Having been in the US for a couple of weeks and San Fran for 3 nights we were looking for somewhere different to eat and this fit the bill perfectly. It was easy to find only a very short walk from Union Square. We used the Trip Advisor app to book a table although we probably could have walked in and be seated quickly. The menu is traditional Indian with a few in house specials. Food was of good quality as was the friendly service. If you are looking for something a bit different this is worth a try.

I was there on an evening when they allocated a private event. We first needed to make it clear over&over again that we insisted to dine there. The chief/owner of the place was a little impolite, but seated us in the end. We were served Pino noir which was not room temperature but rather warm as a tea, but were kindly given the option to switch. Good was veeery delicious!

We had a superb meal. The restaurant has good food, lot's of choice and authentic meals. Very friendly service!

We stumbled on New Delhi by accident and we’re glad we did…excellent Indian food and VERY reasonable prices by San Francisco standards. I had the Rogan josh, which was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of spice without being overpowering. My wife had the lamb korma, which she loved. The dining room has wonderful ambience and we had a great chat with Chef Ranjan, too. This place has great history in the city and we can’t wait to visit again.

Very very average...we had Chicken Tikka Masalla... which was definatley a Chicken Korma..and a Chicken Tikka Madras....food was just ok...would definatley not recommend.....no flavours at all...

If you like Indian food this is the place to do. It's centrally located. It's a busy place and we were lucky to get a table straight away without a booking. The food was wonderful. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

We have been there yesterday for dinner with friends, we have travelled through world but never have ever in our journey, we have experienced such a bad experience of hospitality. We have asked a simple question to a girl who was manager there about billing, and she literally shouted in response. If this is not enough, she made very insulting gesture towards us. When asked for explanation, she asked so rudely to leave!!!! Food was not great though, Good for the people who do not have specific taste of Indian cuisine, but horrible experience overall.

This restaurant located near Union Square has an excellent choice of authentic Indian food. The food dishes were all outstanding - all of us agreed that our meals were delicious. The ambiance is very nice - warm atmosphere. It was white tablecloth but not stodgy or pretentious. Staff were excellent - very efficient and helpful in choosing delicious. Truly reccomended

We were eager to try and have an early dinner at. 4pm. Hours need to be changed on TripAdvisor. We then went to another Indian restaurant across the street.

Very good resterranat the food was very good we enjoy very much we will come back again and we will recommend

This is a simple place with simple and tasty Indian food. I went on normal business day afternoon and the place was half-full. Among the clients were two tables with people originating from the Indian subcontinent, so I guess this is a positive sign. Yes, the food was tasty (chicken) and the price was right. Do not expect fancy stuff.

We visited New Delhi for the final dinner of our San Francisco vacation. We had a great experience from the wonderful space that greats you after passing the bar to the friendly family service. Best Indian I have had in a while and great value for money. I highly recommend it

Good service, good food, too spicy for me, but they offered you a diverse Menu, if you like the Indian Cuisine.

The restaurant is in a stunning building, with big pillars & really grand design. The service was very friendly however the food was very average, the curries were lacking any real flavour so was quite disappointed, low price at least

Great Indian food! I attended a wedding event at New Delhi, it was really good. The owner was present and so attentive to every detail. Our event was adequately staffed, food quality with our buffet was spot on. I’ve eaten Indian food throughout my life and this was one of the best. I hope to return and order off the menu.

This is hands down probably the best Indian food I've ever had. We had the samosas, tikka masala, chicken vindaloo, rice and the cilantro garlic naan. Everything was fantastic. The chicken vindaloo was very spicy and hit the spot. The service was fast and friendly. Our water glasses were never empty. The owner was very nice and checked in on us frequently. Definitely recommend!

The food was OK, but not very spicy. We had asked for a Madras and a Vindaloo extra spicy and the waitress sneered and told us they were already hot dishes, when they came they were very bland. Slow service, had to ask twice for our first round of drinks. Bill was confusing and we could make sense of the scribbles, we asked for a fresh copy and we got the original back with more scribbles. Toilets are a bomb site, don't go in! Doors don't lock, paper all over the floor!

Lovely food, but a bit expensive though. Great staff and a quiet, relaxing atmosphere, which one can appreciate at the end of a busy tourist day in the City.

This gorgeously decorated restaurant offers a great variety of Indian dishes. The curries and naan bread we ordered tasted good but it took forever before we could eat. We waited around 1,5 hours before our food arrived, which I feel is quite unacceptable especially since we didn't get any bread or papadums before our meal. Aside from the long time it took for the food to be prepared, our experience was good. The waitresses were kind and very polite and the prices were reasonable. Location wise, it was great as well. Quite close to union Square and the main streets of San Francisco, but not as crowded and touristy as other places

I love Indian food. I have eaten Indian food all over the world. I travel to India usually twice a year, in part, because I love Indian food. I am particularly fond of chicken tikka masala, or the veg alternative, paneer tikka masala. A few days ago I ate at the New Delhi restaurant and ordered paneer tikka masala with Kolbi Nan. The Kolbi nan was quite good, but the paneer tikka masala was very disappointing. The gravy was as thin as water and lacked the usual delicate flavorings to which I am accustomed. I was tired and in a hurry and was not inclined to comment about the food, but when the owner (or head waiter – not sure which) came over and asked me about the flavor of the food, I admitted that I was disappointed with the paneer tikka masala and described why. Much to my surprise the host defended the dish and told me that the food was perfectly good and that it must be my personal taste buds that were at fault. He didn’t exactly say so, but his attitude left me feeling that his establishment had food above reproach, and that if I didn’t appreciate his food it was because I have very undiscerning taste. I don’t claim by any means to be a connoisseur, but I felt a bit put-off by his attitude. I travel for a living and have eaten thousands of meals in restaurants. I am often reluctant to make any less than praising comment about the food, because without fail the waiter will offer to take the food back and redo it or replace it with something more to my liking. My experience with the New Delhi was the first time that a waiter or head person blamed my taste buds and made no offer to rectify things. I will not be returning to this restaurant.

Food was good and so was the service. Expensive. I usually avoid places that have celebrities pictures displaced as that is who they cater to but made exception. I have eaten there before. All was good until the bill came and we asked the waiter to call us a taxi. He reused so we went out in the rain to find one. How cheap. in a while you may wish to have customers when the celebs desert you. We will find another Indian place just as good and cheaper and one that will call us a taxi.

We love Indian food so when we saw the New Delhi Restaurant and read that it was the first Indian Restaurant to set up in San Francisco we were ready to eat. I found the food okay, but a little salty for my liking and was a little disappointed with the lack of heat

Didn't have the food. Came to the bar after being out at other places. Was nice to find a place that was open. Only had time for one drink but it was good and the bartender was patient with a couple of my friends who were dragging after last call. Will definitely return.

We arrive as a party of 6 for a late dinner, the restaurant was fairly busy which gave us hope that it would be a decent place. We had to seat ourselves which was the 1st strike, after ordering we waited 40 mins for our food to arrive and that was only after we chased it up, 2nd strike. 3rd was the fact they couldn’t provide a proper itemised bill, so for business expenses not sufficient plus a minimum of 18% service which is ridiculous considering the poor service. After returning to my hotel I realised I read that Little Delhi restaurant was the one with the better reviews but got the names mixed up. Would not recommend this place, plus portions are small with the exception of the tandoori chicken which looked like a GM enhanced chicken, the leg looked more the size of a turkey!

Great food, a bit rushed between courses. The Madras is good and hot! The drinks need a bit more description. My wife's cocktail was pure booze, and the large Indian beer was "Great Monk" @ 8% strength. Staff great, would come back 👍

The New Delhi restaurant is great. My wife and I stopped by and drank some wine and had a meal at the bar, while talking with the wonderful bartender, Heather. She was engaging, informative and a pleasure to chat with. The food was exceptional and the price was perfect. I'd recommend the New Delhi to anyone in the area. While we didn't eat in the formal dining room, it was expansive and beautiful. The bar area was a "working man's" bar with a number of regulars who were easy to talk with and enjoyable to be around.

Restaurant very elegant with such a beauty bar we opted to be seated there instead. Bartender gave great and friendly service and manager stopped by to check on us. Samosas were truly delicious, do try it with the accompanying dipping sauce. Chicken tandoori was well seasoned and not dry, really flavorful. My partner enjoyed the Kerelan pepper chicken very much, simmered in an onion gravy with peppercorns and curry leaves. For out of state visitors reeling from sticker shock in Cali restaurants, the $18 of house Cabernet was a lovely surprise.

After work went to this restaurant to find some vegetarian foods . Met the person at the cash counter ( may be the owner as his visiting card says Ranjan) ) . When asked about the vegetarian options he did not reply any and just asked to sit . While waiting for the waiter for a long time , thought to ask him to find some food as we had dietary restrictions. When asked he became very offended and replied in a very rude and mean way and did not answer the question instead insisted us to wait for the waiter . Left the restaurant immediately . Never ever will go back to this restaurant . Worse ever restaurant and the behavior I have seen in my life by the owner to a customer . Looks like he does not need to run the business - may be he had lot of money and does not care about the customer anymore . My recommendation is if possible go to somewhere else

well prepared food with a delicious range of flavours - we had the vegetarian taster and each dish was excellent!

This Indian restaurant is not cheap but it is wonderful! The atmosphere is great and I've never had a bad meal here. As a vegetarian and lover of Indian food, my favorite thing to get is their "Vegetarian Complete Dinner". It allows you several tasty options and if you can, there is enough to take with you for lunch the next day. I've never made a reservation, however, there is always room even at the dinner rush. A MUST try!

Had the curry lamb and it was delicious, the wait staff exceeded my expectations!! I would recommend giving this place a try .

We wanted Indian food and We were not sure which to choose. Compared reviews and chose this one. What a great choice. The food was so yummy! Better than our favorite Indian restaurant at home, the service was not better than the one at home though.

Absolutely fabulous restaurant. Very authentic. Very attentive waiters and delicious food. We had poppadoms & naan to start followed by 4 different dishes. Food was served piping hot and additional nice was offered. My daughter was given a dessert as it was her birthday. Ibside of building is lovely too. Prices were very reasonable for what we had

The place looks great and very appealing inside. That's all that is good about it! The food served left us very disappointed with hefty bill. Everything overpriced here including drinks (which we decided not to have). The food served was lukewarm. The plates were hot when they arrived on the table but problem was that they arrived almost 10 minutes earlier than the food!! Also BEAWARE that the place adds 20% service charge. For what?? and then they expect you to pay tip!! Avoid... I know what the authentic Indian food taste like and this place does not serve it.

Food quality was very bad and they did not satisfy the customers. Server manager sometimes argue with customer and said we will serve you whatever we have.. this is San Francisco.. No customer service, They do not know how to make food delicious and just running business to make money. Waste of money. do not recommend to anyone.

The food. The staff. The owner. The ambience. Everything was amazing! Go here!! Delicious. Welcoming. Authentic. Delicious!!

A colleague of mine told me they ate here and enjoyed it, so I had to check it out. I was VERY SATISFIED WITH FOOD, SERVICE, AND VALUE. From the outside it doesn't look like much. Once you step inside the first thing you see is a bar, not too impressive - even a bit incongruent for an Indian restaurant. Once, however, led back into the dining room with nice linens and table settings, you start to get an impression of a classy little place. It is much larger than it appears, as the restaurant is narrow but long/deep. We ordered a variety of dishes with garlic naan (yes! delish!) and extra basmati. You have to order top hot to get any heat on your dish, though. They are very conservative with the spices, as US tastes run toward bland (I imagine). For world travelers like us, though, it wasn't hot enough. We ordered 4/5 on the spice scale, as we have learned not to challenge the chef. Were I to eat here again, however, I would order 5/5. In any case, the food portions were generous, the bill was reasonable, and we left with pleasantly full and happy tummies. We will be back.

We were wondering around looking for a place to eat when we found this restaurant by chance. We were drawn to how beautiful the restaurant is. The service was fantastic and every dish was delicious and unique. Absolutely worth a visit!

I must say I was super excited when I walked in and saw the amazing decor and very creative menu. Then the food arrived.... I had ordered a very traditional dish ("kasha mangsho") and what arrived tasted nothing like it, I felt very disappointed. To be clear, I read that it was going to be lamb, not goat (traditional meat), which I was fine with. But the whole idea of "kosha" is a way of cooking that lets the meat cook slowly in its own juices with a medley spices, onion, ginger, etc. in mustard oil. Having cooked the dish many times at home myself, and having tasted it made traditionally in other restaurants in US (Boston, New York) and India, I can tell you that following this cooking technique will NOT give you runny bland stuff they passed in its name. It almost tasted like they had probably recycled pre-made sauce, which had no hint of mustard oil, and tried to pass it as the traditional recipe. To do a double take (I still liked the ambience) I ordered the lemon fish dish. It was slightly better but nonetheless very meh. I was left wondering if the intended customer was not those with an Indian palette, and whether the spices were intentionally dumbed down to accommodate so-called "Western" palettes that cannot tolerate proper Indian spices. In that case, please do not call it traditional food, and also, I know plenty non-Indian folks between my spouse, friends and colleagues who eat Indian spices just fine. Finally, it was forever to get the bill. I had to go up to the cashier and say I need to leave NOW when they finally took notice. To be fair, the service was quite professional and polite, though incredibly slow. I did not experience any rude or otherwise unprofessional behavior that other reviewers complained about. I really wanted to like this place. It's just that I found the food, after all the promises and hype, SO disappointing.

All mega! Great food and spectacular service! Very traditional and familiar! Recommended: Butter chicks!

It is not one if the fine dining restaurants but a good one for brilliant Indian food . The curries and the dal were very good and service excellent and all of that at a great price .

I am a diligent honest regular reviewer and am always very honest. The service and the food was dreadful, anyone who enjoys a good curry will be so disappointed. Apparently this restaurant has been here for 30 years it would not last 30 days in UK.

Nice ambience, friendly staff. Excellent authentic Indian food. A must visit in San Francisco. Happy to have ended our last day here with such a good experience.

Very elegant interior with super tall ceilings and columns. You really could not tell from the outside. What a pleasant surprise to find such an authentic and well established Indian restaurant so close to Union Square and the hotels. Food was very flavorful and fresh. One of the best Nan's I have ever had. Excellent and attentive service made this first visit a very pleasant experience.

If you like Indian food, you'll like this place. It's exquisite. The lamb is tender, the curries, wonderfully flavored, the drinks, superb. We came here a couple times after eating other places a couple hours before, so we only had a dish or two each time. During the week, there were very few people, and on the weekend, a little more. Don't be mislead by the number of people inside. We normally eat at bustling restaurants, and only tried this one because it was located next to our hotel. It is worth the visit. We like Indian food and this place was exceptional. Take your time, have a Taj Mahal beer, a mango lassie, or another drink. As we came for the food, we were not disappointed, in fact, we were pleasantly surprised. The lightness of the naan, the flavors of the curry, the tenderness of the meats, and the pictures of India's Maharajas around the room made me want to know more about India's culture. I think this restaurant is a hidden gem. Come for the food.

Very realistic Indian food . Excellent service . Delightful ambiance of old world India. We had stuffed naan with many traduIndian dishes whose names unfortunately I cannot remember or spell. Highly recommend

A nice place great location & good ambience, good food efficient friendly staff.Owned by Bengali but very good

Walked in with the restaurant about to close. It was a stretch for the staff to serve.. seemed almost a burden to show up 15 mins to close. Appreciate the leadership who was on site! Long way to go to make an impact in SFO!

My daughters and I ate dinner here a few Sundays ago, and wow were we pleased with our meal. New Delhi Indian Restaurant truly brings it with an ambitious menu that combines creative elements with classic ones. I'd taken my daughters on a visit to San Francisco for my eldest to look at colleges, and I made an effort to have every meal out be an excellent one for the memorable experiences. We went to the House of Prime Rib [charming old school eatery], Ryoko's Japanese Restaurant & Bar [great sushi in a hip basement interior], and Cesario's [a very solid little Italian bistro]. I had my eye on trying dinner at New Delhi, but some of the recent Google reviews made me a little nervous and since each opportunity to dine out while we were there was precious, I didn't want to waste any moments. A couple who seemed to be from England complained that the flavors were only okay, not as exciting as what they are used to. A woman from India complained about every bit of her experience. Some guy liked his food but was angry about a fruit fly in the bottom of his mango lassi. I made a reservation and we went. An older couple from India checking in ahead of us wanted a table, but when they admitted to the server that they did not have a reservation he brusquely said it would be maybe a 45 minute bar wait. They angrily left. I'll admit I got a little worried. His lack of graciousness was off-putting. But the interior of the building the restaurant is in is stunning, the smells were good, and the menu looked so promising. Well, the recent spate of low review ratings were definitely from petty people, I am here to tell you. I've lived and studied in England--they have some of the most wonderful Indian restaurants I've ever been to. Wonderfully flavorful curries rich with loads of butter and vivid seasonings. New Delhi in SF has a lighter, California influence to their approach--balances of light and bright acidity to the fats, salts, and spices, but it is very beautifully flavorful food indeed. That couple may have been the types who only want to have again exactly what they have had before in the past, which can be a shame. The dissatisfied Indian woman reviewer appeared to have been part of a party which only ordered the alu chat croustade appetizer to share. Apparently the proprietor warned them that was not enough to order for a group of that size and the group took offense. But then she complained that she was left hungry. So...probably should have taken the warning as friendly advice regarding the portion. Maybe they were suffering from San Francisco sticker shock. It is a very expensive place to dine, and surely a very expensive city to operate a restaurant in. The fly guy...that is yucky, and one of those bad luck things we all hope will not happen. Still, the place looked very clean and well maintained. I don't think it happened because of filthy habits on New Delhi's part. My daughters and I ordered: the alu chat croustade [like a clever, small canapé version of aloo chaat samosas, very delicious], an assortment of other appetizers [the alu chat croustade won hands down over the others which were good but not as memorable], the non-vegetarian thali dinner [each item was delicious], the chicken tikka [mild but still full of taste], and I got the lemon mustard fish curry [so beautiful! Clean, fresh and tender white fish fillet in a gorgeously spicy and lemony sauce which was an excellent balance of acid and heat]. For dessert, my kids got the ras malai and gulab jamun and they were pleased with both. Drinks: the New Delhi Sunset was a great cocktail, a glass of the house chardonnay was solid, the girls each got the non-alcoholic "Nimbu Pani: A popular Indian style sparkling lemonade with lemon, lime, and rose water" and also mango lassis which came utterly free of flies. They loved their drinks. So: to the Me's out there wondering is this is worth the try, try it! The food is delicious. The person who developed the dished for this restaurant has a fantastic palate, and plenty of creativity but also respect for the Indian cuisine cannon. This is probably the best Indian restaurant I have eaten at in the U.S. In Austin, I have to make it at home since the Indian restaurants here aren't at that level of deliciousness. I'd love to have a cookbook from the kitchen of New Delhi. I would make that lemon mustard fish curry frequently for sure. I'd say this would fit in the top ten of Indian restaurants I've eaten at which include ones in England. London just has some spectacular ones, and there are plenty of fantastic Indian restaurants across the UK. And I have never had the great fortune to visit India yet--so that is the limit of how informed my palate is on the matter. Some day!

I ordered takeout from this restaurant while on a business trip. I was able to order via a cell phone and then pick up a few minutes later. The food was reasonably priced and tasty. While I did not eat in the restaurant, it is a unique set up. The front of the building looks like a dive bar but the back is a fairly nice restaurant. A little weird if you aren't expecting it but probably fine to dine in.

i still can't remember the names of the food types but the sure thing is that i still remember the taste it it was simply unforgetable its my first time to try a indian food but it will not be my last thanks to every one in the restaurant and all the waiters and waitresses mn.

We were here with two families for dinner (9 people). We had a variety of dishes to share and everything was delicious. Also the service was very friendly. We would definitely come here again.

We went there thinking we'll get good Indian food but the food quality and taste was far from expectation. It curry wasn't even acceptable in taste. Very bad experience, never ever eaten such bad Indian food.

New Delhi restaurant in San Francisco is a fake Indian restaurant. Their menu is misleading and there is nothing authentic about their suggested meals. Huge disappointment with the arrogant staff too. They do serve rotten and uncooked food. Our evening was a disaster.

This was hands down the best Indian restaurant experience I have had, well, ever, and in a venue fitting of that praise. Food = delicious. Staff = amazing. Ambience = excellent. New Delhi Restaurant, you all are the tops! If you like Indian food, this is your place. Yet another reason to come to San Francisco.

Wonderful Indian food. We ordered their specialties and had a fantastic dinner. All the dishes were really tasty. We ordered the Murg Akbari, chicken, with cashews and raisins; Eggplant Tamarind; and Goam Kofta - vegetable meat ball with coconut cilantro sauce. Highly recommend this restaurant. They also give back to the community which is another reason to go.

Our Waitress was Nikita - very pleasant and helpful. Stunning traditional Indian decor but the place was not expensive. The manager took personal interest in us and was most keen that we had a good time. We live in the middle of England, so eat curries a lot. The Pappadums were unusual but clearly homemade. Food good but it was the welcome and atmosphere which made the evening special. Definitely worth a visit.

The food was the best we had in San Francisco. We were staying around the corner and just happened upon it while walking and I'm so glad we did. Best naan bread ever.

having eaten out a lot in different restaurants, we thought we would try this Indian restaurant. The bar area was very busy when we walked in but plenty of tables to eat at inside. We ordered out food and thought we would try a cocktail each, these were very poor and so weak we sent them back, they did replace them but not much better the second time around. I had a chicken masala and naan bread. Flavours good, not too hot but the portions were skimpy and still felt hungry at the end of it

I had initially crossed off this place after reading some less than enthusiastic reviews. Wow, was I wrong, and so glad I decided to try it anyway! We started with the Alu Tikki, which were as crunchy and spicy as advertised. I went for the Kofta Shah Jahani (first time; I'd always wondered about the dish), and the other folks in the party went with chicken, lamb, and veggie curries. The dishes arrived hot, with the naan basket and rice right behind them. Servers were prompt, answered all the questions we had, and we even got a taste of the owner's delicious home creation--a ghost pepper chili mix that got one or two of us a little hot under the collar so to speak. One of the group said it was the most delicious Indian food he'd ever had. I'm not sure if the folks leaving those reviews really understand the difference between the various regions of India -- this place is obviously focused more on East Indian flavors -- but I'm so glad I decided to take a chance on it anyway. We had a great time, and a delicious meal.

I have eaten many Indian meals around the world, and although this place was fairly busy I don't know why. The food was not particularly tasty the sauces were quite thin, and it was by far the smallest curry I have ever had, there was about 5 or 6 small bits of chicken which were quite chewy. The service was OK. Not a place I would recommend.

What a waste of location and the restaurant set up. The first look of this restaurant is really good when you enter in. It’s also conveniently located at the union square. The presentation is also good. BUT the staff has no interest to serve you, they were not interested in greeting, or doing anything to make us feel welcomed or comfortable. Food was average They charge extra for every small thing you ask them for. Id not recommend this place to anyone. Even though they’re open till 11 they stop entertaining guests after 10pm, we saw so many guests going back because they arrived at 10:10 or 10:15 Owners must pay attention as the managers and staff are really spooling this place with their behaviour. I’d only go here if there’s no other alternative.

Maybe we are spoilt coming from the UK but the food and service we encountered was just very average on the night we dined Staff were attentive but not warming or friendly and we choose a Mixed Tandoori Starter to share and Poppadums which sadly were over cooked & bordering almost burnt and did not seem freshly cooked The Main Course of Chicken Madras , Rice , Alu Tikka was just okay and all the years I have eaten Madras Curry from Delhi to Denmark I’ve never encountered coconut in the dish , sadly the dish was too sweet for me almost bordering a Chicken Peshwari The Garlic Naan was superb but the dips being Tamarind & Mint Chutney were very watery and lacked taste or flavor Overall 5/10 - Just not the best but average

Delicious food! Husband and I shared the yellow lentil fritters, chicken tikka masala, nan bread and a dessert. Also enjoyed an Indian beer and a rose water lime lemonade, yum! Service was attentive, filling our water glasses often. Would definitely return!

Craving for indian food we family of 4 landed in New Delhi restaurant near union square a centrally located restaurant . Ambience was nice hence we thought food will be good but it was not up to the mark . They have variety of cruises from each part of India. Being Bengali ordered mustard fish, in which there no sign of mustard paste , fish was under cooked when asked the waiter she said it was just fried n mustard oil I guess hence they call it mustard fish . Fish was made in onion tomato gravy and not in mustard paste Asked plane rice they gave saffron rice. Ghugni was not as per it's made n eastern part of India . It had large mutton with both piece in aloo matar .. Which is unseen as its small boneless mutton cooked in matar aloo and blends well in mouth with aromatic garam masala the right way . The drink made from olive was too pungent I feel it should Hv been bit sweet tangy Samosa two piece was ok The thali was bad , paneer was not tasty , kheer was just boil rice put in watery running milk Overall it was not a good tasty food as per the price tag attached . We expected far better experience

Another Indian restaurant that has no idea what a vindaloo is, let alone how to make one. No chef here has ever been to Goa, or London, even! The tandoori mixed plate was quite good, and came with some good chutney and strange tamarind sauce. The nan was nice, but average. The rice with vegetables was very good, but couldn’t offset the muck they called “lamb vindaloo”. If that meat was from a lamb, then my grandmother is a debutante. Not fresh, not good, not vindaloo. For fanciers of the King of Curries, avoid this place.

My husband and I visited the restaurant to celebrate my 50th birthday. We had poppadoms first for starter. Both main meals served were delicious! We had lamb korma & chicken tikka masala.Plenty of meat pieces which were not overcooked. The sauces were tasty and looked as if they had not added too much colourings as most Indian restaurants seem to put in their dishes. We also had the house red wine which was a wine from Napa Valley and worth every penny.

After walking into a Italian restaurant diagonal to New Delhi we walked out and decided to try New Delhi instead. I’m not sure which place would have been better? The ambience and service of the restaurant is nice however the food is less than impressive. I personally think I can make better Indian food. The frozen garlic naan you get from Trader Joe’s is better than theirs. The actual Indian dishes we chose lacked flavor. Our alcoholic beverages were served in a basic water cup and lacked flavor. I don’t even think they had alcohol in them. The water they served was warm. Have they not heard of ice? I guarantee you can find a better place to eat in San Francisco.

What a delightful restaurant. The decor is mesmerizing, the service is outstanding, and the food is spectacular. I have eaten at perhaps a hundred Indian restaurants in at least seven countries, and while the New Delhi Restaurant might not be the absolute best, it was certainly the most original. I had the Kofta Shah Jahani, a delicious lamb meal that reminds one of Rogan Josh, but is a little more subtle. I enjoyed this meal immensely. But what added so much to the experience was the history of the dish. The meal was a recreation of a 17th century dish. For those who love Indian food, this is must experience.

Avoid if possible, Rogan Josh Curry was unlike any have ever had before it was very hot and had an unappetising colour/appearance. Chutneys was wattery, alcohol and soft drinks were very expensive (the most expensive bar bill during our stay in San Francisco)

New Delhi restaurant and bar Is a great Indian restaurant with an interesting history. Building used to be a hotel. The food was very good and decor nice.

Really good Indian food ! Loved the tikka masala and the pakoras. The naan was good too. Great service ... Nice restaurant !

"Great food, inexpensive drinks and beers, butter delivery_ "love this place,,,," "Good selection of main dishes, sauces and sides at that buffet.... "Best India food in restorer....

Food is extremely subpar for the price. Ambience and location is nice and that is the reason for 2 stars. Staff was largely clueless about the ingredients. Food was served cold. Tandoori chicken was served half-cooked. All the gravy dishes felt watered down and lacked taste. Naans were served hard/cold and garlic Naans had no garlic to them. We had a large group and ordered a bunch of things (including drinks) but ended up returning a couple (staff was reluctant and we had to push) and even though the portions were small, we did not finish many of them. We did not try desserts. If you are looking for traditional Indian food, please try elsewhere.

Large restaurant with a great decor Service is fast but abrupt and food is not served hot enough. Restaurant felt cold inside. Food was ok but nothing special

This restaurant is not trendy or chic-but is simply tasty authentic Indian cuisine. The curries were good and I loved that they had a large selection of non-meat choices. I had the house special cocktail: The Murky Bengali Martini-it wasn't the best drink I ever had-but true to the description, it did have the biggest olive I've ever seen.

My husband and I have been driving cross country and are now in San Francisco. We walked across the street from our hotel and found this little restaurant. We had the lamb kabob, shrimp curry, garlic naan and Indian iced tea. It was all very good and filling.

A great find for those who enjoy a good curry. Great food, brilliant service all at a very reasonable price. Gluten free deserts as well!

Absolutely delighted to have found this Indian restaurant in downtown San Francisco. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Recommended.

The food is very delicious we had butter chicken and lamb masala and basmati rise also try the nana the service was very fast .the atmosphere was great 👍🏻

Was crazing an Indian whilst in the U.S. This place did not disappoint, curry was nice with well cooked lamb although my girlfriend was less pleased with her chicken. The garlic naan was a bit odd though, tasted more like garlic bread which is not what I am used to. Service was excellent however and I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting an Indian in the USA.

The interior here is one of the big attractions. Was this once a bank lobby? It's quite grand and big, and the atmosphere is quiet, good for conversation. The menu is inventive, service good. Food quality just OK.

We found this place on our last night in SF. We were tired and hungry but didn't know where to go. We went as it was near our hotel (Nikko) and it was lovely. The decor lovely, great menu, friendly staff and the food delicious!

We found the food to be fairly average at New Delhi. We had hoped for dishes on the level of Mumbai, but that may have been expecting too much. Service was OK, wine was not so great. Would we go back? Hard to say; we'd probably look for another Indian restaurant.

The service is very amicable, the host offers a clear description of the plates and recommended the right amounts so we wouldn't overdue it!! Prices are below of what you could expect for the high quality of the food served! Every plate is good and we stayed with the classics lamb vindalu, chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken and rice!! But our surprise was the yellow lentil soup!! Got to try it

Really good food. They had all types of indian food. Great service! Low noise and good atmosphere. Loved it!

Very good north Indian cuisine served in a beautiful room in a convenient location. Good wine list and reasonable prices. No surprises, just straight ahead Indian dishes.

We have visited this restaurant many times in the past when in SF, but this was our first visit since they re-opened after a fire in the lodging above them closed the restaurant. What was a delightful surprise was the ambience is absolutely gorgeous, but the prices are still so reasonable for this area of SF. The food is also just as great as it has always been. We highly recommend this restaurant!

Far away from home town/country, what a lovely dining experience in an exotic ambiance! Very fine variety of dishes with inviting aroma! ☺

I fought with my husband to come here as I love Indian food and we were on honeymoon. He agreed. I was sorry he did. We had a young girl serve the table and good lord she was in desperate need of training and manners to be taught to her. I actually feel sorry for the manager. I was very clear when ordering food. She messed it up. She disappeared and when she returned I complained. It wasn’t good enough! I knew that it wasn’t a cheap restaurant but it was the worst experience I’ve had for age. In the end the manager didn’t charge us because he knew she messed it up. Would NOT recommend

Awesome authentic Indian restaurant with great ambiance. All of the appetizers are incredible. The mains were fantastic as well. It is also the only Indian restaurant in San Francisco with a lovely ambiance (that I know of) on the inside. Can’t recommend this place enough, also have gotten to know the owner Ranjan on our visits here and not only is he very warm and genuine, but also really fun to talk to and takes great pride in his food and in his establishment. Can’t miss spot right downtown for great Indian food in a beautifully decorated warm and pleasant setting.

Food is good, though it's not at par with what a real spicy Indian food should be, i found food at this place much better than other restaurants around it. Staff is good and service too. I went to this place couple of times and found food good.

What a wonderful meal, and the owner could not have been more charming and solicitous (and he's also the chef!). We came here for a meal before our show at SF Playhouse, and despite living in SF for 30 years, I'd never been. We had the chef's tasting menu which came with three delicious and unique appetizers and 3 entrees! I love Indian food but always order the same items, so the tasting menu was a revelation. I'll also point out that this is a place you want to dine-in--the space is airy, elegant, and large (so good for bigger parties). Looking forward to taking friends and coworkers here and also picking up take-out on those nights I'm downtown shopping and too tired to cook.

We walked in on a Thursday night and we're seated quickly. The food was all wonderful, and the Taj Mahal beer refreshing. The wait staff was prompt and attentive. They have high chairs and are accommodating to families with children.

We stayed in the Parc55 Hotel right across the street from this gem of a restaurant in the Union Square are of San Francisco. We went in for dinner and were not disappointed! The entire menu looks good, but we had a sampler. Great choice! We each had a Murky Bengali Martini. It has the consistency of a soup. It was interesting. I didn't really care for the big olive in it, but the drink itself was good. We ate the Chef's Tasting Menu for Two! Great way to eat Indian cuisine if you're not familiar with eating this food!

An impromptu visit to the New Delhi was a pleasant surprise. From the outside you just wouldn’t believe how big the restaurant is or the quality of its food. It has a long bar on entering and then a large restaurant area at the back. The night we eat there ( Monday) was quiet to start with as we arrived about 6.30pm but tables soon started to fill up. The service was friendly and quick. We were immediately given glasses of water which were consistently topped up. We both ordered a version of Tikka Masala which was well flavoured with spices. Accompanied by rice and naan and some Indian beer it ended our day of sightseeing and shopping perfectly. If your in San Francisco and fancy an Indian give the New Delhi a try ...

I visited this restaurant with a friend. Staff was very unwelcoming. No body came to ask for the order or even provide a menu card for 20 mins. Drinks and snacks were OK. But the service was so poor that we felt like leaving even before the order was served. And at the end of it all they refuse to give you a proper bill, and we insisted on having a bill the owner was so rude to the extent of being abusive. All he provided was a bill handwritten with a lead pencil.... Regret visiting it. There are other better Indian restaurants close by who are way better at least in terms of courtesy and service.

Myself and my wife dined here last night, we arrived at 9.15pm and requested a table for 2, they sat us down with menus, 2 minutes later the server appeared to take our order, we asked if we could order a drink while we took a couple of minutes to choose our food, to be told 'no, you need to order everything now as the kitchen shuts in 5 mins'!!! Felt very pressured as she stood there while we looked at the menu, in the end we ordered something that we recognised simply to be quick. So didn't end up trying something different which was our intention. We then had the bill thrust in front of us half way through eating. The bar was still full of people! So no where near closing! Food was average. Wouldn't recommend due to the poor service

We enjoyed our dining experience. The dal soup was wonderful. Service was great. Would definitely dine here again.

Average Indian fare with nice waiters and owners. Not as tasty as it should be, for instance Ajanta in Berkeley is a much better choice, better flavors. Very expensive for lunch, $85 for 3 people. Very nice interior with cloth on tables. There are better Indian restaurants in SFO.

The staff were polite and pleasant but could be a little more attentive. The food was average. The coconut Goa fish curry was tasty but a little overdone and dry. My husband ordered the lamb curry from the chef special menu and enjoyed it. The rice we ordered could have been warmer but the garlic naan bread was very nice. Being British we are particular about our curry so maybe marked a little harshly. Would come again but, if we were residents, would continue to search for other Indian restaurants we like more.

This is one of our favorite Indian restaurants because the food is always very good and the atmosphere is majestic. It may be an old bank lobby, as it is very grand and old fashioned. A nice menu with all of your favorites. A big bar with cocktails. It is peaceful so it is a good place to have a conversation. And close to the BART station. Nice dinner spot for attending the theater or visiting the Union Square area.

My wife and I visited twice while in SF due to our love for Indian food, and need too escape fries etc. The Staff are delightful. Really attentive and friendly. Good range of classic Indian dishes and a layout inside that's far more expensive than app rears from street view. Nice wines. Good value all round.

The location, the ambiance, the service etc. was all very good but the food that we went to eat was extremely disappointing in taste. There was no taste in any of the dishes we ordered. Additionally, the toilet was stinking like anything as if the place was not cleaned for days. Very disappointing experience and not recommended for any North Indian food lover and no value for money!

The samosas were tasty and on point! We both had the chicken tikka masala with a side of rice and two garlic naan. It was phenomenal. The mango lassi is very good too! It’s pricy but very delicious and the place looks pretty nice. Good place for date night!

This resturant has very nice decor. Myself and my husband went in for dinner and we ordered paneer dish. People seemed pleasant. They have a bar up front but we did not buy any drinks. The quantity was extremely less. I have never been to a restaurant where food is half the bowl it is served in. Paneer was 1/2 bowl, rice was barely enough. Very disappointed in the quantity. Also I asked the food to be hot and spicy and it was hot but did not have enough of other spices- very unbalanced. Overall a disappointing experience and would not recommend it.

We were in the city for an event with our son and his family, and took along our other two grandsons. This was the restaurant selected by our daughter-in-law, who had worked in the city in the past. It was a great choice, and even the younger family members left happy. The restaurant offers a wide variety of authentic food, with each dish individually prepared. As usual with younger American children, their first thoughts were where are the chicken nuggets? Amazingly, they have a dish on the menu that is somewhat like chicken strips, Chicken Pakoras. The younger members of the family even expanded their tastes to some other items, including Samosas (which they all loved), and the Keema Kulcha (a bread with spiced lamb in it). The adults were amazed at how well the children adapted to Indian food here. The adults are more adventurous and enjoyed a finely prepared meal of various items, including lamb, chicken, and prawns. Everyone was happy with the quality and taste of the food and did not leave hungry. The wine and beer list is very good as well. We highly recommend the restaurant to all.

The food was great and the service even better!! Totally recommend this place! And the Indian beer was Delish

Maybe because it was very late - I went in at 8:30 PM on a Sunday. Maybe it is like that every day - I dont know. There were enough people in the restuarant and I was hungry...so I went in. Firstly, the ambience of the place is weird...it is poorly lit, the staff dont have any life in them, and it looks like a place that is not maintained well The food was bad. No presentation to speak of - looked very unappealing and lived up to that expectation completely. At least that was consistent!! The yellow Dal tadka was bland. The Nan was more like Pita bread. And then the vegetable pulao - the rice was so lumpy - I dont believe it was Basmati rice that they used. The main vegetable was Potato. It did not even feel freshly made. I managed to eat some of it....as I was very hungry But this clearly competes for the worst Indian restaurant I have visited outside of India!

Excellent food in a nice setting with a lot of space. The food is excellent and very authentic. Also the service is very friendly, discrete and efficient. We send friends two days later and their comments were also enthousiast.

We hosted a party of 23 people at New Delhi for my brothers premiere working on the new Spider Man Movie. From start to finish it was incredible! Ranjan was extremely helpful setting up this reservation/menu over email and phone. The drinks and food were all delicious, everyone left very full and satisfied! The whole group had an amazing time and Ranjan made sure we were very well taken care of. I would highly recommend going here for dinner or if you have an event in the future.

Near our hotel, we enjoyed the meal at this family run place. We ordered the sampler dinner and enjoyed the variety of dishes we were served. Recommended

If you are looking for tasty food in the heart of downtown SF, this is a good restaurant to consider. The service is prompt and the ambiance is excellent. The menu has a wide variety in each of their courses - from cocktails to appetizers to entrees. The restaurant is located a few minutes walk from the Powell Street BART station - making it easy to get to.

After a long day of sightseeing in San Francisco we decided to visit New Delhi Restaurant. We were quite impressed with the ambiance and the promptness of service. The only let down would be the taste of the food.

Everything was beyond expectations, from the food to the service, the entire experience was fantastic. The owner was charming and accommodating. Also easy from gluten free.

Friendly indian resturant close to Union Square. We choose the Vegetrain tasting menu, which was really interesting and tasty.

We were looking for good food and we just visited this restaurant by chance. So glad we did the food was amazing and plenty of it. My husband is allergic to garlic and ranjan made sure my husband had a curry with asafoetida in it as I use this back in the uk. All the staff are lovely but ranjan gave us such a warm welcome wen we came in and he gave us a free cup of masala tea. Could have stayed there all night chatting to him. He is such a lovely man who goes around chatting to all his guests and I couldn’t leave without saying goodbye . He hugged me and I thought that was so nice of him. If ever we go back to San Francisco we would definetly go back to this restaurant

The staff was rude. The food was not cooked there but was surely a pre cooked meal which was heated before serving. Only one waiter who served water was good. Rest all of them had a chip on their shoulder. They have used ‘madhushala’ the legendary poem by Mr. Bachan to promote their place which is just sad as they are clearly in copy right and other intellectual right violations. Please go by the reviews below. This place is the worst Indian food and service in the world.

Being English I love a curry. I'd read a lot of reviews so naturally had some reservations but hunger and convenience prevailed so I braved it. Ordered the Lamb Rogan Josh, perfectly spiced with plenty of taste. Side of Basmati was cooked well, firm enough to be individual grains. Server was attentive, answered all my questions and confidently pushed back when I asked for the dish to be cooked spicy - any more spice would have ruined the dish. Staying in San Fran for business this week, I'll certainly be coming back.

We had an amazing time at the New Delhi Restaurant with a group of friends. We decided to have a vegetarian dinner since one of us does not eat meat and was actually just back from many years in India. The food was tasty, fresh and spicy. The staff were very helpful and the service impeccable. The prices were very reasonable. A good address for authentic Indian food downtown.

Overly priced food that’s ok at best! Lukewarm and very rushed! My husband’s prawn dish was ok but my butter chicken was wicked! By no means worth the hefty price

I had been searching for a truly great authentic Indian restaurant in San Francisco. This is the place. It was recommended by several servers at other restaurants so I figured it had to be good. We were not disappointed. We happened to be lucky enough to meet the owner and he ordered for us based on what kinds of flavors we were looking for. The lamb specialty was fabulous and the pepper corn chicken stole the show. I also devoured the eggplant simmered with a sweet smokey flavor. I highly recommend this restaurant. We at the bar which was a great experience.

i had gotten my mother here for mother’s day. the manager, mirza was so rude to us. at first he didn’t inform us about their policy of 20dollars per person and then he started misbehaving with me and my mother. we would have spent 20 dollars but with his misbehaviour we couldn’t eat. don’t go to this place the food wasn’t good either

- went for business dinner in a large group - service was good, owner stopped by and chatted with us, very friendly - food was average, mixed bag with all the dishes, chicken & paneer were stiff

I have to be honest, I do not for the life of me understand all the criticism this place gets. Its great Indian food with great service in a beautiful setting for reasonable prices. What more could you want?

I was a little hesitant going to an Indian restaurant in Bay Area. And the place did not disappoint. It was terrible. The starters were bad, very little quality, oily and tasteless. Even the main course was just average. The extra spicy dishes had no spice.

I visited for lunch during a busy day at a conference at the Hilton at Union Square. We loved the food so much we returned the next day and brought more coworkers! We shared a bunch of items from the menu and we all left happy. I can't wait to return!

We had a very good Indian meal here. We are Brits living in Texas and finding a good Indian restaurant is not easy. This was probably the best one we have found so far. Interesting dishes - some familiar ones and some new ones. Also some lovely cocktails and a specialty wine. Very good service. The restaurant setting is an old hotel ballroom. A great find.

What a great experience at New Delhi restaurant. Our server Mikail was very friendly and enthusiastic. The service was excellent and the food was exceptional. The restaurant owner Ranjan came out to meet us personally and we got to chat about the history of the restaurant and the city. Overall we had a great experience and would definitely go back.

its not what it looks like from the outside...just go in walk past the bar and into the seating area...popadams and dips lovely main meal of your choice and there is plenty too choose from.. rice portions enough for two waiters constantly on hand too fill up your glass of water and too quickly remove your empty dishes..if your in the area or not give it ago...lovely spicy or not your choice food...

We went by chance and were very pleasantly surprised because even if the outside does not promise the inside is quite the opposite and the dishes are delicious, even the children feasted. We went back another night and had the same experience: excellent dishes and very attentive staff.

It was an EXPERIENCE to remember!! The aroma, the decor, the customer service, and the amazing food!! Favors beyond belief!!!

New Delhi Restaurant was chosen by my colleagues an due to the close location to our hotel. Despite mixed reviews online, we went and were very impressed. They had something for everybody, including the gluten free, vegetarians, and vegans. They offer a complimentary appetizer of lentil flatbread (almost cracker like) with a sweet red sauce and a spicy green sauce. We ordered: Tiki Masala Chicken, Tiki Masala Lamb, Chicken Kabobs, Pumpkin Curry, Tandoori Chicken, various types of naan, and the basmati rice. Very good, and plenty of leftovers kept us who were on a budget happy!

After a long day of sightseeing and being in the cold and rainy weather, family stopped here for a warm meal. We ordered daal, garlic naan, onion kulcha, paneer makhani, spinach kofta, and chicken curry. Chicken was undercooked you could see the red inside the meat. 4 pieces of chicken which is quite ridiculous. Paneer makhani was extremely watered down. Ordered papad but it was not fresh. The food is also very bland which is not typical for Indian food. Service was very slow and disappointing. Prices are not worth it based on the quantity of food you get. Looking at previous review regarding the quantity I agree with them. Who serves bowls half full? Either fill up a bowl or put and a different bowl. The quantity is not typical of Indian restaurant anywhere I have been before. I would not recommend this dining experience to anyone. Save your money and eat somewhere else.

Went here with my husband as we love a curry and always aim to find a curry restaurant when on holiday. We noticed the curry dishes, rice and naans were listed separately on the menu, so assumed that you needed to order these separately. When ordering, I was told the curry dishes come with a rice and naan, but wasn't given a choice of which rice / naan I wanted - even though there was a choice on the menu. I thought this was a bit odd. The food was very good, it was just a shame it was all served so quickly. I appreciate some people may prefer this, but there was no gap between the starters being served and then the mains, so we were done in under 30 minutes. The place wasn't busy, so I'm not sure what the hurry was - or if this is a typical San Francisco thing!

Went to San Francisco for a week and found the food here to be great. The staff was great too. Best Indian restaurant in San Francisco.

Appetizers were not particularly appetizing, e.g., the spice flavor profile of the samosas was unbalanced. Stingy servings of rice. Raita was on the verge of spoiling. Mango lassi was OK. Desserts were lackluster. Vegetarian entrees were average and the portions were minuscule. Service was extremely slow, and one of the servers was borderline rude.

Very close to our hotel and the reviews said that New Delhi is vegan friendly. It is, our waitress was able to let us know which menu items were vegan or could be made vegan... in the end we enjoyed the food and the atmosphere.

A great little restaurant not far from Union Square. The food was great, the service was exceptional. Disha, the girl who was looking after us was absolutely fantastic. Even though we arrived about 30 minutes before closing time, she made us feel welcome, and comfortable, and made sure we were able to have anything we wanted despite the fact the kitchen was to close soon. Recommended!

Had an amazing paneer tikka masala with naan. An excellent spicy creamy sauce. Great ambience. Would recommend

Wonderful friendly service. Historic setting and cozy atmosphere. The food was authentic and delicious. We'll be back

My family and I are in San Francisco on vacation and we were lucky enough to spend a Saturday evening at New Delhi! The owner was incredibly kind, and helpful, as we selected an assortment of appetizers and entrees. He is also the chef and every single dish was packed with flavor! If we lived in the area we would be visiting here regularly. Thank you for a delicious meal!

Butter chicken was excellent and very nice garlic naans however the vindaloo was very vinegary. Also onion bahji were curried onion rings ..mmm Staff were a bit vague but all in all not bad for USA.

Very nice restaurant and the staff is also very helpful. We ordered chicken tandoori and Vegi dhali menu. They were kind enough to change one dish upon my request, which was a better fit in my opinion. My daughter ate a spinach dish and she loved it. As a mediterranean I was starting to miss to eat vegetable. Would definitely visit again.

The restaurant was easy to find. Very friendly staff. Couldn't do enough to make you feel welcome. A really old building with a lot of history. The only criticism was the poppadums. They were bunt and not like we have in Indian restaurants in the U.K. A very good menu.

I have visited this place in 2014 when i found it to be excellent. i did not see the owner this time around. Some juniors were there, may be employees. The first visit we had ordered Egg plant tamarins CURRY which was ok. next day I ordered the same curry as a take away. unfortunately it did not smell fresh. i WAS NOT SURE IF THEY KEPT THE LEFT OVER IN THE FRIDGE AND REHEATED! That is not acceptable when they charge $16/ per serving. The restaurant itself had some uriniferous odour which made me think that the sewerage line might have had some leak which needed fixing. The staff was very polite but i was disappointed overall. They need to get that guy from the tv shows to revamp the place and change the menu. they look honest but tired. they just can not afford to let the business go down the drain literally.

I love good Indian food. I read some reviews on this restaurant before I decided to go; they were all over the place from praising the food as the best ever, to saying its terrible. Well, its neither; its just average. I had a Mango Lassi which was excellent (hard to go wrong with that), Butter Chicken and Garlic Naan. The service was prompt, and I didn''t wait for a table at all. The Butter chicken was just .. less than ordinary. The sauce was thick, but rather tasteless. The chicken had bones, which was a major sin in my book. In all my travels, including to India, never had I had bones in my various curried chicken dishes. The Naan was also just mediocre. The location was very convienent, only 2 blocks from my hotel, which was good. The price for all of the above, with tip was $29 for one person. You may think this is expensive, but remember, this is San Francisco, so really is about what you should expect.

Atmosphere - 9 in the evening and the place is empty! Service- rude, inattentive, insisted on bringing everything together and at the end brought the bill without even asking if we wanted desserts Food - OK, but we had much better Indian food here Cocktails - too sweet and low quality alcohol Wine - very low quality (and we had the super premium....)

The restaurant is in an old building with grand architecture boasting pillars, soaring ceilings, and linen napkins. The service was polite and cheerful. The menu was varied but no so expansive as to make one wonder how they kitchen can make so much equally well. The food was well prepared and came out in small dishes served essentially ‘tapas’ style where everybody could sample everything. We found each item to be unique, well-seasoned without being overpowering, and yet had subtleties that made dining at New Delhi a pleasure. The only complaint (and its small complaint) was that the kitchen seemed to be storing food and utensils in full view of the dining room which greatly undermined the architectural charm of the restaurant.

Even if the restaurant is filled by its visitors at every meal settings, the staff always dynamically find a way to accommodate you with a table. The Buffet for Breakfast, lunch or Dinner will accommodate all type of palates, may you eat vegan, vegetarian or otherwise their is always abundant dishes to savor and fresh. The wine list is moderate, but good wines are presented. The waiters are attentive and present whenever you need them and after 4 days here, I never got frustrated to get their attention whenever I needed immediate assistance. They have a A La Carte continental and Indian food menue if you decide not to get seduced by the buffet. The main restaurant is also opened 24 hours. One of the waiters Mr. Tanuj Mohan is specially on top of things and will be attentive to your needs.

The restaurant was easy to find. The restaurant has a full bar and great food. A broad mixture of Indian standards and some amazing dishes. Try the lamb. Wonderful. The service was excellent. Everyone was so friendly. I would go Back just for the amazing service.

I was veryy disappointed with the food at New Delhi. Both the chicken and vegetable curries were spiced exactly the same and far over spiced. The consistency of the raita was thin and the naan was doughy. I have eaten at numerous Indian restaurants in many countries, Unfortunately, New Delhi was memorable for all the wrong reasons. Avoid at all costs.

I don't think I had such bad Indian food in the last couple of years. To top it all, the owner is stubborn and disrespectful. Save yourself from the misery and go somewhere else

Lovely food and service- the gentleman dealing with us gave great advice as to what dishes we may like to try after chatting with us, and all recommendations were delicious- would definitely return.

On our way to another restaurant, saw this one and people walking in so decided to check it out and so glad we did. Beautiful inside and out server was very friendly and helpful. Reasonable priced drinks, good food & great service. Would definitely go back.

We visited one evening near 10pm but the kitchen was closed so we came back the next day as it had a nice look to it. We ordered a mixed veg starter plate, Bengal lamb dish, Gujarati Gobi Channa a couple of naans and some saffron rice. All was absolutely delicious, very flavoursome and the right amount of spice. It was a good sized portion as well. Enough to make two of us feel very full but not the usual problem we've had in USA where we've had to leave half of it as the portions are too big. Staff were attentive without being intrusive, none of the over-the-top vying for a good tip. Overall very happy.

We went as it was opposite our hotel Parc 55. Once inside the restaurant is very large and a lovely interior, not what you'd expect from the outside which gives the impression its small. We were seated at our table and after a period of time we still hadnt had anyone to take even our drinks order to the point i had to go up and find a server to ask. When we got our drinks we asked for some water, FOUR times we had to ask before we got some, with an explanation from the owner /manager that now in California due to water shortages restaurants cant dish out free water to customers anymore unless the customer asks for it. We did...our times. When it came he gave us a little piece of paper from the back about the water law...great, but how about instead of hiding the info in the back of your restaurant, where we dont see it, you put them on the tables where you want us to see it?....good idea eh? The food came, my starter came 10 mins before hers did..why would that be, I dont know, surely if 2 people dine together you serve their food at the same time. . Halfway thru us eating our starter the waiter came out with plates for our main courses. Rushing us. When the main came it was mediocre food. Then suddenly all the staff were rushing around and hurrying us up. This place closes at 10pm but my god, do they want you out asap!. Wont be returning

We visited this restaurant yesterday and we throughly enjoyed the food and the service. The menu is not extensive but we were more than happy with the curries that we ordered. The chicken biryani and lamb saag were delicious as was the garlic naan. The staff were extremely friendly and spent time chatting to us about the UK and our holiday in California. We would highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a decent curry and excellent service. I only wish that we were here longer so that we could visit again. Thanks to all the lovely staff for making us feel so welcome.

I chose this restaurant because it offered the gluten-free option and in fact all the dishes are gluten free. There were three of us and we were advised, we ordered three different dishes, with different levels of spiciness, all very good and abundant. We also had dessert, only gluten-free pudding was good, the other mediums. Nice place and very kind staff. Slightly high prices.

The service was fantastic and the food was delicious - if your English (like us) and in search of a curry in America it's really good although not quite what you would get at home. Little bit on the expensive side but would recommend overall

I really recommend this restaurant, because of the good service and delicious food. I’ve had the yellow dal and my family the vindaloo. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and it was a great experience.

... the kitchen shuts at 9:30 so they want you out asap! Got there and ordered by 9:15, food came out 5 minutes later and was warm and dry, obviously not cooked to order - avoid this place if you want to find somewhere to eat good quality food late (and I’ve not even mentioned the hair in the food).

New Dehli Restaurant & Bar provided a welcome meal after a long journey across the country. We just arrived in San Francisco & checked into our hotel, the King George. New Dehli is around the corner from the hotel. It is in an unassuming building, but once inside, the restaurant is oppulent. What a surprise! The food was really good & was no more expensive than anywhere else in San Francisco. If you are staying in the Union Square area, give New Dehli a try.

The ambience was lovely, the staff were lovely, the food was excellent, so was the wine & the beer. The price of the drinks & meal was fair . They gave use business cards to promote the restaurant. My husband asked for these, as he loves to make photo albums of our holidays & likes to include places we have eaten
Awesome!
Service was great, lots of veggie options, the restaurant is a lot bigger than we thought it would be. We're only here for 3 days but will def be going back!!!
