EXCELLENT

By Lisa S |

Excellent place for a dinner date or to take the family for dinner. Food is amazing. Atmosphere is pleasant and service is incredible!

Superbly delicious

By Steven S |

This was our first experience at this restaurant and I was a little bit nervous about going to it. Some of the reviews claimed it was far too noisy, but I didn't feel that way. I thought it had a high energy level and great food. The four of us had a great time enjoying terrific and very tasty food in a neighborhood comfortable setting and we will definitely be back.

Noir - a "bright spot" on Passyunk Avenue

By Sciacca1993 |

We've been to Noir several times and have been more than pleased each time. The talented chef is able to turn even good home cooked fare into a gastronomic delicacy. The stuffed artichoke is tender and flavorful and can be shared by two or three. The arancine (rice balls) are always perfectly crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside. Some of our favorite entrees are the braised beef short ribs, roasted pork shank, veal saltimbocca and chicken pot pie which is hearty and delicious. If you are looking for good food in a quaint neighbor, you won't be disappointed with this choice.

Just okay.

The food here was just okay. There were flies flying around the whole time we were eating. The place is extremely small.

A neighborhood gem, friendly servers, great food

By Murrows |

I had a friend from out of town visiting and wanted to go to a local, nonchain restaurant. We were in South Philly; streets crowded, energizing...found this restaurant...small, crowded; we got in right away, wonderful mixed drinks and appetizers, and our veal marsala and veal saltimbocca were wonderful. Our waiter, Nolan, was attentive and very helpful. A great "find" in south Philly.

Not great, but not bad either

By Nuzzinaples |

I came from out of town and wanted to go to Restaurante Pesto, but it's closed until the 9th! Anyways, we walked down Passyunk Ave. to look for another option and found Noir. It's a loud, small place. My cousin and I ordered two apps: Margherita Pizza and Eggplant Parmesan - the pizza was quite dry with not much flavor; the eggplant parm. was pretty good, but not great. Main course was the braised beef short ribs, which were super tender and flavorful. Our server didn't seem to pay much attention to us at first when they may have thought we were just ordering apps, but after we ordered entrees, came over more often.

Not So Good!!!

By GREATVOYAGE |

Food is very good! However the service is sloppy with no attention to details!!!! The service staff seems to be chasing their tail all evening!!! Way too informal, not caring!!! If you are visiting a bar and looking for food this place is fine. Again great food but the service detracts from the overall experience!!!! Room for improvement!!!

A real neighborhood gem!

By Caz_Diner |

Needed a place to eat and kill a few hours while the kids were at a concert. A friend suggested meeting him and his wife for dinner at Noir. What a pleasant surprise! Great cozy atmosphere and outrageous food! The staff was very attentive and made us feel like regulars! Everything we ordered was superb! My wife had the braised short ribs and I had the veal chop. Have to honestly say...it was one of the best I ever had! Will definitely go there again next time we're in the area.

Pretty good Italian restaurant located in South Philly. Good food, not spectacular. Good service. Hard to find parking. Lots of craft beers on tap. This is a quintessential South Philly Italian restaurant that you can find nowhere else but South Philly. Expect to pay around $85.00 per couple with drinks.

Service was poor, food so-so, noisy as could be, lots of excuses

By NSL14 |

Okay, you've guessed it. The bottom line is I'll never go back to this place, and no one else should come here either. Parts of my review might be caulked up to a bad night for the chef, but the service we got, its disrespect, and the horrible management of this place can't be excused. Ambiance: It's a good looking bar with nice backroom. The tables throughout are too many, too big and too close together. You play "bumper table" to get around if you have to get up, and the servers are forever squeezing in between tables to get anywhere. Our host must have squeezed past our table a hundred times while we were there, each time putting her hand on one of our friend's back while getting by and saying excuse me, including while he was lifting his fork to his mouth, almost knocking his food into his lap numerous times. After the third time is was enough already. Noise: This one is partly the fault of the people in the restaurant, and partly Noir itself. There is nothing in the place to absorb noise. Everything in the place is hard, from floor, to walls to ceiling. The bar is right in the mix so you're going to get noise from there. Last night, the people at a birthday party, who hung around long after they were doing were carrying on like banshies much of the time. It was almost silent when they left, but then a group of eight 30-somethings arrived and they screamed their conversation at the top of their lungs, having no regard for anyone else there. I can't blame the guests on Noir, but the room certainly doesn't help. Food: Three of us had the soup special, Split Pea. It had an interesting flavor which would likely have been very good if the chef hadn't emptied his salt bin in the soup. None of us could finish it. One of us had the Stuffed Artichoke. It was watery and unappetizing looking. The flavor was so-so. For the main course, one had Johanna Clams Linguine which was pretty good. Another had Lamb Ragu Tagliatelli which was boring as it had little flavor. Another had the Sea Scallops which were pretty good and definitely the best dish we had, and the only one properly seasoned and cooked. I had the Chicken Pot Pie, when I finally got it. (More on that in a moment.) Other than the crust, it was essentially flavorless, underseasoned and had but a miniscule amount of chicken in it. The dish was essentially a French style crust which was under cooked (the center was RAW) and almost no chicken to be found. Service: All the people at Noir we really nice and really apologetic. We liked the nice and could have done without the apologies and instead would have liked the service to be somewhat timely. The service was atrocious. The server immediately took our order for drinks; three glasses of wine. It took about 10 minutes to get them. It took another 15 minutes until he returned to take our order. It took more than 20 minutes to get our appetizers. They were quick to clean off the table 10 minutes later, but it took about another 30 minutes for the entries to come, well 3 of the 4 entries anyway. While I got apologies from the server and the host, who I assume was the owner, over and over again, it wasn't until everyone was about 7/8 through their entrees that I got mine. I was about to tell them to skip my entree and just give us the check, but I didn't want to make a scene. I should have. The crust was RAW, as mentioned above and inedible. The rest of the dish was lousy. To make it up to us, we weren't offered a refund or credit of any kind. We were given free dessert to share, three dessert dishes, in fact, all cakes. We weren't asked what we might have liked, which ended up being very important, because in fact, I couldn't eat any of them, which to my mind was unconscionable on Noir's part. I couldn't eat them because I was allergic to them all. In fact for two of them, the server knew I was allergic to them as I had specifically asked about each item I was considering ordering if it had any cheese in it, as I'm highly allergic to cheese, and sure enough, one dessert was a cheese cake, another was a cake full of mascarpone cheese, and third didn't have cheese, but I couldn't eat it due to another allergy. Enough said. I wish that TripAdvisor had a rating below terrible, because Noir's quality didn't come close to terrible. The quality of their service was beyond terrible. The fact that they had to knock into us throughout our meal to get past our table was beyond poor management. To serve all but one guest at a table and force that person to wait until everyone is virtually done, is inexcusable. With all the great restaurants in Philadelphia, for anyone to come to this one and get the treatment they deal out is incredibly stupid on anyone's part who reads this narrative.

small, noisy and a gem

By animaleyedoc |

early sat night and every table in this small bistro was occupied...we had made reservations so we were seated, luckily ...dinner was delicious ..I had an antipasto and could have stopped there but went on to linguine with clams , friends had veal scallopini ...everything was well prepared, great service ..the only complaint i had was the noise but considering the size of the venue, it is to be expected. Finished dinner with a lemon cheesecake, supposedly made on the premises...good..the nice thing is that it is not noveau cuisine which means teeny weeny portions..these were healthy and well prepared .I would recommend this highly...seth and barbara koch

The restaurant: NOIR. The City: Philadelphia, PA. The food: Italian. The name: French. This restaurant is in the renaissance area of "South Philly". It is nestled amongst other restaurants, so stroll and take your pick. But, I digress. This small spot was visited at 7PM. Atmosphere: plain and cold(my nose was icey). A small room, (yes, only 1 room), fronted by a bar. Perhaps 15 - 20 tables for 4(depending how they are set up. The food is prepared by a chef who knows his business. Service is very good; helpful, accommodating, and knowledgeable. Liting is average. The walls are decorated with photographs of New York, etc. from the 1930s and `1940s Gnocci, pork shanks, linquini were rated very good. Flavorful, no overwhelming spices. Portions are: adequate; except the salads: copious. There are 3 salad dressings from which to choose; get all three. The highlite of the meal: desserts. It is the dessert that really makes you want to come back(eg. tira misu, lemoncello cake, chocolate moose). So, what could be bad. Well....., noise, NOISE. One can not hear across the table, or maybe to the one next to you. Also, the bar fills up as the nite wears on, blocking getting in or out of the restaurant. This is not a comfortable place to dine. Maybe during the "off hours" is a better time to experience this establishment. Oh, yes. The parking. Parking is on street(meters until 10PM, use quarters[ which the bar did not have], or the valet service of another restaurant.

Fabulous Find in Philly

By Kate B |

This is the second time we have had lunch at Nior this year. We were so happy both visits. The server was friendly and so accommodating. All of the apps were excellent, we ordered almost everything and finished it all. My husband just love the crabs and gravy and my son the clams and pasta. We loved everything so much we ordered take out for dinner. As we waited for our dinner take out they kindly offered wonderful desserts! Noir is right on Passyunk so enjoy the Ave after you have a wonderful meal.

Visited Noir on a chefs food tour. Tasted an Italian twist on punani and pot stickers with a delicious glass of Montepulciano red wine. Great way to start the food tour.

Philadelphia Marathon Weekend

We went to Noir for an Italian pasta load before the race. The Crab Mac and Cheese was fabulous. The atmosphere was great and the staff was very friendly. The only complaint is that it was a little loud. Hard to have a conversation. Would definitely go back next time we are in town.

Repeat Customers

I originally reviewed Noir about a month ago, but somehow my review was not saved. So here I go again. We eat at Noir often. We love it because they serve well prepared, nicely presented, delicious food in a friendly atmosphere, with great service. The restaurant has a full bar, and you can eat at the bar if you prefer. Or sit there for a while and enjoy drinks before or after dinner. The menu offers a nice selection of appetizers, meat and pasta dishes. We have tried many, and all are delicious. Some of our favorites are the pork shank, the rice ball appetizer, the gnocchi, and the beat salad. The specials are always creative combinations and very tasty. Also, leave room for desert. The deserts change often and are a real treat. The service is always great by personable servers who go out of their way to make you feel welcome and satisfied. So, come on down to So. Philly for a great meal at Noir. Don't worry about the parking, there is valet parking for a small fee, all up & down Passyunk Avenue. Enjoy !

Great Lunch

By napman |

On a short visit to Philly, both my wife's and my home town, we looked for a place for lunch before heading back to Maryland. Checking multiple sources we chose Noir. Surprisingly we found a parking space in front of the restaurant which we took as a good omen. It surely was. We split the rice balls (arancini), octopus salad, spinach gnocchi and the marscapone/lemon cello cake. Each course was delicious, served quickly and presented beautifully. The service was flawless: cordial and efficient but not rushed. If we still lived in Philly we certainly would make Noir one of our regular places to dine.

Excellent restaurant with a great bar, service and food!

By linda h |

My childhood friend came to visit and asked me to find a place that served good food and good drinks; so, on the spur of the moment I looked up Noir on Passyunk Avenue. Usually, one can find a place that has either or; but, Noir has more than that. I like places that you feel like you have known the people for a long time. Donna, the owner, was so attentive to everyone in the place. In fact, there was actually a wedding party that was having their dinner/reception; so the place was hopping which meant everyone was having a good time, drinking and eating. Noir is a lively place! My friend had a martini and I had a Tequila cosmo.. we tried appetizers...The roasted beet arugula salad was beyond good...it wasn't overdressed, and we also had the pan-seared crabcake and spinach gnocchi...their menu has so much to offer and the food is presented beautifully and we left nothing on our plates! Our waiter, was fantastic and when we go back, we are actually going to request him (Nole). Can't wait to go back and try the rest of their delicious food...there's something for everyone on their menu! Many compliments to Donna, Nole, and the chef!

Went for a family members birthday and they did not let us down. The food was great and the atmosphere was spot on.

Definitely will return here

We enjoyed our dinner at this warm and welcoming setting. The food was great and the service was excellent. Thanks for a greaf wine recommendation. Loved the gnocchi in sage brown butter.

We went for lunch, they are now open 7 days a week for it, and glad.

By Jean P |

There are only a few places on east Passyunk avenue in Philadelphia open for lunch. It was July 5th, and we were lucky to find Noir open. I have been here for dinner and like it, so why not lunch. The 1st item on the lunch menu was a "Montreal hot dog". So i asked about about it, and what makes it Montreal is the sauerkraut. So I decided on the Meatball parm sandwich. Wait, back up. There were 4 of us, so we 1st ordered the Montreal Poutine. Fantastic and 1 order was plenty for 4. My guests hand salads and a Chicken Italiano. All were very good. Water glasses were always kept full. I like that!

Disappointing visit

By Kyle F |

A little restaurant sitting on East Passyunk in South Philly. The seating area is SO tiny. It's hard to even get in and out of your table... definitely not for a large person to visit. Came for restaurant week - 3 course meal for dinner $35 per person. Portions were okay. Food was extremely greasy, didn't talk about sides on the menu. Bread, no butter or spreads. Baked too long. Service was really slow, which surprises me because most employees were standing at the bar on their phone. Wasn't worth the price and wouldn't go back. Disappointed.

Amazing, cozy, family-oriented!

By Charlie T |

I'm so in love with this place! My boyfriend & I wandered in last week in a Wednesday. It was late! The bartenders & wait staff were super friendly, didn't rush us & were efficient. This week, my family came with us. We had the crab cake, antipasto, pasta & cocktails.... Amazing! Huge crab cake & ZERO filler. Our server was terrific! Super cool place with a warm charm!

Still dreaming of the Linguini Pescator and looking for a reason to go back to "Passhyunk" in my hometown! Try it! You'll love it!!

Perfect place!

By MTH97123 |

We were a party of 3 for restaurant week and I am so pleased I choose this place. The restaurant is small and quaint with the tables arrange perfectly so you are comfortably and not so close you are in your neighbors space. The menu was divine, sublime, perfect. The service was top notch and the staff is so accommodating to your needs. The food not only was excellent but, the presentation was superb. And, the portions were plentiful. The flavors were spot on with each dish we ordered. I can’ wait to have dinner here and happy hours.

We dined at Noir last night. It was our second time there. It is a wonderful spot with very good friendly service. The restaurant is very small and a bit noisy but fun. Definitely a neighborhood restaurant. We can usually find parking on the street not far from Noir. A reservation is suggested, especially on the weekends.

Great Place

By RLONG86 |

Visited Philly on a weekday and decided to grab dinner at Noir before heading back to NYC. It's not very big inside, so I would assume it will get packed on weekends. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger. The bun was amazing.. tasted like a pretzel bun! Great place to dine in.

Fabulous

By Jet lag |

I came here with friends after traveling all day, hoping for a real Italian experience. This restaurant, nestled in South Philly is a gem. There is a selection of house cocktails (had the Noir martini... a dark cherry cocktail with lime--excellent!!, and the server (attentive and pleasant) provided bread and olive oil. I had the spinach gnocchi, which arrived in the traditional butter/crumb topping with parmesan, and these were little pillows of heaven. We lingered over coffee, in this comfortable neighborhood eatery, and nobody made us feel like we needed to get out. What an amazing introduction to Philly.

Bring cash

Grilled octopus was good.. not great. Spaghetti with crab sauce was very good. Bring cash. A 4% up charge for using a credit card is outrageous.

Surprisingly good food at Noir

By glubblub |

Had dinner with my wife and two high-school aged children. It's not a very impressive-looking interior but don't be deceived, the food is exceptionally good. Everything, in fact, was outstanding. The eggplant parm appetizer had delicious smoky flavor I couldn't quite put my finger on, and the grilled octopus salad was supremely good, with the octopus cooked just enough. My kids and wife all had pasta dishes that were excellent, with the best (they like to share!) I think, the one with the Bolognese sauce. Based on the excellent way the chef works with eggplant I'd imagine that entree to be great, too. My own entree was the Mont Royal chicken dish that was really very good. In fact, every single food item was supremely well-crafted. It's a very talented chef they have working in this restaurant. The only beefs I can offer are about the beers. They should have a better selection of both botttles and drafts. Both draft beers I tried were flat (I solved that problem by switching to bottles, but the selection was less-than-stellar). Despite that gripe I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Restaurant Week Lunch

By Connie L |

Went for Restaurant Week. 3 courses for a $15. lunch was a very good value. Service was very good. I had the cheesesteak pot stickers for an appetizer which was really good! I chose the chicken pasta in vodka sauce which was good but could have used a little more chicken and less pasta. My husband had the Chicken Italiano sandwich was huge and very good. He took half home. Chocolate cake was excellent and lemoncello cake was very good. They have a full bar. Cocktails were $9-10. on average. Thursdays they have Happy Hour with $4. glasses of wine and half price appetizers. Street parking is a real challenge.

Delicious Food and Great Happy Hour!

By LinnyR |

We stopped in Noir to sample some of their appetizers during Happy Hour and I was delighted with the food! The Roasted Beet and Arugula offered a great combination of flavors. Sharp arugula, not overly dressing in white balsamic vinaigrette with bits of candied walnuts and chevre YUM! My cousin had the appetizer portion of Eggplant Lasagna (not sure if they still offer this). It was an enormous portion of perfection on a plate with both ricotta and mozzarella layered with well cooked eggplant and tomatoes. The arancini rice balls were also very good. Prosecco is available here - yeah for me! It was Zonin - and pretty good. The Super Tuscan was Santa Martina I believe. Definitely brought me to my Happy Place along with the wonderful food options. To make it even better Happy Hour offers 1/2 price appetizers Monday thru Friday from 5 pm - pm. The atmosphere is intimate but welcoming and pleasant. We sat at the bar and we were very comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful yet not intrusive. We walked here since we were sampling Passyunk Ave Happy Hour Venues that night. I suppose parking is available at a cost somewhere within walking distance of Noir. Looking forward to my next visit @ Noir! Great experience all around.

Food is amaZing

By LESLES002 |

If you randomly pointed to anything on the menu and ordered it you would not be disappointed. That's how good the food is. The waiters are really sweet and really fun. The restaurant is small which gives it a very intimate feel. And the neighborhood it is in- East Passyunk Crossing is hot - totally trendy. Reminds me of the Lower East Side or Williamsburg in NYC. You will love about!

By Frequent traveler |

I agree totally with all the favorable reviews, especially the one that stated Noir is for eating, not fine dining. It's a standout amongst the many choices on restaurant row on Passyunk avenue in famed South Philadelphia. Many people don't realize that our tastes and ranking of a restaurant go beyond the quality of food and the chef's skill in preparing it. Mood, physical and emotional discomfort, company, weather, etc. are all factors. To this point, my wife and I, both Philadelphians, had a long day, starting with severe sciatica-like pain awakening me in the early morning, last minute packing for a trip, and our grand daughters birthday party. We were exhausted! The weather was cold and dreary, making the long drive stressful. Our Noir experience changed all that in a minute. No, Noir is not a beautiful place. It's a noisy, somewhat drab bar. It looks old, punctuated by wall photos of historic Philadelphia. Yet, it exudes a certain warm charm. We were greeted by an extremely pleasant, friendly young man, who turned to be our attentive waiter. Briefly, the food was delicious. We shared an arugula salad with toasted walnuts, goat cheese, and a heavenly dressing. It all worked. My wife, a veal Marsala connoisseur, said it was the best she has ever tasted. I, an amateur, loved it as well. I savored the cheese-filled gnocchi with marinara sauce as my entree. I could have made a meal just of the Italian bread and first class olive oil. We did not have any better on a recent trip to Italy. We passed on dessert. The cost of dinner with a tip was $70. It could have easily been $100 if we each had an appetizer, dessert, and drinks. Steep if you are on a budget, but worth it if you rationalize by having pizza at home the next night! Parking in South Philly is always a challenge. Valet parking right outside is convenient but will set you back another 20 bucks. Would we go again. In a heartbeat.

Comfort Food on East Passyunk

By yameson |

Noir has an eclectic menu of cold weather fare. We ate dinner there last night (24-Apr) with some old friends. There were families, neighborhood people and a large birthday party--a nice, mixed atmosphere. The bar business picked up toward the end of our meal. The beet salad was light & tasty, a nice balance of sharp, sweet and tangy. The French onion soup was first rate, deeply flavored and rich, just what we needed on a too-cold-for April night. I tried poutine for the first time, and loved it! Frankly, it's so delicious and filling I should have stopped there, but I had already ordered the braised pork shank. It was beautifully presented and rendered, standing straight up on the plate, a sprig of rosemary rising out of the bone. I was able to pull the meat off with my fork. The braise did not dry out the meat, or make it stringy. Each chunk was full, deeply flavored. The demi sauce was perfect. We stayed late, and did not feel rushed. I'll definitely be back again.

French Fries

By Karen S |

Called and ordered for pick up. Hadn't tried it before, will definitely try it again. My son wanted to order the meatball sandwich, but at about 1:15, they were out until dinner, so he had the sausage sandwich which he said was very good. Unlike the other 2 orders, his dud not come with fries, but the sandwich was huge. I had the crab cake sandwich which was excellent, a little messy to eat, but absolutely delicious. The French fries were the best that I have had in a long time. My husband had the Montreal cheeseburger which he said was good and considering that he prefers dining in a restaurant over carry out, good is as much as one could expect.

overated

By sherrytheskier |

first impression was the noise level was really bad. I could not hear myself think. we ordered the fried calamari and it was chewy and soggy :(. also had the mussels appetizer which was OK. I ordered the linguini with clams which was much better. would not run back

The best happy hour on Passyunk Avenue

By Marianna K |

I love the atmosphere of the old Italian restaurant. Everybody is very friendly and nice. The happy hour menu includes my favorite huge antipasto salad, outstanding calamari and mixed drinks are only $4. Must try!

First time but will be back

By ReBroker1 |

This was a Valentine's date with my wife. We had heard good reviews and wanted to try one of the many restaurants that have popped up on Passyunk Ave in Philadelphia. When we arrived the hostess advised the dining room was busy and we wouldn't enjoy the table available so she moved us up to a bar table and bought our first round of drinks. It was a classy move and I knew we made a great decision with Noir. My wife and I typically have drinks and nosh on appetizers and skip entrees and chose a few of interest. We were told the chef is from Montreal so we ordered the Montreal poutine which was amazing. The drink list was not extensive but had lots of variety. You won't be disappointed. It is a very friendly place and it seemed like there were many return customers with many folks being greeted by name as they entered the restaurant. The restaurant is narrow in width but made it more comfortable with so many friendly people around. Staff was great and attentive but not overbearing. A very positive experience and we will be back.

Great South Philly place

By southpatphilly |

The people can't do enough for you, food is amazing. Prices are good. It is a little small but there is a big bar.

Small spot, big on flavor, quality and service.

By Notanewbe |

Ate here two nights in July while visiting our son, (the first time he suggested it, the second time we did!). Sat at the bar for Happy Hour on the first visit and had a number of appetizers including Wild Mushrooms, Pot Stickers, and Broccoli Rabe. On our next visit two nights later, we sat at a table and received great service from our waiter Joe. Again the food was great including the Rice Balls and Calamari appetizers, as well as the Grilled Pork Chops, Linguine Raffaele, and the Spaghetti & Crab. Great draft Beer, excellent wine and a full bar to please any taste. We look forward to our next visit.

South Philly Restaurant Week

By NWRob |

I stopped by with a group of friends recently to try Noir during South Philly Restaurant Week. The waitstaff is amazing friendly. Our waiter also served as the bartender and made us a variety of drinks while we waited for all seven of us to arrive. The place is small, but the tables are not spaced absurdly close together to prevent movement. The selections for restaurant week were extensive and delicious. I had the beet salad and the penne pasta with chicken. We all tried the limoncello cake for desserts. Everyone ate every morsel. What a great little place!

Delicious find on the Avenue

By Viaggiare16 |

An impromptu visit to the East Passyunk Avenue restaurant scene resulted in a delightful visit to Noir for dinner. The menu afforded us an opportunity to try a delicious Quebec favorite (

Moules Frites
). The Italian (Pappardelle Bolognaise) and Arugula Salad with strawberries and burrata were equally yummy. Drinks and food were reasonably priced and the ambience was hip with a buzz of energetic conversation from guests without the loud overwhelming noise often found at same sized establishments. Our server was friendly and the meal was well paced. I'm so glad we found this gem and we will return !

Still finding itself

By PelleasPhiladelphia |

There are some great things about Noir. If you are into exploring restaurants in East Passyunk, it is well worth the visit. It has a Quebecoise/Montreal influence going and this is their best food: the poutine is delicious and decadent, the Quebec Toutier is a spiced meat pie and is also delicious. Though, at the same time, it is a neighborhood Italian joint - but the veal saltimbocca was tough and average tasting compared to several other restaurants on the same street. The bar gets really loud - too loud for the style they are shooting for and the cocktail menu is a bit cheesy (lots of flavoured vodkas). The diningroom seems more quiet. Strangely - the best dish after their poutine is their nachos which are thick and tasty. This is and the poutine make the visit worthwhile. The owner and servers are very nice which helps the experience. My suggestions - go all the way with the Quebec theme and let go of the Italian.

french, italian ,canadian and all delicious

By litphyl03 |

typical looking south philly bar with tables in the rear. Eating not dinning spot. Food is delicious and unusual. Several burger and snack dishes on the light side to more substantial dinner ones. The swordfish and octopus salad were wonderfully flavored as were the wild mushroom platter and the short ribs. husband said the lemon marscapone cake was excellent. All in all, very please except for the noise level which is standard these days.

On the Way to the Game

By NJBOOMER |

East Passyunk has a nice mix of restaurants, but my favorite is Noir. We find ourselves stopping in for an early dinner before an Eagles, Phillies or Flyers game. Very comfortable and close enough to the sports complex. The service is very friendly and quick with great Poutine, Pappardella Bolognaise, Montreal Steak, to name a few of my favorites. You can strike up a good conversations with locals at the bar. Give it a try.

You Must Try the Crabcakes!

By Nora |

We visited Noir for the first time this week. It will not be our last! There were 5 of us in our party and not one complaint. We were there at lunch time. I had the crab cake sandwich. Loaded with crabmeat and almost no filler. It was delicious. It is normally served with fries, but the waiter kindly accommodated my request for a side salad instead. My husband had linguine with clams and said it was one of the best he's ever eaten. The other members of our party had penne alla Vodka, and the ravioli. Clean plates all around. It's not a large place and I would imagine it's pretty busy in the evenings and on weekends. We will definitely return.

Excellent food and atmosphere

By canyonsdave |

I ate here with a work colleague who lives in the Philadelphia area, and really enjoyed it. I ordered off their price fixe menu, and had a beet salad, chicken parmesan for the main course, and a lemon cake for dessert. The lemon cake was oustanding, one of the best desserts i have eaten in a long time. The atmosphere is quiet and it's a great place to talk.

Good Italian cuisine with outdoor seating

My Beet Salad and Linguini Rafaella with Shrimp, Crab & Asparagus in a Lobster Tomato Cream Sauce were very good but my friends French Onion Soup and Rib Eye Steak were both too salty.

Unique menu, excellent food.

You can count on Chef Marco to turn traditional comfort food fare into a delicacy. The stuffed artichoke is reminiscent of your grandmother's touch. A few of our other favorites include the chicken pot pie, beef short ribs, pork shank and rice balls. We plan to try some Montreal style entries on our next visit. This is a gem in a neighborhood of good restaurants. Try it. We are sure that you will love it,

Poutine is the thing

Another great restaurant on the Avenue. Our large table tried a number of dishes and everything was delicious. Stand outs were the poutine, scallops and pasta. Good service and inexpensive wine list. It was a little loud on a Saturday night.

Nice restaurant in South Philly!

This is a quite nice restaurant in South Philly. I have been there with a couple of friends and we had a nice dinner. The restaurant offers a quite broad quasi-Italian menu. The food is good and the service is really attentive.

Excellent Everything

From the bartender to the wait staff, they are above exceptional when it comes to friendliness and service. Now the apps were all fantastic. Grilled Octopus, rice balls, and pouring were abundant and delicious. I made the mistake of filling up on apps and did not order an entree. My two guests had lobster ravioli and clams and linguine and both were delicious and plentiful. Unfortunately no room for dessert. We will be back.

Reasonably Priced and Good Selection

We went for lunch during restaurant week. The selections were from the existing menu. We tried the spinach salad with walnut, pears and cheddar for an appetizer and the pot sticker cheesecakes. For a ,main course we split a pasta and a chicken sandwich. The desserts were chocolate cake and a lemon cake. A great price for $15.00 each, however, the prices on the menu will not break the bank. We also had glasses of wine. It is a small restaurant with a bar in front,a couple of high top tables at the bar and tables in the back. I would recommend a reservation . We were able to park the car in front for lunch time but parking in the area can be difficult
