Good value

By Jasmine S |

We went to Namaste Indian Cuisine due to the proximity to our hotel. The buffet had a good variety of foods to try. The serving staff was great! I have food allergies so it can be difficult to eat out, but the ingredients in the dishes were listed and upon request I was able to get naan without butter. Great deal for $13!

buffet only, but quality and good indian food

By awestel727 |

bummed that they only had a buffet; but there was a quality spread and food was good. Also had a several deserts.

Limited vegan options. Lunch is a better value!

By RockingTravelQueen |

I went for lunch and enjoyed the freshness and vegetarian options and spicy curry. There was limited gluten free option, as most of the vegetarian dishes were fried or battered. I liked the unlimited naan. The staff is friendly!

Used Grubhub

By Elizabeth P |

Disappointed by the taste and quality of the food. I ordered through meat samosas tandoori chicken garlic naan through Grubhub. I found the naan delicious, the chicken was sadly non descript, the rice tasteless and I did not like the flavor of the meat in the samosas, tho the pastry was great. I loved loved the Grubhub option. Delivered early and hot

Great Variety, high quality for a buffet

By Harout V |

Namste opened up this location just a few years ago in Portland. It's not in the best part of town, and the ambiance isn't the best, but it's clean and comfortable. The food offerings are great, with both vegetrarian and meat dishes. For a reasonable price, you're able to sample many different curries, tandoori chicken and other specialities. Great Nan too. My only problem with this place is trying to limit how much I eat, it's that good. Mango ice-cream to finish of the meal is the best. Last night they were offering Indian whiskey from the bar, but I didn't get a chance to try it out, but will next time. Would recommend this to anyone who wants an introduction to indian cusine. Try what parts you like, and save the rest for the next visit.

Food is great but atmoshere is extremely shady

By PenelopePortland |

The good is good but the staff can be highly intimidating. As much as I like this buffet, it is a bit of a rough place. The staff is a bit rough and I have only had lunch there during lunch hours. I definitely would not go here in the evening and can not with clear conscious recommend it to anyone, especially women, to go here in the evening..

Fresh buffet food

By krubesh |

The food was fresh, the manager was kind enough to give my kids a discount. This evening the place was very busy and felt like we lacked a bit of service. None the less, good food.

Not quite as good as it's older sister in Vancouver, but good just the same

By Randy S |

They have a really good buffett for dinner and lunch too, I believe. It's our favorite Indian resto in the PDX/Vancouver area. I recommend them if you are hungry, but not for a romantic date or a business lunch.

Desperate For Indian

By shyboy2011 |

To be honest I was disappointed.. The dishes were far too spicy.. There was a good range of choices.. didn't think much of the service as no one came to our table to ask if we wanted our drinks refilled..$15 PP for the buffet.. I did like the rice pudding and fruit custard...and the mango ice cream was nice... wouldn't rush to go again

our family eats out

I need/like to rate this Restaurant as V.G to excellent ! This is an Buffet/Menu-style [your choice] Indian Restaurant our family ate at that we all enjoyed immensely !" The Restaurant was very clean, great access to the Buffet, and decor was relaxing and reasonably priced but best of all is the food ! I had prepared myself to expect Indian food to be abit on the spicey side ?" So this was a first time for me experience with near-east cuisine and it turned out to be positive ." Everything was A-OK !" I would come here again ?"

Enjoyed dinner buffet

By bigislandtransplant |

The dinner buffet had many hot selections that were varied including vegetarian options plus deserts. We took our time to eat and appreciated the friendly customer service. Very good value even without Howard Johnson hotel discount offered. We'd go back definitely for lunch or dinner.

Please don't go there.

By Suryathapachhetri |

I went there on August 22nd and took to go lunch for my whole family. At around mid night everyone started to have stomach cramp and diarrhea, worst thing, I had to run Hood to Coast relay the next day, I will let you guess how I felt doing it.This restaurant used to have good food but lately, they look like they are loosing business and that might have forced them to sell stale food and use cheap supplies. Lastly, please avoid this place if you can, there are other Indian restaurants in town, please do not waste you money to pay your way to emergency room, be careful of this place. Thank you. Victim

Excellent Indian food

By Minnie |

Wow this is my second time here 6 kinds of chicken, nan bread, soup, mango ice cream So much food at a very reasonable price I recommend this place you won’t leave hungry

I've got a peaceful happy feeling--in my belly!

By starchucks1969 |

Here for the lunch buffet. A great variety of freshly prepared foods that kept even my persnickety 9 yr old happy. The samosas were crispy but not greasy, the mains had meat (including goat masala, a new dish for me) along with vegetarian and vegan options. Be sure to save room for the homemade mango soft serve!

Decent place for vegetarian fare in Portland

By Patti G |

The location won't wow you, but the food is plentiful and good. The buffet style seems popular with families so everyone can have what they want. There was a good sized salad section, and at least 8-10 entrees (half of which are vegetarian or vegan) along with basmati rice, biryani, naan, and not to be missed is the choice of ice creams which are homemade. I recommend the mango...it was a real treat and not cloyingly sweet.

Decent food for a good price

By emgee |

On our visit to Portland, my boyfriend wanted to meet up with an old friend, and he asked to eat Indian food. The friend asked us to meet him here, so we did, knowing nothing about the place. We were seated quickly, and the server told us we could either order off the menu or eat the buffet. Since we never got a menu, I just opted for the buffet. The food was decent, but I was not overly impressed (we eat a lot of Indian food because my boyfriend is Indian). For the price, there is a good selection. There are many vegetarian options, and the mango ice cream got rave reviews from the others at the table (I suspect the reason this place was picked). We were never asked if we wanted anything to drink besides the water they brought to the table. The restaurant is also nothing special to look at. I'm not sure if my expectations were a little higher after having picked out & eaten at some of the best places in Portland. I would probably look for a nicer Indian restaurant the next time I visit Portland.

Gone bad with time

By OneWorldEquality |

I use to go to this restaurant for multiple years. In the last 3 years, it kept going bad. Less quality food, cutting corners, not a very good selection of dishes as it used to be. Many of my friends complained about it as well. Staff isn't as happy as they use to be. I wouldn't recommend it.

Buffet Items for Everyone

By Barb S |

First time here for us, and we enjoyed seeing the variety of selections offered. Happy there were non-spicy entrees and loved the watermelon. Great naan and several non-alcoholic beers. Very convenient to HoJo motel.

Best in Portland

By 247Hitt |

A great range of items in the buffet. Very nice tandoori chicken and above all is the goat curry. Have never eaten goat curry so well done, comparable to any Indian restaurant in North America.

Good variety, reasonable prices.

By John K |

On a break from a family weekend, dined solo on a Fri noon. Friendly staff, prepared papadams for me when I asked if they were available. Good variety, reasonable prices.

Good Indian buffet

By RWAJ08 |

It's one of the few places in Portland you can get an Indian buffet for lunch or dinner 7 days a week. The price is reasonable, the selection is good, service is good. Food isn't the best Indian you'll have, but it's good. They've got homemade soft serve mango and coconut ice cream flavors. The atmosphere isn't great. It's the sort of people you'd expect to find at a buffet - those who are clearly their to eat as much as possible, and throw in a lot of loud children. But it's a pretty big restaurant and there's plenty of seating.

Good Food - OK Experience

By BC |

After spending several days stuck at home due to the snow storm, we decided to venture out for some food. We haven't had Indian in a while so thought we'd give this place a shot. First off, don't let the location or sketchy looking building deter you; the same goes for the unconventional restaurant and tacky decor. Get past that. Moving on. We were led to a table in the back of the restaurant and were told to grab plates and help ourselves. They had a good selection of food, everything from entrees to desserts. The food was alright overall, but lacked that "wow" factor. We ended up getting a fair amount of chicken and some side dishes. I especially like the naan and mint sauce - it was very tasty. We'd probably stop in again, but wouldn't go out of our way to do so. The Bollywood Theater is way better, considering you'll spend about the same amount of money at either restaurant.

Good Indian food

By riccotraveler |

The buffet was so good and the price was reasonable. The have a great little bar a night next to it with good specials

Great bargain

By Foodies2010 |

Highly recommend this restaurant if you like Indian food. There was not a single item on the buffet that was not tasty and well prepared. Tandoori chicken can be dry but not here--it was juicy, tender and well-seasoned. Also enjoyed the goat curry and the large variety of vegetable-based selections. Our party consisted of 3 omnivores, 1 vegan, and 1 gluten-free diner; all of us left happy and very full. Lunch buffet was $11 (before 4), making it comparable to many fast-food chains in cost but you get so much more variety, quality and quantity here. Finish it off with the self-serve mango house made soft ice cream for a great meal.

Good value for price

By jde1953 |

I had the dinner buffet for US$13; large number of choices, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. The garlic naan was very tasty. Staff is very friendly.

Great Indian Food!

By 488Susan44 |

We just happend upon it one evening and we would for sure go back! The service people were all Indian and so they knew what they were talking about! Everything was fresh, hot and tasty! Nothing was too spicy and everything was cooked just right. The meal came with Nan the usual bread of India. Servings were generous, the resturant was very clean and the service was fast and professional. You won't leave hungry!

Dad went back for 3rds

By mapdr |

I love Indian food. Unfortunately there are no real Indian restaurants where I live so I always try to get to one while traveling. A couple of weeks ago, we were in Portland with my parents celebrating their anniversary. The last time I took my parents to a buffet, my mom did not like the spices, so I was a bit hesitant. Seeing that Namaste had a menu as well made it worth our while to at least check out the place. As predicted mom came back not wanting anything on the buffet but was very pleased to have the option to eat off the menu while my father and partner made several trips to the buffet. Everyone was surprised when my father, a small eater, went back for a third time and returned saying if we went to Namaste earlier in our trip (instead of on the last night), we would have gone back. So, we will next time we are in Portland.

great menu

By unhappy2011 |

what a wonderful way to taste and experience indian food, a wide variety, great selection, desserts as well. love the selection of rice. great wait staff. all was warm and tasted incredible

Very good buffet!

By KTKEYSGAL |

A friend & I tried Namaste Indian Cuisine on Sandy Blvd and we were very happy we did. They had a $15 buffet that we looked at prior to deciding to eat there. Everything looked fresh, hot and more recently cooked food was constantly coming from the kitchen and replacing food at the buffet. The selection of different kinds of dishes was remarkable as well as a fresh salad section, including cut up fruit and a rice pudding. There was a machine serving frozen coconut & mango soft serve also. We left full and happy. The employees were friendly, helpful and constantly cleaning. Definitely give it a try, you'll be happy you did!

All the colors and the tastes of India in a buffet

By ValentinaSanseverino |

This place was awsome! The buffet was huge and had an incredible choice of vegetarian and vegan food (but very good also for meat eaters). The location is pretty nice, the staff is really kind and helpful, they have a good choice of wines and beers and the food is delicious! I tryed a bit of everything and really enjoyed it

Good Food Good Service

By mikelittlefield51 |

Interesting Selections and very tasty meal. Love the atmosphere here. The food was awesome! We met friends there. The noise level wasn't bad, we could still hear each other

Americanized

By mozecuse |

If you are staying at the adjacent holiday Inn, this is very convenient, but this is the only reason, in restaurant-rich Portland. It is buffet only. The food is good, but bland and Americanized.

As good as buffet can be!

By chasmo k |

Have not been for a while, because I'm trying to reduce my calorie intake. But, last night (a Saturday) they really out did themselves. A wonderful assortment of indian food, both vegetarian and meat dishes. Salads, fresh fruit, rice, soups, bread and even mango ice cream, which looked great but I skipped! The curry flavors were truly amazing, the Tandoori chicken was moist and scrumptious. If your in the mood for Indian, give them a try.

Classic Indian Food

By Doc B |

We always enjoy the food here, it is buffet style and of course ALL YOU CAN EAT. The homemade Ice-cream is amazing. What we cannot understand is why they don't fix this place up a bit. Yes it appears sanitary while at the same time worn appliances are not appetizing such as the color of the rice steamer. Furniture is in need of serious updating and in general a face lift is needed. Sure we eat here now and then and will likely continue while we will probably never bring company,

Wonderful Indian buffet, great value

By dangrad |

Dined here with spouse three nights ago. We were staying at hotel in same parking lot and didn't have a car. Decided to give it a try and had a great meal. Buffet at dinner is $12.95 and lunch is $9.95. There were lots of offerings on the salad portion. Two types of rice were saffron basmati and a chicken biryani. There were more than ten dishes to choose from including several veg options and of course curries, palak paneer, lamb and goat dishes. There were also two soups. The best part was the homemade mango soft serve ice cream for dessert. Don't let the area scare you. This is a great meal at a great price. Sure,it isn't the fanciest place in town, but the the staff are friendly and it is clean. Happy Hour drink prices available in the bar and you can take your buffet plates in there as well. The restaurant was busy when we were there.

I eat mo chick-en a-ny man e-ver seen

Yummy buffet meal. Lots to try...and selections very. The goat is a succulent favorite. Also the sagg is good here. Bonus: mango or coconut ice cream is included!

Great lasi...average curries...poor decor

By Manleys1995 |

The condition of the restaurant (tables, walls, chairs, floor) made me feel like I was eating in a busy high school cafeteria. There were large scratches on the walls, food and napkins on the floor, just general chaos. The food serving line was clean and orderly, although the items were not as hot (temperature) as I personally prefer. There were good variety of choices-both veg and non-veg. Most were not labeled correctly. I ordered a plain lasi and it was one of the best I've had outside India! My husband ordered a mango lasi and was happy with it. The food was quite mild, wish they would kick it up a notch. If you drink, seemed to be many options. The only worker we saw (seated us, cleared our plates, checked us out at the end) was very friendly.

namaste indian cuisine

By vaida17 |

this joint is a good option for a buffet lunch, which is around 10 dollors. the spread is quite good for both vegetarian and non vegetarian options. raita, curry, nan, saffron rice and dhal, ice cream, kheer, farsans, paneer dishes, were available and found them freshly prepared, tasty. this appears a grand buffet, a surprise at united states. staff is cordial. they offer drinks also. this is a good indian cuisine restaurant

Tasty Buffet

By Tonihoney |

If you like Indian food or just want to get a taste of what it's like, go to Namaste. The restaurant is clean & bright & the buffet was huge. There are the regular well-known Indian foods plus a lot more. Be adventurous & try something new! Goat was even on the menu & was very good.Prices are reasonable & the food was tasty, hot & good. And there's a parking lot right out front.

Just so so.

By Michelle M |

Tried Namaste because it was close to our motel and we love Indian food. This was just so so. The only thing offered was the buffet, which I am not a fan of. The website says a la carte dinners offered, but that's not true. Service was negligible and drinks were never offered. A glass of wine and a soda would have been nice. Big selection of food, but just not great in taste. Naan bread was dry and not very good. Will not be going back.

Incredible food always!

By DeerDiane |

We are never disappointed by the food and service at Namaste! Eating here feels like heaven..clean atmosphere, ample food, good service and great price!

REAL INDIAN FOOD!!

By Tigerman777 |

First, one thing I have learned in life is when there are lots of people of the same nationality as the ethnic restaurant you visit, it tells you that the quality is high. As a friend once told me who owns an ethnic (Mexican) restaurant, it reminds them of their mother's home cooking:>). There were A LOT of East Indians in this restaurant!! And boy it was THE BEST Indian food I ever had!!! All the sauces were great. They had a yogurt concoction with cucumbers called raita that tasted great! Their kheer, rice pudding was really good too! The nan was typical of the cuisine. If you like meat, they have a chicken pakora to die for, as well as other good tasting meat choices. I don't like eggplant and their eggplant masala was quite good. I think you all get the point. This is as authentic as it gets for buffet food. I tried a sample of everything and gorged on my favorites. It was tough to decide with so many choices:>). The service was fine. When I came back from getting more food, a time or two I had to get a new fork. Proof they take cleanliness seriously. Whether you stay at Howard Johnson hotel or not, where it's right behind, if you go, you will love it:>).

Great selection of Indian dishes, buffet style

By dandysandy |

We discovered this place by accident but were very pleased with the food, price and decor. For about $10, you can return to the bountiful buffet as many times as you wish. The naan was fresh and hot, there were many hot and cold, vegetarian and meat dishes. We ordered wine which was also reasonable. There is a small dessert bar as well. This is obviously a popular place for both students and travelers as it's located next to a Howard Johnson's and nearby to many midpriced chain hotels. The booths are private and separated by beautiful old stained glass windows, the remnants of the previous establishment. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly.

Excellent surprise

By International T |

Excellent Surprise, Buffet style, clean, fresh, not peppery. wide variety of very tastey dishes. Veggies fresh and cooked, delish meats, deserts, soups. Service was good. Price was good. Will be back, recommend

Pretty good buffet at a very reasonable price.

By UberTravelBum |

I gave Mamaste four stars namely due to the pretty good buffet selection at an excellent price (dinner was $11.95 w/out drinks). The restaurant is located in what must be the former house restaurant for the Howard Johnson's hotel next door; the interior reminded me of an old "Sea Galley" restaurant, if you are from the PNW and remember those. The buffet was well-stocked w/the typical dishes one sees on the menus of most Americanized Indian restaurants; however, to our surprise, the spices weren't muted and there were spicy options. I can't remember exactly how many options there were, but it had to be 25+ entrees...if you include the two rice options; funny enough, it seemed more "carnivore" oriented...which might not please vegetarians (we were very happy though!). There was a large desert area, but I never made it that far: Three large plates and a 22oz Taj Mahal beer was it for me. The only real downsides to Namaste is the tired exterior and the sketchy local surroundings (there is a strip mall w/a 7-11 right next to it that is to be avoided). But all-in-all, this was a great bargain and the food was exceptional for an Indian buffet; you don't go for the ambiance, you go to chow down. BTW: The place was packed when we visited for dinner and I think the word is out about Namaste's value on the main food reviewing websites...I'd visit one of those if you want in-depth descriptions of the buffet items.

Very fresh food at a bargain price

By DoctorM |

I was pleasantly surprised by my buffet lunch at the Namaste restaurant on the corner of Sandy Blvd and SE 82th street. This is not a neighborhood known for its attractions or restaurants, so it is a treat to find such good food here. The restaurant is adjacent to a motel and clearly gone through multiple incarnations and owners. But just ignore the decor and focus on the food. I arrived around noon and found 10 hot dishes including a spicy version of Palak Paneer ( spinach and cheese) , the ubiquitous Tandori Chicken, Aloo Bialgau (egg plant and potatoes) Chicken Makhni in a cream sauce and special treat of Goat Masala. There were also 4 fried dishes including very fresh and delicious veggie Pakoras ( fritters). And 12 or so cold dishes including salads, sauces and desserts. I will certainly return for another visit. Just enjoy the good cooking at this family run Indian restaurant.

Authentic home cooked taste

By Kathy Rankin |

The food is always consistent when we visit. The choices are well thought out and nothing is too spicy. It seems like healthy food as well. The waiter is sweet and always attentive when we need a drink. The place is clean and quiet for the most part. We never have to wait to get a seat. They allow you to leave with your desert in a cone! The only reason I didn't rate them 5 stars is because it is unknown when they will have fish. They serve goat, we do not like goat meat. they serve quite a bit of chicken dishes, they could vary that a bit.

Lunch Buffet is great

By Dave E |

A very wide selection and the items are well marked. You can easily pick what you like and eat as much as you care to. That makes for a great and inexpensive lunch. Went with friends and found the service to be prompt and the food good.

Great indian Cuisine

By Shimonge |

We liked the foods very much, it was plenty dishes. We will come back again and tell our friends to come to this restaurant.

Great food

By Ron T |

The buffet was very good. The wait staff helped my wife navigate to gluten and dairy free foods. The nan was exceptional.

Great Buffet

By Teresa W |

Don't let the location deter you. This great Indian food buffet was a surprise to us, given its location next to a hotel. The food was fresh and delicious for both the vegetarians and carnivores in our group.

Interesting buffet Indian Restaurant.

By KeithMac |

My friend and I were overnighting at the nearby hotel and we were looking for somewhere for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised with this restaurant. Good food, and plenty of it.

Disappointed.

By Paul D |

I'm not a fan of buffets and the night we were there they only had their buffet... seems one of their cooks was out. One dish was quite good as was the Pakora, but the rest was pretty mediocre. The staff was friendly but the hand cleanser dispenser before the buffet was bone-dry. I like Indian food a lot but wouldn't recommend this spot.

Good, not great

By Shane W |

I was pleased with this Indian buffet, but there wasn't anything remarkable about the place. The servers were very nice, the buffet good enough and the prices OK. They did have a decent beer selection. Overall, if I were staying in one of the nearby motels, I would be likely to stop by again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

Ok

By aimje2016 |

Only ate vegetarian meal here: deep fried potatoes, garbanzo patti and sauce, spinach sauce, white rice, eggplant sauce, lentil sauce, and mango ice cream. Good taste but their restroom was not well kept and I couldn't use it after meal.

Many choices for vegetarians

By Cielle B |

My husband and I had a few open hours in Portland on our way to Seattle. We asked a friend who lives in Portland if we could meet for lunch. She chose Namaste Indian Cuisine. They have a buffet lunch making it easy for each of us to choose what we wanted. Friendly staff. I am vegetarian and was happy with my choices.

Delicious lunch buffet

By nelsonclancan |

I love their lunch buffet. They have a big variety for meat eaters and vegetarians. The appetizers are really good as well. Soft serve mango and coconut ice cream are so rich and creamy. Their to-go option for the lunch buffet is pretty neat. They give you a plastic container with 3 separate compartments and a smaller container and you can fill it up as much as you can as long as it closes, unlike other Indian buffets where it's by the pound. They also give you half a naan with the to-go lunch buffet. I have yet to try their dinner buffet but overall food and service is great!

Evening Indian Buffet? Yes! Count us in!

By Michael E |

Perfect in every way? No, but still awesome. We have eaten here multiple times. Never disappointed. We are both vegetarians so we cannot comment on the meat offerings, but we love this place. And a dinner buffet for Indian is too rare, so we are thrilled to be near this place.

Buffet and Nice Bar

By Jerry D |

This is a family style Indian buffet restaurant food offering. There is family seating in the main dining area and there also is a separate seating in a bar lounge area. There is a wide selection of food offering and drink selection seems to present good variety offering in beers and wines. The food quality was good, but nothing exceptional. It seems to be a family run operation and I notice many Indian ethnicity in attendance, which is a good sign that they preferred the food offering at this restaurant. Prices are reasonable.

BEST Indian food we've found so far in this area - quite a nice surprise!

By scott x |

First time visiting and found this place through another review site. The place was packed! Would have given it 5 stars except the Tandori chicken was not up to par. Everything else was great. As good as the places we used to eat at in the Bay Area (especially Silicon Valley). Amazing selection, at least 10 vege dishes and 10 meat dishes. All hot and tasted pretty good. Haven't found anything in this area that even comes close and it was only $14 for the buffet.

Great Surprise Great Place

By susankD6664XB |

This place was a real pleasant surprise! The food was really good. Never been to Portland before nor an Indian buffet. Stayed in the Howard Johnsons next door and the restaurant was attached. It was filled with interesting, diverse people and was a family restaurant with lots of tasty choices. I would definitely go there again.

Pretty Good Food

By J Kimberly W |

Was craving Indian, did some searching, and Namaste was not only ranked well, but was on my way home too (SCORE!). The set up is buffet style, but you can also order off a menu, learned that on my way out :-(, was really wanting Vindaloo, but tried some other main dishes that I like as well. I got my order to go, and had so much food, I ate if for 3 days...and yes it was still good!

Contractor

By Chris W |

I was skeptical at first but very delicious. Quality Meats and veggies and lot to choose from!!! Even the desert was delicious it was I think melon ice cream and some other flavor I have never had b4. I will be back... sound good tight now

Awesome buffet!

By Peter B |

We were on the road and tired of the usual, so entered Indian food into the gps and Namaste came up. We weren't sure what to try so did the buffet to try a bit of everything. Never had goat before but it was excellent! Ditto the tandoori chicken and several vegetarian dishes. Topped it off with soft serve mango ice cream. Yum!

THEY DONT CARE!!!

By Ann S |

I ordered on delivery and only received half my order and what I did receive was not edible. I tried contacting them twice and not once did I get any kind of response. I used to enjoy their food but now...never again, others will be warned!

The new location near the lloyd Center

By ManzanitaPortland_OR |

I have definitely had worse, but also much better Indian food. I went tot he lunch buffet. With few exceptions Portland Indian food is disappointing. This place serves edible food, which beats some of them. (I LOVE good Indian food.)

The Naan was great

By wientraveler02 |

This had good reviews and the it was close to the motel. I tried it and it was not what I was expecting. There were lots of people in and out and many seemed happy with the buffet.

Very good food and excellent value

By half-Brit |

This family owns two restaurants and they both have buffets. This one is outside of the core area of downtown Portland but easy to reach with a car. It's easy to find off of I-205. Lunch was less than $10 per person and that included our soft drinks! We were first seated near the buffet, but when the table next to us was filled with four very loud young men, we asked our server if we could move. No problem; she made sure there was a table ready and was pleasant and gracious. They have lots of variety of food including salads and soups. Some of it is spicy, and much of it fairly mild. Everything is clearly labeled. The two types of rice wer great - much better than plain old white rice. We don't get to eat Indian very often since we're from a rural area so I wrote down some of the dishes: Chicken Masala, Chicken Makhini, Chicken Pankoras, Navaratan Khoorma, Punjab Curry, Aloo Muttar, Potato Pankoras. This is just a small sampling of what is available and I hope I spelled them correctly! Everything my husband and I tried was delicious. The staff kept all dishes filled with fresh food, and the restaurant is clean, tidy and friendly. The mango ice cream dessert (included) was tasty and gave a nice mellow finish to our good meal. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody :-)

Yummy Indian Food!

By LJR2011 |

Namaste has a huge buffet of all kinds of Indian deliciousness! And the atmosphere is very comfortable and lovely...a must try when in Portland!

A good East Indian Food choice

By dave984MooseJaw |

All you can eat East Indian food with lots of choices on the buffet, for the price, both Vegan and meat. If one compared the food to that served in India, this is more tailored to the American taste. Most Indian food, in India, has more hot spice, and that includes the tea. So, if you like really "hot" food, this might not be your first choice. If you have some in your group who are not that spice tolerant, this would be your choice. Spicy, but tolerably so. The service was helpful and attentive. The establishment has the space for groups. Would be suitable for a family get togethers should all enjoy East Indian flavours or be at least, interested in trying something different.

Lunch or Dinner at Namaste

By Atiq2015 |

Nice restaurant with great food. We visited the restaurant at their second location at 1403 NE Weilder Street, Portland and had lunch buffet. We enjoyed the food. So, we hired them for a catering event at a graduation party for our son. Catering price was right, and the food was great as well.

Not very good at all.

By Dr. Maya N |

I've eaten Indian food all over the country. This place is not good at all, but unfortunately with no other options for food when staying at the hotel in the same parking lot, I was stuck eating here for two days. Day one was awful and my stomach was having an internal war going on after the food. Day two, the food was fresher and not as dried up, but the staff does not take care of you nor check on you to see if you need anything. Overall, it was pretty subpar and I would not choose to eat here if I had other options.

Food for your soul!

I just love Indian Food. It's comfort food. I was feeling a little cold and down with the Fall weather and I was craving the warm, semi spicy food of chicken tiki masala. I went to the lunch buffet and they did not have that BUT they did have chicken malenhi (spelling) which tasted and looked the same. It really was just what I needed to help ease my cold and refresh me. Namaste has a very warm atmosphere and I have never been disappointed. I will be coming back. They are very close to my work and they have a restaurant in Vancouver too. NAMASTE!

Let's get real, this place is awesome!

Best Indian buffet ever, everything's fresh and tasty. The mango ice cream machine is out of this world. I'm going back without question.

Needs a cleaning!

By dgard0349 |

The food wasn't bad for buffet style. A little soggy(the naan and pakora). A lot of meat items, Lamb, chicken and goat. Vegetables were good. Service was non existent. The space needs a major cleaning! However $12.95 for dinner buffet is a very good price, that is an entree alone anyplace else. If you want to sample or really hungry try it.!?

Really good food for a great price

By marcia_marcia |

I took some family members here before Thanksgiving and was thrilled with the food and the bill! First the buffet just has a wonderful variety of foods. Great salads, sauces, soups, rice, naan, two samosas, several vegetable entrees and several meat entrees. The butter chicken is just melt in the mouth delicious, and the house made mango ice cream is a great finish. I have to agree with another reviewer that the ambiance isn't much, but it is a nice space, it is spotlessly clean, the buffet food turns over quickly, so the food is always fresh and hot. I like the down home feel and the wonderful choices here. It is a really delicious, reasonably priced, choice for a group of people.

A local secret serving buffet-style southern indian food come early to get a good table

By ANDREW R |

A favorite with folks in NE Portland, an all-you-can-eat venue, $14 for adults, $13 for seniors, and kids 1/2 price. When we visited about 1/4 of the diners were in contemporary Indian garb and by the time we were quite stuffed, we appreciated why those who knew classically spiced dishes dined here.

Large selection

By Beej80237 |

We went for the lunch buffet. There was a huge selection. Not much of an atmosphere but there were nice windows with lots of light so I could identify the many buffet offerings. It was quiet when we were there. The staff was friendly. The price was very reasonable. I didn’t think the surrounding area was any cause for concern at all.

Great find, would be a regular if I lived in Portland

By Becky H |

We went to this place mainly because it was a two-block walk from our motel, but I would drive across the city to reach it if I lived here. Excellent variety of different dishes, plus a well-stocked salad bar, made this a perfect choice for a picky eater (my grandson), someone on a specialized diet (me) and two ordinary folks who really like Indian food. The service was OK - given that one expects minimal service at a buffet. We were a bit confused at first, because after seating us the waitress went away and did not return for a good five minutes. I later guessed that most patrons get seated, then immediately go fill plates, rather than waiting to order drinks as we did. No biggie - I would know better next time. The bar looked comfortable (just poked my head in) with several TVs, at least one of which had a football game on. Definitely enjoyed this place and will go back if ever in Portland again!

Good buffet.

By LikeVacay |

So glad to have found this place. We stayed at a hotel by the airport, and needed a good evening meal. The buffet was hot, and included a very good selection. We eat a lot of Indian Cuisine in Houston, and were pleasantly surprised at how well Namaste prepared many of our favorites. Service is friendly and good. Do not miss the homemade mango softserve ice cream for dessert. If we lived in Portland, we'd frequent this restaurant. (Don't expect a fancy interior. Dining room could use some updating.)

Generous buffet

By George A |

Namaste is probably one of the most diverse buffets in Portland with decent quality within this class of establishments. I even have some Indian coworkers that found the food quite savory. My favorite was chicken 65.

Indian

By Mike P |

Located next to the hotel I was staying in, I tried this and was pleasantly surprised. They had a great dinner buffet that featured vegetarian, lamb, fish, chicken and goat dishes, as well as a salad and soup bar. Topped it off with mango and coconut ice cream.

Great tasting Indian food

By rickh57 |

I came here with some friends from work. The food was terrific, good flavor and a large variety of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian items.

Good Buffet Price - Reasonable And Varied Food

By John S |

Went to Namaste with family including two grand children whose greatest draw was the ice cream machine. Place is reasonably clean, buffet is fairly extensive and well presented. Staff is friendly and cleared used plates quickly. Food is varied and enough selection to satisfy most people's likes. Bill paying chaotic with seemingly untrained person on cash register, but this is a minor complaint. We would re-visit Namaste, but only if grand children wished to.

Great Indian buffet

By RM |

Excellent Indian buffet served on real plates with real silverware. A wonderful place to have available in the Portland wasteland of food courts, which are environmentally awful. This is a great alternative. Pleasant atmosphere and comfortable seating.

Great Indian food

By alans747 |

Namaste has a great Indian lunch buffet with quality ingredients. The food trays are constantly being replenished and the food is hot and tasty. It seems to be very busy but there is adequate parking.

If you enjoy Indian Food, this is pretty good

By JonN |

Try their lunch buffet. If you enjoy indian food I found this place to be very good and a nice assortment of dishes on their buffet daily. Food appeared hot and fresh and the service was also very good.

Good variety of nice food from self-serve buffet

By drjudo |

I got to my motel late and wanted somewhere I could walk to and which was still open. This place does an all you can eat buffet for $14. It was the only option when I got there. I think they assumed I would just get on with it and no-one came to take a drinks order, so I stayed with the water on the table. There was a good selection of salad and pickles/chutneys plus normal appetisers like pakoras and tandoori wings. I tried the chana masala (not good at all), makhani dhal (very good), chicken vindaloo (tasty but much milder than in the UK) and goat masala (excellent). Some of the naan had dried out a lot, but the fresh batch was very good. There were many more dishes including soups and desserts. Good food and good value. I only gave a minimal tip as it was completely self-service but everyone I spoke to was friendly.

Do not believe other higher reviews

If you are looking for indian food, this is not a good place. Samosa's were no where close to real ones. very bland food. Good ambiance, big place. But food is not authentic.

Bugs

By RStellman |

I really can't tell you about the food. This was going to be my wife's and I very first try at Indian food and we were excited to have dinner here. First off upon arriving we waited and waited to be seated. Finally someone came to seat us. He asked if we wanted some drinks and I said not at this time. So we sat and was not given menu's. I'm still not sure if we were just suppose to eat from the buffet or if there were even a menu option. As we sat for about 5 minutes my wife suddenly ask what was that, pointing at the floor from under the buffet. As I looked closer at it, it was a cockroach crawling from under the buffet. That's all it took for me as I started putting my coat on telling my wife we are leaving. I'm not sure of the value for the food because I was never given a menu to even know what the buffet cost.

Good selection

By quikflik |

Decent food and quite a good selection. Quality seemed good. I liked the ice cream machine with the mango and coconut flavours. No service as such if you eat from the buffet but the staff were all friendly and dirty plates were cleared from the table quickly.

The Best Buffet Restaurant you will find on the West Coast.

By Expedition204012 |

As far as a great value for what you pay for, Namaste is the best. A vast assortment of satisfying dishes, you will not be disappointed . The Tandori chicken is superb, along with the various curry dishes.

Do Not Go Here For Happy Hour

By Victoria C |

Bait & Switch. Menu states "At the Portland Location 1/2 price appetizers" . When we were seated we were told "No happy hour here", showed menu to server, . Ordered appetizers, went to pay bill, were told " No happy hour only Vancouver location". Finally agreed to i/2 price. Service was terrible, waiting and waiting. This place is geared for buffet only, servers not capable and not trained for usual duties. Could not get bill in timely manner. Food on appetizer menu all fried. Appetizers were so fried that they were dry, and flavorless. If they are any indication of food served here, the buffet must be mediocre at best.

Decent Indian food - no ambience

By Maya002 |

The variety of reviews for this place made me curious enough to go and try it for myself. I gather those who love it do not have access to the kinds of fabulous Indian resturants available in the San Francisco Bay Area. The food was ok but not good enough to go back for. Only one wine choice was available. Lighting was way too bright. No service seemed available except for the grumpy cashier who happened by once to tell me they did not have any white wines. Oh and a young girl who apparently was too young to even discuss wines. I'm not sure what her role was.

Not pleased

By Joe W |

After a beautiful day of taking pictures at the Grotto, my family and I were famished and in search for some Authentic Indian food, and what we found was the complete opposite. I have had many Indian buffets but this one was the worst. The food didn't look or taste fresh. Our waitress was quite rude, and people kept hoarding parts of the buffet. Every time more naan was brought out this one man kept getting up and cutting in front of people. This made it even more of a bad experience. We won't be coming back.

Hidden Indian GEM!

By PaulineM |

We arrived late into Portland and hadn't really planned on going out to eat but my husband had a craving so we decided to venture out! We didn't know much about the restaurant other than it was close to our hotel and the cab fare would be cheap. We had heard they had a buffet so we knew we could pig out if the food was good. They didn't disappoint. The food was still fresh when we arrived and the service was very friendly. The prices were fair and the food selection was decent; the restaurant was well liked by all walks of life and ages (it showed because the restaurant was practically full on a week night at 9:30pm). There are a fair number of the usual Indian dishes they most are familiar with, Tandoor Chicken, fried veggies and Kheer for dessert but there are other items I haven't seen before or tried - still all very good! It may not look like much from the exterior of the building (or the weird lodge look and fake flower decor) but we did enjoy our meal very much!

Unexpectedly good for the location

By Melbarsos |

This place has a massive amount of variety, and we liked pretty much everything we ate. Yes it is a buffet but they keep if fresh and they keep it coming. It's near the air port and the price is right the bar is a tiny bit sleazy but it's a big place so you don't need to see it while dining.

$15 dinner buffet

By DayTripper5150 |

Food was rather bland; The naam bread was hard, and the food luke warm. The place was dirty, and in a very unsafe and stable place in Portland. Clearly, the owners either have no money coming in or is not putting anything back into the place to make it worth even buying from a coke machine inside.

Good lace for nice vegetarian food

By Sant0sh2o15 |

I went there for lunch and buffet was good. It has all items with good Indian preparation. Chana Poori was awesome and they had dosa also. Over ll it's good and value for money , But not very good ambinace it's simple and just for eating your lunch. This will save your time and money both with just goal to get good Indian vegetarin food.

Always good.

By rvr2mtn |

This is not a fancy restaurant but the food is reliable and always good. We especially like the tandoori chicken. I have a restricted diet and don’t eat carbs or sugars, eating similar to keto, gluten free, to reduce migraines (gone from a couple a month to one in a year!) and dining here works well for me as well as friends without restrictions or other restrictions (vegan, halal, or just love Indian food) and we can dine together. All I’ve gone here with give it a big thumbs up. The location is right across the street from The Grotto, which works perfectly since I take many friends there. It rates well on location, cost, flavor, and pleasing to all I’ve dined with there. What’s not to love❣️

Tasty buffer

By Suzettelambert |

My sister and I wanted to get Indian cuisine while in Portland and I must Say this was not bad. There was a chicken in a sauce that I could have Eaten all day and the chicken 65 was the best I have ever had. It has a diner atmosphere and just okay inside. The help was very pleasant.

Lots to Choose

By Bruce F |

Namaste offers a buffet line of Indian food that has many delicious options to choose from. The naan and Tandoori chicken are very good. Their side dishes are really tasty. A few of them are spicy. The desserts included in the buffet line are also worth noting. I've been there a few times now and never get tired of it.

bound to love a thing or two

By WASIL K |

Namaste .. :) .. Though it is universally known .. just to reiterate .. Namaste is how you greet in India .. by folding your hands and bowing a bit bringing them to the chest :) Well, no wonder were the name comes from "Namaste Indian Cuisine" Ever since I had moved to the States I did not, even for once, dine at an Indian restaurant so this dinner here was my very first Indian food experience and hence, had to be the dearest :) And yeah, I loved the food, and to be honest, if you have taken the buffet (doubt if anyone would go for an ala carte given the buffet is $13 flat which is such a bargain with the amount of food there is) there are just so many things in there that you are bound to love more than a few .. it doesn't matter if you are a lacto vegan or meat lover .. or whatever. I mean there were a few misses but then the produce is as well not as precise as what we have back in India, thus comparing to the taste back home and not inventing a rather new taste-bud for Indian food here is a miss on our part and not on them. Oh to coming to the food, the buffet was quite elaborate .. right from the salads to the pickles and the chutneys .. Then we went gaga over the fried section, the pakodas aka fritters. The vegetarian people had mix veggie fritters, eggplant, potato, onion .. loved 'em. Then there was a section with chicken and fish pakodas as well, the fish one being extremely nice. The yogurt/curd section had 2 raitas (hindi) both of which were good. - The vegetarian section had daal (lentils), chole (chickpea), a mixed vegetable jalfrezi (mixed veggies made in an Indian way), the palak paneer(spinach and cottage cheese), and the lovely aalu mutter (potato peas curry) which btw was absolutely lovely. - The non-vegetarian (meat) section was livid with the variety of curries in there. The traditional one like butter chicken, goat curry, South Indian styled goat curry, then the fusion with mango chicken, chilli chicken and a few more which I just do not remember. One thing which felt like a miss was the soup .. had a few sips of the chicken and corn soup and yeah !! it was somehow a miss. - The sweets/dessert had a few things, people quite enjoyed the kheer(rice pudding) and I loved the semolina cake (sooji halva) .. there was an ice cream swirl machine as well with a homemade ice ice cream but gave it a miss. The wait staff who attended us was absolutely lovely .. and so very concerned. Loved that part as well :) Also, loved the fact that how the place was filled up with not just Indian subcontinent ethnicity but it was more like a mixed bag and people were enjoying the food alike :) All in all, my first Indian food experience in US, although a good 400 miles from home, was a very decent one. And I would surely come back, gladly, whenever a Portland visit is on the cards next :)

A tasty Indian buffet on a cold wet night

By Deborah S. |

We chose this restaurant as we were staying nearby and are vegetarian. There was a good selection of vegetarian options, and we left full. As other reviewers have noted, the food is not 100% "authentic" nor particularly spicy, but that's par for a buffet.

Indian cuisine

By Deborah Q |

First time we have ever had Indian cuisine and it was excellent! Stayed at the Howard Johnson next door and thought we would give this place a try. They had a buffet style dinner so we got to sample many different items. Service was good (nothing exceptional) and the prices were fare for what you got, but the flavor of the food made up for any deficiencies the place may have had.

Friday night dinner

By Avik C |

Excellent value for your $$...lots of choices of non veggie and veggies...taste is authentic and not too hot....we loved the goat curry and mango spice chicken. Fried shrimp and cod were awesome...too many yummy options and they are alll delish A must

Just didn't hit the spot for me. Sort of bland

By lggilmore |

We had dinner buffet there and for me it was underwhelming. I love Indian food, but this was pretty bland, nothing really stuck out as a memorable taste. I like Indian food for the spices used, this seemed rather bland, the flavors flat. My daughter liked the large selection of vegetarian offerings, but again nothing really memorable taste wise. I have been to several Indian buffets around the west, this one ranks last.

Very good clean inviting bright welcoming Indian food buffet.

By Journeyman644 |

Buffet offerings fresh crisp appetizing as the fresh prepared smells that waft through the entire establishment. Food is very good. Prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend and will return.

I am not going back.

By LostinTransit10 |

Only reason I can figure out why this place stays so busy is some kind of "captive" nearby motel trade. I have indian food all around the world, and on my visit this was the worst tasting. About the only good thing I can say about it is that it is "all you can eat", which is getting pretty rare around these parts due to gross over eaters.

Convenient restaurant

By Dez C |

Good indian buffet but small selection. I did not order from the menu and was not offered one, so I do not know if they have off-buffet items.

Great Buffet

By Jacqueline B |

Great Buffet, nothing fancy, just good food at a good price. The restaurant ambiance is not that great, but go for the food and you will not be disappointed.

No idea what the food was like as it was impossible to order!

By msea66 |

Never had an ordering experience like this. Avoid at all costs. Go to McDonald's as Namaste will ruin your day. They won't accept your order unless you order what they tell you to order. Incredible.

Satisfying Indian Buffet

By james K |

This was a meeting place for a couple of friends and my wife and I. While not the very best Indian food that I have had it was certainly pretty good. The service was also good for a buffet and the price was decent for 4 with drinks at 50 bucks . No one went away hungry and there was a reasonable selection of dishes. Would go there again.

The staff was very RUDE and abused us by RACIST Slurs

By Syed A |

The Ice cream vending machine was not working and the children had to wait for 30 minutes before we decided to go without having the Ice cream, when we approached the billing counter, we requested them that as the kids didn't have the Ice cream, we deserve a discount. The clerk at the desk first asked if we were Indians (may be she overheard us talking among ourselves), we responded with a YES, then she started talking to us in HINDI language (later I realised why she was talking to us in HINDI, so that people around us cannot understand how rude and abusive she is being with us) and said that may be we do the same things in all the restaurants, implying that we would like to eat for FREE without paying, and are always searching for reasons. I was so upset and annoyed that I shouted at her and walked out without even a DIME. RACIST, IMPOLITE, MANNERLESS staff

Eat elsewhere.

By Meredith H |

Over priced for our a la carte order. Glass of wine was generous. Somewhat run down and in need of updating. Families seemed to be enjoying the all you can eat buffet.
