I came here with a group of friends, some of which were Japanese, for a chill night out. They said it was 100% authentic Japanese food, and that it was the best sushi they had outside of their country. For me, it was incredible. The fish was fresh and the service was also very good. I will definitely go there again, even though my wallet won't be happy as it is quite pricey.

By most standards this is not a 3 star sushi restaurant, but in Austin. In Austin this place is average at best. I used to go to the old location on Greystone all the time - it was awesome. Recently we went to the new location and were underwhelmed with the food and service. I may give it another try, but there are much better options in town.

We just love this place. The food is amazing. Quality of the fish is amazing. Good service and good cocktails too. Hidden neighborhood gem for sure!

Musashino is a favorite of a good pal of mine in Austin who knows her restaurants. We had a group of 8 and ordered a dozen dishes that all were beautifully presented and tasted great!

After being told the wait would only be 45 minutes my guests and I waited an hour and a half before I had to remind the hostess that we were still waiting to be seated. After being taken to a table that was not cleaned or bussed we were eventually seated and immediately informed that numerous items on the sushi menu as well as the kitchen were sold out and that it was last call so we needed to order everything we might want up front. No dessert was offered to conclude the meal as the kitchen had closed and even though us and 4 other tables/groups were still eating our dinner, the kitchen staff still felt the need to transport all of the restaurant garbage through the patio within inches of our plates of raw food. When this issue was addressed to the general manager the response was a mere, “I’m sorry, that shouldn’t have happened!” A $200 tab and no effort was made to demonstrate the slightest knowledge of customer service. I have no intention of returning and have taken to sway anyone in search of good authentic Japanese cuisine away from this restaurant.

Fantastic refined food, culinary at the top of Austin, great service. Best dinner experience in three weeks here, authentic, professional, friendly.

The sushi at this place is really good but it’s super crowded. We were seated at the bar area but had a good time despite this being a business dinner!

Update 01-31-2024 Mushashino consistently delivers first rate sushi! As usual, we started with miso soup and a large house hot saki... both delicious. Our second course, as always, was the avocado kama, an avocado partially scooped out and refilled with crabmeat. Nice sauce on the top, outstanding as always. Something new on the menu this time, fried oysters... fixed wonderfully, and oh so tasty! Then began the sushi parade... two blue fin tunas, both fatty, one big eye, the fatty one seared... to die for! Next up, salmon two ways, one king, one fatty... Yum! Followed by yellowtail tuna, one belly, one cheek: both delish! We paused a bit... more hot saki! Jumping back in, first up was something new for us, seared Wagyu, perhaps an odd thing to order at a first rate sushi place, but it was great. We'll definitely get that again! Next on the plate was unagi (fresh water eel), served piping hot... always one of my favorites. On the recommendation of our sushi chef (we always sit at the sushi bar), we had the smoked escolar (mackerel), definitely a Texas-tasting fish! LOL More hot saki... We next enjoyed a pile of tobiko, served battleship-style, very salty and tasty too. More hot saki... A round of salmon skin sushi followed... hard to describe, just get it if you can... At last, we ordered dessert - a combination of uni and salmon roe, again served battleship-style... heaven on a plate, and a great finish to a deliriously delicious dinner! Highly recommend Mushashino! It's a high price tag, but worth every penny IMHO!

Solo dinner at the sushi counter. Edamame was served at the perfect temperature and amount of salt. Tuna Tataki served in a Martini glass with also avocado cubes at the right degree of tenderness. Sauce provided a perfect balance to avocado and tuna. Nice touch of Jalapeno and a single carrot slice, all sliced to less than 1/8" thickness, like in a high-end restaurant in Tokyo. Sushi with perfect freshness - from Hamachi to Unagi. Attention to detail even in the "humble" mochi, served already cut in very small bites. All of this with a nice view of the Sushi chefs and the aging Japanese owner. One gets the sense of the quality just watching a sushi chef in training while he practices slicing tuna with a single motion of the wrist and weighs each slice for consistency. Quite amazing!

An old Austin favorite just keeps getting better. If you like friendly and knowledgeable staff with very skillful sushi chef this is the place you want to get your fresh seafood. From light miso soup to delightful salads Musashino chefs pay special attention to details. The batter on shrimp and vegetable tempura are perfectly crispy. The portions and size of the nigiri and rolls are generous. Notably the Japanese rice in the sushi’s are cooked perfectly. The atmosphere is lively and with location close to central with good parking.

We went to Musashino to celebrate a birthday recently. The experience was as wonderful as always! The staff is cheerful, and the service spot on, attentive but not intrusive. We arrived when they opened so we were able to be seated immediately at the sushi bar. The evening began with miso soup for two and a large hot sake. IMHO, it's the best miso soup in ATX. Our second course was an appetizer called Avocado Kama, which is partially hollowed out and stuffed with shrimp, crab, and a spicy sauce ... served piping hot. It was fantastic! Our sushi indulgence began with nigiri pieces of the three super fatty tuna and salmon fish that were the specials that night. Incredible! Delicious! We returned to the regular nigiri menu next, and sampled the unagi, salmon and hamachi kama. The fish in this course was great, expertly prepared, and delectable! On the recommendation of our waitress, we went back to the appetizer section of the menu and tried the baby octopus kara age, five fried pieces with fish sauce. A new dish for us, and a great recommendation! For our next course, we had mackerel and the ozzy roll. The mackerel was divine, a bit fishy, but in a very good way! The ozzy roll included unagi, shrimp, avocado and cucumber, with smelt caviar on the outside. The roll was different, very good, but not really something we would order again with all the other rolls on the menu. For our final course, I re-visited the unagi and my wife had the toro covered in mustard greens. She reported it was very good. Finally, dessert ... we chose our usual, tanin bune, which is a combination of uni and salmon roe, served gunkan style (battleship-style). The uni was sourced from Tasmania, and was our first time trying that type of uni. It was creamy, lightly sweet, a bit less sweet than the California uni we usually order. The combination of the uni and roe presents a sweet and salty taste, and was lucious. We cannot wait to go back!

Never would have spotted this driving by but found it online and went on a Friday night. No reservation, we got a table just showing up around 5:30. Service was top notch, the whole team watches each table closely but not overly in the way. Lovely decoration and warm feeling to the place, both of which were quite unexpected from the unusual location in top floor of brick business-office type development. Definitely would go back.

Sashimi and sushi are so fresh and well presented. Plus real wasabi, not the usual stuff. Excellent miso soup. Excellent hot tea. Attentive service, fair prices Each time we go, we like it more and more. One needs to go to Hatsuhana on E 48th in the Big Apple to march this quality.

I ate at the old location of Musashino over 10 years, maybe longer. The good was always delicious but it was too dark inside. So I am very happy about their new location near UT with bright windows. My husband and I sat at the sushi counter and it was really fun. The sushi chef was very sweet and her rolls (cucumber, kampyo and tuna) were fresh tasting and yummy. Our fav thing to order has always been the salmon teriyaki which is an unbelievable spread. You get two pieces of grilled salmon, asparagus, potato salad and grilled skewered veg all drizzled with teriyaki sauce. The dinner also comes with rice, salad and miso soup. If you like salmon, I highly recommend it. The service and food were both excellent and I love the new location.

Still one of our favorite sushi places in ATX. Fish is super fresh, served in large portions. Tried a few different rolls this time ad well, also delicious. Desserts are also fabulous! Service was solid, once we got things rolling! Highly recommended for sushi!

The fish is fresh; the layout is quaint. Service was not good. Server once only moved around table. Otherwise she would just talk from one place assuming everyone could hear. Not possible at table we were at plus it was pretty busy at 8 pm. Prices on wine and sake are crazy high. With so many options in Austin, not sure why you would pick this for about same money overall. Felt like we were being kicked out when it got close to 10 pm. We were a good table in terms of tips and money spent. Not sure what the issue was other than the staff wanted to sit at bar and/or leave. Guess it was off night. Might try it again...though being told that the cheapest sushi plate is $65 and then it just goes up for better fish is pretty unsettling. Don't know any other sushi bar that uses that language.

Visited my son on Labor Day and he brought us to this place. We went without reservation and we got the last table. The server was pretty quick to give us the menu and allow us to take our time to study it. Being there the first time, we asked the server several questions before we put in our order. We got the sashimi plate as an appetizer, son got the curry katsu, wife got the tempura udon and I got my usual unagi don and a side of agedashi tofu. The sashimi is very fresh and reasonable in size. son likes the katsu, wife likes the tempura, not too oily and the tempura comes separate from the udon soup, and the unagi don is superb. We finish our meal with a red bean ice cream. Not sure what to say about the décor, but it's not your usual Jap restaurant décor. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor and they got outside sitting too. As it was a Saturday night, they got a few customers sitting at the bar waiting for tables to be cleared. Although we finish our meal and paid the bill, we continue to sit and talk for half an hour more and they did not chase us away. Price wise, its somewhat higher than the usual fare. Will definitely be back.

Friendly, attentive service. Superb flavors. Chefs know how to blend flavors for an enjoyable dining experience. Cocktails are inventive and delicious. Intimate but lively atmosphere where you don't feel stifled, but your conversation is still just your table.

There was a time I didn't like sushi. Those were dark times. Now I like sushi and my life is greatly improved. If I had to describe this meal in three words, which I don't but I like a challenge, I would say delicious, yummy, and tasty. Y'all should nosh here.

Mushashino never disappoints! We recently stopped by on a Friday evening, arriving a little before opening to ensure a seat at the sushi bar. We really enjoy conversing with the sushi chefs, especially at Musashino, because they all know their craft! We had a medley of sushi, mostly what was recommended by the chef serving us. Everything we had was 110% on the mark. Perfectly fresh fish served perfectly prepared. We usually don't have dessert when we're out for dinner, we made an exception this time ... Tempura Ice Cream was divine (see picture). A most excellent evening, we will definitely be back soon.

The GPS directions were hard to follow and being on a busy street, it was hard to see. We had to loop around and come in another direction and saw the sign on s strip mall but still had to search for the Restaurant which was located on the 2nd floor. The interior looked like a Japanese Restaurant and there were a number of Staff behind the Sushi counter. We had to leave suddenly and they prepared our meal to go but when we got to a place to eat it, the Sushi did not look appetizing at all and we threw most of it out.

Had a very nice birthday dinner with my bf. He previously hasn't been a fan of sushi but seemed to enjoy the rolls and nigiri that I ordered. Our waitress was very accommodating and the atmosphere was very enjoyable. Everything was very good and not overly priced (sushi is expensive, period) so I'd definitely give it another go if I was in the area and in the mood for authentic sushi.

Always great sushi and quality is superb Smoky is really great sushi master I wish they would do lunch! Grilled black cod appetizer is my favorite

My daughter lives in Austin , and my wife and I frequently visit her, and all love to eat out as a family. The girls love sushi, its not my fav, but after a successful visit to Uchi a few months ago I decided to try it again. The girls picked this place based on rec of Austin natives. My food was the best of our group as much of it was cooked, a. chicken curry .The girls had several different types of rolls, and several pieces of tuna. I thought the service was slow, and the food expensive. My girls thought the sushi was just average and unimpressive. My wife got a bacterial infection and suffered diarrhea for over three weeks. Thats a scary thing, and very hard to deal with. Once we determined that the sushi was the only thing that could have caused it, we immediately contacted the restaurant, and they just ignored us.
Best Sushi in Austin!
Great sushi and really good Chilean Sea Bass, squid salad, cocktails are well made. This is a family favorite!
