The best place to eat in the Phildalphia Museum of Art

By Dave-Marilyn-15301 |

If you are in the Philadelphia Museum of Art (and you should go) this is a good place lunch. It is pricey, but then all museum restaurants are. But the food was quick and tasty.

A nice place to stop to rest and eat. The choices were great and quite tasty. I was pleased. I had a cup of soup and 1/2 sandwich. The food was fresh and most enjoyable.

Cafe Inside of the Museum of Art

By LK R |

We enjoyed pausing for a bit, and being able to eat at the Museum, instead of having to leave & come back.... so this restaurant / cafe was a great "find", that we did not expect. We just shared a sandwich, and it was kinda "pricey", but good and fresh. They had salads, soups, and I believe Salmon also, but the sandwich looked best. If drink and dessert prices had been lower, we would have made more food purchases. However, we loved the cafe setting -- very open and well-lighted, and of course the Art!

Restaurant is a Gem hidden within the Museum

By Dale W |

We ate Lunch on a Wednesday. The service was a little slow so we were a little late for our appt to see the Impressionist exhibit but there was no problem getting us in. The menu is somewhat limited but the "chef's table" had many of the available entrees buffet style which gave us a chance to sample several entrees at a price of 8-10 dollars more than any one entree. I have eaten at this restaurant several times. The Sunday Brunch is excellent and reservations are needed. Even on the weekday afternoon the place was fairly busy. Reservations are recommended. The food and convenience are worth making this part of your museum experience

best restaurant in a museum

We ate the best hamburger and fries that I have ever eaten in a polished modern room with great service.

Modern Cafe

By grapeeape |

I agree with another reviewer that mentioned it's "OK for Quick Bite." We had a light breakfast, drove up to Philly, arrived at the museum by about 11:30 and didn't have dinner reservations until later in the evening so we definitely were going to require a lite lunch for exploring the museum and sites of the city. They have nice modern cafe (almost cafeteria like, I wouldn't call it a restaurant), more gourmet food court. They did not have pizza that day, but had hot pasta. The sandwich bar does not heat sandwiches but they make them to order. I was impressed that everything appeared fresh and not already premade. I was happy about that. Prices are what you expect for convenience.

Very convenient when you are visiting the museum and the food was good. A nice touch that it changes with the special exhibit, but a bit expensive for portion size. Service was decent and the atmosphere is nice.

This was a treat!

Servce was great! Food was awesome! This was a treat after being in the museum the entire morning. I will return...however, this time I think I will check out the chef's table. Yummy!

Excellent cafeteria - Try the soups!

This is an excellent cafeteria and offers fresh house made options as well as a beautiful salad bar. Make a day of your visit!

A Poor Experience at the Balcony Cafe...

By Gooner10-8 |

There are a number of cafes/cafeterias at the Museum, and we visited what's probably the smallest of them, "The Balcony Cafe". This compact unit has a limited range of snack items on offer - when we got there around 2.30 p.m., there was only one type of sandwich available, but that particular item proved reasonably good, as did a cookie. The coffee verged on "poisonous", and the counter service was, to put it mildly, distinctly offhand. We would not recommend.

Not a huge selection

The food is good but fairly expensive. The menu is limited. The service was very good and it's convenient not to have to leave the building in search of a meal.

Art Museum Cafeteria

By Cleomissy |

Lots of good choices - salad and soup bars, and sandwich, burrito and chicken stations. There were also pre-made sandwiches. We shared black bean soup, an outstanding chicken burrito and a wickedly rich brownie. Nice selection of beverages. The desserts are located by the cashiers, so it's really difficult to pass up adding a cookie or brownie to your meal!

Awsome musuem

Stopped by for a bite to eat during a visit to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Was pleasantly surprised by their menu selection. Salad bar had a nice variety of vegetables, meats and toppings and the entrée selection appeared pretty ample as well.

Very good

By jedrus7 |

Good restaurant with rafinated food and excellent service, great possibility to have a break in visiting this splendid museum. Squash soup tasted splendidly, salmon was a bit too greasy, but generally the quality of food is high there, even if that place is a bit pricey.

Very good for a museum cafe.

Nice options, decent prices. Hot coffee, desserts, member discount. I had something from the burrito bar, where they create it based on your choices. Flavorful, warming on a windy day. Very good.

Great for a relaxing afternoon after viewing some of the "treasures" of the Museum. Nice to just sit and rest your feet and contemplate on the beautiful works of Art that you are viewing

Eats

In the cafeteria, everything is prepared once it is ordered. You may choose from tacos, Mac and cheese, pizza, sandwiches, soup, salads, desserts, coffee and beverages. Very reasonable.

The atmosphere is nice and having the museum there is a big plus. However, it's too pricy for what you get. The Sunday brunch is not worth it either. I've had much better (& cheaper) at good hotels.

Lovely way to end a day at the museum

By Foster7204 |

Whenever I visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art, I always have lunch in the museum restaurant. The food is very good. There is a very nice wine list and the service is always wonderful. Very helpful with making a decision what to order as well as the right wine to enjoy. I always find the buffet the best choice for me. I am a vegetarian and find the buffet has a great choice of food itmes to have and I don't have to limit myself with only one choice. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, but it is so beautiful and the service and food are definitly worth what you are paying, so the value is very good. This is a wonderful way to splurge and help you enjoy a great day at the museum

Granite Hill (Phila. Art Museum Restaurant)

This restaurant has permanently closed! What a shame- it was always a delightful end to a few hours at the museum.

Better Than Average Cafeteria Food

By Bob S |

Great selection; reasonable prices; convenient and the food is fresh, tasty, attractive and freshly prepared.

Wholesome Food and a Chance to Refresh

By Lynn M |

This is just the cozy spot for a food break while spending hours in the museum. The cafeteria style food service allows folks with varying tastes to be satisfied. Homemade soups and salads are popular items as are the wide-ranging beverage choices. And the visitors do not have to leave the premises of the museum. How convenient!

It's a good museum restaurant

By ruxandrabarb |

But like in all other, the prices are higher than the quality. Wish they would have a larger variety of healthy foods (I'm a vegetarian striving to eat vegan whenever possible).

Two restaurants to choose from.

By Tortita |

A sit down forman restaurant and a counter-service market. The prices on the sitdown were on the high side, but the counter service was quick and reasonable priced. You don't have to leave the museum to catch a bite!

Hidden Nugget

By travaillour |

Tour group from NJ. We were booked sit down lunch in private dinning room. Had no idea a full service restaurant existed in the Philadelphia Museum. The room was bright, the table setting attractive, the service was quick, friendly, professional. We were served a pre-ordered one plate meal of chicken, fish, potatoes mixed salad goat cheese on toast. The chicken was a bit underdone but the salmon was excellent. There was a mixed miniature dessert plate per table. This room is cold and on a hot day refreshing but take a sweater. It is located just beyond the gift shop. It is near elevators and toilets.

I love this place!!!

I always stop by this place everytime I'm in Philadelphia, great food and great people. Nice environment as well. Thank you....

Sunday brunch is the best!

By javagirl29 |

Fabulous place for brunch before or after visiting the museum. For $35 per person, the brunch buffet is extensive and delicious. Options included prime rib, eggs made to order, shrimp and grits, eggs Benedict , brioche French toast (yummy) plus salad bar. A dessert buffet follows the meal plus coffee and a drink from the bar of bloody mary( custom made for you), mimosa, prosecco or champagne. So worth the cost. Wonderful wait staff. Everyone was charming.

Come hungry, leave happy

By michaelrnyc |

Good food, pleasant service, lovely atmosphere. We have been here twice and enjoyed both visits very much. We now plan on having lunch here as part of the experience. We would recommend the same. I didn't know that you can book a table, there was a 45 minute wait during the Van Gough exhibit, but with so much to do and see that was not a problem. You may want to book a table prior to your visit. The chef's table is really nice, tasty, small buffet and perfect for lunch.

OK for A Quick Bite

By Deb B |

We had a quick lunch at the museum restaurant that offered sandwiches, soups, salads and a taco/burrito bar. Along with a selection of bakery items and drinks. The restaurant is in temporary space as the museum undergoes renovations. I chose a smoked turkey BLT sandwich and a blonde brownie. The meal was OK for a quick bite.

Cafe

By Terri V |

Cafe is well lite and friendly! But omgosh the prices! 2 cup of chicken soup all broth! And 1 order of fries. $22 What are they trying to do rob people! Not affordabale for a family.

Good food in a great building.

By Martin97uk |

The museum restaurant offers a range of good, wholesome food. Not cheap, but not too expensive either. Soups were excellent, and there was a good range of other food and drink. Not the place to go if you want just a burger and soda though.

Early lunch after the Van Gogh exhibit

The staff is very accomodating and helpful. The atmosphere is very pleasant.Nice choices on the menu

Very memorable luncheon.

By Kimbellini |

The food was awesome here. I want to go back to the museum just to eat here. It's a little expensive but I will gladly pay for quality any day. We loved the cheese selection. It was a nice surprise to me that there was such a great place to eat inside the museum.

good food, beautiful setting

By Jbendler |

This is an outstanding restaurant if a triffle pricey. That being said both my wife and I enjoyed our meals

Great at Granite Hill

By kad2pa |

The food preparation and presentation is excellent. The atmosphere is relaxing and the staff is top notch. It is not inexpensive for lunch, but it well worth the price to visit such a charming museum restaurant.

Enjoy while at the museum.

By rjainsley |

A pleasant time and place to slow down and enjoy the food while at the museum.Food was most enjoyable however the lobster slightly over done taste had not disappeared which was good Service as usual was impeccable. A must ro try at the museum.

AN EXCELLENT PLACE TO PAUSE

By Martin Thurgood T |

There's a good choice of soups and a large salad bar from which to make your own lunchtime selection. Prices are reasonable. Seating is in a light and airy room. A good place to stop and rest: you'll need to if you want to see all that the Museum has to offer.
