We've been here a couple of times and have always enjoyed it. If anything the portions are too large. The chicken tikka is really good and is served like fajitas on a hot plate. We also loved the fried paneer.

This was the wife’s and my first visit. We had all the usuals, service was just fine... but the food was JUST FAIR. We had it prepared “medium hot”, but it just did not have enough Indian flavor zip for us. Just not flavorful enough that you would expect from Indian food. It may be a better lunch stop than dinner. Sorry, you will need to make your own final decision on this place. Enjoy (maybe) West-Morry

I have had the pleasure of eating at taste of India on four or five occasions. I have never been disappointed. The food is always delicious. The spices are just right. The portions are generous and the service in this family run restaurant is warm and engaging.

I'm always cautious about Indian food restaurants I do not know. But this is right down the street so I thought I'd try. I am SO glad I did! I will be back! The lunch special was delicious. And a great price. :)

Really wonderful food. The owner gave me samples of sauces and entree lunch special choices, taught me some things about their food, and was so kind. Welcoming, generous, and the best Indian food I've ever tasted. Just a fantastic place. I will tell everyone about this great restaurant.

Really good stuff. Point blank. What's not to like about good Indian food. The New Taste of India delivers. The menu is extensive and includes enough variety (vegetarian, meat/protein options, etc.) to satisfy any eater. The rice dishes are super tasty. A word of caution for the non-spicey foodies - NTI is not shy about their flavors. The dishes can run on the spicy hot side. As such, order accordingly. We found the medium spice Biryani is to just right. Add in an order of vegetable Samosa and Pakoras and some Tandoori breads and you've got the perfect meal. The fact that they offer takeout and dine-in options - makes NTI a great go-to meal for a busy Tuesday night on the drive home.

To start with, we are not from the US, but this review shows how we were treated! Firstly, we were at a local hotel, and called to order takeout. The girl whom answered the phone couldn't work out what we were ordering, even though it was from their own menu! So we decided as we were going to have to collect it, that we would just go there and order as item numbers. When we arrived, there was almost no one in there, but there appeared to be life, so we went in. We were not greeted by the woman behind the desk, instead she just yelled for someone else. A girl appeared, the one whom answered the phone. She didn't ask us if we were there for a table, or take out, but just called us over to a table. So we just went along with it. We knew what we wanted to order, so we just got on with it. Anyway, we were told that the rice would be topped up free of charge, so that was a bonus for eating in. So we started eating. About 10 minutes in, the girl comes over with a box to use as a doggy bag, (not requested) and then proceeds to tell us that she isn't trying to drop a hint, and we should take our time. We were not best pleased, but continued to eat. Then, a few minutes later, the check turns up whilst we were still eating! Totally unacceptable! Anyway, we questioned her about the lack of an offer for deserts, and instead of offering us anything, she just apologised and then asked if the check was ready for processing. We looked over at this point and saw the entire restaurant staff sat at customers tables, packed up and ready to leave. It was 8:45pm, they claim to close at 9. We knew where we weren't wanted, so processed the check, no tip, and walked out. As soon as we left, off went the lights and out they all went. If they didn't want our custom, they shouldn't have seated us, and also should have given us the option that we originally came for, take out. Food is excellent, but service this bad deserves no custom at all. We have never been thrown out of a restaurant before, but this was as good as a shove out the door, and a kick asking "why did you inconvenience us?" AVOID!

It is great having a good Indian restaurant in the neighborhood. The atmosphere is nothing special but it is comfortable and the food is really good. It is also reasonably priced ad good to be eaten family style.

First, let me say that this review is for the food truck New Taste of India located at 1901 SW 4th AVE. There appears to be a restaurant of the same name in the general vicinity and the reviews seems to be divided between positive (food truck) and negative (restaurant). Our experience at the food truck was great. We got garlic naan, aloo kulcha, samasoas, goa curry and tikki masala. Everything was delicious, well cooked, freshly made and with just the right amount of spice (we requested medium, but there were more options). It's a food truck, so there's not much to say about ambiance, but the staff were friendly, helpful and ensured everything in our order was just right. We can't wait until we can get back.

As a connoisseur of Indian food I was a little leery about trying this restaurant primarily because of the mixed reviews on this establishment. My mother however wanted to experience Indian food for the first time and as New Taste of India was very close to her home we gave it a try. Big mistake! Worst Indian food I have ever experienced and the service was not much better! If they make an Indian food TV dinner I would compare the food quality of a TV dinner to this restaurant.

This places lunch buffet is tiny, bordering on one trick pony. But the few times they offer are absolutely flawlessly executed and fresh. that is why they are getting 4 stars even with the lack of diversity. The quality is fantastic. IT also costs LESS THAN 8 BUCKS!

While they serve a full menu, love the two item buffet with rice. Excellent value. There are six or more items to select from as well as a dessert. Great value.

We ate dinner there last night and glad we did. The ambiance is OK. But went for the food. Not the atmosphere. Four of use all ordered different items; 3 curries and tikka masala. tasted authentic to me! We also ordered 2 different naan, plain & garlic. Tender and very thin. Was able to use it rather than a fork.

As a vegetarian, my choices on the lunch buffet were limited, but with the large portions, I had plenty of food. The naan bread was wonderful. I love spicy food, and we asked if they had extra spices to add; they brought a small dish of VERY spicy pepper sauce. Wow! It was at my upper limit, which is unusual -- but it was good when blended with the other sauces.

The food was delightful. Great mixture of vegetarian and meat based dishes. Be careful on how hot you ask for your food. I like my curries very spicy. I ordered all the dishes with a hot level. I think medium would have been best. Great Naan bread

In Portland for the last day of west coast trip we reached the hotel and a friend joined. Food and ambience are really good. Spent good time and drove to spend some hours before starting back . Early morning flight so before 1 am left the rental at airport. Reached the terminal and spent next couple hours before security check - up and then flight to east coast.

Great lunch special (even on the weekend): choose four entrees (from six, including veg and meat options), and get unlimited naan and rice for $15. While we've had more flavorful (and spicier) Indian cuisine, it hit the spot for a filling lunch--two adults and one toddler easily shared it and were full at the end--and our toddler loved it.

We always enjoy eating at New Taste of India. The food is well prepared and the service is always friendly and accommodating.

Love the lunch buffet and the variety of vegetarian and meat choices. Everything is nice and fresh and is a good value for the money. We particularly like the Dal.

We went there for dinner twice the same week with groups of 8 and 12 people. As this place is fairly new, we had no trouble being seated immediately. We ordered samosa and pakora from the appetizers and shared entrees family-style. Medium spice was OK for our diverse group of eaters, but we were glad that we had ordered a mix of medium and mild dishes. While we sampled quite a few vegetable and meat dishes, the one that stands out in memory is the lamb vindaloo, prepared medium spicy. Everything was very good, service was prompt and friendly, and prices were about $13 per entree. Raita and chutneys were served on the side, and wine, beer, and several lassi drinks were available. It shares a small parking lot with Thai PK.

The daily lunch specials are a great value at $6:00. Good curries and always served with authentic Naan. Yum!

Really great lunch specials for $10. Vegan and veg choices too. Great naan bread. Very friendly and efficient staff. The patio is a little noisy but not their fault, busy street going by. I will definitely return. Anything with coconut milk is a winner!
Always delightful
The food is always tasty, and the service is always friendly. Really enjoy this as a very inexpensive and high-quality lunch spot
