Let me start with how good the service is here, clean, friendly and professional. I was indecisive on what to get but my server Christopher which he was phenomenal recommended me the New York steak. The steak was so juicy and very well cooked. I got the margarita and that completed my day. If I could give more start I would, I had a great experience, I’m coming back

Very relaxed place to eat with a good selection on the menu. Good seating in- and outdoors with helpful staff and good services. Dinner was good, we had a good time!

My wife and I dined at Mustangs and Burros the other night for our anniversary and were overwhelmingly satisfied with our service as well as our food! Our server, Chris, recommended the New York Strip and the Chicken Mole, both were brilliant and had a unique, robust flavor profile. The steak was savory with a nice kick from the chile negro sauce while the chicken mole was sweet and spicy from the delicious chocolate mole sauce it is topped with. The manager, Georges, came to greet us at our table with a welcoming smile and positive attitude. Dining on the patio in the evening was such a treat! The property is beautiful and surrounded with greenery! My wife loved the space and the property so much we will most likely be staying here in the near future! Thank you again Chris and Georges for the amazing service!

Loved our dining experience at this restaurant! Great food, great music, and would definitely recommend to anyone visiting San Diego. Nicole was extremely helpful and attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed.

I had dinner with my wife before a play at the La Jolla Play House. The service was terrible. The dinning room was loud and the chairs uncomfortable. I had the Short rib tacos and my wife had the Quinoa Salad. Both were ok. The drinks were average, but the prices expensive. Their computer crashed, so our dinner order was significantly delayed because the kitchen could not process the orders. Rarely saw our server. Won't be back.

Nicole did an excellent job! She made good recommendations and as very attentive and had a bubbly personality.

If they ask if you'd like to start with the chips and guac - just say yes! Don't hesitate! They are soooo good. We had a happy hour visit last weekend and it was a great experiance. Our server, Nicole, was amazing. Very friendly and extremely helpful with tips on the area and on the food/craft beer. Thanks for taking care of us, Nicole! They have a really good selection of local craft beer and wines. Other than the chips, we ordered the fish tacos which were so fresh and good. The vibe is very relaxing and warm. If I had to say anything less than stellar it would be that the happy hour menu doesn't have enough food specials on it, but that is not a huge deal. We will definitely be back!

Both times I went were after work during the summer. The food was really good BUT not a big selection. The happy hour is really good but again - more selection needed. The place is not super busy and is lovely sitting outside. Looks like would be cozy inside with the fireplace!

My colleagues and I enjoyed a leisurely dinner in pleasant surroundings. We opted for the small plates and were not disappointed.

We stopped by for desert and coffee. Altho they were busy, they found us a seat on the patio. Cool night but heaters did the trick. Fireplace going, ambiance was great.

First night while staying in the hotel we went there and found it loud , with poor acoustics, uncomfortable furniture, so we left. Being a captive audience , next night we went much earlier and it was much more quiet. Somewhat of a Western Pub atmosphere for lack of a better description. We found decent house wine prices and about the best restaurant atmosphere in the hotel which I suppose is damning with faint praise (but not too faint) as a saving grace there was a wonderful turkey burger and good service. Next night still noisy but still best in hotel, and still great turkey burgers.

We have been to this bar 4x this month and every time has been great! It is on the Estancia Hotel property. Great food even late at night. Bravo to Vanessa who is top notch!

The small plates were more than enough for a dinner. I had the duck enchilada once, and my wife had it twice. The wines were a bit on the expensive side, but excellent. The atmosphere both inside and outside is great - both have fireplaces. Service was very helpful. We had a disabled guest one night, and the server couldn't have been more attentive or helpful.

We had a wonderful experience at Mustangs and Burros! Loved the live music, the food was delicious, and Alberto took very good care of us and gave great recommendations.

We sat outside near the fireplace. The service was exquisite... Yvonne was a delight!. The food was amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better meal or experience. Thank you!

The food is delicious! We've eaten the beet salad, caesar salad, sea bass, filet mignon,, and the yummy desserts. You can eat in the patio or inside.

After being told bar would not open until 5 we waited only to find they were not serving anything but drinks (no food or appetizers) and we were sent to the hotel restaurant bar which was small and tables not bussed and we finally left. These guys need to update their info an all their websites as Burros is now just a drinks bar

Had an amazing dinner with my boyfriend to celebrate our two year anniversary, Valentine’s Day, and my birthday! Jose was so kind an hilarious, Elian was the best food runner, Evan and Henry had great recommendations, Corey prepared the best drinks, and Eric was super friendly and attentive. The best service I’ve ever experienced and the food was worth every penny. Thank you to all here at Mustangs and Burros!

This place is good for dinner at the resort but even better for drinks. They have a really good selection of fine Whisky, Tequila and Bourbon. And of course Wine! The bartenders are kind and attentive too!

Fanatic lunch. Empanadas and salad after a hike to the beach. Solid tequila selection. Jen was pleasant surprise - Boston transplant who knows her tequila and best cuisine in San Diego

The hospitality was warm. Great ambience. Delicious food from different regions.. Enjoyed the time spent

I had an absolutely phenomenal experience at the mustangs and burros restaurant the other night. Nicole my hostess was as lovely as they come giving me the full menu rundown and making me feel so very welcome. Additionally, my server Eric was exceptional and answered all the questions I had regarding the menu. All in all a lovely dining experience and will return as soon as I can!

We ate dinner on the outdoor patio of Mustangs and Burros. The patio is lovely and we were fortunate to have a warm night to sit outside. The food we ate was very good but the service was extremely slow. We didn't see our waiter for 30 minutes at a time... waiting for food to arrive or drink orders to be taken and drinks to be delivered. That was the only drawback. And the restaurant was not crowded.

Delicious appetizers, great service. Elegant ambience overall. Acoustic guitar some nights, romantic fireplaces.

We found the food to be very creative and nicely prepared. We are semi-vegetarians so can't say anything about the meats, but the fish dishes and salads we had were excellent.

We where family of 6 people, food was great and everyone liked it. Our kids were very happy also. It's a big selection of food and everyone can find something that they like.

This is one of the restaurants at the Estancia hotel in La Jolla. It is well laid out with indoor and outdoor seating. The waiting staff were friendly and efficient. Food was good and the prices reasonable. If you are staying at the Estancia, you will not regret eating here. There are no restaurants within walking distance from the hotel, so unless you have a car or take a taxi, the hotel restaurants are your only choice.

Thank you for your recommendations for dinner and for your quick and excellent service. I recommend you all go see Alberto.

My family and I had dinner at Mustangs and Burros. We brought our two dogs with our party of four. Our waiter, Henry, suggested some phenomenal appetizers - burrata salad, chips and guac and poke tostados. For dinner we had a variety of recommended selections - Halibut plate, Fish Tacos and Shrimp Tacos and then finished it with the BEST Tres Leches dessert! Their Pimm’s cup cocktail was fantastic as well. The food runners Talon and Drake was very attentive as well. They were efficient and cleared our empty plates quickly as Henry refreshed our cocktails. George, the supervisor came over and checked on us and we had a great conversation about traveling abroad. The evening was made even more pleasant by the live singer and guitarist who gladly sang my favorite song request “Tennessee Whiskey” and created an ensemble with another table’s request. What a great, relaxing atmosphere and experience! It is rare that we have had such excellent service in a very long time! Kudos to Mustangs and Burros for having such great, attentive staff that make guests feel like we are enjoying dinner “in the backyard”. Thank you for a lovely evening!

We wanted a nice non traditional Holiday Donner. This was quant and warm and cozy atmosphere. Food was grand.

Recently went here for my father’s birthday. Started our night at the bar in the restaurant, and was happily greeted by the bartender named Cory. Not only were the drinks amazing but he was extremely personable and funny as well. That was followed by dinner with our server, Christopher, who was extremely kind and attentive. A woman named Nicole made sure our night was extremely special and catered to us. She checked in on us multiple times to make sure everything was great and that we didn’t need anything. Not to mention, we had been here before and the staff was kind enough to remember our familiar faces. We enjoyed the delicious birra tacos and shrimp and scallop dish. Highly recommend both and will most definitely be coming back! (Also happened to get all three deserts and could not decide on a favorite because they were all amazing and of course featured a candle and singing)

We had a wonderful evening with friend! Food was delicious and our service from Alberto was excellent!

We are staying here at the Estancia resort and went to this restaurant for dinner last night. Both of our dinners were served to us COLD. We sent them back. My husbands meal came back and hot in about 10 minutes. He ate the entire meal while I waited for mine to come back. After 20 minutes we complained to someone because no one came by to ask us how things were. It still took another 10 minutes before I got my meal. How inconsiderate of the waiter, the kitchen staff and even the manager. Don't waste your time here because the menu is very short with few choices.

After walking 12,000 steps at UCSD Triton day and Sunset Cliff walk, Mustangs & Burros was exactly what the foot doctor ordered. It was a lovely outdoor dining area, but it was a bit chilly, so we asked for the table next to the fireplace. It had been reserved by another for 7 pm, but it was 5:15, so they sat us there. Casual decor, but really amazing food. The short ribs and fish tacos were really good. The broccoli soup was to-die for, as was the rigatoni with a vegetable sauce. The wait staff was excellent (efficient, good timing and welcoming). We will definitely go back.

We had Alberto and he was super attentive and knowledgeable with the menu. My husband took his suggestion and loved it. I wished I had taken it too! Overall great experience and Alberto made it so much better. Will be coming back!

The entire staff was very friendly and had great conversatoins at the bar. Nicole, my bartender was awesome in drink and food selections

Although Mustangs and Burros was located only feet from my hotel room, I'd be delighted to saddle up my horse and mosey quite a ways to get the kind of grub they served me. The seafood was delicious, the beverages were wet, and the service was promptly attentive without becoming overbearing. I would be delighted to eat there again.

Amazing craft cocktails and small plates. Relaxing ambiance, beautiful firepit. Highly recommend the Bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer.

Great service and food! Our server Alberto Bernal did an amazing job! Great drinks as well. Looking forward to coming back

We were trying to find a place for a late dinner after flying in on a late flight. We enjoyed the Fish Tacos and chips and salsa. All very delicious!! We had great service as well!! We enjoyed sitting outside with a warm heater near our table! We definitely recommend!

Cool place to get a couple of drinks and hang out in a low key but nice setting. It's easy to get too and a fun place to be.

Great apps and great entrees with pretty fantastic drinks to follow! The Estancia Mule hits the mark every time! Even had the former Vice President Al Gore in the room following Symphony at Salk recently. The patio with its fireplace is a fantastic setting - fish tacos or tuna?

Really nice ambient and terrific service. The menu is limited. We had the crispy Brussel sprouts Which were very good! I had the salmon ($37) on a bed of quinoa with colored cauliflower. The description didn’t mention cilantro but there was plenty in the quinoa so I was disappointed because I don’t eat cilantro. My husband had the fish tacos ($21) which he said were very good. We shared a flan ($12) and it was very large and delicious. Our table wobbled which was distracting and splashed our drinks every time we moved. Not terrible place but could be improved with some attention the detail.

We had a crazy week and just wanted to get away for a few days and stayed at Estancia and had dinner this first night here. Sat outside which is always good for us. Irash(sp) was our server and he was terrific. My wifes drink was off and they replaced it quickly. My Old Fashion was perfect. Simple dinner of a burger and some tacos which were very good. But the capper was that I had recently had a heart valve replacement and they brough us two glass of champagne with a toast of "to Life!" Amazing

My friends and I did a staycation at the Estancia and had dinner at Mustangs and Burros. Our food was delicious and the service was spectacular. Henry, our waiter, was attentive, funny, and had great recommendations. We would definitely dine here again.

With two strikes against this restaurant (the name and the fact that it is a hotel restaurant) I was not expecting a whole lot in the way of food--boy, was I wrong! They have the best guacamole and hot sauce that I have ever tasted in San Diego! The corn soup is to die for! The service was outstanding---this restaurant is truly a gem hidden in plain sight!!!!!

Great food. Great drinks. Great service. Alberto was our server and his recommendations for both food and drinks were spot on.

Wonderful server, Alberto Benay! He went above and beyond. Sea scallops were phenomenal! Overall great Anniversary dinner. A little overpriced but love the ambiance and service!

We sat outside on the patio and it is a nice environment. Big fireplace, lots of groupings of tables all on a brick patio that is surrounded by trees/foliage and nicely lit. It is a beautiful place. The tables are small and low - the effect is like a coffee-table. Seating is pretty varied - benches with cushions, comfortable chairs, love seats, etc. Food - we had the street tacos and nachos. A little pricey but good. Come for the ambiance. Enjoy the food and drink (extensive craft beer menu). This would be terrific for a small group. My wife said it would be great if we had something like this in our neighborhood. That's the kind of feel it has. Oh, and free valet parking.

Excellent meals, extremely friendly staff. Nice seating options. great for a romantic dinner or meeting friends for cocktails.

Ate several meals here and the service/food was great. Very enjoyable setting. The menu had a lot of variety. I liked the salmon but they had lots of beef and soups.

The food is priced too high for the quality, in my opinion. The staff is very friendly but we just were not impressed with the food...especially for the price.

Great indoor or outdoor seating, with log fires lit, and beautiful lighting. Food was good, but a fairly limited choice. Desserts were excellent. Good service.

I’ve been here a few times now and it’s become a go-to spot of ours. A few weeks ago I had family in town & they’re still talking about it! Our server Vanessa gave some tasty recommendations when asked & made the already awesome experience that much better. They also have a great happy hour that I’ve enjoyed a time or two ;)

We had the nachos with chicken, Salmon, Beet Salad, burger, mac & cheese, chicken strips, everything was meh. Dining al fresco was nice for a summer night and fire place added romance. Candles provide nice floral scent. Service was ok.

Ivan is an excellent server and we thoroughly enjoyed our entrees. The atmosphere outside was the perfect setting and the music was lovely as well. As locals, we will definitely be back for more!

Mustangs & Burros has good food with friendly service people. The restaurant is laid back and very comfortable. The patio is beautiful and has a lovely atmosphere and great fire place. The salmon with mushrooms, green beans and whipped potatoes is excellent. We felt very welcome and appreciated as customers. Will definitely return.

Was dining alone so enjoyed a small meal at the bar. Bartender was very friendly and had good knowledge of menu. The indoor area is comfortable and the outdoor seating is relaxing and beautiful. Enjoyed the duck enchiladas!

The octopus appetizer was amazing followed by two phenomenal entrees. The hanger steak was perfectly cooked and the salmon was delivered so hot and perfect. We will be returning!! Thank you Christopher for the wonderful service!

While staying at the Estancia Resort in La Jolla, I stopped in at the bar at Mustangs and Burros for quick bite and glass of wine. I ordered the Pork Sopes and a glass of Malbec. Neither we disappointing. The Sopes (as an appetizer) had a mixed taste of fresh crisp vegetables and sweet smoked pork with the sauce complimenting both. The service was very attentive and friendly.

they have a happy hour menu Mon-fri 4-6pm and its $6 wines and $5 off every food item.yes they have the whole menu available from apps to entrees and each dish was $5 off. lovely food. We went twice for dinner.

We have eaten here many times as we also stay at the hotel a couple of times a year. They treat us like VIPs and when we arrive late after our show at LA Jolla Playhouse it doesn't matter what time we are treated well. Drinks are great especially their house margarita that goes along with some great chips and guacamole!

I had a wonderful experience at the Hidden Feather for a large business dinner I was hosting. Georges was extremely professional and accommodating of all of our needs and our server Justin was amazing - waiting on an entire table of 18 people flawlessly. The room and grounds were extremely beautiful with personal touches like name cards and a cozy fire place. All of my guests were blown away by the quality of the space and food and we will definitely be returning for future events.

My boyfriend and I came to celebrate Valentine’s Day and it was wonderful. All the food was so delicious and there was live music when we went on Friday night. Arash was a lovely sever.

A early Sunday evening dinner. Very nice dinner music playing in background. Waiter was very attentive and helpful in suggestions. Prompt service, but not rushed. Food was really good, especially the cumin roasted skirt steak.

A great Valentine's Day date night with my wife. Great food (birria tacos and New York strip steak). Great espresso martinis. Thanks for your service Eric.

We enjoyed our dinner and lunch at Mustangs & Burros. Great service and nice outside tables under the stars. Outside and inside fireplaces with a good bar. They also have gluten free selections.

Even if you are not staying at the resort, make a point to seek out the restaurant. The adobe style atmosphere is charming. The service was excellent. The food was spectacular. Try the pulled pork Mac and cheese or the curried flank steak...all are worth your time. Good selection of wines from around the world. I choose one from Argentina and it was superb.

We had dinner here while staying at the Estancia. Having not had a burger in awhile, I ordered one and it was awesome. Loved the pretzel bun, fresh beef, and the fact that it was cooked to perfection. Fries were excellent as well. Others who dined with me loved their meals too and the ambiance of the restaurant. Even if you're not staying at the hotel/spa, it's worth visiting this restaurant.

Excellent service by Alberto! Best service ever. Amazing food, great music overall amazing vibe. Great for a date! Highly recommend!

We dined at mustangs and burros last weekend for my moms birthday celebration. The atmosphere was delightful. They had a musician playing on the patio which was a treat. We sat inside by the big beautiful fire place which was very cozy on a cool night. We shared chips and guacamole and octopus which were both delicious and great for sharing. I had the chicken mole which was delicious and had half a fish taco which was very filling. Our waiter Alberto was so generous and attentive. He was fantastic! Top notch service. We would definitely come back!

I visited Mustangs & Burros with my daughter for dinner. The staff were very friendly and attentive. My margarita was the best I've ever had. Dinner was delicious but dessert was pure heaven! I had the vanilla creme brûlée. It was amazing! I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a nice dinner. It was a little pricey but a delicious treat!

I have traveled all over the world and can honestly say the only time I can remember having worse service was in Rome years ago. I was thirsty the whole meal and never seen our waiter until the check. I had to ask for a refill. Not good.

If you go and the weather isn't too hot, definitely ask for 1 of the 2 tables outside by the fireplace.

Here is great place for beer on tap, large selection of wines by the glass and a professional mixologist for just about any kind of cocktail you might want. Many good appetizers, snacks and tapas kind of goodies. Small bar but cozy with lots of high tables/stools around the bar area. Excellent outside patio again with large fireplaces and fun atmosphere. Good for couples, parties or business meetings too.

Came in from out of town and met up with some college friends we hadn’t seen in years. They couldn’t have picked a more perfect place; the fresh air, ambiance, food, the bartender (that rum drink was delicious), and the server Vanessa was a jewel. We asked questions about dishes and she had the answers. We all had such a great time I’m sure we’re going to make this our go-to dinner and drinks place.

Very pleasant dining experience, with opportunities to eat indoors or on a roofed and low-walled outdoor terrace with gas fireplace. Broad selection of appetizers that ranged from octopus to pork bellly to salad; food choices ranged from a tomahawk steak--the most expensive item on the menu--to pork shank, chicken and various fish entrees (probably also vegetarian, but I wasn't looking for that and don't recall). Very good flan for dessert. The wine list is reasonably comprehensive, and compllements the food very well, with all availablle by the bottle and some good, but not unreasonably expensive, wines available by the glass. The bartender (there is a small indoor bar) was quick and knew his business, the wait staff very attentive.

Had a great dinner experience here during our stay at the resort for our honeymoon. The tacos were great and their spicy margarita is really good. Our server Alberto B. was really friendly and always checked in on us.

Came out with my girlfriends visiting out of town and a family friend suggested M&B so we made a reservation and came in. The property of the hotel is beautiful and we can’t wait to come back and see all the improvements once construction is complete. The hostess was very kind and seated us at a beautiful table by the fire. Our server Chris was very friendly and accommodating and suggested splitting a couple appetizers, the cauliflower frito and guacamole (delicious!!) with a mouth watering tomahawk steak. Everything was so great and the musician playing was amazing too! I would definitely recommend coming to try Mustangs and Burros if you’re local or visiting, the whole team is awesome, the environment is beautiful, and the food is wonderful! Thank you Mustangs and Burros team!

Food and Service were wonderful. Thankful after terrible service that caused us to leave another place.

Everything was really good, except for the ceviche. We had margaritas, moscow mules, and the nachos. We decided to try the ceviche and were really disappointed. It was $14 for a small plate of baby shrimp. Not a real authentic ceviche.

enjoyed a strawberry rum cocktail with a new bartender. she did great. There were 5 custom drink specials and I didn't recognize them so I had to ask for a couple explanations before I picked the one I chose. Beer was on sale. There were several appetizers to choose from. They have a menu just for happy hour. MS. FELIX $1 off for happy hour had: Rum, Coconut Water, Strawberry-Chile de Arbol Syrup Enjoy. Cheers.

Wonderful place to eat !! Great outdoor patio with oversized fireplace, delicious food and excellent service ! Indoor dining area is a bit small and darker, I recommend the outdoor patio.

Tomahawk steak is definitely worth the money. Birria tacos were really good as well. Great environment with fun live music! Would recommend.

Mustangs and burros was a great choice for my friends and I, we loved the decoration , it was a total different experience, food and drinks were excellent and Devon was amazing, we are definitely coming back! (6 stars)

Our room at Estancia La Jolla was not quite ready so we called into Mustangs for a glass of wine. The staff were confused and appeared to be very busy but the place was almost empty. We were disappointed with the wine selection and fascinated by the staff who went back and forth without actually doing anything. Unfortunately this first impression meant we did not come back during our stay at Estancia.

I was here for a conference and they had a taco bar. The table was beautifully set in the courtyard and there was a basket of tortilla chips, two kinds of salsas and guacamole on the tables. If it's cold get there early so you can sit by the fireplace.

When ordering dinner, stop at the hamburgers! Maybe you won't have to wait for your entree for an hour. Or be disappointed that the Crab & Shrimp Chile Relleno ($28.00) is a lonely little pepper on a plate without any of what the menu described as accompanying it. Not to mention that the crab and shrimp was barely there. Or be disappointed that the Rib Eye ($33.00) arrived with a cold parsnip puree about the size of a teaspoon , no cippoline or roasted shallots, as per the menu. Or the other order of Rib Eye which was half the size, had no bone and was plated no better then Denny's. Did I mention the bottle of wine? First we had to ask for the wine list. Then the waiter proceeded to pour the wine before the host was given the opportunity to taste it. After pouring, the waiter placed the bottle next to a lighted candle. Nice touch if you like warm wine. It's hard to say what the problem was the evening we were there, The space is very pleasant the outside patio especially pleasant, but the operation deserves a major overhaul in terms of food and service. For the price and ambition of the memu you can do much better in many other La Jolla restaurants.

Funny, my wife and I were looking for a nice Mexican restaurant in La Jolla, and the best one that was nice and sit-down was Mustangs and Burros. The food is unique and very good, servers decent, and atmosphere nice with the outside area having interesting seating around a large fire. Tough to rate this a 5 star, but certainly worth a few trips if you're staying at the hotel, and even if you're staying in La Jolla you may want to come for a meal

This is one of my favorite places to eat. It is casual and has the best bartenders who are always coming up with new drinks and fun conversation. They make it look easy when a large group shows up. The food is fantastic and sophisticated without being too pricey. I have had at least 15 meals there and I have never had something I did not care for. Two thumbs up!

Located on the grounds of La Estancia Hotel this little joint is a great place to catch lunch or dinner. Great drinks and the staff is very friendly.

My husband and I’s dining experience at Mustangs and Burros was outstanding. Nicole greeted our table. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and had great recommendations. Our server, Henry, was also exceptional and recommended adding shrimp to our octopus app which was so good!

Menu is somewhat limited and really expensive for what you get in my opinion. Service is relatively slow, soup was warm, barely, certainly not hot. Portions pretty small for price, especially the fish tacos.

Loved this restaurant. The outdoor patio was one of my fav experiences at the hotel. A few more vegan options on the menu would be a wonderful improvement BUT staff helped us with what was available and the meal was great. Prices are high and reservations might help during high times, but we were accomodated as a walk-in an hour before closing on a Tuesday night without a problem.

I came here for Happy Hour after a few co-workers convinced me to go and wow, so glad that I did. From the hostess welcoming me in, seating me outdoors, very friendly server but the best part other than the ambience was the delicious food. I would love to come back to try the tomahawk that everyone raved about. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

We enjoyed the happy hour. Thanks to the suggestion of our waitress, we only ordered the half portion of the chicken nachos. But even the half portion was a huge serving and strangely delicious. It went well with the house chardonay I ate it with. The restaurant has a nice outside sitting. I loved that big fire place. So cozy. The 2nd time we ate here was for dinner. We loved our fish tacos and our burgers.

Wonderful dinner. Yelp found us another winner. Vanessa was delightful as our server. The staff was knowledgeable, courteous & conscientious.

What a treat to come out on the first nice evening in Southern California after a very rainy rainy winter. This place is a hidden gem! The food is great with the new chef, the ambiance absolutely charming and peaceful and beautiful. KELLY WOODRING The food and beverage manager is incredible, if there was anything that needed to be taken care of she was so on top of it, quite an impressive woman. The only thing I could say that was not 100% is occasionally the food would be a little bit on the warm side as opposed to hot but KELLY absolutely make sure that that was taken care o The only thing I could say that was not 100% is occasionally the food would be a little bit on the warm side as opposed to hot, but KELLY absolutely make sure that that was taken care of ! i’m a local and this is a place that I like to come to and just hang out great happy hour!

Almost skipped this place. Decided to dine alone and thought to give it a try since i was staying at the Estancia. Had decided to leave - having been ignored for more than 20 minutes after being seated - but then the server appeared and I was hungry and without many other options for dinner. Considering the prices it is not unreasonable to expect professional service. It seems that would exclude everyone here except the bartender and perhaps the bus service and dishwashers. Further, for the price you would expect better fare. The food is slightly better than average. . Quaint atmosphere though. Nice big outdoor fireplace. Feels odd to be seated for dinner at a low lounge table though. Ceviche served in unconventional dish-ware with a huge fork, making it overall an awkward and uncomfortable experience. For that they should consider discounting for the inconvenience.

My wife and I took my Mom there for lunch on Sunday. It was a beautiful warm San Diego winter day so we sat outside. The fireplace was going and and the surroundings could not be more pleasant and the service was first-rate. The downside was the food. Maybe it is just that we were there lunch, but the menu was very limited. Considering how expensive it was, the food was just average. In fact, my Mom's fish tacos were dry and she ended up sending them back. They took them off our bill, but it was a poor culinary showing. If you are going for the ambiance, or maybe just for drinks, I would recommend it. If you are going for the food, there are better places.

Great food, nice atmosphere, excellent service (ask for Christopher). Located at the charming Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa

Loved Mustangs & Burros, which is located in the beautiful Estancia Hotel in La Jolla. The setting is rustic elegance and the full bar has some very good tequila and mezcal options along with anything else you could want. The duck enchiladas were amazing as were the nachos (different evening). The staff is attentive and friendly. Easy parking using the valet off the lobby. All would feel welcome here. Plus there is a romantic fire pit and outdoor tables just off the restaurant.

We ate here a couple of times during our stay at the Estancia. The atmosphere at night here is magical. A large outdoor fireplace and strings of lights create a beautiful southern California ambiance that we really enjoyed. Food is good and I can't say enough about the friendly wait staff.

Food was excellent. There was taco Tuesday and we were there on Tuesday. Unfortunately we were not that hungry so ordered appetizer, and those made us full, those were right amount with drinks. Glad didn't order main dish.

Several of us had their Barrel Aged Estancia Mule. Never was one for craft cocktails but this one did the trick. Great flavor.

Fabulous experience. Great service. Excellent food. Nice Ambiance. The trifecta. Chris was an excellent server. Great conversation and good at his craft.

The food in this restaurant is very good. You can sit inside or outside where a large fireplace keeps things warm.

A nice place to stay and eat dinner alone or not alone. Has a big fireplace where you can be warmed on a cold day and staff that's willing to help you voluntarily in multiple fields. The food is also satisfying. However, there is very minimal to absolutely no internet connecting in that area. I believe any 'modernized' person would want to have lunch or dinner in a place with Internet connection.

Disappointing as menu lured us in with interestingly worded choices. Chicken and vegetable soup (one served hot, the other lukewarm) came in an unsuitably shaped bowl that made it hard to avoid the server from splashing it when poured from the jug. Soup taste was good though peppery. A crab salad was alright but the crab was almost certainly tinned/canned/frozen. A turkey burger was poor and served with fries that were barely warm Perhaps this was an off night?

The food is to die for! The blue corn muffins came first; the only “meh” thing we tasted... pretty dry, bland and sweet but then had a few share plates of scallops, octopus, & shrimp ceviche... all amazing & flavorful....wow! Then we had the achiote tacos that needed a little more achiote flavor and the skirt steak, which was the best thing we’ve eaten in a long time. The service started out very attentive then not so much as service got busier. We had to wait a very, very long time for our check but we observed that our server was very overwhelmed. The ambiance was so relaxing & most of the food exceptional so we’ll be back.

The food was amazing but the service was even better. Our server, Arash, went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great experience!

My group and I had an amazing dinner time at Mustangs and Burros. Ivan was our server. Very helpful answering our questions related to allergies and diet restrictions. He helped us try out Baja wines and helped explain them to us. I would definitely visit back again with my colleagues. Scallops and chicken mole is a must try

We came for my birthday dinner and the ambiance, service, and food were remarkable! They made everything enjoyable from moment we arrived. Everyone greeted us warmly, we were served timely, and even received a bday dessert and hand-written card to top it all off! This was so special and our server Eric made it beyond memorable for us. We can’t wait to come back again soon! Thank you!!

This place was awesome! Our server Arash, was so attentive and kind, the food was delicious and the live music was fantastic!

Had dinner here on a Sunday night. Live guitar set the mood for a beautiful evening. Try the crab and shrimp relleno. The initial appearance is nothing fancy, but when the flavors hit the tongue you know why this place has such a reputation among locals. Perfect pairing of an equally surprising wine. So glad I found it and well worth the price!

Our party of 4 stopped in for a light dinner after attending the Green Flash concert at the Birch Aquarium. Although the outdoor patio was crowded at that late hour, our hostess made sure we had plenty of room and a lovely table. Our waitress Jen was fantastic. She made accurate and honest menu assessments and was quick to respond to every request. One member of our party is Canadian and always asks for gravy for his French fries. Most food servers roll their eyes at this. Jen made sure the kitchen whipped up some gravy just for him. The ambiance, the food and the service were all top notch. Highly recommended.

Excellent service by Alberto Bernal. Very attentive and always checked in to make sure we enjoyed drinks and food (yes to both) and to see if we needed anything else.

I had a light dinner at Mustangs & Burros because I was staying in Estancia La Jolla--the hotel and spa where the restaurant is located. It's a bar with a nice outside terrace and pleasant inside atmosphere, too. I had the duck enchiladas, which were delicious, and a very good (albeit expensive) margarita. Service was very good.

The atmosphere is nice but the selection of feed very limited and very pricey. There are better options in La Jolla with great views of the water and larger selections.

Fresh salads and empanadas Double Barrel Herradua Tequila Especial to the Estancia la Jolla Friendly, attentive service Jen was spectacular sever and tequila aficionado 5 Star

We had several appetizers and all were great especially the ceviche. The location outside was awesome. The staff were great. The lava cake was amazing

This place is attached to the Estancia hotel that I stayed at during a business trip. The atmosphere here is amazing. I sat outside and it's a beautiful property. The service is adequate. Food was mediocre. Given the cost, it's really not worth it. If your company is paying for it, it softens the blow.

Plus: Great outdoor atmosphere, low tables, lounge chairs and benches, dimmed lighting. They have a great selection of beer, wine, and other alcoholic beverages. Minus: However, we're not impressed with their food. We tried the chips with guacamole as an appetizer, a mixed salad with goat cheese and berries, and a pork dish. None of the dishes tasted fresh or flavorful, and we were a bit disappointed.

Great place for a dinner with loved ones! Yummy food and cocktails. Christopher was great! It is set in a cute secret garden. We will be returning for other special events.

First night while staying at the hotel ( just arrived) we went here and found it loud , with poor acoustics, uncomfortable furniture, so we left. Being a close to captive audience , next the night we went much earlier, and it was much quieter. We found decent house wine prices and about the best restaurant atmosphere in the hotel, which I suppose is damning with faint praise ... but as a saving grace there was a wonderful turkey burger and good service. Next night still noisy but still best in hotel, and still great turkey burgers. Not many dining choices in this area fir early diners. Oh well!

We book reservations at Mustang & Burro's both Friday and Saturday night. Jose was our lovely sever who took great care of us friday. Flautas were amazing big portion- easy to share. The Octopus Tacos were blasting with flavor, and the Cochinita Pork dish tasted like it had been marinating for days, and the bowl was easy to eat out of or build into tacos, again great portion size. Saturday during the day Jose again helped us at the pool! We highly recommend the small splurge into purchasing a day bed. More privacy, with guarantee lounging and bean bag chairs off to the side to relax in the sun, with a fully loaded fridge. Saturday Arash served us and was phenomenal with anticipating our needs before we even asked. We highly recommend the salmon dish as well! Pim is the manager of this well run restaurant and she made sure to check on us the entire weekend, both dinners and the pool. She sure knows how to personalize and make each guest feel special.

This restaurant is located in a separate small building behind a hotel decorated in a rustic decor. We were seated right next to the door and the lighting was so dim that it was hard to see the menu. I was expecting a fairly upscale restaurant but most of the offerings were sandwiches or burgers with a fairly limited selection of entrees. We did find a decent wine and the food and service were fine. We had been on the road all day and when I ventured off to the restroom, which was in its own separate building, I somehow got locked in and had to text message my family to send help.

Great drinks! Ivan did a great job and was very kind! The patio was very nice to enjoy appetizers and drinks. The atmosphere was relaxing and fun!

We ate here on our first night at the hotel and enjoyed a very good meal and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Whilst we ate inside we could hear the music provided by Flagship Romance and this added something extra special. The seating area outside were cosy and welcoming with fires and fire pits.

M&B never fails to satisfy! The staff at Estancia's Mustangs & Burros is simply fantastic! The Management at the Resort itself are consistently slow to respond to emails (a week delay is not unusual) and voice mails go ignored on a regular basis - but the restaurant and other staff is terrific!

My family stayed at the Estancia la Jolla from 7/21/16 to 7/24/16, and one of the dining options is Mustangs and Burros. We went there for dinner our first night because we thought it would be good quality, convenient and it didn't look too crowded. We waited to be seated but no one came around even though it didn't look that busy. Finally my wife had to flag down a server to get seated. Once we were seated we waited around for a while without an offers for water or bread and no menus. The waitress came back and asked us if we were ready to order. We pointed out that we had no menus, no water, and no bread. She apologized and went to rectify the problem. Meanwhile our 1 and 2 year olds are getting fussy. At this point we just want to get our kids fed, so we order quickly after we get the menus and rush through dinner before the kids get too cranky. We get our bill, which came out to around $40. I give the waitress my card and she runs it. When I get it back to sign, it was run for $137.25. I go to the waitress and point out that there's clearly a mistake. She said she accidentally ran another party's bill on my card and ran my card again for the $39.96. She also reassures me that the $137.25 will not go through since I didn't sign for it. I sign for $45 (adding tip). A couple days later, I see my card is charged for the $45 and for $160. I of course dispute the $160 with my card company, but as of yet the dispute has not been settled. In my review of the hotel, I left a less detailed account of this dining experience. I'm posting this new review specific to the restaurant since my credit card dispute has not been settled yet, even though it should be a simple process to just remove the erroneous charge.

Eat outdoors when possible. Atmosphere is so relaxing and charming. Food is excellent. Have enjoyed this spot at least five times.

This is the best spot for a date night, it feels secluded and so romantic. The birria tacos were delicious & the service was amazing. It really is a hiden gem in SD!

Visited Mustang’s & Burro’s with some friends this past weekend & had a great time. Eric took care of us & recommended some great apps. Loved the octopus , and got to enjoy the last tomahawk available for that night. Food was amazing! Service was great. Never needed to ask for refills on beverages as our server was very attentive. He even surprised us with a birthday dessert. Will make sure to visit again soon!

10/10 - Great food! Great drink recommendations by Arash. He was a pleasure to have as a server and they were very accommodating to our six month old baby.

We had dinner outside, thankfully, because the inside dining room seemed very noisy when I poked my head in. The patio is lovely and has an inviting fireplace. We had a hightop table and there was also very comfortable seating for larger parties.

We ate in doors although they have a nice outdoor seating area with a fire. Both my wife and I had steak. The food was good. They pair the drinks to alcoholic drinks which proved quite good

We recently ate at Mustangs and Burros for the first time. The atmosphere is very inviting and the menu offerings were fantastic. The wait staff was attentive. We especially enjoyed the Octopus appetizer and Cioppino. It is a very nice place to enjoy good friends and good food.

The new menu from M&B looks sublime. They have a selection of new cocktail and entrees which are amazing. I had to drink the Tequila Sour, my Boyfriend had the Maple old Fashion amazing drinks. I highly recommend their 12 oz new york steak it was amazing!

We had a terrible dining experience at a place we have enjoyed before. On our Saturday evening dining experience they only had one server for the entire indoor part of the dining room, and he was covering tables on the outdoor patio as well, possibly the only server for the entire restaurant. To say service was slow would be an understatement. In addition, it seems they must been understaffed in the kitchen as well. The Mustang salad we ordered which was to have orange slices, avocado, and other ingredients came with just the lettuces, 1 small slice of orange and no avocado, cucumber, or other accompaniments. The blazing cauliflower Shareable was also missing some of the ingredients. We would have sent each back after we discovered missing ingredients, but it would be 25-30 minutes before we could ever get the attention of our server who clearly was stressed. The menu is pricey which is fine if it represents the level of service and the food serviced, but it doesn’t.

The food seem to come from the main restaurant Adobe (or from its kitchen), but very slowly :D. I ate here until I realized that. I could not figure out the purpose of this restaurant.

The staff combined tables and accommodated us on a very busy night and we didn't have reservations. They combined tables and chairs to place us near the beautiful outdoor fireplace. Helena was awesome!

We absolutely loved this patio restaurant. Two adults and two teen boys. Everything was delicious - had the queso fundito, cheese burger (delicious!), fish taco, crab tortilla soup (amazing!), steak and salmon. We loved everything and would do it all over again. Mayne the best service of our La Jolla/San Diego vacation. Pretty lights and live music during dinner. Cactus and green plants everywhere. Felt almost like Sedona. Fantastic last dinner of our vacation!

I went to college in San Diego so when I travel to the mainland from my home on the Big Island of Hawaii, I usually stay at the Estancia Resort, and my friends from La Jolla and north San Diego county come to this restaurant to get together ! The relaxing feel to the restaurant and the fact that you can heard the person at the other end of the table makes this place our favorite meeting place ! The food is sooooooo good that I have been known to eat 2 dinners over a span of 3 hours (I never do that anywhere else) ! The wait staff is extremely friendly and attentive. Plus they have an great bartender ! You can eat outside in their heated (if it's cold) patio with a huge fireplace, all in old Spanish California style or you can eat inside where you have lots of space between tables . I have tried just about everything on the menu and, honestly, I loved all off them . It takes me 1/2 hour just to pick from their menu, an it's not a large menu ! All I can say is "Try it, you'll like it !" or like me, you'll love it !

Stopped here for an early dinner with a 4 year old in tow and was very happy with the choice. Great food and even better service. Good menu with a variety of options and great atmosphere.

Music was great with a live singer. Good food and service from Alberto B who gave some good recommendations and was attentive. Will be back.

Fantastic experience, great food, lovely ambience. Our server Chris Gonzales was awesome, as was the rest of the staff. Will definitely be back!

We had dinner at Mustangs and Burros on our last evening staying at Estancia La Jolla hotel and spa. I believe they are only open for dinner. Nevertheless the ambience was beautiful with the lovely large fireplace in the back outside. The chips and guacamole and green and red salsas were the best I have ever had… all freshly made and amazing! We all enjoyed our respective meals and vanilla gelato and churros with chocolate dipping sauce for dessert! The wait staff was very accommodating and helpful and overall it was a wonderful experience! Good job to all!

Amazing food, great service, loved the live music!! Very cozy atmosphere. Patio has heaters as well so don’t worry about being cold!
Great experience!!!
Beautiful resort! The staff is so friendly. Our bartender Odalie is exceptional!! You have a an amazing team member there. Also, our business function bartender Felipe is such a welcoming person! Thank you all!
