Best Seafood Restaurant in Brooklyn

By Sharcox |

I found this restaurant a couple of years ago completely by accident and sat outside with a glass of wine and decided to look a the menu. Wow! a fabulous choice of seafood. Since then I have been back every time I have been in Brooklyn (most recently last week) and am working my way through the menu. So far my favourite is the swordfish although the mussels come a close second. The service is friendly and efficient and the cost is reasonable for the quality of food provided. They also have an open kitchen so you can see everything being prepared and cooked. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Great mussels

By Brooklyntraveler_8 |

My husband and I frequently come to this restaurant and enjoy sitting outside on a summer evening. We usually get the same order because we enjoy it so much. Generally, we start off with an ice cold Blue Moon on tap, followed by a seafood salad and 2 orders of mussels. We have tried several different kinds of mussels but tend to enjoy the classic the most. My only complaint is that the bread served with the mussels is not very good. Otherwise, great seafood.

Unpleasant gathering!!

Deciding what to eat with a group of people is a chore, but once agreed upon you head out with hopes of enjoyment. Well not in this case. Upon arrival we waited for twenty minutes for a table, normally no big deal, there were tables available but the owner wanted to seat us in the back. (Keep in mind we were the only group in the back dining area) After being seated we ordered drinks, again another long wait. Ok we gave the girl a pass knowing she’s the only server. We then ordered dinner. BOOM! Got hit with long wait, all of our dishes weren’t served at the same time. By the time all of our meals were served we had cold food. Not cooked thoroughly or over cooked ( have you ever eaten over cooked shrimp?) not advisable. And tell me how you can mess up pasta. Well you get the gist. Before leaving we attempted to use the filthy rest room ( well that didn’t happen) Lesson learned never again!! Mussels and More not worth it!!!!!!!!

Great Dining

Great place to eat and have a glass of wine. I love to eat outdoors when the weather permits and mussels and more is the perfect place for it. The seafood dishes and pasta are especially good. Combine this with a great glass of wine and sitting outdoors people watching made my dining experience here very satisfying. The staff and service was exceptional . I will definitely be back. Not Worth a Return Trip

Having been to many restaurants in Bay Ridge we decided to try something new so we met our son and his girlfriend for dinner last night at Mussels and More. One nice thing about this place is there is outdoor seating as well as indoor so because the evening was warm, we decided to eat indoors. The host took us to the back of the restaurant....way in the back, where the kitchen is even though most tables were empty. Wouldn't have been my first choice, but it's my fault for not speaking up. Our waiter was attentive, for the most part, but when it got busy, it was difficult to track him down even for more ketchup, or another beer. Cold glasses of water came, then our orders taken. We started out with Calamari, crispy and warm served with a side of marinara, as expected. Not a huge plate for 4 people for $14. Girlfriend ordered the Greek Salad, son ordered the Chicken Chipotle Wrap, my husband, a hamburger and fries, and myself the Classic Mussels. Girlfriend states the Greek Salad was acceptable nothing to rave about, Chicken Chipotle wrap was finished with a nod, however, the hamburger was overcooked and dried out...not the ordered medium. My mussels were served in a large pot covered with another pot for the shells. Several of the shells came up empty, but that's expected, I guess. The classic sauce was somewhat flavored, but really could have used to be kicked up with more garlic. I think my biggest complaint was the prices on the on-line menu were WAY lower than in actuality. For instance the Calamari appetizer on-line reads $8, it's really $14. The Greek salad online was $8, it's really $12 - that's $10 right there. The wrap and the hamburger aren't even on the on-line menu, so I guess I was just surprised, and not pleasantly, that with 4 beers and 2 glasses of wine the bill came to $125.00. That seems high considering we only ate a salad, burger, a wrap and mussels. You can get an Italian dinner for 4 just about anywhere in Bay Ridge for that amount....with a lot more food. It wasn't terrible, but it's not worth a return trip.

Best Mussels in Brooklyn

By DrSnowBear |

My boyfriend and I absolutely love the mussels at this place. FOOD: If you want mussels done right then I highly recommend this place. I love seafood and am picky about how my mussels are cooked. This place has yet to disappoint (we've dined in and ordered take out during the week and weekend). Even my boyfriend who isn't big on seafood gets excited about trying a new mussels dish. Now that we've tried all of them, I will say that the high price point dishes, with lobster, are worth a try and can be shared if you have some appetizers. Appetizers: Nothing really stand out, but Buffalo Wings, Calamari, Sweet Potato Fries are all good options. Main Course: Mussels, Mussels, Mussels. We stopped trying the other stuff of the menu, albeit good, the mussels are AMAZING! Fra Diavolo Mussels are a great option if you are unsure/experimenting (that's how I got my boyfriend hooked). Valencia Mussels and Bisque Mussels are our favs. Drinks: Alcoholic beverages, mixed drinks, are no better or worse than expected. That being said they have a good selection of draft beer. Desserts: Nothing to write home about, but I may be biased since I'm usually pretty full at this point. PORTIONS: Generous (especially for seafood) SERVICE: Early in the week (mon, tues, wed) is when we've gotten best service and most undivided attention. Although we have no complaints about service this place does get packed on weekends especially in the summer so other may not be as pleased. THE SPACE: As other Yelp reviews have pointed out the restaurant is divided in two, with the bar at the front of the restaurant and the dining room in the rear. In order to get the dining room there is a short hallway past the bar. As I mentioned above in the warmer weather there is also outdoor dining, which was pet friendly. PRICE: Moderately priced, but worth every penny. **PET FRIENDLINESS: Yes!! In our experience, the outdoor dining, is pet friendly. Our Shichon has spent many summer evenings sitting table-side.

Hype

By MrsV75 |

The first time we had dinner here our meals were okay. Yes, just okay. The bread was stale, the meal was passable but the service was great. We wanted to give this muched hyped local seafood restaurant another try. Two weeks later we go back but this time our experience was worse than the previous time! Still stale bread on the table, horrible clams (chewy and over cooked), pitiful and expensive dinner and the this time the service was horrible. This seafood restaurant has had such great things said about it but we didn't see anything to cheer about. We won't ever be going back.

Great Food and service

Used to be better

By l0bsterking |

Been here about 6 times in the last year I always loved this place. From the oyster to fried clams. And octopus. But it seems. It is not as good as it wonce was. I know it’s hard to be good all the time. But when people spend money. They expect the best

Great seafood

By BayRidgeGal |

In addition to their famous mussels and lobster roll the restaurant serves excellent fish dishes. Food is fresh and tasty. Skip the hard wooden seating at the front for tables in the back.

Very nice

By Oneisha C |

The waitors were very nice, the food was great. The place is a bit noisy and crowded but overall I enjoyed going there.

A must do

By Gardoz9 |

We keep on going back. The mussels are great and they have about 20 different choices to select from. My wife is not a mussel lover but she enjoys having them here. If you really don't like mussels that's why there's "More"> nice selection of other entries, includig pasta, fish & meat. You can sit at a regular table in the back or up front near the bar family style, either way you won't be disappointed. The only down side is parking which is always a problem in the neighborhood.

very good food

Very good seafood and very reasonable prices will come for sure again. Mussels and oysters very fresh .

The Dead Lobster in Lobster Tank

By Bobbi S |

I would love to give this restaurant 4 stars but there were two, very off-putting situations we experienced there that stop me fully from doing so. The star-worthy good: portions are very generous, the shrimp we had was perfectly cooked, a good size, and plentiful. The french fries were fresh tasting, with just the right amount of crisp. The pasta was chock-filled with garlic. The interior design of open ceilings, ductwork, blond wood, and exposed brick were all inviting. The cons: the menu is not long on detail and the Chipotle Chicken Wrap we ordered came with bacon, a food item we do not eat and which was not listed in the description. The issue was not so much the bacon, but the face that our waiter made when we told him we don't eat pork and that we did not know it would be in the wrap. He had the chef re-make the wrap, minus the bacon, but his face showed annoyance and he did not offer to make this change on our behalf until we explained several times that we did not know there would be bacon in the wrap. He made this same face again when we did not finish our meal (which, by the way, took a surprisingly long time to re-make). The second issue was the dead lobster. Now I know that you have up to 12 hours to consume a lobster after it has died, and we know for a fact that the manager (owner?) knew that the lobster had died because he came over and talked to us about it, but who knows if the lobster was sick as opposed to some other, less-disconcerting reason for its demise? Maybe they should have taken the lobster out of the tank so people wouldn't be grossed out? Unfortunately, a less than stellar experience for us, so to speak.

The fish is fresh!

By Tnicholo |

The portions were generous and the fish was fresh and cooked to perfection. The place also has a full bar. Very friendly clientele. Seems to be a daily place for many customers. Great value!

Nice, unique restaurant in Bay Ridge.

By L Tran |

The restaurant is located at the corner of 5th Ave and 80th Street in Brooklyn. As suggested by the name, the place offers mussels prepared similarly to moules frites in Belgian cuisine, but with an Italian twist, and that is quite unique in Bay Ridge. The food was good and the service was attentive and friendly.

Yummy, Yummy, Yummy

By Sandi L |

Requested that the chef not add any salt to my dish. Body has a problem with sodium. I know, I know mussels come from salty sea. I ordered “The Original” and it came without added salt! I was so happy! My friend ordered “The Thai” and she was very pleased with her dish! We have been before and will definitely go back!

Delicious food, nice atmosphere . . .

By DeeDel6-2 |

This restaurant is a terrific find. I'm a mussels lover and the wide variety of ways that Mussels and More offers in their preparation is exciting. My husband, not a fan of mussels, enjoyed a teriyaki-prepared salmon that was delightful. We sat in a family-style part of the restaurant but I think the lounge area was a little warmer; more inviting. The menu, overall, is extensive and the breads and roasted red pepper tomato dipping sauces served with your meal are very, very good. Most items are ala carte, which means the cost for the meal can quickly add up. Located in a neighborhood where prixe fixe menus abound, this restaurant has to work a little harder to deliver the value. And it does. We each had a Greek salad, (crisp, cold, fresh vegetables - just as we like them), a glass of wine, and an entree. We finished with a delightful tiramisu, (plenty to be shared by two), and cappuccinos. Out the door, including tip, we spent about $100. I'm looking forward to returning.

Yummy mussels

By Sandi L |

Went for a late lunch. We ordered fried calimari and it was done to perfection. Very tender so they know the exact cooking time. The Mainara sause was very good too. My friend ordered the Classic Mussels and I ordered Bisque Mussels. Both were very tasty and we enjoyed our meal. Our waiter was very accomodating. We were not borhered and were allowed to sit and talk. Don't understand negetive reviews -- don't go the a seafood place and order burgers, salads and chicken wraps! As to prices, didn't you look at the menu before ordering? We will be going back!!

Exceptionally unexpected

By Tom R |

We went out to eat on a Saturday , late afternoon. They had a live band, music was fairly loud but we were able to get a table in the rear, so it didn't interfere with conversation. I started off with a Salmon chowder soup which was outrageous. Main course was Seafood Paella .Simply delicious. Dessert was a Death by Chocolate creation. Service was friendly and professional. They offered suggestions when asked. Soup was $8.00 and so was dessert. Well worth it. Main course wasn't that expensive. With drinks and dessert bill was under $100 for two. Well worth the trip.

You’re crazy if you don’t visit!!!!

This is such a fabulous place for business, family, friends and more! It’s just a cab ride away from Manhattan, so go experience the great food and atmosphere of a New York restaurant ‘must go’. You’re crazy if you don’t go!

Truck Stop food -0

By Beachratt |

Had high hopes but was sadly disappointed. The online menus were wrong and the prices were also wrong. There was no one sitting at the very long bar. And no one at the tables in the bar. The back dining room had lovely decor exposed brick and dark wood tables. There were no customers! 7pm ? But we sat anyway. We read the menu which was not the same as the online version. We ordered 2 beers in tap they were not cold. The appetizers we decided to try were baked clams. They came to the table 6 pieces. They looked Horrible and the amount of garlic and butter that was spread on top was atrocious! The stuffing was soggy mess and the topping of butter and garlic sauce which was cold was horrible. I tried to scrap off the sauce with bread (also not hot) to try to eat one. I put it to my mouth and it was horrible. The clams were chewy and the entire stuffed clam was inedible! Had to send it back. So the server gladly took them back and offered the raw clams. Ok we pulled the trigger and said yes. They were top necks not little necks. They were not shucked properly. Had to cut off the shell myself. To eat. Not top quality clams. Our entrees came out just as we were eating the clams as well. One order of grilled salmon with rice and mixed vegetables. And an Order of grilled shrimp tacos. Both entrees were tasteless no seasoning On the tacos nothing Overall dinner was a disaster. Don't know how they are in business for over 7 years.

Excelleny Mussels

By Gardoz |

There are some many choices for the type of sauce with your mussels that a decision is hard to make, My favorite however is the Valencia, whic is a spicy sauce with chorizo sausage. The sauce is so good I'm tempted to ask for a straw to make sure I get it all. The are other good choices besides mussels (the more). There are other types of seafood as well as meats. My wife makes god use of these other choices as she is not as great a mussel fan as I am. She tells me the macironi with shrimp is very good. The oyster appitizers are als very good.

Seafood and Pasta!

By BucketListExpl0rer |

We were here for a party and it was a good first experience for everyone. The service was average but our dishes were great! We started with their mussels, which had great flavor! We then ordered a variety of pasta dishes, which everyone enjoyed. The pesto pasta was great and so were the seafood pastas. I would have rated this a 5 but the brownie dessert was extremely dry, which was a disappointing end to a great dinner.

seafood nite

By JokerLongIslandNY |

had dinner with my daughter and son in law. great seafood , had the paella. fresh and hot when it came and super flavor. service was attentive and very accomadating to make sure all was prepared and presented correctly. Bar area nice where pub style eating can be done. Dining room limited ., fri and sat nite recommend reservations. dining room a bit noisy some what tough to hear across the table. maybe because of high ceilings and less than adequate sound proofing.Overall super seafood and great chocolate truffle and cheese cake.

Really good muscles and seafood in general.

I was glad when this place opened up since I really like Mussels. It is really very good. They have many different sauces you can try with your Mussels. Another time I had the salmon which was really good and another time the Pork Chop special, again it was very good. The only thing I ate here that was really terrible was the mashed potatoes. I don't recommend them at all. But it is a fun place to go with friends. In the front they have 3 big tables that sits about 10, and for a group near the bar with the good food and all open windows to the outside is really enjoyable.

Great place for mussels

By Catherine S |

If you love mussels this is the place for you! They fix them over a dozen different ways and each way is more delicious than the last. The bar is large and the bartenders are friendly. There's seating inside and out and you can even eat at the bar. It's a great neighborhood place.

Mussels & Morr

By Alfred J B |

I can do a long review but I’ll give it to straight, this places food and drinks is what keeps people coming back to this restaurant. We have had the shell fish pretty the whole menu was n the years it’s been open . There’s outside seating bar seating and a dining room in the back where you can see the open kitchen prepare some great dishes.

Not the best, but okay

By afelric1 |

This restaurant is right on the corner of my block. I've had the shrimp, burger, and other things there and they were simply okay. I would expect their seafood to be through the roof delicious but my family and I didn't experience that. They have really good and interesting nachos! But I assume if you just got the mussels you'd be impressed.

Great food and great service at a reasonable price

By frostedd |

This restaurant was close to home (at some point) and really delivers. The buffalo wings are perfectly cooked and perfectly sauced. The mussels are cooked in some pretty amazing sauces and spices as well. Complementary bread for dipping in marinara sauce. I have eaten here about ten times, once I had ordered fish and chips- upon delivery to the table I was about to begin eating when the waiter paused and stated that he just remembered there was even fresher fish available as of that day. He returned the plate and came back ten minutes later with another one. Honest waitstaff and great food. Would come back 100 times over.

Better dinner elsewhere

By Pansy B |

Went for dinner with my family the service was good, food flavor was tasty but the shrimp was small/poor quality, over cooked and tough, the mussels not meaty at all. Had gone a couple months earlier and was much better....maybe an off night.??? Disappointed.

Expected better....

By 7Lisal |

This place is fairly good for a local place. We had a variety of appetizers. The grilled octopus was okay. It didn't have that nice smoky char that you expect, but it was tasty. The Saganaki was also good. The star on the menu is obviously the mussels. They serve them in a large steamer and you get about a pound and a quarter. You can get them as an appetizer to share or get them as your entrée. They come in a variety of preparations. You can get classic garlic and wine or fra diavolo. The two that we liked best were the Maine mussels which were prepared with bacon and the Bisque style which had large chunks of lobster and a touch of cream. The mussels are on the small side but after 1 1/2 pounds you can get full especially if you soak up the sauce with bread. By the way the bread was not great. It seemed cold and stale. It would have been better if it had been warm and toasty. The pasta with shrimp scampi was okay and the filet of salmon was decent. Food was okay but a little pricey. Service was good and the space in back is spacious. It can be a little noisy.

Great local restaurant

Went back to this restaurant for a second time this past Friday evening with my husband, We had 8:00 reservations but showed up at 7:40. Our table wasn't available so we had a drink at the bar. We didn't get half way through our drinks when our table became available. We ordered appetizers and dentrees and ate the delicious bread while we waited. We both had salad for apps and both enjoyed. Just the right amount of dressing and portion size. I ordered paella and it was yummy. The rice came with olives and I loved it that way. My husband ordered a spicy whole red snapper. He loved his dish too so much so that he posted a picture of just the bones of the fish left on FB. We didn't order dessert cause we were just too full. It was an excellent meal. Only wish it was just closer to where we live. BTW, there were still people waiting for tables when we left.

Nice looking but disappointing food at premium pricing

By Frank C |

I have been at this restaurant twice over the last year and really wanted to like it given its nice decor and unique seafood menu. However, I found the food just mediocre given the premium pricing.

Imo best seafood I've ever had..

By Antonio M |

This restaurant was amazing. The staff was super friendly and the food even better.. Prices were extremely reasonable. The food was super fresh and the presentation was spot on.. My first visit to the restaurant has guaranteed many more.

Excellent Mussels and Clams

By JackieBG7 |

Enjoyed 2 different types of mussels for dinner with friends. They were tender and broth was delicious. We absolutely loved the beer battered clams. Service was very good and attentive. They allowed us to linger.

Nice restaurant a little too expensive

By Susan S |

We had dinner here about a month ago. Food was good, service good but thought it was a little pricey. Oysters were very fresh and delicious. We were there for a early dinner on a Saturday and it was not crowed. When we were leaving the restaurant had people waiting for tables. Would recommend reservations.
