Excellent neighborhood choice

By ericAtlanta |

When we are looking for a nice casual meal with good service, Murphy's is our first choice. We've been going there for 15 years and the high quality service, good food, and reasonable prices keep us coming back. Our most recent visit was with a group from work that included guests from out of town. We were there for an early dinner on a week day - right after work. Murphy's is current but not too trendy. Everything reflects a casual, trendy restaurant that never pretends to be anything but a local restaurant with good food and service. It's honest, authentic, always busy. As usual, service was great, the food was excellent, and we enjoyed several bottles of wine. We even stayed for dessert. We started with an array of appetizers. The favorites were the calmari and the bruscetta, but they cheese plate was also quite good. The favorite entrees were the pot roast, the roast chicken, and the meatloaf. Everyone raved about these dishes. A couple of people had a Tuesday fish special entree and it was okay but not remarkable. Normally the trout is a better choice. We had several desserts - and they were all great. Overall the meal was very comfortable with great service throughout. The manager checked in several times during the evening. The server was always attentive and other servers pitched in without asking. Prices were quite reasonable - typically 18-24 for most entrees. There is an excellent wine selection. This is a neighborhood restaurant worth seeking out. The neighborhood is nice with lots of interesting shops and the restaurant delivers.

A great neighborhood place

Food is fantastic as well as the service. You can't for wrong with anything you eat there. After dinner you can stroll Virginia Highland and enjoy what this city has to offer

Another wonderful experience at Murphy’s!

Delicious food and great service! As I was enjoying my meal, it came to me that I had been coming to Murphy’s several times a year for almost 35 years in current and former location!

Great Saturday Brunch

By Emelda L |

We met friends from Atlanta who frequent this restaurant for brunch. The main course omelettes, cheese grits and fresh baked biscuits, muffins and rolls are wonderful. The wait was 20 minutes, but worth it!

Wonderful atmosphere, need more attention to details

By M Richard M |

Entertained, at lunch, a guest from Shepherd Center. Great service, I ordered the special Salmon BLT. My meal came and when I opened up the sandwich, only a half of it had salmon. I called host and asked to have the other piece of salmon, he was polite, but still I never got my fish. I asked for extra dressing for my wife's ceasar salad, never came. Had to ask three times for a water refill. Well everything I have heard about this place never came to meet my expectations. As I left, the host said he would have the manager call me, that was almost a week ago. Too much relying on reputation, not enough detail.

The place to go in Virginia Highland

By Flavio K |

Virginia Highland is a place to know when you visit this neighborhood. Murphy´s is a nice place, with a huge adega where we found out a spanish wine that we enjoyed a lot! The Calamari for Appetizer was great and Parmezan Chicken with French Fries delicious. A place that worth going!

Great Food and Service

By Ade O |

Very welcoming and accommodating. The food is tasty, portion size and price are great too. Will definitely visit again.

The small plates- amazing!

By lynn |

Our son made reservations here- the wine selection was wonderful. We selected a Piedmont favorite for wine and followed with a selection of small plates. The beet salad, artichokes, crab cakes and calamari was just wonderful! A wonderful location for our family.

Excellent dinner

By taylorjg73 |

Didn't have a reservation but they took us in anyway. The service was great, very friendly and even offered some history of the restaurant. Hubby had the salmon, kids had the brisket and I had the chicken. It was all great. We will be back if we are in the area.

So very best

By Åsa Th |

I was here in the early 80’th eating brownies and drinking coffee with my friends. Now back in Atlanta I found Murphy’s still in business so I brought my family here for me to be nostalgic. We ate both starters and main courses and were all very satisfied. So good and well cooked. The service was excellent. No fancy clothing necessary.

Still great food

Old favorite in Virginia Highlands, food was great for lunch, service friendly and efficient but place feels old and tired ... time for a make over..l which it really deserves !

Best food all weekend!

By mdaby3 |

We had arranged for a large party of 18, so we had a separate room, towards the back (it was perfect for our needs). They gave us 2 servers and that was good. Started with appetizers of mussels, calamari, and artichokes. All were good, but the artichokes really shined! I ordered the beer braised brisket (comes with horseradish mashed potatoes and green beans). It was easily the best dish any of us ordered. I tasted the baked chicken (very good, tarragon flavor, would definitely order again), trout (beautiful presentation, OK flavor) and salmon (surprisingly boring, but still tasty). We had various desserts that were all outstanding (the key lime pie was excellent!).

Delicious, well-kept food and great wine selection

By DunjaK |

Delicious, well-prepared food and a great wine selection: When we visited a friend in Atlanta, we ate here twice. The service is very friendly and attentive. The dishes are imaginative, fresh and very tasty. The wine selection and the quality of the wines is great. You sit in a cozy atmosphere inside or on the terrace and the price-performance ratio is absolutely fine. Everything is recommended!!!

Always Consistently Solid!

By ah64fish |

Murphy’s is a VaHi staple, and always delivers quality food and friendly service. They’re adhering to all Covid-19 protocols. This time, we both had seasonal menu items. The gazpacho with lobster and chili oil was amazing. My wife did the lobster roll, which was perfect and filled with a ton of meat. I went for the seafood stew...awesome! We had the peach gallette for dessert, and it did not disappoint. It’s definitely enough for 2.

Wonderful

We had a wonderful experience with our food and server. Also, Paymon was amazing and had great wine sugggestions

Best brunch

The brunch is amazing! I loved it! The food was very tasty and the service was nice. The environment is also very beautiful.

Great brunch spot

By Brock H |

We were extremely impressed by this restaurant for Saturday brunch. Can’t go wrong with any food item. Shrimp and grits is a must try. Great Bloody Mary and mimosa selection. After brunch, there are many local shopping stores within walking distance that are enjoyable.

Best Place for Brunch in Atlanta

By Karla O |

I have tried many restaurants in Atlanta for brunch and Murphy's is by far my favorite. Please try the Crab Benedict or the Parmesan Crusted Chicken! Both are amazing. If you are craving for something sweet. You should try the pound cake with fresh berries and vanilla ice cream. Yummy!

Brunch

By Mela R |

Visited this place for the first time last Sunday for Brunch. Atmosphere was fantastic, so were the mimosa's! I had the artichokes as an app and the fried green tomato sandwich as my entree. The food was great but the service was very slow. Parking is an issue here so be prepared.

Birthday dinner

By Lauren K |

We attended a birthday dinner there last week and enjoyed the food and service. I had the chicken and soup of the day. Both were very good. The chicken is served on mashed potatoes and topped with asparagus. Very good.

WOW, What an Amazing Place

By TravelingSoul007 |

Met some friends at Murphy's Restaurant in Virginia Highlands recently and was blown away by the quality of food. Consider myself somewhat of a foodie and have to say that I was impressed. We started with the grilled artichokes and steamed mussels, which were prepared perfectly and flavorful. We ordered the Guinness Braised Brisket, Springer Mountain Chicken, the Trout and the Grilled Salmon. The Brisket was amazing, as was the chicken and the Salmon. The Trout was tender with a delightful sage browned butter sauce. The apple bread pudding and sweet potato creme boulle toped off the night. Can't say I've had a better meal in quite awhile! Wholeheartedly recommend this place for any occasion!

Food is Exceptional!!

By DS |

this was my first time and definitely exceeded my expectation! Great food, very clean and above all Chandler (our server) did outstanding job. my whole family enjoyed very much. It was worth driving 45 minutes for a wonderful evening. The only item of my concern was parking- the place does not have enough parking and you may have to park one or two blocks away and walk back.

Wonderful

By ed d |

I recently had the opportunity to visit Murphy’s in Atlanta Georgia USA. 3 important elements (Product, Equipment, Behavior)- The food was good, the service was good, the environment – although busy, was good. All three elements made this a very personal experience.

Lovely consistently high quality food

By dcjtrips |

I had lunch here on Friday and brunch on Sunday. Both times the food was really tasty, with excellent service and a busy but welcoming atmosphere. Every single dish we had was of the same standard - waffle with fruit, eggs mulligan, soup & sandwich & salad.....all delicious.

Good food and service

By Reviewer 4 |

We waited approximately 15 minutes for a table on Sunday morning. Well worth it. Delicious biscuit and perfectly cooked eggs. Outstanding coffee. Attentive service. Our area was noisy. About $12pp. Will eat here again.

Monday dinner

By Barneyq101 |

Very good meal. I had the chicken special. Good service. Great wine list , even better with 50% off on a Monday night. Will go again.

Nice restaurant, ok service.

By hippiefrog |

My husband and I had been to this restaurant before many years ago, and decided to try it again to celebrate our anniversary. The food was pretty good, and the service was ok, but we would have expected better for the amount of money that we spent. We got a bottle of wine and the server never came by to refill our glasses. We did it ourselves, which was fine, but again, for the amount of money we spent... Maybe our server was just having an off night. The food was good but not great, so I'm not sure if we will come back again.

Great birthday celebration

By StevenHScher |

We celebrated my birthday with some friends. I started with the fried calamari ($13.50). It was delicious. I had the Georgia shrimp ($24), it came with pasta. It was in a light white garlic sauce. We shared the bread pudding ($8). It was just good, not great. They served me a complimentary mini roll house cookie dessert, it was excellent. Our server Ganby was excellent.

Hits and Misses

By angela4819 |

The outdoor seating area was very nice...there was not much to see but it was nice to eat al fresco on a pretty evening. The hits of the evening : the very good Manhattan cocktail and the perfectly done Calamari appetizer. The server was efficient but not overly friendly, and that is okay.A server does not have to be my best friend. The misses were in the entrees. I had macaroni and cheese as a side, I kept looking for the cheese but it was not to be found. The trout was flaky but lacked flavor. My spouse's brisket entree was good but not over the top. I think if we decide to visit this establishment again we will stick to cocktails and appetizers, sit outside and enjoy the fresh air.

Disappointed in late dinner service

By AI A |

So what ever happened to treating your guests like they matter and will be well taken care of - no hassle. Well tonight was s bust as the server was not attentive and became unpleasant. We realize that we obviously cut into her clocking out plans with out 10 pm reservation. She either forgot about us as we got assistance from her peers . My husband and I really needed a relaxed , pleasant, and cheerful evening. We did not receive it and I'm disappointed. I have been a customer since 1995. So you see I'm totally unbiased. As a matter of fact, I was here for a birthday lunch we my girlfriends Monday. I introduced each one of them to Murphys. Monica began with super energy and became deflated near the end, because she was checked for bringing the check before the dessert menu. Murphys - what is really happening with your quality of service? I suppose we must give you a break .

Return visit

By mlm30 |

We last visited this great restaurant a couple of years ago when we were on holiday in Atlanta. This week we made a return visit and it was just as good as ever. Great atmosphere and very friendly, helpful staff.

Food is Never Disappointing!!!!

By gixxerryda |

Once again we stop by for nothing but enjoyment. If you haven't been here before this is definitely a must-try. Put it on your list and set the date. Dress code is casual and the atmosphere is the same. The entrance/waiting area isn't very big so parties of 6 or more can crowd the door easily. Luckily the staff is very good at seating parties quickly. On this visit we sat inside which we enjoyed. We skipped the appetizers this time and went straight for the entrees. My wife ordered the peppered gulf shrimp which she enjoyed immensely. For those on the Keto diet, you can swap out the coconut rice for spinach or something else which still makes the meal just as good. I went for the Guinness braised brisket which was really really really good. Believe me, I'm not getting any perks for writing this, just telling you my honest opinion. The brisket melts in your mouth and is served on a bed of mashed potatoes with green beans. This meal will not let you down. For dessert we indulged in creme brûlée. Really really good. No complaints about the service as well. The waiter was very attentive to us and our food came out promptly. We can't wait to go back for another visit.

one great lunch/one horrible dinner

By ALFRED N |

we went to murphy's for lunch on friday and dinner on saturday. really, really good lunch. waldorf salad and parm chicken, service by candice... she was superb, efficient and shes cute as well, dinner was a bloody disaster. i wont mention his name, but we sat at 6.30, he brought water then he forgot us for 25 min. when he did show up, he was busy at another table looking at photos of a dog on the woman's phone,, for a good 5 min. we asked for a substitute server. new gal was friendly, but the guy showed up again when the food arrived. great,, asking about the food is good.. ONCE,, not 5 times and telling us about his plan to date the pastry chef ,, but shes gay as we were told, also, he will be great with kids because he has a 6 year old sister and knows how to wipe her.. "front to back" .. are you serious...indeed it happened. 3/4 of the way through dinner, he brought us the dessert menu. i said we are still eating. he said we should look anyway. i said no. as he was clearing, he asked about dessert,, i said we would look.. 1 min later he asked about dessert,, 3 times.. he was either tired,, said he came in 12 hours earlier or high. not a fun night.

Normally Excellent, But

By 87vette |

We have Dine here a 100 times and always excellent, with excellent staff, only problem is parking and that is to be expected in Virginia-Highlands area. This time was different. We got waited on immediately and order was taken and delivered promptly, we saw waiters again when requesting bill. But big problem was, chicken sandwich was terrible, no dressing on salad, when you don't see staff it is hard to get corrected. We explained sandwich was not good, offered another a little late everyone else was done. This meal should have been comp. Will not eat here again, there goes one of our favorite restaurants

If you don’t mind waiting an hour for your meal…

By YoungOpa |

We arrived on a busy Saturday for brunch. We were seated within 15 minutes of our reservation time. Then the waiting began another 15 minutes for a waiter to say hello. Another 20 minutes before he brought the drink order. And we waited an hour for our meal to finally arrive. There were six of us and everyone’s plate looked quite appetizing. Again the service was lacking, no one refilled our water glasses or our bread basket. Good food, pity about the service.

Great Restaurant with exceptional customer service

By 284Jean |

My family really enjoyed this nice restaurant with excellent customer service. The food is delicious; the drinks are awesome; and above all, staff members are always helpful, respectful and with smiles. My family and I go there every time we’re in town. Kudos to Tia Clark, Aaron McKee and Ricky!

Birthday Brunch with a punch

By Bobbye R |

We celebrated a late brunch at the restaurant last Saturday. Murphy's as usual was busting with people enjoying breakfast brunch. I was there a year ago picking up some wine for my daughters birthday. This Saturday it was a little confusion with the hostess and we were sitted at the wine bar with no mimosa in hand. We were a little disappointed in the left hand not knowing the right thing to do. When were were sitted the manager came to our table (Shaina Ham) and apologized for the confusion. Nothing was going to deter the optimum of the day and it was the birthday brunch. We had a chacuterie tray, shrimp and grits, turkey club with avacodo, hamburger, waffles and artichokes. Everything was great even the presidential mimosa. I must again thank Shaina Ham the manager who knows how to make it right.

Local Neighood Spot

By mdnewman1 |

We went with an old friend ,on the recommendation on folks who used to live in the area ,they said it was a local place with good food .They were right on! ,I had the house Hamburger ,which was terrific and my friends had the Brisket which they both raved about. Our only small complaint was the food came so quickly after we ordered ,we wanted more time to talk and catch up.

Nice breakfast/ brunch

By Dennis B |

We were fortunate to be seated outside on a nice day; very pleasant. It allows you to enjoy the street vibe in Virginia Highlands area. The menu has ample selections of traditional breakfast items. Everything we ordered was good. They fresh bake breads, biscuits and muffins. They have good fresh coffee and offer a full bar for blood Mary and mimosas. The attentive service was quite good.

Stopped in after graduation...

By Jmekins08 |

They quickly accommodated our large party! The food was very, very good as was the service. Definitely get dessert!

No wonder it wasn’t crowded!

By Zoofreak12 |

Getting a table on a Friday should have been a sign the food had gone downhill. I ordered a cup of soup, chicken sandwich, and a salad. The soup was tasty but only warm. The salad had little to no tasteless dressing and the sandwich inedible. The only time the waitress came by was after my first bite of lukewarm soup at which time I told her everything was ok. As she collected our plates I told her about my food as she didn’t ask even though it was very clear I hadn’t eaten. Her only remark was she’d pass it along to the chef. She didn’t take anything off the bill.

Fantastic Dinner!

By Ree d |

Everything was great! We had the artichokes and soup for app. Brisket and steak for entree. If you like brisket theirs is a MUST TRY. The steak was complimented perfectly by the chimichurri. Our server was great as well. Will definitely be back to try the brunch!

A Disappointment

By Mary G |

I had lunch here with a friend on a Thursday. I had not been here in many years, but it used to be a favorite. My friend is new to Atlanta and I hoped that she would enjoy it. She ordered the mango chicken salad and I had a hamburger cooked medium. She said that her salad needed more dressing and the waiter brought some as requested. The greens in the salad were very wet and some were wilted. The chicken seemed to be coated in pesto or something else green. At first she took the chicken for a Brussel sprout! This salad was a little weird and not very good, a disappointment. My burger was dry and over cooked. The menu described an avocado mayonnaise coming on the burger. This had no taste and was absolutely unnecessary. The fries that came with it were pale and tasteless, probably frozen. I felt so disappointed in this meal. We had ordered very basic items that any restaurant should do well. I came with high expectations based on Murphy's past reputation. Don't know how to explain the poor quality. Maybe new owners?

Good food. Farm to table

By A R |

I'm not that into farm-to-table but for those of you that are, this is the place for you! The food was delicious! We had the calamari appetizer - it was quite tasty. I had the brisket that was sooooo tender and flavorful! Our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly.

DISAPPOINTED

By Angela P |

Fish was gel RAW , had to send back , service terrible - had nice outdoor patio w no heaters that worked on a 50 degree night , like really? Our waiter said they ran out of propane tanks for 5 heaters, like how do you do this? A manger could have better prepared and gone to a GAS STATION or hardware store and filled up the tanks when you knew the weather was going to be COLD !! WIl not be back here . very $$ for food and horrible service and RAW fish entree of 32.00 ! No thanks, never again !! NEXT...

Very nice ambiance and food

By sarah b |

Went to Murphy’s for a business dinner, with reservation, it took the hostess some time to find ours and allocate a table (maybe she had just started), but overall good experience. Nice ambiance, good food and wine. Down note: quite overpriced

Brilliant galette and more

By Rorga |

The Artichoke appetizer is tasty but messy. The calamari is delicious and the apple cider mignonette is a delightful surprise. Trout dish is good, but unusual. There are raisins in it. Unexpected sweetness. Brilliant fig and cherry galette with a vanilla cream!!!! Paris Brest Eclair is also a delight. Filled with a lovely marscapone cream, and a caramel and vanilla (?) sauce to dip. Excellent.

Not what it used to be...

By Michael F |

I won't be back. I hesitated even writing this as Murphy's has been a family favorite for years. That said, my first bad experience was last October. In a party of 6, one of the entrees was ICE cold, a steak was ridiculously over cooked and one entree was served with a side of cold, crunchy potatoes. As we walked out, a host (possibly a manager) asked how our night was, to which I replied, "Not your best effort." He said, "Yes, I know." No apology. No promise to do better next time. Fine, I wrote it off as having a bad night. Recently, a friend suggested we meet there for dinner. Service was a bit slow, but it was a Saturday night and we were catching up anyway. After a glass of wine or two, we were served dry, over cooked fish and little rubber hockey pucks that resembled scallops. I thought maybe I was jaded due to my prior bad experience, but half way through the meal my friend asked how the scallops were because the fish was over cooked. Fool me twice, shame on me. I won't be back.

Go Early!

By Pimentochez |

By sharing your experiences, you're helping travelers make better choices and plan their dream trips. Thank you! Such a treat! This place gets really busy at night so go early. Second time to eat here and did not disappoint. Had the 12oz steak and the portions are big. Chocolate cake was out of this world. Prices are high but ok for occasion.

Always delightful, quality food, fine wine, comfortable atmosphere inside or covered patio.

By arockefellerview |

Consistently delicious dishes, salads and incredible desserts in super popular Virginia Highlands neighborhood of Atlanta. Attentive, pleasant staff serve it up in a cozy warm atmosphere of brick, and multiple rooms. Great for celebrating friends or discussing business. Extensive wines offered or full bar. The Spinach Meatloaf with fresh mash potatoes, asparagus and Grilled Chicken Ceasar Salad were excellent. Portions are hearty. SAVE! SAVE! SAVE,room for an incredible Master Pastry Chef created dessert! The Bonzo is my vice: a scrumptious brownie, layered in dreamy creamy cheesecake, smooth velvety chocolate mousse, crowned with fresh whip cream and chocolate shaved jewels. (Available whole @ $38 USD for take-away too!) Large parking lot & street parking. Moderately priced. Business casual attire makes it classy without pretension. Usually busy, with a brief wait list evenings & weekends.

Best bar food in Atlanta

By Sid Maxwell |

I love grabbing brunch or lunch or even dinner occasionally at the bar, especially when I am in a rush. They serve the full restaurant menu and the service is friendly and very quick. The specials are usually interesting and creative. My standby favorite is the meatloaf which they do really well. Last week I had brunch and a local famous chef who I won't mention by name was sitting on the next stool enjoying himself. You know its good when one of Atlanta's top chefs is making this stop.

Great Sunday Brunch

By Johnny C |

Great atmosphere. Great drinks. Pricey brunch food ($6.50 for three slices of bacon) but worth the experience.

Wonderful Brunch!

By Gwendolyn M |

I've been here several times for brunch, and each visit was thoroughly enjoyable. The food, and the service are top notch. It is my go too place to take guests. Now, I'm looking forward to going for dinner.

A Great Place to Eat in Virginia Highlands

By ATLBUBBLES |

This restaurant is a staple in the neighborhood. Good variety menu. You may have to park on the streets around the area if you are not lucky enough to retrieve one of the spaces near or at the actual site. I have eaten there for years.

Five Stars

By Sharon M |

I've been going to Murphy's for well over 10 years. Wine tasting are second to none, food is locally sourced and delish, and the desserts are divine!

Delicious Food in a Happenin' Spot

By Toni K |

We went to this restaurant for a late supper (about 9pm) on a Saturday night in November. We did not have reservations and had to wait about 20 minutes for a table which was reasonable for a Saturday night crowd. The space was inviting with lots of candle lighting and ambiance. The host, the bartender and the waitresses were all very accommodating and polite. Top notch staff - especially the bar tender at the wine portico. The food was very full of flavor, and we enjoyed every bit of it. In fact, I wanted to keep on eating way after I was at the full point. We had the Caesar salad, three cheese flatbread, truffle macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, hamburger & fries and the dessert trio. We had to doggie bag a lot of it, but it was still good as leftovers the next day! We also had a sangria and Riesling wine at the bar. (BTW, if you're into white wine - get the Riesling! The best! $12 a glass, $50 a bottle.) The food is great quality. The price is a little steep for our budget, but it seems to be the norm range for good dining in Atlanta. The only parking directly at the restaurant is valet, so we drove down the street to a $6 lot. We only had to walk about a block and half to the restaurant. Murphy's is located in a hip place that seems to be thriving with businesses and eateries. I would certainly visit this area and this restaurant again. (Our parking attendant told us to try the meatloaf, but we didn't since we're vegetarians. Maybe a helpful suggestion for you meat-eaters, though?)

Good food but poor service

By Naddia's Favorites |

I enjoyed the food for sure but the service was not great, our main came out too early, we had not even finished our appetizers and our main was already there, waiter not that professional, forgot which wine I ordered, we asked for a spoon he kept forgetting, had to ask 3 times, never came to check if we needed anything else, like more water or so. Also the menu does not have that many choices, especially the appetizers, could do with a bit more selection but I have to say that my main was very good. Did not like having to sit in the veranda, even if closed and with heating for the winter but still, when we make a reservation we should be told that it is not in the main restaurant but in the veranda.

St Patrick's 2019

By T C |

For this our first visit we tried the entire St Pat's menu. The best was probably the Cod Haddie soup, a creamy, rich bisq-ish. We also had the Corned Beef with Potatoes and Leeks, a lamb stew over rigatoni, and a salmon over Gnocchi. Was the blandness attributable to a culinary trend in minimalism in seasoning? Dunno, but dont get it sideways, I've had excellent Corned beef, for example, that was steeped for days and impressed with cloves, etc, that was a marvel. This tasted OK and had the rectangular look of something tinned. The service was average. The atmosphere was beautiful, home-continental with nice appointments and a top rate Irish trio of guitar, accordion, and flute. Only the atmosphere saved this from a lower rating, pretty disappointing.

Scrumptious food and excellent service.

By LaBusti |

First time visiting Murphy's and hoping there will be more. My brisket sandwich was delicious along with the crispy french fries. I don't remember tasting a beef sandwich that good ever before. The fries were the perfect match even if I regret the calories later. Charleston was our server-in-training and did a great job tending to our needs. I brought home an oatmeal cookie from the jar to go with my afternoon cortadito (macchiato) It was the best oatmeal cookie I've ever tasted. I don't live in Atlanta, but I hope to make it a regular spot for when visiting. Thank you!

Great neighborhood brunch

By Lisa S |

Super consistent, always great food and service, there is a reason they have been in the neighborhood for so many years.

You will need reservations

By Leslie B |

When I first came to Atlanta, everybody said, "you have GOT to go to Murphy's." Now I am the one telling newcomers the same thing. Very popular restaurant for obvious reasons - great food, great location, impressive wine selection, consistency. Popular place for weekend brunch. They also have valet, which is essential in the Virginia-Highlands area.

Don't be fooled

By sam69-73 |

It is easy to think Murphy's is a Guinness and corned beef an cabbage spot from the street it isn't. No slight meant but this place has a much broader offering. A very respectable wine list and a menu laden with local ingredients in a comfortable setting is what you'll enjoy. Portions are good sized and sides are easily enough to share. Sandwiches are packed as well as other entrees. Set at the bar or in good weather enjoy the covered area. A tip--if you search on highland you can find some free or less expensive parking than the metered spaces along the cluster of shops and dining places.

Murphy’s: A Decatur Gem for Every Meal!

By jadams5454 |

Murphy’s is one of those places you just keep coming back to. It’s a local gem in Atlanta Virginia Highlands area with a cozy vibe and consistently delicious food. We’ve been for everything from brunch to dinner, and it never disappoints. For brunch, the smoked salmon omelette and cheesy grits are absolute winners, and the French toast is buttery perfection. Their burrata appetizer is another standout, especially with the unique rhubarb twist. And don’t forget to try the espresso martini—it’s excellent. Their dessert game is strong too. We shared a seasonal peach bread with ice cream that was fantastic. Plus, their bakery has some great options to take home if you’ve still got a sweet tooth. Whether you’re in the mood for a relaxed brunch or a nice dinner, Murphy’s has it all. It’s always a good choice!

Great Sunday Brunch

By Claudetteth |

A group of us headed to Murphy's for a mid afternoon lunch / dinner and ended up having brunch. This is a great place to people watch and enjoy great food. We had burgers, a frittata and a shaved chicken and tortilla dish. All great served by a very attentive waiter.

Birthday celebration for my daughter and friends

By lauriemckaplan |

We had a great overall experience with Murphy’s. We had a party of 8, and they were seamless with service. The food was phenomenal...I even convinced meat lovers to try the artichoke! Everyone loved their dishes, ranging from vegetarian to fish to beef! Waiter was attentive and flexible with substitutions. I’ll definitely go back!

Loved!

By Katie M |

We stopped by on a whim for dinner and loved our meal and service! We both had the tortilla soup and brisket, and would highly recommend them. We were seated and out the door within an hour- it was very efficient service. The only con would be valet parking (reasonably priced) is limited, so go early or look for street parking on your way there. We will be back!

Horrible. Spend your money elsewhere.

By SingletonFamily |

From beginning to end, I did not have a good experience. I kinda expect a decent level of food and service at an established restaurant, such as Murphy’s. I wasn’t expecting special, but I didn’t even receive a basic level of service. First, please ask your wait staff to stop addressing the diners as “you guys”. As in “do you guys want more coffee?” I had to keep asking for things repeatedly. Can I have more water? Can I have more coffee? Can I have more milk with that second cup of coffee? Can I please ask again that you bring out that milk that I already requested and still haven’t received? Can you please bring the hot sauce that I asked for and now my food is getting cold because I’m still waiting? When you take a look at the Eggs Virginia Highland photo on the restaurant’s online menu, you see a nice piece of focaccia next to the eggs. And I was looking forward to breaking my poached egg onto that bread. Instead, my focaccia bread, both the top and bottom pieces were absolutely wet, drippy, and soggy. It was nauseating, and I didn’t know where to move it to, ugh. I suspect that the kitchen just threw the wet spinach on the bread. It was not good. As we were leaving, I noticed that the table next to ours immediately received a basket filled with biscuits, muffins, jam, etc. I wondered if that was an item that I should have preordered when I made the reservation. Nope. I learned that every table receives this basket, except us. Every table. I wasn’t planning to say anything, just leave at the end of the meal, but the reception desk asked about our experience. When I noted these items, she called over the manager on duty. Upon hearing my unhappiness, his reply was “I’m sorry”. That’s it. I didn’t feel that I was truly listened to or that my experience was taken seriously. Update: I heard back from Murphy’s management through the review I placed on OpenTable. It was an apology, “we’ll do better, give us a second chance, please come back”. Here’s an idea: when I was standing in front of you at the restaurant, and I asked you about why I never received a bread basket and complained about the food and the service, you could have paired that apology with making things right for me. You could have said “oh we’re sorry that you didn’t get a bread basket. Let’s make this right by packing up one for you now so you can take it home to enjoy”. Why on earth would I accept an apology about a horrible experience that I paid for and then return for more of the same? I’m really shaking my head about why you didn’t take the opportunity to at least give me an apology and pack me up a bread basket that was included in the meal that I paid for? Breakfast for two, $80 including tip, no alcoholic beverages, for this? No thank you. And so now I’m never returning, nor will I recommend this restaurant to others.

Fantastic Brunch

By eskdunning |

This was our first visit to Murphy's Restaurant, based on good reviews and the ability to make an Open Table reservation for Saturday brunch. Expectations were high because our restaurant choices the day before had been regrettable and I was hoping to redeem our culinary experience in Atlanta. In short, we were not disappointed. We received a warm welcome and were seated immediately in a cozy quiet back room. Service was extremely friendly and our server was very knowledgeable of the menu. Lots of great options, but my husband ordered the shrimp and grits and I ordered the Eggs T. Murphy (basically Eggs Benedict). This was the best English muffin I've ever had - so tender and soft! Portion size was very generous. We also enjoyed our cafe lattes and the complimentary muffins and biscuits. Wonderful brunch start to finish. This will be a go-to for us on future visits to Atlanta.

Stay away from Murphy's if you don't want to get ripped off

By Jill P |

We had great service and good food but the experience was marred when I was charged a fee for using a credit card. It ruined the whole experience for me and my guests and we won't be back. Next time when I want a good lunch I'll go to Petite Violette where they are more gracious to the customer and don't charge a credit card fee. Shame on them.

Super good food

By Travler70 |

Went for dinner had steak and fries. Perfection brought some home for steak and eggs next morning. Service was spot on super fast. Dinners were all (4) excellent

Incredible Lunch!!

By Jamie Giddens Mabrouk |

My friend and I originally wanted brunch but we were sad to find out they only offer brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Guess that means we will just have to come back! But we decided to give it a shot anyway and I am so glad we did! For the appetizer, we got the mussels ($12) and split them and they were AMAZING. Perfect portion for two people and the broth WAS SO GOOD!!! We literally sipped it with the spoon when we ran out of garlic bread to dip into it. We both decided on the special of that day: cod over spinach risotto ($15) which was a great choice. The cod was flaky, hot, and perfect portion size. I had the Murphy's Punch ($11) for a drink which was light and refreshing and it was difficult to only have one. My friend had the lemonade ($4) and she said it was very fresh. We split the key lime pie ($8) for dessert and it was a big enough piece that we both felt satisfied by the end of the meal. I mean we were perfectly full. The service was just as good as the food. From the time we walk in and were seated to the time we left service was on point the whole time. Can't wait to go back and try something new because the entire menu looked great!!

Just a nice place to eat!

By edgelea21 |

In a city with a lot of great places to eat, this place still stands out. We just did my wife’s birthday there. They were great, food was fabulous, and the service is outstanding.

Always Great!

By JLoveMosca |

Wonderful restaurant for all occasions...brunch, lunch and dinner. The food is amazing! It is always busy so make a reservation or plan on waiting. The have a full bar and extensive wine selection. Great place to take anyone.

Love The Restaurant, Food A Bit Disappointing

By CaribbeanTA |

It has been about 3 years since my last visit and as always the service and ambiance are great. However I was a bit disappointed in the menu selections and $4.00 for a cup of tea. I had the meat loaf with spinach which was just okay and definitely not up to my expectations. This will not preclude me from going back again but hopefully the food will be better and better menu selection.

Deliciousness all around!

By Cheryl A |

I had the crab cake with jalapeño hollandaise. It wasn’t hot at all. So don’t be afraid to try it if you don’t like peppery food. The cheese grits on the side were excellent. Our server was kind and pleasant. She wasn’t used to serving people who brought their own wine though. But she knows how to open a bottle of champagne!! She did it with grace and style. It took a minute before she ordered our entrees after having taken the drink order. The mimosas were really good. I tried the mango and the apple ginger. The cinnamon muffins were delicious! Couldn’t get enough of those. Loved the roasted potatoes too. I was a little perturbed by our seating but I was able to speak to the hostess who apologized and took critical feedback well. There were no complaints about any of the food my other guests who had Linda’s omelette, chilaquiles said they too were delicious! So deliciousness all around.

Incredible Foodie Experience You Don't Expect

By TravelingSoul007 |

Went to dinner at Murphys in Virginia Highlands last night and my date and I split two apps, Avocado toast and the shrimp creole that were both good, the shrimp being amazing. I'd go back tomorrow just for the shrimp. Then we had the salmon, which had a perfectly matched cippolini onion and confit tomatoes sauce over swiss chard. Really incredible and cooked to perfection. This is one of those recommendations that I'd say just go there, no matter if you're visiting Atlanta or live anywhere in the ATL area!

Very excellent lunch

By EdRigdon |

This was a birthday treat for my 19 year old, lunch t a place we have really enjoyed. Our last visit was weekend brunch. The regular lunch menu is more grown-up, but so is he. The worst part about Murphy's is parking--go a little early, as we did. Once you are past that, it's fabulous. Service is both friendly and efficient / professional. Between a Murphy's burger, a salmon steak, the seared tuna salad, and the daily special, blackened chicken over pasta, mushrooms and root vegetables with something like an alfredo souce, we were all very happy. But since it was a party, we all had desserts, which are always awesome at Murphy's. Their rooms can be noisy--it's a casual atmosphere, and kid-friendly. Hard to beat Murphy's for a special lunch.

Sunday Brunch at Murphy’s

By thehovites |

I was delighted to share Murphy’s with two friends who were in town for a convention. The food. Was absolutely delicious. Our server Ana, I believe her name is, was very helpful and attentive.

First time ok

By JoseB |

We visited for brunch today and there were some issues as they said they were implementing a new system and also credit card processing was down. We waited double the time we were quoted and they tried to seat us 2x at a table that wasn't large enough. The got it right when they pulled 2 tables together. The service was slow but don't believe it was the servers fault. We wished they would have told us there were issues/delays prior to sitting. Would try again and hope that they work out the issues with their new system and don't open until they have them worked out.

Service and food with smiles

By isabelarcher |

My husband and I shared the brisket main dish and frankly, it was even better than mine! The kale salad was superb. The place is large but because of the excellent service, you don't "feel" it. We had Jordan as a waitperson, and she was also handling TWO other very large parties. Attentive, smiling, just right. And Savannah at the bar is wonderful. We met her outside the restaurant just before we came inside and chatted with her. At the end of the meal, Jordan brought over a complimentary dessert that Savannah had ordered for us. Thank you again!

Local neighborhood jewel of a restaurant

By Claudette R |

A few years ago, I moved from Atlanta, GA. As a resident of Atlanta, one of my favorite places for Brunch was Murphy's Restaurant. My friends and I use to rush on the weekend to Murphy's for its incredible Brunch. Reservations for lunch and dinner was available daily except brunch during the weekend. There was usually a wait since other people and their friends had the same thoughts. It is a jewel of a restaurant with yummy tasting food. While waiting to be seated, you look at a wide variety of sumptuous tasting baked goods, beautifully decorated, smelling wonderful. I often found myself trying to decide which pastry to eat during brunch and which one to take home. The food on the menu is an interesting variety of comfort foods, which taste divine. I am happy to say, it still has the best food and baked goods. Murphy's also has a wine shop and wine tastings. Two months ago, my friend and I arrived 30 minutes before opening and were behind 10 other eager diners. It has expanded its seating area, since I last visited. They have private dining available. I attended several business luncheons and birthday parties there. The greeters and servers are still friendly and still provide great service. The food is delicious as ever. The brunch, lunch and dinner selections can satisfy any foodie. If you are interested in treating yourself to a great dining experience, check out this restaurant in Virginia Highland district/neighborhood. Bon appetit!

Great food

By Richard R |

My wife and I were in town visiting our daughter. Went here last night for dinner. I had the lobster Cobb salad and my wife had the shrimp. We loved our meal. Also shared yummy desserts. We will definitely be back.

Must be a leadership change and not for the betterment.

By cowbulls |

This was our second recent visit because we wanted to give the place one more chance before writing it off for good. The parking is horrible and valet across the street is the only reasonable option. We gave the attendant $10 for two cars, figuring that a $3 a piece tip was reasonable. Apparently not, as the guy didn't even acknowledge the money and seemed like the thought he got shorted. We went on Mother's Day with a reservation. Our first clue of pending disappointment should have been that it was only half full. We ordered mimosas and a very good cinnamon roll for an appetizer. For our main courses, we had an assortment including Crabs Benedict, hamburger, Slum Mulligan, and a waffle with bacon. None of these were anything special, and no one would order their meal again. As much as I try to support local individual restaurants, we won't be back.

Fantastic Meal

By StevenHScher |

We had a great dinner with friends. We started with the fried calamari. It was crispy & delicious. I had a special, 16 oz. Rib eye steak. It was thin but cooked perfect & very tasty. My wife had the skirt steak salad. It was delicious. Our friends had the Springer mountain chicken & the Salmon steak. All delicious. We shared the trio sampler dessert. It was absolutely amazing. Our server, Candice was probably the best server we have had in a long time. She was so friendly, helpful, efficient, & just so nice. It was excellent service. Great eating experience.

Summer lunch

By HungryinH-town |

Had a very nice lunch here last week. The service was a bit slow but friendly. They served a very good old fashioned. The elotes appetizer was great. The steak salad was excellent as well. Great food in a very relaxed atmosphere.

Great in every way

By Tamara M |

What a great restaurant in such a great location. We are relatively new to the Atlanta area and had heard of the Virginia-Highlands area. We were attending something close to Murphy's and decided to give it a try. We had such a nice visit. The service was fantastic as was the atmosphere. The food was plentiful and amazing too. We will definitely be back, next time we are in the area again.

'Just ok?'

By bulldozerNewJersey |

I suppose all restaurants have their good days and bad, this was our 2nd time dining at Murphy's and it seemed a bit different. Different in the fact the food was just par (Grilled artichokes were tasteless and we asked to remove it from our bill) simple scotch and water $12 ?? and our appetizer Charcuterie & Cheese, I thought was a tad expensive for what was presented, but on the upside the burgers were good. That is just me… Hey but someone else just might love it.. who am I to judge.

Virginia Highlands Gem

By MacAtlantaGa_ |

Murphy's is consistently one of the best dinning experiences in Atlanta. Nestled on the corner in the heart of Virginia Highlands, they have remained a local institution and keep raising the bar. The menu hits the mark being pretty focused, but always enough variety. Our group shared several appetizers including the Peach Caprese salad and the Avocado Toast. I had the Salmon for my entree while others enjoyed the Trout and Meatloaf. The wine list is exceptional, with one of my all time favorite Red's, the Blue Eyed Boy. Service is exceptional from the valet parking team to hostesses and wait staff.

$75 for an all around unpleasant lunch for 2

By lauraschmaura |

I have been going to Murphy's for decades, but today was my last visit. The staff was rude, the food was meh and when I asked to move tables because there was a dead squirrel right outside our window in their landscaping (my daughter saw it and it devastated her squirrel loving, taxidermia phobic self) we were met with a pretty terse "I guess, sorry", and that was it. I didn't complain and kept it very low key, but it definitely ruined the meal and they hardly said a word in our direction about it. The staff genuinely seemed annoyed by our presence - no worries there, you won't have to see us ever again!

Graduation dinner

By Ladycaroler |

Horrible experience!!! Had reservations for 12 ppl for celebration. We were seated in a very crowded area!!! Ordered dinner and staff had to serve through very crowded seating. Server spill HOT broth from my brisket down my back!!!! This could have been prevented if they had not put us in such a horrendous seating Of course they were very sorry!! Ruined my shirt and bra. Had to sit with wet clothing that evening. Also the odor was terrible after a while. Traveled from Pa to attend a special law school graduation. Beware!!!

Great food

By Martin R |

I regret having the murphy's burger because all of my friends got awesome food and I went for a regular burger. Shame on me. The Cucumber mint sipper is soo good, totally recommend it.

Great Celebratory Dinner

By sam c |

Went to Murphy's celebrating multiple occasions - a wedding rehearsal and birthday dinner. The restaurant was very busy and active. Staff was welcoming and attentive. The menu was diverse and exciting. I got a delicious entree of grilled shrimp, preceded by a flatbread and calamari as starters. There was also a nice selection of wines and beers. I believe that most people in our large group were happy with their meals. Considering the size of our group - prices were pretty good. Overall, a very nice way to celebrate some special events. Would happily go back again.

The Best Restaurant!

By 36marsha |

Friends from Alpharetta, Ga who had heard of Murphy’s Restaurant but never eaten there joined me for their Sunday Brunch and they were not disappointed. Every food item ordered was raved about, even the coffee and champagne cocktails! Personally, I love the ambience and the feeling you are in someone’s home sharing a meal with friends. Tom Murphy has made an incredible effort with this crazy time of Covid-19 to ensure his patrons his restaurant is a safe and sanitized environment to enjoy a day or night out. I had heard he installed an elaborate filter system and I noticed how clean and fresh the air quality was. Thank you, Tom! And, before leaving that day, we visited Murphy’s wine shop and talked with the sommelier who was helpful in picking out some wine selections. Can’t leave without wine!!

Very comfortable

By YourLadyMother |

Murphy's is so comfortable and the menu is nice. Sometimes the food is a little disappointing for the price. Not bad, just a little disappointing. But most of the time it's terrific. We've been going off and on for nineteen years. Service is always pleasant.

Excellent food, service and ambiance

By roylaunik |

My husband and I had just arrived in town and wanted a quick lunch before going to get friends from the airport. Our server made sure we got our food quickly, and we were so shocked by how good our food was. I had the brisket and caramelized onions and my husband had the Cesar salad with chicken and avocado toast. We were so happy with our lunch that we brought our friends to Murphy’s for dinner that same evening. Our dinner was also great: mussels, hanger steak, salmon, and the lobster roll. Murphy’s is close to our VRBO and pretty sure we’ll go back before the long w/e is over.

The Worst

By David H |

I've eaten at this establishment before and had a nice experience. But things have gone down hill. An apathetic, slow wait staff, terrible food, and a manager that was completely indifferent. This was my last visit for sure. Don't waste your time when you have the best Italian restaurant in Atlanta, La Tavola, right across the street.

Good food and service

By rcabr |

We have visited Murphy's with family groups for several years. The food and service has had up's and downs but it was up last week. We had a party of 8 which included children. Our server was prompt and efficient. The quality of the food was excellent.

Magnificent Murphy's

Was are first time in Atlanta so they were beyond helpful as to where to make sure we made sure to go an what to see. The food was DELISH ...the drinks FABULOUS an all done while dining outside in beautiful outdoors. Prices average, an neighborhood just so clean an quaint. Definetly a MUST

FABULOUS

By Renee S |

Everything on the menu sounded absolutely divine! The grilled salmon was fantastic! Service was very friendly and fast. Would definitely recommend this for lunch or dinner.

Interesting twists to menu

By BRIAN B |

Nine of us here for dinner and no two orderers were alike. The food was good and plentiful requiring several 'doggie bags'. There seemed to be interesting tastes added where one wouldn't expect it which awoke taste buds all around.

Don’t miss a wonderful experience!

By Stephanie D |

We are long-time patrons of Murphy’s and it is our “go to” restaurant when we have had a rough day or want a special night out. They absolutely never disappoint! The service, atmosphere, and food always far exceed expectations. If you have the chance to have Mia as your server you will not be disappointed - she is as sweet as the toll house pie (our favorite!). Check out this local gem…it’s our favorite! If you’re new to the area it is a must see!

Brunch

By Jbthom63 |

Six of us took my 23 year old for a birthday brunch and it was my first time here. Very little parking, but the valet was only $2 plus a tip and the wait was about 45 minutes at 2pm, which wasn't bad. Our server was very slow, but knowledgeable and cordial met all our needs. The restaurant ambiance was nice and everyone really enjoyed their mimosas and food. I will definitely eat here again!

Sunday Breakfast

By leahdilorenzo |

We have been to Murphy’s at least 20 times in the past few years however, the food and service is going downhill. Today, my 2 year old sons scrambled eggs were dripping with butter and when I told the waitress she didn’t even do anything. I don’t expect new eggs or to comp them however, some acknowledgment would be nice. Feedback is important in order to improve experiences. In addition, our potatoes were cold and we remembered that they were last time as well. I asked for more coffee and had to remind our waitress twice. Sadly, this place only survives on reputation which might be going downhill as well. I don’t think we will give them another chance.

TOTAL DISRESPECT!!!!

By Antoine S |

TOTALLY AND THOUROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED AND OFFENDED! In my 53 years on this earth, I don't ever recall experiencing anything close to my horrible dining experience that we encountered at this despicable place. This may be rather lengthy but worth the read. First and last time dining here!!!!! The food was okay but the service was horrible. We were there with a party of 10ish, celebrating my Aunt's Birthday. We called ahead to reserve a table and was seated promptly upon arrival, our server was very timid, impatient and uninviting, which was fine but a little strange for the hospitality business. We all placed our orders and the food came out relatively quickly, so we all ate and enjoyed the celebration for our Aunt and then things went downhill. After the young server brought the ticket to the table, we asked if it was possible to break that up by the individual / family group and she said no, she could simply split it 4 or 5 equal ways which was no big deal as we worked that part out amongst ourselves via me paying the ticket and everyone else sent me their portions via Cash App. No big deal. So here's where the TOTAL DISRESPECT came in. Would you believe that after spending $297 plus a $39 cash tip, that the manager had the nerve to come to our table and say, guys I need you guys to leave because I need to sit another large group here? This set me back 70 years in time, I was so upset that we were asked to leave a restaurant that we just spent $297+ at for a celebration. What does you accommodating another table have to do with my time in your restaurant? I have dined at some of the most prestigious facilities in the nation and I've never had this to happen. By the way, this request came 5 minutes after we paid. The message I received out of this was, we got your money, now get out. Not a good look Tom Murphy! I left a message for Mr. Murphy at the restaurant today with my telephone number to discuss prior to this post and my other post but no return call. FYI, Murphy's this was very insulting and discriminatory. I think this is news worthy! Please be careful where you spend your hard earned money people!

My Sister In Laws Bday

By Moquahontas |

My husband and children and I went to MURPHY'S today after being turned away from BQE for brunch because it wasn't kid friendly, although the website says no kids after 8 PM. My sis in law had reservations for her bday at BQE 😑. So we headed to MURPHY'S without our sis in law/party and was NOT disappointed. They quickly sat us and the drinks and food began flowing. Midway thru our meal, my sis in law called from BQE and asked if she and her party can join us!! Murphys staff quickly changed our seating and made sure her party was with us. Our waiter SEAN was friendly, efficient, and accommodating. Sean rocked it and my sissy's bday brunch was saved!! GOOD JOB MURPHY'S. Can't wait to come back...

Fuin Restaurant In Trendy Virginia Highlands

By Craig A |

Virginia Highlands is a trendy neighborhood in the Midtown area of East Atlanta. On the Friday night we were there - streets were very crowded, high energy, and we had to resort to valet parking (the lot was across the street from Murphy's). A reservation was a must. The menu is American comfort food and they have an extensive drink, wine, and beer menu. Service was excellent and our server was quite attentive, Everyone in our group was happy with their meal - which, to be honest, was a bit higher priced than I expected...Big City pricing in a "local" place? We understand they also have a great brunch. I'd be happy to return!

Dinner

By Donald B |

excellent food and service. Good variety of food was offered at good value, staff was very helpful and the restaurant was very clean. Great ambiance

Always a favorite!

By cynthiaJAX |

I lived in the Virginia Highlands neighborhood 25 years ago. Murphy’s was a favorite then, and continues to be on the top of my restaurant list when I return to visit Atlanta. I recently had dinner there, and all three in our party thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was delicious, atmosphere is lively and fun and the wait staff were excellent. Highly recommend!

Lackluster food and service

By Atlanta diner |

Murphy's was one of my regular go tos - great mussels, grilled artichokes, burgers, fish. But the food is mediocre at best now- overcooked artichokes soaked in butter, soggy 'flatbreas' and watery cocktails. They've gone downhill. Won't be going back.

Good food and service

By julio6925 |

The food was good and the service was friendly. The section of food was different but everything we had very good taste and the staff was on top of it. I would go back.

Great atmosphere and location!

By Toni W |

I really enjoyed this restaurant and Virginia Highlands in general! The only thing is I wish there were more vegetarian options, but the spaghetti squash was so delicious. We had a reservation prior to coming and our table was ready as soon as we got there. The waitress was so kind and we stayed after dinner for coffee and dessert for about 2 hours! Would definitely recommend for anyone coming to the Atlanta area.

Best Brunch restaurant in the area with excellent customer service!

By 284Jean |

My family and I have become “repeat” customers at this nice restaurant because of several reasons including: variety of menu selection, good location, great brunch on weekend’s, exceptional service from the front desk and the bartenders. We specially enjoy the Saturday or Sunday’s brunch specials served until 4pm; and we don’t miss it when we’re in town, once a month. The staff including Anna V & the team of servers are very professional, friendly, quick, and customer-focused; something you don’t see in some high-rated and popular venues in town. We’ll come back here and we highly recommend this place!

Yummy brunch

By YellowJacket2 |

We went early on a Saturday for brunch--surprisingly empty but we were glad since we had to be out of there fairly quickly. When I called they said it's really crowded late morning. Coffees, waffle and entrees were all delicious, server very helpful and friendly.

Great service and pretty good food.

By JoeJoeVG |

Had dinner here with family. Had excellent service from start to finish. Ordered the charcuterie board as and appetizer. Had the meat and cheese which cost extra. I will say I was slightly disappointed with It especially with how much it cost didn’t find the meat and cheese selection to be what I’ve had at other places with a similar price point. I also wish places would give you a list of suggestions on what to pair on the board, not just Murphy’s, everywhere. I had the braised brisket as my entree, I found the brisket slightly dry almost like pot roast but the sauce and creamy mashed potatoes made up for that and it was a really delicious dish. My wife had the ribeye, only complaint with that is it came out over cooked to her liking but the flavor was unbelievable and the potatoes where really good. For dessert we had the bread pudding and it was outstanding. A perfect way to cap a great meal.

Dinner with co-workers

By Sharon J |

The atmosphere of this restaurant was cozy, scenic, and very inviting. I enjoyed sharing a variety of appetizers and drinking cocktails with my co-workers. The wait staff was excellent as well as the main course.

Great Sunday Brunch

By Martha S |

After a night of birthday celebrating, Murphy's was on our mind for brunch. Our friends who live in Atlanta suggested this old time favorite. I was thrilled to see on the menu some food items you wouldn't have expected. The restuarant was crowded but we had gotten there early enough so our wait wasn't too bad. No resverations at Murphy's. Anyway, I chose the trout which was very flaky just delicious. Our friends had the eggs Benedict. Although crowded service was very good. A definite, will return on our next trip to Atlanta. Just be prepared to look for parking.

VERY LOUD music, not for meeting or intimate conversations

By djharts |

The food was amazing, we had to fight off wait staff for taking silverware, plates too soon. I had to insist on keeping my cutlery clean. Too many new people on same shift.

Wine prices

By Nancy A |

I ordered a very nice Willamette valley Pinot Noir. It was $19, which is a splurge for me, since I can get almost 2 bottles for that same price. The pour was only 4 ounces. I asked anyway just to check. I thought this was pitiful and certainly not standard at most restaurants. And that price would mean the bottle may have been worth $100 and more. I don’t think so. So be carethere, it wasn’t worth it.

Good Food

By Jim_atl |

I attended a wine maker dinner here during the High Museum wine auction week. It was four courses paired with wine from the Schramsberg Winery. We got off to a slow start. We had to wait in a crowded area while they set up the room even though it was after the stated starting time. There was some confusion on where we should sit and the dinner did not start to well after the starting time. On the positive side the food was very good, the servers were friendly and attentive, and the wines were excellent. I enjoyed speaking to people near me who live in the area and enjoy Murphy's very much. I used the valet parking because the area is crowded. Overall it was a good experience after a shaky start.

A Must Dine!

By TravelingSoul007 |

We went into Murphy’s with another couple for dinner recently and the menu offering was diverse and the kind and thoughtful service was first class. The environment was bright and clean, and the restaurant has a warm and comfortable feel. I had the trout, which is a rocking dish and their deserts are also amazing. Murphy’s is a must for those seeking great food, great ambiance and friendly service!

Easter Brunch!

By craig1086 |

Came here for brunch on Easter Sunday with my g/f, and was not disappointed. Make a reservation, as it gets crowded on the weekends. Parking is valet, or self-parking on the curb on the street. We sat at the bar to avoid a 45 minute wait, and it was so worth it. She had the Egg Slum Mulligan, and it was really good with the Rosemary Mule. I had the Blueberry mimosa, and paired it with the Hazelnut-crusted French Toast & eggs Santa Fe. They give you complimentary lemon and mixed fruit muffins to enjoy while you wait for your meals. Those muffins were amazing! The portions are generous here, so the eggs Santa Fe could've been enough on its own, but the french toast was phenomenal(which we shared). For the quality of food, the prices are very reasonable, and your food comes out very quick. We were enjoying our muffins for literally 2-3 minutes before our entrees came out of the kitchen. Their wine collection is surprisingly expansive for a "neighborhood restaurant", and we tried some of the wine, and it was also very enjoyable. I'd recommend this place for brunch, dinner, whatever meal you want to have here. Service was top notch. I'll be back

much room for improvement

By s0uthernbelle16 |

Very disappointed. Service was very slow. Food just average, if that. Clean and pleasant surroundings. Staff was friendly, but not well trained.

Saturday brunch

By Renato A |

My first visit to Murphy's was great. I went with frineds for a brunch in a sunny but cold saturday! The waitress was not so nice at first but she turned to be sweet and pleasant afterwards. I had the Eggs Slum Mulligan. The taste was good but I didn't like the mix of eggs and vegetables with all its juice on the bottom. I also had cafe au lait which was good as well as the french toast!

Great Evening with Friends

By lisamax0707 |

Great little restaurant in a quirky part of town. Food was great! (Starters: grilled artichokes and calamari. Entrees: Maple-glazed salmon, Chilean sea bass, and brisket. Dessert: Bread pudding and key lime pie.) Space between tables was tight, and the parking was a bit of a challenge; but the service was the excellent. We had a 6 p.m. reservation, but there were plenty of tables available at 8 p.m. Will definitely visit again!

Birthday Dinner

By ScoutAdventures |

Ambiance was great, food was amazing & service was excellent. The only reason for a 4 instead of a 5 star is parking. Valet staff tried but parking is very limited & they were sending guests to park down the street.

Tasty lunch

Neighborhood standout with tasty food options. Wide range of selections done right . Nice menu with apps , soup salads , sandwiches or plates. I had a brisket sandwich that was great with a side salad . All our choices were just right . Friendly knowledgeable servers . Great looking place that is pleasant vibe adds to you visit.

Spacious venue, warm welcome, very nice food (I remember a fantastic lobster salad, and saw a great brisket), AMAZING desserts, super service. strongly recommended.

Best celebratory lunch!

By Kathy A |

We went shopping today to say "Yes" to the wedding dress. We went to Murphy's afterward for a celebratory lunch. Todd was gracious and greeted us at the door. He found us a perfect table. Ross was the perfect waiter. He accommodated our request for a fried green tomato appetizer. Who could ask for more? We lunched on basil tomato soup, grilled cheese sandwiches with a fried egg, acorn squash bowl with veggies and a green salad. Perfect lunch for a memorable day. The ambiance of the restaurant is wonderful. We will do it again!

Saturday Brunch

Great brunch after touring Callanwolde! 30 minute wait for a table but so worth it! Every one loved their food!

Exceptional food in a laid back, casual setting

By jenned17 |

Enjoyed brunch before a Georgia Tech game and it was delicious. Friendly, professional staff and a casual, but hip setting in Virginia Highlands neighborhood. I had the scrambled eggs (two, but the portion looked like six!), chicken sausage with a flavorful kick and creamy cheese grits. The buttermilk biscuits and pumpkin/chocolate chip muffins were a hit pre-meal. The mimosa was the perfect compliment to the meal. Others in our group enjoyed omelets, pancakes and French toast. Affordable for the quality and quantity of the food. I'll be back!

Great Local Place

Went to Murphy’s with my husband and son for dinner. They have a nice outdoor dining area and everyone wore masks. Service, drinks and food was delicious. Definitely going back there!

Not all that

By CoptRWF |

We went to Murphy's to celebrate my sister's birthday. I informed the hostess that we have a birthday and nothing special was done, not even an acknowledgement by the waitress for my sister. This is so disappointing considering that this is a nice restaurant, I expect a lot more. There was a lot of details missing, my other sister ordered the snapper special, it was not good at all and raw in some places. Our waitress was not friendly and had a bad attitude. On another note, my sister ordered the spaghetti squash with the shrimp, that was delicious and I ordered the pork shank and it was also delicious. The desserts were very good too. Would I come here again? No! Too expensive for the inconsistent service and food quality.

Simply wonderful

How do you know you are in a great place - when you order a salad and they do not ask you what kind of dressing you want with it. Murphy's is located a couple of miles from Altlanta's downtown situated in a very nice neighborhood and has it's own parking - a great start! Also you can order your table online. Bottom line they make it very easy to get to them! When you show up you are welcome by a very cordial and professional staff. so now I are ready with high expectation to some great food ... and great it is indeed. I went with a bowl of Gazpacho and the lobster salad. The drink came with some crusted sourdough bread and high quality olive oil soon the be followed by the cold soup. The Gazpacho was chilled, tangy, great!. Next was the Lobster Cobb Salad - all ingredients in top freshness condition, individually cared with love all combined with a delicious light dressing. For desert I went with a trio and liked 2 out of the 3 - the Panna Cotta, loaded with real vanilla bean, and the Tollhouse pie. From the looking around at the other guests - they all seemed as happy as I was

Ask for Yasmin. Enjoy the chicken pesto burger!!! Incredible. And lemon chocolate desert. I sat and dined at the bar. The vibe, the food, the wine. All wonderful. Yum!!

Good food bad service

By rossboss_11 |

First time at Murphy’s since 1995. We took my sister-in-law and her boyfriend here as part of our Semi monthly get together without our children. We were late coming from Peachtree city but my wife’s sister got there on time for the reservation. It took several minutes for our waitress to come over and ask my wife and I for a cocktail. I ordered a martini and two glasses of wine for my sister in law and my wife. We watched our waitress move around the tables serving other cocktails and not ours. I asked her how our drinks were coming and she said they were backed up at the bar. I have been a bartender and I know that’s not accurate. She was borderline rude and it did not make for a pleasant overall experience. She never smiled and seemed frankly annoyed that she had to wait on us. Our total bill was over $200. Food was good but probably will not return until this service improves.

Great Food, Had To Visit Again!!!!

By gixxerryda |

My family and I visited Murphy's 3 times within 1 1/2 months. The food is really good. For starters we've tried the flat bread which is awesome and the calamari is good as well. My wife ordered the Murphy burger first time we went which was really good, you'll definitely enjoy it if you're looking for a good burger and decently priced. On our next visit she ordered the shrimp served with pineapple chutney on a bed of coconut rice which she was able to substitute due to allergies. That's her go-to now when we visit. I must say it was good. I am a fan of brisket and they had Guinness braised brisket which is so good, I go for it every time. You will not be disappointed. The meat just falls apart when you cut into it, so tender and juicy, I want to go back just writing this review. For desert we had the carrot cake which is really good and on another visit we had creme brûlée which is not available on a regular basis. All 3 times we visited, seating wasn't an issue but it doesn't hurt to make a reservation just to make sure you get a seat. The restaurant isn't that big but looks like it can see 100 comfortably. There's also a patio available to dine on and if it happens to rain becomes enclosed which is nice. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and on each visit the food came out in a timely manner. Can't wait for our next visit.

Great atmosphere no matter the occasion

By Annelie J |

12 of us went here for dinner during a business trip to Atlanta. The restaurant is divided into smaller rooms so no matter what the size of the party they can accommodate. Food was amazing. I would recommend the artichoke and trout. Make sure you save room for desert! I was really impressed that the noise level was not very high, we were all able to carry on a conversation during dinner.

A Must!

By queen15 |

We actually had lunch here two days while my husband was here for a conference. On the second day, guess who delivered our meal?? Dale Murphy himself!!! My husband was a bit starstruck to say the least! He is the most down-to-Earth, humble fella and talked with us for a while. We discussed common people we knew from our hometown and scored an autograph as well. Great food and a possibility of seeing a baseball legend!

Great Breakfast!

By divalicious1 |

We were in town for our Family Reunion. A friend suggested this place. The location was a beautiful restaurant. There is outdoor and indoor seating. The wait staff was pleasant and was patient answering our questions regarding the menu. The biscuits and muffins placed on the table was delicious. The delicious muffins do not taste like a normal cornbread muffin. It has a smoother taste and was very good. The food was good. We had the special - a pork on a biscuit with a sunny side up egg? DELICIOUS. We had shrimp and grits and burgers. All members of the family was satisfied and full upon leaving. Great place.

Murphy’s Never Disappoints

By davidbI2920TS |

Murphy’s is our goto place before an event at the Fox. We had a large group and Tony, our server, took great care of us. Our appetizers included Flash Fresh Calamari, Burrata and Grilled Sourdough. All great. Our Entries included Steak Frites, Guinness Braised Brisket, Roasted Springer Mountain Chicken and Lobster Cobb Salad. Again all great. Unfortunately, we didn’t have room or time for desserts. Great atmosphere and easy $2 valet parking. Just a good experience all around. Murphy’s never disappoints.

Great Food and Location were great, but service was just OK.

By Kaptainkoolg |

The food was absolutely great!! We had the Elote (fried corn), ROASTED SPRINGER MOUNTAIN CHICKEN and ENCHANTED SPRINGS TROUT. Everything was OUTSTANDING, and the food was served promptly and at great temperature. The seating was excellent. It was my wife's birthday so I pulled our waitress/server to the side and she was supposed to bring out a low key "surprise" dessert. This never happened. We also had requested that my wife's chicken be put in a "to-go" container, but we never received it; sadly since it was a good size portion. To remedy the lack of Birthday surprise, I ordered the DESSERT TRIO and found it well plated but average. I love the VA highlands area, and the specials all week in this restaurant are top notch. However, the oversights by our waitress/server really bring down the overall rating: FOOD 5+/Server-Waitress 2.5. Since we are also not offered anything (except the bill) for the oversights when we bought this to her attention it did temper the overall experience.

Wonderful Sunday Brunch

By bigeherr |

Had SUNDAY brunch with the family as we visited the city. Location is amazing and full of activity. Great people watching. Valet parking for $2 plus tip. Was sat immediately at an outside table which I recommend. Sweet bread basket was complimentary and excellent. I had the Shrimp and Grits and it was outstanding! Other dishes we had were the Eggs Benedict, Parmesan Crusted chicken, and pancakes. All looked incredible.

Great value and atmosphere

By rwhames |

Murphy's is one of the best options for restaurants in the famed Virginia Highlands area. There is a wine bar while you wait for dinner. You can purchase your wine from their wine shop and pay a corkage fee and take your bottle to the table. Even with the fee you save $ over typical restaurant charges per glass. The food quality was excellent, with creative preparation and excellent service. This was our first time eating at Murphy's, but will not be our last!!!!

First time for brunch

By Kathleen Alicia M |

Murphys is consistent and service today was great. I only wish the brunch had more gluten free options. To order eggs and side bacon/sausage is very expensive. Only reason I didn't give a 5.

A Few Issues Marred an Overall Fine Experience

By GPBurdell67 |

We joined another couple for dinner on Easter Sunday. As usual, the food was excellent. We had the salmon, seafood salad and a hamburger. Despite the smaller than normal crowd, service was very slow, perhaps because of holiday staffing? A pet peeve of mine is asking to substitute another side for the typical french fries and not being told that there is an upcharge. That happened, but the side (brussels sprouts) was so good that I did not make a fuss.

An Atlanta icon. If you’ve never been, we suggest you treat yourself. If you have, then you know!

By Laura |

Joy, the manager, and a delightful person, greeted us at our table, took our order, and brought biscuits, muffins, and coffee while we waited. Our server, Dillon, took over from Joy and he was also a delight. They had a full house with not even standing room but despite that, our order came quickly and was more than delicious. We never felt rushed and thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday morning brunch.

Good Food But Expensive

By Robert S |

This was our first visit and enjoyed our meal. Food was good and a fun place for a meal and was provided with good service. It was quite expensive especially when you charge $6.50 for 3 strips of bacon and $2.95 for a glass of coke.

always a treat

I always take business clients here. A nice assortment of seasonal foods, great wine and cocktails, and desserts.

As good as it has always been

By Fatatino |

I had lunch there last month. I have been there before several times throughout the years but not recently until we decided to go in July. We enjoyed our lunch like before. We had their special and another dish. Both were made very well. Our server explained things very clearly and professionally. Will definitely visit again when I am in that area.

Great Service and Food

By JJ F |

Visiting a friend in Atlanta and he suggested this for a late evening lite dinner. Two of us split the ½ chicken dinner and Ceasar Salad. They even prepared the dishes already split! The Sommelier recommend a very nice bottle of wine (½ price Monday). We really enjoyed the meal, the service and the total experience. We would go back anytime we are visiting Atlanta again. This place is highly recommended. See their website for more detailed information.

Great Service delivered, Credit Card Fee Disappoints!

By j R |

Murphy’s has been a part of my dining world for past 30 years…always consider it to be the ‘go to’ spot when getting together with friends, or a special occasion. Had lunch there, with two friends—a reunion of sorts. The service we received from Kevin M., was over the top! He is excellent at personalizing customer service, tailoring it to fit our visit. Kevin is very professional, and personable—my friends & I were all in agreement we had not received such great service from any establishment in a long time. Kevin is a breath of fresh air for dining out. 5 stars for Kevin M. -My two friends & I thoroughly enjoyed our meal choices: Salmon BLT, Crispy Chicken Sandwich, and the Shrimp & Grits lunch special. 1 Star for Murphy’s passing on a “Non-cash Fee” for using my credit card. That is the price of doing business—so tacky. Business Manager try negotiating with credit card services, or maybe the $4.00 cup of coffee & $12.00 slice of pie, could help cover the credit card fees. Our lunch was over $150, and Murphy’s is making the customer pick up the banking fees. I moved out of state so, it’s been a few years since I’ve dined at Murphy’s. This was the first time I remember being made to pay for using my credit card. And, I can say with certainty, it will be the last time!

Great Food! Great Service!

By Cathy H |

The wait staff was very kind but it was the food that blew us away. Everyone in our party was thrilled with the quality and freshness. The calamari was to die for. Never had calamari so tender. Drinks were great and save room for dessert! So good!

Not Great, But Expensive

By ChartreuseBuzzard |

We have been here before for a family gathering and thought the food was pretty good, so we stopped in for lunch today because we were in the neighborhood. Murphy's still has the same nice, subdued decor and atmosphere, but we spent $30 plus tip for a sandwich/fries, a tiny salad, and one glass of tea. It certainly was not worth the price. The salad consisted of 8-10 tiny "heirloom" tomato chunks, a few sprigs of something green (but not basil), and thinned-out mozzarella dribbles. Except for some raspberry syrup, the whole thing was tasteless even with the s&p I added. Not recommended.

Amazing Brunch

By Greta |

1st visit ever and the food was great. Very different from anything I've had before. It was my daughter's birthday and we love trying different food. She wanted avocado toast and I wanted to try the omelette. Instead, our waitress Jordan talked me into the Special for the day, stuffed pork loin roll with polenta, fried egg and Tabasco hollandaise sauce. My daughter had the avocados toast with radishes and roasted trout roe and a side of ham. Best food ever. Will try their dinner menu next time. Remember to call ahead for reservations. Fast service and valet parking.

Neighborhood Gem

Delightful dining experience. Was able to request a menu modification which was cheerfully accommodated. Cocktails were delicious. CC - our server was charming. Murphy's never fails.

Wonderful Patio Experience

By Cathy L |

We enjoyed a nice meal on the patio. Since it was summer, we started with a delicious appetizer which had avocado and goat's cheese, then each had a different dinner salad. We also had the dessert sampler and carrot cake to share. Very good!!!

Wonderful neighborhood spot.

Second visit from out of state to this great restaurant. Love the atmosphere of the neighborhood. Food is great and service wonderful. Get the Griller Artichokes! My Steak Frites was a little salty. Souse loved the Main Lobster Chopped Salad.

Excellent Sunday Brunch, but Don't Use the Valet Parking!!!

By Gwen H |

My husband and I dined at Murphy's for brunch recently. The service was excellent and the food was very good and tasty. The menu is full of Brunch entrees as well as lunch and dinner entrees. The Cheese Grits were hot and tasty. The Chicken Sausage out of this world good. My Peach Bellini was a bit tart, but that did not deter from the food. Murphy's now has the added benefit of Valet Parking. Unfortunately it was NOT a benefit to me and my husband because the parking attendants were lazy. There were people standing outside of Murphy's waiting to get their cars and no attendants in sight. We all noticed the attendants sitting/standing around across the street, so we all started walking in that direction. Once it was my turn, the attendants could not locate my transponder for my car. It took 10 minutes and ultimately one of the attendants had the transponder in his pants pocket. Needless to say I snatched my transponder from the attendant and my husband and I left.I will definitely dine at Murphy's again but will not use the Valet Parking.

Wonderful & Fun

By agashi24 |

Went with a few friends and it was terrific! They have $2 valet parking which is great because parking is nearly non existent in the neighborhood. I ordered the cheese platter for an appetizer which was plenty for three of us to share. Had some wine and steak, both delicious and steak was perfectly cooked. The service was prompt, courteous and knowledgeable. Had a delicious dessert but I don't remember what it was called, sorry. Got out of their under $100 and sooo worth it.

Food great, table terrible

By Martyjimbo |

To set the context: I went with my parents who are in their 80s for my birthday. We booked well in advance and specifically asked for a table inside away from drafts. When we arrived the only table they had available was on the enclosed patio and they told us it was at least a 30minute wait for one inside, with nowhere for my parents to sit. We took the table and got absolutely frozen. The food was good but we didn’t linger. Shortly afterwards my mother developed pneumonia and I’m sure it was from sitting outside at this restaurant.

Half off bottle of wine Monday's

By Jennifer P |

First time visiting. WONDERFUL experience. It was 50% off bottle of wine night for starters. The food was delicious and the staff were delightful. We had the burger and the brisket which were perfect. Valet parking too. Will go back!

Brunch with the Girls in a Sunday morning

By Morgan M |

Had a recommendation that this was a great brunch option and was thoroughly satisfied. The dress is casual. The atmosphere is relaxing set right within a peaceful neighborhood/ business district. I had the special of the day which was huevos rancheros and a side of pancake and grits. It was pretty good. The pancake was amazing. I tried the blueberry mimosa. To me it was a little strong and could have used a little more orange juice but still tasty and buzz worthy. Prior to breakfast they bring biscuits and blueberry muffins with a side of assorted jams and honey butter. Now that was amazing. My family members ordered awesome options as well. I would definitely recommend this establishment!

Love love love this place!

By Ms. TC |

Food is always great here. Bread service is amazing. Fresh juices compliment great cocktails. We had the Waldorf chicken salad sandwich on a croissant with a side salad with champagne Vin( a little thick for my liking but I got it on the side), a side order of the pancake and the chilequiles. Hailey was our server and she was great. Everything was perfect. I'll be back again and again.

Be aware if going for lunch

By StevenHScher |

Be aware if you go for lunch. We were surprised when the bill came. The bill was hidden under 2 other pieces of paper. Hidden in the bill without any prior notice was an added 20% gratuity. The waitress did not mention it nor was it on the menu. We normally would leave a 20% gratuity anyway, but that's not the point. A gratuity is an option the customer has to give. We spoke to the manager, who told us they are doing this at lunch because they can't get help. She said the gratuity goes to the whole staff. In other words, Murphy's is not paying them enough to attract workers so the guests are paying part of their wages. It was annoying mainly because there was not advance notice. We went for lunch. We both ordered the soup, salad & half sandwich ($17). I had the 1/2 brisket sandwich which was delicious. The Manhattan clam chowder was full of clams & was fresh & delicious. The small caesar salad was perfectly dressed. The food & service were great. Because of the gratuity situation they created it put a damper on the whole experience & left a bad taste in our mouths.

Great first experience

By J D |

We were there for Sunday brunch. We had the omelet and coconut pancakes the latter of which was the special for that day. Both were wonderful and the omelet was the best I've had in a long while. They bring you a biscuit with preserves to start which was the best I've ever had. All is very fresh and locally sourced. We can't wait to go back.
