite reasonable (e.g. the 3 of us had 2 rounds of drinks [wine and specially prepared cocktails] and the bill was less than a shot of C.T. Stagg. Cat was our server and she did an excellent job of recommending and preparing a number of cocktails from a cart right at our table. I would say, however, that there was a bit of a feeling of "pretentiousness" exhibited by a couple of the employees that I could have done without. Having said that, I would not, however, let that dissuade anyone from going to the Library and checking it out. If you enjoy exploring new cocktail venues during your travels I would highly recommend a stop at the Library...just go early, unless you have lots of time to wait.

We went for our anniversary and just WOW! As soon as the doors opened up to the second floor I was blown away by the decor and styling. The fireplace is super cool. I started with a mezcal cocktail that was boozy and delicious. And the charcuturie board, everything on it was high quality and tasty. Thanks MWL :)

I went to this bar on a whim with two other colleagues. They had been to the downstairs, The Green Room, and raved about the selection. When I asked why they didn't go upstairs, they said they didn't think it'd be worth the wait. So I put our names on the list and made them wait, hoping it'd be worth it. And my oh my, was it worth the wait. I have never seen a larger selection of whiskey in such an ornate setting. It honestly looked like potions class from Harry Potter. The cart presentation of your selection is very cool too. The only negative I can come up with is that the music isn't suited for the setting and it's just a little too loud. If I ever get back to Portland, I will definitely be coming back.

What a cool place and the best cocktail I’ve ever had! I would easily go back again. It’s hard to find, but once you do it’s the best!

There are few places that hit the spot like this one. Craft cocktails amazing whiskey library and great bites of food. Not to mention the awesome space they occupy it is the ultimate man cave, with a real wood fireplace leather chairs and swanky atmosphere.

One of the gastronomic highlights of my trip to Portland, the Whiskey Library serves up the most inventive, delicious and expertly-prepared cocktails on the West Coast, with a selection of liquor that puts nearly all other bars to shame. Great food/small plates to boot.

We came to soak up the atmosphere and maybe a drink or two. We were not disappointed. Our waiter was knowledgable, engaging, and attentive. 1600 different whiskies, plus other creative cocktails, and a snack to dinner menu (we only had their very tasty popcorn -$5)

We were visiting Portland for the Thanksgiving holiday and stopped by the library after recommendations from friends. We walked up without a reservation - I would recommend making one - but the hostess was friendly and accommodating. She told us it may be over an hour wait, but did offer for us to just go up and check out the space if we wanted to do that. We opted to wait and were pleasantly surprised that were able to be taken after about 30 minutes. We only ordered drinks - and with 1600 bottles there are plenty of options for both taste and price. We would definitely visit again.

Very unique, cool spot for drinks. Huge whiskey selection but also every other liquor imaginable. Seating is very comfortable, and the noise level is minimal so it is easy to hold a conversation. We lived it here and will make it a priority the next time we are in Portland!

If you are looking for hard to find Scotch, Bourbon, Whiskey, etc, etc., they have it! Great atmosphere. If your going to Portland, you really should check this place out.

This is sort of a private club/restaurant. I definitely recommend you get the hall pass if you are going to eat. Excellent selection of single malts. They had my favorite. The service and food were above reproach. Looking forward to a trip back next year. The dining is actually fair value for money but the single malts can be a bit pricey.

We didn't have a reservation, not did we have an hour for a wait, so we didn't get to go into the Library itself. However, we were able to enjoy some spirits in their downstairs area, which was delightful. We enjoyed some delicious cocktails and made friends with some other travelers and locals. If you're in the neighborhood, or enjoying a delicious dinner at Shalom Ya'll next-door, take a minute to enjoy a libation.

Coming out of the deep South, I am very particular about the bourbons I like. The joke in my company is that I will try any bourbon once, as long as it is made in Kentucky or a state touching Kentucky. We went to "the library" on a Saturday night. It was packed and they told us it was a two hour wait. Our group of four, all coming out of Seattle were "ok" with that. They took our phone number and we headed to another bar, Shift Drinks about a block away. I highly recommend that, but it is for a different review. We got our call and headed to the library. We waited for a couple of minutes while our table was set-up. Here is my experience: Walking In: I felt like I was in a 1950's mob movie, in a good way. Leather couches, crystal chandelier's and low lighting. The first thing I notice is that the whole bar turns around when someone new walks in. Less snotty, more like how I would feel walking into a bar where I know everyone. Ordering: As I mentioned, I like bourbon (I went to Ole Miss, it is a bit of a religion), and I love trying new things. Our bartender/server handed a massive list of bourbon. I was overwhelmed. To counter this feeling, I described what I liked and what I did not like and told her a price range. In my case I gave her a $40 - $60 range. The Results: Came back with a bourbon I have, Blade & Bow. I had heard of it, but not yet tried it. It was very good, but for this review, the key is that it was on the lower end of the price scale. I appreciate that. I don't mind spending the money, but make it worthwhile. With my second drink, I had a similar experience. Overall: I highly recommend heading to the library. Clearly some of the patrons are more of the 20 somethings, but being older, I felt right at home and would recommend it. Tips: 1) Let the servers help you pick the right drink for you 2) Don't be afraid to set a price range. There is the right drink for everyone regardless of budget 3) Be patient. This bar is cool. Good things come to those who wait. 4) Green room, might not be my scene. Was a bit more energetic than being upstairs in the library

Came here last week when visiting with friends from out of town. Only one of us is a whiskey drinker, but it did NOT dampen our experience at all. We arrived about 3:50pm on a Monday, with a small line outside. We had to wait about 10 minutes while they worked to seat those in front of us, but it was not bad at all. When my whiskey-drinking friend came a couple months before, it was a two-hour (plus) wait, so we considered ourselves lucky! The library itself is a marvel. Dimly lit with rich leathers and dark woods. The wall of spirits is SO cool, I found myself staring at it most of the night. Our bartender was fantastic. What started as an intimidating experience for my friend, ended up being well worth it. What it comes down to: trust your bartender! Give them suggestions on flavors/whiskeys you DO like, a price point, and they can create a flight for you. The other items were great, as well. We enjoyed a half dozen oysters, some bread, and a few glasses of wine. Ultimately, we would probably skip the food and get something from the trucks outside, but enjoyed it as a whole. Would definitely take others back to this spot!

One of the coolest, most interesting bars I've ever been to. If you like whiskey, even remotely interested in it, I would recommend you stop by this place whenever you're in Portland. There are two floors to this bar, and the downstairs is the smaller "waiting area" with first come, first serve arrangement. The waiting area is a decent bar in itself with lots of options. However, it doesn't compare to the whiskey selection upstairs when you actually get in. The selection is absolutely dazzling and impressive to even a non whiskey drinker. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of whiskey bottles lined up and it has the perfect old school sophisticated vibe that you think of with whiskey. The wait on a Thursday night around 10pm was about an hour to go upstairs. There is a hostess downstairs and you give your name and wait around until they call you to go up. Definitely worth a visit!

We went full boat for a 50th birthday. Cocktail, appetizers, dinner, dessert. Plus 2 flights and a night cap. All over a 4.5 hour period. We paid the extra fee to be treated like members. In summary: have dinner at an excellent restaurant first, and then come here for dessert and a flight and/or night cap. 3.5 stars due to food service and quality not matching the high expense. Details: The tasting experience was absolutely superb. Our bartender was knowledgeable, friendly, and approachable. My friend was a whiskey virgin, and she really enjoyed it. Our flights were well chosen in consideration of the tasters palate. Appetizers were a waste of money. Cheese plate was decent but limited in cheeses. Meat board was underwhelming except the bone marrow - smear that on anything and you'd eat it! But in the end don't waste your money. Dinner plates were good, but came out way too early even though we asked no dinner until we'd finished our flights. By the time we ate dinner it was cold - our server new we were unhappy but left them at the table anyway. A good server would have apologized, taken them away, and brought them back later when we were ready. Spoiled the tasting experience. Desserts were excellent. Had a cognac with mine and my friend had a very good local whiskey with hers. Atmosphere is wonderful. Dark paneling, leather tucked booths, wood burning fireplace, wall of mirrored liquor. Perfect for relaxing and drinking whiskey.

Great, busy, classy. Beautiful ambience. Good service. I am told they have over 1200 different whiskeys from around the world!! They offer other drinks as well but whiskeys are the main attraction. Very knowledgeable sommelier's,very professional and will offer alternatives to your taste. Food is available. Unforgettable experience , well worth the price.

We love this place. It is such an amazing atmosphere with shelves of whiskey set up like a gentlemen's library with a big fireplace, overstuffed leather couches, etc. Service is always excellent. It is fun to try new spirits and concoctions and staff is always able to provide recommendations.

I wasn't sure what to expect. Other reviews talked about dress code or 'waiting downstairs' but we arrived early, not dressed up by any stretch of the imagination, and were taken upstairs immediately and given a very fine place to sit. After hearing about how experienced the servers were, I was ready for a little bit of 'holier -than-thou', but instead we were attended to by three very warm, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful young individuals. We started with a glass of wine (beer for my husband) and thought we would have something to eat first. We ordered the bread basket (comes with cultured butter, oil and salt flakes) and the cheese platter. It was perfect. The three different bread varieties were excellent. The cheeses were lovely (and came with a crispbread as well). Just enough. We took our time enjoying the food, and eventually tried the whisk(e)ys. My husband started with a Cadenhead Classic Islay, and later a lovely Bunnahabhain 18 (we were celebrating a health milestone for him). I had a Glenmorangie Milsean the waiter thought I would like, then just enjoyed a Writer's Tears, which I know and love. This was huge fun. The inventory is amazing. It was fun to watch the lithe young servers slide the rolling ladders across the floor, and climb several feet to reach a certain bottle. They are not only knowledgeable but fearless. Water glasses were quietly refilled, everything was noticed. We had a lovely, lovely time here. We strolled back to our hotel, just a few blocks away, the day still warm and light.

This is an unusual experience and no you don't have to have an interest in whiskey. The atmosphere of a 1920's speak easy is just soooo well done. We had both cocktails and a beer.... I know.... at least one of us enjoyed a mixed drink. The 1800 bottles on the wall along with the overall ambiance, is very much worth visiting. They do have a limited menu of food both entrees and small plates, however our visit was solely for drinks.

Purchased a hall pass to make sure we could get seated quickly as I had heard the general wait can be quite long. Although the selection of whiskey and liquor is quite impressive the seating is a bit strange. We were seated on the couch next to a couple wingback chairs across from another couch surrounding a coffee table occupied by three different parties. Don't think I'll be back, but it was fun to try for an evening night cap.

I have heard of great things about this whiskey library and it sure did not disappoint! The Whiskey connoisseurs were all superbly dressed and appear from a different era and so extremely knowledgeable. We ordered two drinks each and one that they specially made according to your taste preference. I love them both and could stay here for hours and you feel lost in another time, more preferable than the current era. Unfortunately we had more sight seeing to attend to and had to sadly leave. We went on a weekend but in the daytime (around 5ish) and to our surprise there wasn't a wait time! Would visit agin on my next trip to Portland for sure

This is not a cheap nor easy place to get in. It is worth the wait and money. This is a 5-star experience. The wait staff are superb, and the drinks are fantastic. The employees are very knowledgable and clearly enjoy what they are doing, and who they work with. Liz was fantastic and brought me great drinks based on what types of things I like. Great night!

Best bar ever! Try there old fashioned with a good rye-perfection! I highly recommend you try this bar. Get your name in early because the wait list can be long. Enjoy the green room while you wait.

This place is so cool. Our friends got a private room. Great time, great drinks, great service. So many choices.

I enjoy whiskey, but I'm no connoisseur. I don't have expensive taste and anything pricey is wasted on my humble palate. However, the steak here was amazing. Probably the best damn steak I've ever had.

Here for a private event of about 200 ppl. It feels like an old speakeasy. History Is surrounding you in the library. Hundreds of whiskeys and scotches plus other alcohol. Rolling ladders on tall shelves to reach the booze. All staff were very good bar tenders but Artist Michael was the intriguing star! The ice cubes are hand crafted/carved and so pure that you can see your hand thru the cube and glass! A fun night with colleges in a very charming Destination.

This place is absolutely amazing! Not only do they have an amazing list of whiskeys to try, they also have extremely knowledgeable staff. It is a good spot to go in and try different whiskeys as they also have a number of local selections available to try. Cocktails are available as well since the servers have a small trolley which carries all the materials and equipment they need to make them. The atmosphere is amazing and I love the decor as it is reminiscent of an English gentleman's club (or what I imagine one would be like) with public tables. My husband and I sat at one of the public tables with some other couples. Good times!

A Tuesday night at 5:45 we were able to go directly upstairs to the main library where the good books are 😉. If you have any interest at all in whiskey, this is an experience not to be missed. The ambiance alone is worth the effort. Massive selection and bar staff that are able to explain and make suggestions. They bring your chosen selection on a cart and pour in front of you. We enjoyed having a personalized flight of bourbons to try. There are average priced selections as well as some astoundingly pricey options for the aficionados of the world. So glad we took the time to stop by. It’s an experience.

We arrived in a Monday night to find the place sparsely occupied, empty tables and no line up. Even so, we were asked to wait outside for about 15 minutes before we could be served. Seriously?? We returned to our 5 star hotel and are quite happily, enjoying whiskeys in our hotel bar.

Got here before 4 and waited outside in line in the cold. It was worth the wait! The experience was wonderful and the service was excellent! We had starters and cocktails and chosen flights by our bartender. The atmosphere was incredible. I will go back when visiting Portland again!

Hey, it's five o'clock somewhere!!! Be in line early for their 4pm opening, and you'll be sure to get into the main room - but even the Green Room is a comfortable place to enjoy the vast selections available. While you would think that such a comprehensive whiskey library would be accompanied by an equally experienced bar hand, able to share decades of experience about the vast repertoire of available spirits, it was amusing to see just how young the entire staff was. But, it didn't matter! They make a great cocktail (right at your couch!), make great recommendations when you get stuck with the plethora of choices, and have an encyclopedic knowledge of their available bottles (which is only fitting for a library, of course). The atmosphere is inviting without being pretentious, so come as you are! Yes, you are going to spend more than you plan to, but the experience is worth it.

This place is so awesome and so classy. My husband is a whiskey connoisseur so this was a must on our visit to Portland. You need to arrive at their location by 3:45pm and get on their list to be seated in the library. We enjoyed every bit of our experience at the Whiskey Library.

I had heard about this place from a few friends, but didn't realize how amazing this bar actually is! My husband and I had no reservations (highly recommend to have one if you are planning on going later in the evening), but we had just gotten into downtown after flying in from Oakland around 4PM which is right when it opens. It was slightly busy, but no need for reservations at that time. We also had a hell of a time finding the place, since it is attached to the Green Room (also aesthetically pleasing!) and the sign is very subtle. Once we found it, we were greeted by a staff member who asked us to follow her to the back of the building through old saloon like doors; it all made sense why it was so subtle, as it very much had that speak easy feel to it. We felt like we time warped back to the 20s with the dark wood walls, large mantel with old decanters, vintage furniture and old library desks with green bankers lamps. There was a small bar area with an exceptional wall of what we cam to know, of 1600 bottles of spirits on what may have been about 8-12 shelves, equipped with vintage rolling library ladders. I will have an occasional whiskey on the rocks with a splash of water, but my husband LOVES whiskey and I think this became one of his favorite spots. We were here for 3 hours; ordered the most delicious old fashions we've ever tasted and then followed with flights of whiskey; he chose Japanese and i stuck with Irish, to expand my palette outside of Jameson. The book of whiskey is overwhelming, but their staff is so well educated, it was easier to chat with them. Also, did I mention you get your own personal bartender!? He rolled over his bar cart to make our old fashions which I thought was swanky. We also ordered cheese and meats to snack on - also very good. If you love whiskey, highly recommend! They also make other cocktails, so if you are looking for a good drink - still an awesome place to visit.

Cozy, unusual place to relax or impress friends. The spirits menu is voluminous. But no worries, the staff can make perfect recommendations. There are a lot of non-scotch/whiskey offerings too. Food menu is varied I enjoyed fresh oysters and later cheese with hazelnuts. I recommend making a reservation

I went to Portland on a Whiskey & Beer vacation A friend of mine was able to get us reservations on a Thursday evening. You start in a small bar down stairs. The Whiskey Library is above and they wont let it get crowded. When we all arrived we headed upstairs. The ambiance was great, bottles of Whiskey all looking down at you wanting to say "taste me" We tried three different Whiskeys/ Single Malt. you get a personal bartender for help in choosing you whiskey. They were all good, so If you like Whiskey you need to visit this place. The Disneyland of Whiskey

I love trying new spirits and we were super excited to get to try some hard to find brands! This place had been recommended to us by a few different people, so we were looking forward to stopping by. It was a Friday night so we were expecting a wait to go in and planned on having a couple drinks in the downstairs bar. What we were not expecting is for the place to be pretty empty while we had to wait... and for the staff to be not so nice. They never called us to go in, and then closed upstairs without letting us know, so we where still "waiting" to go in... Having lived in both NYC and LA, and traveled all over, I'm not much for waiting in line... The place looked nice, but it didn't seem like it was worth wasting an evening to waiting to go in! Portland has lots of great bars, I would have rather spent my time elsewhere.

My husband is a huge scotch drinker so I thought this would be a great place to visit while in Portland. It was. He enjoyed all the scotches he tried. The service was top notch. The room was large, open, dark, kind of loud, with different seating options, and a lot of bottles of alcohol. :) We ordered the cheese board to accompany our drinks. Good choice - small, flavorful, and complimented drinks nicely. If you are looking for a different experience and have a whiskey, scotch, bourbon drinker in the group I recommend this place. We did pay for Hall Passes ~ not sure if we needed them or not but wanted to ensure we would get in. You seem to get a little better seating option with Hall Passes.

It is rare to find a spot that can craft cocktails or have the selection of fine whiskey's that Multnomah can offer. The decor is rich, warm and comfortable and allows for quite conversation while enjoying some incredible liquids. The service is un-rushed and attentive and all the staff is quick to provide a suggestion or guidance if you so require. Watching the staff grab a whiskey off the extensive all of whiskey or carefully prepare your cocktails adds to the experience. This place is extremely popular, if you want to go, make sure you arrive either at an off-peak time or call to see about a reservation. Typically you have to be a member to make a reservation, but they do offer a 'Hall Pass' which allows you to make a reservation. This is fantastic if you are just visiting as you can make the reservation 48 hours before you arrive. This allows you to avoid standing in a long line hoping for a table or ending up missing out. In my opinion, this is one of those spots in Portland that can't be missed.

Our whole experience was amazing! The waiter and bartender were wonderfully helpful and easy to talk to.

was originally told that the wait would be 2 and a half hours. So we got a small table downstairs. It was super busy, so it took a while for us to get our drinks, like 30 minutes or so. By the time we got our drinks, we were pleasantly surprised that they said our seat is ready upstairs. Upstairs, the atmosphere was relaxed and communal. I enjoyed it, and our server was great. But for some reason one of the other servers came over and asked us if had reservations. He accused us of walking straight up the stairs without checking in downstairs first. He asked for my name and I told him to please check downstairs with reservations. I felt he was very rude, he should have talked to our server first, or with reservations first before accusing us. He didn't even really apologize when coming back from reservations. He just said, "yeah you guys are okay". Other than that little incident the service was great.

What an amazing spot! The library has an exclusive, unique feel to it. Not for your common Joe. The expansive selection of liquor is complimented with some unique food pairings. You can't go wrong here. Try some local whiskey, but also give some rare stuff a shot. You've probably not heard of most of the options, so give it a shot.

Admittedly I'm not a whiskey drinker but I had heard how cool this place was. On a quick weekend trip, I forced a friend to check it out with me. As it was a Saturday and we had no reservation, we couldn't get seating in the library. However ,they let us take a peak. WOW. What a room. It's gorgeous. The room alone is enough to make me go back next time i'm in town. The downstairs room is open seating so we got seats at the bar. The cocktail menu is different and unique. The bartenders are young, cute and hipster. It's like a taste of Brooklyn in Portland except Portland does it way better.

What a wonderful looking place. And the drink selection is terrific. Since the upstairs bar was full, we decided to have our drinks downstairs. Nearly 30 minutes went by and we still hadn't been served. Four people who came in after us were served, and we had nothing. The place wasn't full. Two people behind the bar were washing glasses, etc. All we wanted was scotch on the rocks. Is that so hard in a whisky bar with a dozen people?

Must go spot for any Whiskey/Liquor lover. It is an amazing experience. Although it takes a long wait to get in but well worth it. The liquor is great but so is the grilled Octopus.

We had dinner with a group of 10 in the Whiskey Library. Amazing people there with great service. We were lucky to get a table for dinner but heard about the rule that you need to be member to dine normally. Strange thing that I would probably never do. The drinks were perfect. We had the steak for dinner but typically for the US "medium-rare" is a European "medium". So if you like it a bit less cooked, go for "rare" right away. Fun experience, I would definitely come back - without a membership.

This place is remarkable with a HUGE! selection of whiskeys from around the world. Place is always busy so reservations or arrive early is recommended. Friendly knowledgeable staff add to the enjoyment of the visit. Also has the GreenRoom downstairs where you can grab a bite and eat either while waiting or instead of.

What an amazing place. The list is long as is the wait, but super worth it. Make sure you take your checkbook with you, this place can run high even for just one drink, but well worth it. Very professional employees and classy joint. We went in dressed for play but still didn't feel out of place. I recommend dressing up a bit more, but they didn't seem to judge. It was an amazing experience and we will be back.

We stumbled upon the whiskey library during a recent trip to Portland. Both my husband and myself were tickled with the gorgeous decor, prompt and knowledgeble servers and the fantastic selection of whiskey, bourbon and scotch. We wish we had more time and will most definitely return!

Great atmosphere, like being in the 1920's. knowledgeable staff. Worth the wait if you have the time

Favorite stop in Portland. I would recommend getting there early to avoid a long wait. They do have a Green Room that serves excellent cocktails so no worries if you do have to wait. The library is very impressive and more importantly the cocktails are great. This is a must stop during a visit to Portland.

So fancy. We walked in after a big day of hiking and breweries in columbia gorge area - a little dirty and in hiking boots. They were very accommodating and we got in without any waiting time. The place is really fancy with a beautiful bar area, complete with ladders and small private tasting room(s). We tried a couple scotches and wines - they were all amazing. They had some very pricey scotches as well - for those who'd like to venture. Limited wine selection, since it's not really a wine place. But the ones they have are good ones. I'd like to go back sometime - with more time and in a more appropriate attire!

Multnomah Whiskey Library was recommended by a friend and we were glad we tried it. It was very crowded and we couldn't be seated at the library floor, but we got a table at the Green Room which was fine for a few drinks and small dishes. We went up to take a look and the library room was impressive! For whiskey lovers it is a feast for the eyes! Bottles and bottles of whiskey adorn the walls and it was amazing! We enjoyed our drinks and small dishes and next time we will make sure to make reservation. Highly recommended!

This is an experience. It is a bit like a speakeasy. You check-in downstairs and then you go up to a nondescript door and enter a sanctuary for whisky drinkers. Really they have all sorts of hard liquors but specialize in the whiskey and scotch. The bartenders are knowledgable and very helpful. Don't be intimated ask for "directions" and you may just try something really great. You can ask them for suggestions under a certain amount of money to keep within your budget. It can get expensive there quick. The presentation is amazing and the atmosphere is spectacular. Make sure you go in when you are in PDX!!

Wholly whiskey! This place is so cool, the staff are super knowledgeable and will help guide you. This is a perfect place to take a whiskey lover. Would definetly come back again.
A Must for Whisk{e}y Lovers
We lined up at 3:45 on a Saturday and were seated at the bar upstairs shortly after 4. Not sure why some people were ushered upstairs and others left waiting downstairs--we were the chosen ones! Left whisk{e}y suggestions up to the bartender. Was fun watching them get the whisk{e}y using the library ladders and then mixing the drinks. I must say, we have had better drinks (one mixed and one bourbon neat) but did not want to try for a second chance at the prices. Loved the experience. A bit pretentious, yes. But no regrets. Definitely worth a visit.
