Cajun cookin in the NW.

By Justtravelled |

Reason the place is called My Brother's Crawfish is because the Owner's brother actually ships fresh crawfish from Louisiana. They serve a wide variety of cajun food. They always have specials on their facebook page, just make sure to mention it to get the discounts. If you love crawfish, you'll love this place. They just expanded and moved across the parking lot to a larger space. And they are also expanding to a new location in Vancouver, Wa. Pros: Crawfish, and seafood boils. Cons: That I can't eat this everyday.

A Great Little Find!

By Debbie J |

Google Map this location, it's in the back of a Strip-Mall on SE 82nd across from PCC Campus. Once we found it, we were so glad. The food is fresh, authentic, and the place was Packed Out! You can choose the "spice" level of your food and it has a fun atmosphere!

Go for the Cajun; not the atmosphere !

By bob l |

4 of us went here last weekend. Blackened chicken was pretty good; I liked the blackened catfish a little more. Lots of 'juice' in the crawfish pot; be sure to take it home. Cornbread was good. Happy hour all day on Sunday. Some good drinks on the menu. The place is a dive; limited parking; and it's kind of small, so it does fill up.

Terrible crab boil

By 609djean |

Went with 3 girlfriends for a dinner outing was looking forward to a great crab boil. But I was served a bowl full of spicey juice with no garlic or butter as I had ordered. The sausage was cut in slices (not chubs as usual for a crab boil.) and was tough the corn and potato were lost in juice. One friend had fried oysters ,she said theywere over fried and doughy and such a small serving she was still hungry. Will not go back ever.

Don't Go There Expecting Good Food or Service

By Artie S |

Worst restaurant of my experience in Portland. Hushpuppies were 4/5 max hot, strange tasting, and inedible for someone who has eaten 40 years of hush puppies in several southern states. Coleslaw was worst coleslaw I have ordered in 50 years of restaurants. Calamari was dry, from frozen and old originals, and over fried. Dungeness Crab was fresh, but too salty and too sauced. Service was the worst, server declined to give clear information and could not answer our questions. Men's room was like an unclean gas station room, unusable by men who have BPH (and you know who you are).

Great Cajun Boil

By terrywaldon |

My sister who lives here found this place. Little hole in the wall with wonderful Cajun boil. Had the King crab... wouldn't call them "kings" more like a prince size, but wonderful. Added mushrooms and potatoes... perfect. Skip the sides, dirty rice less than spectacular and others are just o.k.

OMG the Etouffee

By LAlanPDX |

One of Portland's hidden gems--if you are a fan of Cajun/creole cuisine, you absolutely cannot miss My Brother's Crawfish. These people (yes, the eponymous brothers) know how to food, and keep a friendly, cozy and authentically welcoming establishment.

Give it a pass, there's better!

By Mike R |

Absolutely horrible experience the only thing good was how much whiskey were in the whiskey sours. The fried alligator appetizer was hard with almost no alligator. The crawdad etoufee was passable but the bits of crawdad were few and far between. The cornbread was not nearly as good as store bought mixes. Had high hopes but this place is a hard pass in the future. I do know Cajun cuisine as I lived in Louisiana and Alabama.

Crawfish time!!!

By BlueBirdjourney |

Our first time here and crawfish was good. Service was good and friendly. Place was clean. Parking wasn’t bad at all. Will be back again 👍👍👍

Over cooked seafood

By Wine76 |

This humble little place in a strip mall seems to have a pretty good local following, but I did not enjoy it. Although it did have a fun vibe and energetic service, the food fell flat. I ordered the shrimp and was excited when the server asked me if I wanted the heads on, yes, please I replied. How disappointed I was when they arrived so over cooked that the brains had dissolved .....that is the best part. My dining companion had the crab legs and they too were horribly overlooked and rubbery. Nope, that was my one and only visit, over cooking seafood is a sin, if you ask me.

Doing WHAT in my food!?

By Mouse-Bonnie |

MY brother is from California...and if you told him to boil us some crawfish...he'd probably boil and serve them a lot like this. I genuinely feel bad for these crawfish for being prepared so incorrectly and dying in vain... First of all...These crawfish have absolutely no flavor. Shrimp honestly has more flavor...Assuming they're cooked on the spot possibly alive, they definitely aren't cooked for an impressive amount of time let alone hours like they do in Texas or Louisiana. Nope! Instead, to make them more "flavorful" they're served in a bowl filled with "broth" that's actually OIL, spices and herbs...I'm not sure why west coasters insist on making crawfish so much messier than it needs to be or is authentically. If it wasn't for me bringing my own Voodoo seasoning from Texas, I wouldn't have finished eating my lb and I NEVER get it that bad. I can't say the STAFF here is friendly but our waiter is...thank god because if we had a problem with him there's no sensible person to talk to about it seeing as though the manager is taking shot after shot by the bar. I've literally been sitting here watching him watch tv, take a shot with the bartender who's now off (but still going back behind the bar...), and then go out and smoke cigarette after cigarette...Each time at five to ten minute intervals they smoke, walk back in and make the place smell ten times worse than before....and the kicker? They didn't wash their hands once. The bathroom is locked "so homeless don't go in and sleep in it." And while walking back there, my fiancée heard our waiter ask the cook what he's doing and the cook literally replied..... "jacking off in the food. Hahahaha!" What?.....ummm... This place seems like it's run by college kids. It's not clean. The staff don't even take this place seriously. And the food is not good or authentic...at all. I don't even think these people have googled how crawfish is even cooked. Ugh. I'm getting oil on my phone just writing this review...

Happy accident!

By Staci125 |

Found this place by accident - and SO Glad!! Place was busy but they seated us right away. Staff was super nice. Had the shrimp boil, étouffée and jambalaya. My husband lived in Louisiana and he said this place brought back some great tasting memories! Make sure you get the bread to go with the boil!!!

Great Hole-in-the-Wall

By TheWombo |

It's hard to find, but you will not forget this place. The food is incredible and I will make sure to visit this place everything I'm in the area.

Neither Cajun, nor Creole, but Decent Food

By StephanieAnn1980 |

My Brother's Crawfish advertises as authentic "Cajun cuisine." As a Louisiana transplant, I argue that it definitely isn't authentically Cajun. However, the food was decent. I didn't try a crawfish boil, because I was too nervous that it wouldn't be right. So I went for the etouffée, one of my all-time favorite dishes. It was good food, but pretty damn sweet (which was surprising and weird). Also tried the dirty rice - ohmygosh, just no. That is not dirty ("Cajun") rice, and the hush puppies were just deep-fried cornmeal with no spice or onions/pepper. My friends ordered the "Southern" sweet tea, which turned out to be green tea with sugar. Decent food. Good prices. Just not Cajun.

Jambalaya...

By sundogpdx |

Nice spices, good flavors, good heat... Terrible location. But great food. Quick lunch. Owners pretty friendly.

Beware of the posers.

By Amazing A |

1h15 minutes from seating to serving overpriced subpar, lukewarm food. I have no idea why my group insisted on going there, or why they chose to stay. Super crappy service from the unprofessional staff, they couldn't have cared less about some of our frustrations. "My Brother's" is just a name slapped on this place. It's a misnomer at best, or intentional misdirection. I will not be returning! I do not recognize this facility!

A little taste of NOLA...

By plaidbagel |

I just got back from a trip to NOLA and wanted to have a little reminder. This place did just that. They have a wide range of items including a full bar. They feature Cafe du Monde chicory coffee. And a selection of Abita beer. Most of the food was quite good. We ate and ate. I really liked the jambalaya, dirty rice, hush puppies and coleslaw. The sweet tea was also good. Although the jumbo wasn't great. One was actually inedible. The service was quick and friendly. Our drinks were never empty. I want to go back and try some more.

Awesome food

By Prabhakar K |

This is a "whole in the wall" restaurant offering excellent Cajun food. There is almost always a waiting line. You better reserve two days ahead. We tried their "Shrimp boil", which is wonderful. Large shrimp are boiled in Cajun sauce, which is delicious. The dish comes with hot heavenly bread. There are other equally delicious dishes. The price is reasonable and the servers are extraordinarily friendly and helpful. While in Portland, never miss this cozy little place with black walls and bright smiles.

Friendly service but food oddly timed...

By plaidbagel |

So the service was very friendly. Everything was explained well. Overall the food was OK but everything came out at different times. We got our fries first, which we wanted, but our empty plate sat and sat even when 2 different people checked on us, neither picked it up. Then we got coleslaw that was supposed to be a side dish. It was HUGE, much more than I imagined. It was sweet but I kind of liked it. Then 1 of us got our meals, a Po' Boy, which should have been cut in half, so I did my best to cut it. Eventually my husband's food came out. I really liked his corn bread. My Po'Boy was OK, but the bread was a little dry. Overall it was ok but $35.00 for lunch before tip is pricy for what we got.

Best Cajun boil in the country

By Soalice1 |

Don't let the location fool you. It's in a small shopping center in the back corner. Wasn't even sure we had found the right place but boy had we ever. I've had many crawfish boils from my homemade to the heart of New Orleans and this is hands down the best I've ever had. The broth that the crawfish soak in is out of this world. The staff is amazingly friendly and on the ball. Food is piping hot. The fried green tomatoes are to die for. The drinks are tasty. I have eaten here three times and never walked away disappointed. It's my choice restaurant when I visit the great city of Portland. If you love Cajun boils this is the spot. And order the bread with the boil you will not be disappointed.

A touch of the South in SE Portland!

By Mraschio |

One of the few places in PDX to get a crawfish boil. They have recently cut the restaurant size in half. Smart business move. Cozy atmosphere and great service. Try all the items as a side to get more bang for your buck. The boils are just downright fabulous. Check it out you won't be disappointed!

WOW!!!

By MarineAir10 |

I have spent several years in New Orleans and if you are expecting to find New Orleans food anywhere else, forget it! But this place is damned close! Don't let the appearance fool you. It is a basic "hole in the wall" in and old strip mall surrounded by Vietnamese "holes in the wall". But if you leave your snobbery in the car you will be very pleasantly surprised. It opens at 3 pm and they offer a dinner menu and a "Happy Hour" menu. My wife ordered from the Happy Hour menu and the portions were more than large. I ordered 3 items from the dinner menu (higher prices of course) and had enough for 3 meals. The food was well prepared and the service was excellent. In total we ordered 6 food item, 2 beers and a coke which was $60. That's a deal!!

Pretty good

By EJ414 |

We stopped by for lunch and had the crayfish bisque and gumbo. Both were good, not too spicy. Restaurant was mostly empty when we came. Limited parking out on the street. Maybe a little pricey for the quantity of food you receive.

Mardi Gras Celebration

By werthmeister |

We went here to celebrate Mardi Gras with a crawfish/crab boil combo. While we waited for our order we had a crab cake that was melt-in-your mouth delicious. We had never had crawfish before and were a little disappointed on how small they were, but they were extremely tasty. The crab was excellent. Did I mention that this was Happy Hour special that I found on Facebook? The atmosphere and the service were excellent as usual, but next time I will stick with a more traditional dish like their fried oyster po'boy sandwich I had the last time we were in.

Lucky to find this place

By Munchmaster1 |

We found it through groupon, and gps. I've driven past it a100 times, it's really easy to miss the small sign that says simply"crawfish". We've been there 3 times or so and loved it! The staff is really friendly and fun. Our waitress was quick to point out what was good on the menu, after being asked. The gumbo, jambalaya, crab cakes, crawdad boils, everything I've tried here is first rate. It's kind of a small darkish place, but the decorations are fun and interesting on close examination. The great staff, and great eats will keep me coming back.

Hot boil a knockout

By Keith M |

I don't think five stars is enough to give this place it's that good. The hot boil with half garlic half-plane butter I wanted to take it home and get you a second time. The bread they give you to dip in it is plenty. Well balanced taste flavor and enjoyment of king crab, mussels, crawfish. Along with corn mushrooms and potatoes. My Brother's Crawfish, is off the beaten path. I don't know if the neighborhood is coming up, or going down. But well worth the trip

We'll be back!

By sbithell |

Their service was very attentive and polite, and the food was delicious! I went with someone from Louisiana and she said that the gumbo was exactly how it's supposed to be. My blackened chicken po'boy was a little difficult to eat on the french roll, but delicious. The hush puppies were really good too, as was the dipping sauce.

Worst Fried Shrimp Po-boy Ever!

By Mileyloo |

I have lived in Louisiana, and I have eaten COUNTLESS fried shrimp Po-boys. NEVER, EVER in my life have I been served one with Head-on, in- the- shell shrimp. The waiter told me to "pull them apart". WHAT??? I ordered a sandwich, NOT peel and eat shrimp! The 6 shrimp on the sandwich were so over-cooked they were shriveled & dry. To top it off, it was cold. (The other fried food ordered was also so over cooked and luke-warm it was nearly in-edible. The fries were STONE cold.) When I sent the sandwich back, it was whisked away, and NOTHING was done or offered to remedy the situation. The next time I saw the "waiter" he brought us a tab for $10. Almost as if he had remedied many previous situations in this way. He did not offer me another choice of entree, nothing. Just the check. This was after horrible customer service from the get-go, having to ask for silverware, and empty drink & water glasses, unable to answer a simple question...ect. The "waitress" filled the water glasses at HER tables ONLY, and ignored empty water glasses within two feet of her pitcher! What kind of service is that? If the "waiter" is acting as bartender too, perhaps he should not take 2 tables in the dining room( in same small room, by the way), and if he has to, maybe the "waitress" could help him out when he needs it. ALL the fried food was COLD, and this was AFTER we were given some excuse about the food taking longer because the pilot light went out. Shouldn't the food be hot, especially after he is apologizing ahead(within 10 minutes of us ordering) for the wait? And O-M-G the coleslaw! I paid an extra $2 for a side of shredded slaw mix, with about a teaspoon of dressing on it. The slaw that came with the over-fried shrimp & oyster platter had NO dressing, or so little that I actually picked up a handful to prove that point to my husband. My hand came away clean. TWO DOLLARS? Pathetic. My family members left most of their food on the plate, and although I left hungry, I felt lucky to have escaped for just $10. (We hit the drive-thru on the way home) We ate there when they first opened, had one of the "boils", and it was fantastic. We ate there 2 years ago, and we were disappointed with the service, but the food was OK, so we gave it one more try. I'm not sure how they stay in business, but they won't be getting any more of mine.

Great food

By werthmeister |

Just went to My Brother's Crawfish, a little restaurant stuck in a new strip mall off of 82nd Ave and SE Harrison. We went there because I had a Living Social coupon and were using it for my wife's birthday. The place is small but the decor is quite nice with a New Orelean's motif. The service was great and so was the food. I ordered the crawfish etoufee and my wife had blackened catfish. Both were well prepared. The sauce for my etoufee was mouth watering and paired with rice and chunks of tomato on the side. My wife's dish was paired with rice mixed with black beans. There was a family of 4 next to us that was having a seafood boil combo that looked delish with a dungeness crab heading the list. We asked our wait person about it and were told that it cost about $70 for the going market price on the crab plus the other seafood mixed in. All in all I would come back again with an eye on trying their oyster po'boy sandwich. Yum!

Best place to eat if you want to treat yourself!

By LindaELooo |

It was our 10th annual visit to Portland and this restaurant is the best “out of the way” place you can go to get the best meal ever. Never disappointing. Always amazing.

Don't judge a book by it's cover !

By 9Steve123 |

My wife and I just finished dinner and we were both very pleased . She had the clam boil and I had crab and seafood jumbalaya very good but I like the clam boil better . Dirty rice was also very good. Be sure to order french bread with a boil. I will be back to try more.

Real Louisiana flavors

By BillG6 |

My wife had blackened shrimp salad (very good great lettuce, lots of tomatoes, and shrimp) and I had the seafood gumbo, which came with an excellent peppery sauce, the kind that clears your sinuses. We were served by both wait people and they were friendly and thoughtful. The crowd, as expected on a Saturday night, was young, and two tables seated six to eight, which made the noise level fairly high. Still, it was easy to converse. A third of the floor space is given over to a bar, with the usual huge TV screens playing NFL and a movie (?), but only three or four people were at the bar. The hardest part was located this restaurant, located within a tiny mall. Parking was cramped.

Can’t say enough great things

By neumannholl |

We went to My Brother’s Crawfish on a whim and were extremely impressed. It is located in a small strip mall, but don’t let this deter you. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. We had a crawfish boil, crab boil, blackened catfish, and jambalaya. All were delicious. The food was far better than any more expensive restaurants we went to in this area. I wish we lived here so we could frequent this restaurant. Service was also excellent.

Great Dinner!

By Brittany P |

Went with family for dinner. Tried a little bit of everything. The food was great! The service was good and it was a nice little place to eat!

Felt like a Louisiana dive - loved it!

By pkrissel |

I have been to Louisiana many times, both to NOLA and the surrounding parishes. Small out of the way dive bars are great places to get authentic cajun and creole fare at good prices. My Bother's did not disappoint! We were not hungry enough to try a crawfish boil, but many around us were up to their elbows in the juicy little critters and shared that they were delicious. We had one main dish then a couple of happy hour small plates. The blackened catfish main dish was perfect. Crispy, tender and spicy. The fried eggplant appetizer (an off menu special that evening), was delicious, though a very small portion. The jambalaya and crawfish etoufee small plates were very tasty. It would be easy to be disappointed that the meat portions were smallish compared to the rice, but that is how it is done in Louisiana. This comes from working people's food. easy on the expensive fish, heavy on the filling rice. We loved it and found it delicious. Could do with just a few more critters in the etoufee. The staff were friendly and efficient and the drinks were good. Try it!

Just Bad

By Cindy B |

We used to go here a lot, but the bigger relocation has no decor, if children's toys count on top of a divider wall. They played loud obnoxious rap music, not food friendly. My food was so over cooked it was dry. The restaurant was basically tables and chairs.

Happy hour

By Mraschio |

Man we love this place. Just found out they do happy hour all day Sunday and they also have happy hour from 1000-1100 at night. Great deals for some tasty treats...enjoy

A taste of N'awlins on 82nd

By KommissarKen |

My Brother's Crawfish puts all its emphasis on helpful servers and great Creole food. It's about as nondescript as a restaurant can be, in an equally nondescript strip mall. But it's worth seeking out. The spartan, post-industrial (read: noisy) dining room doesn't detract from the experience; if anything it enhances it, because what you'll hear are people having a good time. There are many "boil" choices including (of course) crawfish, but also crab, mussels, shrimp and other seafood. I chose the crawfish boil with the spicy house broth. I got plenty of crawfish in a scrumptious broth. Pay $2 (a little high perhaps) for the crusty French roll -- you'll want something to sop up the broth. Tuesday is Mardi Gras Night when the boils are 20% off and the tap beers are a buck off. That makes a fun experience even better.

Excellent Food! My first Crawfish Adventure

By Milestogo007 |

I ate at My Brothers Crawfish located on SE 82nd and Hamilton in Portland. The food was excellent. I had always wanted to try a Crawfish Boil and my opportunity finally came. I had the one pound crawfish meal in spicy boil with potatoes and corn, plus a french bread roll. I would highly recommend ordering two bread rolls because the roll dunked in the boil sauce is just heavenly and they give you a lot of sauce. I had never eaten crawfish before so I went online and read how to separate the tail from the head, suck the juice out of head and then proceed to peel the tail meat out of the shell. It is tedious and messy work but the meat is excellent. There is a small amount of meat in the claws too that is worth working out to eat. The restaurant gives you a whole roll of paper towels on your table and it is necessary if you have a crawfish boil because your hands do get messy cracking the shells and obtaining the meat. The potatoes are cooked to perfection, you get two red potatoes in your boil and one corn on the cob. For additional money you could double up on potatoes and corn but it is not necessary. The place is small and the walls scratched, but the service was good. The restaurant is owned by two brothers who are Vietnamese. They grew up in the Houston, Texas area and they obviously learned how to make cajun food. They do an excellent job. I really enjoyed my meal. I had an appetizer to start out with and it was Fried Green Tomatoes. I always wondered what they taste like and all I can say is that they are wonderful. Just tremendous flavor and had an out of this world sauce on them. I am anxious to return and try other appetizers like the Hush Puppies and the Alligator. I also want to try the blackened catfish , chicken, and the etoufee. I highly recommend this place for everyone. If you are out on a date you might want to steer clear of the boil due to how messy it can become. They do give you a bib to wear to protect your clothing. The food is amazing and you won't be disappointed. I was happy to try something new and different in Portland and this filled the bill. Like I say, highly recommended.

Excellent place to dine!

By Myrt55 |

This establishment gives you the ambiance of a fun place to dine with your family. One of the best places to need high-quality soup with excellent additives you want for your meal. They have an alligator appetizer that is great!

Not worth the money or time

By BetterwithBacon |

I arrived at opening time 3PM to find it closed, I looked in the windows and there were NO tables set up where I was looking. I called the number on the window and the rude person that answered said I was at the wrong door. The door that was supposed to be used is 20 feet to the right were there was only like 10 tables set up. This place was run by 3-4 early twenties guys. They were more interested sitting at the bar eating and drinking than taking care of the customers. The appetizer "crab cakes" is only ONE cake for $9. The fried catfish was watery indicating frozen fish not what I expect for $13. The restaurant.com coupon automatically added 18% gratuity for the entire bill, I wouldnt have given him $2. I would not recommend and will not be going back.

Excellent Creole

By WLWP |

This is one of the best southern restaurants in Portland. Gumbo, ettoufee, jambalaya, po'boys, all superb. The best cornbread I have ever eaten. A delctable array of Cajun and Creole dishes brought to you by three brothers from Houston. It is tucked away in a small strip mall of Southeast Asian noodle places in Southeast Portland. Great cozy atmosphere and art work make is a comfy family dining experience. Wish they sold the Po'boy sauce by the gallon for take out! http://mybrotherscrawfish.com/

Dinner

By Tom M |

Suprisingly good food every thing was fresh tasty and the service was fast and friendly , its a small busy place but we had fun and Enjoyed the meal and we will be back for another boil

Not the best in the country

By mfheinonen |

It was ok. I wasn't super impressed with any of it. I had gumbo and it was kinda flavorless. My wife had the shrimp boil and I thought it needed more spice. The soft shell crab appetizer was decent but the Cajun crab cake was garbage. I didn't get any pics because it was pretty crowded and very dark in there and didn't want to bug everyone else with the flash.

Strip mall dining with a Southern twist

By Dawn F |

We came here because of a Groupon. Kind of mixed reviews. They have a variety of fish and seafood in boils, gumbo and other preparations. Beware that the fried shrimp come whole with the heads on. OK in the dinner, kind of strange on a PoBoy sandwich. Some portions are small and some are large. The waitress was very busy and didn't offer a refill on my tea until we were paying. Definitely good sweet tea and corn bread. If you like Cajun style food probably worth a visit.

Small, friendly "whole in the wall"

By road_tested2011 |

This is a Cajun restaurant that specializes in "boils" which are bowls of meat and vegetables in a wonderful soupy sauce. Its also quite messy, so request a bib. The food is really good and plentiful. The bar makes wonderful drinks, and the waitstaff is very friendly. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that service was a little slow, probably because they were quite busy.

The Best Mudbugs outside of New Orleans!"

By SandEWanderlust |

Let me start by saying don’t let appearances deceive you, the restaurant is located in a Strip Mall and it was a haul to get there. I was staying in Downtown. We started by ordering Abita Purple Haze and Abita Turbo Dog beer. Yes, it was in the bottle, but so what it still tasted really good! Then we ordered Fried Green Tomatoes. They were good, but not my favorite. I didn’t come here for the tomatoes anyway. Then we ordered a Boil and we chose to put 1 pound of Prawns and 2 pounds of Crawfish in it. You can order any level of spiciness but we decided to go “very spicy”. I had no regrets. It was amazing!!! You know it’s good when you are using a spoon to drink the broth. Our hands we sooooo messy but it was heaven! Halfway through our feast we ordered another pound of crawfish because they were so good. * Before we ordered we were notified that it wasn’t Crawfish season yet, and the crawfish that they would be serving was frozen. It didn’t matter to us at all. When our meal came it really didn’t matter it was DELICIOUS!!! Unless you are used to eating fresh crawfish you wouldn’t notice either! *My only gripe would be that the Prawns weren’t deveined, my friend didn’t mind though. It didn’t ruin my meal, I came for the crawfish! So make sure to take a trip to eat the best crawfish outside of New Orleans! (And Yes, I have been there!)
